i'm sorry but i don't think we should call this the "autism website" when there's still posts with tons of notes mocking people who:

struggle with social skills / have anxiety around social settings

are unemployed / unable to work certain jobs

have intense or "age-inappropriate" interests

haven't had certain life experiences that are deemed universal/essential

struggle with personal hygiene

don't have any friends or dating experience

don't go outside much or at all

take things literally / don't get sarcasm/jokes

have unusual ways of speaking

generally aren't "normal"

#+ other things i'm probably forgetting rn #i know most of these apply to other disabilities too but i wanted to focus on autism bc of all the 'autism website' stuff #it's genuinely disturbing to see someone go 'lol autism website'#and then in the next breath be like 'omg look at this loser who [literal symptom of autism]'#but i guess when these people talk about autism they don't mean actual autism #but the tiktok style 'just a bit quirky but still able to assimilate into abled hegemony with ease' autism #i'm just tired of the hypocrisy #autism acceptance month is over now it's time for autism wrath month #being disabled on tumblr can be fucking awful sometimes. might take a break for a while bc i just don't have the energy to deal with it #autism #actually autistic #actuallyautistic

i think the turning point in my life both academically and professionally was realizing that. If you Go First, be it a presentation or an interview or whatever. If you go first, you are being judged based on NOTHING but yourself. They aren't comparing you to anyone else, you don't have an act to "follow". You are the Bar. You can literally just do the best you can and at that point it will automatically be the best they've seen so far. And once you're done you're done. You can mentally and emotionally check out.

Game changer insofar as being stressed about presenting because now I just bulldoze over everyone else to go first like a feral hog.

#its true though #all my anxiety about presentations got reduced SIGNIFICANTLY once I started fighting to be first #its Good Advice #this actually especially applies to people with unfinished work like #girl you do not want to watch 9 people with complete presentations go and then give your speech #just jump on that grenade early before they've had time to be impressed by anyone #and the fallout wont be NEARLY as bad #and then its over right away #also if youre a smug petty bitch like me #you can absolutely blow the performance out of the water #and bask in the absolutely traumatized expressions of everyone who has to go after you now #if im gonna be the bar im going to set it at the ceiling #sorry #so i guess the next lesson is you have to fight to be before Me and those Like Me #rip

Being asexual and possibly aromantic but also being a huge shipper and hopeless romantic is such a wild experience ngl. I'm always freaking out about my favorite ships and giggling internally reading ship fics, getting invested in characters finally kissing or reading about their pining and their love and I think "I want what they have!!"

But then sometimes you have a slamming realization that your sweet shipping scenarios you imagine in your head look totally different irl and that you are extremely aspec.

One time I went down a YouTube rabbit hole and stumbled across Vsauce's "Why Do We Kiss?" video and let me tell you. When I saw that stock video footage of two people kissing each other I was a little flabbergasted lmaooo

Going to break into your house with pots and pans and yell at you until you reframe your thinking of productivity to include more than just schoolwork or a salary or chores and the like.

Did you do a thing? Was there a positive result for you or someone else?

Congratulations, you did a Productivity!!!

You aren’t ALWAYS going to be able to have the energy to do what we consider traditionally productive. You won’t always have the motivation.

Yeah, maybe you could have spent two hours studying for that test instead of 15 minutes. Maybe you could have cleaned the kitchen instead of the dishes. And? That’s still something!

Productivity is doing things!! Did you eat food and drink water? You did something that helped your body work! Doodled in class? You made art! Even just posting theories and memes on tumblr dot com is a thing! You thought out the post, figured out how to organize it (even if you don’t realize you did that) and you made it! And now other people can see and you DID something and you should be proud!!!

Be proud of yourself or I am going to show up outside your window tonight and scream positive affirmations louder than a cat who has just discovered her food bowl is empty.

What difference does it make, in the context of ableism, if someone caused their own disabilities? So what if they got cancer from smoking? So what if they got chronic pain from self-harm? So what if they have brain fog from taking drugs illegally? So what if they caused it? So what if they did it on purpose?

Like, I’m not trying to say those people don't have different experiences. What I'm trying to say is that sometimes people, disabled or not, are so focused on this idea that "no one wants to be disabled" and "how can you treat a disabled person like that, it's not like they caused this!," that we forget it doesn't fucking matter whether they did/do or did not. The ableist situations, people and systems we have to fight are still wrong and just as fucked up, no matter how, when or why we found ourselves disabled. Even if you caused your disability/ies, even if it was on purpose, you still should havd support, whatever aids would help, medicine and treatment.

And anyone reading this who caused their disability/ies? I love you. You should have all kinds of support and more. You shouldn't have ableist people shaming you for your disability/ies, no matter how it happened. And you have and deserve a spot in the disabled community, never let anyone force you into forgetting that.
