How to survive being sick
Hey girlies,
according to instagram and friends Germany seems to be struck by a wave of sickness.
Everyone and their momma is at home, coughing, sweating and if they’re really lucky even vomiting.
I am no expection, I’m sitting on my couch with laryngitis, unable to talk and with a fever. Love that for me.
I really thought that my immune system was getting better…well…apparently it’s not. I browsed the web, asked my boss and uncle (both doctors) for their best tips and tricks to a) survive this madness and b) build a stronger immune system.
Eat your vegetables and fruits. Please. I am begging you. Your body needs vitamins and minerals to stay strong and fight off all those nasty viruses and bacterias. If you don’t like eating veggies and fruit grow up then make or buy yourself a smoothie.
Drink enough. Water, lightly sweetened tea, chickenbroth or vegetablebroth – whatever keeps you going but your body needs liquid! Especially if you’re coughing – you need to drink even more so you’re body is able to get rid of all that disgusting mucus.
Inhale. Fill up a pot with hot water, dump a chamomile teabag into it, throw a towel over your head and inhale the steam. Clears your sinuses and is also good for your skin.
Make sure that you stay warm. Especially your feet.
If you’re dieting and sick – please change your calorie intake at least up to your maintenance calories. Your body needs those calories in those times.
I supplement vitamin C, vitamin B12 and vitamin D.
Sleep. I mean it. Try to sleep as much as you can. I am currently sleeping like 8-10hrs.
Selfcare. Try to stay updated if possible. Brush your teeth and your hair, wash your face and wear deodorant.
Change your toothbrush – you don’t want all those sick germs back in your mouth and possibly get sick again.
Fresh air. Go outside for 15 minutes if you can. If you’re not able sit in front of an open window.
I hope this helps!

From our packaging to our clothes and appliances, plastic has seeped into almost every aspect of consumption.
But a global treaty to curb this flood of pollution could change things. Earlier this year, world leadersunanimously votedat a United Nations conference to collaborate on a legally binding agreement on plastic by 2024.
"This is the most significant environmental multilateral deal since the Paris accord. It is an insurance policy for this generation and future ones, so they may live with plastic and not be doomed by it,” Inger Andersen, head of the UN Environment Programme, said after the decision.
Now it's time for a negotiating committee, made up of UN delegates, specialized agencies and NGOs, to nail down the details. This week it is meeting in Uruguay for the first round of talks on how to address the production, design and disposal of plastic.
What is the scale of the problem?
Though there are lots of statistics around plastic production, campaigners say we can't be sure what the hard numbers are. There are no global requirements for the industry to report their output, but the magnitude of the crisis is clear.
The Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, a political foundation in Germany, estimates that 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic were produced between 1950 and 2015. That's more than a ton per person living in the world today. Most of it has gone into single use products and packaging. Less than 10% has been recycled.
The rest is burned, dumped in landfills or littered in nature where animals can choke on it or get tangled up.

What are some easy and effective exercises for weight loss?
Tumblr media
1. Cardio
Cardio is obviously the first exercise for weight loss and is great if you’re not currently doing any kind of cardio already. There are many different types of cardio, including walking, running, swimming, cycling, and others. If you want to lose weight, make sure you keep your heart rate going at about 70 percent of your maximum heart rate. When you do cardio, try to go for 30 minutes at a time three times per week and cut down on high calorie foods throughout the day.
2. Strength Training
Strength training is one of the best ways to burn fat and build muscle mass while working out. While we often think of lifting weights as being only for men, women benefit just as much from lifting weights as they do men. Women should lift heavier than men, and aim for anywhere between 8 and 12 repetitions per set. You don’t have to lift heavy weights either; using bodyweight is fine. You can start off with simple pushups and planks, then move onto squats and lunges. You can even use dumbbells or kettle bells if you prefer. All these exercises should be done two or three times per week.
3. Plyometric Push-Ups
Plyometrics is an awesome way to get leaner fast. These workouts work your entire upper body and lower body simultaneously, meaning you’re able to target specific muscles and get results faster. Start with five sets of 10 reps each. Do these two or three times per month.
4. Full Body Jumping Rope Workout
Jumping rope burns calories and builds stamina. Try jumping rope twice a week with a total minimum of 20 minutes of jumping. Use the technique where you skip rope in front of your feet and jump over both ropes. Make sure to hold yourself steady and perform jumps of 30 seconds or longer.
5. Yoga
Yoga is great for building flexibility, strength, balance, and endurance. If you really want to increase your strength, yoga is the perfect workout. To add variety to your routine, focus on strengthening your core while performing yoga poses. Practicing yoga can help you become stronger, healthier, and more flexible.

The Lilly Insulin tweet: just a small sample of the rage.
And insulin should be free.
Musk also should be shoved in a rocket and fired into space. Along with all pharma executives.

I keep saying variations on this but food does not work like an RPG item pickup. You don’t have a set of “health values” that immediately raise and lower with everything you eat. People talk as if a pizza “damages your body” or a vegetable “lowers your cholesterol” or that every “fattening” thing you eat is literally adding a little more fat to your body per serving.
This is not remotely how a real body works. That’s how a video game character works. The long term trends of what you eat condition your metabolism in different ways over time. If your cholesterol improves because you’re eating more vegetables it’s because you gave your cells more time to use up the cholesterol they actually need to build their membranes, not because the vitamins in vegetables are generating some magic Healthfulness Energy. If you’re gaining weight from eating lots of cake every day it’s because the excess sugar is affecting how your body distributes and retains the surplus resources long-term, not because each bite of cake physically adds like 1 more point of fat cells to your stomach. That’s not biology.

Woman Who Can Smell Parkinson’s Helps Develop Test
Joy Milne, 72, from Perth, Scotland, has a hyper-sensitive sense of smell, allowing her to be able to smell Parkinson’s disease, which progressively damages parts of the brain over many years.
She discovered her unusual ability when her late husband, Les, developed a different odour when he was 33. She described it as a ‘musky aroma’. That was 12 years before he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Les, who was a doctor, was determined to research the link between odour and Parkinson’s, and contacted Dr Tilo Kunath at the University of Edinburgh, who paired up with Professor Perdita Barran to begin the research. They determined that the reasons for a change in the scent of a person suffering the disease is due to a chemical change of the skin oil (sebum).
In the preliminary sessions, Milne was asked to smell T-shirts worn by people who had Parkinson’s and those who did not. She successfully identified all of the Parkinson’s patients, but told researchers that a member of the control group, a non-Parkinson’s patient, did smell like the disease. 8 months later, they were diagnosed with the disease.
Now, a team of researchers at the University of Manchester have developed a simple test involving a cotton bud swiped down the back of the neck that can identify those with Parkinson’s. The molecules on the cotton bud can be examined using mass spectrometry, which helps the diagnosis. This is a huge leap forward, as there is no definitive test for Parkinson’s, and a diagnosis is based on symptoms and medical history. Currently, there are no cures for Parkinson’s, but an early diagnosis can help begin the treatment early, lessening the speed of the deterioration.
Milne says she can sometimes smell that a person has Parkinson’s when walking down the street, but has been told by medical ethicists that she cannot tell them. She is continuing to work with scientists to see if she can smell other diseases, like cancer or TB, and hopes that one day her talent can be considered normal diagnosis.
