#i know this is toxic and bad etc and i usually don’t care about it but this morning i randomly weighted myself for the first time in months #and i gained 2 kg #and it’s not a big deal obviously it’s still a healthy weight but my mum has ingrained fat phobia in my brain #and now inner me is like stop eating sweets 🔪 and start exercising #i won’t do that because i’m too lazy but this is so sick and twisted how the way your parents act around you affects you later in life #i hate ittt #tw weight #pamiętniczek

Ok I don't normally do this but I'm just gonna rant here. Diet culture is literally the most messed up thing ever. Like not only does it create unhealthy, unattainable standards, it also glorifies suffering and pan; physical, mental and emotional. It severely messes with genes, causes eating disorders and can lead to mental health issues. literally stop trying to tell people, especially girls, that they need to be stick thin in order to be socially acceptable. I have friends, classmates who come to school on an empty stomach and then don't eat lunch. I have heard 'fat' being used as an insult, towards other people and myself. I know children, girls barely 11 or 12 years old not eating what they want to because it's got "too many calories". Stop. It's toxic as hell for everyone involved. just stop

(Hey, i'mma probably do a post eventually about episode 4. Btw, awfully shit, worse than I thought it could be... BIG TW OF R-PE AND SA IF YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IT. AND TW of the minimization of those topics too.)

BUT I NEED TO CALL ATTENTION TO THIS! One of the reasons I criticize a lot of Viv specifically is because of how much she puts herself out there. She sees something she posts on Twitter about it a shit ton (even on "threads" lol). AND because of how lacking of improvement she has being. (I personally know people I have considered terrible when we were teens, but I have seen legit improvement from them in recent years. They seem like people who struggle, but got to grow up and made up for any problems (or pain caused to me or others). People have the ability to change and become better. Something that matters at pointing out issues or discussing-is the idea of creating change on others. It is better to get someone to change for the better than to cast them into the forever jail of nothingness (unless, IDK, they Sexually Assaulted someone, for example). Specially when they are young people. Doesn't mean YOU have to stick with other people that hurt you, no. Doesn't mean people get to do what ever and get away with it.

BUT All of this problem I have seen from Viv are from age 19-30. (you can change at anytime btw) And see constantly repeats herself and her actions. Seems to have never accepted criticism (said by herself too), and never able to see her own faults. The fact that is a continuous behavior is a problem, how she always responds is awful. My post of "Viv has being transphobic for 10 years", was to signal that. If she really had changed over those 10 years to a genuine thing- I could've taken that! But no, the shitty double standard against trans men... the weird treatment. THE MANY STORIES OF EMPLOYEES GETTING MISGENDERED HEAVILY, TOO.

(I know people who were transphobic [When they were teens mainly], that Genuinely improved and changed their beliefs. Now they treat trans people with respect and care! And still learning about gender-fluid people, too!)

It just seems to be further and further away from getting better! The fact that she only decides to take in account voices from SA victims that agree with her- it's painful as a victim, my self!

And yes, people who sent gore or dumbass shit to Viv (or the team) don't help. And go get help why you're looking and sending Gore to anyone. (Also, stuff like this does lead to people not listening to others people genuine callouts). The fact that I criticize something doesn't mean I agree with the people that go and do shit like the thing I just mention above.

AND ALSO A IMPORTANT THING HERE!

This drawing was created by DollCreep. BUT ALSO FUCKING REMEMBER this was done in response to the shit that Viv drew of him.

If you didn't know Viv drew a transphobic caricature of DollCreep using the name Jojo (his old nickname). This put together with a shitty anti-sjw meme video. DollCreep is a transman, Viv drew a character based on him. A furry wolf girl, If you can see in the image the main thing listed below the character name is the fucking "Sex=♀️". SO ON PURPOSE, CHRIST. Like... AND YES-is shitty from both to have drawn this (even if it was in respond) mainly immature in DC part. But that, or any toxicity coming from DC, doesn't delete the transphobia here. (imagine drawing a racist caricature of a poc person, because they are shitty to you). THE POST LINKED ABOVE SHOWS THE SITUATION, and in the end of the day. Viv says that DC is an abusive shitty person to her, but never realizing her own faults or anything she could'be possibly done wrong! (and again, any wrong done by DC in general can not be deleted by the fact of having being treated badly. If he did shitty stuff himself, that doesn't delete the wrong done in general to him or to others by viv)

Here about transphobia:

(this is like 8yrs old too)

Again, she never acknowledges anything that she might have done wrong. "She is a thoughtful person, that wants tor write queer and disabled characters! She wants to tell empowering stories of..." It doesn't even feel close to that when people bring up actual problems in her writing that are stereotyping or bad, and she just yells and cries. It all feels like empty sticks she is only interested in in the surface level, she doesn't want to actually deal with.

When she says "This characters is black guys ♡♡♡" and then the fucking 7th, a grayish character with zero black features. She can not actually try and draw a black person with a different hair texture, she'll faith is hair isn't straight and spiky (has done this so much too). She is all for positivity and diversity (can not draw more than 1 character that isn't a fucking stick with the same stupid face).

She can not write relationships in general. She cannot do gay couples, then don't lean on the stupid old uke uwu defenceless x big rough seme protector stuff. Again, all the interactions with Husk and Angel are sexual harassment. They are already a revealed future couple (and episode 4 is terrible for them, specially with that song). Stolitz is toxic, and predatory. That is not acknowledged, and all Stolas's predatory behavior and power dynamics are put in the background, cause- "look how sad Stolas is :(! HIS DAD IS SOOO MEAN, HIS WIFE IS A BITCH". All her gay characters are in pure surface: over-sexual twinks that are assholes, which also fit into the top/bottom as personality boxes.

Any other point includes sexual harassment as a joke. BUT KNOW SHE WANTS TO BE LIKE "GUYS SA STORIES MATTER, LOOK AT WHAT I WROTE" as if she didn't lean back into the problem of the diminishing of SA and r- (in general and done to men) with her jokes in HB. With all the sexual harassment that Angel Dust puts on Husk and others. (AND YES THERE IS NO WARNING IN EPISODE 4, FOR ITS HEAVY TOPICS! I do believe all series/movies with this need it. SPECIALLY IF IT'S SO GRAPHIC! "Sexual content" is not the same as a warning for SA or R-pe. An adult can see a movie with sex or sexual nutidy- when they see that- but it's different to get straight assault on screen. Victims can watch movies/series with sex in them all good, you cannot just group consensual sex in the same assault or R-pe...)

The thing where Mammon (the only fat character that isn’t from the fucking background.) is like FIZZ YOU NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT. AS IF SHE COULD EVEN DRAW ANY DIFFERENT BODY SHAPE WITHOUT DYING. Like there is only Mimzy (hasn't appeared yet, not given any importance. In the female lead show). Mammon the piece of shit (does the same as Blitz, but he is actually fully bad.) His design is done with 80 fucking layers on top. Like all the test of the skinny character's clothes suck up to their body except for Mammon. His body is hidden in layers upon layers of clothing (that's all you got?). All you main guys need to fill "the skinny have nothing men" and "skinny woman with big hips and legs, but no fucking stomach"?

AND YES! VIV DOES DO THE FUCKING, "FAT = FOOD LMAOOO". You know the thing HH fans and hater where like the "Bee needs to fat thing is bad, cause of fat = food (only food) is reductive and shitty"

basically they were mad that the marauders fandom now has more characters in it (the characters they named: pandora dorcas evan barty) and that it was now less about james sirius and remus but more about "ocs" and want to bring it back to the early 2000s

TW!!!!!!!!!!: talks about racisim, colourism, sexual harrassment, homophobia, fat phobia, lesbophobia, general toxicisity, sexism, shitty beauty standards

lets evaluate ur early 2000s:

-two ships only ever written about and they were both toxic: jily and wolfstar lets talk about that for a second: Jily was only ever written in a way that was litterally sexual harrassment! you had james sexually harrassing lily every five minutes but called it romantic. you had this girl subjected to years of humiliation and sexual harrassment - THAT STARTED AT AGE 11 AND WENT ALL THE WAY TO AGE 17! like u were telling us how cute it was to be pressured into romance. THE LOVELYYYYYY EARLY 2000S <333333333 next we have wolfstar which was litterally gays for straight ppl, remus was ur tortured little broken boy who treated sirius like literal shit- this man treated sirius as if he was an annoying ass burden, he could never do anything good, he was always treated as if his presence was killing remus. but its fine they were aestheticly pleasing and the straight girls loved to read about them. sirius and remus were ur trauma porn gays written for straights. lily and james were ur sexual harrassment turned love affair romance for the toxic love girlies.

-all ur characters were white: james occasionally got to be desi but that was fucking rare, all ur characters were skinny white ppl. if james was written as desi itd be one quick "cholatey skin" (seriously why were you out here describing his skin as food???????? none of the 4385853959 billion white ppl got that treatment) dorcas and mary eventually got thrown in but of course OF FUCKING COURSE ya'll still had mary as miss lily collins miss emily from paris and dorcas as light skin when she was dark skinned (your colourisms showing babes - dark skin girls are beautiful, don't forget that) but no yall had her as miss zoe kravits well knowing she was dark skin

-your over glorification of male characters and complete ignorance to the female characters:

Tell me why james sirius remus and snape (never peter) all got these in depth stories, all got to have feelings that got explained, lives that had meaning but lily evans was a pawn in her own love story? was used as a plot device? as personal growth for not one BUT TWO MEN she wasn't a person to ya'll she was james and snapes character development. mary and dorcas got added in and were given the personality of fucking sticks on the ground. you treated these women as if they were plot points to further the lives of men AND NOW UR COMPLAINING WE'VE GIVEN THEM PROPER PERSONALITIES?????? my brothers in christ ur sexism is showing, better cover up.

now last thing i wanna talk about is the added characters and the redemptions for certain characters: literally all i want to say is if u dont fucking like seeing other characters being given roles in it DONT PRESS THE FANFICS WITH THEIR NAMES TAGGED theres this special button in ao3 which allows u to exclude certain things - exclude their names if ur small brain cant see that these were literal children who were being manipulated into their ways and if ur tiny little brain cant handle so many names

I’m finishing up with Shameless now and, man, something I could write a whole essay on is the fat-shaming. It’s not even body issue stuff you’d find in poor ghetto neighborhoods (which would look more systematised, internalized, and self-hating). Instead Shameless' fat phobia is very LA and US show business.

Also, I can’t agree with those that attack Gallavich and their fans on principal. Out of all the ongoing romantic relationships on Shameless Mickey and Ian’s is one of the healthie... hmm... maybe functional is a better word. Although they’re not there yet, I don’t doubt they’ll get there because they want to. Desperately. Do people honestly think they’d fight tooth and nail to love each other in peace and then not put in the work to make it work? They are tenacious enough to figure their shit out and sincerely in love enough to want the best for each other. Even when they regress and fall back on their worst habits, they follow it up with a renewed determination to be better (and succeed for the most part). That makes them leagues ahead of a majority of the other characters in the show. Furthermore, I think Ian might just be the only person who could convince Mickey to seek out a therapist, which he does need (can you imagine being a fly on the wall of those sessions? They’d be hilarious and heartbreaking).

On that point, I disagree with the pervasive instinct to self-righteously pontificate on characters in a show about systematic poverty and abuse like they’re watching rabid animals caged in a zoo. Writing the protagonists off as ‘abusive’ and ‘toxic’ wholesale without reflection for why they’ve become who they are and how? On how far they’ve come or how they’re trying? This inability to contextualize characters and their stories says more about the overall willingness to dehumanise those characters, and the failure to understand systematic oppression generally, then it does about those character. Poor, marginalized, and abusive environments breaks and frustrates the development of characters that exist in a world like Shameless, but also, characters of middle and upper class environments can exhibit behaviors that are as ‘toxic’ and ‘abusive’ only it manifests in ways that are seen as socially acceptable. People are not static, nor do we always have the tools to best understand and deal with a situation. That does not make people ‘toxic’ and ‘abusive’. Lives are allowed to touch others. We are allowed to stumble, to be wrong and make mistakes. We are allowed to need help to become our better selves and people are allowed to consent to helping us through that journey.

That’s not even getting into the ins and outs of what Ian Gallagher and Mickey Milkovich meant to abused, mentally unwell, and closeted queer viewers. Their individual character arcs and their love story is hope that you too can overcome your environment. That you can love and be loved regardless of how the world sees you. That you’re just as worthy of this development and of this great love story. That you are deserving of having your humanity recognized and your pain contextualized. That you can someday be free and love freely. Mickey and Ian are open to growing, their love is resilient, and they’re going to be okay. That matters more than some impulse to moralize at, or rant about, “Gallavich fans” don’t you think?

so i'm wondering if any other feedees/gainers/whatever label you ascribe to yourself have had this same thought-process. have any of y'all wanted to make irl friends w/ people in the community so that you could go out to eat w/o fear of judgement by the peers you're eating with? to be able to revel fully in the joy of eating and the shared experience of group dining sans scrutiny?

heavier topics & expounding on the above under the cut. tw: ed discussion, mental health, fat phobia

i think for me this train-of-thought originates largely from a fat-phobic standpoint; when i was south of chubby (read: anywhere from when i was a beanpole post high school to being actually properly active & in shape in my early-mid 20s) i'd have issues eating out with others, whereas eating alone would give me no such issue. now that i type it out, probably a combination of restrictive e.d. tied with self-image/esteem issues, married with fat-phobic conditioning.

these days i don't give a shit. i've done, and am still working on, my own shadow-work on my psyche (and working through a variety of anti-depressants + dosages helps too). now we get to the crux of the post.

sure yeah from a horny reptile brain perspective it'd be cool to be encouraged to gorge oneself to bursting by a group of friendly kinksters, but i'm more talking about from the not-horned up side of things. just to be able to let loose amongst peers who also revel in the pure enjoyment of food (or the vicarious satisfaction from FAs watching/indulging the more exuberant of peeps), without the toxic societal norm of being a fat-phobic shithead rearing its ugly head.

i guess this would fall under the purview of soft-feedism, but also under dismantling of toxic social norms? yearning for irl friends who're into feedism and also not shitheads? idk.

anyway this has been a rambly stream of consciousness, but i wanted to posit the question(s) in the intro paragraph because i'd like to hear some perspectives from other feedists/feedism-adjacent peeps. i would not be surprised in the slightest if this has been discussed to death already, buuuuut this is my dosh gang blarg and i'm allowed to post my own privately-public (or publicly-private?) journals.

thoughts about TDI (I’m on episode 13)

Katie and Sadie from Total Drama Island were my first femslash ship and I ship them so much! My OTP since I was 10 and first watched the show on Cartoon Network. They are SO cute

Gwen and Trent are the two most normal people on the island and I think they have great chemistry tbh

I didn’t think I’d like Duncan, or him and Courtney together, until… cliches happened and I enjoyed them

My rare pair is Leshawna and Beth because I like when they stood up to Heather together

Heather is like Sae from Peach Girl, 100% bitch but Iconic and without her, there wouldn’t be drama

I don’t like how Geoff and DJ (and Duncan) are mean to Harold. Duncan is mean so it’s expected, but Geoff and DJ are supposed to be nice but they pick on Harold for like no reason

I’ve vaguely remembered seeing memes that likened Harold to one of those “toxic nice guys” I think. I personally dont see that in Harold tbh but he’s very awkward and kind of… weird yes. But those aren’t inherently toxic “””nice guy””” traits ffs lol (I feel like Cody is the real “I’m a nice guy” 😂)

I have a vomit phobia so the show is sometimes squicky to watch and I remember the gross food episode freaking me out as a kid. It’s coming up soon for me so wish me luck 😔

As for creative endeavors, I might sort of combine TDI with DanganRonpa in my head. I feel like TDI is just Canadian DR for younger kids/teens

I don’t like how all the skinny girls are drawn though. Their waists look like they’d snap. Well I still think the body diversity is better than an average cartoon though. But Owen is a fat phobic character sadly. Like… we get it, he eats a lot, he farts, is obnoxious. Oh yeah! And he’s fat. I honestly feel Owen would be funnier if he were skinny. It would be in less bad taste at least.

One more reason why I like Leshawna, her proportions look realistic and she isn’t a fat phobic caricature despite being on the larger side. I thought she was lowkey a “black caricature” at the beginning (I’m black and I don’t like when we’re portrayed as loud and angry) but I grew to like her. She’s basically just sassy and confident and I can respect that

The amount of "body positive" and "tolerant" people in the SSO community enraged that others want also to be represented says a lot about them.

As a person who struggle a lot with my weight, lived almost all my childhood overweighted and body shamed, also shamed by some body positivity people ( ok almost all the ones I met) when I try to loose weight, I can tell that you guys are as toxic as the ones who fat shamed people.

Is it too much to ask to have a large representation? I don't think so.

Is it wrong to say that you don't find a body pleasant and you don't want YOUR character looking like that? No. As long as you don't use insulting terms, it's not.

Is it wrong to expect to find something to represent you in an update about including more body types? No, it's supposed to be the goal.

Is it wrong to accuse everyone of fat phobia just because they say that getting rid of their own body type and only offering bigger ones was wrong? Yes. Inclusivity comes for all sizes and SSE messed up once again. They had enough time to create all the body types and even an option like a slider to add more or have less curves. They had feedback, they didn't listen and went with the easy option. This update was just another poor way of using trends.

No one said that the game shouldn't offer large bodies or flat ones, just that they should provide options for everyone. That would be real inclusivity and not just a superficial way to calm down a part of their fanbase.

Edit: Also I'll add that being irl the largest body they offer, and struggling to be in a better shape and health, yes, having a thin character with curves was a relief for me, a relief that I just lost. My own body is one of the reasons of my depression and shitty teenage years, and being stuck in that one or in a thin one without curves but not totally looking like a male one doesn't help. You think the characters look nice and are happy with it? Good for you. But we have the right to say that for us it's not the case, especially when it reminds me the worst years of my life.

I had to go about my life as an unconventionally attractive brown girl getting bullied by them and now those same girls are crying because they think they’re being silenced.

I also had to go through bullying like that. So much so that it made me quit dancing because of all the racism and fat phobia I went through from not only the white girls but the white teachers as well. I was a great dancer but I didn’t fit into the skinny, white, hyperfeminine girl that theatre communities praise and look for. So yeah…it is really tone deaf lol

Why do you think the Euphoria fandom's most popular characters/ship is Lexi Howard & Fezco (Fexi)? They're not one of the main ships featured on the show, like Rue and Jules. And while many fans clearly identify with Lexi, who is intelligent, dedicated, caring and passionate, I wonder why (especially amongst fellow fanfic writers) Kat Hernandez, who writes fanfiction and has a secret double life on the internet, isn't more popular in the Euphoria fandom, or featured more prominently in fanfic.

Hmmm, so I think there are a few separate questions in this ask and many other people have articulated opinions that I share re: the lead inquiry. (Fez and Lexi were the rare earnest and genuinely romantic pairing in a season fraught with addiction, enabling addiction, being traumatized by an addict you love, toxic masculinity, cheating, fucking your best friend's ex, abuse, human trafficking, murder, etc. And Fez and Lexi are both attractive people. And they have great chemistry onscreen. And it was unexpected on a surface level yet worked so beautifully upon execution.)

[More below cuz I'm blabbering on.]

I have to disagree that Kat isn't popular in the overall Euphoria fandom. It's my understanding that lots of people were super bummed about her truncated arc in S2 and would have loved to see her with a meaningful and more integrated storyline in S3. She's featured on Dax's podcast this week, and her Euphoria commentary has been covered by multiple entertainment news outlets. Sure, it's partly "people love mess and want to know drama" but it's also "we loved this character and want to know why things didn't work out." I think Kat is popular and that's why the whole thing garners such attention, even now.

Musing on Kat inclusion in fics is a different thing. (And I do think overall Euphoria fandom is different from fic fandom and is different from tumblr fandom.) It's not particularly motivating for writers to watch a character they once enjoyed get a dead-end story. Not much to work with in S2. I would have loved to see more depth into her realization that "what you think you want isn't what you actually want" or whatever the Maddy quote was. That's such a relatable idea and would have been SO compelling to explore for Kat. But, didn't happen and we got minimal sidekick action. (A fix-it fic for Kat as an independent character would be lovely and I would gladly read it!)

Quite frankly, if Lexi hadn't gotten a strong narrative arc (including a romance) in S2 I don't think she'd appear frequently in fics. So to me, it's the compelling connection between Fez and Lexi that drives popularity. They both grew a lot and showed different sides to their characters, brought to the forefront by their interaction with one another.

Re: Kat in Fexi fics, I'm not surprised she isn’t prominently featured because she's not super connected to Fez or Lexi in-canon. Ash, Cassie, and Rue all make sense as more central figures in their stories. Even with AUs, there are some interesting relationship dynamics between Fez & Ash, Ash & Lexi, Cassie & Lexi, Rue & Fez, etc. that can drive plot, tension, character development, yada yada yada.

Possibly things like fat phobia and racism factor in, too. But I don’t think those are the only reasons we don’t get a lot of Kat.
