Does it make sense to make fanart for a book that does not yet exist? Yes. I think yes.
I may have spent all night drawing it in a haze, but when I found out @jazzfordshire small town au is turning into a book, the whole thing was beyond my control.
I'm just so excited and proud of Jazz! I can't wait to read all about Dani and Eleanor and to have this book proudly sit on my shelf!

Ava’s gaze is caught on the horizon, like it’s reeling her in with fishing line. “The sunrises here must be incredible.”
“They are quite spectacular.”
Ava spins around to look down at her, and Beatrice is half expecting her to say I want to see it, to which she’d respond I’ll take you, I’ll show you. Tomorrow, before you leave, or maybe you could stay longer. Just stay, for a little while. There’s so much I could show you.
and there it is, a mark of the divine ch 2 by understreetlights

Small town au stuff
Philza is kindhearted yet oddly knowledgeable and mysterious resident who seems wiser beyond his years and may or may not be a witch. Especially questionable is that giant ass hat of his. Maybe a witch. He is retired and has a suspiciously large income, and somehow knows how to fly a plane?!! Maybe a retired vet or spy? Its undetermined. Or maybe just your basic crop duster. He does talk about potatoes a lot for some reason.
Foolish, your local cop and sheriff. The heart throb of the police department and kind of the definition of abuse of power (but only when its funny). He'll probably let you off for speeding or doing donuts in corn fields. His previous job was the town's major architect, which he still builds sometimes, but wanted to harass random people as a police officer for a new temporary occupation.
Quackity, the emotional weirdo teacher who's got attachment issues out the wazoo. He is sweet, but spirals sometimes. Its been rumored that he's been beaten up by Phil's kid for reasons unexplained.
Wilbur, of course, the aspiring musician. Gets confused a lot for other famous people, but plays at events when he's home. Loves his kid, but has been gone for most of the year and feels insecure for not calling her as much.
Jaiden, the town's lawyer who is rolling in it. She wins a lot of her cases and maybe does some of the illegal legwork to prove her client's innocence or the accused guilty. She does a lot of investigating with Foolish and has a key to the polices archive room. She has gotten noise complaints about her two loud birds.
Forever, a new resident along with the other Brazilians who all live in his giant pink Barbie house until Cellbit moves out to get married. Forever quickly gains popularity among the town's residence and becomes mayor of Quesadilla Town. He has been chasing after Philza this whole time, but there are whispers that he has a thing for the local pastor.
Badboyhalo, the priest, which Forever has remarked that's probably the strangest one out of the town's peoples names but it fits. Bad is a strangely wealthy and knowledge priest. His face is always masked by shadows and a hood. He always appears out of nowhere and seems to derive amusement from spooking the other residents. Forever thinks that's cute.
Roier, from Jaiden's platonic roommate to Cellbit's husband, man has never had a job and is just a trophy roommate/husband. Always physically fit, the life of the party and if the town had a best looking competition, he'd be at least top 5. Spends his day working out and is often seen on long runs in the woods. He may or may not be the one always finding weird things on his runs. Like a random artifact or an unfamiliar body.
Cellbit, town's journalist. Always looking for clues on the strange going ons and always has one of those huge boards with photos, tacks, and red thread. Man hardly sleeps and is running on six cups of coffee a day. Get him some water.
Fit, he owns of course Fit's Fitness. The sexiest personal trainer in the county and has a prosperous business. Him and Phil are somehow friends, and he weirdly seems to know things he shouldn't. Has been seen fraternizing with the weird agents that come through town and cover stuff up.
Baghera is another school teacher in Quesadilla town. She is the funnier one but also there seems to be an immense sadness to her. She avoids any special agent from the Cucurucho Factory.
Etoiles is a mysterious vigilant who fights suspicious figures and deadly monsters in the night. He's kind of the ex machina of the town and can be found lurking in the back alleys. He may or may not be a clerk at your local giftshop.
Cucurucho is an interesting and strange character, a business man in a white suit wearing a bear mask at all times. He runs the Cucurucho Institution along with its factory and seems to hold some bizarre legal authority over the town. He also has connections in the hospital and school and all around is just a sketchy person. He has many of his underlings do his bidding around town and they have been seen dumping chemicals in the river and interrogating certain residents.
Pac is your new local gym teacher and has stolen the town's physical trainer's heart. They've been having a cute shy will they won't they. It's extremely obvious to the whole town. He is best friends with the mad scientist science teacher Mike. And they get up to shenanigans. And for a gym teacher, the guy sure is smart and knows a lot of ways to build things. He's like the ultimate package!
Missa is Phil's platonic husband who is always away on business trips. He shows up into town for about a week then has to head out again to do business related business. He is jealous of Phil's love interests but also won't deny how hot they are and that also makes him insecure.
Charlie is the troubled baker/conessieur in town. He always has a creepy smile about him when you ask what's in his food, but he's just screwing with you and its actually delicious. He has been seen dragging huge lumpy bags with red liquid pouring out of it and swears it's just strawberry jam. Turns out if you licked the floor, it is. His favorite dessert to make is green jello.
Tubbo is the weird little mechanic that is always putting bizarre attachments to your vehicle and making odd do dads in his spare time. No one knows where he got his mechanic license, but no one mentions that he's probably doing this illegally cause of his sweet deals.
Mouse is a famous vtuber who may be working with the occult on the side for the funsies. Is she running a cult? Perhaps. But it would be funny if she did. Anyways she has a lovely home and gives lots of her money as donations to less sketchy hospitals.

more small town au 80s!james. yes. mhm.
this time i'm thinking about sneaking him into your room in the middle of the night when everyone else in the house is sleeping, and you and him end up making out in your bed and having to have sex very quietly. you both know he'd be shot and you'd be locked in the house for the rest of your life (even though you're a legal adult but your father says that doesn't matter so long as you're living under his roof) if you were caught, so you're both holding your breaths and trying not to moan at the sight and feeling of each other. and you also definitely have to hold one of your pillows over your face when he eats you out because it's just so good hhhhhhhhhh
my brain is mush rn thinking abt this my god
i love the, "your dad hates james" trope because i feel like it would be so true. traditional fathers ain't gonna like metalhead james now, are they...
both your parents were in bed, you on the phone to james, trying to talk quietly and not laugh too hard at his stupid jokes. until it all goes quiet and you both get that feeling of longing, deep in your gut. and james would obviously speak on it first, muttering:
"i miss you."
"we spent the whole day together," you'd try and joke but you understood him. you missed him too.
"i know but i can't stop thinking about you, baby."
you'd feel your face heat up and a wide smile pull at your cheeks. and you'd pull the covers up to your face to stifle your giggles. and silence again until you got an idea...a rather stupid idea.
"why don't you come over? i'll sneak you in, mom and dad are asleep."
there's silence on the other end and you wonder what he's thinking. but he speaks shortly after and the ache in your cheeks is worsened by another smile.
"when did you get so rebellious huh? seems i'm rubbing off on you, what would your father say?"
"i'm sure he'd throw a fit."
"bet he'd be even more mad if he woke up and found me fucking his daughter."
"stop talking before i change my mind."
"okay, okay. i'll be over in five. back door?"
"back door."
"see you soon, baby."
you'd hear the familiar buzzing of the phone and the brewing anticipation at the loss of james's voice on the other end. you'd pull the covers off you, taking a deep breath before being as silent as possible and padding along the hallway in your pyjamas, making sure not to step on any steps that would creak as you descended the stairs.
you'd wait impatiently at the back door, glancing upstairs anxiously. and you'd be so caught up in getting caught that you don't notice james's figure in the darkness, standing outside the door, waiting for you. you'd jump when he tapped once on the glass, cursing him as you let him through the door.
"you asshole." you'd chastise.
"your asshole." his lips would be on yours as soon as he walked through the door, catching you off guard as he wrapped his arms around your waist, kissing you like he'd just come home from war.
"james," you'd whisper in between kisses. "james." there's a push to his chest as you try and get his attention.
"mhm."
"not here." he'd pull away, blue eyes shining in the moonlight, lips wet from sloppy kisses.
you'd drag him by the hand, guiding him up the stairs and showing him where to step. he's more graceful than you thought and as you close the door, you let out a breath and lean against the wall, smiling at him and shaking your head.
"why do we do these things?"
he'd sit down on your bed, legs spread apart and a look of calm on his face that made you incredibly jealous.
"cause we're stupid." he'd pat his thigh. "now come here and let's make all this worthwhile."
you'd tiptoe over to him, perching yourself on his thigh and wrapping your arms around his neck, lips meeting his. sloppy, open-mouthed kisses were shared, his lips trailing down your jaw and your neck and collarbone, moving softly back up to your lips again.
"we gotta be quiet." you'd mutter as he pushed you down onto the bed, crawling on top of you, and pulling his shirt off in the process. he'd lean down to kiss your neck again, sucking hard, most definitely leaving a mark. goddamn asshole.
"i think that applies to you more than me, sweetheart." his hands would be roaming under your shirt, trailing along the peaks of your nipples and making you shiver.
"i can be quiet." your chest would be heaving and your breathing would be uneven. he'd laugh at you and shake his head.
"obviously."
you didn't even have time to reply because he was peeling your shirt off you, wasting no time as he wrapped his mouth around your nipple and sucked softly.
a soft whimper would leave your lips and he'd pull away.
"quiet, baby." he'd hook his thumbs into the waistband of your pants, shimmying them down your legs, silently rejoicing as he saw you were wearing no panties. "don't want daddy hearing you."
"shut up." there was a need for him, a carnal desire deep inside you that was begging for him. you'd been deprived of him for too long. it was always hard to find times when you could have sex. you couldn't at your house because your dad would never allow it, he never seemed to want to at his house and parking his borrowed truck in an empty parking lot was never as intimate as you wanted. the only time you could ever let go was when you were down by your little creek, under the privacy of the moon or the sun. and you needed him. "please, fuck me. i missed you so much, i need you." you'd be rambling and writhing and he couldn't even pretend he wasn't just as needy.
"i know." he'd struggle with his belt buckle, impatiently pulling it out of the loops on his jeans. and you'd watch with lustful eyes as he pulled his pants down, his underwear with it. he was half-hard already and as he leaned down to kiss you again, you knew it wouldn't take long before he was ready entirely.
he'd tease you for a few moments longer, toying with your clit and dragging his fingers up and down your slit. you'd scratch at his back in desperation.
"c'mon jamie, please." he was sucking your nipples, the tip of his finger slipping inside you.
you could feel his cock against your leg, hard and heavy and ready for you. and he'd look up at you with hooded eyes, kissing up to your lips before whispering:
"stay quiet."
you'd run your fingers through his hair and nod, a small "i will" passing your lips before he kissed you again and pumped himself twice, lining up with your entrance.
he'd slide in slowly and quietly, a hand slapping over your mouth as he inched further and further in. his jaw would be clenched and he'd drop his head to the crook of your neck, trying to stifle his own noises.
and the first thrust, you'd whimper, too loud for his liking.
"c'mon, baby. you can stay quiet for me yeah?" he'd push your hair out of your face and move slowly inside you, dragging the head of his cock against your sweet spot. "breathe through it."
you'd do as he asked, eyes fluttering shut and trying to regulate your breathing.
"there you go...fuck." both hands would be in your hair, his head resting in the crook of your neck and hips meeting yours with every slow thrust.
"god, you feel so good." you'd moan softly, burying your face in the pillows and gripping onto his shoulders. your legs would be wrapped around his waist, pulling him deeper inside you. your head would be spinning, your body on fire as you tried desperately not to make a sound.
"doing so well." you weren't sure how he was remaining so composed and how apart from the occasional grunt, his noises were kept to a minimum. and when his hand reached down between the two of you to circle your clit, you knew you were done for.
you'd slap a hand over your mouth, bucking your hips involuntarily and chasing after your orgasm.
your breathing would be laboured and there was a layer of sweat coating your body as you felt the surmounting pleasure build inside you.
"james." it would be the softest of whimpers, murmured breathlessly as you felt it building and building until it snapped. and james would be shushing you, the movement of his hips erratic as your heart raced.
"there you go." he'd mutter incoherent praises, small panting breaths coming from his lips before he quickly pulled out of you and finished himself off in his hand, his spend coating your stomach.
there'd be a moment of calm, smiles on both your faces as james rested on top of you. and then, both your hearts stopped.
the door of your parent's bedroom opened and there was the unmistakable sound of footsteps. you were both still, too scared to move. but the light of the bathroom was turned on and the door locked behind them and you breathed a sigh of relief, trying to slow your beating heart.
james had to stifle his laugh as he lay down beside you, letting you curl into his side and bury your face in his chest.
neither of you spoke until the bedroom door was closed again and your dad's snores were unmistakable.
"well that was fun." you'd smile into his chest, shaking your head.
"that was the scariest thing ever."
"don't worry, your dad loves me he would've been fine with it."
you'd smack his chest lightly and kiss him once again.
"he doesn't like when you're fully dressed and we're sitting five feet apart, i'm almost certain he'd despise you if he found you on top of his only daughter with your cum on her stomach."
he'd laugh at you and you'd share more kisses until he announced that he had to go.
"can't you stay? i'll wake you up early and sneak you out before dad wakes up."
"i've got work early."
you'd pout at him and sigh.
"I forgot about that." he'd be crawling off the bed, picking up his clothes and pulling them on. "i'll come see you at some time during your shift."
he'd be pulling on his shirt, hair messy and unfortunately, fully dressed.
"i've got beer."
"i've got cigs."
he'd smile and lean down, placing a kiss on your forehead.
"beer, cigarettes and a pretty girl. when did i get so lucky?" you'd laugh softly and pull him down to your mouth, catching his lips in a soft kiss before letting go.
"i'll sneak myself out. you get some sleep."
"okay."
they'd be a certain sadness in the air, neither of you wanting to leave the other.
"i'll see you all day tomorrow."
"i know."
"then don't be so pouty."
he'd be near the door, not eager to leave.
"i love you."
"i love you too."
and he'd be out the door and you wouldn't be able to hear him as he exited the house, smiling because he did listen when you told him to not step in certain places cause they creak. he always did listen. and the smile wouldn't leave your face as you slept, impatiently anticipating the morning.
this was much longer than anticipated...

Hi! This is a fic rec of my favorite fics that take place in a small town. These fics are organized by word count from longest to shortest. You can view my other fic recs here. Enjoy!
Given A Chance by fabby / @fabby1d (173k)
Five years after One Direction took their last tour, the last thing Louis Tomlinson ever expected to happen while on a tea run at the local Piggly Wiggly was to run into his ex-boyfriend and ex-bandmate Harry Styles.
The odds of them ever running into each other again had to be super slim, right?
Wrong.
What happens when you mix ex-boyfriends with a large serving of Small Town America? Will Louis and Harry be able to set aside their differences, or will Louis be able to stay breezy as fuck in the wake of Harry’s arrival?
(or, the one where Louis and Harry run into each other five years after One Direction ends and learn how to love each other again. Featuring: Reggie as the overweight labrador, Niall as Louis’ last grip on reality, and Nowheresville, North Carolina as the setting for Louis’ worst nightmare to come true.)
Wild and Unruly by 100percentsassy, Gloria_Andrews / @100percentsassy, @gloriaandrews (123k)
Harry is a cowboy sitting on the biggest oil reservoir in Wyoming, and Louis is the paralegal assigned to pressure him into selling his land.
I'll Fly Away by juliusschmidt / @juliusschmidt (122k)
Harry and Louis grew up together in Lake County, Harry with his mom and stepdad in a tiny cottage on Edward’s Lake and Louis in his family’s farmhouse a few minutes down the road. But after high school, Louis stuck around and Harry did not; Harry went to Chicago where he found a boyfriend and couple of college degrees. Six years later, Harry ends up back in Edwardsville for the summer and he and Louis fall into old patterns and discover new ones.
ft. One Direction, the local boyband; Horan’s Bar and Grill; families, most especially children and babies; Officer Liam Payne; many local festivals and fireworks displays; and Anne Cox, PFLAG President.
Halfway Home by itsmotivatingcara / @itsmotivatingcara (103k)
Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson were improbable childhood friends, much to Harry’s dismay. They were thrown together each summer when Harry was forced to visit Louis’ grandfathers’ ranch in Black Hills, South Dakota. With each passing year their friendship blossomed into something more. When trail rides turned to stolen kisses, and tragedies turned to confessions, until they could no longer deny the inevitable draw they felt for one another.
Though life and their future plans soon set them on different paths.
Ten years later, Louis is the proud owner of Halfway Home Wildlife Refuge. Harry returns to the ranch to escape the perils of his past in London, and though their memories still haunt Louis, he won’t let that deter him from his goals. However, someone has been keeping a close eye on the refuge, and possibly Louis specifically, and Harry’s return may have unleashed more that just old passions. There’s a hunter lurking in the Hills, someone who’s decided they’ve bided their time long enough.
Apple Pie Baked Just Right by 28goldensfics / @28goldens (92k)
“You’re sweet, thank you.” Harry was speaking so quiet it was almost eerie, but his fingers squeezed against Louis’ hand again. “I already feel like I can pretty much be myself with you. I’m glad you moved here, I’ve needed a friend. I hope you keep getting that breath of fresh air you need here.”
Louis’ heart felt like it could pound out of his chest and onto the floor in front of them.
“I’m starting to think I will.”
Louis has to get away. The news of his father’s terminal diagnosis, the loss of his job, and the breakup with his girlfriend leads Louis to leave for a life of slower things in the small town of Cedar Hills.
His new neighbor is the Cox Family Apple Farm. Harry Styles, the oldest child of the Cox Family, might just teach him how to live life a little simpler, bake an apple pie, and breathe.
Here In The Afterglow by fondleeds / @fondleeds (88k)
“If you hadn’t noticed, I don’t have many friends,” Louis whispers, the blossom of insecurity in his stomach unfurling and clawing its way into his throat.
Harry is silent for a long time, and then he speaks; a soft, slow uncurl that makes Louis’ stomach shake. “I’ll be your friend.”
-
1970’s AU. In a tiny town in Idaho, Louis’ life is changed forever by the arrival of a curious stranger.
(Take Me Home) Country Roads by Awriterwrites (86k)
“Sir, I can help you. Just let me — “ He tried moving closer but the eldest child blocked his way. He backed off, putting his hands out in a passive gesture. “I’m a physician. I can help,” he tried again.
The man shook his head vehemently, passing the cup back to his grandchild. “Tol’ ya. Don’t need ya.” All of the fire had gone out of his voice, leaving behind a frail, sick old man with barely any breath to talk.
“I have medicines...I could make you comfortable…” Louis’ voice was still small, but pleading.
“Mountain Mama cares for wha’s ailin’ me. Don’t need no fancy city doctors.”
Louis blinked at the man, still shaking from the coughing spell. Mountain — well, fuck. That backwoods, uneducated scam artist…
“Of course he is,” Louis said curtly. ***** OR a Northern Exposure AU featuring Louis as the big city doctor, Harry as a natural healer, Niall as a secretive barkeep, Liam and Zayn head over heels for each other but they don't know it and a lot of hurt, comfort and moonshine in between.
So Keep My Candle Bright by whisperdlullaby (78k)
Louis returns to his hometown after four years to find that the reverend’s son has done some growing up of his own.
That's What I'm Here For by taggiecb / @taggiecb (46k)
Louis Tomlinson is a dairy farmer on a tiny farm in eastern Canada. His wife of nearly thirty years has left him and his children are all grown up and out of the house. Louis needs help running his business but has no idea where to even start looking. Luckily for him his children know just the man for the job.
Home Calls the Heart by itsmotivatingcara / @itsmotivatingcara (44k)
A series of unfortunate events lands Louis Tomlinson in the heart of Texas. After running from his life in London and a performative marriage, he leaves a scandal in his wake. Home calls the heart, as his Nana always said. Though her words couldn’t be truer when he decides to take up her offer to watch over Hyacinth ranch while she travels abroad.
He figured the worst he’d have to deal with would be the meddlesome goats, some repairs and an errant spirit or two. That is, until the gorgeous Cowboy next door makes his presence known.
or
A romcom au.
The Best Kind of Bad by wildestdreams / @thelavendrhaze (40k)
Nobody really understood Harry and Louis. Not even Louis. But for Louis, the world began and ended with Harry, and there were certain things he just wasn’t capable of explaining.
or Louis is the town troublemaker and everyone hates him except for Harry.
Our Little Corner of the World by brownheadedstranger (29k)
AU. Louis is stuck in his mom's diner for the summer. Harry is the line cook with a pickup truck.
Not That Gone Series by abrighteryellow / @a-brighter-yellow
Hello My Name is Harry (2k) Louis’s 20-year high school reunion takes a turn when a celebrity classmate – who also happens to be Louis’s long unrequited crush – unexpectedly shows up. A famous/not-famous AU inspired by Chris Evans.
Not That Gone (60k)
Around four in the afternoon on day two, Harry was dropping kisses on Louis’ chest and heading downwards when he abruptly stopped. “I can move back here,” he said, propping himself up on the mattress with his hands. Louis’ eyes popped open and he looked up at him, totally lost. “What?” “For a while,” Harry continued, the idea taking hold. “Hang out with my mom. Work on my script. Be with you.” Louis had already resigned himself to the fact that this weekend was a crack in the space-time continuum that would soon close, sending him and Harry back to their respective, very different lives. It would be a memory that would keep him warm when he was an old, old man – that time one of People’s 50 Most Beautiful had kept him on his hands and knees for two days straight. He wasn’t so stupid as to hope for more. “You’re crazy,” Louis scoffed. Harry’s eyes shone. “Am I?” A few weeks after Louis and Harry, *ahem*, reconnect at their high school reunion, Harry temporarily moves back home. Louis isn’t sure he has the emotional fortitude for a prolonged fling with the man of the dreams. For Ten Minutes Straight (1k) Louis has a ritual for when Harry’s away – and a good reason for keeping it private.

A/N: Part 2 Small Town Dreaming can be found right here.
Many people would say living in a small town was too confining. But you would highly disagree. Nothing beats biking through town, saying hello to all of the locals. Knowing everyone and always looking out for each other, it was your place to be. Besides, you got enough excitement from your grandmother’s bed and breakfast, where you worked. There were enough out-of-towners to keep you satisfied with what was outside of your small town.
Propping your bike outside of the B&B, the bell above the door jingled as you entered. The smell of home and summer hit you and you let out a contented sigh. This was exactly where you belonged. And you couldn’t be happier.
“Good morning, Grandma.” You called out, knowing she would hear you from wherever she was in the building.
“Morning dear! Did you get everything from the store?” She answered from somewhere else.
You nodded, even though she couldn’t see you. “Yes, I’ve got the groceries and toiletries to spare. Anything else you need from me?”
“Oh, thank you, dear. Can you double check the guest book and the ledger? I want to make sure we’re not overbooked this summer. It is the busy season, you know.”
“Of course.”
Pulling out the thick guest book, as your grandmother refused to digitize anything, you started scanning who made a reservation and how long they would be staying. You double-checked everything against the receipts you made sure to receive and the large calendar on the front desk. A smile stretched across your face when everything checked out. You loved when things fell into place like this.
Despite everything being perfect according to the guest book, calendar, and receipts, one name caught your eye.
“Grandma, this Choi San who will be staying with us for a couple weeks, he’s not related to Ms. Choi, is he?” You asked.
Your grandmother, appearing by your side, glanced at the name and the receipt. She nodded, “Yes, she’s his great aunt. Apparently he’s looking to open a taekwondo studio here in town. If you ask me, I think it’s exactly what this town needs.”
You nodded absent-mindedly. “Yes, of course.”
“Oh, dear, before I forget, can you help me clean up room fourteen? The Sol family is going to be checking in late this afternoon.”
This knocked you out of your stupor and you smiled. “Yes, absolutely. We wouldn’t want to leave our customers waiting now, would we?”
She chuckled, pinching your cheek. “That’s why you’re my favorite employee and grandchild.”
The rest of the day went on like normal. You helped check the Sol family into their room, kept the rooms clean, directed guests to points of interest in town, and picked up dinner for you to share with your grandmother. However your mind was elsewhere. You couldn’t help but keep thinking about San who was coming tomorrow.
Ms. Choi was a dear friend of your grandmother and she spoke highly of her great nephew. She said he was a hard worker with a kind heart, friendly disposition, and a handsome face. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t interested in meeting him. But you wouldn’t tell your grandmother that. She was a notorious gossip and matchmaker. She’d try to set you up with him and be planning your wedding before you even had your first date.
You shook your head, banishing the thought from your head. You were being ridiculous. There was no way you were going to fall in love with him. Maybe you could be friends, but definitely not lovers. It sounded way too cliché, like a bad Hallmark movie.
“Did you hear me, dear?”
Glancing at your grandmother, who was giving you a cheeky smile, you sighed and shook your head. “I’m sorry, grandma.”
She waved her hand with a teasing scoff. “Don’t be. Your mind has been elsewhere all day. And don’t deny it! I know you well enough to know when you’re not thinking of work. If I didn’t know any better, I would think you were thinking of San all day.”
You practically choked on your food and she let out a bark of laughter. “Ha! I knew it! Oh I will have to tell Ms. Choi about this tomorrow when I meet her for tea and quilting along with the rest of the quilting society, which is what I was trying to tell you earlier. Oh, you’re free to join as well, dear. I’m sure the ladies would love to see you again!”
Trying to recover from almost suffocating, you said, “Shouldn’t someone stay here to look after the B&B? Besides, we have a couple coming to check in late tomorrow, don’t we?”
“You’re right, but still. At least make an appearance.” She encouraged you with a stern nod. “You spend too much time here, dear. I worry about your social health.”
“Believe me, grandma, my social health is just fine.”
“Sure it is.” She rolled her eyes and you groaned.
“Just, finish your dinner, please!”
“Whatever you say, darling grandchild of mine.”
You were tossing and turning all night, trying not to get too hung about tomorrow. San was just another customer. He was just a family member of a friend. He wasn’t special. You just needed to treat him like a normal customer, that’s all.
And so as you anxiously wait at the front desk, you repeat it over and over again. He was just a normal customer. He was just a normal customer. He was just a normal-
A perfectly normal and devilishly handsome customer.
Seriously, it was unfair how handsome he is.
“San?”
He smiled and you swear you were about to smack that frustratingly adorable smile off his face. “You must be Y/n. My great aunt told me about you and your grandma. She wasn’t kidding when she said that you take this bed and breakfast seriously.”
“Should I be flattered or offended?”
His smile fell, replaced with a look of dread. “No! No, no, no! I didn’t mean to offend you! I’m so sorry if I did!”
You laughed at his flustered state. “I’m just teasing. Are you ready to check in?”
He nodded, relief causing his shoulders to sag. “Yes, please.”
As he signed the guest book, which you noticed he had excellent handwriting, you commented, “So what are you doing staying in the bed and breakfast, instead of with your great aunt?”
“Well, her place is really small and she only has one guest bedroom that is so full of quilting materials, it’s basically a wall now. Besides, I was the one who suggested coming here, so that it forces me to find my own place faster and I stay out of her hair. Of course, she insisted that she pay for my stay.” He explained, handing back the pen.
You nodded and put the guest book away. “I completely understand. That’s why we don’t have anyone staying in room twelve. It’s full of my grandma’s quilting and scrapbooking materials.”
San laughed. “Looks like we both have overzealous and crafty relatives.”
A giggle escaped you. “Seems like.”
You handed him the key for room eight and showed him where he would be staying. San commented on how spacious, clean, and bright the room was before thanking you for your help. You listed off the amenities that came with a stay at the B&B, which included free breakfast every day and coupons to local eateries and shops. You also informed him of events going on in the town which made him chuckle, much to your confusion.
Noticing your slight concern, he said, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t laugh, but I couldn’t help it. You sound just like a tour guide. You must really love this town.”
Nodding sheepishly, you admitted, “I do. It’s where I grew up. I have so many fond memories and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I love how tight-knit everyone is. It’s like we’re all each other’s family. Some people would find this town boring because it’s small, but I find it charming.”
He shook his head. “I don’t find it boring at all. I agree that this place is charming.”
“Is that why you moved here.”
San shrugged. “It’s part of the reason. The other reason is I just needed to get out of the city. It’s too loud and chaotic. I needed something more stable, if that makes sense?”
“Absolutely.”
There was a brief pause before San said, “Actually, I was about to go see my great aunt to let her know I arrived. You wouldn’t happen to know where I can find her? I tried calling her home phone, which went to voicemail, and her cell phone is always off. I just thought I’d ask since you know everything about this town.”
You gave a sheepish smile. “I know where she’d be. She’s with the quilting society, with my grandma. I can show you there since she spends most of her time there.”
“Yes please.”
So the two of you walked through town, you pointing out places of interest and San telling you how the town differed from the city. Conversation came easy with him and you found that every time he placed a hand on your arm to direct you from people walking in the opposite direction, you felt your heart skip a beat. Could it be that your meddling grandmother was starting to get to you? Were you really falling for Choi San? You begged internally to keep him securely in the friend zone, but you knew deep down inside that wasn’t going to happen. Not if your grandmother and his great aunt had anything to say about it.
When you arrived at the quilting society, you opened the door for him, to which he gave you a skeptical look. “You know, it’s customary for the gentleman to hold the door.”
“I’m sure it is but I reached the door first.” You teased back.
“Next time.” He shot you a wink that made you freeze for only a split second.
“Is that my Sannie?” A shout from the back of the building distracted you.
He chuckled before calling back, “Yes Auntie.”
Instantly, the two of you were swarmed by quilting society members. Of course they commented on how much the two of you’ve grown and how it was so good to see you. They bombarded San with questions about his life from infancy to now. You hung back which eventually caught your grandmother’s attention and she joined you.
“So, are you showing San around?”
You nodded. “I just thought since I know so much about this place, he’d like an unofficial-official tour guide.”
She chuckled and patted your cheek. “Such a good kid. And he’s very handsome isn’t he?”
You tried to force your blush away from your cheeks. “He’s not unattractive, if that’s what you’re trying to say.”
“Well I think you two make a cute couple.”
“Grandma-”
Before you could scold her, San and his great aunt came up to the two of you, his aunt with a big smile on her face. “Sannie was telling me how helpful you’ve been, showing him around and telling him all about our little town. We were wondering if you would like to join us for dinner tonight?”
“That sounds wonderful!” Your grandmother answered before you could. “That way we can start planning the wedding!”
“Grandma no!”

Butterflies (Gwourtney Oneshot)
Courtney and Gwen didn’t share taste in a lot of things. Clothes, makeup, activities, movies were no exception.
So Courtney mostly just paid attention to painting her nails instead of watching the movie. Gwen seemed to be enjoying, though. As long as she was happy, Courtney was content. At least it wasn’t a horror movie.
“That guy who escaped the prison reminds me of Duncan,” Gwen stated.
Courtney looked up at the screen. The man on the screen was trailing gasoline to a large building. “Yeah. Real in character.”
“I can’t believe he actually blew up Chris McLean’s house. What was he thinking? That he was invincible? No, you’re going to prison. Fucking dumbass.”
Courtney laughed. “I can’t believe he seriously thought he would get sent to juvie after committing arson. I mean, Mr. McLean deserved it, the guy’s insane, but Duncan’s just as crazy.”
“I don’t know about that,” Gwen disagreed. “Chris has done some messed up stuff to this town with no thought of the people in it. Duncan is just a criminal who wanted to prove a point.”
“Fair point.” Courtney sighed. “I can’t believe I ever dated him. Especially when all I wanted to do was fix him.” She laughed, putting the nail polish brush back in the polish and closing it. “What was I thinking? Dating a criminal has had to be one of the worst decisions I’ve ever made. If I talked to myself before I knew Duncan, she would berate me for ever stepping foot near him.”
“God, I can’t believe I dated him either,” Gwen agreed. “I thought you were crazy for leaving him but man was I wrong. Getting together with him was the worst idea ever. Especially since it was right after I became friends with you. I’d pick you over a guy any day.”
Courtney’s heart beat a little bit faster. She brushed it off. Maybe it was just because she had a lot of coffee that day. That caused fast heartbeats, right? She had to stop drinking so much.
“I mean, I liked him, but it got weird fast,” Gwen stated. “You know?”
“Not really,” Courtney admitted. “I don’t even know if I ever even liked him. I think I maybe just liked the idea of him. A bad boy who had a soft spot for me. And he was, but did I really have a soft spot for him the same way?”
Gwen looked at Courtney with a bit more attention. “Woah. That’s news to me.”
“I don’t know,” Courtney shook her head. “I just don’t know anymore. He’s like, the only guy I ever liked. And now I’m wondering if I even did. Because like, when Bridgette talks about Geoff it’s so different. She’s talking about all this stuff I’ve never felt for a guy before. Like butterflies and stuff. Obviously I get those, but not for a guy. Not for Duncan.”
“...Really? I never knew.”
“Well, it’s not like I told you before.”
“I mean like I never noticed. But now that I think about it, I kinda do. I mean, you never went crazy about him like he did about you.”
“I guess so.”
The two remained quiet for a moment. Courtney thought about what Gwen had said. Yeah, she never went crazy about him. Not even in her own head.
“So, for the purposes of this obviously, what was liking Duncan like?” Courtney asked.
“Ugh, I don’t want to talk about that,” Gwen complained. “I’ll tell you how it feels to like the girl I like now, though.”
Courtney blinked. Girl? “What?”
“Oh, yeah. I kinda like a girl right now.”
Courtney shook her head. “What do you mean, girl?”
“Oh,” Gwen stopped. “I don’t think I told you. I’m bisexual. Is… that’s cool with you, right?”
Girl? Bisexual? What? “Gwen, what the hell is bisexual.”
“You…” Gwen was stunned. “You don’t know what bisexuality is? At sixteen?”
“What is it?”
“It’s like… I can like girls romantically the same way I can like guys romantically. I can like both.”
Courtney’s mouth stayed slightly open in awe. “That’s a thing? How have I never heard of that?”
Gwen shrugged. “I learned from my cousin when I was ten. And… do you know what lesbians are?”
“No. What’s that?”
“It’s someone who only likes girls romantically.”
Courtney sat back and stared forward at the movie that was still playing. “I never knew that before.”
“I mean, it’s not like people really teach us. People are assholes. Who think only guys and girls should ever like each other. Which is really shitty. Oh well.”
“Well, that explains why I never heard of it,” Courtney stated.
“Yeah. I guess you can look up stuff about it, if you want. I know you like learning. And research.”
Courtney stayed silent with a smile for a moment before; “So… you were saying you like a girl?”
“Yeah,” Gwen smiled as well. “She always makes me smile just being there, and when she just touches my arm I get butterflies and sometimes she says something and it just makes my heart beat faster… oh you smeared your nail polish.”
Gwen held the palm of Courtney’s hand to stabilize it while wiping the nail polish off of her finger with a tissue.
Courtney felt something light and fluttery in her stomach.
Butterflies.
“So did you ever have any of that with Duncan?”
“No,” Courtney whispered.
She couldn’t be loud. She didn’t have the strength. She was taken aback just moments before, she had just realized. She never liked Duncan, but she liked Gwen.
Who knew? Courtney didn’t know that was even possible until moments ago.
“Well, maybe you’re right. Maybe you never liked him.”
“Maybe,” Courtney agreed. “So… I’m getting tired. Are you ready to go to bed?”
“Oh yeah, sure,” Gwen said. “Let’s go to my room.”
Gwen shut off the TV and stood up, beginning to walk towards her room. Courtney followed, taking her nail polish to put back in her bag. She had to put her nails in ice water afterwards.
She dropped her nail polish in her drawstring bag.
“Be right back, Gwen. I’m gonna go put my nails in ice water.”
“Alright. Turn the lights off.”
“Yeah, totally. Night.”
“Goodnight.”
Courtney smiled. Check. That fast heartbeat earlier? Check. Butterflies? Check.
Courtney could proudly say she had never and will never like Duncan. However, she could not say the same for Gwen.

Well, folks!! I'm excited to announce that the last chapter of "We're Moving Where?" is complete!! Thanks to the lovely Lulu_Rythmea and 1LilBirde, this story was able to come to life!! I never would have been able to do it without them❤️ I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season, whatever you may celebrate!
Here's the summary and link everyone:
After most of Gotham is destroyed by an alien invasion, Jason and Dick must take de-aged Tim and Damian to find a new home in the aftermath. Not knowing the duration of their stay—or any place to settle under the radar—the Batboys find themselves in a small town.
How will they cope with daily life in the middle of nowhere Ohio, you ask? Well, they don’t know either; but one thing is certain, their lives are never simple.
Trigger Warning: implied past child abuse!
There is also some awesome fanart to follow :)

pandora rosier, the "witch" of the town, is actually a really unorganised mythology researcher with the motivation to test the ancient rituals to see if they actually worked
lily evans, the florist of the town, recently inherited the "Flowers & Groceries" shop from her dad and is discovering some stuff about herself.
the witch likes to pay the florist a visit every two days and making weird flower requests every now and then for "scientific reasons"

Tired Dad Philza catches the eyes of the recently moved-in Brazilian neighbors
*
Someone suggested an au a while back where qsmp would be located in a small town instead of an island where everyone's just small-town locals. And spooky stuff happens where they have to protect their kids.
Phil's basically a single parent but is married to Missa who is very busy and hardly around. Hopefully, no new potential suitor infiltrates the nest >:)

141 Small Town AU (With Graves and Los Vaqueros) (enjoy this while I procrastinate the next fanfics I have to write)
The one good body shop in town is run by Soap and his family. His grandfather probably opened the mechanic and it’s been a thing of pride for the McTavishs. Naturally, it’s continued to be run by the family, with Soap’s older sisters doing more of the business side, while he gets all oily and gross fixing cars. He loves it, and pretends not to notice all the people who bring their cars just to see him.
Basing it on Ghost’s canon backstory, he works in the grocery store (or an independent) butchery. He’s been doing the job for years and while it’s not pretty work, it makes a living and the hours aren’t terrible so he gets plenty of off time to spend with the handful of friends he has and with his beloved dog.
Gaz works at that backroad bar that everyone goes to. He’s always got a good story to tell if you ask, and won’t say a word if you give him an extra tip just because of appearance alone. He keeps the bar good and clean, there never seems to be a fight breaking out when he’s on shift.
Now, I had a hard time choosing whether I’d give this job to Price or someone else, but ultimately I decided that it fit him. He’s the police chief, he’s done a good job of cleaning up, has a strong sense of justice, and is well liked by everyone. It’s also a well known fact that he absolutely hates the mayor of the town, Shepherd.
Graves is the man who comes from that stupidly rich family, he was the former star quarter back in high school and now runs his family’s empire. If you get invited to one of the parties at his house, you know you’ve made it. he’s also got a big sway in the politics of the town as his family financed most of Shepherd’s campaign
Together, Alejandro and Rudy run the barbershop Cowboy Cuts, and you can trust them to cut hair. I mean, have you seen their hair?! And if you want to learn the dirt of what’s happening in the town, men are always talking their mouths off at the barber shop. Those two know just about everything happening in town.
Anyways, that’s my ramble of the day. Hopefully I can get back to writing my fanfics.
