“Are you even paying attention to me?”
You jolted in your seat, trying to act like you weren't dozing off while Yunho was reading the latest reports from the Kingdom out loud. “Yes, of course I am! Why? Do you think I’m not paying attention to you?”
Yunho sighed, setting the official documents in his hand down on the desk behind him. “Cut the act. I know you. You were most definitely not listening to me."
"Well then, why'd you ask in the first place?"
He shot you an unamused look to which you smiled uneasily. "What is it going to take for you to start seriously paying attention to your lessons, Your Highness? I’ve tried about all I can think of.”
Leaning forward, you propped your head on your hand before you gave him a cheeky smile, “Oh, I can think of a couple ways…”
A ruler smacked you on top of your head. “Don’t be vulgar.”
“Fine.” You sighed and leaned back in your chair, a pretty pout adorning your lips. “If you’re still keen on taking more serious suggestions, what about a change of scenery? The gardens should be in full bloom this time of year. Plus, there is a lot of space to spread out and study. Who knows? The clean, fresh air outside might do me some good and help with my faltering concentration.”
“That’s... actually not a bad idea.” He mused, as he thoughtfully tapped his chin. “Alright then. Pack your things. We’re heading outside to finish your lessons.”
Giddy about finally leaving the drafty library, you followed Yunho. As soon as you set foot outside, you let out a sigh of relief and closed your eyes. You relished in the warm summer sun dancing over your skin and the light breeze that ruffled your hair and clothes. It was definitely a much needed change of pace from the library. You were going to soak in as much as you could before you were inevitably marched back inside.
When you found a spot in the middle of the rose garden, Yunho helped you spread out your study materials before getting back into his lecture about the Kingdom’s economics and trade routes. You were definitely paying more attention to your lessons now. Not only did you finish faster, but you felt like you had retained more of the information then you would have if you continued studying in the library. You couldn’t help the smug smile you flashed at Yunho’s surprise.
“Didn’t think I could do it, huh?”
“I knew you could.” He disagreed with a soft shake of his head. “I just didn’t think it was the location that was affecting your focus and motivation to complete your work.”
Ignoring his slight at your work ethic, you tried your best to be as casual as you could as you asked, “Well considering how well I did today, I feel like I deserve a reward, don’t you?”
He sighed as he used his hand to cover the blush that had now creeped along his cheeks. “Now?”
You eagerly nodded. “Yes please! I would absolutely love a reward now, please!”
“Very well.” With a soft smile, he pressed his lips to yours for barely a millisecond. “There. Now-”
Cutting him off, you grabbed the lapels of his jacket and said, “Yunho, we’re alone, dear. It will be okay to give me my real reward now. I promise you, no one will find out.”
He turned a bright shade of crimson at your insinuating words. “But, but, but-”
“Shh. It’s my turn to teach and for you to learn.”

Good things aren't meant to last. You probably knew that better than anyone. That's just because you've been in at least three different marketing jobs in the last two years. Nothing lasts and nobody wants to keep you on longer than a few months. That is, until you found yourself employed at Nimbus Hotels. It was a temporary position, but your boss informed you that there was a strong chance of being able to extend your contract into a more permanent position.
So far, in the three months you've worked at this job, it wasn't all that bad. Actually, you found it far more enjoyable than your last three jobs combined. But you were still unsure about the stability of this position. It felt like the rug was about to be pulled out from under your feet and you would soon find yourself back where you started: job hunting. This just meant you were ever so careful with every move you made and every job you handled. The slightest mistake could be your career's very undoing and you were not about to let that happen, not now, not ever.
The silver lining was your hard work did not go unnoticed by your boss, who made it a point every day to come by your cubicle and tell you what a great job you were doing.
"I swear, you are one of the hardest working members on our team." Seonghwa shook his head with a smile.
You blushed at his compliment. "It's nothing, sir. I just want to show my gratitude for this position through my work."
"And you're doing a wonderful job at it, I assure you." He sighed. "Sometimes I wish others would follow your lead. Like Wooyoung. Perhaps someday you could give him some pointers?"
You bit your lip at the thought. It wasn't that you didn't like working with Wooyoung. On the contrary, the two of you became fast friends and he was determined to take you out drinking every night to get you to loosen up after working so hard. However, you were already busy enough as it is with your own workload. You didn't think you had time to train another colleague. Not only that, but Wooyoung has been here longer than you. It didn't seem right to have you, someone who was still relatively new to the business, to train your senior.
Of course, speak of the devil, another head popped up from the cubicle next to yours. "Seonghwa, don't you trust me? I am an excellent sales associate!"
Seonghwa sighed. "Wooyoung, you're nothing but a headache and a pain in the ass. Also you're overly familiar with your superiors, which would look very bad on your employee review."
Wooyoung pouted. "Why do you always have to lord my employee review over me? I thought my superior would be above such dirty tricks such as blackmail."
You covered your mouth to suppress your laugh at their antics. It was never a dull day between the sales associates when Wooyoung and Seonghwa had the misfortune of interacting. That's what made this job so entertaining.
However, you knew better than to let them keep going. Standing up, you intervened on Wooyoung's behalf. "Forgive me, sir. But I think Wooyoung is very capable. I think he can figure things out for himself. Consider it as a way of teaching him to sink or swim in business."
"I'm not sure if I should be offended or not." Wooyoung continued to pout, though there was still a twinkle of mischief in his eye.
Before you could speak again, the hotel's Vice President, Kim Hongjoong, appeared before the three of you. Seonghwa and you quieted down in a respectful manner and bowed to greet him. Wooyoung, on the other hand, simply graced him with a head nod, which made him scowl.
"I hope you three are staying out of trouble." He said, his voice as sharp as always. "You know that they're looking to let some workers go."
Wooyoung instantly straightened up at his words and you had to suppress a wince. Despite Seonghwa's words about being one of the hardest workers here, you couldn't help but feel like you were on the chopping block. You just hope that the President would do it as swiftly and painlessly as possible.
"Of course, sir. We're always on our best behavior." The teasing lilt in Wooyoung's voice did not go unnoticed by you. If you weren't up to be terminated before, your senior's teasing would certainly push you over the edge.
Hongjoong rolled his eyes before looking back at you. "The reason I'm here is because the President wants to see you."
Your eyes widened and you pointed to yourself. "Me?"
"Yes, you. I'm supposed to escort you to his office. Now follow me, and keep up, please."
And with that, he turned on his heel and headed for the President's office. You gave a panicked glance to your colleagues, who tried to offer you encouraging smiles, but they were definitely fake. With a deep breath to steel your nerves, you followed the Vice President. He kept a quick pace that was a bit difficult in your heels, but you managed.
As you walk together, you let your mind wander to all of the worst case scenarios collecting in your brain. The biggest thought that stuck out to you was you were definitely getting fired. The only question now was what for? You hoped you weren't taking the fall for another colleague, but you wouldn't put it past some of your co-workers to save their asses and throw you under the bus. Again, you prayed your termination was swift and painless.
When you arrived at his office, you wished you could have had some time to stop and look around. It was so spacious and tastefully decorated. The large windows had a perfect view of Seoul and it made you wonder how beautiful it looked at night. But despite your desire to stop and look at all the art on the walls, your eyes found their way to the President, who was currently filling out documents on his desk. You tried to swallow the growing lump in your throat, but to no avail.
Hongjoong knocked on the open door and gave him a professional smile. "Miss Y/n is here to see you, sir."
President Choi Jongho looked up and you swore you almost melted upon locking with his chocolate brown eyes. He nodded to his Vice President and said, "Thank you, Mr. Kim. You may go now."
"Of course, sir."
Hongjoong didn't spare you a second glance as he quickly exited, shutting the door behind him. Now you were alone with the President of Nimbus Hotels. Your fate in this company and your dream of working in marketing rested in his hands. It almost made you puke all over what you were sure was a very expensive carpet.
"Please, have a seat." He gestured to the pair of chairs in front of his desk. "I just need to finish these last couple documents and then I will be right with you. Can I get you anything? Water? Coffee?"
You shook your head and he returned to reading and signing the documents before him. So much of a quick and painless termination, although you were a little touched he was being so accommodating by offering you something. Still, as much as you tried to not let your nerves show, you couldn't stop yourself from shifting in your seat. You weren't an impatient person, it's just you were dying to know why he called you into his office.
Putting his pen away, Jongho finally looked up at you. "First, I want to thank you for meeting with me right away. Although, knowing my Vice President, he didn't give you much of a choice. He doesn't like it when he has to play secretary, but Solbi was sick today."
You nod, discreetly wiping your sweaty hands on your skirt. "It's quite alright, sir. I don't mind."
He smiled and you internally gave a sigh of relief. Your response seemed to have earned you a point in your favor. "I also wanted to inform you that I'm very pleased with your work as of late. I understand you haven't been here long, but you've been a very admirable worker. You complete all of your assignments on time, you're a great team player, and you're good at keeping morale up in the office. I want you to know it does not go unnoticed."
Here it was. You've been through this type of meeting three times before. He was buttering you up before informing you he was "regrettably" letting you go. You took another deep breath to keep your nerve up for a little while longer. Then when you make it back to your apartment this evening, you can drown your sorrows with ice cream and cheesy movies.
"It is because of your good work and good nature, I would like to send you to a conference in two weeks to represent the hotel."
Wait.
He's not firing you?
But you thought... didn't these conversations always go that way?
"Pardon me, sir?" You exclaim, completely flabbergasted.
His polite smile only widened. "The hotel has been invited to a conference and I'm hand selecting a team I would like to represent us. I decided on you to represent the marketing department of the hotel, that is if you accept the offer."
"I..." You trailed off, still completely confused with what exactly he was offering you. "I'm not being fired?"
He quickly shook his head. "No! Not at all! I wouldn't dream of firing you! You are an exceptional asset to the marketing team, which is all the more reason you are being considered for this spot on the team."
It was hard not to feel flattered from the complement of being considered an asset, so you let a small blush grace your cheeks. "I'm honored, sir, truly."
"That's good to hear." He nodded before his voice got quiet. "So, are you accepting the offer?"
You nod. "Yes, sir. I would be more than happy to represent the hotel at this conference!"
Jongho smiled so bright it almost blinded you, but it was an absolutely beautiful smile. "Wonderful! I will email you the conference's welcome packet and the itinerary for the event. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me! I want to make sure everyone on the team is prepared for anything."
"Yes, of course, sir." You bow your head as you stand. "I promise, I won't let you down."
He shook his head, still smiling. "You won't let me down. I know you won't. I have all the faith in the world that you will be perfect like always."
Again, you blushed at his compliment and bowed your head once more. "Thank you, sir."
"Oh, and one more thing," he adds, "if this conference goes well, which I'm sure it will, I would like to offer you the spot on the next advertising conference in a few months. I think you are the perfect candidate to help advertise the hotel."
"Of course, sir! I would love to!" You bow one final time before excusing yourself.
Hongjoong is waiting near the door to escort you back down to your desk. He has a pleasant smile on his face. "I'm impressed. The President doesn't usually doesn't send rookies to conferences. He's very particular about cultivating the perfect image for the hotel. You must have really impressed him. That or he has a soft spot for you."
"Pardon?" You ask. This had to be the second most surprising thing you heard all day.
He chuckled. "Forgive me, I'm speaking out of turn. But I wouldn't be surprised. He's not very subtle when it comes to showing his affection, though he believes he is."
You want to ask him more about what he means, but you find yourself at your desk. As soon as Hongjoong left the marketing department, Seonghwa and Wooyoung descended upon you with hundreds of questions. You explain to them that you're not getting fired and that you've actually been selected to go to a conference in two weeks to represent the hotel.
"You mean the big hotelier conference that only the best hotels in the world are invited to?" Seonghwa shakes his head. "You are so insanely lucky, you have no idea. Not just anyone can go to that conference. And you'll be representing the entire marketing department as well as the hotel as a whole. That's quite the honor!"
"How did you even get selected?" Wooyoung asked, a pout tugging at his lips. "I should be the one to go!"
"Believe me, Wooyoung, you'll be the last one to be invited." Seonghwa shook his head.
You shrug and shake your head in disbelief. "President Choi called me an exceptional asset and said that's why I was chosen. Although..."
"Although?" Wooyoung perked up as he always does when gossip is being spilled.
You bit your lip before spilling what you heard. "According to Vice President Kim, he might have a soft spot for me. But that would just be ridiculous right?"
Wooyoung and Seonghwa looked at each other before turning back to you. Seonghwa said, "Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. But I wouldn't think too much into it."
"Oh he is so in love with you! Now the question is how do we exploit it?" Wooyoung replied on top of him.
You winced at their words before holding up your hands to stop them. "Look, whether he likes me or not, it's not important. What is important is making sure this conference goes off without a hitch and that's what I plan to do. I'm not even going to consider any sort of romantic feelings until afterwards."
"Smart." Seonghwa nodded.
Wooyoung smirked. "Just don't be surprised if he does try to make a move on you at the conference when you both are alone."
You groaned and buried your face in your hands. In your mind you just hoped nothing crazy would take place at the conference in two weeks.

A/N: Part 2 to Small Town Living. I strongly recommend reading that one first.
The bell above the Bed and Breakfast door caught your attention. After plastering on your customer service smile, it quickly melted to something more genuine when you saw who it was. Your rigid and professional posture melted as you rested your head on your hand, elbow propped up on the counter before you.
"Well, well, well. Look who it is! Mr Big Shot Businessman himself! He's come to grace us with his illustrious presence!" You teased him, your cheeky grin growing with each word.
San shook his head and slipped off his blazer. "Oh please. You're embarrassing yourself."
"Hey, I'm not the one who spent the last week at a business seminar at the best business college in the country."
"I wasn't even a keynote speaker. I was just the opening act for some other small business tycoon." He sighs before slipping behind the counter to give you a soft, sweet kiss on the cheek. How you missed his kisses. He's been gone for too long.
You shrug and pull him into a hug, allowing him to rest his head on your shoulder. "Still, it was quite the honor for you to be invited. Did you have fun on your little business trip?"
He nodded against you. "It was fun. I met some very interesting people, learned a lot about what it takes to run a business, and was up to my ears in business cards. The food was pretty good too and the hotel's pool was ginormous."
Nodding along with him, you reply, "Wow. That does sound like a lot of fun."
"Still, I couldn't help but find myself missing home." He mumbles before pulling away to press one kiss to your forehead and another kiss to your lips. "How did you fare without me?"
"Well, the Bed and Breakfast is still standing, so that's a good start." You chuckle to yourself as he smiles. "But other than that, nothing big and exciting happened. It's a small town, so when does anything super big and exciting happen here?"
"Hey, quit selling this place short. It has a lot of charm, you know." He shot back with a teasing grin before kissing your forehead once more.
"You're right, you're right." You nod before letting out a little sigh. "It's just... you get to go and do all of these fun business seminars and I'm stuck here waiting for you. Forgive me for sounding a little jealous, but I think it would be super fun if we were invited to go together. You know, like a power business couple."
He hummed to himself and solemnly nodded. "Well, my dearest, I'm glad you brought that up. Because I met some very interesting hoteliers while I was at the seminar last week."
"Someone's Mr. Popular." You tease him, playfully poking him in the chest and earning yourself a scoff.
"I suppose you could say that. But I brought up your grandmother's Bed and Breakfast, and how you've been running the place all on your own since her health has been on the decline. And they wanted me to tell you that there is a big hotel conference and workshop this summer for two weeks. They want you to be a speaker for one of the workshops."
Your jaw dropped at his words. "They want me? Really?"
He smiled. "Yeah, they were really impressed by your work ethic and commitment to your guests. They said if they like what you bring to the table at that conference, they'd be open to making you a keynote speaker at their next conference in the winter."
You could feel your heart practically beating out of your chest with excitement. You always knew you were good at your job and could handle anything that was thrown your way. But to have other people not only acknowledge your hard work, but to ask you to be a leader for others? It had you bursting with both pride and joy. This was the opportunity of a lifetime and you were definitely not about to waste it!
"Absolutely! I'd love to go!" You clapped your hands in delight.
Of course, that's when a terrible thought crossed your mind. "But, who's going to manage the B&B? My grandmother is still pretty weak. I can't ask her to resume responsibility for two weeks. That wouldn't be fair!"
San shook his head. "Don't worry, I already have it covered. My sister and her husband said they would love to handle things while we are out of town. Remember how well they did the last time we had them lend a hand?"
You nodded as you remembered your week long vacation out of town for your three year anniversary with San. It was the perfect getaway with the perfect traveling companion. And the B&B did just fine under their care. Yes, you would definitely be okay with this arrangement.
With a sigh, you raked your fingers through your hair. "Well now I have to think about what I'm going to say at this conference! How do I cram years of knowledge into a twenty minute speech? How many stories are too many stories? What if people only pity me because they think I'm only doing all of this for my grandma, and not because I want to? There's so much to do and I only have three months to prepare!"
"Hey, relax!" San gently takes you by the shoulders. "You're going to be just fine! Besides, I'll be here to help you if and when you need it. I've done a good number of these speeches. I think I know my way around a business conference."
You sigh and melt back into his embrace. "What would I do without you?"
He shrugs. "Who knows? Probably still running around this Bed and Breakfast looking for something to do since you can never sit still for long."
"That's true..."
San sighs before pulling away with a bright smile on his face. "But, let's not worry about this now. Instead, I have dinner reservations tonight for the two of us at the nicest restaurant in town. They're in about an hour and a half, so we should probably start getting ready now."
You nod. "Alright, sounds good. Meet back in the lobby in an hour?"
"Done."
And with that, the two of you scurried off to get ready for dinner. It wasn't often that San surprised you with a fancy night on the town, so you weren't about to let this opportunity pass you by. You assumed it had to do with the fact that he had just returned home from his latest business trip. He always tried to do something nice for you when he came home. Considering this was his longest one yet, a fancy dinner seemed like the appropriate surprise. And you were more than happy to indulge in some wining and dining with your favorite person.
After meeting up in the lobby, San escorted you to his car and drove you through the town to the restaurant. You marveled at all the lights as you drove by. Sure you've seen them countless times before, but they still took your breath away each and every time. When you arrived, the two of you linked arms and entered the restaurant. The two of you were seated at a beautiful table with a view of Main Street. So far, everything was perfect.
Dinner also was exquisite. San ordered some pretty expensive wine and you both had luxurious food fitted for your tastes. The conversation you both indulged in was fun and light-hearted. Everything was going so well, you couldn't imagine a better night.
"You know I was thinking." San said as the two of you left the restaurant. "How about a quick stroll through the park? It's not far and it is a beautiful night."
How could you say no? As soon as you nodded, he gently led you to the park. Again, the two of you talked about anything and everything under the stars. You found yourself leaning against him, enjoying his presence more than usual. You didn't want this night to end.
San stopped right in front of a willow tree before facing you. "Alright, I have a confession to make. I had an ulterior motive for tonight."
You slowly nod, a drop of ice cold anxiety slipping through your veins. "Oh?"
He nods. "It has to do with what you said earlier, about us being a powerful business couple."
That eased your mind somewhat and your shoulders relaxed. "Yes? What about it?"
Your ease did not last long as he took your hands and knelt to the ground. It felt like both your breath and your heart stood still. You both had talked about this before but you never knew when or if he would ever ask you. You kept as still and as silent as possible as you awaited his words.
"My dearest, this last business trip was the longest I've been away from you since I moved here. And I realized while on that trip, I didn't want to be apart from you that long again. I want to be a powerful business couple with you. I want to be the best couple in the world with you. I want to help your Bed and Breakfast soar just like you've encouraged me to take my taekwondo studio to each new level. I want us to break barriers and shatter glass ceilings together, never letting the other fall behind. I want to be with you for the rest of my life. So I ask you, please, will you marry me?"
Tears welled in your eyes. It felt like you couldn't get the words out, but you managed to choke something out. "Yes! Yes! Absolutely yes!"
San wrapped you into a tight embrace as you cried into his clean white shirt. When you caught your breath and cried out all of your happy tears, he gently placed the ring on your finger. It was absolutely beautiful and it almost made you start crying again. But San was there to wipe away your tears.
"I can't wait to begin a new chapter of my life with you." He whispered as he stared lovingly at the ring on your finger.
"Me neither." You sigh before letting out a little gasp. "Oh my God! We need to call my grandma!"
Before he could say anything, you whipped your phone out and FaceTimed her. As soon as she popped up on the screen, you told her what happened and showed her the ring.
The first words out of her mouth were, "I TOLD YOU SO!"

Your Words and Your Love ~ *Kim Hongjoong*

The piano keys were cool to the touch, as they had not been played in quite some time. You had been meaning to practice again, but you could never seem to find the right melody. Every time you sat down to play, there was something missing, as if you were missing a handful of important notes to play a proper song.
However, deep down in your heart, you knew the reason why you couldn’t seem to find the time or energy for a song. It wasn’t so much the notes, but rather the room you practiced in. It felt too big, too cold, too lonely. It wasn’t what was missing, but rather who was missing.
If you remembered correctly, and you were certain you did, today marked six months without your love and husband by your side. He had been called away on a matter of utmost importance with his music in a foreign country. Hongjoong assured you that it was nothing for you to worry about and he would take care of it on his own. He vowed the trip would not last longer than three months and that he would write to you every single day. Hongjoong never went against his word, but by the eve of the third month, he had written his final letter to you. He had informed you that there would be a small delay, but it wouldn’t be long before he was back in your arms again.
That last letter was sent three months ago and not a word since. You tried to hold onto what little faith and hope you could, but each passing day made it more and more difficult. You missed him dearly. More often than not, you would cry yourself to sleep, begging for some divine intervention so that you may wake up in the morning with him lying next to you. You would stare forlornly out the window, wondering and praying that today would be the day he would ride in and hold you again, like he did.
In the time he had been absent, you noticed small things going amiss. You noticed how much quieter the manor seemed without his constant music and singing. He was the reason you kept up with learning new piano pieces instead of staying with the same old songs. After the quietness, came the lack of smell. You could no longer smell his cologne on his pillow or in his study. You used to complain lightly that he wore too much of it, but now you wished for nothing more than to have it back.
Now, the truly most frightening of things, you were beginning to forget the way he held you, as if you were made to be in his arms and no one else’s. It scared you more than words could describe. You feared that after forgetting his touch you would forget his laugh and then his smile and then his eyes, until he became nothing more than a memory that felt more like a dream. You couldn’t bear to witness the day you would forget who the love of your life is.
“Miss.” Your lady’s maid bobbed a quick curtsey before scurrying over to you with a concerned expression. “Are you quite alright? Are you still distraught? Shall I make you some tea or get you a compress while you lie down?”
Thinking over her questions, you looked at the piano again. You shook your head as you said, “No, I am fine. But if you please, could you select one of Hongjoong’s pieces. Something pretty and uplifting, if you please, dear.”
She inhaled sharply before softly saying, “Are you sure you can manage, miss?”
“I’m sure I have not forgotten how to play. Please, anything you like, as long as it’s happy. I don’t think I could bear to listen to any of his more melancholic pieces.”
Nodding, she went to his work desk on the opposite side of the room. Rifling through some papers, you sat down and took the piece she offered you. It was your turn to be caught off-guard, reading the title: Your Words and Your Love. It was the piece he specifically composed to play on your wedding day. It was the best song he ever composed in your opinion and you used to play it once a week when you entertained guests, as everyone was so astonished by the intricacies and affection within the notes of the song. It was a song you haven’t heard in months; you almost forgot it existed. Another thing about Hongjoong you were beginning to forget which only made your anxiety grow.
Nevertheless, you forced a smile and thanked her. “Thank you. If you would like to stay and listen, you may, but if you would rather go-”
“I’ll stay.” She assured you with a knowing smile. “Just in case you become overwhelmed, miss.”
You nodded before looking at the keys before you. After just one glance at the sheet music, the memory of playing it came rushing back and you knew muscle memory still held the notes within it. All you had to do was press the first key.
And so you did.
The tempo was slow and mournful, unlike the way Hongjoong had originally written it. You couldn’t bring yourself to play it correctly, for it felt much too happy for you. Instead you played it softly and sweetly, feeling tears well in your eyes. You just wanted your husband back. Was it really too much to ask for?
Your breath hitched in your throat when you got to the climax of the song and you had to stop. A few tears slipped down your cheeks, splashing onto the piano keys. Your hands rested on the cover for the piano keys, wanting to lock the piano forever and keep it closed with hope that he would return to you.
“Don’t stop on my account, dearest.”
A voice you haven’t heard in months spoke out to you. Gasping, you turned to see Hongjoong leaning against the doorframe, looking tousled and more tired than usual. He was smiling at you with that roguish smile that you had fallen in love with oh so long ago.
Before he could speak again, you had leapt off the piano bench and threw yourself into his arms. Now the tears were free falling from your cheeks as you held him tighter than you thought possible. He held you just as close and you could hear his shuddering breaths, as if he himself was trying not to cry. Pulling away, you saw his tear-stained eyes and as one dribbled down his cheek, you brushed it away with your thumb.
“Please tell me this isn’t a dream.” He breathed, pressing his forehead to yours. “Please tell me this isn’t some wonderful, splendid, wretched dream. Please, please, please tell me you are real and you are really in my arms right now.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle before pressing a kiss to his lips. “I do believe it is real.”
“Oh thank God.” He murmured before picking you up and spinning you around the parlor like crazy. A shriek of delight left you and he laughed at your reaction. Setting you down, he peppered your face in kisses, making you giggle like a giddy school girl.
With a sigh, you said, “I missed you so much, I was afraid if you did not return to me soon, I would go mad from loneliness. I was beginning to forget you and it frightened me so. Promise me, Hongjoong, promise me that you will never leave me like that ever again.”
He nodded, becoming deathly serious. Kneeling on one knee before you, he took both of your hands in his. “You have my word. You have all my words. I will never compose for another soul other than you. If I am ever to leave for some strange reason to be parted from you, I shall simply take you with me. I will never leave your side ever again.”
You chuckled before shaking your head. “No, no. You must make wonderful music for other people or we shall never get any money.”
“So my beloved wife only loves me for my money, is that it?” He teased making you shake your head again.
“No. I love you for you and I will always love you for you.” You assured him.
Standing up, he kissed you long and slow and sweet. You smiled into the kiss, certain it would not be your last. Your heart was overflowing with love and gratitude. Your wish to have your husband in your arms again had come true. And you were just as determined as he was to never let him go again.
After the kiss, he led you to the piano where he smiled fondly at the sheet music. “My dearest, would you be so kind as to play this again for me? I do so love it when you play it.”
You nodded before kissing his cheek. “As long as you sit next to me while I play.”
He nodded, faking seriousness. “Oh, most certainly. It is the only proper way to play it.”
Giggling, you sat on the bench and he sat next to you. Looking into his eyes, he smiled lovingly and kissed your lips once more. You then started to play his song specially intended for you, just the way it was written: with love and admiration and joy.
