Jamil snapped his book shut and took a deep breath.

"Yeah, I'm in Scarabia," he mustered his most polite smile. Normally, he wouldn't be so snappy but he was already on the last straw from all of Kalim's demands so early in the morning. "I'm sorry, I'm just kind of busy. I don't mean to be rude but could you maybe talk to someone else?"

Your mouth formed an "o" as you realized his previous cues. You nodded sharply and mimed zipping your mouth closed. Jamil sighed and went flipping through the book, trying to find where he left off.

He had only read one page when he heard a loud tapping from next to him. He held back a roll of his eyes and turned to you, who was anxiously tapping your pencil on the desk.

"Do you need something?" Jamil smiled at you, ever so condescendingly. You looked up, a little confused but picked up your pencil and chuckled when you realized he was talking about the pencil.

"Ah! Sorry, sorry! Nervous habit," you chuckled awkwardly. He shot you a pointed look before going back to his book. You sighed in relief, wishing you were less nervous talking to him.

You had seen Jamil around last term but you didn't have any classes with him. You admitted that you had a bit of a schoolyard crush, admiring him for all that he takes on to deal with Kalim and the rest of Scarabia. Finally, you had an excuse to talk to the pretty vice dorm leader and you had managed to annoy him on your very first introduction. You weren't one to give up, however, and you vowed to make a better impression.

Once class started, you couldn't help from sneaking glances at the boy next to you. It was subconscious since you were thinking about him. Geometry was boring anyway and it was so much more interesting to dream up scenarios where you got Jamil to like you.

"L/N, since you're so confident in your abilities that you don't bother paying attention, would you mind telling me how to find the area of a circle with a radius of 7 cm?"

The professor was looking at you expectantly. You stumbled over your words, your brain struggling to catch up. He raised an eyebrow at you and you cleared your throat.

"It's, um, pi r squared for area, right?" You scribbled πr^2 in your notebook. "You just have to plug 7 in for r and you get..." You trailed off as you tapped the buttons of your calculator with the back of your pencil. "153.94!"

You hadn't realized that Jamil had noticed every "subtle" glance you sent his way. It was starting to get on his nerves, the way your eyes kept darting to him. He tried to concentrate but he felt your gaze on him like you were burning holes right through his head.

When you were called on by the teacher, he thought his worries would be over. He never in a million years imagined that he would have the wrong formula for the problem. He had only just met you and you were already upstaging him.

Jamil rolled his eyes and looked away from you, not missing the dejected look on your face out of the corner of his eye. He couldn't help but feel a little guilty about his behavior, but he tried not to get too hung up over it. He was used to being second place by now. You could never bother him as much as his dear dorm leader did.

When the bell rang, he couldn't be happier to be away from you. Something about you put him off and it wasn't your nervous tics. Damien was raised in a wealthy household where all of his needs were met and nothing was too expensive. Though because of this, he became spoiled and wouldn't accept anything but the best. His life seemed to be perfect. He was popular, had a good relationship with his mom and twin brother, and was really close to his dad. But that perfect life crumbled when he was 9 the day his dad died. He was devastated and would refuse to leave his room for anything besides school

His father's death affected his school life. His heart had grown bitter and he began to snap at others. Though he apologized, people grew wary around him. Things only got worse when his mother remarried. He had gained a stepfather and a stepbrother which he hated. He would refuse to become close to his stepfather and would be rude to his stepbrother. All the bitterness grew and it once again affected his school life. His resentment towards his stepfather and stepbrother made him toxic and manipulative. This new personality made people stay away from him and stop being his friend

After realizing he had no one else besides his twin brother, Damien felt the same sadness that came with the loss of his father. He accepted himself as a bad person. He was afraid to change because if he did, what would happen if he became toxic again? He didn't want to relieve losing all his friends so he decided it was best to keep being toxic

Adrian Marwood: Damien's relationship with his twin brother is very strained. They know they care about each other and are there for each other when they need it.
