Always There - Chapter Seventeen: S.Snape

Summary: Y/N Potter was left with a baby to care for after her brother and sister-in-law were murdered by Voldemort. One person was there for her, a person she didn’t expect but soon became her comfort person, Severus Snape. During Harry’s third year at Hogwarts and her third year as Herbology professor, a few old friends come around again. Y/N has to handle the feelings of these old friends being around again as well as handle her feelings for a certain potions master all while she tries to hide these things from her godson.

It was approaching winter so that meant colder weather and holiday decorations going up around Hogwarts. However, one night, Y/N and Severus were woken up by frantic knocking on their door. She was discombobulated as she opened the door to reveal Minerva, who had a concerned look on her face.

“Dumbledore wishes to see you both in his office, right away. This is urgent,” She told her, Y/N was wide awake with her tone of voice, rushing to wake Severus as the three of them rushed to the headmaster’s office. Harry was there, completely spaced out.

“What’s going on? Harry, love, can you tell me what happened?” She asked her nephew. He snapped out of it looking at his aunt with a wild look in his eyes. She didn’t recognize him for a moment, his eyes seeming snake-like.

“I saw Mr. Weasley getting attacked by a snake at the ministry. It was Voldemort’s snake, what’s wrong with me?” Harry asked his aunt desperately.

“Nothing my love, nothing at all,” She reassured him before turning to Dumbledore, “do you have anyone checking on Arthur? Do we think this is a dream or if Harry actually saw this happen in real time?”

“I sent someone to check on Arthur and I’ve gotten word that he was taken to St. Mungos. Severus, the boy needs to start occlumency,” Albus explained.

“Now? Can’t it wait until morning? He’s clearly not ready to start learning something new right now, he needs to rest as do I,” Severus questioned.

“Yes, now. We don’t know if Voldemort knows about the connection he has with the boy, we need to get a headstart now before he realizes the connection.”

“The boy has a name! His name is Harry and I agree with Severus. Both of them need to rest before they start this! It’s too much for both of them just waking up!” Y/N argued with the bearded man, frustrated with how he was talking about her nephew as if he wasn’t in the room.

“They must start tonight, that is final!”

“Listen to me!” Harry screamed, everyone falling silent in shock. “I don’t know if Voldemort knows about the connection because I barely knew, I can do it tonight as long as you can Uncle Sev.”

Severus nodded and ushered the boy to the dungeons where they would begin their lessons. Y/N shook her head at the headmaster before making her way to the potions classroom where she knew Severus and Harry would be. She walked in and silently sat at the back of the room as she watched the two most important people try a new method to keep Harry safe. She knew it was starting to take a toll on both of them, both very obviously tired even though they had enough energy to argue with one another.

Y/N knew what it was like to pry into the minds of others and have her mind pried into as well. It wasn’t fun. She knew it was rough on Severus because he didn’t want to see the boy suffering with these memories he was seeing. Most of Harry’s memories were on the happier side, especially the ones with his aunt in them, but he also possessed some dark memories as well, such as watching the dark lord rise and Cedric dying in front of him.

As the two were getting tired, they called it a night, Y/N dropping a kiss on his forehead before sending him back to the Gryffindor tower. Severus walked up to her and pulled her into his arms. “A lot of his memories are of you,” He said quietly as he buried his head in her neck.

“Good ones?” She asked, resting her head on his.

“Most were. Come, let’s go back to bed.” The two of them let go of their embrace, taking each other’s hand and walked back to their quarters. He was able to fall asleep rather quickly but she had a hard time trying to. She was restless, her mind racing. If Harry was aware of the connection with Voldemort, was the dark lord aware of the connection too? If the dark lord knew about the connection, would he use it to his advantage? Would he manipulate Harry into thinking that someone important to him has been attacked, has been killed?

The next morning as Severus awoke from his sleep, he reached out to her side of the bed only to find it cold and empty. He picked his head up to find her staring out of one of the few windows in their quarters, watching as the creatures swam by. He sat up and let out a yawn before getting out of bed to join her. “What’s on your mind my love?” Severus asked as he sat beside her.

“Does Voldemort have any idea that there’s a connection between him and Harry? That Harry has been seeing these things through Nagini before he even knew about a connection?” She questioned.

“I don’t know, there’s a chance he doesn’t know yet but I think he will catch on soon,” He told her with honesty, “But, there is no reason to worry about it just yet. Harry has already left for Black’s place, so let’s get ready to meet him there. I know you’re missing your friends.”

With that, the two of them got ready together, packed a bag for the break and took a portkey to 12 Grimmauld Place. She was greeted with a tight hug from Sirius who had missed her greatly over the last few months and then an equally tight hug from Remus. Severus took their bags to the guest room as Y/N caught up with her friends.

“Snivellus proposed?” Sirius asked her as he inspected her ring, his voice showing nothing but shock and surprise.

“What did I tell you about that name, Siri! Stop calling him that!” She scolded her friend. “But yes, Severus proposed. We were thinking about eloping because of the state of the wizarding world.”

“And he didn’t think to ask your two best friends for permission?”

“He asked me, maybe if you weren’t such an ass to him maybe he would’ve asked you,” Remus chimed in.

“He asked you?” Sirius and Y/N asked in unison.

“Of course I did. Remus is like a brother to her, I had to ask him,” Severus said as he descended the stairs, “And I asked Harry of course.”

“Speaking of, where is my boy? I want to make sure he’s okay,” Y/N asked after realizing she had yet to see her nephew.

“He went with the Weasley’s to visit Arthur. He’s doing better, should be home in a few days,” Remus replied, “Now I think we should leave our men alone to have a chat. We need to catch up without those two in the way.” The two walked off to the kitchen leaving Sirius and Severus alone.

“Remus was right, you know, I would’ve asked your permission if you weren’t such an asshole. Other than Harry, you were the first person I thought of to ask permission for her hand.”

“I never realized how shitty I was to you. I’m sorry, Severus. If you did ask, I would’ve said yes with no hesitation. You make her happy, you keep her sane and you’ve been there for her longer than I was able to be. Thank you for taking such good care of my sister,” Sirius apologized, his voice sincere. He meant every word he had said, knowing he wasn’t always the nicest to Severus. He wanted to make things right before the potions master became a permanent part of his life because Y/N would be a permanent part of both of theirs.

Probably a weird question, but which HP characters do you imagine as LGBTQIA or/and POC? (Because let’s make Joke Rollling/She Who Must Not Be Named… ANGRY!! 😏)

I would LOVE TO! J.K.Rowling is Rita Skeeter to me. Also you should look up 'The Worst Witch,' because it's basically Harry Potter.

𝑯𝑬𝑹𝑴𝑰𝑶𝑵𝑬

Most definitely black, or what if she came from an Indian family who wanted her to marry and the Wizarding World was her escape? She studies hard because this new world is a second chance for freedom!

I also wish Hermione was bisexual/pansexual. She and Ginny, or even she and Cho would make such a gorgeous couple!

𝑳𝑼𝑵𝑨

I think it would have been cool if she was an albino (I am so sorry if that's not the right way to say it. I don't want to offend anyone). Her long white hair, pale skin, translucent lashes and brows. With beautiful purple eyes (this is actually how I imagined the Targaryens to look, not just having white hair).

She is definitely demisexual; only feeling attraction after developing a friendship first. I can also see Luna as trans!

𝑯𝑨𝑹𝑹𝒀

I've seen some fancasts and fanart of Harry with his ethnicity being Indian, or Pakistani. Which I'm completely okay with. Maybe even James is half black, and that makes Harry a quarter, so it's still noticeable - and another thing that the Dursley's are horrible to him about.

I think Harry is Bi/Pan - I have this headcanon that he had a crush on Oliver Wood, and Katie Bell when he was in first year.

𝑹𝑶𝑵

I honestly just see Ron as a normal hetero male. Honestly, there's nothing queer about him at all. But he is very supportive of his friends and family as well as the LGBTQIA+ community. He would always be at Pride with whoever asked him, and have anyone's back who needed it.

And the Weasley's are known for their red hair, so I think I would keep their heritage/ethnicity the same!

𝑫𝑼𝑴𝑩𝑬𝑳𝑫𝑶𝑹𝑬

YES, THIS MAN IS A GAY MAN. But I feel as though he's very monogamous; he will love one person, even if they do not love him back, for the rest of his life. Like with Grindelwald, Dumbledore couldn't stop the feelings he had - even though the man was turning into a pretty evil one.

𝑺𝑵𝑨𝑷𝑬

His sexuality always confused him. Because he was in love with Lily, truly in love with her. But sometimes he found James attractive, and he hated himself for it.

Shows himself as straight, but I think he's bisexual or at least bi-curious.

I think for his ethnicity, it can be the same. Pasty white skin, black hair, hooked nose. Maybe his family distantly came from a Mediterranean island?

Oh, I think keeping Draco white ... and maybe all the Death Eaters white would be saying a lot. They're basically Nazi's. So that wouldn't change.

Draco is most definitely bisexual. He was so in love with Harry, feigning it as hate. Knowing everything about him, staring at him from across the room. When he was younger, it was easier to see it as hate. But then when he turned 16, he felt a pang of desire for the Potter boy and the self-loathing began.

Falls in love very easily, but usually with a woman. Not to say he's completely hetero, I think he would be bi-curious, but I think he wants a wife with a big family.

I actually think Fred would be polyamorous. The kind where the girlfriend is allowed another boyfriend, not like Sisterwives. No, no. Fred would be totally cool with having a wife who has a boyfriend, and they all live together. Fred's a little fruity as well. I think he's one of those people that 'don't like to put a label on things.'

Pansexual. Pansexual. Pansexual. Doesn't care if you're trans, he loves a person for who they are, what they believe in, rather than what their bits are. One of the reasons why he ran away from home. He hates tradition.

I think the Black family could be from Sicily, I know that's not necessarily POC, I think with their darker features, they would easily reign from there. And Sicilians are known for always distinguishing themselves from any other Mediterranean culture.

𝑹𝑬𝑴𝑼𝑺

He always thought of himself as straight. But that was until he met Sirius and he developed such a big crush on him. I think Remus would be Biromantic towards women but Bisexual towards men.

WHY THE HELL DID ROWLING CALL AN ASIAN PERSON, "CHO CHANG," PUT THEM IN THE "SMARTEST HOUSE". It's racism. That's how I see it. She does this with many characters, and it's ridiculous.

Anyway, I have no problem with Asian representation. But what if Cho was Native American? (I know Rowling made that whole other school but it was really problematic so to me, it doesn't exist).

Or have Cho as Chinese (maybe give her a proper Chinese name), and we can have another main character...like Hermione, or Katie Bell as Native American. I just think it would be interesting to see an exchange student from another country as well.

Lesbian. Poly lesbian. All those boys she went out with in Hogwarts were actually just beards. And she was having a secret relationship with another girl in her year. However, the polyamory doesn't come out until she's in her 20s.

Polysexual; sexual or romantic attraction to people with varying genders. Polysexual orientations include bisexuality, pansexuality, omnisexuality, and queer, among many others. Basically, he can be attracted to anyone. But Fleur was the one who captured his heart fully and wholely.

Asexual; I know he isn't in the movies (WHY?!) but he spends all his time with Dragons, and I think that will always be his main love and passion.

a much too whiny rant about fic icks

I die a little every time pup, cub or Prongslet comes up in a wolfstar raising Harry (together or separately) fic. especially cub - it makes literally no sense????? are you sure it's Remus John Lupin I'm reading about??? it's his evil doppelganger, I'm telling you. I'm not even sure I could stomach that word ironically.

Prongslet is fine in moderation, I guess, but only as an inside joke, only coming from Sirius and only when Harry's a smol bean. but when it's Prisoner of Azkaban compliant I wanna claw my eyes out.

it's even worse when those terms are used not just in dialogue but in Remus or Sirius' internal monologue as if pup and cub are Harry's freaking pronouns or something. my cub, my pup, cub did this, pup did that... just call him boy or kid or his name for god's sake. I once saw sprog pop up and was delighted cuz at least it's actually british slang.

and don't get me started on Hadrian(us) James Orion Potter-Black (which is just... why the fuck would James give his son the name of his best mate's horrible father AND the last name of his horrible family?? and why would Lily agree to that?) who's simultaneously Lord Potter, Black, Peverell and Slytherin (and, sure, I have a visceral reaction to aristocracy wank in general but even ignoring that - the last 3 literally make no sense since "Lord Black" is Sirius until his death; and both Peverell and Slytherin lines bled into other families ages ago. so being a Potter automatically means you're descended from Peverells as well as being a Gaunt - from Slytherin. and the last of those is Tom Riddle Jr. but that wouldn't make any Potters "Lord Peverell"s or any Gaunts/Riddle "Lord Slytherin"s. those last names are dead. smh).

but, uh, this tangent technically has nothing to do with my initial complaints, it's just that at some point I started thinking of this naming stuff in tandem with nonsensical nicknames as they began appearing in fics together. which is a double homicide, truly.

and look, I definitely understand the desire to make Harry's original name something else cuz it fits nicely with POC Potters headcanon and Dursleys being racist dicks about it, but... Hadrian? I mean, it's not really a big deal when the fic mentions it being his full name but both narration and characters still refer to him as Harry for short - that makes total sense. however when after the name reveal Hadrian replaces Harry completely, it feels super weird and uncanny, making it hard to identify Harry's character in the story altogether.

although I guess you should all knock me off my high horse for being the biggest hypocrite ever, cuz I myself have a headcanon for Harry's name, even if it's less elaborate than Hadrian. also less Roman? that's another thing I don't get - if you want to create a better connection between Harry and his roots, why choose a name of a Roman emperor for a desi kid? since he's usually explicitly desi in all the Hadrian fics. so it's not that I have a problem with renaming him, per se, I just don't understand the choice of Hadrian.

for example, I recently read a fic where he was Pakistani and his name was originally Hami, which is a very nice idea, actually, and makes total sense for such headcanon. mine is Hari btw (हरि in Sanskrit), since I headcanon Potters as Indian, but I didn't come up with that name myself - just saw it somewhere a couple years ago and fell in love. I think it's actually a pretty popular hc now? anyway, it's closer to Harry than any other name I've seen and has so many beautiful meanings that resonate with what I think James and Lily felt towards their son. so yeah, I'm one to talk, boo me.

now, I probably should shut up since this rant has been entirely too negative already, but while I'm on the topic of icky names/nicknames I should circle back to wolfstar cuz gods know I'll never be brave enough to talk about this particular pet peeve in its own post.

Siri, Remu and Remy make my blood boil. Siri could be kinda cute when it's a silly childhood nickname from Regulus, but if any marauder or Lily calls Sirius that - immediate death. Si and Re are a teensy bit better in moderation and if used ironically, but still stab me in the chest. a couple times for good measure. the only somewhat acceptable short form of any of their two names for me is Rem, albeit with a stretch and only because it's an actual version of the name Remus in Catalan and Russian. I know I'm being way too dramatic about this (just like with all of my previous points) but I just don't understand the need to shorten their names. at all. they're only 3 and 2 syllables long and so mystical on their own that any shortening just makes them simultaneously more nonsensical and less remarkable.

both characters literally have established quirky nicknames in canon that you can play with and even shorten to Pads and Moons if you want. Sirius is not a digital assistant and Remus is not the main character from Ratatouille. stop this madness.

plus James is right there. his name has a ridiculous amount of diminutives - Jamie, Jimmy, Jim, Jam, Jem, Jay and even Jimbo if you're into that. why strip Remus and Sirius' magical names of their charm if you can have fun with common names? but I digress.

at the end of the day, my pet peeves are mine only and I should live with them in fragile peace. this post is a personal rant first and foremost and if you disagree, I'm genuinely happy that you enjoy the things I can't. fandom is a playground and we can all find some fun in different corners. I'd also like to point out that I'm not trying to take a jab at fic writers who use any of the aforementioned terms, names or diminutives. I'm only one person, so if I stop reading your work because of my petty biases, it's only my loss and not your problem. hundreds of other fans will enjoy it instead. so keep doing what you love and writing those characters however you want, it's your right!

so yeah, writers and readers - don't take it personally and have your fun! don't listen to me being mean! I'm just making my fandom experience way too convoluted for my own good.

and the sound? fcking "bomb them". cause you know, using atj as fancast is that much terrible

james potter is canonically white. white. IT'S CANON. so yes, you can use whoever you want as fancast, including atj, cause you don't whitewash him. he is white in books and movies.

yeah, we know that jkr and hp movies creators are problematic. we get it. and we do respect cannonically poc people (pls don't fancast zoe kravitz as dorcas if you still do, learn, do better). and I never saw people making problem out of poc james (and definitely not with other characters), but as soon as edit includes aaron or else, you freak out, cause they white? as if fancasting white dude (who even share similarities with daniel, which is why he was chosen by so many people as james) as canonically white person is a crime

(and I say "we", I guess probably there are people out there showing their racism or making skinny peter or else, but most of the people really understand freedom in fancasting in every - respectful - way)

never heard of respecting others' opinions I guess which is sad, atj james potter fans were truly nice in comments

what I'm saying - james is canonically white. you can use michael, reiky, ali, milo, omar, shahid, kedar or - YES - aaron as fancast. nothing is wrong with any of those and others if you have them. I love seeing edit with michael or reiky as james even though for me it will forever be aaron. and I see many positive comments under those videos, just like under atj james. but when I see negative comments about james fancast it's always atj, either bc he's white (again why??) or bc he's too old (as if people don't use his teenage-early 20ish photos/videos)

I do agree with wanting to get rid off zoe and dane from fancasts out of respect for canonically dark skinned dorcas and plus sized peter. but white james is okay. if you prefer him as desi (which I know is popular) it's okay. if you fancanon him as black it's okay. any other ethnicity - it's okay. just do it with respect for others' fancast. and if you cast poc james and saw hurtful comments about it (ESPECIALLY if that touch you personally) I'm really really sorry.

and if you think atj is nothing like james potter

A comprehensive reason as to why I, as a teenage girl, think the marauders fandom is heaven on earth. (+ a few faults)

In simple terms, its a pit of representation. The characters, even the ones mentioned more than just a name drop, have very little known information about them. Like yes, we know remus lupin marries tonks and we know james marries lily, but besides that? They were teenagers at hogwarts, its fun to play around with the dynamics of them.

And its also a passion project. The marauders is by no means an actual thing. Sure, theyre side characters in hp. But the marauders fandom is created solely on headcanons and fanon info. Its almost like if i were to pull finnick and annie from thg and develop them with such depth that it contextualises things that couldve been explained better in the actual books.

And not only that, but it shows creativity. Its like weve all taken these characters, aged them down to make them more relatable, and projected our own teenage experiences onto them in a way that jk could never as she wrote them as an adult and likely has never experienced the struggles of the lgbtq teens nowadays

The lgbtq is also a good point to bring up. Nowhere anywhere else on the internet will you find a fandom so full of lgbtq characters solely bc 'it doesnt sell'. The marauders is a prime example of how marketing realistic teenagers to teenagers is not unprofitable.

Mental health is also a big thing that needs to be explored more in media. And not as the main plot, but as something that just exists. Its done well in the marauders fandom.

Usually when watching a show or reading a book, you think these characters arent that realistic. In their world, sure. But its hard to relate to characters who link nothing to you. The marauders, though wizards, are teenagers in school. They are relatable.

Also the ability to create everything out of nothing. I adore pandora rosier and regulus black but in canon they are never even shown in the movies besides reg.

The poc inclusivity, the non skinny inclusivity, etc etc.

However! There are issues.

The marauders fandom is primarily girls, yet this fandom is an excellent example of the preference that male characters get. Like, i love regulus. But pray tell why jegulus gets more hype than pretty much any wlw ships combined? And why do i see so much of lily being a surrogate or her dying and james and reg getting harry? If youre gonna cut lily out of james life for him to be w reg, atleast find another way for them to have a kid. Lily is more than her uterus and a plot device for a kid.

And theres also sm arguments over headcanons. Like, if i were to say i hc james potter as straight, i would get attacked in todays fandom. It just gets a bit strange sometimes when people disregard canon at all. I get the seperation of canon from fanon is definitely inevitable in this fandom, but i dislike when people push their hcs as canon when its literally contradicted by canon.

I love the marauders fandom i do, and i love the way the characters are developed enough to be interesting to everyone, and not just babied down enough to be advertised to kids. Theres so much you can do when you dont have to worry about pr.

hi! so u asked for unpopular opinions about marauders, so here i am, ready to deliever them

james potter was bully. he bullied not only snape but other people, he sexually assaulted snape. "oh, but that's because snape is a nazi!" yes, he is. i am not defending snape, he is an awful person. but james started bullying him, making fun of him, calling him names and stuff, when they were ELEVEN. he literally started making fun of him in the train. they haven't even talked to each other yet. he just overheard some boy in the train telling his friend that he would like to go slytherin and automatically decided to bully this boy. and that is something unforgivable and i hate that some people in this fandom try to portray snape as pure evil, because HE IS A MORALLY GRAY CHARACTER. he did a lot of awful things, he also did some good things, he also is a victim of abuse, of bullying and of sexual assault. and probably there is someone who's going to come to me and tell me that he was never sexually assaulted. well, james potter held him down, and took of his clothes against his will, including underwear, in front of a lot of people. basically he exposed snape's genitals against snape's will. he also tried to choke snape with soap bubbles, he heavily bullied him. his age is not an excuse, being 15 is not an excuse. if it was all really about snape being a nazi then that would be james's explanation for lily when she asked what his problem with snape was. if it was really about how much james hated purebloods supremacists, then he wouldn't focus on snape, but on mulciber and avery and wilkes and people like this. but instead he chose snape, because snape was an easy victim. and because of that: fuck james potter, i never really started to like him, i can only tolerate him in certain fanfiction

i couldn't care less about jegulus. i've read some awesome fanfictions, i've seen a lot of awesome art, but the ship on it's own doesn't really speak to me. it's a worse version of drarry, honestly, and i never was a big fan of drarry. i get with people like it but i'm just really tired of the fact that you cannot find anything about marauders without jegulus

this fandom has a lot of really toxic parts, especially when people talk about liking some rarepairs, there are so many people who attack them and threathen them and stuff. someone shipping james with barty is not a reason to send them death threaths.

also the fact that someone doesn't headcanon james as poc does not make them racist. someone not shipping a lesbian ship doesn't makes them a bad person and a person that hates lesbians. someone. a lot of people in this fandom just get really mad at people for no reason and it really should stop.

i don't really have any opinions on dorlene. i know that it's popular and stuff but i just don't get the hype. i prefer dorlily lilylene marylily and marylene and dormary and all other combinations between these girls, but dorlene... it just doesn't stand out to me that much.

this fandom really often portrays walburga as the abuser and orion as just... well, just being there and not really caring, or sometimes people just make him a good father, and honestly? it's the 70s. walburga is a woman. orion he is a man. you really think that she is the one in control here? i'm not saying that she is innocent, because she obviously isn't, but he isn't either and it annoys me that it's always "walburga's a+ parenting" and it's always her being abusive, and her being mad, and her being an awful person, and orion, oooh, poor babygirl, he wants to protect his kids from her but she is the one controling everyone in this house because she is in a position of power as a WOMAN IN 70S. nothing against walburga being portrayed as abusive, because she was abusive, but don't make orion innocent

First of all James Potter is my favourite character ever. He is my sweetheart and I kin him. So yeah, for me he is the perfect imperfection. I agree his made some mistakes, but I don’t view him the way you do. I’ve been there in high school, humiliating people that bully other innocent people or even my friends. I’m not proud of it, I’m just saying I know where he comes from. It’s not easy to stop a bully and I felt like putting them down was the only way to protect others, and I think James thought the exact same thing. Again I’m not proud and I don’t know if I’ll do it again.

On that same note. I hate Snape. I think nothing justify bullying an 11 year old. And he wanted to be a death eater. So I always hate him, in fanon and canon.

2. I loooove Jegulus, it’s my fav ship and I would only read something if it has Jegulus. lol. Total opposites. Mmm i think it’s a great love story and i never get tired of reading it. I’ve honestly never been a fan of Drarry but I don’t mind people shipping them.

3. I know! We should all stop that and just spread love and some legs, lol, jk. But seriously guys, everyone has the right to a different opinion and if you don’t like it, just look the other way .

thoughts I've had while re reading poa as a marauders fan, part one (chapters 1 - 4)

(id just like to point out this is my first time reading the books since middle school and first time I've read the books since I became a marauders fan in 2020)

chapter 1

- ok so ye the Weasleys are really poor, but if they're "extremely poor" you'd figure they'd use their money for something other than a vacation

-I forgot sweet little hedwig existed djdjdjdkdjd

-why did I start to dislike hermione so much again??? maybe it's just movie hermione I hate and I can't remember the differences between the two

chapter 2

-why are most of the antagonistic characters portrayed as fat and why is the fact that dudley is obese brought up so many fucking times like that seems pretty fat phobic of you Rowling

- when actually reading and thinking about the Harry potter books and movies I imagine the actor that played sirius and not the fanart marauders sirius I'm more used to, and apparently his hair is depicted as elbow length in the books not shoulder length WE WERE ROBBED. could have had long haired sirius with a bun in ootp

- also I swear marauders Era Sirius and golden trio era Sirius (so canon and fanon sirius) are two completely different people in my mind

- also forgot "muggle" news talked about sirius

-just finished the chapter and seriously he is so sassy (guess that's what you get when you're Sirius and marlenes godson, and James and Lily's actual son)

- also I really fucking hate how much mental abuse is glazed over here like????

- it happens every summer and he's forced to return to his abusers like wtf

chapter 4

- ah Florean Fortescue the one genuinely nice adult in these books (isn't he like Alice's dad or something?) I just remembered her last name is actually more or less a headcanon uhhh that's fun

- the Irish quidditch team are actually mentioned along with the quidditch world cup even Harry's checkin out the firebolt

- coincidence that Dean and Seamus are mentioned at the same time? I think not

- seriously jkr why do you keep giving kids abusive gaurdians and acting like it's nothing (talking about Neville and his grandmother)

- "...Ron looking incredibly freckly, Hermione very brown..." (pg 55 in my book). when first reading this part years ago I registered it as Hermione was black/poc and not that she was just tan from the sun lmao

- I swear crookshanks was James' old cat and that's why he hated peter

- also Percy wow this why you don't befriend stray rats man

- the things this rat has seen go on in Percy's and Oliver's dorm room....

- still probably not as bad sharing a dorm with Remus and Sirius tho

- I love the twins sense of humor

- but guys stop messing with my precious baby Percy he's just- an autistic overachiever doing his best guys

- ..."he lost everything..." Yes Sirius did in fact lose almost everything Arthur but not bc what you think happened dude

- literally there's no fucking way McGonagall thought Sirius did it- literally fucking refuse to believe that she did

Jegulus - an Unserious Critical Analysis

My two cents on the Jegulus ship. Dead dove, do not eat, shippers.

In my opinion, Jegulus (the James Potter/Regulus Black ship) is the culmination of about two decades of the general fandom practice of ignoring all other characters in favor of shipping two white men. This isn't a new phenomenon, we've seen it in every fandom since the beginning of time (time started when fanfiction was invented, right?).

On its own, there's nothing wrong with crackshipping. It's someone looking at two characters that don't interact or barely interact in canon and thinking, "Hey, wouldn't it be crazy if they smooched?" And that's not inherently (sorry in advance for using this word) problematic. It's just for fun!

But then a trend starts. You start to notice that all these ships are between men, and almost always cishet white men. And again, not inherently an issue, but it's weird that that's the overwhelming majority of crackships and even regular ships, right? Anyone who has taken a look at the AO3 yearly statistics knows what I mean. Most ships in most fandoms are between two white men who are canonically cishet. Less ships are m/f, fewer are f/f, and most of the POC in these ships are headcanoned as such or paired with a white person.

So: Jegulus. What is this shit ship? We don't know all that much about the 1970s era of Hogwarts aside from a handful of characters and the fact that four of them were best friends. It's an era of the canon that is primed as a playground for headcanons, fanfiction, and fanart. It's been a popular era to speculate and write about since the third book came out. James Potter is the father of Harry Potter (duh, no one that's read this far is unaware of that). Regulus Black is his... best friend's little bigoted brother. They never interact canonically.

In canon, James is in love with Lily Evans. It's kind of the main thing we know about his character. His job is just... loving Lily Evans. And their relationship is, arguably, the single most important romantic relationship in the entire series. Without them, we wouldn't have a series. There would be no story. Their love quite literally saves the world that they inhabit.

And no, that doesn't mean that nobody is ever allowed to ship either of them with anyone else, ever. But... Regulus? Really? It seems to stem 50% from the "best friend's brother/brother's best friend" romance trope and the fact that Timothee Chalamet has become a popular fancast for Regulus.

And what do we know, canonically, about Regulus? Next to nothing. The main things we know are that he's Sirius's younger brother, he hates Muggleborns, and he sacrificed his life to steal one of Voldemort's Horcruxes. And while him being Sirius's younger brother is an interesting tidbit for fanfiction purposes and sacrificing his life is noble, it's kind of hard to overlook the fact that Regulus Black was a fucking Death Eater. But I guess if you can overlook that little factoid, it's easy enough to ignore the Muggleborn character James's whole character is based around and ship him with Timothee Chalamet a Death Eater instead of her!

After decades of fandom, we have finally found what I believe is the most egregious example of the "ignoring a woman in favor of shipping two men" trend. In a move that is both darkly hilarious and objectively cringe, the new young wave of Marauders fans have decided that the best possible ship for Harry Potter's father is a man who hated the fact that Harry Potter's mother existed. A character he has no interactions with, a character he only knows by proxy of being his best friend's brother, a character that is part of a group that is an allegory for Nazis, a character we know nothing about besides the fact that he was a Death Eater who drew the line at Horcruxes. Everyone give yourselves a pat on the back, it doesn't get better than this.

In conclusion, would this be the worst thing on its own if it wasn't part of a long and storied history of fandom spaces ignoring women just to write smut for two random men? Not really. But if Regulus can draw the line at splitting a soul into seven bits and hiding them in historical relics all over Britain, I think I can draw my line at erasing Lily Evans from the narrative of James Potter's life.

I have............ opinions on the new Harry Potter show, specifically the diversifying of the cast

Maybe this is me being overprotective as a poc myself but I really don't want to see white hp character become poc. Mainly because their whiteness is such an integral part of their characterisation.

I don't want to see a Black Hermione because her performative activism is very white savior. She canonically disregards the people she is protesting for and she just is privileged and acts like it. Like in 'Falcon and the Winter Soldier' Sam is a lot more careful around the law than Bucky, because well Black people tend to face harsher sentences. Hermione is canonically reckless now it would be different if this was just a flaw she grew out of but no this is a part of her personality. And one time commenting on how she'd rather be killed then expelled does not change the statement. Also Hermione has never canonically discrimination, besides some cheap remarks, she has not faced any real discrimination I mean she is regarded as one of the brightest witch of her time and heck she was lended the f*cking Time Turner for classes.

Also another discussion I have seen on the internet is a Arabic Harry and honestly I have no problems with he is great I love him. My problem is with his parents Lily is a green-eyed ginger she is undoubtedly white which leaves James f*cking Potter. Let me start this of by saying I hate James, his entire character is just of a rich, privileged, white boy who got away with all the harm he did, I barely even like Snape but James Potter just disgusts me. He canonically just approached another student, disarmed him and humiliated them in front of a mob by stripping him. He is nothing more then a bully. His privilege is what kept him safe, he should have been suspended but no if you as administrator are going to protect one student over the, protect the privileged perpetrator

the sun sits heavy in the sky, and leaves red-hot kisses on everyones skin. her fickle affection however, is yet to dampen the mood of the day. a day, like the many you have cherished over the years. the potter manor was alive. it always was this time of the year. never quiet, filled always with muffled laughter and sticky footsteps. you’re grateful that euphemia and fleamont are so generous, as to open their hearts and home to you all. if not for them, you would not have these memories, the fruitful gifts of summer break.

in the west the heat is palpable, it sticks to your skin: slick and heavy. but when you cannot beat the heat, you bask in it. so there you were, hiding behind ‘mia’s coveted rose bushes. cheeks red, and breath shallow with vigour. none of you knew what you were playing anymore. rules were never really considered, so what initially started off as hide and seek, became something else entirely. something akin to tag, or sardines? no one knew, nor cared. it was fun, and that’s all that mattered to everyone except james, who was set on winning a nonexistent game with no rules. somewhere, someone had left a cassette tape playing. cicadas chirped. leaves rustled. yet, it wasn’t enough to mask the heavy footsteps of whoever was making their way to you.

“move your arse over, y/n.” sirius jeered, smiling at you cheekily.

“shut up you twat!” you whispered, backhanding his chest.

he did nothing, smirking lazily. his hair shone in the few rays of sunshine that filtered through the trees. covered in a thin sheen of sweat.

you turned to peek through the rose bush, and your eyes were met with an empty yard. it was too quiet—but knowing james was it, made you realise he was going all in. he’d call it something stupid, like ‘super steath mode’. he was probably behind you, and with that thought, you voiced your plans.

“lets move,” you spoke lowly, “maybe we can find remy.”

sirius nodded, a glint in his eye. you pointed to another shrub, but it was quite far from you. he shrugged, and the two of you started moving. you didn’t make it far. a large body tackling you to the ground.

“james, i found them!”

you gasped, “remus, you traitor!” struggling under his weight. “you’re smothering me!”

sirius, for some god forsaken reason, decided to create a dog pile, jumping on top of remus. the weight doubled and you groaned. shoving them slightly off you, the three of you ended up tangled with each other.

“good job remy! i knew this would be a worthy alliance.” james spoke grandly. he stood tall, hands on his hips. much like the rest of you, he was flushed and sweaty. curls sticking to his forehead and the nape of his neck. smile wide as ever.

he too, joined you all on the grass, laying down haphazardly in between the tangled mess of limbs.

“alliance?” you huffed, “i can’t believe you remus, we risked ourselves to find you.” grumbling under your breath.

remus turned on his side, smirking slightly. “he made me an offer i couldn’t refuse. i am, after all, a worthy businessman.” he sounded silly, clearly taking the piss.

you flicked his face. he reached into his pockets, which you now saw were full of candy. he passed them around, and the four of you ate in silence. bodies slack.

euphemia entered the yard some time later, holding a tray of lemonades. a small elf toddling after her, dressed in a small frock and sandals. she carried a small plate of fruit.

with the platters on the small outdoor table, euphemia called for you four. when she was met with silence, she turned to the little elf, “mellie, why don’t you go back inside, i’ll look for them.”

around the corner, not far from her roses, she found you all. a tangled mess, noses burnt, and dead asleep. she smiled and stopped for a moment. her silver hair glowed under the sun. with a short wave of her wand, the sprinklers erupted.

Severus and Remus were standing outside of the room on either side of the door, listening in to see if they could hear anything. They couldn't, which made them more concerned, they both thought that they would hear crying or pacing or even just shuffling around, but they heard nothing. Y/N was in the room, by herself, on the bed just staring at the wall, she was trying to cry but she couldn’t. She tried thinking about things that made her sad like her brother, but still, not a single tear to be shed. She was starting to think that something was wrong with her, that something was seriously wrong with her.

When Harry walked past the room, he was curious as to why the two men were standing outside, not moving and not talking, just standing. “What’s going on? Is Aunt Y/N okay?” the boy asked.

“She wants to be left alone at the moment, we’re just standing here to make sure she’s okay,” Remus replied, trying to ease the boy’s concern. Instead of answering, Harry opened the door and walked into the room, closing the door behind him. He saw his aunt on the bed, just blankly staring at the wall, the smell of cigarettes looming behind in the room despite the open window. The boy decided not to talk and to join his aunt on the bed, climbing in beside her.

“It’s okay that I lay with you, right?” Harry asked the woman.

“Yeah,” She replied quietly, opening her arms for her nephew to fall into. Harry did just that, laying in his aunt’s arms, his head resting on her shoulder as they laid there quietly.

“Are you okay? I know this summer has been a lot and you’re always making sure that I’m okay but I never see if you are,” He asked her, rambling slightly which made her chuckle lightly.

“I’ll be okay, my love. Maybe not now, but I will be,” She told him, turning her head to plant a gentle kiss on his forehead.

“Can you tell me more stories about your time at Hogwarts with dad?”

“Of course I can, have I ever told you about the time Sirius asked me out?”

“What? No, tell me!”

It was well into her fourth year, everything was going exceptionally well. She had the highest marks in her year, she had her friends and her brother and she had quidditch. Now she wasn’t as good at quidditch as her brother but she still excelled at the sport. She had a bet with Sirius, if she had scored over 60 points during their game against Slytherin, he had to chop his hair but if Sirius had scored over 60 points, she had to go on a date with him. This was right before Sirius realized that he had a massive crush on Remus but was still playing into the straight thing.

As the game went on, the two of them were scoring points left and right, however, Sirius was 20 points ahead of her and James was zooming after the snitch. As Y/N went for the quaffle, that was when James decided it was the perfect time to catch the snitch and win the game for Gryffindor. Sirius had a big smile on his face as he flew over to her, shooting a wink her way.

“Looks like I won, dove. Guess we get to go on a date then, huh?” Sirius teased.

“Just wait until Jamie hears about this one, he’s gonna kill you,” She sing-songed the end of her statement before landing her broom and walking off of the pitch.

Later that night in the common room, the party had finally died down, most of the students going to bed, the marauders and a few others lingering around. Everyone was a few drinks deep other than the two Potters, James was usually the one who drank the most but he decided to stay sober with his sister for once.

“Hey, Prongsy! Guess who has a date with Dove?” Sirius asked loudly, his words slightly slurring together.

“Oh, Dove has a date? Who is this unfortunate bloke?” James teased his sister, who covered her face with her hands.

“It’s me! Haha! I’m going on a date with Dove!” Sirius laughed drunkenly.

“What?”

“We had a bet, if I scored more than 60 points, he had to chop his hair but if he scored over 60 points, I had to go on a date with him. And he ended up scoring 60 and I scored only 40. Trust me, I don’t want to go,” Y/N explained to her brother.

“Oh come on Y/N, you totally want to go! All the girls want me!”

“Correction, some girls want you and I am not one of them. I’d rather go on a date with Lucius, than go on a date with you.”

“Yikes, that’s unfortunate for you mate,” Remus chimed in with a chuckle.

“You’d go on a date with Snivellus?” Sirius and James asked in unison.

“Okay, one, that was freaky, two, his name is Severus and three, he’s a nice guy so yes, I’d go on a date with him. You guys are just a bunch of assholes to him,” She defended the Slytherin boy.

“You’ve got a crush! Y/N Potter has a crush on Severus Snape!” Sirius shouted.

“Shut up you buffoon! I do not have a crush on Severus,” Her face was hot and she was avoiding eye contact, that was her tell.

“You’re such a liar! Snivelly of all people! Y/N!”

She groaned loudly and hid her face in her knees as she went through relentless teasing from her friends and her brother.

“So you’ve had a crush on Uncle Sev since your fourth year? And you guys only just got together?” Harry asked his aunt.

“Well you know how he is, it’s hard to get a read on his emotions. Herminone says that Ron has the emotional range of a teaspoon? Has she met your uncle?” Y/N let out a giggle at her teasing. Harry grinned widely at the sound which made her tilt her head in confusion, “What?”

“I haven’t heard you laugh all summer. It was nice to hear,” He said, bringing a tear to her eye. Harry was quick to wipe the tear from under her eye before it made its way down her cheek.

“I’m sorry I haven’t been as present lately. I haven’t really been sleeping because I want to keep you safe. I can’t lose you, Harry, you’re my boy. I don’t think I’d be able to handle losing you,” She admitted to her nephew.

“You won’t lose me. I have so many people around me protecting me from Voldemort and keeping me safe. You don’t have to do this alone, Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore will help keep me safe at Hogwarts. Here there are so many more that will keep me safe, so you can take a break. Let someone else keep me safe for once and you relax and rest. We’re all worried about you.”

It was then that the floodgates opened, endless tears streaming down her cheeks as she tried to calm herself down but nothing worked. Harry knew to just let her cry it out, hugging his aunt tight and letting some of his own tears fall. As she cried, the weight on her chest lessened, it felt like she could breathe for the first time since the summer began. She clung to her nephew, keeping him close, his presence alone helping her feel better. Just as she thought she was about to hit rock bottom, her nephew was the one that was helping her back up. They two both knew that it would take a while but she’d get back to where she was eventually. She’d be back to the bubbly and happy-go-lucky person she once was with a little bit of time, some patience and a lot of love and support from her family.

Marauder’s pt. 3

James

Uuuu my sunshine boy. There’s something so endearing and lovable about James that makes me feel like I actually know him. He feels so intimate. So close home.

First, off want to say that James Potter was a poc, no questions asked, please. So there’s no better way to start this playlist than with Play that Funky Music. Like, c’mon, you cannot tell me this doesn’t encapsulate the cheesy, mischievous, energetic, and cocky personality that James is.

We have a lot of energetic music in here because James was an ADHD kid and you cannot convince me otherwise. He was the kid that was always bouncing his legs in class and using his wand as drumsticks (thank Remus for that for showing him a video of Roger Taylor)

Out of all the Marauders, James was the one that was born knowing how to love. I believe that is why he left this earth so quickly because what for others takes years and years to learn, James was born with it, and he made it look so effortlessly easy; there was no other person as committed as James. The second he knew someone needed help, there was James, with a cuppa. Someone feeling down on exam season, there he was with a chocolate frog and a gentle smile.

Some people may have thought James was a lunatic, that it was just a show. Because there was no way in hell that someone could be that gentle and kind to others. And that is true, and see here is the thing. Where James was noble, loyal, gentle and kind to others, he often forgot that he was “other” too. He was kind and patient with everyone, except for him. James, gave so much love and left little room for himself. He could build an entire shelter for other people, a home, a comfort zone but when he needed warm, when he needed comfort, he rejected himself he was left in the cold of his own indifference. Prongs is a people-first kinda person.

Even until his last minutes on earth, he made a selfless decision to sacrifice himself. He didn’t even hesitate, didn’t even stop to think about what he wanted, about his own fears. My sunshine boy was so careless with his own life if it meant saving others.

And, I’m already crying writing this, omg. We get to the Archer by Taylor Swift and to be honest, it just goes downhill from there, like it’s sad and sadder by the minute, and we get to Who wants to live forever” by Queen, and this lyric just ended me.
