haikyuu boys with an s/o who's really scared of horror movies
pairings: iwaizumi x reader, oikawa x reader, tsukishima x reader, bokuto x reader
a/n: lol this is me i actually cannot with horror like at all
warnings: post-timeskip in iwaizumi's
Tumblr media
iwaizumi hajime
iwaizumi's pretty good with horror movies
occasionally, he'll be a little caught off-guard with a sudden jumpscare, but he's pretty much fine otherwise
now YOU..
you are not ok.
you are screaming, hiding, and tearing up
he honestly doesn't really understand what's so scary about them
since i hc iwaizumi to be a realist, he'd be like
it's a movie. it was filmed. those are actors. it's so obvious none of that stuff could ever happen in real life
still, he understands that you're really scared and tries his best to comfort you
time to put those beefy athletic trainer arms to work
he lets you cling onto them for the whole movie and lets you use then as a stress ball
iwaizumi's a traditional, old school, cheesy hopeless romantic. convince me otherwise.
therefore, his method of comfort usually comes in the form of soothing words and back rubs in his arms
its actually quite nice. he lets you scream into his titties (HE HAS TITTIES AND THEYRE MORE ROCK SOLID THAN REGINA GEORGE'S MOM'S. CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.)
when you're truly scared scared (like heart pounding, sobs racking ur body, you're def gonna get rlly bad nightmares type of scared scared)
he will probs turn it off bc he thinks that no movie ending is worth this much terror
he cares about you a lot, after all. he thinks its slightly amusing when you're screaming your head off at the obviously fake blood, but he would never want you to be fearful for real
rubs your back and whispers soothing words into your ear
"its ok" "i'm right here" "don't worry, i'd protect you if they ever came" type of stuff
after you've calmed down a bit, he'll try to make you laugh
jokes, tickles, anything, really!
he hates seeing you scared. he just wants you to be happy
10/10. marry me sir.
oikawa tooru
lol
hate to break it to you but
tooru is equally as scared of horror movies
you guys have to cuddle up in blanket burritos together and scream at every jumpscare
honestly you both only make it through the movie through sheer willpower
if you're crying, he'll try to comfort you, but tbh he's pretty damn scared himself
however, once the movie is over, he's totally fine
movie forgotten. out of memories. what movie should you guys watch next?
but YOU
you're still crying
you're still really shaken up
you're def gonna have nightmares
he takes that opportunity to be the manly man he is and swoops you up bridal style
he's very charming. he looks at you in the most dazzling, heart-melting way
lol boy u were just crying too stfu
he cuddles you close, and just like iwa, whispers sweet words into your ear
however, unlike iwa, they're much more...childish? playful? how to describe them..
"it'll be ok. your big, strong, boyfriend will protect anything that tries to hurt his princess" "*dramatic gasp* YOU DON'T THINK I'M CAPABLE OF FIGHTING IT OFF BY MYSELF? HOW COULD YOU UNDERESTIMATE ME LIKE THIS? THIS.. THIS IS BETRAYAL" "they don't even look that strong. im sure i could hit a volleyball at one and it would rip into two!"
stuff like that
he would make sure to cuddle you extra close that night
overall, he's pretty fun and is good at making everything seem less serious. 8.5/10!
tsukishima kei
honestly, he's as affected by horror movies at the average guy
he doesn't find them as terrifying as oikawa, but he's definitely not as unaffected as iwaizumi
but you'd never know that
why?
he just hides his emotions really, really well
also he just sometimes focuses on the wall behind the tv and drowns out the voices
he just sits through them and bears them, basically
now, why? why in the world would he do this when he doesn't even enjoy it?
to make fun of you, duh. shouldn't that have been obvious?
when you leap 30ft out of your seat into the air, he laughs at you
he'll even add onto your fear by like grazing your opposite shoulder when you aren't looking and pretending he didn't do it
hes a brat
but honestly, he partially enjoys it when you spring onto him at the jump scares, no matter how much he denies it
as we all know, the boys a lil shy about asking for affection
with horror movies, he gets your affection without even asking for it! yay!
but once the movies over, if you're really shaken up, he'll use his giant beanpole arms and spoon you until you fall asleep
but then he'll be an ass about it the following week
pokes, grabs, jabs you and will say,
"huh? it wasn't me. maybe it was the (wtv villain or ghost or spirit or wtv from the movie)!"
2/10. makes fun of you and makes the movie even scarier tbh. the 2 points r only bc of the comfort he gives after its over.
bokuto koutaro
like most things in life, bokuto goes between two extremes, and never crosses into the middle
he's either having super insane cut shots that go BOOM
OR he's doing awful and is in his emo mode
same thing with this
he either isn't affected by it at all and just laughs
or he screams when the character breathes a lil too heavily
now, if he thinks the movie's not scary at all, he's pretty good to watch with if you're super scared
during the scary parts, he lets you cling onto his beefy arm while he just watches the movie in amusement
like there's a really scary scene where there's a huge jumpscare into the most climatic scene in the movie and you're burying your face into his arm but in the background you just hear:
"HAHAHAHAHA! Y/N Y/N! YOU GOTTA SEE THIS! HE'S...HE'S GETTING CHASED BY THIS GREY LITTLE CHILD! HAHAHAHA ITHIHIHIT'S EYES LOOK LIKE TAPIOCAAHAHAAHA"
"oh the grey little child is smiling! it's kinda cute! why is the main character guy sweating? he looks like me right after a long game"
"why'd the grey little child pull a purple thing out of his throat? what's that? i wonder what it tastes like though..i think it would be a thick gummy texture, but maybe a little gooey on the inside. definitely grape-flavored. the really sweet artificial good one. oh.. now i want a gummy!"
yeah
he definitely makes it less scary because he makes all the scary stuff seem really stupid
honestly pretty nice. you might not get as many nightmares because of him
now
when he's terrified, he's more terrified than you
*main character sneezes* "AHHHHHHH"
think oikawa x 800
mhm
honestly, you kind of have to take the comfort role even though you're deathly afraid of horror movies
"kou, he's just walking. its ok."
honestly he makes it seem less scary like this too because it forces you to see why the movie isn't actually that scary because you have to find out the reasons to comfort him
8.7/10. a sweetie

εïз┊𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐒𝐄 — feat. bokuto koutarou, suna rintarou, oikawa tooru, miya osamu, kuroo tetsurou
synopsis. how haikyuu boys comfort you when you've had a bad day
— content warnings. none! just comfy stuff <3 — word count. 670
εïз┊author's note. here's this inspired by the awful birthday i had today!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
εïз┊b. koutarou
his excited grin turned into a concerned frown as you walked through the door with teary eyes. he mumbled your name, his furrowed brows and small voice crack showed how much it hurt him to see you this way. with daunting steps, he hugged you tight, pulling you into his chest while whispering little words of comfort into your ear. his callous hands rubbing circles into your back made you sink into him, huggin him back even tighter as he spoke. "hug me as tight as you need baby." he calmed you down, little by little until you told him what happened for you to be so, so upset.
εïз┊s. rintatou
he heard the front door shut forcefully as he laid on the couch, his phone in his hands. he paused, hearing your quiet footsteps coming towards him as he glanced up from his phone to see you with watery eyes and a scowl on your lips. he set his phone on his chest, slowly raising himself up so he leaned his back on the arm of the couch. he stretched out his arms, motioning for you to come over and without a second thought, you nuzzled into his chest and hugged him close. he smoothed back your hair as you sobbed into him, placing a delicate kiss on your head as his other hand snaked around your lower back. "just let it all out, don't hold anything back, okay baby?"
εïз┊o. tooru
it wasn't soon after you'd gotten home that he realized you weren't yourself. it didn't take him long at all to figure those kinds of things out. so, he approached you in the kitchen where you'd set down your things, opening his arms with those kind, understanding eyes, his lips curling into a sad smile. you let yourself fall into him, the tears finally streaming down your cheeks from the day of holding them in. you held his jacket for support as he swayed, humming a little tune as to calm your racing thoughts. "you're doing so amazing, angel, i'm so proud of you for getting through the day."
εïз┊m. osamu
he never thought of leaving your side as you sat on the couch, you head in your hands. he rubbed circles into your back, hoping to calm you down without knowing what caused your breakdown. you sobbed into your hands, fear of speaking and making yourself cry more. you felt him get up from the couch, his hand smoothing back your hair as he placed a kiss on your forehead. "ya don't have ta say anythin' darlin', but let me try ta cheer ya up, yeah?" he took your hands from your face, pulling you up from the couch slowly as his worried frown soon turned into a kind smile. he took your hand in his, leading you to the kitchen where he turned on some soft and relaxing music, showing you how he always made your favorite meal.
εïз┊k. tetsurou
he stared at your quivering lips, your teeth biting your bottom lip as you walked into your shared bedroom. he sat in bed, reading a book on chemistry as he'd done every night before bed for months. he sighed, giving you a sad smile before getting up from where he sat, holding your cheeks in his hands. his hands slid down to your own, slowly leading you to the bed where he pulled up the covers, letting you plop onto the bed as you stared up at him with doey eyes. before you knew it, he had helped you into your pajamas and gotten you ready for bed and getting back to his spot. he pulled the blankets over the two of you, wrapping his arms around you and lightly resting his cheek on your head, every so often placing a simple kiss upon your head. he hugged you tighter the more you cried, and he was willing to wait as long as you needed to be able to talk to him. "i'm here for you every step of the way, my love."

rating haikyū!! characters based on how much I'd like to date them
slowly starting to realize that I'm the problem. . .
hinata shōyō: 5/10
I'm like 5'3 which is SHORTER than hinata so ig it could serve as an ego boost for him
no but how would we ever reach anything on the top shelf 😭
although I guess he could just jump for it??
very high-energy all the time and I honestly don't think I'd be able to keep up with him
kageyama tobio: 8/10
jeez idk on this one
we'd either get along really well or he'd hate my guts
like hey, you're socially awkward, I'm socially anxious
he's too good at volleyball and it'd make me feel inferior
if he's not motivated to learn English idk how this is gonna work
running around in the snow and throwing snowballs at each other 🥺
tsukishima kei: 8/10
I feel like hanging mirrors would be a big problem
he's a whole foot taller than me
I like the low energy vibes and the appreciation for music though
like imagine walks together where we share playlists with each other??
hopefully his saltiness and intelligence can rub off on me
nishinoya yū: 4.5/10
he's shorter than me help 😭
the top shelf would never get used
a little too energetic for me
although I would LOVE to learn the Rolling Thunder
he's kind of a wanderer and I think I’d prefer stability especially later in life
probably would not work out
sugawara kōshi: 8/10
baking dates??
I feel like he'd be so sweet and attentive as a partner
a bit of a troll which I need in my life
hopefully he doesn't lecture me cause I'm a sensitive little sh--
oikawa tōru: 10/10
I'll let myself be self-indulgent here because I love him too much
I just want to hug him and tell him he's worked hard and he's done so well
I have trouble with words but I feel like with him they'd just flow so easily
vulnerability is beautiful and I'd be so honored if he could be himself around me
amusement park dates!! I feel like he’d pretend to be all cool but shriek so loud when we get to the top
kozume kenma: 9/10
we're both extra introverted so I feel like we could just hang out in his room while he plays games and I read and be perfectly content
writing love notes and leaving them for each other throughout the house 🥺
hear me out, escape room dates??
but also how would either of us be able to get along in society
we'd stay up until 5 am together 😭
on second thought maybe we're a little TOO similar for a romantic relationship. . .
kuroo tetsurō: 8/10
also almost too tall
can he tutor me in chemistry 😭
I know he likes dogs but I’m dragging him with me to cat cafes
ushijima wakatoshi: 7.5/10
also really tall
I'm lowkey scared of him
I feel like he'd be a really traditional and calm partner, both qualities that I appreciate
I think he's like formal but also private when it comes to dates
I just feel like I'd always have to take the initiative and honestly I get really lazy and shouldn't be trusted to plan anything so maybe we just wouldn't end up going on any dates lmao
probably wouldn't work out if I'm gonna be honest
akaashi keiji: 10/10
this guy is boyfriend material
he can memorize all 37 of my weaknesses
I don’t think I have to explain why this guy would be great as a partner
book store dates!!
bokuto kōtarō: 5/10
also too energetic for me
bokuto deserves someone patient and cheerful and I am neither
I'm pretty stoic and have an RBF so if he's in emo mode idk how I'd be able to cheer him up
but I think life would never be boring with him around
miya atsumu: 7.5/10
I like atsumu well enough but I'm honestly super neutral about dating him
like I feel like it could work but there's also people I’d click with more
idk there's really no thoughts in my brain when I think about him in a romantic way
miya osamu: 7/10
I'm a REALLY picky eater so I could never go on food dates or help him with his restaurant
although he IS a little calmer than his brother
also like atsumu, someone that I never thought about dating
suna rintarō: 8.5/10
I think he’s a good height (in between ‘the high shelf would never be used’ and ‘the mirror is problematic’)
he's a phone addict, I'm a phone addict, we'd get along splendidly
I feel like a relationship with him would be pretty chill and lowkey
I don't do well with fancy and formal so that's perfect
late-night stargazing 🥺
kita shinsuke: 7/10
dude I'd be lowkey scared of him
he's just so productive?? and structured in his daily life
like I wish I was that organized but no I'll be staying up until 4 or 5 am on school nights just wasting my life away
I'm too much of a wreck for him
kita deserves better ☠️
sakusa kiyoomi 7.5/10
hmm
I'm a clean freak about some things but also horrendously messy about others so I don't even think he'd like me
isn't he also really tall
why does he not feel tall 😭
like with tsukishima and kuroo you FEEL like they're tall while with suna and sakusa you just know they're tall because the wiki tells you
in my mind sakusa is like 5'9 lmao
hoshiumi kōrai: 7/10
same deal as with hinata and nishinoya
he's a little too short for us to live a practical life
no thoughts about him romantically either
hirugami sachirō: 7.5/10
unfortunately I don't know much about him
but he's going to be a vet!! and I love animals
we will definitely raise cats

oikawa and 47 for your event please
sappy friends-to-lovers number 47 + oikawa tooru
Tumblr media
"LET ME HOLD YOU LONGER!"
a nose digs into your neck, slowly waking you from the nap you were taking. eyes flutter, fighting to stay open as the warmth surrounding you seeps into you. a groan is let out from behind you - you smile.
without turning, you snuggle further into oikawa's hold. he lets out a hum at the feeling, his nose burrowing further into your neck. you pat the arms that wind around your waist, "time to get up, 'kawa."
"don't wanna," he whines. it shouldn't give you butterflies - being this close to your best friend - but, years later, it still does. you relax into him, afraid if you make him move, the mirage will break. "feels nice."
you snort, "sleeping is always nice, silly."
tooru sighs, dragging you closer to him. "feels better with you."
"don't say things like that," you mutter out. you tangle your fingers into his, ignoring how shy his words make you - how hopeful they make you. "people might get the wrong idea."
"as long as you don't, it's fine." his words make you frown, dropping his hands from your hold. his hands are suddenly wrapped around your hips, flipping you so that you're facing him. "that came out wrong."
the frown on his face is mirrored on yours. "tooru-"
you're cut off by the brush of his lips. he watches your wide-eyed expression before pecking your mouth once, twice more. "i want to date, is what i mean. date you."
"okay," you give him a kiss of your own. "let's date."

Hugs and Kisses
Oikawa x fem!reader
Hurt/Comfort, Angst
Warnings: Creepy guy, unwanted advances, self blame, reaction that indicates past trauma, uncomfy situations
Synopsis: A guy consistently bothers you and when he pushes a little to hard, you don't know what to do with yourself.
Headcanon: Oikawa is a big physical touch person and LOVES hugs
A/N: I'm back from the dead. A few things about this story. First, writers block is real, so if this sucks, my bad. I just needed to get words on a paper (screen ?). Second, ⚠️ this story may be uncomfortable or triggering for certain audiences ⚠️ You have been warned, read at your own risk. Y/N's reaction indicates potential past trauma, so no she isn't just being dumb or dramatic. It's a real response that real people have. Anywaaaaaaaaay, I hope you enjoy! I'm working on some other things (slowly), so stay tuned!
Masterlist
Dating Oikawa is weird. You and Oikawa started dating about a month ago. You have never been a popular kid. You had your friend group and you did your things just like everyone else. You figured dating him would draw a little bit of attention but not this much. As you walk down the hallway — the same hallway you have walked for two years — people stare at you. You focus your eyes on the floor and try to ignore them.  You make your way to Oikawa’s locker, but your lack of attention causes you to run into someone.
“Oh I’m sorry.” You look up to see the captain of the baseball team looming over you, his muscular body way too close to you.
“It’s always a pleasure seeing you.” He winks at you with a smirk.
“Uh…” Something about his voices makes you shrink into yourself. You are about to walk away when you feel arms wrap around you.  An involuntary squeak escapes your mouth.
“Gooooood morning beautiful!” A familiar voice calls as he spins you in a circle.
You turn to look at him, “Tooru! You scared me.”
“Sorry that I want to see my wonderful girlfriend.” He says placing a kiss on your forehead. His eyes drift past you to see the large captain behind you, “Oh, hey Hiroto. Sorry, did I interrupt or?”
“No. Not at all.” You quickly reply.
“Yeah, just saying hi.” Hiroto says with a begrudging tone. He passes by you, brushing your shoulder and hitting Oikawa’s.
“Man I just don’t understand him.” Oikawa says, shaking his head.
“Doesn’t matter.” You hug Oikawa, his warm embrace and sweet smell relaxing you. You let out a soft sigh, “I have to go to class.”
“But I just got here.” Oikawa pouts.
“Maybe you shouldn’t be late.” You press a kiss on his cheek, “I’ll come to practice this afternoon, okay?”
“Okay.” You laugh at Oikawa’s pouty face. He really is just a big puppy.
Grabbing the last of your stuff, you close your locker and turn to go to the gym. Standing right behind your locker door is the same guy from earlier, Hiroto.
You jump back, “Oh, uh…sorry. I didn’t see you there.” You swing your bag over your shoulder and go to walk around him, but he steps in front of you.
“Hey, if you aren’t busy, you should come to watch baseball practice.” His scratchy voice makes your brain itch.
“Yeah, uh sorry but I’m going to the gym to watch Tooru practice, so uh…maybe another time.” As you walk away, you scratch your head, trying to get off the weird feeling he gives you.
“Yeah, another time.” He calls after you.
You walk into the gym and Oikawa immediately runs and hugs you. His warm embrace immediately takes away the weird feeling from before.
“Hey, love.” He mumbles into your shoulder.
Before you can respond, you hear Iwaizumi yell, “Loserkawa, get over here and warm up!”
Oikawa looks up and pouts. You can’t help giggling at his silly reaction, “You should go warm up.”
“But I wanna hug you.” He whines.
“I appreciate that, but you are supposed to be practicing,” You give him a peck on the cheek, “I will cheer for you on the side.”
“Okay.” Oikawa sulks back over to his team to warm up. You are dating a child.
You watch Oikawa practice and every time he hits a serve he winks at you. You are trying to study, but your book just sits open, while you neglect it to watch your boyfriend show off.
Coach blows the whistle to mark the end of practice. He calls the boys over for a huddle while you pack up your unfinished homework. Oikawa runs up to you for a hug but you stick your hand out preventing him
“What??” He pouts.
“You’re sweaty. There is no way you are hugging me like that. I’ll go wait outside.” You tease. You walk outside into the cold air, a light breeze blowing pass. You shiver, wishing you had brought a jacket. Maybe you should have taken the hug, at least it would be warm.
“Hey”
You jump and turn around to see Hiroto…again. “Oh uh, hey.”
“You need a jacket?” He asks, offering his, which is also sweaty from practice.
“Um I’m good.”
“Oh, well, do you want me to walk you home. It’s kinda late.” He takes a step uncomfortably close.
You back up against the door of the gym, “I’m actually walking home with Oikawa, but uh, thanks..” You try not to sound to uncomfortable. He just stands there staring at you and you aren’t sure what to do. “Um…I’m gonna go…” You open the gym door and quickly walk back inside.
You speed walk over to Oikawa and tightly hug his arm.
“Hey, I thought you were waiting outside?” He looks over at you with slight concern.
“I got cold…” You lie, not wanting to make a big deal out of it.
“Does this mean you will hug me now?” Before you respond, he engulfs you in his sweaty arms, squeezing you tight.
“Tooru! You’re so gross!” You say that, but you really don’t mind. He makes you feel safe and warm. So for all the teasing, you still welcome the hugs.
You have had weird run ins with Hiroto for a week now. You never knew him before and now he’s everywhere. He makes you uncomfortable, but you don’t tell anyone because you don’t want to assume anything about him. It is probably just you being overly judgmental. Every time you see him, he gets more and more familiar with you. He will stand closer to you, be more forward. He has asked to walk you home several times now and you are running out of excuses.
Normally you have Oikawa as an excuse to get out of conversations, but he is really busy with preparing for his upcoming tournament. You manage to go the whole school day without running into him. Just when you think you will make it the whole day, you run into Hiroto outside the gym. (You were bringing Oikawa dinner since he would be practicing late).
“Hey, how are you?” He asks.
“I’m fine.” You respond quickly.
“What are you doing?”
“Uh, I was just giving Oikawa dinner, since he will be here late.”
“So you are staying here late into the night. That’s kind of rude of him to make you stay.” He suddenly sounds judgmental. You don’t know how to feel about it.
“No, uh he didn’t make me stay. I’m going home because I want to, not that I don’t want to stay. I would stay but I need to do homework and…” You are cut off by him laughing at you. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing. You don’t have to be so defensive.” He lowers his voice and leans in closer, “although it is kind of cute to see you flustered.”
You feel your stomach flip at the statement, “Well, uh, I have to go now.” You slide past him and start speed walking away.
Hiroto, with his oddly long legs, catches up easily with you, “I’ll walk you home.”
“No, you don’t need to do that.” You say shakily, not making eye contact.
“Yeah I do. You can’t walk home alone. I don’t know why Oikawa would let you walk home alone. If I had a girlfriend as pretty as you, I wouldn’t let her out of my sight.”
You freeze outside the school gates, debating whether or not you’re going to stay for Oikawa’s practice. Should you go and get him? No, you can’t bother him. He is already stressed out about this tournament. You can’t be a burden.
“Um yeah, okay. I’ll see you later.” You stare at him, waiting for him to leave.
He stares back at you, “Well, lead the way.” You just look at him awkwardly, hoping he will take the hint. “Uh, earth to Y/N. Lead the way home.” He waves his hand way to close to your face.
“Why?” Is all you can think of to say.
“I can’t walk you home if you don’t walk home.”
“You don’t need to walk me home.”
“Yeah I do.”
“No you don’t.”
“You aren’t walking home alone. You let Oikawa do it, so why can’t I?”
“Because Oikawa is my boyfriend and you aren’t.”
“Clearly he isn’t a very good one.” He takes a step forward, backing you into the pillar of the school gate, “What do you see in him anyway. He is arrogant and self focused. All he cares about is volleyball.”
“That’s not true!” You pipe out, increasingly scared of his presence.
“Really? Then why isn’t he here to walk you home? Why do you always have to stay late for his practice.” He puts his hand on the brick pillar behind you and leans uncomfortably close to your face. You freeze, “We all know I would be a better boyfriend than him. I can tell you like me, so just forget about him.”
You are scared stiff, his face inches from yours. You want to push him away, scream, run, something, but you can’t move. It’s like you are paralyzed. Suddenly, he closes the gap and smashes his lips against yours. You let out a muffled scream, eyes wide and filling with tears. He pulls away with a nasty grin on his face. You stare blankly past him, unsure of what just happened.
“Since you won’t let me walk you home, I’ll leave you with that.” He winks at you and pats you on the head before walking away.
When he is out of sight you crumble to the ground and break down crying. What just happened?
You walk back to your house in tears, confused, uncomfortable, and guilty. How could you have not done anything? Why didn’t you push him away or stop him? When you get home, you immediately take a shower. You scrub yourself, trying to wash away the remnants of him. You sit in the shower drowning in tears, scrubbing so hard that you leave a rash. You end up crying yourself to sleep.
You wake up the next day, drowsy and confused. You hope it was all a dream, until you look at your arm where you left the rash. You almost start breaking down crying again, but you manage to pull yourself together. You are supposed to meet Oikawa today for coffee to study for an upcoming test. How are you supposed to face him? You let another guy kiss you and you have the audacity to casually get coffee. Your phone buzzes on your bedside table, Oikawas name flashing across the screen. You pick up and Oikawa’s smooth voice chimes through the phone, “Hey love, are you alright?” You freeze. How did he know? “We were supposed to meet for coffee at 10 right?”
You look at the time and it’s 10:15, “Oh crap.”
“It’s okay. I was just texting you and you didn’t respond, so I wanted to make sure you were awake.” You can hear his lovely smile through the phone, his comforting presence washing over you.
“I’m sorry. I just woke up. I’m on my way.” Your voice sounds hoarse and like someone who has been crying all night.
“Okay, no rush. I’ll be waiting. Love you.”
“Love you, bye.”
You jump out of bed and rush to get ready. You throw your hair up, put on some random pair of clothes, and grab an apple before running out the door. Luckily the coffee shop is in walking distance from your house, so you make it there pretty quick. You walk in the door, out of breath and see Oikawa sitting at a table in the corner. His face lights up at the sight of you. You walk over and set your backpack down with a thud.
“Morning love,” He pulls you into a big hug, “You didn’t have to run. You look like you just ran a marathon.” He laughs as you press your face against his chest. The vibration from his laugh is comforting enough to put you to sleep.
You pull back and sit down, “I’m sorry. I woke up late and I didn’t even realize. I forgot to set an alarm last night.”
Oikawa cuts you off by squeezing your hand, “Hey, it’s okay. It happens sometimes.”
You give him a half smile, still worn out from everything. He lifts his hand to cup your face, you instinctively lean into his touch. When you look at him, his face is scrunched up in concern, “Are you okay?”
“What?” You internally start freaking out. And maybe a little externally too.
“Your eyes are all puffy and you look worn down. You aren’t smiling like you usually do and your voice is quiet and hoarse, which usually means something is wrong. What happened?”
You are touched that he knows all of these things, but you feel the guilt pound away in your chest. You can’t tell him. It would crush him. But you should. But you can’t. “What, no. I’m fine.” You lie.
Oikawa is not convinced, “Hmm, okay. You don’t want to talk about it. I’ll wait until you want to.”
He is so good to you and you are so bad for him. You might just break down and cry at his gentle manner, but you don’t. He slides over a coffee cup while you take out your books, “I got your regular.” He smiles.
“Thanks, you didn’t have to.” You blush at his kindness.
“Sure I did.”
You spend a couple hours studying for your test. With each tick of the big hand, your heart drops further into guilt. There isn’t much conversation save for talking about the test. You don’t make eye contact the whole time. Oikawa’s voice was soft and his touch was gentle. He knows something is wrong but doesn’t want to pry. Once you feel relatively well prepared for the test, you immediately get up to leave. Oikawa stands with you. He opens his arms for a hug, letting you decide if you want to take it or not. You gently lean into his arms, so desperately wanting to spill your soul to him, but you can’t bring yourself to do it. So you opt to linger in his arms for a small moment
He gently pulls you close, kissing the top of your head. He whispers with the utmost care, “Whenever you want to talk, let me know. I’ll be right here.” You stand silent. “It can be 3am or two days from now. I don’t care when, but please call me, text me, talk to me. Don’t suffer through it alone.”
You nod as you reluctantly pull away from his grasp. You turn on your heel and rush out before he see’s you cry. Oikawa dejectedly watches you walk away, having already noticed the tears forming in your eyes. He can only hope that you will come and talk to him later.
You practically run back to your house, tears flooding down your face. You feel so guilty. You know it’s not your fault, but it kind of is. You didn’t push Hiroto away. You just stood there and let him kiss you. You never said no, you never rejected him. You brought this on yourself and therefore only have yourself to blame. For hours you sit in your room sobbing, overwhelmed, disgusted, and unsure of what to do. You are practically drowning in your tears when you finally can’t take it anymore. You have to do something, tell someone. You have to tell Oikawa. He will be mad and probably leave you, but it is better to rip the bandaid off than let the wound fester. Your hands are shaking as you pick up your phone to text Oikawa. You can’t bring yourself to call him.
Y/N: Can you come over?
To’ ❤️: Of course 🥰 I’ll be right over
Your eyes eventually dried, probably because you are dehydrated. You get up off your bed, the old springs squeaking as you lift your weight off of it. As you walk pass the mirror, you catch a glimpse of yourself. Your hair looks like a rats nest and there are tear stains on your cheeks. You look like a raccoon who had a really bad day. However, you don’t have the energy to do anything about it. You go downstairs and pour yourself a glass of water. Lord knows you need it. You open your fridge, hoping to find food, even though you haven’t gone to the store all week. Your stomach screams at you for only having eaten an apple today and then exerting enough energy equivalent to running a marathon. The lack of food in your fridge is almost enough to make you start crying again. As if you needed more help, you hear a soft knock on your door. You drag yourself over not wanting to open it, knowing what awaits you on the other side. Your hands shake as you reach for the door knob. You suck in a large breath and fling the door open. As you see your tall, beautiful, loving boyfriend standing there, you can’t help breaking down sobbing again. All the guilt and confusion and pain comes flooding back into you. Maybe if you didn’t drink that water you wouldn’t have started crying again. Your knees give out under the weight of your sorrow. Oikawa swiftly catches you, immediately pulling you into his arms. His heart snaps in half at the sight of you so broken.
“Hey shhh, it’s okay. I’m here now.” He whispers, tenderly lifting you off the ground. He closes the door with his foot and walks you over to the couch. Your sobs resound through the room, each one more broken than the next. Oikawa gently cups your face, “Do you want to talk about it?”
You shake your head, unable to choke out words through the tears.
“Do you want to sit here and cry?” He asks kindly.
You grab his shirt, holding on so tight your fists are white. You manage to force out some words, “N-no…I…I-I’m…sor-sorry!”
Oikawa’s face contorts in confusion, “Don’t be sorry. You can sit here and cry and I will comfort you for as long as you want.” You fervently shake your head. Oikawa does his best to decipher your gestures, “No? Do you want to talk?”
You shake your head, trying to force out words. In your effort, you start hyperventilating, everything becoming so overwhelming.
“Shhh, deep breathe in.” Oikawa breaths in, gesturing for you to follow. You manage a broken breath. “Breathe out…Breathe in…Breathe out.”
You and Oikawa do this for a few minutes (more like Oikawa does it and you try between sniffles). Once your breath has evened out, your sobs become more controllable.
“There you go,” It’s not fair that Oikawa’s voice alone can calm you down. “Now what were you trying to say?”
“I…I—“
“Deep breaths, you’ve got it.”
“I…I’m sorry.”
“You have nothing to be sorry about.” “N-no…you…you aren’t g-getting it.” Oikawa looks at you confused. “I—I….” You start hyperventilating again.
“Shhh, deep breaths. One word at a time. You?”
“I-I…I cheated on you! I’m so sorry!!! I didn’t mean to! I didn’t want to! It just happened and I don’t know how and I don’t know why I didn’t do anything. He just was there and I froze and-and—“
You have lost all control at this point. You are sobbing, rambling on and on. Your face is buried in his chest, tears drenching his shirt. He’s holding you so gently while you are gripping his shirt so hard. You are shaking and feel like you might throw up. Your head is spinning and you are confused. It’s so much that you can’t process it all. “I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! You’re so good to me and I’m so terrible for you! I don’t know why you picked me. I’m sorry. I know you probably hate me and want to leave me but please…please!…Please don’t leave.” Your voice trails off, drowned under your tears. You need him so bad. You want to look in his eyes, hear his soft voice, be held in his arms, but you can barely hold yourself up. Oikawa is probably going to leave you. He is going to drop you and walk out. You need him to say something, do something. Even if it is yelling, even if he is breaking up with you, you need to hear his voice. Suddenly, Oikawa pulls you in his lap and hugs you softly against his chest. You freeze. That’s not what you thought he was going to do. Is this his goodbye? Is this it? “I-I…” You try to say something but you just can’t.
“Shhhh, it’s okay.” His voice is so warm and comforting. You can feel his heartbeat through his chest as his scent envelopes you. “I don’t know what happened, but you are not in a good headspace to talk about it clearly. So let’s just breathe.” He takes a deep breath, you following suit. “And let’s just sit and calm down for a moment, okay?”
As he hugs you close to him, you can feel your heartbeat start to match his. Your broken sobs slowly turn into small sniffles. You sit in his arms for you don’t even know how long. Nothing was said, nothing was done. You just breathed together and existed together. You felt the exhaustion of everything hit you like a truck. You curl up small in his arms and feel yourself start to nod off into a much needed sleep.
You wake up on your couch, eyes puffy, your thoughts muddled. It’s dark outside even though it was just midday. What time is it? What happened? You were with Oikawa. You shoot upright. Did he leave you? You look around frantically. You have to apologize…you…you—
“Hey, calm down. I’m right here.” He comes around the couch from the kitchen. You feel the tension in your shoulders release at the sight of him. He sits next to you and you almost instinctively lean your head on his shoulder. But you remember, “I was…we were…talking? Crying? I was apologizing! I—“
Before you can get all lost in your thoughts, he cuts you off, “Calm down, it’s okay. You were upset and we sat and calmed down. You ended up falling asleep because you used so much energy crying. It’s been a few hours. I noticed you had no food, so I ordered some. Do you want to eat? Or do you want to talk?”
“I want to talk. I need to talk. WE need to talk.” Your eyes are wide, like a deer in headlights.
“Okay, then let’s talk. Slowly and calmly. One sentence at a time.” He settles you down a bit, knowing your tendency to ramble. “What happened.”
“I’m sorry. I cheated on you and I feel like a horrible person because you are so good to me and I just ruined it.” You can’t bear to look him in the eye.
“What happened? How did you cheat on me?” He asks with a hint of quizzical disbelief.
“Well he wouldn’t leave me alone and I tried to say no but he kept insisting and then he just, he just kept getting closer and I didn’t know what to do and then I was backed up against the pillar and then he leaned in and he-he kissed me.” You feel yourself shudder at the memory, that disgusting feeling creeping up again.
Oikawa tries to desperately hold himself together, waiting to hear the full story before going and punching a man, “Hold on. Who is ‘he’?”
“Hiroto, that guy from the baseball team.”
“And he kissed you?”
“Yes, but I didn’t do anything to stop him. I just froze when I should have shoved him or—“
“Love, this is not your fault.” His voice is light and compassionate, “He approached you, yes?”
“Yes but—“
“No ‘buts’. Just a simple yes or no. Can you do that for me love? I just want to get everything clear.”
You nod with a quiet ‘yes’.
“You did not want him to approach you?”
“No.”
“You asked him to go away and to leave you alone.”
“Well, not in those exact words, but yeah. I should have been more clear…” You stop yourself before Oikawa does.
“You in some form or fashion attempted to express that you did not want him near you, correct?”
You nod.
“However, he ignored said attempt and then cornered you and forced you to kiss him?” Oikawa’s jaw clenches tighter and tighter with each question.
“Yes…but I should have moved.” “But you couldn’t”
“I didn’t”
“You said you froze, right?”
“Yes.”
“That is a totally normal and valid response to fear. You were backed into a corner and someone—much larger than you might I add—was looming over you. He was in your personal space and violated you. He ignored your signs, ignored your fear, and HE chose to hurt you.” Anger starts seeping out of Oikawa, steam practically fuming from his ears.
“You’re angry. I’m sorry. You have every right to be mad.” You start to shrink into yourself again, tears threatening to come back out.
Oikawa realizes his mistake and immediately softens up again, “No, no. I’m mad yes, but not at you. I’m mad at him for being such a terrible person and for hurting my princess.” He pulls in his lap again, your back to his chest. He wraps his arms around you like a warm blanket, “You did nothing wrong. None of this was your fault. You are the victim here, okay? You have every right to feel hurt or upset or whatever you need to feel. You are not a horrible person. You did not cheat on me by any means. I’m not mad at you. Please don’t be mad at yourself. I love you so much and you are so wonderful and amazing and I’m so sorry you had to go through this. I’m so sorry that I wasn’t there to protect you.”
You spin around to look at him, “Don’t blame yourself, please. You didn’t know. I didn’t tell you anything. I thought he would go away, but he just kept bothering me, day after day-“
“Wait, how long has this been going on?”
“…well you remember at the beginning of the week when we randomly ran into him in the hallway?”
“Vaguely”
“Well, after that I kept running into him and he kept saying weird things and asked me to come watch his practice or if he could walk me home. I always used your practice or you walking me home as an excuse but you were so busy with practice yesterday that I couldn’t stay. And then I ran into him outside and he kept following me, insisting on walking me home and then…yeah.” You look at Oikawa, his face slowly burning red with rage.
“So he has been bothering you for a week now?”
“Yeah, but I didn’t want to say anything because I thought I was being dramatic or looking too much into it…but I guess not…are you mad that I didn’t tell you?”
Oikawa’s face softens again, “No, not at all. I’m sorry that you felt like you couldn’t tell me. You aren’t being dramatic. What he did was genuinely wrong and you are allowed to be uncomfortable or upset by it. Please if anything, anything, big or small, makes you uncomfortable or scared or upset or anything, please tell me. I want to know. I want to help you.”
You place your hand on his cheek, a soft smile poking at the corner of your mouth for the first time all day, “Thank you. That means so much.” You lean your forehead on his, “I love you so much.”
“I love you too.” He closes the gap between you, gently pressing his lips against yours, afraid of making you uncomfortable.
You melt at his touch. Just one kiss from him and all your fears and worries fall away. You wrap your arms around his neck as his arms hold you tighter around the waist. You could live in this moment forever. You break apart but keep your head leaned on his. You two just sit and bask in each other for a moment before Oikawa pulls you in for a hug. You relax into him, letting his presence melt away the ice of the past 24 hours. He gently strokes your hair, “I hope you know I’m gonna kick his ass.”
“Don’t get kicked out of school, or worse, get kicked off the volleyball team.”
He laughs at your comment, the vibration running through you, “It would be worth it for you.”
You sit up, looking at him with a smirk, “Are you saying you like me more than volleyball?”
“I can play volleyball any time with anyone. There is only one Y/N in this world,” He presses a quick kiss on your lips, “And she’s all mine.”
You blush at his flirting, “You love me. You want to kiss me. You want to hug me.”
“Mhm, so what if I do?” He smirks.
“Hmmm, I’ll allow it, but only if you bring me some food. I have only eaten and apple today and I’m starving.” Your stomach growls and you both can’t help laughing at the timing.
“Okay, anything for you, Love.” He gets up and brings over the ordered food, “But for real, we are filing a report against him.”
“No, I don’t want to make a big fuss.”
“It’s either that or I beat him to a pulp. Your choice.” He says, taking a bite of his food
“Lets do the report.” You lean your head against his shoulder, “But you would totally win.”
“You think so?” He says smirking with a mouth full of food.
“Oh yeah. Baseball has nothing on your serves.”
“Got that right,” He throws his arm around you and kisses the top of your head.
How did you get so lucky to find someone like him?
Epilogue
“Did you hear? Hiroto got expelled.”
“Yeah, I saw him leaving school today.”
“What happened?”
“I don’t know but he always made me uncomfortable.”
You hear the murmurs from your schoolmates as you walk down the hall with Oikawa, who is standing awfully tall today. “Someone looks happy.” You nudge him.
“Of course. I’m with you aren’t I.” He smirks down at you.
“Mhm, I’m sure that’s why. At least you didn’t beat him up.”
“Of course not.” He says with a sly voice.
More random voices chime around you, “Bro I saw Hiroto leaving school this morning.”
“Dude, I heard he got expelled.”
“Must have gotten in a fight” “You think?”
“Totally. He had a nasty black eye.”
You smack Oikawa on the arm, “To’ you said you wouldn’t beat him up!”
“I didn’t!” He holds his hands up in defense, “One punch doesn’t count as beating him up.” You walk away, pretending to ignore him. “Y/N wait! Come on, don’t leave me like that. He deserved it!.”
You can’t help laughing at his little pouty voice.
“I’ll make it up to you. I’ll buy you coffee.” He spins you around, giving you the biggest puppy dog eyes he can muster.
“Hmmm, a coffee and ice cream.”
“Done.” He grabs your hand happily and continues walking with you.
“Did it hurt? Did he cry?” You mutter.
“Oh yeah, big time baby.” Oikawa laughs.
You are a terrible person for laughing, but you have a pass this time around.

don’t doubt yourself
kuroo tetsuro x gn!reader (platonic fic)
w/c: 473
genre: hurt to comfort
warnings: breakup w/ oikawa
summary: y/n is going through it and kuroo is a good friend
“y/n…”
“i’m sorry. i can’t help it, the tears just start coming out, and they don’t stop. it’s so easy to get stuck in my head these days,” you confess.
“what’s going on, y/n?” kuroo asks.
“it’s just…ever since the breakup, i’ve been overanalyzing everything that’s happened; all the things i’ve done and what i could’ve been better–what would’ve prevented this.”
─•~❉᯽❉~•─
kuroo knows how down you’ve been, so he brought you out to brunch in hopes of getting your mind off things. the effort was sweet, but nothing really helped because absolutely everything reminded you of him.
it makes sense because for so long, he was your everything. you can admit that it was exhausting thinking about oikawa 24/7 and correlating him to everything in your everyday life. but that’s just how things go when you love someone so much. you think about them, and you don’t stop. it’s like a switch you can never turn off.
─•~❉᯽❉~•─
kuroo is a good friend. he knows that when you’re like this, it’s best if he’s patient and waits for you to talk it out. he tries his best to be engaged while you’re talking or even just trying to, but the words aren’t quite there yet.
“maybe if i tried harder or something. or if i were more forgiving. if i didn’t have such a stick up my ass, we would still be together,” you blurted out.
“don’t be silly, y/n. i saw you put all your effort into that relationship and it drained the shit out of you. don’t pin the relationship ending on yourself. oikawa fucked up, ok? what he did was unexcusable,” kuroo assures you.
“but i fucked up, too. why didn’t he leave me when i fucked up? why was i the one to break up with him?”
“because the two of you messed up on different levels. oikawa has burned all the bridges of trust the two of you built while dating. that’s why you broke up with him. you needed to, y/n. there was no way of repairing that.”
“no, but i could’ve made it work–”
kuroo interrupt, “i’m sorry, y/n, but no. he is a liar and a cheat. please trust me when i say you did the right thing. i know it doesn’t feel like that right now because everything is so fresh, but it’s true. and i know i’m not the one to convince you of that, but please cut yourself some slack. and please don’t doubt yourself. you’re independent and strong and you don’t need that son of a bitch.”
his words actually cease your tears. and they hold you speechless.
“you’ll be just fine, y/n.”
“thank you, tetsuro.”
“of course. now hurry up and eat before your french toast gets cold.”

His kid asks him to stay away (Oikawa, Atsumu)
Inspired by two scenes from Gilmore Girls.
Oikawa is surprised but beaming when he finds his daughter standing outside his hotel suite. "Hey, princess!" He envelopes Yuma (悠真) in a tight hug, which she reluctantly returns.
"I'm sorry I didn't call–"
Tooru shakes his head, squeezing her shoulders. "Nonsense. You're always welcome here. Hey, I made that corned beef that you like. The one with potatoes? I can heat them up right now. Come inside."
"No, that's okay. Listen, dad..." She takes a step back, pulling herself away from his arms. "Mom has a boyfriend."
Tooru blinks. "Oh."
"It's Uncle Iwa."
He inhales sharply. "Yeah, I...I heard."
Japan's team had a plethora of colorful characters, and the more noisy members liked to talk online and post photos of their unknowing teammates, coaches, and trainers. One particular trainer had many candid photos of him and Oikawa's ex wife in the background. You were never active in social media, so Tooru shamefully relied on his daughter's posts to see how you were doing. Her posts were always the same: friends, school, you and her together. You two were like the happier, healthier version of the Gilmore Girls. And there was no other man in your life as far as he can tell.
Everything was fine until last month.
Last month was your first birthday after the divorce. Tooru was in Argentina and could only send a polite greeting and of course, you only sent a simple 'thank you.'
The same time, his daughter uploaded two photos: one was of you two, and the other was of you and his best friend, sitting awfully close to each other.
He remembered that day like it was yesterday. After seeing Iwaizumi so close to you with the faintest red in his face, he had to know, he had to ask.
Three rings before the trainer picked up.
"What the hell, Trashykawa–"
"Are you seeing my wife?"
"..."
Tooru didn't even need an answer. The silence spoke for itself. But he wanted to hear what his friend had to say.
"Oikawa..."
"Please, Iwa-chan. Tell me the truth," he whispers. Iwaizumi had to have known how much Tooru still loves you, how much he wants to turn back time and fix everything. He had to know, because Tooru cried to him the night he signed the papers.
On the other side of the line, Iwaizumi inhales. Then he says, "She's not your wife anymore."
Tooru hung up. He was glad that Japan was an ocean away, because he would've driven straight to Iwaizumi's house and beat him up.
"Dad?" his daughter calls out to him.
"Sorry, sweetie, daddy spaced out for a bit."
His daughter examines his face, her own expression hesitant but determined. She sticks her hands into her coat pocket and speaks up again: "I want you to stay away from them."
Time stills and Tooru feels sick. "You...what?"
"Dad, I love you but...but you hurt mom."
"Honey, I– "
"And it doesn't matter if you mean to or not, you just do. You just do. And before you start, you should know that mom never speaks bad about you, well, not in front of me anyway--"
Tooru should be proud. Even at this moment his sweet Yuma retains his and your snarkiness. But right now he just wants to throw up.
"My point," she continues, "is that I'm not here because mom says you're the devil."
"I know. Your mom isn't like that."
"So then you know that she doesn't deserve getting clobbered."
"... I do."
"She deserves to be happy, dad, and Uncle Iwa makes her happy. I know that you must be mad and hurt but I'm begging you to please let them be."
Tooru can't bring himself to open his mouth as his daughter brushes back her hair, trying to hold back her tears. "I'm still gonna visit you and you can visit me. You can get angry at them and me but don't do anything because... because you should see how mom smiles now."
He understands. Looking back at it now, he couldn't recall the last time you smile so genuinely when you were with him.
His little girl, acting not so little anymore, rubs her face. "Anyway, that's all I got to say. It was nice seeing you."
"Wait–"
"I still have to meet up with my friends."
"At least let me drive–"
"This isn't Argentina, dad," she points out.
He doesn't have a car here. "Right."
She gives him a pitying look but only mutters out a "bye" before leaving.
Tooru silently opens the door to his hotel room.
He heats up the leftover corned beef from last night and sets down his plate on the table, settling in front of the TV.
But he doesn't eat or even listen to the news.
He cradles his head between his hands.
His only daughter, his sweet, little princess who should be free of troubles, came here just to tell him to stay away.
"Dammit." He swallows the lump in his throat as he fiddles with the ring he refuses to take off. "I'm pathetic."
You didn’t ask much. You always supported Atsumu, always defended him from your family when your parents accused him of abandoning you, always made excuses and did everything–everything to keep your relationship happy.
You loved your job and if someone were to go back in time and ask you if you would sacrifice your career for a guy, you’d throw your head back and guffaw, because the idea was insane. But then you met Atsumu, and he wasn’t just some guy. He was the guy. He was sweet and funny and supportive. He adored his mother, he had a good relationship with his brother. He was passionate and he shone brighter than anyone.
And you loved how much he loved volleyball.
So you didn’t ask for much.
You didn’t complain when he had to leave you alone when he was off to Argentina or China for weeks and months.
You didn’t whine when he couldn’t accompany you to family reunions and weddings of close friends.
It was your idea to quit your job the moment the test came out positive.
Sure, you loved your job–love your job–but Atsumu was your whole world. You never thought you’d have someone like him in your life and you were determined to be happy with him and the bundle of joy you two made.
Your son was born healthy. Hiroyuki (ヒロユキ), you decided to name him. Atsumu was there and he showed off the little runt to the doctor who delivered, to the nurses who helped, and your family members waiting outside.
You didn’t expect yourself to end up the way you did, but everything was fine.
Your boys were healthy.
Your husband was doing great. Every week there was always a shower of praise for your genius setter.
Your son grew up nothing like his dad though: while Atsumu was brash and loud-mouthed, his son was a quiet and polite boy who hated conflict; while Atsumu lived for volleyball, his son hated getting dirty and sweaty and preferred academics.
You and Atsumu still wanted him to be healthy though, so you encouraged him to exercise and pursue other hobbies.
Your son only begrudgingly agreed to get you both to shut up.
Everything was great.
You were great. You were content.
But then you saw it, a single message from an unknown number on your husband’s phone.
“I had an amazing night. Call me when you’re in the city.”
Your shining world crumbled in an instant.
You couldn’t remember what you did next. You vaguely recall smashing the device into a mirror and locking yourself in the guest bedroom.
The next six months were a blur, too.
You froze out your husband though you didn’t tell your son the truth, only telling him that mommy and daddy just couldn’t be with each other anymore. Some people were appalled that you wanted to get a divorce. “Because so what if he cheated?” They had asked. “Think of your son.”
You did think of your son. Ever since you discovered you were pregnant with him, you always thought of your son.
The divorce was for his sake as much as yours, because you had no guarantee that you wouldn’t end up murdering his father if you stayed next to him.
So you bought a different house in the next city, got your old job back, and got divorced. Shared custody.
The whole ordeal felt unreal. Every day, you felt like you would float out to space, but you had Hiroyuki, who liked to tug on your pants and remind you: “I’m here, mama.”
You would laugh and give him the tightest hug every time. You wished you didn’t cry so much every time though. You wanted to be stronger for both of you.
And you were strong enough.
With your baby and your job back, you became too busy to even think about your cheating ex.
Fast forward years later and it’s now your baby’s middle school graduation.
“You’re now a man!”
“Stop it, mom.”
“Whatever happened to ‘mama’?”
“Mom.”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” You kissed his cheek. “Your dad should be here soon.”
“It’s okay, I’m not a kid anymore, you don’t have to lie.”
You gently flicked his forehead. “I made sure to tell him.”
He blinked. “You did?”
“I did.”
“When…when did you tell him?”
“Last week–”
“You didn’t have to tell him.”
“He’s still your dad.”
“Yeah, my dad,” he bitterly repeats. Although the lawyers agreed on shared custody, the man was rarely around. When it was Atsumu’s turn to take care of Hiroyuki, he was almost never at home and the people who took care of the kid were either his mom or his brother. Truth be told, Hiroyuki didn’t care. How could he possibly forget the many days he caught his mom trying desperately to hide her sadness and the many nights she sobbed in her bedroom when she thought her son was asleep? Children weren’t idiots. And Hiroyuki never bought into the idea that kids needed a mother and a father either. Why would he? He grew up with only his mother being there for him, so why would he need his father now?
“I would’ve called him myself if you really wanted him here,” he says.
“It’s not about me wanting him here, it’s about him having to want to be here, and he should be here. It’s his only son’s graduation.”
“Middle school graduation. It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing.”
“It’s a celebration in mediocrity.”
“That’s a lot coming from the valedictorian and…” You fall quiet.
“What’s wrong?” He turns to follow your line of sight.
He exhales when he sees his sperm-donor walking into the auditorium, dressed in a clean polo shirt and some woman hanging off his elbow.
His Uncle Samu’s right: the man’s an idiot.
“Hey, mom, could you get me a soda?”
“Huh?” You snap out of your trance.
“I’m kinda thirsty.”
You try to protest but quickly quiet down before giving your son a sad smile and walking towards the cafeteria.
Hiroyuki inherited his father’s height so it only took a few strides before he caught up to the man and his plus one.
“Hi dad.”
Atsumu grins at his son. “There he is, the man of the hour. Happy graduation, kid!”
Hiroyuki bites his lip. He hates how oblivious this guy is. He hates how he could smile like this and bring this woman with him like nothing’s wrong and that everything is okay.
He doesn’t say anything else and an awkwardness falls between the three of them.
Atsumu clears his throat and gestures towards his date. “Have you met–”
“–no.” Hiroyuki shuts him down. “Dad, can we talk? Alone.”
The woman looks peeved and makes a face, like she’s expecting Atsumu to get mad on her behalf, but the volleyball player only shrugs and pulls his arm away from her. “Sure thing.”
The two guys walk to a corner in the room, away from prying eyes.
“Hey, I got you some cash but it kinda feels like it’s not enough, so do you have anything you want for today?”
Without hesitation, Hiroyuki speaks up: “Stay away from mom.”
Atsumu’s head swerves and he is forced to look straight into the clear, unyielding eyes of his only son.
There is a pause.
Atsumu lets out a nervous chuckle. “I’m sorry, I thought I just heard you say that you want me to stay away from your mom.”
“You heard right.” Hiroyuki crosses his arms. “Dad, I know what you’re trying to do.”
“What’re you talking about?”
“Bringing that woman here? I know you’re trying to make mom jealous.”
“That’s ridiculous! First of all, that woman is named Ochaco.”
“What’s her last name?”
“...”
“Dad, just stop. That’s the best thing you can give me.”
“Son–”
“I know you still love her.” Hiroyuki knows how the man looks at you, because it’s the same look you had whenever you heard his name or saw him on the news. He hates that you’re still in love with your ex, because those feelings blinded you from realizing how his Uncle Samu looks at you; Samu who helped you move, Samu who packed your things into boxes because you couldn’t bear a second longer in Atsumu’s house, Samu who made sure you and Hiro were always fed, Samu who could comfort you in ways Hiro couldn’t because you didn’t want to look weak in front of your boy. “But you can’t be together, not anymore, so please just stop these stupid games and go back.”
“What?”
“I have mom, I have Uncle Samu, they’re all I need.”
“Hiro–”
The speakers blared with feedback before the emcee called for all graduates to find their seats.
“I have to go. Bye, dad.”
Atsumu wants to pull back his son, to talk with him, but seeing his little boy walking confidently away from him broke his heart.
He bites his lip.
He really did f*** up.

with you by my side
oikawa tooru (omega)
warnings: OMEGAVERSE ; hurt/comfort ; oikawa has a child ; oikawa is in heat (nothing explicit though!) ; kindergarten teacher and alpha reader ; wc: 4336 summary: An abandoned, marked Omega with a child finally fell in love again. But it's not as easy as it sounded. As if Tooru could ever believe you would want someone as broken and used as him.
-----------------------------
“Waah, it’s Oikawa-san.”
“Oikawa-san is sooo handsome.”
“I know, right? And he carries himself with such pride and elegance, just like an Alpha would.”
“It’s a shame he is an Omega, right? Haahh, he would be such a great Alpha.”
Everyone around you giggled and whispered, though you simply rolled your eyes at their stupid remarks. They would never change, so you didn’t even bother saying anything anymore. Their “whispering” stopped once the handsome man in a suit stepped into the nursery. Beside him walked a little boy with the biggest grin on his face as he waved already when he saw you.
“Good morning.”, Tooru greeted you with a fleeting smile.
“Good morning, Oikawa-san.”, you bowed lightly and then turned to the little one, “And good morning to you too, Aiden – oh!”
When his son immediately glomped your legs, you only laughed a little and gently stroked his hair.
“Aiden really likes you, (Y/n)-san.”
“Haha, yeah, we get along really well, he is such a little angel. Now Aiden, why don’t you say goodbye to your Daddy and you can join the others at the table for breakfast?”
And before you both could even blink, the little one had already waved and cheered “Bye Daddy!” before he rushed into the room to the other children. Oikawa and you were a little stunned at first, but then he chuckled and turned to you again.
“Well, I’ll be going then. I’ll see you later.”, he then said and also lightly bowed before he walked out of the nursery again.
“Ahhh, (Y/n), you are soooo lucky to be an Alpha and the one doing handover with him each day. I wish Aiden was in my group, then maybe I could get closer to Oikawa-san, even if I would just be a mistress.”, one of the teachers said as she dreamily sighed and stared after the handsome ex volleyball player.
“Oh my Gosh, Yuriko! Don’t even think that. Oikawa-san is clearly bonded, so don’t be so thirsty.”, you playfully elbowed her and with that, she just giggled and went back to the preschool room. Seriously, she was unbelievable.
And with everyone out of sight, your own smile faded a little as you looked out the window, waiting for other parents to arrive. Meanwhile, though, your thoughts circled around one particular man.
It was true.
Oikawa was quite handsome and his little smiles sent the butterflies in your stomach flying. Though you knew you could never, ever actually do something about that. Not only were you in a very difficult position as the teacher of his child, to top it off, you worked as an Alpha in this kind of field that was pretty much exclusively for Omegas. Besides, you had clearly smelt it. Taken Omegas had a very particular scent and even though his had faded quite a bit, you believed it was due to you getting used to it, nothing more. Ergo, he had already found his mate and, obviously, had become pregnant and given birth to little Aiden.
And being a “mistress” like Yuriko had said, was something you would never do – ever.
So, there was seriously no chance for you at all, and that was okay.
You would take care of little Aiden for one more year, then, you would never see Oikawa again. After that, you could finally forget that stupid crush you had developed over the past years.
Though, there was that little voice in the corner of your mind that always nagged you about the fact that you had never seen Tooru’s mate… in real life at least. Since it had been all over social media when he and a very beautiful female volleyball player, an Alpha, of course, had gotten married.
But Tooru had registered Aiden all on his own and he had also always been the only one who would pick him up in the last few years. And truth be told, his mate, who still played for Ireland’s national team, hadn’t talked about Tooru or Aiden anywhere on social media, nor been seen with them.
You knew all that and yet, still, you didn’t want to step out of line and assume. They could still be happily married and bonded but decided to keep that part of their lives private. Though, it was strange that Aiden never mentioned his Mommy.
While all of those thoughts circled around in your head, over and over and over again, you had done handover with the last parent and closed the nursery to start the day. Like many other days prior, you decided you would stop thinking about it all for good today! Seriously!
#
“Aiden is still here? This is rare…”, the last one of your colleagues said as she grabbed her bag to leave.
“Yeah, it is really, really unusual for Oikawa-san to show up this late, especially without calling prior to let us know.”
You looked at Aiden still playing in the corner with some dolls.
“Have you tried calling him?”
“Multiple times already. He won't pick up.”
“Any emergency contacts you could try?”
You knew Yuriko meant well, but her questions annoyed you a little. As if you wouldn’t have thought of that already! Yet, you still smiled politely, “Sadly no, he never put any emergency contacts down, even though we asked him each year, he insisted he would always pick up the phone and there was nothing to worry.”
“But I mean, you can't stay here all night. It’s already past 8, (Y/n)…”
“I know, I know. Look, go on home Yuriko, I’ll stay here for as long as need be and… I’ll figure something out.”
“Alright… see you on Monday. Goodbye Aiden.”, she still waved at the little kid and then left for good.
After that, you sighed, before you got back and grabbed the phone again.
You really didn’t want social services and police involved, but if Oikawa wouldn’t come to pick up his child anytime soon, you didn’t know what else to do… Though, for now, you tried to call again while you played with Aiden to make him feel less lonely.
Another 10 minutes later, you still couldn’t get ahold of Oikawa, when you saw headlights that stopped in front of the nursery. As expected, a few moments later, someone rang the bell. However, all your hopes shattered when it wasn’t the man you had hoped to see in front of the glass door.
“Who are you?”, you asked through the speaker.
“I’m here to collect Aiden.”
“And you are?”
“I’m his friend.”, the strange man said, annoyed at your questions.
“Listen, honestly, I don’t care who you are or what you are to Oikawa-san, but he has never put anyone down for emergencies so, unfortunately, I cannot let you into the nursery and take home Aiden, because I cannot trust you.”
“Wha-? Ugh! Woman! For fuck’s sake!”, the man growled, and right then you knew it was another Alpha and, while the other Omega caretakers might have been affected by his voice, you weren’t. At. all.
“Try anything and I will bite your throat.”, you growled into the speaker yourself.
However…
“It’s uncle Haji!”, an excited voice besides you shouted.
When you looked down, Aiden stood at the glass door and waved ecstatically. The man waved back and then grumbled, “Will you let me in now?”
“Aiden… sweetheart, do you know this man?” You kneeled down and asked him, ignoring said man outside for a moment.
“Mmn. It’s uncle Haji. Sometimes I sleep over. He’s Daddy’s friend!”, he excitedly told you and waved again.
“Oh…”
Though, still unsure, you looked back to the man in front of the locked door. It was wrong on so many levels, but… if Aiden knew him. No, no. He was a kid, it was too risky.
You stood up again.
“Aiden knows you, too, but, legally, I cannot hand the child to a stranger. Oikawa-san hasn’t put you down as an emergency contact or anything… And I cannot reach Oikawa-san to confirm-”
“Because he is in heat.”, he suddenly blurted out, “He passed out from the pain and everything and frantically called me half an hour ago when he woke up and realized how late it was and begged me to collect Aiden because he physically couldn’t.”
“Ah… oh…?”
“Okay, listen. I have proof on my phone that I can show you. I know I overreacted a little there, but I am really panicking right now, because Aiden has been left in the nursery for over 2 hours now!”
“Then why didn’t he call me?! Or pick up the phone? I tried it so many times already. Okay, he was passed out, but like… half an hours ago, I literally called every few minutes.”
“Oh my God.”, Hajime clasped his hands together, his string of patience about to snap.
“This is so complicated. Haaahhh… You’re (Y/n)-san, right?”
“Yes… yes I am and why is it comp-“
“Oikawa likes you.”
You stopped mid-sentence and blinked for a few moments.
“So there is no way in hell he could have come to pick Aiden up today or even called. He was barely able to talk to me over the phone. And like I said, he had already passed out and it was too late when he noticed.”
“Ne, ne… Why can’t Haji come in?”, you felt a little tug on your shirt and a small voice.
“Ah… I…”
You were overwhelmed.
Completely baffled to be honest. The current situation was surreal.
“Can… you give me any sort of proof that you’re really his friend? I just… Anything.”
“I have texts and his number and photos to proof it.”
“Okay… can you hold them against the door? So I can see?”
And that, he did. When he showed you the call from around 45-ish minutes ago, it was indeed Oikawa’s number and he also showed some pictures of Aiden, Oikawa and himself that seemed pretty recent. So… against all your instincts, you decided to trust him and opened the door.
“Finally!”
And, thankfully, once he stepped inside, Aiden also immediately flung himself into the Alpha’s arms.
“So? Do you still think I am a stranger?”, he asked as he picked up the toddler.
“Well… no. Otherwise, Aiden wouldn’t have glomped you like that if he wouldn’t know you very well.”
“Yeah, my mate and I take care of Aiden from time to time, especially when Oikawa is… uhm… you know, in Heat and stuff and bedridden. It was okay the last few years when his bond hadn’t faded yet, but now…not even the suppressants really work and… I gotta stop talking, that’s none of my business.”, he sighed in frustration, “Anyways, uhm, thanks and I’m sorry I got a little… heated. To be honest, I am really glad Aiden has a teacher like you who would fight for him like that.”
“Yeah, no uhm, I mean… that’s my job. So, yeah. Ahm… sorry, I am really… I don’t know what to do right now. That information is all a little much right now, so you got me speechless to be honest, even though I am an Alpha too, haha…”, you nervously laughed.
After you wrote down Iwaizumi’s contact information and made a copy of his ID, a bit of an awkward silence settled in as he thought for a little. Then he seemed like he had made up his mind.
“I… most certainly am overstepping a boundary here but… like I said, Oikawa has been talking about you for at least a year now and that’s also when his heat started to come back, so I think… he really means it when he says he likes you… a lot. It means he’s finally over her and, I’m definitely overstepping something here, but if there is a chance that you like him too, you know… he is at home. Suffering through this alone. I will take Aiden with me for the weekend, so…”
“Are you… sending an Alpha to an Omega’s home… while he is in heat?”, you raised your brow in disbelief.
He did gulp and then stumble a little over his words as he tried to explain, “Because, well, he has been suffering for so many years and he finally let go and started to look ahead, so if there is the slightest chance that you like him as well-“ But then Hajime stopped himself.
“No, you know what. You’re right. I am actually an idiot. This has nothing to do with me and I definitely said something I shouldn’t have. I will go and, if the suppressants still don’t work until Monday, I will be the one bringing Aiden and collecting him again, so we will see each other again anyways. Aiden, say bye bye to your teacher now.”
“Bye~!”, Oikawa’s son smiled and gave a small wave as he had completely nestled himself into Iwaizumi’s arms, tired and just happy to be in a familiar, safe space now.
“Bye, Aiden…Goodbye Iwaizumi-san.”
And when they left, you finally sat down and hove a big sigh.
This all seemed like a really weird and bad dream. It was truly surreal. Plus, it still felt wrong to have had Iwaizumi collect Aiden, but… from your own experience, children did not trust Alphas. Their instincts led them to Omegas first and to female Betas second, but never to Alphas, not even female ones (hence why it had been so difficult to fulfil your dream of being a kindergarten teacher.) So, if Aiden wouldn’t have fully trusted and hugged Hajime the moment he stepped inside, thus suggesting they did know each other very well, you would have fought for dear live before handing him over. Though, all the other evidence like photos and the number were quite convincing as well.
But then, there was all that other… information. You thought it wasn’t right of Hajime to tell you something so private about Oikawa, but you believed he truly meant well and just wanted his friend to be happy again.
Now, honestly, the rest was up to you…
#
“Haah… Haah… Nghghg!”
Once another wave of cramps and painful heat shot through his body, Oikawa grabbed the pillow harder, almost ripping the fabric. Even though he had relieved himself multiple times already, the pain of wanting to be taken and loved didn’t stop.
He hated himself for doing something so disgraceful. The fever made him imagine all sort of things… that were done by you to him. It was your hand that groped and squeezed him, gave him relief and satisfaction. Though, when another heat wave almost made him pass out from overwhelming emotions and the fever, he knew that it wasn’t you. He was just by himself. All by himself.
“I’m sorry… I’m sorry…”, he choked out while tears streamed down his face.
With one hand, he dug his nails into the bond mark; a mark that had once made him so happy now brought nothing but pain. It tainted him. He was broken and used. He could never confess to an Alpha like you. You deserved so much better. Tooru believed he was better off alone after all the heartache and pain he had to go through in the past five years. His mark, that had lightened already since the bond had finally been cut off, would never completely fade away and would forever stigmatize him. And, even worse, he had so many scars covering it. Scars from his own nails that had dug into his flesh and drawn blood so often. But it would never be gone. Never. How could he even think about dating again when he couldn’t even proudly wear his future mate’s mark when another – in his eyes – shone so brightly still.
Tooru was about to give in to the fever that wanted to knock him out, when a sudden ring of his doorbell made him flinch. He didn’t know who it could be, since he was sure Iwaizumi should have collected Aiden by now and since his friend knew about his predicament, he wouldn’t drop him off. So, he decided to ignore it, however…when the bell rang again, he, begrudgingly, dragged himself to the bedroom window that faced the streets. And when he saw who exactly stood in front of his little house, his knees already gave in.
No, no, no. This… couldn’t be real.
Tooru, with his muscles aching and a mild fever clouding his mind, dragged himself out of the bedroom to the little hallway. Desperation, want and pain drove him to think irrationally when he unlocked the door and flung it open as if he wasn’t just emitting the most potent pheromones.
And certainly…all it took was a few seconds before your own Alpha pheromones reached his nose and all the Omega wanted to do was jump you. However, with the last remaining clear thoughts he scraped together, he stumbled backwards in an effort to get away from you, especially when he saw the look on your face.
“N-No… I… don’t… look.”, he sobbed, but your scent had already brought him to his knees right at the entrance.
That’s when he realized another thing. Since his heat affected you as well, it meant you didn’t have a bond with anyone. It made him so stupidly happy to know that, his body produced even more pheromones to cloud your mind even further.
“O-Oikawa-san… I…”, you gulped heavily, your breath ragged as you closed the door behind you and stared at the Omega in front of you.
That stare alone burned. But it wasn’t unpleasant. Something inside of him wanted you to keep looking at him more.
“Please…”, he whined as he reached out his hand.
That was it.
There was no way you could hold back anymore.
#
“Okay… there we go. All clean.”, you gentle pushed the corners of the band-aid down so it stuck to his skin properly.
Now, after you had stopped his and your aching for a few hours, Oikawa was finally able to think clearly again. Though, it was still strange. Things like “aftercare” were quite new to him. Because of his former wife, he was used to being… used. Not loved, per se.
Hence why, when you stood up and actually cleaned all his little wounds from your own biting and scratching, as well as the deep wound near his former bond mark, he didn’t know what to say or how to react. So, he just let you do it quietly.
Afterwards, you lay back down onto the bed, facing him.
“Are you okay, Oikawa-san? Does it hurt anywhere?”, you asked, genuinely worried about him, “I know I can get pretty rough. I’m sorry.”
“No, I…I’m fine. Thanks for… uhm… helping me out.”
“No problem… though I was really scared when you didn’t show up for Aiden. And your friend can get pretty scary too.”
“Ahaha… yeah, Iwa-chan’s pretty intimidating. Sorry, I couldn’t call, I am… a horrible father and useless Omega.”, he said, covering his face with his hand.
“Ah, no that’s not how I meant it. So please don’t say that. You are wonderful. You know… it’s not your fault your heat’s so strong.”
“It kinda is… I know I overdosed on suppressants during my last cycle since it was already so bad, so it got totally out of control this time. I am such an idiot.”, he laughed at himself deprecatingly, “I can't do anything right, why? I can't even take care of Aiden without any help, I am such a failure. And then I dare to fall in love with you, even though I am so useless and shameful.”
“Hey…”, you scooched a little closer and gently grabbed his hand to reveal his face again, “Don’t say that. You’re not useless or shameful! … Where is the Oikawa-san that always carries himself with such pride and elegance, hm?”
“Well, he is but a mere lie.”, he scoffed under tears, “In reality, I am just used goods, a used tissue thrown away in the bin. I can't even properly take care of myself, how am I supposed to take care of Aiden? I couldn’t even be a decent Omega to my mate, so how am I supposed to be a decent father, I-”
“Oikawa-san!”, you grabbed his cheeks, surprising him a little and stopping his self-loathing, “Don’t talk about yourself like that, I won’t allow it. You are not used goods or shameful, or anything else you say you are. You are a hardworking, kind, loving father. You raise Aiden all on your own and he is such an energetic, loving little fella. You are amazing and… even if I don’t know much about your past, I promise you that, whatever happened, will not keep me from falling in love with you even more. I don’t care about your old bond mark or that you have a child with someone else, I… like you just like that. You and Aiden are very precious to me and… I want to get to know you more and fall in love with you more and be by your side and eventually also… uhm… mark you.”
You looked him straight in the eyes, even if your cheeks had turned a little warmer due to your own words. However, as you watched his own eyes become glazed as he tried to hold back the tears again, you didn’t regret just stating the truth and how you honestly felt.
“Really? You mean it? You… won't abandon me and Aiden after you get to know me? And I promise! I won't be clingy or annoying. And I will try my best not to scent you and you don’t have to do it to me either, I won't take your stuff or nest or anything and you don’t have to bother with my heat, I promise I’ll get it under control again and I won't bother you with Aiden, I- ”
It truly broke your heart to see the usual prideful Omega so broken as he continued with his tirade of all the things he wouldn’t do. Even though they were completely fine and most, if not all of them, just things Omegas liked and did naturally. You wondered what the hell his past Alpha had done to make him so insecure about these things.
So, in the end, you simply shut him up with a kiss. And that worked quite well as he instantly returned the sweet gestured.
“Oikawa-san, I promise, I won't abandon you. And I would be really honored to scent you and have your scent on me as well. If you want to make a nest, please tell me and I’ll bring over anything you need, you can even do it in my closet if you would want that.”, you told him reassuringly as you leaned your forehead against his, “If you let me, I will take care of you during your heats, you don’t have to take suppressants or suffer alone. And you know I already adore Aiden, so don’t even think about it, you two could never bother me. Okay? You don’t have to hold back with me, yeah?”
That truly overwhelmed him. Before, he had just accepted all the conditions of his former mate without much questions, since, despite all of it, he loved her and wanted to be a good Omega for her. Though, with all the things you just told him, maybe it really… was okay to just be himself from now on.
“Yeah…Thank you, (Y/n)-san.”
That was all he said before he hugged you closely and kissed you again.
#
You stood with a smile in front of the glass door, awaiting the parents like every other weekday. And your smile only brightened when a familiar car parked and a handsome man in a suit stepped into the nursery, carrying himself with elegance and pride like always.
“Good morning, Oikawa-san, good morning Aiden.”, you greeted them.
“Good morning, teacher. Oh…”, Aiden stopped in his track and then looked up to his father. “… Daddy! I finally know why you smell so different, you smell like (Y/n)-sensei. I knew something was different yesterday when I came home.”
Before you could even react properly, the little one was on his merry way to the breakfast room, happy he connected the dots all on his own like a big boy.
“Kids these days…”
“Alpha/Omega kids pick up on anything, hm?”, Tooru said, a little rosy hue adorning his cheeks as he fiddled with his necktie for a moment, though, when your eyes met, you both had to chuckle a little.
“I’ll see you tonight, (Y/n)-san.”, then he leaned forward a little (your colleagues enviously starting at the scene from the back) and whispered, “Also, I would love it if you could join me and Aiden for dinner on this fine Friday. I think it’s time to tell him now.”
“Oh.”, a smile inevitably found its way on your lips, “Yeah, I’d love that. I’ll see you tonight then.”
Tooru nodded and rose again, before he bowed slightly into the direction of your colleagues (who embarrassingly and hastily looked away to try and look busy). Then he walked away.
“Ah! Oikawa-san?”
“Hm?”, he stopped in his track and turned around slightly.
“There’s a hair on your suit…”, you pulled Aiden’s hair from his necktie, inevitably, or more like… deliberately, you let your wrist glide along the fabric for a second, scenting him indirectly once again, “Sorry, now you’re ready for work, have a good day, Oikawa-san.”
Even though you smiled, he could see the mischievous little glint in your eyes, hence, with a little bit more warmth developing on his cheeks, he turned away and left with a mumbled, “Thanks.”
However, as the only Alpha in the room, you vividly smelt the happy pheromones he emitted, even if he was a little shy about it.
“Hehe alright…”, you giggled and clapped in your hands, “Let’s get to work.”

Oikawa Tooru never liked to talk about what was bothering him.
You could say he just preferred to take it out while he was training. Oftentimes he’d come home late, muscles aching, palms stinging from pushing himself past his limits. He’d trudge into the bathroom and strip down to shower only to end up thinking so much that his body wouldn’t feel clean at all. His weight was so much heavier with the stress upon his shoulders. No matter how hard he tried, or how much he scrubbed his body down, he couldn’t get rid of the thoughts that plagued his body, mind, and soul. Red streaks would be left from the hot water, and the harsh scrub of the cloth down his arms, legs, and chest.
He’d walk into his room, thinking about his next play. How he would get better and improve, not letting one moment of planning and practicing in his head go to waste. He doesn’t check his phone, rather just sits down at his computer to watch the footage from the day’s earlier matches. It’s a vicious cycle.
— A chime breaks through his thought— it was you, you should’ve been sleeping.
Tooru, did you just get home?
Yes, why?
I’m coming over. Iwaizumi said you left really late tonight and that he had to drag you out of the gym
It’s normal sweetheart, get some rest.
read at 22:47
He knew there was no stopping you when it came to him, your tenacity was second to none. He’s grateful for you, that you’ve lasted this long with him. Past partners have broken up with him due to his dedication to volleyball, angered that he wouldn’t pay attention to them, even though that was furthest from the case.
In all the time you’ve known and loved Oikawa Tooru, he’s been nothing but kind and thoughtful. Quite a loving partner, supportive and affectionate. He was truly a romantic once you got past the superficial flirting and fake smiles.
Loud footsteps echoed in the hall outside Tooru’s room, and swift, fervent knocks sounded at his door.
“Tooru? It’s me, your mum let me inside”
Wordlessly, Tooru got up and shuffled to his door. Upon opening, he was met with your face, laced with concern and worry.
“God, you look so tired”
He shrugged and jerked his head back as a signal to come in. The room was dark, with the only light being the blue harsh light of his computer screen. He plopped down on his mattress, feeling the weight of the day finally catch up with him. He barely registered you sitting down next to him.
“You don’t have to talk Tooru, just let me take care of you”
“Hold me” Tooru whispered
“What was that?” You asked quietly
“Hold me, please” His voice cracked, the last part of his request sounding like a whimper.
You took him into your arms, gently laying down and cradling him, surrounding him with you and your warmth. His shoulders are still tense, so you lay a gentle hand between his shoulder blades and rub. Applying slight pressure on the knots in his back, while your other hand reaches for one of his, clasping it and stroking your thumb on his palm. You coo his name and sweet reassurances in his ear and the warmth becomes overwhelming, traveling to his eyes and face, the familiar feeling of tears creeping up on him. You could feel his body shake and his breathing become erratic and shallow.
“Tooru?”
No response, just the short breaths and quiet sobs coming from the boy on your chest. You could feel his warm tears stain your sweater. You continue your ministrations, letting him release all his pent up emotions. All he can choke out are two words.
“Don’t leave”
“Shh, shh, I won’t leave. I’m always going to be here for you”
“Promise me”
“I promise”
Tooru clutches you tight with no intention of letting you go, afraid you’ll disappear. You move your hand to his chestnut hair, stroking the soft locks and letting him know you’re still with him. The night grows older, and Tooru’s grip gets softer as his harsh sobs turn into deep sleeping breaths. Your heart settles down to an even tempo, matching with your beloved’s.
The stars shine down kindly on the two young lovers tonight, granting them an easy sleep, and for Tooru, a peaceful mind.

Oh yeah also also!!
Hq character and reader gets into a fight (they’re dating now, ofc fights are gonna happen once in a while)
Hq character says something along the lines of “im done” or “im tired” and reader misunderstands it as they meant their relationship
So the guilt, anxiety and fear starts crashing down and they’re lowkey hyperventilating and panicking
And then comes comfort hehe
Contain/s: mentions of hyperventilating, argument, angst with comfort
A/n: well, this took so long to answer :D

"I am getting tired of this shit!" That's what their last words were before they left.
You were tired and stressed out, it was just a small misunderstanding, but you didn't expect that you will be screaming at each other. The fight went on for a while, exchanging profanities and insults at each other before your partner leave the house with a loud slam from the door.
Your feet were glued to the floor as you stared at the place where they last stood before they left. This is it. It's all over. There's a higher chance that they will pack up their things and leave you alone.
Guilt, fear, and anxiety crept into your body as you gripped your arms tighter, your heart began to ache at the thought of them leaving you. What do you do? What should you do? Should you run out of the house and look for them?
You were panicking as these thoughts run through your head, your hands were sweating bullets as you unconsciously rubbed your arms while you feel your tears prickled from your eyes. You felt dizzy as you rapidly tried to get enough air in your lungs, you can even hear your heart beating fast.
"It's going to be alright," you heard a familiar, soft voice. You look up to see your lover who came back with a look of concern on their face, "follow my breathing, slow deep breaths," you felt a warm hand lifting yours to their chest.
It was warm, you felt their chest heaving up and down slowly. You looked and followed the movement of their lips, it parted as they breathe in and pursed their lips as they breathe out. With a few slow deep breaths, you were able to breathe normally, though with a few sobbing sounds.
"Are you alright? Do you need anything?" You felt their thumb on your wet cheek, wiping away the remaining tears in your eyes.
You shake your head as a response, "listen, I'm so sorry about earlier! I...I let that situation the better of me and—"
Your partner cuts you off, "Hey, it's fine! I also felt guilty about what happened earlier... But I want to figure this issue out together once our minds are clear, yeah?"
Your eyes filled with hope and surprise, "y-you won't leave me, then?" Hearing your question made them surprised, did them walking out made you think of this?
"Of course not! I want you to know that no matter how many arguments or fights we have, I still love you and that won't change," you felt butterflies fluttering around your stomach as their eyes goes soft and their voice was raised a bit but in a softer tone.
You smiled as you felt their fingers interlocking with yours.
"Shall we hit the bed and talk about it in the morning?"
"Huh? Haven't you heard? You're sleeping on the couch tonight!"
"We both know that you can't sleep when I'm not next to you, (Y/n)..."

Bad dreams
Your best friend and flatmate had a nightmare and needs some comfort (pining)
((rn I don't have the strength to proofread, be patient with me pls.
Originally I wanted to do osamu and akaashi too, but I felt uninspired, might do them another time though))
☁️
Miya Atsumu
You feel a gentle hand on your shoulder, forcing you to reluctantly open your eyes.
"'Tsumu" you murmur groggy, trying to focus your gaze on him, "Are you okay?". Usually you would be angrier at someone waking you up, but you know your best friend.
Atsumu doesn't like to ask for help, at this point you know it well, you've seen him mask his vulnerability with a smile or a smirk or even anger many times. During those times you just sit silently beside him, sometimes you offer him food, sometimes a distraction, always trying to be kind but without pitying him (or at least what he thought what pitying someone was).
So when he wakes you up in the middle of the night, with the expression that he has, you know something's up.
"Sorry for waking you up", he sheepishly scratches his neck, looking at the floor for a second.
Atsumu is a strong man, tall, with large shoulders, the t-shirt and shorts he wears as a pyjama shows muscly arms and thick thighs. Though, with his messy hair and sad expression, he reminds you of a lost child. It's quite a rare sight, and it makes your heart sink into your chest.
"I had a bad dream" he continues "don't really wanna talk about it, but can I sleep here?".
You can't help but nod, scooting over to make some space for him in bed. The volleyball player doesn't waste any time, wrapping his arms around you, his head on your chest, your hands automatically strokes his blonde locks. There are no words, just the sound of his breath.
You're used to atsumu being touchy, it was his way to show affection with you, he was better with actions than words, it's a blessing and a curse at the same time. At this point you can't live without the comforting weight of him on you while watching a movie on the couch, the way he links his pinky with yours in a crowded street, how he massages your shoulders when you're stressed.
You're used to it, addicted even, but it also hurts, because you know it's just meant as friends and nothing more. And lately you've tried to ignore the thoughts of maybe wanting to have him as something more.
Oikawa Tooru
You lay on your side, staring at the wall in front of you, even though he's still you can feel his weight on the mattress, it's almost like you can sense his warmth seeping into your skin. Why are you so nervous? You're just sharing your bed with your best friend, nothing more.
You just wish the things between you two were normal again, for some reason unknown to you the volleyball player's behavior has been weird lately.
His busy schedule was nothing new to you, nonetheless he always found time, whether it was just a short walk and ice cream, watching a movie or just drinking something warm thogheter after he showered. You even asked Iwaizumi if there was something wrong, but you were left with more questions than answers.
"Are you awake?", your train of thoughts is interrupted by tooru's meek voice. You hesitate for a second, but then you just turn to face him, it's just stronger than you.
You feel your face getting warm, he's closer than you thought, you hate yourself for feeling this way. It's not like your best friend never touched you, he often playfully bumped your shoulder while passing by you in the apartment, you often layed your legs on his lap while watching tv, he was also a hugger. You always complained about him being clingy and whiny, wanting a hug after every match, you always told him that he was sweaty and stinky, though you always leaned into his touch, now you can't remember the last time you felt his arms around you.
"What's worng?" you ask, looking at his face, not sure of what you should do, usually you would stroke his hair or smooth your fingers over his back, but lately he's been avoiding you and your touch, even though he was the one who asked to sleep in your bad because he had a nightmare.
"I'm sorry I've been acting weird lately", it's a whisper, "I've just being lost in my thoughts... and I'm having nightmares". You can tell the brunette's telling the truth, but you feel like he's still hiding something from you.
"You don't have to talk about it, if you don't want to", you sigh, "But if I did something wrong, please, tell me", your voice cracks a little bit, you close your eyes for a second, trying to find some composure.
"Hey, what are you talking about? You did nothing wrong", his hands are cupping your face, calloused pads stroking your cheeks. "I've been such an idiot, making you worry like that" he sighs, laying his forehead against yours, you can't help but lean into his touch, feeling your face getting warmer, which doesn't go unnoticed.
"Are you okay? You're face is really warm", his tone isn't tesing though, just worried. "I'm fine", you gently take his hands, making him release your face, "You're the one who's here because you needs comfort, not me".
"So", this time the volleyball player's tone is lighter, more playful, "since I'm the one who needs comfort", "Yeah?", "Can I ask you to be the big spoon?". "Yeah", you giggle a little up, "you can ask me that", you take his shoulders and make him turn, then you wrap your arms around his sides, giving him a kiss on the nape of his neck.
"I've missed you, tooru"
"I've missed you too"
"Make me worry like this again and I'll kill you".
Suna Rintarou
"Still problems with insomnia, huh?", you're startled by rin's voice, you didn't expect him to walk into your shared kitchen at 3 am.
"Another nightmare?" you ask, diverting your eyes from the boiling water to look at him, "Yep", he makes the final p pop.
"I'm making some herbal tea, you want some?", you point at little pot on the stove, "Why not?", he sits at the table, you feel his green eyes on you.
"Which tea are you making this time?", rin wasn't really a fan of your herbal teas, but he always accepted when you offered them, he even made one for himself one day, when you were out of town and he missed you. Actually, he did it everytime he missed you and you weren't around, luckily for him you rarely left the apartment for a long time, you never found out about some missing tea bags.
"Lavander", you smile tired, "people say it helps with sleep, it tastes good, smells good. Oh, look how cute the packaging is" you add, pointing at the pastel lavander package, smiling a little bit more.
Cute, rin thinks to himself, referring to you. He couldn't care less about the tea packaging, but he found you so adorable.
"So", you sit at the table with two mugs, offering him one, "What did you dream this time? If I can ask". The volleyball player takes tha mug in his hands, letting the warmth of it seep into his skin, though he prefers when you take his hands in yours to help him feel less cold.
"Nothing special", he looks at you taking a sip of tea, trying to not stare at your lips, "the usual stuff". You nod, resting your head on your hand, "Do you think lavander tea helps? I mean with sleep", you avoid his eyes, "I feel so tired" you sigh.
"If it does, I'll directly inject it in my veins" he jokes, you laugh a little bit, "I think I still prefer to drink it", you yawn,"it tastes good".
"Of course it tastes good, you add so much sugar", he boops your nose. "That's...possibly true", you sigh before taking another sip, "Maybe if you add something sweet, you'll nightmare will go away" you pout. "I don't think my doctor would agree" he snorts, "Plus", something shifts in his eyes, "I already live with you and I still get nightmares".
You feel your face getting warm, did he really insinuate that you were sweet? Was it one of his way of teasing you, it could be, but it also feels weirdly honest.
"Don't tease me, rin", you shriek before resting your head on the table, feeling your heart beating faster, and it's not because of the sugar.

Hi Ducky could I send in an emergency request? I’ve been having really bad anxiety and panic attacks and Kuroo and Oikawa are my top comfort characters so I wanted to know if something with that could happen…?
Hello!! Thank you so much for the request.
Thank you for trusting me with your issue. I will make sure to write this to the best of my ability.
My dms are always open. Let me know if you need anything!!
CW BELOW THE CUT: graphic descriptions of panic attacks.

𝑇𝑜𝑜𝑟𝑢 𝑂𝑖𝑘𝑎𝑤𝑎
It’s not like you could help it or anything… they just, kinda happened.
The more you thought about not thinking about it, the more and more they started happening.
Truthfully, you knew that there wasn’t any real danger. But damnit, your mind was dead set on convincing you otherwise.
Luckily for you, you had an incredibly attentive person attached to your hip.
Tooru Oikawa, your best friend since diapers, wasn’t the most emotionally adept individual, but he could pick up the signs of a panic attack before you even realized they were occurring.
So, on the night of his eighteenth birthday, he knew just what to do, and how to do it discretely…
You, Oikawa, and three of his other friends, were all seated at a restaurant for a nice meal. Everything was normal, Makki glaring daggers at Mattsun, Iwaizumi trying vainly to keep them tamed, and you and Tooru spectating the whole ordeal.
As they all say: it really does come out of nowhere.
Breaking you from your previously serene state was a nauseating wave of panic. Nothing was happening to you, and yet your mind was alerting you of danger. Why?
You noticed first your vision tunneling into an almost blurry state. That’s okay, that’s manageable. You can live with some weird vision.
That is, until it got worse.
You then noticed your chest bearing a heavy weight. The pressure on your lungs made your chest burn and your head spin. It hurt. But, that’s alright, you can do it! Right?
Tapping your finger to keep yourself grounded, you start hyper-analyzing the menu that was adorning the side of the wooden table. But, it wasn’t working…
Barely managing to whimper out a sentence, you alert the party that you were going to use the restroom. Hastily, yet carefully, sliding out of your chair, you rush toward the front of the room, making a beeline for the front door.
Pushing the heavy, glass doors open, you found a secluded area and slid down the wall. Grasping the collar of your shirt, you attempted to heave out breaths to no avail. Tears flooded your vision as your head pounded from the lack of breath entering your lungs.
In the midst of the darkness, a gentle hand was placed on your shoulder, so lightly as if the person doing so didn’t want to startle you.
“Hey, I’m right here.” A hushed voice cooed, “You don’t have to do this alone, you know.”
As it turns out, Oikawa had noticed your speed to escape, and instantly knew you needed help. Excusing himself to take a phone call, he rushed outside as well.
“ ‘K-Kawa? Wha’ you doing-” You grimaced, every word a labor.
“No no, shhh. Don’t talk yet, take a minute.”
You nodded and closed your eyes, hanging your head low between your legs.
“Aht aht, no. You can’t put your head down like that, you know this.” His hand gently touched your chin to pull it upward. “You can do this, I know you can.”
“Mnh, h-hurts…” you whimper.
“I know, honey. I know.” Oikawa carefully takes your hand, brushing his thumb over the knuckles, “is it alright if I hug you?”
After pondering for a second, you hesitantly nod. The brown-haired male slowly enveloped you in his arms, cradling you as carefully and lovingly as possible. “There we go, hang on to me.”
You obliged to his instructions, resting your head on his shoulder and tracing shapes into his back with your finger.
“You can’t forget to breathe, (Y/N).” Oikawa’s cooing voice was a gentle reminder of your ultimate goal: not asphyxiating.
The setter’s hand rested on your back, rubbing in a careful pattern. “I’ve got you, you’re safe, I promise you that whatever is in your head right now is not going to harm you. We are in no immediate danger, I assure you.” His voice was like honey, sweet and delicate, as reassurances flowed from his lips.
After a few more minutes, your breathing had leveled, and your vision had returned. You sigh tiredly, and un-tense your body, slumping into his shoulder.
“There they are, welcome back.” The brunette chimed as he brought his other hand up to cradle the back of your head. “Is this okay? Do you need to be held a little longer?”
Cuddling up to him, you smiled and sighed in content, “yes please… m’sorry I made you miss your birthday dinner.”
“Mm it’s actually quite the contrary, (Y/N). The boys think I’m making a phone call, and if know those three, Iwa-chan will still be trying to keep the feral children under control right now.”
You chuckled and closed your eyes once more. “Thank you, Tooru.” You whispered.
“Anytime, (Y/N).” Oikawa replied, gently kissing the crown of your head.
By the time you re-entered the restaurant, you noticed that he was in fact correct. Poor Iwaizumi was currently trying to keep Mattsun from dying at the hands of Makki.
The two of you wordlessly slipped back into your seats at the table, and Oikawa shot you a supportive wink and a smile.
While your panic attacks do come out of nowhere, and completely derail your plans, you’re forever thankful for your best friend that helps put you back on track.

It’s sort of funny how some things can lead to great friendships.
When your panic attack hit, you didn’t even know Kuroo that well, you just ended up in a study group together.
Leave it to your teacher to give you the biggest test of the year right when you’re having trouble in his class…
When you voiced your troubles to your best friend, Yaku, he immediately suggested that the two of you form a study group for the exam.
With snacks and drinks lining the table, gentle music playing from someone’s phone, and a variety of colored, dry erase markers, your group was ready to go.
At first, an hour went by with no issues. You were confidently answering questions and getting them correct. However, when you answered your first question wrong, something changed within.
Your confidence left and you suddenly went radio silent. Even if you knew the answer, you didn’t try to speak up. This did not go unnoticed by Kuroo.
As the minutes passed, little things began to develop.
The words on your paper became a staticy blur, each letter being distorted by your slowly tunneling vision. Your tongue felt heavy in your mouth as the rest of your body broke out into a cold sweat.
Above all else, you were having a bit of trouble getting air in. You couldn’t risk speaking, but you couldn’t be in the room any longer. Wordlessly, you stood up from your chair and rushed out of the door.
Once you were safely outside of the library, you instantly plopped down in the grass, flat on your back, gasping for air. You couldn’t breathe, and it was scaring you. Tears rushed to your squeezed-shut eyes as heavy weights pounded atop of your chest.
After about fifteen seconds of solitude, you heard hasty crunching from the grass below you. “Hey, (Y/N), you have to sit up.”
You recognized the voice… where had you-
“You’ll never get any airflow like that. Sit up with your back straight.”
Regardless, you obliged. You insecurely positioned yourself upright as the smallest amount of air returned to your lungs.
“Good job.” The voice praised. “Is it alright if I sit behind you? I won’t touch you yet if you aren’t comfortable.”
You hesitantly nodded your head, still finding yourself panting and choking on your sobs.
There wasn’t even a moment’s worth of hesitation in the sudden action. The person sat behind you, legs open, with you seated in between them.
“Here’s how we’re gonna do this.” The voice began, “Tap my right knee once for yes, twice for no. Okay?”
You tapped his right knee, mind starting to slowly unfog.
“Can I touch you yet? Are you comfortable with that?”
At this point, you were ready for the panic attack to stop, you didn’t care how. You gently tapped the person’s right knee one time.
Carefully, you were pulled flush against the person talking to you. You immediately noticed the sleek material of a windbreaker… “K-Kuroo?” You croaked.
“Yeah, it’s me.” He replied, gently taking your hand, “But don’t speak yet, you need to get your breathing under control.”
You nodded and laid your head on his shoulder, loosening the tension in your eyelids. From then on, you focused on taking a breath.
“Easy does it… nice and slow…” the male whispered, gently rubbing his thumb across your knuckles. “Do you mind if I rest my hand over your heart? This works well for my little sister.”
With a staggered sigh, you tapped his knee once. What did you have to lose?
Kuroo slowly brought his hand up to the left side of your chest. “Here we go. I’m gonna start with my pointer finger, then rest my whole hand flat.”
The black-haired male did just as he said, and shockingly, you felt the weight from your chest disappearing.
You quickly began to gasp in air greedily, panting heavily as the oxygen finally returned to your lungs
“Ah, welcome. back.” Kuroo cooed, “Do you want me to let go? Or do you need more time?”
“More time…” you whispered, letting your head fall into the crook of his neck. “Sorry…”
“Nothing to be sorry about. This is completely natural. This was your brain’s way of telling you that something was off. I’m just glad that I knew what was happening, because everyone else sure as hell didn’t.”
“I’m glad that I was able to help you calm down. I know how awfully scary these can be. You probably felt like you were going to pass out back there… didn’t you?”
You nodded with a sniffle as all of the fears on your mind finally came out in the form of tears.
Kuroo carefully turned you around in his hold, maneuvering himself to hold you securely by the waist, and to have another hand running through your hair.
“It’ll be alright, let it out. You’re safe with me.“
So, you did.
