okay but what about robots in disguise?? its not a favorite of mine but it’s still pretty good. russel and his dad are decent lol
Frag that show.
It disrespected TFP on every level and for that it has my eternal hatred and contempt. The humans were annoying, and I HATED how many interesting plot threads there were that were either done poorly or with so little tact that the writing team should have just scrapped it. The designs are tolerable, but I hate how canon TFP characters lost so much of their individuality in their designs (coughtheopticscough). Smokescreen is fricking GONE, which bothers me more than I care to admit. We see the rest of the team enough to be reasonable, but they all appear in ways that don't really make me happy.
Ratchet was done well enough in my opinion. I like his RID design. It suites him. Optimus's design can go die in a hole, they brutalized that mech. Same with Jazz. Frag those stupid shoulder pads.
Grimlock is fun, I appreciate Sideswipe, although his helm hair thingies I think need a redesign to make sense in relation to his alt mode. Strongarm was HORRIBLY underutilized and I hardly saw any character growth in her. Drift and his crew were interesting, but similarly not given much room to grow. I really liked Windblade for the most part, especially the episode where she tries to baby Optimus and comes out having relearned that Op is still a PRIME with MILLIONS OF YEARS OF WAR EXPERIENCE.
The Primes who've done nothing but sit on their rears had NO RIGHT to belittle Optimus at every turn. Nor did the show have the right to make him an idiot for the sake of making Bee look smarter. As @nova--spark has pointed out, the personality Bee got in the show matches Smokescreen better. Bumblebee wouldn't have SUCKED so much at the whole leadership shtick. What happened to all that skill shown in the movie huh? HUH WRITING TEAM????!??!?!
While I am on this train. OPTIMUS DIED SO GOSH DARN LEAVE HIM ALONE!!! He should have stayed deceased, or if they REALLY needed him back, he should have either returned as an Civi or came back with actual issues. Like dang hear me out mate.
Optimus is forcefully returned to life, beats the Fallen with his borrowed power, but then has to actually deal with the consequences of essentially being a walking bomb for a while. Make him start losing plating, make his frame HURT, make him slim down again into the TFP base design. Just, give him a reason to have to sit back and RECOVER. Not this whole half hearted limping around garbage. To add to that, don't baby the mech. Let him stay at base and fulfill the role Ratchet did in TFP. Let him use his knowledge to teach and offer wisdom, plan battles and locate enemies. For Primus's sake he could have gone undercover on Cybertron or something if they really needed him to go be useless elsewhere.
THEY COULD HAVE EVEN HAD AN ARC WITH HIM GIVING THE TEAM A WAKEUP CALL!!! SIdeswipe has no respect for the mission, Grimlock is a fool, Strongarm is too snarky, and Bee in this seems to have largely forgotten about the seriousness except for during key moments. They could have made Optimus a minor antagonist, forcing the team to follow wartime standards since they laid down this plot thread regarding issues between leadership styles and Optimus trying to take control of the operation more than once.
I would have paid money to see Optimus's wartime mentality show itself in the best and worst ways through how he worked with this group of non war vets on a Decepticon capture mission. Maybe even have him use lethal force once or twice, or at least hint at it so that people can be reminded that he is a mech who went to war, killed countless bots, and both drove their people to and saved their people from extinction.
Bee could have had to teach Optimus to calm down. He could have helped eased his leader out of his wartime mindset. Or following that whole council running Cybertron route, Optimus could have had his moment of being very much right when he points out WHY he fought at all and gestures towards the new council. There was SO MUCH potential in this show, so many good threads and interesting Decepticon character that could have given so much depth to the war and the aligned continuity as a whole, but they were almost ALL ignored.
*deep breath*
Alright, sorry about that. I have big feelings in regards to how dirty Optimus was done. Moving on, the Predacons were killed off supposedly and that pisses me off ESPECIALLY because it was done in a fricking offscreen setting. What the hell happened to Predaking??? WHERE DID HE GO????
Starscream's design was rad though, not going to lie.
Where is Shockwave? No seriously where is that fragger? After several years of the map he MUST have an army growing in a tank somewhere.
Soundwave. Why. ARe. YOU. HERE??!?!?!? I love you man but dang you are so out of place. He made sense in the context of trying to get to Megatron, but idk he felt like he deserved better. He should have been the big brain behind the Cons on Earth if you asked me. It would have made everything far more intense, especially if the Cons dont follow Decepticon creed as seen by Soundwave.
The humans were annoying. Sorry they just were.
Fixit is Primus's gift to RID and he's one of the few individuals who makes it less annoying. Idk, I just like him in reasonable doses.
WHERE ARE THE TFP KIDS?! WHY HAS BEE NOT CALLED THEM?? GOOD HEAVENS THERE IS A WHOLE SUBPLOT RIGHT THERE!!!
*yet another deep breath*
Apologies.
To put things simply, I would rather a group of fanfic writers put RID together than whoever the writing team was. They could have made a coherent story with deep characters that actually address the ramifications of millions of years of war and lingering functionalist mindsets. They would have done the lore and the world justice even if there were no main characters popping up.
I think RID has so much potential, but that almost all of it went right down the toilet due to either the higher ups sticking their noses where they don't belong or because the writing team couldn't go two minutes without retconning or otherwise destroying established everything.
Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

Nouvelle Crown - 25 : Daisies (Youth)
synopsis : choi beomgyu, the second prince of the royal choi family doesnt have much of a life outside of his duties. even then hes not allowed to do much, his brother is the crown prince after all. but when he meets you, a regular commoner girl, through his brothers friend soobin he cant help but be intrigued. commoner life is so different from what he knows and you are the only person to treat him like the normal teenager he always longed to be. with you he gets to experience the normal, teenager life behind the backs of his overbearing family.
Tumblr media
you and beomgyu had been dating for a few weeks now and your friends found you two absolutely insufferable. any chance you got you would hang out, beomgyu sneaking out way more than he should. but thankfully, things in his personal life were getting better. his parents were becoming more lenient (thanks to a whole lot of convincing from the princes and the queen).
today, for the first time, beomgyu was coming to meet you during the day! just you, not pretending to go to kais or any of the other tricks you two had been pulling just to see each other. he had begged and begged, promising to do lots of favors (he wouldnt tell you what they were) and promising to be good if there was any press. it took a while, but the king finally let him leave to meet you, strictly making a guard come with and wait outside of your house while beomgyu was inside. but beggars cant be choosers, so youll take what you can get.
so thats what led you to this moment, you rushing around your room to make sure everything is in order while nervously smoothing down your hair. your room isnt dirty after you cleaned it so well before he came but you still move stuff as if its going to do something. you cant help it, its his first time coming to a commoner home after all! not only do you want to make a good impression with your home, but youre also nervous because soobin has been very ominous and vague recently, saying beomgyu was planning something. now knowing your boyfriend it could easily be something silly that he thought was monumental just like the time he bought you something from the store.
"..this is what you were so nervous about?" you asked, taking the drink and candies beomgyu had bought you before looking up at him with furrowed brows. he looked so cute, hands held together and eyes anticipating something.
"of course it is!" he exclaimed in response, leaning closer to point at each object. "see i got you candy and a drink, just like the boys do in the dramas when they like someone."
you stared at him for a few seconds before bursting out laughing, hugging the gifts close to your chest as he stared at you with a confused look. "gyu.. gyu its just something in the movies silly. its not that big of a deal in real life... gosh you really have absolutely no dating experience." you giggle and his face instantly turns red out of embarrassment.
so when the doorbell rang and you ran downstairs to go answer the door, you kept telling yourself that it wont be much. itll just be beomgyu being silly again.
"yn! i missed you." was the first thing beomgyu said as he immediately wrapped his arms around you, pulling you close with a cute smile. behind him is a bodyguard, just blankly standing there. you return the hug, a bit unnerved by the bodyguard watching and beomgyu seems to notice. "lets.. go inside" you laugh a bit and bring him inside, slowly closing the door in case the bodyguard needed to come inside. he didnt.
beomgyu looked around your house curiously, he had never been inside a home so small before. yet he thought it was cute and small, something comfortable. it wasnt polished and shining like the castle was but he liked the knickknacks and things around the house. it felt lived in and like a home, feeling warm unlike the coldness of the castle.
"your home is so cute" beomgyu says, smiling before looking down at you. hes a bit awkward, cutely standing there and clasping his hands together in front of his body and standing straight. he looks almost out of place in your doorway, his clothes just a bit too fancy.
"im glad.. i was worried" you then take his clasped hands, pulling one away to hold his hand and bring him to your bedroom. he immediately locks your hands together and happily follows, almost like a puppy. his head whips around to take in the new scenery as he follows you.
you immediately lay down on your bed once you reach your room but beomgyu awkwardly stands by it, making you chuckle softly and pat the bed. so he hesitantly lays down beside you, eyes widening when you roll over to lay your head on his chest and rest an arm over him. his faces begins to flush red before he brings a hand up to run his fingers through your hair.
"honestly theres not a lot to do here but i thought we could watch a movie." you say, picking up the remote and glancing up to see if he agrees. hes looking down at you with a smile, looking absolutely enamored by you before nodding.
and thats how your movie marathon started. you and beomgyu cuddled up together on your small bed, watching whatever movie you took turns picking.
around the 2nd movie you glanced up at him and its like the wind got knocked out of you. beomgyu is just so beautiful. the tv would sparkle in his eyes and he just looked so cozy in the dim lighting of your room. his side profile was breathtaking and suddenly its like you were watching him instead of the movie. the small quirks of his face since he was just so expressive, eyebrows twitching and lips tilting up whenever something was remotely funny. then, you see his eyes slide over to look at you and a beautiful smile spreads across his face and he turns his head to look straight at you. now you were a weak, weak woman.. what were you supposed to do when such a pretty guy was looking at you like that, eyes sparkly and a breathtaking smile on his face.
you kiss him of course.
you wrap your arms around beomgyus neck, having to scoot further up the bed a bit awkwardly so the kiss is more comfortable which makes him giggle against your lips. his hands land on your waist, gently pulling to help you move up. you two get lost in each others lips, the movie playing in the background no longer being important as you relish in each others touch. by the time you break the kiss, pulling away beomgyus face is a bit flushed and his ears are red.
"cute" you cant help but say, watching in amusement as beomgyus face gets a darker red and he brings his hands up to cover his face.
"leave me alone.." he whines and you can imagine the pout hes hiding behind his hands. it makes you laugh happily, grabbing his wrists and pulling his hands away from his face to press a quick peck to his lips. he looks down at you with sparkly eyes, a fond smile on his blushing face. "if you keep doing this i wont give you the gift i planned.."
you perk up at the promise of a gift, sitting up straight with a smile. "you got me something? really?" you ask, smiling excitedly. you couldnt help it, it wasnt often that you were given gifts by anybody.
beomgyu smiled when he saw your excitement, nodding before reaching into his pocket to pull out a small box and hold it out to you. "here, i got this for you." as he places the box in your awaiting hands you can see the way he immediately stares up at your face to watch for your reaction.
you carefully open the box, pulling off the top to see a silver bracelet sitting inside. theres a pretty charm of a flower on it and you smile, gently taking the bracelet out to look at it closer.
"the flower is a daisy. i thought it was cute and.. well daisies usually represent youth and innocence and i got it because you let me experience my youth. its a little silly..." beomgyu softly explains as he nervously watches you look at the bracelet.
"i love it, it's beautiful. thank you gyu" you immediately say, your heart flutters as you continue to turn the bracelet around in your hands to see every bit of it. the way you resist the urge to squeal makes you feel like a middle schooler with a crush, the gift was just so thoughtful. "help me put it on?"
immediately beomgyu nods and takes the bracelet from your hands, having to lean close to you and squint as he wraps the bracelet around your wrist and clasps it together. once hes finished you both smile as you bring your arm up to look at the bracelet once more.
despite how he could be awkward and inexperienced at times, beomgyu was just the sweetest boyfriend. he seemed nervous to initiate any physical touch but you could easily dismiss it, its not like hes been around many touchy people in his life. but he did his best to make it up for you in the ways he knew how like with thoughtful gifts or sappy little speeches about how much he loves you.
you cant wait until the two of you are older. maybe there are some perks to him being the second prince, he wont be forever chained down to that castle after all.

Juli
I'M BACK (I never left, it just took me a while to respond because I need to think about my answers otherwise I'll ramble on ad infinitum and college beats me eh). I love talking to you so I hope it's not a problem I'll keep asking you stuff about these fascinating characters (The Plinth) and any other topics because I love your ideas and your takes.
About your reply on AO3, I can promise that I will start doing my own HCs on Strabo and Ma and you will be the first person I will show it to when I have written it. I must also say that I agree with you: while ships and romantic relationships are amazing to explore, platonic and familial relationships are just as interesting and deserve to have their fics and hc and analysis within the fandom. (Can we talk about the potential of Lysistrata as a possible friend of Sejanus in canon?)
Before I start with my rant of the movie (it's finally here, another day we will continue with the many other things like the war in Two, First Quarter Quell, etc jsjsjfjs) I come to pass you the link of the fic I mentioned and also to recommend you a new series of fics that recently appeared centered on Baby Sejanus during the war (please tell me what do you think!!!)
1. Bullets Over Two
It is being update I must warn but what is there is for now, is very good!
2. All I Long for is Home (Little Sejanus series)
I really thought it was magical when they sent the link on discord for this series. It has everything we love: Baby Sejanus, studied the dynamics of the Plinth and their experiences during the war!
Speaking of the Plinth. I think its function is both ways: they are clearly the immigrant experience and the difficulties of forced assimilation of coming from another country as identity crises but also USA is a very large nation and as you say, the culture shock within its own territory is enormous and continues to reproduce these dynamics of discrimination.
Ah yes I send you a big hug for the mockery. People really can be cruel. I don't get it, to me it seems like such a nice way to call mothers. 🥺
In my case I'm from the capital but my father is not, he came from a state and has told me a couple of truly traumatic experiences about the problem of fitting in. Ah
But well. The time has come for the rant.
First I would like to clarify that I loved the movie. Great cast, great direction, costumes and cinematography. The soundtrack is a fucking work of art. Iconic enough that I will forgive them for not adapting the snowjanus song from the book. I also think Coriolanus and Lucy Gray had more than satisfying and well done arcs.
In fact there were some changes to the story they made in the movie that seem to me to be great additions or reinterpretations of the text (Example. making Felix the president's son, killing him and having Dr. Gaul use his death to interrupt Reaper's act of direct rebellion -another change that as you can see I am into it-, Tigris serving with that line "You look like your father, Coriolanus", etc).
I don't have a problem with any of that. My big conflict comes down to their portrayal of the Plinth and the Academy students (I'm mostly talking about Clemensia but I didn't limit myself to her). As I said before the absence of the Plinth (Ma and Strabo) seems problematic to me, because they will be the worst crime of Coriolanus. They are the proof of how many limits he is willing to cross to get to power while being the force that is able to allow him to fulfill those ambitions. It's fucked up and very necessary to show in order to understand Snow.
I understand that the time was probably here what contributed to the fact that we only got to see them in a small cameo but gosh I think one scene. One little scene they could have given us. Besides it wouldn't have been a waste, because a lot of information about the Snow's we found out in relation to the Plinth.
What can I say?, I just feel sad every day that we don't have the scene of Coriolanus and Strabo talking in the movie. It's such a short but intense conversation.
With Sejanus my biggest complaint is that because the involvement of his family and family history is almost nonexistent, viewers of the film alone don't know a lot of much needed facts about who he is to see his nuances and there were changes that worked against reflecting his character as well as his situation.
The most extreme example that we have discussed before is the Sandwiches scene. In the movie, the credit is taken away from Sejanus, who was the only one to be concerned about the welfare of the tributes in the book. He was the first to try to approach them not to put on a show like Coriolanus but to try to offer them dignified treatment.
That Sejanus brought so much food. That he did not give up even though at the beginning no tribute wanted to approach and in the end his thing with Marcus will not be settled are actions that speak a lot about who he is. Since such actions don't take place in the film, it leaves an incomplete understanding of the character (which leads people in tiktok to have the worst takes on him in the world).
But this doesn't just happen with poorly executed scenes, it's present even in well done scenes like Sejanus responding to Arachne's bad comments. While it's a scene I adored and establishes well that Sejanus and his fellow academy members live in very different worlds, I don't think it quite captures Sejanus' situation well.
Although inferred, in reality outside of disagreements of opinion there is little in the film that if you don't know the context of the book, tells you very clearly that Sejanus has been harassed and bullied by his classmates for over a decade and the true extent of the hostility of the environment to him.
Which in part doesn't quite capture the reason for his desperation. Equally influential is that Sejanus begins with a higher pitch of protest in the films rather than the escalating spiral he faces in the book.
Now about the Sandwiches scene, I think we can all agree that it is made to make Coriolanus look much better than he acted in that particular situation and ultimately impacts along with other subtle changes in his behavior to make the character a more gentle and selfless version than his book counterpart.
And as you rightly said Juli, Sejanus is not the only character who is prevented from showing his virtues to 100, to favor the image of Coriolanus. This happens in fact with all the students of the academy. Especially with Clemensia.
I wanted to talk about Lysistrata but I feel the same problem with her as with the Plinth: they are practically nonexistent, and it is striking that the other character who genuinely showed concern for her tribute, sought to give him a humane treatment and was not particularly in favor of the games, was almost eliminated.
But I'll go with Festus. Who like other characters in TBOSAS - THG is a greyscale. He'll say wild and clearly poorly thought out things like suggesting the use of capital punishment and brute force to get more people to watch the games but he's also a kid who mourns the death of Arachne, the twins, eats at all hours, is funny, and told Clemensia she was cruel for not wanting to send food to her tribute. And he had a kind of connection with Coral.
According to Coriolanus he was also one of the few people who liked Sejanus more than the average student at the academy. Which says something about his persona, but more importantly in Coryo's own words.
Festus was his best friend and I was quite surprised at the kind of focus they gave him in the movie because not only is there more focus on his flaws but his moments with Coriolanus are more sparse. You wouldn't think they were friends. Again I'm not 100% complaining about that alteration and I can understand where it comes from (it was to give more focus on snowjanus "friendship") but here we have a character who to a lesser extent is reduced to being a mentor who doesn't treat his tribute with gentleness unlike Coriolanus and who seems to not be his friend. Just his classmate.
Which brings us to Clemensia. Who I think is worthy of a place in the "I was close to Coriolanus Snow and he ruined my life" club. I think people underestimate the weight of Coriolanus' actions when he decides to put himself first. When he decides to put her aside to ensure his own survival.
Clemmie is one of Snow's closest friends. And their relationship is the least complex compared to other important relationships in Coryo's life. Which I think is something that promotes the strength of their bond, as Dovecote is genuinely just a friend that Coriolanus spends time with.
It's not as wearing and multi-layered as his love hate Sejanus. Like the conflicts Lucy Gray stirs up and it's nowhere near as torturous as his relationship with Tigris. Coriolanus genuinely cares for her and they seem to understand each other well but this is what I think makes her the first victim.
I can't really say that Coriolanus will act badly in the whole situation. It was Gaul at the end of the day who did most of the damage; demanding that rehearsal from them even when Arachne died, lying to Clemensia to send a message to Snow.... But it is the turning point. Because Coriolanus is faced with a crossroads, what happens with Clemensia forces him to acknowledge what he has always known.
The Capitol does not care about protecting its people. The Capitol is cruel and oppressive. The Capitol subjugates them. He can't rely on institutions or adults to protect him.
And I can't blame him for his reaction, but it is his reaction that makes him complicit. He decides not to protest, not to argue, not to tell and not even to try to take care or to know about Clemensia once she disappears. He does it to ensure his own survival. To take care of his family in theory and other things but it is that point of fall where the debate opens up within him as to why his actions and what he is willing to leave behind in order to survive.
He runs away from her, unable to face the horror of his own inability to act or do anything else for Clemensia and while he awkwardly apologizes, for leaving his friend behind, it was this event that marks this point of who else he is capable of leaving alone as soon as they "become a threat" to his interests.
So I don't understand for the life, why they didn't shoot the scene of her in the hospital with snake scales? Clemensia and Coriolanus' arc IS VITAL. And removing it was a huge mistake, not only that, but changing Clemmie's attitude to make it look like she "deserved" what dr. Gaul did. It was honestly the worst decision. It just doesn't make sense. And I mean that in all seriousness. They didn't even complete her story *scream*.
But well, who I am to complain... On a happier note our beautiful LATAM AU. 🤭 Of course, Sejanus is the one who fights with Strabo every time there is a family reunion. His cousins try to eat at the speed of light before Sejanus starts saying things against the pigs politics who exploit people and Strabo tells him he's a dumb anarchist and stop questioning everything and then they start yelling at each other and have to take the kids somewhere else 😭😭😭
By the way it would be funny if Sejanus, is disinherits by his dad every christmas and he's like "I don't even care about your dirty money" but Coriolanus DOES CARE so he scolds him every time he says that and tries to talk some sense into him although the odds are also very high that he tried to convince Strabo to make him his heir instesd of Sejanus by chatting with him in the yard JAJSJSJSJSIS
Arg Coryo is good because Tigris has an album and a copy of that album with pictures of him dressed as a chick for a dance and other horrors. AND SIIII YOU UNDERSTAND VESTA IS THAT MOTHER WHO CAN DANCE EVERYTHING.
Rip Coryo and his two left feet. He let himself be led but was a very embarrassing companion for someone like Vesta who moves with grace. Sejanus offers to give him lessons so he doesn't make a fool of himself again at parties jsjsjshs
GOD IS CANON. LGB WOULD DEFINITELY GIVE HIM A NASTY POLITICAL CAMPAIGN SHIRT to (make fun of him). Also she has permanently threatened Coriolanus that if he is ever an unacceptable jerk again, she will funar him on social media 💀
STRABO IS THAT KIND OF DAD JSJSJS HE LOVES TELENOVELAS HE JUST REFUSES TO ADMIT IT BUT IT'S SO OBVIOUS. Imagine Sejanus and Coryo discussing telenovela villains and someone gets a fact wrong and Strabo is like "but this actually happened..." and saying he knows because Vesta told him but everyone knows that in his office he watches telenovelas in secret LMAO
About the daddy issues. This the scene
This is getting long already but I think daily about Coriolanus and Strabo's talk and then that time Coriolanus realizes he's acting like Strabo with Sejanus. Damn. I just know that if we would have had a snowjanus + strabo encounter. THAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED I SWEAR JSKSLS
😭😭
Coryo: Don't yell Mr. Plinth at Sejanus he is just trying to help...
5 minutes later:
Strabo: But don't give him the order yelling, young Snow, you should know Sejanus is sensible...
3 minutes later:
*both of them yell at Sejanus*
Sejanus: This is normal yes :)
Oh. I forgot my song.
1. New song sejarcus certified and yes it's an accurate portrayal of Strabo's father. Its crazy.
2. European Mexican warning: but I need you to see the video of Rosalia - millionaria + Dio$ nos libre del dinero. It's two songs that share one video and there's something there about Coriolanus and Sejanus and their relationship with money. Ehh
Now I will shut up for the moment.
HIII!!! I absolutely understand and 0 judgements bc I'll spend hours just writing a single answer bc time is needed (specially bc I'm a tad bit slow thinking in english 😭) also, good luck with college!! and aaaaaa I love talking to you, this is really sweet, feel free to ask or say anything, I'll be more than happy 🥹
YESSSSS PLS I'm now anxious to hear your thoughts, can't wait for them!!! I stand by the fact that ships are lovely, but there's a big lack of exploration for platonic dynamics and it's painful (and I say that as a platonic bairdplinth truther, snow can go to hell, let these two bond and be such an iconic duo). and yessssss I love lysistrata sm :( every single time her character appeared, all I could think was "omg why couldn't sejanus get closer to her instead of getting close to coriolanus?". there's just so much POTENTIAL here
YESSSS HERE COMES THE (DESERVED) RANT!! but about the fics: thank you sooooo much for sending the links!!! I bookmarked the first to read later, but the second, I've read the first work of the series when it was posted and it's SO GOOD <333 it's genuinely one of my favorite works that I've read recently, and I love how the author wrote bby sejanus' perspective regarding the war
yessss!! I'm not an usa expert (bc, well, I never lived there), but I've seen some interesting takes from people who are from there, but more specifically, are from the appalachian region; and these people were talking about how there's this whole view of people from that region being "uneducated" and other things (and how important it is that D12 is located in this region; I'm not sure if in the movie lucy gray have an appalachian accent because I SUCK at recognizing accents in english except for the texan one, but I know that when suzanne collins read a passage of the book out loud, someone pointed out that she gave lucy gray an appalachian accent).
(this also hits harder when there's a passage in the book where sejanus says him and lucy gray are very alike regarding this, not being able to fit in anywhere, except she had talent 💔)
thank you, this is really kind 🫶 some people will just be ignorant for no reason, just for the joy of being ignorant. and I'm sorry about the things your father went through :(
but okay, let's go to talk about the movie:
absolutely agree!! the movie is GOOD. straight up good. and as an adaptation, there are a few things I think they actually did better than the book:
the whole game, in general. I think the rythm got much more dynamic than it is in the book. I understand the book's purpose, but as a reader, it's slow. the changes made it more interesting and it worked in movie-form a lot.
the whole scene with reaper and the panem flag not only is gorgeous and strong and impactful, but it's so well-adapted, I just- I was really at a loss of words, because it IS much better than the book, imo.
wovey dying from the snakes instead of lucy gray poisoning her. it was an impactful scene that made me feel hopeless and horrible watching. even though the book is brutal, this death specifically made the movie much more brutal to me. that was a child begging to go home.
as you said, making felix being the one who got killed during the bombs. it just made more sense and it was gaul's perfect excuse. and it also makes us question more things: is it one child's life worth the life of 24 children?
but when it comes to coriolanus... oh boi. I have thoughts.
(before we get into it, it's worth saying tom blyth did an amazing job with the text he got; the forest scene was TERRIFYING, it made me genuinely scared and tense when watching it at the theater. plus, he has this constant look that just unsettles you. it makes you sense that there's something wrong with this boy, even though you can't really put your finger on what exactly. if there's such a thing as a perfect actor for coriolanus, that's tom blyth, no doubt.)
now, this is a feeling I personally have: the movie is an action dystopian movie. it would obviously want to appeal to this public, including people who never read the book in first place. so, to appeal more to the general hollywood public, they adapter coriolanus' character to be more of an underdog who goes through some sort of corruption arc. he's not an indocrinated, bigoted boy who thinks himself to be superior, who grows more and more power hungry, and this leads him to do things that are more and more horrible. in the movie, he's an ambitious boy, yes, but who goes through traumatic things and famine, and who, in the end, chooses himself in order to survive.
now, let's say the writers want to change this character to make him more appealing to the big public; after all, who would like watching someone like coriolanus thinking the things he think, specially about district people? and the way they seemed to do it was by not changing the core story, but omitting and toning down elements that make coriolanus seem much worse.
the plinths are definitely the most problematic of these characters who got omitted or toned down. the end in the film is not near as impactful as in the book. he killed their child. their only son. and then he comes back and acts as if he did nothing. he knew how much sejanus' mom loved him, then he kills her son and proceeds to call that boy's mom MA. he was SO sick for that. stealing someone's life is already bad, but there's so many layers that the more you look into it, the worst it gets. it's essential to understand that atp of the story, there's no turning back, because he isn't able to feel remorse anymore. he just doesn't care, and this is extremely important to know that THIS is the snow we know in the future. this is the snow that do horrible things to children, that mercilessly kills his opponents. that's how far he's willing to go.
I agree with you regarding the time, specially because the movie was already very long, but they could've given us one scene. at least one. if they inserted, for example, ma plinth going to talk to coriolanus abt sejanus being missing, I think it would already add a great impact (of course the scene of sejanus' death screaming for his ma is heartbreaking by itself, but when you know the context, when you see how close they were in the book, it's just MUCH WORSE, MY GOD). or in the end, a little scene with coriolanus and strabo talking abt coriolanus being their heir would already do a lot for the storytelling (I also think that was left a bit ambiguous in the movie).
(I also adore that scene of strabo and coriolanus, it gives us a lot of insight and I would've adored to have it adapted 💔)
sejanus in the book is a complex character that has a lot of nuances, and that's why I like him so much. when you look through coriolanus' lens, you won't really understand how depressing his situation is. coriolanus just looks to the fact that sejanus have money and is financially privileged, but mostly ignores the fact that the capitol is hostile to the plinths (coriolanus himself is hostile to the plinths! he doesn't say it aloud bc, well, he's coriolanus, but it's still there in his narration, and the way he talks about them), and sejanus was relentlessly bullied through his whole childhood growing up. he had no friend and not really a support network besides his ma. he was utterly alone in an environment that hated him, hated where he came from, hated his family. and he still turned out kind. and we see this in details through the book; the sandwich scene is the most significant, as you said, and it PAINS me that they cut it out, bc reading it, it was when it was clear to me that what coriolanus says about sejanus is not really reliable. sejanus brought food not only to marcus, he brought food to ALL the tributes. he wanted ALL of them to have something to eat. and he really didn't need to do it.
another thing that was poorly executed was that they basically got rid of the fact that he was suicidal. in the movie, it seemed like a naive kid thinking dying on that arena would be a good act of protest (which wouldn't be at all, as we all know it wouldn't be broadcasted). in the book, the whole thing regarding it being a form of protest is more secondary, because that boy was straight up trying to kill himself, and if it actually ended as some sort of protest, then it would be just a side thing. sejanus was in so much pain that he really thought that the only way he could make up to marcus was by dying, and then, after this whole thing, (if I remember right, but I may be remembering wrong) he had to be on sedatives because of how stressful and traumatic the situation was. and sejanus says AGAIN later in the book that he was planning to kill himself. it makes the whole rebel plan have much more sense, because OF COURSE sejanus wouldn't care it's dangerous, he doesn't seem to care about his life at all, he would know the risks and do it anyway, while in the movie it just seemed impulsive and (again) naive. and talking about the rebel plan, this is such a tiny details but it drives me insane how they changed the fact that in the book, he KNEW about the guns and he GOT THEM PURPOSELY, and this actually changes a lot how the public can view his character.
and as you said, all these changes lead to people on tiktok having the WORST takes on him, and I can't even judge them 100%, bc in the movie (imo) they DID make him much more spoiled and naive than he is in the book 😭
to wrap up my thoughts regarding sejanus because I talk too much: sejanus' arc is not one easy to the general estadounidense audience relate to unless you went through some similar experience, but when you did go through some similar experience, it hits HARD. and the book worked this very well, where in the movie, I swear some people I know that never read the book didn't even remember that he was district. it was very poorly worked, they toned down his character a lot, and it just doesn't sit right with me.
but now, let's talk about the academy students:
one thing that I find interesting in tbosas is that even though coriolanus is the worse, we can't really blame it on being from the capitol, because we DO see characters from the capitol who have the ability of being selfless and have empathy. and that makes you realize that, yeah, even though coriolanus is a product of his environment... it's still not justifiable, because we see good kids at the academy who aren't bigoted like him.
lysistrata is the BIGGEST of these examples. even though we see coriolanus being nice to lucy gray, we also read his thoughts and he mostly sees her as a possession, a thing to be possessed, not a human being. he barely sees her as equal. and we have lysistrata, who forms a genuine bond with jessup. there's a scene that I find really remarkable in the book. one of the academy students (I'm not really sure who, but I think it was hilarius) comments, in response to lysistrata saying jessup is a protector, that jessup is almost like "a loyal dog". and lysistrata immediately says that no, not like a dog. like a human being. like a protector. and lysistrata was born and raised in the capitol, she probably never got any contact with the districts, her family for sure have a lot of money for her to study in the academy... and she sees jessup as human. not as a possession, but as human. and they got almost completely rid of her character, and it really did make it seem like coriolanus was the only capitol-born kid who wasn't particularly cruel or xenophobic (when it's quite the contrary lol).
we barely see festus in the movie, and when we see, it's just him being kind of a prick (and I don't really understand why focusing on him being a prick specifically; there were other academy characters who would've served this purpose well; why, of all the academy students, pick right the one that was not hostile to sejanus? it genuinely got me confused, like, why, leave him alone 😭). I can absolutely see why they didn't focus on festus and coriolanus' screentime, and I'm also okay with it, but what bothers me is that changing him into just another academy student who's pretty much cold to his tribute removes the nuance of the story (in the book, we see plenty of academy students bonding with their tributes and feeling bad when they die, we see they are indocrinated privileged kids but who can still learn to be better and do better and unlearn all their bigotry; while in the movie, it sounds more like, academy students = bad, coriolanus = good).
clemensia DOES deserve her own small seat at the "coriolanus snow ruined my life" table alongside with sejanus, lucy gray and tigris 😭 I think she's very much forgotten when we talk about the people coriolanus hurt
coriolanus did clemensia so wrong.... of course it's not as bad or complex as he did to lucy gray, but as the book progresses, coriolanus goes down a spiral where the stuff he does to people around him get more and more and more cruel and more nasty and more unjustifiable. clemensia was when that spiral started. he calls her by a nickname, they pretty much grew up together and saw each other around a lot. she probably trusted him. she's a friend, just a friend, not a possession or someone he's straight up jealous of; as you say, it's not as important as the other 3 most important relationships we see in the book (coriolanus and lgb, sejanus and tigris), but it's still a relationship, and if anything, the most innocent and pure one. and also, clemensia DOES have her moments of goodness!!! unlike coriolanus, she's against betting on tributes, and she thinks watching the games is gruesome. of course, compared to all of his victims, clemensia isn't the worst; after all, if anything, dr. gaul is the one to have more guilt here. but he was still wrong for how he reacted to it (she was his friend!!! and he didn't say a thing!!! he puts his survival first and the person he cared about in second), and each victim he makes, the reasons and the motives get less and less justifiable. but overall, I can't really add more thoughts regarding clemensia, because you were pretty much on point, and I agree with EVERYTHING. everything, really.
and also, talking about the movie and how they made her arc incomplete: it really annoys me how they make it implied that she died ("caught a flu" and stuff), but we don't see a funeral, we don't see her friends grieving, we don't see nothing. I don't remember if we even saw her during the games, srsly; I genuinely can't remember, and if she wasn't there, who the hell mentored reaper? they just left him without a mentor and that's it? I can't really remember a case like that in the book, as all the mentors that died also had their tributes dying, so... yeah, clemensia deserved much better, they did her so wrong by making it seem like she deserved it and took profit from coriolanus' work (when in the book, she was actually mad that he wrote the essay because arachne JUST DIED and he's there writing an essay). again, small details, small things, minor characters that are really important to understand how FUCKED UP coriolanus is even to the capitol standards, and they got completely toned down or just changed to make him better and more of an antihero ig.
(in general, loved your thoughts, they were very well put and I basically agree with everything, it should be kind of a requirement to read the book before watching the movie because I can't stand some takes I see on twitter and on tiktok, specially regarding lgb and sejanus; LEAVE THEM ALONEEEEE)
LATAM AU my beloved <33 STRABO CALLING SEJANUS AN ANARCHIST, I'M SCREAMING because this is actually so on character 😭 the plinth family having to start the christmas dinner much before midnight because if they wait for it, they KNOW there'll be no vibe for it because sejanus and strabo are already at each other's throats. ma tried to ban alcohol once, because she thought that if strabo was sober then he would be more mature and not yell with sejanus, but it's no use because sober or not, him and sejanus WILL fight over politics (and it's even worse when it's election year, poor ma is so tired, SHE JUST WANTS A FUN NIGHT not a civil war inside her own house)
PLSSSSSSS every single year strabo going "I'm NOT going to leave my money to you, I don't know who I'm going to leave it, BUT IT'S NOT YOU", and when sejanus talks back, coriolanus is there next to him "babe <3 don't do that <3 I wanna be rich <3 if you don't, that's up to you <3 but I want that good life <3" but the thought of coriolanus trying to convince strabo to make him his heir is also too funny 😭 because strabo would be there slandering sejanus, but when coriolanus tries to slander sejanus too, strabo immediately glares at him and is like "who said you can talk about my son like that? 🤨"
coriolanus being so embarassed because vesta knows how to dance tango while he does not 😭 and imagine it being like on a party, it was the first time sejanus was introducing him to his parents, and coriolanus wanted so bad to make a good impression, just to make a fool of himself in the worst way possible. sejanus thinks it's cute tho when coriolanus goes to him having to put his pride aside to ask sejanus to teach him how to dance (because sejanus is vesta's son, he KNOWS how to dance too, I just know it).
lucy gray having a whole album on her phone just of pics to post online and expose coriolanus if he dares to be a prick again, I know that's right, if he doesn't want to behave by his will, then it'll be by force ☝️ and plus she's supported by tigris
HIM TRYING TO HIDE IT BUT ATP EVERYONE KNOWS IT 😭 and when he talks to sejanus and coriolanus abt it, the conversation lasts long, and he knows a lot of tiny details (because that man is an insane observer, he'll catch the tiniest details and actually guess the finale much before), and then coriolanus stops and goes... "wait, mr. plinth, how do you know all of these stuff?" and he tries to justify it and say that vesta told him, but these are TOO SPECIFIC details, vesta didn't tell him that
okay, so, I watched the scene, and I'M CACKLINGKSKSKSDKKSDKSDKDS I just KNOW that if we got a scene of these three characters together, it would go pretty much like that 😭 it's even more funnier if this is an au (a modern setting), and sejanus takes coriolanus to meet his father, and just then when he puts coriolanus and strabo side to side he realizes that these two are actually TOO alike and he starts to reconsider most of his life choices
EUROPEAN MEXICAN TRIGGER WARNING (I'll never NOT laugh at it, that's historical reparation 😭) but I watched the clip, and YESSSSS you're so right!!!! and again, coriolanus and sejanus serving as a foil to each other and being on opposite ends (specially because in sejanus' case, that money comes from selling guns that kills people and children, that's blood money, and the lyrics just fit him so well)
but anyway, it was amazing hearing your thoughts, hope to see you soon buddie <3 take care!!

Himbo Prince #1
Pairing: Elvis around 1956 or 1957 x reader
Warnings: flirting, stuttering, himbo, goofy, swearing
N/A: While brainstorming possible Elvis fantasies on Discord, we came up with an idea for a goofy fanfic with all our stupid little innocent kinks about Elvis. He’s a goofy insecure himbo alien boy who stutters, pranks everybody, is prone to accidents and woos women at the same time. Beware: English is not my first language, I’ve never been on a movie set, I obviously wasn’t alive in the 1950s, but I’ve seen many movies from that time. There are some Elvis anachronisms but who cares. This is my first fanfic. Be kind.
You can’t believe you have a small part in a movie starring Elvis Presley. He’s only had a few roles so far but everyone’s talking about him. And everybody has seen him singing and doing his gyrations on television I guess. Even your older brother and your mother won’t stop asking you about him.
You already filmed a scene together, but it was a nothing scene. Unfortunately, your characters are not love interests in the movie. Everyone has been pestering you about him: “what is he like?” or “is he nice?”. And yes, he’s nice. And he smiled at you on set when he caught you staring at him for a moment. Obviously you have a crush on him, because every girl has.
Now you’re invited to the same party with the rest of the cast and crew. You spot him immediately. Several girls are giggling among themselves but they don’t have the courage to speak to him. He has his back against the wall, one foot up against it and he’s drinking a Coke. He’s wearing a black shiny shirt, white slacks with a thin belt and black-and-white loafers. He has a couple of rings on his fingers and his impeccable sense of style is evident down to his socks. His sandy blonde hair falls down perfectly on his forehead in messy strands. He looks terrific. He’s trying to look confident, but he’s there all alone. He’s not talking to anyone. You think about it for a minute while you exchange some chitchat with someone, then you go towards him.
You try your best sultry voice with him, a Lauren Bacall impression you didn’t know you had within yourself.
“Hello blondie…”
You’ve wanted to be silly like this with him for a long time. He blushes. You didn’t expect this. He looks down. He passes a hand through his sandy blonde hair. It’s even more ruffled now, with a rebel strand across his forehead. He smiles at you and answers more shyly than you thought he would.
“Oh, hello… uhm… shopgirl?”
You are just a shop girl in the movie, you see, so annoying! You cannot find something witty to tell him straight away because he’s mesmerizing with his unusual looks, so you scoff at his lame joke, but only slightly. Your femme fatale antics only lasted a couple of words. You both stand there in silence for a moment. He moves closer to you. He tries to put you at ease and becomes very serious all of a sudden.
“Have you been in many movies before?” he asks you.
“No, just a couple. In one of them I was a waitress, now I’m a shopgirl.”
You are more relaxed than you thought with him. He’s unassuming, yet there’s an aura around him that you cannot describe.
“Uh, uh.” he nods. “I get nervous with people who have more experience than me. I always think that they see me as a fool who got the main role out of luck.”
“Oh, I don’t think you’re a fool at all.”
“Gosh, this boy is insecure” you say to yourself, but you’re getting distracted because he brings his fingers close to his mouth in a pensive mode. He has really plump rosy lips. How can you carry on a conversation like this? Focus, girl! He carries on his serious talk.
“When we filmed that scene together, I-I thought you looked so serious and committed. I wanted to do my best too.”
You realize he wants to talk about acting and that this is not just a side career for him, so you discuss the movie you’ve been filming together. For as much as he wants to be professional, it’s not long before he starts teasing you about your outfit in the movie.
“Those shopgirl clothes you wear in the scene, uhm, they’re no good. I-I-I think they don’t do you justice. Uhm… y-you sure look nice tonight.”
Sometimes he stutters and mumbles a little when he talks. You’ve noticed that on set. You find it really cute. You look at your dress and your shoes, surprised and rejoiced by his compliment. You took special care tonight to appear at your best, because you knew he would be at the party. You know you look cute.
You go back to talking about movies. He tries to impress you further by explaining: “I’ve always wanted to be an actor. Since I was a child. I want to be one of the good ones though. I don’t know if I can.”
You make a crying face and shout at him, “Elvis, you’re tearing me apart!”
You’ve read in a magazine that he’s a fan of James Dean and you make him laugh with the most famous line from his favorite movie. He has perfect teeth and a beautiful laughter that makes him sound like a small child. Then he’s suddenly serious again:
“Poor Jimmy… Man, I cried when I heard on the radio that he was dead.”
You almost regret having brought up “Rebel Without a Cause” if it makes him sad. You would like to tell him that he reminds you of James Dean, so inexplicably vulnerable and dangerous at the same time, but he probably knows that already.
Maybe he becomes suddenly aware that he’s been leaning against a wall this whole time, because he gestures towards the sofa and you sit down. He sits next to you. No, he’s not sitting on the sofa, he’s slacking, his right arm outstretched on the backrest behind you, his right ankle resting on his knee, his foot moving nervously up and down.
“Good lord, can this boy stand or sit normally?” you say to yourself.
A slow song starts playing on the record player and Elvis finally stops moving his foot. He tilts his head towards you and says:
“W-w-w-w.” He calmly stops, takes a breath, then starts again. “W-would you like to have lunch with me one day?”
You can’t believe what you just heard. He stumbled on his words, but this boy who had his car vandalized, dozens of phone numbers written on it with lipstick or scratched on it with car keys, just asked you out on a date.
You are over the moon, but you try to make meaningful conversation. You ask him if it’s hard to be away from his family for long stretches of time. Again, those magazines came in handy and you know that he’s close to his mother.
After a while, you see a little girl, no more than 13 years old, standing in the middle of the room with a notepad in her hands. She must be the daughter of the party host and she wants an autograph.
She doesn’t move an inch, she doesn’t try to speak and stares at Elvis. She probably doesn’t know how to react to the sight of the boy she constantly talks about in school slacking down on her living room sofa. She’s being so shy that Elvis grimaces at her, a face like he’s an ogre from a fairy tale, then sticks out his tongue at her. He makes the little girl smile and signs the autograph with nonchalance, like he has done this countless times, which he probably has.
“You want a drink?” he asks you, pointing at his Coke bottle. You could drink something, so you accept. He walks away for a moment to get you a bottle. You can see him across the room. He shakes hands with a couple of men from the crew who pat him on the back. You can see he feels a bit embarrassed of all this attention. While he’s opening the Coke bottle for you, a pretty redhead approaches him all cat-like. You watch him from afar while he talks, smiles and even laughs with the girl, all the while holding your Coke bottle. You start tapping your foot, looking around the room to distract yourself. At a certain point the redhead even stamps a kiss on his cheek and Elvis is visibly delighted. They laugh together. Unbelievable! A photographer is going around the room taking pictures and wants to take a picture of him. He slips his hand around the girl’s waist and smiles at the photographer. Finally, after a few minutes he comes back with your Coke, which by the way is not even cold anymore.
“So, first you ask me out and then you go flirt with another girl?” you blurt out. You’re being a bit melodramatic and he quickly answers back with a line from his most recent movie, but he stumbles again:
“It’s the be-be-be, goddamn it, the beast in me!”

It’s been a day...
My gosh, it’s been a day since I finished it and I wish I could go back in time and experience it again. It’s been a long time since I last felt this way about a game or show or movie like this. My goodness though, was this game something special.
I recently played this game called Outer Wilds, which I know I was pretty late for. I mean the game’s three years old now, and I’ve only just now experienced it for the first time. But my God was it an experience that spanned across an entire galaxy of wonders and curiosities. Where the only limit was your own desire to seek out the unknown, and traverse across a galaxy full of information to discover. Knowledge that all came together at the end to create a well written and truly touching story about...
Well, that’s the thing. I can’t talk about it. Outer Wilds is one of those games where its best entered blind as spoilers completely ruin the experience. I’m certainly glad I went in spoiler free. I don’t believe I would have connected as much with the story, as well as with the characters I met along the journey through it. I don’t think I would’ve teared up at the ending, which left me satisfied yet yearning for so much more.
To sit down in the darkened forest by the campfire, and gaze up at the rising smoke. Toasting one last marshmallow till its golden brown, while listening to music playing all around.
Since I’ve allowed myself to finally look at fanarts, I’ve found that a lot of people recommend this game. Now I’m about to join them in saying, if you’ve never played it, don’t look anything up. Just go!
Explore the galaxy! Discover new possibilities! Experience wonder as you seek out answers to every self imposed question you ask yourself along the way. Expand yourself, not through items or unlocked abilities, but through the knowledge you gather from everything you learn. Fall in love with the wilds throughout the galaxy, seek the echoes left behind, and have your breath taken away by a game that is truly inspired by a love for what’s out there and a desire to see it.

🎙📖🌡🐷👻
Can I sing? Not very well, lmao. I can do a pretty good Running Up That Hill, though. A few Evanescence songs as well. I struggle with pitch, though, lol.
My favorite book is Escape From Asylum by Madeleine Roux. It's the first book I read in the Asylum series, which.. I read completely out of order, lol. But that one can stand alone.
My favorite season is Autumn! Spooky movie season, haha.
Junk food I can never get enough of.. soft Oreos, oh my gosh. I thought they stopped making them a while back, but one of our stores just stopped selling them, lol.
I do believe in ghosts, and since I answered this one before in a previous ask, I'll share one of my experiences. I was the only person awake at about 5 AM on a Sunday, playing on my laptop as I do, because I stay up all night right now because my family is loud, lmao. In the middle of whatever I was doing, I heard what sounded distinctly like three or four footsteps in the kitchen and then the refrigerator door shut. I thought maybe my mom had gotten up and I just didn't see her (there's only one hall connecting between the kitchen and bedroom, and it runs right through the living room where I was sitting), so I sat there and waited to see if she would come from the kitchen, but she never did. A few minutes later, she came from the bedroom instead, having just woken up. My dad was still asleep as well. No explanation for that at all, lol. That refrigerator makes a distinct sound when you close it that doesn't compare to any other sounds in the house, so I know for a fact that's what it was.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022) Review
Tumblr media
Who are the bad guys in Top Gun: Maverick? In the film, the recruits for the Navy’s secret mission are told that a “rogue nation” is this close to opening up a new uranium refinery, which will give them nuclear capability. But the rogue nation is never named. So who is the rogue nation? And why can’t we know? Do they even know? Does Tom Cruise know? I bet Tom Cruise knows. Lucky bugger knows everything.
Plot: After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.
Well pardon my pun, but Top Gun: Maverick is simply ace! This is such an adrenaline fuelled, riveting and exciting action film. This is what summer blockbusters are all about, or at least they should be, as I hear the new Jurassic World ain’t got much raptor bite, as those critics are taking up that Jeff Goldblum meme and stating “that’s a big pile of shit”. But hey, you know what isn’t a pile of crap? Top Gun: Maverick! I’m saying this as someone who isn’t a major fan of the original. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with the first Top Gun, its a typical cheesy 80s action flick filled with one liners and elongated love scenes (oh yeah, we all had to sit through that one!), but I only watched it for the first time around 5 years ago, so obviously not having that nostalgic factor or having experienced it when it first came out made it a fairly forgettable experience.
However with Top Gun: Maverick, the best way I can describe it is its Top Gun for our modern generation. As in a nutshell its basically the same film as the first, as its got that 80s cheese factor, belting out Kenny Loggins’ ‘Danger Zone” right from its opening moment as planes waltz off an air carrier to daft macho contrivances as a bunch of guys with their tops off play volleyball on the beach, that’s all in this one. Yet there’s also the epic nail biting aeronautics going on also, with all the actors having actually trained to fly these jets and the movie filming the flying sequences right in there with the actors in the plane seats, as they spin up in the air and go full throttle, providing such a visual spectacle that reminds us that sometimes its good to actually head to a cinema and see a movie on the biggest screen possible rather than watching endless yet entertaining nonsensical gibberish on Netflix such as Is it Cake? or Floor Is Lava. Truly all the flying sequences are incredible and you can tell the actors are doing it all themselves, especially Miles Teller who sweats and manically eyes all around him as he flies to his near death. You could just tell on his red face that he’s thinking “damn, I may actually snuff it”. Truly thrilling stuff. And for us experiencing it all now on the big screen, this is how it must have felt like for people back in the 80s watching the original Top Gun. And that’s what makes this new one so enjoyable. It keeps that 80s feel, yet modernizes it enough to fit right into 2022.
Seeing Tom Cruise flashing his cute/crazy superstar smile under his aviators, look, I know the guy is a scientologist and honestly what was he thinking getting involved in that, but he’s such a charming presence bringing so much energy back to his role as Maverick. And he has a good rivalry/bromance going with Miles Teller who plays Goose’s son Rooster (gosh all these nicknames!), who provides the main emotional gravitas to the movie, with Maverick having to deal with constant guilt over the death of his friend. Speaking of friends, Val Kilmer returns for a cameo role in one of the more touching and affecting moments, and overall director Joseph Kosinski finds that perfect balance in providing enough call-backs to the original whilst making the entire experience feel new and fresh. The entire movie puts a massive smile on your face as it generates such an infectious feeling of joy. Pulls at the heartstrings, featuring epic aerial stunts that put CGI use to shame, a game cast that is evidently having the time of their life, this is the kind of movie that has perfectly come together. What a rush!
Overall score: 8/10

You're a bunch of animals you want to put me in prison so he'll have someone there the f*** are you going to be doing but saying the same s*** and trying to hit you a lot more.
So bja tells me to attract us to the East Coast from Australia
Ken
Oh gosh what can we tell you you might be it it's on stupid but we're fighting over it and who wants to break him out under threat of prison so we don't think you're right morlok let me know you you're horrible people, who's ready to explode all day long everyday like 20 years cuz he can't stand you. The concept of love is the strangest thing anyone can go through in their life. Despite what’s being shown on movies of characters going through the emotional turmoil of being in love with someone and the struggles that comes with it, you were never told that the feeling of your heart being emotionally crushed would hurt more than any physical injury you’ve endured by far. This totally proves that anything can get worse in life. This also made you realize at a ripe age of 18 that maybe men isn’t for you after all.
Being the youngest Avengers gave you the perks of meeting anyone and everyone, while giving you the disadvantage of literally everything else. You were forced to grow up at a really young age due to your rough upbringing and as a result, never truly had a childhood but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
Honestly speaking this is only because you get to meet the woman, who turns out to be your first same sex crush, named Natasha Romanoff. She is the woman who can make anyone fall to their knees with a bat of her lashes, and make any man kill one another to get the chance to breathe the same air as that woman. As luck would turn out, you have the absolute privilege to have Natasha as the woman who made you realize you’re gay.
You frantically slam your door closed as you let out a sigh of relief, leaning back against your door as you calm your speeding heart rate down before you get a heart attack. You just came from training and gosh you were not ready to see Nat in the gym wearing a pair of leggings that totally perks her butt up more than normal and her sports bra pressing her breasts tighter against her chest, showing her cleavage more than normal. You shake your head frantically as you try to get the mental image out of your head, removing your scrunchie out of your hair so your natural H/C comes out in waves.
“Gosh I need to get a grip” you roll your eyes at yourself as you grab a loose shirt and cycling shorts to take a quick shower. After grabbing the shorts from your dresser, you hear a knock on the door.
“Y/N?” Your eyes widen at the sound of the familiar red head’s voice, looking around quickly to hide before realizing that sounds absolutely stupid. “You busy?”
“N-no” you refrain yourself from face palming after your voice cracked, clearing your throat as you put your clothes down. “Come in Nat”
Nat opens your door, leaning against the doorframe with that absolute killer smile that would make anyone unconsciously sigh in love, which you are trying so hard not to do right now especially now that you see her in a simple oversized sweater and sweatpants that just highlights her natural beauty. “Sorry to bother, but Roger’s calling for a meeting and asked you to come”
Nat raises her eyebrow in confusion as you didn’t answer her, clearing her throat slightly to get your attention. “Earth to Y/N? You okay?”
You blink for a moment before realizing you completely zoned out on Nat, looking at the time quickly before smiling shyly in embarrassment.
“Oh sorry, yea I’ll just take a quick shower then I’ll go down” she nods in understanding before waving goodbye and closing the door behind her.
You groan as you flop down to your bed, covering your eyes with your arms. “Fucking stupid lil shit”
You grumble as you face palm, sighing in defeat as you get up to shower before the meeting.
Tumblr media
You already knew that this day wouldn’t go well the moment you woke up, but the world is seriously not on your side the moment you walked into that room for the meeting Steve called. Apparently, the meeting’s about the mission you recently went to with Bucky and Steve, which was a recon mission, that almost went wrong only because you were distracted.
That day specifically was a week ago, and that day you realized how much you truly liked Nat more than an older mentor-student dynamic but more on please-marry-me-even-though-im-half-your-age. It was a sudden mission since you weren’t supposed to go but didn’t have the choice in the matter, as a result you almost blew up a small town outside of Italy.
“I already said I was sorry” you mumble loud enough for Tony and Wanda to hear, who were sitting at either side of you, as Steve goes to town pointing out your mistakes and flaws.
“Sorry doesn’t cut it if you almost obliterated a town Y/N” he says strictly as he points at the pictures projected on the screen behind him which shows recent photos Sam took of the town.
“They’re still alive right? You gotta give me credit for that” you try to explain but apparently that made Steve even more mad as he gets even louder. The weight of the situation starts to eat at you as you start to unconsciously cower in fear before covering it up as you look down to your hands to not see the disappointed looks of your colleagues.
Nat notices that you’re trying to not break down in a room full of adults, her eyes softening at the poor girl across the table. She puts a hand on top of Steve’s shoulder as she stands up, glaring at him. “Down soldier, She gets it”
A lump forms on your throat as you hear Nat, a tear forming as you discretely wipe it away as Steve glares at Nat in return.
“She doesn’t realize that every action has a consequence and the damages done on Alberobello is something we can’t ignore!” Steve starts as he starts to argue with Nat. “She needs to learn that we can’t just ignore these things because of how young she is so she needs to deal with her punishment so no missions for a month and training with either Bucky or I”
Your whip your head up to look at Steve in shock as the frustration starts to come up to the surface. “You can’t do that! That is so unfair-“
“No buts” Steve cuts you off as he crosses his arms across his chest. “You may leave now, the adults will discuss more things”
You give Steve a death glare as you get up harshly causing the chair you just sat on to fall back, grabbing the folder you brought with you and storming out of the meeting room as you hear Tony’s “way to go fossil man” and Nat’s “that was uncalled for” in the background.
Tumblr media
“Y/N? Come on open up” you hear someone, a female, say as they gently knock on your door.
“She’s not gonna answer you, I already tried” you hear another voice say, a male this time, say in an exhausted tone.
You hear a sigh before a thud right after, a waft of brownies start to creep in from under your door.
“I made you some brownies so you can cheer up” Wanda coaxes gently before pausing for a moment. “When you’re up for it, come to my room so we can talk okay? Come on Pete”
You hear their footsteps walk away as you bring the blanket further up and over your head as you sniffle and wipe the last bit of tears away. It’s been a few hours since that meeting happened and you’ve just been crying in your room this entire time. You peek your head out of the blanket to check the time, getting up and leaning on your elbow as you realized it’s already 10 pm.
You hear your tummy growl as you take a good smell of the brownies Wanda made. You get up and gently open the door, looking out just in case someone comes out. You pick up the plate from the floor and attempt to close the door before you see a foot come in and stop the door from closing. “Nat, seriously? What are we 5?”
The red head chuckles at your light teasing as she gently opens the door with her hand slightly. “May I come in?”
You think about it for a moment and of course going against any better judgement, you give her a nod as you allow her to come in and close the door behind her. You walk to your bed and sitting down so you can grab a small piece of the brownie and eating it.
Nat sits down besides you, taking a small piece of the brownie as well as you offer it to her and eating in silence for a bit.
“So, are you ready to talk now?” She asks after eating her share of the brownie, turning to look at you. You shake your head no in response as you put the plate on your side table and getting under your sheets. Nat sighs softly in response, getting up on the bed and crawling up to lay besides you.
“Okay I’ll accept that, do you want to watch a movie instead?” You look at her for a moment before nodding slowly making Nat smile. She grabs your tablet and put up your favorite movie to cheer you up a bit. She sits up so she can lean back against your headboard, playing the movie as you both fall into a comfortable silence while watching.
You start to slowly get out from under the sheets just enough that you’re cuddling with Nat as she starts to play with your hair unconsciously, twirling the strands a bit to eventually making tiny little braids unconsciously. You feel yourself relax in your crush’s arms, giving yourself the chance to watch Nat as she watches the movie.
You notice the little things with Nat like how she’d silently mouth some of the characters lines for the things she watched already, or how she’d light up a little whenever she’s pleased with the character’s move in romance or action movies. It shows a side of Nat that not a lot of people would notice, and it makes your heart skip a beat at the idea.
Being able to experience this sense of normalcy while being an avenger is a rare experience and being able to feel that, with someone you truly care for, is a privilege you plan to take advantage of while you still can.
For a moment, you felt like maybe you have a chance with the older avenger and maybe, she’d like you back. This caused your walls to come down further as you cuddle closer to her. That was, until you came back to your senses about what’s going on the moment you feel your heart tighten. You bring your walls back up as you get out from her hold, causing Nat to tear her attention away from the movie and back at you.
“Y/N? You okay?” You nod as you get up. “I think it’s time for you to go, I’ll be fine”
“Y/N/N I-“ you cut off Nat with a shake of your head and a smile you hope she doesn’t question as much. “I’ll let you know, but I’m fine I promise”
Nat stops for a moment to read you, but decides to just follow your wishes with a nod. She gets up and walks up to the door, stopping in front of it with her hand on the knob.
“You know I’ll always be here for you, no matter what right? And that you can trust me with anything” you hum in response as you play with the string of your sweatpants.
“I know, and I’ll talk to you later okay? I’m just a little tired, that’s all” she nods in acknowledgement and leaves your room. You take a silent deep breath before clutching onto your chest where your heart is, hoping to calm down the growing anxiety and pain in your heart.
“Gosh why does this hurt so much”
Tumblr media
“You need to stop running and move on from your crush with her, it’s killing you everyday” Wanda says as she bends over the pool table, aiming at the blue ball in front of her.
“I’m seriously trying Wan” you sigh in defeat as you put down the chalk used for the pole, leaning onto the pole while resting your chin on your arm thats holding onto the pole. “She’s my first love, you never forget your first love”
“I’m not saying to forget, I’m saying that you should just..” she trails off as she focuses for a brief moment, jerking her hand to hit the ball. The ball rolls off and falls into the pocket, making the older witch grin. “Shoot your shot to get everything over with. If she accepts which we know she might not, at least you get a girlfriend. If not, which is what we expect, then you can move on”
You both know that Bruce and Bucky are currently trying to woo Nat and honestly you can’t blame her if she goes for them. You knew deep down that they’re more fit for her than you are with her given that Bucky had history with Nat and Bruce’s just a charmingly nerdy man. You groan as you bang your forehead against the pole lightly making her chuckle.
“Our poor baby avenger” she cooes as she goes to you, patting your head gently. “Experiencing her first love problem, they grow up so fast”
“Who’s having a love problem?”
You both jump at Nat’s voice, turning to face the ex-assassin who’s grabbing a pool pole from the rack. “May I?”
“Jesus Nat” you exhale as you loosen your grip from the pole in your hands making both redheads laugh at your reaction.
“Be our guest, I feel like our little baby would rather you take over for her” Wanda says, a slight smirk gracing her lips as she hears your thoughts, and her smirk widens as you look at Wanda with a “god please no” look.
Nat chuckles softly as she walks up to the table, analyzing the layout in front of her. “Entertain me a bit, who’s Y/N’s new love interest?”
“A girl from her school, right Y/N?” Wanda asks you as you freeze on the spot causing Nat to glance at you for a moment before looking back at the table. “A girl?”
“Y-yea” your voice cracks from the pressure. “I mean yea, she’s really nice and really pretty”
“Yea she’s Y/N/N’s gay awakening”
“You don’t say” she mutters to herself as she leans forward to position the pole to her desired position. Your eyes immediately trail down to Nat’s ass.
You feel Wanda hitting you on the arm, gasping in shock as you give her a glare. She glares back as she discreetly motions for you to stop being obvious with staring at Nat’s ass.
“So Y/N, tell me about this special girl who made you question or realize yourself” Nat asks as she hits the white ball that hits a series of other balls.
“This is your chance to indirectly confess” you hear Wanda project into your mind, you nod in response.
“Uhh well” you start as you think about Nat, smiling slightly at the thought of her. “She’s definitely the kind to care for the people in her life, and really be the voice for those who needs it”
Nat glances up at you briefly to see that dazed love look on your face, a smile graces her lips before looking back down to hit another ball. “What else?”
“She’s sooooo pretty and charming” you say with that dreamy tone making the two redheads chuckle. “But she’s also the kind of person who wants redemption and…” you trail off to think of the words that would describe what you feel.
“Makes you want to take care of them because they don’t have anyone for that?” Nat finishes for you making both you and Wanda’s eyes to widen in shock. “Do I know this girl?”
“Oh god she’s onto you” Wanda projects into your mind as you slowly nod in agreement.
“So, do I?” Nat asks again as she stands back up for Wanda to take her shot. She walks to the other side of the table where you are, and grabs the chalk used for the pool pole and rubs it against the tip.
“Oh no you don’t” you say while waving your hands frantically.
Nat chuckles softly at you as she puts the chalk cube down before looking at you with a curious look. “If you like her so much, why not tell her?”
“If I do, she might not be my friend anymore and it’s scary for someone I care for to leave me you know” you say softly as you twirl the pole around in your hands.
“If I may join in the conversation” Wanda says as she hits the white ball for the adjacent ball to fall into another pocket. “If she cares for you also, she wouldn’t leave you”
“I agree with Wands” Nat says as she takes her turn. “If that girl has experience in that aspect and lets say she does decline you, then she would know how to let you down gently”
“I can’t believe we’re talking about this right now” you grunt to yourself, putting the pole down so you can grab your water bottle. “Can I just not tell her?”
“You don’t have to tell her, but if it helps you move on then I don’t see why not. As what Nat said, I feel like she’d be mature enough or maybe even cares for you enough to let you down gently if she were to say so” Wanda says nonchalantly as she hits another ball, but groans as it hits the wrong ball. “Dammit”
“If I were to suggest your next course of action” Nat starts as she goes up to you, putting her hand on your head and gently pats your head affectionately. “Follow your heart. If it tells you to confess, do it. If not, then you would know what to do and don’t over think it okay?”
You look into Nat’s eyes to see nothing but affection and care for you, making you avert your eyes away from Nat as you feel your heart speeding up. You bite on your lower lip as you nod in response.
Nat tilts her head to the side slightly as she analyzes you but thinks nothing of it as she puts the pool pole away. “I better get going, Bucky wanted to talk to me and I just wanted to kill some time. See you two later?”
Wanda waves goodbye to Nat as she leaves, leaving the two of you in an eerily quiet room.
“She totally knows” Wanda says as the both of you stare at the door where Nat just came from. You slowly nod in agreement as you feel the deep pit of your stomach fall, making you slightly light headed in anxiety.
“Oh yea for sure, I’m screwed”
Tumblr media
Later that day, it’s currently 11 pm and you’re sitting by the compound’s bar as you swirl around the vodka cranberry you made for yourself.
Ever since your conversation with Nat and Wanda at the game room hours prior, your heart hasn’t stopped beating as if it’s trying to get out of your chest and run to Nat. The pit in your stomach just further goes down the more you think about it, causing you to toss and turn in bed. It had gone to the point that you couldn’t even sleep anymore and just decided to rely on getting knocked out with a little help of Thor’s asguardian liquor.
“Aren’t you too young to be drinking right now, sweetheart?”
“If it’ll help then I don’t see why not” you mutter as you take a sip of your drink while Nat walks up to you, her heels clacking on the tiled surface and goes behind the bar to make something for herself. You look up to see Nat in a form-fitting black dress that shows just enough cleavage that its still R13 and matching louboutins. Her hair and makeup done to absolute perfection that brings Jessica Rabbit to shame.
“You look nice tonight Nat” you compliment her with a soft smile. “Came from a date?”
Nat hums in response as she pouts some vodka into a glass. “With Bucky yes, it went rather well to be fair with the old soldier”
You feel your heart shatter at that, causing you to hold onto the glass a little tighter. “Oh really? That’s good right?”
“It is” she starts as she turns to face you with the glass in her hand. “I’m just not sure if its something worth long term you know”
You feel your heart come back together again making you internally groan at how quickly your heart can break and mend back together again for this woman. “Yea I think I get it”
“You do?” Nat looks at you with a raised eyebrow, bringing the glass up to her ruby red lips. “Do tell, detka”
You shrug in response as you swirl your drink slightly as Nat drinks her own. “I know I’m just 18 almost 19 but I can’t help but feel jealous for those people who finds their soulmates at a young age you know. Kind of makes me wanna settle down already with someone”
Nat watches you for a moment as you finish your drink, pouring you another glass of vodka into your glass. “An old soul in a teenagers body, how interesting”
You blush at her compliment, chuckling slightly as you silently thank Nat for the drink. “Well what can I say, forced to grow up after all”
You both fall into a comfortable silence while taking sips of your drinks. You run your finger along the rim of the glass, a gentle hum fills the air. “Can I ask you something?”
“What is it?” Nat asks as she leans onto the bar counter as she watches you continuously create that gentle and sweet melody from the glass.
You take a deep breath as you think here goes nothing, just wanting to get it over with. “You know, don’t you?”
“I’m a spy Y/N/N, of course I knew” she says gently, not wanting to scare you off. “I wanted you to make the first move in case I read you wrong”
“Sometimes I wish you weren’t a spy you know” you mumble as you stop without looking up, clasping your hands together as you squeeze. “Is it safe for me to assume that I’m wrong?”
Nat pauses to think for a moment, humming in thought. “Sadly yes, although I do wish you were born a little closer to my time if you get me”
You nod in response without looking at Nat. You hear the clacking of her heels and feel a gentle kiss being placed on the top of your head.
“Don’t beat yourself up detka, it’s not the end of the world okay? I love you, just not in the way you pray for” Nat starts, trying to get a feel of what you’re feeling but you’re doing a good job concealing what you’re feeling right now.
“I truly care for you, that’s why I have to tell you this because I don’t want you to hurt yourself. I’ll leave you be for now and when you’re ready, lets watch a movie okay?” You nod in response as Nat walks away.
What Nat didn’t, or maybe she didn’t want to, notice was the slight tremble of your shoulders as you try to keep everything in with your walls up high to the sky. You hear the door close behind her, finally allowing your tears to trail down your cheeks and onto your hands below with a choked sob.
You let out a deep breath you didn’t know you were holding as you look up at the ceiling. You feel your heart shatter into a million pieces and fall onto the ground just to be stomped at a thousand times. You process what just happened but no matter how many times you play that conversation back in your mind, all you can think of is how Bucky managed to win the heart of your first love and how you’re experiencing your first heart break.
You feel your world crumbling around you over some woman who won then broke your heart. Another sob wrecks through your entire body as you try to keep the feelings in, thinking that this is just normal for everyone to experience so it shouldn’t be an issue.
You couldn’t help but let out a watery chuckle as tears continuously fall down, staining the tissue on the table and your light colored sweater.
“Wow” you waterly say, wiping the tears away with the palm of your hands. You clear your throat and chug down the straight vodka Nat poured onto your glass, putting the glass down as you glance at her glass with her lipstick stain in front of you.
“Love is such a big pain in the ass”

Little Lullaby
Request: So I was thinking that Taron and the reader could be babysitting his younger sisters and the reader isn’t too sure about having a baby with Taron but changes her mind after spending time with his sisters
Pairing: Taron Egerton x reader Warning: talk of children, a little bit of angst, fluff
Kids weren’t your thing. You babysat for a few years for your neighbour, you watched over kids in a summer camp once and you did a working experience at a kindergarten. And you were always glad when it was all over.
Kids weren’t a nightmare per se for you, you just never felt those urges some people had or the ‘not today but maybe in the future’ kind of attitude. You couldn’t imagine yourself settling down. Not even right now with Taron, your fiancé. Who you were going to marry in a few months.
You were currently cooking in your small kitchen when the front door opened and Taron entered, “Honey, I’m home!” As he came into the kitchen you saw out of the corner of your eye that he grinned from ear to ear. He stopped next to you and gave you a passionate kiss what left you more speechless.
The actor took the wooden spoon from your hands and stirred the sauce. He chuckled as you were still frozen in place. “Everything alright, darling?” You nodded slowly till you turned to him and looked him in the eye, “What happened today that you are this happy?” His smile got brighter. He turned off the stove and turned to you.
His hands grasped for your hips and he pulled you closer. “I told you that I had to work the week before our wedding and we only have four days to go on our honeymoon.” You nodded confused. He nodded with a gleeful grin, “Well my manger called me and said the scenes I have to shoot are nearly done and the week they thought they needed to shoot got cancelled. That means I am free and can help you.” Your smile got as bright as his, “Oh my gosh! That’s great news!” His smile got bigger, “I have another thing, more of a request from my ma. She asked me if we could watch over my sisters for her. Is it okay for you?”
You nodded slowly, “Yeah. Yeah, sure. When are we going to watch your sisters?” He looked down into your eyes and sighted softly, “It’s this weekend. You don’t have anything this weekend, do you?” You looked up at the ceiling in thought. Slowly you shook your head no. He smiled and kissed your cheek, “Good, let’s eat. And please tell me if you wanna change your mind. I don’t wanna force you to do anything you don’t wanna do.” Oh damn. What did you get yourself into?
The weekend arrived and you were at Taron’s childhood home. His sisters were ecstatic to see their big brother and asked him about his latest projects. He happily told them about them as much as he could without spoiling the movie. A little later you all were sitting around the coffee table in the living room playing Mario card. “Who send the blue shell? T?” His youngest sister was glaring at your fiancé. He turned to her and smiled as innocently as he could. You snickered together with Taron’s other sister.
You stood up and slapped your thighs, “Okay, we were told that pizza was on the menu for today. So where is the flour and yeast?” Everyone was scurrying into the kitchen to start the backing process. There was also a flour war in the kitchen started by Taron.
You cleaned the kitchen and yourself. Everyone may have glared at him a little. You definitely glared at him. How was it possible for flower to get into your bra? You ate in silence. Taron was punished for his crimes and was damned to do all the dishes. Before the girls had to go to bed you watched Sing. Taron was singing along which was shushed by his little sisters.
Taron’s mom came home an hour after the girls went to bed. You sat down with her to catch up. Another hour later you were on the way home. The ride home was silent. Taron had his arm on the middle console lightly taping it on the leather to the beat. Slowly you crept your hand onto the console and intervened your fingers with his. “I have been thinking.” Taron hummed softly and squeezed your hand to signal for you to go on. “We talked about having kids a few times and I know I shut them down the minute we started the conversation or I dodged it completely. I have been scared and in all reality I had a hard time imagine it. I could never imagine myself being a mom not even when our relationship got serious. But this evening,” you paused to take a big, deep breath.
You looked over to him to see that he was occasionally looking at you out of the corner of his eye. He sighted and squeezed your hand again, “It’s okay. Hey, it’s okay. We don’t need to have kids if you want. We can adopt forty dogs and grow old with them.” You smiled gratefully at him. “What I am trying to say is. This evening changed my mind. I started thinking. And I am not yet so sure about having kids right after the wedding but down the road I want some. Now I can imagine growing old together, raising kids together and later watching over our grandchildren.”
The car stopped at a red light. In an instant Taron reached over and kissed you hard. You reacted and kissed back with the same favour. You were interrupted by honking cars. You detached yourselves and Taron drove off. Both of you giggling like teenagers.

Heaven and Hell: or my experience being a person of color in Disney’s Hyperion Theater
Tumblr media
by Cooper Howell
Heaven and Hell: or my experience being a person of color in Disney's Hyperion Theater. #holdingtheateraccountable Im just gonna go ahead and be straight up. This is pretty scary to share. HEAVEN: Once upon a time Liesl Tommy cast me as Prince Hans in Frozen: Live at the Hyperion. And I was gooped. GOOPED. There was nothing in my prior history that gave any indication this was possible. Up until then every role I played had to do with my race. Every. Single. One. And even ones where it didn’t (Shakespeare or classical pieces mostly) I was always made aware that the novelty of me being a poc in that role that gave me the part. So much did I not expect to get this part that when I got the callback I rolled my eyes and didn’t take the actual callback seriously. I mean, there was a zero percent chance that Disney would ever let me play a Prince, especially when the dude in the movie is a ginger. But then I got it. And immediately everything I thought was possible about my career changed. My whole life I’ve never inwardly felt black. I’ve never inwardly felt white. I’ve always felt like I was Cooper, you know, on the inside. But whether it was every single white human in Utah reminding me that I was “the whitest person they ever knew/saw” (which DIDNT mean how white my skin was. It was how white I ACTED) or Mr. Johnson, my 7th grade drama teacher, telling me that he “wanted to put Velcro on the ceiling to see if I’d stick” or Mr. Smith, my high school drama teacher, saying “finally we can do black shows” as soon as I entered high school and then not casting me in roles because of the "optics" of it, or even my best friend in high school Tanner Harmon who called me "blackie", I was always reminded that I was an other. So imagine getting paid good money to put on that $10,000 costume and waltzing out to 4000 people a day to play a really amazing part. A fantastic, evil, complicated, person who sings a killer duet and then grabs the show by the throat with a vicious about-face monologue... and not once was my race ever mentioned cuz it didnt matter. What was being prized was Cooper, my talent, not my skin color that I never asked for. Heaven. Liesl MADE SURE, almost overly sure, that the poc’s in the cast felt equal. The kingdom of Arendelle, after all, is a make believe place. It can be whatever. From having Disney executives come and tell us that they were happy to have us there, to side conversations with John Lasseter, we were made to feel overly welcome playing the parts we were playing. She encouraged us to dive deeper into the script of a cartoon that I didnt really think much of until I was in it. We were encouraged to ask why. We felt seen as talent and not commodities. There were, of course, detractors. Gosh, I remember people at a party of cast members from "Mickey and the Magical Map" another show at Disneyland which features a princess and the frog number and many of those casts mates angrily claiming that “if that black girl Tiana Okoye can play Elsa than I should be able to play Princess Tiana” and then looking at me to confirm that was okay to say, not realizing that a) she’s one of my best friends, b) that I’m in the show with her also playing a role that wasn't created to be a poc, c) how racist that sounded, and d) why there's a difference there and why that wouldn't make sense. On Liesls final night I came up to her and said “I don’t know why you did it but thank you so much for casting ME in this part” to which she replied “you mean why would I cast a handsome, talented person in this role?” And I stuttered something like “well, I mean, I’m black. You know...” to which she tilted her head to her side and said “no. I don’t know why. Tell me why that matters.” And I had no answer. Seeing that I had no answer she smiled. That was the answer. There was no reason. On the spot my outlook about myself changed. Windows into what I thought was possible for me opened. -------------------------------------- HELL: And then Liesl went back to NYC and she was replaced by a man named Roger Castellano as show director. Rogers task, he told us on the first day, was to "change the show". We were not told what needed to be changed or even why, but that changes were on the horizon. You've got to understand: to a full cast of actors who had just spent more than three months dissecting a 60 page Disney script with a Tony nominated director like it was Shakespeare, we were initially emotionally/mentally/spiritually resistant to changes. But then it became clear that the spirit of collaboration was over, and the show changes were to be given without the same care, consideration, and thematic explanation of why they were being made. Everyones initial reaction was to push back, but when people who questioned their notes or their changes started getting days removed their schedule or being replaced entirely by a new actor, the Hyperion theater became a place where no one was allowed to speak out. Injustices were happening left and right and no one felt they could do anything for fear of losing their livelihood. And that's when the Frozen: Live at the Hyperion became a living hell. In my first note session with Roger he pulled me into a room with Domonique Paton, my best friend and incredible costar who played princess Anna in the show I was in. She just so happens to also be black. Almost all of Prince Hans’s scenes in the show are with her character and so most of my notes would be primarily based on those interactions with her. Earlier in the day I performed with a different (white) actress but it was the show with Domonique that I had a note session about. Imagine my surprise and dismay when, with how Liesl set up the show experience, we were told this: “WHEN THE TWO OF YOU PERFORM THE SHOW TOGETHER ITS TOO… URBAN.” Urban. What else could that have meant, do you think? He could have said maybe “too contemporary” emphasizing that we were maybe too modern in our speech patterns or movements. We weren’t. He could have said “too lax” or “too loose” meaning that maybe we were being unprofessional and goofy up there because we’re really good friends. We were not. The best me and Ms. Paton could think of was a 8 count moment of improv dance that me and Domonique decided to use as a synchronized moment of unity. It happened to fall on the line “our mental synchronization can have but one explanation” and thought, with the freedom that Christopher (the original choreographer) had given us, was appropriate, especially considering everyone behind us was doing the robot. As in the 80s robot. But he didnt clarify. He just said “WHEN THE TWO OF YOU PERFORM THE SHOW TOGETHER IT’S TOO… URBAN” And when asked what he meant he smiled with a little shrug and said "you can figure that out. You're smart." And thats how I became Black Hans and Domonique became Black Anna. My every moment onstage afterwards became about the optics of being a poc in that show. It was if I was suddenly made aware that I was LUCKY enough to be there and under any normal circumstances, or this new directors circumstances, me getting this part would have never happened. But the message was clear. It was especially clear when me and Domonique Paton shows together durastically decreased and made even more clear when the vast majority of the new hires were not people of color. But no one said anything. And made even MORE clear when, over the next few weeks, both Domonique and I got COPIOUS notes, ten times that of our coworkers that played the same parts. It was almost a game. In fact we did turn it into a game, seeing who would get the least amount of notes from him in a day. Our costars would even joke about it onstage with us, during the ballroom scene, and jokingly whisper "The shows been up 15 minutes. How many do you think you got today?" But no one said anything. And the notes were about all kinds of things. How we held our hand. If our inflections went up or down on a word. Which side of a couch we leaned on… which was fine! When you're an actor, thats the gig... until we started comparing our notes with the actors that played our same parts and none of them, NONE, would get the same notes. Our notes would be outrageously longer, the note sessions sometimes lasting 10/15 minutes. Others would get the “Oh hey, try doing this or that next time, okay bye” walk-by notes. Sometimes I would sneak into the audience and watch as some of the other Han's, some of whom changed lines, changed entire intentions of scenes, some of whom adding in all types of vocalizations and cackles and dance moves and what have you, and would receive ZERO notes. But I was watching them to see what was wrong with me. What was my performance missing? What am I actually doing to feel this singled out. And then I realized that the thing that was wrong with me was that I was a different color than the 5 other white Hans's they cast. And then I started getting notes about my penis. Most of the time these “penis sessions”, as I called them, were given in private rooms without another stage manager present. It was incredibly unpleasant and unprofessional. In fairness, those Prince Hans pants are TIGHT! And yes, Mr. Howell is indeed a party in the front and a party in the back, but so were a lot of those fellas. And thats where I put my foot down. If Disney was going to provide me with a costume it is not my responsibility to fix their problem, especially when other of my (white) costars had been given a dance belt for the same thing. But they never got penis notes. Private session notes about what their penis looked like in that show. Over and over again I was told to fix it, to not make it (my dick) so apparent, and that “if my daughter were younger I wouldn’t want her to come to a show you were performing at" all the more insulting considering his daughter, a cast member in the show, was a friend of mine and the loveliest person. He started demanding that I buy a dance belt. It was “my fault”, “my responsibility” …and thats where I took my stand. And then it really became hell. Penis sessions were now done out in the open. Once, he screamed at me, in the green room in front of all of my costars during lunch, about how incredible unprofessional I was, about how he was tired of seeing my dick, and that if I didnt go buy myself one I didnt deserve to be there anymore. Followed by a huge litany of notes. That doesnt compare to some of what Domonique went through and I invite her to share them if she’s willing. During this time I went to every stage manager in the building and told them about being singling out and about my penis. They all told me to write a complaint report and it would go to some place called "HR". Which I did. Numerously. More months passed. Nothing from "HR". Multiple cast members who witnessed my note sessions encouraged me to go to the HR themselves. I didnt honestly know what an HR was. As soon as it was explained to me by my allies even what an HR was I went to the head of HR at Disneyland herself and waited outside of her door. I asked her if she got any of my HR reports and she told me that she had received no HR reports from the Hyperion. Ever. And then asked me to fill out a HR form. As we went over it, she asked me some questions, and then set up a second meeting. On the second meeting she said that in order for my report to be given credence I would need witnesses to give their testimony. The witnesses, in fact the very people that told me to go to HR in the first place, said no. They didnt want to lose their jobs. In retrospect that might be the thing that hurt the most but, whatever... anyway, I was told "“well… without testimonies we’ll do an investigation and we’ll call you when we’ve completed it.” I never received a phone call. With absolutely zero protection from the stage managers from both the sexual harassment or my obvious racial targeting I (and others) were experiencing, not to mention that HR reports were doing nothing, aka not being forwarded, I thought about quitting. And when a white stage manager made a show mistake and laughed it off to the cast by saying an entirely offensive lynching joke, I quit. I didnt matter to Disney. How I felt and what I was being put through didnt matter. I was a commodity. My departure was unceremonious. Bizarre. 100% un-magical. I hung up my costume one last time and it was given to a new Hans, one who looked very much like me oddly, and stepped out of the theater. The park was playing “every wish your heart desires will come to you” and I remember laughing at how dead that song felt. The director has since moved on but still works as a musical theater director in Southern California. This one time 4 years ago I got to feel something other than my color for the first and only time in my professional career. It lasted from about March 2016 to July 2016 and never again since. I will never forget in those early days looking at all the beautiful princesses I got to woo and thinking “wow. I’m a prince right now.” Im sure that sounds stupid. But it didn't feel stupid. And a Disney prince! Yeah, a shitty prince kinda... I mean, he's a sociopath... BUT still a Prince! Especially special was being able to look in Dominique’s eyes and I could see the same glimmer of “can you believe we get to do this right now” reflected back. We never knew it was in the cards for us. My race always has and will always be part of my career equation and a determining factor of its projection. It will always be a determining factor in how im treated, by creatives, by people, by the those in authority over me, including the government and the police. #wasitmyskin

chapter 05: like anyone could
Sweat dripped on Nari's forehead as she tossed around the heavy covers.
She heard crunchy steps of a man's shoe walking in the woods.
"I- I'm sorry. Please stop." The girl whimpered. Storm ran through the woods looking for the girl's voice to help her.
"Where are you?!" Storm yelled.
"Here." the voice thundered. Abruptly, a dead body of a girl appeared. Her bones was spilled out and her face was mush on the ground making her unrecognizable. Her clothes was filled with blood and her blonde hair was getting greedily eaten by birds.
"Elaine." Storm sobbed waking up from her nightmare.
"Not again." She mumbled.
Last night, Storm left the party as soon as she had her confrontation with Taehyung. She took a bus home and left Elaine at the party. Honestly, she felt guilty. Elaine was obviously high so how will she get home? What if she drove herself home and crashed?
She knew that Elaine was kind of mean to her, but that wasn't any excuse. To be fair, Storm was upset at Taehyung and wanted to leave immediately. Elaine would've never left that party that early.
Her nightmare is what scared her most of all. Every since she was a child she would have intense dreams or nightmares. Sometimes, she dreamed of a kid in her foster home going back to their parents, and it would happen the next day. Then, around the age of her pre-teens, the dreams were more dark and complexed.
She once begged Taehyung not to go the opening of a movie one night. She had a dream that blood would be spluttered.
Taehyung sarcastically replied, "Obviously, were going to see the Purge."
Despite that, Storm's intuition was correct. A member of a street gang went to the theater to shoot someone and Taehyung witnessed it.
Then, when she was fourteen she decided not to do her homework because she had a dream the night before that her teacher had a heart attack.
She didn't think of warning the teacher or anything because she thought she was over analyzing her abilities.
But it did happen.
The worst nightmare Storm had was that her just reunited birth mother would die in a car accident. As soon as she got up to warn her, the police had already called.
Of course, they have been some times when Storm's dreams were totally off and she hoped this was the case today.
————-
Storm entered the library holding the flyers she had made this weekend. She was also wearing what Rosé called "a simple but cute" new outfit.
Jungkook looked up with a smile as he saw her, he closed the book, as it was no longer interesting to him.
"Hi Stormi." he spoked.
"Gosh Jungkook you scared me!" She jumped in surprise when she saw him. "And don't call me Stormi do I look like i came out of Kylie Jenner's vagina?” She snapped earning the attention from the libarian.
"Watch your profanity! This is a library." She loudly whispered.
"Oh fuck off you old hag." Jungkook shot earning a gasp from Storm. The librarian gave him a bow and walked away.
"What the hell." Storm murmured.
"What got your panties in a twist today?"Jungkook asked in concern.
This was his college and he wanted to make sure his baby got the best experience. Jungkook knew everyone at this school so if someone bothered her he could simply take care of it.
"I don't know where Elaine is. I feel so bad, I ditched her at the party and she haven't been responding to my text. I didn't even see her in class today." She ranted.
Jungkook was internally annoyed. Why does she care so much about the Eleanor girl? She literally tried to get her raped for drugs. Despite that, he had to stick with his story.
Hiding bodies was never a problem for Jungkook. He has the police wrapped around his fingers and governmental agencies silenced. However, he can't just go around saying he killed someone so he simply told Storm this:
"Oh, last night at the party she was so drunk and high. When she got home her parents were there and they sent her to rehab. Apparently, she is supposed to be clean. And you know, rehab don't allow phones. Who knows how long she be there? Poor Elise."
"That's so sad. I'm just glad she is getting help. I was so worried that something bad happened." She mentioned as she took one of the flyers from her hand and stapled it to the bulletin board.
"Hmm. Free Unlicensed Therapy, Call 1-801-545-7861 for appointments." Jungkook read.
"You're doing free therapy for the nutcases at this school? Are you bored or suicidal?" Jungkook scoffed.
"Oh don't be like that. I just want to help people. College is so stressful and this will be good practice for me."
"Yes, Stormi people will love to take advice from a freshman." Jungkook teased.
"Stop calling me that, how would you feel if I called you Kookie."
"Well if anyone else did I would cringe but for you I will allow it."
Jungkook suddenly thought about the negative effects of Nari's "free therapy". What if one of these idiotic aboms decides to confess and cry about what Jungkook been doing. Usually he loves people knowing how powerful he is, however he did not want his love to find out.
"As if they had the balls." He thought to himself. Nobody in this school was that dumb to sell him out.
"Beginning of the school Lockdown, what is that?" Storm asked looking at the colorful flyer that was on the unorganized bulletin board.
"It's when all the students gather together and lock themselves on campus and chill." He explained.
"That sounds fun."
"You're not thinking of going right? It's not for little innocent girls like you." Jungkook argued. The last thing he needed was the love of his life around a bunch of uncontrolled aboms.
Before Storm could answered him the bell rung. Storm left Jungkook without saying goodbye. She was annoyed at his comment.
—————
When she entered her class she noticed a familar face. Ford Jackson.
Storm first met Ford when she found out he was Taehyung's housemate. Ford’s name and face was practically everywhere at the school. He was apart of the college's football team.
She wanted to give him a wave but decided not to since he wasn't in her social league. Her worries was conquered when he looked up from his phone and saw her.
"Hey Stormz! Come sit over here."
She was surprised at his offer. He was sitting beside two people. She shyly sat down beside him.
"Hey Ford, I didn't know you was in the class."
"Classes are the least important thing to me but I gotta take them." He sighed. "Oh, by the way this is my girlfriend Sofía and my best friend Hobi."
"Nice to meet you guys." Storm smiled.
"Yeah guys this is Taehyung's sister." Ford added. Sofía and Hobi gave me a questionable look.
"You can't be serious babe. I can't go to your house because those assholes there and now we hanging out with their sister." Sofía complained ignoring Storm's presence.
"Wait, I thought you was friends with them." Storm remarked confusingly.
"Please, Ford is nothing like them." The boy Hobi spoke.
"I'm confused. What's so wrong with them?"
"First of all, Storm is a Pukka. You can trust her." Ford told his friends.
"¡Gracias a Dios!" Sofía celebrated.
"Taehyung is practically Jungkook's henchman. Do you know how many people he beat up this year and then they randomly disappeared? No offense, but your brother is a piece of shit." Hobi commented.
All of this was news to Storm. She thought Taehyung was just popular at this school, she didn't know he was a bully. She also wondered what Jungkook have to do with this.
"If Taehyung is such a bad person, why do you live with them?"
Ford took a big sigh. "Two years ago, I was a senior in high school. I had people telling me I was NFL material. I was an honor roll student and I worked all day after school on my skills. I live in a small town so not many scouts come out. One day, a scout for the biggest college team came.
I was so excited and nervous but despite all that I played. I scored 5 touchdowns. My best record as a running-back. But you see the couch's son he was quaterback. Very mid, all he did was pass the ball to me. The whole schoolyear he only scored two touchdowns. Imagine my shock when the scout chose him to go to the college and not me? All because his dad paid the scout for his untalented son to be at the school. Typical white privilege. He's sitting on the bench for that college team now.
Anyways, I was devastated. I was in a deep depression because football was my life and my dreams were impossible. This might be embarrassing but I was working at Target and Jungkook was there. He was waiting by my car outside.
Ive never even met him before, he told me that he wanted to help me. He gave me a full ride to this college and now I'm the best on this whole fucking team. When I joined this school it was a dump. Jungkook is weird ill admit but his friends are all ass kissers, I lived with them because I was offered a free room in a mansion, who wouldn’t accept? I always thought he would want something in return but he didn't. I don't help Jungkook out with his shit, I'm just here for football and for my girlfriend." He explained.
Storm had alot of questions but of course she asked the biggest one. "How can Jungkook offer someone a full ride to college when he's a student?"
"Wow girly. You are definitely a freshman." Sofia laughed.
"Is Jungkook a Pukka?" Storm asked. Honestly, she was surprised she never asked herself this question since that is all this school talked about. She hoped that he was a Pukka, she kind of liked him.
"Neither." Ford answered. "Look, I know this might seem hypocritical but stay away from them. Especially if you have skeletons in your closet. I know Taehyung is your brother but he is not as innocent as you think. The only person a Pukka should trust is a Pukka."
"How can someone be neither? I'm so confused." Storm groaned.
"The best thing to do at this college is to never ask questions, just get your degree and go. Now lets quiet down, class is about to start and you never know which one of them aboms are listening."
———————-
Taehyung eyes aimlessly searched the hallways looking for Storm. He knew her class was near this hall so she would have to come out.
Taehyung wanted to apologize to his sister for what he has done. Never in his life has he treated his sister to harshly. He felt so guilty.
Taehyung noticed her leaving the class talking to a girl by her locker. He was proud of her for making friends. He was about to approach her until he noticed Lance around the corner staring at his sister sending text messages.
He angerly walked towards him pulling him into an empty hallway making the boy squeal.
"Chill Taehyung!"
Taehyung roughly slammed him into the locker making Lance fall down in pain.
"What the fuck! I'm telling Jungkook you touched me!"
"Oh, shut up Lance. You want to explain why you're stalking my sister. Do your weird ass have a crush on her?"
"Aniyo, Taehyung. I'm a gay man." He screamed touching the back of his bloodyhead.
"Stop trying to be Korean, you're from Ireland lucky charms. I saw you stalking her so explain yourself before you will have to explain to the whole school why your missing a limb!" Taehyung angrily threatened.
"It's for Jungkook. He gave me the assignment to tell me where she is at every second of the day. And you, hyung, are interrupting my assignment. I should tell Jungkook so he can demote you and make me his number two." Lance said smiling at the thought despite his pain.
Taehyung worst fears are becoming true. Why is Jungkook so interested in his sister?
"Is that so, Lance? I don't know if you have a crush on Jungkook, or whatever unnamed reason why you are obsessed with pleasing him. But none of this matters. I'll make it very clear, if i see your leprechaun ass lerking again, ill kill you." Taehyung growled.
Lance gave a frightened look as he tried to get up to his feet but fell down due to pain.
"That's right Lance. You know why I'm Jungkook's number two, because while your hands are typing on keyboard trying to hack into companies to make him proud my hands are getting bloody. I certainly don't mind killing it's actually a stress reliever to me. Do you know how happy it would make me to get rid of you?" He laughed.
Taehyung gave Lance one more evil grin before leaving the hurt boy in the hallway.
——————
"Hello hyung." Jungkook greeted at Taehyung as he entered his house.
It was about 11pm, the rest of the boys were away but Taehyung waited for Jungkook to return.
"Hey Jungkook. I need to talk to you."
"No, I'm quite busy." Jungkook stated making his way upstairs.
"Stay away from my sister." Taehyung growled.
Jungkook halted at Taehyung's tone. He turned around to look at him.
"What was that, Taehyung?" He challenged.
"Stay away from her. She's innocent and don't need to be around a thing like you. So stop sending your lapdog Lance to stalk her."
"Or what? Taehyung." Jungkook calmly asked.
Taehyung's heart skipped a beat and Jungkook could hear it. "T-there's no or what. I've been loyal to you for so long. You can atleast owe me this one thing."
"Owe you?" Jungkook laughed. "Taehyung, you would be in prison without me. Fuck, they probably just give you a life sentence for all your crimes."
"Ah, your crimes. If your sister knew she probably wouldn't even talk to you again. Oh wait, she's already not talking to you. Maybe i'm not a threat to your sister, perhaps you are." He continued.
"And what if she knew about you Jungkook? What if she knew what you actual are?" Taehyung said in a threatening tone.
Jungkook stalked his way towards Taehyung. Taehyung's confidence suddenly disappears each step he takes towards him.
"What I am." Jungkook stated as his eyes turn purple and black veins appear under his eyes.
"Have you forgotten what I am? I could tear you to shreds right now and God wouldn't even help you because of how much you're a shitty person."
"I-I'm not scared of you, Jungkook." His shaky voice responded.
"Oh, but you are Taehyung. You're scared of what I can do to you and your sister."
Jungkook paused. "You know you are right Taehyung, you have been loyal to me so I will tell you the truth."
"I'm going to do everything in my unlimited power to make your sister mine. I always get everything I want, and I will give her everything she has ever wanted. I'll buy her flowers if she want. I'll buy her the biggest house if she wants. I'll fuck her if she wants. And if anyone is brave enough to try to stop me I'll kill them."
Taehyung gasped in shock.
"Are you brave enough, Taehyung?"Jungkook whispered.
Taehyung stayed quiet and the only thing that could be heard was heavy breathing from him.
"Well, just incase you are." Jungkook asserted before giving Taehyung a powered punch in the stomach that made Taehyung's human body fly into the wall.
Jungkook showed Taehyung mercy. Anyone else who come between him would die. Jungkook chuckled to himself.
Like anyone could.

Bering and Wells Reunion Panel Transcription (4/17/2021)
This is from the ClexaCon Virtual panel with Joanne Kelly and Jaime Murray, with Dana Piccoli as moderator and Mark as ASL interpreter. I spent around six hours on this and there were really only a couple of brief bits I couldn’t make out - I tried to make this as thorough as possible even though the audio quality was iffy at points and there was a lot of overlapping talking. I also included all of the ums and uhs in the interest of thoroughness so sorry if that gets annoying. Let me know if I’ve gotten any screen names wrong.
Content notes: brief discussion of on-set injury, allusions to homophobia from higher-ups, discussions of hostile workplace experiences due to gender, brief discussion of the ovarian cancer subplot, Jo misgenders Mark once and then corrects herself.
Dana: And I think we are live! Hey everyone, welcome, welcome, this is day 2 of ClexaCon Virtual. So glad to be here with you for our Warehouse 13 Bering and Wells panel. What a great video! I believe that was Mal that made that. Fantastic work! [They showed a fanvid prior to the panel on the stream.] Uh, I want to take a second to introduce Mark, our ASL interpreter. Thank you so much for being here, Mark. Well, I know that the Bering and Wells fandom is still going strong and, um, I’m so excited to be able to present this panel to you today, so without further ado, let’s get started. It’s been seven years since we last embarked on the wonderfully quirky world of Warehouse 13 and we’re thrilled to have not one, but two of the show’s stars here with us, Bering and Wells in the flesh, please welcome Joanne and Jaime!
Jo: [laughs] Hi!
Jaime: Hi guys!
Dana: Hi!
Jaime: Oh my goodness, I was tearing up watching that, that was just...
Dana: It’s so good, right?
Jaime: And Mal made it, of course, I mean just, the fandom is so amazing, that we have a fan who made that amazing movie, and I’m sitting here... were you tearing up, Jo?
Jo: Yeah... [laughs]
Dana: She’s like, I can’t talk right now!
Jaime: Aww.
Jo: Yeah, it’s, you know, it’s like, it’s like a, a wormhole, it’s like going in a wormhole, really, to see that put together in that way, and just, that somebody did that is, um, crazy, wonderful.
Jaime: Yeah.
Dana: When, when we are in person in, uh, in, in Las Vegas, I’m often backstage with the actors as they see these videos maybe f- for the first time, and your reaction is the reaction that everyone has. They all get teary, they all just like hold onto each other, it’s, it’s really sweet and wonderful.
Jaime: Oh my gosh, I, I wish I could go back in time and like, we film more of it and, and enjoy it more, because sometimes when you’re in it, you’re just going so fast and, you know, you don't even realize the meaning of, of, of what you’ve created until you see it through the eyes of the fans and what it meant to them, and then I, I wish I could lean into it more. [laughs]
Dana: Well, we’re certainly gonna get into that. [laughs]
Jaime: [laughs]
Dana: Alright, well, let’s kick things off! Uh, as of a we- a week ago, I was prepping to interview Jaime, and then suddenly the heavens opened up, and what was one became two. [they laugh] Joanne joined the party! How did this crazy kismet even happen?
Jo: I’m trying this new thing where I say yes. [laughs]
Jaime: [laughs] Well done!
Jo: Thanks. [laughs] Um, it’s a new thing I’m trying. Um, Jaime texted me and she’s like, I'm doing this thing, we had talked about it, I think the last panel we did at Dragon*Con maybe?
Jaime: Yeah.
Dana: 2018.
Jo: And she had told me about ClexaCon and I was like, that, because I really enjoyed that panel that we did, it felt, you know, I think one of the reasons, and I think that the work between us is, and I look at it now and I’m so touched because I, and I also just think the world of Jaime as an actor, I think she’s brilliant and her choices are so clean and-
Jaime: Ditto.
Jo: -full heart forward, like I, I’ve always been a fan of what she bought, and just personally on set I was in a, it was a very male environment, and Jaime came and I was like, oh my god, like, someone to talk to, someone who cared, and she took care of me, like she really - so I just, I don’t know, when she reached out I was like, of course, yes, yes.
Dana: Like it’s in two days, sure! Let’s, let’s go!
Jaime: We missed each other as well. It was also an opportunity to hang out, like, we missed each other!
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: We had this flurry of texts of like, checking in with each other, and what-
Jo: What have you been watching? what are you doing?
Jaime: Yeah.
Jo: Where are you?
Jaime: Yeah, so.
Dana: Oh, that’s amazing! So you’ve maintained this really wonderful friendship since, since the end of the show.
Jo: Yeah, I mean, actors are nomads and we’re very sort of, I feel, Jaime, I don’t know if you feel the same way, but it’s like those friends that you have that you don’t see forever, but when you see them you fall back into a rhythm automatically, there’s never, it doesn’t feel push or pulled, it’s just, it’s just nice.
Jaime: I, I think also for us, um, I think there’s a sisterhood as well, you know, I think that, you know, Jo just touched on it. You know, often in a cast there’s, um, it’s changing and it’s evolving all the time, and this was seven years ago, and it was seven years before that, it started, so like fourteen years ago-
Jo: Oh my god. [laughs]
Jaime: But there’s, ninety nine point five percent of the people behind the camera are men, the majority of the parts are often men, or it’s, it’s male and women, but the men have the more heroic bits and the funnier lines and you’re kind of struggling with that and you’re glad to be working so you’re kind of making good and making it okay, but you’re kind of like, you know, getting feels, and, you know, as, as Joanne said, it, you know, you’re laughing at dick jokes when you don’t find them particularly funny- [all laugh]
Jo: Like wow! Oh! [sarcastic thumbs up]
Jaime: And so when I came in, I saw Jo - I had been on shows, like I was on a show called Hustle, I was the only girl in the cast, and then everybody, uh, behind the camera was, um, all men. Um, on Warehouse we had one female writer on some episodes, um, we never had a fe- uh, um, a female director on anything or a producer-
Jo: No we had, we had Tawn- [presumably about to mention Tawnia McKiernan] we had two fem- we had a few, but we were-
Jaime: No- no- not on my, not on my episodes.
Jo: Oh, on yours.
Jaime: But it was just like, I came in and I saw Jo and I understood, and I knew what her experience was, and so there was this kind of kinhood, this sisterhood, and I think it, it’s not a male-female thing, but it’s, it’s a minority and majority thing. When you’re in a minority and the majority is doing something, you either have to get down with the program and go with that flow, or you get kind of fe- you feel like you’re difficult or annoying to everybody. And I kind of came in and I just was like, oh like, I get it, it’s hard, and I’m gonna give this woman, like, my, my energy and my love and, so it was-
Dana: So you were like I- you looked at Joanne and you were like, that is someone I can smash the patriarchy with!
Jaime: [laughs] Yes.
Dana: Let’s do it!
Jo: No, I read a lot of books [laughs] when we weren’t filming. I would like get on my chair and just be like this. [mimes holding book in front of face]
Jaime: Yes!
Jo: [laughs] Like I’m doing this now, I’ll see you guys when we’re rolling again, you know, it was really- and, but also, you know, it’s so, and it is changing, it’s changing and evolving in a really, um, at a wonderful rate, but also I would get so excited to be in a scene with another woman that wasn’t about a man, you know, or that we weren’t- uh, it was just so nice to have girl-girl scenes. That never happens, it hardly ever happens. Like, the majority of scenes that you do are about love or acrimony with men, um, and it’s so nice to have a relationship with a woman that’s, um, sort of reflective of how relationships with women actually are. Um, I’ve been, I shifted into writing because of frustration with just not reading stories that I felt were reflective of our, my experience as a woman, you know, that sort of, um, and I think that Bering and Wells sort of in, I mean, that’s when that ship turned for me, as well.
Dana: Well ho- hold that thought, we are, we are going there!
Jaime: And, and also because it wasn’t, it actually wasn’t written. Um, there was, in a way we were able to steer that ship, and then we’d already kind of given a road map for the way this energy was, so it wasn’t written in the conventional way. Like, even like, when a, when a, when a, when a woman will have a love interest it’s, it’s often written by men and it’s o- often in a conventional kind of way, whereas our relationship, at a time before people were even kind of, uh, exploring this that much, um, now, now much more, thank god, it’s more, more inclusive. But it was more kind of, um, uh, complicated than, than maybe would’ve been written about, so it was given more nuance, yeah.
Jo: You mean like, do you mean like actual relationships? [laughs]
Jaime: You what? Say that again?
Jo: Like actual relationships! [laughs]
Jaime: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [laughs]
Jo: You know, that don’t come in and you have a “where they start and where they finish,” like that we, oh, we know where they’re gonna end up so we’ll just gonna-
Dana: Right, right.
Jo: -move them around like chess pieces. It was actually an energy that Jaime and I created, and the story sort of evolved from that energy as - it was inside out as opposed to outside in, which I think made it a real relationship.
Dana: Well, so my friend Dorthy Snarker, she once said that HG and Myka’s storyline has been main text pretending to be subtext, which feels really apt to me.
Jaime: Yeah!
Dana: So at what point-
Jo: Very smart.
Dana: What point in the show did it really click with the two of you that this connection that HG and Myka shared was something much deeper?
Jo: Jaime just had, Jaime, you just explained this very coolly in, in, um-
Jaime: One of our chats.
Jo: Yeah, yeah. Why don’t you speak to this, why don’t you take this?
Jaime: Well, well, first of all like I said, there was like kind of this sisterhood when I came in and, um, Jo, uh, Jo wasn’t like, like it wasn’t like I came in and she was like hey let’s be friends. I came in and she was behind a book, and she wasn’t particularly accessible, and she wasn’t, like, she was a bit grumpy, you know. And so I was like, my personality type is like, how do I crack this nut? [laughs] How do I make this woman love me? [laughs] This is the most unaccessible woman-
Dana: That explai- Jaime that explains a lot! [laughs]
Jaime: This is the most unaccessible women on the set, the mo- the most unaccessible human to me. How do I make her fall in love with me? So it’s like partly my narcissism-
Jo: [laughs] Jaime Murray in a nutshell, everyone!
Jaime: -and my ego, um, so I was kind of winning her over off set, and then, you know, as she was opening up to me and, you know, she was kind of telling me about some of the challenges she was coming up against, I was like, yeah, that’s, that’s not fair, and yeah, I completely get that, you know. So we were kind of like having that kind of journey, I’m like, like, I’m like, oh no, you’re not crazy, everyone else is crazy! Like, let’s smash the patriarchy!
Jo: [laughs]
Jaime: And then, and then unfortunately, um, Jo hurt herself really badly doing a stunt, and, um, you know, there’s no time to hurt yourself on a film set, and there’s no time to take time and, and kind of heal your back or anything like that. So she was taking some pretty strong painkillers and she was working through it, and I had spinal surgery, I, I know what back pain is like, it’s, it’s the worst. I mean, it’s literally everything, you know, you feel like an old person. And so I was, um, taking care of her as best as I could, and we had the scene, and it was the scene in the street where, I, I think it's the first scene that, where I get the grappler out-
Dana: Oh, the grappler.
Jaime: And I shoot it into the air and I put my arm around her and we shoot up-
Dana: We’re very familiar with this scene. [laughs]
Jo: [doing grappler motion] [laughs]
Jaime: Yeah, so, so it’s like, it had like, physicality, and also it was a really, um, we always laugh that Toronto has about five seasons in one day, so you’ll like start shooting the scene and then suddenly there’s a, like a snowstorm! Bright sunshine!
Jo: Then it’s sunny! Then rain!
Jaime: Torrential rain, wind - and it was one of those, and we had to move to a new location, we were really behind in the day, and she had this one pice of hair that kept on like blowing in her face-
Dana: Oh, I know where this is going, Jaime. [laughs]
Jaime: And she was, the thing was, she was like, also these painkillers-
Jo: I was like, I can’t even see with the hair, I was like, I was hopped up on so many painkillers...
Jaime: Yeah, she was hopped up, she was like, I can’t even get my hair out of the way!
Jo: I think I actually called that day, it was the only time where I was like, guys I can’t work anymore, like, I literally, the doctor was like, you need to rest and I’m like I can’t. And the first AD came over to me and he was like, you’re gonna have to say stop, because nobody is gonna stop the filming, and I didn't wanna do that because you don't want to be the person that, that loses the day.
Jaime: That’s part of it, isn’t it? You’re, you can’t be, you can’t have any vulnerability or be a woman in any way, any shape or form on a film set. [laughs]
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: So I knew in the morning, and so I’d been like trying to take care of her and had, had like this experience of having spinal surgery, so I was like caretaking as much, as best as I could. I’m a Cancerian as well, so it’s in my nature.
Dana: Sure.
Jaime: And, um, and we‘re in this scene and we’d had to kind of cut so many times, and this hair just kind of-
Jo: [laughs]
Jaime: -came over her face like this, and I just lent forward and on my line I just moved the hair out of her, um, face and put it back, and there was this, this look of genuine-
Jo: [laughs]
Jaime: -surprise and shock in her face because we hadn’t rehearsed it and, and, and you know, we rehearse everything, and then, and then Joanne, what did you say that you-
Jo: I said I had this feeling, you know, when she did that I was like, oooh, um, what’s happening? [laughs]
Dana: [laughs]
Jaime: What are these feelings I’m having?
Jo: I did not expect all these feelings.
Jaime: Someone is being nice to me in this hostile world!
Jo: I was like this is so, it was like, pink light came up and there was glitter all of a sudden, and a unicorn in the back and, um-
Dana: Yep.
Jaime: They were really good drugs, you can’t, they’re illegal now, you can’t get them now cause they’re illegal now, but-
Jo: [laughs] No, no! But that point I’d say that the storyline really developed from inside out, you know outside, it was actually something, she did something that made me respond in a certain way, and as an actor you have those openings and you can choose to go, you either close them, like if, if I don’t like an actor [laughs] and someone does something, I might go like, no, I don’t wanna gonna go with that- [laughs]
Jaime: Yeah.
Jo: -and change the track, but because I love Jaime and, and that happened, I sort of just was like I’m gonna go with this energy and see where it leads. And so it was a very organic, and it took me completely, and I had not expected it, it took me completely- but I liked it, so I started, then that...
Dana: So you are the reason, you two are the captains of the Bering and Wells ship. You made that happen!
Jaime: Yeah.
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: But also I felt like HG, you know, she came from an era when the suffragette movement was, um, happening, and she was active in that, however, she had to write under her brother’s name, um-
Dana: Yeah.
Jaime: And as a woman, you know, she couldn’t be even open about her brilliance and she had to let her dimwitted brother take credit for it, and then she was frozen. So she was an activist before her time and suddenly she’s waking up in a world where there’s this dynamic woman, gun-toating woman kind of using her wits and brainpower and like, god bless Pete [laughs] but he was a little bit, like, she was the brains and the brilliance, and often he would be kind of like, you know, taking the credit for it or like having the girls flirt with him, and I just felt like if I grow up, if I woke up from, you know, a dream of, of being a suffragette and I woke up and I saw Myka, surely I would be more fascinated-
Jo: [laughs]
Jaime: -by this woman who is everything that I had ever wished to be, so I started playing off this fascina- I was fascinated by her. Pete was just as stupid as my brother. [laughs]
Jo: And I do have to say, I do have to give the showrunner Jack Kenny credit here too, because Jack really let us run with it and started to lean into it, and the writers were all very accepting, so it was, and, and Jack particularly, you know, we had a lot, we had our creative differences, but he was really generous in this storyline with us, like I think, he gave us a lot of rope to play with-
Jaime: Yeah.
Jo: And it was interesting rope, because they never-
Dana: It was attached to a grappling hook is what it was!
Jo: Yeah, and they never, like what i really loved about it is the never like put it on the nose it was always very elliptical, we always had room to breathe, um-
Jaime: Well partly I don’t, I think that it was, it was, it’s funny to talk about it now because it doesn't seem that long a- long ago, but it-
Jo: But it was so long ago...
Jaime: -it was unusual-
Jo: For that.
Jaime: -for the genre and for the audience that we were going for to, to actually go there, um,
Dana: Yeah. Seven years ago, you’re absolutely right. Things have changed tremendously, and especially in the last five years.
Jo: Yeah, yeah.
Jaime: And, but I think that Jack and Drew, they were kind of excited about what we were doing, but actually, you know, we weren't sure what the network would say or what the advertisers might think, and so, um, you know, I’m really proud of the work that we were able to, to say-
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: You know, being the first in some ways.
Jo: It’s interesting, you know, like Jaime texted me, she sent me this video and I was looking at it and I was just so proud-
Jaime: I sent you Mal’s video, I sent you one of Mal’s other videos.
Jo: She’s wonderful, so like shoutout to her!
Jaime: Yeah
Jo: That’s, yeah, it was gorgeous, and I was really proud of the work, you know, after, it’s, you create these things in a bubble and, I haven’t se- I haven’t seen Warehouse, I never watched it. [laughs] so I’m always very surprised to see these videos, it feels like I’m cracking open-
Jaime: And I want to say as well, you know, when we say we haven’t down and watched all the shows, or you know, in some peoples’ cases, many of the shows, you know, it’s, it’s not because we don’t love the show and we don't love the work that everyone else has done, done, it’s actually a lot of actors don't watch, um, their own work. It’s, if, if you’ve ever heard your own voice on an answer phone or something and you're like, who’s that? Oh my god, that’s me!
Dana: [laughs]
Jaime: Like, so when you see yourself on TV or screen it’s like that on crack, it’s absolutely terrifying, and, and you’re like oh my god, like behind a pillow, like-
Jo: Filled with self loathing and despair. [laughs]
Jaime: Yes.
Dana: That’s okay.
Jaime: Which is a work in progress, I’m trying to deal with that now.
Dana: Well, when, at what point did you realize that queer people were actually starting to flock to the show to support this direction with these characters?
Jaime: We, we didn't know, we didn’t know-
Dana: No?
Jaime: Well, we, um, I, um, Jo’s not on social media so I don’t know when she knew, other than maybe when I told her. I saw replies on twitter-
Jo: Comic Con.
Dana: Somebody didn’t like hire a plane and like, around the area with like, a Bering and Wells forever…?
Jo: I, I remember, I remember going to Comic Con, for me because that’s’ when I had the fan interaction, um, because I wasn’t on Twitter-
Jaime: Yeah, there were fans that told us.
Jo: And, and, uh, a lot of the women, I remember being asked some very specific questions during panels, and, you know, there's a lot of guys who like to talk at those panel so I didn’t get to talk a lot but I made it quite, I, I made it quite clear about how important that storyline was to me and it, it, I realized very quickly that it was important to a lot more women than me. I didn’t really realize, too, that storytelling wasn’t represented in that way, at that point, you know. I didn’t feel that. I didn’t feel like that was a groundbreaking choice, to choose to be attracted to a woman in a scene to me is life, it’s how I live my life, I, I’m you know, I don’t have those, I’m not in a box [laughs] and it so when I realized, it was a eye-opening moment. I’m like, I’m like, wait, wait, this is, this is something new that’s not being done?
Dana: You guys were kind of on, you were like right here [miming going up a hill or mountain] and then shortly after Warehouse, it started going like [woosh noise of going down the other side of the hill] and this wave of representation started happening.
Jaime: Well, ev- even in Warehouse, there was an openly gay character in, in Warehouse.
Dana: Right, yes!
Jo: Yeah, yeah, there was Aaron.
Jaime: But it’s been, it’s been incredibly, um, powerful for, for, for, for me, um, you know, I I, think that a lot of people, some people are like oh my god, you know, I wish I could go back to my childhood or my teenage years, I, you could not pay me anything for, I would not go back to my teenage years for love or money. It was, it was a incredibly painful time for me, um, and not a particularly happy time for me, and, um, you know, just awkwardness, you know, all the stuff that, you know, all the stuff people feel in their teens, all the bad stuff I felt in my teens, so when I’ve spoken to people at conventions, um, and they've’ spoken to me about, um, Warehouse having, and our relationship in Warehouse having a positive effect for them in their teen, in their painful teenage years, it’s, it, it, it can bring me to tears, because i- if I could have imagined having kind of that, some kind of impact when I’d been a teenager maybe I wouldn't have been so miserable, but, um, I’m really humbled by it. it’s really lovely.
Dana: Yeah, you, you most certainly have had a tremendous impact on a lot of peoples’ lives and I’m so glad that you are able to take that and keep it in your heart.
Jaime: Yeah.
Dana: Speaking of this kind of sea change of the last few years, do you think that if Warehouse had been airing now that things might have ended differently? Do you think that maybe that subtext really would have been pulled much more into main text?
Jaime: You’d know better, Jo.
Jo: I...don’t know the answer to that question, um, perhaps, actually, absolutely! It’s twenty twenty-
Jaime: If we were writing it, maybe.
Jo: I mean, that’s what I’m trying to do. [laughs] Um, yeah, I think so. Maybe we would have been able to lean more into that storyline, um-
Jaime: Maybe we would’ve had a, be a stronger voice in shaping the narrative there.
Jo: It, yeah, I mean, Jack was, Jack was great about it, but it, it was a different, it was a different era. I think now is, is really a beautiful time for storytelling in the sense that it is really becoming so much more inclusive and we have representation, which, I mean, seeing ourselves represented in stories is how we understand ourselves in the world, and that’s, it’s so important, you know, it’s so important where we’re going, um, and I wish there could have been more of that in Warehouse, but I’m glad there was what there was.
Dana: Yeah.
Jaime: I, I, I also think that, um, you know, it’s changed so much in just such a short space of time, but particularly in the last couple of years, like, women were always, um, portrayed like, like, women always had to be perfect and kind of cute, and, you know, there had to be kind of something attractive or charming about them at all times, you know, and so we always had to put a bow on a woman to make her acceptable. And one of the things that I’m really loving is, you know, that women can be flawed and they can still, you can still love them and, you know, one of the things that always stun- stunned me is that I’ve been so welcomed into a community of kind, inclusive, um, you know, powerful activist, um, women, uh, um, and I’m like, why do these amazing women even like my characters when I’ve played such, um, a bad character, and it’s like-
Dana: But, but we love that! Queer women love a villain!
Jaime: Well, it’s like, flawed characters, and it’s like, and then recently I watched this show called, um, I hate Suzie Pickles [actual title of show: I Hate Suzie], um, there’s a show called, um, uh, I May Destroy You. They’re British shows, actually, both are.
Dana: Oh, yeah, it’s so good.
Jaime: And they, these are complex, um, women who make bad choices, and they self sabotage and they do things that are kind of frowned upon in society, and yet I love them, these women, and it’s like, if I can love these women for all their flaws, then maybe I'm okay too. And I think that we, we have to allow women to be flawed and lovable instead of just being cute little heroines that kind of support men at all times. I mean, it’s changed so much, that’s kind of, like the old, the old order of what it used to be, like, but yeah, it’s exciting.
Dana: That happe- That was what was written in my yearbook! Just, Dana Piccoli, flawed but lovable.
Jaime: Ah! [laughs]
Dana: So I totally, I totally can appreciate that.
Jaime: Was it that? Was it- that would be the best!
Dana: [laughs] I love that.
Jaime: Flawed and lovable, not but.
Dana: Oh yeah, yes, flawed and lovable, sorry, sorry. That’s, that’s what, that’s where I went wrong in the yearbook.
Jaime: Exactly.
Dana: Uh, J- Jaime. A lot has been made of this, the apples scene.
Jaime: Yes.
Dana: Do you think I smell apples is basically saying “I love you”? Were you, what do you think that Helena was trying to express at that time?
Jaime: I, I, I think that it was, um, a sense of, uh, acceptance, and, um, and, and, and, and, and love, I mean, uh, because Helena had always been such a, kind of a troubled character in so many ways and she had kind of, um, these struggles and this darkness and these mental health issues and I think that “I smell apples” was a, a, a wa- wa- was, she, she’d kind of come to the light, you know, she, she had, had kind of accepted herself, and it was such an altruistic act of love, she was sacrificing herself in order to save the others, that it was true love, like she’d overcome the darkness. So it was, uh, I, I, I, I, love that, uh, moment, yeah, that kind of-
Jo: I know we wanted, uh, one of the most beautiful definitions of love onscreen is recognition of your soul in someone else.
Dana: Mhmm.
Jo: That’s really what happens, and I thought that when Jaime did that, there was a very beautiful, I mean it’s sort of like Romeo and Juliet. You see this moment of, and we talked about it earlier, that energy, that to me is that. what that is-
Jaime: Yes.
Jo: -the scene is, “I smell apples.” It’s these two people who see each other in each other and are profoundly connected, whether, in whatever way that it is, it’s just a profound connection, you know, and so often we find boxes to put these connections in, you know, as humans, we want to make sense, we want to make logic of them, you know, which is, I think, um, why storytelling suffers in the representation, because you want to define what a thing is and kind of, um, the most beautiful things about some of the most special relationships is they, they're beyond what you can say they are, they’re beyond categorization, they are, you know...
Jaime: I, I, I definitely think that, although it wasn’t written in that way, I mean, if you actually go back and look at the footage, I’m saying “I love you” to, uh, uh, HG is saying “I love you” to Myka and Myka is is let-
Jo: I only think that’s what she was saying.
Jaime: -letting, letting it land.
Dana: Confirmation, folks! Confirmation, um, everyone!
Jo: In here. [points to head]
Dana: Write it in your vows, write it now in your vows!
Jo: Dana, you’re funny! [laughs]
Dana: Thank you!
Jaime: But wh- when, when did I come back and I was like, married to, what-
Dana: You, you weren't married, you were with a gentleman, and he had a, a young child and-
Jaime: And he was a bit of a drip as well!
Jo: And the house was very suburban, that’s all I remember was, I like walked into this house and I was like-
Jaime: That was, was that, I don’t really know the chronological, um, ordering, but like, I had like a ponytail, and I had a, possibly-
Jo: You were probably like driving a minivan.
Dana: You were teaching, you were teaching, weren’t you?
Jaime: Cause wasn’t I [indecipherable]
Jo: It’s okay, Jaime, I [indecipherable]
Dana: You were like in Phoenix or something.
Jaime: Yeah so, so what was that, after a bit I, so like “I smell apples” was the ending of my character, right? So like that, was that after a bit-
Dana: Right, and then you got rev- you were brought back-
Jaime: Right.
Dana: And then you kind of disappeared for a bit.
Jaime: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dana: Yes. Yeah, um-
Jaime: Yeah.
Dana: The, um, the, the, uh, the fans [laughs] were, um, confused by that, were like what?
Jaime: I d- I’m confused, I’m confused! [laughs]
Jo: Not just the fans, not just the fans.
Jaime: Well, I actually, um, I, I, I really want to go back and see that scene, um, I, I feel like you came to, I don’t, I was living in like suburbia-
Dana: Mhm.
Jaime: And, and didn’t you come to-
Jo: I don't remember.
Jaime: -the house and I, I think you came to-
Jo: I remember that horrible house though, because it was like, it… [makes disgusted face]
Jaime: It was so weird and I was like hello, I’m kind of like a completely different woman!
Jo: It was like very Stepford, I like, I walked in and, I don’t know why Myka was so accepting, I would’ve taken a baseball bat to the house, gonna be like, we’re leaving!
Jaime: So, so, so, so, I, so I, Jack, so Jack, Jack-
Jo: Get out of here, you drank the Kool Aid!
Jaime: I remember Jack was there and I was like, um, uh, oh, like this, like, like this doesn't work because of this and this doesn’t work because of that, and I was having a little, kind of like a creative difference with him, and, and he left for the day, he left for the day, and I really want to go back and see that s- that, that scene, because I remember I was asking him if I could, yeah, I know it’s, it says this but could I play it like this? And I do- I remember he didn’t want me to for the storyline, but I remember he left. [laughs] So I’d love to go back and see, I, I remember think- feeling like I was quite naughty, that I actually got away with it, but, uh-
Dana: Oh, I am loving all the subversive shit that was happening behind the scenes. [laughs]
Jaime: Yeah. [laughs]
Jo: Do you remember the park bench as well? Remember that scene, it was-
Jaime: Oh, yeah, a bench.
Jo: Wasn’t that a bench?
Jaime: Oh, that was a love scene, that was a love scene.
Jo: That was a, yeah, we really went for that one. [all laugh]
Jo: Everyone was like, what? And I’m like, well, we’re doing it. Might as well!
Jaime: [laughs] And we’re in like, Toronto, and everyone behind the camera, like, they’re very blokey, and it’s not in the script, and then they're like, “oh I didn’t, they’re, they’re, oh I didn’t see that coming!” [laughs]
Jo: They were like, what are you guys doing? We’re like, we’ll figure it out! [laughing]
Jaime: Exactly! We’re just doing our own thing. [laughs]
Dana: Oh, a little, a little mutiny, a little bit! [laughs] Well we, we, we’ve ha- we’ve had such incredible conversation so far, and I have so many fan questions for you, and if we were onstage everyone would get to come up to the mic-
Jaime: Aw.
Dana: -and ask you questions, but I do have a bunch of questions that were sent in, um, so I do want to get to your fans, because your fans are so integral to keeping this like-
Jo: That’s why we’re here.
Dana: -story alive. Uh, let’s see here. Let’s kick it off. Alright, so wellsbering wants to know, what personality traits do you share with your characters?
Jaime: Well I think, I think that, um, I, uh, definitely always get cast as the baddie for whatever reason, but then I think that, um, really the quirky mess that I, I, I morphed into is basically me. [all laugh]
Jo: I like that answer, that’s great. Um, I, uh, am very A-type when it comes to certain things, and Myka very much, I’m very like, flowy, Myka wa- didn’t flow, but there are certain parts of my life where I’m not flowy around. My work is one of them, writing is another one. Um, and I’m very afraid of letting people down. I think that’s why I've been, I was te- telling a lot of the people that I was talking to today that, you know, the reason I didn’t do this a lot when the show was on, I couldn’t understa- i was like, why do people wanna meet me? They're gonna meet me and be disappointed.
Dana: Ohhhh.
Jo: Yeah.
Dana: I think everyone thinks that though, I think that’s very common.
Jo: I think tha- yeah, I think that’s the human condition, right?
Dana: Yes.
Jo: Um, but, but I think Myka and I share that sort of reserve, you know, that thing where you’re like I don’t, no, don’t get too close. I’m like a Monet, stay back. [laughs]
Jaime: And I, I think that was part of the chemistry as well, it’s like, you have that kind of like, you know, protectio- protective-
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: -kind of like, edge. And so it’s like, if, I think that i- in a way, the gift that we had by it not being written for us is, if had been written we would’ve, the characters would’ve made each other, um, accessible to each other far too quickly. It was like the slow burn of, Myka could be quite prickly, and my character was completely messed up so it was kind of like, this kind of like energy between them where they were kind of like, you know, like working each other out, feeling each other out-
Jo: Is there? Is there an energy there?
Jaime: And then the laughs were well earned, and the smiles, and the deciding to work together was well earned. There was a, a lot of suspicion around each other, and when they opened up or they kind of let their guard down, it was hard earned, and and it was like, you know, something you would wanna rejoice at.
Jo: Yeah, aw, I love that.
Dana: Um, okay, so this is from mayberrycosplay, uh, you may remember mayberrycosplay, I believe one of them dressed as HG at a con, uh-
Jaime: Oh!
Dana: -but they wondered-
Jaime: I’ve seen a few HGs.
Dana: You’ve seen a few HGs.
Jaime: [laughs]
Dana: This is for Jo about, uh, Myka’s experience with ovarian cancer and, uh, like, how the awareness of this silent killer of women, like how that storyline, what that storyline meant to you and how it felt to portray that?
Jo: I was really nervous about that storyline, you know, anything that has affected people and their families and, and it’s always, I, you know, difficult territory to walk as an actor, especially in a show like Warehouse where there's so much happening on such a grand level that I’m like, are they going to pay attention to this? Are they going to really honor a storyline like this? was my concern, you know, like very often things like that are added like, uh, it’s like putting a robot arm on a story, and you're like oh, and by the way, there’s ovarian cancer! And so I was really, you know, concerned about showing up for that and, and, and and serving it in a way that people understood and, and could identify with that, you know, it’s such a catharsis, that’s what I think it’s supposed to be. Um, so it was, uh, I, the fans told me I pulled it off, that’s the only way that I know.
Dana: Well it meant a tremendous amount to, to mayberrycosplay and so that’s why they, they sent that in because it, it really affected them because of their own personal-
Jo: Yeah.
Dana: -you know, family journeys and such.
Jo: Well I’m so, so, thank you, I mean, I’m still wondering, you know, I worked really hard to make sure that was in there. We’ve all lost somebody to cancer, we all know what that’s like, we all know- I mean, I mean, I certainly have, to feel a lump and be like [does the Home Alone face] you know. I have two friends right now who are going through it, so I try to honor it in the best way. I- it’s one of the things that makes me want to be an actor, uh, that I think is so special about it is that you get to tell stories that people, it’s a group catharsis, you know, so I’m glad that, glad they think I, the only thing that, if they think I sh- I showed up then... [laughs] yes, good, good, good.
Dana: Um, let’s see here, cloxy813 wants to know what was your favorite, favorite scene to film together?
Jo: Probably the heaving bosoms scene. I was excited for the heaving bosoms scene, which was all like [mimes placing gun to forehead] kill me!
Jaime: [laughs]
Dana: Hashtag heaving bosoms scene.
Jo: It was so hot that day, I remember my tank top-
Jaime: So hot, oh my god, it was like-
Jo: It was like, my tank top, I would like look down and find, I was like, my boobs are out, um. [laughs] I just saw him sign, them sign, um.
Jaime: We were by that lake, I just wanted to dive in there. It was-
Jo: Yeah, yeah, yeah, but I loved, I loved, I loved doing that scene, I have to say. And, and the chess scene, I remember that.
Jaime: Oh yeah.
Jo: I remember that very well. Um, I really enjoyed my work with Jaime because I, as I said, you know, there’s not a lot of scenes that are two women just being women. It was so, it was like a breath of fresh air and so I, I wasn't, I was, uh, you know, a lot of the times Myka was there to witness Pete-
Jaime: Or, or, or to laugh, or to kind of laugh and sigh at his super funny jokes.
Jo: The funny jokes... um, so, so it was so nice to not ha- be in a scene from that point of view. So often women are are written as accessories-
Jaime: Yeah.
Jo: You know, and, and this was a storyline where I felt like she was a whole person and I could be like a whole, real person, I didn't have to be like-
Jaime: I, I, I, I, I was on a show called Hustle and there was a character on it called Danny Blue, and he had all the funny lines, and one of the refrains that I had was “oh Danny. Oh Danny,” where every time he said something cheeky or naughty or a joke I’d go “oh Danny,” and I remember just being so excited to get the job, but then after awhile like me saying “oh Danny” really wore thin, especially as off camera I feel like I was more witty! [laughs] In that space I was much more funny, but all the funny was written for him, and I was going “oh Danny.” So when I came in I really, I kind of, um, you know, I knew the frustration of playing the, kind of, you, you know-
Jo: Straight man.
Dana: The “oh Danny.”
Jo: -if you were playing, right, right, the brainiac, uptight brainiac, and Pete had all the funny lines, so obviously we were in a lot of scenes with the rest of the cast and keeping the story going, but I felt as though all the character stuff that we had as, as women came from the scenes when we were on our own, and obviously that first scene with the grappler, um, you know, was, it was kind of the first scene where I’d been playing kind of like a little, kind of kind of like sneaky little looks and curiosity and fascination with this woman-
Dana: Yeah, we noticed.
Jaime: And, but, but, I, but, it wasn’t until the grappler scene that I thought that, that i was starting to get this, kind of, this chemistry going, and then there was a scene, do you remember the scene where I didn’t know how to work a computer or open it, it was like a, I was like a monkey-
Jo: Yeah [laughs] yeah.
Jaime: I was like a, it was like, I didn’t know what this is, we were-
Dana: Well, I mean in, in f- in fairness you had been in bronze for a long time.
Jaime: -we were in like a stu- a student room, a student's room, it was-
Jo: Yeah, we were at the college, we were at U of T.
Jaime: And, and. and we’d, it was the first time we’d deci- you’d, you’d kind of begrudgingly decided that we could work together, and HG was kind of a little thrilled, and you were a bit begrudging and-
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: There was all, we, we still had to, ‘cause like, in sci-fi there’s a lot of storyline and exposition and kind of fantastical stuff, which is super fun, but actually as actors you really get excited about the character stuff and there was always just this great character stuff whenever we were on our own with a scene-
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: -um, because we didn’t have to worry so much about servicing all the other characters, we just serviced each other.
Dana: Well, you know, there are only two kinds of queer women. It is thrilling or begrudging, it’s one or the other. [all laugh]
Dana: They fit perfectly in there.
Jaime: I mean maybe that’s why it resonated so well, and maybe it was the reason it was so great, that it wasn’t written, because you had these two kind of like, kind of sli- slightly spiky kind of like flawed women, kind of like o- one, you know, one not particularly into the other at all, you know, so-
Jo: It was interesting, I still remember, I still remember receiving that energy and receiving that stuff and realizing, sort of plotting, cause I’m like, how long would it take Myka to figure this out?
Jaime: [laughs]
Jo: Seriously, I was like, cause, Joanne is not her,, I’m, you know, I’m wasn’t in the box that she, I always thought, Jack’s like, you’re exactly like that character, I’m nothing, I’m not- [laughs] I mean there’s a part of me that’s uptight but there's a part of me that’s most definitely not, so I was like how, and I really wanted to do the discovery of it within her, the like, this, the, this feeling started, and then her sort of, and M-Myka to me as a character as a whole was always somebody who was afraid, this is somebody who was always very scared of everything and presented themselves in this very [mimes acting stuffy and uptight] way because there was so much going on here [gestures to heart] and it was slow in the five seasons, I really wanted her to like, you know, relax and start laughing and not be so, and I was like, there’s a certain amount of wonder that was like-
Jaime: Endless wonder.
Jo: -ohhhh, ohhhhh, ohhhh, like you kind of see her, one of the things about that journey is you start to see her discover sort of herself and her own feeling surrounding that, which I thought was really special.
Jaime: And also you, um, you, you kind of ended up, you, you know, HG was kind of like a tricky character and she was always one step ahead, um for, that first season, but then when she started to fall apart, you were the one that kind of put her together, and then I felt like there was also this humor introduced, this lightness introduced to your character through the humor el- elements-
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: -and the surprise, which was, um, really lovely for your character.
Jo: Yeah, I, I think for m- for me, you know, it was a decision I made like in season two that I k- she had to evolve and grow and sort of, um, I couldn’t, I was, I was, I was like, I can’t keep coming to work and putting a giant stick up my ass [laughs] like we’re doing, like I need just to like expand her and go towards her relaxing and really finding, I think for her the big thing was always finding connection, you know, this-
Dana: Sure.
Jo: -we, we see in the beginning of the show is, it’s very cut off, very isolated, very like, and I, she lost her partner, that was, when I read that script, immediately I was like, this is someone who’s so scared of losing people again that she’s never gonna let anyone else in, and that was sort of like my understanding of her. And when Jaime came on, it was such a great way to explore that, Myka opening, you know, as feelings developed, her opening, you know-
Dana: Well, that, the growth, the character journey that both of your, your characters went on, I think that is what makes the show still so enduring to fans, like why they feel so connected to it, because we do, we saw that journey, you know, both of you had your own journeys to go on and you somehow managed to cross, cross paths, and it may not have ended the way fans had wanted it to, but we still go so much out of it.
Jo: I’m so glad.
Dana: I wish it was endgame, but what can I do?
Jaime: We, we, we need a spinoff show for Jo and I, we, we need a spinoff show.
Dana: Okay, yes, the spinoff, okay! You need to talk about that because-
Jaime: Who do we need to talk to to make that happen?
Dana: I got in a lot of trouble on Twitter yesterday for not asking a spinoff question, uh, what, like, what would a spinoff look like between between HG and Myka?
Jo: I think it would be have, to be now, which we-
Dana: Yeah.
Jo: And we’d have to get her, there’s no ponytails in this story, there’s no suburbs, there’s no fucking ponytails, um, no-
Jaime: I won- I won- I wonder if, um, it could be now, but, or, I wonder if I, I had to come in for a mission and then I actually pulled you back into my time, that might be an interesting way to turn it on its head.
Dana: Ooh, Jaime Murray, there we go!
Jaime: If we both had to go back-
Dana: I love me some period.
Jaime: -into my time or you know what made me think that [she does the Jaime Murray hair flip™] what I-
Jo: [laughs]
Jaime: I saw that, I saw that ne- The Nevers-
Jo: I miss that hair flip!
Jaime: -the, the, the a- the adverts for The Nevers on HBO, and I’m like that is the HG Wells spinoff right there, and I was like super fucked that I wasn’t in that, and then I read that Joss Whedon was a consultant and I was like [inaudible] really bad, so, but, anyway I think that that’s what we should do. I, I’m also obsessed with that time period.
Jo: I mean, yeah, and also like it was real, yeah-
Jaime: It was the beginning of ps-
Jo: Yeah.
Jaime: -psychology, of like Tesla, of of like different thoughts, there was like, they were like spiritual, um, kind of scientists and atheism and there was all it this opportunity for change, which actually wasn’t taken, but it was actually, it’s super interesting right at the time, there was suffragettes-
Jo: Also a fish out of water for me would be so wacky, because I’m a fish out of water too, alright.
Dana: I’m curious if yo all saw the Saturday Night Live sketch the other, uh, last week with, uh, lesbian period drama-
Jaime: Oh!
Dana: -and how, how every lesbian, like anything that features lesbians now has to be- [laughs]
Jaime: Well have you e- have you ever-
Dana: -it’s like the Edwardian or, like the Edwardian times.
Jaime: Have you guys read Sarah Waters, do you know this?
Dana: Oh, of course!
Jaime: Like, so, and maybe that is actually what helped me get to HG Wells, but I loved those books when-
Dana: Oh, they’re so amazing.
Jaime: -I was growing up and I feel like we should make those o- we should remake one of those b- Jo, you’ve got to read those books, and then-
Jo: I’m writing it down! I’m taking notes!
Jaime: Oh, it’s amazing.
Dana: You two would be amazing in her most recent one.
Jaime: She writes these amazing Edwardian, Edwardian kind of wanton lust and then there’s like, like the vervain or whatever, that kind of drug that they used to take back then-
Jo: Opium?
Jaime: -so it’s like slightly, kind of like psychedelic, oh, it’s amazing, yeah, she’s amazing.
Dana: [laughs] Well, we unfortunately are out of time, and it’s been so much fun to talk to the two of you, and I, I love the love that you have for your characters, for your friendship, for the fans, uh, it’s, it’s so lovely to see, and thank you so much for making this work in your schedules, I know you’re both super busy doing your own projects, um, and I want to think Mark. Mark, you’re amazing, thank you so much for, for interpreting.
Jaime: Thank you, Mark!
Jo: Thank you, Mark!
Dana: Um, do you have anything you want to end with, to say to the, to the Bering lesbians out there?
Jaime: Well, first of all, I want to say that, um, if anyone sends me messages to, you know, pictures or anything that that Jo needs to see, I’ll make sure that Jo, Jo gets it, ‘cause she’s not on social media, and I’ll, I’ll share stuff with her so that she can kind of know the love from the community.
Dana: Yeah, great.
Jo: I think, um, I’m actually gonna try to put together a newsletter because I’m trying to get my shows made and I could use this community, you know, to help-
Dana: Oh, we will support you to the end! We will march off that cliff with you.
Jaime: I could help you make a Twitter account, just for our community.
Jo: I don’t wanna do Twitter, I wanna do a newsletter. [laughs] I don’t wanna, I don’t know how many characters are in it, but it’s not enough. [laughs]
Jaime: But Jo, Jo, you have to actually read some of the fanfiction. The fanfiction is epic.
Jo: I have a book that I got, somebody wrote a book-
Jaime: Unbelievable, oh my god.
Jo: -like a novel.
Jaime: They’re brilliant, these people are brilliant, like best fans ever.
Dana: There is some really incredible work out there.
Jaime: Well, do you want to-
Jo: I just wanted to say thank you to everyone, um, you know, I don’t do these very often, and just like, the outpouring of love, like just the connection, I really appreciate it, I’m so grateful, so thank you.
Jaime: Yeah, it’s such a beautiful community. I feel really proud to have been welcomed into it and, uh, very grateful.
Dana: Well, we’ll hope to see you another time, and thank you all who turned in to this panel. [Jaime blows kisses]
Jo: Thank you.
Jaime: Bye, guys.
Dana: Do you smell apples?
Jaime: Bye, Jo, I love you so much.
Jo: Do you smell apples? I love you too. [blows kiss] I’ll talk to you soon.
Jaime: Yes, I’ll see you later. Bye bye, darlings.
Jo: Bye.

Je T'aime | Yandere! Joy
Tumblr media
Summary: When your childhood bully won't let go of you.
Warning: manipulation, abuse of power, controlling relationship, jealousy, mention of killing
wc: 1.5K
This is was inspired by my favorite song Je T'aime by Hey. When I found out that Joy did a cover of that song, I got the creativity to create this. I wanted to get all of this out of my head, so it may feel a bit rushed in some areas.
Tumblr media
You were in the library when you felt someone put their hands over your eyes. “Guess Who?”
“Hmmm.” You joked as you tapped your finger on your chin. “Is it…Namjoon?”
Your eyes were uncovered the second you said that. You laughed at Joy’s angry expression. “I told you not to mention him.”
“Sorry, sorry. What brings you here.”
“What do you mean what brings me here? It’s our night out.” Joy gasps.
“I’m sorry Joy, I don’t think I can do it tonight. Namjoon was supposed to be tutoring me, but I’ve been waiting for like thirty minutes.”
“I’m one of the smartest kids in the school. I’m in the Top 10 you know. Why didn’t you ask me?” Joy pouted.
You laughed at her outburst. “First of all, your parents would sue the school if you weren’t in Top 10, so that doesn’t really mean much.”
Joy's father was the CEO of a famous luxury brand, while her mom is a retired actress who was popular in the late 80's and 90's. Her parents had more money than you and your family could ever dream of. Growing up bouncing around from different relative’s basements made a lot of the kids at school growing up, make fun of you.
Especially Joy.
In 4th grade, is when she would begin to make your life a living hell. She would steal your lunch money and give you foods that she knew you were allergic to. She would constantly call you fat and make rude comments about you to her friends.
It got worse in 10th grade, when she made an announcement over the PA system that whoever talked, touched, or even looked at you would get beat up. She bought you and her matching rings at cost more than $1000, and would make you wear it all the time. She bought you clothes, gave you money, and even managed to convince her parents to buy your family an apartment with three bedrooms and a balcony.
She basically owned you. You weren’t allowed to go out on the weekends because of her security guards guarding your apartment door. When you did try to leave the apartment, which you never succeeded, you would be taken by the guards to the Park Mansion and have to sit on Joy’s lap as you two watched a movie, as punishment.
You hated the power she had, you always did, she even forced you to go to the same college that she was going to, by threatening to hurt your Aunt Irene.
You reluctantly agreed to her ‘idea’, not wanting to hurt your family members that helped your family so much.
So now you followed Joy around the campus like a little puppy, while everyone else thought that you guys were just close friends who liked being near each other.
“And second of all.” you continued. “We are supposed to be working on a project together.”
Joy furrowed her eyebrows while thinking. A project? With a boy?! She thought she had already told all of your professors to not give you any partners at all. Especially a boy.
“I know what your thinking.” Y/N claimed, seeing the looked on Joy’s face. “But we went to London for a whole month, and this was a month-long project. I can’t do it alone.”
“Fine, then I’ll help you.” Joy suggested.
“But Namjoon has to get this grade too.”
“Why do you worry about other people so much, come on let’s just start this.”
You and Joy spent all night, researching, printing, and decorating your poster board. By the time you guys were finished it was 2 a.m.
“Well, that was quicker than I expected. I guess I’ll have to make a new reservation for tomorrow.” Joy sighed. “Let’s go home.” She said as she intertwined your hands and walke out the library.
Tumblr media
As part of the deal, Joy had you move into a luxury 2-bedroom apartment that was about an hour away from campus. Joy demanded insisted that you shouldn’t use public transportation anymore because now, with the help of her money, you were worth a lot. Throughout your high school experience, Joy never let you get a driver’s license, so she has the pleasure of driving you to and from campus, always knowing your whereabouts.
You looked out the car window without having anything to do. As punishment for talking to a boy, Joy had taken your phone claiming that the only person you needed to talk to was always right beside you. “What do you want to eat.” She asked you.
“McDonald’s.” You say robotically. McDonald’s was the only fast food place that Joy allowed you to eat. It was the place she found your family at in 10th grade.
It was on a rainy day that your Aunt Irene had kicked you, your parents, and your little brother out of her basement for being a burden, which you didn’t understand because just a week ago your Aunt had said you all staying there was the best thing to happen for her since her illness was starting to worsen.
So, with no where to go and barely any money, your parents took you all to McDonald’s to split one box of 20 piece chicken nuggets, and 4 small drinks for each member of the family.
As you were told by Joy, her family's trailer had broken down on the way back home from the airport, so Joy offered to walk to the nearest building while her parents berated the driver. The nearest place just so happened to be the McDonald’s you and your family were at.
You instantly recognized Joy when she walked through the door, just like how Joy instantly recognized you. She sat a table across from the booth your family was at, and pulled out her phone. Gosh, were you so amazed. You had never had a phone before. Your parents only had one that they shared, and you didn’t have friends (because of Joy’s rules) to let you use theirs. Joy smiled at you awe-filled eyes and continued talking on the phone.
You didn’t even realize that you were staring at her until your mom slapped your wrist and told you to stop. When the phone call ended, Joy stood up and walked towards your table. You looked at the ground, afraid that she too would scold you. “Hello L/N’s. I’m Park Sooyoung.” She started. You heard a gasp in front of you and looked at your parents, who were looking at the entrance doors. A tall man wearing a suit, and a woman carrying a Chanel bag. Walked through the door.
Joy looked back and laughed. “Oh, those are my parents.” They came up to your booth, both shoke hands your parents and stood behind Joy. ”We wanted to give your family a place to stay, would you let us.” You mother, being the biggest fan of Joy’s mother growing up instantly nodded, while your father thought about it for a few seconds before evening his Wife’s beautiful smile. A smile he hadn’t seen since their wedding day. He agreed as well.
That night was significant to you because not only did your family get a place to reside, but it was also the first time that Joy was nice to you. Since that day she started treated you better, still not letting you talk to anyone else, but she was nice.
Although Joy would never tell you this, it was that night that she fell in love with you, completely.
Tumblr media
After eating. You and Joy got into the bed that you two shared. Yes there were two bedrooms in your apartment, but you couldn’t sleep in a room by yourself.
You had slept in a room with somebody your whole life, it felt uncomfortable. So on the first week of living here, you asked Joy if you could sleep with her, even okay with sleeping on the ground. Joy let you into her bed, and sang you to sleep.
That became your routine every night after that. However tonight was different, you feel asleep the minute you got into bed. Joy snuck out of the bed and turned you alarm off. You didn’t need to go to school tomorrow, you wouldn’t have time anyways. Her makeup crew that were going to come today were rescheduled to come tomorrow. The day she had been waiting for since that night was going to happen.
All of you and her family members were going to be at that restaurant and would watch as she would get down on one knee, just like in the romance movies, and propose to you. Just thinking about tomorrow made her heart flutter. Yes, she was furious about the change of plans today, but she would never take it out on you. Instead, she took it out on that Namjoon guy behind the library. Ugh! Just thinking about him getting close to you was sickening. She had her men take care of his body for her.
She kissed your cheek and whispers in your ear, “I love you.”
Everything was set in her plan. She loved you, and you…would have no choice but to love her. You were hers after all. Hers to love.

Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for writing Limerence, it’s an amazing story and I love all the extra drabbles and things! Also if you have time could you do another drabble with the vampire Zuko au, maybe some smut?
Tumblr media
AU: Limerence (Vampire AU)
Pairing: Zuko x Fem. OC (Ying Yue Jiang)
Masterlist
Tumblr media
It was always a curiosity of mine—an itching piece of knowledge I just had to know, especially now.
The concept of vampires, blood-lusting creatures, was already a mystical idea that only existed in horror films. Evil, underworldly creatures of the night that you should always fear and keep a clove of garlic in hand. But that panic quickly turned into curiosity.
A curiosity that Zuko has told me many times would get me killed.
But that’s why I had him by my side, right? Catching me after every stumble, giving scary looks to anyone that seemed a bit odd. It appears that Zuko’s fondness towards me had gathered quite the attention from the vampire community. From seeing and knowing zero vampires to a few dozen.
Some came seeking, curious souls like me. Wanting to know how I managed to get their Vampire King under wraps. In contrast, some came to me for some more sinister reasons.
Either way, it didn’t change the way I felt for Zuko. Nor the question I had in mind as I stared while he ate like some creep. His teeth were so pearly white; they could blind. But those four long fangs of his-
Sharp to the touch, glimmering under the candlelight dinner.
I knew how they felt against my skin. His kisses over my neck, my shoulders, but he never did bite me. Whenever he found himself become cruder, gentle caresses turning into eager nibbles where his fangs would press to the point you would think he would pierce the skin, he always backed away. And I always bit my tongue to stop myself from begging, to experience that roughness that always just skimmed the surface.
It was as if he was fearful of breaking the skin- taste my blood.
A part of me was intrigued to know how it would feel to have him bite my skin. Was it as orgasmic or painful as the movies portray? And from that lead to another question to another and another. My mind buzzed like a bee, and Zuko mused to himself.
Picking at my pasta, watching him absentmindedly-
“Love?” Zuko spoke, and I jumped despite his gentle tone, fork dropping. It rattled against the plate as I cheekily apologized, and Zuko snickered, “If only I could read minds, the things I would learn.”
My blush deepened because that would be terrible. He didn’t need to know the ideas I had about him. While most of them were harmless, I couldn’t stop that bubble of lustful intentions that would randomly come to mind at the worst of times.
Like now.
“I-it’s nothing important.”
“Mm, I’m not too sure, love. You seem pretty preoccupied, so tell me.”
“No.” I huffed, poking at my pasta with a pout.
I wouldn’t dare say it to Zuko because it really was so stupid. As if this was some cliche movie with a low budget. I chewed on the pasta and swallowed, my fingers toying with the red wine Zuko had brought when he came over.
But Zuko sported a giant grin the whole time. He was watching me flush and struggle to take a sip from my glass. Get it together, Yue! Taking much too big of a gulp from the dark-coloured wine that I already knew was far too expensive.
Yet the longer his golden eyes stared, the more flustered I got because Zuko’s eyes were piercing. Staring straight through to my soul, but they were so gorgeous. I didn’t know if it was because he was a vampire, but it always left me breathless. His eyes were like molten gold, pulling, drawing me deeper.
Paired with his smile, his husky voice-
“Let’s make a deal, love.” Zuko purred, and I raised a brow, curiosity once again getting the best of me.
“What kind of deal?” I invited, and Zuko’s grin grew because he knew exactly what to say to pull me into his trap.
I’m an idiot. A fact I always knew but gosh, did my level of stupidity seem to grow whenever it came to me wanting to know something. Dad always told me I should’ve been an investigator. Well, that was until he took back his words because I'll most likely get myself into a world of trouble - and he wasn’t exactly wrong.
Zuko leaned back on his chair, spreading his legs wide as his arms crossed in front of his chest, “You tell me what’s on your mind.”
“And?”
“I’ll answer truthfully.”
“And what makes you think it’s even about you?” I poked, and Zuko shook his head, that cocky expression on his face, “Because I saw the way you were staring at my lips.”
"Well, that doesn't seem like much of a deal to me." I huffed, trying to seem indifferent.
Zuko laughed.
His large hands fell over his knees, slowly rising from his chair with a dominant crawl. The fork I held to my lips began to drop, unable to take a bite because Zuko had this air of power around him. Effortless, taking easy-going steps with a handsome smirk, his eyes planning.
"You're right, love." Zuko hummed, his fingers dragging along the edge of my dining table, before finally stopping beside me. Once again, he bore those sharp fangs, not afraid of me seeing and retracting to seem 'normal' like he often did with others.
But it was embarrassing how attracted I was to those damn fangs. My lips parting, gawking, twisting myself in my chair so my knees could face him. If only I could know-
Zuko's face leaned towards mine, his breath mixed with the wine fanning my face.
"It may not seem like much of a deal to many. But to you, my curious human, it is worth a bag of gold and more. So let's skip the games, love, and tell me. What's on your mind?"
I found myself frozen.
Zuko's words were hitting me full force because he was right, and I hated it with a burning passion. My breath caught in my throat as my hands flopped over my lap. I was clasping onto the fabric of my skirt with a death grip.
"I can hear your heartbeat. It's racing." Zuko snickered; his eyes were not wavering from mine.
My shyness intensified tenfold, but- this is my chance. Probably my only chance. I could easily blame it on the glass of wine I had. Say it was my drunken mind, get the answer to my foolish question.
"Ask, love." Zuko edged.
With a nibble, I tried to push the reality of such a plan away.
He's not that stupid to fall for such a lie. I wouldn't get drunk over half a glass of wine, but it didn't matter. At this moment, I had fooled myself into believing it or else I couldn't ask what I always wanted to know.
"I’m waiting,” he whispered, like the call of a siren.
He was encouraging my need to know, spotting the cracks of my resolve. A second more, another plea, letting his tongue run over the sharp tip of his fangs as he loomed above-
"Does the blood of a virgin taste better than other...types?"
It took me a moment to realize that the blurted question, rushed in speech, came from me. My cheeks heating, a wash of shame flooding the room as the closeness of our faces let me see Zuko’s reaction in its purest form.
For a split second, his pretty eyes widened. Undoubtedly taken aback from the question, but before I could slap myself silly, I froze. As quick as he was to be shocked, I watched how his expression fell. As if...as if he was-
Letting out a light laugh, Zuko shook his head. His eyes fell downwards as his shoulders shook with the utmost amusement before letting his gaze rest over me again.
“What an interesting question, love,” he purred. His large hand running up my leg, toying with the edge of my skirt, fingers warming the skin of my thighs, “I think the better question is why ask? Is there something you wish to share with me?”
I swallowed.
We had only known each other for a few weeks. Our relationship, fresh. It was like those cliche love movies, love at first sight. We had an emotional connection, seemingly understanding without uttering a word. But that didn’t mean we didn’t have physical chemistry.
But I stared at Zuko with a lost gaze; it finally hit me.
I never told him I was the poster child of innocence. Zuko was the second guy I had ever kissed, and the first guy I had ever made out with. And naturally, I had to pick a vampire, of all people, to experience the rest of my firsts. Those long fangs, highlighting and glistening under the light-
“I thought I was the one asking questions?” I tried to argue, putting on a brave face as Zuko glowed.
A sly, devilish grin that had me holding my breath because it was so wrong. How a single look had me melting, my resolve wavering as his fingers continued to crawl up my thigh. Finally, I took a deep breath, sounding like a meek whine, and Zuko’s eyes darkened.
“Fine. The blood of a virgin isn’t what tempts a vampire. Some silly rumour spread by brothels back in the day to get women to work. But that isn’t what you want to know.”
“W-what do you mean?”
“There isn’t a damn thing you want to know as much as you want to experience. I can fucking smell it.”
It was then I realized how tightly my thighs clenched each other. My cheeks were blushing, trying to strip my gaze away because I was exposed. Worse than Zuko reading my thoughts - he could smell me.
How did I forget? Let such a common-sense fact slip from my mind all this time. Vampires had heightened scenes, especially smell and taste. A slickness was starting to seep, fidgeting in my chair because the look on Zuko’s face was one I had never seen before.
He looked hungry.
Both of his hands firmly pressed on my thighs, parting my legs as his nose brushed against mine, “Did you know our top fangs and bottom fangs serve different purposes, love?”
I couldn’t speak- shaking my head, unable to pull from his touch. It was intimidating how his chest rose and fell, the muscles in his arms tensing.
“The tops are the painful ones. We use it to drain our food dry. A cruel fate, because unlike what people think, there is no numbing agent.”
He flashed me a menacing smile.
I could see his fangs in all their glory; not even the sharpest knife or sword could compare. It was like a game to him. Placing a much too modest kiss over my nose all while he moaned with growing wickedness.
Perfectly gripping the thickness of my thighs. The pads of Zuko’s digits digging into my skin, his chaste kisses moving downward. Falling over my cupid’s bow, I whimpered as I shivered in my chair.
Overwhelmed yet not satisfied. Feeling the sting from his unforgiving clutch below while his kisses were too tame.
“Zuko-” I whimpered, unsure of what I was asking for, and he snickered, “Be a good lil’ human and listen.”
I moaned.
Never have I heard him demand to assert his dominance in such a way. I was thankful that I was already sitting because I would’ve swooned. Nodding eagerly, wanting to seek his approval, Zuko smiled graciously.
His hands were sliding further up my thighs, now perfectly hidden under my skirt, “Good girl. Now tell me, what fangs do I have to explain next, hmm?”
“Y-your bottom fangs.” I panted.
He was letting his tongue run along them to affirm my statement. A part of me glowed in happiness, to make him satisfied, to answer correctly.
“That’s right, love. And these fangs are special.”
“Why?” I gasped, my feet pressing onto the hardwood under us so my toes turned white.
With his touch, getting closer to my core, I felt myself dripping on the wooden chairs we sat on. Spoiled with my dirtiness and the embarrassment of knowing Zuko could smell it-
“Guess, love.”
I huffed because Zuko slyly slid down on his knees before my own; his large hands spread my legs with one push. My skirt rolled up my body and sat along my hips, and I couldn’t stop the shy protest.
I was exposed, Zuko licking his lips as he stared at my soiled panties like it was desert, “Zuko-”
“Guess.”
“I-I don’t know,” I cried.
I was trembling in my spot because I didn’t know what was going to happen next. Everything was happening so fast, willingly weak and submitting, as my thighs tried to close. But Zuko's effortless grip kept them from doing so.
His hold, overpowering despite not even trying, “You’re so wet, love; I can practically taste you in the air.”
My blush deepened, whimpering as he had no shame in staring. The fabric was sticking to my slit, outlining everything I had to offer. My hands were clutching the base of my chair, knuckles white as I fought to breathe.
“P-please tell me,” I whispered, and Zuko slowly leaned towards my knee.
His lips caressed the skin, a jolt running up my whole body. A mess, soft kisses, but he deliberately let me feel the drag of his fangs after each pull.
“We use them for mating.”
“Mating?” I repeated, and Zuko paused for a moment, nodding, “The person who we choose to spend the rest of our lives with. A bite of both our bottom and tops and it is a rather pleasurable experience.”
My brows pinched together because it didn’t make any sense. Hitching a breath as I felt his kisses just barely move up my thigh all while I tried to think-
“B-but you said that it hurts.” I rushed. My eyes shut as his fingers dug into my skin. Somehow spreading my legs further, luring me closer to his face.
If only I could pinch myself. It was shameful how proud I was in drawing a simple reaction because it meant I did something good. Since when was I so eager to please him?
“You’re right, my sweet human. But you see, what makes our bottom teeth so special is it releases an aphrodisiac.”
My eyes widen—an aphrodisiac.
I knew what that meant all too well, especially with it being peak season for valentines day. Customers were asking for orders of chocolate, strawberries, pomegranate and even figs. Setting the mood for us to cave in to our primal desires - sex.
“If we bite with both our teeth, suck each other’s blood, it leaves a mating mark. But-”
I gulped, not realizing how far his kisses had reached.
His face was right between my legs, causing goosebumps to rise because of the sensation of his heavy breath directing on my drenched panties. I bit my lip; it was embarrassing to see myself unintentionally buck. Zuko was laughing at my vulnerability.
“Some vampires like playing with their food. They give a quick bite to their humans with their bottoms, just enough to inject a small dose,” he spoke.
That cruel smile he wore. His tongue was purposely dragging along his bottom fangs as if teasing.
“But here’s the real treat,” Zuko growled, and this time, he let his hand wander right beside my heat.
“I’ve smelt how wet you get whenever you think I’m about to bite. How your heart races. You don’t care if it were to hurt because I found myself the naughtiness of humans. A lover of pain and I can’t help but wonder what would happen if I bit you with both sets.”
“Zuko-”
“Just thinking about it gets me hard. I want to taste you; I want to see you a mess, lose your mind to pleasure. So tell me, love. Do you willingly submit to me? Let me take everything, do everything, and bite you.”
"Yes."
My head tossed back, arching as my hands fell over his hair.
My fingers were tangled with his locks, unable to stop the moans as my eyes closed shut for the overwhelming pleasure. It felt so good, trembling as Zuko’s beautiful fangs finally pierced my skin.
A sharp pain that turned into sweet torture. Feeling drips of rouge down his chin as he let satisfied groans. Swallowing and licking at the wound like it was the most exquisite taste he had ever experienced.
I was panting.
Every sense heightened as a flush washed over my skin. Sweating and unable to keep my eyes focused. Everything felt good, the hand that rested right beside my covered cunt now throbbing. Silently begging to be touched.
“Zuko, i-it feels- I’m so hot,” I whined, tears bubbling as he let his tongue run along the wound.
The low groan he breathed, “I’ll treat you so well, make you my mate.”
My hands fell over my mouth, squealing.
His hand bunched my panties upwards. The fabric tightened, slipping between my folds, and Zuko’s face quickly lapped at my juices. His tongue fat, teasing my clit over the thin barrier before prodding at my entrance.
I was clenching around nothing, humping his face as tears of utter ecstasy poured. My stomach felt so tense, my thighs shaking as I twitched uncontrollably.
“Z-Zuko-”
“That’s it. Be a good fucking human, mate, and cum for me.”
My eyes widened because I obeyed.
Convulsing, moaning, my vision turning white as I gushed. I couldn’t stop, not realizing that the screams, chanting of his name were coming from me. The whole time Zuko was humming like he was on cloud nine.
I never came as fast as I did whenever I touched myself, his lapping never stopping. Hearing him slurp as my cum dribbled out my twitching cunt. Pulling the fabric tighter, another wave already building before I could even process the first.
“We’re going to have a fantastic night, love," Zuko cooed. Baring his fangs, his eyes searching for a new spot to feast upon, "I hope you don’t mind if I stay the night.”

You were sitting at a stool in the compound’s kitchen when a familiar face walked in. Bucky had eventually explained to you that this was a sort of “headquarters” for the team. You felt a bit foolish having realized you never kept up much with these mighty heroes but you were eager to learn now. So far, you hadn’t encountered anyone you didn’t personally know on this famed team. Even now your eyes landed on the welcoming yet worried face of Steve.
“Morning,” you said, waving your fork before stabbing some of your scrambled eggs. Bucky had insisted on cooking for you despite your assurance you were fine but his cooking skills were....subpar. Still, nothing was inedible and you needed your strength back.
Steve reciprocated the greeting, saying your name with much excitement. “How are you feeling?” He added while making his way to the coffee pot. You chewed your eggs borderline viciously as you debated on an answer.
“I’m okay.” You gave a shrug, staring down at your plate. Part of you wanted to let more out but you ignored it.
Steve came back around to the counter, standing on the other side across from you. He held his coffee cup firmly, nervously almost. You could feel him watching you. That excitement he had said your name with felt like it was evaporating from the room slowly.
“That’s… good,” Steve said. “If you need someone to talk to we have plenty of resources and - and I wanted to say I’m sorry.”
You peaked a glance at him, confused. You placed your fork on the counter. “Sorry? Why are you sorry?”
“I worry I led them right to you,” he explained, “like you two were separated for a reason.”
You frowned. You hadn’t thought about this - heck, you hadn’t thought about blaming anyone other than the disgusted men with such joyous evil looks in their eyes.
“Steve, I don’t think there was any way anyone could’ve prevented this.” You pushed your plate of food away. “They had their sights set. They had a plan, an optimism. It may have just been the soulmate experience in this case,” you sighed. Steve mumbled your name, shaking his head, but you continued, “And that’s fine. Love doesn’t come easy, right?”
“Being kidnapped is not part of being in love.”
“Yeah, well, you don’t have an ex-assassin for a soulmate.”
Steve’s jaw went slack. You were staring him down now, practically begging him to say one more thing.
“It’s going to be okay,” Steve finally settled on. Ever the cool, calm, and collected star-spangled man. “You will recover and it’ll never happen again, we can promise you that.” His voice was serious as if every word ended with a period. You felt tears starting to well in your eyes. You wanted to say something, maybe ask for a hug or just… you didn’t know what, so you just sat there, slumped in your chair like a defeated puppy.
“Everything okay here?” A sudden voice made you jump. You and Steve turned towards the kitchen doorway where Bucky was standing, arms crossed, worry etched all over his face. It seemed to become his permanent expression now. Even when it was just you two, he always appeared on edge.
You nodded, turning back to collect your plate and take it to the sink. “We were just chatting.” You didn’t see the look you just knew Steve and Bucky were sharing.
When you turned back around to face the pair, Bucky had crossed the room, almost close enough to now be hovering over you. You flinched when he went to put a comforting hand on your shoulder. You didn’t know why as you clearly didn’t think he was a threat but hadn’t you seen how threatening he could be? You lowered your head, fighting off the thoughts. He wasn’t like that to you and he had proven it time and time again. Why was it suddenly different?
Before either of the men could comment on your sudden hesitation, you said, “I’m going to go take a shower.” They just nodded, letting you exit.
***
When you got out of the shower and back into the room the team had lent you and Bucky for the time being, Bucky was waiting patiently on the bed. You lingered around the space, picking out some pajamas to wear, acting as normal as you could. You took in the space, still amazed by it. It was fairly large with top-notch amenities, including a luscious bed, spacious dresser, and television from technology you weren’t sure existed for the general public. It even had access to your own grand bathroom, saving you some war flashbacks of the communal restrooms at college.
You dipped back into the bathroom and got changed. While your intimacy with Bucky hadn’t been on the shy side, you weren’t in that kind of mood right now. Rightfully so, you would say.
Emerging once more, you noticed Bucky had made a sort of resting area for you on the bed. Your side was surrounded by blankets upon blankets and soft pillows. He even had a movie queued up for you two to watch. He laid waiting, his eyes practically begging you to come to him. After giving your hair a final wring, you gave in and crawled into the soft bed, letting all of you just melt into it.
“How are y-,”
“Bucky,” you sighed, turning towards him. He was laying on his side, staring down at your curled-up form. “Please don’t ask how I am.”
He nodded. “I get it, doll. I’m just worried about you. You seemed alright yesterday but today…” Yeah. You’d taken a dive. Your whole mood had shifted. Heck, your views on the world had shifted. As dramatic as it seemed, you were having a hard time snapping back. You weren’t even gone for over two days and yet the smallest thing...
“I think it’s just all settling in,” you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper. “Maybe it was just shock yesterday or something but realizing what all happened… Gosh, this probably seems so foolish to you.”
Bucky began shaking his head profusely. As gently as he could, he took your hand in his. You welcomed the action as you shifted under the makeshift mountain of blankets. “Don’t do that, honey. Don’t try to dismiss it or think what you’re feeling is foolish. You went through something so terrifying. You’re allowed to react to it.” He took a deep breath. “When we talked yesterday, I think I thought maybe they hadn’t gotten to you. That nothing had happened that would leave you torn up but you saw… a lot.”
You knew he wasn’t talking about just being exposed to Hydra and their twisted selves. “I did,” you hesitantly agreed. “And I fear it’s going to take a lot to recover.” Your words felt like you were delivering punch after punch to Bucky but where were you going to get if you weren’t honest?
“Anything you need, sweetheart,” he mumbled, his thumb drawing soft patterns on the back of your hand, sending shivers through you. “I’ll do anything to make it better.”
You nodded, averting your gaze to where your hands were connected. Your hand was so tense but you hadn’t even realized you were squeezing his. You relaxed it slightly and Bucky’s motions stopped.
“Bucky,” you mumbled, “can I ask you something?”
He hummed in response.
“What do I offer you?”
You could feel Bucky’s eyes staring you down. No doubt a concerned frown was playing on his lips. “What are you getting at here, honey?”
You shifted uncomfortably. “When I was… you know… the - the older man said that he didn’t understand why we would be paired together. They were determined to figure out what I offer you. What makes me so special.” A beat. “I really don’t know the answer.”
Bucky sighed, shaking his head. You glanced up at him again, his eyes now holding a different kind of anger. You felt bad for doubting yourself but the insecurity from the words of some random guy settled into your brain.
After a thoughtful moment, Bucky spoke, “I don’t think you’ll ever fully understand what you give, not just to me, honey, but the world. You’re so fearless. You’re incredibly understanding. Not to mention how compassionate and bright you are…” His voice cracked slightly, breaking your heart a little. “You force me to remember that I’m not alone and I don’t have to be. And I just really hope I do the same for you.”
You could feel your own tears forming as you shifted just a bit closer to your soulmate. You weren’t quite touching but you could still feel his presence. It was as comfortable as you could get right now and Bucky seemed to respect that.
“I hope I’ll be okay,” you confessed. “Eventually.”
It quite amazed you how fast stuff could change within yourself. You woke up from being rescued with the more extravagant hopes and overwhelming relief of just making it out alive. But then you remembered the price of you making it out alive. What you had to witness to get there. And then the thoughts of actually being back in that position rushed over you. Needless to say, it was weird. Simply weird. Unlike anything you had encountered before.
Bucky soon nodded, encouragingly. You hated putting anything else on him but he had become part of the memories now. It was one thing to see him in dreams and another to watch it just feet away from you.
With a choking sob, he said, “Me too, doll.”
