between all the unrelenting holiday festivities at work and family functions over the next 3 weeks, the wedding i'm a bridesmaid in and the logistics of that, fighting for my actual life trying to avoid every bug imaginable at the germ factory school I work at, and all the crushing general holiday season stress, i actually feel like i can't breathe or complete a single thought before another one interrupts it.

Hongjoong
You and Hongjoong only broke up due to differing career paths, which meant you two barely had time— if any at all, to spend with each other. As the years pass by, you’re much more stable than you were before and with a lot more free time.
But with free time, you tend to think about Hongjoong, which makes you wonder if he thinks of you too.
“Will that be cash or card?” The cashier asked as you had already ordered your drink at a local cafe.
“Cash.” You replied, trying not to feel pressured by the line forming behind you. You opened your wallet to find the cash you were wanting to get rid of but to no avail. The cashier began to get a bit impatient, already stressed about the line.
As you were searching more frantically, the pin pad beeped and a hand had removed his card from the chip reader.
“Thank you.” The all too familiar voice spoke, sending a chill up your spine. You quickly stepped out of the way as Hongjoong had begun to order and pay for his own drink.
With a friendly demeanor, he walked over to where you waited. By this time, you already found the cash you were going to pay for your drink with and held it out towards him, only for him to decline.
You scoffed, slowly retracting your arm with a small smile. “I see you haven’t changed.”
“I see you haven’t either.” Hongjoong joked, poking fun at the way you were trying to offload spare cash, rather than use your card.
You felt the urge to throw your arms around him, but it had been so long that doing so would feel awkward.
“Join me? Let’s catch up.” Hongjoong gestured towards an empty table while you both waited for your drinks.
You had a feeling this wouldn’t be the last time you saw him again.
Seonghwa
Your breakup was mutual, deciding it was for the best. No malice or sadness came from it, although you found yourself thinking about him from time to time.
You moved into a new apartment following the breakup and a year later, you were still there with your roommate.
You hadn’t heard from Seonghwa since your breakup nor did you really speak about him to anyone. He was just another thought in your mind that gave you comfort knowing your past bond with him was real.
You checked the mail while walking your roommate’s dog for them while they were out and started to head back to your unit, not thinking much about the moving vans outside as new people often moved in and out of the complex.
You headed up the stairs with the dog and slid your keys into the keyhole.
“Move slower! I don’t want to trip!” You heard the voice of a male come up the stairs located two doors from your apartment.
You weren’t sure why, but you wanted to see what they were moving up the stairs. But that’s when you saw him, Seonghwa. Your ex-boyfriend. He was on the other end of the couch he was trying to get up the stairs.
Once they were up stairs, you recognized the other guy, Wooyoung. Seonghwa panted, wiping sweat from his forehead before his eyes fell on you.
“You’re my neighbor?” You both said in sync. Seonghwa chuckled at the unison, walking closer to you.
“I was just thinking about you earlier.” Seonghwa confessed, momentarily forgetting the couch.
Wooyoung pinched the bridge of his nose, “hello? Couch? You two can talk in a few minutes.”
You grinned, “better get to it. I’ll be right across from you.”
Yunho
It was a misunderstanding that broke up your once perfect relationship. It happened when Yunho started to get back home late. Then he used different excuses every time you asked.
Then you saw him at the jewelry store with someone else, laughing and looking at rings.
Now, a year later after your breakup, with a somewhat mended heart, you tried to walk past that same jewelry store in an attempt to get over the hurt attached to it.
You managed to do so without breaking down, but your chest still hurt. It was a process, after all.
You entered a park an decided to sit on the bench in order to take a moment and breath, letting the peacefulness drown out your thoughts of Yunho.
That was until you noticed someone walking up to you in a hesitant manor.
“Hey.” Yunho sheepishly spoke, hoping you wouldn’t shoo him away. You froze when you looked at him, all of the memories flashing through your mind.
“Hey… Oh my God, it’s been a while.” You spoke in a quiet voice and tried to swallow back the lump in your throat. Yunho smiled a bit, sitting beside you.
“How are you?” Yunho asked. You weren’t sure if you wanted to lie or be honest.
“I—” You stopped yourself. Yunho let out a sharp breath of air, “I’ve been wanting to explain myself since a year ago.”
Right. You never allowed him an explanation. You were too wrapped up in jealousy and your broken heart that you didn’t allow him that.
“Who you saw with me, was a friend.” He began, digging into his pocket, holding a ring. “They were helping me find an engagement ring— for you.”
“You kept it?” You felt your heart stop. You were relieved, but very regretful. Yunho nodded, “I didn’t have the heart to get rid of you.”
He widened his eyes, realizing his mistake, “I mean, it. I didn’t have the heart to get rid of it.”
You teared up, feeling more and more regretful, “I am so sorry, I should’ve let you explain.”
Yunho wrapped his arms around you, noticing you were on the verge of tears.
“I would have never wanted to hurt you in that way.” Yunho comforted you, even if he needed to be comforted too.
“Let’s start over,” Yunho eventually pulled away with a much wider smile and holding out his hand for a handshake. “I’m Yunho.”
Yeosang
He was set to debut soon and barely had time to see you. But that didn’t mean he didn’t try. Even if it meant sneaking around or losing more sleep. He loved you. He wanted your relationship to work.
But as he was debuting, he was given an ultimatum. You or his career.
“This is your dream. Your future. I will still be here waiting for as long as it takes.” You reassured him. Yeosang tried to convince himself it would be okay. Which it was, but he wished you were there every step of the way.
And you were. Just not in the way he hoped.
You watched from afar, always there, but never interfering with his work. The last thing you wanted was to ruin his dreams.
Three years later, you were at your favorite spot. The place you and Yeosang always visited when you both wanted to go out but not with people around. You visited almost every day, even if you were alone.
You laid down a picnic blanket on a spot and arranged multiples of his and your favorite snacks. It would be your five year anniversary, had his company let him still continue to be with you. You still loved him and even though you knew the relationship was over, you couldn’t bring yourself to date anyone else. After all, you did tell him you would wait for him.
“Happy anniversary.” You mumbled, blowing out a candle you had lit up a few seconds prior.
“Happy anniversary.”
You snapped your head in the direction of his voice, seeing Yeosang. He looked different. Older. But you could tell he was the same person you fell in love with.
He smiled fondly at you as he sat beside you on the blanket. “You actually waited.”
“I told you, I would.” You wanted to hug and kiss him, but you were waiting for the ‘go ahead’ to do so. Yeosang stared at you, his eyes twinkling with gratitude that you didn’t give up after all this time.
“Good. I’m still very much in love with you.”
“What about your company?” You asked, heart racing in your chest. Yeosang smiled a bit wider, rolling his eyes slightly.
“They aren’t as strict as before. That’s why I finally came back.” He emphasized the word ‘finally’.
You couldn’t hold back anymore, pulling him closer to you in your arms, “I missed you so much.”
Yeosang wrapped his arms snuggly around you, “I missed you too.”
San
It was the worst argument you two had since your relationship started. Any other argument prior was minor or over something small that you two made up for later. At first, you thought this would be one of those situations but the louder you two yelled, the more volatile the argument got.
Within that same hour, San left you alone, crying and broken hearted. Within a few days, he came for his stuff.
And two years later, he came back.
It was raining and yet that didn’t stop your doorbell form ringing. You weren’t prepared for San to be on the other side, soaking wet and with alcohol on his breath.
“San? Why are you—” You shook your head, letting him inside and out of the rain before he caught a cold.
“I admit, I got drunk and couldn’t stop thinking about you so… here I am.” San’s speech slurred as you grabbed a towel to give him. San wrapped himself in the towel, shivering slightly. “I still hate you.”
You didn’t respond, knowing he was drunk and you didn’t want to argue— again, with someone who had one too many.
“I hate you, but why am I still so in love with you?” San whined, sitting down on the couch, almost missing it completely had it not been for your help.
“Stay here.” You ignored his words, although you can’t lie; your heart skipped a beat.
You came back with water and dry clothes that he forgotten long ago that you never got around to discarding.
San took the water, drinking some of it before taking the clothes off your hands.
“Go change.” You mumbled, wondering what you were doing helping your drunk ex-boyfriend.
San got up and went to change. When he came back, he looked tired as he leaned against the wall to cover up the fact that he almost stumbled into it first.
“I don’t hate you.” San rubbed his eyes. “I do still love you.”
“San—” ”Please, I know you moved on but let me tell you before I regret this in the morning.” His voice still slurred, leaning his head against the wall as well. “I shouldn’t have left. I love you. I never meant to hurt you. I love you! Why did we argue?”
“San, seriously. I would rather talk about this when you’re not drunk.” You blinked hard to hold back your tears. San walked over to the couch and plopped down with a low grunt.
“I love you.”
“San.”
“Fine. Tomorrow.”
Mingi
Somewhere along the way, you both fell out of love. It happens to everyone at least once. But you didn’t expect it to hurt as much as it did when you two actually broke up and parted ways.
Something so good had died down, making the person you loved more than anything into a stranger.
You’ve dated other people since the breakup. But they weren’t Mingi. Even if you fell out of love with him and he you, you couldn’t stop but thinking about him and how good he was to you.
It had been months since your breakup and you tried one more time— for now, to date someone and convince yourself you weren’t just trying to rid your thoughts of Mingi.
You waited for you blind date at the reserved table, looking over the menu.
Right on time, you heard the screeching of a chair being dragged against the floor. Looking up, you immediately widened your eyes.
Mingi was just as surprised, freezing for a second before hesitantly sitting down.
“We’ve come full circle, huh?” Mingi lightheartedly chuckled. You immediately smiled at him, shaking your head.
“Guess so. I won’t be upset if you want to leave.” You offered but deep down, you hoped he would stay.
“I’m hungry, you’re hungry.” Mingi shook his head, “and you’re my date.”
You were so sure you didn’t feel anything for him anymore. How untrue that was.
Mingi’s presence felt natural. Relieving. Familiar.
“Right.” You cleared your throat, handing him a menu. “I think you can guess what I’m getting.”
Mingi slightly smirked, glancing up from the menu at you. He then collected the menus and chuckled.
“Me too.”
Wooyoung
You two had a strong relationship. Never did you ever imagine someone else would try and successfully break it up.
It started when someone Wooyoung worked with became infatuated with him. Slowly, they worked their way into his and your lives and did everything they could to make you look bad. Even going as far as to frame you for cheating.
Unfortunately, Wooyoung believed them.
Now you’re left to pick up the broken pieces of your heart after being wrongfully accused of cheating and even losing friends in the process.
You were home, feeling as lonely as ever when your phone dinged and a message popped up on screen.
You had deleted his number, but you knew right away that was Wooyoung.
-‘Hey. I’m sorry I thought you cheated. I shouldn’t have been quick to believe it. Can we please talk?’
You stared at the message, contemplating whether you actually wanted to see him again or not.
You left him on read for the night, deciding to sleep on your decision. When you woke up the next day, you saw another message from him.
-‘I know I hurt you. Please let’s talk.’
You thought it over, letting your heart speak rather than your brain.
-’Come over.’ you messaged, hoping you wouldn’t regret it.
When Wooyoung arrived, he looked as if he ran a marathon, panting and sweating profusely.
“I’m sorry I didn’t trust you.” Wooyoung took a deep breath to control his breathing. You still felt the hurt, crossing your arms over your chest.
“When did you realize that I never cheated?”
“You had an alibi— Listen, I really screwed up. I don’t know why I didn’t just ask you first instead of jumping to conclusions.” Wooyoung apologized. He had a look of regret as he gave you a pleading look.
“Alibi?”
“Yeah. I was sent screenshots of a conversation about how the evidence of you cheating were fake.” Wooyoung explained, “I really am sorry. I really screwed up, please. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but at least… consider letting me make up for it?”
You felt tears prick your eyes but didn’t dare let them spill. “I will consider it. But just know that you really hurt me.”
Jongho
Your breakup happened due to lack of time together. It wasn’t that there was anything wrong, you were just both busy when the other was free. And feeling like it wasn’t fair to either of you, you both made the decision to break up.
After a few years, you were in the grocery store, going off a list you had been meaning to get to. As you walked down an isle to find the last item you needed, you saw it.
Only it was in the back of the shelf and hard to reach. You let out a sigh, reaching as far as you could.
“Agh! How far back does this damn shelf go?” You cursed to yourself.
“Hey, let me help.”
You were startled for a moment, but when it registered and you turned to face the person who the voice belonged to, you instantly stepped out of the way and let him take care of it.
Within a moment, Jongho managed to maneuver the item closer to you. You grabbed it, mumbling a ‘thank you’, and setting it in your cart.
Jongho seemed to have a look of hope on his features as he examined you.
“Wow, it’s been a long time.” Jongho commented, smiling slightly. You looked at him in exchange, your heart fluttering and hurting all the same when you thought of how much time had passed since your mutual breakup.
“Oh yeah… You look… great.” You complimented, meaning it. Jongho’s smile grew.
“You look… great too.” Jongho’s smile turned into a smirk as he teased the way you paused. You chuckled, rolling your eyes.
“I am so glad to see you again.” You spoke with sincerity.
“I am so glad to see you too.”

Time Warp AU - #14 Well this update just didn't want to come together. But finally it's done (all 8K+ of it 😬) and I'm actually rather happy with how it turned out. So I hope you all enjoy this offering of Pete emotional H/C with a side of parental Icemav.
Honestly, Pete had never really got the big deal about birthdays. Sure, when he was little they seemed important. They’re supposed to, when you’re young. But he wasn’t a child anymore.
He’d learned a long time ago that simply managing to make it through the year wasn’t exactly cause for celebration. A few rounds of people forgetting, ignoring, or scoffing at him for waiting for some kind of acknowledgment of the date had made it all very clear to him - nobody gives a damn about stuff like that, and you look pathetic if anybody catches on that you might.
So he didn’t. Doesn’t.
For the longest time now, the only real significance that that day held for him was as a marker of his being one year closer to independence. Living with Mav and Ice, even that didn’t provide the same spiteful satisfaction that it once had.
These days, he didn’t count down the months until he was free of the people he found himself in the midst of. Quite the opposite really. Ice, Maverick, Tom, the Daggers, the uncles… they were good people. Good, kind, safe people - and they actually seemed to like Pete being around.
Nothing lasts forever though, of course. He knew that. He was well aware that he was one big screw up away from blemishing whatever image they all had of him, one proper misstep from sending the whole house of cards he’d built around himself from falling to the ground in one way or another. And he was well overdue for one of those mistakes. Unfortunately, it was an inevitability. The sky is blue. Water is wet. Pete Mitchell messes up nice things.
He tried not to let it bother him too much.
It was better to just live in the moment, and at this particular moment he had far bigger concerns than inevitabilities or the fact that he was turning 17 in a week. The chief among them - Maverick was turning 60.
Unlike Pete’s birthday, that was something significant. That was important. That was worthy of celebration.
Up until this whole time-warp fiasco went down, Pete would have put money on him (any version of him) not making it past 30. 60 was double that! It demanded celebration, even if Mav himself had developed a habit of referring to the subject of his age merely as ‘the situation’.
So when Ice suggested a little lunchtime get-together by the Hard Deck the coming Saturday ‘for the birthday we’ve got coming up’, he agreed that it was a fantastic idea.
“Penny’s got a barbecue there that we could use I’m pretty sure,” Tom chipped in over his cereal.
“Nice. I’ll be there if there’s food,” Pete grinned as he made a bowl for himself.
Tom rolled his eyes.
“You were going to be there anyway, numb-skull.”
“Boys, please,” Ice sighed, before Pete could return fire. “I’ve not had my coffee yet, let’s just hold off on the bickering for a little while longer.”
Pete sniffed when Tom promptly shot him an exceedingly smug smirk.
“I’d get drinking if I were you.”
“Pete.”
“Fine,” Pete huffed, before turning back to Ice. “The beach sounds great though. Want us to bring anything?”
“Just yourselves,” Ice replied, shaking his head. “Mav and I will sort out the logistics.”
And that was that. Party at the beach to celebrate Mav’s 60th, be there at 12. Sorted.
The rest of the week went by like normal, for the most part. He was asked if he was excited about the party a bit more often than he expected he would be, but he figured it was just people making conversation. He and Tom spent most of Thursday trying to find the old man a fitting birthday present.
“You’ve seen the hanger! How are we supposed to top that?!”
“I think we should probably start by setting our sights a little lower.”
In the end they decided to both go in on a new camera, figuring it was the most affordable of Mav’s hobbies to tap into.
When the day itself eventually did roll around, Pete was up and out of bed by dawn. Not due to excitement, and not due to any additional birthday gestures like he’d been contemplating (a fry up was always a good start to the day, after all), no - due to Tom.
“We’re going for a ride and you’re going to enjoy it,” he announced the second Pete woke (with a start, thanks to the other boy dropping his riding jacket and boots on top of him). “Up and at ‘em.”
“But what about Mav’s-?”
“We’ll see him at the party, I’ve left a note,” Tom announced, grabbing the end of Pete’s quilt and dragging it out of the room with him. “Mush.”
“I hate you!”
“Hate me on the move. There is breakfast with our name on it somewhere.”
“Ugh!”
The ride, annoyingly, was fantastic. The roads were mostly clear, and riding with Tom was always a blast. Tom even bought him breakfast and a couple of pastries for after (“It’s your birthday, idiot. Of course I’m shouting”). It was… well, nice. Pete didn’t care about birthdays, he really didn’t, but even still… it was just nice. Sitting at the look out, munching on the food his best friend had bought for him, he found himself feeling genuinely content with life and how it was turning out. A year ago, he wouldn’t have been able to bring himself to even imagine that. It was a moment he resolved to savour.
“You feel any different?” Tom asked, smirking as he dusted the icing sugar from his Pączki off his fingers.
Pete scoffed at the question, rolling his eyes.
“Oh yeah,” he replied, nodding seriously. “I feel like I’ve levelled up, you know? Way more mature now. I feel like I’ve really grown as a person.”
“And yet not an inch vertically? Life’s not fair, is it-?”
“Fuck you!”
Tom snickered, ducking out of the way of the hand Pete swung at the back of his head, before holding his own up in surrender.
“Seriously though, happy birthday,” he said, shooting Pete a warm smile that made his stomach do that fluttering thing he’d noticed it doing more and more often lately.
Smiling himself and ducking his head, Pete shrugged.
“Thanks,” he said. “It’s not really a big deal.”
“Well as somebody with a vested interest in your being born, I reckon it is,” Tom retorted, rolling his eyes.
Pete scoffed, a teasing grin tugging at his lips as he folded his arms over his knees.
“A vested interest, huh?”
“Don’t let it get to your head.”
“Nawww, you do like me,” Pete snickered.
“You’re letting it get to your head.”
“Is that why you brought me out here, to confess your undying love?”
“In. your. dreams,” Tom scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Bringing you out here was my present to both you and Mav.”
“How is me going to go for a ride and being bought breakfast a present for Maverick?
“You going for a ride and being bought breakfast means both you and I are here, not at home. Which means Mav and Ice have the whole place to themselves, all morning. And there’s no chance of either of us overhearing anything and being scarred for life.”
Pete blinked at that, before pulling a face at the thought of Mav’s birthday ride and announcing, utterly serious, “You’re the best friend a guy could ever ask for.”
“I know,” Tom drawled, before shrugging as he tucked the rubbish from his breakfast into his backpack. “And maybe I wanted to get in first with the birthday wishes.”
“Always a competition with you, isn’t it?” Pete scoffed, ignoring the other boy’s derisive snort as he jumped back to his feet. “Race you back to the Hard Deck!”
“Absolutely not!” Tom snapped, hurrying to his feet all the same as Pete bounded over to the bikes. “That flies entirely in the face of the contract!”
“I laugh in the face of the contract!”
“Yes! That’s why it took so long to draft! Pete!”
They didn’t end up racing back, much to Tom’s relief. As a result, by the time they pulled up, pretty much everybody had arrived at the beach. Bradely, Hangman, and Phoenix were still by the Bronco though, pulling the last of their stuff out the back.
“Ah, the birthday boy has arrived,” Hangman cried as they wandered over.
“Ha ha,” Pete scoffed, rolling his eyes before turning to Rooster. “Hey, can we dump our helmets and stuff in your car?”
“Sure, the back seat should be free,” he replied as he hefted the cooler from the trunk. “But really, happy birthday, Pete.”
“Ah, thanks?” Pete replied, a confused smile tugging at his lips as he stepped out of the way for Tom to stow his stuff away as well. That’s two times today. Weird.
“What’s with the face?” Phoenix asked, laughing. “17 is a big deal.”
Pete laughed.
“Yeah right,” he replied, stooping to grab one of the bags from their pile. “16’s supposed to be a big deal, and 18 definitely is. 17’s just there.”
“Agree to disagree. But, that raises a good question,” replied Jake, a mischievous grin spread across his face. “What sort of Sweet 16 fiasco are we competing with today?”
Pete arched a brow at the question, but figured it made sense. Out of all the milestone birthdays, 16 was the only relevant one he and Mav had an overlap on. Though he wasn’t sure how much “I spent most of it in the ER with a broken arm’ would help with gauging the temperature for how this one was going.
Instead he just shrugged.
“Nothing really special. I’m sure this’ll be way better.”
“That’s what we’re aiming for,” Jake replied with a grin, ruffling Pete’s hair (and then, far more amusingly, Tom’s), before leading the way over to the sand.
Pete blinked as they drew closer. A lot of people had turned up. All of the daggers were here, pitching up chairs and umbrellas or tossing a football (actually, two footballs) around while almost all the uncles and even Viper milled about among them. Mav, Ice, Slider, and Penny were getting the barbecue started, chatting with Warlock and Cyclone (which was weird, but probably Ice’s doing). He even spotted Amelia and Theo slip out of the Hard Deck, deep in conversation with Hondo (about something nerdy and interesting no doubt) to join the group.
“Damn, Mav sure invited a lot of people for someone who pulls faces whenever anybody utters the number 60 around him,” he laughed as he hefted the bag further up his shoulder. “Or are you all gatecrashing just to torment him?”
Jake snorted at that, rolling his eyes.
“Nah. Though he is being a baby about it, so if we did it would be his own fault,” he replied.
“He actually ordered us not to mention ‘the situation’ the other day,” Bradley scoffed, shaking his head.
“In fairness, Roo - you and Bagman were having a lot of fun at his expense,” said Phoenix as they all dropped their bags on the sand and set about making camp. She grinned at Pete and Tom. “There have been lots of fossil jokes. These two even smuggled a walker on base and swapped it with his lectern before debrief. He had to walk it to the side of the classroom.”
“Cruel,” Tom snickered from beside him. “Funny, but cruel.”
“You know it,” Jake cackled, dropping his bags down on the sand before stretching his arms over his head. “But nah, he’s opted out of a group celebration. Don’t know why. But I’m afraid that means you’re flying solo today, baby bro.”
Pete blinked again.
“...I’m what?”
“You’ve got the spotlight pretty much to yourself today,” Bradley replied, shrugging like it was the simplest thing. “Apparently he’s got some day-trip planned with Ice tomorrow, so he’s sorted. That just leaves you with all of the attention. Reckon you can handle that?”
…Shit.
Shit, shit shit - he had not prepared for this. He’d not expected this. What the hell even was this?! He’s turning 17. Who gives a shit?! Why the hell would all of these people come out here, some of them a hell of a long way, just for him?! They wouldn’t. Had they not been told it was just for him? Did Mav wriggle out of this at the last second and now he had 20+ people who’d pretty much written off half their weekend for no reason on his hands?
“Pete, you alright?” Tom asked, shaking his shoulder, a worried expression on his face.
Pete grimaced, before glancing around at the others and finding them all looking at him with concern.
He pulled on a wide grin and laughed.
“Me? Yeah, of course!” he replied cheerily, mind racing all the while. He needed a minute to himself. To come up with a plan. To fix this.
Quickly turning back to the others, slapping his forehead as he did, he said, “You know what? I think I left my phone on my bike. Just gonna go grab that, can’t lose another one. Are you guys good here for a sec?”
“I mean, yeah,” Tom said slowly, frowning.
“Great!” Pete cheered (perhaps a bit too overzealously, but whatever) before spinning around and, with a quick “Back in a moment!” taking off back up the beach.
Right, step one, calm the hell down. He had to get a hold of himself and he had to do it now.
Alright, it was a surprise. Alright, there were probably going to be some irritated people down there. So what? He could deal with irritated people. He could deal with people that actively wanted to kick his ass, irritated is nothing. Why the hell was he freaking out so much? Less than a year of being treated nicely and he’d gone completely soft, seriously?
He shook his head roughly.
He was fine. This was fine. He’d make it work somehow. He just needed to stop acting like a baby and come up with a plan of action.
He could direct attention back to Maverick. The old man can try and wriggle out of it all he likes but two can play this game. He’ll stick around for an hour, direct as much attention to Mav as possible, whip Jake and Bradely up into enough of a frenzy to keep the momentum going and then make a classy exit. Nobody will even remember he was here and they’ll forget all about this misunderstanding. That’s good. That’ll work.
…Unless Mav launches a counter-attack. Which he would.
Shit!
“Pete?”
Pete whirled around and found Mav and Ice approaching, both looking concerned and not all that surprised to see him up here. Goddamnit, Tom, the snitch!!
“What’s going on, kiddo?” Mav asked, cocking his head to the side.
“I mean, that’s a pretty good question man,” Pete replied, running a hand through his hair anxiously as he glanced down at the beach once more before turning his attention (and frustration) back to the older man. “I get that you’ve got some sort of three quarter life crisis going on about turning 60, but seriously, throwing me under the bus so you can avoid that is a dick move.”
Mav, the bastard, looked more confused than chastened at the rebuke, exchanging a bemused glance with Ice.
“You’re going to have to spell this one out for us, buddy.”
Pete groaned, folding his hands on top of his head.
“First, explain it to me, guys,” he replied. “What was the plan? Trick everyone here by saying it’s a party for Mav and then hope people aren’t too put out when it turns out it was for the other Mitchell? Jeez guys, I mean, what the hell? Why the hell?! Nobody gives a damn it’s my birthday. I don’t give a damn it’s my birthday. Now it looks like I do, and now I get to look like the stupid little moron who needed people tricked here to pad things out!”
“Pete,” Ice said slowly, holding his hands out like he was trying to calm down some wounded animal. Like Pete was being irrational about this. “You do know this party is for you, right?”
“Yes,” Pete replied with every ounce of patience he possessed. “I’m aware of that. That’s exactly my point”
“No. He means it was always intended to be just for you,” Mav weighed in.
Pete sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried his very best to channel Ice and remain as diplomatic as he possibly could (it did not help, mind you, that Ice was joining in on this nonsense. But he tried nevertheless).
“Look,” he said with forced calm, “I see what you’re trying to do, and it’s a nice thought. I appreciate that you guys care and want to make a fuss, I do. But you can’t just expect to trick people into writing off half their weekend for one thing, and then bait and switch with a discount offer at the last second. Wood and Wolf flew in from Texas for this, guys. Please. I’ll see if I can get the Daggers to lay off the fossil jokes, but- …what’s this?”
“Read it,” Ice replied, holding his phone out to Pete until he took it and did as he was told.
Jake has named the group chat: Big Effing Deal Jake: First of all, how. dare. you? Nat: Seconded! Both for leaving us out and forcing me to agree with Bagman. Jake: Look what you’ve brought us too!!!  Nat: I feel physically sick.  Jake: Ditto. Bradley: Wow, you guys really are in sync today.  Nat: You take that back!!! Ice: Could somebody please explain what we’re being accused of here.  Jake: Betrayal!!!  Coyote: Dude - you’ve been hitting the expresso machine again, haven’t you? Mav: Guys. BOB: Rooster mentioned you are having a get together for Pete’s birthday on Saturday and we’re all handling the rejection differently. Fanboy: How could you, Mav? Mav: Well first, there’s no rejection for anybody to handle. We floated the idea of a beach party this morning and he seemed alright with it. So if you guys are free and want to come along, you’re more than welcome to.  Jake: Was that so hard?!!!! Mav: If you’d waited a few more hours I’d have invited you in person at work tomorrow. Jake: But Roo gets his invite right away??? :(  Ice: Rooster was over during the day, so yes, he heard first. Rooster: Remember how you were supposed to help me fix their gate today?  Jake: Nope. Poorly communicated on your part.  Jake: Moving swiftly on - we need times. And gift ideas. Nat: What a crappy brother. I got my present for him weeks ago.  Payback: Burn.  Payback: Also, same. Jake: You’re a pair of goody-goodies, I’m not surprised in the slightest.  Jake: Besides it doesn’t matter how early you got it. It’s how good it is. Nat: Got you beat there too Bagman.  Jake: Bullshit. Pete and I have a connection.  Payback: Is that what we’re calling you being a terrible influence now? Coyote: Just before these three properly kick off - is this a joint birthday bash? Or Pete-specific? Mav: Pete specific.  Mav: I’ve already got plans for mine.  Ice: And by that he means I have already made plans for him.  Ice: They’re on Sunday though, so we’ll be there regardless.  Mav: And people think I’m the competitive one. My point is, I’m covered, so don’t go worrying about that. Coyote: Roger that!  Fanboy: This is going to be great!! I can bake a cake if you like!!! Lil bro likes chocolate, right? Payback: Guys - take him up on the offer!  Phoenix: This! ^^^^^ Ice: That would be lovely, Fanboy, thank you. And yes, chocolate would be well received I expect.  Fanboy: Yeeeeeesssss!!  Mav: Right, we’re just going to leave you guys to this.  Rooster: Oh, actually, just before you go… Bradley’s added Sly-Guy, Chip_P, E!News, Full_M00ning…  Mav: Oh you little shit stirrer.  Sli-Guy: First of all, how dare you?!
Pete blinked, utterly mystified, as he scrolled through the group chat (which seemed to go on for quite a bit) before eventually turning back to Ice and Mav.
“I… I don’t understand,” he uttered.
“Join the club, kiddo,” Mav replied, rubbing the back of his neck.
“You helped plan this,” Ice pointed out, a baffled expression on his ordinarily nonplussed face. “I specifically asked you if you would like a party at the Hard Deck?”
“I thought you were asking for my input for Mav’s party,” Pete muttered, his cheeks blazing with embarrassment as he realised just how stupid he apparently was.
“The daggers have been talking to you about it all week?” Mav pointed out, equally confused. “Bob asked you what snacks you’d like him to bring.”
“I thought they were coming to me because they couldn’t get anything out of you!” Pete snapped back hotly.
Ice held up a hand, cutting that line of conversation off before it could get too heated. Taking a deep, exceedingly put upon breath, he sighed “Once again, it appears that this family’s outstanding communication skills have come back to bite us all in the ass.”
He turned back to Pete.
“If it’s any consolation, it wasn’t meant to be a surprise party,” he said.
Pete scoffed softly, in spite of himself, but soon enough the begrudging amusement gave way to confusion once more.
“I still don’t understand,” he said. “Why would all of them come out if they knew it was just for me?”
“How’s it any different from them coming out for me?” Maverick asked with a frown.
Pete shrugged.
“They’re your family,” he replied simply. “They’re supposed to show up for you.”
“They’re your family too,” Maverick argued, his frown deepening.
“You do know that, don’t you?” Ice said slowly, eyes narrowed suspiciously.
“Yeah. Course,” Pete muttered, cutting a quick glance to the group in question. Nobody seemed to have noticed they were gone yet, thank goodness. Somehow Pete felt like he’d find himself even more outnumbered if they did. He had to bury this quick though, if he wanted to avoid that fate.
Unfortunately, when he turned back to the oldtimers, Ice had his signature ‘so you’re just going to lie to my face now?’ expression in place. Never a good sign. Also almost never directed at Pete he realised with a dull pain.
“You know, you pull that face every time this topic of conversation comes up.”
“What face?”
“The ‘well if it makes them happy’ face,” Ice replied, folding his arms over his chest. “Be honest with us, Pete. What’s going on here?”
Pete shrunk back a little at that, feeling very much under a spotlight all of a sudden and not entirely sure why.
“N-nothing. Nothing’s going on.”
“Well clearly something is. And just to be clear, do you honestly believe that we’d have all been fine throwing a party for Maverick and doing absolutely nothing for you?” the older man asked, arching a brow pointedly.
“I… I mean… I… I’d get it,” Pete stuttered, heart pounding in his chest. What the hell was going on? What did he even do? He took a step back, giving into the instinct to at least be out of arm's length, only to knock into the back of Ice’s Jeep when he tried. Crap. He was trapped. And he was in trouble. And he didn’t know why.
His alarm must have shown on his face too, because soon enough Ice was taking a step back himself, hands held up disarmingly.
“Pete, I’m not angry with you,” he said, calmly and far gentler than before. “I’m sorry.”
Pete swallowed thickly, but nodded all the same as he tried to rein himself in, to calm down for goodness sake. He was being so damn stupid!!
“I just don’t understand,” Ice continued. “You know everybody here loves you, don’t you? We haven’t dropped the ball that much I hope.”
Embarrassment and shame twisted sickeningly in the pit of Pete’s belly. Because he did know that. He knew how hard everybody had tried to make him and Tom feel welcome. And not just as novelty extensions of Mav and Ice either, but as their own, separate people. They’d all tried so hard to bring them into the family and make them feel like they belonged in it, Pete knew it. He saw it each day. For the most time, he felt it too, but there was just this part of him that wouldn’t allow him to accept it fully. Wouldn’t allow him to trust it. To trust them.
“I’m sorry,” he uttered weakly, staring down at the tips of his boots. “I… I know it doesn’t make sense. It’s not anything you guys have done, or haven’t done. I know how much you’ve all tried to be welcoming. And you have, truly. I love it here… so much. But… but every time I try to… it’s just in the back of my mind I’m always… I…”
He flinched sharply when something touched his arm, but it was just Ice reaching out to him. All of a sudden, that contact, that offer of reassurance was all he wanted. Sighing heavily he stepped forward and leaned against the old man’s chest, dragging in a deep, calming breath as Ice’s arms wrapped around him, squeezed him in a tight.
“I love it here,” he uttered. “And everybody here… and I know they- you all care - about me and Tom. But I just know…”
He sighed deeply.
“It’s just… self-preservation, I guess. I know it’s going to really hurt, so much, when I mess up.  I didn’t care, when it was just some other home I was stuck in longer than usual, but now… now it’s probably too late already. When I mess up and have to go-”
“Hey, who said anything about you going anywhere,” Ice said with a frown, holding him closer. “We told you, you have a place in this family for life. Nothing will change that.”
Pete sighed sadly, shaking his head where it was pressed to Ice’s sternum. They didn’t get it. They felt that way now, but it wouldn’t last.
“No matter how hard you try, you’re going to end up alone.”
Both Pete and Ice froze at that, before turning to face Maverick, who looked all the world like he’d just commented on the weather rather than putting one of Pete’s deepest, most painful fears to words. And he wasn’t done.
“We’re going realise just how messed up you really are. How much damage has been done. How much of it can’t be undone. And, most importantly, how much of it you probably deserved. And sooner or later we’ll change our mind about you. It’s all well and good to say we’ll always want you in the family if we haven’t seen the full picture yet, because let’s face it, you’re on the good behaviour streak of a lifetime right now. But sooner or later, you’re going to mess up, because that’s what you do. And then we’ll see the real you. The screw up. The waste of space. The guy everybody else can see clearly. Eventually the rose-coloured glasses will come off and  we’ll really see you for what you are. We’ll get tired of trying to bring somebody into a family who doesn’t deserve to be in it and clearly is meant to be on their own. It’ll be better for everyone to just stop trying. We probably won’t kick you out, to be fair - but when you head off to college or the academy… the calls and emails will peter out. Tom will probably find his own people too, when he’s got other options. He’ll stop spending time with you too. It’ll probably be pretty amicable really. But everybody will just go on with their life and there will be no room for you in them. That will be that. Better to just accept it now, try not to get too attached to how things are, so when it happens, at least you won’t look like you were blindsided by it all. It’s a bit less pathetic if you at least saw it coming.”
Pete’s stomach sunk so fast through the blacktop it felt like he was pulling negative G’s. Mav knew. Mav saw how this was going to play out just as clearly as he did. The first card in his little house was beginning to wobble.
To his horror he felt his face beginning to heat up and his eyes beginning to sting. He dragged in a deep, shuddering breath, squeezing them shut tight. He wasn’t a baby. This wasn’t a surprise. He wasn’t going to start crying in the middle of the car park where everybody could see him like some child.
He jumped as an arm wrapped around his shoulders and looked up to find Ice, holding him close again, and leading them to the space between his jeep and Bradley’s Bronco - more or less out of sight from the rest of the group.
“Sit down and take a few deep breaths for me, kiddo,” he murmured, manoeuvring Pete until he was sitting down on the gravel, back pressed against the rubber of the Bronco’s tyre. Biting his lip, he folded his arms tight over his chest, knees drawing up as Ice kneeled down beside him and wrapped an arm back around his shoulders, rubbing up and down his arm soothingly all the while.. “In and out. Just like that. What the hell, Mav?”
“Just trying to work out what we’re dealing with here,” Maverick replied, sounding tired and sad now. “Pete, can you look at me?”
Pete really didn’t want to. This was all humiliating and painful enough without risking bursting into tears the second he made eye contact with the old man as well. But, at the same time, this was the reality of the situation, and closing his eyes and hiding from it wasn’t going to change anything either, except to make him look even more childish. So whether he wanted to or not, he didn’t have much of a choice.
Clenching his jaw tight and breathing in deeply through his nose, he (as resolutely as he could manage) lifted his head and met Mav’s eye. He wasn’t expecting to be met with a sympathetic expression. How could Mav see him so clearly, and still look at him like that.
“Does that about sum it up?” the old man asked, cocking his head to the side. “What’s going on in that head of yours.”
Scrubbing roughly at his face, Pete nodded his head.
“M-more or less.”
Mav hummed thoughtfully, pausing a moment, before smiling and sitting down properly across from them.
“You know,” he said, leaning back on his hands. “The first time I met Carole, she scared that absolute crap out of me.”
Pete blinked, confused at the strange turn their conversation had taken, but interested all the same. Mav wasn’t shy with talking about Goose or Carole, but he’d never heard that.
A fond smile tugged at the edges of the old man’s mouth as he looked up wistfully at the sky.
“People underestimated her. She was so loud and joyous all the time, most people figured she was probably a bit dim. But they had no idea. Sure she was smart enough, but her real strength was with people. She had this way of looking at a person, just looking at them, and seeing past all the bullshit.”
He shook his head.
“The first shore leave after Goose and I became a team, Goose insisted that I come home with him. He hadn’t realised until we were literally docking that I didn’t have anywhere to go, so the second he put the pieces together it was, ‘Come on, you have to, Mav! It’ll be great. You can meet Carole. You guys will get on like a house on fire, I know it’. And I, for the life of me, couldn’t come up with a good enough excuse to convince him otherwise. I think I was a bit blindsided that he was offering to spend more time together at all.”
He scoffed.
“Either way, the pressure was dialled up to 11,” he drawled. “Not only would I have to stay on my best behaviour for even longer, to keep Goose on side - and I’d been on a 6 month streak at that point and felt the end looming. But I also had to become best friends with his wife, immediately. Otherwise he’d wonder how he got that one so wrong. Then he’d look closer, and he’d see everything he’d somehow missed about me before. See exactly where I was lacking. Me getting to keep the one person in the navy, hell, the one person in the world that gave a damn about me - depended on this month going well.”
Rubbing at his scratchy eyes, Pete leaned a little more into Ice’s side, before asking. “You managed to pull that off?”
“Hell no, I lasted less than a week,” Mav scoffed, shaking his head. “And it only lasted that long because Goose and Carole had the patience of saints.”
Pete frowned. That didn’t make sense. He might not know this story but he knew a hell of a lot of the others that came later. He knew Mav stayed friends with Goose, and Carole as well, for years after when this would have happened. How could it not have worked? How did he screw up that badly and still manage to keep them around?
He shot Ice a confused glance, receiving a ‘just roll with it’ shrug in response.
“Carole was living in this tiny town in the middle of nowhere Texas at the time. Her aunt needed help moving or something. Unfortunately that meant I had had about six hours of travelling to work myself up and come up with a game plan for how I was going to make it all work. Going in with a charm offensive wouldn’t have done it, Goose would feel like making moves on his wife, Carole would feel like I was a creep, and I’d be stuck with both of them feeling like that for a month. I couldn’t risk being myself, for reasons already discussed. So I decided on the red carpet treatment. From the second I got out of Goose’s truck to the second we got back in it to head back to the airport, Carole Bradshaw would be shown a level of respect and deference that no admiral had or has ever received from me. The queen of England could have come around and found it excessive. But it was the best I had.
“I addressed her as ma’am, I stood when she walked into the room or got up from the table, I tried to help out around the house as much as I possibly could. A big part of the plan was also trying to give her and Goose as much space and time to themselves as possible. I wasn’t supposed to be there, and the absolute last thing I wanted is for them to miss out on time together because Goose felt obliged to bring me along with him. On paper, I thought it worked. Be respectful and stay out of the way. Unfortunately, in practice it went more along the lines of me actively avoiding everybody like it was my job and, whenever I couldn’t, making the situation so awkward it was uncomfortable for everybody. And it was uncomfortable. My god. Goose and Carole, they tried so hard to get me to relax, come out of my shell, do the exact opposite of what I was trying to do essentially. It was not going well,” Mav laughed, rubbing the back of his neck and shaking his head at the memory.
“Goose knew I was acting off, which was putting me even more on edge. And I knew I was quickly moving past that ‘meeting new people is awkward sometimes’ grace period straight into ‘this little twerp I’ve known for a few months has got a problem with the love of my life’ territory. So not ideal. And Carol… Carol knew from the beginning that I was putting up a front, which made settling around her pretty much impossible.”
Pete grimaced sympathetically at the thought of it all.
“At least you stuck it out,” he muttered. “I would have just left at that point.”
“Oh, I did,” Mav replied without missing a beat. “About five days in everything finally bubbled over. Goose tried to coax me into telling him what was wrong for about the millionth time and… well, after days of constantly being on red alert, barely sleeping from the stress, just second guessing every single move or sound I made while knowing, in spite of trying my best, it was all going to hell - I sort of lost it on him. Told him he could take whatever friendship he thought we had and shove it where the sun don’t shine because I sure as hell didn’t need it or him. That I'd been on my own for over half my life and I didn’t need anybody, thank you very much, least of all some hapless, sheltered country-boy who clearly didn’t know what was good for him if it smacked him in the face. Then I grabbed my bag and went straight to the train station.”
Pete blinked owlishly at that, confused to say the least.
“But I thought Goose was your best friend,” he said.
“He was,” Mav replied.
“Even after that?!”
“I know, I was surprised too.”
Pete frowned, puzzling it over as Mav laughed softly and shook his head..
“This being the tiny town it was, the train didn’t run very often, and I’d missed the one for that day - which was just the cherry on the top really. I figured I’d just spend the night on the platform. Didn’t want to risk missing the next one, and I was feeling pretty sorry for myself at the time so it seemed fitting. Which was exactly where Carole found me three hours later.”
Ice scoffed softly beside Pete, shaking his head with a fond smile of his own.
“Mother Goose sent in the big guns then,” he drawled.
“I honestly have no idea if Goose even knew,” Mav replied, smiling reminiscently himself. “I think she just figured she’d given us both enough time to sulk and decided enough was enough.”
He chuckled, tilting his head back as he recalled the encounter.
“She came over and sat down on the ground beside me,” he said, looking around them, the corner of his lips twitching a fraction higher. “Sorta like we are right now.”
Pete smiled weakly at that.
“She sat with me for the longest time, didn’t say a word, just waited me out, until she could tell I was ready to actually listen to her. Then she took my hand and said, “You know what, honey? If you were half as rotten as you’re afraid you are, you wouldn’t care nearly as much as you do”.”
Pete ducked his head as, all at once, tears started welling up once again. God he wanted that to be true. With every fibre of his being he did. He bit his lip as he felt Ice pull him a little tighter against his side, and heard Mav scoot closer himself, reaching out and rubbing his arm himself.
“Do you think she was right about that,” he uttered, voice crackling with the strain of keeping himself together.
Mav smiled, squeezing Pete’s arm gently as he inclined his head.
“Honestly, I always had my doubts,” he confessed. “But these days… I think she probably was.”
Before he could stop them, a couple of the tears Pete had been battling against broke free and rolled down his cheeks.
“Oh, buddy,” Mav sighed, reaching up to rub the moisture away. “I’m so sorry. Sometimes I forget how much all of that stuff hurt.”
Pete leaned into the contact, the corner of his mouth twitching a little as he did so.
“Actually pretty good to hear that from my perspective,” he murmured, drawing soft scoffs from the oldtimers.
Shaking his head fondly, Mav patted Pete’s arm one last time before folding them over his crossed legs.
“I’m telling you this for two reasons,” he said, ducking his head to meet Pete’s eye once again. “First, and I really am sorry for this but, unfortunately, this is just one of those cards that you and I got dealt. This is something that you were always going to have to work through. Being on your own for so long, and getting told so many times and in so many ways that nobody wants you, and nobody will ever want you - it leaves a mark. That doesn’t mean you’re broken. It's just a hurdle that we get that some people don’t. Everyone’s got their own set. For us - it’s being very, very aware of just how much other people can hurt you, while at the same time knowing how much the alternative hurts too.”
Pete sighed softly, but nodded all the same. That point wasn’t exactly news to him, but it still sucked hearing it all the same.
“And second,” Mav said, reaching out and brushing Pete’s hair back from his face with a small, reassuring smile. “Even though it doesn’t always feel like it, and that feeling will flare up from time to time unfortunately, some people really do stay.”
Pete lifted his head to look at the old man properly, something like hope fluttering weakly in the pit of his belly.
“They stick by you as long as they possibly can, through more crap than you could possibly imagine. I know it’s hard to really let yourself believe that right now. I know it feels like the second you do it’ll all fall apart around you, like a house of cards. But that will fade with time and with evidence. You’re just going to have to trust me until then. You’re not meant to be alone. There’s nothing fundamentally wrong or bad about you. The people who are worth a damn, they stay - you just have to let them in in the first place.”
The older man leaned closer, whispering conspiratorially, “Just be careful, because once you do, it’s all bets off. I had one moment of weakness around Slider 36 years ago and now I’m stuck with him.”
Pete laughed wetly at that, smiling back as Mav practically beamed at him.
“I hope you’re right,” he uttered, rubbing again at his face.
“I am,” Mav replied, nodding firmly. “And look, I’m not going to lie to you and promise forever. Nobody knows what’s around the corner. Hell, a tsunami could take us all out right now.”
Pete scoffed softly, rolling his eyes as Maverick ruffled his hair teasingly.
“But the stuff you’re worried about, the mistakes you’re worried about making, I’m sorry but they’re just not gonna cut it.”
Ice nodded at that.
“Unfortunately, to shake us at this point you’d have to do things that you’re simply not capable of. And they certainly wouldn’t be accidental.”
Pete frowned slightly, glancing between the two of them.
“...Could you give me a clue?” he asked. “You know, to be safe.”
Ice scoffed softly, before cocking his head to the side thoughtfully.
“Alright. We’re talking about doing things that would deliberately traumatise others. Not accidents, like a car crash or getting in a really bad fight, though we’d all rather you avoided that too. Stuff that’s just evil. Things specifically done to make somebody else feel afraid or humiliated or less than” Ice replied calmly, brow rising pointedly. “Do you feel that avoiding that sort of behaviour would be a struggle for you?”
“Fuck, no,” Pete replied, nose wrinkling at the thought of doing anything along those lines.
Ice  nodded.
“There you go. There’s the bar,” he replied simply. “Anything above that? Worst case scenario, you’re the pain in the ass of the week. And that’s a title we’ve all held at one point or another.”
“Even you?”
“Unjustly,” he sniffed.
“Ask Uncle Sli about it some time,” Mav replied without missing a beat, before turning back to Pete before Ice could retort. “Honestly kiddo, do you really think Bradely was an angel growing up?”
“Well… yeah?”
“Think again,” Ice drawled.
Mav hummed, nodding seriously.
“Off the top of my head, there was that time he threw a party with his baseball team while we were out of town and trashed the house.”
“The bike he borrowed without asking, rode unlicensed, and totalled - on a dare.”
“The kitchen he nearly burned down because ‘guys - you can’t pause online games, how many times do I have to tell you?’ and ‘I want bacon’ turned out to be a bad mix.”
“The spy-phase that ended with him trying to sneak onto a military base, ours that is, and then refusing to answer any questions or co-operate after getting caught.”
“I maintain that that was mostly Hollywood’s fault for taking him to watch True Lies.”
Pete blinked, stunned by the antics of, by far, one of the more mature ‘big brothers’ he had.
Ice scoffed, rolling his eyes with a fond smile.
“And we still love the kid. Did back then when it happened and through much less amusing run-ins too,” he said, before squeezing Pete a little tighter to his side. “So try not to worry so much. You’re a kid, you’re supposed to do stupid things. Mav does stupid things every other day and we still keep him around. And that’s these days. He was an absolute menace when I first met him. And six years older than you are now. You’re a dream in comparison.”
Mav huffed.
“You are a delight,” he said, patting Pete on the shoulder, before shooting his husband a pointed look. “But I think some people are forgetting which one of us introduced himself by immediately talking shit.”
“We were competing and the fact that you still bring it up almost 40 years later just further emphasises what a sound psychological victory that introduction was for me.”
“I mean I wanted to kick your ass all the more afterwards, so I’m not sure how much of a victory it was.”
“Well you never did, so a big one I would say.”
“Bullshit I never did-!”
“Go-ddddddd,” Pete groaned, though he couldn’t help but grin at the bickering, which, in the span of 10 months, had somehow become the comforting soundtrack of home for him (which probably said a lot about Ice and Maverick, but who cares). “Wher’es Tom when you need him?”
“Our point,” Ice said pointedly, shooting Mav a look that said quite clearly ‘we’re supposed to be a united front, genius (also, you know I’m right), “Is that you’re going to make mistakes. Everybody does. You’re going to do stupid things, things that we don’t approve of. And, because we’re here to help you become the best person you can be, we’ll call you out on it. At one point or another, we’ll disagree, we’ll argue, feelings will probably get hurt, egos will get bruised. And then, we’re going to be here anyway. Because you’re a member of this family and that’s not going to change.”
“And we’ll remind you of that however many times you need,” Mav replied, smiling warmly at him, before slapping his own knees and leaning back. “Now, how would you like to proceed from here? Are you alright breaking the Birthday Drought today or would you like to go home and we can just have a nice family dinner tonight. Which would you rather?”
Pete bit his lip, fiddling with a loose thread on the hem of his t-shirt.
“I guess I… I wouldn’t mind staying,” he replied, his heart and stomach fluttering again at the thought of all these people, his family, turning up just for him. But this time, he found his emotions leaning more on the side of nervous excitement rather than all-consuming dread. “I mean, It’s been a minute.”
“You’re sure?” Ice asked seriously, rubbing Pete’s back reassuringly. “Don’t feel like you have to if you don’t want to.”
Pete ducked his head, a small smile spreading across his face as, for the first time since this whole miscommunication came to light, and before that really, something seemed to settle inside of him. Some knot of tension that had been there for so long that he’d just learned to live with it, seemed to ease just the littlest bit. He did not doubt, for a second, that if he decided to leave now, Ice and Mav (and Tom) would cover for him, would back him up and stand in his corner. Whether they needed to or not, and Pete suspected things would probably topple in the direction of ‘not’ because the others would understand.
Drawing in a deep, calming breath (like Ice had been teaching him) he lifted his head a smiled a little wide.
“I want to,” he said. “Seriously, if I ever say no to chocolate cake I want you to assume that somebody’s stolen my face and is impersonating me.”
“Mark that down for both of us,” Mav replied, nodding empathetically.
“Noted,” Ice scoffed, smiling as the three of them got back to their feet. “In that case, we should probably get back. Tom said he’d try to keep them all in one place to give us a moment alone but the fact that he seems to have managed it is making me nervous.”
Pete snickered as Mav shot him an amused grin, before they both followed Ice back to the beach. It turned out the old man may have been right to worry.
“In my defence,” Tom drawled as he jogged over to meet them. “I didn’t expect them all to lose their minds.”
Pete felt like that was a pretty accurate description for the mayhem they’d just walked into. Almost all the daggers and a few of the flyboys were shouting, waving their arms about, jabbing fingers in faces or, in Fanboy’s case, cackling rather manically. And those that weren’t seemed content to either enjoy the show or stoke the fires all the more. It was pandemonium.
“What did you do?” Ice sighed as they drew closer.
Tom shrugged.
“I casually mentioned that Pete and I watched Die Hard for the first time, and asked what other Christmas movies we should watch. And, well...”
“IT’S SET ON CHRISTMAS EVE, BAGMAN!!! HOW MUCH MORE OBVIOUS DO YOU NEED IT?!”
“THAT’S ALL YOU’VE GOT! IT’S AN ACTION MOVIE-”
“ON CHRISTMAS EVE!”
“OH MY GOD! SO WHAT?! SO WHAT?!!”
“Well, it did distract them,” Ice replied, arching a brow as he took it all in. “They’re going to go full Lord of the Flies any moment now, but it worked.”
Tom grinned, before slinging an arm around Pete’s shoulders and drawling, “Wanna make it worse?”
“You’ve been a terrible influence on him,” Ice sighed, shooting Mav a despairing glance as Pete laughed softly and shrugged.
“Sure.”
Tom winked before calling over the noise, “Alright, maybe Die Hard can go one way or the other-”
“NO IT CAN’T,” Jake and Nat hollered in unison, before immediately shooting each other disgusted glares.
“But surely we can all agree that Nightmare before Christmas-”
And they were off again, with renewed vigour and with previous alliances suddenly shattered.
Pete laughed as he took it all in. Tom’s arm around his shoulders; Mav and Ice squeezing his arm and ruffling his hair respectively as they walked by to try and reign in the chaos; Rooster and Hangman each elbowing their way through the crowd, hollering for him to back them up.
The fears were still there, bubbling away beneath the surface. Pete felt that they probably always would. Allowing himself to stay this attached, to actually believe that maybe this time, just this once, things truly would turn out different… it was risky. Frankly it was downright dangerous.
“Right, enough of this!!” Rooster hollered over the noise. “Let’s settle this properly.”
“Agreed,” Jake replied, nodding firmly. “Dogfight football. I bags the babies.”
“What?!”
“You can’t take both of them!”
“Can. Did. Pete, Tom, come on.”
Sometimes, the risks were worth taking. And, well, he’d always liked to think he was a little dangerous.

Zones and Photography for Fools Rush In! Steve. Preferably pre-nomad 😆
I read every update of yours as soon as I get the notification. Keep up the good work. You are amazing <333333
From this dirty ask game but okay, wait, I hope I'm understanding this correctly.
Fools Rush In!Steve is post-canon--he's a version of Steve that came back after replacing the Stones from Endgame,--so technically, he already went through his actual Nomad years. I'm gonna have to assume you me pre-Dignity of His Choice (since that's when he kinda looks like Nomad or Ari Levinson whoops again) which is fine because after all of Dignity's angst, I'm sure people are afraid of where that leaves us--terrible of me to leave y'all hanging so long, sorry. OH CRAP! Welp. This is gonna have some spoilers sorta kinda for the honeymoon fic in the works...Yes, Ro, but when will we ever get that f***ing thing???
So. Right. Here we go! Sorry, but MINORS DNI for these still.
Tumblr media
woahhhhh omg he glows so pretty 🫠🤤

Z - Zones
Oh boy, oh boy!
Is it hot in here??? Just me? Sure. That checks out.
Steve has diminished sensitivity after the serum. It makes him stronger to feel less pain, but it's slightly more difficult in nearly ever other aspect of life. He feeds his tactile experience with the acuity of his enhanced senses. Ever heard the expression 'eating with your eyes?' Like that.
The sight of you, the smell of you, what you sound like, how you taste, these are all things he can absorb to fill in the gaps of his touch.
Now, the caveat? He's not a fucking idiot. He can tell if you are kissing, biting, scratching, or gripping him. He knows these are things you do for your enjoyment as well, so that fuels his entertainment during sex. After a whole lot of wallowing over how disconnected he felt without sensitivity, he understands this actually brings you two closer together because pleasure and intimacy is truly a shared experience.
Uh. Also. His neck. No judgment but he can hear and smell you very well if you pay attention to his neck. That's pretty great. He likes that.
P - Photography
Honestly, I just want to burst out laughing even imagining Steve taking a dick pic much less sending it 🤣 If he did do something like that, it would be an accident, and that boi would rush into some lab and insist there was a super secret mission to completely delete the contents of your phone before you opened it. I feel like he'd be lucky if he didn't just smash the phone itself out of panic. Seriously, I'M IN TEARS. Just no, hard no on the sending nudes.
I also think he'd be super worried about privacy if you sent them. The idea is sound, and it's not like he wouldn't enjoy them. Steve doesn't trust technology that much though, so not digital. Analog. Old school is the way to go. Which bring us to this cheeky bastard on his honeymoon with Keeps.
Enjoy this excerpt I've sat on for a year!
“What’s that?” “Your wedding present,” Steve beams. He fakes a frown at your following ‘we weren’t doing presents’ look. “Not big ones. They’re just for fun.” He picks up another Canon film camera, a hefty black and silver thing from his hard-sided suitcase, and hands it to you. “Thought they’d be nice for the trip.” You weigh it in your hands and eye the Polaroid then switch with Steve. “That’s more of an artsy-fartsy Sketch thing,” you say, stepping around him with your new toy, rushing to grab toasty sweatpants from your own bag. As you bend over to pull out the garment though, you hear a mechanical click and whip around. Steve still faces away from you, but his head is slightly turned and he softly whistles, so of course, you lift your camera and snap a picture of his ass, too. He wrinkles his nose, looking over his shoulder with an unhidden smile. You shake out the photo card provocatively while he suits up for the fireside in a sweater and jeans. He glances at the developed shot and, seeming satisfied, plants one more kiss on your forehead. He hums as he holds up his picture of you entering the tent, thumb tracing the line of your hip exposed like it was on the glossy magazine pages after your bear debacle. “Yes, out there distracting all the wild animals,” you joke. “It’s working,” he mutters. “Hungry, Misses Rogers?”
Also, lest we forget, Steve has an incredible memory. He does not need footage to remember exactly what it looks like when his cock is slowly dragging in and out of you, or how your ass jiggles as he ::cough:: enthusiastically fucks makes love to you ::cough::
Thank you for asking!

Hiyas, just wanted to let you know this is my first time sending something over anon in a VERY long time, your writing is just too good to keep up my 5 year lurking streak XD I love your darker Gale stuff sm, he’s so creepy and pathetic hdhhhrrhhhr. Honestly I think he’d pair well (by that I mean awful but in a sexy way) with a younger adult Tav, maybe 20 or so. As much as it’d make him blush or stammer if anyone ever brought up how his partner was literally half his age he’d get off on it for sure. Especially if they were inexperienced, sexually, romantically or otherwise. We all know this man is manipulative af so he’d for sure be pulling out the “Well, I thought you were mature enough to understand but I guess I was wrong…” card any and everytime Tav would try and set the tiniest of boundaries. He absolutely loves how easy their age difference makes it for him to convince them that he’s right, even against all better judgement. Just trust him to make the decisions, he’s been around long enough to know what’s best for you :))
God forbid this man gets the tiniest whiff of daddy issues, he’s going absolutely off the walls learning everything he can about how to set Tav off and feigning total ignorance afterwords. He’s just like what babe that’s crazy I had no idea I’m so sorry :(( but just so you know it would be totally fine if you wanted to call him daddy… haha jk jk.. unless…
Feel free to respond or add on if you feel like it, or don’t. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea so I 100% understand if this is one to stay hidden in the inbox ^^” but seriously thanks for all the awesome stuff and I hope you have a wonderful morning/afternoon/evening!
age gap manipulation is so <3<3<3
I'm just. Imagining a Gale who constantly hovers over your shoulder, he genuinely thinks he's protecting you from everyone else in the group. You're easily the youngest person in camp, so he thinks of himself as your mentor, someone for you to look up to. He takes you under his wing, protecting you from everyone that he thinks has ill intentions.
The problem is he thinks that of everyone. Time spent with your other companions without his supervision is nearly impossible. When you do manage to steal yourself away for a significant amount of time, he's livid. What in the nine hells were you thinking? Do you have any idea what might have happened if he didn't find you when he did? They all just want to use you, they're all well aware of how trusting you are. Are you truly that daft to believe they're not trying to take advantage of you?
Oh, love. His warm palms cup each side of your jaw, and he tries to meet your eyes. Don't make that face. Come here. He pulls you into his arms, holding you close to his chest. His breath is warm against the side of your face and you close your eyes as he speaks again. He's sorry. He didn't mean to upset you. He's just trying to keep you safe. One of his hands drifts down your side and you tense. His hand pauses, fingertips lightly skimming your hip. When you don't say anything the touch gets a little more insistent, probing. Like he's testing the water. He tells you he didn't mean to be so harsh. He gets a little bolder, the side of his face now pressed against yours so he can speak lowly into your ear. Let him make it up to you, hm? His hand drifts down to your thigh, tracing imaginary shapes against it. Such a good love. He can't wait to put all this nonsense behind him.

Hellooooo, for the lovers of kenpachi and shunsui, can we get a series of few headcanons on how he attracted her crush. How he would try to win her over. How would he flirt, react et.? thank you so much!
God, absolutely!!! To be honest with you, I’ve been constantly daydreaming about Shunsui trying to win over his crush (aka my bleach oc) so I’m really pleased to share them with you guys👀👀 as for Kenny, you’re all making me develop some feelings with this wave of Kenny requests. Anyway, I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy this!!!!!! I'm not sure this is what you wanted 🥹🥹
Trying to win over their crushes with Kyoraku Shunsui, Zaraki Kenpachi
Tags: flirting, just a lot of fluff
Kyoraku Shunsui
Shunsui knows how to play his cards, given his years of experience. However, he's not at the age of "playing around" anymore, he wants you so he'll be serious about it. No tricks, maybe only tiny tricks
His plan consists of a few steps which he doesn't necessarily follow faithfully, but they're rather a base for him to work around.
Every time he notices your presence, he’ll come right at you, striking a brand new conversation. He’ll often ask you about yourself, needing to know more about you, and the more you tell him, the more he is drawn to you.
He’ll often invite you to drink with him, sometimes with others along, but other times being just the two of you. Those times are amazing because god, his humor and dramatic demeanor are increased.
Booze also tends to make him so much softer than usual, and he doesn't mind it. He feels good like that around you, as long as it doesn't provoke any discomfort.
He’s very careful with you, noticing whenever something is troubling you. This makes him a little too insistent to know what’s wrong to help you, but when you make it clear he’s pushing it, he understands and allows you to cool. After all, he may like you to the moon and back, and you don't owe him any explanations, but the way he genuinely apologizes for his mistake warms you.
He simply does so many tiny gestures which mean a lot to you, but they’re all out of genuineness. He wants to subtly point out what he's willing to do for you.
When he notices you’re much warmer to him, he believes it’s the right time to unleash everything he’s been meaning to do to you. Also, make stupid tiny teases that cause you to blush, but he'll act all innocent and unaware of the effect of his words.
One evening, there he is, at your door. He came to invite you to a nice walk down the river, and as you two are on your way, there’s a tiny field of flowers. He stops to admire them, but his quietness worries you a little. You don’t even get to ask what’s going on when he lifts himself, holding a flower.
“Look at its beauty.” He exclaims, gently holding it between his fingers. But right when you mean to agree with him, he places it behind your ear. You watch him with widened eyes, wholly stunned by his move. There’s a soft pink hue over your cheeks but that’s fine, you don’t have to say anything, you’re good like that.
he takes notice of you slowly changing your behavior around him, and it makes him make more subtle moves on you
But the finishing move is when you're waiting for him to join you in drinking, and a creepy dude won't leave your table alone.
you suddenly notice the shadowy figure of Shunsui, towering over the unknown man. He doesn’t do anything, just glares intently with partly wide-opened eyes. It's the hint of displeasure in them that leaves you with a lack of words.
“What’s so hard to understand when a fair lady tells you to beat it.” The rough tone in his voice sends shivers down your spine but brings a sense of safety.
that moment will mark you forever because now you can't stop thinking about him for days, and at some point, you do realize you're in deep shit. You like him, A LOT
you think about confessing your love, and once you're brave enough and invite him to join you on a midnight walk, you don't even have to tell him you like him. He reads it all over your face, your emotions, your fiddling fingers.
it's the green light for him to ask you to be his beloved
Zaraki Kenpachi
Kenpachi doesn't really bother to think of ways to win you over. He just does what he feels.
This includes him asking you to train often times which is a little random for you but you don't question it
other times, you might find yourself alone with him and despite his intimidating presence, he strikes up a conversation that's actually enjoyable. It takes you by surprise just how considerate and warm he can be
he is considerably nice to you? Not like, super visibly nice but you can tell by the tone of his voice and the way he speaks to you that he treats you differently
he doesn't scream at you and is weirdly patient? but you're so used to people being impatient with you that you question how much it'll take for him to burst.
yet when you address this thought, he straight up tells you he has no reason to do that and it just, makes you feel all warm and fuzzy whenever you see him
he's not flirtatious in a romantic way but will do gestures like holding you in his arms when you're hurt or in pain, carrying your stuff around for you, pat your head when you do something good which happens oftentimes.
These play an important role in making you fall for him because physical touch is a huge thing for you. It creates a bond between you and him and you can't imagine not having him around
during battles, even after sustaining the tiniest injury, he'll just appear out of thin air, protecting you at all costs, and oh boy the feeling of security he gives you. Add the sight of ripped-off clothes too and you might find yourself in an odd situation
right when you think you're over your sudden thoughts of him, you find yourself being listened to by him while you vent some problems you're going through.
he's actually a good listener
and even discusses your doubtful thoughts and offers advice which is a little helpful.
if you ask him to have some tea with you, he'll say yes because honestly, he just wants to do things with you and doesn't really care for what you wish to do
this doesn't mean he'll act cold or disinterested, no no, not at all
he may or may not bring you things you remind him of and will use that explanation to "why did you bring me this?"
that reason is enough for you to blush and he's quick to notice
starting from there, he'll make teasing remarks which you consider jokes but the more he makes them, the more they sound genuine
"he can't be for real, right??? pheww"
however, you kind of lose yourself in his taunting game and accidentally reply with a thought you've been having for several nights about him
the realization causes you to feel embarrassed and turn your head in the opposite direction so you don't have to watch his face, but instead, you can't see the wide grin holding all over his face
"say that again." the way he urges you makes your stomach clench but you can't quit anymore. you like him, and you're going to let him know that
tiny note: If you got this far, I hope this isn't far too overboard compared to the result you desire. Though, I did have a lot of fun making this

Late to valentines day, but consider queer platonic strawhats.
Luffy, upon hearing about Valentine's Day ((Makino would likely have told him a bit about it as a child, but it got forgotten amidst the trees and critters and love and family and also trauma of living ten years in the woods with criminals and bandits as his company)) goes absolutely APESHIT. A day devoted to LOVE?? HECK YEAH SIGN HIM UP!!!! HE LOVES HIS FRIENDS SO MUCH!!!
Robin, Ussop, Chopper and he all settle across the deck and make crafts. Luffy is very much more focused than usual, both bc Hands Moving, Colors and Glitter Good, and also bc this is IMPORTANT so he's doing his absolute best.
He makes a card for every person on his crew. He also makes stuff for his friends all over, addressed to them by name. He can't send them, not really, because it's hard to remember the addresses (Nami helps with some of those), so the ones he can't send properly (Shanks, Buggy, Boa, etc) he throws into the ocean.
((There's a quiet moment after nightfall when he's sitting on the figurehead, holding a card he worked Extra Hard On. It's addressed to Ace, and Luffy isn't one to really... be sad. He tries not to be. He's worried about seeming weak.
The crew definitely caught on, though. Nami steps up to him, puts a hand on his shoulder. Tugs him back to the deck. She leads him by hand towards the center, where the other's are waiting. Franky is beaming.
He made a little lantern like device. It has a little pocket, and it floats up and up and up, "all the way to the heavens," he exclaims proudly. Nami mentions sending a letter to Bellemere. Chopper has one for Hiriluk. Ussop has one for his mom, Sanji for his own, Zoro to Kuina, Robin to Saul, Brook to the Rumbars, Franky to Tom. Jimbei carries a few, but merely smiles softly at Luffy.
He tries not to cry as they all load up their letters, but he feels better when the only response people have to the wetness on his face is a brief touch or side hug.
It's bittersweet, but somehow he feels better than he has in a very long time.
And with his crew around him, supportive and still there, still staying.... well, Luffy didn't think he could love them any harder. Full of surprises, the lot of them.
Late to Valentine's Day too, don't worry 🫶 And I consider Queer Platonic Strawhats every day of my life actually-
This is,,, So beautiful,,, I'm sure Luffy would absolutely love Valentine's Day to celebrate his love for his friends. Maybe Nami and Sanji tell him that's not exactly how it works, because it's supposed to be romantic, but when he asks them "Why, though?" they don't really, uhh, have an answer for that. So turns out their captain is right and they can use this day to celebrate all types of love!
I adore the idea of Luffy writing letters and cards and throwing them into the sea if he can't send them. It's just beautiful. Maybe in a bottle, pirate style. Maybe fate helps him and somehow those letters end up with the correct people. Who knows?
Also, Luffy would be extra clingy the whole day and Sanji would make a huge dinner for everybody. They'd have so much fun and Luffy would just,, Take a moment to look at all of them being happy for a second and he'd go "Now this is what being a pirate should be!" and it makes me really emotional.
Not to mention the Ace thing,, All of them sending their letters to their dead loved ones in the sky? Do you want to make me cry??? Because you're making me cry.
They're precious to me.

I am incredibly obsessed with Octatrio and completely blinded by their charm from their red flags…
can i request please octatrio came to ramshackle just to visit but suddenly they heard reader sing I guess I’m in love and they felt the sadness of the tone reader sing made them concerned and surprised reader hold picture of them 🫣
IM SORRY IF THIS TOO MUCH YOU CAN IGNORE IT SHSBSJSNS
the song got me so flustered when i stare at octatrio fanart and groovy card 😭
Trey just listened to that song and I- its so cute-
GN! Reader (any pronouns, they/them used)
Floyd
Oh dear... silly little Floyd... As soon as he walks into Ramshackle, he just hears your glorious voice, the lyrics saddening, throwing him into a mood swing and making him worried and sad... what happened to little shrimpy? Did someone hurt them? Why are they sad? He was desperate to find out, and give you a big sqeeze to cheer you up, until he gets into your room... and sees a picture of him and you in your hand while you sing.
"And why do I get so nervous when I look into your eyes? Butterflies can't stop me falling for you." you sang, staring at the picture, and so cue another mood swing, and now Floyd is in a silly mood again with a big mixture of happy and giddy, he can't contain it anymore, so he runs up behind you and gives you a big squeeze, causing you to jump slightly.
"Shrimpy!! I didn't know you liked me that much!! Hehehehehe!" he laughs, smiling at you with his classic sharp-toothed grin, making you blush slightly...
"Uhhh, y-yeah uhm.... how long were you there?" you ask him, embarrassed you were caught.
"Eh, I just got here a minute ago! Your voice is so pretty shrimpy... but you had me worried.... I thought someone hurt you..." he sighed, looking sad. Instantly making you feel guilty.
"I'm sorry..." you say regretfully, but then he hugs you again.
"Hehehe, it's okay, shrimpy! Let's go out together sometime!"
Jade
A beautiful voice you have... how sorrowful you sound, how sweet you look with that picture of him in your hand... He was initally worried when he first came in and heard you singing such a sorrowful song, but as soon as he saw you with the picture of him, he knew what was going on... You're in love with him, aren't you? He is not far too surprised, he has seen the way you look at him, even the slightest stare from you tells him loads, how you instantly turn your head quickly as soon as he acknowledges your staring...
"But I know now I've found the one I love..." you sang, you voice ringing in his ears like his favorite tune, he wishes not to interupt, but he must make his presence known sooner or later...
"A glorious voice you have, darling." he says as he approaches you, making you instantly turn your head back to look at him.
"Eh? J-Jade??? How long have you been there??" you ask, panicked.
"Oh, a little while, I didn't wish to interupt your glorious voice, but...." He leans closer to you, a sly grin plastering his face. "I couldn't wait to tell you how much I loved you..."
Your face turns a bright red, Jade chuckles, "Besides that, my darling, could you continue? Your song was lovely, I want to hear more."
Azul
He was rather confused... who hurt you? must he send the tweels after them? or should he teach them a lesson himself? Until he realized you were singing just to sing, and you were holding a photo of him that you had taken not too long ago, that be was gracious enough to smile for. His face lit up in blush, he was unsure of what to do or say... he liked you as well, obviously, but he was at a loss for words! Had he known you had already liked him, he probably would've been more prepared and chill about this... but he was too oblivious to see the signs, I suppose...
"And Darling this is more than anything I felt before, you're everything that I want, but I didn't think I'd find someone who is worth the wait of all the years of my heartbreak, but I know now I found the one." you sang, your voice stuck in his head as he panicked, what would he say when you finally noticed he was there? What would you say to him?
He tried his best to calm himself down until he heard you get closer...
"But now I know I've found the one I love..." you sang into his ear, making him basically explode, his face all red from embarrassment, you chuckled at his reaction as he was still at a loss for words, struggling to get even one word out of his mouth, he couldn't say it right now... but he loved you too.
(Trey is slowly but surely beginning to love Azul)

2024/01/30 Blog post by Wakana みんな、明日は何の日か知ってるかい?〜締め切りの日です〜
❗This is Fan Club EXCLUSIVE content❗ ❗PERSONAL USE ONLY❗ Do ❗NOT SHARE❗ on other sites ❗Join her FAN CLUB! Check out my detailed TUTORIAL ❗
Everyone, What Day Is It Tomorrow?〜Deadline Day〜
These are the present postcards and stickers for the people whose messages I read in the previous “Wakana’s Talk Garden”😍 I got New Year's cards and made some Shark-chan stickers in auspicious colours 🥳🎉 Gold, red and white! Aren't they super cute!? 😳 They might be my favourite so far 😊Everyone, please wait for it to arrive 💌
I keep using my failed attempts for myself💻 (Even though I make some mistakes here and there, I feel like I've gotten better at making stickers!!)
Hello, this is Wakana (0 ̄▽ ̄0)/
The next episode is scheduled for February 10th, I'll be looking for Valentine's Day cards to send to everyone whose message I read during the podcast~💓 Well, this time's theme is "Valentine's Day Memories"... Everyone! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! So far, there is only a very small number of messages! ! ! 😂😂😂 Only about 1/5 of the usual amount have been sent in! ! ! *laughs* What's happening?~~🥺Everyone, please don't leave me hanging~~🥺🥺 I'm happy with any memories, so please send them to me~🥺 You are gonna make me cry if you don't 🤣🤣
Even if you are the type of person that says they have no memories because they leave all their memories in the past and live comfortably in the present, please just tell me about this year's Valentine's Day ♡ *laughs* Let me know what you want to eat for Valentine's Day, maybe you want to eat ◯◯ instead of chocolate? Or maybe you want to propose to your lover on Valentine's Day?! ← I definitely want to hear about that! Or tell me a random trivia about Valentine's Day! Honestly, anything is fine\\\\٩( 'ω' )و ////
By the way, I recently got in the mood for Valentine's Day and bought my favourite Lindt chocolate 😊 Lindt is probably most well-know for their Lindor round chocolate! ! The first time I saw them was when I went to New York! ! I received this cute round candy-like thing at the entrance of the store, and when I ate it, it was so delicious...😆 Up until that point I hadn't been a huge fan of sweets but Lindt changed my mind! (I like the milk and white chocolate one with chocolate chips in it. The salted caramel one is delicious too! Also, the newly released matcha tea one! LOL) And these thin bars of chocolate are absolutely delicious too😳💕 I will sometimes have a glass of wine and some dried fruits with it, it's like I am in a dreamland😳💕 Of course it also goes well with coffee ♡ By the way, I always keep some bite-sized chocolates on hand for my morning coffee time. Meiji's matcha and strawberry chocolates are delicious (^^) I somehow ended up buying Kiss Chocolate when I went shopping a while back *laughs*. I like white chocolate and chocolate chips (^^)
There is a chocolate other than Lindt that I love, I received it from a fan a long time ago and fell in love with it, so much so that I ordered it myself the following year! But...I can't remember the name anymore😂😂 I am always looking through the department store's Valentine's Day special online store and hope I can recall what the packaging looked like! *laughs* I'm pretty sure it might have been a German chocolate, or maybe not...?🤔
Anyway, everyone, please send me you memories of Valentine's Day! I repeat, “Memories of VALENTINE'S DAY♡”😂😂 The deadline is tomorrow! ! I'm waiting! ! ! \\\\٩( 'ω' )و ////
I will be uploading rehearsal photos on Instagram for my online live on February 6th, so please look forward to it 😆 Until next time~☆( *'▽’*)/

from stars through my fingers like grains of sand
"Engaging grav drive," Cait said, touching a control; guitars shrieked and the universe opened up to receive them in a waterfall of light.
If you like to gamble I tell you I'm your man
If twice was a pattern, Cait really liked music when she was dogfighting.
Win some, lose some
It's all the same to me
Sam was on the stick; the second they dropped out of jump, he re-allocated power to the weapons. Good thing, too—Cait was equally quick to respond, sending the Razorleaf in a sharp dive after a Spacer Raccoon. It was a maneuver that would have left the Frontier groaning, but the 'Leaf took it in stride. The radio crackled to life; Spacers transmitting in the clear for intimidation effect. "Looky here, boys, we got ourselves a mark!" Cait just rolled around an asteroid, easy as dancing, while she waited for a targeting lock.
The pleasure is to play
Makes no difference what you say
A second voice came on. "Aw, honey, don't run. You just hit the wrong place at the wrong—" Another voice cut in. "Fuck—it's the Mantis! THE MANTIS!!!" The Raccoon abruptly stopped firing and tried to slew away, but—
I don't share your greed
The only card I need
Is the Ace of Spades—the Ace of Spades
"LOCK!" Sam snapped, as the firing solution came together, and the Razorleaf's weapons fired in anger for the first time in years. Cait had opted for dual particle-beams instead of the basic laser/ballistic combination, and they punched through the Raccoon's shields like they were tissue paper. "Got their grav drive!" Cait twisted the 'Leaf to drop in behind a Hyena, and Sam knew what she was doing; the Raccoon wasn't going anywhere; having crippled the small fry, she was going after the heavier hitter. They took a few hits—shields dropped to 80%—before putting a rock between them and the Raccoon.
"No way," the first voice snarled. "Scan that morph-suck—shit! Spin up the drives! SPIN UP THE DRIVES!" Sam couldn't help but laugh at the way the Spacer's menace turned so utterly to panic. "We're leaving—we're leaving! FASTER!"
"No, you're not," Cait growled, as the targeting lock sang out in counterpoint to the driving music. "Firing!" P-beams lanced out, invisible to the naked eye, but their effect was quite visible. The Hyena's shields flared yellow, then white, then actinic blue. Sam launched his missiles; they punched through the tattered remants of the Hyena's screens just before they failed entirely. There was just enough of them left to hold the explosion in; the Hyena's spine snapped in two as the reactor blew. "Nice shot!" Cait flipped the 'Leaf end-for-end and arrowed back toward the Raccoon.
"Please," the second voice blubbered. "Please, don't kill us—" Lasers spattered against the Razorleaf's shields, and above the din came the sharp, warning whine of incoming missiles.
"Shields at 40—30—!" Sam's harness bit into his shoulders as Cait hit the boost. The enemy missiles streaked past them harmlessly; Sam watched the Raccoon roll, trying to line up on where they thought the 'Leaf would be. Cait dropped the throttle to nearly nothing and let the Raccoon overshoot—right into her sights. Once again, the p-beams did their work, and the Raccoon detonated soundlessly.
The entire engagement had lasted about as long as the song had.

DEATH
Endings, Changing, Transformation, Transition
While this card is the most understood of them all, it can signify the end of something but rest assured it's talking about a stage in your life you are ready to give up and move forward from. You should embrace the future that the universe has in store for you.
The card is mostly about things ending and becoming new. Much like a butterfly, you are transforming yourself into something better. Death is something that happens everywhere-not just when signifying the end of a life.
Finally, death comes when you need to let go of unhealthy attachments that might be holding you back. Whether toxic or unneeded. You can't avoid the ending for certain things, especially not when they are not needed in your life.
XIII DEATH
Tumblr media
“You sure you don't want to audition?” Your friend asked you as you both stood out in the lobby of KQ.
You looked down at their attire, the number sheet hanging from their chest making something in you clench in sadness.
“I'm sure. I'll wait out here for you.” You told them, giving them a reassuring smile.
“Okay.” They told you skeptically.
“Hwaiting!” You raised your hands in fists, trying to show that you were there to support your friend the best you could.
“Hwaiting!” They repeated back, moving along the line to where they were holding some dancing auditions.
You looked around the lobby for a moment, before finding an empty chair and taking a seat to rest. You knew it was going to be a long while before your friend would come back out. There were a few people waiting out with you seeing as they were going in groups. A few boys were talking with each other and some others were practicing their dance moves. You felt someone come to sit down next to you, causing you to turn your head to face them.
“Are you auditioning too?” He asked you, trying to make small talk.
“Oh no.” You gave a kind smile. “I'm just here for moral support. Are you?”
“Yeah.” He grinned. “I'm very excited about it.”
“Sounds great!” You exclaimed, getting happy for him. “It must be something you love doing.”
“Of course it is.” He turned to you, his arms crossed.
“What about you? What do you like?”
You smiled bashfully at having his attention. He looked so adorable but that was probably due to his age. He sounded like he was much more mature than he let on as well.
“I enjoy music a lot as well.” You told him honestly. “But I have other things I'm going to study.” You sighed, looking down at your shoes.
“Do you like doing them? Do you enjoy studying what you are? If you don't, why study it?” He shrugged, turning back around.
“It's a bit more complicated than that.” You sighed.
It wasn’t that you didn’t want to study law–there was a lot of things that really did call to your attention. But nothing made you happy like music had. You didn’t know if you were cut out to be an idol but you would be more than happy to settle for a producer.
However your parents really tried to tell you that it wasn’t a guaranteed career. You knew they were right seeing as a lot of idols tended to not renew their contracts, but that was for a later time. You still had a bunch of years before you came across the ending. You didn’t want to give up on chasing your dreams. But there were just so many people telling you that other options were best.
“Is it really?” Jongho told you. “You should follow your dream especially if you have the opportunity right in front of your face.” He turned to you, leaning down to get you to look at him.
“Don't let yourself be the reason you never find happiness. Move forward with your choices and keep at it. That's how I got here and it's how I'm going to get there.”
You knew there was a point in your life you were going to have to give up and change for the better. Find new things that would take you to better places rather than holding you back in the same spot. You need to give up with things that weren’t in your mind from the beginning and start thinking about yourself.
“You're inspiring.” You giggled at him.
“Gotta practice to make sure the fans love me.” He grinned.
“I'm sure they will either way.” You told him, knocking your knee with his.
“I’m Jongho.” He stuck his hand out.
“(Y/N).” You gripped his hand tightly, giving it a shake.  “I hope to get the chance to work with you then.”

u saying ur good with any regulus ship is enough for me to present: Regulus/Rabastan (they are the product of a week's worth of academic testing on my end)
But, keeping this short, Rabastan doesn't like the Blacks very much, he thinks of them as crazy just overall terrible people. So when he sees a young Regulus Black, he immediately feels that he can separate Regulus from the shit mess of the Blacks (terrible idea really) Anyways, he ends up with a strange obsession of wanting to personally dissect Regulus’ brain that leads to him growing “soft” on the younger.
(Growing soft: he gives Regulus gifts to see his reactions, gifts end up more and more personal)
Regulus, on the other hand, thinks Rabastan is a little shit and it endears him to see the less-liked, sleazy Lestrange twin. It's like having a soft spot for things that are either messier or dirtier compared to something new and clean. It's almost like that for Regulus.
They also have a soldier-off-at-war-and-his-loving-wife-waiting-for-his-return thing going on during the first wizarding war where Regulus just stares at a clock unmoving when Rabastan is out doing DE things.
okay thats thank u for ur time
oh nonnieeeee this is the perfect dark!ship for regulus. hehehe just the age gap alone. bella who ends up marrying a lestrange is a whole 10 years older than our dear little reggie. yummy <3 so rabastan will probably be the same age as bellatrix or older.
idk if we're on the same page about this, but there's no way this is going to be a fluffy or foundationally sane ship. they're going to be fluffy with all the twisted implications of being together as the backdrop for whatever they do. like the fact that rabastan will have probably met regulus a teeny weeny boi, clutching at sirius, who is only marginally older than his brother. hehe.
the grooming, the suspicion from narcissa and sirius. the two, who don't always get along, manage to remain mostly civil as they try to make sure that regulus is never left alone for too long. because they see the way the older man looks at regulus for too long, cards his fingers through his hair like a wolf trying to play with its prey.
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT RABASTAN BABE. literally him, his brother, and bellatrix are three of the most loyal DEs of voldemort. he fully participated in frank and alice's torture. THIS IS A DARK SHIP. this is.... ya'll try to make the tamest ships (nd tropes) look bad but this is dark DARK. and i fucking love it.
hihihihihiiihih <3 okay i'm gonna stop here. i think i want to write more about them. because regulus is going to be a right little shit in this ship.
i'm sorry if this isn't what u had in mind but literally the lestranges are insane :// but thank you for sending these two my way!!
this has the makings of a good brainrot. i can make them so fucked up. i can make them so perfect.

Incoming ramble I wanna hear you’re thoughts on this cause it’s been on my brain for a little bit and it’s got me in my feels
K so I forget if it’s in the step 3 prologue or in the Drive moment but either way when on the topic of Cove leaving for Nevada every now and again and choosing how your MC feels about it there’s the option to choose that it makes you sad and nervous specifically because the little 8 year old in you (who remember was probably HORRENDOUSLY lonely) was scared that Cove was gonna leave and never come back
Now that option alone already gets to me (cause I relate to it hard cough cough) but just imagine the MC actually confessing to Cove about that fear!! Obviously the MC doesn’t want to make Cove stop going cause yknow he’s literally going to see his own mom but MC also can’t deny that there’s that sad lonely little kid inside their head who just doesn’t want to be left alone again so they’re kinda just stuck in the dilemma. But soon enough after feeling well enough to admit it they finally tell Cove about it and get to actually work it out!!!
It just- AUGH ITS GOT ME EMOTIONAL MAN I CANT-
cove would actually feel so relieved omg bc it makes him sad too and he misses you, ofc ik he says that no matter what but I think he also worries abt leaving n nevering coming back
very traumatized from the move after his mom n dad divorced n he tried to run away bc he missed krya, yk 😟
reassures you that he'll always come back, and that if that did happen he'd prbly try to run away to see you LOL
would offer to take you with him!!! if you're dating ofc you need to work it out w his mom a bit more than necessary but she wouldn't mind if you stayed over or came to hang out w them
I imagine krya spends a Lotta time at work anyway since she can't be on leave the entire time he visits, so she'd be relieved that he has someone to keep him conpany
he talks abt you so much anyway, it's like you're basically there w them already
if you can't or don't want to go with him, he'd video call you sm more
sends lots of pictures n texts and voice messages
tells you basically everything abt his day and sends gm and gn texts
NO VOICE MESSAGES
omg...
coves sleepy, raspy voice saying "good morning" (
sounds like this, would even call you sunshine like sonny did!!!😭😭
I'm falling apart
mmm if he's gone a long time he'd prbly even come see you, or meet you half way
which is stressful bc he has a long drive but he would bc he's crazy abt you
omg gives you a shirt of his.
BUYS MATCHING SHIRTS
omg and asks you what you're wearing every day until you say that shirt n he wears it like "omg!!! what a coincidence!!!!" babe we know u did it on purpose PLEASE
sends you flowers
n by send you flowers I mean asks his dad to pick up some flowers and deliver them to you
sends his dad money too but cliff would prbly pay for them once or twice bc he thinks this is so chge n send the money back to cove so cove is like "dad!!!" n just makes an order on his card bc his dad is so stubborn😭😭
cliff is actually in love w your guys relationship he's so happy,,, pls
I should write some hc's on how cliff feels abt you guys dating bc my man's is so happy!!!! pls. OK anyway
OMG YOU VIDEO CALL N EAT TOGETHER
will ask what you're eating n have the same thing if he can
OMG HE PICKS UP ONE TIME AND HE'S RUNNING ACROSS THE STREET N HES LIKE "WAIT DONT EAT YET I GOTTA PICK UP THE FOOD"
n you can just see his chin, the sky and then it's like kinda black n then for some reason u can see the floor and then he's like "sorry" and he starts running back to his car AGAIN
and so he delicately places the phone down n is panting n just goes, "sorry. I'm ready now" *throws his head back* "omg gimme a minute... man. climbing thru your window really came in handy"
KISSES THE SCREEN
big "mmmmwaahhh!!!"
or tiny "mweh", no in between
falling asleep on the phone too
WOULD TUCK THE PHONE IN.. OMG STOP IT
he's totally normal abt you I swear

Color Me Pretty
AN: I hope you enjoy! Let me know if you have anymore requests. I'll work on them 💜
Tumblr media
You stood in front of the mirror, feeling a sense of restlessness as you stared at your reflection. Your hair color and cut had remained the same for years, and you couldn't help but feel bored with the same old look. The idea of a pastel pink hue had been nagging at you for some time, but you couldn't shake the fear that it might not suit you. What if it brought out the redness of your skin or made your freckles appear too prominent?
Jamie cautiously entered the bathroom as you pondered these thoughts, his reflection catching your eye. You turned to face him, and he greeted you with a soft kiss. "Still debating?" He whispered, running his fingers through your long hair.
You leaned against the counter, "I'm not sure if I want to do it. What if it looks bad?"
Jamie smiles at you, "But what if it looks amazing? You might love it and regret wasting time thinking of how awful it will look."
You followed Jamie down the hallway, still unleashing your anxiety. "I'm getting older, and I can't even remember the last time I had a crazy hair color," You confessed. "What if people judge me and think I'm trying to get attention?"
Jamie sinks into the cozy couch and looks at you with concern. "Love, don't worry about what anyone else thinks, and let's be real, you're not old! Even if you were, people love seeing older folks rock a bold hair color. Remember how much we loved when Nana accidentally dyed her hair light blue?"
You smile at the memory. "She's gotta stop rolling her hair with that gel," You chuckle.
"Would you like me to go to the salon with you?" Jamie asked, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "I'll be your moral support!"
You nod, "You'd do that for me?"
"Yes, let's go before you change your mind and cancel your appointment!" He stands up, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He grabs his keys from the table. "It will be a fun new adventure!" He hurries you to the door, his energy contagious, and rushes you to the car, making sure to close the passenger door before you have time to change your mind.
You laugh as he starts the car and pulls out of the driveway, "You're crazy, you know that?" Your body relaxes when Jamie rests his hand on your leg. "This will be fun, right?"
When you walk into the salon, you are greeted by the most charming woman you have ever met. She exudes confidence, makes you feel at ease, and excites you about your upcoming hair appointment.
The best part? She shares all her secrets for keeping your hair color fresh and vibrant. And if that wasn't enough, she even lets Jamie sneak around to snap some pictures of you with over 50 foils in your hair.
"You look amazing," Jamie laughs. "I think you should just wear tin foils in your hair from now on."
Addie, your stylist, giggles at his comment and sends him back to the lobby. "We're going to wash this out, and we'll meet you up front." She tells him.
Jamie obediently follows her instructions and waits patiently in the lobby for your return. Jamie feels slight restlessness and eagerness to see your new look.
To pass the time, he pulls out his phone and scrolls through funny videos, chuckling to himself as he watches them.
Finally, he hears your voice and looks up to see you standing before him, adorned with long, beautiful pink hair. The vibrant color brings out the contours of your face and adds a new level of confidence to your already stunning appearance. Jamie feels a sense of pride that you overcame your fear and decided to do your hair the way that you wanted to.
"You look absolutely stunning. I didn't know you could get any more beautiful, but you are proving me wrong here. I love it!" He caresses your hair looking over the different shades of pink. "How do you like it?"
"It's different, I like it, but I think it's going to take a few days to get used to." You hand Addie your debit card and make sure to tip her well for her services. You tell her that she is now your favorite stylist and you will return to her when you need a touch-up.
When you reach the car, you pull the visor down and look at yourself in the mirror. You looked different but in a way that made you feel good about yourself. "Thank you for making me go."
"I couldn't let you cancel, not when you've talked about it for so long, darling. You look stunning, and I think we would have a nice dinner downtown. You deserve to be seen and appreciated," He urges with a charming smile.
You feel slightly tempted by his offer, but you know what you want deep down. "Honestly, I'm a little wiped out. I'd much rather go home, slip into my pajamas, and snuggle up with you for a cozy movie night. Besides, you still owe me from last time," you tease with a playful grin. "I'll hold a grudge if I don't get my cuddles in tonight," You add, giving him a stern look.
Jamie parks in the driveway, "Whatever you want." He rushes to your side of the car and offers his hand with a playful tease. "Come on, my queen, let's get you to your throne."
He wraps his arm around your shoulder as you walk down the small path to your home. You would never tire of Jamie and his silly personality.
You take off your shoes and practically run to the bedroom, where you strip down and put your nightgown on. You lift the blankets from your bed and cozy up in your nest. "Hurry up, babe!" You yell to Jamie.
Within seconds Jamie is in the bedroom turning the TV on. He scoots in behind you, hands you the remote, and pulls you back into his lap. He plays with your hair, splitting it into two equal parts, and begins braiding one side at a time. "Tell me if I'm being too rough."
With gratitude, you beam at his kind gesture and press the play button on the latest Dungeons and Dragons movie. "You're braiding my hair. I have no complaints."
Jamie completes the last strand of your hair and gently smooths out the tiny flyaways with a soft touch. He gently kisses the crown of your head and pulls you closer into his warm embrace, allowing you to lean into the comfort of his chest. "How does this feel, Love?" He runs his fingertips down the length of your shoulder, and a gentle shiver runs down your spine.
"It's perfect. Well, I suppose I'll let you live to see another day," You grin.
"How kind of you," Jamie replies with a chuckle. "Tomorrow, we're going out. I need the world to see how fantastic my girl looks."
The words he spoke brought a smile to your face that you couldn't contain. The feeling of being loved so deeply was nothing short of amazing.
"I think I need to color my hair more often."

Part 6
~SHATTERED~
Tumblr media
Something seemed off when you were asked to report to the task force base. No specific reason given besides that it was urgent. Going as far as to send someone to pick you up, needless to say you were already on edge.
So here you were in the office of your brother's Captain with someone you don’t recognize sitting beside you. Attempting to calm your raging nerves with a deep breath in, waiting for the man across from you to speak.
The breath leaves your lungs as the words leave Price's lips. Your brother was gone and they couldn’t even bring his body back with them, They left him behind… The breath didn’t return, feeling as though the room had filled with water, your chest clenched painfully, you were drowning.
Wondering if this has any parallel to how your brother felt learning of your capture those years ago. All the times he told you of the fear, the irreparable fear of loss, and now the tables were turned. The suffocating feeling of the world caving in around you, helpless to do anything.
There's a split second of silence before it begins,  deafening static slowly building deep in your skull. Numbly watching Price's lips moving but unable to make out the words.
Static still building, the room suddenly feeling all too bright as the back of your eyes ache. Not this again, not now, exhaustion beginning to overtake you, senses overloaded. You need to get out of here, to regain your breath before it all becomes too much.
Quietly excusing yourself to the bathroom with all the energy you can summon in the moment. Catching fragments of pity and regret spark in Price's eyes as he gives you a curt nod.
You make your way out of his office, heartbeat in the back of your throat, hands shaking. Catching sight of Ghost and Soap leaning against the far wall, you can’t bring yourself to meet their painful stare. That in itself would send you plunging over the edge of your oncoming panic attack.
Eyes meet the gray of the bathroom door, a sanctuary for the moment. You can feel your pulse building again, the tightness of holding back a sob ready to erupt from your throat. Shakily grasping a sink and turning on the water, desperate to wash the sweat from your trembling hands.
You freeze, gaze snapping up to your reflection in the mirror, a nightmare staring back at you, eyes brimming with tears still barely breaking through.
Weakness, so much weakness, suffocating weakness engulfing you.
Then comes the anger, tightness burning in the backs of your bloodshot eyes. The desire to scream, to attain some sort of release from this unbearable pain. Letting go of the cool porcelain of the sink, arms slack at your sides for a moment.
“I’m not done yet, I won’t let this be for nothing,” you murmur breathlessly, slowly pulling the phone from your pocket. The cold metal rests in your hand, eyes trained on the device momentarily before coming to a bleak decision.
Abruptly tearing the back off and ripping out the SIM card, tucking the chip safely into your pocket. Tossing the phone at your feet, the discarded electronic clatters into the floor.
Grasping the edge of the sink with one hand to retain your balance, you slowly bring your knee upward. Swallowing down any possible regret before slamming the heel of your boot into the device, shattering the phone screen. You repeat the action twice more before turning off the water and silently readying yourself to leave the bathroom as if nothing has happened. This would have to be good enough, giving you an untraceable head start.
You hold the handle for a few moments, letting the brushed metal cool your clammy hand. Before building up the courage to pry the door open, reentering the cruel world.
Turning in the opposite direction from which you came and refraining from looking back. Leaving the base without another word, without a goodbye. You're on your own from here on out, you couldn’t bear the thought of bringing anyone down with you. This wasn’t a game, there wasn’t time for that anymore.
They won’t know what’s coming before it tears them apart at the seams. The sorry excuse for human life responsible for your brother's death. There’s bound to be someone else out there mutually hungering for your target's demise, more than willing to dirty their hands if necessary. A little Bug just has to point them in the right direction.
There’s this part of you that wants to just keep your head down like a good little dog, but the rage snarls in your throat. If you did nothing you wouldn’t be able to live with yourself anymore, hell you barely could as it was.

Ghost and Soap are left leaning against the wall, on edge waiting for you to return. To tell you they were sorry for your unimaginable loss. Ghost notes as Price's head looks up from his paperwork to the clock on the wall. He silently wonders how long you've been gone, how long is appropriate to collect yourself in the loo?
“Think we should check on the lass?” Soap questions, eyeing Ghost from his spot beside him. The reaper's half-lidded gaze stares intently down the hallway, unwavering.
Grumbling in response, he pushes off the wall and briskly walks towards the direction of the restrooms with the Scotsman on his tail.
Soap clears his throat awkwardly as the two men stand in front of the door. A moment passes and Ghost raps on the surface with his fist a little too forcefully, creating a startlingly loud knock that rattles the door on its hinges. Soap grimaces at the assumed reaction from the other side of the barrier, but there is no response. They wait a few seconds before repeating the action… a little less forceful this time, still nothing but silence greets them…
Ghost is suddenly very alert and reaches for the handle. Opening the door and glancing inside, initially thinking it’s empty. His dark eyes scan the room a moment before snapping to the floor, his heart drops.
your phone lay shattered into pieces, this kind of damage was obviously intentional. Ghost turns on his heel abruptly, making eye contact with Soap.
“She's running,” he growls as the pair make their way to the parking lot. Off to your apartment in the hope of heading you off. They needed to find you before it was too late.
Arriving to find the door is already open, the pair are on high alert. Breaching the entryway, eyes scanning the disheveled apartment. Like a tornado had ripped the place apart, cupboards and drawers left hanging open.
“Bug, you here?!” words shouted into the space.
The two part ways to scour your flat, the hope of finding you quickly leaving the realm of possibility.
Ghost makes a bee line for your office, pushing open the slightly ajar door. He’s only seen glimpses inside before now, the once-controlled chaos ripped apart. Carefully wading through the countess demolished electronics now littering the floor.
The wall of empty server racks, stripped of their drives, cables ripped from their sockets and strewn in every which direction. You had taken or destroyed anything of importance, a very bad sign.
Ghost feels the well of fear pooling in the pit of his stomach. Remembering the drunken request of your brother, asking you not to leave again. But he's gone now… Was he really the only thing tethering you to this place? Was it selfish to think you would stay, for who, him?
In the midst of his frustration he nearly missed it, a post-it stuck to the monitor left abandoned on your desk. Reaching down he plucks the note from the screen, taking a moment to decipher text hastily scribbled in red pen.
‘Off the grid, do not come knocking’
You didn't want to be found… Ghost can't help but feel distraught at the notion. What was your plan here, did you even have one? All he had was this little piece of paper, no way of contacting you.
“You find anything, mate?” Soap calls to him from the living room. He considers showing him the note but decides against it, knowing full well it was meant for him. After all you trusted him, at least he hoped you still did.
“Negative,” Ghost murmurs, stuffing the paper into his pocket.
