Reasons I should play Stephanie Lauter some day:
i have the same vocal range as mariah
nerds are my type
i, too, feel stupid most of the time
we're queer.
i have lots of experience being pathetically in love and simultaneously in denial about it
*slaps top of my head* so much emotion can fit in this bad boy
i grew up as both a choir and theatre kid, so i'm really good at duets :)
sarcasm is dear to me
i'm literally her age irl
this is my one chance to be a cool kid, please
Post inspired by @literalcyborg's max post and @marvelmaniac715's grace post

Chaos and dressing rooms
Tumblr media
Alessia Russo x reader fic
-> Chaotic reader doesn't know how to do her hair, Alessia helps her out
➳ Masterlist
•─────⋅☾ ☽⋅─────•
The Arsenal dressing room was always a vibe, even if it was just for practice sessions. Usually, Leah Williamson would be blasting music, but with her being out with a torn ACL, Katie and Steph took over, making for a wild mix.
This would be your second season at the club and even with the new additions, you were one of the younger ones, forever in awe watching the likes of Kim Little and Beth Mead play. But you fit in well, making fast friends with Lotte and Laura who always laughed at your half jokes-half stupidity. In the beginning, Katie tried to recruit you for her pranks, but in the end, it was Jen who would take on the role of your ‘mentor’ for getting around and meeting people.
Now in your second season, four new girls were joining the team – Laia, Amanda, Cloe, and of course Alessia. Meeting them was easy enough, especially the English striker, as you had played her last season – but the other girls were nice as well. You not having competed in the World Cup, as you hadn’t managed the jump up to the senior Lionesses just yet, made it easier to meet Laia, who was joking with you as well as she could with her limited English.
Your dressing room cubby was situated between Steph and Beth who constantly were teasing you for taking forever to get ready – always the last one out on the pitch. Nobody thought anything of it, the girls just thought that you liked to take your time, or that you weren’t organized well enough, and while that was true, the real reason was you struggled to do your hair.
Every single day it was a battle – buns were insecure and fell out easily, tight pony-tails gave you a headache and the swishing hairs annoyed you to no end. Not being able to braid your own hair was incredibly annoying.
It's not like you didn’t try.
You did.
Every single practice session and game, at home before going out, and just when you were bored – nothing worked. After a while your arms started to hurt and tears threatened to fall due to frustration. That’s why you were the last one out, giving your hair just one last attempt before giving up and throwing it in a nice and easy low bun.
And today was no different. It was the third training session since the girls got back from the World Cup, and the new players joined them. Everyone was hyping themselves and each other up before they left the room.
“Has anyone seen my Jersey?”
Jen rolled her eyes, “In the bathroom.” With quick steps you retrieved your jersey, no clue how it got there.
On the way back you tripped over Laia’s shoes – the Spaniard barely catching your arms and keeping you from hitting the ground.
“Where are my shorts?”
“In my bag, you left them yesterday, I washed them.” Katie threw them to you, your forgetfulness and clumsiness highly amusing her.
---------------------------------------------------
Slowly everyone left but you. When you didn’t see anybody you tried again, desperately trying to braid your hair in front of the quite high mirror.
“Why isn’t this shit working?” With a loud clattering, your brush fell to the floor.
“God damn it! Why can’t I do this? Why am I so stupid?” Alessia, who was still in the bathroom listened with a little smirk on her face until she heard your voice wavering. You were always so fun to be around, so hearing you this frustrated with yourself and being so mean to yourself was new and terrifying for the striker.
“Fuck this.” You had given up, resulting in a low bun. Alessia heard you throw your brush into some corner, frustration getting the better of you.
Not wanting you to be embarrassed, she waited until she was sure you were gone before entering the changing room. The brush she picked up was littered with cute little stickers, and covered in hair - obviously yours.
The tall blonde could just imagine you roughly brushing your hair in anger, feeling sorry for your scalp.
Carefully she put it down in your cubby, and before she left Alessia collected your things that were all over the room and folded them neatly for you.
The rest of the team and training staff were already standing in a circle when Alessia joined them.
“Looks like we have a new late-commer!” Jonas was laughing at the striker, not mad at all. When Alessia's eyes met yours, she could see the realization dawn upon you – She had been there when you were so harsh to your mirror image.
During the whole training session, you were much quieter than usual, embarrassed that you had been caught – by Alessia at that. Alessia who was new, and who you admired so much.
Katie, your traings-buddy tried to get information, on why you were so strange, but you deflected, making her talk about Lauryn’s game instead. While the Irish woman obviously knew what you were doing, she was more than happy to talk about her little sister to someone genuinely interested – even if it was just to distract you.
Alessia tried to get close to you, but somehow you were always gone before she got there. At the end of training, you just packed your bag, not even changing, and stormed out the door.
You took notice of your thing being neatly folded on your cubby and you briefly glanced at the tall blonde who was already looking at you.
“She was weird today, right?” Kim, who liked to title herself as your big sister asked into the silence that you left behind.
“Yeah. Yeah, she was.”
---------------------------------------------------
The next day your chaos started all over again, and the older girls were relieved that you seemed to be back to normal again. Alessia was surprised that you even talked to her, she thought you were mad at her when you really just needed to get over your embarrassment.
After everyone else left, it was just the two of you left.
“I’m sorry that you had to witness that. Yesterday, I mean.” The striker knew what you meant and sat down next to you, one of her big hands stroking your back, trying to get you comfortable.
“Don’t worry about it.” It was silent for another second, your cheeks felt like they were on fire from blushing so hard.
“You’re not stupid.” Her hand stilled and she gently grabbed your chin, turning your face to her. Your brain just blanked, and she saw, “You were really mean to yourself yesterday – You are not stupid.”
Upon your attempt to turn your flushed face away from her, she held it more firmly. “Do you understand amore?”
A weak nod earned you a raised eyebrow. “I’m not stupid…” The blonde smirked satisfied and turned your face to press a kiss to your cheek.
“Come now, I’ll braid your hair. No need to make your scalp bleed anymore.” With gentle hands she pulled you in front of the mirror, braiding your hair with quick fingers before squeezing your shoulders when she was done.
Katie and Beth wiggled their eyebrows at the two of you when they saw Alessia enter the pitch with you at her side – your face so flushed no one could miss it.
And from that day on, Alessia did your hair in the dressing room. But it wasn’t kept a secret for long, so with her help, you managed to get ready on time. Alessia, your own little assistant, who would never complain about your jitteriness, clumsiness, or forgetfulness. An angel sent from heaven – or hell when you looked at Manchester United.

Sorta sequel of this post (where Bruce is happy that Damian has totally and completely normal human friends). You don't have to read that one to get this one tho lol.
Slight Trigger Warning: minor description of injuries and blood, including injuries to ears and scalp. It's quick and not much detail on the injuries themselves, but I wanted to give a heads up.
Tim always thought his friend group was the most unhinged in the family.
Not anymore.
His friends at least had enough of a sense of self preservation to book it when Bruce caught them doing something they shouldn't and leveled them with A Look.
Tim's pretty sure Damian's friends call god a bitch to his face everyday and give him a wedgie in a Denny's parking at least twice a week. He's positive he saw them roast one of the League's S tier world ending threats to the point of tears last weekend. The footage was too badly corrupted to prove it, but he knows what he saw.
All of which to say, he's shouldn't be surprised when Bruce levels little Elle Nightingale and her cousin Billy Batson with his patented "You Are In So Much Trouble" BatDad Face (TM) and the little hellions just grin back at him, entirely unaffected. Shouldn't be but still is because holy fuck even Jason will still back off when Bruce levels him with that look. And these kids had the gaul to ask Bruce if they could go get ice cream after they were done here.
Bruce blinks first. It feels like an omen for the ends times.
Tim can't blame him though, you can’t look into the heart of insanity and chaos like that for too long without risking losing something in the process. Steph was right, they really are nightmare demons sent to feed on their fear and uncertainty.
Billy swipes a smear of blood away from his busted nose with the sleeve of his torn and dirty shirt. Elle's teeth are pink and red from blood - Tim isn't sure if it's better or worse that it's not her blood. Jon was bouncing between fussing over Damian - who Superboy had been mostly able to keep from joining the fight and thus probably saved a couple of lives - and casting worried looks at his two bloody friends as they stood lined up in front of Bruce. At least one of them had enough sense to be wary of that look.
Tim would say that Jon was the well behaved one of the bunch - and worryingly enough he might be - but he'd heard him yelling give em the chair at one of the two scrappers as he and Bruce came running over so he knows it's only the fact that a punch from even a baby Kryptonian would have killed a person that kept the littest Kent out of the fight rather than any idea that the fight itself was wrong. All four children look ruthlessly proud of each other.
The ones the hellions were fighting - a couple of guys Tim's age who had been stupid enough to try and bully Damian at all, let alone in front of his pack of feral raccoons - looked like they'd gone several rounds with Killer Croc before being thrown around by Bane and run over by a car. They deserved it- assholes - but they still looked rough.
One was bleeding from several bite wounds Elle had inflicted on him, earlobes a mess from where the little girl had torn his earrings out, both eyes blackened and swollen to the point he couldn't open them anymore. The other had a large red and bleeding bald spot from where Billy had ripped a good chunk of hair out, nose completely shattered- likely in retaliation for what had been done to Billy's - and elbow hanging at an odd angle. Tim's not sure which one of them had the chair - thankfully one of those fabric folding ones and not something more solid - broken over them, or which hellspawn had taken Jon's suggestion to heart, but either way he could see the twisted up remains of the item in question laying not too far away.
At least the EMTs were ushering the two weeping teens away into ambulances so they could get taken care of. Tim's pretty sure Elle and Billie would try and get a few more hits in otherwise and knowing them he doesn't doubt that at least one of the cops that had shown up on the scene would end up losing a finger or two in the process. Which normally Tim would be fine with - he has files on all of these guys and they deserve way worse than what a couple twelve year olds could do to them - but in this case he's already having a hard time convincing the officers that it's just a matter of some kids defending one of their friends from a couple of bullies.
Ugh. Some people just didn't understand children and it really showed. It was a public park, kids were gonna be kids. Just a normal childhood scrap. The real problem were the highschoolers who tried to start shit with a group of little kids.
Sure the hellions were feral and unhinged enough to be unbothered by Bruce trying to chide them about starting fights instead of getting an adult to help, but at the end of the day playground scuffles will happen and the kids were just defending themselves. Cops should be thankful that BL wasn't able to join them for the day or someone would have ended up shoved into a cooler or something.
Eh, whatever. He got them to drop the assault charges - which were ridiculous, Elle & Billie were normal twelve year olds getting into a fight, it wasn't like it was Damian with all his training and skills - and Bruce had given up on trying to be disapproving of them not reporting the attempted bullying to him instead of handling it themselves. Probably because at the end of the day he was a little proud of the little shits for defending Damian and standing up against some bullies. And really Tim was too. They might be vicious little hellspawns sent there to torment them all, but they were good kids at the end of the day and they cared about Damian enough to throw down with guys twice their size.
Tim pulled up a list of the nearest ice cream places on his phone, Bruce was totally going to cave on that front and even if he didn't Tim was willing to use his executive Big Brother privileges to get them ice cream anyway. He isn’t going to need to though. Jon had thrown his puppy dog eyes into the mix on that front and Tim knows from experience how much a kryptonian looking hopeful could get away with when it came to this family. Hell, Kon had probably taught his little brother that face for these exact kinds of situations because of how effective it was.
"I'm still going to have to tell Jazz about this." Bruce said as they shuffled off towards the restrooms to try and get everyone cleaned up, a parting shot to make up for his failure to cow them earlier.
"Please don't tell her! She’s gonna make us read articles about conflict resolution again!"
"B come on that's no fair! You said we did good not letting those assholes get away with their bullying shit!"
"Language!"
Huh, Tim thought with a grin. Maybe the little demons weren't as terrifyingly unstoppable as he thought.

I bet the arsenal kids where happy with todays win. What were their reactions.
Bug is the number one Stina fan today. She wants Stina to help with her shooting.
Bean huffed and puffed the entire match and then told Leah she should stop giving her heart attacks and Arsenal should learn to start scoring in the first half.
Tesoro told anyone who would listen how much she loves Lessi and it was just bad luck that she didn't score today.
Katie gave Kiddo so many cuddles when she came off and Kiddo told her when she needed to go to the toilet so it was a very good day for both of them.
Gremlin got to scrap with Steph Houghton in honour of it being her last home game.
Angel got cuddles for most of the game before Steph got subbed on and then she sat on Teyah's lap (who sneakily took off her hearing aids when Angel got whiny)
Liefje, honestly, couldn't care less. She got to sit on the bench and talk to whoever was sitting next to her about a new shark fact.
Fox kept sliding around and falling so doctor Munchkin was on the case when she came off.
Emma lost her match today but Frida won so Squish was very much torn between giving Emma lots of kisses and cuddles as an apology over it and showering Frida and the team in praise when she called.
Guppy watched it at home with Lia while cleaning and kept telling her that she hoped that she could help wash all the smelly kits tomorrow. Lia sighed and wondered how she had raised a kid that got excited about washing.

You Don’t Know Me, But I Know You 6
Chapter 6 out of 6
5 times Tim showed he stalked Robin + 1 time Jason did
Inspired by this post of thecrazyleader.
On AO3.
Ships none
Warnings: none
~~~~
+1. Jason Acts Familiar
It’s a slow night. No one has commented on it yet, since none of them want to jinx it, but all have been luxuriating in the quiet.
“Since when does DC have a branch in Gotham?” Tim’s voice suddenly breaks the silence.
“What is this DC? Is it a new terrorist organization? I have not heard of them,” Damian asks.
“No, it’s a coffee shop, most people call it DC Coffee, but the C already stands for coffee, so that’s stupid,” Tim explains. “They were never in Gotham before.”
“Ugh, of course you wouldn’t just call it DC Coffee, because you’re a pretentious ass,” Steph rolls her eyes. “What sort of monstrosity do you order?”
“I don’t order a monstrosity,” Tim says offended.
“Yes, you do,” Jason inserts himself into the conversation. “It’s literally called the Death Wish and it’s the only chain that serves it. Of course you’re excited it’s here.”
“Shut up,” Tim hisses, but it’s overshadowed with multiple concerned family members preemptively banning him from entering. Bruce even considers buying it, so he can quite literally ban Tim.
“My coffee intake is not that bad!” Tim shouts over the noise. “No one in the family is normal about caffeine, I just get singled out for it. It’s unfair. Let me go to my favorite coffee shop in peace. I usually only get to go there on bus…” Tim falls silent suddenly.
After two beats, a concerned Dick tentatively asks: “Are- are you good, Baby Bird? What’s happening?”
Ignoring Dick, Tim asks: “Hood, how the fuck did you know what I order? You’re literally never there when I do, because I only get to on business trips or when I’m at Titan Tower.”
Jason is quiet.
“Oh my god, have you been stalking me? You’ve totally been stalking me,” Tim exclaims, torn between disturbed and delighted.
“No, I haven’t,” Jason protests, but Tim ignores him.
“After weeks of calling me a stalker and a creeper, here you are, doing the exact same. I can’t believe the hypocrisy!” Tim goes on.
“I wasn’t stalking you!” Jason yells, hoping to be louder than Tim to shut him up.
It works. Tim falls quiet. But then Steph asks: “Then why do you know his coffee order in a chain you’ve never seen him go to. Even I didn’t know that and I dated him.”
“Yes, how did you obtain this information without observation?” Damian inquires.
Jason is quiet for a second, then says: “Okay, so it wasn’t without observation, but observation and stalking isn’t the same at all.”
“It totally is,” Tim exclaims indignantly.
“No, it’s not,” Jason argues. “I was observing your routine so I could break in and kill you, that’s not at all the same as running around at night, because you’re a creepy looser, whose only human interaction is through a camera lens.”
“Okay, harsh,” Tim says.
“Yeah, way too harsh. I mean, I agree with you and I love ragging on Red Bridie-boy here, but that’s- that’s a lot,” Steph says, a jikes in her voice.
“Alright, yeah, you’re right, sorry, that was too much,” Jason agrees. “But I still think it’s not the same.”
“It totally is,” Tim says, easily forgiving the harsh words. They truly have gotten closer. Then he proceeds to be a little shit by crowing: “Stalker, stalker, stalker. Red Hood is a stalker.”
“Shut up, shut up, shut up,” Jason chants, trying and failing to drown him out.
“No. Creeper, creeper,” Tim starts up, Steph having no trouble joining in, despite not even agreeing with Tim.
“One of my plans was fucking poisoning you with your coffee order. I can dust that plan off, if you don’t stop right the fuck now,” Jason threatens.
“Still a stalker,” Tim singsongs, before turning off his com. He hasn’t taken Jason’s threat seriously in ages, he wonders when that happened.
What do the Batfam look like in your "Not a baby (yes you are)" fix?
Like specific descriptions & stuff?
I REALLY want to make fanart, but be accurate to your fic & your idea!
Maybe also a small description for Danny & some changes he might go through so I can also draw him?
I look forward to any response!
(I'll give you what leviathan appearances that're set in stone since Babs, Steph, and Cass still need a bit more thought.)
Bruce's species is closely related to the gargantuan leviathan meaning he's pretty big like so big he shouldn't be living in the crater. He mostly lives in the larger more open areas but really he should be living in the void. He's more long than wide like a snake with thick pitch black scales covering him like armor. He's one of the few leviathans with "hands" four clawed fingers on each of them. He keeps the head shape of the gargantuan leviathan's with six glowing white eyes. basically a huge freaking underwater snake with a mouth of razor sharp teeth.
Damian's a hybrid between Bruce and Talia (A ghost Leviathan) he's just big enough to wrap himself around Danny's base once but he's not done growing yet. Like Bruce he's long and snakelike but he lacks the visual scale armor all over his body. Only his forehead, chest and arms have the pitch black scales. His fingers are clawed extremely sharp but he's only got four on each hand. the rest of his body is semi transparent and pale like the ghost Leviathans. He's got what looks like blue, yellow and green stripes on him but those are really just organs and blood vessels you can vaguely see through his skin. He's got some short tattered fins that run along his the sides of his body which are dotted by a line of bioluminescent spots. His arms are kind of lanky like a cat that's not quite fully grown. He's got a similar head shape to Bruce but his jaw is slimmer, his teeth more crammed together as is a (inefficient) filter feeder.
Tim looks similar to a squid shark. He's one of the smallest of the batfam. He doesn't have any arms just two large dorsal fins on each side of his body and two long, thin electric blue tendrils below them that can clumsily grab things though he shocks everything he grabs. He lives in the deeper areas of the blood kelp forest so the top side of his body often has blood oil clinging to him to blend in. Like the squid shark he's got that freaky jaw and jets to propel him through the water.
Duke is based of the hover fish in color scheme his yellow body is covered in spots some of which are shaped like bats including a white spot on his main chest. He's got two blanket like fins at the sides of his body and his gills give off a metallic shine to attract prey. The chapter where we get a glimpse of Duke Danny describes him as snake-like but really he's thicker and more like a betafish in shape.
Dick shows some resemblance to an amp eel with his exoskeleton being like armor plating and his whole electric but that's where most of the similarities end. He's got javelin like fins and spindly arms that he uses for climbing they're can become electrified when he's stressed like the rest of his body. He's built to be extremely quick with a wide range of maneuverability but he's still too big for the shallows. He keeps his Nightwing color scheme of black and blue although the colors are more muted.
Jason obviously resembles the Reaper leviathan. He's got burn scars across his body and one of his fins has been torn in half. His head shape is almost indistinguishable from a regular reaper although he's got a few extra eyes two of which are dulled stained slightly green (dormant Kharaa) he's got a horn at the top of his head he uses to launch things at top speed (fish version of gun) He's bigger than any of the reapers and a deeper red in color it's only if you look at him long enough that you can realize his patterns are different.
As for Danny he's a little kid looking to be around the age of two or three. He's got fangs that inhibit his speech a bit giving him a bit of a lisp. His eyes are still blue but if he's in a darker area they glow a bioluminescent green along. His hair has patches of white and his ears are pointed.
(For now, only Tim has his humanoid form designed but I'll reblog when that changes)
your steph x teen!reader fic seems really cool!! eager for when it continues!!
is there going to be a fluffy bonding moment next or some angst??
Struggling Part two-
Later during team bonding night Steph came over to you and asked if her and Sam could speak privately with you. You looked behind Steph at Sam who just nodded so you bedrudingly stood up and followed them to one of the unused media rooms. They sat on one couch while you sat by yourself on the one across from them and shifted uncomfortably.
"Do you want to tell us what's going on?" Sam asked and you shook your head
"Nothings going on why?" you asked hoping your question would bring them off the subject. You know you said you wanted to be heard and listened to bt you couldn't help but feel like this was a trap.
"How's school? Any homework or assessments?" Sam asked with a raised brow and you shrugged
"Dunno" you said looking down at the coach as you squished it every now and again
"Well that happens when you don't show up" Sam continued and you looked at her
"What does that mean?" You asked confused as you were naive and didn't think she'd find out you hadn't been going to school
"You know what it means." Steph this time replied firmly but you also heard a pinch of disappointment which made you sigh and your shoulders sag
"oh" you said defeatedly. You were torn; on one hand you wanted to tell them what has been happening at school but on the other you're scared they won't believe you.
Unknowingly to you Steph and Sam shared a look and decided stern captains weren't the way to go with this situation and instead decided to comfort and make you feel safe enough to tell them what was wrong. They moved to either side of you and wrapped you up on their arms and that alone nearly made you crumble.
"Cmon kiddo you can tell us what's wrong. We promise we won't judge you and we'll help you the best we can even if that's just sitting here with you, giving you big hugs or leaving you and getting mini" Sam said as she rubbed your shoulder
"Not mini" you mumbled while Sam and Steph shared another look over your head
"why?" Steph asked confusedly as usually you would go to mini for every little problem you have
"she wouldn't let me explain and she'll get mad at me" you let out as a few tears slid down your cheeks which none of your captains saw due to your head still facing the couch.
"Is this about the punch?" Sam finally connected the dots while you just nodded as more tears fell down your cheeks and onto the couch which caught both of their attention as Steph brought you properly into her arms.
"Awww bubs, it's ok" Steph shushed as you were now full on sobbing into her arms as she rubbed your back reassuringly.
"she wasn't mad at you" Sam said as you and Steph turned to her slightly and her a really look "ok she was in the moment but I promise she isn't now and she's really worried about you, actually everyone is" Sam said grabbing one of your hands and holding it between her own.
"Look we know something is wrong but we're not gonna force you to tell us ok?" Steph said and you shook your head at her
"No I wanna tell you guys" you said after you had taken a few deep breaths and regained your breathing.
"Ok then, that's fine too" Sam said sort of surprised at how quickly you had given into telling them.
You told them everything. Down to every key detail but they didn't complain and on one hand were haooy you were expressing this with them but on the other sad they hadn't listened to fully in the first place. They were also mad at them girls and decided since you didn't like the teachers at your school anyways they were gonna talk to Tony about you doing homeschooling instead of going into school.
"Thank you for telling us all that" Steph said "we promise to listen to you next time and every time" she explained as she held your face in her hands so you would look at her. You nodded happy that you got the guts to speak up a bit more.
"Should we talk with mini?" Sam asked as you shook your head
"Maybe tomorrow I'm really tired" you stated which was backed up by a yawn.
"Ok kiddo whenever you're ready, good night" Steph said giving you a hug followed by Sam before you left her embrace and walked up to your room and got ready for bed.
Steph came back to the room later to see you asleep with a slight smile on your face as opposed to the tear tracks she had known you had the last time she came to check on you.
Batkids reaction to finding bruce and khoa making out would be:
1. Dick: Traumatized, offended, scandalized. Bruce shouldn't be allowed to make out with anyone, he's a FATHER. Would be forever mortified by the revelation. "DAD????? WHAT IS THIS????"
2. Jason: same as Dick, but later on he would actually be capable of teasing Bruce about it, and he would do it relentlessly. He would also threaten to tell Alfred what Bruce and his boyfriend were doing in this old wayne tapestry to get him to do what he wants.
3. Tim: "I thought you were too old for this 🤨" Would also proceed to construct a mind erasing machine for himself
4. Damian: He would think father is being attacked and go right into fight mode. Would try to slice Khoa open with a katana, and Bruce would be tempted to just let him do it and play along. The conversation after would be... something.
5. Cass: silently Traumatized™. Would get out of there real quick, undetected. No one would know but her.
6. Steph: would be torn between "OH MY GOD MY EYES MY SWEET INNOCENT EYES THIS IS SO GROSS" and Teasing Mode. She would make Bruce regret all his life choices.
8. Duke: he's leaving the city right now and refusing to speak with Bruce for WEEKS, maybe MONTHS
This Love is Ours
You never know what people have up their sleeves Ghosts from your past gonna jump out at me Lurking in the shadows with their lip gloss smiles But I don't care, 'cause right now, you're mine And you'll say Don't you worry your pretty little mind People throw rocks at things that shine And life makes love look hard The stakes are high, the water's rough But this love is ours - Ours by Taylor Swift
Jazz Fenton stared down at her girlfriend, her arms crossed over her chest. This was the third time tonight that Steph had tried to sneak out of the house and Jazz was just about to strangle the woman.
“For god’s sake, Stephenie! You’re a nurse! You should know better than anyone that you need to be on bed rest right now!” Jazz shouted, walking towards where her girlfriend was carefully and struggling to put on her Spoiler suit.
“It’s just a gunshot wound,” Steph mumbled, nearly falling over as she tried to put on her pants only for her Amazon of a girlfriend to haul her up in her arms bridal style.
“It was three gunshot wounds, and you’re lucky that none of them hit anything serious, now you’re going to lay down like a good girl,” Jazz told her, walking back to her girlfriend’s bed and carefully setting her down. Jazz and Steph had been dating for about a year now. It had been a year of ups and downs as Jazz learned about life outside of Gotham City and what cursed herself with getting involved with vigilantes yet again. She had thought she left that behind when her brother had moved to Metropolis for school and Team Phantom broke up.
But apparently, Jazz just had the best luck in the world and found herself involved yet again. Slightly, not really. It definitely wasn’t the same this time around. Now she was just dating a vigilante and dealing with the fallout. She had told Steph she wanted nothing to do with the vigilante aspect and thankfully her girlfriend had been okay with it—after she finished reeling over the fact that Jazz had figured her out so fast.
It had been their first actual date that Jazz had told Steph that she knew, and Steph had taken about ten minutes to reboot before demanding that Jazz tell her how she figured it out. But how could she not? The first time they met had been when Jazz had started her internship at the Gotham Hospital. She had been torn for so long between being a professor, a therapist, a lawyer, and a surgeon and surprising everyone. Apparently, everyone had made bets on either her being a therapist or a professor.
Which, understandable, as she had a tendency of being a know it all. But it had ultimately been Frostbite who had inspired her to become a surgeon, to be able to heal others, to help those who had been hurt. Plus all the years helping Danny definitely went into play. So there she was in her first surgery, ready to throw up when she looked over at Nurse Brown who was giving her a wary look. Jazz had been nervous as hell the entire operation and as soon as the operation had ended, Jazz had run out of the doors as fast as she could and heaved.
Nurse Brown had been right behind her, rubbing her back and giving her soothing words to comfort her. Afterward, she had taken Jazz down to the cafeteria and gotten her crackers and a Sprite that she slowly munched and sipped on while she asked her about her life.
It was then that Jazz had her clocked. Steph was definitely more than just a nurse. She had watched the way she sat, ensuring that she saw all exits in the lunch hall. She saw the way she kept her shoulders tense, her eyes narrowed, and how she followed each of Jazz’s movements. It all reminded her of herself, of Valerie, Danny, Sam, and Tucker, and how they had all been the exact same way.
Jazz had managed to learn how to ignore it, how to be more subtle about keeping an eye on everything. Besides, nowadays she relied more on her extra abilities due to her liminality. It turned out that having a mother working around ectoplasm while pregnant and then growing up around ectoplasm and going to the infinite realms as often as she did, meant the radiation would turn you a little less human and a little more ghostly.
Not that Jazz minded, the super strength, the enhanced senses, the speed, they were a major plus, especially living in a place like Gotham where there was danger at every corner. She wasn’t as fast as say, the Flash, or as fast as even Danny but she was definitely faster than the average human. Her strength was nothing to laugh at either, while it wasn’t ghost-level strength, she could bench press a thousand pounds with no problem. Which was beyond enough in Jazz’s opinion.
Relying on her liminal gifts, though, kept her at a constant advantage, she had Steph figured out way too quickly and easily. Once she had pegged her as a vigilante, she had realized she was Spoiler as the blond hair matched. This wasn’t her first rodeo, unfortunately.
“Three gunshot wounds, one in the right shoulder, one in the thigh, and one in the abdomen, I know, I was there, I got them,” Steph said and let out a huff as she slammed her hands against the mattress and glared at the ceiling. “I’m bored."
“And going and fighting crime in spandex and Kevlar sounds like a fun time to you?” Jazz asked, arching a brow as she sat down beside her girlfriend and pushed the hair out of her face. “Rest, please. I don’t want to have to redo your stitches again,” she said softly.
Steph sighed and held Jazz’s hand to her face. “I’m sorry, I’m making you worry again, aren’t I?” She asked and Jazz just gave her a sad smile and nodded.
“I thought I lost you, you know. When Alfred called me and said you had been shot, I don’t think I’ve ever run that fast in my life,” she said with a laugh. She moved her hand from cupping Steph’s cheek and ran her hands through her hair.
“I know,” Steph said with a chuckle and then winced. “I believe one of the first things you told me after saying you knew I was Spoiler was that you wouldn’t do house calls and I’d have to find someone else to stitch me up. But there you were, shoving both Alfred and Dr. Thompkins out of the way to fix me up yourself.”
Jazz let out a sniff. “I can’t have you dying on me, now can I?” Steph caught her hand and threaded their fingers together and pressed a kiss to Jazz’s knuckles.
“No I suppose not. But that explanation to Bruce was not a fun one, you know. I still don’t know how you even got in the Batcave,” she said, furrowing her brow. Jazz just gave her girlfriend a secretive smile. Steph had been so unbelievably excited when Jazz had finally trusted her with her closely guarded secret. She knew that Jazz was meta but for the longest time, the redhead had been unable to bring herself to share more than that. With the anti-ecto acts still solidly in place, her existence was still illegal. It had taken her a lot to finally tell Steph the truth.
But when she had, Steph had just given her a deep kiss and promised she would overturn the acts herself if she had to. She’d do anything to make Jazz safe. And she had kept her word. Stephenie Brown, the Spoiler had marched right through the zeta tube to the Watchtower and demanded that the Justice League help overturn the laws.
It had been an ongoing legal battle for the last three months now but things were looking up. Danny and his totally not-a-sugar-daddy boyfriend had been excitedly keeping up with the news and updating Jazz constantly.
Steph laughed and shook her head. “This is why you and Cass aren’t allowed to be in the same room together anymore. You’re both so damn sneaky I can’t trust either of you,” she said with a huff.
The liminal just laughed and pressed a kiss to the corner of Stephenie’s mouth. “I have to keep you on your toes somehow, don’t I?”
“I suppose so,” the blond said and carefully scooted over on the bed and yanked Jazz onto the bed with her. Jazz smiled and adjusted herself on the bed until her girlfriend was resting her hand on the surgeon’s chest, their fingers interlocked as Jazz carefully maneuvered around her girlfriend until their legs were intertwined with one another and she held her close.
“How’s the pain? Scale of one to ten, and don’t try to act all high and mighty on me Stephenie Brown, you know better,” Jazz murmured, running her fingers up and down the vigilante’s side.
“Right now? Probably a six or a low seven if that makes sense?” She said, crinkling her nose. “I was a bad patient and waited until the pain was kicking in to take my medicine.”
Jazz laughed and shook her head in dismay. “Steph! You know better than anyone to not do that!”
The blond pouted, pushing her bottom lip out in a way that made her oh so kissable that Jazz couldn’t help herself and captured her lips with her own.  How could she not? Her girlfriend was right there, pushing her lips out in a pout, taunting her! It left her no choice.
“I love you,” she murmured, nipping at Steph’s bottom lip softly.
“I love you too Doctor Nightingale,” the vigilante whispered as Jazz started to pull away from her. Jazz smiled and brushed her own hair out of her face as she looked down at her girlfriend, she couldn’t get over the fact that this was her life, that she had somehow gotten so lucky to have Stephenie plop right in her lap that day at Gotham General just two years before. That they spent a year skirting around one another, with soft touches and flirty comments until Jazz had finally gotten the nerve to ask Steph out.
She had been terrified to do so! To date a coworker? One of the nurses in the very OR that Jazz was now a resident in? It felt taboo, forbidden, she had read the handbook at least thirty times to be absolutely certain that she wouldn’t get fired for dating Nurse Brown.
Once she had been sure, had covered all of her bases, she had fumbled through asking the vigilante on a date until Stephenie had finally taken pity on her and said yes. Of course, after that she had marched a laughing and blushing Steph all the way to HR just to let them know of their romantic relationship, just to be extra, extra sure that they wouldn’t get in trouble.  Steph had given her so much grief for it, but thankfully she thought that it was adorable as well.
“Thanks for taking care of your poor, pathetic patient,” Steph said, giving Jazz sad eyes.
“You mean my terrible patient who doesn’t listen to doctor’s orders and keeps getting out of bed to sneak out and patrol?” Jazz asked, arching an eyebrow. “It’s like you completely forget that I have super hearing.”
“They need me! And I’m bored, babe! I’m so, so, so bored in this bed! I wanna get out of this damn bed! I wanna spar, I wanna run around, I wanna do something!”
Jazz smiled and moved back to lie on her back, holding Steph close. “If you behave for me for two more days and stay in bed, I’ll go down on you,” she murmured and Steph blushed and started mumbling.
“Well, I definitely wouldn’t be opposed to something like that, and you know, they say that’s a good way to get some pent-up energy out,” she said, looking away from her girlfriend. Jazz just laughed and kissed her temple.
“In the meantime, my brother dropped off some video games and his video game console. We can play that new Zelda game if you want? He also left us his switch thingy so we can play that island game you’ve been talking about too,” Jazz said and Steph let out a laugh.
“Jazz, you’re my lifesaver. Please tell Danny thank you for me,” Steph said, hugging her girlfriend tight.
“Why don’t you just get your own video game stuff?” Jazz asked, glancing down at the woman.
“Because video games rot your brain and I refuse to have that in my house. Besides, I usually just go to Wayne Manor and mooch off of them anyway,” Steph said. “When will Danny want this back?”
Jazz snorted. “Don’t worry, his sugar daddy can get him another one,” she said with a shrug.
“Are you seriously calling Conner Kent his sugar daddy?” Steph asked with a cackle.
“He gets money from Lex Luthor like every month! Like a lot! Neither of them even has to work because of how big his allowance is. How is he not a sugar daddy?” Jazz exclaimed.
Steph just chuckled and shook her head. “Go get the switch,” she said between laughs.
Jazz climbed off the bed and saluted her girlfriend. “Anything for you, my love,” she said and skipped out of the room. Smiling to herself that she finally figured out a way to distract her girlfriend enough to keep her in bed and not sneak out to fight crime. She grabbed the bag of video games and consoles that Danny had dropped off through a portal and headed back to the room just as she found Steph struggling to put her pants to her Spoiler costume on.
“Stephenie Brown!”
Batfamily Fic Recs: Rare Dynamics Edition Pt2
go check out pt1 too if you like these <3
Misplaced By antrax
Words: 3,320 Chapters: 1/1 Rating: General Audience
Relationship: Duke Thomas & Damian Wayne
Summary:
After almost a year and a half, Duke still doesn't quite fit in with his new family and he can't figure out why. Or he can, but the answer is a tad complicated, and Damian is very, very blunt.
Review:
I like this fic a lot, in fandom you tend to see a romantized version of family, which isn't bad I love that, but this fanfic shows a realistic family while still feeling cozy and comfortable, like you really are in the kitchen, dressed down in pajamas, talking with your brother. Duke's feelings of liking Damian, but finding him annoying and still reassuring him is so sweet, and at the end I almost started crying by how sweet Damian is. I feel like these two would get along really well and this fic shows what I think their relationship would be like.
2. Hot Pocket Disaster by dandelioness666
Words: 4,063 Chapters: 1/1 Rating: Mature
Relationship: Duke Thomas & Jason Todd
Summary:
Jason slumps onto the couch. He pulls a knife out of his thigh-sheath and starts cutting off his undershirt, hissing when the tacky blood soaking through it tugs at his torn skin.
Steph collapses sideways across the cushions next to him and groans, “Literally, I am so bored right now. Does this safehouse have any games?”
---------------------
No need to read any other JTSG works to read this one! It just kind of thematically fits the vibe so I'm tossing it in with the rest. :)
Review:
I love fanfics between these two, there is so much potential for them to be close and so many possibilities for them. The way Jason trusts Duke feels so genuine and realistic considering their relationship, I also enjoyed the domestic nature of the beginning of the fic with the four of them in Dick's safehouse and the Doctor Who joke was pretty funny ngl.
3. Kryptonite By glitter_in_my_eyes
Words: 2,252 Chapters: 1/1 Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Relationship: Cassandra Cain & Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain & Timothy Drake, Cassandra Cain & Dick Grayson
Summary:
The one where Cass finds out she has a food allergy - the hard way...
Review:
It's a good example of what Cassandra's early dynamic would be with Dick and Tim, and it shows just how much Barbara cares for her which is always nice to see considering how close they are in the comics. Also the little reminiscence of her mindset from being with her dad in the way she thinks was a good addition.
people on my dash are already going on about how it would be "in character" for tim to cheat on bernard with kon... we got a cute timkon moment but At What Cost
oh nooooooo.........
i am once again begging people to acknowledge that the last time Tim actually cheated on a partner was when he was like 14 around 1996 (so literally 20+ years ago) with Jubilee during the DC vs Marvel crossover. anything after that point really wasn't Tim cheating for one of several reasons.
[more ranting about this under the cut, mostly me repeating things i've said before about this subject]
right. so. a short list of reasons anything post-DC vs Marvel & DC/Marvel: All Access wasn't actually Tim cheating:
The characters were not in an actually established relationship at the time- this is like the stuff during Red Robin era where Tim had moments with Tam and Lynx in a similar timeframe. Because yes Tim was in the early stages of getting with Tam then, but they definitely did not get to a 'we are exclusively together now' point during the book! She was absolutely his main love interest, and if the book hadn't ended bc of the New 52 they probably would have made up from their fight towards the end and gotten more formally together... but we didn't actually get there. Totally fine to think he handled those situations with each girl poorly- he definitely did imo- but it wasn't cheating.
There was messed up timing between books when Tim's solo changed writers- stuff with Zo and Cassie slightly overlapped due to this... but also not even as much as people seem to think. [I made a whole timeline about this a while ago, yellow is Teen Titans/Cassie and pink is Robin/Zo]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most panels of 'Tim kissing another girl while he was dating x!!' being shown as proof of him cheating are taken entirely out of context and the girl kissed Tim without his consent (at least 9 unique women that I could name off the top of my head have kissed Tim without his consent. several of them do become his love interests but they were not together at the time these kisses happened). Especially relevant info imo is that any and all cheating happened while he was dating Ariana (he kissed Steph early in his solo while dating Ari, and then also the earlier mentioned thing with Jubilee. Those are the instances of cheating), he never cheated on Steph (she mistakenly thinks he's cheating on her twice, with Star and then Darla, but he wasn't actually).
Then also for that messy thing in the New 52 with Cassie and Kiran on the boat the same night.... first of all New 52 Tim is barely Tim, but even so he wasn't dating either of them, like nothing was formal there. If anything the bigger problem is he was the person Kiran cheated on Bart with... but that's not to mention uhhhh Tim was literally under Trigon's influence for ALL of that.
Soooo yeah! Having modern day Tim actually cheat on Bernard is not something I think would be in character at all.
What I do think could be in character in regards to Timkon stuff at this moment (obviously all of this is unlikely, but just in terms of 'hypothetical situation') would be Tim coming to the realization of 'wait... did I like Kon... do I still like Kon?' and then having internal struggle over what to do with that information since he also likes and is dating Bernard. Tim is the kind of person to end up with feelings for more than one person at the same time, leaving him feeling torn between them. I think there's been plenty of time in his books devoted to that sort of thing over the years.
But him just deciding to cheat on the person he's in a committed relationship with isn't even really what happened in the canon instances of him cheating- the time he kissed Steph was because he'd almost died and she was the person there to save him, it was a 'holy fuck im ALIVE' heat of the moment thing... and then with Jubilee it was him stranded in the Marvel Universe as they were all told they needed to fight for the survival of their worlds and mostly a 'hey I don't know if i'm gonna survive or ever see my friends and family again but this girl is into me so lets make the most of it' situation that he promptly no longer wanted to be part of once he was back on his own world and the danger was gone. I think the context behind those two situations matters a lot when discussing Tim and the idea of cheating/how in character it is for him, but lots of people love to just gloss over it.
Like, if someone was more specifically saying "Tim and Kon ending up in a super dangerous 'one of them almost dies' situation and having a heat of the moment kiss" would be in character, I at least definitely get where that's coming from based on past canon. But saying it'd be in character for Tim to just choose to cheat on Bernard with Kon under normal circumstances? No way, man.
Any head cannons for what type of monster/cryptid Duke and Stephanie would be? I don't really see a lot of them in cryptid batfam AUs. Plus any other member of the batfam you'd like to add!
I won’t do major head cannons for everyone else but I will list them out!
Duke Thomas:
There isn’t really a word for what Duke is but the closest comparison is the Michigan Dogman. He’s not a werewolf; his transformations aren’t tied to the moon or cycles or anything like that. When he transforms it’s not bloody or violent, it’s more like his body is just slowly filling out. Like a balloon that only just realized it was half filled with air. Compared to the rest of the Bats he feels a little lack luster and doesn’t bring up his abilities much, leading to the other sometimes forgetting he can transform at all.
Because he’s not a werewolf, the common ways to kill a werewolf don’t work on him. Silver isn’t a big deal, unless their bullets because bullets can kill Duke no issue. That’s just because they’re bullets. Duke is torn between thinking it’s funny and thinking it’s annoying that everyone seems to forget he’s not a werewolf but he ignores it.
It’s a long time before he feels comfortable transforming in front of everyone else. Things are always less dramatic with Duke and he feels a little guilty that everyone else has to suffer. The thought quickly leaves his mind as they start to prank him and then he’s over it. The first time he transforms in the cave it brings a lot of stares, the others knowing that he can but having never seen it firsthand. It’s a huge show of trust and it’s treated as such.
Stephanie Brown:
Stephanie would be a banshee. She has a habit of being very loud and very firm about what’s right and wrong. She’s not the only banshee running around Gotham (Blank Canary hint hint) but she’s rare enough that people don’t always know what she is. It makes it easier to blend it and be ‘human’ but she can get sick of it.
Her abilities are very powerful and it causes a lot of tension between her and Bruce. He firmly believes that people should have control of their powers all the time but it’s hard for Stephanie, especially because her powers are fueled by her emotions. It’s one of the reasons that she doesn’t last long as Robin; her emotions are her strength but they aren’t Batman’s. They get along better now that Steph is doing her own thing but it’s still a sore spot.
She’s only completely lost control of her powers once, becoming the horror stories that most people think of when they hear banshee. She lost all physical form and was constantly howling, running around downtown and causing issues. It wasn’t her fault (a villain of the week got lucky) but it takes most of the other Bats to get her under control. She’s really embarrassed about it after but Tim and Cass are very impressed. They can tell she cares because she holds back. Even if they’re going to need a hearing test after that.
Alfred: Drider
Bruce: Vampire
Dick: Incubus (R.I.P Boy)
Jason: Werewolf
Tim: Dream Demon (Sheep)
Damian: Half Vampire
Barbra: Harpy
Cass: Shadow Creature
Heyy it's yj anon
With my midterms officially over, I can finally make time to read again. Thank you for the help with No Man's Land; I'm not well-versed with storylines prior to the 2010s unless regarding specific characters...but I'm working on it.
I initially started off as a Damian fan and only read stories that pertained to him and Talia (it's been rough). I read Red Robin on a whim after seeing some of my Twitter mutuals speak so highly of the series, and I absolutely loved the storyline (minus the last few issues; I also hate how Tam was treated. It was fairly iffy throughout the run, but it was further emphasized in the final issues; there is so much to say about the entire mess that was love interests, but that's for another day). The art style is nice as well, I understand why people are so fond of Tim during that era. Though I figured with no prior knowledge of Tim's character, it was a rough place to begin understanding his characterization. So, I started reading some of his older material, and it's been very interesting!!! I just started Robin 93, but Young Justice has taken up a majority of my attention. The silliness of the first issue with dumb gags about nuns in a station wagon filled with explosives, Tornado finding the trio so annoying it brought forth whatever humanity was left in him...I just couldn't stop scrolling. Safe to say, I am fairly invested in Tim (and Bart, he's just so younger-cousin-coded it's endearing), I plan to go back and read his Robin run (along with Impulse) once winter break allows me the time to properly read and analyze.
I haven't been following you long, so I'm unsure if you've answered this question prior, but what initially got you into Tim's character? (that wording sounds a little off, sorry.) But besides that, I hope you're doing okay and that midterms have been going well! Midterms beat me to a pulp, so I hope all is good on your end lolol
oh man i’m sorry this is so late! i had wanted to get around to answering this when you sent it but i got distracted. glad to hear your midterms are finally over! mine are too, thankfully T_T and of course! happy to help!
red robin was an interesting run… tim is Quite Annoying there and his relationship with tam (and um. women in general there) was a bit Eh. i used to like it but i think that was just the pretty art influencing me LMAO by now it’s just Meh especially because of the way he treats tam and steph and just generally acts. but again you are right that it is a Rough Place for his character. though i would also say that were it not for the grief and general dramatics of the situation, it’s probably reasonably honest? for his character i mean but that’s just me hehe. you’ll see some hints of it in robin 1993 i think but young justice 1998 really helps soften some of it just because it is a more light-hearted one! it’s definitely a lot of fun! i need to pick up my reading for it again tbh but i’m torn between that and reading for diana.. alas
oooh what got me into tim… initially i didn’t like him! i was into jason when i first got into dc and my exposure to tim wasn’t great… i got more accustomed to him through fics but it’s always been a bit grudging on my end LMAO, more of like a ‘i can fix him’ type of situation or at least one where his flaws—because he has Many—are highlighted and confronted. or sometimes assumed to have been taken care of, which is an assumption i welcome when it comes to my own fics. that is a large part of why i like him actually—that he has sooooo many issues. i’m veryyy critical of him HAHA it’s kind of why i’m turning away from whump fics regarding him, just because i’m like… he is not an angel compared to the others LMAOOOO so… yeah. it’s reluctant. and honestly these days </3 he annoys me LMAOOOOOOO it’s weird i know but. he’s like a chew toy to me
ANYWAY thank you sm for this ask!!! hope you’re doing well!! take care of yourself!!!
when you lay me down you’ll only bury bones, ch 1
lord i know that i'm a weathered stone
{ AO3 }
TW: mentions of drowning & torture
He’s been hanging here for almost twenty hours now, just watching them hurt her. If it weren’t for the gag in his mouth, he’d be biting and taunting, anything to get them to focus on anything but Cass, but he can’t work the damn rag out. She hangs just across the room from him, every once in a while being dragged out of sight where he can only rely on the splashing and gurgling to tell him that they’re trying to break her by drowning her in the rotting bathtub off the living room, but she always comes back to that hook. And he can’t see her eyes, but he can feel her gaze on him the whole time.
It’s killing him.
All Jason can do is hang there. When they first started cutting into her, he tried to rip his chains from the hook. It stopped them for a second, diverted their attention for just a moment, but that moment gave Cass the opportunity to wrap her legs around the neck of one of the men. He’d turned purple by the time they got her to release him, and they haven’t turned his way since.
He’s ashamed to admit, even to himself, that he’s not sure he could have lasted this long if they were doing to him what’s been done unto her. Jason knows that Cass is strong, enough to rival Bruce in terms of withstanding pain, but he’s never seen any torture quite as vicious as this. Her suit is torn to shreds, all of the skin that should have been revealed is coated in blood and gashes. They started branding her at about hour thirteen, but her reaction to the pain wasn’t as great as they had hoped. Small chunks of flesh had been carved out and scattered on the floor around them. Bamboo splinters were hammered under her nails. The parts of her face that he can see are mottled black and purple bruises, split skin, and crusted in dried blood.
Every time he thinks she’s finally going to black out, her head jerks up to look at him, and her energy is renewed. Jason can’t make any sense of it.
The same man who sliced the bat symbol in between her shoulder blades steps away for a moment, only to return with a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire. Jason is screaming again, but it’s never stopped them before. He gets two hits in to her ribs when the door to the apartment comes down, immediately followed by the shattering of the two windows.
Red Robin locks straight on to him, making quick work of his shackles before Jason gets dumped to the ground. His arms are on fire and he can’t feel his legs, but he’s up in an instant, his gag is gone and he’s sprinting over to where Nightwing is trying to lower Cass as carefully as possible. He can hear Robin and Batman fighting their captors only a few feet away, but he couldn’t give a shit about them right now. For as small and light as she is, all three of them silently insist on helping to lay her down.
For a moment, there’s no sound, nobody else around them, just Jason and the little sister he failed to keep safe lying way too still on the grimey floor in front of him. Out of the corner of his eye, a hand moves to grab her, and Jason lashes out to stop it.
Before he can reach it, two arms wrap around his chest and he’s pulled against something solid. He acts before he can think, trying to flip whoever’s trying to restrain him off of his back. He shoots up, running them both backwards until they both ram into the wall. The arms loosen for a moment, and Jason looks back to where Cass was before realizing that she’s gone. He took his eyes off of her for a second and now she’s gone. A scream rips from his throat just as the arms tighten around his frame again, the sound of his name pulling his focus back to the situation at hand.
“Hood, B has her,” Nightwing soothes against his ear. “He’s taking Black Bat to the Batmobile. We’re taking her back to the cave. She’s safe, I swear. Leslie and Alfred and Steph are already there prepping the MedBay. I need to know, are you hurt?”
That question sends him reeling.
“The fuck– A-am I hu– Why the fuck would you– Cassie–”
“Hey!” He shouts, tightening his hold for just a second to get him to shut up. “I don’t have her right now, I have you. We can argue over this for as long as you want, or you can tell me your injuries so we can get back to the Cave and be with her. ‘S up to you.”
That clears his head for a moment. Dick is supposed to ask these questions, they all were trained to. Jason doesn’t look beat up, but Dick couldn’t know if they were drugging him or screwing with his mind somehow. “Just strained my arms. She never let them near me, ‘Wing,” is all he mutters.
Dick hums, a deep rumble that Jason can feel against his back, before the arms around his torso disappear entirely, then reappear to hoist him up. “Good, let’s go.”
They rip through Gotham into Bristol, roaring through the Cave entrance just in time to watch as Steph hops onto Cass’ gurney and begins chest compressions. Jason and Dick leap off the bike, letting it crash to the ground and sprint over to the scene.
“–doing great, Steph, keep going. Alfred, get me a milligram of adrenaline and prep the IV, Bruce I need shears to get the rest of her suit off. I need everyone else to stay the hell out of my way, let’s move,” Leslie barks, pulling Cass as Bruce pushes into the MedBay.
Time is moving both far too slowly and faster than he can keep up with. Jason moves to follow on instinct, because there’s no way in hell she’s about to die just after they’ve been saved, but Tim steps in his way, stopping him with a hand on his chest. “You heard her, Jay. We go in there, any of us, and we’re just standing in the way of them saving her.”
“Tim, she… You don’t know what they did to her, they don’t know, I have to–”
“You have to sit down, Jason. You’re barely standing, the adrenaline is gonna burn out any second and I, for one, am not carrying your sorry ass to rest somewhere comfortably. Just… take a breath, man. From this point on, we’re kind of obsolete. She’s in the best hands we’ve got.”
For the first time in… longer than he cares to admit, Jason takes a breath and lets it go. Tim’s right, as much as it turns his stomach. He spent the last day being forced to do nothing. Now that he’s free, it’s still the only thing he can do. Shaking hands clench into fists before he forces them back open, reluctantly shuffling over to sit at the meeting table in the middle of the cave.
His brothers follow silently, and as they all sit around him, Jason finally takes in their ragged forms for the first time. Dick is weary, still trying to calm himself down from the anxiety he must have been running off of this whole time. Tim is clearly still wired, but Jason knows that he’s just trying to occupy his mind instead of thinking about Cass. Those two are thicker than thieves on even their worst days, but that’s what being Batgirl and Robin will do to a pair. His eyes slide to Damian, and something is definitely… off.
“What’s up with you, pipsqueak? You’re quiet for someone who should be boasting about saving the day or calling us weaklings or imbeciles or whatever,” Jason comments.
Damian doesn’t even twitch at the taunt, which alerts Dick and Tim as well. Damian’s eyes are far off for a moment before refocusing and meeting Jason’s eyes. A split second later, he breaks contact to stare at his folded hands. “Cain was in the back of the Batmobile with Brown and I, and she kept asking… It was strange because… Clearly she’d suffered some kind of hallucination, because…”
“Christ, kid, spit it out,” Jason hisses after a moment of silence.
The kid glares at him, but Jason doesn’t see the usual fire behind the look. It only causes more worry to bubble up in his gut. “She kept asking if I was okay. I don’t understand why she would ask such a thing, let alone while she was collapsing her own lung. Cain was– she was wheezing and coughing and she kept asking, ‘Is Robin safe?’ I kept telling her that I was clearly uninjured, but she continued to ask. When we got her on the gurney here, Brown whispered something to her and that’s when she… Why would she ask such a thing if she wasn’t worse than they’re telling us?”
The three elder brothers look to each other, confusion plain on all of their faces. Blood loss could have been a factor, or the insane amount of trauma done to her body finally getting to her. But before any of them are able to voice theories, a voice comes from behind them.
“She wasn’t talking about you, Damian,” Stephanie says, scrubbing her hands with a bloodstained rag. Next to her is Barbara, a resolute look on her face.
Jason shoots to his feet at the sigh of her, even though the room spins as he does so. “Jesus, Steph. Is she–”
“Her heart’s beating,” she cuts him off. “She’s getting blood and fluids and they’re doing all the damage control they can right now. But she wasn’t delusional, Dames. Cass wasn’t talking about you.”
Falling back to his chair, Jason asks, “What’s that mean, Blondie? There’s no other Robin.”
It’s Barbara who answers this time, “Batgirl’s job is to protect Robin.”
The statement is still too vague according to Dick, who prods, “Babs, Cassie isn’t Batgirl anymore, and Jay hasn’t been Robin in years. He wasn’t even her Robin. That makes zero sense.”
Steph shakes her head. “Batgirl protects Robin. It’s the first thing Bruce tells us when we put on that suit. You don’t just lose that kind of responsibility when the name gets passed down, Dick.”
“S’that why you took that bullet for Dick a few months ago?” Tim wonders aloud, and Jason can see him beginning to connect the dots in that brain of his. Steph just glances at Dick before focusing on her hands.
“She shouldn’t have done that for me,” Jason murmurs. “I can’t say I’m stronger than her, because that would be a goddamned lie, but I could have taken some of that from her. Cassie shouldn’t have shouldered that alone.”
“It’s not about whether we think you guys can take it or not,” Barbara says. “We know you’re tough. Cass knows that better than any of us. She knows exactly how much any of us can handle, but you know her. She gets the job done better than any of us. She protected you from harm because she’s Batgirl, but she saved you from all of it because she loves you, Jason. She can see everything about a person. She’s too empathetic for her own good, and she was never taught how to turn it off. Cass kept you from getting hurt because it would have hurt her even more than any of those physical blows she took, and you know it.”
The cave is silent for a moment after she finishes speaking. Jason knows his brothers are thinking about everything they’ve just heard and rewinding their memories to make it all make sense.
It has to sink in for Jason that it wasn’t just some misplaced sense of duty, but it was because Cass gave too much of a shit about him to let him get hurt. He wants to scream at her, shake her shoulders and shout I’m not worth it, but deep down he knows she’d argue otherwise. Cass decides who’s worth her love the moment she lays eyes on them, and there’s no changing her mind once she’s made it.
The boys all take a look at each other before Dick pipes up, “What’s it gonna take for you three to never do something like this ever again?”
Steph snorts and rolls her eyes, “You’ll need to stop putting yourselves into insane danger all the time.”
The tension breaks for just this moment, all of them knowing that’s a promise they’ll never be able to keep.
“You’ve got a deal, Blondie,” Jason lies.
If it’s in a Batgirl’s nature to protect Robin, it’s in a Robin’s nature to lie.
Hi!! I saw your AU post and it sounds great!!!
I’d love to know more, especially about character dynamics? You said you had a little.
Also does Cass ever meet Tim or Jason before they enter the hero/crime lord scene through Steph? (Or otherwise?)
fdnjsafl thank you for asking!!! i have. a lot.
so once steph picks of the mantle of robin dick finds out and he's Not Pleased. but he doesn't blame her because she's like fourteen years old and dick is 20 and has started to reflect on like. whether him becoming robin was actually a good thing or not. so he's having complicated emotions about the whole thing but he's not necessarily feeling replaced. probably helps that she isn't a boy that looks uncomfortably similar to him.
he's kinda sorta repaired his relationship with bruce in the intervening robinless years but things are still awkward and this doesn't help. but eventually (after teaming up with steph to save bruce probably) he's like okay this is gonna happen whether i'm here or not so he becomes an additional mentor figure to her, both in vigilante and civilian life.
eventually dick meets jason and tim and jason is like. what the FUCK is this grown adult man doing hanging around my baby sister. absolutely hates his guts. thinks he's a total creep.
tim, on the other hand, knows he's nightwing and just like gloms onto him with a kind of awkward hero worship thing. but nobody knows he knows about their secret identities so everyone is just like "??? why are you so obsessed with him" and dick is like. there's something wrong with this kid. finds him endearing though.
this causes tension between tim and jason. even more so after tim reveals he knows batman's identity (to steph and bruce and dick) in order to get batman to save his parents, and then when that fails and his mom is dead and his dad is in a coma, he gets taken in by bruce wayne. this is post-cass though.
as for cass, yes she does meet jason and tim! her arc is based around her trying to heal from her past as essentially a living weapon.
initially bruce is like. kind of scared of her and keeping her in the cave and not sure what to do with her since he's torn between "she's just a kid" and "she's incredibly dangerous"
steph is like. she's a teenage girl. grow the fuck up. and sneaks her out to do normal people shit. eventually this includes meeting jason and tim.
jason can tell that there's something Up with cassandra but he doesn't know what, and as far as he knows they met through dick so that doesn't help their whole thing. but he also can tell she's kinda scared of him and he doesn't like that so he tries to be good to her and show her that he's a safe person.
cass can tell that jason's got a lot of anger in him and she isn't sure where that anger is going to go. she's afraid it might be directed at her, and she feels she would not be allowed to defend herself. but at the same time she can tell he cares an awful lot about steph and tim so she has mixed feelings.
tim saw when she first met batman and that she beat him in a fight so he's a little freaked out by her at first. batman is still more of a mythical figure than a real person to him, so anyone that can beat batman is scary.
cass can tell that tim's unsettled by her and she honestly finds it kind of comforting. she's like yes this guy gets it! she feels like she's pretending to be a person when she doesn't fit into the world like other people do, and while she really likes steph for being kind to her, she isn't sure she's capable of being what steph would like her to be.
tim warms up to her as she starts to heal (helped by alfred and steph bullying bruce into letting her stay in the house, dammit) and they become close
anyway! that's like. a good chunk of the au, i hope you found it interesting! thanks again for asking :)
Chandelier
Tumblr media
This is my first Dickinette fic and song fic.
This started off as a funny idea form @boldlyanxious followed by a silly conversation that lead to creating this.
I wanted to gift this to @boldlyanxious because without her this wouldn't exist. Not only did she give me the idea but listened to me talk about it for the last week and found all my spelling mistakes.  💝
The song is Chandelier by Sia
Warning : some sexual references
Party girls don’t get hurt
Can’t feel anything, when will I learn?
I push it down, push it down.
Marinette struggled to open her eyes. Everything was too bright and the noise from the busy street down below seemed ten times louder than normal. She rolled over and yelped as she fell onto the floor. This wasn’t her bedroom. This wasn’t even her apartment. Where the hell was she?
“Oh, look sleeping beauty is finally awake.” Steph snickered. “Coffee?”
Marinette rubbed her face then stood up and stretched. “Do you even have to ask?” She felt like she’d been hit by a truck. Every muscle protested as she walked over to her blonde friends.
“Never thought I’d see the day that miss goody two shoes partied harder than me.” Chloe said pulling the chair out for Marinette and putting a plate of pancakes on the table.
“Ease up on her babe. If anyone deserves to let her hair down, it’s Mari and you know it.”
Steph grabbed her girlfriend’s hand and pulled her down for a kiss.
“I’ve gotta go. I have a thing.” Marinette looked away from the girls and downed her coffee before standing up.
“Hey, you don’t have to run off. There’s no judgment here.” Steph grabbed her hand. “It’s been a year since you defeated your enemy. Six months since you broke up with Adrien. This is the first time in your life you’ve been able to actually let go.”
Marinette felt the but coming on and she had to force herself not to run out the door. She wasn’t used to letting her emotions run wild and it had been her downfall with Adrien. His carefree attitude drove her crazy in the end, but she hadn’t been able to detach herself from the troubled relationship. Instead, she’d pushed him away till he couldn’t take it anymore.
She missed him but in the same breath she didn’t. Emotions were not her strong point, so she’d decided to finally let go. Maybe she’d taken it a step to fare though. She worked on her commissions during the day and partied most nights.
A few hours’ sleep if that, then repeat.
Her friends were starting to worry but they were torn between letting her finally live and making her slow down before she did something she regrated. The Kwami seemed divide as well. Half of them were happy she was finally living like a normal 20 something year old and the other half were on her case about responsibilities.
“Thanks for not letting me go home with that guy.” She couldn’t remember his name and she didn’t care to be honest. “I’ve got a meeting and commissions to get through today, so I have to go.” She gave Steph’s hand a gentle squeeze before letting go and smiled at the girls.
“Get some rest too M but don’t forget we have the gala tonight.” Steph called out as she grabbed her bag and headed for the door. “We’ll pick you up at 7pm.”
“Sure, I’ll see you guys later.”
One, two, three, one, two, three
One, two, three, one, two, three
One, two, three, one, two, three
Throw ‘em back ‘til I lose count.
The masquerade gala was as expected. Rich people flirting their wealth around like it was a competition. Everyone loved the dark blue dress and mask she wore. One of her many creations she hand crafted in hopes to get her name out there. So far, the sleepless nights were paying off and she’d nearly run out of business cards.
The woman wanted to look like her and the old men didn’t seem to know how to keep their hands off of her, even with their wives standing right there. The wives seemed preoccupied, to distracted by all the young bachelors running around anyway. Marinette was left wondering if the masks had made people forget their inhibitions.
After two hours of Steph dragging her around to different groups of people, she excused herself and headed for the bar. She ignored the questioning look the bartender threw her when she ordered three tequila shots and a vodka and lemonade.
She’d already downed the first two shots before she heard the conversation down the other end of the bar.
“Tt, Father has obviously forgotten Dick’s obsession with chandeliers.” The shorter of the three said.
“It’s like he’s asking for trouble so how do we get Dickie bird to do his thing.” The tallest this time, who was ruggedly handsome with a white streak in the front of his dark messy hair.
“You both know B is going to be pissed if one of us ruins this event. That said Dick totally set me up last time so as long as it doesn’t get back to me, I’m in.” The third guy was dressed in an expensive suit and looked the part except for his shoes. Black and white converse of all things gave away the fact he’d probably been forced to attend.
Marinette downed her last shot and turned to the men. “And here I was thinking this was going to be a boring night.” She smiled wickedly at them. “I must say I’m intrigued. Is there some type of entertainment I don’t know about?”
The tallest of the three smiled at her and walked over. He leaned on the bar next to her and she couldn’t help but notice how his muscles flexed under the fabric of his suit. “If it’s entertainment you’re after doll I’ll be happy to help you out.”
“Tt, as subtle as a freight train as always Todd.”
“Shut it, Demon spawn.”
“Hi, I’m Tim.” The guy in the converse extended his hand passed his tall friend. Marinette took it and smiled warmly at him. “And these are my brothers Jason and Damian. Now if you’re finished embarrassing yourself Jay, we’ve got about two minutes before he makes his way over here. $100 for whoever can talk him into it.”
“Who and into what?” Marinette asked looking between the three brothers.
They all looked at each other then back to her. “Our brother Dick use to be in a circus and let’s just say he has a thing for hanging off chandeliers.” Tim answered while Jason snickered, Damian just looked annoyed.
“So, you’re trying to get him to what exactly?” She asked trying to keep the grin off her face. Well, this wasn’t what she was expecting at a gala. She was sure the host Bruce Wayne would have all of them kicked out for this and banned from the social events in Gotham for life. But Marinette was intrigued and always up for chaos.
“See the row of chandeliers little lady.” Jason pointed at the ceiling and Marinette noticed the rows of small gold chandeliers hanging in-between the garlands of flowers. There was a large chandelier in the middle of the room that looked to be a permanent fixture. The smaller ones started in each corner of the room then met the larger one in the middle. It made a decorative X across the ceiling. “We want to see if our brother Dick can make it across the room.”
Marinette did some rough calculations in her head. Wouldn’t be the same without her yoyo but with any type of circus or parkour training the distance was doable. “If he has any type of skill that shouldn’t be impossible.”
“And you know this how?” Damian asked with his calculating green eyes studying her masked face.
She just shrugged. “How about if I can talk him into it all three of you pay up? So that would be $300.” She smiled at their shocked faces.
Jason recovered first. “Tell you what doll, if you can get him to race you across the chandeliers, I’ll make it $500 if you win?”
Marinette thought about it for a moment then downed the rest of her drink and extended her hand. “Deal.”
I’m going to swing from the chandelier
From the chandelier
I’m going to live like tomorrow doesn’t exist
Doesn’t exist.
It was easier that Marinette expected. After the three brothers left her at the bar it didn’t take Dick long to join her.
“Are you lost ma’am? Because heaven is a long way from here.”
Marinette turned and looked up into a pair of blue eyes surrounded by a dark blue mask. He was gorgeous, with a carefree smile on his face. “Does that ever work monsieur?” She asked trying not to laugh.
“I don’t know yet, but do you have a name, or can I call you mine?” His smile grew impossibly big, and he reminded her of an over excited golden retriever except with dark hair.
“If you stop with the cheese pick-up lines you can join me.” Marinette said giving him a dazzling smile.
She watched as he swallowed and seemed to falter with his comeback. He nodded and sat down next to her and cleared his throat. “Can I get you a drink?”
“Sure.” She looked at the bartender and smiled. “Same as before please.” The bartender studied her for a moment then poured her drinks.
“I’ll have what the ladies having, thanks.” Dick said without looking away from her eyes.
“I’m Richard but everyone calls me Dick.” He held his hand out to her.
Smiling she took his hand and giggled when he kissed it instead of shaking it. “I’m Marinette.”
“Beautiful just like its owner.” He said still holding her hand.
“How did you get Dick from Richard?” Marinette asked trying not to focus on the warmth from his hand.
“It’s kind of a long story but my mother use to call me that so after she died, I couldn’t bring myself to change it.” He looked away for the fist time since sitting next to her.
“Oh, I’m so sorry. I…”
“It’s ok. It was a long time ago.” He finally noticed the line of drinks in front of them. He looked back up at her and raised an eyebrow.
An hour passed with more tequila than planned. By the end of the hour Marinette was licking salt from his hand and vice versa. It wasn’t till she caught Jason looking at her from across the bar that she remembered her task.
Marinette was thankful it wasn’t as crowded as before but either way she wasn’t one to back down. “So, I heard from a little birdy that you have a thing for chandeliers?” Marinette playfully asked running her finger down his defined jaw.
He looked down at her lust clearly visible in his eyes. “Wha, who told you that?”
“I have a proposition for you.” She grabbed his tie and pulled him down till he was only an inch from her red lips.
“You could probably ask me anything right about now and I’d agree to it beautiful.” He breathed against her lips using all his will power not to kiss her.
She bit her lip and giggled when he seemed to blue screen at the action. “A race.”
Dick scrunched his eyebrows together and stared at her, confusion clear on his face. “Like a running race?”
“No silly. Up there.” She pointed up to the chandeliers.
“From the chandeliers? You want to race me, up there?” The amusement was clear on his face and mischief danced in his blue eyes.
“Don’t be too sure of yourself hot stuff.” She breathed against his lips then let go of his tie.
“And if I win, what do I get?” He asked tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear, letting his finger brush against her cheek.
“My number.” She bopped his nose and straightened up.
“Ok, but first I have to ask have you done anything like this before? Because the one in the middle is really high and I don’t want you to get hurt.”
“You could say that. I’ve been flying since I was twelve.” She smiled brightly at him and giggled at the way he was staring stary eyed at her.
Dick cleared his throat and shook his head. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t falling for this woman already and if she wasn’t lying about this, he may just have to propose to her. But first he had a race to win.
“You sound too good to be true Mars bar, you’re on.” He shook her hand as he was checking out the first chandelier. It was lower than the rest and they seemed to get higher as they got closer to the middle one. He should be able to reach the first one from a chair, but he wasn’t sure how Marinette was going to reach.
“How are you going to get up to the first one?” He asked.
“Oh I have my ways, you just worry about yourself.” She gave him a wicked grin then kissed him on the cheek. “You’ll know when to start.”
I’m gonna fly like a bird through the night
Feel my tears as they dry.
But I’m holding on for dear life
Won’t look down, won’t open my eyes
Marinette walked over to Jason. “Care to give me a hand.” She asked as she slipped her hand into his and pulled him behind her.
“Baby you can have whatever body part you want.” He said following her blindly.
She snickered as she approached the corner. Once under the chandelier she looked down at her full skirt. Her dress was made up out of two parts and she couldn’t have planned her outfit better if she tried. The top was a bodysuit that sat low on her back. The skirt sat perfectly against the bodysuit and gave the impression that it was all one piece.
Marinette reached down and undid her heals. She stepped out of them and turned to Jason who was now a whole head and a half taller than her. “We need something so Dick knows when to start.”
“On it.” Jason grabbed his phone out of his pocket and sent a message to someone. “Just let me know when you’re ready.”
She turned back around. “Can you unzip me?”
“I’m completely down for PDA sweetheart, but shouldn’t we take this somewhere a little more private.”
“It’s a skirt Jason. I can’t win in this.” She looked over her shoulder at him and smiled at his flustered face. Why did they have to be brothers, she would happily take them both home.
“Yeah, no I knew that. I was just messin with you.” He rubbed the back of his neck before reaching for her zipper. He ran his finger down her spine and snickered when she shivered.
Marinette stepped out of her velvet skirt that pooled at her feet. She turned back around to Jason and caught him checking out what her full skirt was hiding. “Eyes up here buddy.”
“Sorry, can’t blame a guy though. Nice ass...”
“Hey.” Marinette hit his shoulder with her clutch.
“I was giving you a complement and if you’d let me finish, I would have said assets.” He winked at her.
“I’m not sure if you’re trying to put me off my game or you’re just really bad at flirting.”
“Hey! Now who’s being rude.”
Marinette ignored his pout, as cute as it was, she had bet to win. “Tell your person one minute.”
Jason nodded and sent the message. “I’m guessing you need me to get you up there?” He said pointing at the chandelier over their heads.
“Not just a pretty face then.” She smiled at him as she stepped onto his linked hands.
The music stopped for a moment and then the song ‘The Greatest Show’ started to play louder than the music before.
Marinette looked at Jason and nodded. The grin he gave her was nothing but wicked as he sent her flying up into the air.
Hugh Jackman could be heard singing ‘Ladies and gents, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for’ as she grabbed onto the first chandelier. Trust these brothers to be over the top in their music taste as well.
Marinette heard the crowd below ‘aww’ as she swung on the chandelier. To them they probably just thought this was all part of the entertainment.
As soon as her hands closed over what should have been metal, she knew she was in trouble. The chandeliers were made from bloody chocolate. She’d just got up enough momentum to swing to the next one as she felt it start to crumble.
It was too late to back out now. All she could do was move as fast as she could till she got to the actual chandelier in the middle. She had no idea how Dick was going or if he’d fallen yet.
Her hands were slippery from the damn edible lighting and maybe all those shots weren’t the best idea. It was the last one before she could rest and wipe her hands for a second on the real chandelier.
She let go but she hadn’t gotten up enough momentum. Her hands weren’t high enough to grab the chandelier and all she could think was ‘this is going to suck’. Closing her eyes and accepting her fate she felt hands grab her wrists before she fell any further.
Keep my glass full until morning light
‘Cause I’m just holding on for tonight
Help me, I’m holding on for dear life
Won’t look down, won’t open my eyes
“I didn’t know angels flew this low.”
Marinette looked up at a smiling Dick who was hanging upside down from the chandelier. His eyes were sparkling, and, in that moment, she decided she needed to know this man. Cheesy pick-up lines and all. “What can I say. Maybe I’m falling for you.” She breathed out smiling up at him.”
“Was that, was that a pickup line? Be still my beating heart.”
“Ok Romeo, don’t leave me hanging.”
“Oh and she’s punny too.”
“No, no I didn’t mean too. Argh can we get this over with before security is called.”
“I wouldn’t worry about that.”
“Really? We’re hanging from a chandelier in Bruce Wayne’s Mansion what gives you that idea.”
“Manor.”
“What?”
“It’s a Manor and well, he’s kinda my dad.”
“What the hell Dick? And what does kinda mean?”
“How bout we finish what we started and then I can explain over drinks?”
“Sure, splendid, super.” Marinette made the mistake of looking down and was sure she could pick out Bruce Wayne. He’d be the one shaking his head while pinching the bridge of his nose, his mask long forgotten on a table nearby.
“I have an idea.” Dick smiled down at her.
“I don’t know you well enough to know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.”
“Do you think you can stand up here if I swing you up?” He was still smiling like a kid on Christmas morning and God was he beautiful.
Marinette looked from Dick to the chandelier and did a quick calculation in her head. “Sure.”
This wasn’t even the most ridiculous thing she’d ever done but all those other times she’d been Ladybug and had the excuse of fighting an akuma.
Dick started to swing the chandelier and Marinette quickly caught on that she could help if she swung her body in the opposite direction.
“Ok on the count of three I’m going to let you go. Ready?” Dick asked looking slightly hesitant.
“I was born ready.” She gave him a playful wink.
Dick counted and when he reached three, he let go like he said he would. Marinette flew into the air then felt the free fall that she hadn’t realized she missed before the chandelier swung back. She landed gracefully on the metal structure and quickly grabbed hold as it swung back in the opposite direction. Within moments Dick was standing next to her smiling widely.
“Damn if being sexy was a crime, you’d be guilty as charged.” He breathed into her ear.
“You’re lucky I’m not lactose intolerant because you’re as cheesy as they come monsieur.” She pushed his face away giggling.
“I’ll take that as you think I’m a snack.” He wiggled his eyebrows at her.
“That may be so, but you can add loser to that list in a minute.” She surprised him by kissing him on the lips then took a few carefully placed steps and jumped off.
The descend was easier and Marinette had worked out the strongest points to grab before the chocolate chandeliers gave way. Within minutes she let go of the last chandelier and landed in Jason’s waiting arms.
“Now that was impressive sweetheart.” Jason said as he hesitantly let her go and helped her into her skirt. His fingers linger on the small of her back as he did her zipper up and she tried to ignore how good it felt.
“I’d say thank you but I’m curious to know if you all knew those chandeliers were made of chocolate?” Marinette questioned as she turned around and looked accusingly at him.
“What do you mean chocolate?” Jason asked looking confused.
Marinette pointed to the broken chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and held up her chocolate covered hands. Before Jason could answer Dick ran up to them smiling.
“You, you cheated.” There was no heat behind his words as he grabbed her hand. “If you weren’t so darn cute, I’d be annoyed.”
“Wait you cheated?” Jason asked.
“No, technically you let yourself get distracted. There’s a difference.” She shrugged.
“Thanks for that Dickhead you cost me $500.” Jason grumbled pulling his wallet out of his pocket.
“Wait, what does he mean.” Dick asked as Jason handed Marinette her clutch and a pile of notes that she promptly stuffed into said clutch.
“No time to talk circus freaks.” Steph followed by Chloe rushed up to them. “Bruce is coming this way. Time to get outta here.”
Jason looked at Marinette longingly, passed her shoes to her and gave her a two fringed salute before vanishing into the crowd. Steph groaned at her hopeless pseudo brothers before grabbing Marinette’s hand and dragging her and Dick to the nearest exit.
Once they were all piled into her car and leaving the gates Steph turned to Marinette and Dick who were giggling in the back seat.
“What the hell was that shit show and who the hell said you could corrupt my best friend Grayson?”
Dick looked between the two girls. “Hang on a minute, I had no idea Marinette was your friend and it was her idea.”
“Actually, it was your brother’s idea and don’t act like you didn’t jump at the chance circus boy.” Marinette playfully pushed his shoulder. “How do you guys know each other?”
“Of course it was them. I bet that little shit Tim was behind the chocolate chandeliers as pay back for the last gala.” He grumbled.
“Last gala? You guys make a habit of chaos?” Marinette asked as a thought crossed her mind. Did chaos intentionally hunt her out or was it her that was drawn to it?
“How bouts I buy you a drink and I can explain everything, if you’re up for it?” He asked taking off his mask.
Marinette smiled at him and nodded taking off her own mask. She thought he was hot with the mask on but without it he was truly beautiful. “Hey Bee, since you love me so much do you think you could drop us off at that cute little bar on 5Th Pleasssssse?”
Both Steph and Chloe groaned but agreed as the two chandelier swinging idiots shamelessly flirted in the back of the car.
Two hours later after way too many dinks and flirting that turned into a shameless exhibition of PDA the two stumbled into Dick’s apartment. Marinette looked around the apartment momentarily before turning back to Dick. He shut the door and threw his keys onto the hallway table then walked over to her and gently grabbed her hips, wasting no time to pull her back into his arms.
Marinette looked up into his lust filled eyes before wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him down to meet her already swollen lips. The kiss was messy and needy as she pressed her body against his.
Dick pulled away and rested his forehead against hers. “We don’t have to take this any further if you don’t want to.” He breathed against her lips.
“I know what I want, Dick.” Marinette ran her hands up his chest and under his suit jacket, taking it of in one swift movement. “But that goes both ways. What do you want?” She whispered in his ear then playfully bit his earlobe, snickering when he moaned.
“Have I told you how amazing your dress looks tonight? The only thing that would look better on you, is me.” He winked at her as she groaned and smacked his chest.
“Killing the mood Chandelier boy.”
His lip quirked up in a lopsided grin as he grabbed her and assaulted her neck with kisses, running his hand up the split in her dress earning him a soft moan from her parted lips.
“How bout now beautiful?” He asked against her lips.
“Stop talking, more kissing.” She ordered as she make quick work to undo his tie and unbutton his shirt.
He laughed as he captured her lips again. His hands found the zipper on her skirt and quickly tugged it down letting the soft fabric fall to the floor as he lifted her off the ground. Her legs wrapped around his waist as he walked over to the table. He swiped the contents on the ground then gently dropped her onto the smooth wooden surface.
“As you wish.” He breathed against the inside of her thigh.
Marinette lay back on the table as Dick found the clasp for her bodysuit. She quickly realised that swinging from chandeliers wasn’t going to be the only reason she remembered this night.
Sun is up, I’m a mess
Gotta get out now, gotta run from this
Here comes the shame, here comes the shame
Marinette’s eyes fluttered open, taking a moment to adjust to the soft light coming in from somewhere in the unfamiliar room. An arm was wrapped around her, and she could feel a warm body behind her.
Memories of the night before flooded back to her. The gala and the stupid chandeliers. The car trip back into Gotham and seeing Dick’s face without the mask. The embarrassing shovel talk Chloe and Steph tried to give Dick before they got out of the car. The bar seated in a secluded corner. Learning things about each other before the sexual tension came to a head and the two could hardly pull away from each other to make it back to Dick’s apartment.
The apartment that she’d barely seen too busy losing herself time and time again to Dick. She knew there was a table somewhere and a couch that was soft. A plush rug that was to blame for the carpet burn on various parts of her body and who could forget the oversized shower with its waterfall shower head. And last but not least the king-sized bed.
The very bed that she was naked in, wrapped up in Dick’s arms. Who turned out to be her best friends kind of brother. Shit, had she taken things too far this time? The drinking, stupid risk taking, flirting with strangers all just to feel alive again.
Dick was boyfriend material. Someone she could see herself settling down with and she’d stuffed it up by giving into her desirers and having a one-night stand. What was Steph going to think of her? What about Dick?
Marinette could feel the panic start to creep over her skin like a hot flush, her chest tightened, and her stomach started to twist. She needed to get out of there fast before Mr sleeping beauty woke up.
She tried to escape his hold but the more she wiggled the tighter his hold got. In the end she only made it worse and now she was facing him. He looked so peaceful. She really could get use to this.
“S’wasn’t just a dream, you’re still here.” He mumbled into her hair.
“I should really go.” Marinette said pulling away from him.
That seemed to fully wake Dick up. He rubbed his eyes then reached for her wrist before she could get out of the bed. “Did I do something last night that made you uncomfortable?”
She flinched when she saw the hurt in his blue eyes. “No, no I just. I shouldn’t have stayed.” She slumped back against the bedhead holding the sheet over her chest. “You’re amazing. Last night was amazing.”
Dick rested his head on his arm so he could look into her deep blue eyes. “There’s a but right? Look I don’t want you to think I do this all the time.” He ran his hand through his hair, and she couldn’t help but watch the way his muscles flexed. “Maybe I did when I was younger. Young dumb and well you know the rest. I really like you Marinette. I know we kinda rushed things and maybe if I’d been more in control last night, I would have asked you on a date and taken things slowly. You came out of nowhere and literally swung into my life on a chandelier of all things.”
He smiled up at her and she felt her panic slip away. There was something calming about him. He reminded her of someone, but she couldn’t quite place it. “I think you need to have a talk to your fathers’ decorator. Who the hell uses chocolate chandeliers?”
He burst out laughing. “Maybe I should just keep my feet on the ground for once.” He pulled her back down and wrapped his arms around her again. “Is this, ok?”
“Yeah, I think I could get use to this.” She breathed against his lips before catching them with hers.
Dick broke away slightly breathless. “You know I always thought happiness started with a h, but turns out mine starts with u.”
Marinette groaned and playfully bopped his nose. “What am I getting myself in too?” She grumbled as Dick laughed against her lips before kissing her again.
