Can you do most popular tags for Billy batson? This is so neat!
Tumblr media
This is self-made. Date of creation: 25.03.2024
@billy-and-friends Here you go!
The tagwrangling on this character isn't entirely up to date (this is NOT meant as criticism towards the tag wranglers on Ao3 though because they do have an awful lot to do and I'm pretty sure they're doing that for free!), therefore I had to count some tag results manually that haven't been made synonyms with other tags yet.
Am I going overboard with the colourscheme recently?... Perhaps. If it bothers you guys, feel free to tell me.
The "/" between two tags means that they were made synonyms on Ao3 and therefore both will get you the same amount of hits.
I assume no guarantee or liability for the completeness, correctness and accuracy of this chart despite my best efforts.
Includes fanfictions in all languages available on Ao3, NOT English only.
Shiptags and character tags were NOT included.
More charts will follow. :)
Want to have a chart for different pairings, headcanons etc. in your favourite fandom? Send me an ask!

Teenage Justice League Ouran Highschool Host Club
Like everyone's a fuckin billionaire or royalty or some shit at this fancy school for rich kids/geniuses/metas and then there's farm boy Clark Fucking Kent stumbling in all unaccustomed to his powers/strength/body awareness AGAIN after his last growth spurt and going through another round of relearning how to be gentle (which is how he wound up here in the first place - got noticed and offered a scholarship) and knocking over some priceless antique
And Bruce recognizes The Potential for (what would eventually become) Superman and begins plotting the "welp i guess you work for us until you pay that off" plan to whip him into shape (but not of course without some contingencies should he go off the rails - just like for everyone else in the club)

A DC X DP IDEA #27
They’re the strongest?!?!
Imagine dis…
You know … I read too much humans are space orcs fic, prompts, ideas… etc.
But I still like Danny Phantom and DC…
And I remember that one A03 fic…
Another alien invasion is another Wednesday for the JL but it seems like they are quite different. Not only they are known as invaders in the Green Lantern Corps but they also have some sort of code among warriors, they give a chance to the species they are invading to fight back. By having their strongest fight against their strongest. It is not through fighting to the death as different planets have different climates and terrains and thus have their version of the Olympic games but instead of rewarding the participants medals, they were rewarded their planet's safety, but Hal commented that the challenges are too staged, too well known to the invading aliens. Since the ones defending have no idea how to approach the challenges, they always end up losing. Green Arrow commented that since they can just send out the Big Blue boy scout, Hal shook his head as they have to be the same species one planet already tried it by asking aid from another planet and not only lost but the invading aliens got 2 planets, plus they’ll bring it up to the galaxy court system and put them in a tight spot. Of course, Aquaman blinked with confusion and asked if there was a court system for the galaxy.
So of course, when the said invading aliens landed on the Milky Way and broadcasted their intentions. The JL already have a team to fight them, of course, we have Batman with his cunning mind, Wonder Woman for her chivalry and strength, Flash for his speed, Doctor Fate for his mastery of magic, and Cyborg for technological skills. Just as they were about to tell the invading aliens that they had already picked their strongest, another announcement popped out. Apparently to even out the playing field they have a new technology to help them pick out their strongest for them. As if they were talking to kids and promptly pressed the bottom to automatically select the earth’s strongest.
The heroes at the space station as well those around the world who were debriefed about the situation a week before are already bracing themselves to be picked, while the citizens around the globe are all now watching and anticipating as not only this a new thing as the majority of their alien invasion they immediately went to evacuation.
Who appeared/ chosen immediately made both sides' jaws drop….
Three?
Only three are chosen…
An adult, a teen, and a child?
A man who wore a blue rental suit with glasses, blue eyes and black hair. Which the Metropolis recognizes as one of their own. Clark Kent, a reporter with fame and reputation on par with the famed Lois Lane. The ideal model of someone who came from the countryside and made a name and life in the big city.
An 11-year-old boy with blue eyes and black hair who wore a red hoodie, faded jeans, and red shoes, in which the city Fawcett knew of. Billy Batson was, a former foster kid on the run until he found his forever home with the couple named Victor and Rosa Vasquez who also fostered a couple of kids, which Billy claims as his siblings. A kind kid who kept doing good around him and his community.
Lastly, a teen, again with blue eyes and black hair wore a faded NASA hoodie, and blue jeans with faint eye bags which was a small town in Amity Park where he came from. Danny Fenton, the only son of the two leading scientists of ecto-biologists in ecotology, the one who realized that one of the two purple-back gorillas is a female thus avoiding extinction.
Clark Kent by day and Superman by night knew about the invading aliens. He also knew that he could not participate despite being raised on Earth made him unqualified to join. So, imagine his shock when he suddenly found himself with two earth children in the middle of a large arena with futuristic cameras looking at them. He is now in an internal dilemma; how can he save the two kids, while he tries to save Earth altogether?
This train of thought also passed by the young Billy Batson on the said teen, Billy already knew that Superman was already thinking of saving the both of them. Now his priority is to survive and keep his secret ID a secret for a bit longer.
Danny on the other hand has a completely different train of thought, he was just about to reach his room. His beautiful room where his bed is, he had just finished a four-hour exam to bring his grades back up to an acceptable level, 9 continuous ghost attacks, another nonsense quarrel between the observers and he is close to committing anarchy just so he can have the same treatment to Pariah Dark, an eternal sleep in a comfortable looking Sarcophagus of Forever Sleep.
So imagine his surprise when he is suddenly teleported to what looks like an alien ship, Danny would usually be ecstatic but they have interrupted him, he is so close to his bed. He knew that there would be some sort of an invasion as he remembered the bits and pieces from Tucker’s ramble when they last hung out together.
He doesn’t care if aliens invade Earth, but if you come between him and his bed. He will make sure of what he will do to those who disturb him, he will make his fight with his future self and Pariah Dark like child’s play.
The Justice League kept on insisting that they had already chosen their fighters and those who appeared in the middle of their arena were civilians, not warriors. But the invading aliens stayed on their decision and immediately began the games.
The rest of the heroes are now scrambling to not only stop the invading aliens but also save the 2 civilians who were randomly selected.
While the rest of the League is now panicking the rest of the world is now in an outrage. Sending out a civilian man and children by the alien's weird machinery.
The Fenton couples are especially rabid as, if there is anything that tops their ghost obsession, it would be their children’s safety. The family of Batson are on the edge of their seats as they worry for Billy.
The games begin with an opening of rules and such, as well as an introduction to the alien’s warriors who are big and full of muscles making the Earth team look so tiny.
The first game starts with a simple hunting game with very minimal clues and tools at their disposal to find what they seek. Clark can crack the code on to where to hunt but it is a dangerous environment, Clark discusses it with his teammates on how to catch it, Clark is already thinking if he should reveal himself as a meta with strength but Danny just glares at the man and grabbed capturing tools form the table and sought out the thing they are designated to hunt.
The other team took a glance at Team Earth and warbled some snickers at how they took looking/hunting too fast without any plans and went back to their planning.
Clark and Billy are worried for their other teammate but after a few minutes, they hear a roar some shuffles, and then silence.
Back on earth, most people are horrified a what could be the teen’s fate but when footsteps were heard they saw the teen again scathed, with a few scratches, and a hulking beast all tied up from its muzzle to its tails.
Clark nervously asked, still maintaining his civilian identity, how on earth Danny had caught such a beast. Danny’s only response was, back from where he came a certain ”friend” really wanted “someone’s” pelt on a wall and learned some things while HE was chasing that “something”.
That starts the Danny effect…
A tag sort of game as there is a hunter to hunt them down and their objective is to hide longer than the other team, with both Billy and Danny a part, while Billy lasted a few hours with his wit and skills that he honed during his time when he ran from CPS and the police during his days as a foster child, which is impressive itself as he got two of the other team’s members to be captured first before him. Danny outlasted Billy and the rest of the other team won the game in a landslide and gained some bonus points by not only redirecting the hunter and leading them into a false trail or a dead end but also messing with the said hunter without being spotted by him.
Cooking with live and weird ingredients? Clark initially volunteered to do it as he has a stomach of steel being an alien but cannot cook as he has no idea which ingredient is edible as all alien dishes and ingredients come from Krypton and he has to impress the judges who put them in a disadvantage as the judges are from the same race as the opposing team. Danny just shook his head at Clark quickly put on an apron and set to work.
Clark and Billy immediately turned green at the sight as Danny nonchalantly battled the live ingredients, from the meat section to what seems to be the fruit and vegetable section, It is bloody as it is and quite fascinating as it is disgusting. All their years in the Justice League they have seen some twisted and weird things but seeing their third teammate casually stab what looked like an unholy cross hybrid between an octopus and a shark trying to crawl away from the carnage, cleaned the weird animal from the inside out and fillet it.
Of course, they are in disbelief when the judges practically moan the moment, they taste Danny’s dish. Clark and Billy are pretty sure one of the judges is planning to spare Danny and turn him into their chef if the invasion continues, with the way they look at Danny. The judges reluctantly let Danny’s dish win.
Billy reluctantly asked Danny where he learned to cook like that, Danny’s only response was a grumble of a sound that seemed to sound like at home but that cannot be, right?
Trying to survive an onslaught of hypnotic plants native to the alien’s home world, Danny once again won and even began criticizing the plants for how their music was so horrible that it would not even wake the dead.
Play some sort of FIGHTING VIDEO GAME that is popular in 5 sectors in their part of the galaxy, Danny wins and repeatedly shoots the aliens with pure hatred and anger in his eyes, Clark has to physically drag Danny out of the arena to stop his onslaught of firing to the poor guy who was already on the verge of crying.
And so on with the Earth’s team leading COUGH Danny COUGH and demolishing the invading aliens from their games.
After a while the games are done and Team Earth wins with a massive gap to the invading aliens. They returned the three in the middle of the Metropolis and went away without so much a fuss…
Well, expect that one chef in their midst how begged the leader to take Danny and only him with them but the leader is already fearing for his life as the last few games that humans began to be more feral by the second and he was sure he is also a second away from being the one at the other end of his chopping board.
Back on earth everyone cheered on the three and began flashing them their camera lights to get a new scoop, and one brave reporter even tried to interview Danny but when people tried to look for the elusive teen he seemingly disappeared.
Clark knew Danny was, sleeping peacefully in the middle of the bushes a few feet away from them, and kept quiet as he was late to realize that Danny was on the verge of a crash like Red Robin is when he pulled something like this when Conner invited him.
PS: If someone out there wanted to continue or make a fic about this you are free to do so, don’t forget to tag me though.

Dating Billy Batson…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Billy Batson x Reader
Warnings: first time writing for Billy/Shazam!
. . .
• He holds on too tight. He’s scared to lose you, it terrifies him. The constant insecurity that somebody better will come along and swoop you off your feet. Or that you'll get tired of him and leave.
• Once the puppy love/spend every possible moment together/attention starts to wane as everyday life gets in the way, Billy panics. Instead of a natural shift in the relationship, he sees it as the end looming ahead. It’s only after you’re a few minutes late to a date, forgetting to text Billy an update, and arriving to see Billy visibly upset that you realize just how much he’s hurting. Has been hurt. How careful you need to be with his heart.
• You take good measure to get better at communicating after that. Even if it’s telling him you’ll be busy from a certain time so you can’t talk or see him, it makes his heart spin at the fact you’re considering his feelings. He does the same, keeping you in the loop - though turning into his Shazam! counterpart makes that difficult (more on that below)
• Takes forever to open up but once he’s in, he’s in.
—texting you random things he thinks about, sending pics (you’ve seen too many of drooling Freddy and other various unflattering photos of his siblings).
—is SUCH a good listener. Will only interject with things like “-she said what!” or “-that’s like totally insane!”, always things that let you know he’s actually listening. He knows what it’s like to have no one to rely on, so he wants you to know that he’ll always be there for you. For anything. Even if it’s just a bitch sess.
• Grins like an idiot whenever you give him random affection. Kiss on the cheek, a quick hug between class, shoulder squeeze, hand holding. He loves it all
—That said, he's awkward reciprocating it. He never turns away from your affection, but giving it back... it's taken a lot of effort for him to be comfortable doling it out.
—the best he can do without squirming too much is hand holding.
—absolutely loves when you want a hug. the first few times he's stiff and will pat your back until you pull away first. now he loves to be wrapped around you.
• One time he was playing, and losing, a video game, when you came over and sat on the armchair beside him. hand resting on the back of his neck.
—intimacy like that makes him feel so mushy gushy. it's so casual but the affection behind it... makes him swoon.
• Jokingly says his love language is all 5 (words of affirmation, acts of service, physical touch, quality time, and gift giving). he's half-joking. definitely needs a lot of time spent in your company to be reassured that you actually like him and want to be with him romantically (the one text post that goes: “do you like me?” “we’re married.” “answer the question.”)
—words of affirmation: will crumble if you're feeling extra verbally expressive, cheeks flushing red but trying to remain a cool front as he tells you, 'no no, keep going'. the first 'i love you' was such a rollercoaster. in the midst of an argument, you had been upset, worried about him.
“i just love you, okay! and it makes me really scared when i know you're out there being reckless."
his brain shortciruates and any frustration he felt drained away instantly.
“you love me" he whispered almost to himself.
you were exasperated. “of course i do, Billy."
will always feel a thrill in his chest when you say it, no matter the circumstance.
—acts of service: absolutely melts if you do anything for him. at all. even if it's something as simple as getting him a drink because you noticed he finished his old one. of course, once you've done something for him, he feels like he has to pay it back somehow. it takes awhile for you to get through to him that you like doing things for him because you like him, and not because you expect anything in return.
—physical touch: kinda already covered it, but it's reassuring to him. if he's having a low moment all he needs is a hug and he's already feeling better. your presence is soothing. can spend a long time just cuddling (super top secret, no one can know: Billy loves to be the little spoon). will tap your hand three times randomly, a little silent 'i love you'. does it without realizing. is so flustered over kissing. he will get cherry red and then deny being shy while his heart is hammering away in his chest. what a dork.
—quality time: has a set day of the week that you'll do something together, whether it's see a movie, have dinner, go to the park, etc. it doesn't matter what it is but phones are on do not disturb. sometimes all you do is lay in bed and complain about your weeks, ranting and gossiping. he enjoys those dates especially.
—gift giving/receiving: anything you get him, he will keep forever and cherish. will yell at Freddy if he tries to throw something away. "that 'trash' is actually a paper straw ring that y/n gave me!" it could be a literal rock you thought was cool, he's keeping it. has a spot on his desk with the things you've given him. he's always sending you pics of things that remind him of you: sunsets, animals, flowers, anything. and somehow always saves up to get you something for your birthday.
• Does not have a social media presence at all. he only got Snapchat after being bugged by Darla and Eugene. he has seven friends. you’re his number one best friend/highest streak.
• Makes a private instagram account so he can like and comment on anything you post. also to make sure no one is creeping on you, because he knows a caped crusader with lightning fingers that might pay someone a visit. only follows you and Darla back.
• Phone wallpaper is you and him. changes it all the time depending on what photo he's obsessing over.
• Almost cried in front of everyone when you gave him a framed photo of you both for his birthday. it’s on his nightstand and he looks at it every night.
• Loves how well you get along with his siblings but also needs your attention 24/7 so he’s quick to take you on dates away from them. though they somehow end up crashing it 6/10.
• Thought his chest was going to implode when he saw you using chalk outside with Darla one day. he didnt even know you had come over. making him realize you hang out with his siblings without him, he’s a little butthurt.
• Darla is a huuuuge fan of your relationship. She may love you more than Billy. seriously. was so pumped to meet you for the first time, had a sign made and everything. Billy was worried her energy would be too much for you, but you love Darla. If Billy is your number 1 best friend on snapchat, then Darla is number 2.
• Sometimes you'll play video games with Billy and Eugene and Billy tries to hide how shocked he gets when you can beat a level that he can't. he's just really bad, give him a few pointers!
• Billy anagonizes over telling you about his superhero persona. on one hand, it's hard to lie to your face and he knows that it comes off as shady or weird when he's randomly disappearing with a flimsy exuse. but he also doesnt want to endanger you either??
— You put the pieces together very quickly (Freddy whispers very loudly) and enjoy watching Billy squirm for weeks. until one day you happen to have a run in with him in his suped up form.
— “Wow, thanks for the help sir."
"Of course, anything for you. Uh, citizen of Philadephia."
"I wish there was a way I could repay you."
"Your safety is all I need!" Cue thumbs up and a wink, cheesy grin that was so Billy.
"Perhaps a kiss?" You press, watching his face fall as he scrambles for a reply. Your stomach hurts from the effort of not laughing.
"That would not be appropriate. You’re a civilian- I'm a hero! And also way too old. Like 30 years old."
"I don't kiss and tell."
Billy / Whatever the hell his superhero name was mouth drops open in shock. "Don't you have a boyfriend!?"
You make a show of looking around. "I don't see him around."
"Y/N!"
"Yes, Billy?"
"How could you! Wait."
You burst out laughing.
"That's what you get for keeping this a secret from me! Now tell me everything because I still don't know how this is you."
"Hey, this, is a god and it's really cool."
• After that fiasco, Billy loves to send you videos of him flying around the city (he stopped after a bird pooped on his head), sending goofy selfies as his alter ego that make you laugh. He's taken you on flying trips too but after the bird incident you're not as keen anymore. Though you can’t deny it’s romantic watching the sun set on a really tall building with nothing but you and Billy, talking about your futures.
“You know I’ve heard that college is a sucker for foster kids, I should apply.”
“We could apply for student housing and be roommates.”
“No more Freddy snoring.”
“No more rules, just me and you.”
“I like the sound of that.”
“. . .”
“Actually college campuses have a lot of rules. Probably more than we have right now.”
“…just watch the sunset.”

DP x DC Prompt that struck my brain in a funny way #7
Billy Batson was having an…okay day so far. His morning was fine, his school day was fine, his return home was fine. Then he got called up by the Justice League when he was in the middle of trying to ignore his homework by claiming that he was just “spending quality with his foster siblings.” Which he was, but apparently that’s not a good excuse to avoid homework. But, he could skip homework if he said he was going to hang out with some school friends.
Billy just did not expect someone to see him while he transformed into Captain Marvel. He looked around for people beforehand, he didn’t see anyone. But someone did, and now he’s got a ghost of teenager following him around like a mother hen, for such reasons as, “you’re like ten” and “when I was young I had at least two people with me while fighting the horrors.”
How was he supposed to explain this to the Justice League?

Billy Batson the homeless kid from Fawcett City first, and Captain Marvel second (my take)
Unpopular, and probably a bad take but as someone who read Alex Dogboy as a child and wants to re-read it asap, I like the interpretations of Captain Marvel in which Billy Batson is homeless for a good while before falling back into care. I even got a whole image in my head for why he doesn’t want to return to cps and try to get a foster family.
Let’s say his parents die, and it’s a horrible trauma and Billy is NOT okay, he’s 13 when it happens and then jumps from home to home for a while, his experiences being mediocre until he gets ONE parent that tries doing something unspeakable to him (insert social commentary on how unsafe the foster system is) and he runs away. From that point on, he lives on the streets.
And he has it BAD.
I’m not a fan of angst, and suffering of characters, especially young doesn’t bring me any kind of joy but I like seeing a character survive. Fight against the cruel environment they live in, against horrible odds, and celebrate small victoires like there is no tomorrow. Holding onto those victories to not loose yourself.
A successful shoplifting mission, something useful found while dumpster diving, nimbly avoiding criminal gangs, both big and small on his way "home" (which is an abandoned building apartment in a bad part of town).
I don’t want Billy to have it bad per ce, but I want the comics to really EXPLORE how difficult it gets, living in the streets as a child that needs love and care, but has to stay vigilant because in this world, any adult could hurt you. I want an entire comics issue just about Billy surviving in that world, getting by day by as autumn slowly changes to winter and it gets progressively colder. I want the comics to delve into his struggles before he get a a power that will make his life easier, because it’ll amplify the magic of seeing him get powers of the gods.
I want to see him be crude and swear like he so often does in the modern versions of the character, and then deliberately steal food to feed cats. He might see a flower shop owner getting harassed while she’s bringing her newly arrived plants inside and then walk behind the guy who bugs her to punch him square in the jaw. He’s not perfect, he has put up walls to protect himself, but it’s these instinctive acts of kindness (though rough around the edges) make the wizard choose him. He’s desperate and Billy is, again, NOT perfect, but he has potential, and it’s all that matters.
I want to see all of what I’ve written above play a big role and impact Captain Marvel’s every decision as a hero. Not just his childhood naivety and teenage brashness, but his trauma and bad experiences. I want to see him interact with the league in line with his background.
And I want him to fall in love with Rosa. I want to see him warm up to the idea of having a parent again, of having a family once more. I want her to be a small business owner, maybe if that’s that same flower shop and maybe it’s not going very well but she’s happy and she has her foster kids, until one day she gets harassed by a creepy stranger in front of her shop and a boy from the streets delivers him a clean left hook for it.
They see each other around, Billy is clearly homeless, and she buys him takeout. After that, he, akin to a cat, slowly eases into a friendship with her and eventually falls into this inner crisis because he’s afraid of loosing a parent again and adults have hurt him before, he’s scared but Rosa’s smile is so genuine and he feels so incredibly safe around her he just can’t resist showing up at her shop, eventually helping her out and then getting a part-time job there, which helps him get bare necessities without stealing.
I want Billy to choose to make that terrifying leap because he trusts that Rosa will catch him, and then he can have the new plot with being introduced into her family, his new siblings and dad (Victor).
Adventures of Captain Marvel, all the insane stuff he can do is absolutely cool and I totally want to read that, but I’m just saying that his adventures would feel so much more magical and amazing if the writers leaned into the darker aspects of his story more often.
That’s just my take tho idk, might delete later 🤷
(Anyway if you got any questions — feel free to drop them in my as box✨)

Related to my prev post:
I don't give two shits if Bruce is written like a bad dad if it means we get good writing for everybody else since i think minorities are more important than a white cishet male nepotism baby unlike his butch lesbian counterpart who's judaism is an actual fundamental part of her character and since he's been written as abusive so consistently over the years it's in-character anyway
Dick can be both bi/pan and demisexual and there's more evidence for the latter than the former so making him be sexually loose is aspec erasure and mspec stereotyping and he dosen't have a thing for redheads,he has a thing for black women and to me the only guy he seems to like romantically is Roy and that adds on to his demisexuality since they're childhood best friends
'Catholic guilt Jason' is a shit headcanon that misses the major and critical part of him being Red Hood that he didn't feel the slightest bit bad about killing people and the point of his redemption was learning remorse, afrolatino Jason isn't based on stereotyping but him filling out so many black and latino cultural aspects and if any hcs for him are stereotyping it's the one that he's a slut because he's a very handsome and hot and cute goth punk man
Tim is perfect the way he is and dosen't need power ups or to get 'punished' for the oh so horrible crime of being a realistic teenage boy,he's not JUST huge a loser or a super cool dude but both at once and it's bad writing and fetishistic to ignore his wide range of relathionships that consists of mostly of women to make him a 'guys guy'
Stephanie is heavily autistic and bpd-coded so she's far from a 'normie',much less an 'it girl' but people see blonde hair and blue eyes and throw away everything else about her because that's all she's worth to them or call her an abuser and a pick me just like they do irl bpdtistic women and she's also canonically pastel/indie punk and a Team Mom but gets her presentation switched to basic and made out to be a womanchild instead
Cass had a million times more moral conflict than Jason ever did, would never in her LIFE wanna be feminine even in the chinese way and would be butch in it instead, turning her scattered speech into sign language is ableist not unlike(but not on the same level as)changing Babs' type of wheelchair disability and she'd be a better Batman than any male character in existense
Duke is only a golden child in the sense he has a yellow motif and is as disruptive and authentically quirky as his siblings,We Are Robin is a better team than the canon Outlaws, his powers are cooler than any Al-Ghul ones you could come up with,he has more femme energy than Tim does and Carrie Kelley ain't shit and only gets brought back to replace him because DC is antiblack
Damian's introduction mentality was a result of not only child abuse but also psychological grooming to get him to dehumanize himself and all his bigoted comments are explained either by him being like 12 or his writers trying to demonize brown people and anybody who thinks he's a bad person is a super-sized pissbaby with no sympathy for kids of color, shipping him with Jon is making a bisexual man into a ped0phile and Jay is good even if aging Jon up wasn't and he should be friends with Maya,Suren,Nell,Colin,Kathy,Maps,Tai and Miles,Gwen,Peni,Pavitr,Hobie and Margo from Atsv and Nico and Hazel from Pjo instead of Billy Batson or Danny Fenton or ANY Mcu characters
Talia is super hot but should be drawn in accurate arab clothes instead 'sexy assasian gear'(not that these two can't co-exist but you get what i mean),her personality is extremely rich and her stories are mega interesting, she's a good mom to Damian and literally never 'took advantage of Jason' seeing as That Scene In Lost Days was decanonized by it's writer who said it was ooc for her on his part, she should've been a mom figure to Stephanie in her Robin Days too since they would get along and she deserved her own run where she takes over Lexcorp to transform it into a force for good and become Superfam-adjacent to free herself from having only male connections

Hi would you like to draw Spider as street kid in modern au? I really like your Billy Batson art + the way you draw Spider so I think this combination would be so perfect 😅 I totally understand if not, anyway have a nice day/night!
BOY DO I HAVE NEWS FOR YOU—
Ever since @naavispider responded to a prompt about street kid Spider meeting Quaritch, I was very interested in the idea so I def wanna draw that but for now, let me present you with some thing I came up with.
.
Street kid Spider modern AU
Imagine Miles Spider Socorro in the modern AU, escaping from the foster system bc he was treated very poorly and decided to gamble with the homeless life instead. He lives like that for maybe three-four years when Miles tracks him down. Because the boy is so good at parkour, he’s been given the street nickname of Spider, which the blonde is proud of and uses as his real name.
Spider lives in the attic of an abandoned mall that is so overgrown with unkept plants and trees that it’s more of a jungle. He takes care of many cats who made themselves at home there and as a result of being around them 24/7 develops some of their mannerisms, like head movements when curious, crouching and hissing when agitated. He doesn’t get much proper human contact until meeting the Sullies.
The Sully kids have moved in not long ago and crave adventure. The overgrown mall looks like a magical forest to them and in it they find Spider, a creature of the woods with his long, curly, matted hair, ripped and stitched together over a thousand times clothes, trinkets worn on his neck like necklaces, and the many cats surrounding him. Spider smells like soil and cat food and is initially scared of the four children (four bc you’d never catch Neteyam exploring abandoned buildings, he’s a good boy), ready to fight them like he fought every other street-dweller ever since ending up outside of care. Out here, the kids mostly end up either as addicts or in gangs, so Spider had no friends his age…until that fateful day.
From that point on, Spider becomes their secret friend and the siblings visit him every day. They love his bravery and sass, underneath which lies a compassionate heart of gold. They not only buy him necessities, but even help him shoplift on some days, not only for himself but for the street animals as well, plus old homeless people who huddle around makeshift fires on cold nights. They become sort of robins in their own right, and Jake, together with Neytiri, although suspect something, don’t know about the secret bestie their kids made.
Neteyam suspect much more and slowly puts the puzzle together. He is not thrilled.
All is well, life is looking up…until Kiri tells Spider one day, as they hang out in the roof, that she heard in the news of a certain “Miles Quaritch” getting out of prison, advising that the boy stays safe.
She stills when she sees the sheer look of horror on his face.
“Spider..?..”
“I…”
“…You know him?”
“Promise me you won’t freak out.”
“I-I won’t, I won’t.”
“…
I’m, like…his son.”
From that point on the drama quickly ramps up because Spider’s social cervices agent Norm has also tracked the kid down to this city, operating on rumours and rare camera footage of the boy. It doesn’t make the situation easier that Norm is also friends with Jake and keeps venting to him about how miserable and hurt Spider must be while the Sully kids are right there knowing where he hides.
And that’s pretty much the gist of this AU. For Spider, it’s a tense situation where he has to be sneakier than ever bc cps are close on his track and his father is even closer and he wants his son back. On both fronts, Socorro is threatened with a total loss of freedom and autonomy. The kids have to be sneaky too when they visit him…but no one can be sneaky enough to pass under Quaritch’s nose.

may i req sleepover fluff or early morning cuddles with billy batson? i just think your writing is really neat 🫶🫶
Tumblr media
I’m glad you enjoy my writing! I hope you like this also because once again it’s a long one. 🦦
It was Darla’s idea that they should have a sleepover. Billy, however, felt indifferent towards the whole thing;
‘We all live under the same roof, how’s a sleepover going to make it any different?’ He said but if he knew Darla, he knew that she was more then adamant in making the sleepover happen. ‘Yeah but you can always invite y/n to join.’ She countered, smiling at how her brother visibly perked up at your name; unfortunately Darla wasn’t the only one to witness this.
‘I’m sure Billy will do just that as soon as we leave the room, just you wait.’ Freddy snickered as Billy nudged him harshly in the arm, hissing at him to ‘shut up’ whilst trying to conceal his embarrassment before being greeted by an expecting Darla. ‘Fine.’ He sighed, his hand going fishing in his Jean pocket for his phone for your contact as he caught Darla and Freddy giving each other a high five from the corner of his eye.
A smile gracing his lips at his siblings excitement, not wanting to admit to the sensation he felt that only grew at the aspect of you spending the night; a feeling that only grew tenfold when you agreed to the invite.
Not even halfway through the second movie, Darla had fallen asleep against your side, Whilst Freddy, Mary, Pedro and Eugene left for bed, leaving only you and Billy being the only participants of the supposed sleepover, to which Billy felt like it was a set up of sorts that he wasn’t privy to, especially with the cheeky look Freddy tossed him before he had left for their room. He didn’t exactly approve his family prying into his nonexistent love life but that didn’t mean the intentions behind it wasn’t warming to him.
Not when he knew how much of a supporter Darla was of you and him being together, so much so that she often tried in becoming a matchmaker for you both whenever you came over, but her plans always seemed to end in busts that were in no particular fault of her own; Billy just so happened to have a tendency of self sabotaging things for himself. Especially good things.
‘Should we take her to bed?’ You asked quietly, trying your hardest not to speak above a certain volume nor jostle as much in fear of waking the girl practically clinging to your side like a koala. Billy chuckled at the predicament you were in and made himself more comfortable on the couch, the movie -with fifteen minutes left of runtime- continued to play before an audience of none, seeing as how your attentions were more focused on the other then whether was being presented on screen. ‘Nah, I’d say she’s more then comfortable where she is.’ He responded, smirking at your deadpan expression.
‘Oh ha ha, you must believe yourself a comedian.’ You retorted, stilling all movement when you felt Darla shift in her sleep, it wasn’t until she nuzzled back into your side again where you let yourself heave a sigh of relief, which didn’t fail in making Billy chuckle. ‘Oh shut it you, chuckle fuck.’ You hissed, lightly snacking his knee that was pressed against your own. Something you hadn’t taken notice of until now…
We’re your knees always that close? If not then when?
‘Don’t let Darla hear you using that language y/n. You’ll become a bad influence.’ Billy teased, finding amusement in your frustration as you rather aggressively flipped him off in response. ‘I was being serious though, shouldn’t we get Darla to bed, I don’t want her to wake with a bad neck.’ You told him, looking over at the sleeping girl who was -at this point- too far into her slumber to be easily awoken by a sudden shift in movement. Billy looked passed you and at his sister, watching fondly as her hands were clutching to your shirt tightly as though you were her beloved plushie, before looking back to you as you looked down at Darla fondly; making sure the blanket you slipped over her form doesn’t falter and expose her to the chilly air of the room despite aching for sleep yourself. Feeling particularly nice tonight, Billy decided to cut you so lack and lend a hand.
‘Alright, I concede, let’s get this one to bed then shall we.’ He said as he hauled himself from the sofa, moving over to Darla’s side and began to gently pry her hands from your shirt, allowing them to cling to his shirt instead as he brought his arms underneath her legs and behind her back, before mentally counting down from three as he stood back to full height. Making his way towards the staircase Billy gave you one request before heading up. ‘Keep my seat warm for me will you.’
‘it’s the least I can do for my valiant hero.’ You sarcastically retorted.
By the time Billy returned from tucking Darla into bed, you were stretched out across the sofa, fast asleep and with the blanket covering the bottom half of your form. ‘I give you one task and you go ahead and fall asleep,’ he says to himself in faux annoyance, hands on his hips as he stood by the sofa, ‘typical.’ He softly tutted but instead of going to bed himself, Billy decided to join you on the sofa, fatigue quickly catching up to him as he laid his head on the armrest as sleep soon encapsulated him.
The next morning, Freddy and Darla found you and Billy snuggled up on the sofa. They proceeded to share another high five.

So we all love slightly overprotective Big Brother Jason, but do you know what's also amazing?
More than slightly overprotective Big Brother Tim.
Like yeah, he knows that Damian is a capable fighter and has tried to kill him several times, but also baby? Is baby? Protect baby! Besides, what's a little attempted murder between siblings? Jason tried to kill Tim, and now they have movie nights every other Wednesday. It's fine.
When they have a patrol together Tim takes them out to get water ice as a treat once they're done. He makes sure to ask about Damian's art and how he's doing in his classes. He keeps an eye out for all of Damian's triggers and is ready to step in at the first sign of trouble. He keeps any and all contingency plans for his siblings under lock and key but keeps Damian's behind seven extra layers of protection.
One time some lady at a gala said "Damian's going to get a lot of attention when he's eighteen, if you know what I mean" and by the end of the night Tim had dug up every dirty secret on her and gave it to Jason and Babs to do with it what they would.
Damian acts like it's infantilizing and unnecessary, but they both know he apprentices the care and attention. It helps him feel like they've moved on from the rocky start of their relationship into being actual brothers.
Love it. Would Jason end up being jealous mildly put out that Tim’s beating him to overprotectivateing (no I’d didn’t just make that work up shush) Damian? Because that could also be hilarious.
Also I feel like Damian would do it right back to Tim in some way or another. Maybe while being as irritating as possible because 10-13 year olds are just Like That sometimes.
Okay so (now that this idea is committing nuclear fission in my brain) what if Jason sees Tim and Damian being overprotective of each other and they keep beating him to the (occasionally literal) punch, and so he goes, “why am I even here.”
He tries to turn his overprotective mother-henning tendencies towards someone else. Cass tells him no. Steph can’t stop laughing but does accept all good offerings. Dick is not-so-secretly thrilled. But that ruins it for Jason because eww Dick is just accepting this with heartfelt thank yous and hugs and hasn’t even tried to stab Jason or break into his safe house once.
And then Jason runs across this little kid that turns out to be a member of the justice league with no parental figure in sight and this is perfect.
Jason shows up to Gotham with Billy Batson in tow and it takes Tim and Damian all of four seconds to go protective big-brother on him. (“I’m older than you!” “Irrelevant.”)
Tim and Damian take Billy to a shooting range. Cue Jason complaining to a mildly amused and very entertained (yet unsympathetic) Steph. “That’s my thing. That is literally my thing.”

Excuse Me, Barmaid, I’m Afraid You Brought Me the Wrong Hero
EDIT: MASTERLIST
***
Okay, so... Mayyyyybe Dash should have thought this through. And, Dash would like people to know that he was doing all this out of the goodness of his heart. Phantom was becoming... Tired. Everyone could see it. Even the wacky Fenton parents noticed it, doubling their efforts to catch the only ghost that could defend their home.
And, well, when you find an old book from your grandma's that tells you how to summon heroes, who wouldn't take that chance to help their local hero? At least, until Phantom gets better.
So, yeah. Dash wanted a hero who wouldn't get overshadowed. He wanted a hero who had the might of the gods. He wanted a hero who could also be just a regular person, able to blend in with the crowd.
"Hey, do you have any more food?"
Dash wanted to bash his own head against the wall. Because he didn't summon a hero. He summoned a scrawny, 12-years-old kid who looks like he was randomly picked up from the streets!
His mom cooed at the child.
"Yes, you're welcome to have more, sweetheart."
"Thank you, Mrs. Baxton!"
Yeah, this kid certainly isn't a hero if he's easily stealing all of his mom's love and affection like that.
His mom pinched his cheeks, commenting how polite the child is, before getting started with the dishes.
****
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA 😂😂😂
I LOVE summoning fics and ideas!!! 💙 And because I love them, I wanted to change things around a bit! What if it's the local Amity Parker that ends up summoning heroes from another world/universe? (or they could be in the same universe if you'd like!) HERO SUMMONING!
- Dash ended up summoning Billy Batson, who could pass as Danny's little brother if the Fentons were willing to take him in.
- But the kid, for some reason, doesn't hate him for summoning him and wants to stay with Dash.
- Dash's parents are even considering adopting the kid! As if Dash brought the kid into their home out of the goodness of his heart. (Technically, he did. 😂)
- "Oh, Dash, sweetie. This reminds me of the time you said you wanted a little brother because you found out that little Danny was actually the same age as you!"
- "Mooooom! You promised not to talk about that!"
- "Correction: your dad promised. And I will abuse my power to tease you endlessly!"
- At first, Billy did this to annoy Dash. He knows a bully when he sees one. He also wanted to see how far he could go in annoying Dash before he gets kicked out by him. But as time with the Baxters’ goes by, Billy finds that he's become very fond of this summoner who's slowly becoming like his big brother. Being annoying didn’t feel like a ‘how far could i get away with this’ but has now turned into small teasing between siblings, it was... kinda great...
- But, when Billy encounters his first ghost attack, he suddenly knew exactly why he was summoned. It could have been Superman, or Batman, or Zatanna, or even Wonder Woman! But being the Champion of Magic gave him access to the Infinite Realms, not enough to traverse it, but to at least receive contact from it.
- And so, with a loud SHAZAM! he turns into Captain Marvel and fights alongside the upcoming King to the Ghost Realm.
- Dash... He just witnessed the most insane de-transformation of his life. When lightning struck near his home, he got worried about his parents and, dare he say it, his new little brother. (Dash saw the adoption papers. But also, the kid was growing on him. He gradually stopped being a bully when Billy thought of how cool Dash was, like he was a white Victor Stone or whatever. It made him want to be better, especially when those eyes were genuinely impressed with him. It made it all the better when Danny was weirded out by his character development.)
- But when he saw the newest Hero, Captain Marvel, the very example of what a hero should look like, should act like, and should be like, transform back into his little brother, so many questions started filling Dash's head. Was Billy actually an adult? Or was Captain Marvel really just a child?
- Dash really did summon a hero.
- Dash confronts Billy, because there was no way Dash would be able to pretend he didn't see anything.
- The more Billy talked, though, the more Dash felt... panic rising in his chest. He summoned a hero, yeah, but the hero is an ACTUAL KID who TRANSFORMS INTO AN ADULT.
- That's not what makes him panic, though. What does is that he became so attached to this scrawny kid who keeps raiding his secret sweets stash, who keeps stealing his parents' affection, who Dash has to visit his room at night because he seems to be the only one who can quell the kid's nightmares.
- The newest hero is his kid brother. His annoying little brother. His newest precious little brother who laughs and smiles at him, and calls him the coolest when he manages to throw the football so many meters away.
- It's not about Phantom anymore. Dash needs to be there for his brother.
- He comes to a realizatiom that maybe, maybe, all this time Phantom didn't need another hero to help him. Maybe, all he needed was people who cared to just back him up and give him support. Give him encouragement that he was doing great. That what he was doing was appreciated.
- Because Billy seemed to get better and better when he was told how good he was being in this hero gig. How relaxed and relieved he was when he realized that Dash wasn't going to leave him alone in helping Phantom.
- So, Dash also tells Phantom what he said to Billy, that he has Phantom's back. Phantom didn't seem convinced, most of all Manson and Foley. But Phantom takes it, especially when Dash was being genuine about it.
***
- And then there's Wes. Nosy and annoying, and bordering on stalkerish. Maybe he might be right about Phantom being Danny Fenton, but he really needs to leave his little brother alone. Dash won't hesitate falling back to old habits if he won't stop.
- "Why are you so calm about all this, Billy?"
- "Oh, well, Batman was more of a stalker than Wes is. Oracle and Red Robin, Batman's hero partners, are actually scarier because they thrive in this. The way he's going about it is actually pretty cute, in comparison."
- Cute? "We need to do something about how desensitized you are about this."

feeling evil, have some angst
so twins mary and billy, their parents died and they were both “taken in” by ebenezer and, shockingly enough, he sucks
ebenezer ends up almost killing mary and ditches her in some alley or something where someone kind finds her and gets her into a better place/adopts her but she lost her memories due to the trauma, i imagine that she very vaguely remembers billy and just knows something is missing but generally lives a pretty good life
anyways, billy saw her get beaten by ebenezer and doesnt know what happened to her after and might assume shes dead
he leaves ebenezer and lives on the streets (maybe gets some sort of revenge?)
later he becomes the champion and even layer joins the league
and one day while on a mission with the league he gets hit by a magic spell (or maybe fear toxin? but i’m thinking more a spell) that makes him relive his worst memory/fear
he manages to hold off the effects until he gets to the watchtower (maybe thinks nothing is wrong until it hits him at the watchtower?) and his whole demeanour just changes
he goes from happy cap to scared child to so full of rage and sorrow that it engulfs martian manhunter
i can’t organise anymore of my thoughts rn but basically it’s not fun times
Never stop being evil, honey bee 🐝
I've been going absolutely buck wild over this and let me tell you, the angst in this nutrious fic meal is divine! My compliments to the chef! 👨‍🍳
For the twin batson siblings, it's always been a thought of mind of how they could get separated from each other for so long. It's a thing that has different scenarios and details depending on the author/writer, but I thoroughly enjoy the idea of Mary and Billy being under Ebeneezer's care until Ebeneezer decides to get rid of one of them, via not so good means, and the other ending up running away in fear. Billy was always the one who ran away in my eyes, but the reasons into his run away decision is much deeper than one originally thinks.
Billy doesn't want to run away. He's a child who needs protecting. But he's led to believe that he has to, out of fear and wanting to live. Seeing his own twin sister getting near the brink of death would traumatize Billy. They share the same face, seeing Mary get hurt would scare Billy into thinking he was next. Maybe Ebeneezer got tired of having to take care of children, maybe he wanted their trust funds/inheritance, or maybe there was an accident with his car and he didn't see Mary playing in the drive way (or did he), and wanted to ditch the body. So many scenarios that could have lead to the ultimate destruction of this family. Mary is also a child, and to go through all of that would certainly be painful for ber to endure. I wouldn't blame her if the memories of this was too much to handle, causing her to repress everything into an amnesia like state for her own safety. She's fortunate enough to get adopted into a new family and have a fresh start in life, but she will be apart and missing that half of her that is her brother. She may not remember Ebeneezer hurting her, but the scars will stay.
As for sweet Billy Batson, running away to become homeless wasn't easy, but it's a decision he felt was safer than being in that horror of a house. He eventually becomes the champion of magic and joins the Justice League, good for him, but the traumas and tragedies of his past haunt him more than he realizes. Despite having all the magic in the world, he's still a child crying for his parents and sister deep down. This can be exposed/played with if a certain Venusian worm wanted to experiment and rot away his mind to destroy him, and what better way to do it than with Mr. Mind partnering up with the Scarecrow. I'm unsure what deal they would have to work together, but the mind is a terrifying place that holds the person together. A mind controller and a man who is fear itself would have a hell of a time together facing the Justice League.
Perhaps these two are hunting down members of the league together, slowly making their attempts to dwindle their numbers of active heroes down for a larger scale plot. Make the heroes of the world defenseless against their minds and inner fears, too mentally weak to fight against the later plot. The JL is on high alert, warning their fellow heroes of what's to come. Cap is too late for their message, already a victim to the evil duo's diabolical mental manipulation. Mr. Mind knows who Cap is and uses it to his advantage, controlling his memories to bring forward the worst memories of his life; his time in Ebeneezer's house. The abuse the went though. The starvation. The sense of worthlessness. Reliving what he believes were Mary's last moments. The blood. The dread. The fear.
Billy knows he's losing his mind. He can feel his mental fortitude rotting away and melting into insanity over the waves of grief and wrath engulfing him. Perhaps this also causes the seven deadly enemies to being to break free from their prisons as well. He manages to make it to the watch tower, desperately admiting that he needs help immediately, losing his smile and crying a storm of tears that won't stop.
He's defenseless. He feels weak. Worthless. The memories that haunt him are possessing his every thought, eating away at him.
I'd very much like to see how Martian Manhunter would handle this situation, especially considering how he would find out fast that Billy is just a kid, but also the dangers of entering a mind that Mr. Mind has tampered with. I'd love to see more interactions between these people, as well as batman, since Scarecrow is his villain/rogue after all.
I had an absolute blast with this ask! There's so much potential that goes with Billy and his past traumas, especially when it concerns Mary. The constant separation anxiety they both must feel, but Mary doesn't know what she's feeling separated from must be awful.
Oh goodness I wrote a lot

Just following Batson
Another Idea
So, there’s aways that running joke where the bats like to say that’s almost time for Bruce to adopt another kid or that the pattern is about to break with a lot of people writing that small bit into their stories. So, what if instead of finding Billy as a coincident they find him because he is connected to a case of theirs’s.
I like for either Barbara or Tim to work on a case and since like any bat they would look into every nook and cranny of this case to solve it. The case would be connected to maybe an archaeologist sight or archaeologist themselves, hence, could involve C.C. and Marilyn Batson. Both would look over the family to see if they might be more connected to the case then they thought only to see them dead and leaving a boy behind.
Billy Batson. The irony of it all is not overlooked in the slightest.
If it were Tim then he would look up Billy to see if he got caught up in the mess that was the case only to dig deeper and deeper into how he was given to his uncle only to go to the foster system and finally into the cracks. It reminds him of Duke and Jason before they were adopted and Tim is slowly starting to invest himself in Billy’s case.
I don’t know that much about Barbara but I’ll to think she involved Steph and Cass somehow.
Push comes to shove they would visit Fawcett for the case because it seems that C.C. and Marilyn were involved somehow, and they fear that Billy might be in danger.
Cue the confusion of trying to find a street kid who always somehow knows that he is being watched and can always get away from them (which is rare for a bat). Once might be luck but seven times? Yeah no. There is definingly something he is hiding.
Meanwhile, Billy is slightly panicking because he thinks that the sightings of the Bats and Birds in Fawcett means that Batman has finally found out about his identity and are trying to find him to kick him out of the Justice League.
Additional side notes:
+Jason will have a good laugh at his Billy’s last name. Would probably be the one to help Billy hide from the rest of his siblings while slowly getting to know him
+Damian doesn’t care because he is chasing him for the case but is intrigued over how he keeps losing them (and more then mildly frustrated at that)
+Cass is the first to find Billy but Duke is the one to find out about his secret first which Cass finds out from Duke because she is that good. They both have a pact not to snitch
+Dick is fully invested now
+Bruce is just out by the sidelines not knowing where this is going but he knows Alfred has some adoption papers on stand by
+(His name is Batson, of all things it was Batson how can you not-?)

DC should have never un-twined the Batsons
I mean it, there is so much that could be done today in interesting character developments and analysis or just struggles and issues about their whole dynamic without jeopardizing the “Magic twins in their own found family that fight the forces of evil” thing
To prove my point, I’m going to rattle off ideas that could most definitely have been explored in DC’s “If it’s gritty it’s good” writing mentality and its love for drama
As it goes, their story started on the simple note of the whole switched at birth story, with Mary swapped with another couples dead daughter by said couples nurse to neither family’s knowledge.
That alone is gold, it leaves the Batson family mourning a child while (depending on the canon) doing their best to be active and loving parents to the child they do have. And it doesn’t have to just be the parents, my own brother has a sister that died before he could remember her at all (we are half siblings and I never knew her) and he still makes a yearly trip to her grave to clean it up and keep the grass from covering it. Billy could have very well have mourned too and have had a hang up about being the twin that lived when it seemed like his sister died shortly after birth.
Then, when Nurse Primm does tell Billy the truth in her dying days, Billy could have this whole relief at having his sister or having a sister. It would also open up this whole bag of worms with Mary, because as much as she loves her brother and spending time with him it comes with the revelation that her parents weren’t her parents and her nurse did a horrible thing to their biological parents.
There’s the fact that the Batsons are dead and they died thinking she was gone, she never got the chance to meet them, all she has is her brother who did know them. And then comes the Bromfields, should she tell them or not? She isn’t their daughter, not even legally since she was switched without their knowledge. She’s known them as her parents her whole life up until that point, she might not want to tell them and would have to keep her real relationship to Billy secret and say they’re just friends when that’s her literal twin.
It’s only when they are powered up, turned into Captain and Mary Marvel, that they can even publicly call the other a sibling because that’s their alternate identities. That magic is something they can share as a family, they are explicitly called the Marvel Family with Freddy and Uncle Dudley and the other Lieutenant Marvels who are also like family to them to a degree.
There is a great potential for their power and magic as an allegory for found family, as it’s been used previously in the newer comics. They could have Mary agonizing over knowing she’s not the Bromfields real daughter, they could have them accept her any way and want to bring Billy in too despite his well known independence even at a young age, it could be a real angsty chapter in Mary’s life if her parents didn’t accept her after knowing at the reveal. It could be a reveal! Mary could be hiding far more than her superheroics from her parents!
And with Billy he could still mourn, with as big as his heart has always been, and remember the daughter Mary was swapped with. He could still visit her grave, probably next to his parents’ with the name they gave her (because they’ll insist you name the child you lost to help mourn them) and feel bad for both couples. His parents for grieving someone else’s kid and holding that sadness until their deaths and the Bromfields for not even knowing their kid is buried by another family with a name they didn’t choose.
Making Mary the motherly older sibling of a foster home didn’t add anything, it took her out of the family adventures by having her go off to college quickly too. With Mary and Billy still being twins there is a different kind of sibling relationship there and the possibility for drama that people could eat up!
Idk if it’s just me who’d like to see these things focused on or the fun of these twins being magical siblings who love eachother despite their massed up origins the more you think about them but I want to see it

I got into shazam from the movie and I'd like to get into his comics but I have no idea where to start, do you have any recommendations?
Hello! There are a few different places to start with the Marvel/Shazam Family, and I’ll list them here in the order of what I think is the most to least likely to appeal to you, with some context about the different versions of Billy Batson so that you can make an informed choice.
The New 52/Rebirth Version
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This features the version of Billy Batson whose hero name is Shazam and who lives in the Vasquez household with Mary, Freddy, Darla, Eugene, and Pedro as his foster siblings, collectively known as the Shazam Family. He was first introduced in 2012 and is the current comics continuity version of the character.
You start with this version of the character with:
The Curse of Shazam! — This story was originally printed across back-ups in Justice League (2011), but it was later collected and can be found on its own under the name Shazam! (2013). This is the story that first introduced Billy Batson to the New 52 continuity and is his origin story as Shazam, as well as the story in which he first shared his power with his foster siblings. The 2019 Shazam! movie was a direct adaptation of it.
And you can follow that up with:
Shazam! (2018-2020) #1-15 — This ongoing series is a direct follow-up to the origin story, beginning one year after it, and features the whole Shazam Family. If you remember the teaser at the end of the 2019 Shazam! movie with Mr. Mind visiting Dr. Sivana in his prison cell and talking about taking over the magic lands, that was a reference to the plot of this series.
The General Good Recs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the good stand-alone stories that I’d recommend to anyone interested in getting started with comics Billy Batson. These issues cover a few different comics continuities, but all require no prior knowledge to read and understand.
Whiz Comics (1940) #2 — Billy Batson’s first ever appearance, this story covers his original origin story as Captain Marvel. The issue is in the public domain and is legal to read for free online and has been scanned in wonderful quality at the Digital Comic Book Museum.
Shazam! Power of Hope (2000) — Set in what is essentially a modernized version of the world of the original classic character, this graphic novel is themed around the character’s relationship to hope and features Captain Marvel volunteering his time at a children’s ward in a hospital.
The Multiversity: Thunderworld Adventures (2014) #1 — Set on Earth-5, also known as Thunderworld, which is another take on modernizing the classic world, this story features the Marvel Family versus the Sivana Family, who acquired similar powers to the Marvels, while Dr. Sivana has teamed up with other versions of himself from alternate realities in a scheme to take over the whole multiverse.
Convergence: Shazam! (2015) #1-2 — Set on Earth-S, which is the world of the original Captain Marvel who first appeared in the aforementioned Whiz Comics #2, this story starts off with the Marvel Family kids not having been able to transform for a year due to an impenetrable dome that’s covered Fawcett City, but according to a mysterious voice when the dome comes down the city will be forced to fight another city from another universe in order to survive.
The Post-Crisis Version
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This features the version of Billy Batson whose hero name is Captain Marvel and who lived on his own and supported himself and then was later adopted by the wealthy Bromfields who had already adopted his twin sister Mary. He works alongside Mary whose hero name is also Captain Marvel. (They shared the name in the 90s, then Mary later went by Mary Marvel in the 2000s.) The two of them sometimes work with their friend Freddy Freeman, who is known as either Captain Marvel Jr. or CM3. Collectively they are known as the Marvel Family.
You start with this version of the character with:
The Power of Shazam! (1994) — This is Billy’s modern origin story as Captain Marvel, and depicts him learning how to use his new powers and fighting his parent’s murderer Theo Adam, who had been protected by corrupt businessman Thaddeus Sivana, while Billy tries to continue to go to school hiding that he’s living on his own.
And you can follow that up with:
The Power of Shazam! (1995-1999) #1-47 — This ongoing series is a direct follow-up to the origin story and takes place 4 years after it, depicting Billy as a now more experienced hero who is better able to support himself than he was in the preceding graphic novel. The series also features both Mary and Freddy’s origin stories early on in the run.
The Pre-Crisis Version

This features the version of Billy Batson who had the ability to transform into the hero Captain Marvel, but Billy and Cap were distinct separate entities. Billy lived on his own and supported himself with his job as a radio broadcaster and Captain Marvel comics were a mix of superhero and boy reporter stories, with both of them being essential to each issue. For the most part, Captain Marvel appeared separately from Mary Marvel, who was Billy’s twin sister, and Captain Marvel Jr., their friend, as they all had their own comics, except for The Marvel Family (1945) #1-89 which featured their family team-ups.
Billy appeared by himself across Whiz Comics (1940) #2-155 and Captain Marvel Adventures (1941) #1-150, but I must recommend caution with these Golden Age comic books as many from this era contain racist caricatures (though the stories linked to here don’t). And I also recognize that many comic book fans aren’t particularly interested in comics from this era, though this is my personal favorite version of the character and I love these comics myself.
So the obligatory issues to start with from the Golden Age are:
Whiz Comics (1940) #2 — As I mentioned in the general good recommendations section, this is Billy Batson’s first ever appearance and origin story as Captain Marvel.
Whiz Comics (1940) #25 — This is Freddy Freeman’s first ever appearance and origin story as Captain Marvel Jr., in which he and his grandfather are attacked by Captain Nazi and Billy must share his power in order to save Freddy’s life.
Captain Marvel Adventures (1941) #18 — This is Mary Batson’s first ever appearance and origin story as Mary Marvel, in which Mary reunites with her long-lost brother Billy and then discovers that she too has the power of Shazam.
Then what I would actually recommend as comics starring this version of the characters that have broader appeal is:
The E. Nelson Bridwell and Don Newton run from the late 70s and early 80s — These comics were published by DC Comics after they had acquired the characters from Fawcett Comics and cover Shazam! (1973) #34-35, World’s Finest Comics (1941) #253-270 and 272-282, and Adventure Comics (1938) #491-492. These issues featured the whole family and were intended to update them with a more modern style of art and storytelling after the characters had been left largely unchanged since the Golden Age.
