bro kiryu is a terrible parent. he may be happiest when he's surrounded by the kids at the orphanage but what kind of genuine happiness has he given THEM? the dude provides them no stability and haruka is the one that actually looked after them the whole time while he runs off to fix up the tojo again and again. it's better that he stays away from them. even kiryu finally sees that. it's why he chose to do what he did at the end of 6. i hope he continues to leave them the hell alone.
park mirei is that you????
I really don’t think it’s that simple. I don’t think he’s a bad parent and I don’t think he’s a perfectly good one either. I think some of the things that make him a “bad” parent are actually his fault, while other things haven’t been, and are instead more of an inevitable product of the shady world him and haruka both were born into.
TLDR: it’s literally factually incorrect to say he didn’t/barely raised his kids and instead just left haruka to do it (most of 2007-2011 he was fully present and solely devoted to raising them, no other job, no other intentions), and he absolutely has done a lot for them and their happiness. however, he’s made some bad choices as well and has his fair share of flaws as a parent. most importantly, his past does tend to find him in one way or another regardless of what he does, which is not something that’s easy to solve. taking himself out of the picture hurts the kids tremendously, while staying in the picture potentially endangers/hinders the kids. I can’t say what the “right” thing to do would be, because it’s not black and white. all I can say for sure is that he did have an important and positive impact on their childhoods, and they care about him just as much as he cares about them.
(more in depth version below)
the idea that he hasn’t done anything for his kids and didn’t actually raise them is something I wholeheartedly disagree with and is just factually untrue. before he starts getting threatened and manipulated by various groups/people to get him to leave, for several years (most of 2007-2011) he was a caring parent who devoted all of his time and effort to raising those kids and it shows from how much they love and miss him when he’s gone, and in the personal problems he helps each of them with whenever he can in y3. On top of love in general, he provides them with stability, a sense of family and home, and helps some of the more traumatized kids regain the ability to trust and overcome survivor’s guilt. he’s responsible for the years of those kids’ lives they would almost undoubtedly all consider the best of their childhoods. “what kind of happiness has he given them?” a whole damn lot, frankly.
kiryu never goes back to deal with shit in the tojo clan fully voluntarily. it’s basically always because something is threatening the orphanage and the kids’ wellbeing, or because there are people he cares about in the clan, which makes for a lot of potential issues but– considering he’s not heartless and can’t just turn off the bonds he has with certain people– can’t be avoided, considering the closest people he had to family were yakuza/yakuza-adjacent, and cutting all of them (that he has left) off completely isn’t as easy as you make it seem. when daigo– who’s like a son to him in his own right– gets shot and very nearly dies in y3, no shit he’s gonna be concerned. and he’s deeply conflicted at first on what to do (or not do) about it. it’s really really really not as black and white as him being a good person or a bad person for being dragged back into clan ordeals– much of the time it’s not his fault at all. by all accounts he feels guilty and horrible for his past endangering the kids, and it’s a HUGE recurring theme/conflict that contributes heavily to his distancing in y5, and further distancing in y6.
HOWEVER. he has absolutely made some iffy choices and I’d never say he’s a perfect parent. for one, I definitely think haruka was allowed to be more parentified than she should’ve been– he needed the extra help, considering one adult raising that many kids isn’t easy, but he should’ve gotten that help via employing another adult (I was hoping mikiyo from y3 would do this, but he doesn’t get mentioned after y3 for whatever reason sadly), not relying on her for more responsibility than a kid should have.
moreover, despite her parentification, there’s several times where he makes huge decisions for haruka (and the kids in general to some extent) without her input / against her wishes, and recklessly puts himself in grave danger despite having kids who rely on him to take into consideration. it absolutely baffled me at the beginning of y6 to see that there wasn’t any real adult put in kiryu’s place while he was in prison, and that it’d just been the older kids seemingly who acted as caretakers for the household. that was a horrible oversight and I think he should’ve known better– yeah, he didn’t have much time to find someone to fill the role, but he was in contact with haruka and he could’ve had her get help from one of kiryu’s friends to find someone. there were definitely options and I’m not gonna make any excuses there. he’s not infallible, no doubt.
Shit gets really complicated when it comes to him leaving the way he does a number of times. He does it in the hopes that it protects the kids from his past that keeps springing up and endangering their futures, but the issue with this is that BECAUSE he did, in fact, lovingly raise these kids for the most fundamental years of their lives and become their father figure, ripping himself out of their lives can’t be good for them– especially considering they’re orphans who have already had parents ripped from their lives and undoubtedly have abandonment issues as it is. this is terribly complicated and doesn’t have a black or white answer at all– leaving them has the huge emotional repercussions I just mentioned, and staying potentially endangers them and their futures. there is no easy way to slice it, and even the best parent on earth would be torn if put in that scenario.
personally I can’t help but hope he gets to reunite with his family, as I know they’d want that as much as he would; but it’s for the best at this point that they don’t have to fully rely on him and him alone. kiryu needs other adults to lean on in his life, and so do the kids. I think the kids are capable of this– of building new bonds and broader support systems– but kiryu has got a ways to go.

TW// 18+, age gap (reader is early 20s, Eddie is 50s), oral (f receiving), fingering, unprotected sex (wrap it before you tap it), degradation, face slapping, creampie, let me know if i missed anything!!
It was your parents 25th wedding anniversary. They liked to make a big deal out of it every 5 years, throwing a big party and inviting as many people as they could. You never understood why they couldn’t just go out to dinner alone to celebrate instead of dragging you along to hang out with their old friends. But he made it all worth it.
Eddie Munson. Your dads friend from high school. He was kind of old sure, but he was damn sexy. He had the softest looking long curly brown hair, peppered with just the right amount of grey. The perfect amount of scruff around his face, messy yet neat at the same time. And his arms and chest littered with tattoos.
He played in a metal band that your dad was a part of shortly in college, until he decided he’d rather marry your mom and start a family. Bleh. You had watched all the videos of their shows when he was younger, and while you should’ve been impressed by your dads skills as a musician, you could never take your eyes off of Eddie.
He was still in the band, constantly in LA recording or touring the world. He always made time to visit you and your parents when he was back in Hawkins though. You hadn’t seen him in about 5 years, the last time being your high school graduation, when he could barely keep his eyes off of you. You thought since you were freshly 18 he would finally take you someplace to fuck you raw, but that might’ve just been wishful thinking.
In reality, he didn’t pay much attention to you when he visited. Nothing more than the usual “how have you been” or “how’s school going?”. But, that wasn’t going to stop you from continuing to try and get his attention.
You opted for a short black dress, probably showing a little more cleavage than you usually would, some high heeled boots, and a simple silver necklace. You were in the kitchen of the beach house your parents rented, fixing yourself a drink while you waited for the guests so trickle in.
“Honey, can you greet people at the door and take their coats?” You hear your mom call from the other room. You roll your eyes before taking a sip of your wine and making your way to the door.
You spend the next 30 minutes welcoming all of your parents friends, frustratingly having to answer the same questions over and over and using your best fake laugh to laugh at all of their dad jokes. You were just about ready to leave and scream in the bathroom until you saw the black mustang pull up. Eddie.
You fix you hair and push your boobs up a little more before he makes his way to the door. “Sweetheart.” He bows his head, making his way into the house.
“Eddie.” You do the same. You ask to take his jacket and hang it with the rest. You decide your door duty is over once Eddie arrives, following him into the house. “This is nice. Didn’t know your old man bought a new place.” He says looking around, taking in all the little details.
“Oh it’s not ours, they just rented it for the party. Always need to make a big deal out of their love.” You scoff.
Eddie chuckles, “Marriage is a big deal. You’ll find that out soon enough.”
“No thanks. Marriage is just a big money grab. Why can’t I just spend the rest of my life with the person I love without the governments involvement? Plus it’s harder to get divorced than it is to get married.” You respond.
“You’re a smart girl. What are you studying again?” He asks, genuinely interested.
“Psychology. I graduate in a couple months.” You smile proudly.
“Ah you gonna tug at my brain tonight?” He laughs.
This is your chance to make a move, you think to yourself. “I could tug at something else if you’d like.” You whisper, a smirk on your face.
Eddie coughs, clearing his throat. “Uh i’m gonna go say hi to your parents.” He practically runs away. You would’ve been embarrassed by your boldness if you hadn’t noticed the way his cheeks turned red and his legs shook at your words.
You take your place back in the kitchen, avoiding conversation with the large group of people. You hear footsteps behind you and turn to see Eddie grabbing a beer from the fridge.
“Can’t stand being out there any longer without at least one beer.” You chuckle, mumbling in agreement. “When did your parents become so prissy?”
“Oh you mean they haven’t always been like this?” You laugh. “Dad got a promotion a couple years ago so I guess he feels the need to impress them.”
“You should’ve seen him in college, when he was still in the band. He was wild.” Eddie laughs, recalling the memories.
“As wild as you?” You raise an eyebrow, cocking your head to the side.
Eddie’s cheeks turn red, “I’m not wild.”
“You expect me to believe that the man who’s been rocking girls panties off for the last 30 years isn’t a wild one?” You step closer to him, hearing how his breathing changes. “I’ve seen what those hands can do.”
“Hey… stop.” You know he only says it because he should, not that he really wants you to.
You wrap your hand around his neck, pulling his ear down to your mouth. “But i’m not wearing any panties.”
Eddie lets a soft moan escape his mouth before running off. “I need to use the restroom.” You’re left in the kitchen, giggling and smirking to yourself, waiting a couple minutes before following him.
You put your head up to the bathroom door, listening to him heavy breathing and muttering curse words under his breath. You open the door, locking it behind you.
“What the fuck?!” He whisper yells. “What are you doing?”
“Oh I thought that was an invitation. You know, tell the girl you’re going to the bathroom, she follows…” You jump up on the sink, spreading your legs a little wider. “And then the guy fucks her brains out on the sink.”
Eddie sucks in a sharp breath, trying his best not to look you in the eyes. “We shouldn’t be doing this.”
“But you want to, don’t you?” You jump off the sink, pulling him towards you. “Don’t think I forgot about the way you were looking at my tits at my graduation party. Or the way your eyes immediately went down to my thighs when I greeted you tonight. You’re a dirty old man, and I want to be your filthy… little… girl.” Your words send shivers down his spine.
“Fuck it.” He growls before pressing his lips against yours. His hands immediately reach for your hips, his fingers digging into them sure to leave marks tomorrow. You wrap your arms around the back of his head, pulling on his hair. He lets out a moan, and you take the opportunity to dip your tongue into his mouth.
He taste just like how you imagined. A mix of tobacco and mint, followed with a slight flavor of the beer he just drank. He removes his mouth from yours, moving down your neck, sucking on that sweet spot just behind your ear. His hands travel down to your ass, squeezing and slapping as he continues his assault on your neck.
You twirl your fingers in his hair, pushing him further into you as you feel the heat between your legs growing more and more intense. He backs you up until your back hits the sink, a whimper leaving your mouth. He lifts the bottom of your dress, exposing your naked cunt.
“Fuck. You weren’t lying.” You chuckle as he continues kissing and sucking your skin, moving further down your body. “You did this because you knew I was coming, huh? Or are you just that much of a whore?”
You moan at his words, loving the way he says it. “Oh you like that? Like when I call you a fucking whore?” You mumble an mm-hmm right as he reaches where you needed him the most. “God you have such a pretty pussy, baby. Mind if I have a little taste?”
“Please.” You whimper, and he dives right in. His tongue drags from your entrance, all the way up to your clit. “Fuck, Eddie.” You moan out as his tongue flicks back and forth.
He licks you up and down a few times before focusing on your clit. Attaching his mouth to your aching bud, and sucking it like it was his last meal. You couldn’t speak. It was like he took away your ability to form any kind of words. You’d never felt like this before, never gotten head like this before. He truly was a master, and not just when it came to music.
The filthy sounds of his tongue mixed with your own arousal was nearly enough to send you over the edge. You feel him bring his fingers up to your entrance, playing with it while gathering your wetness. He looks up at you, his mouth still on your cunt, looking for permission to keep going. You nod, and without another word he sinks two fingers into you.
“Oh my- fuck!” You scream out before bringing a hand to your mouth, not wanting to bring attention to what was happening in here. You feel him smile against your pussy, pushing his fingers in and out of you.
His fingers were thick enough, you had no idea how you were supposed to fit, what you assumed, was his even thicker cock. He continues to fuck you with his fingers, not relenting his attack on your clit. He moans into your pussy, sending even more vibrations of pleasure through you. He seemed to really enjoy eating your pussy. Maybe just as much as you were.
He starts to move his fingers faster, flicking his tongue across your clit searching for your orgasm. “Shit, Eddie- Eddie i’m gonna- fuck fuck fuck.” You can’t even make out a cognitive sentence with the pleasure you were feeling.
“Go ahead baby, cum for me. Cum on my face.” That was all you needed to hear before your legs were shaking, closing in on his head as yours was thrown back, cursing his name under your breath.
He keeps thrusting his fingers into you, softly to help you ride out your high. Once your breathing starts to regulate again, he pulls out, placing soft kisses on your thighs before moving up to your mouth. “You okay?” He asks, pecking your lips.
You nod, pulling him in for a deeper kiss. Placing your hand on the crotch of his jeans, you can feel just how much he enjoyed that. You palm at his rock hard cock through his pants, while he moans above you into the kiss.
“Can I suck you off?” You ask, continuing to press into him.
“Not gonna last. I need to be inside of you.” He moans, shuffling his pants off as quickly as possible, and you realize that you didn’t have to assume his size anymore. He was big. The biggest you’ve ever seen. Thick too. If you had to picture the perfect dick, he had it.
“Jesus christ.” You mumble, earning a chuckle from him. He spits into his hand, stroking his cock to prepare himself.
“Can I see your tits?” He asks, but doesn’t wait for an answer. He pulls the straps of your dress off, nearly tearing them, and pushes the top of your dress down so that it’s sitting on your waist. “Oh my god, we’re you created by the gods or something?”
“I was created by your best friend.” You smirk, reminding him of who exactly he was about to fuck.
He groans, twisting his eyebrows up. “Don’t remind me.” He places his hands on your tits, rubbing and squeezing them in circles before catching one in his mouth.
You place your hand on the back of his head as he licks and sucks on your nipple, his hand playing with the other before switching places. Once he’s has enough, he steps back, grabbing onto his cock and sliding it up and down your folds.
“Ready?” He asks as you nod furiously. He slides just the tip in, testing the waters. You wince as he stretches you open. It hurts only for a moment, but the earlier tongue fucking definitely helped you get used to it quicker.
He pushes more of his length in, an inch at a time until his balls hit the back of your ass. “Shit you’re so fucking tight. Could bust right now.” He moans before pulling out slightly, and pushing back in.
You grab onto his biceps for leverage as he picks up the pace. You pull him closer to you, pushing his hair to one side while your lips find his neck. He groans at the feeling, grabbing the back of your neck as he rapidly begins thrusting in and out of you.
“Oh my god- that’s it, fuck. Feels so good.” You moan in his ear. The sound of skin slapping fills the room, along with each of your moans. He moves his hands down to your hips, using them to fuck you back into him.
“Who would’ve thought my best friends daughter would be such a filthy fucking whore? Sucking my cock into her pussy like this? God you feel so fucking good on my cock like this.” His words continue to egg you on. You can’t say anything other curse words followed by moans of pleasure as he fucks into you.
You start to feel your high approaching again, embarrassingly quick and he takes notice. He pulls your head into his, pressing your forehead against his. “You gonna cum for me again? Gonna drench my fat cock with your cum? Hmm, baby?” You moan in response, but it’s not enough for him. “Use your words, tell me how good i’m making you feel right now.”
You still can’t find the words, and that’s when you feel a sharp slap across your cheek. “Say. It.” He growls, his thrusts speeding up as his thumb takes place on your clit. He rubs perfect circles on your clit while awaiting a response before slapping his palm across your cheek once again. “What the fuck did I just tell you? Say it.”
“Feels so good Eddie. Love the way your cock fills my pussy, gonna make me cum- fuck!” Your body goes limp as your second orgasm crashes over you. Eddie picks you up by your ass, moving your body against the bathroom door.
“That’s right, dirty slut loves the way I feel inside of her.” His body is keeping you up against the door as he continues to fuck into you with a hurried speed, chasing his own high. “How would she feel if I filled her up with my cum?”
All you can muster is a moan, receiving another slap across the face. “Use your fucking words.”
“Yes please Eddie, fill me up. Cum in me. I wanna feel you, please please please.” The overstimulation is almost getting to be too much as you feel a tear slide down your face.
Although, it doesn’t last long as he gives you a couple more hard thrusts before you feel his seed coating your walls. “Fuuuck.” He moans out, his head falling into your neck.
He stills for a moment, relishing in the feeling of his own orgasm before lifting his head to kiss you. He wipes your tears away before slowly sliding out of you and placing you back on your feet.
“You’re something else.” He laughs, pulling his pants back up.
“So are you.” You smile, fixing your dress. “Who knew old dudes like you could fuck so good?”
He shoots you a look, making you giggle. “Don’t tell your parents about this.”
You furrow your eyebrows and scoff. “Yeah let me just go down there and let them know their best friend just fucked the shit out of their daughter.” He laughs before exiting the bathroom and returning downstairs to the party.
You wait a couple minutes to follow him, not wanting to be suspected of anything. You make your way to your dad, hoping she didn’t notice that you and Eddie went missing.
“There you are honey. Oh what happened to your dress?” You look down, noticing the tear in your strap. You look over at Eddie, seeing the biggest smirk on his face as he sips his beer.
“Must’ve torn it this morning putting it on.” You respond, avoiding eye contact.
“Well you should go out a jacket on, make yourself look a little put together please.”
You sigh, walking away. “Yes daddy.”
You walk past Eddie as he grabs you arm, whispering in your ear. “Yes daddy.”

HI MY BEAUTIFUL 🐚ANON!! I adore this so much, I adore YOU so much, as always, your requests are everything!!
Warnings: So so much fluffy fluff, angst if you really squint till your eyes go cross-eyed and blurry
-
"It's been decades. Not even a couple years. Almost a century. You probably shoot dust. Or whatever your bionic ass reproduces with"
Bucky contemplated throwing his half finished milkshake at Sam's head while they both scarfed down burgers from a late night diner after a taxing mission. Sam was pestering Bucky yet again about his nonexistent social and lack of a love life, a topic he seemed to get high off of.
“For fucks sake Sam-”
"You need to get out more man, at least start dating. You don't need a whole girlfriend but a few dates wouldn't kill you. Or maybe it would, since you're what, 106?"
Bucky groaned, rubbing a hand over his face, his patience wearing thin. Dating wasn’t for him, not because he didn’t want to date but because he wasn’t sure who would even date him. He’d only just gotten comfortable talking to Sam though he’d never openly admit he actually enjoyed their conversations. He wasn’t exactly the most approachable, Peter had once told him he had a resting bitch face, whatever that meant. He wasn’t the most tech savvy unless it involved doing something illegal. He had a plethora of devices that could take down the US government at the push of a button he secrecy hoarded under his bed but God forbid someone ask him to pose for their Instagram story.
Talking to a pretty girl was a completely different story. What would he even talk about? His time before the war involved a lot of nursing an injured or sick Steve back to health. After the war and his time in Hydra, he didn’t really have time for himself. He liked plums. The hobbit. He was thinking about getting a cat. Bucky internally groaned, maybe he’d find a girlfriend at the retirement home down the street; at least they’d have things in common.
Sam cocked an eyebrow while Bucky narrowed his eyes at him. Usually he’d respond with a grumpy pout or complete silence but today his exhaustion had caught up with him. He debated on how to get Sam of his back, a dim, flickering, half broken bulb going off in his sleep deprived brain.
"I already have a girlfriend Tweety bird"
The deafening silence that followed that statement made it clear both men were aware that was a lie. Sam snorted, shaking his head while they both finished they food, slapping a $50 on the counter before leaving. He looked at the super soldier, deciding not to press into the issue further for the night but he definitely wasn’t going to let it go that easily.
5:30 AM
The buzz of his phone jolted him awake, the faint sound of the TV still playing in the background. Bucky felt around for his phone, tossing his sheet off, sitting up from his place on the floor seeing Sam’s caller ID light up the screen.
“What are you doing next Saturday” Sam sounded unusually chipper, a hint of a smirk in his voice, a suspicious amount of enthusiasm for such an early hour.
“Why” Bucky groaned, rubbing sleep from his eyes, going back to lying down.
“Were having a cookout over the weekend, you should come”
“You woke me up to tell me what could have been a text message?” Bucky asked incredulously, closing his eyes, ready to let sleep free him from such a ridiculous conversation.
“Ooo, white panther knows how to text now”
“White Wolf” Bucky grumbled, regretting every telling Sam the name he had been given in Wakanda. “I’ll come if you just let me go back to sleep”
"Alright, but bring your girl too"
There it was.
He could feel the shit eating grin Sam was giving him over the phone, eye brows wigging up and down, all his perfect teeth out.
“Whatcha say Barnes?”
Sleep had disappeared into thin air as Bucky shot up, mentally kicking himself for the nonsense he’d gotten himself into. He fiddled with the corner of his sheet, hoping to find an out.
"I thought you only invited family"
"Hey, anyone that you're allowing within 3 feet of your personal space might as well be considered family" Sam snorted, not believing a single word Bucky had said the night before. The conversation moved on to a different topic, easing some of Bucky’s nerves. A whole hour had passed and Bucky was sure he was in the clear until-
“Back to the matter at hand, you bringing her or not?”
“Why are you like this, does being Captain America always come with the caveat with also being a pain in my ass, I’m not going to-”
Bucky was about to refuse until a knock at the door pulled him away from the conversation, the scent of fresh pancakes wafting through the door. He pulled himself up, a smile tugging on his lips, knowing exactly who was on the other side, not needing to check as he untangled himself from the sheets.
His sweet neighbor.
Bucky wasn’t religious and he wasn’t a big believer in a higher power but there had to be something out there when people like you existed. Whenever Sam asked him why he stayed in the dingy little apartment that barely had windows and a closet for a bedroom, he’d insist it was because he preferred a small space and was still getting used to living a normal life so he wasn’t ready for another move just yet.
The part he always left out was that his dingy apartment came with an absolute angle that lived next door. Kind hearted. Sweet. An absolute darling. You were one of the first people he’d interacted with when he moved in. All the nerves he had about living alone and growing accustomed to a regular life melted away the first day, when you came over with a plate of fresh cookies.
He felt like a little boy whenever you were around, having the biggest crush on the prettiest girl on the playground, his mind going to mush whenever you smiled at him. But it wasn’t a crush. Nope. No....? No. He narrowed his eyes at himself before making his way to the door.
“Buck? Did your tongue rust-”
“I’ll uh-I’ll think about it” He mumbled before cutting the call, a bashful smile on his face as he unhooked the chain and swung the door open. “G’morning doll”
“Good Morning” You grinned, handing Bucky the plate which he gratefully accepted, his stomach rumbling between the butterflies that fluttered in his tummy. “I heard you get in last night, didn’t think you’d have time to do a grocery run or cook anything” You handed him a bag of fruits and vegetables, two of those bags full of plums. His favorite.
“You didn’t have to do all this” If his cheeks grew any warmer he would’ve sworn he was running a fever. And he didn’t get fevers.
“You’re out saving the world, I think getting you a few groceries is the least I could do. So, how’s the new Captain?” You had never met Sam in person but hearing enough stories from Bucky told you all you needed to know. No one else was better suited to take on the shield than him.
“A pain in my ass even if he means well” Bucky smiled shaking his head to himself. “He’s been pestering me to get out more...start dating” He mumbled the last part, wincing. He’d fought off aliens, gone to battle alongside a tree and a talking raccoon, survived being help captive by Hydra but being boyfriend material? His flirting game was as strong as pre serum Steve's right hook.
“Well, handsome solider like you, shouldn’t be too hard to find you a date” You felt your own face heat up as soon as the words left your mouth but wasn’t like it was a secret. There was no way he would have had trouble in the dating department; aside from being one of the most beautiful people you’d laid your eyes on he was also the sweetest. Bucky was nothing but a gentleman and with a pure and soft heart and if you didn’t get your shit together and control the way he made you weak in the knees-
“Not the same ladies man I was in the 40′s doll” He chuckled, blue eyes sparkling at your compliment, “Either way, I got myself into a mess with that” He smiled sheepishly while you cocked your head, urging him to continue.
“Well, I sort of lied to get him off my case” Bucky blushed, rubbing the back of his head, his the pink on his cheeks deepening at your cheeky smile. “I-I told him I already have a girlfriend but as you can see-” Bucky waved into his empty apartment that showed no signs of human life, “-it back fired immediately because he's invited my nonexistent girlfriend to a cookout this weekend. In Louisiana. With all his family. And friends”
Bucky let his head hit the wall with a dull thump, cursing himself for putting a foot in his mouth. Sure he could just come clean and say he lied. But that would mean admitting he lied and that was worse because then Sam would give him shit for that, plus try to get him out more and-
“What if- what if I went with you?” Bucky’s head shot up, blinking in surprise at your words, wondering if he heard you correctly. “I could pretend to be your girlfriend for a day, get Cap off your case. Only if you’re comfortable with it though”
“Really? You’d do that?” You giggled at his lost puppy expression, his eyes lighting up when he realized you were being serious.
“Of course” You smiled sincerely,  “I’d be happy to! Just let me know what time to be ready at and I’ll be all yours”
All his.
The little boy in his was running around in circles, his heart beating too fast for the rest of his body to keep up. The thought of you being his girlfriend for a day was more than he could ever dream of. Of course it was only pretend and he’d wouldn’t dare push for more; not when you deserved the world. At the very least, he wouldn’t have to deal with Sam’s nagging.
Problem solved.
*****
This was a bad idea.
A bad, bad idea.
Bucky had gone through at least 4 outfits, debating between an array of Henley’s, before settling on a blue one when he remembered you complimented it because it was blue like his eyes. He picked up his razor and then immediately put it down when he remembered you once said you liked the scruff on him.  Even if this was just pretend, every single part of him was on edge as if this were a real date. As soon as his enhanced hearing picked up your soft footsteps padding down the hall, he was right by the door, nervously chewing his lip.
Bucky blinked, his heart nearly giving way at 106 years old when he saw you make your way down the hall towards his apartment. You were in a flowery sundress, with a large cakebox in hand, your sweet perfume already making him dizzy. If Sam didn’t kill him for lying, the crush he had on you would be the next thing to take him out.
"You-you look beautiful"  And sweet. And adorable. And delectable.
An angel.
You looked like an angel.
"Thank you, you look good too Sarge" You looked down at Bucky’s chest instead of meeting his eyes, unable to look at his pretty face. His adorable face. Handsome face. That dimple on his chin. Blue eyes. Pink lips. Fuck, you had such a big crush on him.
It was going to be an interesting day.

Bucky parked the car at Sam’s place, which wasn’t too far from the lake where everyone had gathered. Part of him was almost sad they had made it on time; the car ride over with you ending faster than he’d liked.
“He wasn’t kidding when he said he only invited family” Bucky snorted, seeing all of Sam’s relatives there along with his closest neighbors, many of whom he’d met before. He took the cakebox from you, slipping his hand into yours, smiling when you gave him a reassuring squeeze. You both made your way over, hand in hand, your heart skipping a beat each time someone greeted Bucky, every single person over joyed that he’d finally met someone to call his.
He made his way over to the grill where Sam filliped a few burgers; the new Cap grinning when he saw you both. There was no missing the sparkle in his eyes when he looked down to your hand in Bucky’s, noting you were was holding his metal one, no longer covered by gloves.
Interesting.
“You’re lookin’ good” Sam wiggled his eyebrows at Bucky, loving the way the soldier rolled his eyes, trying to brush off the way his cheeks were dusted pink.
“This is y/n, my girlfriend” Girlfriend. Bucky loved the way it rolled off his tongue with ease, not feeling an ounce of hesitance. The word previously feeling so foreign to him now felt so natural when he had you by his side. And holding your hand. And hearing your laugh. And-
Relax Bucky, it’s just for a day.
“I’m Sam, and it’s very nice to meet you” He pulled you into a hug, still curiously eyeing Bucky, genuinely unable to figure out where he’d managed to find a sweetheart like you.
“Thank you for the invite” you giggled as he gave you a light squeeze before letting you go, inspecting the cakebox Bucky handed to him. He grinned at the fresh strawberries that decorated the cake, shamelessly plucking one off and popping it into his mouth. “Strawberry shortcake. A little white wolf told me it was your favorite”
“Well if the big bad wolf likes you then I like you cause he doesn’t like anybody. You must be special” Sam mused, a part of him wanting to be skeptical but there was nothing, absolutely nothing made up about the Bucky was looking at you. He gazed down at you as if you’d hung the moon and stars right in his room, an utterly lovesick puppy. You felt your cheeks heat up, burying your face into Bucky’s side while he chuckled, pulling you closer to him and pressing a kiss on top of your head. Damn right, she’s special.
You both made your way over to mingle with the rest of the crowd, have no trouble at all playing the role of an utterly in love boyfriend and girlfriend. Bucky didn’t miss a single chance to press little kisses on your cheeks, every so often pecking your nose. His hand never left your waist, always holding you close to him, his face occasionally buried into the crook of your neck.
You played your part almost better than he did, gushing over what a gentleman he always was to you, stayed tucked by his side, nuzzling under his chin, occasionally actually getting lost in his soft scent of laundry detergent, his cologne and something distinctly him. You made the elderly ladies giggle and blush each time Bucky did something adorable, proudly showing you off to everyone.
He didn’t even let you eat without being the most perfect doting boyfriend. You’d both served your plates, finding a nice spot to sit under a shady tree; Bucky sat on the large lawn chair, secretly happy there was only one. You were about to walk off to get another when he tugged your wrist and pulling you back.
“C’mere, I wont bite” Bucky grinned, surprised with himself as he pulled you onto his lap with ease. You let out a squeak, your nose bumping against his as you plopped onto him, lips nearly brushing his.
“Smooth, Barnes. Remind me again, how you don’t have a girlfriend” You let out a breathless laugh, screaming to yourself on the inside that this was fake. He was playing the role perfectly, that was all. So fucking perfectly.
Why was he so perfect.
Bucky smirked, kissing your shoulder, letting you relax against his chest, wondering if you’d feel his heart hammering against his ribcage from how flustered he actually was. He easily maneuvered you so you sat comfortably across his thighs, his arm still securely around your waist.
When was he ever this smooth.
If anyone else was this close, he’s run for the hills, but now he was contemplating tossing you over his shoulder and running to Sam’s house, the guest bedroom was upstairs and two doors to the right-
“Well I’ll be damned, he really does have a girlfriend” Sam shook his head while Joaquin snorted, both men looking at you and Bucky with heart eyes while they sipping their beers from the docks.
“You think they’re faking?” Joaquin nudged Sam’s shoulder, watching Bucky now fed you a piece of cake, still keeping you on his lap, sneakily kissing the cream from the corner off your lips between bites. You’d giggle every time, feeding him a strawberry, squealing when he’s playfully bite your fingers.
“You can fake a lot of things but not the way he’d blushing and giggling like a toddler in a candy store” Bucky played with your fingers, intertwining them with his hand, his nose scrunching as he laughed at something you said.
“It’s nice to see him like this” Joaquin had seen grumpy Bucky, grouchy Bucky, angry Bucky, scary Bucky, sleepy Bucky, just about every Bucky on the planet, but this? This was a first. Love struck Bucky. Charming Bucky. Happy Bucky. Simpy Bucky. Sappy Bucky. Giggly Bucky. Playful biting Bucky. Ready to get down on one knee if you’d let him, Bucky.
“Steve always said he was a charmer, he wasn’t lying”
They couldn’t take their eyes off the way the corner of Bucky’s eyes crinkled each time he smiled or the way you’d instinctively lean into him when he spoke. He’d tuck your hair away from your face, his hands lingering on your cheek for a second longer, giving them a glimpse of the man from the 40′s before the war,  youthful and innocent, his heart full of hope, a smirk that would make his best girl swoon; the both of you in your own little world.
“He looks happy”
Sam had seen people look happy before. They’d smile but their eyes would be empty. They’d laugh but their voices were hollow. They’d look like they were on top of the world while sitting at rock bottom. The way Bucky’s eyes sparkled, his boyish laugh, the way he’d nuzzle into you, trying to be closer to you than physically possible, was more than just looking happy.
“He is happy”
Bucky had completely forgotten about pretending with you, lost in how perfectly you fit in his arms. You had taken up your role very seriously, telling him how utterly handsome he was, never missing moment to peck his scruffy cheek or card your fingers through his short soft locks. You intertwined you fingers with his vibrainium ones, busing your lips against his cool knuckles.
At some point in the afternoon, he’d slipped his jacket off and wrapped you up with it as evening crept around the corner. Not a single person doubted the nature of your relationship; at least four of Sam’s uncles had told Bucky to propose soon.
You don’t meet a girl who makes you this damn giggly just anywhere, Sergeant. Hold onto her.
****
Just when he thought he couldn’t fall for you more, you had fallen asleep in his arms, contently snuggled up in his jacket as the sunset over the lake. Most of Sam’s family had gone back home, a few close relatives still hanging around the boat, sipping on coffee. Bucky couldn’t help but wrap his arms around you, softly kissing your forehead; he could get used to this. Cuddling up with you after date nights. Hearing your laugh. The softness of your lips. The way your hand always found itself in his metal one without hesitation.
Fuck he wished this was real.
You stirred slightly, a content sigh slipping past your lips at the feel of his kiss. Nothing felt more comfy than being wrapped up by the super soldier, his solid arms holding you close. You didn’t want to wake up, wishing you could sleep forever if it meant you’d be this close to Bucky all the time. The day felt like a dream; the exact dreams you had when you thought about your sweet neighbor. How it’d be for him to call you yours. To Be his girl. To make him smile. To make him laugh.
If only it wasn’t just for a day.
“You have a nice nap, baby?” Bucky smirked as you blinked awake, stretching on his lap like a cat before snuggling against him again. “My pretty girl”
“Why wouldn’t I when my boyfriend is the comfiest spot to sleep on?” You teased, bringing your hand up to toy with the chain of his dog tags. Bucky chuckled, tilting your chin up to meet his eyes, kissing your nose. There was no one around you both, though neither of you seemed interesting in dropping the act just yet.
“You fit perfectly here, doll” He grinned, blushing when he hesitantly pulled you a little closer, your arms moving to wrap around his shoulders, resting on the back of his neck.
“I think I like it here” You sucked in a breath as he rested his forehead against yours, bringing his hand to cup your cheek. His nose gently bumped against yours, his warm breath tickling your lips.
“Me too” He closed the gap between you both, pressing his lips to yours sweetly, savoring every bit of your softness. He couldn’t help but deepen the kiss as you parted your mouth letting his tongue lace with yours while your hand made its way through his hair, tugging on his short locks. Bucky let out a groan, letting his hands drop to your waist, kissing you for as long as he could until you both needed oxygen.
“Maybe we can pretend for a little longer?” Bucky broke away, panting, his forehead still pressed against yours. You giggled between breaths, peppering kisses across his face.
“Just a little longer?”
“Maybe- maybe forever?” He looked at you with his classic puppy eyes, his heart bursting when you pulled him in for another kiss; forever. Forever sounded good.
A few years later
“So, you finally gonna admit I made this happen?” Sam whispered while Bucky snorted, shaking his head.
“Not gonna happen”
“C’mon, I made this happen, I caused this”
“You caused chaos”
Sam scoffed in fake offence, taking a sleepy Becca from Bucky’s arms while the soldier went to go check on you. “Now when do I get to meet my second God child?”
“In a few hours” Bucky stretched before making his way back to your room, smiling at your resting form. He carefully laid down beside you, letting his hand splay across your tummy; in just a few more hours there would be a little Samuel Grant Barnes in the world.
“We’re really good at pretending” You murmured, make Bucky chuckle, taking your hand in his and kissing the ring that sat on your finger.
“Maybe just one more baby after this? Really convince them, Mrs. Barnes?”
*
“Uncle Sam, tell me a bedtime story?” Becca pouted, having been at the hospital for hours, giving Sam the exact same face Bucky gave you. Her little bottom lip jutting out, big (y/c/e) eyes blinking up at him. He grinned, settling her on his lap before he made a thinking face before asking what she’d want to hear.
“What kinda story, Beccs, an animal story, a super cool falcon story or Captain America story or a flying Falcon Captain America story?”
“The chaos daddy said you caused” She giggled while Sam nodded, taking a deep breath before starting.
“It all started when your daddy said he had a girlfriend...”

Guys don’t let spoilers for new eps rattle you. We’re closer to Buddie now than we have ever been. Just have to let the story play out.
Remember these things:
They’re not really pushing B/T in the press they’re doing for the show. Like sure they’ve talked about them but go read all the articles and watch the interviews T*mmy is being talked about more as a mentor figure for Buck and not a long term love interest.
The show has very deliberately connected Buck’s bi awakening including B/T to Eddie and compared T*mmy to Eddie.
They’ve literally with dialogue pointed out Buck wanted Eddie’s attention twice (once when Buck was talking to Maddie after the game and once when T*mmy says “my attention” a clear indication he knew Buck wanted Eddie’s attention).
They’ve full on paralleled B/T scenes and Buddie scenes (call Eddie/call T*mmy)
Buck was talking about how great Eddie is moments before T*mmy kissed him.
Eddie was the character they chose to have crash Buck’s first date with a guy. They chose to have it be where Eddie announces that Marisol is moving in and after the date was over and ended badly the main thing Buck focused on wasn’t T*mmy it was the fact he lied to Eddie.
They’ve made it a point to say in interviews that Buck isn’t going to be having any more one on one coming out scenes this season. Yet they had both of Buck’s important coming out scenes involve Eddie. Buck ends up coming out to Maddie because he’s talking about the date and how he’s upset he lied to Eddie. They also had some very deliberate dialogue when Maddie said “I just think maybe you’re not sure of your own feelings yet. And if there’s something you need to tell Eddie you will. In your own time.”
They devoted a whole intense scene to Buck coming out to Eddie including with a hug.
They keep promoting Buddie in interviews and the press and almost all of the promo videos and pics this season have included them. They’ve also had Ryan and Oliver front and center during the press early on and both seem excited about Buddie’s storyline together this season.
They’ve even made Maddie and Chim’s wedding about Buddie to a large degree. All the promos for it are 98% Buddie. They’re also wearing a couples costume, partying with drag queens, and being more physically close than we’ve ever seen them be. Remember this is also happening at an event we saw Buck invite T*mmy to and we know Eddie has a gf who should presumably be his +1.
Marisol has barely been in this season. We don’t really know her as a person or even her last name. We don’t even know how a relationship between her and Eddie functions because we’ve barely seen them together. The one ep Marisol was heavily featured in the show treated her more like a punchline than a fully fleshed out character and certainly not like a long term love interest to a main character.
They’ve already had Eddie talking about how he’s a nester this season. But they also had a very emotional scene where Chris talks about Shannon and how everyone leaves. Eddie having Marisol move in with him so quick (even if she did move back out) just proves he’s repeating old patterns. He’s looking to replace Shannon in his life and for Chris. Instead of looking at what he has and what he wants.
Also remember that Ryan was included with all the other cast members who play queer characters on that episode of Family Feud that’s likely to air during pride month.
I know a lot of people are nervous about what the show is going to do with Buddie but remember there is more incentive for them to make Buddie canon now than ever before. They’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback especially in the press from Buck’s bi storyline. Tim and Ryan and Oliver and the rest know how much people want to see Buddie happen and how much attention they will garner the show when it does. They’re in the perfect position to finally move these characters in that direction and I think they are slowly and steadily. We just have to be patient. We’re likely to have parts of the story suck as we get closer to Buddie but it will be worth it in the end.

diary of a mad black woman
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’m totally not projecting in this /hj. buuuuuut, i love love love the movie: diary of a mad black woman. probably the best piece of fiction tyler perry has created. but, i hope you enjooooy!!
cw: toji is an asshole (mb…), you’re gonna be kind of a bitch too if you squint, relationship issues, infidelity issues (on both sides), an established relationship coming to an end, you’re not getting back with him….. (sorry not sorry), uhh y/n is black woman coded (hii ting at the title). lemme know if i forgot anything !!!!
Tumblr media
five long, draining years.
five years ago..you married toji right after you two graduated. don’t worry, your clan didn’t sell you. marrying toji is what you wanted to do. only god knew how bad of a decision you were
toji fushiguro, had his owns dreams and aspirations. ones that most possibly didn’t involve you whatsoever, but you forced yourself into them. the first year was just fine, it was like you were laying on cloud nine.
that was until you were pushed off that cloud.
he moved you away from your home. he wanted to “forget about the past” he said, and leave everything behind. and that included your own family..you didn’t know how long it had been since you last heard their voices. now you were isolated, and that only made things worse cause toji knew what sort of power he had over you now.
you did anything in your power to stay in his vision. whether that was dealing with his manipulative behavior, or even his infidelity..you sticked around.
cause you loved him??
or cause you didn’t have anyone else to go to?
weird, cause then you got kicked out of your own home and he got a divorce. he packed all your shit in a truck and replaced you for some hooker. bet enough booger sugar and lube got her to stay. you drove that truck back over to your grandmothers house…who almost shot you since it was the middle of the night. you got over it after a few months. got a job, made friends, reconnected with family..even your mother, and maybe even found some newfound love.
that’s until toji got injured and he was temporarily paralyzed. the hooker he wanted so badly wanted to leave him for dead, but you..were still legally his wife. so you made the last call.
to keep him alive.
as you sat there, thinking about picking up the pieces of what used to be your life..you realized something. every room in this place that you used to call home held a painful memory for you. even though toji’s suffering…something in you wants him to suffer even more. few months in a divorce can take a person through just as many emotions as five years in a marriage. oh, and you’re starting to feel all of them at once.
but the one that is clear…is rage.
now here you were, in your old home, in the office looking for old bill files for him. while he sat in his wheelchair…quietly.
shuffling through the stake of papers, you started to shake your head. “i don’t see it..”
toji’s head perked up, “you don’t see it?” he repeated, in somewhat of a mocking tone..
“no.”
he scoffed, “you really are good for nothing.” here he goes again. “find my bank statement and get the accountant on the phone.”
you looked up from the stack of papers and looked up at him. into those dead cold eyes, those eyes that used to give you so much love..but now…they just give you a whole lotta hurt.
“then call somebody, anybody and you can leave.” toji motioned down to the wheelchair he was sitting it. “this, is not gonna beat me.”
“oh really?” you’re tone was cold, ice cold. you were watching a grown man, that was fully capable of finding his own bank statements, throw a fit cause you couldn’t find it.
his legs were paralyzed, not his fucking arms.
“yea, and whatchu staring at?”
“you get stabbed in the spine, and you’re still the same.”
“i am who i am, and im gonna die that way. toots.” toji gave you a dirty, damn near disgusting look as he looked you up and down. “i don’t even know why you’re here, i’m not givin’ you shit. matter fact, where are my kids?”
“you done, toji?”
“yknow what bitch, just get out.”
you could feel your jaw clenched up when he said that.
he pinched the bridge of his nose, “i ask you to do one simple thing, and you can even do that after five— get out!”
you dropped the papers that were in your hands, you got up from the rather comfortable leather seat. grabbed your things from off the desk and proceeded to take your exit back home quietly.
but then you stopped.
who the hell is he? the man who hasn’t dont anything but hurt you. and now…you were about to let him keep doing exactly that? keep letting him control you like some toy. nah…that ain’t gon slide. before you could even think about it, your arm swung forward then swung back..the back of your hand connecting with toji’s face.
you turned yourself back around and leaned down to face him, placing your hands on the arm rest of the wheelchair..practically caging him in.
“let me explain something to you.” your tone of voice was sick, nasty. it was damn near like you were spitting pure vemon. “old y/n..is gone. and you will not talk to me like that.”
“now i came here..to help you. but now, i’m here to get even.”
“y/n, you—”
“shut up!” your yell echoed through the quiet home, the rain outside just barely being able to heard over it.
“you want your whore..” you walked over and grabbed the picture of toji and his little hooker..that was framed in a pretty little frame. “and your damn kids?”
you raised your arms up and threw the picture onto the ground, shattering the frame. “do you see what you left me for?!” you bend down and quickly picked up the picture, shoving it in toji’s face.
“this..is what you left me for!”
you started to rip the picture to shreds right in front of him, letting the loose parts fall to the floor. “she didn’t give a damn ‘bout you toji, she told them to let you die.!”
you walked back over by the desk, using your arms to sweep the top of it clean..everything falling on the floor, some of it even breaking.
“and yknow what’s funny? hm?” a condescending smile grew on your face. “i fucking gave you life boy, even though you took it from me.”
you’ve never seen toji so quiet and still before for how long you’ve known, but oh, that didn’t mean you were about to let up. you grabbed a play bat that was sitting on the floor..
“ya kids..your boys.” you swung the plastic bat and hit toji in the head. “i wanted children toji! and had you not been a public sex-stop, we would have them!”
you backed away and anger started to consume you. it showed in your face, your body movement, even in the way your heart was racing. you didn’t know if this felt good or not..
“got me all stressed out, my hair fallin’ out, my weight up ‘n down, can’t keep anything down! two miscarriages! you took life from me, and you never even said ‘i’m sorry’..”
was that it? the end of your rant.
hell nah, you walked out of that office. and you let toji sit there alone for a few days. when you can back it smelt rancid.
“god..” you groaned and covered your nose. walking up behind him. “ya smell like shit.”
you grabbed the handle bars and started to walk, then you started to run towards the bathroom.
“y/n. hell are doing?” toji asked, a bit afraid (that’s a new one.)
you ignored his concerns, barging through the bathroom doors to reveal a tub filled with water and a little bit of bubbles.
“y/n, stop—!”
the wheelchair hit the edge and toji was flipped over into the water. you pushed the wheelchair back and watched him, in silence for a bit.
“bathe him, feed him, clothe him..they say.” you say on the edge of the bathtub just watching him. “what bout me, huh? and jesus, stop lookin’ like an idiot.”
you begin to light a cigarette while toji just laid in the slightly cold water. “you try and..kick me out of our house, and keep me away from our money? hell nah. fuck nah, at that.”
you looked back over to see that toji’s head was started to submerge under the water. you quickly got up, dropped your cigarette in the water, and practically dragged toji back up to the surface.
“remember toji, i was there..when all you had was me.”
you stepped out of the tub and left him there.
later, you both sat at the oddly long dinner table. you on one side, and toji on the other. weird thing was you had a plate with a salad on it, and toji? he didn’t have a thing in front of him.
meanwhile, you were eating like it was the best salad you had ever had.
suddenly, toji had..started to cry? “y/n..”
your eyes perked up, “awe, you hungry?”
maybe he was. but who fucking cared? “hm..maybe you should go into the kitchen and get yourself something to eat then hm?” the smile on your face was brutal
“christina..” toji quietly cried out.
you looked over your shoulder, confused. “christina?!” you looked back over at the pitiful man in front of you..trying to hold back to boiling laughter. “christina’s gone…”
you smiled wildly, “your little tramp didn’t have any money to her so she left.” looking back down at your plate using your fork to pick up for more food. “just like your slut.”
“she packed all her shit, and some of yours toji fushiguro..and went on her merry way.” you started to laugh. “come to think of it..she cleaned out your bank account. all of it!”
“oh, sweetheart, you tried to keep from me? and she ended up taking it all..huh?!” you started to laugh even harder, throwing your head back and slamming your fist on to the table.
this was even better then therapy.
“toji..you are like soooo many men.” you paused to get a good look at him. “you’d rather lay with dogs then make it work with a women.”
“you’re a bitch ass, toji..a coward.”
you forcefully pushed your plate of food, sending it flying across the table towards toji. it ended up landing on his lap and some fell onto the floor. but you sure as hell weren’t gonna pick it up, you got up and went upstairs to go to sleep.
toji ended up getting better, and you let all your anger out on him..later forgiving him. you took that divorce as a blessing, the thing you used to see as curse. he still loved you, but you didn’t love him the same. you didn’t want to be back with him. pain can hurt someone, but it won’t change anybody; and toji is a perfect example of that.
but you? oh you knew better. and anyone that would cross you in the future would learn that.
signed,
a mad black woman.

hi lovey 🫶 i was thinking about another lo’ak idea for a request and this is what i came up with! so as we know, the sully family had to learn sign language while living with the metkayina clan.. so i was thinking the reader would be metkayina and would take it upon themself to help teach them (at this time the sully’s know certain phrases) and lo’ak is drawn to the reader and asks for private lessons but in actuality he’s pretty good with signing so the reader is like “ur already pretty good but ig so 🤷” and in that lesson lo’ak kind of makes his feelings clear and asks to learn how to say something like “you’re ethereal” and once he learns, he signs it to the reader? idk i just love how you write lo’ak so i just thought of anything really 🤭

You caught the eye of Jake Sully’s second son, and he has made it a point to try and woo you. When you try and teach his family the way your clan communicates underwater, he asks for private lessons, knowing full well he has already excelled in sign language far beyond his siblings. A few more lessons couldn’t hurt, right?
Your requests are always such a delight to see :) Lo’ak tryna finesse the reader into private tutoring sessions just to spend time with them is such a Lo’ak thing to do lol ALSO YOU’LL NOTICE THAT IVE TAKEN A LIKING TO ADDING A BONUS TO THESE

╭┈─────── ೄྀ࿐ ˊˎ-╰┈➤ ❝ [05/01/23] ❞
Ever since the Sully family arrived at your doorstep seeking asylum, your father, Tonowari, had entrusted you with teaching the children your ways so that they were not entirely useless.
You did not appear to mind. When you locked eyes with Toruk Makto's youngest son, he captivated you. He was considerably different from your people, with golden eyes, darker skin, and even being a half dream walker! It was alluring, even if your brother didn't find Lo'ak's unique traits as attractive as you did.
You brushed your burgeoning feelings aside so you could do an excellent job of showing him your ways of life. Tsireya, your sister, had previously taught the Sullys about breathing techniques and diving, but you still stepped in whenever you could. You would've been more involved in the lessons if you weren't so timid around Lo'ak.
He figured you didn't like him as much as he liked you, which stung a little. However, that did not deter him. No, he was determined to get your love! (Little did he know.)
During one of your lessons with Tsireya and the Sullys, you were discussing how you employed sign language to communicate underwater. Of course, you were as far away from Lo'ak as possible to avoid becoming a blundering fool.
The Sullys certainly understood a few basic phrases, but you thought it would be incredibly beneficial in the long run if they knew it fluently because it could save their lives one day. You never know what sea creature you'll have to converse with!
By the end of the lesson, you were eager to get out of the water and rush home so you wouldn't have to interact with Lo'ak; you couldn't stop stuttering whenever you were near him! Eywa, on the other hand, had other plans for you.
Lo'ak softly tapped on your shoulder before you could depart, and you could already feel the tips of your ears burn from the contact. Lo'ak didn't notice, but that didn't matter because he was plotting something. One that he believed was brilliant.
He smiled at you. God, his smile was lethal. “Can I get more lessons with you? I need to work on my sign language a bit more.”
He scratched the nape of his neck shyly, clearly hoping for you to say yes.
You sighed, unable to say no when it’s him. “Okay, sure. We can do some private lessons aside from the main ones.”
Lo'ak cheered inside his head. What you didn't know was that he was already pretty proficient in sign language, and that his request for additional lessons was only a pretext to spend more time with you. Others called that manipulation, he called it chasing his dreams.
...
It was difficult for you to concentrate on teaching him at first. He was so attentive to everything you said that it made you feel so self-conscious! You'd take notice to the way he looked with his hair down, or how mesmerizing his eyes were every time you tried to teach him new terms. You could lose yourself in them for hours.
Snap out of it!
You'd think he was aware of the influence he had on you, because every time you'd lose concentration from gazing at him, he'd simply smile. Maybe your eyes were playing tricks on you, but you swore his cheeks reddened when you stared at him. What was he blushing about? He's the one who makes direct eye contact with you every time you speak!
...
You felt foolish. You were foolish.
After a few days, you realised Lo'ak had duped you into thinking he needed the extra support. In your opinion, his acting skills when feigning to not understand what a phrase meant were atrocious. When you confronted him with the fact that he was already pretty fluent, he sulked.
“I’m still not sure if I’m doing it right, though. Just a few more lessons, pleaase?”
He was going to be the death of you. “You’re already pretty good, but I guess it won’t hurt to help build your confidence more.”
Lo’ak grinned, but you could feel your palms getting sweaty at even the mere thought of having prolonged interactions with him.
...
Here you were, sitting on the beach with Lo’ak as he manipulated you into weeks worth of lessons with his stupidly gorgeous puppy dog eyes. Again.
You improved your interactions with him, this time concealing the effect he had on you. You shook your head, ignoring those wandering thoughts and concentrated on his lesson.
“Okay, show me something you’ve learned.”
Lo’ak beamed, and signed with his hands, “Y/N, I want you.”
Okay, you lied. You certainly did not grasp the capacity to conceal his effect on you. He had this smug look on his face once you registered what he had signed, while you fanned your heated cheeks, claiming it was simply the weather. You concluded he was having difficulty asking for something since 'I want you' sounded a little broken.
Yeah, that’s all there is to it.
You laughed nervously. “You definitely still need to work on your sign language. You didn’t even finish your phrase!”
Lo'ak grumbled. From your perspective , it appeared that he did so because he did not accurately sign what he meant to express. But really, Lo'ak was particularly annoyed because you didn't pick up on his blatant hint.
He recollected himself. “Okay, how about this. How do I say you’re ethereal?”
Compliments. That’s a new one. Nonetheless, you showed him how to sign it.
“You’re ethereal is a little bit hard though, so you’d need a bit of practice with the hand movements for that.”
Lo’ak nodded, very focused on the motions of your fingers.
...
You were disappointed to realise that this was your final private lesson with Lo'ak. You were standing near his marui, too indolent to enter the water. Lo'ak had finally mastered sign language, and you were overjoyed to know you were the reason for it. You requested him to show you some phrases right before you concluded your lesson to ensure he sounded like a true Metkayina.
“Okay. What’s something you’re confident you can say?”
Lo’ak was incredibly anxious. With shaky hands, he signed, “you’re ethereal, and I want you to be mine.”
If Eywa could read your thoughts, you wished she’d take a shovel and beat you six feet beneath the sand. Your cheeks were impossibly dark, and you knew what Lo’ak signed couldn’t have been a mistake. Not with those difficult hand movements.
Curse you for being so stupid. You chastised yourself in your mind for honestly thinking his sign language was broken weeks prior. His skills were perfect, you were just too oblivious to realize that he was saying that he wanted you!
Lo'ak sat there patiently, gazing at your immobilised form. His self-assurance was eroding as you sat there, unresponsive. You coughed sheepishly, your cheeks still blazing, before he could retract his statement.
“You’re ethereal too.”
He felt his entire body heat up. He was not expecting you to sign it back, and now you were both sitting there like startled morons, looking like you had been baking in the heat for hours. You were neither smooth nor subtle in your flirting.
“So you don’t hate me?”
That shook you out of your daze. “What?”
“It’s just that, before these lessons you avoided me all the time. I thought you didn’t like me back.”
Your jaw was on the floor. All shyness disappearing, you practically bellowing across the beach. “Since when? I’ve liked you for weeks!”
“Oh.”
Ensue silence.
Lo'ak had to conceal his visage due to the blush on his cheeks. He could try to hide his face from you, but he couldn't prevent his tail from swishing excitedly. You giggled at his reaction, but the embarrassment of how direct you were hit you a moment later.
You two exchanged glances before laughing at each other's expressions. Lo'ak inched closer to you, intending to plant a soft kiss against your heated cheeks.
You immediately swiveled your head to see what he was doing, and he kissed you on the lips by accident. Lo'ak felt like he was going to burst into flames, not intending to do that.
It was now your turn to bury your face in your palms, your heart practically bursting out of your chest. You couldn't believe what had just transpired!
Ah, young love.
Bonus!
“No. Fucking. Way.”
Jake screamed for his wife to come over. Neytiri ran quickly, abandoning her unfinished basket. Something terrible must’ve happened!
“What’s wrong?”
Jake wiped a tear away, dropping his binoculars. “Our son has finally become a man.”
Neytiri threw her basket at his head.

You, Y/n Vettel had grown up in the fast-paced world of Formula 1. Because of your father, none other than Sebastian Vettel, you've always been around the track, watching him race and learning from his skills. You always have been fascinated by the sport and knew from a young age that she wanted to follow in your father's footsteps.
Growing up, you became an accomplished driver in your own right, competing in lower-level circuits and honing your skills. The dream was to one day race in the top tier of the sport, alongside the likes of her father and his rivals. And Sebastian was the one to support you. He always made sure you weren't getting things only by the “Vettel” last name - and also taught everything he learned. So having your dad around as basically your coach, was one of the best things you could’ve asked.
Sebastian was a good father - even though your parents were fresh out of high school. For him, it wasn’t a surprise you wanted to take his steps in life, since you grew around mechanics and cars. Maybe he would’ve preferred if you only stuck into engineering, but since you’re his daughter, your ambitions were higher than anyone else.
Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher, son of the legendary driver Michael Schumacher, was also making a name for himself on the track. Like you, he had grown up around the sport and had inherited his father's skill and passion. You two had known each other for years, competing against each other in various circuits, but you had never been particularly close except for barbecues involving your family and his, usually you would hang out with Gina - even if she was a little older than you two.
But life goes on and both of you grew up.
When you made your debut in Formula 1, driving for Ferrari, like a dream coming true. You quickly proved yourself as a force to be reckoned with, and before long you were leading the world championship standings. Mick, who was driving for Mercedes, couldn't help but be impressed by your talent and dedication. Of course, since you were competing against each other, you usually only made small conversations.
The media thought that was strange, two sons of unbeaten legacies barely exchanging words around the paddock? Were they hiding a relationship? Or did they have issues with each other? These questions also lingered in the minds of fans, they wanted to know what the mystery was.
But the reality was not that exciting, you just... Never stop talking beyond a few dates a year - made by your families. It wasn't because you hated each other, far from it, there was a gigantic respect between you two, it was just that way anyway.
Until one day, he offered you a ride back to the hotel, it was raining and you had the same habit as your father - to go by bike to the track. You spent hours talking in your hotel room, drinking wine and sharing embarrassing stories. He was a very sweet person and clearly, you couldn't understand how you had never spent a little more time with each other.
At the next GP, buzz started about the sudden closeness, but you always made it clear that it was just friendship and respect in your relationship.
As the season wore on, Mick found himself falling for you more and more. He admired your fierce determination on the track, but he also found himself drawn to you off the track. He loved your wit, your intelligence, and your infectious laughter when the interviewer asked something funny. Schumacher knew how much he wanted to be with you, but he was too nervous to tell you how he felt. It was a tough sport after all, especially for you, being in a male dominated space where they’ll eventually try to tie you together with every male driver on the grid or try to minimise your accomplishments. It was wiser to not be with you, because he didn’t want the backlash to fall on your back. He asked Corinna about it, the German needed a piece of advice, since his heart wanted to pass through PR, the teams, your entire racing lives just to have the minimal chance to be by your side.
On the other hand, you were entirely focused on the championship. You had dreamed of winning it for years, and now that it was so close, you could hardly think of anything else. You worked tirelessly with Ferrari, studying statistics, improving the car and preparing for each race. If this was going to happen, it should come the right way.
Abu Dhabi, it was now or never. You were too nervous, during the trip you couldn't sleep much more than two hours. On Thursday night, after the media day, you just needed some company, so you searched your mobile for his number. Within minutes, the phone that was almost across town was ringing and within seconds, his sweet voice could be heard.
"Hey... Is everything okay?"
"I'm nervous. I can't sleep or eat properly. If I don't rest I don't think I'll be able to win."
"Hey, hey, hey... Breathe, slowly. Do you need company? I can come over."
"But it's so far away... And you need to rest too, the championship is between us and Max."
"I can manage, come on, send your hotel and room."
After almost 30 minutes, a light knock at your door. Schumacher was wearing his blond hair half dishevelled, dark sweatpants, blue hoodie and slippers.
"Thank you..." You mumbled as you felt him pull you into a warm hug.
"Your voice gave me the munchies, so... Do you want to talk or just coexist together?" He murmured against your hair.
"A movie and coexist together?"
You didn't make it to the end of the film, with Mick's arms wrapped against your body, the warm embrace and the comfort of being with him there, next to you, gave a calmness you hadn't expected.
Already in the Paddock, over the weekend, your glances and smiles were full of delicacy and a flirtatious undertone. It seemed that Thursday night had turned a key in how you approached each other.
Finally, the Sunday race. You were leading the standings, but your closest rivals - Max and Mick, were hot on your heels - no one wanted to let it go. It was a nerve-wracking race, with you and the boys swapping the podium placements back and forth. But in the end, you emerged victorious, crossing the finish line first and claiming the world championship.
The moment seemed to have frozen, the shouts over the Ferrari radio, imagining his father and brothers celebrating with happiness, everything seemed like an intangible dream until the moment of passing the chequered flag. Still finishing the lap before going to the pits, you felt tears fall on your face, they were the happiness of proving that you were more than a surname, but an indomitable force.
As you celebrated with her team, you couldn't help but feel overjoyed. Achieving your lifelong dream, and being surrounded by the people you loved most. At the party, you were now no longer smeared with champagne, but dressed up, wearing the team’s colours.  Still, you weren't sober anymore, so when you felt a tap on your shoulder, you bluntly turned around to see Mick standing there, a bouquet of flowers in his hand.
"Congratulations," he said, his voice shaking slightly. "You were amazing out there."
You smiled, feeling your heart flutter in her chest. "Thank you," you said. "It's been a long road to get here."
“I know. You fought like no one to be among the 20 most talented drivers.”
“So nice of you to say that.” You played along, holding the roses.
Later, only the two of you were in the outdoor yard, everyone had moved to the indoor area because of the light serene air. You were sitting on the lawn, stargazing. No words seemed necessary at that moment, so when your hand found his, you said nothing, just let your fingers intertwine in a gentle gesture.
When your eyes met his, you could tell he looked nervous, so you put your free hand on his knee, looking worried.
“Are you okay?”
Mick nodded. "Listen, Y/n, there's something I've been meaning to tell you for a while now. I...I know this might not be the best time, but I just can't keep it inside any longer."
“You can tell me, you know. We’re always honest with each other.”
“I’m in love with you. Sorry.” He breathed out, like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. “Look I- I thought about this, talked with my mom, the PR team… Everyone! Ever since we became friends, I was afraid I was going to ruin everything because I was falling in love with you. And I’m sorry if you don’t… I don’t know! Just… I’m not going to be mad if you don’t reciprocate the feelings.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. You had never suspected that Mick felt that way about you. But as you looked into his eyes again, feeling something stir inside your stomach. Butterflies. You’ve always admired him as a competitor, but now you saw him in a new light. It was as if a fog in his mind had cleared. Even if you never thought about it, he had always been an enigma to you. It was good to finally see a solution.
Clearly your speech and your thoughts did not run together, as all you managed to get out of your mouth was:
"I...I don't know what to say." you stammered.
Mick scooted closer, taking your other hand that was on his knee. "You don't have to say anything," he said. "Just know that I'm here for you, no matter what. And if you ever feel the same way about me, I’m going to be waiting.”
“I do.” It was the only thing that could escape your lips.
“What?”
“I do feel the same, Micky.” You pulled him even nearer, finally closing the gap between your lips.
His soft lips crashing against yours made a sigh of contentment escape your mouth, it was like and your body was dying just to feel a little bit of him. His hands held your waist, while yours stroked his blonde locks.
A cough from far away interrupted the moment you were having, none other than your chief and Toto Wolff watching the scene from afar. In fright, you each fell backwards, completely red from being caught. But two recognisable chuckles could be heard.
"You owe me a hundred euros." Vasseur huffed at the team boss, cracking a smile.
"We need to have a meeting about this! Next week, at the factory, in Brackley!" he just said loud enough to hear, soon walking in with your father.
You both started laughing uncontrollably, hugging each other.
"That's going to be huge news."
"I think we can handle it." You murmured, giving little kisses around his face.
A few weeks later, you were at your parents' house. Finally you were going to tell them that you were together. With this came some insecurities of yours about a possible negative reaction and Mick's fear of telling a close friend that he was dating their daughter.
When you walked into the house holding hands after being greeted by Hannah, she gave you both a tight hug. Your father was in the garage - nothing new, he could never stand still, even retired.
"Dad?"
"Come in!"
As you walked in there, you were followed by the younger Schumacher, who instinctively put his hand on your waist. When Vettel stood to greet you both, he saw how you both looked, cracking a smile.
"Finally, huh? I thought it would never happen." He cracked a smile.
“Dad!” You cried out, hiding your face in your hands.
“What? I’m right! It was a matter of time until you settled together. Me and your mom, together with the Schumacher’s, we… Somewhat estimated when you would realise that.”
“Oh dear God…” You murmured, soon receiving a hug from him.
“I’m proud of you two. Really.” He broke the embrace and put a hand on the blonde’s shoulder. “You better take care of her or I’ll take care of you.”
“Of course, Seb.”
“For you, it’s sir now!” He chuckled, in reaction Mick also did and you whined at their bad joke.

some delinquent childe and student council president reader hcs:
when you announced that you were in a relationship, the entire school was shocked, everyone trying to figure out how and why the two of you even got together in the first place.
at first, everyone thought he bullied you into dating him—until they saw you ordering him around and scolding him after he got into another fight, and him smiling you and nodding his head at whatever you said. needless to say, it quickly became clear that he was whipped.
your friends ask you if you made the homemade bento you now always seem to have during lunch. they’re all stunned when you tell them that childe makes them for you, complete with a note that says, for my hardworking pres ;)
he skips classes just so he can intrude on yours and sit next to you while you do your best to ignore him and pay attention to the teacher. he doesn’t try to bother or distract you like most would initially think, he just likes to watch you take notes and be all serious about your education. he finds it cute how worked up you can get while solving a difficult equation.
he would sometimes glare at the other students who raise their hand to answer a question when you’re clearly raising your hand too. it does the trick as most of them get scared off by his dead-eyed stare. it’s why most of your classmates always check to see if you want to answer the teacher first before volunteering, even when childe isn’t there.
he doesn’t exactly get the worst grades, but they’re still bad. after you two started dating, his grades significantly improved after you convinced him to study more, even tutoring him on the topics he skipped class for. his family absolutely adores you, practically adopted you right then and there after learning how much of a good influence you are to him.
he still gets into fights, but what used to be an everyday occurrence was now reduced to a bi-weekly thing. most of his time is now spent helping you with the heavy tasks involved with your position as president like carrying a box of papers for you or helping set up a school event. when he does get into fights, you’re usually the one who breaks them up and drags his ass to detention.
childe has only managed to convince you to skip class once, and it was his life’s greatest achievement. he helped you jump over the wall to escape school and got you to agree to ride on his bike—with a helmet of course because you were, and he quotes, “not riding on that death trap without any sort of protection.” he takes you to see his favorite spots in the city and makes you try out his favorite street foods.
on valentine’s day, he buys you the biggest bouquet and enough chocolates to fill your entire fridge. he has absolutely no shame as he serenades you right outside the window of your classroom with the help of his friends. he gets detention because of it, but seeing the embarrassed but happy look on your face as you laughed at him was worth it.
overall 10/10 very boyfriend material.

Legacy
This goes AU post-Je Souhaite. Kind of an expansion of what I was exploring in this post on how Mulder and Scully could have had a satisfying ending without children.
[on Ao3] @today-in-fic
I.
Mulder told her to never give up on a miracle. He was right in the end although their miracle wasn’t a child but something far more rare: Two discordant souls coming together to create a union stronger than the sum of its parts.
Once in a Los Angeles hotel room, champagne bubbles fizzing in her mind, Scully whispered in his ear, “I wish we could make a baby this way.”
He froze. He was on top of her, buried deep inside her, his body enveloping hers, and his abrupt pause made her gasp.
“I’m sorry,” she said. “I didn’t mean—”
“Shh,” he soothed her. Shifting to balance on one hand, he used the other to tuck a shock of auburn hair behind her ear. “I wish we could, too.”
She tilted her chin up to meet his eyes. He kissed her hard and started moving within her again. If yearning and conviction were strong enough to overcome biological reality, they would have easily sparked life on that plush king bed with its 1,000-thread count sheets. Alas, science defeated faith. She cringed at the irony of wishing for a different outcome, and hoped he wouldn't blame her for not believing enough.
Arriving at the hotel room after midnight and tipsier than either of them had been in years, they neglected to close the blackout curtains. The harsh sunlight woke her far too early the next morning. A pounding in her head and an acidic churn in her stomach weighed down the buoyant rosiness of the previous night.
He stirred alongside her. Both of their bodies were damp and sticky with sweat. The air conditioner kicked on and she felt goose pimples rising on her flesh.
“Morning,” he whispered, squeezing her tighter against him.
Last night, she felt as if she couldn’t get close enough to him. In the backseat of the car on the way back from the movie premiere, her hands were on his chest, his thighs, the bulge in his lap, as his tongue probed her mouth and she inhaled his heady blend of aftershave, cologne, and natural musk. She couldn’t remember how they shed their clothing, just her evening gown and his tux falling away as their bodies sought contact.
In the morning, though, she craved to be alone. Not to escape him, but to run from the implication of her words. The alcohol had smudged certain details of the evening but she remembered what she said to him about conceiving a child. And, as much as she wished he didn’t, she knew he had to as well.
With her head on his sternum, she felt him clearing his throat.
“I know we never really talked about it, the IVF, afterwards,” he started. “But if that’s still something you want, I would want it, too.”
“There’s not going to be another round of IVF,” she said, her voice raspy. “No more ova, remember?”
“I didn’t mean that specifically,” he said. They’d been intimate for months but this was the one topic they still danced around with their old, overly formal remoteness. “I meant having a child another way. There are donor eggs, surrogacy, adoption—”
“I know,” she cut him off. “It’s still so raw, though.”
“I understand,” he said. He kissed the top of her head and she realized they were both crying. “But I want you to know I’m open to any of it. If and when you’re ever ready.”
“Thank you,” she said. “I appreciate that.”
And yet, weeks turned to months and she never felt ready to face another loss. She still dreamt of little girls with her hair and his bottom lip; little boys with his nose and her eyes. But the pain lessened as time went on. Once she let him in, she felt less alone. Together, their lives felt full.
II.
She knew he hadn’t been close to his mother, but after Teena’s death—and the concurrent shift in their relationship—she made more of an effort to involve him with her family. At first, he resisted. She suspected he feared being an imposition or, worse, a tangible reminder of all his quest had taken away from her and her family. She could meet his stubbornness with her own, though, and in the end he couldn’t turn her down.
They began with casual dinners at her mother’s and, just short of a year into their relationship, she managed to convince him to fly with her to Bill’s for Christmas. Matthew, nearly three, had been joined by a younger sister, Caitlin, only a few months old on their first visit. With Caitlin in her arms, Scully shifted her gaze between the unbroken peace of the infant’s sleeping face and Mulder’s worried facade. With her widest smile and honest eyes she attempted wordlessly conveying to him that she was truly happy. No one offered the baby to Mulder to hold and he didn’t volunteer. For that, she felt thankful. As content as she was, she wasn’t ready to face the image of what might have been.
They visited more frequently over the years, becoming regular fixtures in her nephew and niece’s lives. They went to kindergarten graduations, birthday parties, little league games, and dance recitals. When the kids were a little older, they took them out for the day, just the four of them, to the zoo, the aquarium, the beach.
Bill was a football fan but his son preferred the slower, cerebral rhythm of baseball.
“Good,” Bill said, eyeing Mulder on the couch discussing the Padres odds of making it into the playoffs with Matthew. “You can watch this with him. It’s too boring for me.”
And Mulder did, for hours at a time even though it wasn’t his team. The boy’s wonder and curiosity in the game mattered more than who won or lost. He saw so much of Scully in her nephew’s precocious, methodical nature. Matthew even corrected his math.
Everyone else was surprised by how good Mulder was with the kids, but she never had doubts. She’d seen him on cases interacting with children at the worst possible moments of their lives—after losing a parent or a sibling, or witnessing a heinous crime—but he always approached them with respect, kindness, and patience. Knowing what it was like to feel alone and misunderstood, he gave them the space they needed.
Aware of her infertility, her family knew better than to whisper to her that he’d be a wonderful father, but that didn't stop her from hearing the words reverberate in her own mind. But they were merely echoes bouncing off the cold walls of a barren canyon. Unable to find purchase, they dissipated and faded away into the ether.
It was only once when a three-year-old Caitlin became inconsolable for reasons that were impossible for adult minds to decipher and would only accept comforting from her mother that Scully felt the emptiness in her arms as she handed the toddler over to Tara.
An hour later, the girl’s mood lifted just as mysteriously as it fell and she was eager to show her aunt her Barbie doll’s new wardrobe. Scully sat cross legged on the floor switching out outfits for so long that her legs fell asleep and Mulder had to help her up. As he lifted her to stand, he softly kissed her neck, just beneath her ear.
Once, Tara was even able to wrangle the kids on her own when Bill was at sea, and they flew out to DC to visit. They stayed at her mother’s—Scully’s apartment that she now shared with Mulder was too small to house them all—but Mulder and Scully spent nearly every waking moment with Matthew and Caitlin. The city they walked every day took on a new tint through the children’s excited eyes. Who knew there were so many interactive exhibits at the National Air and Space Museum? That the pizza place on her block threw in candy with your order if you picked up a child’s size pie?
They fell into bed exhausted but giggling over the silly comments the kids had entertained them with each day.
Their visit ended with airport hugs and kisses. As they returned to their car in the parking lot, she felt a sinking sense of guilt.
“You could have this for real, you know,” she said. “With someone else.”
For an instant, their roles reversed and he looked at her like she’d lost her mind. “It’s only you,” he vowed. “You and me. Forever.”
As jet planes soared above them bringing families together or drawing them apart, he wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. This was family, too, she knew. Two hearts that had found each other.
III.
The only time she ever felt glad they weren’t able to have children was when they learned the date of colonization. She’d already seen one daughter’s life cut short by the work of these horrible men and she couldn’t watch another die. If the IVF had worked, their child would only barely have made it to its teenage years.
By the time they learned the date, they only had five years left to fight. To thwart their efforts, their enemies had them both framed for crimes and they became fugitives. Cut off from the resources of the bureau and even the power to use their own names, their struggle intensified, but they never gave up.
The Gunmen helped them go deep underground. For years, they exchanged old fake identities for new ones and took up disposable backstories in dozens of nameless towns across the country. Once either of them picked up even a passing whiff of threat, they’d pack their bags and leave one life behind for the next. She thanked God she didn’t have to force a child to live like this.
In another life, these would have been the years she devoted to bedtime stories, school pickups, and soccer practices. Instead, she spent them corresponding with others in the resistance through encrypted emails sharing research findings and making plans.
With a year to go, she finally developed a promising vaccine formulation using samples of the extraterrestrial virus stolen from a syndicate lab by a scientist sympathetic to their cause. She tested her inoculation on mice and stray dogs. All the creatures showed immunity.
Mulder insisted on being her first human test subject.
“Absolutely not,” she argued. “You were exposed to the virus in that gulag. There’s no way to know how either the vaccine or this particular strain of contagion would interact with your existing antibodies. Besides, the resistance can’t afford to lose you. I can’t afford to lose you.”
Ultimately, Frohiked stepped up.
“I’m the eldest,” he said, when the five of them met up. “I have the least time remaining.”
The rest of them started to dispute but he waved his hands to cut them off.
“I’m disposable,” he continued. “Scully’s the only one with the medical know-how, Mulder’s got his connections and that spooky sixth sense that’ll come in handy. Byers’s has the bland face of comforting authority that’ll convince everyone to line up for this wacky new shot, and Langly’s a decent enough hacker to break down all the digital fortresses you’ll need to penetrate.”
“This better not be some ploy to get me to admit your kung fu is so far superior to mine that we can’t possibly lose you,” Langly deadpanned.
“Not a chance, hippie,” Frohike huffed. “It’s just that you’re allergic to bees so we all know the anaphylaxis would take you out long before the virus had a chance.”
So he rolled up his sleeve and let her give him the injection. She waited for a crude joke as she swabbed his deltoid with alcohol and then depressed the plunger of the syringe, but Frohike remained serious and stoic. He’d been a good friend to them over the years and she didn’t underestimate him.
They waited two weeks for the vaccine to take effect, and then she tested his antibodies. According to her research, his levels appeared high enough to fend off the virus. They locked him in the basement of a rural home they’d rented with a reliable Wi-Fi connection, a week’s worth of food and water, and a hive of genetically engineered Africanized honey bees.
Stung to shit, he texted the rest of them later that night.
Any symptoms? Scully wrote.
All copacetic so far, he responded. My faith in the good doctor remains.
Godspeed, Byers replied.
A week later, they unlocked the basement door. With the exception of scattered pink welts from the bee stings that had already begun to heal, he emerged unscathed. No gelatinous tissue. No gestating alien.
“Dr. Scully,” he said, grinning. “Your patient lives.”
Byers and Langly whooped and applauded.
Mulder kissed her on the forehead. “I knew you could do it,” he said. There might be hope after all.
Scully argued they had to find a way to deliver the vaccine surreptitiously, that no one would believe their claims of an upcoming alien invasion. But Mulder insisted it had to be a choice. That if they inoculated the population without consent, they’d be no better than the syndicate of men who secretly carried out their tests on unwilling, innocent citizens for decades. Although she feared his plan would result in unnecessary death, she didn’t deny he was in the right morally.
As word of a successful vaccine spread, more and more scientists defected from the syndicate to join the resistance. Mulder and Scully never fully trusted them, wary that they’d found their consciences a little too late, but still welcomed the information they had to offer. They mapped where the bees would be released and charted the timeline of the ships’ arrivals.
In the months leading up to the date, Scully became the public face of the resistance, using her scientific background and medical credentials to plead their case and insist on widespread vaccine uptake. She published their old case reports, not sparing the public any of the gory imagery of what laid ahead if they failed to act.
Miraculously, it worked. Enough of the populace accepted the vaccine that, paired with a syndicate significantly weakened by the resistance, they were able to ward off the invasion. The ships were picked up on radar systems but they must have been able to detect their accomplices’ failure on the ground and they quickly reversed course.
Mulder and Scully’s names were cleared and they were lauded as heroes after spending years as outlaws.
As they sat on their porch and watched the sun set on that unseasonably warm but otherwise unremarkable December evening, the old emptiness threatened to temper the joy of victory.
“Our children could have had a future,” she said.
“Scully, you gave all the children a future.”
He leaned in to kiss her. The world didn’t end.
IV.
Life went on, which meant its shadow, death, kept up its work as well. It didn’t feel fair that she only got to enjoy a few more years with her mother after they were free to come out of hiding, but at least Maggie Scully maintained her sharp mind until the very end.
Only in these last few days, on a steady morphine drip to ease her transition into the next world, did the loving relatives streaming in to visit her bedside start blurring together.
“You’re such a good mother,” she said to Scully, after spending an afternoon with her, Matthew, and Caitlin. “You’ve raised them so well.”
Scully didn’t have the heart to correct her, to remind her that these were Bill and Tara’s children, not her own. So she smiled and kissed the thin skin on her mother’s brow.
“I learned from you,” she said.
Her life was rich, even without children. She had Mulder, her extended family, and her work. She didn’t know if her mother would ever understand that, so she let her die believing her daughter was happy in a way that she could comprehend.
V.
After his stroke, she knew they didn't have much time left together. He was still the same man she met and fell in love with so long ago, still possessed his wit and encyclopedic memory of all things paranormal, only operated at a slightly slower frequency.
So it didn’t surprise her when she woke up one morning and his body was next to her, but he was gone. She had nearly lost him so many times over the years, but when it finally happened she felt oddly at peace. He had lived a long life. He had been vindicated, defeated his enemies, and even saved the world. They had spent decades at each other’s side, the intensity of their love never fading. Still, a lifetime together was not enough time.
She wanted to stay in the house, it was theirs after all, but it became harder and harder to keep up on her own. Caitlin offered for her to come live with her and her husband in Southern California. Their own children were all grown up and on their own, so they had plenty of room for her. She liked the idea of returning to the Pacific of her youth, so she agreed and began clearing out the house.
They didn’t have much. There was no fortune, no priceless family heirlooms, but there was neat, lawyer-signed paperwork dividing what they did have between Matthew, Caitlin, and their children. She was glad to help them in some way, however small.
She didn’t mind getting rid of their belongings. Her childhood as an itinerant Navy brat and her years on the run with Mulder had taught her not to value material things. But then there were the files. Their life’s work, cataloged in dozens of cabinets in their home office. Their true legacy.
A few weeks before moving, she got the email.
Dear Dr. Scully,
My name is Tegan Marks and I’m a special agent with the FBI. I read about your husband’s recent passing and I wanted to express my sincere condolences. I must admit that I’ve long been an admirer of both of you, ever since learning of your work in preventing the alien colonization of 2012.
As you know, the X-Files division has been closed since you and Agent Mulder departed from the bureau. However, that hasn’t stopped reports of unexplained phenomena from coming in. We just don’t have a unit or any resources devoted to investigating them. While I’m currently assigned to the violent crimes section, I’ve petitioned my supervisors to reopen the X-Files and they’ve been receptive.
In order to establish a thorough database of this type of phenomena and its history, I was hoping to access your files to scan and digitize. I would happily return the physical copies to you once I’m done.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Best, Special Agent Tegan Marks
Scully replied that Agent Marks was welcome to come and pick up the files anytime, no need to return them.
She showed up excitedly a week later. She was so young—probably no older than Scully was the day she was assigned to the X-Files herself—and so full of passion and curiosity. If aliens had colonized the planet in 2012, Agent Marks never would have been born. Scully led her to the home office where wall to wall filing cabinets held the secrets of her life’s work.
“Oh wow,” Marks said, surveying the office. “I think this is more than I can fit in my car. I might have to make a few trips.”
“Take as much time as you need,” Scully said.
“And I’m happy to bring them back once I’ve digitized them.”
“No,” Scully stopped her. “Please, keep them. They belong with someone who will put them to use.”
Scully watched as Marks hauled folder after folder to her car. She loaded the backseat and trunk to the brim but had barely reached the M’s for Mothmen.
“I don’t know how to thank you for this,” she said.
“I should be thanking you,” Scully said. “I know nothing would make my husband happier than to know that these were with someone who wanted to carry on our legacy. Before you head back, would you like to join me for some coffee or tea?”
“Tea would be lovely,” Marks said and followed her back into the kitchen.
“I’m honestly glad you reached me when you did,” Scully said as she boiled the kettle. “I’m in the process of downsizing and I didn’t know what to do with all of these.”
“Well, I’m glad I got in touch,” said Marks. “I’m looking forward to diving into these.”
“I can’t believe they’re reopening the X-Files after all these years.” Scully shook her head. “Do you have a partner?”
“I’m in the process of selecting someone now. It’s been challenging, though.”
Scully nodded, indicating for her to go on.
“Well, I’m obviously very open-minded about the paranormal but not many other agents are. I imagine this work would be much easier with a fellow believer.”
“Hmm,” Scully said, pausing to sip her tea. “You might be surprised. Mulder and I rarely saw eye-to-eye on our cases but I think that challenging each other is what made us such a good team. Just make sure you find someone you actually enjoy disagreeing with.”
“Thanks for the advice,” Marks said. “Although I don’t think partnerships like that are all that common.”
“No,” Scully said, smiling. “I don’t suppose they are.”
After they finished their tea, Scully saw the younger woman to the door and watched as she drove away; their legacy in good hands.

Hi ☺️ could you write where reader is Severides roommate/best friend and fellow squad member and she has a nightmare and screams his name in her sleep so he bursts into her room to hold her and calm her down. Just fluffy/protective Sev vibes 💕
Close Call (Kelly Severide x Reader)
Tumblr media
Synopsis: You almost lose Kelly on a call one day, and it's all you can think about, so much that you have a night terror.
Warnings: Mentions of loss, swearing, shitty writing. (Let me know if I missed anything!)
Word Count: 1.9k
“If I’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes too.”
“You okay?” You jumped out of your thoughts at the sound of Kelly’s voice. Removing your head from the palm of your hands, you turned your head to the side to look at him. “Yeah, I’m good” you said standing up, continuing to grab your belongings from your locker. “You?” you asked him curiously without looking at him, trying to brush off his concern and appear as unbothered as possible.
Things got serious on a call today. Being on squad for the past couple years has most obviously exposed you to some traumatic situations, but they usually didn’t involve one of your co-workers- this co-worker being your lieutenant, roommate, and the man you’ve grown to love. “Sore, but good” he responded.
“For the brush with death you had, I’m surprised you’re in one piece. Thought I was going to have to post a ‘roommate needed!’ flyer around the firehouse” you joked, as you sat down to tie your boots. The only way you knew how to cope with the fact that you almost lost the man you haven’t confessed your love for yet was through horrible ‘comedic’ small talk.
Severide chuckled in response, watching your every move as he waited patiently for you. “Will cleared me at med, I’m good” he assured you. “You told me you were ‘good’ today when you had an entire chimney crushing you. Just another day at the office though, eh?” you stood up and looked up at him with playful, annoyed eyes; this type of exchange was regular for you both. “You got it” he smiled back, putting an arm around you as he guided you out of the locker-room.
The drive back to your shared apartment was quiet. You and Severide were not ones to share your feelings with each other- you were merely friends; roommates; co-workers. You both had your own mental problems but being on squad definitely added to the pre-existing trauma-pile. You shared many similarities with Kelly – familial trauma, not telling anyone anything, being hard-headed – and this made it easier to keep your relationship on a platonic level. Only opposites attract, right?
“What’s going on in that big brain of yours” Severide asked, earning a laugh from you in response. He had one hand on the steering wheel, the other on his gear shift. He looked over at you, scanning your face as if the answer was hidden somewhere on your complexion. “Nothing, Kel. Promise. Just a long day” you shot him a smile, as you once again pretended that you weren’t riddled with anxiety.
Playing repeatedly in your head were the events that had occurred just a few hours prior. You were pacing outside the burning house, resisting the urge to run back in and mentally preparing yourself for the possibility of losing another member of firehouse 51 (and coincidentally, another best friend) in the line of duty. You were attempting to envision a life without Kelly, and you just couldn’t. You had already written him into the rest of your life, he just didn’t know it.
First Hermann and Ritter ran out, then Cruz and Tony- with missing equipment. “Tony, where is your mask?!” the chief asked him in shock. Tony’s hands were on his knees as he attempted to cough out the soot in his lungs. “Kelly… he ran… out of air” he spat out in between. The chief clenched his jaw in anxiety, the expression of severe concerned plastered across his face. Seeing your chief unable to keep his cool always sent you into an internal spiral.
You whipped your entire body and started walking towards him. “Chief, please let me go in there, I don’t weigh as much, and I can help them” you walked towards him and begged; you felt useless. You would loathe yourself for the rest of eternity if you could’ve done something to save Kelly’s life and you didn’t. “I’m not risking another life, Y/L/N” Boden sternly said, with a hint of disappointment knowing there was nothing anyone could do but wait.
Before you were able to plead with him once again, an explosion had occurred, the sound and vibration echoing in your chest and bouncing off every wall inside of you. You wanted to scream in horror, knowing your best-friend’s last moments could very well be taking place in this burning house, but you were unable to produce any sound. Your eyes were locked on the front door in anticipation, and you could barely believe it when you saw Casey and Cruz emerge with him.
Running towards Kelly and engulfing him, you felt like you were dreaming; you thought he was dead. “Fuck, Kel. You scared me” you muttered into his shoulder, relief washing away your anxiety. Kelly had been in many dangerous situations before, but even he thought he wasn’t going to make it this time.
You snapped out of it once you heard his voice. “I can read you like a book. Why don’t you just talk to me?” Says him. “You… read books?” you put a hand up to your mouth for theatrics, asking him with exaggerated sarcasm which caused him to roll his eyes.
“Okay, keep joking around, Y/L/N” he chuckled to himself, knowing you weren’t going to crack anytime soon. He wishes you would just open up to him, but he knew it went both ways. “I think everyone’s going to Molly’s tonight, you want to go?” he asked you as he pulled into his parking spot. “I’ll see how I feel after we order some takeout” you winked, heading upstairs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Kelly ordered some Chinese food, deciding to sit on the couch and watch the Bear’s game. Leaning your head on his shoulder, you attempted to slurp your noodles, which resulted in soy sauce splattering all over your face. He chuckled, and grabbed a napkin, dabbing the corners of your mouth. “You’re a mess, Y/L/N” he said, staring at you in admiration. “Hey, you knew what you were getting yourself into before we became roommates” you shrugged, watching him walk to the front door.
“I’m gonna head out to Molly’s, you comin’?” he said as he put on his leather jacket. If you were to be tempted with alcohol, the night would end with you in the back of an ambulance (and not ambulance 61). “Nah, I’ll pass. I’m tired” you spoke as honestly as you could get across. You did want to see your 51 family- they always cheered you up. But tonight, you knew you needed some self-care (if you count contemplating your entire existence as a self-care activity).
Kelly nodded his head, signalling that he understood. “Have a good night though, Kel. Be safe” you shot him a smile, and he saluted you on his way out. “Always, Y/N.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was 1:00am, and you were wondering what you did to deserve the tossing and turning you’ve been enduring for the past 2 hours. Perhaps all the melatonin had seeped out of your body being replaced by stress in the form of adrenaline. You kept replaying Kelly’s close call from that afternoon in your mind, a variation of ‘What If’s’ being overthought.
Kelly was your rock. You’d never admit that – especially not to him – but it was true. You were strong, independent, brave, and a plethora of other qualities that make up a badass female firefighter, but even resilient people need to be held sometimes.
By the time you had finally fallen asleep, your brain had decided to concoct a very vicious recall of events in the form of a vivid nightmare. Everything went exactly as it had in real life, except Kelly didn’t survive. He was pulled out by Casey and Cruz, and Capp, Tony, Hermann, and Ritter helped place him on a stretcher.
“Oh my… Kel??? Kelly. Wake up. Please, you have to wake up!” The chief was attempting to hold you back, but you broke out of his grasp in desperation. You vowed to stay right by his side as Brett and Foster went to work, but it was too late. And all you could do was let out an earth-shattering scream. “Kel… Kelly… WAKE UP!!!”
The sound of footsteps sounded into your room. “Hey, hey, Y/N. I’m right here. Hey, you’re okay” he cooed. You jostled awake and couldn’t distinguish reality from your nightmare- there was no way Kelly was right next to you, touching you, holding you; alive and well. “Wh- What? Kel?” You squinted and touched his arm, attempting to verify his liveliness. “It’s me, you had a bad dream. Everything’s okay” he assured.
Using the back of your hand to wipe off the layer of sweat that formed on your forehead, you looked down and realized you drenched the sheets with sweat.
You looked back at him, trying to convince yourself that he’s not just a figment of your imagination, but a real person. The second you saw his eyes glimmer in concern, you began to bawl, holding onto him with all your might. “I know… I know. Let it out. Everything’s okay. You’re safe.” Your head was nestled into his bare chest, and you knew you’d get tears and slobber all over him, but you figured you couldn’t embarrass yourself any more than you already have. His arm was around your shoulder, engulfing your entire body; no one’s ever held you with such fortitude.
After a 5-minute sob session, you reached over to grab a Kleenex from your bedside table. “I’m sorry I woke you up,” you sniffled, avoiding eye contact. The strong fort you put up had been knocked down by your own brain; you felt betrayed. “You don’t have to put on a façade, Y/N. Especially not around me. You don’t always have to be the strong one” he advised. “Kel- I’m” “That’s exactly what I’m talking about, Y/N. You’re not okay” he responded, grabbing your chin with his index finger so you’d look at him. “Let me help you” he nearly begged; he just wanted to see you happy.
Your lip began to quiver, and you felt tears reach the brim of your eyes once again as you quietly said, “I lost you, Kel. It felt so real.” You shuddered in horror, recalling what you just dreamt. He didn’t want to pry too much so he took what you said as a start. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” You nodded slowly, feeling like a helpless child.
The motion of him rubbing his large, calloused hands up and down your back restored your inner peace, and you felt the safest you had ever felt under his touch. Your eyelids grew heavy, a headache from your crying session already starting to develop. You began to drift off; with his arms around you, you felt like everything was okay, and that all that mattered was the present- you and Kelly together.
He wrapped his arms around you, keeping you in his hold and kissing the top of your head. He muttered an ‘I love you’, but little did he know you heard all 3 words; you were safe here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y'all... it's been too long. I'm truly sorry. School is killing me, and September was going well until I got into a car accident, and I've been playing catch up ever since. Just an extremely stressful time right now, so I'm very sorry- if you're waiting for me to write your request, I appreciate your patience! I really want this to be a fun thing for me rather than a chore, but with school, unfortunately I have 0 time for hobbies. But I am going to try. I hope this imagine was bearable- please comment any feedback/ what you thought! PS this is based on the episode where the chimney falls on Kelly in season 7.

How they fell for MC: Part 6
Beelzebub:
The most challenging thing about Beel is getting him to notice anyone else around him. Our boy is focused on one thing… well two of you count his many athletic hobbies.
Once it was made clear that you were not food, you were just background for awhile. It’s just how Beel is to the outside world. His priorities in life are as follows:
food
Family
Sports
Everything else
I mean, at least you’re in the top four though, né?
Beel isn’t hard to warm up to or anything, he’s just intimidating to most everyone, so they avoid him. (And there was those two events where he ate whole demons who got between him and his food during a hangry rage)
He also isn’t a cold person. As you began to talk to him, and he began to open up to you, you learned that while he is a demon of few words, he loves his brothers. You can feel it as he talks about them. He likes hearing you talk about your other life in the human realm. He loves your cooking too, he looks forward to your turn to make dinner, it’s always human world food, and he is here for it! He looked forward to telling Belphie all about you when he returns from his visit to the human realm.
Then that event happened. Belphie? He was never in the human realm? Belphie killed you. How? How had this happened? He felt hot anger at Belphie’s actions… but he knew Belphie was hurting. He felt it through their link. He had known Belphie struggled after the fall… they all had… but he knew you could help him. But now you were broken on the floor… why couldn’t he move. What was this pain in his heart?
After Lord Diavolo and Barbatos had visited, and you were alive again, he was happy you were back, but nothing would erase the image of your body broken on the floor. The sounds of his twin’s shrieking laughter. He had nightmares for weeks about that and dreams about Lilith.
That’s right, you were descended from Lilith, they explained that when they brought you back. Maybe that was why he felt calmer, less ravenous around you? He wasn’t sure.
In the days that followed, he wasn’t sure what to do. He was happy Belphie was back. He was hurt and angry at Lucifer for having locked Belphie up. He was angry with Belphie for hurting you, but you were still here. He just wasn’t sure how to interact with you, especially where Belphie was involved.
Slowly he watched as life moved forward in the HoL. He watched as you actually interacted with Belphie, the very demon who had hurt you. Even when some of his brothers wouldn’t acknowledge him at all. He watched as Belphie slowly responded to you. His heart was genuinely moved to see you doing what he couldn’t. He did whatever he could to bring everyone together… and when he was cursed by the reaper, you threw yourself headlong into saving him, even at the cost of your own life being shortened. He adored you human, absolutely and without doubt. You were family to him… and not only that, but you meant as much to him as Belphie did. Wasn’t there a word or something for this? He went to Asmo, as he was the brother who seemed to know the most about feelings.
‘Love’ Asmo squealed in delight as he bounced around Beel, ‘you’re in love!’ Ahh, so that was it. He was in love with you. He smiled and left Asmo to his excitement as he headed to the kitchen for snacks. He was going to watch a movie with you and Belphie. Now that he had his answer he was content.
Beel isn’t a complex demon, he is an adorable hungry love bug though.

A Magician, Yoda is Not
After a disaster relief mission, Yoda entertains some local children. Written for Fandom Empire Prompt Tables 2024 - Prompt: "Magic"
Read on AO3
“Your assistance has been greatly appreciated, Master Jedi,” the mayor said, with the utmost sincerity. The avalanche had been devastating, overpowering their safeguards and destroying half of their capital city. Rescue organizations and crews had arrived quickly after the request for help had gone out, but even with all their tireless hard work, things would have gone a lot differently without the aid of the Jedi, who could sense where people were trapped more quickly and accurately than the most sophisticated rescue droids, could predict and could lift snow and debris with their minds.
Many lives had been lost in the initial disaster, but so many more had been trapped, their survival entirely dependent on how quickly they could be reached and given medical attention. For many of those people, the involvement of the Jedi was that very difference between life and death.
There were so many more people saved today than the mayor could have ever imagined hoping for.
“You have our gratitude, and our friendship,” he continued, “and if there is any way we can repay you, you have but to name it.”
“Glad to be of service, we are,” Master Yoda said. “No reward do we require. But if offered, your friendship is, then glad we are to accept. No greater reward, could there be.”
A group of young children ran up to them. Not ones who had been rescued – they would still be receiving medical attention if they were – but children who had had family members and friends trapped, or knew someone who did, and had helped in whatever way they could, running comms between rescue teams, bringing food and water where it was needed, etc.
As such, they had witnessed the Jedi’s help as well.
“Show us your magic again!” one of them begged Yoda.
“It was amazing!”
“Please! Do some magic!”
The mayor frowned. They were children and didn’t know any better, of course, but he knew that the Jedi didn’t call their talents “magic”, so it seemed disrespectful to call it as such, even if it might as well have been to his eyes.
“I apologize…” he started to say to Yoda, but the Jedi had a twinkle in his eyes, and made the slightest shake of his head, so the mayor fell silent, and watched as Yoda turned to face the children.
“Magic?” he asked, with a teasing tone. “Magic, I know not. A magician, I saw once. Pull a coin from your ear, he could, and turn a scarf into a bird. Very impressive, it was. Offered his audience a turn, he did. Very bad at it, I was. Better at magic, I think, you would be, than old Yoda!”
The children were unconvinced.
“We saw you!” the first said.
“You lifted all the snow and ice!”
“The wind, it could have been,” Yoda said.
“The wind doesn’t lift up people,” another child said, matter-of-factly.
“Hmph! Say that, you do, but floating, you are!” Yoda said.
The children all looked down, realizing that in fact, their feet were no longer on the ground. They shrieked with delighted laughter, and two of them reached out to spin the third around in mid-air, to the amusement of all three.
“See?” Yoda said, “The wind, it was.”
“No, you’re doing this!” one of the children accused, giggling.
“Know what you’re talking about, I do not.”
“Yes, you do!”
“The mayor knows you’re doing it, too, right, Mr. Mayor?”
The mayor was a little taken aback by the question, unsure how he should respond. It was, of course, obvious that Master Yoda was lifting the children, but it was also clear that he was playing a game with them.
“I’m...afraid this is out of my area of expertise,” he said, finally.
The child pouted at him, but quickly bounced back to cheerfulness as the three of them floated higher into the air. It would have been alarming if the mayor had not completely trusted Yoda to keep them safe.
Slowly, the children were brought back down to the ground, only mildly disappointed to be back on their own feet.
“Thank you, Mr. Jedi! That was fun!”
“I always wanted to fly,” another said.
“Good-bye, Mr. Jedi!”
The three children ran off, and Yoda chuckled.
“Joy,” he said, “for the children, easy it is, to be found. Good, it is, to play. A relief from worries, it is.”
And, well, the mayor, even being of a more serious disposition himself, couldn’t argue with that.

The Captive - Chapter 31
Chapter 30
It’s been a bit, sorry 😭 I was on vacation last week, and didn’t have much time to do writing. I’m back now, so I should get at least one chapter a week done!
Hope you’re ready for more family drama and feels!
Jake stood on the edge of a beach, watching the waves crashing onto shore. It was sunny, but a strong breeze was blowing through Awa’atlu, making the air a bit chillier than usual. But the avatar didn’t mind. Weather like this helped him clear his head.
He closed his eyes, listening to the sounds around him…
“Dad?”
Jake jumped slightly, turning to see Kiri approaching him. He grimaced slightly at her appearance. She looked just as exhausted as Jake felt. He knew she’d take everything hard.
Still, he managed to give a slight smile as his daughter walked up.
“Hey. Any news on Spider?”
Kiri shook her head.
“It’s still the same.”
After a moment, she spoke again.
“I wanted to talk with you…and mom about Spider. Now.”
“I was just about to meet with your mom myself. Why don’t you come with me?” Jake offered, and Kiri nodded.
As they began to make their way back to their Marui, Jake considered what he had to say. For years, he’d preferred not to get involved in the…complicated relationship between Spider and Neytiri. But now he no longer had a choice. Both Tonowari and Ronal were on his case, not to mention…the arrow.
Jake took a deep breath as the Marui came into sight. This wouldn’t be an easy conversation to have. For any of them.
Silently, Jake prayed that what Ronal had said to him earlier didn’t hold truth.
Neytiri was alone in the Marui, working on weaving some baskets. Compared to the obviously exhausted appearances of Jake and Kiri, she looked…normal.
“I see you.” Jake began the greeting, and Kiri followed.
“Kiri, Ma Jake, I see you.” Neytiri responded, quickly glancing up from her work.
Jake took a seat on the floor with Kiri also sitting nearby. Both of them were tense. It was Jake who spoke first.
“Neytiri…how are you feeling. After yesterday.”
“I am fine, Ma Jake.” Neytiri responded nonchalantly, her focus maintained on her work.
“I know that…things are tough.” Jake began. “I understand if…”
“I told you; I am fine.” Neytiri replied again, a bit more insistent. “I don’t see what…”
“You shot Spider.”
Kiri spoke for the first time, no longer able to hold back the words.
Neytiri stopped working. A silence fell over the Marui, and Jake drew in a breath. There was no avoiding this subject.
After a moment, Neytiri spoke.
“He shouldn’t have jumped between me and the Demon.” She said flatly, causing Kiri to bristle. At the same time, Jake’s hopes dropped.
“You knew he was there. You shouldn’t have shot the arrow with him so close!” Kiri replied, upset.
“He was with the Demon. He knew the risk.”
Kiri only grew angrier at her mother’s reply.
“Spider almost died!” Kiri exclaimed, clenching her fists. “He could lose his arm! Do you have any idea what that would do to him?!”
“He made his choice. He must bear the consequences.”
“The consequences? For what? Being with the only adult on his side when he was scared for his life?!”
“The consequences for betraying us for the Demon!” Neytiri snapped.
Everyone grew quiet. For a moment, none of them spoke or moved. It was Jake who broke the silence.
“Neytiri…he’s just a kid.”
“He is a child of the Demon! He has his father’s blood! He is loyal to his father! Last night just proves it once more!”
Jake struggled to think of something to stay, stunned by the sudden aggressiveness from his mate. He recalled Kiri’s words.
“He grew up with our children. He sees us as family…”
“No!” Neytiri interrupted. “That demon-spawn is not any family of mine!”
“Do you want to know why he was with Quaritch?!” Kiri suddenly burst out. “It’s because of this! It’s because of you, mom!”
Jake tried to calm Kiri down, but she pushed him away.
“How many times have you almost killed Spider at this point!? No wonder he’s terrified of you! He would barely even talk to me because of how scared he was! And now this?! He cares about the one adult that’s actually a parent to him, and you think he should be crippled for life?!”
By now, both Jake and Neytiri were looking at Kiri, too stunned to react. They had never seen her close to this infuriated before.
“IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?!” Kiri practically screamed at her mother. “YOU WANT TO MAKE SPIDER AS MISERABLE AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF WHO HIS DAD IS?” OR DO YOU THINK HE SHOULD DIEFOR IT? WERE YOU TRYING TO HIT HIM? WOULD YOU EVEN CARE IF SPIDER WAS DEAD RIGHT NOW?!”
Kiri stopped speaking, only drawing shuddering breaths as she clenched her fists looking at her mom. Neytiri was looking down. Aside from a slight frown on her face, she hadn’t reacted. A few seconds passed.
“Do you care at all…?” Kiri asked again. This time her voice was softer, strained. Almost pleading.
Jake looked at his mate expectantly, but with every second of silence that passed, he felt his heart sink lower.
Why wasn’t she saying anything?
“Neytiri…?” Jake asked cautiously. Before he could say more, his mate closed her eyes and drew in a deep breath.
“I…” She pursed her lips. “It was not my intention to harm Spider. The arrow was meant for the Demon alone.”
The answer made Kiri growl.
“Do you care that Spider was hit? Do you care that he might lose his arm?”
Neytiri sighed, her eyes still closed.
“He set Quaritch free. It must have been him. He set the Demon free.” She paused for a moment, thinking, then continued. “I did not intentionally hurt him, but…I cannot say I did not…wish for harm to come to him.”
Kiri hissed at the admission, but Jake barely noticed. It was like a stab in the gut to hear the words. His head felt like it was spinning.
“Neytiri…” He managed to choke out the name, but nothing more. His mate did not miss either of their reactions. She hung her head slightly.
“As a follower of Eywa, as a Tsahik, I…should not have wished harm upon any child. But it’s just…how can I forgive what he has done?’
Jake tried to say something, but he felt frozen in place. He felt paralyzed as Neytiri’s words replayed over and over in his mind. Kiri, too, seemed suddenly at a loss for words.
Neytiri stared back at them, then looked down, closing her eyes. She was the first to speak.
“I…I must think.” She spoke quickly, her voice slightly pained.
She stood to leave. Before she stepped out of the Marui, Jake finally sprung into action, reaching out and grabbed her hand.
“Neytiri, just…wait…”
Before Jake could say more, Neytiri pulled away and left her mate and daughter behind. Once again, Kiri and Jake were alone.
An painful silence filled the Marui. Jake racked his brain to think of what he could say to his daughter. He could barely even think at all…
“Kiri…your mother…she may think Spider is to blame, but I promise it’s not true.” Jake began, thinking he could at least assuage any concerns Kiri may have in that regard. “Spider was with me when Quaritch broke out.”
Kiri said nothing, but she frowned slightly at Jake’s reassurance.
“Kiri, is there…something you want to talk about?” Jake asked hesitantly. He could tell that his daughter didwant to say something, but she wasn’t.
For a moment, Kiri said, and did nothing. Jake prepared to leave, but then his daughter spoke quietly.
“I know you found Spider with Quaritch.”
Jake raised an eyebrow. That was a detail he hadn’t shared with anyone. How could Kiri know?
“It’s…” Kiri continued, looking down as she did. “Just…try to understand, dad. Please don’t hate Spider.”
“Kiri.” Jake put an arm on her shoulder. “I would never hate Spider. No matter what. I promised him, and I promised you I would be there for him, and I will stand by that. But what should I…understand?”
Even as he was asking the question, he had a feeling he already knew what Kiri was referring to. He couldn’tunderstand what exactly was happening with Spider and Quaritch. But he needed to. For Spider’s sake…
Before Kiri had the chance to answer, Jake already added.
“Help me understand. You know Spider. Tell me what…”
But Kiri just shook her head.
“I can’t. I’m not the one who should.”
Jake was disappointed but decided not to press her further on the matter. Slowly, he stood up to leave himself. Just as he did, though, a Metkayina warrior appeared at the entrance, causing both Jake and Kiri to jump.
“Toruk Makto?”
“Yes?”
“I was sent by our Tsahik to tell you…your sky-people friends say their work is done.”
Both Jake and Kiri’s eyes widened at the news. Without saying anything, they set off for the infirmary.
(…)
The constant hiss of the gas container finally grew silent as Norm shut the valve. Quickly, he disconnected the medical mask on Spider’s face, replacing it with a normal respirator.
Behind him, the sounds of various cases of medical equipment being shut signaled that Max had finished packing whatever they could reuse. Norm quickly turned his attention to the various pieces of medical waste scattered around their work area, collecting them in a large trash bag.
Soon, however, they were out of things to pack, and turned their attention pack to their patient.
They had done the best they could with Spider’s injury. Norm had probably never been so concentrated on a single task before. It might have been his best work. Definitely his best medical work.
And yet, for the moment, they were in limbo. All they could do was wait and see how Spider reacted when he woke.
As the minutes passed, Norm raced over what could happen next in his mind. There was no getting around it. The wound had been serious. While they had tried their best…
The scientists both jumped when a weak groan came from the boy laid on a bed in front of them. Quickly, they stood up and approached, keeping an eye on the vitals they were still reading.
After a moment of hesitation, Max spoke.
“Spider…buddy…?”
Slowly, and with a pained groan, Spider opened his eyes to look up at his caretakers.
Spider’s awake. But his arm...?
I know I haven’t really given Neytiri a proper scene in this fic and figured it was about time. I hope you liked my take on her in this AU.
Thanks for reading! 💙

Chapter 2: “Allies come in all forms”
It took a couple of days for the Fentons to calibrate the scanners as well as double and triple check that they were safe to use without hurting Danny. After that, Jack and Maddie worked diligently to create a stabilising agent to help Danielle. Danny couldn’t believe that they were finally going to have some closure with Dani and actually help her in the right way. Then, just as all their planning and preparations were coming together, it was time for Danny and Jazz to go back to school.
With the whole end-of-the-world thing, plus the investigation into Vlad, and the Fentons subsequent partnership with the FBI, suffice to say the kids had been allowed to take a couple of weeks off from school. This gave the young ghost hero and his family plenty of time to adjust to their new norm. Even though some people knew Danny's secret identity now, not everyone did and the family as well as the FBI preferred to keep it that way– both to give Danny some semblance of normalcy, and to prevent excitable members of the public from acting foolish.
The Casper High administration knew that because the family had been involved with the Disasteroid task force, the kids were approved for the time off ‘recommendation’ made by the government. The next Monday both kids would be returning to school. For Danny, that meant it was time to accept the fact that he was going to tell Mr. Lancer his secret.
Although the plan had been to keep Danny’s identity top secret, Maddie suggested that they at least tell Mr. Lancer. Not only was he the teacher that sent Danny to detention the most often, he was also the vice principal. As such, he had a big impact on Danny’s grades. Getting him on their side would surely be a big help.
Jazz wasn’t so sure about that, and Danny agreed. Lancer knowing wouldn't change the fact that he was still going to have to skip class to fight troublemaking ghosts all the time.
It was surprisingly Jack who reminded them that their parents were in fact ghost hunters. They could compare their information with Danny’s and update their techniques to hunt ghosts correctly, especially the ones that appeared during school hours. Maddie added that it was okay to ask for help and sharing some of the work would help Danny learn to manage his time better in a way that would aid him not only in school, but in life as well.
After a lot of back and forth, in the end even Jazz saw it as a good solution. When Danny told Sam and Tucker, at first they were sceptical of the plan, just like he had been, however, with a bit of explaining, they understood why it was a good idea. They knew their friend needed better time management skills after all.
Now, the night before the first day of school, the Fenton family was once again sitting at their kitchen table planning something. It always seemed like the best time for these conversations was over dinner.
“So, just to be clear,” Danny began his summary. “You guys are going to drive us to school in the morning so you can meet with Lancer after first period –which I do have with him. And if anybody asks why you’re hanging around the school, you’re going to say that you’re tracking ghostly activity, right?” “Yeah, that’s the plan, son. It’s that simple!” Jack replied confidently. “You know, you two still need to say that you and ‘Danny’ have finally decided to work together.” Jazz’s air quotes around her brother's name let their parents know she was specifically referring to Danny Phantom. “What are you talking about Jazz? I think just about the whole world knows that...” Danny trailed off when it hit him that she meant Phantom, not Fenton.
“Well, technically, they know that we as a family–and the rest of Amity Park, for that matter–worked with you, Little Brother. But Mom and Dad haven’t exactly said anything official about a permanent truce, or anything else really…” Jazz clarified. “I mean, the people that know, you know… they, well, they know that’s not entirely true, but it’s also not a lie… I mean, they are working with their son...”
“I see what you mean, darling, and you’re right…” Maddie rubbed her chin in thought. “We could mention it at the school before we meet with Mr. Lancer–if anyone asks, that is–that the Fentons are working permanently with the ghost boy. And once we explain your… situation to Mr. Lancer, well, he would understand why we were telling people now.”
They hadn’t thought about how it would look, working with Danny Phantom out of nowhere. They hadn’t thought they needed to make some sort of announcement, but they did. In order to keep people from wondering why, in order to keep Danny’s secret safe.   “Your Mom is right! That would also help to keep your secret, well, secret… wait...” said Jack, getting confused with the whole conversation. Danny sighed, “I guess, you guys are right… but please… don’t overdo it… I can handle it, I have been handling all of it fine.” He was beginning to worry that if their parents allied themselves with him, they were going to be in danger, or something along those lines.
“Don’t worry Little Brother, I have anticipated the most likely questions that people might ask after they hear that our parents are working with Phantom and written them down on these cue cards,” at this she pulled a small stack of cards out of thin air and handed them to their parents, “as well as some pre-planned answers. Stick to these and you won’t overdo it.”  “Oh, that’s great, Jazzy–pants!” said Jack, with a big smile. His children never ceased to amaze him with their ingenuity. He was so proud.
“We’ll read over these, don’t worry Jazz. And thank you,” Maddie added, smiling proudly as well. “Okay… I guess that’s it then,” said Danny feeling a bit defeated. There was nothing he could really do to dissuade his parents.  “Yes, and now it’s getting late, so… kids, bedtime!” Maddie clapped her hands together with cheerful authority. The two teens nodded, said their respective ‘goodnights,’ and went upstairs.
Maddie could see that Danny was still nervous about tomorrow, and she didn’t blame him. Since finding out the truth and helping with the cure for Dani, they had gained a better understanding of how difficult things had been for their son. None of it was easy, but now they had a better idea of what it meant to be a halfa. Although Danny and his parents had learned a lot more about him and what he could do, they also knew that just like Vlad, Danny would continue to grow and develop more powers. Powers that they now knew they were going to be prepared and ready to help him with. After all, they had already managed to isolate Danny’s ghostly signature and alter their weapons so they wouldn't affect him, or Danielle for that matter. Now they only needed to wait for the weekend to finally find Dani.
While Maddie and Jack cleaned up from dinner, the kids met in Danny’s room. Jazz knew her little brother well enough to realise he wasn’t going to just tell someone that he was scared, even though he was. Not that Lancer wouldn’t believe it, but of how he would react. For that reason, for the day that awaits him tomorrow, and the fact that the family had agreed to postpone finding Danielle for the weekend, and knowing that Danny probably wouldn’t sleep well tonight, she went to her brother’s room. There Danny confirmed Jazz’s suspicions, she gently coaxed him into talking out his worries and she did her best to reassure him. Jazz promised that her cue cards would work and that he should give Mr. Lancer more credit. Even though he doesn’t always seem fair –showing favouritism to the football players or occasionally turning a blind eye to Dash’s bullying– she knew that he had helped Danny with his grades, and cared about him as his student; being a half ghost wouldn’t change that.
When Jack and Maddie finally went upstairs to get ready for bed, they overheard part of their children’s conversation. While Maddie was a bit upset with herself for not noticing just how nervous Danny was, she was grateful that Jazz had. Jack also noticed that some comfort was being passed around and he felt a surge of pride that his kids had become such kind and sensitive people.
When the next day arrived, the Fentons set their plan into motion. Jack and Maddie drove their kids to school, right on schedule, although their plans took a slight deviation after that. Rather than waiting in the parking lot with the excuse of ghost hunting, they ended up exchanging insurance information with some of the other parents. As usual, Jack’s driving was… enthusiastic. Sorting things out took them the whole first period, and by the time they got to Mr. Lancer’s office, Danny and Jazz were already there waiting for them.
“Good morning Mr. and Mrs. Fenton,” Mr. Lancer greeted them. “So glad you could join us.” “Morning!” Maddie and Jack replied at the same time, sharing a smile at the coincidence. “You two said that you needed to discuss something with me, but I’m still not entirely sure why these two,” at this Mr. Lancer gestured to where Jazz and Danny were sitting in front of his desk, “need to be here. All Jasmine would tell me is that it's a family matter, and Daniel here seems to be on the edge of a nervous breakdown.”
He looked back and forth between the kids and the parents appraisingly before closing the door to his office and offering them a seat.  With the whole family finally seated in front of Mr. Lancer's desk, Maddie began the explanation, “Well, Jazz is right, this is a family affair. And it’s about Danny...” She checked on her son who seemed to be calming down now that his parents were here. “I see...” said Mr. Lancer, pausing at his desk. “Is this because the school year is about to finish and you’re worried about his grades?” He glanced suspiciously between Danny and his parents. It wouldn't be the first time he’d seen a family rally together to help save a struggling student from being held back a year.
“What? No!” Maddie spluttered. “Well, yes… we are worried about it, but that’s not why we’re here today.” It wasn’t hard to understand why he’d come to that conclusion. It was in part why they were having this conversation, after all.  “Please, Mr. Lancer, wait until after my parents finish. Then you’ll understand what this is all about.” Jazz pleaded, hands clasped in front of her. “It’s all right, Jazz.” Danny murmured, giving her arm a calming squeeze before directing his gaze to his teacher “I kinda figured Lancer would bring that up… I mean… this whole year has been...” “Unprecedented, nightmarish, messy, crazy, ect., ect.?” Mr. Lancer supplied with a raised eyebrow, finally taking a seat at his desk. He seemed like he just caught up with the fact that he was still standing up unnecessarily.
“Yeah. All that. And ghostly…” Danny muttered the last part under his breath, avoiding eye contact with Lancer.
Maddie cleared her throat softly, “Mr. Lancer, if I may… please?” She had noticed that Danny was starting to feel bad and decided it was time to intervene. His grades were as important to him as fighting ghosts, even though it might not look like that from the outside. “Yes, of course, Mrs. Fenton. By all means, please tell me what this is all about.” Mr. Lancer had also noticed Danny’s change in attitude and decided to focus more on the parents, mainly on Maddie seeing as she was the one taking the lead. Jack sat next to her in silent support, but his worry for Danny was plain to see. “Well...” Maddie began, glancing back at Danny who nodded.
Mr. Lancer took notice of the exchange and was about to comment when Maddie finally spoke, interrupting his thoughts.
“Danny is ‘Danny Phantom.’” she said.  “What?” Mr. Lancer spluttered, caught off guard. “What in the name of the Scarlet Pimpernel! That doesn’t make any sense… What’s really going on here? I would have believed something like this from young Daniel…” he stopped, noticing that Maddie seemed to sincerely believe what she was saying.
“Danny,” the boy murmured under his breath. He was a bit annoyed that Mr. Lancer still called him ‘Daniel,’ even in moments like this. Especially in moments like this. “It’s Danny.”
Mr. Lancer looked back and forth between Maddie and her son. He began to worry that something else might be happening, something that the family either doesn’t know about, or doesn’t know how to explain. Because although his student being a ghostly superhero would explain a lot, it was impossible. Wasn’t it?
“Just show him,” Jazz suggested in a loud whisper. She knew that Mr. Lancer would believe him if only he saw it for himself. Knowledge of halfas was global now, so it wouldn’t be hard to make the connection. If they just told him without showing him, he might just think Danny was faking it, using Vlad’s revelation as inspiration.  Danny looked up at his parents who gave him an encouraging nod. “...Fine.” He sounded a bit annoyed to be put in this situation, but proceeded to stand up anyway.
“What are you doi–” Mr. Lancer began to ask. He was getting worried as to why it seemed like everyone knew something he didn’t, because show him what? “Going ghost,” Danny quietly said his catchphrase, transforming into Danny Phantom in a bright flash of light. Mr. Lancer blinked the spots from his eyes, using the silence that followed to process his thoughts. It would seem that their former Mayor wasn’t the only halfa in Amity Park. He had anticipated a few of the more creative kids would probably play pretend at being a ghost and a human at the same time, but never in his wildest dreams could he have anticipated one of his students actually being one.
A single, quiet, “Oh” was all the stunned teacher managed to say.  “Are, are you okay, Mr. Lancer?” Danny prompted, changing back into Fenton and retaking his seat. Maybe that had been a bit too much for him after all.
“You know what Mr. Fenton, that makes a lot of sense...” Mr. Lancer finally said, looking across his desk at Danny. He gave the boy a small, sad, smile, because it did make a lot of sense. “Wait, what?” Danny said, confused. He hadn’t really been expecting that reaction, even though he had assumed that Vlad’s precedent might either help or hurt his situation.
“Well, it does… The skipping school every time there’s a ghost attack, the slacking on your homework, the sleeping in class… All starting around the same time as the ghosts showed up, it makes perfect sense. I’m assuming your whole family knows, and I hope that your parents didn’t know until recently...” Mr. Lancer gave Jack and Maddie a stern look. Just thinking about the hundreds, if not thousands, of times that he saw the Fentons hunting Phantom… it couldn’t be possible, right?
“Of course, we didn’t!” said Maddie quickly. Neither she or Jack wanted this to be like their interrogation with the FBI, they didn’t want to have to defend themselves again. They love their kids, and would do anything to protect them. If they had known it all from the beginning, maybe the thing they needed protection from wouldn’t have been them. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The possibility of losing their kids to child services like the FBI threatened them with at the start had been a rude awakening. “We would never have knowingly hunted our son,” said Jack, the normally jovial man deathly serious. He felt the same as Maddie, remembering how bad the interview with the Feds was, especially at the beginning. “Oh, for the love of… you know what, never mind.” Mr. Lancer shook his head defeatedly. “I’m not going to think about it. I am assuming that isn’t all?”
“You’re right about that,” Maddie sighed, her face serious. “Do you remember when the FBI interviewed our family and practically everyone around us?” She knew she had to say something about it regardless, he would need to understand the conditions that he was bound by now.
Mr. Lancer nodded, allowing her to continue her explanation.
“Well, they know. About Danny... Mr. Lancer, this is highly classified information we’ve just shared with you.” Her eyes pierced his, impressing on him the gravity of the situation. “They said we should keep it secret, only those who already knew and no one else.” “Oh. I see…”  Mr. Lancer’s voice was solemn with understanding. The situation was more serious than what he had originally thought. “So, your friends, Samantha and Tucker...” he raised a questioning brow at Danny. “They know. They’ve known since the beginning, actually.” Danny said with a small shrug.  “Oh, and Valerie knows… Valerie Gray. She found out while we were working on the intangibility transfer device. Well, while her father was working on it, but you know...” he shrugged again.
“I see…” Mr. Lancer nodded. “I understand.” His hunch had been correct, Danny’s friends had been covering for him in class for a while now, and he finally knew why. The mention of Miss Gray was a bit of a surprise, but it made sense if something had happened to reveal Danny’s identity while she and her father had been working on the device. That also meant that the other people who already know are those who were involved with the task force in Antarctica.
“With all that being said, Mr. Lancer,” Maddie called his attention back to her, “while we’re here, we would like your help with Danny’s schedule. I’m sure you’ve noticed that his time management skills could use some improvement.”
“I can agree with that,” Mr. Lancer said, giving Danny a faux stern look.
At this, Jack chimed in, “Now that we know what’s going on, we can help fight the ghosts that appear during school hours. We’ll probably still need to pull him into the field some, though, especially while we’re still getting used to things.”
“Very well, the three of us can continue to discuss a plan, but,” Mr. Lancer glanced up at the clock on the wall, “I think it’s time for Jazz and Danny to go back to class.”
He began to pull some papers out of a drawer in his desk while the Fentons stood up from their chairs. “All right then, I guess we should get going…” Danny said, stretching his arms above his head. He was feeling very relieved that Mr. Lancer was taking it so well and seemed eager to help. He couldn’t stop his smile as he addressed his teacher, “Thank you, Mr. Lancer.”  “Why, whatever for?” he asked with a smile. Mr. Lancer wasn’t exactly sure as to why Danny suddenly seemed more relaxed, but he couldn’t be more proud. He knew that a topic like this one must be hard for the whole family, especially Danny. “Never mind, just… Thank you.” he was still smiling as he slung his backpack over his shoulder.
“Of course,” said Mr. Lancer. He handed Danny and Jazz the papers he had just signed, “Oh, don’t forget these, your hall passes. Just give them to your teachers and your tardiness will be excused. And if there’s anything else I can do… just let me know.”  “Oh, right… Um, thank you,” Danny stuttered out, caught off guard by the kind offer.
Maddie, Jack, and Jazz watched the scene unfold, the three unable to keep the grins off their faces, they knew that all Danny needed was a little understanding and guidance. The three of them exchanged a glance, silently agreeing to each help him in their own ways.
“Let’s go, Little Brother,” Jazz looped her arm through Danny’s and pulled him towards the door, making sure they both had their hall passes. “And thanks again, Mr. Lancer! For everything! Bye, Mom! Bye, Dad!”
“Bye, Sweety!” Maddie called back, “We’ll see you at home later!”
Jack waved, voice booming as he called out, “Bye, kiddos!”
After the kids had gone, the three adults returned to their seats, they had planning to do, after all. Once sitting, Mr. Lancer pulled out a notebook and together they started brainstorming different ways to help Danny, both with school matters as well as ghost fighting activities–because they all knew he wasn’t going to stop anytime soon. They began with an easy schedule that could help Danny better make use of his time. At one point, Lancer proposed to let some of the other teachers know about Danny’s secret, but the Fentons reminded him that the information was highly classified. It’s not the sort of thing you can just go around telling people. They had to fill out so much paperwork with the FBI in order to get approval to tell just him. That’s how Mr. Lancer knew that the issue was very serious. He asked how the FBI was keeping it a secret, but all the Fentons could say was that it was classified, and no, they didn’t know either.
They had been at it for quite a long time when they heard the unmistakable sounds of a fight in the hallway. Mr. Lancer rushed to the door, the Fentons hot on his heels, thankfully, because this wasn’t your average school fight, this was a ghost fight. The three adults arrived at the scene just in time to see none other than Danny Phantom flung into a row of lockers.
Jack and Maddie decided that it was about time they joined in the hunting, that was a big part of their plan, after all. They really needed to be more alert to ghost activity during school hours so Danny could concentrate more in class. Class that Danny certainly wasn’t present for right now, for obvious reasons.
While his parents had stayed to talk with Mr. Lancer, Danny had made his way to his next class. Everything was going well, that is until Danny’s ghost sense went off. He had run out of the classroom, calling a lame excuse to his teacher on the way.
Danny found the ghost in the computer lab, it was none other than Technus. Danny had lost count of which ‘version’ he was supposed to be at this point, and he didn’t really care. Danny only knew that he was up to no good.
Every time Danny fought Technus, he boasted that his plan was better than the last and that he wouldn’t be shouting it out, and each time he failed. This time wasn’t any different. They started in the computer lab, but Danny managed to lure the ghost outside, away from all the technology in the building, only denting a few lockers on the way. Once they were on the lawn, Danny was able to create a distraction and it was in that moment that his parents attacked Technus, weakening him enough that Danny could capture him in the Fenton Thermos.
While the Fentons joined the fight, ecto-guns blazing, it was time for Mr. Lancer to play his part. Danny had probably used an oldie, but a goodie: the Toilet Excuse to get out of class, but it wouldn’t be enough for how long this fight was going to take. He knew which teacher Danny had this period, so he just needed to find a place near that classroom to wait for him and walk him personally back to class. Perhaps he could say that he’d needed the boy’s help carrying some extra textbooks or something. Danny would likely need a place to transform back–something that it would take Mr. Lancer a bit of time to get used to–but he did manage to find a good spot for that.
Once their battle was over, Danny handed the thermos to his parents so they could put Technus back in the Ghost Zone. In turn, his parents gave Danny encouraging nods and proud smiles. It was nice to be appreciated, but Danny really needed to get back to class. He was surprised to find Mr. Lancer waiting for him just inside the school to walk Danny back to his class, fake thanking him for helping with something in his office. When they reached the classroom, Lancer mentioned to Danny’s teacher that he had found Danny just outside the bathroom, and remembered something that he needed help with and Danny was perfect for the job. That explanation to Danny’s teacher was enough to avoid detention again, but it gained him snickers from his classmates. While being the butt of a joke wasn’t ideal, it was a whole lot better than detention. This whole situation might just work out after all.
Danny took a seat at his desk and decided to concentrate as much as possible on today’s lesson. Sam and Valerie tried to ask what happened, but Danny only gave them a quick thumbs up and a smile to let them know it went well. He would give them a more detailed explanation after class or during their lunch break. It was times like these that they really missed Tucker, but they knew that with him being the mayor, private tutoring was the best option for him.
At least for the rest of the day Danny wouldn’t need to worry about getting detention or fighting ghosts. He knew that his parents were going to be patrolling around the school, Lancer had his back at school, and the ghost of the day-or at least for the time being- was trapped in the Fenton Thermos. He could just relax with his girlfriend and Valerie, and he would get to do a video call with Tucker during the lunch break.
Things were looking good, after all this time, even though it had been a lot of new things to get used to. Danny never thought –even when he had seen it before– that it would feel so good telling people his secret. Of course, he wasn’t just going to go around telling people left and right, it had to be to select people. Letting Mr. Lancer into the fold had been more strategy than anything else, but it was still nice to have him on the team.
The day ended without further incident. Team Phantom enjoyed talking with their mayor friend during lunch. They caught him up with the situation at the school and told him how Lancer had reacted to the news. Tucker, likewise, updated them with the news of his personal proposal.
Because the last mayor had been a crazy halfa, and his teenage ghost hunters were fired and dismissed, the whole town had been under siege by ghost attacks. Something needed to be done, and it was going to take a lot of work for the city to recover. Tucker, as the mayor selected after a major disaster like this, would have to step up to the plate. It would be a full time job, with no time to go to school. So, the rest of the politicians and personnel of the city council decided that the best course of action was that he should have private tutors, since he hadn't graduated from high school just yet. Tucker, since winning the election and realising, or rather learning, that he wouldn’t be able to go to Casper high any longer, began working on a proposal. It was as follows: he would serve as mayor until the next election, at which point he would leave his position until later in life, should he wish to run for re-election. With his parents' help, Tucker had proposed his return to Casper high in the next school year to the city council. They had approved it, but in the meantime, Tucker had to pass his classes and learn more about politics, especially those of Amity Park. He was allowed to communicate with his old friends only during breaks, however his private tutors made sure that his schedule was similar to what he was used to. Those tutors also knew about his friends and about Danny’s secret identity, but they wouldn't say a word, not only because they got a ‘friendly’ warning from the FBI, but because they had always considered him a hero, even before he had become recognized as both a local and global hero by everyone else.
Danny Fenton was happy with how everything seemed to be working out. His parents and Mr. Lancer had come up with a good plan to help him out during school hours. They helped him to create a better way to manage his time after school that not only would allow him to keep fighting ghosts when needed, but to also just be a teen. He would have time to take care of his responsibilities, homework and chores and the like, as well as to have fun with his friends. Danny never thought that all he needed was a little help with time management. His grades were already improving, and with the rest of the school year to go, he knew he would pass his classes.
Just like that, the time flew by and the week turned into the weekend. It was finally time to look for Danielle. To be continued :D :D

Fluffy Feb Day 5- Words of Affirmation
Tumblr media
Warnings: platonic relationship, BAU reader, brief mentions of case involving kids (no details)
Pairing: Hotch x blank slate Fem!Reader (no use of y/n)
Word Count: 902
Your performance review couldn’t come at a worse time, in your opinion. You’re fresh off of a hard case; those involving children are always the worst. Everyone is exhausted, not helped by the late hour that you land back in Quantico, but reports need to be written and files need to be filed, so you end up back at the office right from the airstrip.
Halfway through your second cup of coffee and squinting at the folder in your hands, you look up to see Hotch standing near your desk. He shoots you an apologetic smile, then lifts the folder he’s holding. Your name is written on the tab, and you groan when you realize what it is.
“Performance reviews. I hope you don’t mind, but they’re due by 9 AM,” he explains, and you get to your feet. “We can do it in the morning if you prefer.”
That’s almost laughable because it’s nearing 1 AM already, so you just shake your head and start in the direction of his office. “Let’s get it over with.”
Your attitude isn’t exactly stellar, but you know that after the week you’ve had, he’ll understand. Hotch follows you up the steps to his office, seating himself behind the large mahogany desk before he sets the file down.
“Are you okay?” He asks, his voice gentle, and you know that this isn’t part of the review. “I know this case wasn’t an easy one.”
‘I’m fine’ is on the tip of your tongue, ready to be said so you can get on with the review, but instead, you sigh out a tired, “I’ve been better. How are you doing?”
“I’m alright. Thank you.” Hotch opens the folder and removes a few papers, but you narrow your eyes at him.
He’s got a shield up, as he so often does. Especially now, on those days that he feels the need to appear strong for the sake of the team. It makes something in your chest ache for him; the rest of the team can bitch and moan and whine all they want about the workload and long hours, but Hotch’s shield never falters. Who can he talk to, about the things you’ve seen and the lives you live out in the field?
“I’m serious,” you insist. “That was probably the worst week of my life since I’ve started here, and I don’t even have a kid. Hotch, talk to me.”
The smile he gives you is half-placating, half-grateful. It gets on your exhausted nerves more than it should. “I am. I’m trying to do your review, remember?”
His light tone doesn’t lend itself to your good graces. “The sheriff was a dick,” you tell him, and his smile becomes a little more genuine at that.
“We’re supposed to call that ‘unreasonable’.” His correction comes quickly, as you knew it would, but there’s no mistaking the amusement in his eyes.
“Fine. He was an unreasonable unreasonable-head, and you dealt with him more than anyone else did, and I don’t know how you didn’t rip his head off.”
Hotch’s head ducks slightly, as though he’s unused to the recognition, and it makes you frown. Case after case, he commends your efforts and those of the rest of the team with little comments made here and there. You’re no stranger to hearing that you’ve done well in an interrogation, and you’ve heard Morgan complimented for his takedown of an unsub more than once.
So, who’s saying that stuff to Hotch?
He clears his throat and looks down at his paper, but you’re not done talking. “You did really well handling the victim’s family, too,” you add, if only to see his lips press together into what has become a repressed smile. “I could see that they felt safer after you spoke to them.”
“Yes. Well,” he clears his throat, “Thank you. The family is one of our top priorities.”
“I know that. I’m just saying; you’re good at your job, Hotch.” You shrug one shoulder, trying to play off your words with nonchalance for his comfort. It works, and you can see the moment he relaxes slightly and some tension drains from his shoulders and their stiff posture.
“That’s kind of you to say,” he says, and you can tell that you’ve flustered him. It’s almost time to back off, you can tell, but you’re not quite done yet.
“Honest.” Your correction comes as swiftly as his earlier one did. “You’re in charge for a reason. We wouldn’t be half the team we are without you.”
This time, when Hotch clears his throat and looks down at the paper, you don’t interrupt. His cheeks are tinted with the lightest pink, and he seems intent on not looking back at you.
“Okay, Agent.” When he speaks after a minute, his tone is final but it’s also more casual. Relaxed. “We should get on with the review; it’s getting late.”
“Of course.” You relax into your chair in turn as he leafs through a couple of pages, and the moment gives you time to profile him despite your silent agreement that you never would.
His head is ducked, but not enough to hide the upturned corners of his mouth, and you make a mental note to compliment him in the field more often. He deserves it more than anyone, and you’re happy to be the one to give it to him.
