At this point, you might need a calendar just to coordinate all the ways the brothers were monopolizing your time.

Going shopping with Mammon and Asmo, gaming with Levi, visiting museums and botanical gardens with Satan. And that was just the Avatars – all the times Luke asked you to join another baking session and Solomon wanted to teach you another spell and Thirteen wanted to test another trap on you.

Naturally, all hell was about to break loose, when Satan would meet Asmo in the hallway. Or when Mammon would ask Levi to game with him. Or when Belphie would plan to fall asleep on the couch next to you, only to find the library empty.

Foreseeing as you were, you were already on your way to hide in the only place no one would dare to enter: Lucifer’s bedroom. The eldest had taken a good chunk of his paperwork up there a while ago and surely he wouldn’t mind some company as long as you were quiet and left him to his work.

“Come in”, he invited you as you knocked on his door, but frowned when he realised you were carrying along a blanket and a bag of crisps.

“What on earth are you doing?”

“I need some alone time.”

“So you decide to bother me?”

“Jeez, Luce. I’ll leave you alone, just let me stay? Please?”

This was when one brow was raised and a smirk formed on his lips. He turned completely towards you in his chair: “Oh? Suddenly so desperate for my company?”

“I always am, you know that.” You plopped down on his couch, put your arms up on the backrest and smiled at him sweetly.

It took him maybe a second to stand in front of you and pull you up by your hair until you were facing each other. “Is that so? Because lately you don’t seem to care for my company at all, love. In fact, I feel like you might need a little reminder why you should.”

You could only huff, pain shooting through your nerve ends. He threw you back onto the couch and started loosening his tie. You just watched in awe, as he slowly stripped down, torn between rubbing your aching scalp and gawking at his muscles. You guessed that it had been a while…

Lucifer stopped in his tracks: “You’re going to regret every second it takes you to undress.” He slipped his belt out of its loops. “One.”

You knew better than to test him. “Two.” Why was it so hard to get out of skinny jeans? “Three.” The demon was losing his shoes and pants, strutting over to his little cabinet of pain.

It took you 12 seconds. You threw a horrified glare towards your significant other when he returned to you with six ropes, all in as deep a red as his eyes. He did not talk to you while he placed them around you: Around your torso, caressing your skin, but never grazing where you wanted him to most. Around your wrists, placing little kisses around them, but never looking up at you. Around your thighs, prying your legs apart and tying you up in a way that constricted you from closing them.

At the end of it all, you were laying on his bed, face planted into his satin pillows and receiving blow after blow on your bare ass. “Six. For the way you danced with Mammon and Satan and Mephistopheles, of all of them, but could not spare a moment for me at Lord Diavolo’s gala.”

“Eight. For using my room as a refuge when you finally got sick of their antics.”

“Nine. For that being the only reason you show up at my door after two weeks.”

DAY 6: Secret Santa gift exchange

Levi x Hange

“Too gaudy.”

“Too cheap.”

“Too predictable.”

Levi looked through the various items available at the market, a man on a mission. He’d been chosen as Hange’s Secret Santa, and was determined to find them the perfect gift.

Hange was a hoarder, to say the least. To them, everything had value — sentimental or experimental — and their office was filled to the brim with books, trinkets, and odds and ends.

So what do you get the person who has everything?

It was a conundrum Levi had not yet found the answer to, walking from vendor to vendor; with only three days left, he was running out of time.

Then, walking by an art and hobby market, inspiration struck. “It’s stupid,” he thought to himself. But at this point, what choice did he have?

In the days to follow, Levi was rarely seen aside from training and meetings. “Levi, do you want to go into Trost with me?” Hange asked. “We can pick up some tea while we’re there.”

“No time, four-eyes. I have things to do.” He says to them without even a second glance.

The next day, Hange sees him grabbing some bread in the mess hall for breakfast. “Levi! Come join us!” They gesture to their table.

“Can’t. I’m busy,” he remarks as he’s making his way out the door.

“What’s up with him?” Hange puzzles. The others at the table remark with shrugs.

On the day of the Christmas party, everyone arrives in high spirits, their Secret Santa gift in hand before placing it under the Christmas tree. Levi comes in a little later and sneaks past Hange to place his present amongst the others.

Nanaba hands out the presents to each person and when Hange receives theirs, they instantly start shaking it.

“I wonder what’s in here? It barely makes a sound.”

Each person takes a turn opening their gift and trying to guess who it’s from. Once it’s Hange’s turn, they tear into the wrapping paper and open the box. Inside is two small titan dolls, one slightly bigger than the other.

Hange handles each of their felt bodies with care. “This is handmade.” They look at the stitching, the button eyes, the wool hair. “Wait a minute…Is this Sonny and Bean?”

Hange holds them close, their eyes becoming glassy, just a bit. “This is….it’s just…” They look around the group, trying to figure out who would have gone to such lengths to make or buy such a thoughtful gift. As they gaze each face, some amused, others confused, there’s one with a slight reddish tinge to his cheeks, his eyes cast down and looking anywhere but at Hange.

“Levi…is this from you?”

He crosses his arms. His silence confirms what everyone thinks.

“And did you make this?”

“Is it that obvious? I guess it is kind of shitty work.”

Hange crosses the room and immediately pulls Levi into an embrace. “It’s the sweetest gift anyone has given me. Thank you.”

Their comrades give shouts of oohs and aahhhs before Levi pushes them away. “Ok, ok, that’s enough.” But the growing blush of his cheeks shows that he’s pleased with Hange’s response. He rubs the back of his neck.

“I’m glad you like it.” He finally responds, shyly.

partly inspired by HOLOLIVE's cover of ochame kinou and bc i want to have my own vtuber in the future but bee is too broke and it's pc can barely handle streaming </3

eventually, they came across your livestream, which happened to be your debut

so that's who you were...

levi had mentioned (several times) that there was a rumor of another vtuber coming to light from his favorite vtuber company, livedevil (one of the most prominent vtuber companies in the devildom)

"hey levi," mc called, "look it's the vtuber you were talking about. here i'll send you the link on devilcord so we can watch it on your pc."

eventually, levi pulled up your stream up and made sure the sound went through his speakers

"hi everyone! welcome, welcome!" your voice rang out loud and clear, your little avatar moving along when you spoke

needless to say, cupid's arrow shot straight through levi's heart at that exact moment

your voice was just so calming and nice to listen to, plus your vtuber model was super cool-looking!

as you went through your introduction powerpoint, levi listened to every word you spoke

at the end, you gave out your streaming schedule for the week and levi screenshotted it

he was sure to join your devilcord server too

"wow, they seem super cool." mc smiled.

"yeah, i'll be sure to attend as many of their streams as i can!" levi exclaimed determinedly

true to his word, levi attended all and any of your streams

sure, that was his name on most of his social media platforms, but hearing it from you made his heart do a few leaps

you eventually dm-ed him on the streaming website, and he wasted no time in friending you

A Summer’s Night

Keishin Ukai x Reader

Summary: The two of you sneak out as children to escape the realities of the world and to enjoy the sweet ambiance of a summer’s night, but life always catches up and the years separate the two of you, but will fate and chance...and maybe a bit of meddling drive the two of you back together?

First time writing a Haikyuu one shot!!!! Sorry for typos, I started this last night and fell asleep and picked it back up between my classes

The crickets chirped alongside the buzzing of the mosquitoes that floated and buzzed on their never ending hunt for blood. They waited for any unsuspecting victim to land upon. Though your hand came crashing down upon a brave one that had tried to land upon your calf, though you froze at the sound of the harsh slap, looking back to your home over you shoulder as you paused, the door halfway closed. The silence that was met from the house sent a wave of relief through you as you finally closed the door shut, shoes clumsily tossed to the porch below to allow your feet to shove themselves in before you were running through the grass of your front yard, disturbing the crickets that jumped out and passed your feet to knock into your legs within the dimness of the moon and stars above. You only continued your running past the road and along the levis of the rice field and through the rows of plants of a farmer’s crop. Fireflies only shined and sparkled as they calmly watched your form continue it’s hurried place.

“Keishin...!” You finally whispered out once you stopped in front of a house, head whipping around to look about the yard and to the crops that surrounded it, though finally you jumped as you saw a door slide open and closed, a familiar buzzed head now appearing before you. Keishin was still clumsily shoving on his own shoes and straightening out the slightly baggy hoodie that hung off of his body slightly. Keishin was your best friend, always had been. The two of you would race to each other’s homes after school, would help out on the farms the two of you lived upon, spend summers together, and of course sneak out to meet each other on those very summer nights too. It was a habit that just...stayed for some reason. Sometimes the two of you would even make the journey to his grandfather’s house to play with one of Keishin’s volleyballs using his grandfather’s net....but you were never any good, but you liked the way Keishin would laugh at your own clumsiness. Also one time Granpa Ukai had woken up too, but thankfully the two of you quickly dipped out before he noticed...but you always had a sneaky suspicion that the old man knew something was up because he would always give you two a knowing look when the two of you would go to help with chores around his home.

“Sorry I’m late....my mom was walking around the kitchen, so I think she was having trouble sleeping, but I waited a bit until I think she fell asleep.” Keishin whispered out as he repositioned the tucked blanket he had under his arm, now stepping forward, motioning you to follow. “Bet I can beat you to the pump.” He said with a snort before bolting off, you giving a little gasp of disapproval before racing after him, your tinny legs almost being able to catch up with his, but his legs were far longer and he of course made it to the rusted water pump, blanket already in his hands and carefully being tossed out to the ground.

“No fair! Your legs are longer than mine!” You complained as you sat upon the blanket with a huff, he only rolling his eyes as he sat beside you now shoving his hands into his coat pocket, casting a glance at you. That’s glance moved into a sassy eye roll as he let his eyes wash over the crops that rolled out before the two of you in what seemed to go on forever. These summer nights were always the best. Just the two of you either talking away or enjoying the silence and company of each. Of course the mosquitoes were a con to all of it, but for these moments you would suffere any insect bite.

Except for a wasp....and maybe bees....those always hurt more than anything! Though you guessed you could deal with it even then, Keishin always knew how to nurture and tend to those stings that were afflicted upon you if your summer adventures ended up in an angered stinging insect’s path.

“Well then get longer legs...” Keishin finally teased you as he looked back to you, your tiny fist soon crushing down on his shoulder, the two of you now shooting off in a racket of giggles and laughs as the two of you chased each other through the fields, leaves rustling with the gust of wind your bodies would leave behind underneath the night stars and the bugs that tried to reach with all their might to touch them.

The years went on though and high school had hit. The two of you had stepped upon the school grounds of Karasuno with childish excitement, Grandpa Ukai trying to hurriedly explain where each and every area was and beckoning his teases in his rough way to say I love you to you and Keishin as the two of you rushed off and of course a reminder to join the boys volleyball club to Keishin and a possible manager position to you. Though that never really happened. It seemed like an ocean had began to form between you and your dear childhood friend. First it began with him always on about volleyball. You just didn’t understand, that wasn’t your fault or his. Your interest just didn’t settle their anymore. You joined the art club. Your allegiance was held there. The paint brushes and sketch books beckoned you with such a warm embrace. Keishin didn’t understand that love, which again wasn’t his fault or your own. Life just happens and people are always constantly evolving with what they like and dislikes. Sadly the two of you were just now the complete opposite. You were in the college prep classes as well, he wasn’t.

The ocean just continued to grow and grow, the rushing waves and strong tides tugging the two of you further and further away until your fingertips just couldn’t hold on tight enough no matter how much strength and might you put in. The two of you had created and tagged along with new friend groups and now pursued totally different things. Though late in the summer nights you would always let the sadness creep in to remind you of how much you missed chasing and running around into the late hours upon his family’s farm and a tear would always be shed for those fond and far off memories of your childhood friend.

Graduation was now far off in the distance and you used your free time as a freelance painter and of course a manga drawer that would be published within the black and white pages of the town’s newspaper, but that was mostly targeted towards the elderly residents. Then a part time job at your family’s little restaurant. You lived a happily and those high school memories now far off and hazy, the faces barely even memorable.

“Grandpa Ukai! I know I don’t see you doing these silly things out in this hot weather!” You called out as you pushed past the front gate, a basket balanced upon your hip. The children he was instructing now giggled at your scold and of course held a bit of fear at you talking to an elder in that manner, but of course the old man only waved you off as you sat upon the steps leading onto the porch of his house, bottle of water now brought up to his lips as you sat the basket beside him.

“Oh hush....they let me leave the hospital, therefore I am fine!” He spat out in a grouchy manner, though his face lit up as you handed him a scroll, his old fingers now unraveling it to admire the painting upon it. “Ah! Now this is art! Thank you! Let me go get the money.” He huffed at as he was preparing his old joints to lift him up from his spot, though you only waved him off.

“Now, let’s settle for a trade, I’ve been eyeing some of the produce that your little garden over there is producing.” You pointed out with a laugh, which he clicked his tongue with disdain.

“You aren’t gonna make any money with trades.” He huffed out, though he motioned a hand to the garden. “But be my guest, that damn thing is producing too much and I can’t eat it or sell it quick enough before the sun gets it or the wasp for that matter.” Ikkei grumbled as he watched you gather up your basket, he now up and telling the neighborhood kids to continue practicing, now standing beside you as you had squat down to be eye level with his plants, hands now expertly picking what was good, the leaves rustling as you pushed them aside to let your eyes wonder through their twist and turns on your little hunt for ripe vegetables. Though the old man was now beside you, placing vegetables carefully in your basket. “You know....Keishin wasn’t here not too long ago, had a little shrimp here to help learn a few things.” The man mumbled out with a sigh, you only casting a glance to him, but he continued on. “He may be an idiot, but I say he’s quite handsome, people do say he looks like a younger me.” He said which that got a little giggle from you “That boy is still single though along with you! You two are two old now! What if the two of you want to have children and what not.” He continued on, though you only gave a playful roll of your eyes.

“Grandpa Ukai, these days you shouldn’t pressure people to get married because they are getting too old.” You spoke out with a sigh as you looked over to him. “Besides, it’s not easy finding the right one either. Sometimes it takes time and patience which you lack sometimes.” You pointedly said to him which he only gave a sassy ‘humphf’ as he motioned for you to take the vegetables in his hands to place away in your basket. “And married life isn’t always for everyone you know.” You said in a sing song voice to try and lighten the seemingly heavy topic. You had gotten enough of this lecture from your own family, hearing from Ikkei just already set your brain into a hazy exhaustion.

“You and Keishin are both stubborn.....ever since the two of you were children....sneaking out to mess up my net after I told the two of you to ask first...” he muttered out, you freezing as you shot a glance to him, fingers almost busting the tomato in your hands. “The two of you were always loud even if you thought you were quieter than a mouse living amongst the shrines in my back yard.” Ikkei added with a chuckle as you looked away in slight embarrassment at the newly discovered blunder of your childhood. “Oh! The though I do have a favor to ask!” He groaned at as he lifted himself up from his own squaring position once your basket was almost full to the brim, now motioning you to follow him as he reach through the opening of his sliding doors to pull out a stalk of bananas, placing them within your basket to then draw over the cheese cloth you had brought along with you. “Bring this to the boy’s volleyball gym, they need the potassium.” He spoke out in a scolding manner. You have a nod of your head and a quick bow to the elder before you, but you couldn’t help but give him a quick squeeze and a kiss upon the old man’s cheek, just as you would always do as a child whenever you and his grandson would take the walk over to visit him. “Oh now get out of here before I make you do more work.” He huffed out after the platonic display of affection, trying to keep his rough exterior as you gave a quick wave, the front gate now slamming shut behind you and the kids already pestering the old volleyball coach with questions.

The grounds of Karasuno always gave you a deep sense of nostalgia just by looking at it, but walking upon those very courtyards and sidewalks just made the feeling even deeper within your heart as you took your time walking along the sidewalks that meandered through the school’s ordinary campus. The hazy memories of your years there seemed to slowly float arround you, the images of blurry faces people walking by or the lines of memorable conversations seemed to float through the air. The friends you made and kept after those days appeared within your head, the proudest works of art you accomplished in your club, and the pride your parents felt with your accomplishments and grades. Keishin’s face would try to slip by....but really no memories could come with it. There were no memories of Keishin to float by of his buzzed, high school self, only the ones of him and you as a child.

As you grew closer to the gym in question, you could hear the banging and slamming of balls, the bickering and booming voices of the teenage boys within, and the screeches and squeaks of their sneakers upon the polished hardwood floor. With those noises came the face of Keishin, but you only side as you pushed away, hand now sliding the door open, the team within stopping their practice to look over.

“I...Grandpa....I mean former Coach Ukai told me to bring these over.” You spoke out, a little embarrassed at the burning gaze of the young students before you, though a man was already stumbling forward, his blonde hair texture by the bleach and dye upon the strands pushed back with a head band as he bowed before you, now motioning for one of the young men to come forward.

“Thank you ma’am.” Spoke out what you assumed to be the captain, the other boys now excitedly speaking out their thank you’s as well when you assumed the club sponsor gave the ok for them to dig into their little treat. Though you looked back up to the man before you. Those eyes seemed to bore into you, almost a hopeful look melded within his pupils. Though you couldn’t quite place your that face...though it seemed so familiar.

“That old man needs to take it easy.....” finally muttered out the man before you, which nodded your head as you looked to the team now eating their bananas, listening to the ambiance of their teases, arguing, and plain conversations, though once you finally looked back to the other, it seemed to click. It might have been how the lights hit his face, because the name Keishin finally popped within your brain like an exploding balloon, those childhood memories playing like a film within your head.

“Keishin? I barely recognized you...” you finally managed out, a soft blush of embarrassment as you looked to him with eyes wide with shock, he only sheepishly scratched the back of his neck as he looked down to you.

“Yeah....it’s been awhile....why don’t we step outside? Boys! Continue your drills once your done eating, but take it easy so you don’t throw it up!” He yelled to the team who shouted their acknowledgment to his words.

The two of you now stood within the summer sun that was beginning to make its route that led it closer and closer to the horizon. A cigarette was now tugged out from it’s carton and hanging from his lips, the red embers glowing it’s soft orange as he would inhale.

“It’s been awhile....” he finally spoke out as he flicked the ashes to the cement below, you now sat upon the steps to the gym, basket beside you. “Grandpa always mentioned what you were doing and that you still went to visit, but I would always miss you.....bad luck I guess.” He muttered out, smoke snaking out from his nose and mouth as he spoke out after a drag from his cigarette.

“Grandpa Ukai mentions you too....he didn’t mention that you were the volleyball coach however...I wish he would have prepared me a little.” You joked as you rested your elbows upon your knows, chin rested upon your hands as you looked out to the horizon where the other buildings or the school stood against along with a tree hear and there, the far off buildings of the town and the power lines that stretched forever and ever. “I didn’t recognize you with that hair.....last I saw you-“

“I had a buzz....yeah....grandma and that old man weren’t too happy in the beginning, but I think they have gotten use to it.” He said with a little laugh as he finally let himself rest beside you, the basket now cozily tucked between the two of you.

“So....what are you doing now? Anything else other than coaching?” You soon asked through the silence that fell between you, now looking over to him, the smell of his smoke now wafting into your nose, the smell Alamo slightly comforting. Maybe it was only comforting because now you knew it was him who smelt like that.

“I took over the convenience store from mom, so I’m running that now.” He said with a little smile. “It’s not so bad, it was one of the places we would frequent the most.” He said with a little snort at the memories of you and him bursting through the front door with such pride and excitement as the two of you would beg for a meat bun and a cool drink to go along with it.

“Your mother would end up threatening us with the broom if we wouldn’t get out of we planned on just playing around and not helping.” You continued on with a soft smile, waiting for him to continue you.

“And then the farm, I help with the farm now, well I mostly do everything, I don’t want to rely on my parents to help me with everything you know...” he said as he flicked the cigarette again, now rolling it within his veined hands, you nodding your head.

“Good, I would have been disappointed if they would have gotten rid of it, I have too many fond memories of that place...” you commented as you as watched the ashes from his cigarette float down to sputtered out onto the cement below.

“All those nights......” he softly spoke out

“Yeah...” you said with a smile of fond remembrance as it seemed the two of you sat in a silence to let those memories play within your head, but it was soon interrupted by Keishin clearing his throat, his gruff voice now following after.

“And you? That old man tells me things, but who knows if that ancient brain of his got it all right.” He joked as he snuffed out the butt of the cigarette on the ground, tossing it into the trash to only light another one, you humming as you thought out your response.

“I help with mom and dad’s restaurant, mostly serving on my free time and helping with the book keeping and cleaning and whatnot, the things that they are just too tired to do anymore, but I have a feeling I’m going to take over it soon.” You spoke with a smile as your hand reached down to roll the aglet of your shoe lace within your fingertips. “And then I paint by commission, Grandpa Ukai is my most prized client at this point and then cartons for the paper, but they are usually just political and whatnot, stuff the old timers enjoy.” You said with a giggle as you looked up, your gaze meeting Keishin’s but a jolt of your heart quickly brought your gaze away and back to the cracked, cement side walk ahead of you. “I Uh....don’t make him pay though most of the time, instead I trade.” You explained quickly, motioning to th basket beside you. “That man is insufferable though, he needs to take it easy, but he was scurrying all over the place with the neighborhood volleyball crazed kids and he lectured me on not being married.” You said with a little laugh to try and push aside that racing heart within your chest.

“You aren’t?” Keishin asked quickly after you spoke, smoke now racing through his nostril with his exhale as you looked to him.

“And you aren’t?” You almost spat back defensively, a blush crawling upon your cheeks as you stared at him, he now taken aback, a blush upon his own cheeks as he puffed from his cigarette.

“I asked first!” He quipped back, you only giving a small frown.

“A date here and there, but they don’t work out.” You finally answered him with your arms crossed and rested upon your knees, now you looking to him, eyebrows raised in anticipation for his answer.

“Dry...” was all he said with a huff, you humming a bit, letting out a little ‘huh’ of surprise. “What...what is that suppose to mean?” He quickly asked you which you only gave a little laugh.

“Nothing, just expected you to have a girl or something, even if your parents and grandparents think you look wild there must be plenty of girls in this prefecture that you could woo.” You spoke teasingly, a grouchy scrunch of his face taking over his features as he gave a huff.

“The same could go far you, couldn’t it? A beautiful girl like you should have a boyfriend or something.” He grumbled out, a soft blush now back upon your cheeks as you gave him a glance, your lips almost seeming to be sealed shut by his compliment to you.

“Touché...” was all you could manage out as you fiddled with your hands, the silence now engulfing the two of you once more, a childhood memory being remember and spoken about that would leave the two of you in wistful sighs of the old days or in tears of laughter at the childhood stupidity displayed and executed by the two of you. Though finally that second cigarette was tossed and the two of you were now up, bottoms cold and stuff from sitting so long on those cement steps.

“It was nice seeing you again..” he spoke out, hands shoved in the pockets of his track pants, you now balancing the basket upon your hip, head giving a soft sigh. You didn’t quite want to leave. It had felt like your friend was finally grasping onto your finger tips again across that ocean between the two of you and you feared that leaving would break that little grasp once more. He surely felt the same as well as he didn’t make an effort to move to the open gym door. Though almost silently and knowingly, a slightly older man was handing him off a notepad and a pen before walking off to talk tot he team members and also to the two managers, Keishin now staring to the notepad and pen, mind seemingly blanket before he was already scribbling down something and snapping the paper off the pad before handing it to you. “My number....” he seemed to almost nervously say, you taking it gently before grabbing the pad and pen from him to scribble something down as well before handing it back.

“And there’s mine....though you probably could have gotten it from either your grandma or grandpa, they tend to call me regularly too.” You spoke out, the two of you letting out your nervous laughs, but even then with that grip retightening and becoming stronger between you and him across that ocean filled with dangerous tides and waves, you still were hesitant to begin your steps away, gazes still locked onto each other. Finally though you turned your back to him, a blush upon your cheeks as you seemed to hurry away, Keishin still seemingly star stuck at those cement steps until an argument caught his attention and he was soon yelling and scolding his team.

Now it was as if your hands were now held together before you and him, almost in a soft and gentle handshake, maybe even sharing a loving squeeze. The two of you now standing upon the calm waves and waters of that ocean, met with the silence with now the both of you left to stare at each other. There was no need to now grip onto the very tips of each other’s fingers in the ocean of life that seemed to only moments ago rip between the two of you. The visualization was strange within your mind, but it brought your heart thumping within your chest at what this new stance within you and Keishin’s life, your childhood friend, the friend lost to the world by now found once more.

I absolutely didn’t go back through and edit this at all and hardly any of this is verbatim but I tried to take notes on some of what Mae Catt said during her stream if anyone is interested!

EDIT: Here’s a cleaner post with most of the Q&A.

She says she doesn’t want to yuck anybody’s yums re: ships. She seems Arcee and Grimlock more as friends, but she didn’t say they can’t be in a relationship

They fell in love with Perceptor so they wanted him on the “End of the World fighting the Quintessons” team

They had to dedicate a lot of effort into Dead End b/c it takes time to send in info for modeling a character and deciding on their alt mode

She was pitching Obsidian from Beast Machines really hard. She didn’t know what his personality would be it was just a “Look how cool he is!” sort of thing

Thought it’d be fun to have someone pessimistic like Dead End be on the team

“According to us, Drift did not make it, but I fully endorse whatever you want”

“The brand team had grown up on the toys as we had grown up on the toons, so we just wanted to make the best thing imaginable.” That’s nice

Rodimus was never considered for the show “it’s been covered to death”, but they were adamant about portraying Hot Rod as someone who wanted to be a leader

Hot Rod is someone who is learning to be a leader

“Please don’t tell JRO I forgot about Whirl” re: talking about why they chose each character for the “Anti-Quintesson” team

Q: Re: Why did Drift try to kill Roddy A: They said they needed a double-agent and they needed someone who would (seemingly) kill Hot Rod

She loves that Optimus is just trying so hard to rebuild Cybertron, I just want society to start rebuilding

Q: Since you mentioned Optimus's death... he didn't seem to have a plinth in "our" Matrix realm. Does that mean the list of Primes works differently? Like are the 13 more of a dynasty, rather than all being a group together? A: They decided Optimus would be in the Alt! Universe matrix because they wanted to show he was dead. Logical backflips because he needed to be among the 13 to talk to Windblade.

She says Starscream’s death hurt her most

They didn’t want to kill people off willy-nilly for shock value

She almost wanted Starscream to emerge from the Judge heads untouched but she’s ultimately glad that idea got shot down

Dead End’s eyes are white

These characters are like grown ups (kinda) with their own lives that we don’t see. Lots of stuff happening between episodes

“Rumble and Frenzy are always considered in my heart, but there wasn’t enough time or space or assets to do so”

“Alt Soundwaves also had their own Laserbeaks. I wonder if the scientist would’ve taken them out. He might’ve just gotten rid of them.”

“A lot of intelligent life is inherently mechanical” explaining why so much of the life we saw in the show were robots

She would’ve liked to have the other shows show up (TFP, TFA, G1, Shattered Glass) but they don’t have those assets or budget. “This will quickly become unclear to audiences who aren’t (you people).” They couldn’t have all these references when some of their audience wouldn’t get it

“Why does anyone collect what they collect? That’s a really angry dad who’s got five children and he plays music. Gotta have that” --re: the Scientist and Soundwave

Knock Out was considered but every Transformer under the sun was discussed at some point in the Writer’s room.

Developing Sky-Byte’s character was simultaneous with Jetfire’s character, "We knew we wanted Sky-Byte to be a poet, and we wanted him and Megatron to be chummy”

From the getgo they didn’t want any humans distracting from the Transformers

Q: Is Megatron dead? A: “In discussions we wanted to kill him. Wanted to do a reverse Optimus death. However, in the final product, I kinda enjoy the ambiguity rather than the final decision. Can’t remember if we were decisive about that in the script.”

She wanted them to have IDW Tarn in there “OBVIOUSLY (the perfect decepticon) should look like this guy. A faceless mindless Decepticon that only serves Megatron”

Q: Is Dead End a good boyfriend? A: Dead End is a work in progress, but maybe Percy is patient enough to get him there

Q: Is Astrotrain a good boyfriend?” A: “No, no...he’s not a good person, really”

“When I was desperately trying to save Starscream’s life even though I brutally murdered Slipstream--” LMAO She wanted Starscream to have amnesia and she says she wanted to have a redeption arc. She wanted him to have a Windblade shard and have it be kind of like Castaway, where he only talked to it (and the shard only had 5 phrases it could say) and eventually Bee would befriend him Wanted to write Starscream as an abuse victim who expected the worse of the Autobots, but she wanted him to warm up slowly

Wanted a Starscream and Optimus episode where he’s like “you did your best and that’s what counts”

Q: Is Percy a good boyfriend A: “Absolutely--WAIT HOLD ON. He’s very blunt, he doesn’t mince words, if you can handle his bluntness then you’re good. He is what he is and you have to deal with him.”

Q: Is Soundwave a good boyfriend? A: Soundwave is not a good boyfriend. He’s a good casual romance but he’s not a good boyfriend. Soundwave would be a terrible listener. He hears a lot but he’d tune you out.

Percy did permanently take over Mac’s bar

She really wanted Obsidian and Transmutate to be in the show.

If Thunderclash was in the show he and Jetfire would HATE each other. Thunderclash would be a rival reality star (maybe) to Media Fire

Fave Episode was “I Am the AllSpark” b/c of that Megatron and Starscream dialogue Also S2 04 Soundwave and Shockwave

Transmutate would be more like the uprising version (?) but modeled more on the BeastWars version

The Starscream & Megatron beatdown was super severe and they were like “holy frick they’re really going for it” when they saw the boards for it

She likes the Windblade / Slipstream ship

Her favorite VA is Jeremy Levy, he’s a really cool guy

She thinks Starscream and Cheetor could become (not necessarily friends, but connected?) because of their connection to the All Spark

Describes Starscream as an “Awful gremlin” several times

They say Megatron didn’t actually kill Starscream, just really beat him down hard

“Don’t take things I say as the end all be all”

She doesn’t think Bee would be a Prime, Windblade and Hot Rod would be a better Prime. He wouldn’t want to be a Prime. He’s the #2 to Primes!

With unlimited budget combiners could’ve been included, but it doesn’t seem like they thought about it

Astrotrain and the Insecticons are from Megatron X’s universe

Megatron’s priorities changed when he saw his doppelganger. Realizing he was a horrible tyrant, that scared him enough to return and not kill Optimus and make peace no matter what.

She thinks Cliffjumper and Bee wouldn’t get along, solely because of the IDW2 comic stuff

Got 26 episodes for season 3 because they got the 4-part movies

Megatron cares about his troops but not in a way that we would notice that care

Wasn’t a HUGE die-hard TF fan when she got into the series but she was a bigger GI Joe fan, she reread a bunch of things and did a lot of research

Cut joke: S2 E5 Megatron and OP finds the All Spark Decepticons and Autobots popping all over the world, Soundwave pops into Brazil where there’s a music festival and he’d crash the concert and hang out. He likes EDM the most?

The Titans want to be cities. They want citizens. They want to be lived in, that brings them joy (ouch)

Q: How did the Decepticons learn to stream? A: Because they’re deceptive! He knew he should dedicate some time to winning the hearts and minds of humans. Starscreams’ funeral was not the first time they streamed Optimus would use the official media channels, not a streaming service. Megatron would try to speak more directly to the people.

From the conception, the show wasn’t going to have humans

She thought people would ship Dead End / Percy but it wasn’t until she saw art that she started shipping them

Q: Is Optimus the type of streamer who would take 10 minutes to figure out how to un-mute his microphone A: Optimus is a dad. He has no idea what’s going on re: streaming. Optimus would say embarrassing news while Bee and Hot Rod are in the middle of streaming

Doesn’t ship Bee with anyone, she sees him as a little brother

Randolph put Rack ‘n Ruin in the show.

AcidStorm is genderfluid

Cold Construction doesn’t exist in this show. Maybe there’s one jet mode all the seekers really like

We have Mae Catt to thank for Whirl

Percy didn’t transform because not a good time to turn into a microscope while you’re trying to save your planet from Quintessons

If she were a transformer she’d want to be a stealth bomber. She’s 5′3 so she says she’d probably actually be a motorcycle like Chromia

They killed Prowl because it was Shadow Striker doing the killing and he’s a self-sacrificing lieutenant.

Enjoyed writing Starscream most, Clobber and Hot Rod became a joy, S2 E4 was her first one, it was fun getting into Hot Rod’s voice. She said it was hard doing Optimus’ voice, she’d always pass it off to someone to look at it.

She loves the idea of Wild Wheel robbing Astrotrain in train-mode, totally wild west-style

One of her proudest things was turning Lugnut into a gal

They wanted to include more female characters

They love Cosmos, she has a little toy of him. R2D2 but a transformer! They loved having her in the show

Blurr really was the fastest

Maccadam looking like a buff Rung was just a strange coincidence

Q: Megop rights? A: “Oh absolutely, duh”

Says we absolutely SHOULD write fanfic. Fanfiction made her into the writer she is today, she says you should write it

There’s a lot between episodes, people living their lives and characters living on the ship that don’t pop up in the show

She wrote non-stop Matrix fanfic from 12-20 years old, she learned a lot thanks to writing fanfic

Uses “They” pronouns for Rack ‘n Ruin but they both use “he”

Sad that Skywarp didn’t get a speaking line

Re: Starscream’s redemption arc: She wanted Starscream to have amnesia if they went the “he comes out of the ruins of the judge totally fine”. “A redemption arc needs to be facilitated by a character acknowledging that what they did was wrong. He would have a laundry list of excuses for everything, even if there was all that evidence to the contrary, but needs to acknowledge that reasons don’t matter because people got hurt. Needs to intend to do better. Let them try and let them fail, they don’t need to 180, it’s hard work to be a better person.”

Shadow Striker is taller than Optimus or is his height. She loves the gender-neutral designs for a lot of characters

She’s not going to say whether Ratchet finished medical school or not Laughed at the "i don't believe that man has ever been to medical school" comment

Q: How would you feel about a female Optimus Prime? A: [GAY LAUGHTER] “So do you turn Optimus Prime into a woman, or do you take characters like Elita One and uplift her? I would want to lean more into giving Elita One more oomph, I do love how Optimus doubts himself and if he’s worthy of being a Prime.”

Says Rack ‘n Ruin are probably the Prime in that one weird universe lmao

Loves the idea that Transformers have siblings / families

She doesn’t think Cybertronians celebrate birthdays. “Why would you celebrate being alive for 4 million years that sounds like a nightmare.” She says that people would be celebrating milestones if nothing else

She’d kill to have Perceptor meet the other stunticons

She says she doesn’t post fanfic as much anymore. Sends them to Natalie as love letters (Ghost Busters fics specifically)

In a world where you had unlimited budget it’d be fun if Cybertronians were constantly shape-shifting and changing their forms, they’d like having Transformers who “grew a beard” and decided to “shave it”

Re: Ratchet and Medical school: she wants a “I choose to believe Ratchet has never been to medical school” shirt

Natalie (her GF) said hi

She says she'd never do that just for the sake of doing it, but it's part of something that they do need to be aware of while working on a show “Starts from a weirdly cold pragmatic place, but we try and put truth in it”

She agreed that the perfect Autobot would be Thunderclash after the chat said that

Optimus depicted as a father figure in S1 because it’s from Bee’s perspective, S2 / S3 they were able to explore more and found the limits and found it was hard to maintain that level of heroic dialogue. Optimus would feel awkward about it too. Randolph did an impression of Optimus’ speech. “He can’t not be in war-mode” :(

Q: Were Optimus and Megatron friends ever, or did they just work together on the speech stuff? A: Oh hell yes, I think [the story] is always enhanced when they’re friends and when Optimus really believes in what Megatron was working on. Optimus’ rejection of Megatron is what pushes him over the edge, his best friend rejecting him pushes him into a place where he becomes a tyrannical person.

Q: Does Maccadam know we love him? A: *puts hand over heart and looks into the distance* Yes

Q: what was most important to you personally to put out in each episode? like humor/characterization/arcs A: Wanted to make sure she didn’t write dialogue that was condescending, wanted to be true about the character. Needs to be true to the characters (and gay)

Transformers probably don’t know what memes are. They know what they ARE, but they don’t get it. They wanted Hot Rod to be super into Earth culture (winning races and driving off before humans could realize no one was in the car), but they never had time to really get into that.

Wound up in the Cyberverse writer’s room thanks to her agents, says she was the only person who gave a crap about GI Joe stuff, the executives were so sweet and let her chat, and they said she wasn’t a good fit for the current live action project so they sent her to the animation side, they sent her to Michael Howzer and they hit it off talking about GI Joe stuff. She was a post PA, someone who helped editors finish things for TV, got a call with an offer.

[SHIFTED] Chapter 01

Levi Ackerman x Reader

Sinopse: Did you ever think about coming home and meeting a person that doesn't meant to exist? No? Well... but it happened.F/N is an Musical Producer who just got fired, and her only comfort are spend the time watching Anime and writting fanfics, until the day that HE appeared on the floor covered in blood and bruises.

What is he doing there? Is she going insane?

I guess not.

Warning: BLOOD.CURSING.

------------------------------------F/N POV:

After getting fired, I started giving up on that silly dream of mine: Becoming a huge music producer. I knew that things were hard on real life but fuck.... being unenployed crashed my energies.

I was going home after shopping some groceries to fill up my sad belly - LOL - and continue to write some fanfics and stuff.

" Where are the keys? " I cursed harshly in my mind while my hand tapped every single place of my bag.

- HERE!

I opened my front door happily and threw my shoes away, today was the day of the new chapter of Shingeki No Kyojin manga and, of course, I would finally think about something more interesting than my life.

Without turning on the lights, I felt some squishness(?) on my foot.

- Did Saphira threw up? Ewwww - I jumped to the light swicht to turn it on and looked at the floor.

And well, it wasn't puke.

- OH MY GOD SOMEONE ENTERED MY HOUSE AND KILLED MY DOG.

I runned into the kitchen and then i saw.

It was a man. A fucking dead man lying on the flor. Saphira was beside him looking confused, I tapped her head and in shock I shooked the corpse.

- Hey.... are you... possibly... alive? - Yeah, of course i asked a bloody body, but, who knows?

- Hnnn - The man arched a little making my heart jump out off my chest.

- Oh god... ok. I will help you. Just try to...AHHHHH!!!!

Letting the body fall again I felt my head spinning. It was not an ordinary man, IT WAS A MAN IDENTICAL TO LEVI.

- I guess i am writing too much fanfiction. Yeah, probably - With my last strenght I carried him to my bed and quick took of his shirt.

There were bruises and blood in all his body, and if he continued like that... he would die. Quickly i grabbed my medical-kit and stucked the bleeding places with towels.

" I must sew this parts as fast as possible. "

As soon as I finished doing the worst, I glanced at his face. It was identical, the black hair, the nose, lips and eyebrows. Almost like a living Fan Art.

- Stop dreaming, f/n. You need to take care of him!

I knew that Levi didn't like to be dirty or covered in blood, so with a sponge I gently tried to clean his face and body. Althought beeing very hurt, his breathing was almost normal.

- How could this possibly happen? Well, I will not complain... it's not like i didn't want to meet you, huh? - I whispered and turned off the lights.

The rest of the afternoon i tried to clean my kitchen, which was red and filthy. Saphira's fur was quite... light pink, so I had to wash her too.

As I was trying to catch the soap, something cold touched my back making me squeek and turn quickly.

- Who are you? - He said with his typical angry face.

- Calm down... I just... saw you there and tried to help. - My fingers tried to put away his knife. But it didn't work.

- And why the hell do you want me to believe that?

- Because... I cleaned you! And did your stitches and all! There is no reason for me to hurt you! Trust me, I just want to help... - I whispered the last part.

- Oi, brat. Why is your dog so fucking big and dirty? - Levi put his knife down and pointed to Saphira who was all excited and happy to see him.

- Ah, when I came here she was by your side... I don't know. Maybe she was trying to keep you alive. - I chuckled and patted her.

- Tch. Whatever. Care to explain where I am and why Zack dissapeared? - He said passing his fingers through the sweat with a disgusted face.

- Uh... Levi. It is quite hard but i will try to explain, okay? Wait a sec. - With a hush i took my notebook and opened on the last chapter of the manga.

It was an explosion which caused all Levi's injuries, but unlike the manga, his fingers were intact and there was no scar on his face.

I showed the images to him, at first his eyes almost popped out, but then a n awkward silence fell down.

- I'm sorry. I didn't want to show you but...

- That's a shit, tch. So I'm not supposed to be real in this world? Or alive? - He asked me without a shot of sadness.

- I want to think that you aren't going to die. Because look, you are... you. You've been through a lot and it won't be an explosion that will kill you. - I stood up trying to cheer him, but his eyes were the same. Cold and numb.

Before anything, Levi passed out making me worry him even more. I tried to lay gently his body on the couch so he could rest.

- Let him be. It must be very confusing for now. - I looked at Saphira and smiled - Let's wash your fur!

{ ... }

Later that night, I heard some noises coming from the living room. I stood up and switch the lights on; Levi wasn't there anymore.

Panick started to fill my body as I ran through the house, when i was about to call the police, I heard the sound of the shower.

"Thank god, i forgot he is such a clean freak"

Suddenly he opened the door. And bloody hell, what a hot body. I felt my face heat with the vision which caught his attention.

- Oi, why are you awake?

- I heard noises so I came to check up on you... and when I saw that you wasn't in the couch I got worried.

- Thank you, brat. But your place smells like fucking blood and thank hell i am tired, because otherwise i would rub this 'till it shines.

- Whatever. I'm gonna sleep. Don't run away because the police is a pain to dodge, okay? Bye.

And then I left him alone in the dark. I was tired, what could I do?

15 LEADING LADIES WORTHY OF PLAYING BATGIRL IN THE UPCOMING WARNER BROS. MOVIE

It’s coming! DC’s Batgirl is at long last suiting up and starring in her very own live-action feature film! Previously played by Alicia Silverstone (Batman & Robin, 1997) and the “pioneer of female superheroes,” Yvonne Craig (1960′s tv series, Batman), the time has finally come for Commissioner James “Jim” Gordon’s niece, Barbara Gordon, to shine a spotlight with her very own Bat-signal.

Warner Bros. Studios is working with director/screenwriter Joss Whedon (The Avengers, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Justice League, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron), who's going to write and direct the exciting new superhero film for the DCU (DC Universe). The plot and the release date, however, are still up in the air, and the quest for the perfect actress is on-going!

With a clear call from audiences for more empowering female leads in major motion pictures, who is the most suitable to suit up as the caped-crusading vixen of Gotham?!

Here are my top 15 kick-ass choices (in no particular order):

1. MADELAINE PETSCH Known for her breakout role as the sharp-tongued Cheryl Blossom on the hit TV show Riverdale, Madelaine Petsch fits Batgirl’s comic description perfectly. The young, sultry, fiery red-head has made her mark in the hallways of Riverdale High; could she leave an even bigger mark on Gotham?

2. BELLA THORNE

With five movies currently in post-production and a young-adult fanbase who will remember her from Family Channel’s Shake It Up and movies like The Duff and Amityville: The Awakening, Bella Thorne is a red-headed “it girl” with a bad-ass demeanour. She would fit into Batgirl’s boots perfectly.

3. YARA SHAHIDI

Recently accepted to Harvard University, this breakout teen actress (ABC’s Black-ish and Grown-ish) has impressed on and off camera since she debuted in HBO’s Entourage in 2007. Should she have the time to kick it in Gotham, Yara Shahidi would sparkle as Barbara Gordan in Batgirl! Smart, beautiful, talented, popular...she’d be doing us the favour!

4. ALICIA VIKANDER

Set to star as Lara Croft in March 2018′s Tomb Raider, it’s safe to say Alicia Vikander has some experience being an action hero. Not to mention, she won an Oscar for her supporting role in 2016′s The Danish Girl. She’d also be the second “Alicia” to play Batgirl since Alicia Silverstone in ‘97. Quick, Batsuit her up!

5. MAISIE WILLIAMS

“A girl is Arya Stark Barbara Gordon of Winterfell Gotham and she’s coming home!” Maise Williams is best known for her gripping role in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and if this young actress brings the same flair and determination she delivers in GOT to Batgirl, we’d have the perfect recipe for a coming-of-age origin story starring an already established action/adventure actress.

6. LIU YIFEI

This experienced actress, model, singer, and martial arts expert has been acting in China since she moved from the United States at the age of ten. Since then, she’s appeared in endless movies including 2008′s The Forbidden Kingdom, where she acted alongside Jet Li and Jackie Chan (the Batman and Robin of martial arts movies). She’s also signed on to play Mulan in the 2019 live-action Disney remake of the same name. Wait, is she already Batgirl?!

7. MAGGIE GEHA

Already a part of the Batman Universe (Poison Ivy in FOX’s Gotham), Maggie Greha and her rouge mane could easily step off the small screen and onto the big screen as Barbara Gordon in Batgirl. With Ivy being a supporting (and dwindling) character in the TV series, DC could propel in-house Maggie to superstardom overnight (and she’ll look amazing doing it).

8. EVAN RACHEL WOOD

A movie and television star with the beauty and talent to take on any role she’s given, Evan Rachel Wood has intrigued fans over the years with her edgy private life (dating Marilyn Manson) and talented on-screen life (starring in critically acclaimed movies like Thirteen, Across the Universe and The Wrestler). Nominated for three Golden Globes and two Emmy’s, Evan is currently starring in the final season of Westworld but has yet to land a role playing a live-action superhero; Batgirl could be the leading role she’s been waiting for.

9. ZOË KRAVITZ

Another Batman Universe alumni (Catwoman in 2017′s The LEGO Batman Movie), Zoë Kravitz is the gorgeous daughter of rock star Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet. and she’s no stranger to action/adventure movies having starred in Mad Max, X-Men: First Class and the Divergent Trilogy. Landing the role of Barabara Gordon in Batgirl would not only garner intrigue, it would further her success in the genre like never before. Maybe shorten her name to Babs Gordan, too. It’s bad-ass like Zoë!

10. JANE LEVY

Rising to fame as Tessa Altman on ABC’s sitcom-style TV series, Suburgatory, Jane Levy has moved onto to star in two back to back horror films with director Fede Álvarez (2013′s Evil Dead remake and 2014′s Don't Breathe). With three films in post-production and a recurring role as Elizabeth on SHOWTIME’s Twin Peaks, Jane has the look, experience, and tenacity to knock this role out of Gotham Park.

11. NATALIA DYER

Landing the coveted role of Nancy Wheeler in the Netflix original series, Stranger Things, Natalia Dyer is riding a tidal wave of popularity. Her show is a global phenomenon and she has two feature films in post-production. If she’s lucky, Nancy Wheeler’s search for Barb in the Upside Down will metaphorically come full circle if she plays Barbara Gordon in Batgirl.

12. HAILEE STEINFELD

Releasing a new album and teasing several new movie projects this year (including Transformers: Bumble Bee), Hailee Steinfeld is at the top of her game. The fresh-faced 2010 Oscar nominee (True Grit) would bring a surge of interest to the Batgirl project and could even spawn sequels based on the success of her previous movies like the Pitch Perfect Trilogy. If director Joss Whedon is planning a teenaged coming-of-age story à la Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Hailee is a perfect choice.

13. WILLOW SMITH

Singer Willow Smith is another beautiful celebrity child. Her parents, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, have both played villains in the Batman Universe (her father played Deadshot in Suicide Squad and the upcoming Suicide Squad 2, and her mother played Fish Mooney in FOX’s Gotham). Willow has been a successful recording artist from a very young age - ”I whip my hair back and forth” - but if she ever wants to branch out into acting, she has the lineage, wits, style and beauty to play a fierce Batgirl. Bonus Bat-points if her dad makes a cameo as Deadshot!

14. SAOIRSE RONAN

Nominated for three Best Actress Oscars from 2008-2018 (Atonement, Brooklyn, and Ladybird) this young but layered actress would bring a much deeper level of emotion to Barbara Gordon’s character. A Saoirse Ronan Batgirl script would have to delve into the dark side of the heroes and villains of Gotham, like the Christopher Nolan trilogy. Maybe she’ll even get a fourth Oscar nod!

15. LINDSAY LOHAN

Lindsay, Lindsay, Lindsay... Last but not least, what can anyone say about Lindsay Lohan that hasn’t already been said? The infamous actress recently took to Twitter posting a picture of herself next to a comic of Batgirl, then asked fans to Retweet it and/or reach out to director Joss Whedon and help get her the gig. The hustle is real! Lindsay is spicy and controversial, and although she hasn’t worked in years, she’s apparently ready to dive back into the world of acting in a very big way - the role of Barbara Gordon in Batgirl! She does have the look down!

That ranges from flashy pieces such as Louis Vuitton’s pin closures and chainlinks and 1017 ALYX 9SM’s signature buckle, to the small, nearly imperceptible branding details; take a close look at the cordends on an Off-White™ hoodie and you’ll see they read “METAL TIP” in tiny lettering on the bottom.

“With menswear, they experiment more. This is where the streetwear contamination is coming aboard,” says Nantas Montonati, Group Sales & Marketing Director for Swiss manufacturer Riri, which creates everything from zippers and snap buttons to cordstoppers and eyelets at its production sites in Italy and Switzerland. Some of the company’s signature creations include the universal zipper slider and the zero snap button. “What we try to do with our zippers and our snaps, and everything is to have it look beautiful and be, really, a design element, as part of it rather than just a functioning piece,” says Ben Howell, CEO of Riri USA Inc. “Riri is the brand for the brands,” as Montonati puts it.

The company is tight-lipped about the brands it works with, but savvy shoppers can spot its products on garments from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Public School and Dries Van Noten. And streetwear brands in particular are helping Riri, which was founded in 1936, to push forward new ideas. “These guys coming from streetwear, they like us very much, but they have very uncommon ideas,” Montonati tells HYPEBEAST. “They force us to think, to be better, to do something new, something different. So I really appreciate them.”

In the streetwear sphere, few have made hardware as crucial to their branding as Matthew Williams, whose 1017 ALYX 9SM label has made technical gear-influenced details into a luxury good. His rollercoaster buckle has become the brand’s signature piece, appearing on everything from belts and bags to jewelry — even a poncho. Though inspired by equipment at a Six Flags theme park, the buckle makes reference to rock climbing gear, with a kiloNewton rating written on the exterior (its classic belt boasts a 24kN and 12kN rating, while the aforementioned poncho includes a 10kN and 5kN rating). Whether or not the €300 EUR belts are actually suitable for rappelling up a mountain is unclear.

Brands like Prada and Heliot Emil have followed Williams’ lead in that regard. But for his first Dior men’s show, Kim Jones went a step further and commissioned Williams to translate his signature rollercoaster buckle for the French fashion label. The new version loses the kiloNewton rating for all manner of Dior branding — not only in the form of the house’s logo, but with the CD initials transformed into the buckle’s shape. And like Williams, Jones has not shied away from adding the buckle to every accessory he can. Along with the new bee motif created by KAWS and the modernization of the house’s Oblique logo, it has become a staple of Jones’ rebranding of Dior for men.

Hardware as a form of branding isn’t attractive for all streetwear designers, however. “There’s a lot more hardware in general recently,” ACRONYM designer Errolson Hugh tells HYPEBEAST. “But this is more about a look than anything else; it’s hardware as an ornament or as an aesthetic for the most part, so it’s not really interesting for us.”

Innovative uses of hardware certainly isn’t new for ACRONYM, which Hugh founded with Michaela Sachenbacher in 1994. However the small brand’s profile has risen considerablysince Hugh was tapped to revive Nike’s ACG line, moving techwear as a whole from an underground subculture to a popular, Instagrammable style.

Hugh nonetheless remains focused on function over style, sourcing from whatever supplier can provide the quality and consistency he needs. “Material determines possibility. For example, the snap we use on our Gravity Pockets was originally engineered to last for ‘three generations.’ With this type of fatigue curve we felt confident that it could perform the way we need it to,” he says. Watching the label’s pieces in action, it’s easy to see why a high-functioning zipper or snap is so essential to making them work.

“We’re much more about the tested and true, even if we use them in unorthodox ways.”

It’s for that reason that Hugh in fact doesn’t commission any custom closures. “We’re not really fans of super brand new things in general, actually,” he explains. “We’re much more about the tested and true, even if we use them in unorthodox ways.” That attention to small details delights the brand’s devoted followers, such as the discovery that the ACRONYM x Nike Air Presto Mid includes a locking zipper. “I don’t know if they’re secrets, but there have always been non-obvious uses and functions built into ACRONYM garments,” Hugh says.

To stay ahead of the curve however, the zipper industry needs to not merely keep up with established houses, but establish close relationships with designers at the beginning of their careers. “We decided to place the showroom in London because there are three major fashion schools based in London: Central Saint Martins, London College of Fashion and Royal College of Art,” YKK PR executive Anna Stefaniak tells HYPEBEAST.

YKK’s products are found on everything from Levi’s to Yohji Yamamoto (though it too is quiet about officially confirming its client list), but its status as the number one zipper producer in the world means it is more associated with the mass market rather than bespoke production. However, in December 2015 the Japanese company opened its first ever showroom in London’s Shoreditch district, which Stefaniak says was a “revolution” for the company in allowing individual designers to interact with YKK.

“Before you had to be a big brand to place an order with us,” she says. Now freelance designers or fashion students can make an appointment and purchase small orders of YKK products. And considering it is facing increasing competition from Chinese producer SBS for the mass-market consumer, YKK is smart to showcase its more design-minded capabilities with the showroom. “It’s kind of like our dream to have this kind of showroom in every city,” Stefaniak says.

Developing relationships with designers early on is key for Riri as well. Though its products are likely out of most fashion students’ budgets (if you have to ask how much their zippers cost, you’re in the wrong place), the company forges connections by visiting schools like FIT to give students sample products. “We sponsor a lot of people,” Howell explains. “We need to help the industry and we need to help the young people starting out. It’s in their interest in and also in our best interest.” After all, the race for new styles never ends.

Currently, the manufacturer sees lacquered plastic as one of the trends in hardware that still poses the biggest technical challenges. As Montonati explains, lacquering plastic components in different colors can not only create a bottleneck in production, but the final product is also far more prone to chipping than the galvanic metal finishes more traditionally used in luxury products. “Durability of the lacquering, this is something we are working on a lot because it’s definitely a trend, and we have to make it much, much better,” he says. As menswear designers continue to send eye-popping colors and monochromatic looks down the runway, Riri is looking to car manufacturers to learn how to make more durable colored finishes.

Sustainability is also changing the industry; with more luxury brands going green, their partners and manufacturers need to as well. “They need to know what our carbon footprint is so they can put it into their calculations because they’re buying things from us,” Howell explains, and adds that Riri has appointed a sustainability manager to look at everything from air filters in their offices to dyeing processes in their factories. There’s also a trickle-down effect with designers using more sustainable products as a whole; according to Montonati, “green” leather can have extreme effects like oxidation on metal hardware, which means more research, more testing and more development to make products to fit with the new materials.

But durability — a zipper or button that will still work after thousands of uses — remains perhaps the most crucial factor in creating sustainable hardware. “The quality of product is our first step in sustainability,” Stefaniak says of YKK’s efforts in the arena, which she says have been part of its ethos since its founding in 1994. The Japanese company is also looking to accessibility as a new frontier for closures, with zippers that can be opened with one or no hands in production.

many of these details remain imperceptible for anyone but the wearer, the countless social media accounts dedicated to documenting fashion means young consumers are more discerning than ever before. “Millennials are going to Instagram. They see everything. There are some sites that, let’s say, make it evident, the difference. That’s good for us,” says Montonati.

That can influence as well how some designers choose to brand their hardware. “We have a lot of customers that rather than put their name on it would like to have the Riri name,” Howell says. For those in the know after all, the name means as much as the Louis Vuitton stamp.
