hello! i've been so busy for so long.. what shall we do today?
i propose some brainrotting, so will you spare the time to listen to my musings? i promise it would be worthwhile, that is if you are not easy to rile.
i think love with xiao is as beautiful as it is haunting. love with xiao is akin to loving endlessly, loving with every single thing you have, and yet loving without any strings attached. infatuation is not what your love is; rather, it is comfort. it is the kind of love you find in settled, married lovers, it is relishing most in the moments that are quiet, where the butterflies that annoyingly swarm your insides begin to calm instead of twisting and turning. it's the kind of adoration you find at 3 in the morning, soothing empty words meant to love and love while you bandage the wounds inflicted on his body.
you are in love with a man — a person, perhaps, so otherworldly you'd have to find room to adjust. and you do. it would be unfair to demand him to change for you, when he'd accepted you despite the obvious barrier of mortality.
to him, you are mortal, and you are fragile. he does not think of you as weak; you amaze him with other things, if not physical combat. you are one that brings peace to the worst storms, and you are the person that grounds him when his world starts to crumble and break.
xiao loves you, as hard as you love him. he adores you, you'd find that soft look on his face when he gently allows himself to hold you close. hands made to kill suddenly became hands you so adored, and he can't find it in him to complain when you pull him closer. touch was never a thing necessary for adepti, or that's what he convinced himself for the past eons, until he finds himself wishing he could link your hands (or your pinkies) together at his lower points in life.
xiao's love is silent, yet the results are loud and they echo. for you, he'd clear the road of demonic matters, and for you, every beckoning of his name, he appears. if it's you, he'd stomach any food he can take (he thinks it's sweet you avoid food with much flavour), and should it be you who asked, he'd take as many rest as he so graciously needs (and that, he does. you find him deep in slumber one time; and you think you've never seen anything as mystical as a resting adeptus boy, not when he insistently claims that he didn't require sleep. you suppose even adepti would require mortal needs, as much as he wants to argue).
your love is just as beautiful as it is free. you don't have problems not seeing him for days, so understanding of the contract he follows (despite much protest in the past). you are well aware you're not fully capable of stopping what he wants to do, and you let him. it would be unwise to keep a feral animal in a home, trapped when they're used to the wilderness outside. the similar situation goes for him -- although, he'd berate you if you ever compare him to a meek creature.
there are times when things take a turn for the worse, like this one time where your stomach dropped upon the news the traveler had brought. they told you of his almost-to-be self-sacrifice, retold the story of what goes down in the chasm, and as much as you had faith in xiao, you think you've never felt this much anguish at how easy it was for him to consider death. the traveler says that xiao had taken a turn for the better, after receiving immediate help from this anonymous source, but you could not ignore the pit in your stomach.
xiao so easily decided then and there that his fate should come to an end, and hadn't even said his farewells.
you don't think it's right that you felt some kind of anger or anguish for his behaviour, but you were, and worried sick the whole day.
in the end, you weren't even mad. a plate of almond tofu, his hand linked with yours and a night to silently appreciate the fact that he hadn't left. a quiet understanding, bitter as it may be, that both your love were without any strings attached.
endlessly, without reason, you will love him as much as he, you.

In the bedroom || Part Two || Headcannons
Hello again~ Time for more degeneracy!! Next post will add some more characters to the fray muehheheheheh- Mod Kaeya
✧*
Part One Is Here: Diluc, Childe, Zhongli, Xiao
Tumblr media
Albedo
- He’s not really privy to the matters of the heart so at first he approaches this with a very scientific outlook ngl
- Like don’t get me wrong he loves sex it’s just he doesn’t get the urge? It’s less “ah that person’s hot time to go wack off” for him and more “wow they’re good looking” and then he moves on and only really registers a couple days later when he’s wacking off for a completely different reason that he’d fuck them if he could
- So when the both of you get jiggy with it the first time he’s studying you, trying to see how you tick and picking you apart with that beautiful mind of his to wreck you with the information
- It’ll take a couple of times but you can get him out of his head by whispering sweet nothings into his ear, he’s really not used to people touching them or being close so if you end up biting it he will quite literally jump
- He’s really one more for foreplay than the main event though, he just likes the quietness of it. Like a calm before the storm, the hypothesis before the experiment as it were
- As such he’s really good at it
- Annoyingly good at it
- The fucker can now just stand behind you during the average day, work under your pants and make your knees weak with one hand while handling an experiment in the other and nonchalantly talking to sucrose across the room as if his fingers aren’t lightly tracing JUST to the left of the right spot
- He doesn’t really have a voyeur kink, he just really likes making you squirm but the idea of getting caught by someone has crossed his mind before and I’ve gotta say it’s only made him hornier at the though
- Like what are they gonna do? Hm? He’s just enjoying time with you, at least now they can see what the both of you are together
Tumblr media
Kaeya
- Mmmmmm I hope you yourself are dirty minded because otherwise you’re not particularly gonna have fun with him
- Since he’s always thinking about sex
- Always
- And if it’s not sex it’s because he’s working in which yeah he’s relatively focusing on the task at hand but he’s mostly fixated on the fact his boob window isn’t low enough
- Have I called him a man whore on here yet? Anyway
- You’re going to have sex on every available surface in your house including straight up pressed against the window late at night with the lights on where everyone can see you
- He’ll close the curtains if you want but it won’t mean much once his tongue curls juuuuust so in between your legs
- He’s a menace
- Walk past you during the day, give your ass a light pat and barely even half an hour later you’re bent over his desk at favonious HQ
- One of his favorite things is just the idea of you absolutely wrecked for him in public like, the idea of you flustered, completely disheveled and dazed and goo goo eyed with it obvious to any passer by that he did that to you
- He might just get hard again
- You have to moan for this pretty boy, either way he’s gonna make you sing y’all it’s just better you do it from the get go if you’re loud in bed
- If you’re quiet, the of times you do make little noises he’s gonna blush really hard because he thinks it’s cute
- Then he’s gonna be embarrassed he thought it was cute when he’s got both your legs over his shoulders
- Oh no someone help him
- One thing he’s not used to, and so REALLY receptive to, is a lot of affection after the deed
- Like bang him till the bed breaks yeah but if you cuddle him and give him sweet kisses and hold him? He’s yours now y’all I’m sorry
- He’ll follow you like a love sick puppy for
Tumblr media
Kazuha
- Very much a sweet heart but don’t expect him to be the blushing, nervous virgin in any regard
- He’s a wandering samurai not an anime protagonist the guy’s had his fair share of whirlwind romance during his time traveling across teyvat
- So while unfortunately it means you can’t really share each other’s virginity, if you are a virgin he’s going to give you the ultimate first time
- Full on treating you to a whole 5 star buffet (does food even have a ranking system? Eh)
- He’s going to give you his all and let me tell you that is a LOT
- Probably the most skilled at dirty talk
- He’s gonna be really spontaneous about it all too, usually anyway since being a wanderer traveling across Teyvat means typically you’re not in any one place for too long
- So if you’re not into doing it outside in nature and risking that small chance someone might be able to hear you on the next trail over you may have to wait awhile to do anything with him
- He doesn’t really have an extremely high libido but what he doesn’t have in frequency he more than makes up for with stamina
- Like if you’re feelin it but he’s not particularly bothered he’ll just lend you his fingers and tongue and tease you about how needy you are good naturally but if he’s in the mood and you’re raring to go as well?
- Oh honey
- I hope you have some sort of way to help with sore muscles
Tumblr media
Scaramouche
- Probably the one you want if you’re into a looooot of the more kinky stuff I’m not going to lie
- You’re going to relinquish all control to him. That’s it. End of.
- It’s not in the bedroom either, it’s wherever he wants whenever he wants it and that means on the wall, the floor, his office desk or even in the fucking pool
- He gets off on your pretty little expression when he’s shoving you onto the couch in the Northland bank so that he can get his fill
- “But someone might see us??” You say, “then let them see how good of a lay I am then?? Hm?”
- If you want any chance of being on top whilst getting down with him you need a weapon- and I’m not saying beat the shit out of him because that’s just fucked up. But he takes Childe’s little lust for destruction to a whole new level.
- He won’t admit it bit one of the hottest things he’s ever seen you do is be dressed in barely anything with a gun pointed at his chest
- He felt like a horny teenager for once rather than a domineering pretty boy
- …might have to buy you a couple more things to complete the little roleplay scenario he’s been replaying in his head ever since then…
- But if he’s so rough, even when he’s the bottom, my dearest mod kaeya would he ever be sweet to us?
- Well I’m glad you asked
- No. Not while you’re awake.
- Chances are after you guys fuck each other out you’re going to fall asleep in the mess that is your bedroom, and this part will only happen in the bedroom, he’s going to peel you off of him
- And then he’s going to check if you’re still awake (and you better not be), then he’s going to bring a washcloth and start giving you a little bit of aftercare. He’ll massage your bruises or where he strained you and then snuggle down next to you and mutter praises to your unconscious self for putting up with the mess that is his whole ass screwy state of mind
- He doesn’t do this while you’re awake because he doesn’t want to be weak even if no one is around, no matter how much he loves and lusts for you there’s always that underlying voice telling him if he’s soft to you it’s over for him
- But if you ever bring this up to him it won’t end all prettily, so if you expect that then I’m sorry but it’s going to go more like him ignoring you for weeks straight after in sheer humiliation and anger towards you and himself
- He’s not a charity case, he’s a fucking harbringer and he expects to be treated as much

the taste of iron is bittersweet
-xiao x gn!reader
-warnings!; slight blood,wounds,angsty-fluff
note-not much i just wanted xiao to be cared for lol
“Xiao! Oh archons above you have a cut in your lip.” You state, exasperated. Batting at the slight wound in his lip gently. The yaksha let a sharp breath out of his nose, a clear sign of his annoyance before pushing your hand away.
“I have slaughtered countless souls, ones of mortality and immortality. Gathered myself countless wounds to which I bleed out of day and night. A cut on my lip is nothing.” He muttered through gritted teeth, lips becoming firmly pulled together as you cocked a brow at him.
“Sure but, a wounds a wound. Remember last time you let something something as small as this fly by?” You questioned him, as he shuddered at the thought.
A rock has been pelted at him in the midst of battle, scraping him. Leaving it be was a foolish mistake for the infection that followed was horrendous. He was bed ridden for weeks because of you. The rage he kept caged in that time was immeasurable, but your gentle hands caressing his face as you placed downy kisses upon his cheeks was something he found himself lulling to sleep to.
“…yes.” He answered after a moment, curling his lips in disgust at your coy expression.
“And besides, isn’t the taste of blood bitter? Because if all the iron.” You questioned him once more, going back to patching the small cut.
“Hmm, indeed. But in some sick way, it’s a flavor I’ve grown fond of.” He muttered. “It’s sweet, in a way.”
Pulling your hands away, a solemn expression on your face. “What. Why the long face y/n.” Xiao irked, the sudden heavy tension in the air making him feel hot in his own skin.
“I just, i don’t know, wish you didn’t have to live like that. Think that.” Your words appeared to be chosen carefully. Even then there was a hesitance to them.
“You have a beautiful soul Xiao, it’s unfair.”
His amber eyes widen like an animal caught in lights, before knitting his brows together, catching himself.
Sure you had spoken to him tenderly in the past, but never with this amount of affection. It made a gushy feeling poor in his stomach.
“The sentiment is accepted, y/n. But not needed. This burden, and job I carry, is my birth right. It’s what fate assigned me.” He answered at last.
Biting your lip, you casted your eyes downward.
“So cruel.” You whispered. “And unfair.”
Xiao rolled his eyes at you, which earned a slight tug at the corner of his lips.
“Quit it, you’re acting like a child.” He teased gently. But the way he carried his words made it seem as if he was genuinely insulting you.
Opening your mouth only to close it again, you pondered. “I mean, I guess the taste of blood is bittersweet.”
Xiao laughed at this, a loud bark that shook his ribs. As soon as the outburst came it was gone. Drawing out a long sigh he looked at you. Seeing how confused you were.
“Ah, oh. You were being truthful in your statement?” He said lowly, warning a nod from you.
“Bittersweet, as you put it, describes a moment in time. Something that happens. Not an object.” He hissed.
You shrugged. “Is the period in which you are tasting the blood not a moment in time?” You shot back, words laced with mock dignity. Almost as if your were poking fun at the way he spoke.
Damn.

Yaksha’s Destiny || Xiao
DARKNESS was the biggest fear held by fellow Yakshas. This power bestowed upon you and many alike gave an opening to the pitting shadows that raged within your chambers. Some days, it wasn't as bad -- other days... it felt like you were getting ripped apart into shreds, taking in all your willpower to battle against it. It was tempting, to give in and call it quits. Life for a Yaksha wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. There were always too many demons and not enough heroes. Especially for a weaker one like you, anger and frustration would stem from these battles, only to eat at you later on.
Today was one of those days. The sky was a stormy sea of clouds, with the Gods crying from the heaven above. Droplets prickled down your bare skin, cold to the touch. While in the mountainside, you had stumbled upon demonic energy, so there was no choice but to finish them off.
Dodging the monster that lunged at you, you took out your polearm. The hydro vision on your hip gleamed brightly in the setting. Taking a turn, you could feel power surge to your arms. As you were about to jab your weapon into the demon's abdomen, they had ducked in time. Shit. You had underestimated this one.
Its body rammed into you, knocking you off your feet. Air left your system, causing you to groan in pain. Just as it was about to sink its teeth into your arm, you rolled over on one side and jumped back to your feet. Fingers clenching tightly around the metal stick, you pushed your hind legs and tried to stab at it another time. Your speed and reaction time was too slow. Too damn slow. Too damn weak. Gritting your teeth, you began to use up more of Yaksha's power, drinking the exhilarating taste of freedom. It was so addicting... often times, you'd wished it'd never stop.
A burst of water shrouded from the weapon, circling the demon until it was surrounded. With one, clean fell swoop, you sliced the demon and the energy faded away. The deed was done.
Falling to your knees, your entire body was shaking. Face contorted and in pain, nails dug into the earth to feel wet mud. Your body would not move -- it could not. Stilling there as if you had just been paralyzed, hungering thoughts plagued your mind... Thoughts you wished weren't yours. Letting out a disgusting whimper, similar to that of a wounded animal, you bit down on your lip, hard. Blood dribbled down your chin, painting the grass in crimson. Tugging at your mask, you stared at it for a moment. A sigh let out.
That was a close one. Crashing to the ground, your chest heaved up and down in exhaustion.
A figure suddenly entered your peripheral vision. Climbing up to the ridge of the mountain was Xiao, his dark teal locks blowing along with the harsh winds. Donned in his usual robes, he was as attractive as ever. The first time you stumbled upon him -- one of the famous five -- you nearly forgot to breathe. You had referred to him as Alatus then, starstrucked by such a powerful being.
You would never not awed by him. The way he held himself would always come to remind you of the big gap in strength between the two of you. Maybe you did establish a relationship with this all-mighty Yaksha, but this inferiority complex was tugging your strings more than you'd like to admit.
At the same time, he provided you the distraction needed. He kept you grounded, which prevented you from going mad. He was the only one who made you feel human, if that was even possible.
Golden amber hues landed on you, withholding an unreadable expression. He walked up to your beaten up form and sat down, unbothered by the rain. Struggling to get yourself into a sitting position, you looked out at the view in front.
"You used up too much of your power again," he murmured.
"Do you think I don't know that? I had no choice," you sighed.
His sharp eyes narrowed further. "You were being careless."
"It happened. There's nothing I can do to change it." His anger barely dwindled and the scowl only deepened. "Come on, Xiao. I don't want to talk about my mistakes when I'm with you. Busy as we are, I barely get to see you as of late. Can't we just enjoy our brief time together?"
That got him. His eyes softened at your words and he reluctantly nodded in agreement. Seizing the victory, you laid your head on his shoulder, feeling warmth even upon this cold weather. The rain was starting to let down too -- perhaps Xiao was the lucky charm.
"What have you been up to?" you inquired.
"Demons. Monsters. The usual," he responded. His cheeks tinged with a soft pink all of a sudden. "I... I also got you something."
Your ears perked up at the sound of this. Lifting your head, you watched him in curiosity. He took something out from his robe pockets and slowly opened his palm. Laying there was a blue, glowing object. Shaped as a butterfly, it was gorgeous. You had never seen this kind of butterfly around these parts. He must have traveled far to have found it.
"It's a crystalfly," he mumbled, averting his eyes in embarrassment. Your heart raced at his actions. He was too cute. Before meeting him, you could have never imagined the Vigilant Yaksha to possess such qualities. "I saw it and... thought it would look good in your hair."
"Oh, I love it. Thank you," you whispered breathlessly, touched beyond words. This was exactly what you meant with how Xiao could easily brush your problems away with a smile.
Before you could stop yourself, you leaned in and kissed his lips. They were soft as petal leaves. He returned the gesture immediately, arms wrapped around you in a warm embrace. Digging your fingers into his hair, you kissed with a ferocity that was never present in your fights. This was to release the pain you dealt with today. As long Xiao was here, you were going to be okay. As long as he was by your side, you were going to be okay. This era of demons and gods will end someday, leaving you a happy future with him.
You tasted him. His lips. His mouth. His entire self. He tasted of mint. He tasted of life. He tasted of iron. The kind of metal tang found in blood. Sighs were exchanged upon each kiss, breathless but the two of you would not let the other go. Your lips trailed down to his jaw, peppering his baby-soft skin with a few nibbles here and there. He let out a gasp.
Finally you pulled away, giggling at his flustered state for your bold moves.
The end was nearing. He picked up the crystal fly and reached up to your [h/c] hair. While he gently pinned it down, you could only focus on his swollen lips. He was beautiful... and you loved him so.
"[Y/N]," he said, interrupting the honey silence of the mountains. "If you are ever in trouble, just call my name and I will come to you. In any circumstance, avoid overusing your power."
This bliss that left you giddy disappeared as quick as it came. All that remained was the harsh, cruel reality. Brows knitted together in offense and you quickly shook your head. "Why would I do that? I'm a Yaksha. What kind of Yaksha seeks help from another? This wounds my pride, Xiao. Is your faith in my skill and strength that low?"
"No. That's not it," he argued, features twisted in desperation. "Why won't you let me protect you?"
"Unbelievable," you merely scoffed, staggering up to stand. "I have to go. I'm sure you do too."
Ignoring his blubbering protests, you jumped down upon ledges until you reached ground level safely. He didn't understand what you had to go through. He never had to face judgement from those who didn't believe in you. Strong enough to battle the demons both externally and internally, Xiao was different from you. But even so... even if his words meant that he only cared for you, it hurt like you had been just stabbed.
You were willing to prove to him that you could stand on your own feet. He was going to eat his own words. So would the other Yakshas who looked down on you your entire life. If you trained hard enough, surely improvement could be gained. Right? It wasn't as if destiny could determine what you could accomplish already.
Approaching the forest that was said to contain many strong demons and monsters, you surged ahead, with eyes filled of challenge.
There, sitting in a nook was a cave, Sensing a suffocating presence, you knew you had hit a jackpot. Sneaking across the grassy lands, you stayed silent. The tall, towering trees were beginning to look a lot more ominous. Tiptoeing to the edge of the cave, you peered in to find the energy unbearably strong. One staggering breath later and you went forward. A roar let out, signaling that it knew of its intruder. Shoulders tensed up and sweat beaded your forehead, but you couldn't stop now. No matter what, you were going to go through with it.
It was a beast. Fangs gleamed in the darkness, nearly the size of your weapon. Having woken from its slumber, its terrifying eyes landed on you. Claws swiped the air, which you barely avoided in time. Fear had seized you with a hand, choking you until you could barely move. This was a terrible, foolish move. There was no way you could beat such a demon.
Calling in more power, it filled you up at the core. To waste no time, you delved right into battle, slashing at the monster. It had little to none effect on it. With a lazy swipe of its arm, it slammed you right into the cave's walls, causing you to spit out blood. Pushing yourself up, you tried again, putting in more power to your weapon. Adding hydro to the mix, the weapon hit its arms. It caused the monster to roar in pain, but that only made it more angry. Barreling straight to you, similar but much more frightening than the last demon, it pounced on you, pinning you down to the ground.
Drool left its mouth, splattering all over on your face. Its claws dug into your side and you let out a piercing scream. You were so fucking sick of this shit. Why was it destined that you had to stay weak? It was so unfair you wished to cry your heart out.
The last of the powers was used. Pushing the demon's hold on you, you stumbled up and felt thrill run through. It was delicious, but your mind was also beginning to grow hazy. "X-Xiao..." you uttered out.
The Conqueror of Demons arrived as soon as you called, anxious to apologize for his insensitivity. What he didn't expect to see was a battlefield. A large and strong demon was torn apart to pieces, the iron smell of it so strong, it was gagworthy. Sitting on the pile of bones was you, dark, gruesome scratches decorating your arms and legs. A deep gash was bleeding from your torso and your [e/c] eyes were dimmed; at the same time, they held a crazed look in them.
His face paled and his body grew cold at the sight. You did the thing he last wanted to happen. Already too far in and consumed by the darkness surrounding your whole life, you were looking at him not with love, but with bloodlust. "I'll kill you, Xiao!" you screamed at the top of your lungs.
Climbing down, you tried to run to him. But your footsteps halted and you crashed to the ground. Spazzing out as if you had just been electrocuted by lightning, the Vigilant Yaksha slowly approached you, tears streaming down the side of his face. He kneeled down, cradling your head in his lap. "Don't leave me..." He hit the ground in fury. "Dammit! Why didn't you listen to me!?"
Consciousness returned but you were on the brink of death. The wound was deep, but so were the demons. It was raining again, so you forced a small smile out. "I'm weak. It's my fate," you whispered. "At least I won't have to suffer through this darkness any longer. It's over. I quit. You won, my demons. I am yours to keep."
"Shut your mouth," he snarled. The rain had turned into a storm, adding fury into the mix. "Please. You can make it through this. Don't leave me yet. It was going to get better. An era with no more demons to haunt us. You said so yourself."
"That was just a stupid dream."
"Don't fucking say that," he growled, flinching as if he'd just been slapped. You were supposed to be the optimist here. It meant that this death was real... and that you would accept it with open arms. "It's going to happen. So hold on. Let me find someone to save you."
Your head shook and you winced. "We all learned this since young. We'll die if we let our power consume us. It's impossible and you know it."
"Stop," he choked out, lowering his head until his hair covered his broken expression. "Then don't talk. Save your breath."
You ignored his words. "Thank you... for the crystalfly. Does it look pretty on me?" you murmured.
He heaved out a sob and slowly nodded. "I've never seen anyone more beautiful."
"I love you."
"I love you too."
"And I'm sorry."
"I am too."
"Protect... the people... like you always do, my sweet, Vigilant Yaksha." Your voice grew more raspy by the second, for the pain was getting unbearable.
You fluttered your eyes shut and the pain faded. On the other hand, Xiao's pain grew, the scars and trauma there to haunt him, for a life and infinity.

The gentle chirps of birds graced Xiao’s ears. He recognized this as a melody of nature, the sunlight cascading a loving warmth onto his pale skin. Lush and rich grass blew in the breeze, one of the few somethings that Xiao actually appreciated from the Wind Archon. He chuckled breathlessly, a feeling of lighthearted mischief settling upon him. Xiao imagined how Venti would pout and scold him for his unbearably disrespect remarks, as he liked to call them. The grass entwined itself into his gloved hand like a silky ribbon. The light, fluffy clouds passed by, drifting away like dandelion seeds floating in the winds.
Xiao’s legs began to ache— the reason unknown —so he’d sat himself down, assuming he’d been basking in the beauty of the flower field for much too long. Ah, flowers. He’d almost forgotten just how intricately designed they were. Well, as a Guardian Yaksha, there’s only so much you can stop and admire. What were the names of these? The petals were pale blue from the bottom fading into a remarkable teal color, four pastel purple strands sprawling out from the top.
Glaze lilies, he recalled. These flowers only bloom once sung to, yes? He remembers this from a certain... human. He smiles fondly at the thought of them. “Xiao, Xiao!” A familiar and soft voice called. Speak of the devil.
Xiao turned to them, and his breath was caught in his throat. It’s like time slowed down, just for them. Just for him. He took a deep breath, his eyes softening, showing vulnerability he’d been hiding for a millennia. Your shining, soft locks framed your face, [c] eyes shining with love and purity. Xiao had seen skies like an ethereal dream, twinkling like sparklers trapped in the deep cerulean sky... But none of those galaxies and any to come would even compare to your radiant image. You were an angel sent from heaven, one to remind him what life can truly bring upon humanity; people like you.
You were like his little secret of sorts. Not a secret of the world. Anyone could meet or find [Name]. He knew anyone could come and sweep you away from him— though he doesn’t enjoy thinking of such ideas —he knew. It could happen. But, he also knew, and he trusted that you wouldn’t truly leave him, after all they’ve been through. He knew that you confined in him just as he did you, he felt like he was finally certain in his eternity of suffering and emptiness. Days that went by where he felt as if he were just existing. He was not living, he never was. Xiao was simply a guardian, assigned to protect Liyue until he drops dead from exhaustion. He was existing as The Guardian Yaksha, Conquerer of Demons.
But with you, he was not any of those. He was not just existing, watching over a nation til his last breath. Your presence alone made him feel warm. Him feeling was already an achievement in itself, after all these years as standing on the sidelines, secluded; no matter how close to Liyue he physically was, he felt so different and disconnected from his people. He’d only be remembered as tale to be told. The way that you made him feel. Not only have you made him feel, you’ve made him feel warm. A ‘warmth’ that he wishes to bask in for the rest of his existence. Warmth. Xiao knew this wasn’t the word to describe how he truly felt. By definition, yes, Xiao admits, albeit hesitantly. But he couldn’t help but feel it was so much deeper than that. You made him feel a warmth that burned his insides. The feeling had words caught in his throat, he often struggled to form a single coherent sentence when you eyes twinkled with a joy he can’t quite grasp. It made him stutter, the way you looked so blissed and euphoric in his company. He loved it. He loved how the butterflies in his stomach never seized, fluttering and flying with each second. His heart raced like a tiger running after its prey, running at miles per minute. He felt so human. So alive. So loved, and he’s finally experienced what it’s like to love. He never wanted it to end.
You laid yourself onto the luxuriant meadow of nature, the blades of green tickling at your cheek. The sun caressed your skin like a mother would her child, giving you an angelic-like glow. Your eyes had drew closed as you listened to what was around you. Distant animals chirping and buzzing filled your ears along with the synchronized breathing of you and the boy next to you. You smiled, your heart thumping against your chest as savored the peace of this moment.
Xiao turned his head to admire the gift the Archons had given him. He saw how amicable this whole ordeal was and how much you were enjoying it. It wasn’t everyday the two of you had the time to lay down and appreciate each other and what the Earth truly had to offer, though I’m sure that’s been made clear. The soft whisper of his name felt like a melody being sang to him, and he couldn’t help but smile.
Another sweet murmur of his name was called. And another. And another. Xiao grew worried. With every purr of his name, he could hear desperation and panic in your tone. That alone had him sick to his stomach. He sat up, his eyes now greeted with an all-too-familiar setting.
The sky was dark with stormy clouds, rain thundering heavily onto the bloodstained ground. The air was no longer crisp and clean but instead reeked of the metallic scent of blood and sweat. He could almost taste the blood on his lips. Xiao looked at his hands, dirtied and course with dried ichor. What was once his peaceful escape of serendipity was now a horrid sight of what he used to be. The murderous machine of what he promised himself to cast away since The Archon War. Screams of retreat, pain, defeat and victory mixed in his head, which was now throbbing from the sudden change in scenery. Why was he here?
More importantly, where were you?
“Xiao... Thank god you’re alive.” Your broken voice chuckled, growing dryer in the passing seconds. His head snapped to you, who was laying on the floor, absolutely beaten up. His heart ached at the sight, and he reached to gently cup your face, as if one wrong move could completely shatter you. You gasped for air before continuing, “I knew you would survive. There’s,” You paused to cough harshly, your body crumbling as the cough was let out, “no way the Xiao I know would loose to anyone.” He pulled you closer to his lap, panic and adrenaline coursing through his veins. He knew there was nothing he could do. But he still tried. He still tried to grasp onto what little hope he had left; it was all happening too quickly.
“Hang on. I’ve got you, okay?” He choked out after the initial shock. The time you have left and the time he would be able to get you proper medical attention were so obviously not in his favor. He picked you up, carrying you on his back. And he just ran. His legs moved like he was going to die if he didn’t hurry. Quite frankly, he would most definitely die emotionally. Xiao couldn’t loose you. Not now, not ever. He wanted to live with you until your died of old age, peacefully where you could’ve smiled on your deathbed. He remembers how you used to get mad at him for carrying you like this. The way your cheeks heated up and you buried your face into his neck always got a goofy smile on his face. But now, you were clinging onto his back as best you could— though it was a loose grip, you used what energy you had left in you to let him know you were still there with him.
But soon, too soon, you wouldn’t be, and you both knew it. “Xiao,” you called weakly.
“I said hang on. I’ll get you medical help soon. Please, keep your eyes open. You still have time.”
“Xiao...”
“You can’t leave me like this. I swore to hold you and protect you and love you for the rest of my life. Out of the many promise I’ve broken I can’t... I can’t break this one.”
“Xiao, listen...” The utter amount of suffering in your voice tore him apart more than the searing pains in his limbs. He knew he wouldn’t be able to make it in time no matter how fast he ran. So he obliged to your request and set you in his lap once again. He stared at your face, covered in dirt and scars. Yet you still looked at beautiful as ever.
“Please. Don’t go. I won’t know what to do without you.”
“I’m always here with you even if...” You trailed off, both from the lack of oxygen you had and the discomfort of finishing your own sentence. You felt tears brimming in your eyes, as you saw Xiao in such a vulnerable and tormented state. “Xiao...”
He caressed your face like a mother would her child. The sting of his heart drowned any physical injuries he had. Nothing would hurt more than the thought of losing you. The grass scratched at your cheek, and you winced at the feeling. Xiao tucked a hair strand behind your ear. As he leaned down to press his forehead against yours.
“Xiao... You are and forever will be my Golden-Winged King.”
And that was when the tears spilled. Your body went cold and limp in his own very hands, your eyes that shone with love and purity where now dark and lifeless. The smile that lit up his world was gone; replaced with a face of sorrow eternally etched onto your features. Xiao wondered. Death was a pitiful punishment, yet somehow so enchanting. You still looked as heavenly as ever. It was only then the pain of truly losing you settled in. You were never going to grace his ears with your melodic voice. You were never going to grace his eyes with your smile. You were never going to grace his senses with your adoring hugs.
You were never to grace his life again.
The Golden-Winged King had a fall from grace, just as you did in his own very arms.

""Summary: meow””
It was a calm afternoon for {name},they had finished all their commissions with success and now were waiting for Xiao in the Inn as they watched the sunset.
Xiao and {name} were in a relationship for 3 years and half now and things were going smoothly,he had many sides but didn't know how to express it which put them in a complicated spot for a while but,as time went by,Xiao started to get more comfortable and that was something that {name} was very proud and happy to witness.
{name} was pulled away from their thoughts when they heard a loud cat hiss coming from behind them,as they turn around they see Childe holding a what it seems to be a very unfriendly mint cat “Little cutie!! You are here, that’s good..very good actually” Childe greeted as he struggled with the agitated animal in his arms “Childe?!! What-? I have the impression that I don’t want to know the answer but, what it’s up with the cat?” {name} asks as they got closer to the man “ah yeah, funny story actually, but before that, what are you doing here?” “Me? I was just waiting for Xiao to get back from his- pfft” {name} suddenly start to laugh when they made eye contact with the cat thinking about how similar it looked with Xiao, specially since it had the same forehead mark “hm? Why the laugh cutie?” {name} composed themselves before answering “I'm sorry,it's just that this cat looks so similar to Xiao I couldn’t help it” “oh! Maybe it's because it’s actually him” “yeah probably….Wait WHAT?!” {name} is standing there in shook with what just came out of Childe’s mouth “What do you mean with it’s him?!” Childe, still struggling with the feline in his arms that refused to stay quiet begin to explain “so long story short, I ran up with Xiao on one of the hilichurls camp and decided it was a good idea to get closer to him while I gave him a little hand during the fights, the problem started when a witch appeared and tried to attack me with some weird magic thing, so I dodged but, well,Xiao was behind me and ended up getting the hit instead and now he is like this” {name} was concern about the situation, but they also were more confused than anything “why a cat?”.
They got a down a little and asked the cat “are you really Xiao?” the animal that was fighting with all his strength to escape from Childe’s grasp went quiet and just stared at them before answering “Meow” Both of the human were left staring at each other before asking at the same time “what do we do now?” and with that they were both left thinking about a possible solution “OH I KNOW! First you take this-” Childe said as he passed the cat or better saying,Xiao to {name} arms which he didn't resist it and just stayed quiet listening to their conversation “-Now I need to pass by Liyue harbor and ask Zhongli-sensei for help,I’m sure he knows something about this that could help us” {name} actually thought that was a great idea, who better to solve this problem then the oldest Archon himself “that actually sounds great, please solve the issue that you caused mister Childe” they said with an annoyed tone “yes yes,and you-” the young man said as he got down to talk to Xiao “-try biting me again and I will give you as a special ingredient to Xiangling” he finished with a fake smile on his face while Xiao tried to attack the man’s face but {name} hold him before he could “well then,im off, good luck with the wild animal little cutie” and left, leaving Xiao and {name}  staring at each other “what do I do now” they thought to themselves.
“Xiao I swear to God if you run away one more time I-” they now found themselves trying to bathe Xiao in one of the round wood bathtubs of the Inn since he was extremely dirty and had some cuts over his body, but the cat seems to think different since from the moment he saw the tub he escaped from their grasp and is now running around the room “MEOW!?!” Xiao let it out a loud sound that could easily be translated it to “ARE YOU INSANE?” “Don’t you dare raise your meow at me old man! You're dirty and hurt from the battle so let me bathe you so then I can take care of your cuts” {name} said as they trapped the cat between the wall and lift him up in their arms with a tight grasp “MEOW!! MEOW MEOOW” the cat let it out as his lover took him to the tub and placed him in there.
Truth was that Xiao was embarrassed of being bathed by his lover, even if he was in this form, and for that reason he desperately tried to escape their arms and just as they successfully put him in the water he slipped out of it and run away… again.
They let it out a groan of frustration and said “Xiao listen to me,I need to bathe you so that your wounds don’t get infected and you get sick okay? So please come here and allow me to do that”{name} explained with a soft voice ,Xiao stared at them considering, his love did seem to be concerned about him, so him running away was only troubling them even more and realize that made him feel ashamed and childish for his actions.
The cat slowly approached {name},still felling incredibly embarrassed of being take care of by his lover since he was the one that usually did that, and rubbed his head against their hand “Are you ready now?” “Meow” “I will take that as a yes then” they said picking him off the floor and placing him in the warm water of the tub which made him relax immediately but still be aware of his surroundings,{name} took one of the cloths and proceed it to give Xiao a very relaxing bath.
“Done!!! Look at you-pfft” {name} had finally finished bathing and attending Xiao’s wounds and was admiring the cat in front of them that was wearing a lilac lace around his neck and had an irritated expression on his face “Meow, meow?” “Yes,I do think this is very fun and you look beautiful so don’t worry about it” they answered the animal while they got the bed ready for them,{name} decided it  it was better to stay the night at the Inn since they still need it to talk to Childe about the situation in the morning “come here” they said while tapping on their side pillow, Xiao seems hesitant but eventually gave in and hop on the bed laying besides his lover, {name} placed their hand behind his ear carenssing making him purr and lean in their direction for more contact “Even if this is not the best situation, today was fun right?” they said while they gave up to the exhaustation and fell asleep,Xiao stayed awake for a while before slowly snuggle even more into their arms allowing himself to relax, for him, the idea of being taken care of was new, but he liked, the felling of having someone that cared and were there for him was really nice and with this thought both of them slept peacefully during the night.
“What is even that?” {name} asked with a weird expression on their face, they were now talking with the Geo Archon, and he presented a weird solution which was to apply some odd shiny blue powder over Xiao’s body that would make him go back to normal “this was a present from a powerful sorcerer I used to know, but I must say I'm not aware of the side effects involved in it” Zhongli explains,{name} look down at the cat in their arms and asked “are you sure you still want to do it? We can search for other ways, safer ways” “meow!” Xiao was determined to get his human form again, this was too pathetic for him to bear “awn! Even when he looks so small and wear such a pretty lace he is still a warrior inside” Childe that was standing next to them made a joke making Xiao try to jump at him but being hold back, again,by {name} “Quiet you two, Childe did you bring Xiao clothes and spear?” “Yes,here it is” the Fatui said while placed them on the table “good, now {name} put him down and let’s begin” they let the cat go that stopped in the middle of the room “Now,I’ll start to apply it,ready?” Zholgli said as he got down “meow” and with applying the archon meant just turn the whole cup of powder on Xiao’s body making the room fill up with a blue smoke “What the- cof cof,Xiao are you okay?” {name} asked trying to see him in all that smoke “Yes,I’m fine” the deep and stern voice made it’s presence as the smoke stared to fade away “that's great- waah” they are surprised by a pair of hands covering their eyes “oh no” Childe whispered as he tight up the ‘blindfold’ around their eyes “sorry cutie, you can’t look now,if you know what I’m talking about” {name} understanding what he meant felt their cheeks heat up and just let it out a tiny ‘okay’.
But the silent atmosphere is soon cut off by Childe suddenly loud laugh coming from behind them and Xiao angered voice “What the hell is this?” {name} worried about what had happened to Xiao start to fight Childe grasp “What happened? Childe let me go!” “Well,I believe that’s what we call side effects little cutie” Childe said still laughing and removed his hand from their eyes
The first thing they notice was Zhongli peacefully drinking his tea in the corner of the room not seeming to care about a thing in the world, but their eyes soon fall on the man standing in the middle the room shirtless leaving his back tattoo and battle scares out in the opening, however that wasn't the problem, the problem was the fact the Xiao still had the cat ears and the tail on him “oh my God!” {name} said,to them,he looked adorable, specially since he still had the lace around his neck “don’t blame me,I warn you about the side effects” Zhongli calm voice said while Childe was still laughing “Isn't he cute?!” he made fun of the adepti “That’s it! I'm killing you right here right now!” Xiao said as he grabbed his spear but Childe didn't seem to be scared of death and continue to tease him “try me kitten” and with that they started to run around the room “just don’t break anything please” The Geo Archon says, still enjoying his tea “Zhongli how long do you think the uhm, Side effects are going to last?” they asked “hmm.. I would give a month and a half” the two grown man stopped frozen at their place “A MONTH AND A HALF?” all of them say at the same time “this is going to be a crazy month” {name} thought to themselves.

I’m going to create a canon divergence that is so self indulgent- *insert willow-whitley and kitty AU*
This is a concept I want to write in multiple short parts until I get bored and wear it out- so consider this just a pt. 1
I also wrote this with these last few   fics in mind, so you can think of this as a continuation of those. Or not. But a lot of the same themes do apply.
This is probably going to be first fic that I don’t write in one/two sittings but my classes are a pain in the ass ;_;
tw: eating disorder, alcoholism
_______________________________________________________________
  “I want a cat.”
  Willow blinked. “What?”
Her son fidgeted nervously on his feet. “A cat. I want to adopt a cat.”
  Well this is a... surprise.
Despite her and Whitley having lived on their own in Patch for a few months, he’s hardly spoken a world to her since the fall of Atlas. Or spoken a word to anyone, really. She put it up to the radically new environment, and well, the fact that Atlas is gone, the SDC is in shambles, and Jacques had been MIA (probably dead) since the fall. Winter and Weiss had insisted that Willow and Whitley settle down somewhere quiet and safe, and the islands off the coast of Vale weren’t exactly next on Salem’s attack checklist.
It was two of Weiss’ teammates who suggested they head to Patch, even offering to let their father know about their arrival. Willow had gently denied the kind offer, saying that Tai Xiao Long didn’t need to bother with them. They’ll be fine. She pretending not to notice the look on all their faces: a depressed alcoholic and her previously isolated, emotionally traumatized son?  Fine on their own?
She had then turned around, gathered Whitley (who was sitting on the bench behind her, ignoring attempts made by a few of Weiss’ companions to cheer him up even a little), and bought tickets for the next ship going from Vacuo to Vale.
Yet when the ship docked on the shore of the island, there stood a blonde, muscular man with a sign that read: Willow and Whitley Schnee, Welcome! in sharpie. He must have saw the confusion (and honestly a little fear) on her face from his standpoint on the harbor because he had quickly flipped the sign over and scribbled on it before holding it up again. My name is Tai Xiao Long. Yang and Ruby’s Father.
It seems that Weiss’ friends didn’t listen to me.
Nevertheless, Willow had breathed a sigh of relief. She had quite a few run ins with people on the journey east who recognized her and/or Whitley. The interactions have ranged from stares that were a little too long to pure hostility. It also didn’t help that some people thought it was okay to just grab any well known person they see- she almost broke a man’s arm after he had suddenly seized Whitley’s wrist and jerked him around. He’d probably be dead if Winter and Weiss were there, but Willow had settled on ripping the mans arm away with a glyph and dragging Whitley off quickly.
And now here they are, three months later and Willow was drinking a can of soda while enjoying the afternoon breeze on the front porch of their little cabin when Whitley approached her.
“A cat. I want to adopt a cat.”
She looked up at her son’s face and saw a familiar look of apprehension that everyone in their family had when faced with the prospect of having to ask for anything. Of course, before it usually involved asking Jacques, or begging more so. Willow had to approach this carefully or else Whitley is just going to recede back into his shell and not speak a word for another three months.
“Well... we can ask Mr. Xiao Long about it. He surely would know about any animal shelters around here.”
He scrunched up his nose, a face that she knew in Whitley Terms meant yeah okay... but I’m not happy about it.
Willow knew better than to suspect that Whitley disliked Mr. Xiao Long specifically. He avoided everyone these days- friendly neighbors, SDC businessmen, etc. Tai had made sure they were comfortable every step of the way. He had shown them around, introduced them to soon-to-be friends, brought them into his home for meals until Willow figured out her way around a kitchen, even invited Whitley to study at Signal Academy. He refused, but Willow appreciated the offer. And she knew Whitley appreciated it too, but he’s having a hard enough time coming to terms with Willow’s protectiveness of him, much less accept the fact that a stranger may also care slightly about him.
“Then what do you suggest we do?” Willow couldn’t help but to smile at his childish apprehension. She relished any show of adolescence in her son these days. After years of walking on eggshells and maintaining a facade just short of perfection, he needed to clumsily blunder around like any young teenager would do.
Whitley tugged at his long red sleeves. “There’s a stray kitten that comes around here at night...”
“You have that one in mind?”
He nodded. “I always hear it meowing outside my window. I want to try to bring it inside- I leave scraps outside my window but it always disappears by the time the sun rises. Maybe if I could get it to come to the porch... In Atlas, they said in the animal shelter that it takes a few weeks to socialize a kitten.”
He started at her expectantly. Willow had forgotten that Whitley would occasionally volunteer at one of the few animal shelters in Atlas. Jacques only allowed him to go just so he could milk all the PR he could out of it, obviously. But to this day, she had never actually heard Whitley speak about it unprompted. It must have been something he genuinely liked if he was so quiet about it. He knew full well that any hobby that he actually outwardly enjoyed was the first on Jacques’ chopping block if Whitley ever slipped up.
Willow stood up on the porch steps and faced her son. “Very well then. Tonight we’ll leave food out on the front porch and watch to see if it comes by.”
Whitley’s face brightened for the first time in months. “Really?”
“Mmhm.” She hummed. “Hopefully soon enough the kitten will like us and come inside...”
Willow’s chest ached at the overwhelming surprise on his face. Asking Jacques for anything always came with a catch, a quid pro quo. Looking back, Willow always knew love was a transaction to him. But being young and blinded by the man- she just accepted it as a slight character flaw. Whitley didn’t know anything other than this.
She was going to get him this kitten even if she had to crawl in the shrubbery at midnight looking for it.
For the next few hours he assisted Willow in the kitchen for the first time since they got to Patch. Mostly because he wanted to get the kittens food out as fast as he could, but she wasn’t complaining. She watched as Whitley cut up a cooked chicken breast into bite sized little pieces, his tongue slightly sticking out as he concentrated. She wondered, briefly, if it was safe to allow him to handle a kitchen knife. Willow shook the thought away. He isn’t a child. She wouldn’t insult him by treating him like one. But she still had to be a mother... if it wasn’t too late.
She tried to be as hands off as she could in these last few months while trying to muster what parental authority she could without scaring Whitley away. He was free to spend his time to do whatever he liked just as long as it was safe and he went to bed on time. Eating three solid meals a day was also a requirement, but that was a sensitive issue that Willow didn’t know how to approach with conviction. He has been cooperative for the most part in this aspect- which came as a surprise since Whitley has spent years trying to maintain whatever little control he had over his own life by strictly regulating what went inside his mouth and when. Which often meant very little eating.
Willow didn’t want to name the condition out loud. If she did, then it would become a problem. Then she would have to admit that all of this still wasn’t enough to fix everything. Then she would start wanting a drink-
Maybe everyone was right. Maybe her and Whitley were simply too broken to be able to live on their own.
But they haven’t been living on their own, have they? Mr. Xiao Long still came by a few times a week to “check up on how y’all are adapting”, as he says. More like to make sure I’m not passed out drunk and Whitley hadn’t taken the opportunity to jump off a cliff, Willow thought bitterly.
She still didn’t know how much Weiss and her friends told him - but they must have been pretty honest if he was going to be this concerned. Willow cringed at the thought of how he must see her - a failure of a mother. Not only that, but one who’s too afraid to confront the fact that her son is sick and needs help, but she can’t help because she’s not enough-
  “I’m done.”
Willow blinked out of her increasingly chaotic thoughts to see Whitley holding a small bowl of chopped chicken, staring at her expectantly.
Maybe I should stop thinking so much.
“Lets put it out on the front porch then,” Willow grabbed both their plates of spaghetti off the kitchen counter. “We can eat by the window and watch for the kitten.”
Whitley frowned. “Can we keep the front door open? Maybe if it sees us enough times then it will get used to us eventually.”
“Whatever you want darling,” She replied, already on her way to the living room.
And so they sat eating dinner, she on the edge of the couch and he on the floor on front of the open door. They sat in silence, but it was a comfortable one - Whitley watching the outside intently for the kitten and Willow watching him absentmindedly eat. A few minutes turned into an hour and she began to wonder if the kitten was going to show tonight, but a tiny scampering sound brought her and her son back to attention.
The kitten emerged from the shrubbery.
  It was beautiful.
It was small, only about a few weeks old. Its pitch black fur made it almost impossible to see without the aid of the moonlight. Its little white socks on its paws and glowing eyes gave it away as it inched slowly towards the now cold bowl of chicken.
Willow held her breath, and she knew Whitley was too. The kitten tentatively ate from the bowl, unaware of the two humans watching it. It seemed about half way through when Whitley, unknowing, leaned forward- causing his now empty plate to slide off his lab and hit the wood floor. The sound wasn’t loud, but in the silence of the night it was like a gunshot.
The kitten’s head snapped up, ears perked in attention. For an almost comical millisecond, the kitten stared at the two of them and they stared back, everyone wide eyed. Then it turned and ran off back where it came, leaving behind nothing but a bowl of half eaten chicken.
Willow braced herself for Whitley’s inevitable disappointment. But instead, when she turned toward him she saw an expression of joy. His eyes are brighter than she had ever seen them, not since he was a child.
  “She’s a girl,” He said.
She furrowed her brow. “How do you know that?”
“When she turned around and ran - I saw her backside. I think she’s a girl.”
Willow smiled. “Very well then. One discovery is good enough for tonight.”
Standing up, she reached for both of their used dishes and softly closed the front door shut. “Time for bed.”
Whitley didn’t complain. He headed off the bed while Willow cleaned up the kitchen- a menial task that she never had to do back in atlas. But she found a peace in it. If given the choice, she would take a lifestyle of chores over the decadent one she had before. Ten times out of ten. This felt real.
In the back of her mind, she remembered the chicken left outside. After considering, she decided to leave it out in case the kitten came back. She would make sure that Whitley would have this kitten eventually. It was the least she could do.

My Epic MDZS/The Untamed Daemon AU
I’m sure other people have already done Daemon AUs, but this idea wouldn’t leave me alone. I have been working on this for like three weeks now.
I just wrote down my first instinctive thought for most characters, and then researched* further into subspecies etc. What I found for a lot of the animals made me agree with my first opinion even more, although all of these are obviously just my own opinions. I also decided to stick to non-mythological animals. (some characters have been given a lot more consideration than others, I’m sorry)
Wei Wuxian: beech marten Beech martens are quick and clever. The are nocturnal, omnivores, and skilled swimmers. They move through paths made by larger animals such as hares in the snow. {further notes under read more}
Lan Wangji: white hare More solitary animals. They have an association with the moon, which I tend to associate LWJ with. {f/n}
Jiang Cheng: osprey Aquatic birds; good hunters. {f/n}
Lan Xichen: white stag {f/n}
Jiang Yanli: asian black bear {explained in detail under the read more}
Jin Zixuan: lion Ngl it’s probably because the Persian pokemon reminds me of him
Jin Guangyao: domestic cat {f/n}
Nie Huiasang: pangolin {f/n}
Nie Mingju: wolf {f/n}
Wen Qing: Chinese sparrowhawk {f/n}
Wen Ning: black Formosan mountain dog (tuguo) {f/n}
Lan Sizhui: Xiasi Quan dog or red panda or badger {f/n}
Jin Ling: lion {f/n}
Lan Jingi: monkey They’re respected animals but also have a mischievous side
Ouyen Zihzen: capybara No, they’re not native to China, but this is what I imagined him as and I couldn’t get it out of my head or find a perfect substitute
Xiao Xinchen: swan He just gives me major swan vibes, possibly something to do with Swan Lake (as do some Lans but they’re not graceful in the same way or tragic in the same way)
Song Lan: oriental hobby falcon or black horse He struck me as some sort of raptor, but I also liked a horse for him
Luo Qingyang/Mianmian: lynx
Lan Qiren: sheep Symbolise filial piety. Also follow other people without question (*cough* the Lan Sect elders)
Jiang Fengiman: otter Spends a lot of time around the water, just what popped into my head
Yu Ziyuan: snake Because Zidian
The Jiang Sect favour animals who live near or on the water, some even possessing daemons which are fully aquatic, and thus are unable to leave Lotus Pier
The Lan Sect usually have herbivore animals for daemons and favour swift, elegant animals.
The Jins tend towards lions and panthers, but also flashy, rich birds like pheasants and peacocks (which makes WWX’s nickname for JZX even more funny).
The Nies often have pack or herd animals. Wolves and mountain lions are very common, but also a lot of horned animals like oxen, mountain goats and sheep (bighorn sheep and ibex are common), and also wild boar.
The Wens were typically birds of prey (the Dire Owl becomes Wen Chao’s daemon) or mountain cats.
The Yus often have daemons which take reptile form. Wildcats also common.  I quite like the idea that the Yus are a sect which has cultivated the ability to separate themselves from their daemons.
~Further notes on why I picked these animals, Daemon settling, angsty AUs of my AU, and research disclaimer under the cut~
Story & Research Notes:
(I’m going with the idea that trauma can make a daemon settle into a particular form)
WWX A marten was the first thing to come to mind for WWX, I have no idea why, but the more I thought about it the more I liked it. They’re really inquisitive, playful, and cute, but are also predators and will fuck you up if necessary.  A crow was another obvious choice because they’re curious and inventive, but with a bit of a dark connotation. However, in my version at least (I’m not great on His Dark Materials canon), Daemons usually settle in the early teens, and at that point WWX really didn’t have as much darkness in him as he develops later.
I think WWX was one of those people whose daemon changed with every thought and feeling of his, whose daemon changed so rapidly and so repeatedly that people would complain of motion sickness watching it. His daemon’s most common forms were a martin, a magpie, an otter (which drove Madam Yu nuts), and (after JYL’s settled) very occasionally a bear.
When WWX comes back most people don’t realise anything is wrong because Mo Xuanyu always hid his daemon (I think it was probably something like a field mouse although how funny would it be if Little Apple was actually his daemon and WWX unknowingly inherited her along with the body), so they just think his has settled into something too big to hide now. However, his beech martin is the other reason Lan Wangji knows who Wei Wuxian is (WWX’s daemon hides from Jiang Cheng at Dafan Mountain, so JC only suspects it’s WWX). (Angsty AU further down)
LWJ I know that arctic hares aren’t native to China, but I want you to pretend that something like that does exist because I need lwj to have a white hare daemon. They are also bigger than other hares and cuter (they look slightly less cursed than some hares do). I’m imagining a lot of the daemons being slightly bigger than their real-life animal counterparts would be, so imagine the ears coming up to a normal person’s hip-height when the daemon is sitting. Rabbits can also apparently symbolise hope, and that suits someone who is known to go where the chaos is, bringing hope and light in the darkness.
As a child, LWJ’s daemon was expressive in a way he never could be. It liked to take snow leopard form a lot, which was seen as excessively violent to the Lan sect, who preferred non-carnivorous animals, and often snarled at people. His daemon always took snow leopard form when visiting his mother so it could curl up with her tiger daemon.
LWJ’s daemon settled exceptionally early, shortly after his mother’s death, into an acceptable hare form. Lan Xichen always wondered if LWJ himself made his daemon settle, if she was not supposed to have been a snow leopard all along, and so always looks upon LWJ’s daemon with a bit of sadness because he feels like it was LWJ stifling - almost killing off - a part of his personality (spoiler: it was) in order to fit into the Lan sect.
(More on that in an angsty AU below)
JC Ngl, I wanted to make Jiang Cheng a goose because they’re always angry but I didn’t. Jiang Cheng shifted mostly between a hunting dog and a mouse as a child, both of which infuriated Yu Ziyuan (honestly what she wanted her children’s daemons to be even I don’t know). Jiang Cheng’s daemon settled very late (another thing his mother wasn’t happy with). In fact, it didn’t settle till the attack on Lotus Pier and the death of his parents, when it took the shape of an osprey (because he wanted to be able to fly away and pretend none of it ever happened).
Even more angsty: One Chinese poem has the Osprey as a symbol of marital harmony and fidelity. Upon seeing his parents death, finally united in a way they hadn’t been in life, JC’s constant wish for his parents to love each other (and, by extension, him) physically manifests itself in his daemon.
JYL I know what you’re thinking. Why the hell did you give Jiang Yanli a bear of all people. Well I’ll tell you. For two reasons: one, because I can do what I want, and two, because I would say one of JYL’s most central characteristics is her wish to look after people. She’s not physically strong in the way most other cultivators are, however, and she’s always having to keep the peace at home - and so I can see her daemon becoming a physical manifestation of that need to protect (bears are known to be protective, particularly mothers), and a physical example of her inner strength which is so often overlooked.
Yanli shifted between a dove, a crane, and a maritime striped squirrel for most of her childhood. She favoured the squirrel and dove (incredibly mild animals) over the crane, which disappointed Madam Yu.  It’s one of the reasons Jin Zixuan never saw her as a potential match, her daemon too small and docile to match his almost constant lion daemon.
When Jiang Yanli was around fourteen Madam Yu took things with Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng too far one day, and Yanli saw it. Her daemon suddenly shifted into a bear, a form it had never taken up to that point, and jumped on Yu Ziyuan’s snake daemon. WWX and JC always remembered Yanli standing in the doorway, her expression placid while her huge bear daemon growled with absolute fury and menace. Everyone expected Yanli’s daemon to go back to its usual squirrel or dove form, but it never did. It remained a bear, and remained the biggest daemon of pretty much anyone in any of the sects.
I had already picked a crane as one of JYL’s potential daemons because of its connection to water and positive symbolism in China. Upon further (hopefully accurate) research, I saw that cranes depicted with lotuses in Chinese art symbolise purity and longevity, and I liked making her daemon a bear even more, because her daemon took that form to protect WWX and JC - years after her death, they both wondered if, had her daemon had taken crane form, maybe she wouldn’t have died. From what I found, “crane” is also a homophone for 合 hé “peace, harmony”, which is a quality Jiang Yanli had much of, and tried to inspire in others.
LXC I think its LXC’s hairpiece which always makes me think of deer antlers (even though it’s a dragon?), so that’s probably why I immediately thought of a stag for him. But stags are also very noble and refined looking animals which don’t tend towards violence, but also have horns for a reason. Obviously, like with LWJ, it’s a white stag because aesthetique. Upon further research, I discovered a (hopefully correct) source which says 鹿 lù (deer) is a homonym with 璐 lù (precious jade), and the character for deer is used within the character 丽 lì ‘beautiful; elegant’ - both fit LXC very well.
JGY Cats are sneaky little fuckers (I say this with love). The ultimate predator in small unassuming form. Many of the main Jin family have big cat daemons so this is kind of another smack in the face for JGY - so close to being a real part of the Jin family, but still kept apart from them - and something people like to bring up along with his mother. However, many Jins are also birds (including JGS), and cats prey on birds.
NHS I thought a fox was a bit on the nose. Also I like the way pangolin’s just drop and curl up in defence - it’s a viable form of protection, but to the outside appears cowardly. However, their scales are sharp and can cut predators who come after them. Also I didn’t want him to fit into any of his sect’s typical animals. Also also imagine how cute it would look being carried around everywhere by NHS because it’s too lazy to walk, absolutely adorable.
NMJ A wolf was what immediately came to mind for Nie Mingjue. Wolves are apparently sometimes associated with greed, self-interest, and lechery, but I think the pack elements and the carnivore/hunting nature of the wolf really suits NMJ and the Nie clan in general, so I decided to overlook that aspect (although I did briefly consider making JGS a wolf, but I like them as animals too much in real life to do that to them and also he doesn’t have a soul, so he doesn’t get a daemon).
WQ I always saw Wen Qing as some sort of hawk, I just think it suits her very well. The Chinese sparrowhawk is quite small and very beautiful. It has white, red and grey colours. They are good hunters and swift flyers.
WN I knew I wanted Wen Ning to be some sort of dog because he’s very loyal, and also (angsty) when the Jins call the Wens dogs I wanted that to hurt even more. He’s very unusual for a Wen, none of the main sect have dog daemons - it is very much a thing that is specific to their branch of the Wen family. The mountain dog I picked for him is an endangered breed, which I also felt fitted WN well. From what I found, dogs symbolise watchful wisdom, honesty, and loyalty, which all fit Wen Ning.
This was all perfect till I remembered WWX’s all-consuming fear of dogs. I decided to get round this by cheating and saying that for some reason daemons are different and he’s not scared of them (because they represent a part of someone’s soul, rather than being a real animal? I guess?? Please do not look too hard at this delicately constructed card tower)
Angsty version: when Wen Ning becomes a fierce corpse he loses his daemon, another reason people are unsettled by him and another thing WWX feels guilty about.
LSZ I think Lan Sizhui was the hardest to pick. I couldn’t decide which way to go: should he follow a “Lan approved” daemon pattern; should he have a bird like Wen Qing and a lot of other Wens? Then I saw the Xiasi Quan and it’s white and fluffy and cute but it was also a hunting and a guard dog, which seemed right for him. And I liked that it gave LSZ and WN this one very tangible connection. It is also endangered.  However, I also liked a red panda and a badger for Lan Sizhui too. I really couldn’t decide between the three. I like them all, why is he the hardest to choose for? (I’m still not 100% happy with this, let me know if you have any alternative suggestions)
Again, please suspend your disbelief at the fact that WWX’s child has a dog daemon and he’s fine with this (it would have looked so cute as a little puppy running around the Burial Mounds though).
When he was younger his daemon liked to take on the forms of those closest to him. So you’d often see a bby marten running after WWX’s daemon, a tiny bird perched with Wen Qing’s sparrow-hawk, a puppy following Wen Ning’s dog around, and a tiny bby rabbit in Cloud Recesses. As he got older it shifted between the dog, a red panda, and a badger. (maybe I’ll just say his hasn’t settled yet and that’s why I can’t decide)
JL Jin Ling definitely also had a daemon which shifted because of a) his loved ones and b) his mood, and he hated it. As if his own explosive temper didn’t give him away enough, his daemon always showed his exact feelings. When he wanted nothing more than his mother to be there it would be a bear. When he was feeling defensive about his parents it would turn into a lion (this happens when he and WWX first meet and any time people talk about his parents’ deaths). When he was younger his daemon spent a lot of time as a cat and a bird, although different types to what his uncles had.
Jin Ling’s daemon still hasn’t settled when WWX is resurrected, and he is absolutely mortified the one time it decides to turn into a beech marten like WWX’s. Eventually it will settle into a lion, and WWX will pretend to be grumpy that it didn’t choose a bear instead.
Angsty AUs:
Daemons are linked to golden cores Jiang Cheng loses his daemon along with his core. When Wei Wuxian’s core is removed it’s more like when daemons and humans are separated in the books. His daemon stays with him, but can move about freely - this is part of what causes WWX to rapidly destabilise, not just resentful energy. Jiang Cheng always feels weirdly aware of WWX’s daemon after that but doesn’t know why. WWX’s daemon is technically connected to JC too, and also finds this weird. JC also can’t work out why his daemon never came back with his golden core, and that loss is part of why he’s so angry and isolated.
The effect of trauma on Daemons Another angsty au is based on the idea that, if trauma can make your daemon settle early, then trauma can also make it change.
When Wei Wuxian is thrown into the Burial Mounds, he wishes so hard to be able to fly that his beech marten turns into a crow (because I do love a crow for him too). I kind of like the idea that after the Burial Mounds WWX’s daemon almost un-settles itself, and can change between a marten and a crow. This really freaks people out and is another reason people say he’s dangerous.
Similarly, after Wei Ying’s death and the Lan sect’s punishment, Lan Wangji wakes up to find his daemon has shifted from its hare to snow leopard form. In his soul, LWJ feels like if he had been less passive and actually stood with WWX then his soulmate would still be alive. His daemon changes from a more passive hare to the more aggressive snow leopard.
He’s criticised by the elders for it, but they shut up when his daemon flattens theirs, while LWJ’s face remains an impassive mask but his eyes promise murder. WWX is really sad when he comes back to see LWJ’s hare gone and blames himself for causing LWJ so much trauma his daemon changed. (personally if I were writing a Daemon AU this is what I would have happen, because I love LWJ with a snow leopard daemon - they symbolise bravery and martial ferocity, while rabbits are virtue and gentleness, and I feel like these two both accurately represent the two sides of LWJ. I really feel like LWJ has a huge shift in himself after WWX’s death which would be represented in his daemon. It also is, in a way, a return of a core part of himself which was lost after his mother’s death)
Sword/Instrument substitute Mixing Daemons with sword sprits - the animal becomes a physical representation of the spiritual tool. Some people could therefore have more than one daemon (for example, LWJ could have Bichen - his rabbit sword daemon - and Wangji - his snow leopard guqin daemon)
Angsty version: WWX actually does die in the burial mounds and Suibian, his beech martin, dies/changes into Chenqing, a raven/crow.

If you are reading this you have made it to the end of this post, well done.
I wanted to make it shorter but I had too many ideas and wanted to explain my reasoning for my choices and decided just to put it all in one post rather than lots of little ones.
*Disclaimer: I know only the smallest amount of Chinese, and have taken all my information about imagery, word meanings, and homophones etc from web-sources, and so it is very possible I have made mistakes. Though I have, to the best of my abilities, attempted to check on the cultural/artistic meaning, if any, that certain animals have in Chinese culture, the internet lies and I can’t get any decent books on it atm as the libraries are closed, so I’m really sorry if there are errors and I hope people will forgive any mistakes or blunders I might have made.

Nine Percent Scenarios for @ninepercent._.forever on IG
Tumblr media
Cause she chose majority soft pics, so here is a soft group pic of the boys uwu <3
Cai Xukun
Tumblr media
Can I just say one more time, silver hair Kunkun is *chefs kiss*
Alright, for this, I’d imagine that Kun was attending your graduation (high school or university, whichever you’d like) and when it was finally your turn to go up and take your paper/medal/diploma, etc; Kun would instantly smile, pointing at you/wave at you when you turn around to face the audience. I would also feel that Kun would brag about you to the people around him (if it’s your parents then he’ll be like ‘she’s so amazing’).
“That’s my girl!! Yeap!! That stunning, breath-taking, kind-hearted, smart girl is mine. You go sweetheart!!”
Chen Linong
Tumblr media
OMO LOOK HOW SOFT NONGNONG IS WITH THAT CAT!! I DIE
Alright!! For this one, I feel that you guys are roommates and were heading back when you guys noticed this cat that doesn’t look alright. Nongnong (being the animal lover he is) would go over to the cat and pet it. When Nongnong said that the cat seems to be sick, he would suggest to bring it to the vet; which you agreed, without question.
After getting checked, the vet gave Nongnong a prescription and Nongnong just held the cat in his arms, soothing it and telling it that it’ll be alright. Upon the sight, you just can’t help but die of cuteness and just had to take a picture of him.
“Don’t worry lil guy, I got you. You’re going to be just fine!!” *insert is uwu smile*
Fan Chengcheng
Tumblr media
Alright, alright, for this pic of Chengcheng, I feel that he was bored at home and was like “Hey!! (Y/N)!! Let’s go out!! I’m bored” and since you were also just being a couch potato (mind you, a hot couch potato), you were like “ehhh, I don’t see why not”. Especially when Chengcheng is the one picking you up and dropping you back.
So, the two of you went out the whole day. Had brunch together then went to the mall to do some window shopping/actual shopping, whichever one you are. Afterwards, you guys just decided to walk along the streets for a bit before going back home. Along the way, it started to snow and you were mesmerised by it and didn’t noticed that Chengcheng was staring until you turned around to see him (cue the pic).
“Isn’t it pretty Cheng?”
“Sure is” (looks at you)
Justin Huang Minghao
Tumblr media
I SWEAR!! JUSTIN CAN LOOK 20+ IN ONE MINUTE AND 16 IN THE NEXT. LIKE HOW?!
Anyways, I imagine that you guys were just hanging out since it was finally winter break. So, Justin decided to celebrate your winter break by inviting you to join him for a little outing. Like, he’s so full of energy, he wants to go out and just move!! So, the two of you were now walking along the park when you started to feel tired from all the walking and decided to take a break by just sitting down on a bench, looking at the beautiful scenery in front of you. When Justin decided to sit next to you and look at you and you were a bit taken aback when he gave you that face (the picture).
“Wh-what are you looking at?”
“You. I never noticed how much your eyes are glowing. It’s pretty. And not to mention your smile. It’s just contagious. I hope that you would smile often from now on”
Lin Yanjun
Tumblr media
Alright, I have no idea why she chose this pic of Yanjun. Clearly, you wanted to kill me huh, Aliya? Anyways, we’ll see what scenario I got
For this specific pic, since my dear friend wanted the boys to either be your guy friend/boyfriend, this is what I came up with. You and Yanjun were childhood friends; with Yanjun being like 4-5 years older and was the heir to a company which you decided to apply for. Of course, you still had to go through interviews and everything; Yanjun believes that you can never take the easy way out.
However, the difference between you and your co-workers is that Yanjun would always asks you about your job at the end of the day which he knows that you worked hard since he heard it from your supervisor. Working under Yanjun was tough but he would never give you work that he knows you can’t handle and every now and then he would definitely treat you by taking you to your favourite restaurants/cafes at the weekend.
You have been working so hard and slowly climbed your way and was now Yanjun’s secretary. However, there were definitely some workers that were jealous of that. They’d be like “how can she become his secretary?” “just look at her! She doesn’t even look that good” and many more. But, it never really bothered you since you knew that dealing with those people are just a waste of your time and childish.
Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. Sure, you tried your best to not care. But when those people started being physical, it was just too hard to handle. You were constantly dozing away and easily distracted that Yanjun himself became worried. He would asked you every now and then but you didn’t tell him, you didn’t want to bother him since he was basically “shouldering” your expenses.
But fear not!! One day, he finally caught the workers red-handed. You were just about to get lunch for both you and Yanjun when the elevator didn’t work and so, you took the stairs. However, those jealous workers caught you, some of them purposely bumped into you, making the food you brought fall onto yourself. But little did they know that Yanjun was passing by since he forgot to handover a document to his management team. At first, Yanjun was already ready to come in and fight. But when he saw that it was you, he didn’t hesitate one bit. He shouted at the workers, scaring them and you.
To say that the workers were scared was an understatement. Nope, they were petrified at this point. Yanjun was walking down the stairs, hands in his pockets and his gaze, colder than ever. He went to your side, asking you if you were alright but all you could do was let out a little hiccup. Noticing your state, Yanjun pulled you into a hug, looking back at the workers and told them that he’ll deal with them later and he hope that they have cleaned their belongings from the office.
“OI!! WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?!”
“Sshhh, are you alright? Is this why you’ve been dozing off lately?”
“J-jun...”
“ *sigh* I’ll deal with all of you later. Oh, and I hope that by the time I call you to my office, all of your belongings are packed”
“Is alright, I got you (Y/N). Please tell me the next time this happens”
“B-but...you just fired them?”
“(Y/N)...you’re too sweet sometimes, you know that? I hope you know that things like this shouldn’t be taken lightly. I care about you, you know. Now c’mon, let’s get you cleaned up and I’ll order some food for us, your favourites, kay?”
HOW DO I WRITE SO LONG FOR HIM?! AND WITH THIS KIND OF SCENARIO!! AGGHHH CURSE MY WRITING
Zhu Zhengting
Tumblr media
Mama Ting holding a big fluffy panda?! Welp, time to fly over to visit him (JK)
So, I feel that the two of you were hanging out all day, just a normal day of at your place, cooking, baking and watching TV shows/films all day when suddenly, the sun finally sets and it was night time. Since the both of you were too tired to cook, Zhengting suggested you guys have dinner at a nearby restaurant which of course, in the end, mama Ting paid for everything.
Whilst walking you back home, you both saw this place with a claw machine and you just so happen to see a huge panda in there. Determined to get it, you spent quite a pretty penny on it but failed to grabbed it. However, mama Ting decided to step in and get the doll for you. Which he finally did, after 7 tries.
“Th-the panda...Let me have the panda...please!!”
“Step aside (Y/N), I’ll get it for you!!”
“OMO!! TING!! YOU GOT IT!!”
“I GOT IT!!! Uhh, can I cuddle with it until we reached your home?”
“Is alright, since you got it, it should be yours”
“Eh?! Really?! I’M GOING TO GET TWO NEXT TIME!!”
Wang Ziyi
Tumblr media
Can I say, Ziyi, multitasking to a new level man!!
So, for this pic, I thought that it’s been a while since you and Ziyi went out to grab a bite or catch up because he was very busy. However, since it was your birthday, he really didn’t want to cancel anymore plans. So, instead! He just cancelled meetings and all but he still brought a few work with him; works that he can easily finish in a short amount of time. Though he would apologise first-hand that he still had some unfinished business to take care of before you even got a chance to ask him.
“I’m really sorry that I had to bring some work with me today, (Y/N)”
“It’s fine Ziyi. I’m just happy that you even had the time to take me out”
“It’s your birthday. I wouldn’t miss it for anything else. Even though I’m technically somewhat working right now”
“I said it’s fine Ziyi. I’m happy that you’re here to spend the day with me”
“Aishh, you’re too nice (Y/N). Eh, eat up, the food will get cold! I just need to sign a few of these then I’m all yours for the day :)”
Xiao Gui
Tumblr media
It’s been a while since I saw a soft Gui but hey!! I aint complaining!!
For Xiaogui, I feel that you finally graduated from university and was on your way back home. Well to be exact you were already back, it’s just that Xiaogui hasn’t had the time to see you. But!! He made it his mission that when he does see you, he would give you a surprise that you would never thought of.
He texted you saying that he had some free time and would like to meet up at the park that you guys used to hang out back in school. But little did you know that when you walked by the park, you saw Xiaogui, sitting on the stairs with a bouquet in his hands, a smile slowly formed on his face the minute you came into his sight.
“Kai (Wang Linkai, yea), wh-what’s all this? Are we going somewhere? OOH!! Is it for a special someone?”
“They sure are. You!”
“That’s...wait?! Me?! Wh-what?!” *cue blushing mess*
“Of course!! Congratulations on finishing your degree!! I’m proud of you (Y/N). Sorry that I have been very busy but, I wanted to do something special since you always send me something special. So, dinner?”
“I’d love to!! Thank you Kai!!”
You Zhangjing
Tumblr media
Zhangjing in a suit!! YIKES!!! I NEED TO BREATHE!! PHEW!! OKAY!! ONTO THE SCENARIO!!
So, this is another slightly hard scenario to think of. But, here goes nothing. So, I imagine that you guys decided to have a date night since it has been a while you guys had like an actual proper date night. HECK!! Zhangjing even went all out and booked your favourite restaurant and brought out his suit for crying out loud!! Anyways, the date night, as you’d expect, was lovely. Zhangjing made sure that you get whatever food/drink you’d like then of course, Zhangjing being the responsible gentleman he is, brought you home. However, on you way back, you guys saw this bush with roses on them. And you know what Zhangjing did?
“Hey (Y/N)!!”
“Hmm? What is it Zhangjing?”
“Roses are red, violets are blue. I may not be able to rhyme but there is nothing prettier than you”
“OMG ZHANGJING!! STAWWPP!! Or more like, stop asking Yanjun for pick up lines for crying out loud!!”

Physical Description: Odontochelys is one of the earliest known turtles - preceded by one, possibly two, precursors other than stem members of the family group - and it showcases how this extremely unique group managed to evolve in the chaos that was the Triassic Explosion. It was simultaneously similar to and very different from living turtles, a true transitional organism. Like other reptiles, it had teeth embedded in its jaws, rather than the toothless beak found in turtle mouths. Like turtles, it had the lower plastron extending from its ribs, but unlike living turtles it had no upper shell - instead, it just had widened ribs and no bony shell around its body. The ribs and the vertebrae were put together differently from modern turtles as well, and its skull was more stretched out compared to its living relatives. It didn’t have fused tail bones, and its scapulae were very different from living turtles. It had short limbs and long, thick fingers, as well as a decently sized shell. It was about forty centimeters long from snout to tail tip.
Diet: The diet of Odontochelys is fairly uncertain, despite us having its teeth; though they are small and peg like, we can’t really extrapolate a function since we don’t actually know its precise ecology! They may have been used for stripping plants, but it’s also possible they were used to chipp up algae and other aquatic water plants, or even invertebrates! So, more research there is clearly needed.
Behavior: The life history of Odontochelys is actually a big mystery. It was found in a marine environment, leading initial studies to indicate it was marine. However, it had the hands of a fresh water organism, including fresh water turtles today. Furthermore, studies of other early turtles indicate that turtles first arose on the land, rather than in the water, and later groups would adapt to water life; the limbs of Odontochelys share similarities with tortoises and support a terrestrial lifestyle. So, the ecology of Odontochelys has been a constant battle. That said, there is some evidence that it was actually marine - and may represent an early experiment in ocean life by turtles. One fossil of Odontochelys indicates that it had completely messed up shoulder bones, likely due to a problem in life rather than destruction of the fossil. This pattern resembles decompression sickness, aka the bends, aka the condition caused by a diving animal coming up much too fast from a lower depth. Modern turtles have complex behavioral adaptations to avoid the bends, so Odontochelys may be an early experiment in marine life in a group mostly adapted for terrestrial life. In this transition to ocean life, it not only lacked better physical adaptations for the ocean, but also better behavioral ones, and was stricken with the bends on its trip back to the surface. So, as we try to determine its ecology and behavior, these clued paint a rich tapestry of the world’s most transitional turtle. A pioneer!
Ecosystem: Odontochelys was found in - and thus, the null hypothesis is that it lived in - an ocean environment near the coast of the Tethys sea. This was a deep, open ocean - pelagic, hence the bends and problems Odontochelys faced trying to deal with the ocean. It was a very fertile ecosystem as well, with a variety of Triassic marine animals showcasing the rapid evolution of these groups. Among the invertebrates, there were many different types of Ammonites, plenty of bivalves, brachiopods, and crinoids & sea cucumbers as well. Still, the fascinating part of the ecosystem was the sheer number of marine reptiles. There were Thalattosaurs such as Anshusaurus and Xinpusaurus; Placodonts like Psephochelys and Sinocyamodus; and Ichthyosaurs like Qianicthyosaurus, Guizhouichthyosaurus, Guanlingsaurus, and Callawayia. One of many beautiful deposits of marine animals from this Period - and the many Ichthyosaurs would have been major predators of the relative n00b Odontochelys.
Other: Odontochelys also just looks really weird because it basically looks like your usual turtle except it doesn’t have a freaking shell so here we are with this oddity. It’s transitional in shape, transitional in ecology, transitional in behavior, and just. What the heck. What the heck, Odontochelys. If you need more proof for evolution despite knowing about the dinosaur - bird transition, have I got a friend for you.

Volume 1, Chapter 3-Promise
Content warnings: ableism mention
The young master of the Shen family had his snake venom purged clean, and he has regained consciousness; the young master of the Shen family can take a meal without help, and recline in bed to read; the young master of the Shen family was once again sunbathing in the courtyard…
The good news came one right after another. Although for Shen Qingxuan, it only meant that he could yet again linger on death’s door for another few years. Still, this did not hinder the old steward from burning the articles for the funeral rites to ashes in a fire. Even still, it did not prevent Master Shen, in his joyous exultation, from sending out a caravan to the southernmost wild lands and forfeiting high interests as thanks to the merchants who sent those two “detoxifying panacea” pills that year.
The banquet was set up, with family and friends filling all the seats.
The fragrant smell of wine lingered in the mountains, and the servants who were on edge for several days could finally dare to speak loudly.
Shen Qingxuan sat upon his wooden wheelchair, draped with a fox fur cloak and a silky soft quilt on his knees completely covered his legs. In one hand, he held a very thin little book, reading it quietly with his head tilted. Some of the noise from the outer hall slipped through the half closed window, laughter and drumming, as well as the tinkling sound of crisscrossing cups coming together.
Except, these things seemed to have nothing to do with him.
After a while, Shen Qingxuan felt a bit thirsty, but the tea was already cold. As he held the cooled porcelain in his hand, Shen Qingxuan thought of the palm that covered his forehead that day. Although it was a completely different sensation, that hand and this porcelain cup, however, had the exact same temperature. Ice cold, without a trace of human warmth.
His train of thought meandered and then returned to the matter at hand. Shen Qingxuan shook the brass bell, and after that, grasped this object that had been with him for many years, fiddling with it in his hand as he usually does.
The maidservant who heard the summoning bell quickly opened the door and came in. Without needing his prompt, she cleverly dumped the cold tea, resteeped the pot hot water, and stoked the charcoal fire in the handwarmer
Tumblr media
before placing it back onto Shen Qingxuan’s lap.
Only once everything was done properly did the maidservant stand aside and quietly say, “Although shaoye did not drink wine tonight, perhaps it is better to rest earlier. Your health has just improved a little bit, yet you are already taxing yourself by reading a book.”
Shen Qingxuan lightly inclined his head, drank a cup of tea, and picked up his book again, continuing to thumb through it.
Upon seeing this, the maidservant lit a couple more of the oil lamps in the room, making the light a bit brighter, and only then did she withdraw and close the door.
After only a moment’s time, the doors of the wing-room were pushed open again. Shen Qingxuan raised his eyes to look. Outside the doors stood a young woman with her beautiful hair brushed high, and looking inside with hesitation on her face.
The two of them locked eyes, Shen Qingxuan slightly blanked, but very quickly smiled faintly. Although he could not make a sound when he opened his mouth, his mouth clearly formed a greeting: Er Niang.
“Xiao Xuan.” Although young, the lady was still poised, and relaxed her expression as well. She crossed the threshold and came inside. “You feel better now?”
Shen Qingxuan nodded his head.
“Ever since you were bitten by a venomous snake, the whole family has been worried sick.” The woman leaned down to sit in the chair that was to the side, expression tender, and stroked his face not without some sorrow, “Jiejie was praying for you in the family Buddhist hall. When she heard you recovered, she went back to fulfill her vows. She could not make it to see you today, so I only brought your didi here.”
Shen Qingxuan merely smiled, fetched the brush and ink at hand, and wrote on the paper: I have inconvenienced Er Niang with worry. Since didi also came, why not call him over to converse with me? How is my mother’s health?
The lady looked, and carefully replied: “The time was late, and your didi’s temperament is noisy, so I just told him to wait until tomorrow to keep you company. Jiejie is in good health. Just yesterday, she even went into the kitchen and cooked bamboo shoots for the family to try. Except, not sure who but, some mouthy servant told her about your snake bite accident, and she cried for two days. Luckily, you have great fortune and great blessings. Once jiejie found out you were alright, she went back to fulfill her vows at the shrine.”
Hearing this, Shen Qingxuan’s heart naturally found it difficult to bear. Only after being lost in thought for a while, did he pick up the brush and write some words, making idle talk with her.
The woman said, “The fierce animals and poisonous insects in these mountains are so impossible to guard against. You might as well return home with me. It would also save everyone at home from being concerned. Jiejie and I are womenfolk, and it is not proper for us to frequently leave home to visit you.”
Shen Qingxuan wrote: Although there are many fierce animals, they do not easily injure people. The servants take good care of me, this time was just a mishap. The climate here is just right, even the physician says that my body needs quiet rest to recuperate. Although returning home is wonderful, in the end, it is unequal to the quiet calm of the mountains.
Seeing this, the woman sighed softly, and thought of yet another thing. She hurriedly said, “Before coming, jiejie told me to ask you, do you have any girls you secretly admire?”
Shen Qingxuan was stunned for a moment, and promptly wrote: I understand my mother’s wishes, but I am afraid my body would be unable to bear the responsibility since my health is at this point. Even if there are good, unmarried girls willing to match with me, I would only let them down. The responsibility of carrying on the incense inheritance would be better taught to didi so he can assume these responsibilities in my stead.
While looking at the still wet words, the woman sighed again, “Even if you did not say, everyone at home understands. It’s just, you are such a good kid. Coming to this world for a turn, not to mention, suffering many sorrows, and now, to not even leave behind an heir...Even though I am not your mother, yet I also…” Before she finished speaking, the rims of her eyes had reddened completely. At once, she lowered her head, her voice choking with sobs.
Shen Qingxuan also stayed silent, and stared straight at the woman’s trembling head. Without knowing what he thought of, his eyes turned deep and unmeasurable, his thoughts appearing to be full of twists and turns.
In an instant, however, he had already returned to normal, and raised his brush to write again: Er Niang does not need to be sorrowful. My life ought to be like this. Perhaps I did too much evil in my previous life, and I am repaying it in this life. Except, as the eldest son, I cannot even contribute meager efforts for my country and for my family. What a shame.
Writing up to this point, his strokes took a turn, and he changed the subject, continuing on: Didi just became an adult. Although he is bright, he lacks experience. Recently, I heard he intends to join the court as an official; the rises and falls of officialdom are unpredictable. He still needs Er Niang by his side to give advice.
Since the topic involved her own son, the woman held back her tears as expected. She softly said, “I am a mere woman, so what could I understand of anything? You, however, are well-read. If you are able to help your didi, then that would be perfect.”
Shen Qingxuan: Er Niang need not be modest. Didi is exceedingly intelligent, but when he runs into problems, he lacks tact. With Er Niang at his side to assist, in addition to having Father to organize, then it should not be hard for him to rise quickly in rank.
“You always provide me with comfort.” The woman put down the paper, slightly showing a smile.
Shen Qingxuan also smiled, and started to write again: However, didi is still young, and yet he has to take up an elder brother’s duties: filial duty to his parents and loyal duty to his country. This is quite tough for him.
Shaking her head, the woman said, “You two are brothers, this is within his responsibilities, do not speak so distantly.”
After they spoke a bit more, Shen Qingxuan’s face showed weariness, and the woman promptly urged him to take care of himself before finally leaving.
After she left, Shen Qingxuan sat alone in his chair for a long time. His gaze lingered over the white papers covered with writing. No one knows what he recalled, but his face dimly showed a helpless smile that was brimming with ridicule. Only after a moment did he lift his hands to tidy the papers. He rang the bell to call in the maidservant who fetched the metal basin, and in a blaze of fire, turned the ink-infused pages into ashes.
At this point, it was late into the evening, and the bustle of the outer hall had settled down. Shen Qingxuan told a servant to open the window. He tightly wrapped the fox fur coat around himself as he leaned in the chair looking at the darkness outside the window. This night, the moon and the stars were all thin. Occasionally, there was the brush of mountain wind, which raised and lowered the wisps of hair on his forehead, over and over again.
After another long moment, Shen Qingxuan suddenly stirred, took out his hand from the cylindrical warmer
Tumblr media
, wheeled the wheelchair to the table, and once again spread the paper and ink, writing: You have come.
He pushed the piece of paper to the middle of the table for the person to read. The air was peaceful.
Shen Qingxuan only smiled and did not speak, waiting quietly.
After a moment of stillness, the room he was sitting alone in had an extraordinary sight.
One could only see the paper on the table had moved by itself, without a breeze. The brush that was set on the ink slab
Tumblr media
also stood by itself. Dipped in ink, the brush moved onto the paper with a slight pause, and then the dense ink gradually carved out words on the paper. The handwriting was refined, and seemed to be answering Shen Qingxuan’s question, writing: How did you know?
Shen Qingxuan, was still smiling, even winking in a teasing and suspenseful manner, to the empty air.
The air, just like that day, was suddenly entangled with the delicate scent of flora. The smell was like the forest after the rains; it had a cool freshness.
On the dizzying day that he vomited foul blood from his body, while he was surrounded by a rotten stench, this smell appeared at his side like a sudden light in the dark, profoundly branding itself onto Shen Qingxuan’s heart.
He was unable to forget for his entire life.
Shen Qingxuan suddenly sniffed his nose, and then with some surprise he lifted his brush to write: You went to the hot spring on the mountain peak?
The man still did not show himself, but took another brush from the brush stand, and right next to his question he wrote a Yes.
His original confusion was naturally answered by Shen Qingxuan’s question. The distinctive sulfur smell of the hot springs was the reasoning behind Shen Qingxuan’s question. He also found out how Shen Qingxuan easily knew of his arrival.
Yi Mo thought, His sense of smell is like that of a wild animal.
However, no one continued this topic, and turned to converse about other things instead.
Although Shen Qingxuan was indebted to his mercy for allowing him to keep his life, internally however, he constantly remembered that he was a snake yao, and not of his kind. He was not unguarded.
Yet, who knew yao were similar to humans, and had names and surnames, not to mention, enjoyed the hot springs. He was even here using brush and paper to converse with him for a double-hour.
Even though his words were concise and to the point, he still possessed patience unparalleled by ordinary people.
For remarkably powerful yao like him, it was not like there were not more direct modes of speaking; Shen Qingxuan had already experienced it before. However, this snake had laid that method aside.
After he lost the ability to speak, Shen Qingxuan would still frequently interact with others. But there was no one who was like this: willing to patiently use brush and paper, and little by little, write for him to hear. A double-hour of time is not at all lengthy, merely a speck of sand in a person’a lifetime. Never mind that it allowed his heart’s defenses to crumble, he had even felt a spark of subtle intimacy.
Taking the handwriting-sprinkled piece of paper and putting it to the side, Shen Qingxuan wore a smile on his face. He dipped into the prepared ink and continued to chat with Yi Mo on the newly spread white paper: If I help you successfully survive the trial, will there be a gift given in return?
Appearing very quickly next to the clear and neat handwriting was a line of refined writing, concise as usual: I will grant you recovery to be just like an ordinary person.
Shen Qingxuan’s wrist trembled, and the brush tip filled up with ink roughly slashed across the snow white paper.

Prince of Tennis (2019) meme
I was tagged by @hardworkingprocrastinator aka @rupru-russiaxprussia whom I do believe I ranted with about the Imperial Pair ship, and the unexpected potential of Si Yang x Qi Ying… so thanking you kindly for another excuse to rave about ChinaPuri… sooo uhhh time for some fun times!!
Tagging: I have 0 idea who to tag because we a smaller fandom
Warning: I have not watched or read the original manga/anime soooooo I’m in an even smaller subset of the fandom babeyyyy!!! It has also been a couple months since I watched the show, so there is a strong chance I’ll have forgotten names and situations, and just general thoughts I have... BUT WHATEVER time to rant to the thirteen people who’ve watched ChinaPuri!!!
Questions:
1. Favorite character(s)? 2. Favorite school team(s)? 3. Favorite coach(es)? 4. Favorite supporting cast member(s)? (characters who aren’t regulars, aren’t on tennis teams etc.) 5. Favorite original character(s) in the adaptation? 6. Who do you think enacted their role best? 7. Favorite singles match? 8. Favorite doubles match? 9. Favorite story arc? 10. Most amusing tenipuri scene(s)/moment(s)/running joke(s)? 11. What did you like most about the adaptation? 12. What do you think the adaptation could have improved on? 13. Any other thoughts you want to share?
Answers: THIS ISH GETS LONGGGGG SO CUT OFF NOW
1. Favorite character(s)?
MU SI YANG BABEYYYYY!!! I already love a stoic glasses boi, but Mu Si Yang (again not TeniPuri Tezuka, just ChinaPuri Si Yang) may be one of my favourite takes on the stoic glasses boi… like I don’t often enjoy live action versions of anime, especially because the acting is never the best (and granted this one too, had some okay performances) but the guy who plays Mu Si Yang melted my heart… he was the stony-faced serious captain, who could deliver a subtle joke that left you snickering… but he was also the determined, earnest, crazy talented leader with his own hidden struggles who just wanted to take his team and friends as far as they go into competition… which is an essential part of any good sports drama… and he captured it so perfectly… and I love him.. he’s so beautiful too… I would fall in love with him in a heartbeat, and I don’t often say that about characters (like I love them but never in love ya dig?)
Zhou Zhi was a close favourite…basically I just love the two genius senpais…
2. Favorite school team(s)?
Oh god… Yu Feng maybe? We spend the most time with them, they have the most screen time of all the other teams…we have a whole training arc where they’re continuously winning against the struggling to evolve Yu Qing…very reminiscent of the Karasuno-Nekoma rivalry in that they help each other get better… I would’ve loved to see the rivalry/camaraderie develop even more so that when Si Yang leaves, the relief at having this network of tennis friends would’ve been that much more powerful…
Also I really enjoy Xu Ziping’s hustle… I love the story of Yu Feng…they had a shitty coach and had to make a deal to keep winning in order to even remain an official team… and when Yu Qing faced Yu Feng, I really couldn’t tell who I wanted to root for because I knew there was real weight behind every loss for Yu Feng…
After that, maybe No. 6… they’re so chill, they’re not straining for each win and just enjoying their time on the court…and the Old Coach dude was a great character to introduce...
3. Favorite coach(es)?
Maybe No. 6’s coach… I legit can’t remember his name but he oozes skill and experience without all the stress of younger coaches who bend over backwards for success… and while, again, the circumstances surrounding his appearance was a bit waffle-y in execution (which is about par for live action adaptations), I love that he serves as a sage outsider who can assess in three seconds what kind of player Lu Xia is, and what he needs to do to improve… I love me a good wise character who still knows how to inspire people in a fun way but you never, for a second, doubt that what they’re saying is legit advice, even if their mannerisms are goofy…
4. Favorite supporting cast member(s)? (characters who aren’t regulars, aren’t on tennis teams etc.)
Oh I mean…Stretcher Bros for life amirite? They were great…they were just hanging out, trying out.. Huang Jing is kinda jerk-ish, but he’s the starting antagonist who turns out to have a pure heart and a genuine love of the sport (kinda like Tsukishima Kei from Haikyuu!! or the GoMs from Kuroko no Basuke)… and Xiu Wen is such a soft boi who wants to shower in peace without girls being in the locker room…
Put these two besties together forever…and I just love how cuddly they are with each other…no hesitation to hold hands or hug…it’s gooood
5. Favorite original character(s) in the adaptation?
Um…idk who’s an original character??? Again never watched the original anime/read the manga!
SO IMMA CHANGE THIS TO FAVOURITE SHIP!
5.5. Favourite ship? (Get ready my friendsss issa long one)
Si Yang x Qi Ying my friendssss… a super unexpected pairing that came outta nowhere!!! Because the trailer clearly shows (or maybe it doesn’t and I forgot) that Lu Xia and Qi Ying are gonna be THE THING but then we get hit with the surprise senpai-kouhai/team manager ship and I’m like uhhh were you planning this or am I reading into it too much???
Like y’all they were flirting right in the beginning… that whole bit where she stands outside the change rooms and Si Yang confronts her, and she begs him to add Lu Xia to the team (even tho he already did) and he was weirdly teasing her about the roster when he had no reason to, and she was kinda bantering back with him and she fully called him out later on… i was like, umm this is a vibe
They just kept getting thrown together in weird ways…aside from Lu Xia, she’s probably had the most interactions with Si Yang of all the other team members… she’s the only one he calls Xiao~ like the boys in the tennis club have their nicknames like Dachi, Ah Mu, Ah Yan, but only Qi Ying is Xiao Ying!!  he’s not a nickname guy… and maybe if it were a girl/cheerleader thing, you’d think he’d call Peng Xiang, Xiao Xiang BUT NO… only Qi Ying gets called Xiao Ying!!!
AND ANOTHER THING: other than Lu Xia, he’s the only one concerned for Qi Yang, despite what he says, when she gets caught in the rain and gets sick… he fully visits her in her room, and receives the call about her health after they send her to the hospital… he says everyones worried BUT YO they’re straight up just bored and end up having a pillow fight…sooooo can’t be that worried…
AND ONE MORE THING: Qi Ying, I get she’s this weird mascot/team manager figure on their team (even tho she’s meant to be a cheerleader but they never invite Peng Xiang to any of their team dinners or their training camp) BUT WHEN SI YANG RETURNS HOME, THEY SEND IN QI YING TO GREET HIM and they have this whole charming convo where she teases him...and they were chatting as if they always had this banter going on but they’d only talked like 3 or 4 times on screen before then, so there’s this whole relationship she has with the tennis team (not just Lu Xia) that is implied but we don’t really see it! And when she teasingly calls him Captain Si Yang after he returns to China, he had the softest smileeee!!! HE TOTALLY DOES HAVE A SOFT SPOT FOR HER!! He didn’t want her to think he wasn’t happy to see her... and then she leads him to their surprise party in the club room and he just keeps saying Xiao Ying…  like damn you keep trying to establish the Lu Xia x Qi Ying ship (and it is a decently strong ship) but Si Yang x Qi Ying is soooo good!
After this Rival Pair, and then Golden Pair - our resident married couple
(POST Here: all the gay faves they didn’t even try to hide)
(POST Here: almost confirmed ships by the end)
6. Who do you think enacted their role best?
I…I think this is obvious… NEXT
Jk… other than Si Yang, I really enjoyed the guy who plays Lu Xia - Peng Yu Chang… he played the typical “stoic, super talented/genius sports idiot” type prolific in sports anime (like Furuya from Daiya no A, Kageyama from Haikyuu!!, Midorima from KnB)… but he was never too stuck in his head, and he was never mean… too often there’ll be a moment where this type of character is played too seriously, gets stuck in their own head, and lashes out at anyone they deem getting in their way, especially when they feel they’re stuck in a rut… which Lu Xia is in, for essentially the entirety of the show, in one form or another…
But PYC played Lu Xia as this mildly cocky, but still incredibly enthusiastic young genius who is looking for the next big challenge so as to further himself, but is so obsessed with this one opponent (his dad), that he can’t see the bigger picture and realise his entire way of playing is a mirror of the very opponent he’s trying to overcome… but even at the height of his stagnation, he’s never mean to Qi Ying, who tries her best to support and encourage him… while he does distance himself from the team, it’s not an active dismissal of their assistance or support… he can play a straight faced comic when embarrassed/discombobulated (like Si Yang when faced with Yan Juice), but also always participates in most of the weird antics his team is up to… and it never feels OOC and thats clearly a result of Peng Yu Chang’s subtle acting…
ALSO PENG YU CHANG IS IN OUR SHINING DAYS, A SUPER UNDERRATED CHINESE FILM THAT HAS SO MUCH POTENTIAL TO BE ADAPTED INTO LIKE, A ONE SEASON SHOW AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU WATCH IT
7. Favorite singles match?
Oh pfft… please… PLEASE IS THERE EVEN A QUESTION it was arguably the best match of the whole show, it was what we were all waiting for, a super tension filled, super hyped up match because it features my favourite character, who has simultaneously been promoted as THE BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM but also super injured and avoiding over-exertion… MU SI YANG…against his personal rival, whom had never tasted defeat before, and subsequently trained like crazy, throwing all of the money at professional players, FOR A YEAR, in order to be ready to face him… JI JING WU
That’s right baby, its the Imperial Pair Match (I do hope I’m using all these nicknames correctly..I just tried to pick them up from the anime/manga to save time writing out their names XD)…
This match is everything you ever want in a match…it’s a gritty, no-holds-barred, all-out, clash-of-titans-style face-off between probably the two most talented players in that whole (province? Prefecture? Idk China regional names) BUT YEAH THESE TWO ARE CLEARLY TOP TIER PLAYERS WHO FINALLY GO HEAD TO HEAD… it’s a year in the making, Ji Jing Wu is in peak physical condition, but Si Yang is not…and yet we see Si Yang powering through the literal agony of an arm injury that threatens complete destruction of not only his tennis career, but his general usage of that arm… and for glory and to bring his team to the national stage, Si Yang lays it all on the line… and he still gives Ji Jing Wu a run for his goddamn money… he matches him hit for hit, and at one point he was even WINNING…and had it not been for his arm, I swear up and down that he would’ve beaten Jingwu…
BUT THAT’S NOT EVEN THE BEST PART… i mean, all sports anime and just shounen anime in general have those moments where the characters are down and out and summoning the power of friendship and determination to their side to go above and beyond the physical limitations of their bodies… NO THE ACTUAL BEST PART WAS JI JINGWU’S RESPONSE TO THE WHOLE SITUATION
The goddamn respect he gave Si Yang.. this is his rival, the only person he’s ever viewed as equal and even superior to his own skills (at least as far as people the same age as him go)… Jingwu wants to beat him so bad… and he’s heard the rumours about Si Yang’s injury, and he even sees for himself how bad the injury is… but as a skilled player who recognises skill himself, he does not do Si Yang the disrespect of going easy on him… what kind of arrogant prick has that kind of nerve to give less than their best to someone who is giving them 120% effort… no, Ji Jingwu doesn’t hesitate to hit back full power, even as he’s yelling at Si Yang to stop before his arm is utterly destroyed… because the last thing any person of talent would want, is to see another person lose such an incredible gift… but even worse than that, have that person realise someone was going easy on them... it was so goddamn beautiful… and when Jingwu grips Si Yang’s hand and raises it high because he and everyone there knows who the real winner of that match is…they all know that they just witnessed something incredible, and he wants everyone in the stands to not only acknowledge it… but remember it…
And then he proceeds to fund Si Yang’s surgery, his flight, his meals, his rehabilitation, AS WELL AS take care of his team… and if that isn’t love, idk what is… like they don’t even disguise the hard core DEDICATION AND LOVE... Jingwu has obsessed over Si Yang for a year and it goddamn shows
Honourable Mention: I really enjoyed Zhou Zi versus the demon child whose eyes go red…we finally get to see Zhou Zi stretch his legs and push himself and I LOVED THAT… like he’s actually trying his best and that’s dope… also the match against the captain of the team his little brother his on… he basically led this cocky motherfucker by the nose for 5 games, pretends to be losing, and then destroys him in the following 7…
OH AND I GOTTA SHOUT OUT MY OTHER GLASSES BOI YAN ZHIMING VERSUS HIS BEST GUY FRIEND FROM YOUTH… that was a beautiful evolution of Ah Yan transcending but also evolving his data tennis against his childhood friend and it feels good ya know?
8. Favorite doubles match?
Oh pfft anything with the Rival Pair… they bicker like cat and dog, but then you put them on the court together, and suddenly their chemistry is through the roof… also Baiyang and Qiao Chen are a stronger couple than Qiao Chen and Yu Xing Zi and that’s the damn tea
(Same two posts for why that tea)
9. Favorite story arc?
Oh man… ummm training arc with Yu Feng was fun but it was definitely beaten out by the “village raises a child” arc when Si Yang leaves, so literally all their previous opponents step up to encourage, train, or otherwise intimidate Yu Qing into giving it their all, improving, and ultimately winning the finals… plus this arc gave so much depth to the network of teams who all have the same aspirations, in the end, and want to push forward the people who beat them to not let their loss be in vain…and that’s pure…
10. Most amusing tenipuri scene(s)/moment(s)/running joke(s)?
Yan Juice... especially the first time NEXT
Honourable Mentions: When Lu Xia gets stood up by Xinglong Lu Xia running interference on Qi Ying’s admirer in the final ep When Zhou Bros run into Lu Xia in the dressing rooms Stretcher Bros trying to become Painter Bros
11. What did you like most about the adaptation?
It captured the essence of a good sports anime: power of friendship, ridiculous action sequences of outrageous moves that would never be allowed in real life, determination and guts is all you need to succeed, that all-or-nothing mentality of high schoolers who suddenly have tunnel vision and no future thinking whatsoever, and decide to risk life and limb for one match… plus it kept a charming and comedic beat running throughout, really endeared you to the characters, and their struggles... AND NO ONE WAS MEAN... well I mean Ya Jiuxin was an angry bitter jerk for a hot second, but he ended up being endeared towards the lil fluffball kouhai of his, and we all know he loves Xinglong in his heart of hearts... other characters like Jingwu, or demon child, or Zhou Yu’s captain were cocky or arrogant, but they were never mean to each other, and respected each other’s game play even if they were defeated.. a couple were poor losers, but they didn’t throw a fit or try to get revenge or anything like that... everyone, in general, had some decency to them, and in fact all of Yu Qing was a super nice...sometimes too nice and self-deprecating that you wanted to smack them...
12. What do you think the adaptation could have improved on?
This is mostly just a consequence of live action adaptations of sports anime where they have to condense a whole lot of story that is already condensed from the manga into a palatable show that anyone, not necessarily pre-existing fans of the original source, can enjoy… the story around the characters seemed waffle-y and disjointed… sometimes things would happen but wouldn’t connect smoothly to the next thing that happens… there was this whole implied close relationship between Qi Ying and the team that just was never shown… I would’ve preferred they made her an official manager, so it would make sense that she’d be so close to the team, when for whatever reason, Peng Xiang wasn’t…even tho they’re both cheer captains…
The match sequences were cut down a little too much (tho I get why)… I would have loved that final training arc to be extended, to fully flesh out how discombobulated Yu Qing was when Si Yang had to leave, and how forcefully the other teams picked them up and got them better… so to develop the dynamic between the teams before this would’ve been good, but obviously they can only got the core actors of each team at a time… hence that barbecue scene… but if they’d pulled off something like the Haikyuu!! Tokyo training arc, or even something like in KnB where the teams were thrown together in wacky hijinks or impromptu match situations to develop their camaraderie (and they sorta tried to but nothing really came of the interactions), it would’ve made the final training arc THAT MUCH MORE heartwarming and I would have cried..
13. Any other thoughts you want to share?
I’ve already said enough. The end.

ZOS’ short stories 21
Title: Dungeons and Dragonslayer (RWBY)
(Note: This is an AU where Yang Xiao Long is secretly a dragon that can transform into a human via polymorphism)
————————————————————
Jaune: Gah! *gets knocked away onto the ground, accidentally letting go of his weaponry during the knockback*
Cardin: Heh. You’ve lost, Jaunie-boy. You’ve tried to foolishly take on my army alone and look where that got ya.
*Cardin’s army looks at Jaune with a sadistic smirk*
Jaune: I was just trying to rescue the faunus that you and your stupid army kept kidnapping!
Cardin: Now why would you rescue the faunus we kept capturing? They’re freaks...they’re all nothing but freaks...and should be treated more like animals and slaves rather than genuine-
Jaune (glaring daggers): Shut up!
Cardin: Oh, but it’s true! Ahahaha!
Jaune: You piece of...! I’m gonna- *runs up to Cardin head-first and attempts to punch him, only to whiff as Cardin pins him to the ground* Agh!
Cardin: Once a faliure, always a failure...remember that when you die, Jaunie-
*BOOM!*
*Suddenly. a giant golden dragon with red eyes appears right behind Cardin*
Goon 1 (scared): C-C-Cardin!
Goon 2 (scared): I-I-Is that a...?
Goon 3 (scared as well): DRAGON!!!
*The dragon lets out a loud roar, then its mouth starts to generate fire*
Cardin: Well, what are you idiots waiting for?! Kill-
*The dragon breaths out a large wave of fire at Cardin’s army, reducing everybody into a pile of ashes*
Cardin (terrified): Oh...crap...O-Oh, mighty dragon! Please, spare my life! If you spare my life, and kill this one instead, *picks up Jaune and holds him in front of it* I will grant you anything you want!
*The dragon looks down at the two with a glare, then grabs Jaune with its giant claw*
Jaune: Hrk!
Cardin: Haha- Ghh! *Gets grabbed as well with the other claw, the dragon looks at him with a glare*
Dragon (in a gruff, female voice): You. Winchester, was it?
Cardin (struggling to get out): Y-Yes!
Dragon (leaning her face closer): Killing you instantly, right here, right now, seems to easy as a punishment for you, Winchester...I’ve got something better for you.
Cardin (terrified): A-And what would that be?
*The Dragon moves her arm behind her, still holding Cardin*
Cardin: H-Huh?
Dragon: HAVE A NICE RIDE!!! *Moves her arm forward, tossing Cardin into the distance until he disappears, Team Rocket-style*
Cardin: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa- *ding!*
Jaune: Woah...that was...
Dragon (turns to Jaune): As for you...
Jaune (accepting defeat): *sigh* ...So this is how I die, huh? Completely stripped of my weaponry and about to die in the claws of a giant, golden dragon. If only I got to live a little longer to help Team RWBY and my own Team build a bright future between the faunus and humans...
Dragon (chuckling, eyes turn lilac): Who said you were gonna die, vomit boy?
Jaune (shocked): V-Vomit boy? Did you just call me- *Realization* Wait a minute! Are you...?!
*The dragon gently puts Jaune down, letting him go, then turns into a bright, white color and transforms into a human, somebody that Jaune recognizes*
Yang (running up to him): Hiya, Jaune!
Jaune: Y-Yang?! You’re a dragon?!
Yang (cleaning the dust off of him): Yup! I’m secretly a dragon! I can transform between these two forms via polymorphism! Ain’t it awesome?
Jaune (still in awe): That...that is pretty awesome! I-I’m at a complete loss for words!
Yang: Heh. You’re not the first one who was surprised by my secret transformation...
Jaune: Now I owe you a life debt! Is there anything I can do for you?
Yang: Other than requesting for your team’s assistance to aid my team to rescue those captured faunus from Cardin’s empire, there’s really nothing I need to ask of you...
Jaune: I still kinda want to repay you...
Yang (pondering): Hmm...wanna go for a ride on my back in dragon form?
Jaune: As much as I’d love to, I’m afraid I can’t. Motion sickness, remember? I don’t wanna throw up on your beautiful, golden scales.
Yang: Hm. That’s true. Ooh! Better yet... *leans in closer to Jaune’s ear, in a sultry tone of voice* Why don’t I ride you?
Jaune (blushing): R-Ride me?
Yang (patting his back): Ahahaha! I’m just joking with you, Vomit Boy!
Jaune (still blushing): O-Oh! Were you now?
Yang (giggling): Hehehe...you’re so much fun to play with...
Jaune: Thank...you?
Yang: But in all seriousness... *gives him the bedroom eyes* Wanna do it? At my place? Instead of a dirty, dusty battlefield? I’ve had my eyes on you for quite some time, ladykiller.
*Jaune starts speaking incoherently*
Yang: Kidding again! Ahahaha!
Jaune: Can you please?
Yang: But I can’t help it! You’re just so much fun to mess with!
Jaune: Hmph. One day, you’re gonna regret constantly teasing me.
Yang: I await that day patiently, ladykiller. *giggles, then gives him a kiss on the cheek, causing Jaune to blush once more*
