── 𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐎𝐅 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 : hinata shoyo.
content: fem!reader. public sεx in the back booth of a cafe. dirty thoughts, teasing, fingering, a little overstimulation, shoyo is a liiittle mean but he's just so eager to have you!! mentioned pussy eating at the end.
— . 。˚ ♡ you just can't wait to have shoyo's fingers in you. and neither can he.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
one of the first things you notice about hinata when you meet up with him after his years away in brazil, is that his hands are big.
he'd already been growing taller and filling out when he left — but that was nearly three years ago, and seeing him for the first time after so long felt like a dream — because despite looking the same, he also looked just that different. it wasn't just his hands, really — he was big.
his neck was thicker, the expanse between his shoulder and neck offering much more space for your arms than it used to, as you wrapped them around his neck in a hug. his arms, his chest, his stomach, as they press against yours in the embrace, they feel bigger, more muscular than you remembered.
but what you notice the most, what would be a subtle change compared to everything else — is that his hands are so big. maybe because you hadn't seen his hands properly in any of the pictures he'd sent you, but it was the most surprising change about him.
his fingers that just used to be long and lithe, are now thicker — knuckles tough and edges calloused, the backs of them rosy and tanned and the palms hard and smooth, pink at the rounder points.
and as he holds your hands in his, gives you a smile that pours love and longing and happiness and tender adoration into you as he tells you, “hi, baby. i missed you.” — all you can think about is that you want your pussy stuffed with those fingers of his.
and eventually — because he is after all, your beloved shoyo that would do anything for you — you tell him.
hand in hand, walking the distance from your place to the café you used to frequent together, you tell him that his hands are so nice.
his fingers are so thick (“look! see how big they are compared to mine?”) and then while you're talking to each other over cups of coffee, you finally tell him — albeit slyly and mostly as a tease, you admit that you want his fingers in your cunt.
what you don't expect is for him to immediately oblige.
you're sitting together at the very last booth of the small, cozy little cafe, away from all the windows and concealed from clear view — and you'd thought it'd be cute to fluster him with a dirty little comment, and get him hooked for when you both get home.
but when you tell him, “they'd feel so nice curling deep into my pussy, don't you think?” hinata stares at you for only a few seconds — before he has you pressed against the back of the booth, one legged hooked over his knees and the other dangling over the edge of the seat as he forces your legs open.
“mhm,” he giggles at your wide eyed, stunned expression, wrapping a muscled arm around you and adjusting your position so effortlessly, as his other hand slides past the waistband of your skirt to palm at your clothed cunt. “let's see how it feels, then. oh — pretty pussy's wet already, huh? missed me much?”
you're too dazed by the contact and the delicious feel of his touch on your clit to form words and tell him yes, yes yes you missed him so fucking much, more than he knows — but you think you missed him more than even you know.
his eyes are brighter than you remember as well, you see as you blink up to meet his gaze—
his body language, his confidence, it's so different compared to how he was before.
you'd only gotten together in your third year of highschool, and really you'd only fucked once before he left for brazil — but you'd loved him long enough to know.
this isn't the same hinata that you kissed good-bye at that train station years ago.
correction: he is the same — but he's also more.
you stare, stars in your eyes — and he gives you a handsome, rogueish grin as he slips two digits under your panties and into the slick mess of your hole, like he knows every single thing he's doing to you right now.
to your body, to your mind, to your soul.
it's overwhelming enough, to have the love of your life return home to you after more than two years of being so, so far away from you.
overwhelming enough to see that he has changed so very much, to see that suddenly the sunny, sweet boy you'd fallen in love with has become a fire, a hot searing flame that's ready to sweep you off your feet and singe you, burn you with his kisses and his touch.
but right now, you can't even think clearly about it all — because fuck, fuck, fuck, he's sliding his fingers into you, and it feels even better than you thought it would.
“sh—shoyo,” you whimper, cheek pressed to his chest as he shields your body with his, just in case. “wait, wait — didn't mean right now, i—”
“hush,” he hums into your ear, thumb gliding up to find your clit, and when he presses into the sensitive bud, you can only obey and hush — pressing your lips shut tight to prevent the gasp of pleasure that builds in your throat from getting away.
the café had been pretty quiet and peaceful when you'd both walked inside, and even as you ordered from the counter and brought your trays to the back booth — but suddenly, you're so afraid that people might come and see. afraid that a waiter might come over and see.
“sho—” you try, but he shushes you again, and you feel so hot, it's all so sudden you can't think.
“couldn't wait, sunshine, 'm sorry.” he mumbles into your hair, pulling you even closer, and you feel a little cramped as he tugs your legs even further apart, fingers sliding knuckle-deep into you. “was thinking things the whole time, you're so gorgeous now, can't wait when you're so hot.”
“i—” you whimper again, grabbing his shirt and curling it in your fist. “me too, shoyo, me too.” there's an impatience in the both of you that was hardly satiable when kept apart from eachother, but now, with the two of you like this, there's no way to keep it at bay.
the stretch of his fingers in your cunt is impossible. so much compared to your own fingers, so hot and hungry compared to the toys you use (ones he'd bought and sent home to you during his time in brazil).
he fucks his digits into you like he's been dying to do this to you, like he's desperate to hear those pretty sounds you make in his ear again, like he's been thirsting to make you cum like this forever.
you're going to hit your orgasm so quick, you can already feel it.
you're going to cum slumped in the back booth of this little café, that you'd visited so long ago on your first date with hinata. this little café where you'd first kissed him. this little café where you'd had a valentine's day brunch with him, just two months before he left.
“shoyo,” you can't help the moan that slips out, pussy only clenching around harder his digits when you see the way his eyes cloud with lust upon hearing your voice. “shoyo, shoyo — gonna cum.”
you hope nobody hears you — and you hope that if they did, they'll stay the fuck away and mind their own business, and let hinata take care of you.
you need it. he's so warm, so hot, and he's fucking you so good with just his fingers — thumb rolling your clit just fucking right while he curls his fingers into your velvet walls, giggling under his breath when your pussy squelches messily each time.
“that's right, baby,” he coos, kissing your hair. “cum for me. nice and hard, mkay? else we might hafta try again.”
his voice cracks so well at just the right moment as he says it — and you don't know if it's the zap of need that courses through you at the sound of his voice breaking, or if it's just the bliss he's giving you with his fingers that makes you cum instantly, but you do.
your pussy wraps around his fingers so tight — your own hand flying up to clamp over your mouth and muffle your cry, as your body finally unfreezes and you crash into your high.
knees knocking together and squeezing hinata's arm between your legs, you fall lax against the leather seating of the booth — cushioned by his body because he still has his other arm secured around you — and you cum. “fuck, shoyo.”
“that's good,” hinata encourages, his whisper hot in the shell of your ear. “fuck, so messy. so messy, baby, how do we clean you up?”
you can't help it — and he's making it worse, curling his fingers in, knuckles digging into your walls as he tries to go even deeper, never relieving the pressure he's out on your clit, god— “shoyo, fuck, fuck.” you’re afraid you might shatter into a million pieces right there on the damn seat. you haven’t had someone else touch you in a long time, and getting an orgasm ripped from you like this is almost too much. “sho—shoyo, please.”
“please, what?” he giggles, still unrelenting, like he’s missed having you like this, like he really can’t be a good boy and wait until you get back home before he eats you up and makes you his girl all over again, for the first time in years.
“not here,” you say breathlessly, gulping down the cry of pleasure that springs up your throat when he lets go of your clit for a moment, only to flick his thumb at the ravenous bud again. “not here, please. i can’t—”
“can’t what?” he asks, almost impatient. he bites at your ear, and you feel so fucking hot, so dizzy with pleasure, but you can’t. not in the back booth of a god damn café, where you could just be caught with MSbY’s newest outside hitter fitting his fingers into your starving little cunt.
you grab his wrist and tug, giving him the most serious look you can with all the stars in your eyes. “can’t be like this, shoyo. not here. please? wanna go home. want you in me. at home.”
his lips pull downwards into a disappointed pout, but he only presses his body closer to you, hot and heavy, his weight so new on you. “you promise t’ let me fuck you like this in your bed then?”
the fact that he can make you blush harder with a few words even as he’s got your pussy full of his fingers is astounding, really. but you feel your face heat up as you nod, telling him you promise. you need it more than him. you need him so, so fucking bad.
with a delighted laugh, shoyo pulls away, almost too quickly and you’re forced to stifle the needy whine you want to let out because you know he’ll be on you again in no time if you act like that. he pops his fingers into his mouth, sucking on your slick, eyes dulling with lust as he gets a taste of you. “let’s go, then. we can have this date later.”
“wh—what about our food?” you can’t even ask before he’s getting up and pulling you to your feet. he gives you a quick kiss, and your eyes widen when you taste yourself on him. god, it’s almost embarrassing.
“i’ll pay for it now, we’ll tell them we’re coming back in a bit.” he grins at you, taking you by the waist and pulling you up against him. “i can think of something else i’d like to eat right now.”
by the glint in his eyes and the lingering taste in your mouth, you know exactly what he means the instant he says it. and you can’t help but blush again. god, he’s such a fucking charmer. “mm, alright. let’s go then.”
“that’s my girl.”

ending 2 for tolerate it! this was my original idea for the ending!
I just wanted to clarify that I’m writing these two endings bc of the feedback I’ve received. The first ending is for those who wanted them to reconcile/make amends, and I wanted to give those readers some closure.
this ending is for those who want reader to be happy without him (which was my original idea lol). anyways I know a lot of people didn’t like ending 1 and that’s okay!! but here’s ending two, I hope you like it better :)
[ also, this takes place in between the time that reader leaves simon/price and the last line of part two! ]
part one here, part two here, ending 1 here
your friend graciously let you live with them for a few months while you got back on your feet.
you went to therapy. stopped crying whenever you thought of him or even his name. started taking care of yourself again.
you move out and find this cute little house. it’s small, cozy. you adore it, and your friend helps you move in.
you make it your own with colors and trinkets and pictures. there’s nothing in that house that serves as a reminder of your time with him. you’d gotten rid of all the pictures, all the gifts he’d bought you before things turned sour.
fuck him. he didn’t deserve to see your growth and your happiness. he didn’t deserve anything from you.
you get used to being on your own again. it’s nice. you don’t worry about a man who is halfway across the world. don’t worry about baking a cake for his return or setting up streamers. don’t worry about how damaged he’ll be when he walks through the door.
you’re happy. you love your job, your home, your friends. you treat yourself to coffee every wednesday afternoon, and that’s when you meet him.
you’ve ordered your coffee and are sitting at one of the cafe’s little tables, scrolling on your phone, when a man clears his throat.
you look up, and he’s got the kindest smile you’ve ever seen.
“hi,” he says, and you give a small smile as you click off your phone.
“um, hi?” you say, a little unsure of why he’s speaking to you.
“not to sound weird or anything,” he begins, and you give a small laugh.
“y’know, whenever someone says that, whatever they say next does tend to sound weird.”
he nods, that smile on his lips growing a smidge wider. “right. so, I guess this will be weird then, huh? but I’ve noticed you here every wednesday, and I just wanted to tell you you’re beautiful.”
you blush. you don’t think a man has ever been so straightforward with you, and although you do think it’s kind of weird, you try to just focus on the compliment.
but your guard is up. you don’t know him.
“oh, thank you. that’s sweet,” you reply, and he’s still looking down at you.
“can I sit?” he asks, which takes you by surprise.
“um, sure? I guess?” you say, and it sounds more like a question than a statement, but he’s sliding into the seat across from you.
he introduces himself, and you tell him your name. he says it’s pretty. you’re starting to think he’s coming on too strong.
but as the two of you begin to talk, you start to realize that’s just who he is. he’s a flirt, a flatterer, but it’s good natured.
it’s easy to talk to him. he keeps the conversation going, and he seems generally interested in what you have to say. it’s a stark difference from your last relationship.
but then he tells you he’s military, and your heart nearly stops.
“oh,” you say, a small frown on your lips.
“that an issue?” he says, and his tone is teasing. he doesn’t know— how could he? but your face says it all.
his brows furrow, and he gets serious for the first time since he’d sat across from you. he starts to reach for your hand, but decides against it. again, the two of you don’t know each other, and he’s aware of that.
“I don’t have a good track record with men in the military,” you tell him, trying to lighten the mood. he can tell something’s wrong, but he doesn’t push. he takes the bait, and you’re grateful. it makes you like him even more.
that’s why you end up talking until the place closes. the employees are practically shooing you out as you and the military man apologize profusely.
you’re on the sidewalk now, and he’s smiling at you. you find yourself smiling back.
“d’you mind if I get your number?” he asks.
as much as you enjoyed talking to him, you’re still unsure. you just recovered from everything that happened— are still recovering. you don’t want to rush into anything. so, you shake your head.
“if you’re serious,” you begin, looking up at him. “I’ll see you on another wednesday.”
he nods, a mischievous smile on his face. “im up to the challenge.”
you give a small laugh, then tell him goodnight. you turn and begin to walk towards your car, and you’re smiling like an idiot.
you don’t want to get you hopes up, but that little naive part of you— a part of you you’d thought was dead and gone— is making you. you try to stamp it back down.
next wednesday, you don’t see him, and you’re a little sad about it. you don’t see him the wednesday after that, either.
you don’t see him for a few months, actually. and after a few weeks, you’ve stopped thinking about him.
but then one wednesday, you’re sitting in that coffee shop, and there he is.
he’s wearing a short sleeve shirt, and you can see fresh cuts and scrapes along his arms. he asks if he can sit, and you oblige, gesturing to the seat across from you.
“sorry for disappearing on you,” he says, and you shake your head. he doesn’t owe you anything. you barely know each other.
“that day we talked, i ended up gettin’ deployed a few days later. didn’t have your number, so…” he trails off with a cheeky smile, and you grin as you roll your eyes.
“so im to blame, hm?” you say, and he nods.
“oh, absolutely.” he’s teasing, and you laugh.
“then let’s amend that.” you hand him your phone and he lights up. he taps his number in quickly before handing the phone back to you. you send him a quick ‘hi’ so your number will pop up in his phone.
“didn’t forget about you, though,” he says, and you blush. this man certainly has a way with words. “that’s why im here. glad to see you’re still a creature of habit.”
“is that a bad thing?” you ask, and he shakes his head.
“nah, I don’t think so.”
your phone chimes then. it’s one of your friends, asking you if you can come over. you type a quick reply and start to gather your things.
“leavin’ so soon?” he says, and you give a small nod.
“friend emergency.”
he nods. “understood. well, I’ll see you around then, yeah?” he smiling as he pushes himself out of his chair.
“you do have my number now,” you remind him. “we don’t have to wait on chance encounters.”
he hums in agreement. “that’s true, but I prefer face-to-face, y’know? especially since yours is so pretty.”
“you’re a flirt,” you tell him, but you’re blushing, and he chuckles.
“guilty.”
you bid him goodbye and walk towards the exit, your mind instantly shifting gears to your friend. you don’t think about the military man again until he texts you that night.
‘friend okay?’ he types.
‘all good.’ you respond.
he’s typing back for a good minute. the bubble disappears, then reappears.
‘if there are no more friend crises for the foreseeable future, and im not shipped off to fight bad guys, how about a proper date?’
you smile as you read the message.
‘sure.’ you respond, and he sends back a smiley face.
a first date turns into a second, then a third, then a fourth. they’re spread out over a year because of his job, but you don’t find yourself minding that much. he treats you so much differently than the last man did.
he eventually asks you to be his partner, and you say yes. of course you’re a little hesitant— things with your last military man started off good, too. but you feel like it’s different this time. he’s different.
you don’t know it, but every time he’s deployed, he talks his squad’s ear off about you. tells them you’re the most beautiful person he’d ever seen, and that you’re so funny. tells them he’s gonna ask you to move in with him.
but he never mentioned your name. maybe he forgot, or maybe he just didn’t want to share that piece of you with them.
“you never shut up about this lover of yours,” simon/price says one day while they’re eating in the mess hall. although they’re not in the same squad, they’re friends, and they happen to be on base at the same time. “no way they’re real.”
your man just grins and holds out his phone, showing off his lockscreen. it’s a picture of you with your head thrown back in laughter. he’d taken it on one of your dates.
simon/price’s face darkens almost imperceptibly before he masks it. that’s you. he hadn’t thought about you in ages, but he knows that’s you in that picture. now everything comes rushing back.
your lover doesn’t notice the other man’s expression shift. he doesn’t realize that the man across from him knows you.
you had told him more about the man who broke your heart, but you’d never mentioned his name. you didn’t want to risk him knowing him.
it’s a good thing you’d never mentioned the name, because if your lover knew, he’d punch him in the jaw.
the conversation eventually shifts away from you, and simon/price is grateful. your man is none the wiser.
when he gets back home, he asks you to move in. you tell him no at first. you’re still a little broken. he understands, and doesn’t hold it against you. he takes it in stride, and you’re grateful.
you don’t know how you got so lucky this time. you don’t know how this man, who was so understanding, so kind, so caring, had practically fallen into your lap. maybe it was karma from your last relationship.
the universe crushed you once, and to make up for it, they dropped this man into your life. whatever it was, you were thankful.
the second time he asks you to move in with him, you say yes. he helps you with everything, and the whole time he’s smiling like an idiot. even when you almost drop a shelf on his toe, or when you argue with him about where to hang a picture.
you two end the night eating take out on the couch and watching trashy tv. he decides right then that he’s going to marry you one day.
a few months after you move in, he tells you he wants you to meet his friends.
you’re nervous, but he reassures you it will all be fine. tells you that they’ll love you. so, you get yourself ready and then he’s helping you into his truck, and your leg is shaking the whole way to the bar.
he puts a comforting hand on your knee. gives you a dazzling smile.
“they’ll love you,” he tells you. you nod.
when you get to the crowded bar, he leads you by the hand inside. you’re towed along behind him, so you don’t see his friends until you’re standing right in front of the booth they occupy.
you scan their faces, and you don’t recognize any of them. you’re thankful— a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. he introduces you to them, and you fit in easily.
the night is going well until your man mentions simon/price’s name. he couldn’t know, you’d never told him. he was telling the story of how simon/price hadn’t believed him when he was talking about you.
the rest of his friends were laughing, but you were tense. he noticed immediately, shoulder nudging yours as he leaned down to whisper in your ear.
“you okay?” he murmured, and you nodded.
he could tell you were lying, but he didn’t push it. didn’t even bring it up again until the two of you were home.
“how do you know simon/price?” he asked you as you hung your coat up on the rack. you frowned as you turned to face him.
“he was the one I dated before you. the guy who broke my heart. the one I told you about, remember?”
your man goes silent. he’s looking at you, his fists clenched at his sides. he believes you. there’s not a doubt in his mind, even for a second, that you’re not telling the truth.
“I didn’t want to tell you his name,” you admit, taking a step towards him. “in case you knew him. didn’t want to make things complicated.”
he’s still silent, his eyes trained on you as you slowly approach. an expression you can’t name paints his face.
“I understand if you want to end things,” you tell him, and that gets him moving again. he’s shaking his head. “I don’t want to come between you and your friends.”
“fuck him,” he spits, and he reaches his arms out to you. you step into his embrace and take a shaky breath. “fuckin’ bastard. I showed him a picture of you, and he didn’t say anything. I was gonna invite him tonight, but he’s on assignment, and—” he inhales sharply as his hands rest on your back. “and now im gonna break his fucking jaw.”
you push yourself back, your eyes finding your lover’s. you shake your head. “it’s not worth it. besides, don’t make any enemies within your base. you’ve got enough of those already.”
you can tell he wants to argue, but he doesn’t. he nods after a moment. silence fills the room.
“we don’t run in the same circles, usually,” he tells you, his voice quiet. “known each other since enlistment. got assigned to different squads. kept running into each other, though. kept in touch.”
“you can still—” you begin, but he interrupts.
“no, fuck him. I can’t be his friend when he’s treated you like shit. fucker will be lucky if I don’t blacken his fuckin’ eye.”
you don’t say anything. you pull yourself back towards his chest, and he holds you tight.
you don’t say anything, but your heart swells. this man, the one in your arms, is everything that he wasn’t. he doesn’t tolerate you, he celebrates you. loves you unconditionally. communicates and compromises. doesn’t pull away.
that’s why, when he asks you to marry him a month later, you say yes without thinking. because you don’t need to think.
the ceremony is small. friends and family gather and celebrate the two of you. you laugh and dance and drink the night away with the love of your life by your side.
and you don’t think of the man that broke your heart anymore. don’t give him the time of day, because you’ve moved on to something far greater. you’ve moved on to what you deserve.
a few years down the road, when your husband has finally retired, you’re making your way down the road to meet him at the coffee shop that brought you together.
someone calls your name, and your blood runs cold. you know that voice, and although you haven’t thought about who it belongs to in years, you doubt you’ll ever truly forget it.
he’s calling your name from somewhere behind you. you don’t turn around.
instead, you pull open the door of the coffee shop, step inside, and smile when you see your husband sitting at the same table you’d met him at all those years ago.

author’s note:
ending 2 is finally here! while writing this, I originally pictured the reader getting with Gaz/johnny; however, I wasn’t sure how that would turn out.
how would they still work with simon/price after knowing everything? how would you go so long without hearing about/meeting gaz/johnny’s squad mates?
I didn’t know, and that’s why I scrapped the idea. You can still picture them, though! but I thought it best to have the love interest someone kinda detached from the 141.
anyways, hope you enjoyed :)

Never Let Me Go
Tumblr media
Captain John Price x f!Reader
Part 2 here
Summary: You worked at a coffeehouse, your life is filled with mundanity and you wouldn't change it for anything else. That is, until one crisp autumn morning, you meet the handsome Captain John Price and there’s an immediate, undoubted connection between the two of you.
WC: 3,352
Warnings: fluff, smut in other chapters, cheesy coffee shop au, inaccuracies, soft!price, barista!reader, some reader descriptions, slow romance, pet names, meet-cute.
A/N: Remember that Price series I mentioned? Here ya go!!! Each chapter will be the title of a song I feel is related to it or that I was listening to while writing it hehe so make sure to check that out ;) I'm planning for 6 chapters but there might be more. Smut will happen eventually, of course!
The song for Chapter 1 is I'm On Fire by Bruce Springsteen, but also the covers of it by Awolnation and Gus Dapperton.
Happy reading!!
Dawn was breaking through the clouds. The waking sun broke through grey clouds that poured a steady, incessant shower of rain; the contrast of the glimmering rays against the somber clouds painted a watercolor sky.
You walked down the cobblestone street, the heel of your shoes clinking with every stride as you walked into the coffeehouse at a speedy pace. It was the middle of autumn, the weather was tepid and chilly. You worked at Roasts & Poets, a hybrid of a cafe and a bookstore that your sweet aunt had left your favorite cousin, and she had been gracious enough to let you run it alongside her.
Every morning was the same, and you wouldn't change a thing about it. You arrived at the crack of dawn to open the cafe, you were alone until your cousin arrived much later; you had always been more diligent and work-oriented than her when it came to running the cafe. You went through the whole process of the opening shift: setting the chairs and tables, stocking the sugars and napkins, picking up your cousin's slack from yesterday's closing shift, and setting out the freshly baked pastries.
That's how you start your day every day. Your life was simple yet rewarding. Alone behind the counter, you took in the sight of the deserted shop, the smell of the books on their shelves collecting dust hitting your nostrils while sleep was still weighing down your eyes. The stillness and silence of the shop every morning made you content and warm.
About half an hour later, your cousin arrived. The energy in her contrasted your mellowness. The minute she walked through the door, the sound of her cheery greeting and of the edge of the door's swing knocking the bell atop it sparked you awake. You gave her a wide smile as she stormed in, the rays of sun being her spotlight.
"Morning, cuz," she beamed, you returned the greeting mid-yawn, followed by you letting out a loud sigh. She set her coat on the hooks next to the door beside yours -- you two had set those there as a cozy detail for your customers.
"I had the best night last night," she started, walking towards you behind the counter and tying an apron around her waist the same as you. "Remember that guy I told you about?"
"The Birmingham one?" you scoffed, remembering the drunken night when your cousin could not stop rambling about the bloke from Birmingham who stood her up.
"No," she rolled her eyes, "the hot one my friend set me up with!"
You vaguely recalled, giving her an affirmative nod as your eyes drifted up, trying to remember the details of her extensive, messy love life. The two of you had been close and very similar since you were kids, but what stood out between you was how much of a hopeless romantic she was. You were more reserved about it; even though you knew it sounded cliche, you had decided long ago that the right man for you would come to you one day. Your knight in shining armor, your prince charming, perhaps. So you'd rather wait passively for that moment rather than how your cousin approached men head-on.
You listened to her fawning over her most recent rendezvous with her new suitor, amused and enjoying her experience vicariously.
As the day progressed, you welcomed and attended more patrons. You and your cousin took turns between taking orders and ringing up anyone who purchased books. There were a few regulars who came in every morning for a quiet space to work in, and others who just liked to lounge and read a book they had purchased along with a coffee in the comfy sofas you and your cousin had picked out when setting up the shop -- you had lost count of how many years ago that had been.
When the shop was slowing down, you liked to prop your elbow on the counter, resting your chin on your hand as you people-watched. You loved the tranquility of it, thinking about each one's stories, reading them like books.
One of the regulars was a man who always came in a burgundy knitted sweater and sat down with his laptop and headphones. He was quiet and reserved but always left you gratuitous tips; you knew his order and routine like the back of your hand. Another one was an older lady who always wore something pink, no matter what the rest of her outfit consisted of or what the occasion was. She was kind as well, but when she was feeling chatty she would sit at the counter and talk your ear off; today was a quiet day for her as she sipped her chamomille and read her novellas.
As much as you enjoyed the peace of the shop, today was not a great day for silence for you. You hadn't gotten the best sleep last night, you had opted for binging the show you had been obsessing over and downed an entire bottle of wine by yourself. So, between your early start to the day and the light thumping of the headache you had medicated was making your eyes heavy with sleep. You couldn't wait for your shift to be over, maybe you would ask your cousin to let you lie down in the back.
The sound of the bell as the door swung open jolted you awake for the second time today. You stood upright, fixing your posture and glancing at the door to greet the incoming customer. Your eyes captured a man you hadn't seen before around the area. He was tall with a bearded face and had a burly physique, sporting a navy blue sweater and grey coat that matched the beanie he slid off his head. You gave him a welcoming smile, not paying him much mind because of the sleep that still crept into your eyes. He returned the gesture as he made his way across the store, disappearing from your vision.
You let out a sigh as you rubbed your knuckles into your lids. You desperately need a coffee if you want to get through the day, you thought, turning on your heels to pull yourself two shots of espresso. You poured the shots into a cup of milk you had frothed, making yourself a latte to spark some energy into you.
As you turned back around to face the counter you were caught off guard by--
" 'Scuse me, miss?" a smokey voice startled you, making your body jump in place with a gasp escaping your lips. The latte in your hands splashed in your grasp at the sudden response of your body, its contents lightly spilling over your apron.
"Shit!" you hissed, setting the cup down on the work counter behind you and grabbing the nearest rag to wipe your hands clean from any coffee that got on them. You looked up to the man across the counter, laughing at yourself in a mix of embarrassment at your clumsiness and lighthearted amusement.
At that moment, your eyes caught onto the face of the mystery man who had recently walked in. His expression was genuinely concerned and apologetic, truly not knowing what to do with himself as he stood across the counter.
"I'm so sorry, love, didn't mean to startle you," he stumbled over his words, "you alright?"
His voice was raspy and deep, sultry even. You noted the details of his face: blue eyes stared back at you, surrounded by long lashes and bushy eyebrows, his pink, velvety lips slightly parted as if having more apologies to let out, his nose pointed and narrow, and his beard neat and full. He was handsome, truly, and you couldn't look away.
"No worries!" you finally let out, a large smile on your face. "That's what these things are for!" you let out an awkward laugh, too loud to not give away the fact that you were flustered by his looks. Your hands worked the knot of the apron that tied at your waist as you spoke.
The man let out a nervous chuckle as he watched you, still dumbfounded and itching to help in some way like he was uncomfortable with himself for just standing by.
"What can I help you with, sir?" You asked, tossing the apron in a bin under the counter, where you and your cousin kept any kitchen cloths and rags that needed to be washed after your shift. You didn't break eye contact with the man as you did, you found it impossible to when his blue eyes sucked you like the depth of an ocean.
The man cleared his throat and fixed his posture, a nervous smile pulling at his bearded cheeks, "I was just wonderin' if y'could help me pick out a book" he pointed his thumb over his shoulders to the shelves behind him, "Any recommendations? 'M not sure where to look."
You responded with an eager 'of course' as you circled the counter, leading him to the array of shelves. "Are you looking for anything in particular?"
"Erm, up to your suggestion, really," he stood behind you, letting you take the lead, his eyes weighted on you. You responded with a pensive hum as your eyes scanned the shelves, hand holding your chin. You mumbled something under your breath and moved on to a different shelf. You reached for one of the books and turned back to him, handing the selection over to him. He took it from your hands.
Large hands, you observed. You hadn't realized until now how much taller the man was compared to you. You weren't a petite girl, but, this man stood tall; the way he carried himself proudly made him look even larger.
He eyed the book, taking a moment to read the cover. He chuckled lightly to himself and glanced over to you.
"As You Like It," he read.
"You read it?" you asked a bit flustered, afraid you had made the wrong choice, "I recommend it to everyone."
"I haven't, actually," he looked over to it again, "Not very well versed in Shakespeare."
You chuckled a bit, "Well, this is a good one to get you into it."
"I trust you," he said, a smirk on his face that made your cheeks burn.
"It can be a bit hard to read but..." you shrugged, "It's one of my favorites."
"I'll come to you if I need help, then."
Your stomach fluttered at his words. Was he flirting? Maybe he's just a charming guy, nothing special.
"Would you like anything else?" you stuttered. His gaze made you shift and adjust yourself, making you feel vulnerable to have it on you.
"I'd like a tea to keep you company while you finish your coffee if that's alright," he flirted, his husky voice made the hairs on your arms stand up.
You simply nodded with a smile and he followed you back to the counter. He sat on one of the stools as you stood behind the bar, he had asked you for a black tea and you steeped it for him, setting down a creamer and cup of sugar for him to add to taste. You went back to the latte you had made yourself, pouring it into ice after having let it get cold, and observed the man as subtly as you could manage. You noted he liked his tea on the sweeter side, maybe you would use that information for the next time he came around. You hoped he would.
You watched as he took a sip from the cup, humming to himself and licking his lips as he set the cup back down. 'Good tea', he said softly as if to himself. You couldn't help but let a smile tug at the corners of your lips; something about him enjoying it was pleasant to you.
"I'm John, by the way," he spoke up, his arms crossed on the counter. His eyes were on you again, and they were amiable and warm as they held contact with yours. You responded by telling him your name.
"Are you new around here, John?" you reclined on the counter behind you, your coffee in one hand.
"I am, I just moved in nearby," he took another sip from his cup.
"What made you pick this place, if I may ask?"
"Well, military accommodations, mainly," he cleared his throat.
Military, you thought. No wonder he was such a large and buff man. You noticed the flexed muscles that bulged under his sweater. That sweater did them no justice, you were sure.
"So you're a soldier?"
"Somethin' like that, yeah," he scoffed with a smirk. You gave him a small smile as well but chose not to press any further.
"What about the shop, what made you come in here?"
"Seemed like a cozy place to spend the day," he gave you a once over, not very conspicuously, "the pretty barista's a bonus."
You rolled your eyes at his comment but couldn't help the reddening of your cheeks or the growth of your smile that you tried but failed to suppress.
At that moment, your cousin walked through the door. John's eyes didn't budge to look at the door, though, they were glued on you. She passed behind him, giving you the most excited expression you had seen on her face thus far, and mouthed something along the lines of 'He is so fit!" as she made her way to the back of the store with bags of ingredients in her hands. You scoffed at her and returned to look at John.
"You flirt with all the baristas you find pretty, John?"
"Only the ones that look like you," the man quipped, chuckling lightly to himself as if acknowledging how cheesy he was being. His comment made you laugh wholeheartedly, shaking your head at it.
John finished his tea and fished into his pocket for his wallet, "I hate to leave, but... how much do I owe you, love?"
"It's on the house," you crossed your arms over your chest, giving him a cheeky look, "for being a first-time customer."
John gave you a smile with lightly flushed cheeks himself along with a grateful nod. He left his wallet in his pocket as he stood up from his seat and dressed his head with the beanie he had come in with.
"I'll come back 'round to tell you how the book's goin'," he signaled the book in his hand on the way out the door, "You make great company, love."
"Likewise, John," you bit your bottom lip to keep yourself from gushing at his words. You were using every atom in your body to not let yourself completely overflow with glee.
John gave you a final look and raised his hand goodbye before exiting the shop. You returned the gesture and watched him walk away down the street until he disappeared from your line of sight.
Once he was gone, you let out a deep breath you didn't know you were holding. You felt your heart skip a beat, maybe two, or even three beats as all the blood from your body surged to your face. Your cousin came skipping giddily from the back of the store, squealing like a schoolgirl as she embraced you. You couldn't help but join her in excitement. The two of you spoke in loud whispers behind the counter.
"That man is in love with you!"
"Oh, don't be ridiculous, he was just flirting!"
"Don't you be ridiculous! His eyes were devouring you, idiot! He might as well have fucked--"
You shushed her loudly and cupped your hand over her mouth, the two of you giggling. You two realized you were still on the clock, with some of the patrons shooting glances at you. It made you both adjust and compose yourselves as best you could, but shot each other knowing looks as you returned to work, cleaning dirty dishes and whatnot.
"So what's his name?" she asked.
"John, he just moved around here-- says he's in the military."
"Agh, hot!" she sang the last word. You rolled your eyes.
"What book did you give him?"
"As You Like It"
"Should've given him Lady Chatterley's Lover, maybe he would've taken the hint," she laughed as you pushed her with a hand playfully.
The rest of your shift went by uneventfully. You continued to serve more customers, tended to the regulars, and maintained the space. When it was closing time, the rays of the sun entered through the large windows, this time casting the golden glow of dusk. You mopped the floors of the shop and let yourself go deep into your thoughts.
You thought about John, of course, studying all the details you had taken note of. The way his lashes fanned over his deep, crystal blue eyes; how much care was put into maintaining his facial hair and how soft it looked; how chiseled his nose was; how the sweetness of his smile complimented the sweetness he liked in his tea. He looked much older than you, but you didn't mind the slightest, it was a minor detail to you, if anything. You recalled how he called you pretty, and it made you blush and gave you butterflies. You really hoped he'd come back, but didn't want to disappoint yourself if he didn't.
Once you two had finished closing, you stood outside the door with your cousin as she turned the key and locked the shop. She continued to tease you about John, making both of you laugh and making you blush with the innuendos and childish taunting she kept telling you. You bid each other farewells until tomorrow, walking your separate directions.
You lived just a couple of blocks away from the cafe in one of the many apartments nearby. A flat you had all to yourself and you enjoyed the solitude, you had learned to be with yourself from having been your only company, besides your cousin, throughout your life.
It made you think about the fact that it had been a while since you had liked someone. Did you like John?  The question stood out in your mind. It was definitely too early to tell, you had just met the man quite literally today, hours ago even. But you would be lying if you didn't say you felt some sort of attraction, chemistry between the two of you. Those hopes for seeing him again only grew the more you suppressed them.
But you kept telling yourself 'Don't get too excited,' because you might not see him again, after all. For now, let's simply call it a crush, it's all it was, really. Just a man you found attractive, a kind stranger you made you feel pretty and flattered momentarily, after so long of not hearing any men do so or having their attention.
John certainly gave you a lot of his attention, you thought. Those blue eyes of his. He entrapped you with them. An act as simple as being looked at by him made you feel undressed and vulnerable.
You shook your head when you were in your flat, just standing there in a trance deep in thought. You sighed and cursed at yourself under your breath.
You practiced your nightly routine of eating dinner by yourself, showering, dressing in your coziest pajamas, and sitting on your couch alone with either a book or a movie, and maybe a glass of something, maybe wine or a soothing tea.
And for once in your life, you hated being alone.
For once you wished there was someone to keep you company. A company as nice as John had kept you today even if it was brief. You sulked a bit on your sofa as you let that forlorn feeling take over just a little bit.
And though as much as you loved mundanity, the feeling of having someone new and exciting disrupt your routine sparked a warmth in you.
God, you hoped you'd see John again.

— ft. kuroo tetsurou
includes: a cute lil impromptu study date
Tumblr media
it’s april and we all know what that means, finals season. right now it’s just you, your laptop, numerous papers and notebooks, and an iced matcha latte enveloping you in the cozy cafe atmosphere. you’re trying study for your calculus test tomorrow and you’re pretty focused, for the most part.
about ten minutes ago you glance up from your studies where you notice a familiar face across the cafe, kuroo tetsurou. while you’re decently close with your classmate and you’ve made conversation with him numerous times, you figured both of you are too busy with your work for you to approach him right now. however you can’t seem to get the striking captain out of your head. you’ve always had an admiration for him but some would say it’s more like a crush… so after a solid 15 minutes of pretending to do work and pondering what to do, you finally decide to maybe shoot him a text!
y/n: hey am i tripping or is there an obnoxious volleyball player studying across from me?
kuroo: obnoxious is a strong word 😒 u also studying for the calc test? 😭
y/n: kind of …. not doin too hot rn
kuroo: oh well you’re in luck then
and just like that you glance up from your screen and notice him begin to gather his things and make his way towards you. the middle blocker plops himself down on a seat next to you and begins unpacking his bag. “don’t worry princess im here to save you from your calc demons.” your flutters a little at the sudden nickname, but you keep your composure with a quick retort “ok woah im not doing THAT bad.” “then why is your study guide blank?” damn, he got you there. “whatever you gonna help me or what?” since he’s a man of his word he opens his notebook helping you review what you’ve learned these past classes, and working you through each problem better than khan academy ever could. he’s concise but sweet, making sure to comfort you every time you’re overwhelmed or not sure how to solve a problem. you’ve never seen this side of him, you’re used to dealing with his cockiness and sarcasm and this caring demeanor is something new to you.
but just like that an hour and a half has gone by and you’ve both successfully gotten through all your homework! where did all the time go? you wondered to yourself. embarrassingly, you’re kind of upset that you’re study sesh has come to an end. you’ve always wanted to go out with kuroo outside of class, and this is the closest you’re ever gonna get to that. “oh well all good things must come to an end” kuroo says, almost defeated you thank him for all his help while you start packing your things.
“actually wait before you go,” you stop what you’re doing to look up at him, wondering what he possibly need. surely he’s just gonna ask about something from class right? wrong. hes flustered. almost red even. scratching the back of his neck he finally looks at you and says “i really enjoyed hanging out with you, and i just wondered if you wanted to do this again sometime?” you’ve never seen him so nervous before, so you let out a small smile with a slightly confused look on your face. “what, like study?” your smile ends up giving him reassurance and just like that his confident demeanor is back. he grabs your hand and says “well that’d be a pretty boring date don’t ya think?” grinning before placing a chaste kiss on your hand.
you look down to try and hide the rosy blush that now plastered your face (too late he already saw it). flustered by his sudden advance you look up and match his confidence arrogance with your own. “alright then, but if i don’t get an A on this test im rejecting you”
“oh like that’s ever gonna happen” you roll your eyes, but he has a point.

they're-both-so-helpless
Rengoku Kyojuro x Reader
Word Count: ~600
CW: explicit language, mild sexual content
Author’s Note: starting 2024 off w/ Kyojuro❣️ Began writing this while at work… winter makes for slow days when selling ice cream. 😆 Pt 2 coming ~soon aka prob within the next 24 hrs since my shift’s almost over lol.
emphasis-on-helpless, helplessly-in-love
Tumblr media
Missing your boyfriend is tough… especially when he isn’t actually your boyfriend.
“He might as well be!” Mitsuri says whenever she’s with you, “I swear you check your phone at least twice as often ever since you became friends.” The tips of your ears warm, eyes glued to the newest Snap of Kyojuro’s cheerful face. “Will you at least show me?” Mitsuri huffs, head tilting to catch a glance, “Aww, he’s so cute!” “But he’s not my boyfriend,” you mutter, quickly snapping a blurry photo of your melting ice cream. Eyes gleaming, Mitsuri hums knowingly, slinging a giddy arm around you without another word. You silently thank her gesture of respecting your privacy—something your other friend, Shinobu, rarely does—hurriedly eating a spoonful of your dessert as he snaps back: You got ice cream without me?! ☹️ I fear I am mortally wounded. 💔 You appease him with a Snap of your own frown, promising him i’ll bring u next time 🥺🍦 pointedly ignoring Mitsuri’s smooching noises when Kyojuro fires back with It’s a date! 😁😋 Sooo maybe nobody respects your privacy.
You’ve never considered yourself shy, but you have resigned yourself to being perpetually friendzoned, a bit too person-next-door in a would-never-date-their-neighbor way rather than a person-next-door who also is-totally-down-to-date-their-handsome-neighbor way. Like puffing out your chest while walking on the sidewalk to convey confidence and get people out of your path, you’ve mastered the art of giving off don’t-fuck-with-me vibes — despite desperately wanting to fuck.
And therein lies the problem-not-actually-a-problem with one Rengoku Kyojuro. Also known as, Mitsuri’s favorite barista. Also known as, immediately flirted with you when Mitsuri finally took you to his cafe for brunch, writing his number on your cup and everything. Also known as, might not have been flirting with you and in fact was just being nice because he has yet to properly-not-jokingly ask you on a real-official-non-platonic date. You’ve survived a blustery autumn of pumpkin spice lattes and too many free muffins, persevered through a surprisingly snug winter of It’s my special recipe hot chocolates and ice skating with the gang (Mitsuri, Shinobu, Kyojuro, and his insufferable friend Tengen), and felt wistfully hopeful as spring came and went, having your voice compared to blossoming flowers and your smile to tender sunshine… only to dream alone, his contagious grin and addictingly cozy hugs lingering even as you woke with the sensation of tears in your eyes.
“You should tell him how you feel!” Shinobu sighs, an exasperated, endeared sound as she watches you bemoan your adoration.
“Oh yeah, because he definitely feels the same after a year of literally zero signs!”
“He called your ice cream plans last week a date,” Mitsuri chimes in, rubbing your shoulders as she exchanges a they’re-both-so-helpless look with Shinobu.
“Platonically,” you shoot back, sagging into Mitsuri’s touch, “He’s so gentlemanly and sweet, I never know whether we’re flirting or he’s simply being polite! Friendly! A friend!”
“I repeat,” Shinobu deadpans, “Tell him how you feel.”
You pout, chewing on your upper lip as you mumble, “And if he doesn’t like me?”
“Nonsense!” Mitsuri declares brightly, squeezing you—Owww—a little too hard, “He doesn’t talk to anyone else like he talks to you.”
“I talk to you differently than I talk to Shinobu. Doesn’t mean anything,” you grumble.
“I’m trying to uplift you,” Mitsuri huffs, playfully pulling on your earlobe, “Trust us. Okay? He would absolutely date you if he knew you were interested in dating.”
“Since when have I said I’m not interested?!” you wail in dismay.
“You’ve never said you are interested,” Shinobu quips.
You scowl at her as she tosses a good natured pillow at you, Mitsuri clicking her tongue as you squish the pillow against your sternum, heart aching when your phone lights up Rengoku Kyojuro sent you a Snap • 🔥.

Hello 👋🏾, so recently I got a new job and I’m definitely starting to stick to a stricter budget, while working on myself. Truth is since it my first solo date, what do you think a great for solo date is. Also, I love your content 🫶🏾🫶🏾🩵
INEXPENSIVE SOLO DATE IDEAS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going to a local cafe or restaurant with a nice view, or a bustling atmosphere.
Have your mini picnic at your local park. Cook all of your favourite foods, or just go to your local takeout.
Go outside with headphones or a book with a cold/hot drink, and watch the sunrise or sunset
Go to your local pharmacy, and purchase a bunch of sheet masks, bath salts or fizzers and anything else you like. Then have your own spa day from head to toe. Wash your hair then wrap it around in a cute turban, do a rejuvenating face mask, paint your nails & toenails and more. Bonus points if you blast music while doing this.
Make a pillow fort with what you have, then just cozy up while reading, meditating, listening to a podcast, or just doomscrolling.
Do a paint and dip/sip at home. Put on some relaxing music, get your favourite (non) alcoholic drink or set aside some chips and dips then paint whatever you feel like.
Pretend you are your own partner/best friend, and do something that matches what activity your current/future partner or best friend would do.
Go to the library just to chill. You don’t have to do any work, but just sit in that atmosphere. You can read a book, study on your favourite topic or just bring your macbook to do some olineshopping.
Make your own breakfast in bed. Make a nice, hearty and filling breakfast to put on a tray then bring it back to your bed to eat.
Buy flowers for yourself and put it on display. OR you can buy some seeds, plant some as a reminder of self love and actually take care of it like how you want to take care of yourself.
Imagine anything on your bucket list that you’ve always wanted to do with someone else, then just do it solo.

he never was a family man— until he met you..
cw: fem reader, y/n is described to be plus sized and a little short, you have two kids, teensy bit of angst, more of a modern au, google translated names 😒, y/n talks bad about herself briefly but toji makes her stop 🙈
a/n: please idk why but when i thought of this i immediately needed to write it. also this is so random and i wrote this in the middle of the night so i apologize if its kinda stinky
masterlist
enjoy!~
Tumblr media
toji never thought of himself as a family man.. especially since he had a kid of his own that was basically nonexistent to him. he never planned on getting in a serious relationship either— until he met you.
he was out getting coffee at a shop a friend recommended. it was a cute place. had a cottage vibe. when he entered, he froze as he was immediately hit with a sweet scent. the place was cozy in the nicest way possible, there being couches and tables everywhere for customers to sit. as he approached the counter, he glanced down to meet eyes with the pretty little barista behind the counter.. aka you.
“welcome! is there anything i can get for you today?” you asked, your voice sickeningly sweet. toji almost forgot how to function, stuffing his hands in his pockets.
“uh..” he muttered as he looked up to get a look at the menu. “coffee.. nothing in it. and i guess a chocolate croissant too.” he said, watching as you happily put his order in the machine.
“i think you’ll really like the croissant! it’s really good!” you say with a gentle smile.
toji glanced at the total on the little screen facing him as he took out his wallet. “the prices here aren’t bad.. might start coming here more..” he muttered as he took out some money, handing it to you. that was totally the reason.. yeah.. the “prices.”
“well when the owners started this place up, they wanted to think about everyone that may come here.. so they made the prices a lot less expensive than most cafes. it was really sweet of them to do that.” you say, your eyes softening as you look at toji.
soon toji’s coffee and croissant was made, and he made his leave.
then on he came to the exact same cafe almost every day, order something, chat with you, then leave. eventually he even started hanging out with you during your breaks, which quickly turned into hanging out after you got off work.
he learned that you had two kids from a previous marriage. two five year olds who were twin daughters.
he even got the chance to meet them when you invited him to dinner.
it all started with you welcoming him inside, your daughters hiding behind you as they looked at him with big eyes.
“hey there.. you two must be the little ones y/n told me about yeah? niko and tsuki?” he spoke as he knelt down to their level. niko was first to leave your side, shyly moving to go to toji. “hey there.. you look just like your mama.” he says before his eyes flicker to tsuki. “you too..” he says, giving both of the girls a faint smile.
your heart almost melted as you watched both of your daughters interact with toji. “you guys get to know each other, i’ll get dinner started.” you say before heading to the kitchen.
toji watched as you walked away, his eyes softening ever so slightly.
“do you like mama?” tsuki finally spoke up for the first time. her voice was a lot quieter than niko’s. she held her arms up, asking for him to pick her up. toji smiled before picking her up, chuckling as she held onto him.
“hey! me too me too!!” niko pouted, jumping slightly with her arms up. toji laughed before picking niko up with his other arm, smiling as the two girls held onto him.
“to answer your question, tsuki.. i do. a lot. but don’t tell her yet, cuz it’s a secret. yeah?” toji said as he sat on the couch, niko and tsuki sitting comfortably on his legs.
“we won’t tell! pinky promise!” niko said as she held out her pinky. toji smiled and linked pinkies with her. “are you gonna be our papa?” niko asked softly.
before toji even got the chance to respond, you came back, a little smile on your face. “i see you guys got comfy.” you say as you sat on the couch with them, niko moving to sit on your lap.
toji wrapped an arm around you, watching as you rest your head on his chest. niko gives tsuki a knowing look before looking at you. “mama, can me and tsu go play in our room?” she asked, looking at you sweetly.
“go ahead, sweetheart. be careful!” you say as you watch the girls run to their room. you could faintly here their giggles as they play, your heart warming from the sound.
“you mind if i ask a personal question?” toji suddenly spoke up, his hand resting on your hip.
you look at him, your eyes widening a little. “go ahead.. i don’t mind.” you say as your hand rests on his abdomen.
“what happened with their dad?.. i mean— why isn’t he here? if that makes sense.. you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.” he spoke, his voice softening a little.
you sigh softly as you rest your head on his chest. “their dad.. he was a sweet man but… there was another woman. and she was important enough for him to leave us. i don’t blame him.. she’s a goddess compared to me.. she’s skinnier.. taller.. everything i’m not.” you say softly before you feel toji press a finger to your lips to stop you.
“he didn’t deserve someone as beautiful as you.. you’re perfect… and he was an idiot to leave you for some girl.” he said as he gently caressed your cheek. you leaned into his touch, feeling your face warm up as you met eyes with him.
“i’m not perfect..” you chuckle awkwardly. “i’m clumsy, i’m no where close to neat, i’m awful at cook-” toji cut you off as his lips gently pressed against yours. you close your eyes after a moment of surprise, gently kissing him back.
you look into his eyes shyly after he breaks the kiss. “you. are. perfect.” he says, lifting your chin to look into your eyes.
over the next few months, you went out on dates with toji, spending a lot of your downtime with him. he even moved in at some point.
it was a surprise when niko first called him “papa.” toji was in bed with you, watching tv together when niko came running in with a drawing she made in hand. she looked so proud of herself as she basically shoved it in his face.
“papa! look at my drawing!” she said as she handed him the drawing. he gave you a little glance as he smiled faintly before looking at the drawing. niko had drawn you, him, plus her and her sister.
“it’s amazing, niko.. we should hang it up on the fridge, yeah? show it off to anyone that visits.” he said as he got out of bed, heading to the kitchen while niko happily followed.
about two months later, toji got a call. “hello?” he said as he answered the phone. he could hear tsuki crying softly over the phone. “tsuki? what’s going on?” he asked as he sat up.
“i got in trouble, papa.. i punched my classmate b’cuz he scribbled all over my paper..” she sniffled. “you or mama needs to come pick me up because i can’t be at school for the rest of the day..”
toji smiled a little as he caught the name. “alright.. we’ll come get you soon, alright?” he said as he got out of bed, glancing at you to hint to start getting ready.
“okay, papa.. i’m sorry..” tsuki said softly.
“don’t worry about it, i’ll tell your mama what happened on the way okay?” toji said as he put on his jacket, holding his phone to his ear using his shoulder.
you ended up being a little upset when you found out, but it all worked out in the end.

Do u have any podcast and youtube recs ?? Sosmething similar to your blogs vibe !!
hiiii! tysm for the ask! (sorry i didn’t answer it earlier, i was studying for an exam)
i actually do! i’ve been really into aesthetic, self improvement content because i find it so helpful to consume positive media 💗 here are some of my personal faves:
Youtube
Rebecca Jay- my absolute faaaavourite youtuber at the moment! she makes things like routine vlogs and advice videos, but they are so cute and calming!
Annika’s Leaf- I’ve loved her videos for forever! She makes a lot of vlogging content and her life is so gentle and relaxing to watch.
Princess Jess- She makes vids to do with a lot of trendy stuff like ‘wonyoungism’ and ‘coquette’ things. Her vids are super cute!
Linda Sun- Her videos aren’t the same sort of aesthetic as my account, but I love watching her videos for advice- especially her newer content.
Cozy K- She makes really gentle yet motivating content that always reminds me that it’s okay to slow down and be cosy :))
Podcasts
Busy Yet Pretty- This is my all time favourite podcast! I listen to it legitimately every week when it comes out and it’s super motivating. The host, Jadyn, gives really helpful advice too, whilst also covering trending topics.
The Wellness Cafe- This one is similar to busy yet pretty and the host also gives super great advice. I love listening to both of these on walks or when i’m getting ready in the morning!

biggest of brain energy re warm bread and beloved skeletons - so.... might i offer you .................. patisserie/baker au??
the boys are all rival(ish) bakers/pastry chefs on the same cute little side block of a quaint walkable downtown.
Sans has that extremely detailed, finicky pastry work down pat, on top of all the strange new versions that keep, somehow, making filo dough more difficult and yet structurally impressive. he's tried all those cool gastro-chef techniques, but just loves & excels at the fancy little pastries. absolutely the type to just close the shop when he's sold out of whatever he felt interested in making a lot of that day. surprisingly good-yet-bad social media presence. makes the jokiest videos and jankiest signs advertising when he's got a new batch of Something Tasty out, but the most beautiful shots of his pastries.
Red is one of those not-so-surprisingly charming excon-type (maybe never actually in prison, but y'know) bakers that looks intimidating but makes the best goddamn homey baked goods you ever had. pies, breads, big soft filled rolls, anything that feels ghibli as hell, frankly. has a not-so-secret love of making those really decorative lattice-style pie crusts; can absolutely make art you wouldn't want to eat if not for how damned good you know the pie is. always the most slammed during autumn, has spirited """debates""" with Sans (who is directly across the cobbled street) whenever they get deliveries at the same time, often about incredibly inane but opinionated baking nuances. accidentally best friends with all the local widows and grandmas. frequently propositioned by all genders.
Skull is a bit of the odd man out - he used to work at a little old cakeshop on the corner, but Something Happened one day and that corner store has frustratingly been turned into Insert Encroaching Soulless Chain Here. he now works at the back of the little pizzeria, making the best goddamn pizza dough anyone's ever had. seeing him flip and spin those pizzas is art in and of itself. rumor still had it that there was someone on staff at that cakeshop that could make the most dazzling wedding cakes you ever did see, but they also made the flavors involved so harmonious you could cry....
....... MC is a new arrival, perhaps opening up her own little shop - a little cafe maybe, specializing in warm drinks and a simple menu of baked goods like croissants and scones and cookies, some finger foods, and most importantly Cozy Vibes.
maybe she puts out an ad for a proper baker to help her out while she makes the teas and coffees and runs the front....
... and maybe some shenanigans ensue ✧∠( ᐛ 」∠)_
genius. absolutely genius. allow me to lose my fucking mind
Mc opens up her delightful little cafe. It's small, obviously, since she's technically the only employee- though she's great at coffee she struggles to make anything more complex than a cookie for cafe food. Her croissants melt and flatten, her pies collapse, her attempts at macarons just spread out into a sheet. So! She puts out an ad!
Sans: Ironically, his habit of only making what he's interested in and randomly closing shop without warning has made his desserts even more sought after. The incredible intricate and unique nature of his treats give them an element of scarcity, and people will come from all over to get to his next batch early. The sign out the front says 'open 10am to 5pm monday to wednesday. open some thursdays, depends how i feel. closed the second friday in the month, unless we were open thursday before. open saturday. closed sunday'.
He was a bit suspicious of her cafe, he'll admit it. He's suspicious of anything new on the street. Various chain brands have been infiltrating the previously majority monster-run area, and he hates the way his favourite place is slowly being subsumed by shitty corporate machine-made food. But it only took one visit (purely out of curiosity) for him to get love at first sight.
Since his store has such a reputation, he can afford to flunk whenever he likes to go sit in with her and chat for hours; he's a welcome presence. After noticing her difficulty with baking he starts giving her tips but quickly graduates to giving her some of his stock, instantly boosting her popularity. She thinks he's giving her leftover stock he doesn't need- she has no idea he's making stuff specifically for her.
Red: Red and Pap do have a tendency to treat their business like it's a mafia. The way they call it the 'family business' often makes people think it's a front for organised crime. And it was, once- the two of them only opened the store to cover up what was happening behind the scenes. But then they enjoyed running a bakery so much that they dropped the crime. He doesn't like the way Sans has turned baking into something snooty and highbrow; Red thinks food should be delicious and comforting, not a one-bite commodity people pay out of the nose for.
Red becomes a cafe regular, he goes during breaks and straight after work. He spends most of his time standing up at the counter flirting relentlessly, but he's so on the dot that she usually has his order ready for him. He offers to teach her to make a good pie- "payment? what're you talkin' about, doll? seein' yer pretty face is payment enough fer me." There would definitely be some scenes of him teaching her to bake... standing behind her with his hands over hers, showing her the technique to fold dough, though neither of them are really concentrating because he's grinning like an idiot and she can only feel how hot her face is.
(He'd probably ruin it with a 'wish you'd pound my dough like that'. A swift smack, and the magic of the moment is over)
Skull: He's the one that responds to her ad.
Though he didn't mind his job, per say, he misses being able to make his own stuff. Pizza tossing can only do so much to fill the baking-shaped hole in his heart. He wanted to apply anyway, it was just a stroke of luck that the cafe owner turned out to be the love of his life. Though he's a bit spooky and looks at her like he can't see anything else, she's quick to accept him, telling him he can make whatever he wants- and that's when he works his magic. All the stunning cakes lining the display case are his handiwork.
He's a man of few words, and he doesn't like being in public, so he's always in the back baking and cleaning. He wishes he had the confidence to talk to her more. She brings him coffee whenever she has time, as thanks for all his hard work... she leaves foam art, since it's one of the few things she can do. Though when she leaves a heart, the coffee usually ends up going cold. He tends to just stare at the heart until the foam is gone.

I saw one of your latest fics (PERFECT HONEY🤍) and I just thought you were a great writer and it was like so cute and soft AAARGH
and then I also saw that you were accepting requests and I couldn't help but get excited, because I had an idea the other day - BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO WRITE 😭 so...
I was thinking about a short story fluff like with re2r Leon, where he still works at the police station but kind of without those traumatizing events YOU KNOW (or idk, you decide) so,,, he already knows Claire, who works in a cozy café near the police station where Leon usually goes on his break, buttt,, a new employee arrived (reader) and became friends with Claire (and kind of attracted Leon's attention 🥀) and idk, she (you decide if you want to use a feminine or neutral pronoun;) could work as a barista or waitress and was kind to Leon, until Leon started going to the cafe more often just to see her (or babbling about how pretty she is with Claire) until he found the courage to ask for her number or talk properly with her and, I don't know, this could end in a date or just Leon being a fool in love with a kind barista or waitress :)
IDK I AM DELULU BUT I KIND OF THOUGHT OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT
so...feel free to ignore this if you found it boring hun ^^ Thank you in advance for reading this thought and if you want to accept the idea ;)🩷🩷

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notes: My first request! I hope you like this, I honestly found this concept so cute, and I love writing for RE2R Leon.
WC: 1.7K
CW: Fluffy Leon, no outbreak, Leon just being a clutz sometimes. Claire being your wingwoman basically and getting you both together. Mention of Y/N like once.
➽───────────────────────❥
After his first week in the RPD, Leon managed to get himself to work early enough to not get a lecture from Lieutenant Branagh. Soon enough, he met Chris Redfield who worked for S.T.A.R.S. Which quickly led to Chris taking him to a nearby café where his sister worked. Claire was a sweet girl, Leon and her slowly opened up to each other after a few days. Promptly, he became a regular customer. Getting the same raspberry and white chocolate muffin alongside a vanilla latte. Today was no different, Leon entering the café - however, he didn't see Claire at the counter. But you.
Leon couldn't help but think you were the prettiest girl he had seen. Trying to avert his eyes from your face he felt his legs subconsciously walk over to where Claire was sweeping the floor. "Morning Claire... New employee?" He mumbled as he nodded his head over to your direction. "Yeah! She came in yesterday. Super sweet." She laughed, taking out the tea towel as she wiped down the coffee table. "You don't have to be scared Leon." Claire couldn't help but snicker as she stared at Leon mentally psyching himself up to not fuck up his order. "I'm not scared.." He yipped back, before walking up to the counter.
Your hands slowly wrapped around the mug handle as you polished the inside of it, oblivious to the man in front of you. A quiet tap of the bell seized your attention, looking up to see a dark blonde haired man staring at your movements. "Oh! Sorry, hold on I'll only be a minute." You frantically rush back to the mug stack, gently placed it on top before returning to the stranger. "Sorry about that, what can I get you?" A bright smile is plastered on your face as you tap onto the half broken machine, trying to input your worker code. "Uh.. please could I get the raspberry white chocolate muffin and a vanilla latte?" Leon asked, fumbling with his thumbs below the counter. Thank fuck he didn't mess up his sentence. His hands slowly travelled to his face as he swept the hair out of his eyes, maybe he really should get a trim...
"Yeah of course! That'll be $6.24 please." Leon fumbled with his wallet after taking out $10. "You can keep the change." Leon uttered as the cash register opened, the till jittering out. You couldn't help but smile sweetly as he offered the change to you. "Are you sure?" He nodded as he saw you put the tip in your pocket. "Thanks... I'll get that for you straight away." Your body shifted towards the coffee machine. Leon couldn't help but admire the way you performed your job, it was somehow so different to how Claire would do it. You were angelic in your movements - his thoughts soon interrupted as he felt someone tap his shoulder. "In love?" Claire teased, earning a nudge from Leon's elbow into her side. "Ouch! Okay.. okay." She laughed as she went behind the counter, packaging Leon's muffin. You couldn't help but glance at Leon's smile. He was cute, super cute.
A few minutes later, a warm takeaway coffee cup and muffin stuffed into a brown paper bag laid neatly in front of Leon. "Thanks." Leon took both items into his hand and waved off to Claire, showing you a small smile as the bell chimed, indicating he had left the store. "Who was that?" You rushed over to Claire, her eyes looking at you with playful eyes. "That's Leon, he's my brother's friend or I guess co-worker sort of? He works for the RPD." Claire responded to you with a funny tone. "Why are you looking at me like that?" You laughed out, slowly wiping down the coffee stains on the counter. Your eyes wondering over to the door, missing the stranger you just encountered. "Oh it's nothing, I'm sure you and him will get along well y'know?" She giggled, shoving the tea towel in her pocket. "What the fuck is that suppos-" Your sentence quickly cut off as Claire shouted "I'm going on my break!"
Days passed, time and time again Leon soon became a person you got used to seeing. Smiling whenever you would see that navy blue uniform. A small crush blossomed in your heart - you couldn't tell him that though. Nor could you tell Claire, but she saw it in the way you stared at him as he ordered the same thing. Soon enough, you prepared it beforehand for him to have immediately. 8:30 AM, that's when Leon would come in. With that same uniform and same hairstyle, oh and of course he was handsome every time. Today was no different, except for the fact you weren't in. Leon's day was 100 times better when he saw you, entering the café he expects to see you. Seeing Claire at the front instead of cleaning caught him off guard. "Where's Y/N?" Leon closed the door behind him, leaving the cold and rubbing his hands together as the cozy environment felt different.
"She called in sick, why? Are you lovestruck?" She poked fun at him, getting his order ready. "Oh shut up.." He chuckled, sitting down at a nearby table. Thinking about Claire's words, he knew she was right. He was lovestruck by you. Leon couldn't help but find you so attractive, the way you were so attentive to him. That small talk wasn't awkward with you. He had a crush. "Honestly, yeah." His eyes diverted to the muffin and latte ahead of him. Claire's ears perked hearing his mini confession? "Oh?" She smacked his shoulder lightly. "She's beautiful and super sweet, don't get me started on how.." Leon soon rambled on about you, from your personality to your looks, the way you carried yourself. Losing himself in time as he subconsciously sipped on the latte, finishing the muffin. Claire had to sit down for this, it was cute seeing him chatter about you. "Fuck, sorry about that." He chuckled, checking his wrist-watch, seeing the time flicker to 9:00 AM. "Shit, I gotta go. Thank you for the treat Claire." Leon hastily got up and dashed out the door. Oh how Claire couldn't wait to tell you all about this tomorrow.
"You're shitting me right?" You mumbled, polishing the mugs as you looked over to the wall clock. 8:25 AM. Leon's order by your side as you heard Claire laugh. "Why would I lie about him basically confessing his love about you?" She nudged your arm, snickering as your eyes rolled back playfully. As if Leon could have a crush on you. I mean, you were just a barista who served him his raspberry white chocolate muffin and vanilla latte. What could've been so special about your actions? "Get out of your trance, it's 8:28." You heard Claire from one ear to another as she moved to dust the corners of the room. Oh how cruel could she be to leave you with this new information? The chime of the door caught you off-guard, seeing that same man in that RPD uniform.
"Good morning Leon." A shaky voice elicited from your throat. For Christs sake, pull yourself together. "Morning.. I see my order there." He chuckled, pulling out his wallet, taking out a $20 bill. "Keep the rest." A small grin crept on his face as he passed it to you. You couldn't accept this, not for basically doing something that took you three minutes at most. "Oh Leon, I can't accept this." A breathy laugh pursued out your lips. He wasn't going to take no for an answer. "Please, it's on me. You've been nothing but sweet to me. And this place must be a pain in the ass to clean up at the end of the day." Leon laughed as he took his muffin and latte, sitting down at a table. That was unusual. He usually left to enjoy his snack, but today seemed different. Your friendship seemed different. Leon was right, the sticky sugared tables and coffee splatters were annoying to clean - knowing he would refuse the money if given back to him, you stuffed the change in your pocket. "Thanks Leon.. but you really don't have to tip me each day. Makes me feel guilty, like I owe you." You muttered as you came out from behind the counter. Leon's eyes wondered over you, a small smile corrupting his lips as he thought of something.
"Well.. if you think you owe me, come sit down with me for a bit?" A teasing tone was laced with his words, but who were you to deny him. Even if the blush on your face was evident. "Alright, but why are you sat down? Don't you have to get to the station quick?" Your question rang in his head, your voice melodic in his ears. "Not really, if it comes to it I'll run." He chuckled, sipping on the latte. Burning just the tip of this tongue - warming up the rest of his body. Nothing warmed him up like you though, those pretty lips that rested peacefully on your face. Your giggles enticing him as he looked at your hands slowly fiddle, it was clear you were nervous. Fuck. So was he, but to him this was now or never.
"I uh... can I have your number?" Leon hastily said, averting his eyes from you and staring into the little leaf shape carved by the frothed milk in his hot drink. Did he mess up? Troubled thoughts rushed over Leon's head until he heard you speak. "My number, sure." You couldn't help but smile, Leon just asked for your number. This was practically a dream come true. A quick exchange of each others phone numbers soon lead to a conversation. Getting to know each other was time consuming which soon lead to Leon's face dropping as he checked his wristwatch. "Shit it's 9:15." He laughed, putting his leftovers in the bin. "I'll text you later yeah?" His hand waved off to you, feeling content in yourself.
Throwing your bag to the side of your room, your back aching from the constant horrible posture you had as you bent over tables to wipe them. Your phone buzzed. It was from Leon.
Leon: Can I take you out for dinner this weekend?

<- Chapter 7 Chapter 9 ->
"Your heart is so soft, I find it hard to believe anyone could ever hurt you."
Tumblr media
|——————————— ⴵ ———————————|
...You tap on your contacts, scrolling down in the alphabetical pattern. Soon you find yourself, not at the bottom, but at the letter N.
Lingering on the contact, your mind filled with thoughts of everything that could happen. You didn't even know her full name, but the contact seemed like she had saved it with her first letter.
"What am I doing?" The whisper of your voice wasn't meant to be directed to anyone but you, yet you could feel movement on your body of a paw gently landing on your stomach.
You look down and see Lucky, staring up at you adorably and peacefully, his eye shining from the sunlight. There was a small reflection of the park in his pupil.
This was a better decision than going back to your ex though, isn't it? You took a deep breath in and sighed, your free hand gently going through Lucky's fur.
Then, you look back at the screen and decide to text the stranger, your thumbs hesitantly making their moves.
hi :]
I'm Y/N, the one with the golden retriever
I got the right phone number, right?
you're the redhead from earlier?
Her reply came in quicker than you had expected, so your heart skips a beat when you see her typing.
Hey. :]
You've got it. I'm the redhead.
I don't know your name so...
Natasha.
But you can call me Nat.
Natasha. thats a pretty name :]
Thank you. Yours is cute.
Cute.
At that, you had gotten far too distracted and lose your grip, your phone sliding out your hands and falling atop your face.
"Ow." The golden retriever in your lap jumped slightly and went forward, his nose bumping into your hand or face as you picked up your phone once more, seeing him check if you were hurt.
"I'm okay," you say with a gentle chuckle, and Lucky licked your face once before retreating back to his original place.
Your eyes focus on your phone screen once more, reading the words she's written out.
So, when do you think you're free?
Thinking it over, your teeth sinks into your bottom lip, wondering if you should dive in, or take small cautious steps.
With you basically not having a job anymore, considering you're in New York, you had all the time in the world.
how about friday?
She doesn't reply for a few minutes, and you almost got anxious, thinking you had somehow scared her off or lost her interest, but the three bubbles soon pop up once more.
Friday's good for me.
I know a cozy cafe somewhere near cornelia street. Only, it is french though, would you like that?
I'm okay with anything really!
maybe we could also hang out at that pizza
place we met near?
Or well...the second time we met?
As long as you're comfortable with the place we pick, pizza sounds good too.
It didn't matter what you picked as much, but seeing as you were slightly more familiar with the area, you chose that. Plus, you'd be able to get Lucky or Kate a pizza once you were done.
friday, pizza place at 2, if
thats okay with you?
Then its settled. See you there :]
see you!! :]
After a few seconds of not doing anything else but stare at the screen for a bit, you turn off your phone and set it aside. You weren't sure if the warmth you felt on your face was from the sun starting to shine on you, or whatever had just happened earlier.
Looking at the time on your watch, you decide its best you go back to Kate's apartment before you'd end up falling asleep on the grass and it'll be sundown.
Your hand props your body up, and at the movement, Lucky shifts until he realizes you're about to stand up, to which he gets off of you and places his paws on the grass.
With a lighter heart, you gather your things and make your way back home, Lucky somehow not getting distracted along the way as he followed beside you.
The close of the door echoes through the apartment when you arrive, kicking your shoes off. Surprisingly, Kate was already home, watching The Hunger Games on the couch.
She paused the movie and turns her head to look at you, her eyes moving from the dog beside you and you. She saw something different in you, but didn't question it, thinking it was just because you went on a walk outside.
"Hey." You say gently to Kate as you leaned down to take the leash off of Lucky, and she smiled, seeing the pizza dog run to her with excitement of seeing her again.
"Hey. Wanna join?" She asks you, then greeting Lucky when he arrived to her, and jumping on the couch to lay beside her.
"Sure, which movie are you on?" You walk over to both of them, sitting at the single open space there was left.
"The first one. I just started, so you're right on time." Kate had brought out a treat from somewhere beside her, holding it in her hand and testing Lucky's patience.
"How was the walk?" She asks as she glances up at you. Lucky was slowly moving forward, sniffing until he chomped on it while Kate got distracted, and you had to hold in a laugh from his swift movement. Kate on the other hand, had a shocked face from the sudden feeling of his saliva.
"Good. But this little guy saw a pizza restaurant while on our walk." You pointed at the golden retriever, your hand then moving to pet his head.
"Oh, no, what happened?" She freezes and stares at you, a million thoughts in her head. Could Lucky have ran into the restaurant? Did he steal someone's pizza? But look at his eye. He could never have done something like that. But he could. But he wouldn't.
"He practically dragged me towards it." You chuckle softly, pulling your hand back and sitting back against the couch, putting your legs up and getting comfortable.
"Jeez, you little troublemaking pizza lover." She cups Lucky's head, shaking her head before gently running her hands through his fur.
"Are you okay though?" She asks softly, her face turning into one of concern as she looks back up at you once more.
"Yeah, I accidentally bumped into someone, but I'm fine." You brush it off lightly, your mind proceeding to think of the redhead you had met, and the messages, but you decide against mentioning it to Kate.
She hums, "Better keep in mind the path you're walking in the future, then." You let the words sink in. It had sounded deeper than you knew she intended it to, and she probably didn't even notice as she played with Lucky. She then settled back comfortably on the couch, resuming the movie.
"I will." You say under your breath, nodding, but she didn't give another word, her eyes focused on the screen. The rest of the night continues with small conversations and jokes until the two of you bid each other goodbye to go to your bedrooms and sleep.
You fell onto your bed, wanting to close your eyes and surrender into the darkness, but you can't help but only twist and turn for a bit, unable to rid your mind of every thought it had.
Since you couldn't sleep, you grab your phone from the side, checking it for anything. For a moment, you linger on the text messages, going over every word before closing the app.
When you went to the lockscreen to clear your notifications of anything else so you don't read the things you've already seen later in the morning, you notice your low battery. So, you reach to the side to turn on your charger and plug your phone, the battery going green in indication.
Yawning, you try sleeping once more, this time, it starting to look to be more successful, and soon enough, the whole world disappearing until your breathing went into a softer rhythm.
The night passes by, the moon slowly fading out from the sky as it brightened with the sun that was rising.
You did your morning routine tiredly, repeating onwards until it was friday. With the smell of freshly blended fruits from Kate's smoothie she had made still lingering in the air, you walk out the living room fully ready to go out.
Well, your appearance is ready. You, on the inside? You were not prepared, even if you had a few days to get yourself together. It was just hanging out with her, right?
Was it a date? No. No, it can't be. You had just met. It was a planned meeting...meeting? That sounds too formal. Planned hang out? Oh, whatever it is, you're not ready for it.
Kate sees you anxiously check your phone along with the time, to then you making sure you have everything in your pockets. Her curiosity peaks and she stops working on her smoothie.
"Where are you going?" She asks simply, and a tinge of red lightly crosses your face as you realize she was observing the way you're acting, and you try to make yourself look more proper.
"Just...on a walk." You say your words slowly, treading carefully, yet making it up as you go along. "I'm thinking of grabbing some stuff from the nearby bakery." That was a lie. Well, a half lie. You're going to visit a bakery, but you're going to go on a dat- hang out with a certain redhead.
"Really?" She squints her eyes at you suspiciously, scanning your fancier than usual of an appearance. She's noticed all the times you've had the tiniest hint of a smile when you'd stare at your phone the past few days too.
"Yeah." You nod, trying to make it seem believable as you go towards the door, your keys clinking within your hand. "You want anything?"
"Well, if it's true, grab me a croissant." She shrugs, playing along even though she could already suspect what was happening.
"The chocolate one?" You point your finger up to her in gesture, and she smiles, tilting her head. She honestly looked like Lucky for a moment.
"Yes, the chocolate one," Kate said with a small gentle chuckle leaning on the kitchen counter, as she wondered how you had remembered. She had only gotten it once or twice but found it delicious each time.
"Okay, bye!" You open the door and was going to get out, but feel Lucky bumping into you with his head and paws, having ran to you thinking you were going on another walk with him. But, you gently push him, telling him he'll get his next walk another time. He soon relents, sitting down and watching you go. Little did he know, Kate would be home for the entire day.
"Bye!" She says, putting her hand up to wave at you slightly, about to return to finishing putting her smoothie into her cup before looking at you once more, who was right about to close the door. "Oh, and have fun!" She adds teasingly, a smile on her face.
You only felt the blood stream into your cheeks further but shut the door to start your journey to your planned meetup. As you walked along the path, you had a sense of deja vu. Yet this time, you aren't going to the park. Your legs stop completely at the pizza place.
Your eyes scan the area first, seeing if the redhead's arrived before you, but you only found someone that didn't have green eyes or the correct jawline...jawline? Why were you so focused on her features? You shook it off and went in, the smell of freshly baked pizza in the air.
Voices of people talking filled your hearing, and your feet took a few bit more steps until you get to an empty corner table, beside it, a window. The place was lively, but it was almost a light, joyous atmosphere.
You sat down, getting yourself comfortable as you looked around the area, up until a server gives you the menu, making you look up to the person, giving a smile and saying a 'thank you' before going over the meals written down.
Nearly everything looked delicious, but you try your best to take notes as to which one you would order, along with your drink.
When you heard the bell of the door opening from the entrance of the restaurant, you turn your head, but it wasn't someone you were expecting, so you purse your lips and look back down on the menu, only to grab your phone to check the time.
It showed 2:00 PM, exactly. There was still time anyway, and why would she leave you hanging? You scroll on your phone for a bit, catching up on the media and everything.
Just as you were about to open your messages, you see a shadow and a presence beside you. You look up, and see green eyes staring back at you, her red hair perfectly framing her face as she had her hands in the pockets of her leather jacket.
"Oh, hi," you say, nearly quietly as you leaned back slightly, feeling she was a little close. But in fact, she wasn't at all, your body was just moving in instinct.
"Hey," she said, moving to settle in the seat in front of you, a hint of a smile on her lips while she kept her gaze on you.
"Sorry if I'm a little late," her hand places her phone on the table while she shifted to get more comfortable. You return her small smile, hoping to ease any worries she had.
"It's okay. Nearly got worried you weren't going to come though." You didn't know why those words came out your mouth. They were supposed to stay in your head, but it just happened.
"Don't worry about that," She rested her arms on the table, leaning forward slightly. She mirrored your form, your own arms folded against the plastic covered menu.
"I would've texted you if I couldn't come," she reassures you gently, taking the menu you slid over to her side, and it almost calmed your nervous heart.
"What do you wanna order?" You ask, seeing how her eyes scanned the menu, concentrated on each word. Then you try to keep your gaze elsewhere, trying to not stare.
The quiet silence was only filled by the sounds of the restaurant, the clattering of the kitchen and the noise of laughter echoing from the other side of the room.
"I'll take...a pepperoni pizza. We can share, if you want," she said slowly, looking back up at you. Both of you knew neither of you could finish a single pizza by yourselves.
"Sure," Your lips raise up and you nod, taking the menu back from her and calling up the waiter. When they arrive, you order the pizza along with your drink, not forgetting to then ask her about her drink of choice. She orders it easily, and the waiter repeats your order to make sure it was right. When it was, they step back, taking the menu back with them.
She looks back to you, and you almost hesitantly bring your eyes to meet hers. It was almost like she was a magician, able to make your heart rate go higher with just a single look while everyone else disappeared. That damned stare.
"So, what brought you here to New York?" She finally speaks up, her hand fiddling slightly on the sleeve of her leather jacket, but she soon stops when she realizes she's doing it.
"Oh, I..." You utter out, taken aback at the question. It was a simple one, really, but not an easy one to answer. You take in a breath, trying to gather your thoughts.
"Well, thing is, I was um...moving out of..." You start slowly and quietly, wondering if you should actually even share such a thing. What would it hurt anyway? She waits patiently, her eyes searching your face for your thoughts.
"...my ex's apartment. a few weeks ago." You finish, talking a little faster and unfolding your arms as you felt it getting warmer.
"I see," She whispered under her breath with a nod in understanding, looking to your arms. She was going to say something else, knowing it needed a change of topic, but you add another sentence first.
"It's fine, I'm getting through it," You say with a purse of your lips. That was the second lie you've said today. Why were you counting? You didn't know. She tilted her head, but it didn't seem like it held any judgement.
When she didn't say anything, you spoke softly. "You have any hobbies?" You were trying your best to seem normal, as if you weren't panicking on the inside.
She thinks it over, her eyes slowly moving across the table to gather her words.
"...I like taking pictures." When the sentence comes out her mouth, your eyes widened slightly in surprise and shined.
"Ooh, professional, or just like casual?" You say with a bit of excitement, leaning forward. Nat chuckles softly at your interest, sinking deeper into a cozy conversation.
"Casually. Things like the sunset or just scenery. I'm not a portrait type person," she shrugs lightly, her lips raising up a little more with her smile, and you almost couldn't take your eyes off of it.
"I used to do photography. Sunsets, too, or just random people outside from faraway, but...I don't know, I slowly just stopped," you said yourself, remembering your own passion from back then.
She hums, giving you a gentle gaze. "It seems like that's something we should work on then," She suggested, as if to gently push you to dust off your old hobbies.
"Do you do anything else?" Her voice was soft, and the words started to form a little more natural in your head.
"I like collecting. Physical copies of music and stuff." You sat a little more upright, although still comfortable. The sun got brighter outside, shining down through the restaurant windows.
"Like what?" She replied in curiosity, but her appearance was calm. Her eyes shined slightly from the sunlight, and her orange hair glowed.
"Cassettes, CDs, vinyls, kind of, but they hurt my bank so I took a pause on that." You chuckle slightly, your head moving with your words.
"I have some cassettes, but I don't listen to them as much as I should," She said, and you could've sworn you were imagining the tinge of red crossing her face.
"I definitely need to see your collection." You said eagerly, and her eyes widen, possibly worried about her music taste.
"Oh, no, they're probably old and dusty...I--" She shook her head, and your smile grew, but before she could go any further, you spoke gently.
"It won't hurt." At your sentence, her shoulders went down slightly in defeat.
"Well, if you insist." She smiled once more. It felt nearly unnatural to her, but she couldn't help it. You didn't have a thought at all about it, other than simply thinking she was absolutely gorgeous.
"...What's your favorite animal?" Right as you asked the question, your food and drinks arrive, making you lean back to let the waiter put it all on the table. Once it was done, you set your arms back on the wooden table once more.
She hums. She'd never thought about having favorite things. Especially not 'silly things' such as animals. "I like cats." You raise your eyebrows just a little, your heart getting lighter as time passed by.
"A cat person. I can see that about you." Your eyes roam her face, watching how her slightly curly hair move and how she had just raised her own eyebrow with a small smirk.
"Oh, really? And what else do you see?" She asked casually, but it did have a hint of teasing. You had two choices. And you went with the one that was right to you.
"Someone kind." At that, Natasha nearly freezes, her eyes blinking as if she was in shock. You tilt your head at her, but she moves again by diverting her eyes to the window, her face natural once more.
"What about you? Your favorite animal, I mean." She said, quickly adding in the last part of her sentence as she gestured her hand to you. Your teeth sunk gently into your lip as you tried to resist yourself from having your smile widen even more.
"I like orcas." You say, nearly with a small voice, and she found it adorable. Her curiosity piqued up further though, her mind thinking about the sea animal.
"...Orcas. They are beautiful creatures." She said, her eyes elsewhere in almost a longing way.
"You know, I once saw an orca swimming near the coastline." She adds, and instantly, she sees the way your face brightened up with happiness and interest, a gasp coming out your mouth.
"Where?" You asked, and she chuckled softly. As if you weren't already happy at her mentioning that she's seen an orca, the sound of her raspy yet gentle laugh warmed your heart.
"Long island." She said at first, her head filled with her memories. She was sitting near the shore, up near the mountains all alone, having been reading a book.
"Here," she pulls out her phone and opens her gallery, finding her photos and videos of the moment she had captured, showing it to you.
You were absolutely mesmerized, your eyes kept on the video upon her phone. Her green eyes in the meanwhile, keep themselves on your features, admiring exactly how happy you looked.
The meetup goes on like this, a comfortable atmosphere, shared smiles and small laughter. You've never had a conversation flow so naturally with someone before. It was like you were in a dream, and you had nearly forgotten about anything else that had happened to you
Afterwards, you say your goodbyes, content with the time you spent. You had grabbed the chocolate croissant for Kate from the bakery, needing to trace your steps back when you had forgotten, but relief flowing through when you remembered once more.

August 12, 2008.
Magritte had only ever heard good things about Vancouver's Granville Island and so, naturally, it was the first place she set out to find upon arriving in the city. The Greyhound station her bus pulled into had been only a short walk from the Skytrain that would carry her two minutes to Granville Station. And it was here that Magritte had the good sense to find a nice, unintrusive space to sit cross-legged and lay her old, faithful piano keyboard across her lap.
The instrument, pulled out of its cozy bed from within her large duffel bag, was a well loved Yamaha PSS-270. Its dull, black, plastic body was covered in ancient, disintegrating stickers, and a generous amount of electrical tape served to hold its batteries in place.
With an affectionate press of a button, she woke the machine up from its slumber, selected her choice presets and, with no specific setlist in mind, began to improvise a little tune. Something cute and fun, perhaps a little bit like Donkey Kong’s Stickerbrush Symphony in tempo and progression. Or just…”Stickerbrush Symphony”, wholesale, why the hell not? Improvisation melted seamlessly into the classic video game tunes that were fondly familiar to her.
The beloved instrument cradled in Magritte’s lap had been pulled apart and reassembled more times than she kept track of. But still, it held together and played its charming FM sounds dutifully. A tidy row of silver metal switches, lined up along the side of its body, were left carefully undisturbed as her fingers danced across the yellowed plastic keys. Magritte had learned very early in her busking career that the general public did not appreciate the unpredictable discordinance of a bent circuit as much as she did. And so that row of silver little switches connecting the data lines stood stoically in their ‘on’ position, not allowing for any delightful surprises, but also not deteriorating the synth-chip’s sound into glitchy noise on a bad turn. Perfectly vanilla, perfectly agreeable, endearingly nostalgic.
She had placed an old ball cap upside down infront of her, tossing in a few quarters of her own as a way of inviting more from friendly pockets. Ideally, she’d play an hour or two and leave with enough change to buy a coffee. Not just a Tim’s coffee–no. She wanted a decadent foamy latte from a cute, artsy little cafe she could sit in. She couldn’t bear to walk through the streets of Granville Island without having the spare change to treat herself on an impulse. And so–she’d not leave the train station until the passing public funded her frivolous spending habits.
After all, it was her birthday. She deserved a little gift.
Busking in a transit station was always a bit of a trade-off. It was a bustling place full of foot traffic but the people here were focused on reaching their destination; busy and preoccupied. In a place like this, Magritte had no expectation to captivate loiterers. Not many transit-goers could spare a minute or two to sit and listen while she hammered out her cheap little tunes on cheap little piano keys. And so, when a well worn pair of tan colored, loose-laced Timberlands entered her field of vision, stopping definitively to stand before her, Magritte turned her gaze upward to welcome the listener with a wide, sloppy smile.
Without giving her brain time to register the face she was speaking to, Magritte opened her mouth to chime a cheery greeting. She was cut off faster than she could process his expression.
  “You’re in my spot.”
The man’s voice was curt, and the cold annoyance in his tone was mirrored in the expression on his short, square face. Pale blue eyes looked down a sharp, slightly bent nose at her. His narrow lips were pressed narrower still in a stern line, framed by a full, sandy colored beard and moustache. Atop his head, long hair of the same light color was pulled back into a small, tight bun; more slick and tidy, but far less full than the sloppy bun that Magritte’s unruly mane of curly rust colored hair had been wrangled up into.
Her dorky smirk dissolved with a few confused blinks into a slack jaw of nervous apology. “O-oh! I uh-s-sorry!”
Her startled gaze snagged itself on the acoustic guitar slung over his shoulder, and the instrument’s exciting potential made her straighten her back with intent.
She found her smile again. “What if–maybe we could jam? For a few minutes! And then I can scoot on outta here and leave you to it if you want. It’s been a long time since I’ve had the chance to–”
“Do you have a permit?” His tone was unchanged by her eager proposition.
“Huh?” It wasn’t that Magritte didn’t hear him, but she needed a moment to process what was being asked.
“You can’t be here without a permit. Not the stations, not anywhere in Granville either.” The unaccommodating man took a few steps towards her duffel bag and used the top of his foot to lift and slide it away from where she had safely tucked it. “Get a move on.”
Magritte protectively reached out to grab her bag as the man carelessly footed it out of ‘his’ space. And in doing so, she caused her keyboard to slide off her lap, forcing her to clumsily abort her duffel-grabbing effort in favor of clutching her instrument before it could somersault over the edge of her knees and land face-down onto hard ground.
The man, it seemed, was done with words and had already begun moving into the small space that shoving her bag out of the way had created. She felt her face turn hot as she began to gather up her items. Any desire to engage the guy more than she already had was lost along with her nerve.
As she relented to stowing her keyboard back into her duffel bag, an unfamiliar hand shoved a cold, unopened can of Coke in front of her face.
“Here you go.” Another man’s voice. A softer one, this time. Magritte glanced up to meet eyes with the stranger who was offering her a free drink, only to gaze into a pair of red, plastic, star shaped dollar store sunglasses.
He gave the soda can a little shake, prompting her to take it into her hands. “Sorry I took long, I had to give someone directions to the aquarium.”
“Is this…for me?” Holding the can in both hands, Magritte stared at the unopened beverage, unsure what to do with it.
The new stranger leaned onto his back foot. “You said coke, right?”
Before Magritte could stammer out a response, the new stranger turned his attention to the man with the guitar. “‘Ey, Kurtis. You mind, dude?”
The unaccommodating man, ‘Kurtis’, had just started settling in, and looked towards the new stranger with an expression that appeared as perplexed as Magritte herself felt. He turned up both his palms in a slightly contentious gesture. “Didn’t know you were playin’ here again. I’ve had this spot for, like, a year. People don’t usually park here without asking me first.”
“Okay, but you can’t just kick ‘em out like this, man.”
“I didn’t know she was with you–”
“Doesn’t matter,” Magritte’s new best friend replied. “Sixty minutes. It’s not a long time to wait if you gotta wait.”
Magritte, who had been watching Kurtis’ confidence slowly drain from his body with each passing second, turned to examine the cut of her spontaneous new accomplice. His hair was a shade or two darker than Kurtis’, and trimmed much, much shorter, with longer locks in front that fell in straight tufts over the tops of his ears and just past his thick, blocky eyebrows. His eyes remained obscured by the cheap plastic shades, and their childish novelty paired strangely with the well trimmed goatee that fanned out from under his lip to define the curve of his somewhat long but gentle chin. And he had with him a rectangular instrument case of…some variety. Not big enough for a guitar, not small enough for a flute. It didn’t give away the shape of the instrument inside, but the black oxford cloth and gold colored metallic detailings of its exterior gave it a classy, charming look she had not seen for an instrument case before. It was cute. Magritte wondered if such a style was available for portable keyboards.
His hands, which wore white fingerless driving gloves, cracked open his can of sprite, and he took a casual sip while waiting for Kurtis to, “Get a move on.”
Relenting, Kurtis shuffled away from the spot he had been deliberately crowding Magritte out of. With a snort and a nod of his head towards her, Kurtis said, “Can’t exactly play Paganini on a Portasound, Raf. What’s on your setlist?”
Raf brandished a lopsided smirk and jutted his chin in the direction of Magritte’s upturned hat on the ground. “Put a toonie down and I’ll show you.”
“Fuck off.” Kurtis’s scoff was accompanied by a laugh–one that sounded surprisingly genuine to Magritte's ear. “I came here to earn change, not spend it. But I’m curious to hear how the Ephrem Classical pairs with Toy Piano.”
Raf let out a low groan that could have been mistaken for a growl. Moving into the corner that Kurtis had surrendered, he unslung his instrument off his shoulder with a shrug. “There’s plenty you can play on just forty-nine keys.”
Being very confident about this fact, Magritte couldn’t help but provide her insight on the matter. With an enthusiastic lean-in, she interjected, “Yeah, like Kirby’s Dreamland!”
Raf’s head flinched in her direction almost imperceptibly, and if she had caught the subtle downward twitch of his eyebrows that betrayed a pang of confusion, she might have felt a bite of embarrassment. But instead, she heard him agree. “Like…Kirby’s Dreamland, yeah.”
He turned to look over his shoulder at her, his sunglasses mercifully hiding the bafflement in his eyes. Magritte beamed gleefully back up at him.
“Well, have fun.” Kurtis levelled a stern yet somewhat pleading glance at Raf.” I’ll be back here in an hour. Don’t let anyone else move in if you leave early, please.”
Raf simply shrugged and sipped loudly from his can of sprite in response.
As Magritte watched Kurtis disappear into the foot traffic, she began to tentatively scoot back towards where she had previously sat. “I didn’t mind giving that guy his spot back, he was just kinda–”
“A dick. Nah, I saw that. S’why I stepped in.” Raf had carefully set his instrument case down, and was in the process of zipping it open.
Leaning slightly to get a peek at what he was playing, Magritte said, “Thanks for the pop, by the way! I can pay you back after. If uh–you’re actually gonna stick around and jam with me.”
He pulled his instrument out of its protective cradle; a pale varnished wooden violin. “Don’t worry about it.”
Inside the carrying case, Magritte noticed two bows neatly stowed. The bowstrings on the bow Raf selected was a standard white color, but the strings on the one he left in the case were an eye-catching red.
“Truth be told,” tucking the chin rest of the violin beneath his chin, he played one string, and then two experimentally, “I don’t really play anymore.” His fingers closed around one of the tuning knobs at the head of the violin, but if he had tweaked it at all, it wasn't perceptible. “So it’s gonna be pretty rough. But uh…gotta commit to the bit, I guess.”
Magritte took the moment to open her soda and enjoy a refreshing sip. “What kinda music do you normally play?”
“Classical,” he replied almost too quickly. “You?”
Magritte hesitated for a second. She should have had an easy answer for this by now, but all she could manage was, “a bit of everything. Anything, really!”
Raf ran his bow over the strings again to hear their tune before turning to look at her. “Yeah?” His eyebrows were raised, and his smirk favored one side of his face; an expression Magritte interpreted as incredulous. He fidgeted with a tiny, lone knob on the violin's body where the strings ended.
“Y-yeah! I, um…” Settling her keyboard back into her lap, she turned it on. “You can just play whatever, and I can fill it in. I can improvise, I think.”
Raf paused and stared down at Magritte’s little Portasound with a sigh much heavier than he intended. The thing was lacking, not just in keys, but in sound. It was a struggle to think of something he could play that she’d be able to accompany. The titles which did come to mind where…overplayed and would have to be simplified considerably to suit the keyboard's limitations. Weighing it in his mind, however, he decided that ‘simple’ may benefit not just the limited range of her instrument, but of her musical skill as well.
He ran the bow over his strings to measure their tune one last time before tentatively, very slowly playing the first few crystalline notes of Für Elise. He felt a tension he didn’t know he was holding melt off his shoulders as he watched Magritte’s face light up. She curled over her little piano in a hurry to play his accompaniment. She knew this one.
She picked a soft, more ambient sound from the keyboard’s voicebank, electing to quietly cushion the violin’s notes rather than chafe against them. It was…difficult. Her little yamaha and its quaint library of FM chip sounds did not get along nicely with ‘real instruments’ that were being played ‘straight’. It wanted to be weird and annoying, just like her. But the notes Raf played, while simple, were extremely clear in tone; neat and tidy. The bow did not once stutter on the rough strings, it glided with practised ease. And with a great deal of restraint.
This guy…he was playing beneath his skill level. For her sake, presumably. Like a gentleman.
As Raf brought Für Elise to a close with the last, steady draw of his bow, Magritte swapped her soft, ambient voicing out with an annoying music box sound, and began hammering out a choice section from the 3rd movement of Appassionata. Her fingers slammed the keys harder than was necessary, solely because she enjoyed the percussive sound it added to each obnoxious, feverish note.
Lowering his violin, Raf watched Magritte’s fingers flutter furiously across the mini keys with respectable precision. Holding both the bow and the neck of his violin in one hand, his free hand reached up to remove his sunglasses and he rubbed his eye with the heel of his palm. A humbled snort escaped through his nose. “Yeah, okay.”
“Play any song.” Magritte slowed her fingers to a stop without completing the movement. “Even if I don’t know it, even if it goes beyond the range of my little piano, I can improvise something nice for it, I promise!”
Fitting his sunglasses back on, Raf let out a tentative hum. “I’m not much of an improviser–”
“You don’t have to improvise anything! Play whatever you want, however you wanna play it. I will improvise around whatever you give me!” Magritte’s voice had risen to an excited shout, and instinctively, she withdrew into herself just a little bit, as if making herself smaller would also make her voice smaller, too. “It’s my favorite thing to do. It’s a lot of fun.”
His incredulous smirk returned, but this time his brow furrowed slightly, encouragingly, under his growing sense of intrigue.
“It’s–” Magritte held up both hands haltingly, “it’s probably not gonna be like how you know it should be. Just…so you know. It might even be…bad? In some parts? But-! Mostly it’ll be neat! I promise!”
“Neat…” Raf brought the violin up once again to rest under his chin. “Neat’s cool. Alright, let’s see, then.”
As though he had been inspired by Magritte’s aggressive interpretation of Appassionata, he began with a series of fast, chirpy, clean notes of his own. A wholly different song, but Magritte recognized this one too. She had most often heard it as a phone ringtone, but she couldn’t recall who composed it nor what the song was titled. She provided a jaunty, equally bouncy accompaniment that she’d have described as ‘percussive’. The violin’s unwavering confidence was a delight for Magritte’s deft little fingers to dance around. He never fell out of tempo, and she was able to punctuate his notes with hers in perfect time. Maintaining synchrony for the entire length of the fast paced composition filled her with such satisfying joy, she had failed to properly appreciate an obvious fact about her musical accomplice until he brought the song to a close; he was a skilled musician.
Staring up at him from her spot on the floor, Magritte’s wide eyes almost sparkled with delight. “You’re like…Concert hall good, aren’t you? Are you part of the local orchestra? Or at least like–aspiring to be?”
Raf’s gaze hung on her as both his jaw and posture slackened. “Uh…”
She didn’t give him enough time to respond, hitting him with another question. “What was the title of that song? I just know it as one of the Nokia ringtones.”
“P–” Raf’s stunned silence cracked with a laugh that sprang forth from his chest and took him by surprise almost as much as Magritte’s line of questioning had. “Paganini. It’s–it’s Paganini, Caprice number…number 24.” The response was punctuated with warm chuckling. “Or, you know, that one phone ringtone, yeah.” He smirked at her for a moment longer, studying her for any sign that she was putting him on. “How do you…accompany me that well, on that little machine, and not even know the song?”
Magritte waved her hands in front of her. “No, no, I knew the song! I’ve heard it before, I just didn’t know what it was called.”
“Yeah, alright.” He snorted one last incredulous laugh and brought his violin back up for another song.
Magritte stopped him before he could settle on his next pick. “Do you play professionally? I mean, it sounds like it but, like–”
“No.” Before Magritte could inquire further, the first notes of their next song filled the space between them, drawn out of his violin with long, purposeful strokes of his bow.
The next several songs, Raf played seamlessly one into the other–without pausing for conversation. That was just as well for Magritte. It had been ages since she was given the chance to play music with someone, and never had she played with someone who was so…solid? Consistent? The real deal. Usually, she had to avoid getting carried away when playing with another person. It was very easy for her to close her eyes and get taken to places that her musical partners could not follow along with. But with Raf, she was finding herself challenged to keep up with him. Most of the songs he had chosen, she had not heard before. And so she needed to keep an attentive ear out if she wanted to pick out repeated phrases, and predict melodic trajectories.
Finally, they arrived at the end of an especially eclectic piece, and Raf did not immediately follow through into another composition. Instead he lowered his bow, and Magritte took her opening to converse again.
“I really liked that one. It was super janky, in a fun way.”
“Yeah,” Raf said. “I was always fond of it, too.”
“I liked the plucky bits. Did you write it?”
“Did I–” Raf palmed both his bow and violin in one hand, and massaged his eyes and browline with the other. “No, some guy named Ravel did. Tzigane, that one’s called.”
Magritte chewed the inside of her cheek. “R-right.”
He furrowed his eyebrows at her. “You knew that one, though.”
  “I didn’t.”
“...You just let me solo the first four minutes based on vibes?”
“I thought I missed the bus on it.”
“The actual composition has no accompaniment until about half way through, so…bravo.”
“Wait, really?” Magritte leaned forward eagerly. “Did I play the accompaniment correctly, too?”
  “Not even close.”
  “Drat.” She slumped.
“Was good, though.” Raf picked up his sprite from where he had placed it, on the ground next to his case, and drained the last bit of its contents.
  Magritte perked up again. “Yeah!?”
He held the lip of the empty can between his teeth as he began tucking his violin back into its carrying case. “Mmhm.”
Magritte watched him pack up for a moment longer than it should have taken her to realise, “Wait, you’re leaving already?”
Raf zipped his instrument safely away before removing the empty soda can from his mouth. “Yeah, I gotta get going. But look,” He bent over to collect Magritte’s upturned ball cap off the ground. The few quarters she had started with now had a generous handful of friends with them; more quarters, some loonies, a few toonies and–
Magritte accepted the hat when Raf handed it to her, and pulled a crisp twenty dollar bill out of it. “W-who left this!? I wasn’t even paying attention, I should have said thanks!”
“A mystery.” He slung his violin case over his shoulder.
Magritte urged him to wait, fluttering a hand at him. “Half of this is yours!”
“Nah.” He favored her with a smile. “Genuinely, this was a treat in itself. It’s been a long time since I’ve played for fun like this. It…was fun.” That last part sounded as though it came as a surprise to him.
Frowning, Magritte pleaded with him. “Okay, okay but–okay. Lemme treat you to a coffee then, at least? If you’re in no real hurry.”
Raf paused to regard her with a measuring stare. He then sighed and shoved his hands into the pockets of his black denim hoodie jacket, waiting for Magritte to stow her keyboard away into her bag.
Zipping the duffel closed, she hoisted it with effort over her shoulder and beamed up at her new friendly acquaintance. “If you know any cute, cozy coffee places with a real decadent latte, I’m open to suggestions!”
  “There are…a few.”
“I’m Magritte, by the way!” She extended her hand out to him.
With slight hesitation, Raf shook it. “Rafael.”
As the two of them began to make their way out of the station together, he dared to ask, “Are you here visiting, or..?”
“Oh!” She bounced on the balls of her feet, “I just came in from Calgary like…two hours ago. Ideally, I’d like to stay until the spring, but that’s gonna depend on things.”
  “Calgary?”
“Yeah! I was in Edmonton before that, and in Winnipeg before that–but that was mostly a fever dream. I wasn’t there long. Montreal before that, though, was nice..!” She talked the entire walk, and he was content to quietly listen. part ii

WARM SMILES & HOT COCOA FT. KAZUHA contents // meet-cute, reminiscing on memories, blooming est. relationship, strangers to friends to lovers, feminine reader masterlist
if there was any season, you'll ask kazuha which he'd liked the most, he would pick winter in an instant. although, if you asked him before dating him, he would say autumn. he would clarify first that he loves every season, but autumn is his favorite because of the weather being not too hot or too cold and how the leaves are crunchy.
you've asked since the season your boyfriend would always reply with was autumn. it was his go-to season. so when it was a sudden change you wanted to ask why and why did he say "you have changed my brain chemistry!"
who taught him this???
finding it strange, you thought otherwise but he insisted that you did. you snorted quietly as kazuha persistently asked you why you reacted that way. "it's because you've liked autumn for so long, i don't understand why you would change it all the sudden." kazuha wrinkled his nose a little out of confusion, sitting down on the brown couch as you draped a blanket over him.
he kept you closer to him, eventually, you were pulled into his lap as he replied, "not because of how much it snowed so you could build a snowman and catch the snowflakes on your tongue. nor the reason to ice skate or drink hot cocoa without looking crazy. it was the season when i met you."
you hid your small smile into kazuha's neck, he could feel the smile against his skin. "why are you hiding your face from me? my beautiful girlfriend?"
"stop being corny, kazuha."
"sweetheart, im not being 'corny', im being honest."
˚₊ ❄︎ (flashback)
today was a disaster not only it started to snow, your blind date, which hu tao went out of her way to set up, stood you up. now you're freezing your butt off in the snow that's at least two or more inches tall, thankfully, there was a bookstore next door. trudging in the snow, the windows displayed books littered around all over two white shelves on both sides. if you could, you would just admire and stare at the display choosing which book you'd read but it's not the time nor place for it.
the bell rang when a blonde guy opened the engraved oak door for you, you thanked him as he walked behind you. a gust of warm air hits your ruddy cheeks, you felt as if heaven came to you just to kiss you with warmth. you stood on the outskirts of the bookstore, shaking off the snow off of you. leaving the small cluster of snow in a corner, you walked through the bookshelves filled room. as the overhead lights set a warm setting, you went to the cafe that was placed in a corner of the bookstore. it was basically like a barnes & nobles.
although your spirits about your blind date shattered into pieces, this barista at the cafe somehow revived not only your pride but also your heart. "hello, miss, welcome to the cozy corner cafe, as you can see, we are placed in the corner of the store." he nervously laughed at his own joke. even though, it wasn't really funny, you laughed along too.
he visibly relaxed as he continued to speak, "what would you have today?"
"um, this is such a hard choice," you looked briefly at the menu, which was, written on the chalkboard. maybe a tad too tiny. should you go basic and say a hot chocolate? or something else to energize you like a coffee?
"miss, if you're having a bad time trying to choose then tell me what you like and i'll try to concoct a drink for you."
"i don't know about that." you replied, tapping your foot lightly out of sheer anxiety. "sure, you're cute but how would i know if you wouldn't throw a 'potion' in there." you have no idea what the hell you're saying, this guy is so cute and you feel like you're fumbling.
thankfully, he didn't make a comment on the potion joke, his ears turned a slight shade of red, "you can trust me. if you don't like it, you can order something else and i'd throw a cookie on the house."
letting out an exhale, you questioned, "on the house? really..." you squinted at the namecard plaque. "... kazuha?"
"yes, really."
"if you say so... i like my drinks a tad bit sweet but not kid in a candy store sweet, you know? just something warm."
"okay, one mystery drink for a cute girl coming right up."
˚₊ ❄︎ (end of flashback; present time)
even though some of the parts of your point of view of the story was true. that wasn't how kazuha had seen it.
you pulled away from his neck, "what do you mean it didn't happen that way?"
"because it didn't!" kazuha insisted.
˚₊ ❄︎ (flashback)
when kazuha was restocking the romance section of the bookstore, his friend, heizou, pulled him into the cafe's region. "kazuha, it's your shift."
kazuha wrinkled his nose in confusion as heizou grabbed kazuha's apron from the back. tossing the fabric to kazuha, in which, he caught.
"what? i didn't have a shift at the cafe today?" suddenly a light bulb was lit above him as heizou sheepishly hid his face. "...wow okay, pushing me to do your job, aren't you."
˚₊ ❄︎ (end of flashback; present time)
"okaay," you said, interrupting kazuha's storytime. "obviously, i wouldn't know this part of the story."
"i know but this is backstory and for context!"
"okay, okay, continue."
˚₊ ❄︎ (flashback cont)
heizou cried, kazuha thinks that he could even see tears starting to form, "im late to my blind date, dude!" the brunet nervously laughed. "it started at 2. it's freaking 3 right now."
kazuha snorted quietly, "so your date thinks you stood her up."
heizou placed his hands on his head, stressing out a little, "...yes and our mutual friend even planned it out. think of that one romance book but me and a pretty girl next to me."
kazuha rolled his eyes as he tied the apron's strings behind him, "why would a pretty girl be with you?"
the green eyed guy rolled his eyes, "ok, kazuha, but seriously, i gotta go. i didn't know restocking books would be so long." that was because he never memorized how to do it more efficiently.
"ok but like who would fill in my spot at the register?" the cafe is owned by their friend named kokomi and since it was winter season, she strategized to have her conventionally attractive employees not only to attract more customers being eye candy but also, she had a soft spot for meet cutes. "did you even tell kokomi you had a date today."
"umm thoma and no..."
"this is completely on you. but yes, ill fill in your spot as long as you can get thoma here." kazuha replied as heizou frantically gets his phone from his pocket, texting the assumingly blonde.
"done, he says hes on the way." kazuha nodded as heizou quickly grabbed his coat from the back, dashing out of the door. by the time the door's bell rang, thoma arrived and so did a new customer.
---
as kazuha was prepping for another customer's drink, they asked for helpful yet oddly detailed drink. it was something with peppermint, vanilla pumps and something... something sweet flower extract? ok, maybe he forgot the order but if they like it regardless, it's a win. "the sweetest drink ever for..." he read out the name. "sucrose?"
a green haired girl walked up to him; a messenger bag filled to the brim with various books. one of the pockets of the bag had different bookmarks and little knickknackeries. she adjusted her glasses, taking the drink from kazuha's hand, "thank you, um, kazuha?"
"no problem, sucrose. please come again!"
then the most beautiful girl he ever laid his eyes on walked into the cafe, a little soaked from the snow from outside. just one look from her and his heart would be out of his chest. oh, wait, she did... oh GOD, kazuha's heart is gone, leaping out of his chest, simply dissipating as you bore into his eyes. oh god, he thought, i think her beauty gave me an instant lobotomy.
as his heart jumped back into his button up covered chest, as it tried to cause a resurrection to his brain, he opted for automatic mode, "pret-" he cleared his throat. oh my god, i almost blurted out "pretty girl". he winced at himself a little. "hello, miss, welcome to the cozy corner cafe, as you can see, we are placed in the corner of the store." maybe, reviving back his brain wasn't a good choice.
he nervously laughed at his own joke, oh my god, this is the worst. i am fumbling! he thought as he frantically needed to put his hands to work. grabbing a cup from the stack and waiting for you to say your order but thankfully, you laughed at his joke too.
"um, this is kind of hard?"
kazuha was trying his best to "ball" out his embarrassment but also wanting to talk to you more, "miss, if you're having a bad time trying to choose then tell me what you like and i'll try to concoct a drink for you."
noticing you fidget a little, he instantly knew he just fumbled right there. please don't leave, please don't leave
"i don't know about that." you replied, tapping your foot lightly out of sheer anxiety. "sure, you're cute but how would i know if you wouldn't throw a 'potion' in there."
oh my god, she called me cute. he hoped you couldn't tell that he's now raditating with pure joy, his ears flushed a little. as for your joke, he was assuming a "potion" would be like poison, kazuha tried to reassure you, "you can trust me. if you don't like it, you can order something else and i'd throw a cookie on the house."
letting out an exhale, you questioned, "on the house? really..." you squinted at the namecard plaque. "... kazuha?"
she knows my name!!
"yes, really."
"if you say so... i like my drinks a tad bit sweet but not kid in a candy store sweet, you know? just something warm."
"okay, one mystery drink for a cute girl coming right up." he turned around after saying that, praying you didn't cringe like he did when he realized he just said that. peeking to the other side, you didn't!!! you were just as flustered as he was.
he quietly whispered to himself, "A WIN!!"
˚₊ ❄︎ (end of flashback; present time)
after hearing kazuha's side of the story, you get why he change his favorite season from autumn to winter. you had heard that before you even want to change your favorite season from (fav season) to winter. just kidding, luckily, your initial fav season has been winter so beat that kazuha!
"wait, heizou had a blind date and supposedly stood them up?" you asked as kazuha squinted to the side, trying to remember.
"yes, he did."
"oh my god, remember when i said that my blind date stood me up?"
"well, sorry to admit it, but im glad." you chuckled as he tried to explain himself. "'cause if he didn't, i wouldn't have had the most wonderful, out of this world, running out of words to say to describe you because your beauty if indescribable girlfriend and don't you dare call me corny for speaking my truth!"
