new @wrongpublishing chapbook is so good<33 a couple beautiful lyric essays abt filipino/marginalised queerness and gender; about self-exile/quarantine/isolation; about porn addiction. everything read like a poem-essay-literature review. i liked it! the specificity worked with me—i felt drawn in, saw and was seen. definite rec.
only available in print rn from what ive seen; CA$17 years with discounts available. discounted chapbook collection (5 books, CA$67) also available💜💜

I published a poetry chapbook about dealing with religious trauma and compulsory heterosexuality last year, and I dedicated it to my fiancée who I get to marry later this year. Here’s the dedication:
Tumblr media
My fiancée is still a part of the religion we both grew up in while I am not. Despite our differing spiritual beliefs, we love and respect each other. She is the Aziraphale to my Crowley and I am so grateful for her support and love while I worked on this project.
Thank you to Terry Pratchett and @neil-gaiman for creating such a wonderful story—with complex, relatable characters—that helped me work through some of the negative experiences I had with religion. ❤️
P.S. The chapbook I wrote is called Religious Trauma in the Key of Poetry and it is available from Bottlecap Press if anyone is interested in checking it out. 😊✨

current mood: waning crescent
(from my upcoming sapphic poetry chapbook, The Orange and Pink Sunset)
I wax and wane like the moon, rise and fall with the tide— each season ushers in a new version of me, happy, sad, manic, depressive— and though I’m not sure why, you love each phase, which says more about how generous you are than about how lovable I am.

Flight
countless years
an adult lifetime spent
huddling in a lightless pit
dug by my own hands
a prison with bars
crafted from my fears
surer than steel
darker than despair
none came to rescue me
but they sat vigil
waiting for me to emerge
no hands pulled me out
but they reached out
waiting for me to grab on
when I awoke
moving from stasis
the grandiosity of life
overwhelmed my senses
I had learned to move but
ran screaming
from the joyous vigilant
ran screaming
from the kind hands
ran screaming
from hearts that touched mine
ran screaming
from my deeper self
inhabiting with calmness
breathing with sagacity
this unfettered world
skills I have yet to achieve
but there is a trick to
harnessing the move-by-wire
system of a traumatized soul
shifting the flow of its
kinetic panic
and now I run screaming
towards shared joy
run screaming
towards kindness
run screaming
towards unknowable hearts
run screaming
towards my treasures
fear still pulls
my eyes screwed shut
but I run regardless
my body senses
the cliffs of Mount Desert Island
slick granite and
Ellsworth Schist
fifteen foot fog masking
the Atlantic roar
like staring into
the periphery of the world
staring into
infinite possibilities
staring into
the ugliest of your inner truths
staring into
the face of a god
and I do not slow, I
leap
heartfirst
and feel it touch
down upon another cliff
again I leap, and
again, and realize
if I just keep leaping
from abyssal cliffs
it is almost
like flying

⚠️Trigger Warning - Post includes heavy discussions and implied references to child abuse, sexual assault, mental illness and other difficult topics. Do not read if you’re not in the right headspace- it isn’t worth your well-being.
So, last semester I wrote a chapbook (short book of poetry) for a writing class of mine. I don’t know if I’ll ever pursue publishing it anywhere, but I posted quite a few rough drafts here and wanted to share if anyone wanted to read.
Thank you for checking it out if you decide to :)

if you were to ask me to write a poem about my identity i would give you scribbled notes
on the take home bulletins from my church
that would all share the same message
god hates me and his people do too,

Untitled
it is March now, but I am still coughing the harvests dirt from my lungs
in flecks now rather than clumps but it is still there
soon it will be replaced with spring soil, later with summer's ash
it seems I am doomed no matter where I go, cursed to continually swallow the earth like my tail
I came from her
I will return to her
this is merely interest

ANNOUNCING NEW QUEER POETRY
babes… i wrote a chapbook! 📖 i woke up one day and scrambled to meet a deadline i literally found at random on the internet. i sent my favorite works to a press in LA and… here we are!! if you need a stocking stuffer for that new lady friend of yours 👀 look no further! deadagain will capture the lesbian chaos and queer existential dread we all feel during holidays ❄️❄️❄️
deadagain is the first published work by Annie Conolly. It is a collection of poems, 35mm photos, and procreate drawings unintended to claim artistic identity. These poems fell out of moments lost in travel, sickness, or love. Written over a span of 10 years, these poems showcase the development of adaptability and emotional reckoning through the lens of queerness and gender exploration. Each image was curated in this collection by underlying threads of chaos, isolation, and caution. The title was inspired by a feeling of apophenia felt during the metamorphosis between careers.
As an experiment, deadagain aims to find the distinctions between artist and art. This art seems innately connected to its creator. However, this art does not evolve while its creator does. What is left between the stasis of publication and the life beyond its release? Pieced together slowly over 2023, this chapbook invites readers to seek out their hobbies and witness their unification into chaos.
Copies can be purchased through:
A Bottlecap Feature, Printed by Bottlecap Press in the United
States of America.
