•~• Some Basic Pumpkin Magic •~•

Even though July isn’t even over yet and autumn is not as near as I would like it to be, I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things in the world - pumpkins! I always love when these bad boys come around in the autumn, so to be prepared for the coming autumn months, I thought I’d make a little summary of some pumpkin associations and magic!

Colors

When we think of pumpkins, we tend to think of the color orange, which is associated with attraction, creativity, and new opportunities. But pumpkins can also be found in other colors, such as green, yellow, and white! If you want the general associations of a pumpkin but want to use a different kind of color magic, maybe look into the less iconic but still wonderful varieties of pumpkins.

Pumpkin Associations and Uses

Pumpkins are often associated with abundance and prosperity due to their large size and many, many, seeds. The seeds are also a feature that promotes new life and expansion. Pumpkins also tend to last long periods of time when not disturbed, so the expansion aspect of the seeds can be longer-term as the pumpkin itself can last longer.

Pumpkins are also ruled by the moon and their element is water. Doing spells and rituals regarding the moon and/or water can be amplified by the pumpkin’s natural associations with these things.

Pumpkins are also used to ward off evil and for spirit protection. Carving them into faces is a common tradition and they became used in what we know as a jack-o-lantern as a replacement for the traditional turnip. If you want to double up on the protection aspect, carve a sigil, rune, or other protective symbol into the pumpkin instead of a face.

Which also leads me to the time of year that these are around. Pumpkins are an autumnal plant and are heavily associated with harvest festivals and spiritual festivals. The most well known would be Mabon and Samhain, with our modern day Halloween coming from Samhain, thus the jack-o-lanterns at this time of year outside of the magical community.

Other Magical Uses

Aside from the jack-o-lantern spells, the most obvious and my personal favorite way to use pumpkins is kitchen magic. I have sweet pumpkin tea that I stir clockwise to attract abundance and prosperity. You can also use them in baking, such as a pumpkin pie, or regular cooking, such as pumpkin soups and stews. They work really well with spices. If you’re working on spiritual protection with the pumpkin, using cinnamon to enhance the protection properties. Also cinnamon and pumpkin is one of my all time favorite flavor combinations so it also tastes amazing!

The pumpkin’s physical characteristics can also be used in spells. Carve out your pumpkin and use it as a bowl or container for your spellwork.

And last on this post but definitely not the last way to use it is the drying of its seeds and using the seeds throughout your magical year. As mentioned, these seeds are great for new beginnings, and as they are connected to a moon associated plant, new moon spells and rituals of attracting abundance and new beginnings work really well when adding some pumpkin seeds.

Correspondence Spotlight: Pumpkin

For me personally, it's not spooky season without pumpkins. Here in the PNW, it's pretty common to see big piles of pumpkins outside of grocery stores from late September through the end of October. I'm not a big fan of doing the work of carving pumpkins, but my partner enjoys it, so we usually get at least one. Last year the one they carved with the triforce from Legend of Zelda got really gross and moldy after about two weeks of sitting out on our front porch, and I'm low-key convinced that it took the brunt of a hex or curse for us. (In previous years we left pumpkins out there for longer without them going slimy, so it felt a little weird)

Native to Central and North America, pumpkins are a great source of vitamin A and potassium, and every part of the pumpkin is edible. While pumpkin pie is probably the most popular way to use it, pumpkin breads and cakes are some of my favorite autumn treats to make. It can be used in savory dishes as well, mainly as soup or sauces.

The metaphyscial properties typically associated with pumpkins include abundance, prosperity, protection, healing, and fertility.

Some possible uses of pumpkins include:

🎃 Carve pictures or symbols into the pumpkin that represent your intention (maybe prosperity or protection for the coming season)

🎃 If you're one for making pie, trace sigils on the bottom of the pie crust before adding in the filling

🎃 Decorate your altar or home with mini pumpkins

🎃 Snack on (enchanted) pumpkin seeds

🎃 Burn pumpkin spice candles

🎃 Share a pumpkin soup with friends and family

🎃 Use a pumpkin-shaped dish as a money bowl

i dreamed a childhood friend of mine met with me and was like 'hey u wanna do some raids' (in ffxiv) and i was like.. oh sure ill join u for a couple of roulettes. and then we went into this huge sports/gym/etc building (like the size of a shopping mall) with public and private training rooms and stuff, and to get downstairs into the privately booked areas we had to slide down a long tube slide...even though there clearly were escalators on the ground floor?

anyway when we get to the training room its relatively small and has that bouncy plastic judo flooring and theres a few ppl in there already and theyre. learning the savage phoinix fight. and i just am like...huh. well. i guess ill do my best. and i have this weird phone-shaped keypad thing that im pressing the buttons on to do my abilities. and a little while goes on and then the raid leader realizes im just some rando and not whoever actually signed up to be their magdps? and im like. yeah i dont know how they even let me in here. i havent even done p1s or p2s at all. but hes cool with it bc everyones still learning and im trying my best

(and then there was a weird bit where me and the person on the clock spot opposite of me had to like. run around the arena while holding on to an invisible tether and stuff. and at one point i was like. wait fuck i should eat a raid food. but i cant find my pumpkin potages in my inventory? let me go find a bank interface. and i did find one but then i got lost in the huge gym building while trying to make my way back lmao)

Samhain Altar Ideas & Correspondences

Samhain is the Celtic festival that marks the end of the harvest season and the thinning of the veil between the living and the spirit world. It's a time to honor your ancestors, connect with the spirit world, and plan ahead for months of darkness.

Altar Ideas

Altar Cloth: Choose dark, earthy colors like black, deep purple, or dark green to set the foundation for your altar.

Candles: Black or orange candles represent the energies of Samhain. You can also include white or silver candles for purification and connection to the spirit realm.

Seasonal Fruits: Apples, pomegranates, and grapes are commonly associated with Samhain and can be offered as symbols of the harvest.

Fallen Leaves: Gather fallen leaves, especially those with vibrant autumn colors, to represent the changing seasons and the cycle of life and death.

Acorns and Nuts: These symbolize the potential for new beginnings and growth and can be placed on your altar to honor the harvest.

Pumpkins and Gourds: Decorate your altar with small pumpkins and gourds, which are quintessential symbols of autumn and Samhain.

Ancestral Photos: Include photographs of deceased loved ones to honor and connect with your ancestors.

Warning: Dad! Leon; difficult relationship between father and daughter.

I have a cool request there in messages with Leon's son or daughter and I will try to answer it, but for now, again, Leon's dad and his teenage daughter

Part 2

To say that Leon loved his daughter would be an understatement. He literally adored her. This thirteen-year-old girl occupied his whole heart and Leon truly hated being away from his family. He still remembers how he first picked up this rosy-cheeked bundle of joy, which was so small and fragile that Leon was afraid to drop it or accidentally hurt it.

You always remembered with tenderness how he cooed with her, quickly getting used to how to properly hold the baby in your arms. He walked around the house with her and constantly told something, and how his pumpkin babbled with him.

Whereas everyone said that you became a mother too early, and Leon, on the contrary, considered himself already old to start a family, but this child ... You literally saw hope in his eyes when you told him about your pregnancy and he looked at you with fear, waiting decide whether you want to keep the child. And although he was scared, but above all, he is grateful to you, promising that he will do everything possible and impossible for the happiness of his family.

So when your baby was born, Leon spent all his free time when he was at home. Sometimes he even woke up in the middle of the night after another nightmare and silently approached the crib just looked at his girl, running his finger along her cheek.

You thought Leon was a good father. Of course, he sometimes drank if the mission was not entirely successful, but he rarely got drunk to the point of unconsciousness, believing that he had no right to it and saying that he did not want his daughter to see her father drunk. Leon always made his family a priority, but his work took up a lot of his time. Therefore, often at various holidays and events, Leon was simply absent. And while your girl was little, it was easier for Leon to make up for his absence. Gifts, games together, Leon even allowed to sit on his motorcycle, promising that as soon as she was a little older he would allow her to ride it a little. That was enough for your daughter as a child, but the more she grew up, the more acutely she felt the absence of her father.

The first time this was expressed by the fact that in kindergarten, while fulfilling the task of the teacher to draw her family, your daughter drew only you and herself holding her hand. An ordinary children's drawing, but when you asked her where dad was, she carelessly shaking her legs, sitting on a chair, she simply shrugged her shoulders.

"Dad at work"

You just pursed your lips but took your daughter by the hand, took the drawing and sincerely hoped that Leon would not ask anything, and although he noticed the drawing on the refrigerator door, he really did not say anything.

It was the first red flag, and now... take a deep breath. Your daughter obeys you without any scandals and always asks permission, but only from you. Not with Leon.

Transition is a tricky thing, and although D/N was mostly a calm child, this calmness did not extend to Leon. Teenage hormones seemed to be playing out in full, and D/N became a different kid.

"Can you put your phone away while you're at the table?" Leon asked his daughter in a calm tone, but D/N only gave him a displeased look and returned to correspondence with friends, ignoring the request.

Leon took a deep breath, looking back at you as you put the dinner on plates in kitchen. Her blond hair fell into her eyes as she continued to correspond with someone with a sly smile.

“Mommy, will you take Carmen and me to the cafe after the movie tomorrow?" You glanced at her as she reached out to retrieve her plate of pasta and immediately looked over to Leon as D/N waited for your response. After all, your husband hasn't been called anywhere yet, and you've had too much to do.

"Pumpkin, I'm too busy with work tomorrow, but dad can do it" Leon looked at you with gratitude as if you had just saved his life, but D/N did not seem pleased with this prospect, which is why she silently grabbed her fork immediately upset.

"No need." She grunted under her breath as she typed a message on her new phone. "Then we'll get there ourselves"

Leon swallowed all the words turning away and you yourself did not know how to save the situation. The family dinner took place in some tense atmosphere, never like when D/N was little and sat in a special high chair next to her dad, waiting for him to cut her sausages into small pieces. Leon was silent. You lightly kicked your husband under the table, nodding cautiously in the direction of your daughter. "Talk to her," a mute command causes Leon to put down his cutlery and turn to his daughter.

"What movie do you want to see?" Leon stares into his daughter's face, but she seems more engrossed in her phone. "D/N please put your phone down when someone is talking to you."

"You don't like that," she said, but didn't listen to her father. Instead, the fingers continued to quickly run across the screen, making an annoying vibrating sound.

You wondered if you should intervene and ask D/N to put away her cell phone, because when Leon was not at home, she never took it out when she ate with you. There was a feeling that she was deliberately provoking a scandal, testing Leon's patience for strength. He had it, of course, in excess abundance, but now it was becoming less and less.

"Try it." Leon managed a smile as he moved closer."What movie?"

You noticed the interested twinkle in your daughter's eye as she looked at her father. She must have clicked something on her phone as Leon turned his head to look at what she was showing him.

"Tall Oaks" Leon's face instantly changed. "The city was like that. Until it was blown up."

You look at your husband's pale face, literally feeling like the past is covering him with his head. Without a word, he moves away from his daughter, running his eyes over the table. But only you know that Leon needs a drink right now.

"Zombie movie" D/N happily held out and if she knew what her father was constantly fighting with, it would be like a mockery. "I wonder if the main character will be gutted?"

Leon's reaction was immediate. He knocked over the chair with a jerk, causing you and D/N to jump in fright. Unfortunately, due to his work at home, Leon sometimes had triggers due to certain things that made him sick. D/N did not understand what had just happened and looked at you in fear, looking for protection and safety.

"Since when the fuck are you letting her watch this shit?!" Leon snarled at you as he walked into the kitchen rattling cabinets in an attempt to find a bottle of whiskey. Your daughter ran up to you, clearly not understanding why you are acting so calmly.You told her to come up to the room and finish dinner a little later, but she literally clutched your arm, flinching when her father broke one of the glasses.

Innocent modern children's hobbies. Zombies, shooters, vampires, werewolves. Girls aren't all that pampered these days, and D/N was one of those who liked that kind of stuff. You didn't mind that she didn't watch anything that could harm her psyche, but for Leon, things like zombies were always a painful topic that no one ever brought up in the house. He probably still thought that his little girl likes beautiful elves and pegasi.

"She's not going anywhere tomorrow," he snapped rudely, talking to you in one gulp as he finished his glass of whiskey. “I fight this shit every day, not so she can watch people eat each other.”

"Leon..." your voice interrupted his angry tirade. you just had to explain to him that this is a children's film.

"Why the hell are you letting her watch this?!" Such simple things seemed to anger him in a matter of seconds. You thought it's good that your daughter's game console is in her room and not in the living room, because she has recently become addicted to such games.

Leon yelled at his daughter to go to her room and you had to tell her more gently so that she really left. However, D/N stood still, clutching your arm and staring intently into her father's face. He looked embittered and annoyed, but after a second his eyes widened in surprise and his heart dropped down after missing a couple of beats.

"It would be better if only my mom and I were left, and you never existed!"

You swallowed all the words when you heard this. She never said that and you would not think that she had the courage to do so. Leon still held the empty glass in his hand, just as discouraged and filled with bitterness. But what was said wasn't true, you knew it. D/N loved her father, it's just because of Leon's work that she chose a different tactic to draw attention to herself and this resulted in similar scandals.

Everything is quiet. Leon turned his back, lowering his head, and you repeated the order and again sent your daughter to her room. While she was running up the stairs, you approached your husband, taking his glass from his hands, placing it on the cabinet and hugging him from the back, laying your head on his shoulder. You could hear his single loud sob. Turning to him with your palms you wiped the tears from Leon's cheeks when he in the next moment hugged you buried in your neck, arms tightly clasped around your waist.

"Honey, she..." You sighed as you patted his head. "She doesn't really think so. I will talk to her"

Leon just shook his head.

"I was hoping that I could be a good father to her, but I screwed up and my own daughter hates me."

"NO! No no no. Leon, she doesn't hate you! Look, kids like zombies, monsters these days..." Leon pulled away from you as he returned to his glass pouring another shot of whiskey.

"Since when does anyone like this shit?! And why the hell are little girls allowed into horror movies?!"

He saw your absent-minded smile as you pulled out a colored flyer from the table and handed it to Leon. He took it in his hands and his eyebrow flew up in bewilderment.

"The movie is rated childish. There's more love snot than zombies," you smiled as Leon flipped the paper over to read the synopsis. "Doesn't matter." he growled as he took a long sip from his glass. "She's too small for that. I don't want her to watch people eat each other even if it's just one scene."

“No one eats or guts anyone there, Leon!” you gently stroked his back as he throws out a flyer "There zombies only flicker in the background and their extras play. Nobody forces you to watch a movie with girls. Just take them to the cinema then to a cafe and that's it!"

Leon shook his head but said nothing. Biting your lip, you patiently waited for an answer, arguing that if he forbade going to the cinema with a friend, then their relationship would continue to deteriorate.

"Better yet, go out with her yourself. Spend time with your daughter like you did when she was younger. She needs your attention."

"I know!" he shouted with a thud as he put the glass down on the table. "I'm trying... I'm trying to be a good father. I just want to protect her from this."

"Zombies won't come out of the TV if that's what you mean." Leon chuckled at your words. Soft strokes made his calm down a little and start to put her thoughts in order. "Go up to her and comfort her yourself. And tell her you're taking them to the movies tomorrow."

Leon swallowed but returned to you. Enclosing you in his arms inside him, he breathed in the scent of your hair as he gently rocked you from side to side. Grateful to have you, Leon looked up with a heavy sigh. He really shouldn't have reacted to the movie like that. After kissing you, you broke off your embrace to clear the leftover dinner and broken glass from the table, while your husband slowly made his way to the D/N room to try to make amends.

He really has a lot to fix.

here's some witch thing to do for Mabon (mah-bawn) (also know as the Autumn Equinox, or Pagan Thanksgiving) since its saturday!

• make stew to celebrate the gifts (aka crops) that the earth has given us (even better if it has squash in it)

• eat stuff with apples and squash!

• set out an offering for the wildlife

• eat pomegranate in honor (idk the right word to use there) of Persephony

• relock your mirrors, recharge your wards, cleanse stuff, ect.

• journal what you've done this year so far

• set your home up for winter

and here something bigger that I would suggest doing is taking a healing bath.

put some healing herbs in your bath and corresponding crystals and candles (the candles and crystals are optional). here's a list of herbs im going to use: dried rosemary, apple slices, bay leaves, thyme, dried rose pedals, spearmint leaves, himalayan pink salt, blackberries, and cucumber. the crystals im using: clear quartz, rose quartz, moonstone, aquamarine, and jasper. and im going to use some ocean water, too (if you have an ocean near you, you can use ocean water). and here are the candles im using and the meaning that im using that color for:

white (peace, purity, spiritual)

blue (calmness)

pink (emotional healing, self love)

green (physical healing)

yellow (comfort, joy)

also, if you want to use different herbs and crystals then me visit pinecone pub on the ✨ interwebs ✨ and click the get started button and type in 'heal' or ' healing' (of course with out the 's) in the search and a list of stuff would come up (herbs and crystals) that you can put in your healing bath.

Mabon simmer pot:

what you'll need:

• an orange

• rosemary (dried or fresh)

• an apple

• cinnamon sticks

• rose pedals (dried or fresh)

how to:

(1. cut up your orange and apple into slices.

(2. start heating up a pot of water on a stove

(3. add in your orange slices, apple, rose pedals, rosemary, and cinnamon sticks.

(4. let simmer.

and a little extra tip for this coming autumn, the stuff that makes up pumpkin spice, all of those herds can be used for protection. so if you like pumpkin spice, there's a little excuse to eat more stuff with pumpkin spice in it.

Looks at you with my eyes sitting in front of you like I'm interrogating you (but it's actually a really nice cozy room). I have heard tale of this WXwood ship. Tell me what you find compelling about the ship I'm considering joining you in WXwood land. Literally just say words at me I'm listening

Alright, very well then, so I shall! 🫡

At first, it was kind of an ironic ship for me, because they seemed like the classic "opposites attract"

But once I got digging, I found they're not actually that opposite, they share plenty of things in common and neither is actually a black or white character. Inevitably I became enthralled with this ship and now it's one of my top 3 or so OTPs.

Here's my reasoning and what I found:

1. WX-78 is actually a bit of a softie if you dig through their quotes enough. They act tough and logical to presumably hide whatever ounce of empathy they have left, that didn't escape them completely. (But they're not doing too good of a job)

Etc. They either use this uncharacteristically soft tone or hide a kind gesture or well-intentioned thought behind robotically constructed sentences and insults.

And of course, I don't have to show the quotes for machines or metallic structures, since WX openly sees them as their family and acts basically the same as Wormwood does with plants.

Meanwhile, Wormwood isn't always an empathetic creature. He can sometimes be callous, apathetic and even have favorites amongst plants (and people too), though he doesn't directly state that. He also isn't as dumb as he portrays himself to be, he definitely knows something, but either has too limited English speaking skills or is actively choosing not to say much.

He often sobs or cries when a creature dies, but there are times he reacts with either "whoops", "oh" or "too bad" like it's a small inconvenience at best.

And those are only some of the examples (I can't show them all since I'm answering this on my phone and therefore there's an image limit)

2. Here's a reason why, despite being vastly different at first, they'd ultimately become friends:

WX-78 actually likes plenty of things that correspond to Wormwood, it's likely for them to eventually settle, once they know enough about him.

And what are those things they like, you might ask?

Bees (going back to their previous quote) since WX is frankly enamored by bees, and since Wormwood blooms, there's countless of them surrounding him. if they were to hang around him, they'd hang around bees too. 👌

Their quote for green gem is: "PRESSURE AND IMPURITIES HAVE PRODUCED PLEASING PERFECTION" which is. well. Something.

They're very fond of pumpkins, describing them as: "IT HAS A PLEASANT SHAPE" while their seed as "IT IS A SOURCE CODE FOR PLEASING PLANTS" And guess who just happens to have a pumpkin skin ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

The lunar affinity. WX practically WORSHIPS the moon, it wouldn't be surprising that, if they found about this aspect about him, they'd get very excited and embrace it, because c'mon, it's the moon. They have dozens of quotes describing how THE MOON IS SUPERIOR, I wouldn't be able to fit all of them into this post, just trust me on that.

WX-78 doesn't hate all organic life, besides they're just playing out a role. But they do certainly appreciate some plants, such as potatoes and lureplants. The former because they can relate to them (potato battery) and the latter because "AWW, IT'S JUST AS EVIL AS I AM". Would it be too farfetched if with his influence they'd grow to appreciate organic life more?

3. Wormwood's quote for W.A.R.B.I.S armor suggests that he admires WX and would like to mimic them. (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery after all)

4. The survivors farming animation is quite charming, I certainly loved their small interaction there. They're also shown in the official Return Of Them vignette, farming on the side.

5. I like the fact that one of them is afraid of water and the other of fire. Adds an interesting dynamic.

6. They just work. Despite wanting to "DOMINATE ALL ORGANIC LIFE" WX-78 appreciates people who can stand up for themselves. I'd guess Wormwood would be a huge pushover at first, no doubt, but with their influence, he would certainly have to grow a spine (metaphorically speaking)

Likewise, WX-78 struggles to show kindness to non-robotic creatures, because they fear they might come off as WEAK and SENTIMENTAL. Things they loathe to expose about themself. Wormwood could help them show that it's okay to love organic friends and be nice to others! (sometimes at least.)

I'd say they balance out each other perfectly and that is quite rare to see in modern pairings. While they'd definitely struggle to get along at first, they'd surely grow fond of the other one day :)

I hope this convinced you. if not, I'll try and dig up some more stuff. Then again, keep in mind that there aren't many canon character interactions besides whatever crumbs we've got from their quotes and official animations.
