The Bat Family Timeline and Ages (Post-Crisis and New Earth) with Sources

Evidence

In Batman: Year One, Bruce is said to be 25 in the January he returns to Gotham. The 1976 DC Calendar puts Bruce's birthday on the 19th of February so Bruce is 26 during his first outing as Batman in April.

Marv Wolfman's Batman: Year Three (Batman vol. 1 #436) tells us that Dick Grayson's parents die in Bruce's third year. In Batman vol. 1 #441 (also by Wolfman) Tim says that Robin started appearing around 6 months after the death of the Flying Graysons. For Dick's age when he becomes Robin, see below.

Bruce joins the Justice League before Dick forms the Teen Titans. Both these teams form before Barbara Gordon becomes Batgirl at 16 (Batgirl: Year One).

Barbara and Dick are each other's dates to their high school prom and so are less than 2 years apart in age (Detective Comics vol. 1 #871).

I suspect Dick, who was an emancipated minor, graduated high school and started college a year early, which allows Dick and Barbara to have some time as the new Dynamic Duo, as we see in Batman Family.

Dick Grayson is 18 when he forms the New Teen Titans, all of whom are also teenagers (Nightwing vol. 2 #137 by Wolfman, who also created the New Teen Titans).

Dick Grayson is 19 when he becomes Nightwing (Batman vol. 1 # 416).

21 year-old Helena becomes Huntress (Huntress: Year One #1), and interacts with Batgirl, meaning that Barbara is not yet Oracle.

Jason dies at 15, 4 months before his 16th birthday (Batman Files). This is before the New Teen Titans' third year anniversary (New Titans #71), before any of the Titans turn 22 (Deathstroke vol. 1 Annual 1), 2 years after Dick becomes Nightwing and almost 10 years before Dick's parents are killed (Batman vol. 1 #436). Dick is hence 21 during these events and 11 when he became Robin.

I also kinda like Dick being 17 years younger than Bruce because that's also the age difference between Adam West and Burt Ward from the 60s TV series.

After these events, Tim Drake becomes Robin and is 13-14 (Batman vol. 1 #441 and Robin II #1)

Soon after, Stephanie Brown is 15 when she becomes Spoiler (Secret Origins 80-Page Giant).

Stephanie is still 15 when she realises that she is pregnant (Robin vol. 2 #59) and Tim is almost 15 during this time (Secret Origins 80-Page Giant).

Cassandra Cain is 17 when she comes to Gotham during this time (Batgirl vol. 1 #1), during No Man's Land which lasts one year.

Helena’s family were killed when she was 8 and during Batman/Huntress: Cry For Blood, Tim says the murders happened roughly 15 years ago, making her roughly 23 during this storyline.

Cass turns 18 in January (Batgirl vol. 1 #39), Tim Drake turns 16 (Robin vol. 2 #116), Jason would have turned 18 in August (Detective Comics vol. 1 #790), and Stephanie is 16 when she "dies" (Batman Allies Secret Files & Origin).

Personally I'd re-arrange Tim's 16th birthday to be the last of these events four events to accommodate him still being 17 late into the Batman: Reborn, see below.

Jason soon returns to Gotham as Red Hood, not long before Infinite Crisis, 52 and One Year Later.

Following the one year time skip, Dick says it's been almost 10 years since his misadventures with Metal Eddie and Liu as a 16-17 year old (Nightwing vol. 2 #133 by Wolfman), which makes sense because he would be 25 by my math.

Stephanie returns from her time as a medical volunteer in East Africa, finishes high school and begins university during Batman: Reborn. She'd turn 19 by the end of this year by my math, which is a typical age to be begin attending university (Gotham Underground and Batgirl vol. 3 #1).

Dick calls Damian Wayne a "10 year-old" before Stephanie attends university (Batman and Robin vol. 1 #2) and Steph still calls Damian a "10 year-old" while she's in her second semester (Batgirl vol. 3 #13 and Batgirl vol. 3 #17). He might have turned 11 before the reboot.

Batwoman: Elegy (Detective Comics #858), during the Batman: Reborn year, shows that Kate was 12 when she was kidnapped and saw her mother and sister killed. This incident is also said to happen "20 years ago”, making her 32 and hence 30-31 during her first appearance in 52/One Year Later.

Tim Drake is still 17 while Steph is in her second semester of her first year at university, and it's stated that he is meant to be in his senior year at high school (Batgirl vol. 3 #13, Red Robin #17 and Red Robin #25). It's possible he turns 18 before the reboot.

Mistakes I Made

Cassandra Cain is 21 in Year Eighteen.

The "Titans disbands" in Year Thirteen was definitely a year early but it's done.

About the scaped off/cebsored manuscripts: I have never noticed that before! Can you say more about this? Do we know when it was censored? Was it during the medieval times, or later?

Makes me think of how the victorians overpainted exposed nipples etc with flowers when 'restoring' 18th century art

hii good question! i'm not an expert at all and i ask myself the same questions (when were they censored? by whom? why?), but i've definitely encountered this phenomenon a lot when going through medieval manuscripts. here are some examples i could find on the fly (my personal record-keeping system isn't the best, so this is just an incomplete list of what i've come across):

a censorship of noah's exposed genitals (genesis 9:22) in a german bible, ca. 1425.

(Vatican, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Pal. lat. 871, fol. 12v)

in the same bible: a censored image of a couple having sex!

classic nipple censorship 💯💯 (the nipples of no one less than the mother of the antichrist!) in another bible, alsace, early 15th century

(Colmar, Bibliothèque municipale, 0213 (306), fol. 261v)

censored sexual acitivities (probably missionary sex, as that is what's depicted in the same 'spot' in similar manuscripts -- i'll post it soon, it's spicy). in a german fortune-telling manuscript, ca. 1450-1473

(Munich, BSB, Cgm 312, fol. 56r)

then there's also sometimes censorship of non-sexual contents. all three of the above images are from a swabian 'vergänglichkeitsbuch' ('book of evanescence'?), ca. 1575, where a ton of faces have been censored (no idea why). love the demon btw. i wonder whether the 'black scarf' was also added belatedly to cover something up?

(Stuttgart, Landesbibliothek, Cod. Donaueschingen 123, fol. 10v, 11v and 12v)

there's also a different type of censhorship: cut out images! this one's from a medical-astrological manuscript ("iatromathematisches hausbuch"), bavaria, ca. 1474. i don't know what the intention behind this cutting out was, so maybe it wasn't even intended as a censorship?

in the same manuscript (the "iatromathematisches hausbuch"), we also find quite a lot of censored faces though.

so yeah, these are just some examples i can provide. if anybody knows more about the context(s) of this phenomenon, please let us know!

the only thing that i could add is that there's a word for when a text has been scraped or washed off from a manuscript page, which is "palimpsest". but this term is typically used for when a page of parchment was re-used for a new text by scraping off the previous writing, so it's typically not about censorship and idk if the examples i provided would also be considered palimpsests.

I have to ask. What would it have been like if Sakido survived her escape from Hell? Like, how much would she have added if she was alive and with Rhea and Buwaro?

❗ Spoilers for my webcomic, Slightly Damned ❗ Darius would have had no idea where his children went. He would have no way of finding out unless he happened to meet Rhea somewhere. (page 894). Sakido was strong enough to carry both Buwaro and Rhea while flying. They could have easily flown over Fuzen'ro Forest and missed Kieri entirely. Kieri would not have survived without being found by Buwaro (page 147). Without Kieri, Buwaro may have never learned to read (page 857, page 1073). Both Rhea and Sakido easily lose their tempers when dealing with his bubbly and naive personality. Kieri is infinitely patient and gentle with him in a way that the others aren't. Taking advice from Rhea, Buwaro's desire for a relationship with Kieri motivates him to self improve (page 346, page 347, page 348). Having a relationship with Kieri is what motivates him to seek a way to end the war between Demons and Angels peacefully (page 952, page 956). Buwaro felt profound grief and loss when Sakido died. The experience of losing her permanently changed him. He felt guilty for not paying more attention to her needs, and became the emotionally sensitive lovebug we all know today (page 871, page 944). If Sakido lived, when would Buwaro have started growing up?

When Sakido died, Rhea promised she would take care of Buwaro in her place (page 92). With Sakido alive, Rhea might not feel an obligation to stick with the Demon siblings, seeing that she was free in Medius again. Either way, Rhea would have no reason to return to the Fuzen'ro Forest Jakkai village. She and J would likely travel together directly to Ghardin City to reunite with Ramirez (page 585). Sammy could still have saved the Fairy sisters, Eve and Willow, with the help of her family, The Sinclairs. But Buwaro, Kieri, and Rhea would not have gotten Eve's royal blessing, which is somehow detectable even by Fairies who have never met them before and makes them easy to identify (page 669). Miranda Sinclair would not have been able to make The Rainbow Reverie without harvesting ingredients from Kieri and Buwaro (page 446). Without the Green Rainbow Reverie potion, Lakritz would have died from his injuries (page 728). Rhea would have never drank the Yellow Rainbow Reverie potion, which jumpstarted her transformation into a snake as a result of being a direct descendant of Moku, the Earth Snake Guardian (page 827). Tsavo would not have been able to get a sample of the Red Rainbow Reverie potion for his research into controlling berserk Demons (page 829). If Buwaro and Sakido somehow met Iratu in St. Curtis, there are signs that it would not have gone well. Sakido used to be an elite warrior in Hell (page 90), but she left and lived as an outcast in The Ring of the Slightly Damned. When she flies toward the pillar of light to escape Hell with Buwaro and Rhea in tow, one Demon calls her a "crazy bitch" and assumes that Sakido has arrived to stop the Ascension ritual (page 90). Meanwhile, Iratu and the other antagonistic Demons are the ones doing the Ascension rituals (page 774).

...but really, there's an infinite number of ways you could tell a version of Slightly Damned where Sakido stayed alive. That's just not the story I chose to write. I planned to kill Sakido from the start. I had decided on it before the comic began. The chain of events that unfolded and the character development that followed were built with Sakido's death as part of their foundation.

Picking Names. Dad! Eddie Series. *FLUFF*

(I made a header!)

Summary: Eddie and his wife start the long process of coming up for names for baby girl Munson!

TW: Eddie being obnoxious (lovingly). Reader calls Eddie a hoe, but like teasingly. Name slander (?)

“You’re joking?!” She squeals out a laugh. “You know our baby is coming out as a newborn, not a 76 year old grandma with 6 grandkids, right? We are not naming our baby Esther.”

Eddie rolls his eyes and looks back at the book in his hands. “You are so picky.” He teases back. “And what name are you thinking of since you hate all the ones I’m suggesting?”

“I dunno, I kinda like the name Allison.”

Eddie groans slightly, grimacing. “Probably not, I messed around with a girl named Allison before.”

She shoots him a look, rolling her eyes. “Yeah, definitely not Allison.” She mutters under her breath, looking back at her book. “Oooh, what about, Jamie? Jamie Munson? That’s cute!”

Eddie looks at her again with a tight toothed smile.

“Are you kidding me? Dude, were you a hoe before I came along or what?” She jokes. “How about you tell me the names of girls you haven’t slept with yet and we’ll go from there.”

“Hey, it's not my fault I’m so irresistible. You couldn’t keep your hands off me, remember?” He digs in his cup for an ice cube and tosses it at her playfully. “You still can’t keep your hands to yourself, sweetheart.” Eddie wiggles his eyebrows at her, clicking his tongue.

“Yeah, and this is how we’re going to end up with a child named Esther Munson if we can’t find the name of someone you haven’t slept with before.”

Eddie gives her puppy dog eyes, scooting his body close to her. “You know, sometimes your words hurt.”

She turns her head to look at him, snorting a laugh. “God I’m in trouble if you teach our kid how to give the puppy face to me when she wants something. You’re pitiful.”

Eddie smiles, resting his chin on her shoulder as they look through the page of names, all of them starting to blur together.

“I don’t want her to have a normal, run of the mill name, but I want her to be able to find her name on a key chain.”

“You know… a good ol’ classic name like Est-,”

“Edward James, I am not naming our child Esther.” She grits through her teeth.

Eddie puts his hands up in defense, snickering to himself because he knows he’s getting under his wife’s skin. “I’m just saying, babe! I looked up what the name Esther meant and it meant ‘star’. I thought it was kinda pretty since you love stars and space.”

“I’m about to send your ass to space in a minute, Edward.” She mutters the threat under her breath, but loud enough for him to hear. She really only ever called him Edward when he was pissing her off.

“Alright, let's take a little break from looking at the book and do something? How about you go take a nice bath, not too hot. I’ll go grab us some early dinner, and go rent a movie? That sound nice?” He asks in a low, calm voice in her ear, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

“It does sound nice. Be back here in an hour?” She sighs contently, tossing the book onto the coffee table. She puckers her lips for a kiss, batting her lashes at him.

“Oh, and I’m the one that has a pitiful face when they want something.” Eddie teases, kissing her lips three times. “Sounds like a date, sweetheart. I’ll be home soon.” Eddie rubs his hand over her belly before getting off the couch, and out of swinging distance. “Be home soon, my little Esther-roonie.”

“Eddie!” She yells loudly, picking the pillow up and throwing it at him while he ducks behind the recliner. “You are so annoying!” She lets out a laugh as his head pops back up.

“I’m annoying, but I got you to laugh!” He yells back as he runs out the door.

“I promise I am not letting your father name you Esther, peanut. But I’m going to go ahead and apologize that your father still acts like a 16 year old boy. I’ve tried, we’re both stuck with him.”

It's nights like this that she enjoyed the most.

Of course she loved having nights out with Eddie, but nothing beat lying on top of him while on the couch, snacking on their favorite junk food, and watching whatever movie he had rented.

Eddie had her shirt pulled up to reveal her belly, his hands rubbing the basketball shaped bump slowly and absentmindedly. Every once and a while he pressed soft kisses to her temple, almost like a reminder that he was there and that he loved her.

He ended up renting “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” for them to watch, it was the first movie that she and Eddie had seen when they started dating. It was always one of their go to picks when they didn’t know what else to watch.

They laughed at the same parts that always made them laugh, cringed at Cameron’s dad’s car “falling to its death”. But as they were watching, she picked up on something that caught her attention and she couldn’t shake it from her brain.

“Eds, what do you think of the name, Sloane?”

Patton and Logan read together. The story sparks a question from Logan. -

“‘Isn’t it odd,’” Patton read aloud from the book his students—well, his students and their parents—had given him for Teacher Appreciation Day. “‘We can only see our outsides but nearly everything happens on the inside.’”

Logan softened in his hold and hummed, the vibrations dancing out from the middle of his back and against Patton’s chest and arms. They sat curled together on their new loveseat, celebrating its arrival with stories and cuddles. With Patton’s arms curled around his middle, Logan held the book, the simple text and illustrations captivating them both.

They’d originally planned to each read their own books. Logan was working through The Four Agreements, but he’d looked up with each of Patton’s tiny gasps and coos at the lovely storybook. Finally, his curiosity had burned too brightly to contain and he’d sheepishly asked Patton to start again from the beginning.

That had been well over an hour ago. The soft story of a lonely little boy, his new cake-obsessed mole friend, and a promised fox and horse had kept their attention as the night grew dark.

“‘“Imagine how we would be if we were less afraid,” said the boy.’” Patton continued, then waited for Logan to turn the page.

Instead of turning, though, Logan held the book with one hand and brushed his fingertips over Patton’s knuckles. “What do you think we would be like if we were less afraid, Pat?”

“I wouldn’t need a nightlight,” he chuckled gently, then rested his cheek against the top of Logan’s head. His hair was warm and soft, and lightly tickled Patton's cheek in the most delightful way.

Logan’s heartbeat thudded against Patton’s forearm but he didn’t speak.

“That’s not really what you meant though, huh, Lo?” Patton murmured.

“No,” he whispered. His heart raced in the quiet room until Patton imagined he could hear it. Logan sucked in a sharp breath and slowly let it out, the warmth radiating over Patton’s hands. “I’m not afraid of the dark or spiders”—he tilted his head to smile at him—”Creepy crawly death dealers. But… I do get scared. There are… there are many things that frighten me.”

The muscles in Patton’s arms flexed as he held Logan just a little tighter, pretending for a moment he could banish all of his dearest friend’s fears through the strength of flesh and bone and will alone. “What are you afraid of, Lo?”

“I…” He set down the book, carefully marking the page with the little card the children had signed. “I was afraid to ask you about this loveseat,” he finally said, tracing the weave of the upholstery.

“I’m glad you conquered your fear,” Patton smiled. “I really like being able to sit with you like this.”

“As do I,” Logan admitted in a tiny whisper. “I…” His heartbeat shot back up and he glanced at their bedroom door.

“Lo,” Patton began, very gently. “There’s no wrong answer to this, I promise, but…” Logan shifted in his arms, not pulling away, but turning until he was nearly cradled against his chest. “Is there something else you want but you’re afraid to ask for?”

His answer was a nod. And a bright red flush across his cheeks.

Patton pressed one small kiss into his hair and waited. When Logan still didn’t speak, Patton kissed the top of his head again. “I promise you, Lo… The absolute worst thing I might say is no.”

“I can imagine a great deal worse than a simple ‘no,’” Logan whispered. “In fact, ‘no’ feels like the most I can hope for.”

“You can never get what you don’t ask for,” Patton replied. “I care about you far too much to say anything worse than ‘no.’” Big, dark eyes looked up at him and from this angle, Patton caught a glint of the silver at Logan's collarbone. He tapped gently at the metal. “I might surprise you again.”

Lithe, warm fingers covered Patton’s and something shifted behind Logan’s eyes. He smiled at last, the worry melting from his face. “Promise?” he asked.

“Promise,” Patton said, nodding solemnly.

“If I were fearless,” he began, eyes downcast as though a small part of him was still very much afraid of Patton’s expression. “If I were fearless,” he tried again, “I would ask if you wanted to share a bed.”

The words came out in such a rush, it took Patton a moment to be sure he even understood the question. In his silence, Logan kept his eyes trained down, stiff in Patton's arms. “Do you mean every night?” Patton asked. Despite Logan’s obvious discomfort, he couldn’t help the smile growing on his face. “Not just when I have a nightmare?”

Still looking down, Logan nodded slowly. “While I would never wish distress or a disturbed night of sleep for you, I… I miss it when…” His voice cracked and he sniffled. Despite Patton's assurances, Logan's fear over Patton's response poured off of him in waves, squeezing his heart.

“Oh, Lo…” Patton lifted his chin and smiled when he finally looked up. “My bed feels awfully lonely without you in it, Lo. I'd love to share it with you.”

“Really?” Logan asked, eyes grown misty above a tiny, shaky smile.

“Really.”

Everyone who has ever said "but I can't start that show or series from the beginning, it's so long!" "I can't crochet/knit a whole king size blanket it's huge!" Or "I'll never finish my TBR, there's too much!" Yes it might be long, and it might seem impossible, but it's not. To quote Lao Tzu "The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step." You can't finish something, a sketchbook, a novel, a TV series, a podcast, your TBR, a huge crocheted blanket, if you don't start somewhere.

YOU CAN'T FINISH SOMETHING IF YOU DON'T START SOMEWHERE!

It might be a little daunting to see all that you have to finish, but just take it one episode, one sketchbook page, one book, one row/granny square, one page at a time. Eventually the distance becomes shorter and one day, you will finish.

For example, according to Google Doctor Who has 871 released episodes, ok yeah that's 2.38 years at 1 episode a day, or 1.19 years at 2 episodes a day. You might not have time to binge watch whole seasons in one sitting, but you probably have an hour in your day or week, where you want to do something.

So if you've been wanting to do something that seems insurmountable, seems impossible to complete, just start, you'll reach Erebor eventually, but you have to leave the Shire first.

Mend and Make New

Featured in the photographs above is some remarkable hand and sewing-machine stitching done in 1893 by Dorothea Beach, a 6th grader at a public school in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The sample is from the archives of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences housed at Cornell University Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections.

The AAFCS was founded as the American Home Economics Association at the Lake Placid Conference of 1909. Participants at the annual conference, who had been meeting annually for 10 years, were passionate about turning the formerly invisible work of women into vibrant arenas for building creative expertise. For the early pioneers of the field, Cornell’s Martha Van Rensselaer and Flora Rose among them, home economics (also known as domestic science and, later, family and consumer sciences) would be a force for liberation. As a newly emerging field of study in land-grant colleges and other educational institutions, it would help women transform practical skills into creative capacity for finding innovative solutions problems that affect both individuals and society as a whole. A key area for this work was the challenge women faced keeping themselves and their families well clothed, despite the hardships of poverty and crises in the national economy.

Through community workshops, live demonstrations at county fairs, and free publications, home economists have sought over the years to help their communities take on the issue of making, maintaining, and repurposing clothing. Teaching children good stitch work was an important start, but the ultimate goal was to grow this basic skill into a nimble ability to refashion unlikely resources, lean household budgets and thread bare clothes included, into fresh elements of a pleasing wardrobe.

Most of the guides to sewing and stitching shown here are available as part of Mann Library’s online Home Economics Archive: Research, Tradition, History (HEARTH) , the Cornell Historical Literature of Agriculture (CHLA), and the Hathi Trust Digital Library. These online repositories offer valuable (yet free!) resources for anyone interested in re-learning the art of making new from old. “Upcycling,” a term first coined in the early 1990s, has become a common word as awareness of more sustainable “slow fashion” principles has grown. What does it mean exactly? According to merriam-webster.com, to upcycle is “to recycle (something) in such a way that the resulting product is of a higher value than the original item : to create an object of greater value from (a discarded object of lesser value).” For (happily) growing numbers of us, upcycling has become a fine craft that combines old traditions and techniques with contemporary style to create uniquely personalized wearable art that also signals a conscious effort to avoid harmful waste and use resources sustainably. With a little bit of mindfulness and maybe some handy “how-to’s found in digitized, freely available historical materials, the old can indeed become some bright new for one and all.

Bruce Wayne- 26 Years Before Batman

On the 4th of January, Year One, a 25 year-old Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham after 12 years abroad on 4th January, months before his first outing as Batman (Batman: Year One #1). Unless his birthday is between Jan 1-4, Bruce turns 26 the year Batman is born.

Dick Grayson- 1st Day of Spring, 7 Years Before Batman

Dick Grayson's origin story is appears in the tail end of Batman: Dark Victory, which takes place in the 4th and 5th years of Batman's career.

In its sequel, Robin: Year One, Dick begins attending Bristol Middle School. And in Batman & Robin (2009) #13, Dick, as Batman, tells the Joker he had already figured him out at 12 but The Joker doesn't appear in Robin: Year One. So, Dick is probably 11 when he becomes Robin, in Year Five (Dark Victory). Dick is 19 years younger than Bruce.

Important for later, Dick becomes Nightwing, aged 19 (Nightwing: Year One and Batman #116) in Year Thirteen.

Jason Todd- August 16th, 2 Years Before Batman

According to his death certificate, Jason Todd was 15 years and 8 months old when he died on the 27th of April (Batman Files). His birthday is August 16th (Detective Comics #790). At this time, Dick Grayson was 21, having left the Robin mantle 2 years earlier; at 19 (Batman #436). Jason is around 5 years younger than Dick. He was hence Robin for less than 2 years, from when he was 13 going on 14 in Year Thirteen up to 27th April, Year Fifteen.

Stephanie Brown- 2 Years Before Batman

Steph is 15 when she debuts as Spoiler (Secret Origin 80-Page Giant). At the same time as her debut comic, Deathstroke (1991) Annual 1 has Dick saying he, one of the oldest Titans, is no older than 21 (the age he was when Jason died). Dick is 6 years older than Steph. So Steph debuts in Year Fifteen; the same year Jason dies and Tim becomes Robin.

Steph becomes Batgirl right before her freshman year of university, aged 18, going on 19 (Batgirl 2009 #1). This is in Year Nineteen. Which means that Preboot ends in Batman: Year Twenty as Steph has not yet entered sophomore year. Convergence takes place after of course.

Barbara Gordon- 8-9 Years Before Batman

Batgirl (2000) #45 shows that Babs was already Batgirl at 18. As an adult, Babs is 5'11" and yet she did not meet the minimum height requirements for the GCPD or FBI during Batgirl: Year One. She must have become Batgirl before she stopped growing, and so was at most 16 during Batgirl: Year One. She also says that she is older than Dick in Batgirl: Year One but they must be close enough in age for them to go to prom together (Detective Comics #871). My theory is that Babs didn't go to her own prom because she skipped grades and was or felt too young so her high school prom was actually when she went with Dick to his. Babs is somewhere between 1-2 years older than Dick.

There's more evidence for this. Dick is already a Teen Titan during Batgirl: Year One and in New Titans #89 said that he knew Donna Troy since they were both 13. So Babs likely became Batgirl between Year Seven and Year Eight, when she was 15-16 and Dick was 13-14. Also, Dick and Babs have a picnic as friends 12 years before The Black Mirror, in Year Twenty, so these ages are pretty perfect.

Important for later, Babs is shot by the Joker just before Jason is killed and becomes Oracle before Tim becomes Robin. This is in Year Fifteen; she is roughly 22 here given that Dick is 20-21 at the time. No panels just math :P

Cassandra Cain-Wayne- January 26th, 2 Years Before Batman

Cassandra Cain debuts in No Man's Land aged 17 (Batgirl 2000 #1) and turns 18 on the 26th of January the following year, though she only learns this after it has passed (Batgirl 2000 #33). Later that year, Bruce brings her to Jason's grave on the 16th of August, the day he would have turned 18 (Detective Comics #790). She is 7 months older than Jason.

Helena Bertinelli- 8 Years Before Batman

Helena Bertinelli was 8 when her family was murdered and the events of Huntress: Cry for Blood takes place 15 years after, following directly after No-Man's Land. Huntress is hence 23 following No-Man's Land. Cass turns 18 soon after No-Man's land, so Helena is around 5 years older than Cass.

But, Cass is born in January and Helena could be born later in the year. Helena Bertinelli is 21 years-old during Huntress: Year One; when she becomes the Huntress. She soon moves back to Gotham after Carvinal in Venice (late Jan-early Feb), and encounters Barbara Gordon as Batgirl. Babs is at most 22 here so Babs is close to 1 year older than Helena and Helena is slightly older than Dick. Huntress debuts at the tail end of Year Fourteen.

Damian Wayne- Batman: Year Nine

Dick and Stephanie call Damian a 10 year old in Batman and Robin #2 and Batgirl #17. One takes place before Steph starts uni (since Damian appears in Batgirl 2009 #1) and the other takes place during Steph's second semester of freshman year (Batgirl #13). So Damian is 9 years younger than Stephanie. He first appears aged 9 at the start of Year Nineteen and becomes Robin later that year, aged 10.

Renee Montoya- 7th September, 19 Years Before Batman

In 52 #14, published in 2006, we see Renee's passport and date of birth: 9/7/1970. It is the 14th week of the year so she would be 35 going on 36. 52 takes place in Year Eighteen, the calendar year Damian turns 9, so Renee is 27 years older than Damian.

She debuts as the second Question in 52 #48 the same year, aged 36.

Kate Kane- 14 Years Before Batman

Kate Kane is 32 at the time of Batwoman: Elegy, in Year Nineteen, since she was in the same class at West Point as the real-life activist Dan Choi, which means that she was part of the US Military Academy Class of 2003. Damian is 10 at the time so Kate is 22 years older than Damian.

Tim Drake-Wayne- Batman: Year One

Tim's age is THE weird one because DC are hellbent on keeping him at 17. It's too much for my brain, like how is he still 17 in Red Robin?? Let's say he seems to be only a year younger than Stephanie Brown a la Secret Origins 80-Page Giant or that he was bitten by a strange vampire bat during the One Year Later time skip. Your pick.

Fun fact: Dick permanently becomes Batman at 25 (in Year Nineteen), which is possibly the same age Bruce was when he became Batman.

Author commentary:

In round two of Dave's strife, he tries to escape from the relentless puppet pummeling, but bro slashes the ABSCOND command, just like he sliced all the other battle commands in round one. The message is clear. Dave can't escape until he has been dealt the requisite daily helping of domestic abuse, wait I mean ninja training. What did I say there? Nothing. It was nothing. Homestuck is a lighthearted and funny cartoon dealing in highly abstract and stylized household situations, and nothing about it shall evoke the gritty realities experienced every day by real life victims of abuse. Now let's watch this 30-something year old man pound the living daylights out of his adopted 13 year old brother and biological son.

0:09 - Dave is like. You see this. This foam puppet I guess I decapitated earlier when I flipped out in the kitchen. See it. Yeah. This could be you. Just watch your step bro.

0:11 - Professional tip: use the blur filter to make it look like someone is going fast. Am I the first person to ever think of that neat trick? The answer is, almost certainly.

Bro is really just pissed at Dave for ripping up the weird Muppet Babies comic that was taped to the door.

0:25 - If a dude is in a sword fight, he cannot be authoritatively identified as an ice cold motherfucker unless he blocks the other guy's sword without even looking.

0:31 - It is also an unwritten rule that in nonlethal sword fights, while all the coolest moves are done through swordplay, any attack that makes any actual bodily contact must be done through punching and kicking. That's because in reality, if a sword slices you, you pretty much just die. And when someone dies, that's when the coolness ends. Although I guess theoretically one of the swordsmen could still sort of leap and cavort around the dead body, flipping out awesomely with his sword and such. That would be one way to prolong an awesome sword fight.

0:35 - Dave was doing alright there for a while, but here's where it all starts to unravel. Don't worry, the training is for your own good, Dave. It comes in handy later when you… uh… I guess when you swindle some idiot crocodiles out of trillions of dollars in the stock market?

0:45 - Let's face facts. This training was pretty much useless.

0:53 - Bro is just standing there with Cal, primed for the knockout blow with his tiny hightop sneaker. Insult, meet injury. Again, hang in there, Dave. You will get your revenge later in the story, by grieving over your older brother's slain bloody corpse.
