Can I ask you to do a post about Disney & disability please? You mentioned it and I’d love to know more!
Well, my notifications can't get any messier, so why not?
This post got very, very long because I ended up talking about a lot of the accessibility solutions in detail (and... ranting about how accessibility at Universal was so bad that I got physically injured there) so I'm putting it under a cut for you.
To preface this, I have mobility issues (as well as a lot of food intolerances/allergies) and general chronic illness, my sister is Deaf, and I have friends who regularly attend the park with autistic family members with high support needs. These are the disabilities I have experience with, so while I've heard a bit about others (such as portable descriptive devices for visitors with visual impairments) I can't speak as much about those accommodations.
I have also traveled quite a bit, mostly as a disabled adult. I can work from anywhere and my family enjoys traveling, so I've been very lucky in this regard. I also used to live in central Florida, not too far from Disney, and benefited from their FL resident rates.
So I'm coming at this from a person who has a lot of experience traveling while disabled and a fair amount of experience going to WDW, though I haven't been nearly as often since I moved out of Florida.
(Good fucking riddance.)
So know that I am speaking from experience when I say I have never, without exception, been to a single place half as accessible as Walt Disney World. It is literally the reason my family would go there; it was one of the only places we could all safely go together. One of the only places I've been on earth that even approached their level of thoughtful accommodations is Barcelona, which apparently did significant renovations throughout the city in order to prepare for the 1992 Paralympics.
(Hey, if anyone is reading this from Barcelona: I teared up the first time I used one of your curb cuts in my wheelchair, just so you know.)
Going through those parks in a wheelchair is a breeze, though you will probably have to fight a lot of clueless parents with strollers who are hellbent on using resources intended for wheelchair-users and then glaring at you when you try to use them yourself. Level ground, spacious sidewalks, accessible transportation, well-kept gradual ramps, roomy buildings, lots of accessible restrooms, alternate entrances at many rides for wheelchair users, special wheelchair rows in movie theaters that we're loaded into first, accessible queues in most rides designed or renovated in the last fifteen years, special viewing areas for shows/parades/fireworks so you don't end up staring at able-bodied butts for a half hour...
Like, structurally-speaking, the parks are very easy to get around in if you're a wheelchair user. That was built in and you can see a lot of very mindful design choices. As far as the rides go, most of their rides actually have special cars that you can load into while still in a wheelchair. They're pretty neat. I can transfer, but that means often leaving my wheelchair and/or cane with a cast member during the ride. They are always, without fail, waiting for me on the other side of the ride, no matter how far the exit is from the entrance. I have never once had a problem with this. A cast member will be there to put my assistive devices in my hand before I even have to think about getting up. Guaranteed.
Wheelchair users always used to be able to skip the line, but there was unfortunately a problem with able-bodied people pretending to be disabled to skip lines (because god forbid they not have access to a single thing we have to make our lives livable) so now there's a system where if you cannot wait in a line, they'll basically give you a special time to come back that's equivalent to the length of the line. Which feels fair to me as someone who often cannot be in even an accessible line for extended periods. (I have problems with sunlight, heat, and often need emergency food or restroom.)
More important than all this, though, is the fact that cast members are impeccably well-trained in all of this. Any disabled person can tell you that the most accessible design on earth isn't worth shit if the people working there aren't well-trained. (More on this later, when I take a giant shit on Universal Studios.) But Disney trains their employees, many of whom are disabled themselves, incredibly well.
Every employee will know where the accessible entrances are. Every employee will know the procedure for getting a return time. Every employee will know about first-aid centers, and every employee will know where the quiet areas are for people with sensory issues. Every time you make a reservation for a meal, hotel room, transportation, etc. they will ask for all accessibility needs and they'll be ready for you.
Every waiter you have will be incredibly careful and knowledgeable when it comes to special dietary needs, and chefs will often come out to discuss them with you. They often have specific menus for different dietary needs, and they are scrupulous when it comes to allergens. I have a few intolerances that suck and allergies that could kill me and I have always felt very safe in their hands. This ranges from fancy sit-down restaurants to quick service burger places.
And -- honestly, I have just always been treated with respect. I know that sounds like a low bar, but most people do fail to clear it. Disney has their employees very well-trained on how to interact with disabled guests. People speak directly to me, never to the able-bodied people over my head. They never treat me like I'm a child. They never ask invasive questions or make uncomfortable jokes. They never, ever get impatient with my accessibility needs.
The few times I have misjudged things and have injured myself or gotten extremely ill, they were professional and caring as they provided much-needed first-aid. It's kind of embarrassing to be doted on by a costumed character while you wait for a doctor to come help you sit up again, but also kind of endearing, I'll admit.
They also, in addition to captioning all videos in the park, have some of the best sign language interpreters in the world, bar none. They're very personal and professional, they're easy to reserve, they will always be in a visible place during shows, and they're incredible performers as well as being very technically proficient. In addition to the professional interpreters, many cast members, performers, and characters can sign as well.
In addition to that, and this brings me to my next point, you'll meet a lot of disabled employees throughout the park. In front-facing positions. Deaf employees, employees using mobility aids, etc. They're well-known to hire disabled people and treat them well. This is. Fuck, this is incredibly rare, I say as someone who was never able to find a job in Florida with my health conditions. It's the moral thing to do to hire disabled people, but also -- selfishly, there's something so heartening and normalizing about seeing people who look like you working at the park. I'm happy every single time.
I have a little less personal experience when it comes to accessibility for neurodivergence, despite being neurodivergent myself, but I've been told that Disney is very, very accommodating for people on the spectrum. A lot is done to lessen crowding, waiting, sensory overload, etc. for autistic guests. Cast members are usually super good at this; finding designated quiet areas, helping autistic guests avoid more crowded areas, keeping them out of long lines, making sure they have access to any particular experiences that are special to them, etc.
For folks who need help from their group, whether that's an autistic child who needs to be with a parent or a disabled adult who needs someone to push their wheelchair or anything else, Disney has a rider switch-off model. In other words, if you're there with both of your able-bodied parents, for example, and you need one of them to be with you at all times and you don't want to be on the ride yourself, Disney will allow one person to go on the ride while the other waits for them to finish, then will allow the second person to go on without any additional wait. This makes sure that everyone in the family gets equal access without leaving disabled people alone. (Which... can be a very shitty feeling, I assure you.)
I know that Disney has also pioneered a lot of assistive technology. The accessible rides, obviously, which can be ridiculously cool (like Toy Story Midway Mania has an accessible car with alternative "guns" for people with dexterity limitations so they can play the carnival games as well) but also handheld assistive devices for visually impaired guests, etc. Like they are literally inventing new forms of accessibility technology, which is so cool.
And honestly, I'm always learning about new ways they assist disabled guests. I've stayed in Disney's accessible hotel rooms before (they're very nice!) but I don't like to swim so I've never been in the pools. But even just this week, someone told me that Disney has pool lifts for disabled guests, which I had never even considered. That's so cool.
The best part about accessibility at Disney is that in some ways it's very casual. A lot of their design decisions are so intuitive that you never even notice how accessible the parks are until you go somewhere where that's... not the case.
Like -- just so you don't assume that any of these things are industry standard, let me tell you about the two times I went to Universal, a park very close to Disney. I went there once for an event and once with my family.
The first time I went was for an event at the opening of the Harry Potter park. (This was before JKR made her most appalling views public, to be clear.) It... was frustrating. Guests asked if there would be food and drink available for people with special dietary restrictions (such as sugar-free butterbeer) and were pretty much told that no, that was not something they were interested in pursuing. It became very obvious very quickly that the park itself was so narrow that it only barely fulfilled ADA standards -- when empty. We were told that JKR had actually specifically insisted that it feel "cramped". Which is a nice way to say that I couldn't actually get around in any of the stores while people were in them.
It was overall a frustrating experience, but it was like. One night. I figured it was probably a fluke and they were still ironing out all the details. So I ended up going back with my parents later.
Y'all, it was a shit show.
Broken elevators that prevented disabled guests from accessing rides. Performers being up on raised platforms/sidewalks so disabled guests couldn't get to them. Sidewalks being made inaccessible by putting movable signs directly in the middle of them. Stores (even outside of the HP part) that were so damn narrow that I actually ended up getting hurt trying to navigate one of them. And no -- it was not easy to get first aid.
And my god, was the training bad. We went to one of the new HP rides, asked if there was a specific entrance for disabled guests. We were told no. We waited for a very long time in a line that honestly I shouldn't have been waiting in, but I wanted to be a good sport. I was pretty sick by the time we got through it, and the line itself had some very dangerous inclines/turns for wheelchair users. We get to the front of the line -- and the employee asks why we didn't just use the accessible entrance. 🙃
(Side note: several of their rides are also just unrideable if you don't fit within a pretty narrow body type of thin and able-bodied, so... there's that.)
We'd asked repeatedly and gotten incorrect answers, and I'd been put in physical danger as a result. Wild. I started to notice that if you asked different employees, you'd get different answers about almost anything, really. Just exceptionally poor training. Even stuff that should've been a no-brainer, like loading wheelchair users into a stationary movie theater, ended up creating chaos when they did it incorrectly and we had a giant wheelchair pileup.
Like -- let me stress to you that many of the things that happened could have caused actual injury to people. Some of these situations were dangerous. And some of them were just alienating, like when I'd have to wait outside a store while my family could go in.
I never went back after that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We just kept going to Disney.
One thing that'll probably show how good Disney is at accessibility is the whole Make-A-Wish thing. A lot of people know that it's a popular Make-A-Wish request, and you're likely to see at least a couple kids with Make-A-Wish buttons during your visit if you keep an eye out. One reason for this, is that, y'know, Disney World is fun. Kids want to go there. But more important, I think, is that Disney can accommodate people with at-times severe medical needs. Those kids can safely go anywhere and do anything in those parks that able-bodied kids can, and that's important.
All in all, the parks are just so accessible and you will never, ever be made to feel like you're lesser for needing those accommodations. You will be treated so well and you will not have to worry about accessibility because the cast members are always doing it for you. They'll usher you into the correct entrance as soon as they see a mobility device, and they'll do it with a very warm welcome. It's one of the very few places on earth where I have never felt like a burden.
Again, y'know, I know that Disney does not have a perfect track record on a lot of issues. I would never defend them from rightfully earned criticism. I strongly support labor action against them, and I do think they should be criticized whenever they fuck up. I have been uncomfortable with the sheer amount of power they have both in Florida and in the entertainment world just because no one should have that much power. But I am far more uncomfortable with that power being stripped away for blatantly discriminatory political reasons.
I do have some loyalty to Disney just because there is no other place on earth where I've been able to safely have fun with my friends with so little agony. That's... I mean, it's important, really. To be able to just exist in public without getting grief for it. And I have some loyalty to them because they were a safe space for me as a young, queer kid who was not safe being out in other areas of my life.
(Like, I am talking about actual literal safety. I kept seeing notes on my post saying that Disney didn't care about creating a "safe space for queer people" but as someone who lived in Florida for the entirety of my teenage years? It was the safest goddamn place there.)
I do not have enough loyalty to defend them when they do immoral bullshit, but I do have enough to make sure that people know the good that they do as well.
I want other businesses to follow Disney's model for disability. I will praise them forever for what they've done in that regard because if I don't, there's no reason for other companies to follow suit. I want to praise them for the good things they've done so they have incentive to keep doing it, and other companies have an incentive to do it as well.
Like bro, I just wanna be able to move around and be treated with some dignity, y'know? My bar is so low. lmao
But yeah. That's why you always see so many disabled guests at Disney. It's literally the only place some of us can go to have fun.

As someone who hasn't touched it yet- how does IS4 stack up? How's first impressions been?
Ok, let me give my thoughts on IS4, now that it's been a week!
TL;DR -> This Rocks, I love it.
IS4 is far, far more polished than IS3. I feel a bit bad blasting and slamming IS3 so much, but the bottom line with it is that it's just very very flawed in ways that really make it hard to revisit it in the same way IS2 is always a fun romp.
If I had to point out flaws with IS4, it'd be that, on a personal level, I wish it had a few more Normal Arknights Maps. The vast majority of maps in IS4 are pranks and checks of some sort. This isn't necessarily a negative, but I do like playing some Tower Defense more frequently than what IS4 allows, since it's always got me worried about "oh god my team lacks X, Floor Y's Map Z checks X, if I get it, I'll D I E " so I try to go for my super tried and true team instead of daring to experiment all that much. This will eventually pass, but it's been a Thing for me.
Besides that, though? I just have a lot of good things to say about it. The systems feel like they were thought out this time: The Fordartals (sp?) system allows for a lot of player expression, agency, and just in general fun in a way the Light system of IS3 can simply never hope to compare to. About the only thing the Light system did right was the way it worked thematically: If you wish to confront The Corrupting Heart, you really, really gotta go in the dark, and for the best possible chance against, Izumik, Mizuki must find the Light again and be filled with hope. Yeah ok sure, thematically, these work, but the gameplay component sucks ass, because Light exists almost exclusively as a form of punishment and in basically no way as something you can use. It opens some roads, sure, but that Rogue Trader and Wish Fulfilled node are not worth having 9 out of you 11 Operators with Metastatic. Speaking of Metastatic, the single worst thing Arknights has done, even if you are maxed out on Collapse in IS4 and are packing four fully upgraded maluses, THAT STILL DOESN'T COMPARE to how bad Metastatic was. Let that sink in.
The endings are no longer RNG! Absolutely wonderful!
Eik is the first IS 2nd Boss I can say I think is good! Frozen Monstrosity was just annoying, Big Sad Lock is incredibly static, and The Last Knight, in my opinion, is the single worst and most boring boss in the entire game, not even just the game mode. Eik is like if The Last Knight didn't suck: Same principle, but done in a way that is actually not snooze-inducing. Mind you, the principle of the fight is still not something I enjoy, but unlike The Last Knight, that's wholly a me thing, as opposed to being an objectively awful and boring fight (like The Last Knight, the worst and most boring boss in Arknights).
Even though I said I'd like some more normal maps, the maps are good, to be honest! I can't think of any Fire and Water Unions or Out of Controls.
IS4 is the Smash of Arknights: (Almost) Everyone Is Here! Brush up on your gimmicks from various events, because they WILL appear.
The Midboss philosophy in IS4 is lovely, in my opinion: It's low HP bosses who can quickly fuck you up in their own way, be it stun, immense conditional damage, or simply supporting their team so well that you get overwhelmed. The Variant stages for the bosses are entire new maps, so that's also cool.
Collapsal enemies are congruent with the map design: Collapsals can be very quick, with a caveat: Normal Collapsal mobs speed up after they get hit, Casters speed up after not attacking for a bit, Aerials are fast but always have many loops and never directly go to the point until after a while. Shattered Champions are the exception, and they can either loop a while or just go straight for the jugular, making them apt Elite units for the faction.
There's much more I could say more concisely, but really, just try the game mode, get your ass kicked a bit, learn it, and then you'll see how coherent the design of IS4 is in terms of systems, maps, enemies, and features. Sorry, IS3, but you got your ass absolutely kicked like I did on my Waves 15 runs when you'd give my 2 main DPS units Metastatic on Floor 5.

People in Trump supporting areas who grew up impoverished are part of the same systemic issue. This is a controversial opinion, but they are worthy of compassion just like anyone else. They are a product of their circumstances and an intentionally awful education system intended to keep them from thinking critically so that they can be easily controlled and manipulated. Are there exceptions? Of course. But the exceptions are outliers due to the good luck of a higher IQ and/or loving and compassionate parenting and/or coming into other ideas at the right points of their development. It doesn’t mean we have to agree with them or tolerate their views. But we don’t have to hate them or be intolerant of the person themselves for those views. They’re mixed up and confused and likely grew up knowing only hate. More division is not what the world needs.
That anon said nothing about hating endo systems or being intolerant of them. They said this is why people with trauma histories might become upset when linking plurality as a whole to DID caused by trauma. They did not say endos therefore need to hide or shouldn’t exist. It is possible to be inclusive of both sides. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. You are putting words in their mouth by talking of hate as a way to further ostracize the viewpoint from your audience.
It’s disappointing and sad how unwilling you seem to hear other perspectives that don’t fully match yours. Granted, you’re not alone in that.
The internet is full of all these filter bubbles and it’s so very isolating and depressing.
Best of luck.
It's not being unwilling to hear it. It's just "a lot of sysmeds are sysmeds because bad things happened to them" isn't some brand new revelation to me.
The question is... what do you do with that information?
Actually changing the mind of just a single person so deeply embedded in bigotry requires a monumental effort and time investment that can feel akin to cult deprogramming. Except cult deprogramming only happens when you get someone away from said cult, while sysmeds will still be very embedded in their communities, and changing their minds can mean them losing long-time friendships. They are socially incentivized to not change their point of view.
Should knowing the cause change anything about how I behave towards them?
I mean, I'm already not someone going around harassing people. I'm not sending hate to their inboxes. I'm not throwing around profanities and slurs. I don't even call people stupid... even though some of their takes are so brain-rot-inducing as to make me want to rip our hair out.
I'm firmly against that sort of behavior because I find it counterproductive.
So what does this view actually change?
It is possible to be inclusive of both sides.
It's not.
Sorry.
You can't be tolerant to the intolerant.
Being inclusive to sysmeds gives them the opportunity to spread system medicalism. Maybe you can change their minds over a long period of time, but maybe they come into your spaces, spread toxicity, and even indoctrinate impressionable people with their hate.
Ideas can spread like viruses, and I think hate should be treated as a viral infection. At least when it's small enough to be effectively quarantined.
Moreover, a space that's inclusive towards sysmeds can't be a safe space for their victims.
This, for the most part, isn't personal. It's not about punishing people for being bad. It's just about ensuring their ideas can't spread further and harm others.
That anon said nothing about hating endo systems or being intolerant of them. They said this is why people with trauma histories might become upset when linking plurality as a whole to DID caused by trauma.
What they're referring to, specifically, is honestly a bit unclear. It was about why people with DID are "upset about plurality." And there are a lot of ways the can be interpreted. Although I don't think it's a leap to say that the "hurt people hurt people" line was alluding to people who actively attack and/or harass endogenic and pro-endo systems.
I didn't get the impression that it was about linking plurality to DID, but rather the plurality itself.

[“Tuck: Mm. Well, we have a tradition on this show that if someone self-describes as femme, we ask what femme means to them.
Leah: Ooh, I love that.
Tuck: Yeah, and I’d say you say “femme” on maybe every single page of Care Work alone [Leah laughs], sooo… what does it mean to you?
Leah: Yeah, I would say that femme is a multiverse. It’s always important for me to say like it’s one big, huge, ocean with a lot of different currents in it. It’s a lot of different kinds of queer, and I think there’s ways specifically for me, as I’ve been able to name myself as non-binary as a word in the last 5 or 6 years or so, or more than that even. It’s really taken me back to like, what’s my femme root? And it’s a thing that I think that is maybe not true for every femme who came up in the 90’s, but for me and a lot of people I know it is, I’m like, femme was never “girl”, and it was never “woman”. I wouldn’t have said oh it's a genderqueer identity, other people did, like Cyrée Jarelle Johnson has amazing early writing where he’s like, no femme is always non-binary, it’s always trans, and he makes some really amazing arguments that way.
If you’d asked me in’ 96, is femme genderqueer, I would have been like mmmhhh, but what I did know was that, like my friend Amira made this really beautiful sculpture that just says “femme is for free” and I was like, yay it’s like a portal out of all the ways that being somebody who’s feminized is about pain and oppression and violence. And for me, it was always, again without using that word, a genderqueer identity, it was like, I’m not a girl. I’m not a woman. I kinda itch when I hear those things. And then later on, ironically as there was more organized femme community, I would go to the femme conferences that were happening that were amazing spaces, and that really, I’ve got to say never were like oh, no, no, this is just for the ladies, the cis ladies, but I was like oh there are a lot of femmes out there that are like cis women who really like a 1950’s rockabilly look, and that’s so not me. And I didn’t know it was gender feels, but I was like wow, I feel really ugly next to you. And I feel like I’m trying to do your look, and it’s just not working. And it makes me want to rip my skin off.
So for me, I had an experience in the early 2000’s where there were transmasculine people and femmes. And femmes were not assumed to be trans or non-binary at all. There were a few exceptions, like I had a few friends who were trans women or trans femmes who were partnered with trans guys, but that was pretty rare, and in a lot of kind of AFAB queer community, it was just like there’s trans guys and there’s femmes, and to be femme was to kind of be the girls auxiliary of this setup. There was just so few representations of, I don’t know, trans masculinity of color, you know, and a lot of the models out there that I knew of that I saw around being trans were really binaries. And that wasn’t the fault of any of us, I mean it was the fault of, we were still dealing with the Harry Benjamin system, where it was like, you’ve got to be a guy if you want to get T, and there’s no middle ground. And there was a lot of language then about like, yeah, your job is to kind of be the perfect girlfriend, the perfect support person, and there’s a lot of language of oh you know, transmasculine people are going through this second boyhood, this second teenager-hood, so you’ve gotta really be the girl to make them feel like the boy, and there were just so many ways that binary stuff, sexist stuff, gender stuff, was really not questioned at all in there. And there wasn’t room for me to be like, hey, I’m femme, but I’m not cis and I’m not this kind of perfect girlfriend who my gender is existing to kind of maximize your gender.
And so I think out of that kind of shmear of reality, a lot of femmes I know of different genders have come out about being non-binary or trans, or we’ve figured out different ways to inhabit our genders or explore gender in the past decade, you know, ish, definite in the past like 5 or 6 years, and I think a lot of it has to do with both the enormous work that as femmes we’ve done to create femme community where there’s a multiplicity of femmes speaking to each other, to the work of transfemmes to really unpack the misogyny and sexism in a lot of femme and trans communities. And also things like the beginnings of just harm reduction and openness, and doing away with the Harry Benjamin standard so that people can go and get, can try out microdosing hormones or be like I want this kind of surgery, this kind of gender-affirming care. I don’t just have to kinda get this thing that’s off the rack. I get to kinda design my own gender care. And I think that that’s all this together has created room for all femmes, and all people, but I want to say specifically a lot of femmes who are Generation X or older femmes, to be able to really explore our genders and come out as trans and non-binary and inhabit the world in our bodies and our genders the way we want them to be. Which we did not have room to do or even really think about 15, 20, 30 years ago.
Tuck: Right.
Leah: Yeah, I mean I guess the TLDR is like, femme is for free, and if it’s not about freedom, then it’s not femme. That’s my answer. That’s my story.”]

Pairing: Uzui x Fem!Reader
The Emptiness You Left
The next afternoon when you wake up, you put on the new clothes that Uzui had given you, but before you leave your room, you notice a small box sitting on your dresser. You walk over and carefully unwrap the contents inside, revealing a silver chain with a single pendant attached to it. You're not sure what this means, but you put it on anyway.
You then walk downstairs to greet the others and apologize to them for sleeping in so late, but not a single one of them is home. You search each of the rooms before waiting hours on end for any of them to return. Then, once the sun begins to descend beneath the horizon, you realize it's time to go.
The walk to town is rather quiet, except for the occasional person who passes by. The wind is gentle, and the sky is clear. It's a beautiful night, but your nerves are making you anxious. When you finally reach where you're meant to go, you spot Rengoku. Your eyes narrow, though, as you quickly notice that something is off. He seems to be holding a man, or maybe a demon, that is bound by rope.
"Kyojuro-" you begin, but he quickly cuts you off.
"Hey, Y/N, glad to see you got here safely. Are you alright?" he hums just loud enough for your words to get drowned out.
"I'm fine," you nod, biting down on the inside of your cheek as thoughts from last night begin to flood through your mind.
"What did your master tell you about this?" he then asks, tightening his grip on his bound prisoner.
"He said," you reply softly as you look between him and the person in his grasp who is definitely a person, "that he doesn't approve of this plan."
Rengoku's eyes widen and a grin appears on his face. "Oh? So it finally happened, huh? He admitted his love for his precious student."
"No, of course not," you scoff, lying straight through your teeth. "It's not like that."
"Are you sure?" he smirks.
"Absolutely," you nod.
"Good," he replies, his tone shifting from teasing to serious. He then shoves the random captor in your arms and you realize that he is, in fact, a man. "Let's go. It's time for us to meet him."
The two of you make your way into the town and, once you are far enough in, Rengoku turns and looks at you. "This is only going to work if you listen to what I say and follow my instructions perfectly. Do you understand?"
"Yeah, I got it," you nod.
"Alright, let's get started then," he says, his hand coming to rest on the hilt of his sword. "I presume you already know that you will be re-entering the cult. Our plan to keep you alive for now is that you will provide Doma with a fresh supply of food, uh, I mean supporters," he changes his phrasing as he looks over at the bound man. "For that reason, Doma will keep you alive. Then, while you are there, you will have time to find your brother."
"Wait, hold on," you interrupt, already confused. "Where is this fresh supply coming from? This guy isn't a demon."
Rengoku laughs at your comment. "No, of course not. He's a volunteer! Well, really a jackass who was going around raping women. He has been in the system for a long time." His smile turns darker before he continues. "Doma will surely enjoy his free breakfast."
The man's eyes widen as he begins to struggle in your grasp. "Please," he calls out to you as he loosens the rope around his mouth from all the moving. "You can't let them kill me! I'll do anything! I will never touch another woman again!"
"Quiet," Rengoku demands as he places his blade against the man's neck.
"Please, you have to believe me," he cries. "I have a family."
Without a sound, you punch the man in the stomach, causing him to fall to his knees. "You lost your chance the moment you laid your filthy hands on the poor souls of innocent women."
"Thank you," Rengoku hums as he pulls his sword away and takes a step back.
"I won't let you down, Lord Rengoku," you assure him.
He nods as he kneels down beside the criminal and lifts his chin to face him. "Be a good boy and let Y/N take care of you, okay?" he tells the prisoner before forcing him back up to his feet. "Don't be a little bitch and cause her any trouble. Or else."
With that, Rengoku turns his attention to you. "One more thing. Every day after the sun has risen, we will meet here and I will give you your next volunteer. Now go before the sun comes up."
You nod and take your leave, stringing your new captive along behind you.
Somehow, your feet carry you exactly where you want to go and the front gate to Doma's so-called paradise is standing before you. "I'm back," you breathe, feeling like the world is falling from beneath you.
"Fuck you," your prisoner grumbles, earning another punch in the gut.
"Hey!" a guard suddenly notices you from the other side of the tall gate. "Why are you here? What do you want?!"
"To meet Lord Doma, god of the earth," you respond with a wide grin that catches the guard by surprise. "I have a meal just for him."
The guard exchanges a look with another who seems to have popped up out of thin air behind you. "Besides," you add. "He knows how I smell and I'm quite sure he'll be displeased if he finds out you refused to let me in."
The guards share another look, this time more concerned. "This is a sacred place. It is not for outsiders."
"Come now," you chuckle, tugging on your prisoner's leash. "Look at what I've brought. Is it not the world which is the sacred place in need of Lord Doma's help? I can assure you that I am no outsider and I'd be quite glad to rid the world of unpure beings such as this one."
The guard behind you narrows his eyes and then takes a few steps forward, getting close enough to examine the man's features.
"Fine," he agrees. "Let her pass. I will bring her to see Lord Doma."
Just as he says, the gates are pulled open and you are allowed inside. You and your prisoner are led through the courtyard and past the gardens. Eventually, you're brought to the front doors of the grand temple.
"Wait here," the guard tells you.
You do as he says, watching silently as he enters the temple and vanishes inside. But it's only a moment later when he reappears and holds the door open. "Lord Doma will see you now."
"Thank you," you nod before turning to the criminal. "Come."
The man's eyes widen with fear as you both cautiously walk into the temple. The air inside is suffocating, filled with an energy that sends shivers down your spine. The room unfolds before you, revealing an opulent room bathed in golden hues. Intricate carvings of dragons and other unknown creatures decorate the walls. Above, a grand chandelier casts a luminous glow, highlighting the demon sitting in the center.
Doma sits on an ornate sofa, his presence echoing an air of importance that sends a chill through the space.
"Lord Doma," you bow before him. "I am here to offer myself to you in exchange for asylum at your glorious palace. I have brought the first of my plentiful sacrifices, a gift that will surely be accepted with great appreciation."
"I am honored by your devotion, my child," the demon speaks, his voice smooth and lulling.
You look up to see him rise from the couch and approach you, his eyes shining with mischief.
"But I do know what a trap is when I see one. Tell me, who sent you? And who let you in?!"
The guard behind you mutters a long string of apologies and curses directed at your name. But you don't dare to move until Doma stops before you.
"Leave the food and go," he answers the guard, shooing him out of the room.
You gulp, unsure of what he is about to do.
"Get on your knees, my child," he then instructs as he takes the man's leash from you.
"My Lord," you hum as you do as he asks. "I know of all demons and what they do. My parents were killed by demons when I was young, but I have no quarrel with them ow, I can assure you. In fact, it is my wish to use demons to my benefit. To help the world in which I live," you lie to his face.
"And how are you to do that?" he wonders, his lips curling up in a grin.
"This man I have brought you is one of the worst kinds," you begin, knowing you will need to sell your story. "He is the lowest of the low, preying on the weak and the helpless. He has committed the worst crimes against humanity and I can assure you that no one will miss him. Demons will get rid of these people and that is why I've come here today."
"Oh?" he tilts his head, intrigued by your words. "Well, that is interesting. What did you say you wanted in return?"
"Asylum," you reply, still facing the ground. You don't think you could look up at him, anyway. Thoughts flood your mind and anger only boils within you just by looking into his eyes. "I will supply you food in exchange for asylum in your temple."
"Well, it would be rude not to accept such a generous gift," he muses, yanking the man closer to him. "But how will you manage to supply me with a steady flow of food? How can I be sure that this is not just a ploy to infiltrate my ranks? Surely there must be a way to prove that you are on my side."
"I am proving my loyalty by showing you what I have done for you today," you answer quickly. "There's not a single human that can deny there are other disgusting humans in this world, just like the one I have brought you, my lord. He tortures and kills. He is not worthy of this world and it's only right that I hand him over to you to do with as you please. That is what I am willing to do. That is how I am willing to prove myself."
"Couldn't one make the case that demons are the same, my dear?" he replies, sitting back in his chair and tugging the man to his knees before him.
"No," you shake your head, lifting your eyes slightly to see your prisoner before you. "You are a god. You have a greater purpose. Like a hero in a world that is in dire need of saviors. This world needs you."
"Well," he hums, his hands reaching down to undo the binds on the man's wrists. He's very obviously too scared to make a run for it. "You certainly do know how to sweet talk a demon. It's an alliance you're after, yes?"
"Yes, my lord."
"Well then," he sighs. "I suppose I can make a deal with you... including conditions of my own, that is."
"Anything," you answer, lifting up to place your left foot on the ground.
"One," he begins as he lifts up his pointer finger. "You must stay here. Two, I will eat this food in exchange for your own life. And three, the food must be pure and human."
You cautiously nod your head. "Done."
He then sighs once more and shakes his head. You can tell by the way the man flinches each time Doma moves in the slightest. "Of course, it has to be you. Why is it you, of all the humans, that I must trust."
You gulp, not quite prepared to answer that question. "Because there are no other humans willing to put themselves in the same position that I am. We are not the same, my lord, but we do have the same goals. You kill for a cause and so do I."
The Emptiness You Left

I'm just super not in the mood to write at the moment.
🤷‍♀️
I am playing, though.
I played a bunch of TS4, and I have thoughts. I love my sim, but I'm also having trouble staying engaged with it. I love that all the neighborhoods are basically stitched together into one uberhood, so I can go visit anywhere at any time. OTOH, all the loading screens and teleportation between lots leads to a sense of disconnect.
I really like how sims can talk to each other while doing almost anything else. More TS3 interactions COULD support conversations, but almost none of them do. 😡
OTOH, I went on a date to a cafe, and I kept ending up in "Awkward" group conversations when I tried to romance my date. Sometimes other sims are just not invited to join in the conversation. Sure, I'd expect the other cafe patrons to get awkward if we started making out, but not when I'm just rolling down the romantic interactions. Fortunately, my date seemed to be receptive regardless.
I love, love, love the clubs system.
I have the Wonderful Whims attraction system, and I REALLY want an attraction system in my game. But my sim was never attracted to anything. When I looked up her preferences, she just liked men with piercings. There were at least 2 other slots for preferences that were unfilled. There aren't a ton of men with piercings, and the only one she had a conversation with was married to another man, whoops. Finally, I added a piercing to a single guy she had naturally built a strong relationship with, and then he started showing up with TWO piercings -- one on either side of his nose. So did he autonomously add the other one?
The reproductive system stuff in Wonderful Whims is really great, very natural. Except the part where my sim got Flirty because of period hormones. From my personal experience at least, that NEVER happens. I guess other folks have a different story. 😆
And here's a stupid thing -- I want to move out of my little starter home, but there are so few lots overall and much fewer empty residential lots that I'm having trouble figuring out a next step up home to move into. I can place one, but it just seems weird to being having trouble upgrading my home.
Finally -- you can only get 3 wants a time? In TS3, you can lock in 4, and with an NRaas tweak, you can also fulfill the 2-5 unlocked ones you have floating around at any given time. My sim is a Glutton, and at least half of her wishes are to eat snacks. Sometimes she wants to talk to people. I've gotten my first big life want to ask a guy to be her boyfriend. I like to follow my sim's wishes around, and so far that hasn't done much.

Do you feel Awakening's plot was let down by the need to be a male power fantasy, IE: kill lots of ugly people without remorse, get praised by everyone, all the woman want the avatar, ETC?
hmmmmm. good question. I don't think it's a power fantasy, per se - FE heavily ascribes to the design philosophy of "only beautiful people can be good", which is horrible for a lot of reasons, but I feel in this aspect it's plot structure is more hampered by the fact that it is a video game, and every chapter needs a Battle.
That's how you get basically every single generic brigand. There's a lull in the action, as characters talk, get to know each other, travel to the next relevant location. But you can't put any important battles inbetween, because those moments need to be slow - thus, an enemy who could just as easily be removed from the story without changing it.
In another game I like, Lord of Heroes, it's almost a running gag - the protagonist sees someone important, and wonders when they'll have to fight the next new guy, cuz We Need Boss Battles, even when the characters have no real need to fight each other. This is how you get comical misunderstandings only resolved after trashing each other, or your typical "I need to test your strength first" shtick.
These characters are engineered to be unimportant, for their deaths to mean nothing except some extra exp. It's just a problem baked into every FE game's chapter structure.
To compare to another SRPG, Triangle Strategy - you don't have plot unimportant combat in the story, ever. It's all optinal. Like yeah, there's bandits now and again, but the bandits are actually reoccuring characters, one of whom you can recruit, so they are made to be enjoyed as characters and sympathized with. The bandit characters even make good points sometimes! There's a part in the game where the main characters are involved in a black market smuggling deal, and bandits catch them transporting illegal goods. So, the bandit questions, what makes you rightous in this situation? Why is it right when you're doing it, but wrong when she does? What, because your goal is noble? What does it matter when you've sunk to the rock bottom of morality already?
However, Tristrat has an entirely different plot structure to FE. It also has a chapter system, but not every chapter includes combat. Some chapters only feature cutscenes, or exploration segments.
The game is just set up differently in a way that lets the plot breathe without forcing conflict. Combat gameplay isn't the main draw or a necessity. I'd fucking adore Tristrat if it had no combat whatsoever - It's the opposite of FE. Plot doesn't exist because combat needs to happen, no, combat only exists because the plot occasionally necessitates it.
Okay, this has been my triade on the disposable enemy archetype of Generic Brigand. To the next point - well, is Awakening a male power fantasy?
From the main plot? Not really. Like, yeah, sure, the avatar is the only person who can marry whoever. That's to give the player the opportunity to romance their favorite, I won't deny it. But the main plot itself doesn't have anyone fawn over Robin (besides Chrom). Hell, you could even go without finding out about Tharja's devotion to them if you benched her and never read her supports. Since her whole thing with Robin isn't included in her recruitment chapter at all. That utterly blindsided me when I played, cuz all I knew about her was "Robin simp." and then she didn't even simp robin in her first appearance.
If we're talking "recruiting lots of girls to your army constitutes a harem" then like, every FE game would be a harem. They're not. The game even forces you to be monogamous. I'd argue Fates is worse in this, because characters start falling in love and blushing profusely by A-support, even when they're already married, so everyone is Schrödinger's Cheating. In Awakening support chains, there's never really any romance outside of the sudden S support marriage proposal. I'll admit S-supports are well put together in recontextualizing the previous supports as falling in love, but all of them can also be left at A for a perfectly fine platonic dynamic between all characters.
Robin themself doesn't emphasize their own strength and intellect much, even if it is impressive in the world of the game. It's all about their bonds with others, how others give them strength and hope and all that good stuff. Robin is a well-developed character with positives and negatives. They're not just a blank slate. Hell, man, there's a whopping three choices you can make in the plot, and only one of them actually changes anything, and the first one is actually a choice for Chrom instead. Robin has their own thoughts and feelings and a great arc and if you ignore that in favor of "they're just me fr" then that's a you problem tbh.
You can argue till the cows come home about beauty standards and colorism in FE enemy design, fuck knows that I can freely admit a lot of Awakening enemy designs are racist as all hell, but that's sadly not unique to Awakening. Generic Brigands are ugly to signal that they're unimportant and morally corrupt and it's fine to kill them because only pretty people have morals. The only black people in Awakening are the shadowy desert cultists and the leaders of the "barbaric meathead" nation, so go figure what the game was trying to signal on that front. It's just shit design.
Awakening's finale actually makes me think of your typical fairytale hero story, and it's a great subversion of "the knight in shining armor kills the evil dragon to save the land." In that way, it's also a great subversion of other FE stories, since that summary is a lot of them in a nutshell.
Binding Blade did the subversion first though. Grima is just Idunn 2 (actual bastard edition) and I adore them for it (that much is obvious).
So like TLDR no, I don't think Awakening is a male power fantasy, because the main plot itself doesn't focus on romance or how awesome the main character is whatsoever. Less power fantasy, more "power of friendship" fantasy.

Naruto and Obito's Dynamic
I've been giving this a lot of thought and people often take it so lightly or even shit all over Naruto when he told that cunt Black Zetsu that Obito's nothing but awesome to him...
And there is a reason why that Naruto respects Obito so much despite everything that happened.
That's because Naruto would have done the exact same thing if he was the one who snapped and turned evil.
Naruto realized that he had absolutely NO place to judge him, when he knew that if things had just taken the wrong turn, he'd be just as evil. The best thing about Naruto is his maturity and self-awareness at his age because of everything he went through. His best power is empathy.
How, you may ask? Well... taking a look at Naruto's past... wasn't he always lonely and isolated by the villagers for a fate that he had no control over?
If Naruto did not see any good in the world, he'd make sure that every person would taste the despair and solitude he felt all those years by taking away their loved ones too; just to show them what it felt like to treat him this way, and just to see them crumble and be consumed by the fear of solitude and loneliness.
Yet it was in Naruto's favor that he found his people; when Obito unfortunately had no one to support his views other than Rin.
In what way did Rin support his views, you might ask?
Obito was ALWAYS against the system of the shinobi world. He basically rolls the opposite direction - he was never a "sheep" to their rules. Prioritize the mission? No. Save your comrades first. Strike a war for power? No. Enough sacrificing child soldiers and strive for peace. Enough blood spilling, enough living in a world where it only takes, and takes, and TAKES.
And Rin also shared the same feelings too; we just needed to read between the lines to see that. She wanted to stop wars, she wanted to stop seeing people die for the sake of political powers, she wanted people to live happily, and she too, wanted peace. It's something that really tightened her bond with Obito even more, and that's why she wanted to support the struggling Uchiha because he wasn't all talk to her - she always saw how he was working so hard against his own imperfections to become a Hokage who would work so hard to bring peace and eradicate the injustice of the system; and she wanted to see her best friend reach all those goals because she truly, truly, saw his potential.
As for Kakashi, even though deep down, he was doubtful and struggling with the rules of the shinobi system, went with the flow because of the trauma he suffered from Sakumo's death. It changed him 180 degrees and he cannot be blamed for it. His father was everything to him and children often mimic their heroes, and his father was his true hero until the tragedy happened. Kakashi was left to fend for himself, and when someone tried to throw at his face how the rules are flawed, Kakashi only remained in denial and just scoffed and shut it down because he didn't want to hear any of it.
Obito was the only one who woke him up and showed him that being a sheep to the injustice only brings tragedy, and that it needed to be stopped - starting by prioritizing your comrades. The best thing is that Obito didn't give a single flying f-ck about what the villagers would say as long as he stood by what was right; and it took a brutal event to make Kakashi see that his own father was right all along.
Obito had no one except Team Minato.
But imagine feeling let down by your own teacher? A person who he always looked up to and was lucky enough to be his student? He could have saved her. He could have saved the team. He could have done something - but in Obito's eyes, he was just as bad as everyone. Just as bad as the system. Then watching the person you entrusted a promise to keep the one and only person who means the world to you safe - only to see that promise broken in the most brutal way because of the goddamned system that forced Rin to be a Jinchuuriki (only for Kirigakure's desire to destroy Konoha), and forced her to take her life for the sake of Konoha. The war never stopped. Blood spilling didn't stop... and it also took the person he loved so much.
The despair made his sanity snap like a twig and darkness consumed him. Madara's manipulation was not helping either - because Madara saw the world the same way too, and it only made Obito feel like Madara was the only one walking with the truth and with the solution to fix everything that everyone failed to do.
And Naruto was able to see through all of that, bit by bit. Obito tends to manipulate people by using their weaknesses and darkness against them like a true devil, in order to lure them to his own dark path, but he could NOT do that to Naruto because Naruto was pulled away from that path by the right people.
At the same time, Naruto couldn't judge Obito for being the way he was, but Naruto also knew that if Obito had the right people around him, then things would be different in the best way possible. He would've been the shinobi world's protector, rather than destroyer; and when Obito redeemed himself, that's all Naruto could see: Not the Obito that snapped, not the Obito that walked the earth in darkness and evil - he only saw the Obito that would have been the true protector of the world.

Who is Jake Lockley? A meta/theory of the show
Fancy title is fancy.
Okay so after watching the finale I find myself having a lot of thoughts and feelings about Jake, as per usual.
So, to start with, I do not believe he’s evil, but I DO get the feeling he would be one of the antagonists (together with Khonshu, who is in some way the big villain in Moon Knight in general) if there is a season 2. In all his “appearances” (read: blackouts) and the end credits scene he has been shown as somebody who is cappable of great violence, so I get that for the moment, at first glance, he might seem evil. The thing is, I believe that season 1 has already left some groundwork behind to stablish where Jake comes from a little bit better, a groundwork that would propell his characterisation in future appearances.
More after the cut!
I will be talking about Marc and Steven as characters and one very important scene in the asylum and how it shines a new light onto who Jake might be, as well as his relationship with Khonshu! (This got long OMG)
Marc, Steven and false duality
The show seems to want to stablish Marc and Steven as complete opposites since the beginning, showing them struggling against each other, their identities clashing with each other (Steven in a pacifist, Marc has violent outburts; Steven is really intelligent and knowledgable, Marc has some amazing fighting prowess; Steven comes out as hopeful, innocent and naive, while Marc seems cynical and strict). This contrast in emphaticed to the viewers by making it seem like they are the only two alters, instantly creating an illusiory duality. As the show goes along we start understanding these characters, why they are how they are, we uncover their hidden depths and follow them in their discovery of themselves and growth as individuals. This way, we see Steven gaining confidence in his knowledge and skills and standing up for himself, to the point of downright antagonizing Khonshu and pressing him to make a deal that would leave Marc and himself out of the god’s grasp. We as the audience see how much Marc has suffered, his distante for killing and guilt over the death of his brother, how the grieves for his mother but yet how cappable he is of love, how much he cares for Layla and Steven, to the point of sacrificing himself for them (making a deal with Khonshu and abandoning the Fields of Reeds). We see him learn to express his feelings and grief and ultimately starting to forgive himself, thanks to Steven’s support.
So, what about Jake?
The thing is, by putting the focus of attention in Marc and Steven and therefore manufacturing this false duality (since their differences are not at all that extreme), the show has made us forget that there are not only two alters, there are three. Intellectually, we know that Jake is there, but since we don’t really get to meet him, we never get to figure out his place in the narrative and, most importantly, in the system.
Now, right after watching the after-credits scene, I started thinking, and there was one particular scene that popped to my mind quite quickly.
The Asylum and Marc’s fears
Remember the asylum? I have seem some people theorice that, taking inspiration from the comics (Lemire’s run, spoilers!), the one behind Marc’s vision of a mental hospital might have been Khonshu, manipulating him by making him doubt his reality. I personally do not agree with this theory, since the asylum only started appearing once Marc and Steven had been shot. I believe it is what it is stated to be in the show: how the Duat presents itself to feel more “comfortable” and familiar to Marc and Steven, plain and simple, no trickery to be found. Therefore, since the Duat seems to feed off the dead traveller’s mind, I think that the scenes between both Marc and Steven and Doctor Harrow are simply manifestations of Marc’s mind (since he’s the most exceptic one and also has the most selfhate), putting every single detail into doubt and repeatting over and over again that he must be crazy, that he cannot trust his own senses and experiences, etc (remember, Marc is the one that shows more resistance to accepting himself and his DID, it takes being possessed by Khonshu and Harrow taking advance of the stigma afaints mental illnesses to get him to admit that he needs help). Therefore, I think that Doctor Harrow could be interpreted and his own self-doubts and hatred, throwing againts him(self) the things that he’s the most insecure and afraid of, although they do make him face them head-front (”is this real? you are just denying reality. You have to face your fears- which is actually helfpul-. Maybe that’s why Steven knows inmmediality that it is an illusion, might even explain why Steven doesn’t have a room of his own: “when danger is near, Steven Grant has no fear”, he doesn’t grown afraid, he is not fearful of not knowing his own reality or facing a painful reality, he always pushes through). That’s the reason why both Marc and Steven see Harrow’s bloody footsteps, refuse to listen to him and “wake up” from the room, Marc has learnt to forgive himself and see his self-hatred for what it is: a deception created to hurt himself, but not a reflection of reality.
Taking this into account, and keeping in mind that according to this theory Doctor Harrow’s words are Marc’s hidden fears, I think this scene is VERY interesting:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Image description: Marc staring at the water inside a cup and then at Doctor Harrow with a look of slight sadness and fear on his face, Doctor Harrow saying “do you think you created Steven to hide from all the awful things you feel you’ve done in your life, or do you think Steven created Marc to punish the world for what your mother did to you?”)
I think that the answer to this question is neither, and both at the same time, just that it doesn’t apply to Steven, but to Jake.
Marc is perfectly aware of who Steven is and what he means to him, he has said to multiple times. He wants to see Steven life a happy, normal life, he loves his hope and how he was always there for him, he wants to protect him and hide him from hurt. He doesn’t fit at all the topic of the question.
But, and Jake? Where does Jake come from? And how does Harrow’s question apply to him?
Lets look at the evidence.
Who is Jake
What have we seen Jake do over and over again? When has he appeared? When Steven and Marc are in extreme danger, and probably about to die (when Harrow’s thugs attacked Steven, the car chase, when Marc faced off against those guys at Cairo, when Harrow was siphoning Khonshu’s power). I believe that Jake, as a lot of people have said, is a protector alter, which, according to did-research.org (which I hope is a good source, please correct me if I use missinformation!) are “alters that protect the body, system, host, core, or other specific alters or groups of alters. Physical protectors might take or try to prevent physical abuse or become aggressive in an attempt to defend against physical abuse”. I believe that every single time Jake has appeared, he has been both preventing either Steven or Marc from dying and actually going one step further and trying to put them out of harm’s way (taking the cab back to the airport in Cairo, leaving the military during Marc’s fugue state and generally killing every one that might be a danger). He’s trying to protect the other alters, not just being mindlessly violent.
Now, the speculation (and actual link to the question, yay!) starts.
Marc absolutely hates killing. While it hasn’t been said outright, he mourns over a room full of his targets saying that he remembers every single one of their faces. He says that, after one point, he wished that one of them might finally kill him instead. He also hates seeing people die, he’s driven to the point of desperation during his time as a mercenary, reaching a peak when he’s unable to protect Layla’s father and the rest of his team from dying. During the finale, we see him choosing to preserve a life, even if it is Harrrow’s, rather than take it.
“do you think you created Steven Jake to hide from all the awful things you feel you’ve done in your life?”
Yes! Jake is the one who, when worst comes to worst and the only way out is to eliminate, to erradicate the danger, takes over and starts shooting. He is the shield between Marc and all the bodies he has had to leave behind, eventually shouldering the responsability to get blood on his hands and therefore sparing Marc and Steven from having to take a life.
But also, what other fear did Marc’s subconscious, in the form of Doctor Harrow, throw at him? What other part of his being was he refusing to face?
“or do you think Steven  you created Marc Jake to punish the world for what your mother did to you?”
And here it is, the dark reality that Marc is hiding, probably the reason why he (together with Steven) he refuses to investigate who is the one fronting and killing their enemies during their blackouts. The reason why Jake is so vicious. The reason why, after the finale, Jake is still working with Khonshu.
Who is Khonshu? In the comics (and, according to Wikipedia, the real Khonsu) he’s the God of the Moon, with epipeths as  "Embracer," "Pathfinder," and "Defender", he’s the god of those who travel at night, their protector. In the show, while his nature as god of the moon and night sky is more than proven, there is a huge emphasis of another of his aspects: that of vengeance, played as opposite of Ammit and her preventive condemn. Khonshu, through his Fist, punishes those that have done wrong (specifically against travellers of the night).
Tumblr media
(Image description: Marc hesitates before striking the final blow on Harrow, meanwhile Khonsu says “the choice is vengeance”)
Jake is a traveller and a pathfinder through his job as a cab (limo now) driver, he is Marc and Steven’s Protector by taking the need to spill blood upon himself, but Jake is also the person who punishes the world for what your Marc’s mother did to you him” Jake is Marc’s Vengeance.
And that’s why he keeps working with Khonshu, that’s why, while both Marc and Steven have managed to grow past their roles and go on with their life, Jake is still keeping the deal with Khonshu. He hasn’t appeared on the show, he hasn’t experienced the same character development as the other two alters, he’s still stuck is his initial, bloody role as protector and avenger.
What Jake’s future might be
Taking all of this into account, I believe that in future works Jake is going to go through the same journey that both Steven and Marc have experienced this season. He is going to face the place where he comes from, how he perceives himself and his role, he’s going to grow into his individuality and needs. I personally think that one of the themes of this finale is going to be crucial, a theme that Layla, Marc, Steven and Khonshu fight for: choice. The hability to choose for yourself who you want to be, what you want to do, the hability to be your own master, freedom. I think that, taking into account that right now he is still under Khonshu’s comand, Jake’s right to chose for himself and his freedom are going to play a huge role in his character arc.
Obviously, at the beginning he is going to be an antagonistic figure, but I think that after reading this meta it can be said that Jake is not, by himself, a bad person. He just wants to protect Marc and Steven, to fight for them. He’s the one who is willing to get the work done when it’s too much even for Marc, he’s the one who retaliates after the evils inflicted on the other two alters and the travellers, their avengers. I think his arc would consist on learning to trust Marc and Steven and their strength, as well as losing the vicciousness and desensibilitation to violence that so many years of putting himself on the front line have made him grow used to. And I, for one, cannot wait to see him do it.
Anyways, thanks for reading! I hope you liked my theory/meta, if you have anything to add please do so! Moon Knight has really become one of my fav media (comics and show) and would love to hear your thoughts about it!

Extras Profile: The BATs
One of the grand positives of “The Owl House” is that it devotes exceptional care to what I call the Big Three story elements: setting, characters, and - even more in the second season - plot. One facet of the characters is the truly incredible variety and creativity of the character design, from the main characters, to recurring and even minor characters.
An excellent example of this trend is the Bards Against The Throne. AKA, the BATs - hiss!
Introduced officially in “Eda’s Requiem,” one member first appeared as far back as the series premiere. The then-unnamed “Fanfic Girl” is a fanged, olive-skinned witch thrown in the Conformatorium for writing fanfiction about food falling in love. She introduces Luz to the restrictive nature of the facility and sparks the human’s compassion for those she sees as much like her. Though spirited, she is also hesitant to escape the facility along with two other inmates before Luz gives a rousing speech that has them fighting and defeating the warden.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This girl would reappear after a full twenty-four episodes as one of the followers of Raine Whispers, the Head Bard who plans to undermine the coven system. With her given name revealed as Katya, she is further shown to be a member of the Bard Coven who channels magic through a tambourine. A little more of her personality is shown, too, such as a more light-hearted teasing side, a genuine desire to help people, and an understandable fear of the Conformatorium.
Along with Katya’s return are the introductions of Derwin and Amber.
Tumblr media
Derwin, a dark-skinned young man with pince-nez glasses, is given the least separate character, but still shown to be open-minded, down-to-earth, and seemingly tactical as he helps Raine explain the BATs goals. He also seems to have little endurance, as Katya carries his sleeping self home after a late night of rebel work. He plays a bassoon and has skill with smoke.
Finally, Amber is a pink-skinned and fair-haired demon who somewhat resembles a bat, complete with tiny wings on the back of her shoulders. She acts overtly childish in being suspicious Eda before flipping to enthusiastic support when Eda’s skills help grant them overwhelming success in a single mission. This implies she’s somewhat younger than her fellow rebels. She also has tons of energy, still bright and lively after a full night of work while everyone else is exhausted, which only adds to her youthful demeanor. She uses a recorder for her magic and seems skilled with the Bard equivalent of a sleeping spell.
Tumblr media
After being transported to the Conformatorium when captured by Darius, the BATs reappear as a group in “Ot Titan, Where Art Thou,” having been freed by Darius to join the larger rebel force formed to oppose the Day of Unity. Helping Eda and the rest sneak into the arena at the Head, they are captured by Abomatons and presumably turned into puppets by the Collector.
Their last appearances, in season three, are alongside Steve the former scout in helping to rebuild the Boiling Isles and form relations with former scouts. They also attend Luz’s eighteenth birthday, implying that they have become close acquaintances with Luz in their own right over the intervening four years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The BATs are an example of minor recurring characters given distinguished and creative designs, offering enrichment to the cast and a great recall as far as the premiere. We can only thank the crew for their ingenuity in this wonderful series.
Thanks for reading! More to come …!

While I was gathering the High School USA gifs, I couldn't help imagining scenarios where Marty, APK, and JJ are all interacting with each other. Idk if it would be a case of "identical strangers" or alternate timeline versions, but it would be fun. Especially with Marty and JJ! The many similarities and slight contrasts between them could make for some interesting stuff. In particular...
The fact that both of them don't exactly have happy home lives (at least not original timeline Marty). George and Lorraine, while physically present in Marty's life, aren't emotionally there and have their respective issues going on. Meanwhile, JJ's parents aren't physically or emotionally there. His character is alone in an empty house most of the time (I can't remember why--I think his parents travel a lot?), and they dont seem to really care much about him, so he's kind of raising himself without any real parental support system. [EDIT: I went back to check. JJ's father is always traveling, and JJ never knows when he's coming home. He hasn't seen his mother since he was 2 years old.]
They both have nerdy, science-loving best friends! Marty has Doc, obviously, and JJ has Otto, whose main storyline involves his quest to build this huge robot that mostly just ends up walking around and destroying things; it's great.
Tumblr media
↑ Otto, in his very first scene meant to clearly convey, "Hey, this guy is a nerd." Look at all that sciencey stuff. He even has a framed picture of Albert Einstein!
Speaking of nerds, JJ is also one. Except, he's not the smart kind; he's the "outcast, class-clown" kind. JJ is just not considered cool by his peers, especially since his social circle mainly consists of other outcasts and "weirdos." Now, I don't think Marty is quite that ostracized by his own peers--he does dress cool, has a band, and skateboards--but I've never pictured Marty as being part of the in-crowd. His personality (sweet, sensitive, low self-esteem, etc) and the fact that his best friend is a widely disliked/rumored to be dangerous and crazy scientist probably puts Marty more on the fringes of most social groups rather than in any popular crowds. This is another thing they'd be able to relate to each other on.
Also! Perhaps my favorite thing would be just...sticking them in a room and watching them attempt to converse or attend to anything for longer than 5 seconds because. JJ is every bit as adhd as Marty is. Like. JJ is all over the place. He's late for school all the time like Marty is and basically lives in the principal's office because he's time-blind and scattered and always goofing off. One of my favorite scenes (and what spurred this whole concept) is where JJ has been sent to the office because he's in trouble again, and through the whole scene, JJ is just touching everything on the principal's desk as he talks. So as he keeps reaching for things, the principal keeps having to grab them back and move them to a place JJ can't get to until there's nothing left on the desk. And the whole scene is played like they do this every single time and the principal is so tired of it. [I think I'll gif this scene hmm]. Anyway! It got me thinking, "Wouldn't it be fun to stick these two in a situation together and watch them literally not be able to stay still or remain on a singular topic for more than 2 seconds."
Now, for a slight contrast: JJ loves Hawaiian shirts. Aside from the very last scene of the movie, where he wears a tuxedo, he's in Hawaiian shirts for the entire film. Not Marty's taste, clothing-wise, BUT! He does happen to have Doc, who is also a Hawaiian shirt aficionado. They can bond over that.
Additionally, a thing I find hilarious: the Crispin Glover Factor. I've neglected Alex P. Keaton in the scenario thus far, but this is a spot where I'd love to throw him into the mix since Crispin is in BTTF, Family Ties, and High School USA. And I just can't get over an imagined scene where, not only are JJ, Alex, and Marty weirded out by their own identical faces, but they realize they also all have this Other Person in their lives who shares the strange predicament. Like, maybe one of them has a picture or something and Marty's like, "Hey, that's my dad when he was younger" and Alex goes, "Um, no, that's my friend Doug," and JJ is all, "?? What? That's my buddy Archie." And it leaves them all so confused because, as far as they can tell, they don't have any other look-alikes that they share in their lives. It's just themselves and for some reason Crispin Glover. Weird.
So, yeah, thanks for coming to my rambling, everyone.

Hello! I had asked for your JadeSil headcanons and I really liked your point of view, I think it matches their canon personalities a lot! Jade taking an interest in Silver until Jade sees him as more than a friend and Silver not realizing Jade's true feelings until someone tells him. Well, I'm still hungry for more JadeSil headcanons, it's a ship that I love because they're two of my fave characters and their dynamic seems interesting and fun to explore. So can I ask for some more headcanons please?
Of course!  I'm so happy you enjoyed my previous headcanons!  Jade and Silver are some of my favorite characters as well, especially Silver... if my blog hasn’t already made that abundantly clear, haha...
Alright, so.  I think that the two of them get pretty serious as a couple rather quickly.  This means that showing each other their respective childhood homes and meeting their families occurs early on.  Luckily, with the portal magic they have, they’re able to take these little trips over one of NRC’s long weekends.  At first, Jade is a bit nervous to have Silver visit the Coral Sea, as that requires him revealing his true form—but to his infinite relief, his boyfriend seems awfully calm about the entire thing.  In all actuality, Silver is quite moved by this show of trust and vulnerability, and assures Jade that he’s beautiful no matter what form he takes.  Meeting Jade’s parents goes over just as smoothly—though they’re somewhat distant and seem apprehensive about what Silver hopes to gain from their relationship, with his natural charm and Floyd’s support, it remains a polite, surface-level affair and no issues are raised.
Having a formal get together with Silver’s family, on the other hand, is pure insanity.  During their trip to Briar Valley, they aren’t allowed a single moment of peace.  Somehow, it has become Lilia and Malleus’ personal mission to tell Jade every single embarrassing detail about Silver’s childhood that they can think of, which he enjoys immensely.  Meanwhile, Sebek is convinced that Jade is only there to steal all of Malleus’ secrets for future leverage, and follows them around everywhere.  This annoys Silver to no end—and it only gets worse.  Much to his absolute horror, Lilia insists on cooking dinner for the five of them, and even Malleus is powerless to stop him.  Thankfully, Jade has an impenetrable poker face and even manages a bit of practiced flattery; by the end of the night, he’s won the Diasomnia gang over completely (except Sebek, but there’s a grudging acknowledgment there).  Silver later takes him out on another dinner date to apologize for the damage done to his digestive system.
Speaking of which, I think that their dates are pretty lowkey.  In addition to keeping each other company during meals, studying, work, etc. and hiking together, they will do things like watching the sunset/sunrise, strolling through the garden, and stargazing.  On more than one occasion, Silver tries to teach Jade how to ride a horse, while Jade enlists his help with tending to his mushroom terrarium.  And, very rarely, Jade will find his boyfriend napping in some secluded location and join him in resting.  When Silver wakes up, he’ll smile and nestle closer, admiring the rare sight of Jade without any of his guards up.
Okay, switching gears now... Like I stated in my other post, I think that Jade and Silver would be relatively unproblematic together.  However, this doesn’t mean that there’s no fights between them whatsoever.  I believe that their rare conflicts would center around the impact of their jobs on their relationship—specifically as it pertains to Silver and Malleus.  Guarding someone takes up quite a lot of time and Jade, being slightly possessive, can sometimes feel neglected in the face of his boyfriend’s sense of duty, especially when there’s another man involved.  Though I don’t think Silver would ever cancel on plans for work, it’s the constant need to reject Jade’s proposed dates that irks him so, especially with another man involved.  And Silver’s not without his grievances either: catching wind of his boyfriend’s secretive business ventures from absolute strangers often leaves him feeling hurt and upset at the other.  In order to resolve these problems, the two of them must take the time to sit down and explicitly communicate with each other.
First of all, to address Jade’s jealousy, Silver has to recognize how it appears that he’s been prioritizing Malleus over him.  Luckily, once he does, there’s a simple enough fix—with the help of Lilia and Malleus, who readily agree with his decisions, they negotiate a work schedule for him that accommodates more of his social life; in turn, Jade promises to be more patient and understanding in the future.  However, I believe that Silver’s problems with Jade’s work would still remain a point of contention for a little while longer.  While Jade’s secrecy comes from a place of wanting to protect his boyfriend from the darker aspects of his job—in which clients often get violent and take whatever means necessary to exact revenge—rather than some manipulative ploy, Silver certainly doesn’t see it that way.  Because Jade won’t display his emotions, he can’t comprehend just how afraid the boy is to lose him over the less savory side of his personality... something that Jade struggles to admit even to himself.  It takes a bit of waiting for Jade to gather the courage to explain to Silver the true motives behind his actions, and a bit more for Silver to come to terms with this is a profession he isn’t willing to give up.  In the end, they must reach a mutual understanding of how Jade will keep his relationship and work life separate while Silver won’t interfere so long as he isn’t doing anything blatantly illegal or hurting himself.
Traveling in the same vein of thought about how everything isn’t always sunshine and rainbows... I think that the two of them have somewhat warped or unconventional views on relationships.  In the game, Jade and Floyd have hinted at coming from a family involved in some sort of shady activity... which has lead to the popular theory that their parents are fish mafioso.  This doesn’t necessarily indicate that they make an unhealthy pairing, per se, but I think it’s safe to assume that such a background does have some sort of noticeable effect on their bond; perhaps it manifests itself in an extreme level of overprotectiveness of each other, or perhaps they hardly interact at all.  Personally, I can see it going either way—and perhaps even both.  On the other hand, Silver has no basis for what a romantic relationship should look like whatsoever, as he’s never had anyone to show him such.  This means that he isn’t aware of how expressive he should be and what boundaries need to be drawn.  In a stroke of good fortune, however, neither are inherently bad people, so all it takes is a bit more of an effort to maintain a happy medium, along with a bit of input from some willing friends.
Alright, now onto some AU territory...!  I don't know if it's just me, but I think that this pairing would work so well in a historical setting.  Jade could be one of Prince Rielle’s advisors (along with Azul) whose work includes dealing with some of the more... questionable matters for the royal family, while Silver is, of course, one of Prince Malleus’ most trusted knights.  They meet when the two heirs decide to meet up one day to discuss an alliance between their respective countries.  As in canon, Jade finds Silver amusing at first and soon, they’re somehow always bumping into each other inside and outside of court.  However, as negotiations unexpectedly fall through, they quickly find themselves on opposite sides of the battlefield...
I also think that if placed in a modern-day college AU, Jade would fit perfectly as a TA, a position he earned thanks to his outstanding grades and performance in class from the previous year.  On the first day of the course, the student sleeping smack dab in the middle of the front row immediately catches his eye.  He recognizes him as Silver, their college’s infamously unintentional problem child.  Once realizing that the boy is quickly falling behind, courtesy of his unfortunate medical condition, he offers to tutor him on the side—this soon transforms into regular old coffee shop dates where studying is completely forgotten...
And, because I’m a total sucker for stories with darker themes and content, here’s a cliche zombie apocalypse AU for you: Prior to the outbreak of the virus, Jade worked as a renowned pharmacist for a major pharmaceutical company, while Silver was employed at a local security firm.  However, after one of Jade’s former coworkers fucks things up royally and their city is thrown into utter chaos, the two crash into each other while on the run.  Jade is heading for his company’s southern headquarters—where zombies still haven’t completely overrun things, as heat speeds up their decay—in order to aid them in the search for a cure; Silver, meanwhile, is heading for his family, who had been vacationing in the same general area.  Since their interests align, the two decide to pair up and fight against the rapidly mounting odds, during which they discover that they can really only trust each other...
...Okay, and I’ll stop things here before I start taking on more fanfic projects than I already have.  If anyone wants to actually write something based on these little tidbits, please send me a link!  I need to quench my thirst for JadeSil, as the brainrot never ends...
Side note: I wasn’t sure how to insert this anywhere in my headcanons, but I find it so cute that both of them have jewelry-related names.

so my gf and I broke up/decided to be friends cause her romantic feelings faded. And nothing against her, literally I stand firmly in the "if you aren't feeling it, the relationship should be ended." It's just dealing with a lot of realizations that like: I truly am isolated from people.
(long rant, rambles and repeats myself a lot)
She still cares about me and we're staying friends, chatting occasionally, etc. But I knew if I distanced myself to cope with my fatigue and the fact I feel anxious around everyone except for MA no matter how close I get to them, it would end in this. I've had doubts cause she's never fully been able to support me the way that I need even if we were happy. We haven't truly had any problems since we were both in high school. A big reason I didn't break up with her is cause I wanted to fight for the relationship, but also I didn't want to lose her as a friend so I'm glad we're staying friends.
I'm mostly just sad seeing how...I just can't fit in around others. I get too anxious and awkward and it leads my romantic relationships to feel like friendships because my anxiety NEVER goes away no matter how long I've known them. I've dated her/known her for 6 years and still I was terrified of causing her to leave if I acted wrong. I do still love her, but I kind of accepted that us having a future together wasn't likely. It was small things like accidentally misgendering me once (one of the only times she uses my pronouns and she used the wrong ones), watching a Blaire White video about kids faking mental illnesses (I think she just happened upon the video and watched it, but it kinda scared me that maybe she was a Blaire White fan or sumthn), and then just small things where we express emotions very differently.
I'm always going to feel disconnected from others and emotionally isolated. I'm always going to have anxiety with people like my now ex-gf (I'll start calling her T now I guess) and Ray and C. MA is the only person that I don't have that issue with.
The good news is that like, I can date MA finally. And I'm not overly sad about the break up, it's just left me with feelings about my relationships with other people in general thanks to my trauma and disorders. I'm not dating MA yet cause I need time to process and I want me asking her out to be perfect, but yeah.
Like my anxiety will never go away with people. I will always be frightened and feel like I'm living a lie. I felt I always had to play up my parts and please her to be worthy of love. Communication was just...never fully there the way I wanted it. I'm more relieved than anything that we broke up because I really couldn't see us together with the different ways we were going. I love more intensely than her and I'm also incredibly emotionally isolated and switch moods so often cause of disorders and being a system that I'm pretty dissociated overall. I knew I wasn't getting the support I needed.
None of this is against her, it's more just a set of circumstances/a reality of a situation. I always needed more support than she could provide and she was more demanding than I could handle (not in a controlling way, but a different needs way.) It just really hurts cause it's a reminder of how...limited love is for me, platonic or romantic. How differently I experience everything from other people including my close safe circle of loved ones.
I can't even begin to list every tiny thing I need when it comes to relationships, friend or s/o. But I know MA will work for me. She knows...everything pretty much and she's the one exception, the one single person, that I can truly be 1000% honest around. I'm overall happy T and I can stay friends. It's just a big reminder. I don't blame her at all cause it's just how love and relationships can be sometimes and I don't really mind it. I'd rather be in a relationship with MA at this point cause there...I can get the support I need for my physical and mental disabilities. MA knows what I need and we've communicated a lot and I can do the same for her. It's also just a "flaw" of mine (not really a flaw, but I can't find a better word) that romantic and platonic love is nearly equal to me. I'm in love with all my friends and would happily date any of them. Romantic partners to me will always be friendships but an extra level to it. And I guess it isn't like that for other people. I'm also just happy I can like...be free to explore myself a bit. I love T a lot and I'm glad we can stay friends in the end. She's a person I want in my life for as long as possible and I love listening to her rants. She needs more constant love and I need love on my terms with supporting my needs emotional and physical. We have a lot of differences and that's okay.
Just...the crushing reality of loneliness thanks to these disorders. I'm never too sad about having personality disorders to cope, but like...the isolation and how separate I am from most everyone including those in my life is...such an isolating experience. Everything I did, everything I perceive, everything I feel is inherently different. From autism to schizoid and narcissism, it's just...an amalgamation of experiencing things separately. And that's kinda why I like Tumblr so much. The PD communities on here help me feel less alone and more seen even if our experiences are still different, like, I get it. And even if I'm unable to interact with people cause of being terrified of other people, it's nice to see people that experience the world in similar ways. I have a mutual on the mental health app I use that is along those lines too and I treasure them greatly even tho we NEVER talk. I love my mutuals a lot even if I never speak to them. That's enough to make me feel happy, to see what they reblog and what they say.
Anyway, uh yah. That's my rant. Just a lot of personal feelings and shit. Lots of feelings about how I experience life and perceive things.

i have so so many feelings about pryce and eiffel post finale
one was adored by everyone, one was hated, and they’re both completely new people having to deal with how they’re treated based on who they used to be
new pryce basically just starts existing. she's lost, she's confused, she's looking around at a room full of people she doesn't know pleading for answers. and what does she get? the first memory of her existence is getting her fuckin lights knocked out.
imagine that, being so lost and new to the world, and not having anyone who can help you? you're stuck with this group of people who despise you. they don't say it out loud, but you can feel that repressed anger, that hatred in every interaction with them you have. and you don't have a single clue why.
and you gradually find out. you learn about every horrible, awful thing the woman who you were, the woman who's body you now inhabit did. the person who is now dead, but who everyone can't help but see every time they look at you. how you had a part in ruining all of these people's lives, in ending lives, in killing friends and family. how guilty would you feel?
for god’s sake, the thing that got lovelace out of bed every day for two years was the thought of hunting down and killing pryce and cutter, and now what? does she try to help?
don't get me wrong, i don’t think any of them would go out of their way to be cruel. they'd probably even try to help her adjust, but would any of them like her? genuinely try to build a connection with the new person that she is? i don't think they'd be able to.
i think eiffel and pryce are two sides of the same coin. pryce never had the connection, but i think eiffel actively distances himself from the crew.
he has so, so much to live up to. so many expectations on him. seeing the grief in everyone else's eyes every time they talk to him, the way they introduce him to pop culture and all of these things he barely understands or cares for, desperate to try to revive a man who's dead and gone. how would that make you feel?
having this support system, knowing you were so loved, and that all of these people care for you so deeply... except they don't. it isn't real. the one they love is not you, it's the man you used to be, the one you never knew? they aren't here because they care about you, they're here in that desperate hope that if they stick around, who you used to be will somehow resurface? what would that do to you?
i think they’d stick with each other. like i said they’re two sides of the same coin, they’re the only two people who really understand each other

man, am i the only one getting even more v abusive vibes from belos in the new ep? like we know that there is a cycle:
make a grimwalker
belos is eventually betrayed by it (or tricked into finding the truth BY BELOS, in hunter's case)
belos kills the grimwalker
and, as far as we know, he really did kill every single one.
but hunter left, right? and belos is now searching for him, which we find out through the guards. now, why didn't he order them to simply kill hunter? wouldn't it be easier to get rid of a traitor right away? i mean, they NEARLY got him, before remembering that belos specifically wants him alive.
considering everything we know, we can say it's because he wanted to kill him personally.
except the guards don't know this, so, for everyone else, unaware of belos' true nature, they think that "oh, the emperor is worried about his nephew."
thus, the others will think that he is doing it out of love, which is a card that abusive parents can play a lot to have control over their children, in which they hide the abuse, everything happens behind closed doors, so everyone thinks that the parent loves the child (y'know how kikimora and lilith say he is a spoiled brat? to them him being the golden guard is just nepotism!) while leaving the child with no actual support system (we see that he has no FRIENDS and everyone just kinda ignores him i guess. plus, at least from his perspective, everyone is on belos' side, YET ANOTHER TACTIC OF ISOLATING A CHILD HELLO)
so yeah i am emotional
