i’ve got so many unfinished fics in my drive and maybe even one published one where someone calls stede strong and brave for maintaining his softness even when life pushes back.

recently i feel like stede made a choice ed and izzy have both made in the past that they’ve always wished they never did, and stede could have been spared from. at the very least i think it hurt ed to see the version of himself he hates in stede. he probably thinks stede wanted to become that man for reasons other than stede has been bullied his entire life for being inadequate and told a man a bit like blackbeard is a real man.

call me crazy or whatever but i actually think a major thing that should be communicated between ed and stede is something on stede’s end. his trauma and his feelings and his issues. as it stands now, i don’t think ed understands what’s going on with stede. i don’t think he understands the person stede really wants to be. i don’t think he understands stede’s own issues of self-doubt and stede’s insecurities. hell i don’t think ed even has that much of a grasp of how unpopular and disliked stede has always been his entire life. and i think maybe if stede explained himself better, ed would understand more of what was going on. that he wouldn’t be seeing stede as manifesting something he wants to escape from, he would see stede as someone he needs to help escape with him.

I went to a school to test some kids today for my thesis and the teacher who received me and talked to me while we waited for the headmaster was the nicest person 💕💕💕

renjun... hmmmm acts of service? he gets told on a daily basis how amazing, wonderful and pretty he is but when someone actually does something about it is when i think he finds it more meaningful, so i feel like that would trickle into the way he shows you how much he loves you as well. would want to do things for you and would honestly also buy or make you things that remind him of you just because words can only do so much in his mind. he likes quality time a lot, any time he gets to spend with you is nice. would prefer to do something alone though, like just the two of you spending time together in the privacy of your super cute apartment :) really good listener and gives good advice with whatever issues you may be going through at the time

jeno... oh gosh his is a little hard, i think physical touch? he's said before he's quite shy so i think once you guys are established he would find it easier to show you how he feels rather than tell you because he strikes me as someone who may probably have a hard time expressing how they feel through words. likes squeezing your hips and poking your butt and waist lol. acts of service is a big one though omg. he would find so much pride in doing things for you. knows he's tall and strong so he uses that as an advantage when you need certain things and it makes him feel pretty wanted and needed yknow?? likes to be a big man muaha. quality time is also important to him i feel. likes just talking with you. he's a great listener but sometimes he stares for too long and you have to snap him out of his trances pft. likes showing you off

haechan... physical affection 100% i feel like thats a given with him LMAO. if he had it his way? OHHHHH, he would have you glued to his side 24/7. quality time is also something he enjoys, i feel like he is such a movie buff tbh, from watching a movie series or a full tv show would be really enjoyable for him because its ALSO an excuse to wrap your arms around his waist hehe. likes giving gifts sometimes but it HAS to be perfect especially if its for you. but yeah, physical touch is a big one for him. he just, likes you so much and finds a lot of joy in being able to touch, peck and hug you whenever he wants. likes running his hands on your back, shoulders, lower stomach, head, neck, etc, y'all get the jist!!

jaemin... okay so physical touch LIGHTLY, because sometimes he just can't help himself but, he usually shows his love through words of affirmation and gift giving! absolutely adores telling you how much he loves you and how beautiful, lovely and amazing he thinks you are and he is SO good at articulating what he wants to say to you and how he wants to say it. never fails to leave you flustered and fulfilled. it would be so hard for you to not feel loved with how much he spoils you haha. always buys you random knick knacks and clothes/accessories he thinks would look good on you. and listen, idk if showing off is a love language but he loves showing you off like jeno i think it goes along with words of affirmation for him. very gentle when it comes to physical touch btw :") just overall very kind and considerate, treats you like a doll

chenle... gift giving obviously as well as quality time. like i've said before, he's pretty clingy with you but i think giving you things and having the ability to work hard and make money makes him all the more inclined to want to give you everything you want and more. really really enjoys being able to have you all to himself. adores the idea of being domestic with you and just doing something in silence and being in each others presence. calms him so much and he feels he really should give you his full attention not because its something he has to do but something he really values and wants to be able to do for you. can be clingy sometimes but is mostly a quieter pda type of guy. you can never say no to him buying you things though HAHA he'll always find away, fills him with a lot of pride that he feels/proves he can provide for you

jisung... words of affirmation and acts of service. just likes being able to be seen as an adult. he's been around people older than him all his life and constantly in the state of being babied so he would like to be able to be seen as someone who could do valuable things for his partner. which is why he's always trying to help you! gives good advice and gives an even better hand around the house PFT. i mean c'mon he's so lanky and lean and obedient. so smiley whenever he sees you need something or you come to him for help. but also never wants you to think you can't do things for yourself just because he has a need to be helpful yknow? so he never fails to tell you how well you're doing and how much he loves you. has a hard time being vulnerable but it gets better since he knows you won't ever judge him for being shy about professing how highly he thinks of you always

chan- immediately concerned and wants to know more about how it effects you bc he knows everyone is different. he starts paying more attention to you from then on and tries to learn all he can to help you when needed. he’s incredibly respectful towards you.

lee know- he’s kinda confused. he doesn’t know much about autism so he doesn’t really know what to do or say but he loves you and he’s incredibly supportive. he does what he can to understand you better. doesn’t really make a big deal about anything and he works harder not to let things upset him (like stimming and stuff). eventually it’s kinda funny bc he even starts mentioning stuff that you don’t even know.

changbin- he kinda feels bad. he knows it’s hard for you and it was even hard to tell him. he starts thinking back to all the times he might have been to forcefully affectionate or loud. he starts to become more aware of his behavior around you and wants to do his best not to trigger anything. it starts to feel a little weird between you for a bit just bc he’s SO worried about hurting you somehow that you have to end up having a conversation with him to chill out. he comes around though and chan helps him get some resources to help him understand things better.

hyunjin- he’s kinda surprised actually. you tend to mask a bit more or he just thinks some of the things you do are just cute little quirks so when you tell him it just takes him by surprise. immediately starts reading more books about it and learning what he can. he listens intently to your experiences.

han- he was more concerned at first than anything. he never wants to see you hurt or upset and the only real representation he’s seen portrayed in media hasn’t been to accurate to your experience. so he really approaches things cautiously until he gets a better understanding of you. before he knows it he’s a pro at helping you in all the ways you need him to and handles some of the more stressful situations with confidence.

felix- he just gets it. he seems interested in neurodivergence anyways so he’s always on tiktok relating to all the funny videos to the audhd experience so he’s v understanding and patient with you. never judges you when you do something a bit off the wall. wants to be a safe space where you can unmask more. whatever it is you need he gets it for you and if you ever need to be away from everyone he will provide you with that physical space.

seungmin- he already knew. he can’t explain how but as soon as you tell him he’s like, “well, yeah…” he’s just super observant and notices things that most people don’t. after this conversation you think back and realize that he’s been adapting to you all along. he never really like skinship or affection anyways but he would notice the way one of the other boys would hug you and just make a mental note to respect you. he saw the way you’d react to other stimulus and note how you cope. he starts carrying noise canceling ear buds just in case or an extra pair of sunglasses. it’s just little silent things that let you know he’s paying attention and he cares to help accommodate you.

i.n- he’s so curious. he wants to know all about you and what makes you tick and why you feel certain ways about things or react to things the way you do. he becomes more observant and tries not to do too much to make things overwhelming. he just wants to make everything feel as normal as possible since he’s been around you when your mind fights you and makes you feel super weird. he ask about how thing’s effect you personally as well as find resources to explain it more thoroughly from other autistics that may articulate some things better.

idk how to articulate this but. i feel like we all agree cas knows dean loves him when he's confessing, but i always struggle with "the one thing i want is something i know i can't have" being tied to his deal with the empty, cause he's been "wondering what it could be" since he "took that curse", so it must be something that was already true before that deal was made.

so that leads viewers to the conclusion of "well the one thing he wants is simply dean, and cas doesn't think he reciprocates in that way (romantically), even though he clearly does" cause that's a popular trope on TV. and that doesn't necessarily take away from cas' character or character development imo, cause he does have doubts sometimes and he is still figuring out humanity even though he himself is very human and has a good grasp on it at this point. so it makes sense for him to doubt if he interpreted all the signs correctly, both because of his lack of (validating) experience in that area and because things have been complicated between them, so maybe coming to a wrong conclusion in the end isn't the wildest thing cas could do.

that doesn't mean i love that interpretation, but i think that it's the interpretation that makes the most sense for the general audience to conclude. and i think that was on purpose, so that wb/tptp didn't have to make a statement on dean's sexuality. i love that it makes cas' confession even more undeniably romantic, but it comes at the price of dean's ability to speak.

i wish it wasn't written like that and i wish it was made clear that cas knows dean loves him Like That, but that the deal means they can't have it. but it was all left a bit too open to interpretation cause that was the trade-off. bobo had to work with what he had and i think he did all he could. and misha saying they were scared they were gonna edit out the confession and having to be super careful about it all the time, just proves that. so in the end we got a confession that was still beautiful despite all the restrictions and weird last-minute edits, one that was expertly crafted to convey the importance and emotionality it needed, but one that did suffer from ✨ network censorship ✨ unfortunately

idk how to articulate this right but it's weird when vegans and people who aren't vegans blame each other for like. stuff that happens because of capitalism???? like ppl who aren't vegans will b like "well what about the impoverished people who grow your vegetables huh??" like well that's a capitalism problem and not an inherent problem to veganism. and then vegans will be like "the leather industry is actually super harmful for the environment" and well that's also a capitalism problem and not necessarily inherent to leather

like most arguments relating to veganism seem like they're just dancing around the issue of capitalism. TO ME. this is just my own observation.

i dont think liking/relating to shuro is bad, hes not a bad guy objectively he only blew up on laios because he was malnourished, exhausted, and stressed among other things. people hate on him unfairly and you shouldnt feel bad for finding yourself in him, hes a super fascinating and deep character thats very well written and, as you said, articulates the culture clash between asians and westerns that often doesnt get talked about.

Yeah, you're so right!!

I thought Shuro was so very relatable as an Asian myself because reading between the lines was like a Big Thing that was practically drilled into me as a child. There's even a word for it in Korean: 눈치! Roughly translating to having a 'good eye' for reading situations or people.

It's common courtesy in most Asian cultures (idk if this applies to all Asian countries though!) to be able to quickly and correctly pick up on social cues, regardless of how subtle they are. And a person can be considered rude, dense, or even disrespectful if they don't manage to do that.

I do absolutely see the flaw in this system, that being that it can be majorly disadvantageous towards neurodivergent people in particular. I mean, my autistic ass used to get scolded by my parents a lot as a child because of various social faux-pas caused by my utter inability to read the goddamn room back then (I was a BLUNT child, alr). Which is why I can see how people could consider he and Laios' fight as a neurotypical VS. neurodivergent type of situation. Buuuut, I think it was more of a miscommunication issue that is a little hard to play the blame game with.

Ofc, he is a flawed character, and I'm not saying people are not allowed to dislike him, but I think it's a shame to bundle up such a multi-faceted character such as Shuro into one big negative label of ableist. I feel like it's wrong to throw the word around so willy nilly.

Anyways!! I really like Shuro despite his flaws, I can see myself in him a lot! Other than the noble warrior part, obv. I think it's nice that Rioko Kui portrayed a fairly unexplored topic concerning Asian and Western culture clash :)

"normal thing to do" yeah, maybe, but it's also good to recognize your limits especially with kids. I've known forever that I didn't want kids bc while I am good with them and can mostly keep my cool publicly, the resentment that builds in me when I'm around them would not be sustainable if I had kids of my own.

Anyways I think it's perfectly normal to not want kids or to know when you're not in a place to be a good parent, they're a huge responsibility and time commitment. I have a 2yo nephew who I love so much but I get exhausted after like 4-5 hours with him and he's an extremely well behaved child!! You're so valid for being impressed by good parents honestly, idk how anyone does it.

!! thank you for articulating this, we have a super similar perspective. i adore kids i just know i'd burst into tears dealing with what i see parents dealing with in public lol esp if i haven't been able to get any sleep which a lot of parents of young kids don't. like just being real (at least w the headspace im in rn) i would have a mental breakdown whether or not it's the normal thing to do. very impressed by parents bc that shit looks so relentlessly difficult 😭

I'm torn with Claudia. The humane part of me wants her to stop walking her dark path before she destroys herself completely and find some measure of peace. The fucked-up part of me wants to watch her to lose it and go on the warpath and cause lots of chaos. Is that last one wrong to hope for?

Not at all! I do think we'll see her warpath arc next season, since as Ezran stated/foreshadowed

We all want peace and we all want love. But violence tests us. In a twisted way, it converts us to its cause. Because pain and loss feel so terrible inside, you want to hate. You want to hurt someone else.

Given that Rayla cut off her leg and the trio cost her the chance to save her father's life (since if/when Viren survives, I don't think Claudia will know for a while), I think she'll start chasing Revenge. (Which may lead to even more fracturing with Terry, as "I always believed in you because you had a reason" but we shall see...) And then maybe Soren and Viren will work together to try and bring her home, but maybe only in s7 - so who knows?

But yeah, I don't think ever wanting characters to go through "negative character development" or "fail" means we don't like them or don't understand/sympathize with them. Too often, I think, fandoms can have a tendency to moralize, well, everything, but in this case the choices writers make regarding their favourite characters, i.e. "This Bad Thing happened to Character A so therefore the writers hate them / are punishing them."

And don't get me wrong, I've definitely seen shows where a writing team just did not know what to do with a character, so they just heaped tons of pain on them and/or under utilized them, and who is shown on screen with discussed/processed trauma vs who isn't is definitely a discussion worth having, because none of that exists in an apolitical or aracial space.

However... by no means is the "punishing" angle what's happening all the time, either. What I think it comes from is like, some base assumptions and also a lack of literary understanding for some key aspects I'm gonna do my best at articulating clearly:

1) Operating under an assumption that if you like a character you should only want 'good' things for them, and for them to be a 'good' person, because you are also a 'good' person. This doesn't seem super moralized on the surface, but it explains a lot about "how could anyone like that villain" or offense to "how could anyone want that character to fail" and it's like, idk how to explain that failure and therefore conflict and tragic figures are Just Interesting, Brenda, even if they aren't your personal cup of tea. (I say, as a diehard Macbeth and literary Judas enjoyer lmao.)

2) Ignores catharsis and tragedy as elements of storytelling / as its own desirable genre. Sometimes, you want to watch a thing where you know the whole time everything is going to go horribly wrong for certain characters, or all the characters, and that's what's fun about it. The desirable outcome for every story or character is not a happy ending, nor are all characters or stories built for a happy ending, either. It can be upsetting, of course, when a character we like doesn't get the (happy) ending we hoped for, but that isn't necessarily always the same as a bad ending, y'know? Substantially bad things happening to a character doesn't always mean a narrative hates them; a focus on them is still a focus.

All of this to say: I don't think it's wrong at all to want, or be interested in, Terrible Things happening to a character. It's a thought experiment like any other, and pushing characters to their limits, revealing how they respond under intense or painful experiences - whether than pain is physical, emotional, or something else entirely - is fun and interesting. There's a reason there's are entire genres for Horror and Drama and tearjerker films after all.

Like I've been waiting and wanting for Claudia to snap and become a fully fledged villain since S2 because it was very clear to me just how much she was already Skewed in S1 and S2 made it clear to me that, unlike her brother, she would not be getting on a better path any time soon. Sometimes mess and hurt and mistakes is more interesting than healing, and sometimes it's the opposite (and those things aren't mutually exclusive either).

Like going into S6, I want everyone to Fail so badly (except, arguably, Claudia - who still isn't going to be getting what she actually Needs - and Aaravos, who's going to get exactly what he wants). Watching how characters and their relationships can fall apart, how their own consistent flaws and patterns, can lead them to make awful but understandable mistakes? That's my shit. And getting to see how they do, or don't, come back from that in the season, and in season 7? Chomping at the bit, I'm so excited.

I also don't think that hoping for another end, though, is worse than being excited for a tragic end, because while tragedies are about sadness, they are also - at their core - about Hope that maybe it won't end badly this time. If a tragedy cannot provide catharsis to a viewer, for some reason, then they are still fulfilling their purpose in nurturing hope and indignation in the face of perceived unfairness - that a character could try so hard and still be doomed; that we ourselves often take on tasks that feel insurmountable, that we can take on what looks like a losing battle and still, somehow, win. And maybe we don't - maybe they don't. But tragedies, if nothing else, teach us resilience and the merit of telling a story when you already know how it ends, and the skill of it lies therefore entirely in the execution (sometimes literally).

Basically: hope for whatever you want for whatever character you want, even, or especially, when it's 'bad'. It's what we've always done for a reason.
