Danny and his haunt are more than a little distressed to find out that Pariah Dark can’t be destroyed and can only be sealed away due to being the Ancient of Darkness. Danny is worried about someone trying to wake him up again, while his friends are more worried about the ghost going after the newborn Ancient of Space again.
They scour libraries, search high and low in both the Ghost Zone and the living world for a solution before finally just asking Clockwork.
And well, they feel like just a bit of idiots but also elated.
Because if Danny can become the new embodiment of space, then what’s to stop them from giving the power of darkness to someone else that’s not Pariah Dark?
They make a list of requirements, ask both ghosts and living friends. There’s nothing in their world, no one quite right, but what about other worlds? The realms are supposedly infinite right? So there had to be someone out there.
And while it takes a long, long time, they eventually find one when a small bloodied ghost of greens, golds, and reds comes forth shyly, eyes burning with determination. He speaks of heroes and villains- far more than their own world- of a city cloaked in shadow and of a single man trying to help despite it seeming impossible.
Who better to become the new Dark besides the dark knight himself after all?

Lost Bird Returns
It wasn't strange that Danny chased Desiree, or that she refused to return to the Infinite Realms. What was strange was that she decided to leave Amity Park.
That made things 200% more difficult for the halfa because outside of Amity no one had the "no desiring" rule; while Danny was grateful that Amity was kept "secret" and no one knew what was going on inside (and that was a pain in the ass to accomplish), it was also a disadvantage in those situations.
Mainly because Desiree could stay invisible and listen to people's wishes. Like at that moment, where he found her smiling next to Batman, and damn it, what wish had she granted?
Batman, unaware of his unfortunate situation, was watching the streets of Gotham gloomily. It was Jason's death anniversary and they'd had another fight, which happened a lot in those days, but Bruce couldn't help but think of simpler days.
"I wish he could get his spark back" the dark knight lamented, accidentally sealing his son's fate.
And though Danny had caught Desiree in the thermos, the wish had already been made. The halfa didn't know enough to reverse it either.
A few days later rumors began to be heard of a ghost haunting Gotham. A boy dressed in a burnt uniform with a strange look on his face.
Robin, the lost part of Jason Todd that had been trapped in the Realms so long ago was back, and not even the Lazarus Pits would keep him away this time.

mmm batfam au where they're all normal as in, bruce isn't batman and there's no vigilante stuff. that, but jason is a ghost who haunts the manor and has for a long time who likes to mess with bruce and the others in hilarious, basic ghostly ways. i'm talking writing on a foggy mirror, knocking things over and messing with the electronics. he'd like to mess with dick and tim most of all, damian however declares war on the ghost who thought it was a funny idea to kick him out of bed at 4am and he vows to win. jason has no problem with that and thus the prank war of the ages begins.
dick and tim become ghost hunters, they binge every ghost hunting show they can find and even get their own equipment so they can prove once and for all that ghosts exist. dick's a little insane about it, tim just thinks its fun.
they all tell bruce they think the house is haunted, save for steph and duke who, really don't believe it because this so called ghost hasn't bothered them (jason likes them, so he leaves them alone, steph secretly does believe she just doesn't want it to stop) and bruce, tired dad of the year just goes "ok kids, that sounds fun" he wasn't really paying attention, that or he can't with their shenanigans at that moment. alfred likes the ghost, he was skeptical at first but when the dishes miraculously started cleaning themselves he decided he was good. jason may relentlessly prank dick, tim and damian but he always wants to help alfred.
just ghost jason things <3

I dont know if it's an existing fic or just someone's wild dream, but I think about Jason's death. And i think of Tim having Jason Todd as his favourite Robin. Hear me out.
I dont know how or why, but Tim begins to have the ability to see ghosts. Or specifically, one Jason Todd. Jason Todd was exactly how he was before his death, loud and kind. He was exactly how Tim remembered him to be.
And that would be the worst kind of suffering he could ever receive.

What if when Jason died he stayed dead and he's just a ghost looking out for his favourite humans
Around the time Tim was trying to help Bruce, aka Depressed Bruce.
Jason sees this and reveals himself to his Dad, because he missed him, right? But Bruce just thinks he's hallucinating/drunk and he's like "Jason, I'm sorry" and crying while Jason is like.
''What do I do? My Dad's crying and I dunno what to do''. So he just sits with him, head on his shoulder as he tries to comfort Bruce.
Jason basically becomes Bruce's ghost therapist.
He gets Bruce to go downstairs to the kitchen to drink water and Alfred, who hasn't been able to get him out of his room in more than 48 hours stares at Bruce shocked as he sobered up. Willingly.
While Bruce is just doing this to make his imaginary son happy.
Jason, trying to motivate his Dad to drink at least a cup of water before bed:
Bruce, drunk and miserable: why are you doing this? I'm not thirsty!
Jason: I know, I know, but just in case! I'll drink it with you :D
Bruce: fine :(
Alfred, sitting downstairs wondering why Master Bruce is bringing two cups of water to his room after 72 hours: I must be dreaming

AU where Jason becomes a ghost after his death... (I already posted something about it before, but I can't find my own post so here I go again).
He starts his period as a ghost trying to find ways to reach out to Bruce to comfort him, to tell him that he's still there, but his ability to interfere with the land of the living is very limited at first. He has to slowly learn how to do it. So all he can do is watch Bruce cover up his murder, try very hard to kill the Joker but not really do it, delete any sign of his previous existence, tarnish his memory, victim-blame him for his murder, take on another Robin, etc etc etc.
So when Jason is finally able to actually interfere, he's a vengeful spirit who just wants to haunt Bruce and drive him to self-destruction (and the side projects are to haunt Alfred and Tim too because hey, even though his focus is on Bruce, he's got the time for that too, and tormenting them might also torment Bruce by proxy).
Alternative: he still gets resurrected and retains the knowledge from his time as a ghost. (Adjusting the timing of his resurrection is needed for him to witness all those things, but it's an AU anyway). So he's ten times worse when he comes back to life. Maybe he just blows up the Batmobile, because he knows that asking anything from Bruce won't get him anywhere (that is, if he didn't manage to destroy Bruce or Batman back when he was a ghost).
Alternative: everything goes the way it goes up until UTH, but Jason becomes a ghost after the Batarang.

Dead on main au where
1. Danny wears a 1/2 face mask as a ghost to make sure his parents don’t find out who he is
2. The decision to start wearing the mask was a spontaneous thing that happened at school and he stole the mask from his high school’s theater department
3. Danny moves to Gotham as soon as he turns 18 on a scholarship but it doesn’t include dorm fees.
4. Danny hides out in an abandoned theater (the attic is surprisingly well insulated!!!!) and spends most of his time there as a ghost because he can’t anywhere else in Gotham.
5. An injured Red hood limps his way into one of his favorite old hideouts (the theater obviously), and promptly passes out from blood loss with the hazy image of a masked glowing spector as the last thing he sees.
6. He wakes up enough to hear soft reassurances of safety and feel cool hands carry him with no noticeable strain.
7. Jason comes to in a giant nest of blankets with his wound neatly stitched up, a killer headache, and a sticky note wishing him well/ promising the writer didn’t leak under the helmet (a fact Jason is well aware of considering his head is very much unexploded)
8. Jason tries to leave but he passes out again and is honestly too tired to try again when he comes back around. So he just…falls asleep.
9. Jason wakes up again to warm food on an old silver tray and an empty room, not knowing Danny is watching him from the corner to make sure he doesn’t fall again. Not that Danny wouldn’t catch him again, but he’d prefer it didn’t happen at all.
In short, Danny plays elusive nurse to the dangerous red hood while Jason sees a literal ghost that lives in an abandoned theater wearing a phantom of the opera mask and decides he’s found a keeper. Clearly he appreciates the drama.

Not so alive, after all
Jason Todd died, that's a fact. What no one notices is that he never revived. What came out of his grave was not a body, or a corpse, but a ghost, taking the form of his wishes. The only reason the League of Assassins was able to see him at first was their connection to the pits.
Ghosts take on the appearance they want, depending on how they feel. Which is why Jason's ghost kept "growing" during his training with the League. Everyone in the League could see and touch him because being submerged in the pits (toxic pools of ectoplasm) gave him the strength to manifest. Even though the ectoplasm was clearly tainted and diverted his obsession.
So, Jason Todd wasn't a zombie, or a revived human. He was a very powerful and remarkably sick ghost. Something that went unnoticed by his whole family (They could see him, touch him, and obviously he ate, his green eyes were the influence of the pits and that was all for them.)
Or at least it did, until he began to grow weak (he had spent a lot of time away from the pits and the ectoplasm on his environment wasn't enough), and his illness worsened. When Dick tried to take his hand during a discussion about his health and he went through it, Jason began to panic.
A week later, when a green note told him to "go to Gotham Cemetery to find out the truth" without further explanation, he decided to follow it. It was probably a trap and he should check his security system but what did he have to lose?
His humanity, apparently; "Phantom" looked extremely nervous when it came to explaining. But Jason had gone blank ever since he heard the "you were never alive" and "you need a doctor"
Well, fuck.

Ghost Kitchen (brought to you by criminal entrepreneur, Red Hood)
Danny’s got the easiest job in Gotham.
He works as a fry cook at a shoddily-run, independent burger joint. Hardly anyone comes in, despite prices being criminally low, and portions insanely large, and while the manager looks like the average tough-as-nails ex-con, he lets Danny mess around in the kitchen whenever the place is empty. (Which is often. This place has to be the city’s hidden gem or something!)
Mr. Manager’s the only one ever there with Danny, except for sometimes when his buddies come over to smoke and play cards. Danny would find it shady, except part of his job is not to ask questions. Literally, he was told during the interview.
(It was a weird interview. Why would they need to hire someone who’s been in a gunfight before? Like, he has, but Gotham’s idea of “hirable qualities” is so bizarre.)
So instead he whips up some killer burgers with the frozen ingredients, and basks in the praise as the guys tell him he shouldn’t have, he does too much for this joint, ain’t that friendly!
Now, Danny’s a chef on the newer side. As a teen he’d preferred the look of Nasty Burger over anything with Michelin stars, and he only really took up cooking after Jazz moved out for college. But just like ecto-exposure used to turn the groceries sentient, Danny’s low-level ecto signature imbues all his food with something historically haunted Gothamites just love! And Danny’s never been one to half-ass a job when it makes people happy.
With fresher produce, real meat, Danny’s sure he can take his dishes to the next level. It takes a couple months of badgering, but his manager finally agrees to contact the mysterious store owner, who keeps the place going, despite profits Danny knows have to be in the red.
Danny spends the morning prepping. He pours his heart into his food, eager to impress. The big boss will be here soon, and he wants to prove that despite the dangerous location, this place has real potential!
It isn’t until the Red Hood shows up that Danny realizes he’s been working for a money laundering scheme.

The Joker was apprehended, sitting on the ground as Batman guarded him, but the kid--"Bruce Wayne's newest ward, how tragic! Hehehe!"--was nowhere to be found. Nightwing and Red Hood desperate searched the warehouse until a shuffling noise grabbed their attention.
A kid, black haired just like the kid in the Joker's broadcast, crawling out of a pile of boxes. "Is it over?" the boy asked quietly.
Nightwing guided him to the only exit, unfortunately walking past the boy's own kidnapper. "Yeah, kid. It's over. Come on-"
Like a shot, the boy rushed the Joker and kicked him right in the balls.
The Joker wheezed like a dying squeaky toy. Red Hood froze. Nightwing immediately snatched the boy up by the armpits, but all that did was give the boy the height to attack again, punting Joker in the jaw. The clown went down and cracked his head on the floor. He did not get back up.
There was a moment of silence before Red Hood roared with laughter, his helmet distorting the sound.
