Fourteen year old Tim teaches Young Justice about rationing food in an emergency. Except...Bruce hasn't taught him that yet.
Red Tornado praises his teaching abilities, stating that his lesson to the other kids had been both informative and practical. In fact, he'd assigned "homework" for the other Young Justice members to find and stock enough food for an emergency for a week.
Small problem.
Tim isn't slotted for that particular lesson until next week.
Bruce takes a step back.
Tim is always eager to learn, perhaps he'd just taught himself nutrition ahead of schedule and was sharing that lesson with his friends.
...Except his Robin's lesson hadn't involved emergency rations in the wild, just in an urban environment.
Bruce finds out rather early that Tim's parents are neglectful, and is very conflicted on how to deal with it.
He isn't in a good place mentally to adopt again.
But Tim cannot stay in that empty house.

I think I just figured out where woobified Tim Drake came from.
Any Tim and Jason bonding fic- mainly Tim joins the batfam early fics.
bc, here's the thing. I think these writers know that Jason wouldn't like Tim if he was just a normal rich kid. In fact Jason "I have a massive inferiority complex but refuse to show it" Todd would probably be so jealous of Tim, even if we are talking about his Robin Days because Jason would see it as Tim trying to take Jason's place.
so, what to these writers do to make Jason like Tim more? They make Tim more timid, and dial Tim's neglect to 1000% so that Jason sympathizes with this kid who's no longer recognizable from his original canon counterpart.
If anything, Jason would become brothers with a Snarky Tim faster than a Timid Tim because they'd be spitting insults at each other, and Bruce tries to stop them from fighting and Tim's like "Woah, Mr. Dresses up as A Furry and punches people instead of going to therapy, I don't think you get a say in how we fight with each other."
And that would be the moment Jason knew he had a brother for life. Lmao.

Fanon mischaracterization of the Drakes is how I end up making a post defending Tim’s parents from baseless fanon bashing only to immediately after make a post complaining about their canon parenting.

I have seen some disclosures in the past about how fandoms force a non-existence "found family" dynamic between the characters then forcibly turn that found family into a "nuclear family" where they will make one character be the "dad" while one character is the "mom" and everyone else are siblings when that's not the case and while I definitely know what people mean by that and have seen it happen before, I feel like in the context of the "Batfamily," some people are taking it too far into the opposite direction.
Like first of all, depending on how you divide them, the "Batfamily" is made up by characters who are either literal family or just close friends/lovers, so I can understand why grouping all of them together and labeling them as one big family may sound confusing (but always remember, Wayne family =/= Batfamily)
Characters like Barbara, Stephanie and Duke (I might even throw in Tim & Cassandra, since they both were only adopted at 17) absolutely have an "unconventional" familial ties to each other and to Bruce, so I personally don't think you should be so eager to fit them all into a stereotypical nuclear familial roles, especially since all the characters I mentioned above (except for Cass) have one or two loving parents who have raised them all on their own without the help of Bruce and are still alive and present in their child's life (except Tim, whose parents canonly died a couple of years ago in-universe).
With that being said, sometimes characters just so happen to fit the bill of a stereotypical "nuclear family" in canon and not wanting to accept that because the children are adopted/not related by blood to their parents is fucked up.
And I say that mostly about Dick and Jason, who for for all intent and purposes were both fully adopted at 9 and 11 respectively (ignoring rectons that aged them up or the fact that Dick was a ward at first only because single men couldn't legally adopt in the 40's), so it doesn't matter how you go about it, Bruce is 100% their father and they are 100% his sons, no ifs or buts.
For me, I have seen too many people trying to down-play the fact that Batman is canonly a dad (maybe because they don't think its cool? Idk) by pretending that him and his literal children are just a found family or just partners and accusing anyone who refer to them as parent-and-child of diminishing this found family and forcing them into a "nuclear" family when that's not case with them.
Referring to an adult man who fully adopted a young child to raise them as his own as that child's dad isn't forcing them into a nuclear family, because he's LITERALLY their dad? That's just common sense.

I want more fics that actually have Tim's canon homelife.
like yes, perfect angst when you use the fanon 'stayed home while his parents travelled, always went to public school, stalked batman and robin out of hero worship as an itty bitty baby child, figured out their identities from seeing the quadruple summersault during stalking their patrol'
but his canon 'stayed in boarding school while his parents travelled, only joined public school when trained/became robin, only stalked batman when the dude was grieving in order to get evidence of his violence, figured out their identities by seeing the quadruple summersault on tv'
Give me fics about Tim's time in boarding school. Give him friends from before he was a teenager. I wanna him with his richy bitchy childhood friends who all share the trauma of "I only ever see my parents on school break and I am stuck in this boarding school so I have no idea what love is"
Because all of his civillian friends are from when he was in public school. Bernard, Darla were from middle school (starts at 11 yrs old) and Ives was from high school (starts at 14 yrs old) so they are TEENAGE HOOD FRIENDS NOT CHILDHOOD RAAAAA

This feeling when you look through "Jason needs a hug" and "Damian needs a hug" tags on ao3 and the only thing you find is tim f*cking drake-centric fics when he's portrayed as uwu poor victim uwu no one loves me uwu while Jason or Damian are this crazy psychopaths who want to kill/maim/injure poor little kitten timmy. Ugh.
I've honestly just given up it's too much effort to try to find a fic that includes Tim that doesn't have the mention of what a pathetic little sad sack of a boy he is so now I just exclude him all together when I'm searching for fics which really is a shame bc I do love that boy but I can't handle how he is portrayed in a majority of fics

No bc fuck tim but it really really bothers me how people ignore his growth like he used to be an asshole and I’ll give tim Stans one thing: now he’s so so so stale but what I disagree with is that this staleness is bc nobody likes him like it’s in fact the exact opposite where everyone likes him so much they dont want to do anything. Even when it’s him surface level challenging Bruce it’s when everyone else is doing it too; but he’s still the backbone of the fam! Etc. and it’s so irritating bc him gaining more compassion and empathy even for people he doesn’t fw is so fun to watch and that’s why the captain boomerang thing was so out of character! (Not in a from the author way but in a tim wouldn’t do that and he and Bruce both knew it which is why it went down like it did. Same way dick killing joker was ooc; not in fanon sense but in a he would hate himself forever for this sense) and speaking of that it’s such an interesting mirror to Bruce who genuinely believes that everyone can grow vs Tim’s it doesn’t matter if they grow it’s not my decision to make like it’s the same but it’s not AND WITH CASS’ IT DOESNT MATTER IF THEY CHOOSE NOT TO GROW I WONT DO IT! like ugh. And anyways even when people acknowledge it they boil it down to “Janet and Jack taught him that the capitalist pigs that they are” like no. This is who tim was. Tim was the kind of guy who’d blame a dead kid for dying. That’s ok. Also Janet and Jack? Please reread anything involving them that’s not a fic like Jack had anger issues and they were both aloof at worst like relax.
#the Jack and Janet thing is both an understatement and an exaggeration but I don’t think anyone reads enough to care#some tim stan might get all pissy and be like ‘no look this is everytime jack yelled at him and boarding schools are abusive’ to which#and its like narratively that means nothing bc the tim you made up to justify the Drake parents you made up by blowing shit out of#proportion is also made up and if all of that was abusive there’d be smth to show for it besides ur homophobic Jack#too girlboss to care but still terrible Janet bc god forbid a woman have a personality from ur fics#anyways that’s also the reason I’m ignoring the council of spiders#well two reasons#first is that was just a moment to make tim look cool and did absolutely nothing for him or his character moving on#like at all#I’d say it fucked with his previous established dislike of killing for his own reasons#and while that COULD be interesting it’s not bc they didn’t do shit with it#and fanon doesn’t do fun shit with it either#nothing about how tim in his most manic state did shit he doesn’t want to remember shit he’d HATE other ppl for#just “’remember what I did to ur base Ra’s? mess with me again and see what I do next 😼’#like ok can you be real and genuine?#anyways I think#AND NOT IN A HATER WAY#Tim would benefit from being humbled#like genuinely I detest the world can’t move without tim running it but the idea that tim thinks that way is so good to me#and#I think next step being him realizing that’s not true would be a BIG push for his character#bc like I said tim Stans are right in the fact that he’s stale as hell rn#but that’s bc there’s nothing to say bc there’s nowhere to go! y’all want a tim action story where he shows off how badass he is reread#the Bruce quest and maybe it’ll remind you he’s not ceo lmao but anyways there’s nothing internal to say about him atp bc nobody wants to#say anything that’s not propping him up. same with Bruce! Gotham war was such a copout but it’s like ppl are saying he’s stale and it’s bc#god forbid he makes a lasting fumble. and I’m not under the illusion this is new I’m just saying it’s weird that fandoms not clocking it#anywayyys I really do like thinking about the No killing rule and how different it manifests for each perosn#like the way each distinct difference tells u so much about them#UGH ONLY SLIGHTLY RELATED BUT DUUUUUKE BEING LIKE IDGAF ABOUT GUNS LIKE UR SO REAAAL#anyways enough tim positivity for today FUCK THAT NIGGA!

Amnesia
Just have an idea and I want to throw some of what I've already gotten done out here. No idea how long it'll take between additions from me, but anyone who wants to add or continue to what I already have, feel free.
Basic Summary: Tim Drake finds Jason Todd after he crawls out of his own grave but before the League of Assassins and decides to take Jason home to Drake Manor. (Title may change)
~~~
Prologue
Tim never thought he would ever actually be scared of Batman. But as he looked down on the alley below, Tim was terrified.
Batman was in a rage and he had been ever since he had come back from Ethiopia three weeks ago. Ever since he had come back alone.
It wasn't very hard for Tim to realize that Robin was dead. His Robin was gone.
Tim pushed down the realization and bile it brought up as he dialed for emergency services. The criminal being beaten into the pavement below had only robbed a Walmart when he’d been discovered by Batman. Now he would be leaving in an ambulance. Tim only hoped that the sirens would be enough warning for Batman to get away.
Even as he waited, watching in horror, Tim began to think about how to save him. Bruce was a good man, damn it, and he was too lost in his own grief to realize how dangerous he had become. Batman needed a Robin. So Tim would find a Robin for him.
The ambulance arrived and Batman heard it just soon enough to disappear onto the gloomy fire escape above the alley. His form was nothing but a darker patch of shadow, but Tim had been following Gotham’s protectors long enough to recognize the tension in his gaze, the shaking of his shoulders. Batman was crying.
His Hero…
And then he was gone.
Tim needed to get to work.
Ok like jack drake wouldn't be 'kill all queers' type of homophobic but you cannot tell me 90s canonicaly sexist jack drake wouldn't be casually homophobic the way so many people are. Hes the dad who casually drops a slur or makes a shitty joke and insists on it just being a joke if called out. Hes the 'im not homophobic but i dont wanna see that in public' type of guy who gets defensive if you call them homophobic but then says that of course hes glad his kid isnt one of those gays. Its a trend and a phase etc etc you'll grow out of it! Its ok
Hawk in the Night (Madds Buckley)
If I could draw, I'd make this song into an animatic with this general set up for the lyrics. Tim would always be on one half of the screen, and Damian on the other. Anyway, enjoy this blurb thingy
****
"Oh baby bird, I'm glad you don't cry anymore. Be brave; one day you’ll fly, you'll soar. But dont forget where you come from, the vultures that watch your back"
Tim's parents standing eerily behind him, making sure he's perfect and Tim is just trying so hard
Damian, tiny, having the entire League watching him, waiting for him to make a mistake
"Oh baby bird, I'm glad that you quit your chirping, that songbird shit was worthless. And no one would've heard you hacking up a tune"
Tim, left alone in Drake Manor, not making noise anymore when he's hurt or sad. Learning to cry quietly because no one is coming for him.
Damian, being taught that crying is weakness and he can't have a weakness. There are too many enemies looking for just that.
"Sharpen your talons and fight. Claw at the world as it claws out your eyes. We raised you right, hawk in the night"
Tim's parents accepting Tim's good grades (something he has only because he's worked to achieve greatness, lost sleep over it. Because he has to make them proud)
Damian becoming a skilled fighter much too young (because he's lost sleep over it, stayed awake for hours perfecting a sword move in the hopes of making someone proud)
"Oh baby bird, I'm glad you don't smile anymore. It means you're strong, the weak never have their wings unfurled. You know your place. At least you're not fighting for scraps"
Tim, a practiced gala smile on his face when the situation calls for it. Because Janet was upset when he actually smiled. Too expressive. Too easy to exploit. A Drake is unmovable.
Damian, scowls quickly replacing toothy grins. Toothy grins were only for undercover missions, not real life. They are unbecoming of an Al Ghul. Of the son of "The Bat".
"Oh baby bird, I'm glad that you quit your laughing; it's too loud. That awful bubbly sound that would happen when you were a child"
'Too loud, Timothy. Children should be seen and never heard.' A phrase ingrained into his head; quiet voice, quiet hands, quiet life.
'Silence, Damian. Weapons of the League move swiftly and silently.' Silent, swift, secluded.
"Oh baby bird, the nightingale can't soar like an eagle; its wings are much too fragile. It's weak like its ego, but us child, you and I, we've got pride on our side"
Tim, chasing the Bats around Gotham. Just watching, but hoping, in the back of his mind, that he'll be caught. But he's not. And he wakes up in Drake Manor the next morning. Alone. A Drake.
Damian, hoping he'll do well enough to earn something about his Father. Anything. But he doesn't. And he can't. He goes to bed with an empty feeling in his chest. "The Bat".
"Oh baby bird, the hunting birds can live their lives alone. Who needs friends? A dead weight's all that other birds are made off. So fight the world, screech like a hawk in the sky"
Tim, alone in a too big manor, no longer waiting for the phone call that he knows won't come. Trying, desperately, to convince himself that he doesn't need anyone else. That he's fine alone. (Janet Drake's speech about his 'school chums' being beneath him weighs heavily on his mind. He doesn't need friends either)
Damian, outwardly unflinching at the blood on the floor. Inwardly, screaming the loss of his first (and, he swears, only) friend. There's not time for friends in the League.
"Sharpen your talons and fight"
Do as we say, Timothy
Again, Damian
"Claw at the world as it claws out your eyes"
Tim, trying to get someone to hear him
Damian, trying to get someone to see him
"We raised you right"
Tim, alone
Damian, alone
"Hawk in the night"
Robins
Obviously the whole ‘little Tim Drake is left all alone with only a housekeeper Mrs Mac who just comes briefly a few days a week” thing is often just for people who want that specific angst, not canon accuracy…
But I feel like a lot of people simply do not know that not only did Mrs Mac not work for the Drakes until Tim was already a 14 year old Robin, but she was a live-in maid. She lived at Drake Manor. Far from only popping in every few days, she was at Drake Manor almost 24/7 and Tim had to sneak past her to go on patrol sometimes.
Mrs Mac literally does not seem to have a place to live in the US other than where she is meant to stay in Drake Manor, because her husband lives in Kilkenny, Ireland and that’s where she goes back to when they had to fire her.
When Tim’s dad is gone she’s home with Tim making him meals and cleaning. When the Drakes briefly move across the country she moves with them because she lives with them. From what we see in comics Tim is rarely intentionally left home alone and when he is, not only is he already a teenager but also his dad is very conscientious of Tim being home alone.
(This does not, however, mean that Tim does not sneak away from supervision. He does that constantly. Case in point: when Bruce was looking for a kidnapped Jack Drake and Tim got away from Mrs Mac by claiming he was going on vacation with Ives when he was actually sleeping in his dad’s penthouse to do Robin stuff in the city.)
why are all the dp x dc fics about danny running away from his parents? no hate meant to abusive!jack/maddie enjoyers, but you guys do know that's fanon, right? canon jack and maddie are...complicated, but they do care for their kids and vice versa
anyway, give me a fenton family road trip to gotham. give me jack and maddie trying to capture the batman because they think hes a ghost. give me the fenton couple becoming buddies with the rogues gallery because they count as mad scientists
bruce, of course, learns about them trying to hunt danny and immediately tries to adopt him, but danny doesnt want to be adopted. he thinks his parents are fine (and he defenitely doesnt trust another creepy rich guy who wants to adopt him)
batman: "but theyre trying to hunt you?"
danny: "i know, but whats a family dynamic without trying to kill each other every once in a while?"
red hood: "he has a point"
tim "made up a fake uncle to avoid getting adopted" drake is the only one who understands danny's reluctance to be adopted and helps him escape from bruce. meanwhile, jack has no idea that bruce dislikes him and thinks theyve become best friends
No wonder you've done so many hateful posts about Jason Todd... You're Tim Drake.
Whaaa no you have no proof of these baseless accusations and definitely no evidence that could hold up in a court of law
