Back to back.

September 27.

Hi friend,

I'm sorry I didn't write yesterday. I have an extremely busy week this week with assignments, meetings after work, and other obligations. I'm having a hard time trying to navigate through my emotions. I still plan on continuing the series about my ex and our relationship. I just kinda want to focus on something else. So, yesterday I got some very exciting news. I was selected to be apart of a research team, which would eventually lead to my first publication. I am beyond thrilled for this to happen. It feels surreal to have it happen. Although, every accomplishment is dimmed a little by the thought of me doing this alone. It should feel empowering that I am able to do this alone without any help. It sound feel so good that I can make these kind of moves solo. Unfortunately, I wish I had someone more than a family member or a friend to talk about this with.

I know what you'll say and that shouldn't overshadow the amazing things I'm doing. It's just disheartening to do these things and not celebrate with someone I truly care for. It'll all work out in the end and know that I am grateful for what I have had and what I currently have. It'll work out in the best possible way...for me and hopefully for you too.

You’ve got to forgive yourself for being traumatized and needing to learn how to function again.

Recovery isn’t always nightmares and depression, it’s forgetting to eat, being scared of what others might see as completely normal things, it’s getting random panic attacks, not knowing how to take care of yourself, not knowing how to live like an adult, even if you’re twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, of feeling like you’re failing to function in a world where everyone seems to have their shit together.

If you need help, ask for it. Go to forums and ask for advice. Take advantage of community resources. Buy pre-sliced veggies and fruits, eat instant meals if you can’t cook for yourself today. Hire someone. Ask a neighbor for a favor. Buy any item you think might make life easier, even if you feel like you aren’t ‘disabled’ enough to have it.

Some of the depression posts (ie open your windows, take a shower, go outside, call a friend) are really helpful but they’re not always enough. I’ve found advice for spoonies, people with chronic pain or other disabilities have the best tips because they know what it’s like to be bedridden, out of energy, stuck in a brain fog.

You may never return back to the energy you had when you were younger and you might always need to use crutches to help you through life. It’s the same with medication.

Trauma is a real thing that happens to you, it physically alters your brain and it’s alright to have lasting scars.

You’re not broken, your life is not over and you can still be happy.

It’s not your fault.

some annoying ass guy asked “what are ur pronouns” bc I have a pin that says to ask. I said “they/them” and then left class. after school, my ex came up to me and said smth like “you know when (name) asked ur pronouns? he didn’t actually mean it.” I was like “nah it’s fine our class wouldn’t give a damn about it”. I thought he was being serious so I was talking to a friend about it on the way out of class, so I was a little disappointed. anyways my ex said she called him a fucking dick for it and was so sorry for the way we treated me. look, my ex and I haven’t spoken for months till now because I don’t like her and we want nothing to do w each other. despite my feelings, I fucking respect her for this. it seems the gays support each other even if they don’t like each other.

No for real why would you talk shit about your ex bc he made a joke (which included his mother, not just you), at a party that is entirely his family. His mother, two sisters, aunt, uncle, cousins, 2nd cousins, his wife (me), y'all child (who could have heard), his cousins friends that he's known for years.
