About how Bruce Wayne is autistic and you can't tell me I'm wrong. About why I headcanon Tim and Cass having fibromyalgia.
Or litterally ask me anything. Icm in pain and need a distraction via Tumblr.

They Should Have Never Given You the Word “Queerbait”
It’s been 5 years and I’m still thinking about this, so now I am going to vent a bit. I hate when there is a Black female protagonist who is queer coded and seemingly in a slow burn setting, and the viewers flag it as queerbait and disengage.
I feel like I have seen so many shows where people can take a character who is never even suggestively queer and nit pick even the smallest glimmers to validate reading them as such and they will be able to ship and create and support all of the ways this is a queer character and trust the writers to possibly give more.
But, when there are Black women in these areas, it falls down as soon as they aren’t given overt displays of wlw actions. I said its been 5 years, because I’m specifically thinking about Kiss Me First, but I also want to hit on Crazyhead, while I’m here because I feel like it got paid the same treatment in this regard. And both of those shows had such good writing, and as a Black queer woman WITH mental illness, both of these characters spoke to me and seeing them have potential for love stories for wlw stories was so rewarding, only to see the journey get bashed and the shows get cancelled.
So. Let me talk a minute. Starting with Kiss Me First.  If you haven’t already watched it, you probably aren’t going to, so I’m not sparing potential “spoilers,” as I’ve said, its been 5 years.
Tumblr media
Kiss Me First centers around this dynamic of an orphan, Leila, who recently lost her mom and is getting attached to a woman, Tess, that she met in this computer universe, who she also has befriended irl. Leila and Tess start off with some mystery, as you can’t tell what Tess’ intentions are for this woman, but you see very early on that Leila doesn’t necessarily trust people that are in Tess’ life. When Leila realizes that the person who Tess seems to care about the most is a dangerous and manipulative person, she does everything that she can to protect her.
The criticisms of the show were that people were “queerbaited” with the relationship between them because of the romantic and sexual relationships that these characters had with men and not with each other...
This is what is frustrating to me: So much of this series is realistic, INCLUDING the story arcs where these women are in relationships with men that don’t really serve them best. Real life queer people frequently have relationships with partners that they don’t really belong with before finding the love that they had been seeking. But, the moment it happens in media, especially with a Black woman, it is unbearable for audiences. They gotta see her eating box, or it ain’t real.
And it’s aggravating, because there is this fairy tale happening in which Leila literally is on a quest to save Tess. She knows that this guy is dangerous and her entire goal becomes making sure she rescues Tess from him. He lifts Tess on a pedestal and makes her feel like she is the most important person, but he is actually an abuser and preying upon this group that idolizes him, so Leila spends episodes working to get Tess out of his grasp.
In the end, they aren’t IN a queer relationship, but she has absolutely freed Tess and Tess is helping her to escape being framed by the enemy. They are “friends,” but if you have a queer eye, and are not racist, you’d be able to see that this is and was the entire time a fucking love story between these two women! If anything, they tossed in some dudes for the straights to pay attention. I’m livid every time somebody suggests that Kiss Me First is queerbait. To you, but not my Black, gay, bipolar ass. I loved it. I wanted to see them flourish. I wanted to be given the payoff, yes. But, I loved being able to see a beautiful love story between two fucked up people who were side by side at the end.
This happened in Crazyhead, as well.
Tumblr media
Raquel is a target for an apocalypse and do you know how Amy saved her and the world? By telling her she loved her and giving her a kiss that brought her back from the brink of destruction...
Now... I will admit, the writers did a “no homo” type thing at the end... but the homo in me seen the homo in thee, so I wasn’t bothered by that.
I just think that it is an unfair measurement, to expect everything to be served up for you in order to support representation, and not being able to detect subtext or to envision the potential coding shows a huge amount of privilege. I adore the fact that so much queer content as of late gets spoonfed to you, but I also enjoy a slow burn, and it’s not right that Black queer women rarely get one because you give up if there’s not an automatic tonguing and huge declarations. And in the cases of these two shows, there were very clear expressions of love and several moments of intimacy, but I guess they needed to trib for true love.
Anyways, I love Kiss Me First and Crazyhead, and I consider them representation FOR ME.

Important: This is not bad batch positive - This is how I personally think the characters should've been written in clone wars instead of the "regs" dynamic and white supremacy they had going on because a group of "desirable mutated" clones could've been a good concept to explore if Dave Filoni had employed ANY poc within the production and writing process. If you are a poc and/or have any of the disabilities mentioned (because I am unfamiliar with them and this is a simple headcanon), please feel free to add additions and improvements to more accurately represent yourselves and groups. This does not go into neurodivergencies, but as an autistic, I would also headcanon all four of them as neurodiverse in one way or another.
The clone DNA sample is running thin, the Kaminoans have been instructed to create a clone that would help end the war from the Republic Senate. This is how the "desirable mutuation" idea comes into conception.
They know the science, modifying Jango Fett's DNA with the desirable, amplified qualities instructed: Strength, Intelligence, Hunting Skills, Sharpshooting. The "how" was more difficult, with the DNA so stretched and the modifications adding extra tension, the clones needed medical attention constantly throughout the process.
This lead to the four clones of Hunter, Wrecker, Crosshair and Tech. Four still very visibly Jango clones, all with Polynesian features and dark brown skin like mahogany.
The Intelligence clone - Tech - is partially blind in one eye and hard of hearing, his glasses which he created with the aid of Wrecker (because if your expertise is explosions, you excel in engineering) have a built in hearing aid. He mainly communicates in ASL (Aurebesh Sign Language), which he taught his batchmates to at the very least understand. (I also headcanon this version of Tech as autistic and has selective mutism). Tech has the darkest skin tone out of all of his batchmates, and tight coily hair. He closely resembles this specific photo of young Temuera Morrison.
Tumblr media
The Sharpshooting clone - Crosshair - has a prosthetic, born without his right leg. He had to extra spend time in Kaminoan facilities as a child, focusing on physio and less time on the small shooting range facility where he wished to be instead. He can still struggle with his prosthetic on missions and in daily life in the bunks on Kamino. The prosthetic does match his brown skin tone in places and others it is all robotic (hidden underneath his clone uniform and armor) - It has been specifically reinforced for combat with the help of Tech and Wrecker modifying the original. I picture this photo of younger Temuera Morrison as looking closest to Crosshair.
Tumblr media
The Strength clone - Wrecker. Unsurprising to some, his disability is hidden. Despite being the strongest clone and having an expertise in delicate weaponry & explosives, Wrecker has chronic fatigue from his mutation. The strength and stress produced too high levels of cortisol and adrenaline within his body, and it created a clone with intense strength and precision but also came with the cost of an autoimmune disorder. Wrecker is constantly fatigued, and has to rely on the supply of medicines to ease his disorder. Despite his precise hands to deal with explosives, they often shake or cramp up, and his legs often give way. On his worse days, his batchmates take care of him. (I also headcanon Wrecker as ADHD). I picture this version of younger Temuera Morrison as looking closest to him.
Tumblr media
The Hunting Skills clone - Hunter. I sat with this one for a while and ultimately settled on the headcanon that he needs a stoma bag and has Crohn's disease. Because of this, he is irregularly thin for a clone which was how it was first investigated by the Kaminoans. He is very short compared to his batchmates too as a result of childhood Crohn's and only stands at a 5'1 compared to his batchmates and other clones who average at the original DNAs 5'7". Despite these issues, he is the best hunter of the group and his height is advantageous for reaching small spaces his batchmates cannot, especially on infiltration missions. Similar to Wrecker, he suffers with chronic fatigue as a result. Hunter also has ARFID (Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) which means his diet is very limited and has to have accommodations in the clone cafeterias - On missions, his hunting skills aid this because he can always track food he is able to eat without problems. He also takes medications for easing his symptoms. I picture this version of Temuera Morrison as closest to Hunter.
Tumblr media
As a bonus for those who wish to include Echo in these headcanons, here is how I picture him with the source being younger Temuera Morrison. He does regain more melanin overtime but at his palest, this is how I picture it.
Tumblr media
Plus, they don't use the term "Regs" in this AU and don't believe they are superior to other clones & instead value other clones especially those like Commander Wolffe who have disabilities too, which is why they accept Echo with open arms into their Clone Force Unit, and even have 99 as the honorary first clone in their batch posthumously. They use the term "Bad Batch" as a reclamation term as that is how the Kaminoans and bounty hunters who trained them referred to them due to their disabilities & desirable mutations. And most importantly, they are anti-racist and anti-eugenics - because they are disabled brown men.
In case this post wasn't clear enough, this is very anti The Bad Batch show and the racist, pro-eugenics writings they have within the source material. This is a complete rework of the four bad batchers seen within clone wars season 7. I am not Polynesian or have experience with majority of the disabilities within my headcanons here, so all improvements and additions by those minority groups are heavily encouraged. Fanworkings of these headcanons are also perfectly welcome, provided there is no whitewashing of the characters or erasure of their heritage and disabilities within the work. These headcanons are my own and if you do any fan works with them, I would love to see it, as I am going to be treating my headcanon Bad Batch and canon Bad Batch as two separate entities as majority of the characterisation heavily differs from canon - and it is what representation we deserved to have.
I will repeat, this headcanon is NOTHING to do with the bad batch show and canon characterisations of the bad batch seen in clone wars. If you support Filoni's writings of the characters, this post is not for you. This is also to illustrate how easily Filoni could have wrote good representation with the concept and actively chose not to. If you do engage with this headcanon set, make sure you are openly uplifting voices and movements from poc about this show, an example being the unwhitewashtbb movement.

26th September 2022
Monday
This book is SO VALUABLE. By that I mean that the stories of life and life as a parent told by people who identify as Deaf, disabled or chronically ill are VALUABLE. They're valuable to all marginalised people, and they're valuable to those of us who perhaps don't meet visibly disabled people in our everyday life but WANT TO JUST BE A BETTER HUMAN. Internalised abelism is something that has to be combated EVERY DAY and this collection of stories has been both fun to read, and has definitely broken down day by day the abelism my brain tries to tie me to.
VERY INTERESTING and important stories of those parents with intellectual disabilities too.
People, just give this book a go. I highly recommend it 😊

How The Owl House did amputee representation right before Eda ever lost her arm - Disability in Media
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of Eda from The Owl House, an old woman with pale skin, very large, grey hair and pointed ears in a red dress. Beside the screenshot on a dark pink background is text that reads "Disability in media, How the Owl House got amputee representation right before eda ever lost her arm." /End ID]
Dana Terrace's The Owl House has some of the best disability rep I’ve seen on a Disney channel show in a long time, with Eda, the main character’s mentor, being one of many stand-out examples.
Plenty of people have discussed how Eda’s curse and the loss of her magic can work as an allegory for disability and how refreshing it is to see a story (especially one aimed at a younger audience) who’s focus is not on her “overcoming” it, but learning to accept it as a part of her and go from there. Eda’s story tackles a lot of subjects that are often mishandled in other examples of disability representation, from the subject of parents who refuse to accept, to glass siblings and much, much more, The Owl House handles all these topics beautifully.
But one thing that dawned on me during my most recent re-watch of The Owl House is how well Eda (and later Lilith) worked as amputee representation, long before Eda actually lost her arm.
One of the side effects of Eda and Lilith’s curse is that sometimes their body parts, mainly their limbs, can fall off. It doesn’t hurt them, and Eda is seen removing them intentionally at multiple times in the series, but they can always be reattached.
Tumblr media
[ID: an image of Eda holding her sister Lilith's hand. Lilith is a pale woman with long, black hair, wearing grey clothes. She is looking at her other arm suprised, as her hand is missing. Luz, a Latina girl with short brown hair and a purple hoodie is looking on, smiling. /End ID]
While most likely unintentional, the way the show depicts this with Eda in particular is exactly what I wish more people would do with their prosthetic-using amputee characters.
Eda detaches her limbs, especially her legs, when they’re inconvenient or when she’s relaxing.
Tumblr media
[ID: an image of Eda laying on the couch in a bathrobe, her hair in a towel. She has taken her legs off, throwing them to the other side of the seat. /End ID]
The fact that this is mostly played for laughs is actually a good thing in my opinion (though obviously, the show’s overall tone is part of that), as it shows the audience who are mostly children and teens, that in a world of weird and downright scary (from the perspective of the characters) things, this isn't one of them. It’s just a thing she and Lilith can do, and it can even be funny.
Tumblr media
[ID: An image of Luz and Eda dressed as pirates. Eda is sitting on the ground, her legs detached and off screen somewhere. /End ID]
It does startle Luz and Lilith on a few occasions, but that’s more because they didn’t know the curse could do that, but once they’re introduced to it, it’s never really brought up as a big deal again.
I’d love to see more amputee characters who do this with their prosthetics. So often media is almost afraid to have amputees take their prosthetics off on camera or on the page. For some folks, our prosthetics are like a part of our bodies, but that doesn’t mean we never take them off. Show your leg amputee flop on the couch and throw their legs across the room. Have them go without on occasion, not because they have to, but because they just don’t feel like putting them on.
Likewise, the owl house creators never shy away from showing Eda when her limbs aren’t all attached. A lot of media, and kid’s shows in particular, will avoid having an amputee character’s stump visible if they ever do take their prosthetics off - treating that part of the character’s body the same way they treat gore or nudity. I’ve talked before how this actually does have a real impact on how kids in particular react to amputees - I’ve legitimately had kids I worked with cry when I took my prosthetics off, then immediately calm down when they see there’s nothing "scary" under my socks. As much as I love How To Train Your Dragon, it’s very guilty of this. Hiccup looses his leg at the end of the first movie, and wakes up with his prosthetic already attached. The Netflix series has a few instances where he has his prosthetic off, but the camera almost always avoids showing it until he can cover it up again, or is super zoomed-out so you wouldn’t be able to “see anything”. To their credit, they do get better with this in the last movie (though it's still always covered), but for the majority of the series, they are very reluctant to have any shots where hiccup’s leg is in view without the prosthetic (unless they’re very far away).
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot of Hiccup from How To Train Your Dragon 3, a white man with short brown hair, and one leg missing, wearing armour made of black dragon scales and no prosthetic. He is holding onto toothless's head, a black dragon. /End ID]
Ironically, Eda does (permanently) loose an arm at the end of season 2, but I don’t really have much to say about her as amputee representation on that front, since she’s absent for a lot of Season 3, and when we do see her again, everything is so hectic, the story doesn’t really have any time to focus on her missing limb (which is reasonable). I will say, I do appreciate that they kept the amputation when she's in her owl-beast form in the finale, but there's honestly not much more to say about it. We do see her again in the epilogue after she’s had some time to settle into the amputation, wearing a hook prosthetic, but it’s, once again, too quick to really say anything from a representation standpoint. There's a few little nit-picky things I could bring up, like the fact they seemed to change the type on amputation she had (when she looses it, we see the split was very close to the elbow, but in the epilogue she has most of her forearm again) but those read to me more like animation mistakes or an odd prosthetic/clothing designs rather than a representation issue - and as someone who's worked in animation, given the stress the team was under for the finale, I'm not really worried about it. Like I said, it's more nit-picky than anything.
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of Eda, her hair tied back and wearing a red robe and a hook for her right hand. /End ID]
Despite all that though, I still think Eda is still good amputee representation, but mostly because of how they depict her curse’s side effects rather than her actual amputation. She’s honestly one of the only characters that I think you could refer to as “amputee coded” (outside of maybe Teen Titan’s Cyborg), and I genuinely wish more creators would treat their actual amputee characters the same way the Owl House treats Eda in that regard.

Infodumping༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆𖦹.✧˚
“Matt, come here! Now!” You squealed from your shared bedroom, your joy infectious as you bounced up and down on the bed happily.
You could hear the sound of your boyfriend running up the stairs, followed by him bursting through the door, slightly out of breath. “What’s up, honey?” he asked with a smile, noting your happy stims and luminous grin.
“Taylor’s going on tour!” You giggled, shaking your hands in small fists as a way to release all the happy, all-consuming energy that came with engaging in a special interest.
“Oh really?” Matt asked genuinely, sitting beside you on the bed. “Tell me more, hun!” he encouraged you, kissing your cheek gently so as not to get in the way of your movements.
“It’s going to be a tour where she goes through every era,” You smiled, happily bouncing on the bed. “We have to go.”
“We will,” Matt rubbed your knee softly. “As many dates as you want.”
“Really?” Your eyes lit up at the thought of getting to experience your special interest with your favorite person.
“Really, honey. What album are you most excited to hear?”
Matt looked at you kindly, his eyes shining with love. He absolutely loved watching how excited you got over your special interests. You had been a huge Taylor Swift fan for over ten years now, and the brunette wished that he could bottle up your happiness whenever you engaged with her music. He would almost equate your joy to that of sunshine, baby animals, and glitter. Where some people thought you were “just a fangirl” or “too obsessed”, Matt loved listening when you infodumped about Taylor Swift. The sheer dedication someone could have to a singular topic was beyond impressive and adorable to him.
“That’s really hard, Matt,” You whined playfully, still happily stimming and flapping your hands. “I really like Lover a lot because it reminds me of you, but I also want to hear reputation because it’s just so iconic. Like the whole snake aesthetic after the Kim and Kayne thing was just perfect. But then I also love folklore because of the love triangle thing and also because it’s just so experimental. Did you know that there was only eleven months between Lover and folklore?” You asked your boyfriend, becoming more animated as you spoke.
“I didn’t know that!” Matt responded, clearly very invested in the conversation. “Here hun, why don’t you play with this instead? I don’t want you to hurt your wrists, sweetie.” he explained softly, passing you a fidget toy that was laying on your nightstand.
You blushed as you took the toy from him, not even realizing just how bad your wrists were hurting. “You’re the best boyfriend ever, do you know that?” You asked him, slowly crawling across the bed and into his lap.
“I think I had an idea or two.” Matt smirked.
You began to play with the fidget toy with one hand and Matt’s hair with the other. You still felt the need to stim, your nervous system buzzing with happiness. Whenever you felt the need to fidget, you loved to mess with your boyfriend’s hair, and he always let you. The way his soft, brown curls slid through your fingers and the way his natural highlights hit the light gave you such good sensory feelings.
“Thank you for listening to me…I know it’s a lot sometimes.” You whispered shyly, hiding your face against his hoodie.
Matt rubbed circles on your back as you played with his hair. “I love listening to you talk Taylor, baby. I think it’s interesting.” he grinned.
“You do?”
“I do,” he booped your nose. “I think it’s cute too.”
“Do you think she’s gonna go era by era?” You asked, still too excited to focus on much else besides your special interest. “I hope so. That would be so much fun.”
“You’re gonna have to teach me everything,” Matt giggled. “I can’t be one of those boyfriends who goes and looks miserable.”
You squealed, untangling your hands from his hair and planting a kiss on his lips. “Oh hun, you’re gonna be the most educated boy in the stadium. You’ll know more Taylor lore than Taylor
Parallel Play ༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆𖦹.✧˚
You sighed happily, pulling your blanket closer around yourself and taking a sip of your coffee. Thankfully, Matt had a completely free day with nothing to film, which meant you could just enjoy each other’s company. These days were few and far between, but you treasured every one because of how unmasked and free they allowed you to be.
You sat your mug down on the coffee table and picked up the yarn and crochet hook you had set out earlier. Matt sat at the other end of the couch, feet in your lap as he focused intently on his book. You felt your heart swell with love as you took a peek at the cover, and noted that it was a memoir about understanding and aiding your partner in their unmasking journey.
Matt was by far the best boyfriend you had ever had when it came to accepting and loving you, neurodivergence and all. Finding a man who didn’t fetishize or infantilize being an autistic woman was hard, but the brunette was a diamond in the rough. Like right now for example, when he was spending his Saturday morning that he had off learning about how to understand the way your brain worked.
You blushed and picked up your crocheting, beginning to work on the blanket you had started earlier in the week. You had picked a chenille yarn in pretty pastel colors, and the rainbow of yarn, as well as its soft feel made you smile. You began to crochet, taking a peek at Matt every so often. Occasionally, your boyfriend would look up at the same time and catch your eye, sending you a soft smile before going back to reading.
The silence wasn’t awkward, nor was it uncomfortable. Matt had a way of making you feel loved and safe, even without speaking the words out loud. Having grown up with his own mental health struggles around anxiety, your boyfriend understood the importance of “being alone together” and just existing in each other's orbit, without the need for words.
“Thank you.” You whispered shyly after about thirty minutes of silence.
“For what?” Matt asked you, closing the book and setting it on the pillow next to him.
You sat down your craft as well and moved to snuggle into his arms, angling yourself so that you could hear the beat of his heart. “For just letting me be me.”
The brunette buried his nose in your hair, speaking softly against his head. “I love you.”
“You just let me be and we can do our own things without feeling awkward or weird,” You explained. “It’s comforting…and it makes me fall more in love with you.” You giggled softly, a blush creeping up your neck.
Matt held you closer to his body, arms wrapped around you protectively. “You’re perfect, baby. All of you.”
As you snuggled further into his hold, the two of you fell into companionable silence again, enjoying each other’s company. It really was the little moments like these that made you realize just how lucky you were to be in such an accepting, caring relationship.
Support Swapping ༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆𖦹.✧˚
Over the past year of dating Matt, you had fallen into a wonderful routine with your boyfriend, one that allowed you to distribute your spoons more easily and allowed him a slight break from his anxiety, especially socially.
“Support Swapping” as you two called it was great help and was arguably one of the best parts of your relationship. Being autistic and having ADHD, you tended to struggle with executive functioning, always focusing on the wrong things instead of doing what you needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. If you were hyperfixated on something, your mind could block out all reminders and signals from your body to eat, drink, rest, and use the bathroom. Once you finally realized how depleted you were, it would inevitably lead to an autistic meltdown because of the overwhelming sensory urges of hunger, exhaustion, and thirst.
Matt, on the other hand, oftentimes struggled with parts of his job that came along with being a content creator. As much as he loved being in front of the camera and giving the fans funny content, he despised writing and sending emails. Nick could edit out anything that made him seem a little too weird or awkward; he couldn’t control how the recipient would take his email. You however, had loved writing ever since you were a little girl and actually took great pride in being able to communicate effectively through the written word.
When you had voiced these concerns with each other and how they made both of you feel emotionally, it was clear there was only one option, and that was to support each other, just like you were on this particular day. It was nearing dinnertime by this point, the sun setting over the LA skyline as you tapped at the computer in Matt’s office. You had been hunched over the computer all day, filling out paperwork and emails for collabs that Matt had to do. You typed up all the notes for him, pasting them into a document, where he could then sign his name and send them off. Between your love of the written word and routine, writing the same thing over and over again was like a weird therapy for you.
“Sweetheart?” You heard a soft knock at the door before Matt entered the room.
“One sec.” You hummed, eyes still trained on the screen. “I’m almost done.”
“Babe,” Matt spun you around in the office chair so that you were facing him. “I love you and I adore you for doing this for me, but it’s almost seven. Time for dinner.” he chuckled, planting a kiss on your lips.
“Oh,” You blushed, not realizing how much time had gone by. Just then, your stomach rumbled, making Matt give you a knowing look. “This is why we help each other and remind each other.” You snorted, facepalming yourself softly.
Matt kissed your forehead gently, helping you out of the chair and guiding you towards the kitchen with a soft hand on the small of your back. Before you two left the office, though, he sneakily closed out your computer, making sure you would spend the rest of the evening resting. Your heart swelled when you walked into the kitchen and saw your and Matt’s small dining table completely laid with dinner and drinks.
“You didn’t.” You smiled, turning towards your boyfriend.
“I did,” Matt picked you up and kissed you as you wrapped your legs around his waist. “I know how distracted you can get when you’re working, sweetheart.”
You blushed as Matt sat you down at the table, knowing he was absolutely right. “You take care of me so well.”
Matt rubbed your knuckles softly as he sat down in his own chair. “That’s what a partnership is for,” he smiled, the adorable crinkles around his eyes that you loved oh-so-much on full display. “We take care of each other.”
"Please Crush My Soul Back Into My Body" ༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆𖦹.✧˚
You sighed, growing restless as you shifted around in the backseat of the van. The triplets were filming their weekly Friday car video, and you had decided to join on this particular day. You absolutely loved playing Over/Under, but the effects of the evening were beginning to wear on you. Between Chris frequently changing topics to almost anything that wasn’t Over/Under and Nick’s yelling, you were starting to become overstimulated.
You shifted, trying to pull your hoodie off since it was starting to irritate you, only to loudly smack your arm on the hard, plastic door of the car. All three boys looked your way, making your cheeks burn with embarrassment.
“Are you okay?” Matt asked with a chuckle, but his eyes held a concerned look.
“Mhm,” You nodded, trying not to let your frustration show. “Just a little too hot.”
“We should finish up. Nick’s second timer has already gone off.” Matt turned in his seat and stretched, trying to discreetly end the video.
Matt knew you almost as well, if not better than you knew yourself, and he could tell that you weren’t super comfortable, despite your best efforts to hide it. Even he had to admit that Chris’s frequent change of topics and Nick’s yelling was getting to be a lot, so he couldn’t even imagine how you were feeling. Luckily, his brothers seemed to take the hint, and the boys swiftly ended the video, with you whispering a little ‘bye’ in the background.
As your boyfriend began to try towards the triplets' LA home, you shoved your earbuds into your ears, closing your eyes and leaning your head against the window. You were overstimulated and exhausted, and the next person to add to sensory overload was going to catch it if you didn’t try to calm yourself. You were so caught up in the awful feelings taking over your body and your anxiety that you didn't even notice that Matt had pulled into the garage and Nick and Chris had vacated the car until your boyfriend turned in his seat, patting your knee.
“You okay, baby?” he asked softly.
“No…” You mumbled, trying not to choke on tears. “Too much.”
Matt understood what you meant and gently helped you out of the car and into the house without another word. On the way to your shared bedroom, he quietly shushed Nick and Chris, mumbling a little ‘overstimulated’. Both brothers were aware of you being autistic and immediately piped down, silently feeling terrible for you.
Your boyfriend sat you down on the edge of the bed, handing you a fidget toy from off your nightstand. Despite the discomfort you were experiencing, you felt your heart swell as you watched Matt gently take off your socks and shoes, before standing up and looking at you.
“Do you want your headphones?” he asked you in sign language.
You could’ve cried right then and there because of your sheer love for Matt. Ever since you two had started dating and you had explained that you used ASL to communicate when you were feeling overstimulated, the brunette had taken it upon himself to learn as much of the language as possible. He was still rather beginner level, but it was the thought behind it that made you want to squeeze him and pepper his face with kisses.
You nodded to his question, and Matt swiftly replaced your earbuds with better quality, noise canceling headphones. You sighed softly at the relief, standing up and wrapping your arms around your boyfriend's waist. “Thank you,” You signed against his chest. “I love you.”
Matt hugged you back gently, almost like he was scared you would break. “Pajamas?” he asked again.
You nodded once more, and your boyfriend gently helped you into soft, sensory approved pajama pants and one of his faded, soft shirts. You quietly got curled up under your weighted blanket as Matt bustled around the room, getting himself ready for bed, but the pressure wasn’t enough. You needed something more. As your boyfriend crawled into bed, you rolled over onto your side, tapping his shoulder gently.
“Will you lay on me?” You signed.
Matt smiled, kissing your forehead gently. He grabbed the remote and turned on your comfort show on the television, before laying his head softly on your stomach. You smiled and sighed contently at the feeling, running your fingers through his soft, brown curls. That was one of your favorite stims, and the feeling of Matt’s pressure, combined with stimming and noise canceling headphones, was slowly calming you down.
Over the hour that followed, Matt softly laid more and more of his body weight over top of you. He knew that deep pressure therapy helped you regulate your nervous system, especially when you were overstimulated. If some extra love and cuddles would help, he wasn’t going to be the one to complain. Sure enough, by the time he looked up at you, you were fast asleep, a happy little smile on your lips.
Penguin Pebbling ༘˚⋆𐙚。⋆𖦹.✧˚
Matt looked over at you from his position on the couch as you giggled, happily kicking your feet. “What’s so funny?” “Check your Tiktok.” You laughed, a happy little smile taking up residence on your face as you stimmed.
Your boyfriend smiled at whatever antics you had going on, migrating to his phone. You let out a little giggle as you watched Matt’s facial expressions change, from that of confusion, to that of happiness.
“You really sent me one hundred and fifty different cat videos?” he asked, though his tone was playful.
“They reminded me of you,” You whined, throwing a stuffed animal at him. “You’re the one who always sends people images of sleeping kittens and says ‘that’s me’.”
Matt chuckled as he sat watching every single video. He knew how important sharing was to you, especially when it had to do with the people you cared about. “Penguin pebbling” as it was called, was the act of unconventional gift giving as a sign of affection. Your boyfriend absolutely loved when you did this, because it was pure love. It wasn’t big, expensive gifts or luxury vacations. It was the smallest, most accessible thing in the world, yet you took time out of your day to do it.
“Have I ever told you I love you?” the brunette asked, sliding onto the floor beside you and kissing your cheek.
“Maybe once or twice.” You grinned.

Please tell me how Duke,Cass and Stephanie getting nonstop left out of Batfam content isn't because of antiblackness, racialized misogyny and a mix of gender essentialism, classism and ableism. When none of you can shut the fuck up about how 'black haired and blue eyed male is the only requirement for a Batkid!' and go as far as to include 'pale/fair skinned' sometimes when Damian and Dick are brownskin in multiple versions because of being brown in heritage and Damian and Jason have green eyes half the time and by saying 'lighteyed' when it comes to Batboys, that would be problematic but it'd at least include Duke since he's gold eyed due to Gnonom and you probably don't even know who that is since you actively refuse to meet Duke even though he's easiest Batkid to read for BECAUSE he's got so little content and Cass and Stephanie also have a small amount of material compared to the other boys
When Cass is chosen over Duke for Jason by all of you even though she hates him and she chooses Stephanie again and again against everyone's wishes and Duke canonically WANTS to be chosen for fucking once and Jason DID choose him and is the only other Batboy who called him a Robin directly outside of Robin War and Stephanie's dying wish was be 'a real Robin' and Cass' character creation purpose is to defy the idea that asian women exist only for white men and go against other asian girl stereotypes,INCLUDING being purely soft and feminine by making her a rough and tough butch who hates cis men. When you say 'Fuck canon, fanon is better!' to justify your millions of rewrites to erase Tim's Robin being a romani man and his Batgirl a half chinese girl and Jason's Robin and Batgirl being a black autistic boy and his Batgirl a bpdtistic male explotation victim and your crossovers of characters who have the perfect parents or at least caretakers in canon but suddenly, canon is your gospel when it comes to the bigotry in it's writing i.e how 'The core Batkids' came to be
And the fact is,that's like the only Batkids combo that DOSEN'T make sense! The Dead Robins Club is a no brainer but there's also the 90s Batkids trinity, the Shakespearen Robins(Jason,Stephanie and Duke),The Troubled Batkids(Tim,Stephanie,Cass and Duke),Batman!Cass Batwoman!Stephanie Robin!Maps and Trans Batgirl!Damian and the ONLY CANON Nightwing Robin and Batgirl trio we've ever gotten in Dick Tim and Cass??????You have some of the best dynamics of all time possible but nah, you'd rather pass it over for infantalizing a grown ass disabled moc into your pathetic lil pretty obsessed manchild, turning thee dead sidekick into a convuluted mess more than canon ever has and that's saying BIG words, cringeifying someone who just has the personality of an ordinary of 17 year old boy and is therefore inherently lovable into the arranged marriage lovechild of a dark romance guy and a pick me quotev girl and dehumanize a cute and sweet lil brown boy who's got that trauma already to turn him into an animal in human mold in the same breath you bash him healing enough to get a gf through trauma bonding and being kiddy together in favor of your groody ass lil age gap fantasy-Actually,that applies to ALL OF THEM
Kory,Rose and STEPHANIE are infinitely better written love interests for Dick,Jason and Tim than any older man you want them to get with,Tim most of all because he's not even a man,he's a boy.Cass and Stephanie are adults and have been for a long time in multiple incarnations so why not make Stephcass smut instead? Why not 'Duke joins the Batfam early/Jason takes Duke into The Outlaws after he has a fight with Bruce that scared him/Sleep Deprived Duke Thomas/Chaotic Duke Thomas/Duke Thomas deserves better/Trans Duke Thomas/Autistic Duke Thomas?,all of which are infinitely more implicable to Duke than they are to Tim and so is 'Token Normal Tim Drake'?When you make this content or you support it,you're saying something. You're saying you don't care about representation and perfer stereotyping and abusive dynamics because you believe they're inherently more interesting
Before you judge this post, consider the following:Which one of us has read enough comics and watched enough adaptions to know all this?Which one of us has more of a right to call themself a Batfam and Batkids fan?Which one of us is constantly gatekeeping Duke,Cass and Stephanie from their own story and pulling the 'No,YOU!!!!' card? It's absolutely pathetic how desperate the grip Batfanon has taken is and even more so that y'all refuse to move on from it like i did. It's not gonna kill you,you pissbabies. And just curious, how long was the last Batfam-centric post you rb'd?Longer than this, right?

Rewatching Bo Burnham's Inside.
I'm never ever gonna get over how everyone watched this and wrote essays and how even liberals were watching it and how white people STILL posted tiktoks about how THEY were socko (a clear representation of PoC experiences in liberal spaces) and now people are like vote for Joe Biden!!
Like I???????
these people could literally have the problem blasted directly into their fucking brains and treat it like a personality for a month and they would STILL yell at me when I say our government is the problem and that we need to address it from outside their white comfort zone. That their comfort zone is in fact holding progress back.
I frfr can not believe the reality I've found myself in as a disabled native
Tumblr media
'What can I do to help?'
'Read a book or something, I don't know Just don't burden me with the responsibility of educating you. It's incredibly exhausting'
'I'm sorry, Socko. I was just trying to become a better person'
'Why do you rich fucking white people insist on seeing every socio-political conflict through the myopic lens of your own self-actualization? This isn't about you. So either get with it, or get out of the fucking way'
'Watch your mouth, buddy. Remember who's on whose hand here.'
'But that's what I- Have you not been fucking listening? We are entrenched in a way- (starts to put Socko away) Wait, wait, no please! I don't wanna go back, please! I can't go, I can't go back. Please, please, I'm sorry!'
'Are you gonna behave yourself?'
'Yes'
'Yes, what?'
'Yes, sir'
'Look at me'
'Yes, sir'
'That's better'
Like what level of dystopian is that this was Everywhere just a few years ago and STILL people are saying shit like 'i think the brown ppl's expectations should be more realistic cuz we definitely need to vote to keep killing them overseas to save the white gays on us soil'

What are some of your other favourite medieval misconceptions? Everyone only ever wore shades of brown?
Other "favorite" medieval misconceptions, "favorite" here having the meaning of "cause my eye to start twitching uncontrollably and a red haze to descend" include:
Everyone in the Middle Ages was always dirty, miserable, and sad
Peasants worked all the time and were constantly on the verge of starving to death (bonus points if "all medieval people were peasants")
Everything was violent, bloody, and "barbaric"
People could expect to get gruesomely dismembered at all times and for any reason
Politics was exactly like Game of Thrones/Game of Thrones is an Accurate Representation of the Medieval World/pretty much anything whatsoever citing Game of Thrones as historical text
Everyone in medieval Europe was white, straight, cisgender, and Christian
Disabled people were ignored/destroyed/"put into asylums" (because the medieval era is exactly like Victorian England!) and/or had no recognition in their community and/or were just left to die
Queer people did not exist/were always persecuted/had no opportunities or framework to live/identify like "modern" people
"Medieval history" only refers to Europe and/or Europeans
Pretty much anything to do with the Vikings, whether in far right/white supremacy or Oooh The Vikings Were So Liberal
The all-powerful Catholic church completely controlled everyone's minds and everyone blindly obeyed them in all things until suddenly, one day the Renaissance happened! Yay!
The Renaissance suddenly gave women rights!
The Enlightenment suddenly gave women rights!
[Fill in the blank] suddenly gave women rights!
Evil historians are hiding the real truth of [insert marginalized group here] from you
The only thing medieval people cared about was religion and they were all religious zealots
Conversely: people were always desperately trying to break free from the church but they were constantly stopped from doing so because the church was, again, all-powerful
Women were silent, illiterate, uneducated, oppressed, and only ever expected to serve their husband/have endless babies/keep the house clean (which somehow coexists in their minds with "everything was dirty all the time")
Women always died in childbirth
Women did not have jobs, education, or any recognition in society
Women could never be rulers, warriors, or any other "male" job
Women could constantly expect to be raped and this was a normal and natural part of medieval society (bonus points if invoked to defend some modern "medieval" media as "historically accurate")
Women were constantly viewed as witches in the premodern era
Anything a woman did that was "unusual" would get her accused (and often killed) for witchcraft
There were no cosmetics, beauty standards, personal hygiene, etc., so people never combed their hair, dressed nicely, used makeup, washed, etc etc
Medieval people/society had no use for artists/art, literature, books, classics, or other high culture, because that was all instantly forgotten when Rome fell and nobody found it again until the Renaissance
Medieval people all died when they were thirty
Medieval people never traveled more than 10 miles from home
Medieval people never questioned their society/their place in the world/anything else; they just accepted their lot in life without complaint
Things have been a perfect straight line of progress ever since and modernity is "better"
Do I have some things to get off my chest here?
Maybe
You can't prove it
Shh

Really enjoy how incorrectly the cishets and NTs perceive Bob's Burgers.
The fandom on other platforms (particularly insta & Reddit) are so emotionally stunted lmao. Seeing fans say Gene is "just a gay boy who likes drag", like, what? What show are you watching? Because my brethren you couldn't be further from the truth. To say Gene being "fruity" equates to him being a they/them-exclusive user is SO off the mark that I'm actually convinced they haven't even watched the show.
And like. The show creators have EXPLICITLY shared show stills of neurodiversity representation on their socials (i.e. sunflower = invisible disability). Yet the cishets/NTs/ "normals" are SO assured their perception of the media is the only correct one that they directly IGNORE these Easter eggs. Like. The first season is leagues ahead of it's time for trans representation yet the cishets only perceive it as "haha tranny jokes :))))”. The media literacy (or lack thereof) is genuinely hysterical to witness at this point.
It's not even just LGBT or ND either, it's so apparent that Gene is heavily influenced by various black and brown cultures. Between his love for "foreign" (non-us) foods, and his love for black music (queen latifah U.N.I.T.Y.), Gene is quite evidently influenced by cultures of colour(gr?). Yet the insta and Reddit side of the fandom absolutely REFUSE to acknowledge this. It's the LeFt putting PrOpAgAnDa in a KiDs ShOw🥴. Honestly ridiculous. Americans are so funny.
I do feel bad that such a huge continent has such laughable education that it's led to this level of poor media literacy. But like, you don't have to confidently run in the wrong direction my guys.
How has a concept that is so silly and simple managed to perplex so many people? What a time🤭

How to Avoid Token Representation
Tumblr media
What's the difference between token representation and authentic representation? NaNo Participant Nayantara discusses token representation and how to avoid doing it in your own writing! The smart Asian character. The sassy Black character. The Gay Best Friend.
Too many stories written today that supposedly have “diverse” casts fall prey to “token representation”: a symbolic effort towards inclusion that gives the appearance of equality, without actually exploring diverse narratives.
Recently in the publishing industry, readers have been calling for more representation within their novels, whether it is the LGBTQ+ community, racially and ethnically diverse readers, people with disabilities, or other marginalised groups of people, and many authors have responded with this easy-way-out tokenism — leaving readers unsatisfied and indignant.
So, what exactly is the difference between token diversity and real representation?
Essentially, tokenism includes a character that checks boxes titled “diversity” in face and name, but does not acknowledge their lived experience.
For example, Cho Chang in the Harry Potter series and Lane Kim in Gilmore Girlsare reduced to harmful stereotypes of their characters (both their names and characteristics) without acknowledging the diverse experiences that East Asian people have. Their Asianness becomes their entire character, yet at the same time, that same Asianness is entirely misunderstood.
In contrast, the recent Oscar-winning film Everything Everywhere All At Once stars East Asian characters whose lives are affected by their race and background. However, they are fully fleshed out characters regardless of it.
As actor, Anna Leong Brophy, said in an interview, she enjoys it when her “Asianness complements a role, but is not the full role.” Real representation acknowledges how someone’s lived experience as a person of colour, queer person, woman, or member of another marginalised community affects their life — but they have genuine feelings, thoughts, and characteristics far beyond simply their race or identity.
The terms “Black dude dies first” and “Bury your gays” are also commonly associated with token representation. Quite self-explanatory, they are tropes in which the cast’s “diverse” characters are killed early, to save the writer from having to explore or acknowledge their experiences.
Not only is this lazy writing that erases diverse narratives, it also creates the subconscious belief that marginalised groups of people have no place in these stories or in commercialised publishing in general. Everyone deserves representation, whether or not the cis-het (cisgender-heterosexual) white reader can relate to the character’s specific cultural experience.
What counts as good representation, then?
Good representation involves any story that includes a diverse cast and follows each of their story lines fully, allowing them to be well-rounded characters that contain depth and get adequate development.
My personal favourite example of this is Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows duology, where her cast of six main characters includes Black and Brown people, bisexual and gay people, people from different countries and religions, and people recovering from trauma — all of whom have their own, carefully constructed character arcs that acknowledge their identity, but also give them substance and characteristics far beyond that.
However, this is not to say every story has to be as international — The Poppy War trilogy by R.F. Kuang has a solely East Asian coded cast due to its setting. But even within this, her characters are from different ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds, and each have their own, carefully-constructed character arc extending far beyond their identity on paper.
As you begin writing for Camp NaNoWriMo, ask yourself the following three questions:
Is my cast truly representing the diverse types of people who exist in this world (either real or imagined)?
Are each of these characters individuals beyond simply their ethnicity, sexuality, gender, disability, etc?
Do each of these characters have a fully fleshed out character arc?
You don’t have to be an author from a marginalised or minority background to write characters with diverse experiences. Just make sure to approach each character with empathy and respect, and devote adequate time to research (or to world building, if you’re a fantasy author!)
Good luck, and I know that you are going to absolutely smash your writing goals next month!

Twenty Books Challenge
Hypothetically, you are only able to keep 20 of your books. Only one book per author/series. So what books are you keeping?
I was tagged by @theinquisitxor and @godzilla-reads - thank you for subjecting me to this torture. 😅
They're all favorites and some have lots of sentimental value (additional thoughts included below).
Little Women (I have several copies of this book, but I selected this lovely edition because it's part of the Puffin in Bloom series)
The Wee Free Men (representing Pratchett and gets me both Tiffany Aching and Granny Weatherwax - my favorite Pratchett leads)
The Hero and the Crown (representing Robin McKinley - and it would be impossible for me to pick a favorite McKinley - so I went with this one because it's one of my all-time favorite covers)
Carry On (one of my most-adored copies of one of my most-adored books - it's signed and dedicated with a Wham reference (!) - and is immensely re-readable)
The Naming (I could get lost in the world of Pellinor forever - it had me at talking horses and all of the descriptions of food)
Get a Life, Chloe Brown (representing Talia Hibbert, I could re-read it forever and feel so seen with the disability rep)
Red, White, & Royal Blue (One of the only books I've re-read multiple times and always puts me in the best mood)
In Other Lands (Original and fun, with characters that have stuck with me)
The Left Hand of Darkness (I have prettier copies, but this is the edition I read and annotated in high school)
Three Tragedies: Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear (Got this edition at a Scholastic book fair and used it in high school and college - it's annotated and falling apart, but holds lots of memories)
Lolita (Stunning prose and includes one of my all-time favorite quotes)
Demian (I read this book in high school with one of my best friends, and this is the edition that she gifted me, which includes a lovely note from her)
The English Patient (A wonderful friend got this gorgeous edition signed and dedicated for me)
Jane Eyre (Jane and Rochester live rent free in my soul forever, and I love the cover on this one)
The Time Traveler's Wife (This book was so formative and is why I want to time travel solely so I can attend concerts)
Possession (Worth keeping it for the epilogue alone, but also contains one of my favorite quotes)
Into Thin Air (Started my love affair with non-fiction)
The Wind in the Willows (A gorgeously illustrated edition)
Anne of Green Gables (I was tempted to pick The Blue Castle for my Montgomery representation, but had to stick with AOGG for Matthew Cuthbert, and this edition because it's part of the Puffin + Pantone series)
Black Beauty (I read it just a few year years ago, and it started my adult horse girl phase)
Tagging (no pressure, just fun!): @lizziethereader, @aliteraryprincess, @brightbeautifulthings, @freckles-and-books, @thereadingchallengechallenge, @literarymagpie, @mountainmaven, and anyone else that would like to do it!

They are trans and I will die on this hill
Tumblr media
Desna (left), from The Legend of Korra
Look, that's seriously talk
Do you know what are bivitelin and univitelin twins?
Univiteline twins are the ones whose embryons are from the same origin
Biviteline are the ones whose embryons are unrelated, but happened to envolve and born at the same time
Biviteline twins often look very different, in what univiteline twins are identical
Obvsiously thought, they even have the same genes
Did you know uiviteline twins also are always the same sex
They are made of the same seed after all
See what I mean?
Eska and Desna as obviously univiteline
And they have different genders: Desna's a boy and Eska is female
I assume Desna is the trans one, since their designs, aside from being identical and giving us a vibe of nobelty and inaproachableness expected of the North Pole prince and princess, tend more to a feminine aesthetic
Also, Bolin thought they were both girls firs time they met lol
In a side note, Bryan Konietzo and Michael Dante Dimartino have a history of representing minorities, such as disabled characters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And brown/black people
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As well, as they already have done queer characters (Asami and Korra), despiste the latter's representation abeing way more sutile
So it's natural to guess that the level of sutileness would be the same while approaching another queer character
Logical conclusion: Desna is super trans
Tumblr media
Pyotr, from Carole and Tuesday
This guy
Come on, have you heard his music??????
Like, have you heard his music??
