Think it's past time we started calling the "yuri is fetishizing lesbians for cishet men" argument what it is: misogyny. It's misogynist to say that women can't genuinely create or enjoy lesbian fiction
And it's also teetering on the edge of transmisogynist because that argument is like two hairs' breadths removed from "and therefore any trans women who say they like yuri must actually be men"
(also even if it's true and men like looking at lesbians: so what. Who cares. They're allowed to like it)
Just admit that you're homophobic and think porn is evil or whatever

Just, by the way. Writers and artists should not be guilt-tripping you to do anything. You don't need to feel pressured to comment or reblog on anything. You're not a bad person for not doing so. In the same way they shouldn't be pressured to make content and aren't bad people for not doing so.
I feel like both sides have forgotten that fanworks are completely voluntary. They chose to create something and you can choose how to interact with it. And neither side should feel pressured or guilted to do something if they don't feel up to it for whatever reason.

*taps microphone* if you like art, reblog it! likes do NOTHING at all. with reblogs it shares it to more people, especially if youre a more popular blog than OP! plus, i dont know about other artists but I LOVE when people have a little rant in my tags. oh you like how i Incorporated [?]? thank you! you have no words other than "HDGAJEYURVAIEGIAGDUWHBAJEH"? TYSM!!
also! this goes for ALL forms of art. collages, fanfics, original works of writing, drawings of ocs, a tiny rushed doodle that holds up a sign addressing a world issue, digital art, traditional art, photography, THE LIST COULD GO ON FOR MILES!!
if you like art, reblog it

I'm not saying it's worth artists losing their jobs, but I do think AI art will significantly improve online art spaces. Professional artists dominate online art spaces and I believe that the standards they set and the styles they promote are to the detriment of hobbyists whose work is being drowned out by competently made but soulless YCH and nsfw commissions

People diss abstract painting because it "looks like a kid made it" -- Oh, you mean children? The freest and most innocent people on earth, with creative minds untainted by self-judgment and clichés? The art looks like that? Do you have any idea how hard it is to make art from that place of total joy and freedom as an adult with taxes and trauma and a day job? Give it a try, you'll see how hard it is. Children's art is a fucking gift. A painting looking like a child made it is not an insult. You should be so lucky!

Remember when it was a huge thing that people were yelling online at children tracing art? Yeah I feel like those same people are now the ones passionately defending AI art

Found an AI “artist” that was tagging all their “work” as traditional or digital. Also listing photoshop brushes they were supposedly using. Ig they forgot about timeline and sometime before they had been honest abt using the EPIK ai engine.
The audacity of claiming to have drawn it struck me, so I left a comment:
Tumblr media
They deleted their blog, which…obvi was not the goal in asking. I did ask bc people were in their comments seeking commissions, which is misleading as hell.
Anyway, here’s what I see as an artist:
1.) the obvious
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2.) suspicious instagram-esque tagging, see first image
3.) general inconsistency, noted below
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Art is for everyone. AI is not art, it’s theft of the real work people made put through the meat grinder and slapped together. That’s why so many of us who draw can tell.
I’m not here to argue the point with anyone, but I will happily point out when people are utilizing AI to pretend to be something they very well could be with some effort.
It’s embarrassing. You should be embarrassed.

People get so weird about criticizing media nowadays, and I think that's an issue that stems from growing up with bad faith "critics" making fun of teenagers who like animation memes.

you know. One thing i kinda notice in general, is that cartoonists typically get less interaction than anime-esc artists. Mostly because cartoon styles dont usually appeal to the masses as much for some reason. I see this with twitter, instagram, hell, even animal jam. i wish there wasnt such a divide between styles-- because i can say the same for realism artists vs anime. People usually prefer anime. Cartoon and Realism artists seem to be in the same boat. Dont get me wrong-- i LOVE anime artists. I love their works! Dude, im a fan of vocaloid. hatsune miku for gods sake. The majority of her art is anime-esc, but i feel as if the majority of art in GENERAL- the entire SPECTRUM- should be shown, shared, and represented. And also, push the fact that developing an artstyle thats unique to you should be pushed a bit more. People shouldnt strive to look exactly like someone elses art i feel !!!! add ur own flair man! dont be afraid to develop your art! Dont be afraid to put it out there!
The main problem is this stigma against not immediately being a professional anime artist who'll get a buncha notes and attention.
I guess my main point, is guys, open your mind to other artstyles. Share some love to diversity.

The thing about realism and still life is that a deeply traumatised person going ‘fuck you, i celebrate being alive in all its mundanity, i deserve to see beauty where i want to’ and lovingly painting a flower by the river is a thousand times more impactful to me than listening to a privileged art student trying to explain how their high concept abstract piece is actually about death and stuff

Artist who suffer from colorism are so weird.
Because they will either be doing it on porpuse or subconsciously, and either way they just come up with the weirdest excuses
"it's pastel art!" Okay....why is the skin of the character who's very dark skinned not "greyed out" but in fact obviously lighter in shade, as in edging into a lighter skin tone not the original one altered by a change in color spectrum? Even so, because most anime characters and characters are in fact In media and fanart are in fact white passing...how exactly do you know that's a prorrogative for pastel art when objectively speaking 90% of the art you have seen never had dark skinned characters to begin with?
"it's just doesn't fit my style!"
Lol skill issue git gud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most anime styles I have seen are inherently racially ambiguous, to the point a blonde, round and blue eyed character like Naruto can still be read as 100% Japanese, idk why exactly you are so special in copying said 80% to 90% racially ambiguous art style that you can't just learn to color pick from a reference sheet or expand your color theory to shades of brown and black.
Even when using Naturo as a example, the show, that has kinda of already made a very obvious racial ambiguity implication, still goes out it's way to show characters with phenotypically black features.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And in all seriousness, if the moment you see a dark brown or black skinned character, and your instinct is to find some over complicated excuse to lighten their skin tones and not draw their features in ways you wouldn't ever do to a white(passing) character, then sorry babes you are brainwashed by colorism and in denial or it's so subconscious you may not really even think there's any maliciousness in it(which is a tenant of racism in itself).
