Burnt Toast and Vodka: Blankets and Scrabble

a/n: hi everyone! don’t worry, I’m working on my WIPs/requests, i just love this drabble series and i needed to write something for it! This one is messy but i really loved writing it! I have 3 more drabble’s planned but if you have a request for this drabble series, plz send them in!! word count: 312

Your home had been taken over by blankets.

Sighing, you shut the door behind you and set your keys on the counter as you careful made your way towards the couch, where most of the blankets seemed to be draped, making a fort. You lifted the “entrance” of the fort to find…more blankets. But these were wrapped in ribbons, like what you find at the store. In the two corners of the fort sat Yelena and Bucky, eating cereal and staring at you like you had caught them juggling eggs again. You raised one eyebrow before laughing and crawling into the fort. You waved your hands around in question as you crossed your legs under you. Bucky smiled sheepishly, setting down his cereal bowl to tighten the blanket he had wrapped around him.

“I bought you some blankets, to make up for always stealing yours.” He said, his face mostly covered with violet fluff. Yelena made quotations in the air when he said bought, but you ignored it. Plausible deniability.

“Aw, that’s nice Buck-”

Some movement next to you made you pause and you let out a shriek when Tony’s head appeared next to you, his arm waving in the air.

“Guys, I found the donut- oh hey, Y/N.” He took a bite of the donut slowly, positioning himself next to Yelena, who he handed another donut. There was silence among all of you before Yelena pulled out a board game from behind her.

“Scrabble?”

You smiled, rubbing your hands together as your best friend set up the game.

“I’m gonna win so hard.” You boasted in a sing-song voice. Tony pointed both hands towards him, scoffing humorously.

“Uh, super-genius here, Y/N, good luck.”

Something you had watched in the news that morning clicked in your mind.

“Wait, Tones, don’t you have a conference right now?”

The geniuses eyes widened.

“Oh shi-”

Bucky is an amputee, also he's brother to Natasha and Yelena. Yelena is also chronically ill and Natasha deals with a mental illness I think (sorry haven't read it in a couple months)

No trigger warnings for the Steve fic but the overall series deals with self-hatred, medical system abuse/disbelief/gaslighting of patients, hallucinations, and drug use

Also, they refer to Bucky as James the whole time, which was really weird for me

Welcome to the Problematic MCU Ship Tournament!

This blog will pit 64 different pairings against one another. All of them are in some way “problematic”- some feature a minor and an adult, others feature incestuous pairings, others still simply have questionable or potentially abusive dynamics. Many ships combine elements of more than one.

Each day, 4 polls will be posted pitting two different ships together (for a total of 8 ships per day). You are free to vote in as many or as few of these polls as you’d like.

This blog is explicitly pro-ship and anti-censorship, and obviously features dark themes. If this is a point of discomfort for you, you are free to block this blog, I don’t bite. Hate towards anyone (and anything unreasonably rude about ships or characters) will not be published and users that send it will be blocked. Nothing explicit will be posted to this blog, regardless of the ship, so minors are free to interact if they so wish.

#haven't watched this show since the middle of season 2 but i still love the creative costumes

My Top Posts in 2022:

Part of the MCU's storytelling problems stem from the fact everything takes place in the same universe. Endings are left open to lead into the next project. And because it's gone on for so long we're seeing issues with continuity to the point that there's retconning and character derailment. One of Endgame's issues was that it was an ending that wasn't; the MCU was still going to continue afterwards.

Instead of having Tony make the ultimate sacrifice and giving Steve….that ending, ALL of the Avengers and their allies share the Stones' power together and defeat Thanos. No one has to die. (And while we're at it, find some other way to get the Soul Stone so Natasha doesn't have to sacrifice herself). Tony can retire from being Iron Man and settle down with his family, Steve can still pass the shield on to Sam but stay in the present, all the Avengers live...And that's that. Avengers: Endgame concludes Phase 3.

Phase 4 should have been mostly just tying up loose ends from the previous phases. A few ideas:

Dr. Strange vs. Mordo

Captain Marvel vs. The Kree

Spider-Man's fifth and final contracted MCU appearance be moved from Phase 3 to Phase 4 and would wrap up his arc properly with none of the tug of war between Disney and Sony.

The Black Widow movie can still happen pretty much as we saw it (with just a few minor story adjustments, that movie could have easily taken place after Endgame).

Captain America starring Sam, with Bucky as a sidekick. Maybe even have Natasha and Yelena join them and/or a non-derailed Sharon Carter (who's an ally not the big bad).

Phase 4 can conclude with the multiverse. Maybe have Wanda discover that Vision is alive in one universe, Pietro's alive in another, and she ends up breaking the multiverse trying to bring them together and Strange and some other heroes try to stop her and fix what she’s done.

Now that the multiverse is confirmed, Phase 5 could take place in one of those other universes. That is, Phase 5 would be a rebooted MCU. Here we can introduce the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Eternals, etc. and not worry about continuity issues with the previous phases. Plus it would still allow actors to return for their roles if they wanted to, they'd just be playing different versions of themselves.

There's nothing wrong continuing the MCU itself. The problem is continuing in its current continuity. It needs a reboot. This will prevent established characters from getting derailed and new characters and storylines won’t be held back by what came before.

Spider-Man: No Way Home makes Tony Stark's sacrifice even more tragic. Said sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame is already one of the saddest moments in the entire MCU. However, Spider-Man's latest solo outing (and his entire post-Endgame arc in general) make it even more heartbreaking than before.

I am just going to straight up say it...

Warning, long rant ahead.

The whining about “people” shipping Bucky and Yelena instead of Bucky and Sarah started the minute one, a single soul, literally ONE person posted that they would like to see Bucky and Yelena together (Not even romantically, but as friends).

ONE.

“Too many people shipping it” my ass. It is like everyone was salty already, waiting for the first ever person to ship it in order to complain about it. I know, I was there when the first few posts were tagged with the ship.

I don´t know about other sites, but at least on tumblr? No one who ships Bucky and Yelena has said anything outrageous against Bucky and Sarah, but we still get called racist, acephobic and what-not in the comments for shipping something different just because Yelena is asexual in the comics. As if that matters in the MCU, as if the movieverse even pretended to respect the comics, as if canon sexual orientation had ever mattered when it comes to people´s shipping preferences, as if people were somehow forbidden or banned from having her as their asexual icon or writing her as aromantic and asexual in fanfictions just because a few other fans do, in fact, ship her.

There are more than 200 works on ao3 filtered as Bucky x Sarah.

Bucky and Yelena? They have 17. I swear, by the way some Sarah x Bucky shippers talk about Bucky and Yelena you would think their shippers have become a plague, or that we are everywhere, when in fact: Bucklena is not even a thing in fandom and will never canon, as opposed to Bucky x Sarah, which pretty much is. Bucky x Yelena is a literal crackship, it is not a threat to either Sarah x Bucky shippers or Yelena´s canon sexual orientation in the comics.

“They haven´t even met, how can those stupid people ship them? They obviously just picked the first white woman to come to the MCU!!!” I have read, or: “You shouldn´t ship it because whites have everything!!”

Have what? The shippers you are talking about can´t hand you over anything because the characters are not theirs any more than they are yours. You do, indeed, “have” them already. Enjoy.

Most fans don´t work at Marvel, so it is not their job to ship (Or even avoid shipping) whatever you personally enjoy or makes you feel comfortable. It is not even their job to have diverse ships and/or characters. That should, in theory, be Disney´s job.

Also, stop pretending the only reason a small minority of the fandom ships Bucky x Yelena is because of her race. I am sure that might sadly be the case for some people, but it is clear as day most Bucky x Yelena shippers are just salty they never got Buckynat, which I think is a good enough reason to ship Bucky and Yelena, as good as any other. I read someone say this is “disrespectful” to Nat, or that we are trying to replace her, which is dumb, so freaking dumb. I mean, don´t lie, how many people started shipping Sambucky, or Winter13, or SamxSharon only after Steve left?

Is that “diisrrespectfuulll :´(” to poor baby Steve as well? Or is the whole being “disrespectful” thing just an excuse?

Like, you don´t need to make up excuses or rant about how “problematic” that ridiculously small non-canon pairing you dislike is. "I like x character single", “I don´t like this ship” or "I prefer this other one" are literally the only reasons you need not to ship something.

I never shipped Buckynat though. Some others simply fell in love with Yelena´s character as soon as we finished watching Black Widow and immediately thought of Bucky cause we like him as well or think it would be hilarious to watch them work together considering their different personalities (Some people pair their favorite characters by default regardless of their canon sexualities or lack of screentime together, SHOCKING!!), and it doesn´t take a genius to figure out Bucky and Yelena have similar backstories (Brainwashed into being assasins, abused, lost people who were incredibly important to them in endagme, blah, blah, yada, yada).

Is this “having stuff in common” reason for shipping superficial and basic? Sure, like 99% of crackships. Sue me, guilty as charged.

Not enough for you to ship it or even “get” it? Hey, that is totally valid!

Do I believe the people who say they don´t understand how anyone could ship it unless they are racist or hate asexual people? Hell no! The moment two characters share similar backstories in ANY fandom, a few people are inevitably going to notice, and some are going to start shipping regardless of whether the characters have ever met or are going to meet.

Admit it, it is not “puzzling”, it is not new or strange that people are shipping it. This fandom is not lacking in crackships. Loki and Bucky have been shipped. Steve and Loki have been shipped. Nat and Sharon, who don´t share screentime, have been shipped. Caphill and Falconhill: shipped with little to no screentime. Sam was shipped with Riley after only one mention. Peter and Shuri have been shipped without sharing any screentime, just like Bucky and Yelena, precisely because of stuff they have in common, and as I said, the haters began hating Bucky x Yelena almost the moment the pairing was born: I am pretty sure it is because they saw the similarities between the characters before or at the same time the shippers did and it made them feel threatened, so forgive me if I don´t believe the people who say it is the most random pairing ever.

Don´t get me wrong, Bucky and Sarah are definitely a thing. They were flirting, they had cute moments together, it is super obvious Bucky was trying to impress her, etc. I agree that the people who say they have no chemistry or that Bucky was remembering Steve´s mother or trying to make Sam jealous by flirting with his sister are all full of shit. He became 40s! Bucky whenever he was around Sarah, it is obvious he has a huge crush on her and viceversa.

I respect Bucky and Sarah as the canon ship, or most likely to become canon. I hope Marvel makes Yelena's asexuality explicit as well in the MCU, that they don´t pair her up with anyone, but fandom shipping and fanfiction are quite another thing. This is a hobbie, no one in the fandom owes anyone anything, no one has to ship or avoid shipping anything.

im seeing a lot of people saying that in "phase 4 of marvel" bucky will either die or engage in a romantic relationship with yelena.

i literally have no words other than "kill me before it happens".

like. why. why. hasnt bucky suffered enough?? and yall wanna kill him off??? literally what will u get from it?

plus. there are a LOT of possible couples and characters that can be paired up and end nicely but yall wanna shit on yelena's queerness and make her date someone?? and the only reason for that is simply because she will replace natasha and like that people will get winterwidow.

Apparently, Yelena was a morning person.

You, however were not.

How did you learn this wonderful piece of information? Well, on one fine morning you were startled out of your peaceful slumber by someone yelling your name and jumping on you.

"[Name]! Wake up, wake up." Yelena shook your shoulders as you groaned and hid your head under your pillow.

"Nooo," Yelena grabbed the pillow and threw it on the ground, boping your nose with her finger.

"You said you would take me to see the Statue of Liberty! And I want hot dogs-" Using all your strength, which sadly wasn't much this early in the morning, you pushed the excited assassin off your bed. It took you a few minutes to realize what you did. Hesitantly looking on the floor, you wanted to both laugh and run at the sight in front of you. Yelena looked like a kicked puppy- eyes wide and face scrunched into a pout. Slowly, she stood up, her expression shifting into an amused smirk. You started to laugh, inching towards the other side of your bed, putting your hands up in a surrendering position.

"Heh, Yelena, best friend of mine, let's not do anything rash-" She took a step forward and you were off. You sprang off your bed and rushed to the safety of your bathroom, the short distance seeming like miles. Trying out the fact you learned while watching National Geographic at 3 am, you tried to run in a zig-zag pattern all over your apartment, attempting to confuse the predator. This tactic does not work on Black Widows. In a matter of seconds, Yelena had tackled you to the ground, tickling your sides.

"Yel-Yelena stop! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" You laughed out as the blonde continued her antics.

"I want to go see the Statue of Liberty!"

"Orr we could have a movie day? Without all the crowds of tourists in matching familial t-shirts?" Yelena scoffed humorously.

“You know that song in Little Mermaid where she goes ‘I want to be where the people are?’”

“Yeah?”

“You’re like the opposite of that. You’re anti-Ariel.” It was your turn to look like a kicked puppy, glaring at Yelena until you threw your hands up.

"Fine, we'll go see the Statue!" Yelena smiled before brushing off her jacket and standing up, pulling you with her. As you started to make your way to your closet to change, you caught a glimpse out your window.

"Yelena?"

"Hm?"

"What time is it?" You turned towards the assassin, who paused mid-bite of an apple at your question. She cleared her throat and intensely studied the red fruit.

"Uh, I don't know-" she turned to you, eyes wide as she pointed the apple in your direction, "Have you heard the theory that time is just a construct-"

"Yelena." The blonde hung her head dramatically before murmuring a number.

"YOU WOKE ME UP AT SIX-"

After you had chased Yelena around your apartment, got dressed, made her buy you two large coffees and a bagel, and apologized to your downstairs neighbor for all the noise so early in the morning, the two of you were out to see the giant green lady with a shield.

On your way to the ferry, your phone buzzed a few times. Curious to see who had messaged you, as the only person you texted was currently playing peek-a-boo with a pigeon, you opened your phone.

unknown: hi, [name]. how was your bagel.

You rapidly hit Yelena's shoulder to get her attention, showing her your phone screen. Yelena just laughed before turning back to the bird, who was probably waiting for food.

"Oh, yeah, I gave Nat your number."

If you had food in your mouth you would've choked and died.

"YOU GAVE-" pausing to look around and lower your voice, "You gave the Black Widow my phone number? The very woman I spit freaking vodka all over a few weeks ago?" Yelena chuckled and looked over her shoulder at you.

"[name], she doesn't blame you. Don't worry about it! My sister is very nice. Also, she needed your number to give to the others for game night - which is tonight by the way." You were positive you had gotten whiplash just by listening to Yelena speak. Sighing, you hung your head, pocketing your phone.

"We should get in line now if you want to see the Statue and Ellis Island in a span of a few hou-"

"You don't want to do that." Yelena's cautious voice paused you.

"See..the..Statue?"

"No! Of course we are going to see the Statue, I meant leaving my sister on read." You hurriedly dragged your phone out of your pocket, sending a quick response to the Avenger. Yelena nodded, acting proud before hooking her arm with yours, dragging the two of you towards the ferry.

The hours passed, as you and Yelena walked around the towering woman, the Russian assassin rambling facts about the Statue off of a pamphlet she had snatched.

"Did you know that she is struck by lightning 600 times a year? Oh and that it was a gift from France but it came all disassembled? The Shield took over-"

After you had gone around the Statue twice, made a photographer cry, and visited Ellis Island, You and Yelena were back on the ferry. You leaned on the rails, watching as the sun started to set, the golden rays illuminating the horizon.

"Did you have fun today? I definitely did. Oh, what's your favorite candy?" You turned towards Yelena, who was wearing a foam Statue of Liberty crown and holding a pretzel out towards you. Taking the twisted goodness, you replied.

"Oh I definitely had fun. So much fun that the family in matching t-shirts didn't bother me. And maybe Sour Patch Kids? I don't really eat that much candy." Yelena nodded thoughtfully before sending a message on her phone. The ferry's intercom beeped, signally it's arrival back to the shore.

One thing you didn't expect to see when you walked into your apartment was the Black Widow and Hawkeye sitting on your bed, watching the Office. The sight made you pause in your doorway, causing Yelena, who was behind you, to run straight into your back.

"[Name]?" You shakily pointed at the duo, Hawkeye raising his hand to wave at you without looking away from the screen.

"Hi I'm Clint." You nodded before being pushed. Yelena walked over to her sister and placed a Liberty crown on Natasha's head.

"[name] took me to see the Statue!" As Yelena, Natasha, and Clint discussed the day you and your best friend had, you remained in a state of shock.

"Holy shit, I have Avengers in my home."

"It's crazy right?" A voice behind you made you jump, spinning around to see Kate Bishop, face just barely visible from the giant collection of candy and popcorn bags piled in her hands, "I mean- that's freaking Hawkeye!"

"Kate? Wha- Oh let me help." You took a few pounds of snacks out of the archers hands, placing them on your island. Making eye contact with Yelena, you gestured wildly towards Kate, Nat, and Clint, confusion in your eyes.

"It is game night, [name]! you know, that fun pastime westerners do? I told you before we boarded the ferry and Clint Barton made a group chat so we could all communicate, though I have not been getting notifications-" Yelena gasped and glared at Hawkeye, who looked a bit sheepish. Yelena slapped the back of his head, "You did not make the group chat? Great now my best friend is going into a panic and it's your fault. Pridurok!"

Kate placed a hand on your shoulder, genuine concern in her eyes.

"Hey, if this is too much then we can go." You shook your head, setting your shoulders.

"No, no, it's all good. Besides, playing game with Avengers can't be too nerve racking-GAMES! Crap, Yelena, I don't have any games! They're all in storage somewhere-"

"I got you, don't worry," Another voice sounded from behind you, this time you slowly turned around, your mind going blank as you saw Sam Wilson - Captain America, standing in your doorway, arms full of board games, movies, and bottles of alcohol, "Games, videos, and booze, at your service."

"Hide the vodka!" Nat sounded out, making you turn and glare playfully at her. She stuck her tongue out at you while Yelena and Clint stifled their laughter. Your best friend clapped her hands together, Natasha and Clint turning off the TV to look at her. You and Kate sat next to each other on the bed, her knee brushing against yours. Sam arranged the snacks and drinks on the island before joining the little circle forming on your bed. Yelena was practically shaking from excitement, her arms slung around you and Natasha's shoulders.

"Now Barnes just needs to show up and-"

Sam laughed before raising a hand to paused the excited blonde.

"Buck got here hours ago." Nat and Clint looked at each other before turning towards Sam.

"No, we've been here for a while and-" Like on cue, the toilet from your bathroom flushed and the door opened, revealing the Winter Soldier - wrapped in a fuzzy My Little Pony blanket? The burrito of a feared assassin waved at you before coming to sit by Sam. You just stared, along with everyone else.

"You have a nice blanket collection." Was all he said before taking the box of Monopoly out of Sam's hands and placing it in the middle of the circle. You blinked a few times before laughing to yourself.

"So I guess this is my life now. Don't tell me - Tony Stark is hiding in my fridge."

"No, he's at the Spider-Kids graduation - they'll come next time though." Clint answered, setting up the game. Natasha smiled at you, handing you a game piece.

"Shall we play a game?"

From Russia With Love

Summary: When Steve and Bucky investigate an old HYDRA base left over from World War II, they find something nobody could have ever predicted... A pilot from the legendary 588th night bomber regiment frozen in time.

Author’s Note: Although I will be using real historical people and events, some of the names and actions I will be using are fictional. The 588th night bomber regiment were an all female squadron from Russia in World War II. They were given hand-me-down men’s uniforms and poor, outdated equipment. Their planes were not designed for combat. The planes let out a whistle as it idled through the sky which the German’s thought sounded like a broomstick, giving them the nickname ‘Die Nachthexen’ or Night Witches.

Germany, 1944. Three Polikarpov U-2 biplanes move silently through the night sky, their engines cut at the behest of the navigators. A soldier was making his rounds about the perimeter of the base when an unearthly scream pierced the air. A chill ran down his spine as he looked around. Suddenly, a shadow of a plane darkens the ground. The soldier abruptly realised what was happening.

“Die Nachthexen!” he screamed. The base was rapidly brought to life with activity when the air raid siren wailed. Soldiers rushed to man the anti-aircraft guns as the Night Witches dropped the first bomb. Two of the planes broke formation to draw away the ground fire as the third dropped the next bomb. The last plane made a sharp turn and was able to drop the last bomb on the base. With their mission complete, the engines went back on and the planes headed home to Russia.

Out of nowhere, a German fighter plane appeared. The biplanes were slower but their much smaller size gave them an advantage in the fact they had a tight turning ratio but for one plane, it wasn’t enough. One of the pilots cried out in pain as a bullet grazed her arm. The canvas wings of the plane were ablaze, there was no other option but to bring the plane down. The navigator held the pilot’s shoulders to steady her as they crashed into the ground.

Dazed by the impact, the pilot held her head, feeling something wet and warm drip down her face. She turned behind her to check on her navigator whose head was slumped to her chest. She reached for her hand.

“Yelena... I’m sorry...” Black spots swam in her vision before the darkness took over.

...

Germany, present day. Steve and Bucky were called on a mission to investigate what was possibly a HYDRA base left over from WWII. On their way in, they noticed the remains of a downed plane a few miles out from the base that nature had taken over in the course of sixty years give or take. On the surface, it had the hell bombed out of it. Steve managed to find a charred door in amongst the wreckage and went in, Bucky following behind. Underground was a rabbit warren of rooms and passageways, their secrets lost to time, waiting to be uncovered.

“We should split up,” Steve said, getting out his flashlight. Bucky nodded and got out his own. The duo headed in, checking each and every room for anything that might be of HYDRA origin.

This place gave Bucky the creeps and bad memories began to invade his mind; memories of when he lost his identity of Sergeant James Buchannan Barnes and given the new one of The Winter Soldier. Room after room they looked in until Steve found something.

“Buck, you gotta see this...” Bucky made his way to where Steve called him to and whatever he was expecting, this was not it. The room was still lit with sickening fluorescent lights. In the back corner, there were two pods. One was empty, whatever test subject it held was long gone. The other had a woman still cryogenically frozen inside. Bucky placed his right hand on the glass.

“She’s just like me...”

“Think you can make sense of these?” Steve asked, holding up a dusty file written in German. Bucky picked them up and read through the notes. It stated the woman’s name and why she was there. There was also information on a second woman, presumably whoever was in the second pod. Apparently, they were going to be used for a programme akin to the Winter Soldiers or the Red Room but the project had been scrapped and only one of the subjects was moved.

“I’m going to let Fury know what we’ve found.” Steve headed out to make the call but Bucky stayed behind. He couldn’t leave this woman all alone now that he knew she was there.

...

Feeling a pounding in your head, you opened your eyes. Slowly, you sat up, looking around. You appeared to be back in your base. Funny... you didn’t remember making it back. The last thing you remembered was crashing after completing a mission. Was a rescue sent out and that’s how you got here? You spotted another woman in one of the other beds. Steadily, you got up and went over to her.

“Come on, Yelena. We’ve got another mission,” you said, shaking her shoulder. As she sat up, you immediately noticed that this was not your navigator.

“You’re not Yelena...”

“No, I’m a new recruit. My name is Natalia Romanova,” she replied in Russian.

“Well I hope you’re a quick study, Natalia. Major Bershanskaya will not make things easy for you. Now get ready. Training for you starts now.”

As you got dressed, something struck you as very odd. Your uniform fitted perfectly like it was tailored for you and your boots weren’t oversized. It set off alarm bells in your head but you didn’t want to frighten the new girl. As you headed out, you saw an officer standing and waiting for you.

“Who are you?” you asked, confused as to why this man would be here, especially one who looked so high up in command. Something else that you noticed was that there were planes around the base.

“I’m your new commanding officer...” That did it. There was no way your commander would leave her girls. You managed to snatch his sidearm but even faster, Natalia had you in a headlock, one hand holding the wrist you held the gun.

“Who are you?! Where am I?! What have you done with Yelena?! Where is my navigator?!” The pair exchanged a look and conversed in English, something you didn’t understand.

“I can explain everything... just give me the gun,” the man prompted. Slowly, you handed him the sidearm which he put away and Natalia let go of you.

“You have been asleep for over sixty years...”

“What?! How?! We... we were just there... and... Yelena! Where is she? Is she okay? Is she safe?” The pair exchanged another look.

“You were the only one we found in the base...” You broke down sobbing and straight away the man held you up as you trembled. He rubbed your back and stroked your hair which you found strangely comforting. How could you have been asleep for sixty years? It was only hours ago you were flying to drop bombs on German bases.

...

A few hours later, you were sitting by the window of the room which had been set up for you thinking over all the new information which had been given to you. They had given you new clothes but the only ones who spoke your language were the ones you met at the fake base camp. Your thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

“May I come in?” A male’s voice asked.

“Yes...” The man who you came to learn was named Bucky walked in with a plate of food.

“I thought you might like something to eat...”

“I’m not hungry...”

“I know what you’re going through but you still need to eat...”

“How could you possibly know what I’m going through?! Do you know what it’s like to be with friends one minute and find out they’re all gone?! To wake up in a strange place with strange people?! To have no idea what the hell is going on?!” He was quiet for a few moments.

“Actually... I do.” You were taken aback from his response. Bucky sat down on your bed and began telling you his life’s story.

He told you about his best friend Steve who always used to getting in trouble. He enlisted in the American army the moment he could. His time in the Howling Commandos. About how he fell off the train and became a weapon for HYDRA for decades. As he spoke, his eyes began to ghost over, reliving the old memories that you could see were haunting him. You sat next to him and held his hand. Bucky hastily wiped his eyes.

“What about you? Tell me your story...”

You smiled softly. You told him about your father who died defending Osowiec Fortress and how it inspired you to fight for your country. When the call went out for women to fly bomber planes, you and your best friend Yelena Belsky both applied and got in, you as a pilot and she as a navigator. You flew many sorties together. Your commander Major Yevdokiya Bershanskaya was stern but fair with you girls but taught you everything you knew. You spoke about your last mission, the one you were on when your plane was shot down.

Bucky listened to your every word, looking at you with total admiration. Most of the men looked at you with pity or distain. You couldn’t help but blush a little under his intense gaze.

“I, um... I think I’ll have something to eat now,” you mumbled, taking the plate he brought with him. “Thank you...”

“Anytime... if you ever want to talk, you can always come to me. Nat should be available too...”

“I appreciate that.”

To Bucky, those memories were a lifetime ago but to you, they were only like yesterday. It somehow felt good to share those stories with someone who understood what it was like to go through the same thing you were.

The months flew by and before you knew it, a year had passed. Between Natasha and Bucky you were now fluent in English. They taught you hand to hand combat and other things you would need to join The Avengers, although, you were pretty much an ace pilot when it came to the jets. Natasha became your best friend and you frequently spoke in Russian with her. You formed a bond with Steve too once the language barrier came down, sharing war stories with each other but the person on the team you were closest to was Bucky. He taught you a lot over the months and it wasn’t long before you started dating. It was inevitable.

One night, you were standing on the balcony, looking at the moon and thinking about that fateful night you were assigned to bomb that base all those years ago. You wondered if your friend was dead or alive. The team had told you they would help you find her, searching all HYDRA archives they came across and Bucky helped you to follow every lead. Your heart hoped for the best but you knew to expect the worst.

“Hey, Doll.” You turned to see Bucky standing in the doorway. He walked over to you and put his arm around you, kissing your head. “What’s on your mind?”

“Yelena... I can’t help but hope that I’ll find her one day. She was like my sister. Natasha has been wonderful, you all have but it’s hard being stuck in the past...”

“Tell me about it,” Bucky muttered softly. “You know... it’s been just over a year now since we met...”

“So it has,” you wistfully replied. “Time sure flies...”

“It sure does... and I don’t want to waste any more of it.” You looked confused as Bucky pulled away from you.

“When I was called on that mission to uncover an old HYDRA base, I never thought I would meet the love of my life. You’re one of the bravest, strongest, most incredibly women I know. Will you marry me?” Bucky got down on one knee and presented you with a beautiful ring. You couldn’t help but tear up.

“Yes, Bucky, I will!” Bucky smiled and stood up, sliding the ring on your finger and kissing you.

Who knew that a German base lost to time would connect two military personals so perfectly together?

"No" The archer raised his hand, halting whatever words were about to leave the Captain's mouth, "Not another fucking word, Wilson. Or I'm not responsable for my actions"

"Barton..."

"You! You especially don't get to talk" He pointed his finger at Bucky, taking a step towards him, eyes full of barely contained rage, "You were supposed to take care of her! You're her fucking father, you were supposed to protect her! Instead of that she dies, and fucking comes back! And then, as if all of that wasn't enough, she loses her fucking memory?!! I should have never told Fury. I should have never let her come here!"

"You're right!" Bucky yelled back, startling everyone in the room with his admittance, "I agree with everything you say! I fail her! I failed her, and I failed Natalia and I couldn't give two shits about you, but I failed you too!"

The winter soldier seemed to deflate before their eyes, all the fight gone from him as he let himself fall on a chair,

"She's my daughter, Barton" There was a catch on Bucky's voice when he spoke again, "and she is probably better off without me... But I need her. I need to know she is ok, I just- I need your help"

Clint sigh. He wasn't about to apologise, but he understood. Hell, if Lila were the one missing, he knew he would want the soldier by his side.

"Look" He offered, coming closer to the table and picking up one of the blurry pictures there, "If, and that's a big if, she really went to Nat's family for help, this is your best shot: Yelena Belova. She was the one Nat trusted the most"

Sam hurried to find the right paper amongst the mess of files they had on the table.

"Our contact on the CIA said she was last seen in Barcelona, a couple days ago..." He finally found it, "Here! In the company of three unidentified elements, two males and a female"

"Is your contact trustworthy?"

"Sharon? She is a Carter. She's as honorable as they get"

Clint made a noncommittal sound.

"No details about her company?"

"Unidentified the three of them"

Bucky took the report from Sam's hand, reading it.

"The other female is suspected to be Ava Orlova, and the recount of a witness states one of them was refered to as Likho..."

Clint shook his head,

"They're wrong. Ava Orlova is dead. She died in Istanbul, years ago."

"Istanbul? You mean the Somorodov case? That was Alexei, Natasha's little brother" Sam still remembered the somber day, the ceremony when they put his name on S.H.I.E.L.D's Wall of Valor.

"Alexei Romanov is still alive, I saw him with my own eyes" Clint insisted, "The only one to die that night was the girl, Ava."

"So... Nat lied?"

"To help her brother pass under the radar?" Bucky shrugged, "That sounds very much like her"

"And he took an Alias" Sam nodded, it was all starting to make sense, "Liho, like her sisters cat"

Both Barton and Barnes raised their heads to that.

"A cat?"

"Yeah, she was always talking about that thing" He smiled at the memory, "Always going on about how we needed to wrap up the mission quickly, so she could go home and feed it"

Clint and Bucky exchanged a look.

"What?" Sam was really starting to feel like he was missing something.

"Wilson... Natalia was allergic to cats"

The captain rolled his eyes. Of course she was.

"Wait, does this mean?"

"That's her"

"And the other two must be Alexei and Peter" Confirmed Clint, "We found them"
