I am simultaneously deliriously in love with the ending of Loki season 2 and absolutely loathe it

On one hand…Shakespearean tragedy at its finest, essentially circling back to Loki’s original Thor 2011 character arc by reversing it, and Loki has literally ascended to godhood. In the end, Loki’s ultimate selfless sacrifice was to sit upon the highest throne in the multiverse, and that to me is tragically ironically beautiful

On the other hand…Loki being alone makes me want to burn Marvel studios to the ground and do other unspeakable things

personally, I think people are allowed to ship a “toxic ship” as long as it’s fictional and they can separate fiction from reality. shipping a fictional “problematic ship” doesn’t mean you’re “abuse apologist” in real life. the same way people who enjoy fictional villains are not “murderers” in real life.

it’s okay if you think this ship makes you uncomfortable and so you personally dislike it. what you can and should do is avoid their contents and refrain from interacting with people who do ship them. that mute and block buttons are your friends.

what you shouldn’t do, though, is harass people who ship them and brag about how they’re “red flags irl” and how you’re “morally superior” simply because of fictional characters.

I promise you, minding your own business and not caring about what ship strangers on the internet ship will make your fandom so much less toxic and a whole lot more enjoyable.

after pondering i have realized that sylki was originally intended to be a love story (will dig up the quotes to support that momentarily) but in the shift of creatives between s1 and s2, the overall vision was lost and the result was an mcu typical tone shift between projects. the creatives are so disconnected between one project to the next and pretend to have an overarching plot being woven together between about 800 superheroes and villains before the next big avengers film, and obviously this is an impossible task, especially in an environment where corporations are calling the artistic shots. the real victims here are those who fell for a compelling dynamic in the marvel cinematic universe despite knowing that it inevitably meant it would collapse under itself.

The ending scene was them pining for each other.

Mobius' echo of "let time pass" reaching Loki and making him tear up confirming he was watching over Mobius.

Mobius leaving the TVA because Loki isn't there anymore.

Mobius being completely miserable whereas Sylvie is seen happy and care free and time hopping with only a "it's weird that Loki's not here, isn't it?"

Loki going to seek Mobius first for comfort when faced with the moral dilemma of choosing who lives and dies.

Loki staring at his hand wistfully, with tears in his eyes while he watches Mobius slip away.

Mobius being the first to notice something was wrong when Loki started walking towards the loom.

The fact that Mobius was present when Loki said "I know what kind of god i need to be... for you" means the director(s) and writer(s) are seeing him as a possible romance arc in the future for Loki that's why they put him there with Sylvie to claim plausible deniability.

The season one kiss being retconed.

Loki not killing Sylvie (which he contemplated at first) means he wants to give her the chance to go write her own story like she's always wanted without running. And we can see her being happy (without Loki) at the end because she's finally free.

At the end, Sylvie is comforting Mobius because he's hurting more and evidently more miserable.
