An Ace Week reminder that:

•celibacy is a choice anyone can make

•asexuality is a sexual orientation

•asexuality is not celibacy

•celibate aces are still ace

•non celibate aces are also still ace

•you are not entitled to information on our sex lives

there is no such thing as "actually ace" or "ace enough". you are ace enough if you experience sexual attraction in a different way than "normal".

Happy Asexual Awareness Week!

We’re here and platonically queer folks. It took me a long time to realize I was aroace because for most of my life, I simply believed I was getting top marks in celibacy (I’d make an AMAZING nun). I’ve always been extremely romantic and never made the connection that I loved watching happy couples in fiction without actually wanting that kind of relationship for myself. Anytime I’ve “crushed” on someone has been me hyperinflating admiration, common interests, or aesthetic appeal, so it took me a while to realize I’ve never actually experienced real attraction. It’s common for people on the demi-gray spectrum to be infantilized— told that they need to “wait for the right one” or that they need to be more realistic about their expectations. However I, like many others on the ace spectrum, am a mature adult who’s fully capable of forming healthy respectful relationships. I have been blessed with many people in my life who I love and who love me and I am confident that I can continue to find meaningful communities for the rest of my life. Platonic relationships are not any lesser than romantic ones and a romantic/ sexual relationship is NOT the pinnacle of human connection. Relationships are wonderful because humans in love are wonderful— and asexuals/ aromantics are also full of love! reminder that asexual people can still want to have sex or have sex! being asexual does not mean that you are also celibate and low sex drive or celibacy does not necessarily translate to being asexual

I know I haven't posted in a while but today marks the start of ace week 2022 (depending on timezones, so maybe not yet for you) and I am unfortunately not able to come out to my family. Despite that, I would love to come out to you

to all the other people on the ace spec out there, go forth and celebrate. even if you can't tell everyone or anyone just yet, go treat yourself, you deserve it. you are one hundred percent valid and loved no matter what your micro label is, if you don't have one, if you're also on the aro spec, if you're still figuring things out, if you don't have a label but know these kinds of things apply to you and anybody else in any circumstance. happy ace week <3
