What’s on my Radar
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feeling optimistic about 2023!
Been in a funk lately to push out productivity so I decided to take a fresh look at what I have going on what I need to keep on my radar. Going back to updating this monthly to reassess and see where I need to shift focus.
Health
Consume less Social Media
I have to be more conscious of the content I’m consuming
I can only take the other sites in small doses
Maintain Daily yoga sessions
Morning sessions
Start including bedtime sessions
Personal Finance
Finding ways to make my money work for me
Working on a stricter budget (Spending way too much in certain categories)
Travel Plans
Upcoming Trips
👩🏾‍🎓-✈️ Flight booked now just to pass this class
Touring the Grand Canyon
Family Vacation - Summer
Still looking for deals on tickets
Apparently it’s my project to find stuff for us to
Certifications/Career
Finance mentorship
Still waiting for applications
It’s 12 months long but you meet once a month (its gives Big Brother/Big Sister vibes and I actually like that)
Apply to Emerging Leaders Mentorship Program
This program is only 6 weeks and it’s jammed packed with interesting session for leadership skills and goal setting (Finance mentorship is less structured)
Role focus
For each job I like to have a goal of what I want to work on and for my current position is my business communication skills
Build effective organization skills
Build a solid foundation of understanding
I like the niche I’m in and I can make a career out of it (planning on staying for 3 and then assess if I want to continue)
Get as much hands on experience as possible
Prepare for new exam
Pricing materials
Plan to sit by October (if available)
Maintain Kanban for work
Maintain a habit of updating tasks when new sub tasks arise
Using it to keep my head on straight with side projects
Good things so far
Learning how to travel easier
Decided on photography as a hobby (great way to get me out the house)
Going to moms house every Thursday
Holy crap I finally made it to the last course for my masters!! (I had so many bumps and stops that I feels so good to be at the end!)
Journaling constantly but looking for new methods! (Suggestions always welcomed)
Proud of my progress and the person I’m becoming!!

In just a year, so much can change, and I've experienced this firsthand in my own life. Merely a year ago, my world bore little resemblance to what it is today. Back then, I had different aspirations, priorities, and perhaps even a different perspective on life itself. Change crept into my life, sometimes subtly, sometimes with a thunderous impact. Relationships deepened, others faded away, and new connections were forged. Professionally, I took on new challenges and honed skills I didn't know I possessed. On a personal level, I grew, learned, and evolved, gaining fresh insights into myself and the world around me. This constant state of flux serves as a potent reminder of the transformative power of time, encouraging us to embrace the unpredictable journey that is life.

Today was a bit rough, got my Mental Health First Aid certification but the topics of bipolar, suicide, non-threatening self harm, and panic disorder were only SLIGHTLY triggering.
So! Came home, changed, and took a weed gummy cause I can't smoke well due to this facacta cough. My brain is feeling less....heavy. Self care its best.

Okay, Jumblr: educational resource question!
If a Catholic therapist with no familiarity with Judaism was working with their first-ever traditionally Jewish client, and requested source recommendation(s) for learning more about Judaism (so as to better understand and work with the client), what would you recommend?
There are some great general resources (e.g. My Jewish Learning) that I’d suggest to someone looking for information on something specific. But “learning about Judaism” is such a broad and encompassing thing... where to start? Any favorite articles or other resources that give a good overview for someone without prior knowledge? What might be most important to know, whether in general or for a therapist in particular?

Technical papers are such a crap shoot. So many of them are written by people who clearly hate writing and believe that information should be inaccessible to people who maybe don't have the familiarity or formal training they do.
But I hope the full text of that study on tin whiskers isn't paywalled.

Hi, I’m trying to change industries to my dream industry. I’m on my 30s but I couldn’t do it before because of personal reasons and taking care of family members and mental health.
My friends, some of them, think I’m wasting my time and they don’t support me and my mum is trying to let me know in a not subtle way that she’s expecting me to grow up of this idea. But I really want to go for it!
However, because all of this, I’m getting anxious that maybe it’s late, that I should have done it before, that because I don’t have experience in this industry I won’t get hired and because it’s a new industry and my city is small (not small us but small village in a country in Europe) I can’t do networking but in LinkedIn and it’s hard because I don’t know someone. And im starting to second guess myself and thinking I’m eating my time but I really hate the industry I’m working now, so I feel really stuck and I can’t move forward with the industry change because all of this. Do you have any advice? Do you think it’s late? Thank you so much <3
Hi love! I believe there are two important points to be made here.
The best time to start is years ago. The second best time to start is now. Time will continue to pass for several more decades, so consider whether you want to "what if" yourself about pursuing your dreams 20 years from now. In my opinion, it's better to go after what you want and fail fast. Living with regrets, at least for me, feels worse than pursuing something I wanted and it not unfolding as my expectations lead me to believe.
While going after what you want is important, especially with your career, you need to be practical and a little more methodical (even a bit conservative) in your approach to ensure you don't run into financial trouble. No dream is worth struggling with life-hindering debt – at least in my opinion.
With these two considerations in mind, I would consider beginning to pursue this career path as a hobby in the meantime while maintaining whatever stable employment you have at the moment. Prioritize your time engaging in this "hobby" like it's a mandatory appointment with yourself.
Consume articles, books, and podcasts. Take courses/build skills in your dream industry/role. Create a portfolio of your own spec work to demonstrate your commitment and talent within this field. Use LinkedIn/virtual conferences to network strategically. Follow people in your dream industry and key leaders. Comment/engage with their material. Send them personalized messages with praise/feedback on posts or insights they shared.
Message people attending the same conferences to connect. Set up informational interviews/coffee chats if possible (offer to pay for a virtual coffee, etc.). If there are any gig/job opportunities, share this spec work to demonstrate your skills and frame your background as a series of transferable skills.
Also, never underestimate the power of your second-degree network on LinkedIn, but mainly IRL. Let your trusted, supportive friends and acquaintances know you're interested in the field. You never know who knows someone.
Hope this helps! Best of luck xx

January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and one of our semi-local organizations is providing a free public webinar about what it is, what it isn't, separating fact from myth, and info about resources and options.
I received my sexual assault counseling training from this organization and have provided domestic violence training for their own advocates in return, so I have experience with this org and feel good recommending it. :D

been reading Marketing for Scientists at the request of my research professor and its actually been interesting. i know its an age-old joke, but scientists and engineers really struggle to sell what they do and make people care about their work, and i think this comes down to their struggle to break down their high level work to something meaningful and actionable for people not in that field.
i've seen sooooo many of my peers struggle with this and someetimes, i do too. so i'm glad my "boss" loaned me this book.
