Somebody tell me if this is a bad take, or if my love for Bruce is causing my objective brain to glitch, but-- something about advertising Batman, a hero who's very popular for being good with children, for being NURTURING with children, a bad father kinda defeats the whole purpose of what he's supposed to represent.
Batman is a protector; He protects people the world (and especially law enforcement) does not care about. That's literally the point of him.
Something about marketing " you can be incredibly violent to people you care about! And Its fine, because you care about them even if you abuse them, and that's what matters!" towards people, but especially men and young boys, is REALLY fucked up to me.

I hate the way Black characters are treated in comics, but it's leagues better than whatever the fuck yall got going in in fanon. Duke Thomas isn't even a character to yall, he's an accessory to your fave batboy at best and background set dressing so people don't accuse you of being antiblack at worst. "Oh, he's such a new character-" His first appearance was in 2013. Be fucking for real. And again, it's not like yall could use that as an excuse anyway cause half of yall don't read comics in the first place so...what's really the issue here? Right.

my favorite thing about about the 90's young justice solos is that they catered towards three distinct audiences, and yet after all these years, the one that would have been LEAST likely to be projected into nowadays is now the MOST woobified out of the three.
tim: a story for white kids, by a white guy who hates poor people, and didn't really take itself OUT of that white-male-projective-state even after all these years. bonus note, now the gays can project into tim cuz timbo's finally out the closet, and chuck dixon wants to kill himself over it, but it's ok bc we like tim even tho we don't like chuck.
bart: a story initially about a time-displaced refugee whose narrative heavily mirrored a refugee's forced assimilation into a new culture WHILE also appealing to the adhd/autism crowd, which the writer was absolutely OK with because bart's story can be accepted by BOTH the refugee narrative enjoyers and the adhd/autism crowds without impinging on his narrative poignancy, plus mark waid actually loved bart and he loves that WE love bart. inshallah he will write his boy again.
kon: a story about teenagers who are being neglected, and so he's acting out every which way and partying it up because he was meant to appeal to the 90's teenage rage and show how easy it is for kids to get caught up with predators like knockout and tana because of the lack of structure and discipline in their lives, but when geoff decided to ignore nearly ten years of creator-run canon, we had to deal with his timkonnie dreams, and now geoff's leaving, so now we gotta deal with the yja nonsense and some lady's self-insert dreams going into a character whose writer is not only still alive, but actively on the bi!kon train but from the 90's crackhead era perspective. and HE'S the one most woobified.
it's absolutely facinating cuz you'd think kon would be the most hated out of the three bc of his issues with consent and the unhealthy ways he frames relationships, but instead it's BART who people hate the most! bart's being infantalized and discounted and used at a third-man-ship-prop, while tim's being rewarded for being an emotionally strugglesome white man who just came out of the closet, and it's not nearly as bad as how bart's getting his ass beat in the fandumb, but poor tim can't even date his high school homie in peace without someone crying about how he 'deserved' kon instead.
to think that the character with that many issues would be the MOST woobified character in the yj cast is insane, bc what are you even woobifying? his depersonalization? his lack of boundaries with women? his inability to read a room? the fact that nobody loves nor cares about him enough to protect him from the horrors of the world? the fact that he was a stellar example of a CSA survivor who didn't even KNOW he was a victim of CSA, and thus wasn't really able to understand the ramifications of his inappropriate behavior until years later when he forced himself into a masculine fold so he didn't fall into the trap of being like 'the old him' again?
kon's story was a story of self-hatred come to life in the most fantastical ways. he thinks it's ok to publicly date a grown woman other people are judging for dating a dumbass minor. he didn't know what a mother's love was, and had to witness it first hand with nanaue's mother. he thinks an emotionally unavailable and distant clone handler is his dad bc he doesn't KNOW anyone else who can fit into that mold. he thinks roxy's his sister but still has no problem sexualizing her in his head bc he thinks it's ok to find your older sister hot.
kon was the DEFINITION of the kids are not alright, nope, not at all, hell to the fuck no. geoff was the single biggest driver in stripping all the nuance from his character post-graduation day, but he not even here no more... what's the excuse in continuing to strip away at what makes kon, kon? i know dc's afraid to admit lois and clark looked the other way when a teenaged clone was dating an adult woman, but you woulda thought he woulda been a turnoff to the fandumb as well. he aint tho, so he suffers for it accordingly.
i can only hope karl kesel lands another contract after these new movies flop, so we can finally get a REAL follow-up to the 1994 solo. you could never make me hate that man's insane writing. justice for 1994 kon. if dc still had good writers, we coulda had a multi-year healing arc exposing how horrifying superheroing really is for people, and why clones deserve something to the equivalent of human rights. instead, he's doin fuckall and kissin m'gann. no shade to m'gann, she absolutely deserves more than the current caricature.

You know, Marvel had less of the teen sidekick trope than DC. I think. Bucky Barnes, the original Human Torch's sidekick Toro and Rick Jones. I think that's it for teen sidekicks. I mean, we had some teen heroes (spiderman and the o5 X-Men). But only three teen sidekicks.
But then we look at DC and we have enough teen sidekicks for me to think we need to call child protective services on all these child soldiers. Just going by wikipedia, we've got Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Speedy, Snapper Carr, Green Lantern's rascist Inuit/"Eskimo" friend Pieface, etc. Seriously. Do I have to call social services to report 15 child soldiers in the greater united states!? This is bordering on the surreal. At least Marvel didn't do the child soldier thing nearly as often! Maybe Stan Lee just understood it was a bit weird. I don't know. But I'm glad Marvel had less child sidekicks.

I'll have a good day and then boom, I remember that DC writers force Bruce to protect the bitch ass clown that murdered his child under the guise of a bullshit moral code, and not because he's profitable to their audience of edgy incels

My honest reaction whenever i remember the whole reason Robin Jason Todd keeps getting characterized as always having been a violent edgelord is that a bunch of grown ass people in the 80s couldn't handle a poor kid being relevant in a superhero comics series

I try not to engage with fandom stuff because yall have proven time and time again yall have zero interest in bettering these spaces and don't mind regurgitating awful racist shit in your fan content no matter how many times you are hand-held and gently walked through detailed explanations why the shit is racist but watching people stand up fully and say "I hate comics I don't read them. I only read and write fan fics about these characters based on other people's fan interpretations of these characters." With your whole chest every two months has been so crazy. I will never understand this instance that the collective fanon is sooooo much better than the source material when being influenced by fanon actively made the canon material WORSE.

I know solicits lie, but DC hyping up the a "Most brutal confrontation between Batman and Joker" is kind of dumb because like....
Batman/Bruce has proven he is able now to kill Joker already!
Tyion Did It! With Harley's help Bruce was able to leave the Joker to die.
Tumblr media
....
I feel the Zdarsky conflict is more about the Zur-En-Arrh stuff, but Joker feels like the wrong villain to spark it?
.....
I miss Tynion.

It’s still wild to me that Tom King was allowed to make a whole series about superheroes going to therapy by himself despite knowing jack-shit about it, as said series betrayed.
Like I know DC higher ups are historically extremely inconsiderate but it really did not occur to ANYONE to hire psych ppl to co-write/consult for this particular series.

DC teasing an event with "nothing will ever be the same" but its just "no man steps in the same river twice" way. Time goes on, etc etc. The river is the event and its technically different but still looks like a fucking river. Idk is this anything?

Been thinking about a Wonder Woman animated series with a side focus on Cassie, and I keep being reminded that all her post-Young Justice costumes suck.
Granted, a lot about her character was so poorly handled that she's practically a different person, so I think I'm just jaded.

hi! I’m new to the batman/batfam fandom and new to reading superhero comics and I was wondering why Tom King sucks? I’ve seen posts for quite a few people expressing dislike for the guy and was just wondering if there is a TL;DR on why he sucks? I have read a bit of his stuff and liked it. So just curious if he is someone to avoid going forward
So here's the thing, I'm not well established In the comic book settlement to give a non-petty answer. But I'm going to explain why I, personally, find him completely insufferable.
Tom King is guilty of the same offense a lot of men working within comic book media are. Sexism, misogyny, racism, homophobia, the works. This isn't exactly breaking news, but it's enough.
But what I TRULY fucking find so unfortunate and so enraging and what fills me with absolute wrath is that he's the perfect embodiment for male mediocrity.
Male writers can jerk off the most bland, uninspired, unimaginative piece of shit writing, and demographics of even more mediocre men eat It up. I've never once looked at an issue Tom King wrote and found something I could objectively like.
I don't think people realize how rare that is. Even in media that's majorly characterized as bad, you can find at least one aspect you like.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is boring, but you have Joey. Rick and Morty is edgy, but it's funny. Avengers Endgame was a fucking mess, but it had Tony.
Tom King has NOTHING. And I really need people to understand that.
Meanwhile, female writers in DC are constantly overlooked, criticized, unfairly judged for even the SLIGHTEST mistake. I NEED others to understand how absolutely ridiculous it is that Batman hasn't been written by a woman yet.
I dislike Tom King severely because he gets praised for being nothing. He's the Kim K of the DC world to me. But female writers have to be EXCELLENT in order to be considered GOOD. It fucking sucks.
