Gyuutaro x reader, not proofread, band au, angst, reader is depressive
Tumblr media
“Did you get that piercing for whoever you took the photo for?” Your thumbs shake over the dimmed glass screen of your phone as you lay on your bed in the dark, debating on hitting send. Blackout curtains drawn to deepen the pitch black even though you know there’s still a few more hours of sunlight left.
You can’t even scroll Twitter in peace anymore without seeing him despite how you’d filtered his name from any content the algorithm was set to recommend to you. You’d thought of blocking out their band name but you still held love for his band mates, still liked to see their successes on something you watched them work so hard for. You didn’t think you’d be blasted with a reposted nude of your ex boyfriend under the hashtag of his bands name as well as the atrocious #demoninthesheets.
Vision blurring temporarily as the sting of fresh tears well in your waterline before you swipe aggressively to keep them from falling.
How many times will you cry over the same thing? Torture yourself by reopening that year old wound instead of properly healing and moving on? Throwing yourself into work hasn’t been enough
You don’t want to talk to him, to Gyuutaro, again; at least that’s what you tell yourself even though you hover over the mocking illuminated blue send button. Thumb tremoring before long and it seals your fate for you but some sort of fated mistake, calling that to absolve yourself of more guilt even though it already sits heavy on your chest. You’d known hitting send wouldn’t lessen the weight by any means but you’ve grown used to the pain.
Accustomed to it, you’d think you’d miss it if it were gone. It’s been the only constant for you anyway since your relationship fell apart with the lead singer and longtime boyfriend. But he was more than that, more than just a talent to the music industry. He was everything.
The boy you’d found in the alleyway outside of your apartment at such a tender age along with his much younger sister, starving, dirty and cold. Welcoming them into your life with ease, growing with them. An older sister to Ume by proxy before stepping into the roll of her mother as you’d grown into your teen years. You and Gyuutaro emancipating yourselves and moving into a too large home for one other orphaned man, building a family with bonds stronger than blood while you two grew closer. Making promises for the future while sharing all the pivotal firsts in your life with him.
First crush, first love, first boyfriend, first time; so in some cruelly comical fashion it’s fitting that he’d become your first heartbreak too.
Torn to shreds as other women began to give him the attention that only you had poured so lovingly into him for most of his life. Lusting for the physical attributes about himself that Gyuutaro had always hated, brazen comments at first regardless of the copious amount of photos with you in them all of his socials held. Insulting advancements made on him with flagrant disregard for the obsidian band he refused to take off despite still only being engaged.
You swipe at your bleary eyes again, shaking your head with an aggressive growl at yourself to stop it, it doesn’t matter anymore but the lie just reverberates within the echo chamber of tormenting thoughts. Mockingly chiming alongside every admission to immense affection Gyuutaro had filled your empty head with.
I love you, te amo, aishiteru. A lie in every language.
Laughing wryly to yourself over the thought as you watch the delivered notification shift into its read time stamp before foreboding bubbles bounce for a moment. A response coming through soon after.
“Whaddya want me to say?”
Good question, it’s not like you even really meant to send it. Staring at his name in your phone with the useless little stop sign emoji next to it as if that would halt every impulsive desire to speak to him whether it was good or bad. Forgoing deleting his contact because you know it by heart, you’d instinctively repeat it and worsen the need to send a text from the fear of forgetting it.
“Nothin I guess lol” that it was for you maybe? That’d be pretty fucking stupid though.
The bubbles bounce and bounce and bounce on for what feels like ages. You’re worried he’ll send a block of text, worried he’ll be another aggressive voice you’ll hear to repeat every insecurity you’ve had but they disappear completely after a long moment. Heart in your throat and as soon as you sigh and place your phone face down onto your deflating air mattress it vibrates with a new notification.
“Can I call? It’s gettin taken down”
You want to, you do, you want to hear the voice that’s always comforted you and put you at ease but right now your company is that weighted pain in your chest. That ache that spreads slowly into each limb and it’ll feel numb before long, no need to exacerbate the throb any further when you’re already past the initial sting.
“Probably not a good idea,” I don’t wanna hear whatever girl is with you now stays left unsent. Backspaced quickly, typing it out was cathartic enough. He’d really call you then, again and again until you answered, “maybe later. I’m gonna take a nap.”
You sleep so much now, he knows later never comes but it wasn’t the first time he asked it won’t be the last but you assume maybe it will.
“Call me when you wake up? I wanna talk.”
Sending him a curt sure before silencing the device before tossing it to the floor and turning to face the wall, curling within yourself. Hoping you won’t dream of what once was and what could’ve been.

So, I heard someone call Nimona a "cringe, not like the other girls uwu movie."
All I gotta say is....
There's no way you actually watched it.
Because that movie had a lot of silly, goofy moments, but it was also very relatable and heart-wrenching to LGBTQ+ folks like myself.
It's one of those times when I'm angry it's trendy because now, the meanest tiktok girls and transphobes are going to find it and tear apart anyone who saw the allegory. (See: Barbie, Wednesday, every other trending piece of media that had a message beyond its social media presentation in the past year) Yet, at the same time, I want it to become even more popular so as many people as possible see the obvious symbolism and how moving this movie was.
(So, trigger warning for a suicide mention I guess? And spoilers, too?Like, it's heavily implied that's what Nimona was doing in her panic)
The part at the end of the movie? Where Nimona had their breakdown and charged at the city as a monster, intending to end her own life on the statue's sword, because she was in so much pain? And the only thing that made them stop was Ballister telling her she was seen and loved?
I sobbed.
Because I never had that person. I've been in this battle, against society, against my body, all alone.
And seeing that moment? That made me feel like I was so much stronger for making it out alive. Because I've always been the only one seeing myself as I really am.
And yeah, I get it, it's trendy, it's funny, it's not that deep. But it was to me. And I don't mean to be a gatekeeping weirdo, but as a trans, fem-presenting, traumatized, punk teen who feels less than human, this movie was basically made for me, because that's the protagonist's whole thing.
Like... if we're going to boil Nimona down into some "uwu I'm quirkier than you" character, I guess we have to turn the others into bland caricatures, too. Which we already did. Ballister already got the pathetic blorbo treatment, which I'm fine with, because turning any character into the pathetic blorbo of the week is always funny, but now people who only know the movie and comic from 30 second edits will think that's all there is to him, and ignore the part where he kept a trans character from taking her own life.
I know, I'm overreacting, and this is the most invested I've gotten in a piece of media since the Dark Ages of my life where I liked Gravity Falls and disliked its fandom stereotype.
This whole post was probably a bad idea, I know I'm not supposed to get invested in things I didn't create, but it was just on my mind.

YOU KNOW DC?! WOW, I'M A FAN WHAT FAVORITE HEROES AND VILLAINS DO YOU HAVE MINE IS HALEY QUINN.
So sorry, my main area of expertise is Teen Titans characters and Batman Villains.
Tumblr media
#5 Roy Harper
Roy is just the most wholesome sunshine boy. He's positive addict representation. (It turns out anyone can become an addict even superheroes, it doesn't make you a bad or morally deficient person). He is a loving single father. He is a team leader and friend. He's got it going on.
Roy projects this bad boy image but don't believe it, he just has low self-esteem, if anything he is one of the more wholesome superheroes. Roy tends to be really caustic and likes to pick fights with people, but don't buy it he's literally the bad boy who feeds kittens when no one is looking. Ollie is like a more idealistic batman, and Roy Harper is like a more idealistic Dick Grayson.
Roy is confrontational. but he has the best of intentions he only picks fights with people if there's a problem that needs solving. Also, the person he fights the most is Dick Grayson, and he needs someone to give him a kick in the pants every once in awhile.
Tumblr media
#4 Donna Troy
Donna is actually one of the most nuanced comic book characters of all time, and it has nothing to do with her backstory so don't even bring that up. "She's just kind of plain and boring..." that's it you've got it, you've nailed the essence of Donna.
Donna's the one sort of normal person around a bunch of extreme personalities, so all of her friends use her as a free friend therapist, while completely ignoring Donna's own issues. Donna is the single mom of several traumatized teenagers except she's the same age as them.
Donna has this image among her friends as the perfect overachiever, but she's actually just as much of a mess as everyone else. One time Dick leaves Donna in charge of the titans and the team totally falls apart because Donna CANNOT lead. She tries to make Jason the leader of the team and he was like twelve at the time. Her entire personal life is a wreck, look up what happens to Donna Troy it's one of the saddest things in comic books. She's actually one of the most tragic characters, which makes her enduring desire to help her friends and take care of people a really strong character trait because it's continually tested by the tragedy in her life.
Tumblr media
#3 Eddie Bloomberg
Every Teen Titans run gives me a new favorite character and Eddie was that for the Geoff Johns run. Seeing as my favorite hero of all time is Spiderman, there is nothing better than a normal, powerless teenager, trying to become a superhero because they want to help others.
Eddie's life is just very melancholy and lonely, he becomes so desperate to be a teen titans he literally seels his soul for the chance of being a hero. He almost cut his life even shorter, because being a hero for a few years seemed better to him than living as a normal person for a much longer life. Eddie works as a character because despite his abysmally low self esteem he tries to help people, and what makes him a hero is not his powers but who he himself is. Even after losing his powers the Titans need him around because he is the heart of the team.
Tumblr media
#2 Rose Wilson
Terra is my favorite DC character of all time, and Rose is basically Terra if Terra actually lived. Rose and Eddie made the Geoff Johns run enjoyable for me, there's something deeply compelling about Rose's search for a family and also her desire to define herself as her own person.
If you are connected to Slade Wilson in any way he will just destroy your own life, so it is powerful to watch Joey and Rose connect as siblings outside of Slade, and also Rose keep trying to be a hero on the Teen Titans when no one on the team trusts her. Even when she leaves it's not because she was a bad person, it's because the whole team rejected her and even on her own Rose was still trying to figure out what the right thing to do was and how to live her life.
Tumblr media
#1 Harley Quinn
Harley's just one of the most characters ever. Characters are their flaws and Harley has a whole lot of them, she's hurt a lot of people, she enabled a man to hurt so many more, she crossed a line as a psychiatrist, she's selfish enough that she'll terrorize gotham in the pursuit of love.
YET! She remains such a sympathetic character at her core. Not only because of the way the joker treats her, but because no matter much Harley tries to change herself in pursuit of being loved by someone else, Harleen was a doctor. Hurting people is against her nature. THe more people she hurts, the more she is hurt. She's like a living example of the cycle of abuse, she is a victim and she victimizes others, and yet there's always still that chance of recovery for her.
Harley's also just so unique. Her world view is so distorted. Her priorities are all messed up. She doesn't really have a system of morality so much as "If I do this, I will be loved...." and because of that she ends up doing some really bad things. Yet, there's something deeply relatable and identifiable of a person who just wants to be love.
She's incredibly emotionally complex. One unique thing about Harley is she kind of changes her entire personality depending on who she's around, and yet she's still Harley. Harley's just kind of this attention hungry, love seeking person, desperate to stand out, easy to get along with, easy to make friends. She's like this really wholesome while at the same time being a really toxic person, and all of those qualities make a volatile mix that just explodes into the funnest person ever.

Book Blurb: Murder most fowl? In this sardonic and campy YA thriller, an anxious, introverted nonbinary teen birder somehow finds themself investigating a murder with their neighbor/fellow anime lover, all while falling for a cute girl from their birding group...and trying not to get killed next. Sixteen-year-old Bianca Torre is an avid birder undergoing a gender identity crisis and grappling with an ever-growing list of fears. Some, like Fear #6: Initiating Conversation, keep them constrained, forcing them to watch birds from the telescope in their bedroom. And, occasionally, their neighbors. When their gaze wanders to one particular window across the street, Bianca witnesses a creepy plague-masked murderer take their neighbor’s life. Worse, the death is ruled a suicide, forcing Bianca to make a choice—succumb to their long list of fears (including #3 Murder and #55 Breaking into a Dead Guy’s Apartment), or investigate what happened. Bianca enlists the help of their friend Anderson Coleman, but the two have more knowledge of anime than true crime. As Bianca and Anderson dig deeper into the murder with a little help from Bianca’s crush and fellow birding aficionado, Elaine Yee (#13 Beautiful People, #11 Parents Discovering They’re a Raging Lesbian), the trio uncover a conspiracy much larger—and weirder—than imagined. And when the killer catches wind of the investigation, suddenly Bianca’s #1 fear of public speaking doesn’t sound so bad compared to the threat of being silenced for good.In this absurdist, darkly comical YA thriller that is a deceptively deep exploration of anxiety and identity, perhaps the real murder investigation is the friends we make along the way.
Review:
A queer teen finds themselves way over their head when they witness their neighbor get murdered and no one believes them... and it doesn’t help that their bird watching group might be at the center of it. Perfect for fans of Hitchcock’s Rear Window, this story follows 16 year old Bianca Torre, an avid bird watcher who is undergoing a gender identity crisis and an ever growing list of fears. Bianca is terrified of so many things thus why they are antisocial and spend most of their days watching their neighbors through binoculars and bird watching, their only other friend is another teen in the building and they spend their time watching anime together. Yet when Bianca witnesses a neighbor she’s sort of friends with get murdered by a creepy plague-masked individual, Bianca knows they have to get down to it because while the police believe it was a suicide, Bianca knows it wasn’t and that foul play was definitely involved. Now Bianca has to enlist the help of their friend Anderson and  the girl they have a massive crush on from their bird watching group, Elaine, to figure out the clues that Dead guy left behind for Bianca. But the more Bianca and co digs into it, the more threats start appearing and soon their lives will all be in danger. This was such a fun read that also deals with anxiety and exploration of identity while being a bit comical and perfect for fans of thrillers. This was a great read and I would definitely recommend it!
*Thanks Netgalley and HarperCollins Children's Books, Clarion Books for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review*

Leandrs BG
GW2!Leander is a rather old character and bits and pieces of his story are gone from my memory simply because over the past 9 years the most writing I’ve done for him are a few vague comic thumbnails. He feels like dry sand falling between my fingers, yet I like him like that. I think it’s finally time to go over what’s left of him in my head. And maybe add some new stuff in the future?
Tumblr media
Fragments of Home
Leander Coeth. Krytan. Born in 1308 AE to a couple of nobles in Divinity’s Reach. He was a well educated child, mainly because he spent more time with tutors than he did with his parents.
At the age of eleven (1319 AE) he was kidnapped by bandits while on his way to visit friends in Beetletun for a game of tag. Bandits demanded bribe money from the kid’s parents. The parents didn’t have the necessary amount as one of them had a gambling addiction. Bonus - they were also in the middle of a divorce. Putting their differences aside for their child’s sake was out of the question, and their decision making skills were pure garbage.
So their son ended up living with bandits in Brisban Wildlands for three years. He learned how to work with firearms, picked up lockpicking, trapping, tracking and other skills during his time with criminals and schemers. Despite their moral alignment they weren’t entirely horrible to Leander, which led the kid to feel like he fit in the group.
If his noble parents were to finally come around and find their son, the bandits wouldn’t let him go anymore. Leander, now nicknamed Lane, had become one of them.
Inquest of Sinister Triad
When Lane was fourteen (1322 AE), his group of bandits made the decision to become a part of the Sinister Triad in hopes of a better life. He got handed over to the Inquest side of the Sinister Triad like some sacrificial lamb.
An asura Chronomancer, Kwinden, (character belongs to @alteredsilicone) gingerly received the new subject. He had joined the Inquest to have more freedom in how he approached his research about stretching the limits of chronomancy. But his krewe fell apart over severe disagreements. This led the scientist to look past asura-only teammates and join the Sinister Triad to conduct his research among humans and nightmare courtiers who were more than eager to get their hands dirty and provide him with whatever he required.
Kwin erased Lane’s sense of self, the memories of people he had any kind of connection to. The teen may or may not have run off a few times before the scientist decided to take this approach.
Now all Lane has from before this point in time are vague images of people he believes he’s never met. They’re just fictitious fragments that his unconscious mind had cooked up in a dream.
Together they made steady progress in Kwinden’s chosen field of research, and though Lane was just a human lab rat, Kwin made sure the kid felt alright and gave him some level of freedom, so he could spend time with himself and his own interests which was a blessing after the more draining tests (especially the ones that involved time warps). Less fussy subjects are better subjects.
As years went by Leander himself became invested in Kwinden’s work. And even though he didn’t yet have the intellectual capacity to fully understand what was what, Kwin could still meet Lane on a similar brainwave and help him learn. Leander was on his way to become an engineer with a strong affinity for elixirs and burning things. He could finally take care of himself at a reliable level and at this point the asura trusted his personal human assistant enough to let him run errands instead of calling upon the thugs of the triad and watching them struggle to comprehend what’s being asked of them.
Less Than Friends
The Commander began their journey in 1325 AE. Leander was seventeen at this time. And Kwinden had a major breakthrough in his research. Though physically de-aging himself was an accident, he took it as a victory worth celebrating. After all, he was an old man and standard mesmer magic only let him alter his appearance. It did nothing for his pained back and brittle bones.
Originally it was another time-warp test that was run on Lane, but oddly enough yielded no results aside from increased blood pressure. It frustrated the asura as it made no sense. He firmly believed his calculations were correct and thus confidently ran the test on himself. In reality the experiment had an invisible effect - Kwin almost entirely stopped Lane’s biological clock by leaving his body in something of a time loop, but figured out this mishap several years later when the human’s unchanging youth started becoming suspicious. So the same test yielded two different results on two different subjects. Unfortunately the asura couldn’t go back to the notes related to this experiment to undo it. The lab had been ransacked and burnt down just a month after his own age-reversing success.
The duo left the Sinister Triad to build their own private lab elsewhere. Lane finally had the opportunity to travel where his eyes led him, and made friendly connections with various peculiar characters along the way. In 1327 AE they formed a guild which did its part by lending strength to The Pact in the fight against the Elder dragon Mordremoth. The events leading up to the battle with the jungle dragon caused significant losses, squabbles and trust issues among the members and the guild fell apart shortly after The Pact claimed victory over Mordremoth in 1328 AE.
One of the two ex-guildmates that Lane is still in touch with is Zachren, a sylvari guardian whose life the engineer saved by pure chance while gathering kindling for a night under the stars of Blazeridge Steppes. Zachren then stuck with him through thick and thin on the branded battlefield while the human gathered research material for his mentor.
The sylvari willingly joined The Nightmare Court after Mordremoth fell and the guild disbanded. They don’t talk much since then but Zachren always makes time for when Lane visits to have a meal together now and then.
The other one is Caserin Kyn, a necromesmer who resides in some deep end of nowhere in the middle of Shiverpeaks and knows more than he lets on. Though Lane says nothing about it, he suspects Kyn has treaded paths similar to Kwinden’s and remains in hiding for safety.
They originally met at a norn alemoot. Kyn was drunk as a skunk and asked a stranger to help him get home. The stranger turned out to be Leander who was there to briefly warm up by the fire before setting out to gather a specific kind of lichen. He gathered the material while trying to make sense of the instructions the drunk man was giving him. Although strange and entirely random, them running into one another turned out to be mutually beneficial.
The necromesmer tends to provide valuable tools and artifacts under ridiculous conditions, and for this reason alone is intensely detested by everyone in the Priory. He is a collector with a twisted sense of humor, along with a visible bloodstone addiction, and is difficult to negotiate with.
Lane tends to stay over at his place to test elixirs together. They’ve made an agreement that Leander can take whatever materials he needs from Kyn’s collection as long as he helps the necromesmer break an invisible bond with someone who’s out to kill the man.
Holosmith
The engineer dealt with the loss of his guild by wandering and doing odd jobs in various places for a while. He visited the major cities of each allied race to learn more about their culture and pick up on some technical knowledge, especially from the charr.
In 1330 AE when the Commander made way to Elona to pursue the rogue god, Leander caught wind of the concept of holosmithing and decided to pursue it.
Tumblr media
I shifted my character focus from Leander to Caserin in 2017 and then took a significant break from gw2 during 2018-2022 so this is where his story stops for now. Will update this post (much) later when I go through the entire story of the game again. I'm so.. so out of the loop with the lore.

Movies I watched this Week #128 (Year 3/Week 24):
Nils Malmros’s Tree of knowledge (”Kundskabens træ”) has always been my favorite Danish movie, and also one of my general All-time Top-Five favorites - Ever. Together with Truffault’s ‘Small Change’, it’s also the best movie about the pains of puberty and the joys of adolescence.
It was hard to find online, and seeing it again after many years, is like meeting an old lover after 40 years apart, and they hasn’t age a day. It’s a perfect masterpiece without a single faulty frame.
A nostalgic trip to provincial Århus at the end of the 1950′s, Malmros spent two years filming a group of teens as they struggle with first loves and heartbreaks. A tragic story of innocent lost. (Photo Above).
Later Edit:
A second viewing the next day confirmed that it is indeed an impeccable classic, subtle and precise. So many Friday night jazz parties where for their first time the kids are allowed to dance in the dark cheek to cheek to Gershwin’s ‘The man I love’.
“You probably don’t get that there’s only has to be very little for people to talk”:  The misery that befalls Erin as she turns from the popular girl into a pariah is crushing. 10/10.
🍿   Lourdes, my 1st film by Austrian filmmaker Jessica Hausner, starring the incomparable Léa Seydoux as a young nun with a twinkle in her eye. A rarely seen subject of Catholic cripples and handicapped pilgrims who flock to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, searching for a miracle. With priests who look like Cardinal Mahoney, Holy water sprinkled around and piously praying invalids, it feels very much like a blanding of Buñuel and Haneke. It must have been shot with the permission of the church, as much of it looks like part of the real rituals going on there. However, it hides a certain unorthodox subversiveness. 7/10.
🍿
2 more by British director Michael Radford:
🍿 “...If you want a vision of the future, Winston, imagine a boot stamping on a human face forever...”
Nineteen Eighty-Four, the original hopeless dystopia. Orwell’s frightening vision of totalitarianism, mass surveillance, thought-police and total repression was anti-Stalinist when he wrote it, but it became a real-life blue-print for today’s hyper-Capitalist societies too.
Many of the scenes were shot on the days noted originally in the novel. The scene where Winston Smith writes in his diary, dating the entry April 4, 1984, was filmed on April 4, 1984. It was Richard Burton’s final film, and was photographed by Roger Deakins. 9/10.
Terry Gilliam’s ‘Brazil’ came a year later and also described a doomed love story in a cheerless bureaucratic nightmare. But unlike Brazil, 1984 had only dark and painful reality to deal with, no flights of surrealism and fancy.
"...Oranges and lemons, Say the bells of St. Clement's.  You owe me five farthings, Say the bells of St. Martin's...”
🍿 Lovable 80-year-olds Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer fall in love in New Orleans in Elsa and Fred. He’s reserved and bitter, she’s exuberant and over-whelming, and there’s a Picasso drawing of her that is used as ‘Chekhov’s gun’.  Also, it was George Segal’s last film. 5/10.
I love it when an unusual musical note in a movie signifys an emotional high-point, and when checking the clock, it’s exactly 47:30 minutes in - the middle of the movie!
Maybe it’s time to watch Fellini’s ‘8 1/2′ again [The Anita Ekberg dive in the Trevi Fountain is the film’s driver].
🍿
The Farewell Party (’Good Death’ in Hebrew) is a tragic-comic story about old age and mercy killing. A group of seniors at an assisted living home develop a machine for self-euthanasia. They reluctantly use it on one of their dying friends, but once the word gets around, more and more people want it. 7/10.
🍿   First watch: Bergman’s magnetic, early romance film Summer with Monika. It was considered scandalous at the time, because of “frank” nude scenes. Star-making vehicle to young rebel Harriet Andersson (still alive and 91-year-old). 100% score on ‘Rotten Tomatoes’ and no argument from me there. Terrific Mise-en-scène, crisp cinematography and rich visual story-telling.
It featured Åke Fridell (’Plog’ from ‘The Seventh Seal’) as her father. On the official Bergman site, there’s a good list of many of his other collaborators.
[There are some early Bergman’s films I haven’t seen yet, which I have to remedy ASAP] 🍿
2 more with Robert De Nero:
🍿 Sergio Leone’s last, overrated film, Once upon a time in America, the 229-min. Cut. It’s a crime saga about Jewish gangsters, a Spaghetti Godfather if you will, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Coppola’s. ‘The Godfather’ is perfect in spirit and execution, and every element in it works. Leone’s facsimile is epic and stylish, but most of it feels like a vacant rip-off. Some good performance from De Nero, and some great romantic scenes (Jennifer Connelly reading the Psalms, and reuniting with Deborah again), but the young characters (and many of the others, including wooden James Wood) are bland and unauthentic.
Without Ennio Morricone’s swiping score elevating every scene it plays with, the film wouldn’t get half the accolades it received. And the brutal, unprovoked rape scene was shocking and uncalled for. Not a superb film - 5/10.
RIP, Treat Williams!
🍿 Ellis, a short (15 min.) poetic evocation of the large hospital complex in Ellis Island. Basically it’s Robert De Nero, “The immigrant”, walking slowly in abandoned corridors, accompanied by some vaguely-moody piano chords, reciting in a somber voice-over some vaguely impressionist lines about dreams and immigrants and yearnings. 1/10.
🍿
2 very different documentaries:
🍿 Close to Vermeer is a very moving Dutch documentary about the staging and preparation of last year’s Rijksmuseum Vermeer exhibition, the largest ever mounted. Only 34 paintings are universally attributed to him today, and the museum’s curators were able to bring a total of 28 of them for this magnificent event. Scholars and researchers, collectors and art historians participate in this sober, quiet and passionate exploration of the enigmatic 'Sphinx of Delft‘.
Close to transcendence - 10/10.
(The trailer in inferior to the film itself.)
[This is the 3rd Vermeer film that I’ve seen (after Penn & Teller’s documentary ‘Tim’s Vermeer’ and Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’, both terrific!). As a completist, I now discovered 6 more films that I will watch in the near future: ‘All The Vermeers In New York’, ‘Brush with fate’, Dan Friedkin‘s ‘The last Vermeer’ (That one sounds odd!), the Dutch ‘A real Vermeer’, and two more documentaries, ‘Vermeer: Master of Light’ narrated by Meryl Streep, and the newest ‘Vermeer: The Greatest Exhibition’, about this same exhibition at the Rijksmuseum. Can’t wait!]
🍿 The art of the prank is a fun 2015 documentary about provocative Culture Jammer Joey Skaggs, who had been staging elaborate media pranks since the 60′s. Like previous hoaxers ‘Coyle and Sharpe’, and later ones ‘Yes Men’ and ‘Improv Everywhere’, he builds ‘Fake news’ performances art events, designed to stir shit and embarrass the inane world of television news. Things like ‘Cathouse for dogs’, ‘Celebrity sperm bank’ and ‘Comacocoon’.
🍿  Hacksaw Ridge, my first film directed by known homophobe / antisemite Mel Gibson. [Watched after encouragement from Ahmad]. I’m not big on war dramas, even when they’re about a real-life conscientious objector. Trying to combine the opening from ‘Saving Private Ryan’ with ‘Full Metal Jacket’ boot camp hysterics. But I still can’t stand Andrew Garfield, Vince Vaughn is no Lee Ermey, and the war parts were simply not interesting. 4/10.
🍿
“I Really Don’t Like Netflix” X 2:
🍿 Inside the mind of a cat, a typically-trash Netflix documentary, narrated by a highly-irritating “pleasant” voice. The only way to endure it is by turning of the sound and reading the subtitles. Lazy and un-inteligent, but “Hey: Cats!” - The second most-common reason to go on the internet.
🍿 After years of anticipation, Season 6 of Black Mirror finally dropped. Was it as good as some of the previous ones? An Emphatic No!
Episode 1, ‘Joan is awful’, was awful. An average woman is stunned to discover that Netflix has launched a prestige TV drama adaptation of her life, in which she is portrayed by Salma Hayek, and taking a shit in a church. Inception-like Meta-Netflix labyrinth with an unlikable cast making fun of themselves. 3/10.
Episode 2, ‘Loch Henry’, a meta-making of a True Crime series about a notorious serial killer who tortured his victims in a quaint faraway Scottish village. Unoriginal horror tale. 2/10.
Episode 3, ‘Beyond the sea’ too was sub-par on every level. A sadistic sci-fi, all superficial with no depth of emotions. Using Charles Trenet’s “La Mer” improves any movie immeasurably, from the opening to LA Story to the ending of Mr. Bean. But here, in a typical Netflix appropriation, it felt 100% fake. 2/10.
Episode 4, ‘Mazey Day’: Another hit-and-run thriller + unscrupulous paparazzi + LA Thomas Guide (which means it’s the early 2000′s!) which turns into a gory ‘American werewolf in London’ fantasy-thingy. 4/10.
The set up of Episode 5, ‘Demon 79′ was ridiculous: “A young Indian Sales Assistant accidentally frees a ruthless and handsome demon-in-training who is required to damn a soul to hell in order to become a full-fledged demon. The sales assistant is told she must kill three people for the demon-in-training, with the demon threatening to cause a nuclear apocalypse if she refuses”. But it was the only episode in this season that worked, and the only one that will be worth re-visiting. It was directed by the guy who also did ‘USS Callister’, another absurd concept that he got right. 8/10.

the harsh beeps giving way to a continuous scream. a moment of silence, where the city stopped breathing, then an explosion of life once more. even the greatest heros barely had a seconds silence. but the life returning was different, a frantic worry. electricity was visible zipping down poles, and roads warped. if one were to measure this, they would find that all the disturbances pointed to one clinic in crime ally. a clinic owned by one Leslie Thomkins. where, as of a few seconds ago, a hero had died.

Simple Carries IMPACT! #HEARTSTOPPER
Let's take a look at the Neflix adaptation of Heartstopper, a teen romance of two boys who meet, become friends, and fall in love. This series, and the graphic novels they are pulled from, subverts tropes and cliches left and right in order to give us a straightforward and powerful message about the beauty of self-discovery.
(Also, there are at least 2 different ways to say the name Tara, and I apparently use them interchangeably. *shrug)

The following is an imperfect transcript of this episode. A complete transcript can be found on the show’s webpage.
[00:00:00] Hello, and welcome to the show Writing in the Tiny House. I am on a mission to abolish the idea of the tormented artist by sharing what I know about writing, publishing, and just life in general, so that you can have the tools to produce the content that you have been eager to write. If you have this steps in place, you can produce a short story in as few as three months or a novel in as few as 18 months.
And hopefully through the ideas in this podcast, you will have the wisdom to adjust that timeline if you need to. I am Devin Davis, the guy who lives and writes in a tiny house in Northern Utah. Thank you for tuning in and please enjoy today's episode of Writing in the Tiny House.
[00:01:00] Hello, and welcome to today's episode of Writing in the Tiny House. My goodness, friends. It is the final episode that I have for you in this very special month of June. I don't know about you, but this Pride month has been a huge roller coaster for me. There has been a lot to do. There has been a lot to celebrate. And I wanted to carry on with this for one final episode, but I promise it applies directly to creative writing, but we are going to delve in to a Netflix series and a comic coincidentally enough that has made its way into my heart and into the hearts of millions of people around the world. we are going to be talking about heart stopper, which is a Netflix series taken from the comic of the same name, which is created by a woman named Alice Oseman. Heart stopper came to Netflix just over two months ago [00:02:00] and it has been received with incredible positivity and a huge fandom already. I don't think that the people who created heart stopper could have ever imagined the success that it would get in just two months. And it has been astounding. Some of the things that I have seen on the internet, heart stopper has encouraged so many people to share in such safe spaces, their own stories of coming out, their own stories of struggling with this or that. And it has created wonderful communities of engagement for people to share these stories.
And I personally believe that one of the most important things that we can do to heal one another is to listen to each other's stories. So today on Writing in the Tiny House, we are going to pick apart Episode three of heart stopper. And yeah, this is going to have spoilers. And so if you want to go ahead and hop on the [00:03:00] bandwagon and join the fandom of heart stopper, please do that.
And if you don't want to hear these spoilers, then go ahead and pause this episode and take four hours out of your life to watch Season One of heart stopper on Netflix, and then come back and listen to what I have to say about it. This is not a critique of the show, and this is not a review of the show.
I'm not going to pretend that everything about the show is perfect. But what we are going to do is talk about subverted tropes and subverted cliches, and the power that comes with keeping a storyline simple. I mean, sometimes a complicated storyline is absolutely what you need. If you are writing thrillers, if you are reading thrillers, then that's kind of what comes along with the genre.
However, if you have a very simple message about a situation that is oftentimes misunderstood, sometimes keeping it simple is the [00:04:00] most powerful thing to do. As I go through episode three of heart stopper, I'm going to share with you what happens in the episode and then share with you the different cliches that come about in teen romances and in some of these other LGBTQ plus related movies and other series that heart stopper avoided.
And what consequences it would have had had they played into that. So hard stopper is a very basic storyline and I love that. I mean, in the tagline for heart stopper, Alice Oseman says, boy meets boy, boys become friends, boys fall in love. And it's as simple as that. our main characters are Charlie and Nick.
Charlie is an openly gay kid and Nick is a rugby player, a popular one too. And they attend the same. [00:05:00] All boys, school of Tru um, grammar school. And they are a grade apart and due to reassignments and stuff, they're in the same form and this is how they meet each other. Through this series, we see Charlie coming to grips with self-esteem and his role of how he gets to have some of the happiness that other people can give him.
He has a history of being bullied and his coming out was not taken. Perfectly his coming out story was not easily accepted in an all boys school. On the other side of the coin or on the other half of this relationship, we have Nick who has, it seems never had a moment to explore or think about his sexual preferences or his sexual identity until he meets Charlie.
And. This first [00:06:00] season of heart stopper covers his coming to terms with his bisexuality. He comes to realize that he likes both boys and girls, and this is him coming to feel that out and to embrace what that actually is. So in seat, let's see, in episode three, The main part that I wish to talk about is the birthday party.
So this is a privileged kid's birthday party. He comes from a rich background and they rented an entire venue for him to celebrate his birthday. So the really like the ballroom, the really high ceilings. And of course, if you follow the staircases, there are empty rooms. all around. This is a very big building and they rented the whole thing to celebrate this kid's 16th birthday. During this party, it seems that everybody showed up and there are two other characters that become very, very [00:07:00] important.
I feel at this point in time. So Nick is. Brought face to face with a girl that he kissed three years ago. Her name is Tara and. While they're talking to each other. they have a private moment for a second in kind of a quiet hallway or a corridor or whatever. Tara gets the courage to confide in Nick that she is dating a girl and that she is gay and yay.
And Nick appears to be really appreciative of this and through their little conversation. We realized that Tara is very new to this scene, but she and her girlfriend Darcy are deciding to be more brave and less conservative about how they are. Dealing with their relationship. So they have decided to become a little bit more brave and to be a little bit more public with how they are showing their affection to one another.
[00:08:00] And Nick seems to admire this a few moments later, everybody is on the dance floor and the camera zooms in on Tara and Darcy. and they're dancing. They're having a great time. There are the fluorescent lights everywhere. There's the really loud, really exciting dance music. And the two of them share a kiss and it is one of the funnest.
beautiful moments in a teen romance that I have witnessed in a long time. And not only is it just a beautiful moment, but everything that comes afterward. So they are in a crowded dance floor and they have the courage to kiss each other potentially in front of all of these peers. and then immediately after the kiss, they get to celebrate by dancing.
And so they're holding each other's hands. They're doing the spinning in circles thing because the age group of this crowd is about 15 and 16 years old. And so they're [00:09:00] celebrating as teenagers would, this was a big milestone for them. And it seems that even though it is a crowded room, Nobody really saw them do it except Nick and Nick stands there and it is obvious. With the way it is portrayed. And with the way it is filmed that Nick finds this to be a very special moment and a big gift for him to explore his own feelings and a few moments later, he and Charlie go to one of the empty rooms up upstairs.
Now they're not bedrooms. This is a venue. This is like a smaller ballroom upstairs, or a smaller meeting room upstairs. And they're alone in this other room and they find the moments to very adorably share with each other that they have feelings for each other. And they, Nick and Charlie share their first kiss [00:10:00] immediately after that, because Nick is Venturing into uncharted waters. He hears some of his friends call his name. So he runs out of this smaller room to go talk to them because he's just worried. He doesn't want them barging in to see him and Charlie kissing and Charlie who is dealing with some of his past trauma and some of his distrust and his own self-esteem issues.
Cause his dad. Completely heartbroken to come pick him up and he leaves the venue and goes home. And you expect this to be probably the worst thing in the whole world, as far as the way the series goes. However, at the end of episode, three, Nick shows up in the rain and you know, that they are going to make things right.
And that is how episode three ends. So. Let's go through this again and talk about all of the tropes and cliches that heart stopper [00:11:00] chose to avoid in this. And I'm not, I'm probably not going to be able to touch on all of them, but I am going to mention some really big ones that show up in teen romance.
And I'm going to say right now that some of the things that show up with the LGBTQ representation or the one or two LGBTQ characters, oftentimes those characters are there to be funny. it seems the male character is there to be snappy and witty and sassy and.
Oftentimes, that is just kind of the role that they play, the stereotype that they get to be in with heart stopper. The entire thing is based on same gender, or there is one relationship that is transgender. And so representation is all over the place. But in this series, everything is treated as completely normal and that is already a huge.
Step that is [00:12:00] already a very big point to be made here, but let's get to episode three again, to this birthday party, it's already kind of a trope that there is a rich kid who can rent out an entire venue for his 16th birthday. I was raised in very small town USA, and I don't remember really anybody celebrating their 16th that big.
I mean, perhaps we could have rented out like, the front room of the days in or something. I mean, there were nice places in the city I grew up in, but these really big 16th birthday things, weren't something that we saw much where I was raised. I do know however that they do happen immediately. we see the absence of things that come up in a lot of teen romance or teen drama And the first thing that we get to not see is the presence of a lot of heavy drinking. So in almost I, in so many American. Teen dramas or teen romance series [00:13:00] and movies. If there is a party, it is going to be unsupervised and there's going to be buckets of underage drinking.
I know that underage drinking is a thing, but it seems that it shows up everywhere in cinema. I also know that this does not take place in America and underage drinking as far younger over there. And so that's fine. But this is actually the important thing. Nobody was drunk at the party.
there might have been something that I missed. I mean, there was one character kind of acting silly, but there wasn't drinking there wasn't drugs. There wasn't even talk of any of those things. And the reason why that's important is because these super tender moments that happen while at the party in.
Their own private ways. That first conversation between Nick and Tara, if Nick or Tara had been drunk or on something that conversation couldn't have been so intimate and so full of trust immediately, [00:14:00] it was because everybody was level headed that Tara decided to open up to Nick and tell him that she was a lesbian and was dating Darcy also.
On the dance floor when Tara and Darcy share in their kiss in front of all of their peers, the energy of that would've been entirely different. Had anybody been impaired, if that had not been a completely level headed kiss filled with love and joy and excitement and a huge moment of celebration, it wouldn't have carried the same weight and it would've not affected Nick in the same way.
Did. then later with the first kiss that Nick and Charlie share, we have all seen the movie where that first kiss or that first. moment or that first vulnerable moment, one of the people in the relationship is drunk and does something by mistake. It would've completely ruined the storyline of this season, or it would've just created a [00:15:00] problem that would've had to be resolved later and probably wouldn't have been resolved very well.
When when Tara and Darcy were on the floor and they have their kiss, they get a moment to celebrate and a moment to be excited about it. And Nick was there to see, there is always in a team drama. It seems that there is somebody looking out to stab somebody in the back. If that kiss would've been immediately ruined.
It's possible that Nick would've not had the courage to share his affection for Charlie. If somebody would've stepped in and made fun of Tara, of Tara and Darcy for kissing on the dance floor, the entire tone of the party and the entire tone of the events that could have come later, would've changed.
And it would've been more about throwing a wrench in the plot of the story, rather than showing [00:16:00] us the beautiful innocence and the beautiful transformation of these fun relationships. It also could have discouraged Nick from being brave and exploring his feelings for Charlie one last cliche, and then we'll wrap it up.
in episode three, Nick and Charlie have their kiss. and then Nick hears his friends calling out his name and because he's scared for whatever personal reasons. It doesn't really say what perhaps he was worried of them. Worried that they would walk in and find this and he wasn't ready for that. He immediately stands up and runs out of the room to go talk with them.
And who knows how long they were actually talking So a cliche that was avoided in this situation was actually having somebody walk in or having somebody listen in or having somebody a fly on the wall.
[00:17:00] Invade the privacy and the tender moment of these two boys sharing their, a admitting their affection for one another. And then that person holding it over their head as a form of black male. We've all seen that before. We've seen people kissing people and somebody seeing that who shouldn't have seen it and then holds it over their heads as a way to get what they wanted or as a way to ruin a reputation or just ruin something a way to exact revenge or a way to. Pull negative attention away from themselves or whatever that didn't happen here.
And I believe that had it happened that way. It also would've ruined the plot of the story. That was not the point of this. That was not the PO like that stuff is not the point of heart stopper. It's not how heart stopper works. in many of the current teen romances that [00:18:00] involve gay characters. It seems that many of the gay characters are very sex forward. And so to admit your feelings for somebody automatically leads to sex in those stories, that didn't happen with heart stopper either. In fact, there's no sex in hot in heart stopper, at least not in season one.
and that's nice. So the reason why we are talking about subverting tropes and subverting cliches is because hard stopper is all about exploring and inviting the viewer or the reader. If you are reading the comics, because you remember this is a Netflix adaptation of the comics that share the same name.
It allows the viewer or the reader to witness this beautiful blooming, this beautiful blossoming of something new. when it does that, the, [00:19:00] the reader or the viewer gets to see this happen and it allows them to feel, and it allows them to experience. The honesty of these situations and the honesty of these emotions, the thing is subverting all of these tropes and all of these cliches allows the entire emotion of.
Heart stopper to be 100% honest feeling. I mean, it's a work of fiction. None of this is real, but it allows it to feel authentic and because it feels authentic, there's something to learn about it. We get to see in Charlie, a person struggling and overcoming the effects of bullying and The hard times and the hard job that it is to overcome all of that and still remain happy.
He still struggles with it throughout the thing. And he's not 100% arrived at being better. at the end of the first season, And spoiler alert. The effects of [00:20:00] bullying actually gave him an unhealthy relationship with food, which is set up throughout all of season one. All of this completely makes sense also with Nick with him just being a simple rugby player.
Popular doing his best, but not living life in a very deep way. And coming to this awakening that he is bisexual, that he likes both men and women. And right now he really likes Charlie. And so he's going to pursue a relationship with Charlie and coming to the realization. Oh my goodness.
I am different. and, oh my goodness. What does this actually mean? Keeping everything honest and authentic pulls the reader in. So a lot of times the little tricks that I mentioned that heart stopper avoided, we throw those things in as a way to build tension in the storyline so that people will continue reading.
But the thing is one of the [00:21:00] biggest things that I have learned about writing is. That people continue to read because there is a reason to continue reading. They continue reading because they want to. So regardless of if it is tension, if it is a thick plot twist, or if it is the threat of blackmail or if it is a big mistake, because someone was drunk, sometimes it is more of a simple.
Honest heartfelt thing that will keep a reader hooked and a watcher in this case, because this is a TV show too. It will keep someone hooked to continue witnessing what comes next. So with heart stopper, we are watching the gradual budding and blooming of this beautiful same sex relationship. Actually, a couple of them.
[00:22:00] Tara and Darcy's relationship was a little bit further along the path. It started out further along the path at the beginning of heart stopper, but everything ends in a more beautiful place. And we see the very beginnings of a relationship between a trans girl and a straight boy. because this is only season one and there is already a huge cannon of comics. It, it makes us immediately want to go read all the comics. We do that because we know That unless we read more, unless we see more, unless we continue with all of this, we are not going to see the roses that are inevitably going to be at the end.
So that's the thing, friends, these little tricks, the little trophy things, the little cliches. Sometimes they do succeed in building tension, but sometimes. like in the case of heart stopper, they can [00:23:00] really pull us away from a deeper, more beautiful and more simple form of storytelling.
And it can prevent that from conveying a very beautiful message. So one of the biggest takeaways That has formulated in my mind is that all of this, the same sex relationships love can look any way that it wants to. And here is a beautiful example of how, and to be gay, a person can understand that they are gay from the very get go.
there are still other people who don't know. If they're attracted to men, women, or whomever in between until they are given the chance to decide, just because in Nick's case, it's possible that he never considered it. He never considered what all of that looked like for him until.
he was met with a boy who [00:24:00] peaked his interest and they became friends first before they became boyfriends. So that is the take home for today. If you are a writer or a creator of some form of content, where you have a lesson about a topic that is largely misunderstood.
And it can be about anything Sometimes keeping the story simple. Is a way to keep it powerful so that's all I have for you today. I hope that you have had a wonderful pride month. This has. One of the biggest months, probably in my adult life that I will remember. And I love the reason we celebrate pride. I am going to be celebrating pride in a very big way from here on out. H/D CAREER FAIR 2021 ANONYMOUS MASTERLIST
(IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)
ART
A City of Shattered Souls (Digital Comic, Teen)
It's a lonely, gruelling job— digging holes for bodies night after night. But Draco will do the dirty work if that allows him to exist and get by. Then, Harry starts showing up every night to get Draco's insights for an investigation linked to recent grave robberies. He certainly makes good company, especially when odd things stir in the dark...
Amor Caminus (Digital Comic, Teen)
Local blacksmith, Harry Potter, has been tasked with forging a unique sword for the Prince's upcoming battle. Prince Draco expects to leave with a heavy heart, but his secret suitor has something else in mind.
An Issue of Touch (Digital, Teen)
Harry Potter has been enlisted by Professor Longbottom to gather some rare species of water plants for his client's potions project. Seems easy enough but there's a catch, because, isn't there always? Said plant is poisonous and potentially lethal to human touch whilst underwater. What's a herbology assistant to do? Seek the help of a pretty (annoying) merman, of course.
Bound To Meet Again (Digital, General)
Some of Harry's smaller kids fell in love with their new teacher. Harry can't wait to meet him, thanking him for making his kids feel safe and happy. He's shocked when he discovers Draco there, covered in paint from their recent art project, smiling widely at all the children around him.
It's A Whole Beautiful Mess (Digital, General)
Draco Malfoy is a healer and his life is already full when he move into a new apartment, only to discover his neighbor Harry Potter is in a complete chaos due to having adopt two newborns. After founding out his profession, Harry knocking on his door for every little thing about the twins became the normality, so much that Draco had to admit that in the end he was not upset at all. In fact, he ended up spending more and more time with the little family and eventually fell in love with Harry.
Party Invitations and Falling in Love with Your Sworn Enemy: A Tactical Guide (Digital Comic, Teen)
Chronicling the trials and tribulations of one Draco Malfoy, employee of the Godric's Hollow Postal Office, and the events unfolding around the hottest local party in the calendar year. Featuring: Owlengitis, bingo-based plots, and Julie Bumble's questionable neighbourhood erotica.
Portrait of a Saviour as described by his lover. (Digital, Teen)
Harry finds one of Draco's pieces and becomes fascinated. His fascination only grows when given the opportunity to become the model and muse.
Resistance and Princes (Traditional, Teen)
Drawn for the prompt: Harry Potter, heir of the Light Kingdom, is long feared to be dead. Draco Malfoy is a prince who grew up under the shadow of the Dark Lord, listening to tales of the brave Potters and their untimely demise.
Far away, a street urchin with a lightning scar on his forehead grows up to be a formidable fighter and joins the resistance operating to overthrow the Dark Lord’s reign, under the nom de guerre "the Firebolt".
When Draco was forced to become the Dark Lord’s consort, Draco's and the Firebolt’s paths collide, and both of their lives are changed forever.
Scrimshaw (Digital, Mature)
scrim·shaw
verb
adorn (whalebone, ivory, shells, or other materials) with carved or colored designs.
Seaside Sentiments (Digital Comic, General)
Merfolk researcher Harry Potter has been looking for signs of merfolk along the coast, and a very handsome merman has been watching him from afar. (A short, silent comic with Little Mermaid vibes.)
sinopia (an underpainting) (Digital, General)
In the sanctuary's high light he stood, with plaster-smudged fingers and brush in hand, and glazed the wall gold. And I watched him painting from between the pews, his lips parted in concentration, and his arms corded in muscle. And I wondered if he touched me, this young god before me, what would happen?
Talk Like That (Digital Comic, Mature)
Crime Lord Draco is suspicious of his bodyguard’s loyalty — what happens when an innocent confrontation turns into a heated conversation?
ART AND FIC
A Summer in Bordeaux (29k, Explicit)
Harry turns. Malfoy leans against the doorway to the back garden under the halo of a gaslamp dangling overhead. The warm glow of the flame casts him in a golden light, and he’s framed on either side by trailing grapevines cascading over the garden walls. So soft, Harry thinks, where the Malfoy in his mind once seemed so sharp.
“You look like a painting,” Harry tells him.
At the end of our world (61k, Explicit)
It took three days before the first hints were on the news, and a week before Harry spotted the first Infected on his own street. A month until there was no chance of stopping the panic, and six weeks until the government and Ministry fell. Then the TV stopped airing anything but a standby with the message ‘Stay safe’, and the world as he'd known it ended forever.
Ten weeks later he got an answer from Hermione. "It spread. There's no way back. We love you, Harry. Take care."
Freaky Fridays (5k, Digital, Teen)
A camera, two dorks and very nice ghosts.
FIC
A Game of Two Halves (23k, Mature)
Harry Potter owns a pub and hasn't thought about Draco Malfoy, who hasn't been seen in the magical world in the past nine years, once. Two-thirds of that sentence are true. Then the ancient television gets turned on during some football tournament, and there's Draco Malfoy, scoring a goal for France. Football? France? Malfoy?
A Little Wild, A Little Damaged (18k, Explicit)
It should have been simple. Get a hair cut, attend Ron and Hermione's wedding, go back to self-imposed exile. Of course, nothing was ever simple in Harry Potter's life.
A Tale of Tapestries (5k, Teen)
Flailing in a mid-life crisis, Harry decides he must learn the history of his family. The problem is that everyone he asks to help him sends him to Draco, a skilled wizarding genealogist with exorbitant hourly research rates. Well, at least the first appointment is free. Can't hurt, right?
An Improbable Bout of Summer Madness (17k, Explicit)
Draco had planned a quiet, peaceful summer holiday with his son. The last thing he expected was to find Potter here, in Draco's little Cornish retreat. Making fudge in a shop? The idea was too ludicrous for words.
(In which alarming amounts of sweets are consumed, Cornwall is thoroughly explored, Scorpius is a darling boy, and Harry Potter is a horrid assault on Draco's sanity.)
And Draco Makes Four (10k, Mature)
Right when Harry was about to become the youngest Head Auror in a century — just as everyone else expected of him — he made a decision that changed his life. Adopting twins wasn’t in his plans, but Harry was about to discover that unplanned things are the best ones. Including Draco Malfoy entering the equation.
and they called it puppy love (6k, Teen)
“Merlin,” Draco said. “I can’t decide who’s more crass, you or your Crup.”
Harry smiled. “Oh, it's definitely me. I’m working on teaching him rude language, but we’re having a hard time with the shape of his mouth and tongue.” He smirked. “I’ve almost got him saying ‘berk’.”
“I hate you,” Draco said. “You’re a horrible man and I cannot believe your pet is so valuable and you named him sodding Spot.”
“Oh, he goes by Spot for short.” Harry winked. “Sodding Spot was his father.”
Draco ignored him. “Mimsey,” he said. “Go meet Spot.”
Or five times Draco unsuccessfully tries to get his and Harry's Crups to mate and the one time they're successful.
At a Place Where Accountants Work (8k, Mature)
Nobody asks you questions when you say you're an accountant. But sometimes you have to put yourself out there before anything good can happen.
Baby's Eyes, Open Wide (40k, Mature)
This is a story about coming back to life, though it has nothing to do with resurrection. Instead, here lies a journey of moving on and finding home, and two broken people discovering what it truly means to be alive.
Featuring: A little dog with grey and white polka dots. Galaxies, supernovas, and the brightest of stars. Large eyes, chubby cheeks, tiny hands, and the littlest feet.
Better than Chocolate (14k, Teen)
Harry has a hankering for chocolate. He stumbles across Draco Malfoy's chocolate shop. He decides to make friends.
Call Me, Won’t You? (38k, Teen)
Draco's sentence seemed a never-ending drag of groundhog days and melancholy. Ten years of isolation as a means of punishment hadn't sounded nearly as bad as the threat of Azkaban, but he hadn't considered just what that entailed.
Phone call after phone call invariably ended with a sigh and a extended series of beeps. Until one call, one unexpected call, hauled Draco from his monotony and back to life for the first time in years.
Clearing the Atmosphere (11k, Teen)
The atmospheric charms at Malfoy Manor are failing, causing some rooms to be freezing and others to be stifling. The group of friends who come over regularly to have dinner at the Manor complain about the heat of the dining hall, the house elves are working in winter parkas, and when Draco wakes up to find his bedroom turned into an orange grove, it's time to call an expert.
Country Roads (8k, Explicit)
On his farm, Harry grows magical crops and keeps magical creatures. His Muggle-Repelling and Masking Charms are not doing well and he’s attracting unwanted attention and suspicion from his Muggle neighbours. The Ministry sends Draco to make sure that everything abides to the International Statue of Secrecy.
It's been a few years since Harry and Draco have seen each other, and they are both a little shocked by the sexual spark between them.
Develop, Stop and Fix (15k, Explicit)
In his five years in New York City, James Black has earned significant fame as a photographer. In fact, he's attracted the attention of London curator D. Black. Harry Potter uses a fake name and runs away. In a way, so does Draco Malfoy. How do these stories connect? It's quite simple: they're one and the same.
Double-Oh Potter (6k, Explicit)
Harry knew he needed something different, something outside the Ministry. When a chance at the muggle secret service came up, he jumped immediately. He never expected the voice in his ear would be Draco Malfoy.
Draco Malfoy is not a Werewolf (4k, Teen)

Haunted By Separation (66k, Explicit)
It’s always easier to think different thoughts than work through the hard ones. It's so much easier to run and hide somewhere you think nothing will come to get you. When Narcissa dies, and his boyfriend dumps him, Draco elects to run away to the sleepy little village of Hogsmeade. Only no one was expecting for Harry Potter to take over The Hog's Head just months after.
Head in the Game (17k, Explicit)
Harry and Malfoy shagged. But it’s fine, Harry doesn’t have feelings for him or anything. Yet he isn’t too thrilled when Malfoy gets hired as a Sports Therapist for Harry’s team – Puddlemere United. Of course, he gives massages. And of course, Harry has to bear witness to Malfoy making player after player groan in pleasure.
Hey Spaceman (13k, Teen)
Harry is one of the worlds most well-known astrophysicists. When the UK announced they were joining the space race with their own mission to Mars, Harry knew he needed to follow his dream. He just didn't expect to fall in love along the way.
i go to war for you (6k, Mature)

Harry refuses to submit to any alpha, and the alpha Draco, raised to be king, his throne destroyed by Voldemort, must now beg the favour of Gryffindor's omega king. What happens when Harry goes into heat the night before their wedding?
Madness in the Manor (5k, Teen)
When Narcissa Malfoy uses a spirit board, she unleashes a negative haunting in the Manor. Fortunately, the London Paranormal Research Team, headed by Harry Potter, is here to save the day.
Measure of a Minister (3k, Teen)
Draco isn't happy about being the official Minister for Magic photographer when the Minister for Magic is Harry Potter.
~ The measure of a minister is taken not when times are easy, but when times are lean; first in opposition does a man’s true character shine through.
Near Future (21k, Mature)
Draco thinks his life is going pretty badly, until Potter gets him a job at the Department of Mysteries. It then continues to go badly, except now, Potter is around. The only thing that could make matters worse is if a prophecy was made about the two of them. Which, of course, it is.
Nobody’s Business (33k, Explicit)
Harry and Draco are working in the Love Chamber. Due to a mishap, the two of them end up bonded. Forbidden from revealing what happened due to the nature of their jobs, they are forced to pretend they are just so into one another that they can't let the other out of their sight.
Of Kneazles and Men (15k, General)
When Draco's pet Kneazle keeps luring strange men back to the house, it's obvious to Draco that he needs professional help. The problem is, the best man for the job is none other than Harry Potter. Draco reluctantly gives in and contacts Harry, but can The Boy Who Lived help? More to the point, will he want to? Silly question - of course, he does!
On Hope & Healing (15k, Explicit)
Harry and Draco haven't seen each other in seven years, since Draco left the Aurors—and Harry—behind. So Harry can't help but be surprised when he starts working as a Healer at St Mungo's and runs into Draco. Draco—still just as gorgeous and talented—is neither a fellow Healer, or a patient. He's a cleaner, and always around. Can they put aside their differences, or are they doomed to repeat the same mistakes again?
Please Contact the COCK Department (4k, Explicit)
Harry might have wanked off in the Ministry loo while fantasizing about Malfoy wearing a particular pair of pants, but no one could prove it. Least of all Malfoy.
Purrfect Pair (10k, Teen)
Harry owns a cat/animal shelter and rescue that cares for cats, dogs, ferrets, rodents and the occasional reptile! Hoping to gain a following on Instagram in order to help get more of his animals into their furever homes, Harry starts to replicate the Instagram videos of Insta sensation and Cat Dad Draco Malfoy and his Maine Coon Leo. Draco finds out that Harry has started to copy his videos and reaches out to see if he can help the man and his rescue animals become an internet sensation.
Safe As Houses (25k, Teen)
After five years abroad, Harry’s thrilled to be home and working at the most prestigious ward-building firm in Britain. But everything gets turned upside down when he's assigned to work for Draco Malfoy—who somehow grew up to be just the sort of sexy bastard Harry goes for. As if that isn’t enough, Malfoy seems strangely on edge, his wards are a mess, and Harry keeps feeling like he’s being watched in the garden. It’s going to take all of Harry’s ward-crafting skills—and self-restraint—to help Malfoy feel safe in his own home again.
Saviour of the Seas (45k, Explicit)
For the 10th Anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, the Ministry of Magic has chosen to celebrate with a cruise to Norway to view the Northern Lights aboard the Savior of the Seas. Did they actually think Harry would want a bloody cruise ship named after him?
The moment he's aboard the ship Harry runs into Draco Malfoy who can’t believe that Harry would think someone might’ve invited him there. “I’m the help, Potter.” But what work could Draco possibly be doing, and why is he refusing to tell Harry about it?
Harry fills his time onboard with friends, excursions, and plenty of late nights sitting at The Serpent’s Head to watch Christophe, his newfound friend and an exquisite bartender, work. Something simmers between them, but as Harry keeps running into Draco, he feels something building there, too - something that could be worth ending his years on the road and coming home for good. What's the Boy Who Lived to do?
A story about second (and third) chances.
Shore to Shore (19k, Explicit)
Harry loves his job as a Herbologist's assistant. He gets to travel around the world, collecting specimens for Neville, but he hasn't had a holiday in two years. Harry has one little job left to do, and then he can finally relax. In order to collect the poisonous sea-ivy Neville desperately needs, Harry just has to blow bubbles into the sea with a weird straw Luna gave him. What's the worst that can happen?
Six Wishes and a Kiss (32k, Explicit)
Draco's task this year: fulfil Harry Potter's long overdue Christmas wishes, made when he was a child. The complications: a) Potter is now 24 years old; b) Draco has a highly inconvenient and sadly unrequited crush on him; c) Draco isn't expecting his heart to hurt so much when he glimpses a memory of a seven-year-old Potter sleeping in a cupboard under the stairs.
Study in Synchronicity (38k, Mature)
After being granted an official pardon, Draco leaves behind his life to traipse around the world, living a perpetual hot girl summer. He finally makes a home for himself in the East and all is well, or so he thinks. Ten years later, he gets summoned back to Wixen London to fulfill the clauses of his mother's last will and testament. Hi-jinx ensues.
A story of redemption and coincidences, where Draco chances upon a rather-dead!Ginny, who wrenches him out of his self-imposed isolation, thus leading him to a rather-suspicious!Harry, who seems to be handling his own inner grief with much grace and gusto. They learn a thing or two about themselves and each other.
Take a Chance on Me (36k, Explicit)
There's a DJ on RareFM with a secret.
Or: the one with all the ABBA in it.
The Cat's Britches (26k, Explicit)
Harry is a leather worker. Draco sells leather clothing. A match made in heaven, right? Well, maybe. But only if personal prejudices and proclivities don’t get in the way.
The Curse Slayer (37k, Mature)
Harry Potter is the first and only Curse Breaker in the world capable of killing Curse Demons, which are condensed forms of Dark Magic that manifest as monsters. Because of this, he is called the Curse Slayer. On his first night back in England after eight months away, Harry finds himself reunited with Draco Malfoy, who is now trapped in Malfoy Manor as a result of an ancient curse placed on the last heir of the family.
The Fakes on the Walls (10k, Teen)
Getting reassigned to lead the Fakes and Forgeries task force was supposed to be an easy assignment for Harry — mostly paperwork and studying images behind a desk. Harry is especially thrilled with the added perk of working with Draco Malfoy, renowned art forger and (reluctant) Ministry of Magic consultant.
But when fakes are discovered just three weeks before the opening of Wizarding Britain’s first art museum, Harry and Draco are suddenly thrust into the spotlight…
The Keepers (4k, Teen)
In the Rare Books Department of the Ministry of Magic, Draco tends to unique texts and, on occasion, a certain Unspeakable.
the undone and the divine (42k, Mature)
Draco never expected to live without Potter. There is something there, something between them that pulls tight and brings them closer again, every time they might lose each other. Call it fate, if you want, but it always felt like a promise to him.
Draco never expected to live without Potter, but he also never expected to be this scared of him. He never expected Potter to change, to grow fangs and snarl, not at him.
It's not surprising, he supposes: throw someone into darkness often enough and eventually, they'll carry some of it back to you.
The Virtues of Hygiene and the Binary of Labour (15k, Explicit)
Draco does what he always does every autumn; packs his bag and follows a path back home. This time, Potter just happens to travel the same roads.
It never is about the destination.
The Wonderous Adventures of Teddy Lewis (9k, Mature)
Harry Potter had never expected he would become an author. Draco Malfoy had never expected he would live like a muggle. Sometimes things change, sometimes the unexpected happens. But some things never change. And Harry should just accept that his obsession with Draco Malfoy is one of them.
The Work of Our Life (65k, Mature)
Something is wrong with Hogwarts. Harry, caretaker of the castle for the last five years, needs to find out what before it's too late. But first, he needs to deal with the new tapestry restorer hired at the start of the school year.
This Ain't the Garden of Eden (131k, Explicit)
In 2020, Hit Wizard Harry is starting to enjoy his life. He’s divorced, and no longer Head Auror. His biggest project these days is trying to remodel 12 Grimmauld Place for him and the kids.
Draco Malfoy is recovering from his wife’s death. But is happy with his Ministry position as Temporary Head of the Department of Intoxicating Substances, and with his son who he adores.
This all changes quickly when Minister Shacklebolt decides not to run for another term. The assumption is that 'all is well' in the British Magical world, and that Hermione Granger-Weasley will easily be voted in as the next Minister for Magic. However, Draco knows better. He knows she has a strong competitor who is wooing those who live in Knockturn. And if he wins, the Ministry, and all that has been accomplished the previous twenty odd years, will be destroyed.
this is not my design (8k, General)
One of the benefits of working for the Department of Forensics is that you LITERALLY cannot talk about it.
Tomorrow (39k, Explicit)
In an unfortunate twist of fate, Harry Potter is dying. Not keen to leave the world without having his story told, he commissions the successful writer, Draco Malfoy, to write his biography.
Twenty Minutes Till Free Fall (5k, Teen)
A night of rain. A bare-boned safe house. A clandestine meeting between a spy and his case officer. Being with Harry is like falling through the air—and Draco isn't sure he wants to stop.
Unrestrained (10k, General)
A story about two wizards breaking free from their shackles post-war and finding each other along the way—with a few bumps and a dead body, of course, because when is it ever so easy?
Weapon of Choice (26k, Teen)
Sir Malfoy is in need of a sword. The blacksmith isn’t supposed to ask why.
What Shall Not Be Unearthed (49k, Explicit)
At the northernmost point of Shetland, surrounded by pointed cliffs, towers the Ootsta Lighthouse on a small isle in the middle of the open sea. Little does Harry know that he's not the only new lighthouse keeper. Draco Malfoy is as obnoxious as he always was, with his posh tone of voice and his luxury yacht jumpers. Harry tries his best to avoid the git—who knows what he's up to anyway?
While working hard on keeping the remote island and his mental health in good condition, Harry tries to fight against increasingly conflicted opinions about Malfoy. He doesn't like to think about the weirdly tangible dreams that he keeps having and especially the fact that Draco keeps appearing naked in them.
The answers, a confusion of denied attractions and macabre horror, lie buried in a riptide of emotions, dormant in the deep.
Written Proof (34k, Explicit)
Draco's move home to Wiltshire after more than a decade is anything but easy. He's given up an illustrious career in journalism to pursue poetry, his mother's health is declining, and it seems that the War isn't quite as 'in the past' as Draco assumed. Luckily, he's found a supportive, if unconventional, community and a local bakery to haunt that sells the most divine macarons. Too bad Harry Bloody Potter has to storm in and shake everything up, per usual.
Harry is content with his life. Really, he is. Sure, the life of an ex-professional athlete is a bit slow, but that's what he'd wanted when he retired from Quidditch to run his own bakery. Now, he gets to spend his days doing something that he loves in the company of his family and friends. He's fine to let one day bleed placidly into the next, until Draco Malfoy turns up at his bakery, causes a scene about his pastries, and is maybe, probably, definitely up to something.
This is a story about two people boldly chasing their happiness in spite of their fears, overcoming the chokehold of a difficult past, and learning how to communicate by whatever means necessary, be it rhymes or recipes.
you bring me home (35k, Explicit)
Harry is happy. He has his cat cafe and his hobbies. He has his friends, and Dolly Parton, and a shirt with a cowboy frog on it. It’s all a man needs, really.
He doesn’t need to obsess over a magic-less, anxious Draco Malfoy coming into his cafe after disappearing from the wizarding world years ago. He doesn’t. Not even if the cats like Malfoy. Not even if Malfoy is soft, and funny, and a little bit neurotic. No matter how much he wants to obsess.
PODFIC
(not anyone) you're the one (1.5 hours, General)
The one where Draco and Harry get together, fall apart, grow up and then find their way back to each other.
Little Red Courgette (4 Hours, Teen)
When this season's purple courgettes are woefully thin, Draco Malfoy thinks it amounts to small beans. Next thing he knows, the Department of Standards is over-run with leeks, Brussels sprouts all sorts of legislative difficulties, and somebody appears to have put a roquette under Harry Potter. Can Draco seize a marrow victory? Or will his plans for peas be squashed?
All along, Kingsley Shacklebolt finds himself pining for the good old days, when, instead of governing, all you had to worry about were Dark Lords and imminent death.

series summary: A 16 year old from Harlem finds herself ensnared in a tangle of problems when she literally falls into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the object of her absolute affection.
chapter summary: [Y/n] [L/n] usually likes to mind her own business. Especially after retrieving her favorite movies. But today, she took a different path, that may have changed her entire universe.
———
OUR UNIVERSE - PRESENT DAY NYC
[Y/n] [L/n] was a frequent visitor of Mel’s Comics, a ragtag little comic book shop in the heart of Harlem, New York.
Just a skip and a hop from her Grandmother’s apartment, it was one of the only places [Y/n] felt at home, it was a place she could feel herself, a place where expectation melted away like ice cream on warm summer’s day. It was her sanctuary.
And so, it was no surprise that Mel’s was also her supplier of all her Marvel needs. They kept their racks fully stocked, and it was the only comic book store she could find that housed the full collection of rentable Marvel Cinematic Universe content.
Of course, the MCU movies rarely lined the shelves with how often [Y/n] made it her mission to rent them to the very last second. Today was no different.
A mish-mash of movie phases were squished in her arms as she approached the checkout counter. The man running the counter, Jeremy, a lanky man in his thirties, with bleach-blonde hair and wire-rimmed spectacles, was a close friend of the young teenager.
Although they often only talked when [Y/n] spent her time occupying the peeling walls of Mel’s Comics, they got along splendidly.
Jeremy tilted his glasses away from his nose, and offered the young girl a kind smile. “Got another haul today, [N/n]?”
[Y/n] gave him a wide grin, nodding her head as she lugged the DVD’s onto the countertop.
Jeremy let out a dry laugh. “Geez, [Y/n], how many times are you going to watch these things? You know you can buy them, right?”
[Y/n] waved her hand dismissively. “Psh. Why take away the magic of coming here to rent them every week?”
Jeremy hummed, and continued to ring up the movies, and tapped away at his computer. [Y/n]’s name was always the first to pull up in the rental system, as she was oftentimes the only one to consistently rent the movies.
“Alrighty. With the family and friends discount, that’ll be-“
“Ten fifty.” [Y/n] finished, pulling out a wad of cash from her front jean pocket. Jeremy pulled the green paper out of her hands and counted it out, removing a few dollars from the cash register and handing it to [Y/n].
“I got my backpack today, so I think I can pass on the bag.” [Y/n] informed, and Jeremy nodded, pushing the stack of movies towards her. She pulled the backpack off her back, and shuffled the plastic containers into the large pocket of her bag, and zipped it closed. “Thanks, Jer!”
“Sure thing. And be careful out there, kid. It’s a bit icy today.”
[Y/n] laughed. “When am I not careful?” She pushed open the glass door, a small bell chiming as she exited the tiny shop. She stood outside for a moment, sucking in a deep breath of autumn air.
Ah, that fresh, tangy, New York air.
[Y/n]’s marvel obsession stretched far beyond her frequent stops at Mel’s, or reading the latest comic addition. Her obsession fueled her entire childhood, and the characters of the marvel universe acted as compensation for the many struggles she had met early on in life.
At only age 10, her father passed away from a severe case of pneumonia. He was a talented criminal investigator, who caught the sickness unexpectedly.
When [Y/n] was very little, she wanted to follow in her fathers footsteps, and had little interest in make-believe heroes. Why would she? Her father was already a real life hero in her eyes.
But life often has other plans. When her father died, her hope of real life heroes died with him. She began to doubt the goodness of the world, and she had nobody to run to.
With her mother out of the picture, all she had left was her grandmother, who was as feisty as they came. She could take care of herself, so she had no problem declaring guardianship over young [Y/n].
When she finally began to piece her life back together, she became fixated on the marvel universe. It offered an escape, a new outlook. A world where heroes really did exist. A world, where [Y/n] could finally see good again.
Clearing her head, she began to make her trek back home. Jeremy was right, the ground had a thin layer of cracked ice all over it, coating the side-walk in a death-trap of colder months.
Taking extra caution to avoid these icy patches, she slowed to a crawl, weaving her way around tourists, and everyday commuters.
She pulled her phone out from her pocket, earbuds already connected by the plug, and unlocked it. She scrolled through her music, careful not to become too absorbed in the screen of her phone.
Then, like a bolt of lightning shooting down the sidewalk, [Y/n] felt herself being shoved to the side by a shadowy figure. Her phone went flying to the ground, and she hit the brick wall of one the storefronts beside her.
Annoyance bubbling inside her, she quickly regained her composure. “Hey! Watch it!” She barked, but the figure was already booking it down the sidewalk. Her nose crinkled, and she bent down to retrieve her cracked phone.
Great.
When she stood back up, she noticed the figure disappearing into an alleyway, and she could feel curiosity begin to grow inside her.
Before she could stop herself, her feet began to carry her in their wake, and she slipped into the same alley. Finding it empty, save for a trash bin and a few empty beer cans, she became determined to locate the mysterious stranger.
Her eyes traced the walls of the alleyway, before landing on a ladder, connected to the fire-escape of the building to her right. It lead right up to the roof, and as she tilted her head upwards, she could see the figure slink out of view above her.
With a quick once over of her surroundings, she followed suit, cold hands gripping the rusted metal bars of the ladder, and she hoisted herself up, quickly ascending the tall height of the building.
With a quick glance down, which frightened her beyond what she could ever imagine, she continued her way up, slightly out of breath once she reached the top.
There was nothing but silence at the top of the building, besides the quiet whirring of the air conditioning units that supplied cool air to the apartments below.
Ahead of her, the figure, dawning all black clothing with a saggy hood pulled over their head, climbed the scaffolding-like ladder of a crane position just a few meters from the other side of the building.
“What the hell are they doing?” [Y/n] muttered under her breath, already making her way towards the crane. Some part of her brain was screaming “Stop!” At the top of it’s lungs, only the worst possibilities of what this person could possibly do at the top of a crane, 7 stories up, came to [Y/n]’s mind.
And so, reluctantly, her brain allowed her to give chase. She neared the crane, which she would have to make a bit of a jump for, and she could feel her heart beating out of her chest.
Inside her head, a war broke out.
I’m going to die. What am I doing? I need to go back.
But what if they’re going to jump? What if they’re going to sabotage the crane? What if somebody gets hurt, and you could have prevented it?
What if I get hurt?
What if you do, but you save a life?
The ever persistent vigilante inside her won the battle. She wrapped her fingers around the bars, leaning over the edge of the building, and pulling herself over with a heave and a sharp beat of her heart. She could swear she was falling to her death, when she realized she had made it safely onto the oddly designed ladder to the top.
She picked up her pace, clawing her way up the yellow colored crane, just a few paces behind the mysterious person.
Wanting to stop them before they hurt themself, or caused any damage, she decided to call out for them.
“Hey! Wait!”
They turned only for a moment at her words, but their face was hidden beneath a mask pulled up over their nose, but their eyes bore a striking resemblance to [Y/n]’s. They hesitated for only a second, before speeding towards the top, and disappearing over the edge.
Shit!
Biting down on her lower lip in frustration, she began to climb her way further up the crane, until her shivering body clawed itself onto the flattened area above. The figure was walking precariously down the narrow bridge of the crane, and [Y/n] clung to the bars of the bridge.
“Hey! What are you doing?” She called, voice quaking.
The figure did not turn this time, and only looked down at their wrist, as if checking the time.
“Oh God.” She whispered. She sucked in a breath, and pushed herself away from the only thing holding her high above the ground. She stood up. “Please, get down from here, you’re gonna get hurt.”
They turned around at this, and their eyes widened at [Y/n]. She was shaking like a leaf. Legs splayed out, trying to maximize the amount of balance she had. Her arms reached out to her sides to steady her. The person eyed her, and they seemed to want to pull forward and comfort the young girl, but instead, they squeezed their eyes shut.
The bars creaked under [Y/n]’s weight, and she could feel herself growing more and more light-headed.
“No. No, you need to get down. Please. It’s dangerous.” Their voice was low, but rang with power.
“Come on, please. You could fall.”
They held a hand out, as if trying to stop [Y/n] from talking. “Kid, you don’t know what you’re doing. You need to turn around, and get back down to safety.”
[Y/n] shook her head. “Not without you.”
“Kid, you’re just going to get yourself hurt.”
“Oh.” [Y/n] held back a sour chuckle. “That’s rich, considering you’re the one who came up here in the first place.”
They stood there for a moment, before checking their wrist again. [Y/n] noticed the clean, square surface attached to their wrist, and noted it was probably some sort of smart watch.
“I don’t have much time.” Their eyes didn’t leave the watch. A loud crack made their eyes snap upwards, paired with the startled scream leaving [Y/n]’s mouth.
The crane’s bars that were propping her up gave out, and now, clinging desperately to the rusted metal, she was hanging there, only a slip away from death.
For a moment, time stopped for the black-clad stranger. They watched as [Y/n] eyes shut in terror, and whimpers of fear escaped her lips. They felt themself being tugged towards her, wanting desperately to save them. But the clock was ticking.
They let out a struggled breath, and balanced their weight on the bars, shuffling back to where [Y/n] clung for dear life. They bent down to her level and their voice softened.
“Hey. Hey, open your eyes, okay? Take a deep breath for me.” [Y/n]’s body was quivering, but she complied, cracking open her eyes and letting the light flood in.
They tilted their head. “Look at me, okay?”
[Y/n] did as told, but still, fear, and confusion flooded her brain. Reaching a hand up to their face, they removed their mask, pulling it down under their chin.
What [Y/n] saw might have killed her right then and there, if it weren’t for the adrenaline already coursing through her veins.
It was her. Her face, on the stranger’s. Yes, older, and more sodden, but it was hers. A scar ran deeply over the corner of her lip, and bags clung to her eyes, but [Y/n] would know herself. And this was her.
Eyes wide, [Y/n]’s mind struggled desperately to wrap itself around this. Somebody who looked like her? Doppelgänger? Coincidence?
No. [Y/n] knew that there was no such thing as coincidence. Not like this, anyway.
Her identical, as [Y/n] mentally decided upon calling her, furrowed her brows in concern and placed her gloves hands over [Y/n]’s.
[Y/n]’s lips parted. “Who are you?” She managed.
“You shouldn’t have followed me. You let curiosity get the best of you.” She looked away. “I know how that is.”
[Y/n] shook her head. “I’m scared.”
“I’m running out of time, okay? You need to take my hand.”
“I can’t- I can’t.”
[Y/n] watched as her eyes narrowed. “I am on a mission, okay? A mission I cannot miss. I have ten seconds to get you down, and if you don’t take my hand, I’m going to leave you here.”
This frightened [Y/n] more, and the sound of snapping metal filled her ears. She could feel all her emotions building like a waterfall inside her, and tears began to sprout in her eyes. Her doppelgänger backed away after a few seconds.
With a tight-lipped frown, she said, “I have to go. I’m sorry.”
[Y/n]’s eyes opened, and she watched as she went back to her perch at the edge of the crane. Fear began to fill [Y/n]’s core, and she let out any sound that came to her.
[Y/n]’s screams filled her identical’s ears, and she tried her best to block it out. The seconds ticked away, before she tore her gaze off her stopwatch as her alarm sounded. Sparks filled the air below, turning everything a vibrant green color. They zapped and cracked like electricity, before they snapped apart to reveal a glowing portal, hovering above the ground, just below where [Y/n]’s identical stood.
It was dark on the other side, the sound of pattering rain present, mixed in with the unstable sound of crackling. She looked over her shoulder at [Y/n] who pleaded for mercy. Her right hand gave way as the bar snapped. Piercing screams filled the air and she began crying out for help.
[Y/n]’s identical was not as callous as she presented herself to be. She was not emotionless, as many of her colleagues in her world saw her as. She had a heart. She could feel pain, just as anyone could.
And the screams that her younger double was making broke her to the bone. She could stand it no longer, and with a harsh breath inward, and a curse under her breath, she lifted her hands, her power flowing through her finger tips.
She latched onto the portal through her energy, and she threw it towards [Y/n], whose grip was weakening, and she hastily positioned it beneath her flailing body.
With one last, “Fuck my life,” the powerful [Y/n] counterpart sealed the deal, as [Y/n] lost her hold and fell backwards, directly into the portal.
She watched as it sealed behind her, her alarm ringing from her watch
Damn. Working with the multiverse is hard.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
April 29th -Electra
Electra Natchios had been the daughter of a wealthy Greek businessman. Following traumatic events in her childhood, Electra began private lessons in self defense and martial arts.  She excelled as a student of the martial arts to an extent that bordered on the super human.  Although she mastered many weapons, Electra was particularly drawn to a pair of sai knives; blades that would ultimately become her signature weapon of choice.
When Elektra was an older teen, her father was appointed the Greek ambassador to the United States.  Electra traveled with her father to the states and enrolled in Columbia University where she met and began dating her classmate, Matt Murdock.  The two were kindred spirits and Electra and Matt fell very much in love.
Not long thereafter, both Elektra and her father were kidnapped by terrorists. Matt was in the early stage of his career as the costumed crimefighter, Daredevil, and he attempted a rescue.  Things went wrong and, though Electra was saved and the terrorists defeated, Electra’s father was killed.  It was a devastating blow for Electra that caused her to lose faith in justice and the balance between right a wrong.  She left Matt and traveled to locations across Asia to further hone her skills in the martial arts.  She ended up a student of the blind master, Stick, the same sensei who had trained Matt Murdock.  Stick sensed the burgeoning darkness and desire for vengeance in Electra; he feared that she was venturing down a path toward evil.  Stick did his best to steer Electra from this path but it was to no avail and Electra ended up falling in with the league of assassins known as The Hand.
Electra quickly became an elite assassin with The Hand and the organization sent her on numerous sanctions all over the globe.  Due to her skill and proficiency, The Hand indulged Electra’s refusal to kill innocents or civilians and she was only dispatched to assassinate criminals, gangster and drug lords.
One such assignment found her returning to New York and crossing paths with Daredevil.  Daredevil prevailed in preventing Electra from killing her criminal target.  Failure for The Hand was a death sentence and Electra and Daredevil found themselves fighting side by side in repelling The Hand ninja sent to kill her.  The pair succeeded and Electra came to discover Daredevil was actually her past love, Matt Murdock.
Now free from The Hand, Electra remained in New York and became the top enforcer and assassin for the crime boss, Wilson ‘The Kingpin’ Fisk.  With her aide, Kingpin was able to more fully consolidate power in the criminal underground.
he Kingpin’s operation became involved in a contentious lawsuit and Kingpin dispatched Electra to kill one of the attorneys involved in the case, Franklin ‘Foggy’ Nelson.  Foggy was Matt Murdock’s longtime friend and law partner and when he recognized Electra as Matt’s former girlfriend she was unable to kill him.  For her failure to take out Nelson, Kingpin sent the assassin Bullseye to take out Electra.  Bullseye’s skill and savagery proved too much for Electra and she was mortally wounded.  Elektra managed to crawl to Matt’s apartment building before dying in his arms as Bullseye watched from a distance.
Members of The Hand stole Electra’s body and attempted to resurrect her. Daredevil, with the assistance of Stone, a member of Stick's order, intervened.  They defeating The Hand ninja and Daredevil ended up trying to revive Elektra himself. Although his attempt failed, it did have the effect of purifying Elektra's soul. Elektra's body subsequently disappeared, as did Stone.
It was later revealed that Stone had used the remained of his life essence to revive Electra.  She would go on to have a number of adventures.  She briefly partnered up with the Mutant hero, Wolverine, and later became a covert operative for SHIELD.
At some point later, Electra was abducted by Skrull agents and replaced with a Super Skrull imposter.  This imposter took over the Hand clan in Japan but was later killed in combat against The Avengers.  The true Electra resurfaced following The Skrull’s failed Secret Invasion.  She would go on to have further adventures, becoming a member of The Heroes for Hire as well as a new iteration of The Thunderbolts squad.  More recently, Electra has fashioned a costume reminiscent of that worn by Daredevil, which she has used to protect the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood.
A version of Electra appeared in the Fox Films movies, Daredevil and Electra where the character was portrayed by actress Jennifer Garner; another version appeared in the Netflix series Daredevil and The Defenders, portrayed by actress Elodie Yung.  The deadly heroine first appeared in the pages of Daredevil Vol. 1 #168 (1981).

What your favorite Member of the Bat Boys Says about you: WILD ACCUSATION/ROAST EDITION.
(also disclaimer, this is meant to be a joke. If you send hate I'll only be mildly amused and then contemplate whether to share your hate or delete it based on how much traction I think it'll earn me. I understand these are a lot of y'all's comfort characters but considering the fact no one throws more hatred and criticism against these characters than the fans themselves. I figured why not join in.)
Dick Grayson
You are either inconceivably horny on main for this man, usually stemming from a childhood attraction to him from Young Justice, Teen Titans if you're old, or the Batman and Robin movie if you're even older, and also gay.
Or you're a puritanical hypercritic who wants to burn down DC Comics if they have one more character comments on his ass in a way that would make Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame call you an extremist. AND you're also horny as fuck for him on the DL.
You call yourself the mom friend and secretly hope everyone else will call you the mom friend, but the only person whose life is falling apart worse than yours is Dick Grayson under Devin Grayson's penmanship.
You somehow find a way to hate and nit pick every detail of a comic of one of the most consistently written characters in DC (and that's saying something) and I don't know whether to compliment you or look mildly aghast.
It applies to all the bat boys but how's your relationship with your father? Answer the question. I said answer. The question.
Jason Todd
I have yet to meet a single person who says Jason Todd is their favorite Bat Boy and they weren't some combination of 1. LGBTQIA+, 2. Below the age of 30, or 3. currently dealing with some form of mental trauma/illness.
I understand that a lot of y'all are bitter and upset over the fact Jason had the setup to be the perfect villain to Batman, one who could even outpace the joker. But hearing y'all complain about his characterization every. single. time Jason even makes so much as a cameo is like watching someone trying to mop the Titanic.
Oh, you hate Scott Lobdell? That's a very agreeable opinion nowadays considering all that he's done. By the way, there's a rather large collection of JayRoy and Jaytimas reblogs on your Tumblr dash, can you tell me what that's all about?
As hypocritical as it is for me, a Jason fan with Jason as their profile picture, if someone doesn't tell you that they think Jason Todd is a genuinely awful person after they tell you Jason Todd is their favorite, that's not a red flag, that's literally the most direct metaphor for someone pointing a gun at your face and telling you to run.
Tim Drake
How's the victim complex my friend? No seriously, as much as I love Tim all of the bad things that have happened to him as Robin happened because he fucked around with being Robin and found out that his family was killed because of it.
You either are a brand new infant to the fandom because Tim came out of the closet back in August (although we've done been known for literally decades now) or you've been with this fandom so long that it's self cannibalism and toxicity completely doesn't phase you anymore.
I'd argue that Tim fans are the least toxic of all the fans of the Bat Boys only because DC Comics, up until recently, kind of hasn't touched Tim all that much, so people have kind of shoved him to the wayside.
That being said, the literal shipping wars this literal fuckboy of a vigilante whom everyone swears is their small uwu precious string bean has caused is on par with the ALTA/LOK/V*ltr*n Fandoms.
Damian Wayne
So you hate how people write Damian and you have a literal fight response anytime anyone criticizes Damian because he's a minor? Tell me how's your favorite Damirae/Damijon fanfiction? Answer the god damned question.
I'll give Damian fans their credit because at least 90-95% of them recognize that yes, Damian is a child, but he's one of the most horrific and abjectly abhorrent assholes to ever be written into comics (but that's also a large reason why you all like him)
To the 5-10% who think Damian is their perfect precious murder baby who has done nothing wrong, how does it feel to know you are objectively worse than even the Jason Todd Stans/Kinnies?
I haven't met anyone yet who is a Damian fan/someone who says Damian is their favorite who wasn't chaotic. And not the good kind of Chaotic.
I also have seen someone issue actual death threats to an artist over a characters skin tone exactly 3 times through fandom, for SU fans, for V*ltr*n, and for Damian Wayne.
Duke Thomas
I don't understand how you, a Duke Fan, have stuck with this fandom for so long considering I think he's appeared in like 2-3 canonical comic runs, but like good on you for making the most of it.
Understandably you all are the least problematic of the bunch because again I think there's maybe 2-3 comics where he's featured.
I guess my bigger concern is do you exist? If so would you like to be perceived as a Bat Family fan? Are you sure? Are you certain?

Analyzing the 5 plays in this drama club poster .From the bts pics of stranger things 4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So... some of ya’ll know I'm going through the st s4 films given to us by the official st twitter + the films reffed in the show itself or mentioned by the Duffers in interviews .
So I decided to look at the plays mentioned here. Because even if we don't see the monologues in the show directly - the Duffers wouldn't name drop anything unless it inspired them in some way. Similar to films name dropped in the show. Tw : for some dark themes .
This is just a quick little analysis I decided to do since we probably won't get any new st content today (3/22). Nothing too deep. Just mentioning things that caught my interest especially cause these plays have a lot of narrative connections to the st s4 movies I've been watching.
Invitation to a march (Authur laurents)
Reminds me of the stancy/jancy love triangle. "A young woman is having second thoughts about doing the right thing and marrying a respectable , rich, kind, young man with good prospects.By way of a prewedding diversion, this woman becomes interested in the passionate but poor and entirely unsuitable son of a local landlord.Basically, the plot concerns the efforts of Norma Brown to choose between a conventional fiance who "puts her to sleep" but is wealthy (like what her own mother did) or go for this new-poor guy. The play is principally interested in how this youthful love triangle affects the three mothers involved (whether the kids like it or not)
12th night (Shakespeare)
 - viola (el) wrongly assumes a family member (hopper) is dead. She dresses up as a man named 'cesario'. A girl named Olivia falls for 'cesario' (violet dressed as a man). "Finally, when 'Cesario' and Sebastian (violet's twin brother: assumed to have drowned - Will) appear in the presence of Olivia there is more wonder and confusion at their physical similarity. Taking Sebastian for 'Cesario', Olivia asks him to marry her, and they are secretly married in a church. Cough if Olivia is 'straight' cause she fell for Viola (as a doppleganger dressed like her twin brother).Mike being into el who multiple characters in s1 said looked like a boy and specifically like Will is...suspish and a hint he's not straight lol. just like Olivia they're both into guys . plus, this play just has a butt load of love triangles (ugh i hated that aspect). There was also romantically coded letters (which was in the s4 films) . One character is also thrown into an insane asylum and framed as 'insane'.'Pretending that Malvolio is insane, they lock him up in a dark chamber. Feste visits him to mock his insanity'. We all know the psych hospital will be narratively important- talked about it more here.
The seagull (Anton Chekhov-russian)
similar to how I believed s4 will show m*#even already broken up since the months between s3-4 : act 3 (s3) ends with Nina begging for one last chance to be with Trigorin before he leaves/moves away. They kiss and make plans to meet again in Moscow. And in act 4 there's a timeskip where it shows they've been broken up for a long time between acts- and its established they never actually loved eachother. Do i even have to spell out why this parallels the m*#even ending in s3? There is also a play within the play (this is common in a lot of the st films- they have plays- or a story within a story- which illustrate certain themes or emotions of the characters within said film : blackswan, children of paradise, highschool musical, Rushmore, book of Henry, welcome to marwen, never ending story, romancing the stone, wet hot American summer, etc). The play is Konstantin's latest attempt at creating a dense symbolist work. There is also alot of love triangles in the seagull. TW!: for se#ual ab*se/su*cidal thoughts/ inc*st (here and in other play segments). The seagull motif reminds me a lot of Jonathan's rabbit story.Konstantin romantically into Nina shows up to give her a gull that he has shot. Nina is confused and horrified . Trigorin sees the gull that Konstantin has shot and muses to Nina on how he could use it as a subject for a short story: "The plot for the short story: a young girl lives all her life on the shore of a lake. She loves the lake, like a gull, and she's happy and free, like a gull. But a man arrives by chance, and when he sees her, he destroys her, out of sheer boredom. Like this gull."  This immediately reminded me of jon's rabbit story and some of the movies on the s4 list . Like in forrest gump- Jenny (who is poor) was se*ually ab*sed as a very young girl by her father. As a child she runs away into a field-away from her alcoholic father yelling at her -there she prays that she can "be a bird so I can fly far far away" .
Jenny as an adult struggles with this unresolved trauma- being with ab*sive partners, doing dr*gs, and having su*cidal thoughts . She as an adult when contemplating su*icide, jokes 'you think i can fly like a bird ?' while looking down at a bridge.God-i'm worried about jonathan (Jenny was also a musician sort of like jon). In another s4 movie example ' mystic river ' :(in the 80s) a preteen baseball playing boy is r*ped by men in the woods. He later says he wishes he could become an undead monster to not feel the pain of that experience - cause quote " if I'm not human anymore maybe the pain will stop" (Will) . slightly off topic but he also has another personality, imagines a alternate word that dissappears when he turns his head. And as a less direct animal parallel to the play - the boy from the film also imagined his perpetrators as monsters and wolves to cope.In 'getout' the photographer character sees a dead deer in the woods and it represents a parent/his own childhood tra*ma relating to his past. similarly in 'prince of tides' the 2 siblings as kids were ra*ed by men. The older brother remembered it and the younger sibling developed DID (so didn't remember but she would draw wolves- as the perpetrators/villains in her picture stories she created . In the film they also had an ab*sive dad and were very poor. She also tried k*ling herself multiple times-but started to get better after remembering the source of her pain and trauma.  There is also the theme of multiple attempted su*cides in the play- and the play ends with yet another attempt- and the audience is left unaware of the artist's fate at the end of the play.
The tempest (Shakespeare)
Prospereo - (the perceived antagonist) is a wizard with monstrous looks, storm powers , and ability to create monster-dogs
He wants revenge on a man who tried ra*ing his family member & revenge on his other family member who wronged him years ago. I mean... pretty much my did theory. But in the end.Prospero decides to show his enemies the mercy that they did not show him twelve years earlier. He tells Ariel to bring the men to him, he will restore their sanity and then renounce magic forever.Prospero breaks the spell that the men are under .
Diary of a scoundrel (Alexander Ostrovsky-Russian)
-  I suppose this could loosely relate to Jonathan? Glumov, is a young man from an impoverished family lacking status seeking entrance into society's pampered class. A 19th-century Russian scoundrel must scheme his way out of his meager life in a small apartment -whatever it takes. He has a quick mind and some talent for seeing through the hypocrisies of people around him ( Jonathan does make a lot of social critiques about society). That gives him some advantages. A tale of one man's mission to finagle his way into upper-class society and find a cushy job. Set in 1874, this social comedy follows Glumov, a Russian youth who begins his ambitious ascent to social esteem. He progresses by wit, guile and rhetoric. Pitting one stupid person against another, he soon gains his ends. To reach these goals, Glumov will lie, flatter, and cater to the vanities of the wealthy. Unable to contain his disgust with his victims, Glumov decides to relieve his unvoiced satirical comments by recording his schemes in a diary. But he is tripped up by his uncle's wife, to whom he has made passionate love on his way to success. At the end of the play, his diary is stolen and his duplicity exposed, but he can nevertheless suceeds. The author is much more critical about the high society itself than about the main character, so the play keeps attracting generations of directors by opening possibilities for political criticism while also avoiding naming names of the current rulers. The play's aim was to overthrow bourgeois tradition and establish a class-conscious art called eccentricism giving a deliberately comic portrayal of reality.
I suppose I notice some possible commonalities-  besides s3 critiquing the wealthy/capitalism in comedic ways . jonathan since s1 has worried about his family's finances / had some resentment toward the rich . In some of the s4 movies ‘orphan’ & ‘ girl interrupted’ someone reads their diary out loud to get at them (in girl interrupted the winona character’s diary even had critiques of her new friends).  Alot of movies also have someone (usually a teen/young adult) making a documentary about their life -which could narratively replace said diary? A few movies have a poor guy adjusting to snobby rich social circles (or being poor and then getting money)- titanic, kingsmen, karate kid, the craft , godfather,  wardogs, into the spiderverse, flashdance, and many others . And movies like wardogs has a poor-young-character do shady things to finacially support his family . There’s also that whole uncle’s wife thing- which makes me uncomfortable for obvious reasons (but I’m just thinking of Lonnie’s creepy gf who was into him). A few movies had the guy’s step mom innappropriately hit on him- orange county & you got mail. And him trying to avoid her advances. Or...not to mention ... it may be a problematic coincidence /trope. But in enter the void -the guy who needs to finacially support his sibling/ does dr*gs -hooks up with his dr*g dealing friend’s married mom (who would give him money).  Or in gilbert grape- the poor teen-who has to finacially support his siblings/single mom-has his endgame relationship be a girl his own age. But before that he h*oked up with a married woman -who would give him money. Don’s plum -young film guy-propositioned by older female film director (for dream job). Not even mentioning the other films that have the guy hooking up with toxic older women (like ‘the graduate’). Or analyze this-where the therapist accuses him of having an Oedipus complex (not touching that one... but the guy in ‘enter the void’ a 100% had one). It’s possible those movies were just- inspo for s3?  A coincidence? Or s3 was foreshadowing for this in s4- but unlike s3 it will accurately be played as wrong  and a sign of Jonathan recreating past tra*ma caused by Lonnie (cough like the photos) /being desperate for money. And not played ‘comedically’ like how it mostly was in s3. But shown as self destructive  (for Jon) and immoral on the Woman’s end. Like... Billy and Jon are character foils. Both are older siblings into rock music, with ab*sive dads who shoved them into walls. Both lose it (and beat steve to a pulp when Steve accidentally triggers their daddy issues). In s3 it’s established womanizer Billy has mommy issues, than he tries ho*king up with someone his mom’s age, and the characters ref ‘back to the future ‘ and Steve incorrectly says it’s about “alex p keaton trying to bang his mom.” This could illustrate his subconscious issues with parental figures/adults cause of Lonnie’s  possible past se*ual ab*se . One film the friend even says to the guy “you don’t have friends!” guy b: i have friends! him:  no you have acquaintances! ADMIT IT! YOU’RE AFRAID OF MEN!I mean-Jonathan liked Nancy- but he initially hooked up with her cause he wanted to prove he didn’t have ‘trust issues’ from his dad. Also it’s prob a bit of a reach (and maybe a coincidence)- but the fact Murray in the same breath compares Steve (Nancy’s then bf) and Lonnie  ... uh... if you think too long about it ... it’s very sinister .  Especially because in s3: muray tells Joyce  that despite her wanting to be with a nice guy, she’s curious about “the brute” Hopper despite him reminding her of a past “bad relationship”(aka Lonnie). Like- yeah connect some dots.  Quite a few films (other than forrest gump) also have the character who (as a kid) was  r*ped by their dad/parent-  begin to do dr*gs/be pr*miscuous as adults since they never learned to properly cope with their trauma (’girl with the dragon tattoo’,  ‘black swan’, and ‘magnolia’). Unfortunately the whole relative doing such things to kid-relatives is in at least 30+ movies.
Personally, i would be MUCH happier if Jon had a age appropriate romance- and had not a single creepy adult near him. A few movies actually imply Lonnie gets yet another ‘new model’  replacing his gf in her 20s with a new gf- who is ‘barely l*gal” and just turned 18. so there’s that possibility as well- that she’s jonathan’s age.I just want Jonathan-happy &safe. GOD. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?

Hiya! I love Donna Troy and want to know more about her but don't know what comics to read or shows to watch. Can you recommend anything? Also, I too am team cyborg needs to be back on teen titans lol
Okay, so it is a bit difficult to reccomend Donna Troy stories because she tends to be a supporting character in others arcs but you probably don't want to hear me say "Just read ALL OF NEW TEEN TITANS" and you'll get it.
Here are my reccomendations for individual storylines.
#1 Who is Donna Troy? New Teen Titans #38
This is the chapter that made me love Donna, it is very different from most comic book story arcs it's heavily noir, and it tells a much more down to earth story. This is also the Donna Troy backstory I like to go with when interpreting her character. The other origin stories are all dumb, she is best when she's just some girl that Diana rescued from a fire and brought to live on Themyscra. Donna's entire character is she's just kind of normal... BUT THAT'S INTERESTING when everyone else in the friend group is insane.
#2 New Teen Titans 18-21 HOMECOMING
Tumblr media
Homecoming story arc, this demonstrates number one a lot of the personal flaws of Donna's character. Dick leaves Donna in charge of the Teen Titans and Donna is bad at it, the team falls apart under her leadership because she can't manage her personal life. At the same time this points out the flaws in Dick and Donna's relationship, Dick expects her to be perfect, Donna is not.
Tumblr media
Donna has what I call "Second oldest daughter syndrome" everyone expects her to be Diana, but she is not, she is not as strong and selfless as Diana but she tries to live up to that anyway (ironically, I think Cassie is actually a lot more like DIana in terms of self confidence she just has a meaner edge to her). Donna's biggest recurring story arc is how much other people's opinions on her influence her because she always tries way too hard to conform to other people's expectations and suffers herself because of it.
3. Darkstars 1-38
The Donna gets divorced and flies around in space with Kyle Rayner her rebound guy, Era. Once again an arc that focuses on the humanity of Donna Troy and the faults underneath her good girl image, her marriage falls apart (like wow the marriage of a 35 year old college professor and a 20 year old wasn't exactly healthy, surprise surprise), Donna became a mother way too early and she has no idea how to balance being a superhero and raising a kid. This arc also has like, the most horribly tragic consequences for Donna's character I don't want to spoil it.
2. Titans (1999) #1-50
If you want a Teen Titans run more focused on Roy Harper, and the fab five while throwing new members on the team this is for you. I say Donna is usually a supporting character but this series Donna and Roy are essentially the most major characters (there's a lot of Garth too!!!). Donna's story arc especially early on in the comic follows on what I find compelling about Donna's character in that she is so focused on living up to the Donna that everyone else sees she's completely lost sight of herself.
5. DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy
This is Donna's only solo, and it's basically a tribute not only to everything Donna Troy has been as a character so far, but also all of the connections she has made with other characters, including the Teen Titans, and the wondergirls. If you want a short comic about who Donna is, and what she means to the people around her this is the one! Though I would reccomend reading this last because otherwise you'll have no idea what past events they are referring to. This was also DC's attempt to just kind of move past Donna's weird backstory problem and focus back in on who Donna Troy is as a person, because Donna's greatest character trait is the connections she makes to the people around her.
Also the only adaptation Donna ever appears in is Titans the live action series on HBOmax where she is fantastic and I highly recommend her it adapts the best part of her character as baby sitter extraordinaire and her relationship with Dick. Without the backstory bullshit. If you want a taste of her character I would watch that first.

actors au, damijon;)
• “SUPERSONS” a tv series that has been going on for now three years
• started when Damian was 13, jon 11.
• the show was a spin-off after the superman show jon was in, and a batman show damian was in. Superman’s show is: Action Comics, Batman’s: Detective Comics
• the show was mainly focused on the supersons, so there weren’t a lot of others, but there were a lot of cameos and guest stars
• there are some movies in the little universe, theres Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Lantern, & etc, but those are origin movies for them or really important moments, shows go more in-depth.
• the first few episodes were on the action comics show, then a few on detective, the episodes received great reactions, so the company decided to bring back the two boys for a show
• their first season was based on the supersons comic, vol 1 & 2, rhe finale was the supersons of tomorrow ( no teen titans, jt was just the supersons + young justice, it only followed comic loosely )
• season 2 was supersons vol 3 + 1st half of challenge of the supersons
• s3: second half of challenge of the supersons + adventures of the supersons
• in their break between seasons, they ran into a problem. jon had a growth spurt
• damian hadn’t, so the show decided to do something else for season 4
• on the action comics show, they brought back jon and he went with grandfather, next episode, damian went onto the action comics show and watched rhe medsage jon left
• s4 was delayed a bit because fan reception wasn’t the best
• damian and robin were 16, jon was 14, but superboy was 17
• it was. complicated
• they didb’t follow the comics after this
• they had jon back on the show
• they showed a growth between them, they showed more sad moments between them, fights, and them being kids, something comic fans were ripped of
• in detective comics, dick had been shot in the head and alfred killed, fans got to see how damain was handling it all in the supersons
• we got to see the pain and anger there, and the show showers growth and redemption for Damian and did not ruin his character, and jon was there to help him
• until jon got a chance to go to the future, he went and did a trial run for a few episodes ( mainly a way for producers to see if fans liked this in a potential way to start a new show )
• we get to the midseason finale / Christmas break , where damian was about to kill kgbeast
• but then it went to black
• fans didn’t like jon in the future
• the show picked up after the break, jon standing in front of damian
• he stopped damian from killing him
• that episode got a lot of hits
• mainly because they got to see the boy wonder crying in superboys arms
• next episode; we see a conversation with jon and Saturn girl:
• “Damian isnt evil; he’s the best guy I know.”
• “but the future..”
• “the future isn’t set in stone! that’s what he told me! he believed in me and told me. we’re partners! if he can’t be here, than neither can i.”
• “but jon, you could be great here, you could be an amazing hero here!—…. *she gets cut off as another hero flies in, informing her that something happening in the timeline* jon.. if you really beleive damian isn’t evil, stop him before he goes and does something he WILL regret.”
• that’s how he knew to go stop damian from killing kgbeast
• if the legion of heroes got a good rating, damian would have killed kgbeast ( the writers and everyone were very happy that didn’t happen )
• their friendship was falling apart due to jons age up, but when jon stopped him, it got better
• the show was probably the best airing show besides young justice ( the core 4 own )
• D.C. was not alright, A.C. was alright, nightwing was good, red hood & outlaws was good, the Batgirl(s) was well received too
• fans had a problem with how many characters D.C. had, and how rhe arcs went all over the place
• during the supersons show, we can see so much development in the two characters, jon slowly maturing, and Damian’s edges being smoothed over
• and in one episode, we got some talia speaking to jon, just her making sure jon was a good friend
• we get to see a fallout with jon and his parents in A.C.
• they treat him differently now, but damian doesn’t, not after they got over everything, damian realized he was still jon
• BUT for the actors, Damian 17, Jon 16, they are on their 4th season, they started secretly dating
• they found themselves with people shipping them in real life, they didn’t mind the characters, but they were real
• abd they didn’t want that to effect them
• it made them even going out on a date uncomfortable
• press conferences are so chaotic, at first, jon was so shy, so damian could easily insult him
• but as time went on, the interviews & etc went smoothly, they playfully bickered, it was good
• jons voice used to crack during shooting, it made damian laugh so much
• they became really good friends over the years
• but the show was coming to an end soon since the kids are becoming older
• but luckily enough, it just so happens that A.C. and D.C. are too, batman and Superman are retiring, there needs to be a new Worlds Finest
• “The Supersons will return in World’s Finest.”
