Hello, Doctor. I can call you that, can't I? May I inquire as to why the Riverperson told us to "Beware The Man That Speaks In Hands?" Questionable scientific practices aside, you seem to be a rather harmless old bean.

I just got a shit ton of markers so here's a drawing of Chara from yet another au I have done nothing with lmao.
I do not have much experience with inking and coloring traditionally so it's not the best, but I think it came out pretty good all things considered! ^^

Spamton is a character centered around being understood while Jevil is a character centered around understanding.
Spamton wants to understood and wants you to get him. Spamton does not care if you come to an understanding as long as you get what he needs done. Spamton repeats himself as many times as necessary but never elaborates, at times actively objecting to.
Jevil does not care if he is understood as long as you have an understanding. He makes sure to explain why he thinks he’s free in a general sense and how you are trapped. Of course there’s not enough context as to why but he does not find you knowing why important that you just understand that it is.
I just think it’s interesting and that there adherence to these concepts is why they play off each other as rivals so well.

it’s interesting see the difference/continuation of morality from Undertale to Deltarune because while it could be read as almost oppostie i think it’s the same idea being explored with more nuance to it
in Undertale the morality is farily basic: “don’t kill” and “your actions have consequences”. if you kill a lot, people won’t like you. Undyne is unwilling to talk to you even after you spare her if you killed anyone and Sans calls you out for a high EXP and LV, the world becomes more bleak, there is no “good” ending, you are cut off from most of the lore and a lot of extra interaction. if you go as far as killing everyone, the entire game will turn into a desolate wasteland and you’ll get your ass kicked either by Sans or if you get past him then later get murdered by Chara. at the same time, the game is trying to trick you into killing despite presenting the option to spare: with the usual EXP and gold-grinding game mechanics and the “16 left” save point messages it’s theoretically possible for a random player to stumble upon a genocide route. the enemies are called “monsters” and even the first Toriel fight is set up in a way that’s rigged for you to kill her by accident. your choices matter. you reap what you sow. it’s all in your hands.
Deltarune on the other hand, does not even try to trick you into that anymore. it tells you clearly that you should spare people, going as far as framing Susie to be be wrong when she doesnt initially go along with that. you’ll quickly learn non-lethal and foolproof ways of sparing (while in UT it was on you, and with a lot of characters having different tricks to it) and the advantages of recutining people. in part that’s probably due to Toby Fox being aware that we the players are aware, and that the same trick won’t work twice, so why beat the dead horse?
yet at the same time, if you do something bad, definitely clearly aware of it this time, the consequences, at the first glance, aren’t that terrible - there’s only a minor difference in Ch1′s Dark World ending, and none to the scene with Kris. pushing Noelle into mass murder during Snowgrave is not something that’s remarked upon by either Ralsei or Susie (mosty due to them convinitenly not being present). Berdly’s very much dead (or in a coma in the real world), yet people just brush it off as him falling asleep. for now. and most importantly, no matter how you play, how many people you kill, how you treat your friends (or make Kris treat their friends), the ending does not change. your choices, seemingly, do not matter this time. it’s even spelled out.
and it think it’s a clear evolution of the original idea. in UT you learn that you shouldn’t do bad things because bad things will happen to you - the game, (unless you are Merg) will most likely literally force you to resetting to a better route before you can even finish Genocide, through the brute-force Sans Undertale #1 Tumblr Sexyman method and then Chara fucking kills you and the world ends and then unless you delete your save files your game will be corrupted by what you’ve done forever. in DT, maybe your actions don’t have catastrophic world-ending consequences - but the question is, does that justify being bad? maybe the choices this time are about how even if you cannot control the “big” events, you still can still change small things for those around you for the better. the question is: if being kind cannot save the world, why be kind? that’s on you to figure out.
I dont think DT will have multiple endings UT style - I think there’s a big chance it’ll be the same whatever you do except the road there could be either paved by having a solid group of friends who are happier for each other or a bunch of hand-cultivated mass murderers you are “proceed”-ed into being as strong as possible, leaving you wonder if you went about it the right way
