☾ - pairing: leona kingscholar x reader ☾ - word count: 1.1k+ ☾ - summary: leona just wants to nap, but you have a way of being a little too distracting.
Tumblr media
“What are you doing?”
The low growl startled you out of your thoughts as you turned your head towards the voice. Your mind had been otherwise preoccupied as you stared at the notebook in your lap and you hadn’t even noticed that your right hand had started to wander. That is, not until you focused in on the feeling of soft hair beneath your fingertips and your eyes met the confused, and slightly annoyed, gaze of your boyfriend next to you.
Leona had been dozing while you were studying, and you hadn’t even realized that you had started to run your fingers through his hair while your mind drifted off to alchemy formulas and spell techniques. It was never your intention to wake him, but as your fingers brushed along the ridge of his ear, you could imagine how it might have startled him back to consciousness.
“I’m sorry,” you murmured as embarrassment washed over you. You hated to admit how relaxing it was for your fingers to twirl around his long, brunette strands and how it helped keep you grounded and focused. But you knew that Leona hated being disturbed from his naps, even if it was by your gentle, caressing touch. “I didn’t mean to disturb your nap.”
Emerald irises regarded you now as the annoyance had slipped from his expression and you felt yourself relax just a bit. Despite your apology, you still hadn’t stopped running your fingers through his locks, and he hadn’t said anything else that might warrant a complete cease and desist. In fact, a small smile appeared to be tugging at the corner of his lips as you slowly brushed along his ear again and your nails scratched gently against his scalp.
Imagine your surprise when, in response, you heard a small purr rip through your boyfriend’s throat as his eyes fluttered shut. Your eyes widened as it was a sound that you had never heard before, and it only took approximately 2.5 seconds before he realized what had happened and his eyes were snapping open once again.
“What was tha-“
“You didn’t hear anything.”
His tone was lacking any type of malice as he sat up on his arms, his cheeks turning a dark red as he gently pushed your hand away from his head. Ultimately, you knew that he had been enjoying your ministrations, and from the noise that he had made, he had also managed to play his entire hand for you to see. He could act all resigned and tough all he wanted, but you knew better. The thought made you smile.
“I can keep going if you’d like,” you grinned, your hand slowly moving back towards the top of his head, only to be halted in mid-air as his hand wrapped around your wrist. His green eyes finally met yours once more and you could see a hint of reservation in them. Everything about your relationship was new territory for him, and you were sure that giving away his emotions in the way that he just had was a lot for him. However, you were here to nurture those feelings and help them bloom, that way he could see and recognize just how cared for he was. “Leona, there is nothing for you to be ashamed of. So, you purred? Who cares-“
“I said, you didn’t hear anything.” With a quick twist of his body, he was soon on top of you, one hand still wrapped around your wrist as he pinned it over your head. For someone that had just been sound asleep, he moved with a quickness and agility that always managed to take your breath away.
There was a flash of warning in his eyes, as if daring you to press him, but the smile on your face only grew as you knew that you were in no imminent danger. His pride was bruised just a bit, but you knew him better than he thought you did.
“Whatever my King says.”
The use of the nickname threw him off as his eyes widened and his hold on your wrist tightened just a bit. It wasn’t the first time he had heard it, and you could tell by that flash in his eyes that he enjoyed it. The purring incident forgotten, there was a new cause to the flush of his cheeks as he used his free hand to swipe your notebook from your lap so that he could press closer to you.
Leona had always suffered from the idea that he wasn’t wanted. Being the second born with no real claim to the throne of his kingdom, he felt… lost. He had the desire to be a leader, but that was often masked under his perceived indifference and laziness when it came to school. However, hearing you call him your ‘king’ and taking in the fond look that you gave him while you said it had a new desire building inside of him that he wasn’t quite sure how to tame on his own.
When he looked at you now, he didn’t think about the kingdom that he would never rule. He didn’t think of those years being cast aside in favor of his brother or how he had longed just to be recognized for his greatness. No, instead, he saw a whole new world that he had been handed the power to reign over. He saw everything he had ever hoped for right in front of him, and it knocked the air from his lungs as he realized what you were offering - what you had always been offering - in exchange for nothing but his affection.
Why settle for a kingdom when he could rule over the whole damn world? That’s what you were to him, anyways.
With the hand that wasn’t pinned by his, you lifted to cup his cheek, easily pulling him from the thoughts that ravaged his brain and bringing him back to the present. He couldn’t help but lean into your soft touch before lowering his head to nuzzle against your neck. The fire that had started inside of him in embarrassment had fizzled as a new flame burst forth in his chest. He could feel your pulse quicken against his lips and the soft sigh that filled his ears was the sweetest sound that he had ever heard.
“I thought you wanted to nap,” you murmured breathlessly as he continued to trail love bites across your neck, applying just enough graze of his teeth to have you arching into him.
“You were the one that woke me up,” he replied quickly, his hot breath fanning across your collarbone, causing you to shiver. “Now, you have to deal with me.”
He knew that you were smiling, and you could envision his smirk in your mind as you pushed your free hand back into his hair. As much as you needed to study, you weren’t going to complain about this particular study break.
“Whatever my King wants.”

dream of me again
Tumblr media
☾ - pairing: azul ashengrotto x reader  ☾ - word count: 3.6k+ ☾ - summary: late night study sessions in Azul’s office at the Mostro Lounge are a common occurrence, but falling asleep while you’re supposed to be studying is not.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t out of the ordinary for you to find yourself lounging in Azul’s office at the Mostro Lounge in the evening after classes were over. In fact, more times than not, this is where you would study late into the night, with Azul popping in to help you with your notes when he wasn’t busy working or making sure that everything with the business was running smoothly. He was your favorite study partner, and because he excelled at the classes that you weren’t really the best at, it felt like the perfect place to be. While you seemed to be getting more out of the arrangement - a comfortable, quiet place to study with an endless supply of drinks and snacks thanks to Azul’s generosity - he didn’t seem to mind having you around and so you kept showing up.
How were you to know that Azul felt that he was the true winner in this particular situation? With you hanging out in his office, that gave him practically unlimited access to you, and he couldn’t think of a better reward.
Now, he had a reputation as the type to take advantage and even use some of the people around him to get what he wanted, but when it came to his own personal relationships, he was completely different. He was a businessman, sure, but he had a heart that seemed to, as of late, rest precariously in the palm of your hands. He didn’t have much experience when it came to this type of thing, but suddenly, the Lounge came second to whatever you needed and he didn’t even have to think twice about it. This night was no different.
You had shown up just right after opening, but already the Lounge was packed. Jade and Floyd were busy directing patrons and employees alike, but they still managed to give you a quick, knowing smile as you passed them to make your way to the back office. Azul was nowhere to be seen, so it could only be assumed that he was sitting at his place behind his desk, accounting or planning for whatever the night might have in store.
You didn’t bother knocking. Instead, you simply pushed open the door that was only partly closed, as if he had prepared for your arrival. Chances were, he probably had, and the fact that his eyes immediately met yours as you stepped into the room only solidified this assumption.
“Hey,” you grinned in greeting as the man smiled easily back at you, his blue eyes bright as he seemed to forget the paperwork that was sitting in front of him. It had always amazed you how accomplished he was, despite only being a second-year, and how dedicated he was to the establishment that he ran. You had always heard the stories about him, but you knew the Azul of rumors was different from the Azul that you knew. And while you never asked about his business dealings, you didn’t feel like you needed to.
“Good evening.” The returned greeting had your smile widening as you made your way towards the couch that was situated just to the left of his desk. You set your bag down on the ground between the couch and the small table in front of it, and just as you were moving to pull your notebooks out, you felt a presence take the seat next to you.
“Don’t let me interrupt your work,” you said casually as your head lifted to see that Azul had moved from his desk chair to the cushion beside you. He quickly shook his head as if brushing away the idea that you were a bother at all before gesturing towards the notebooks you now had resting on your lap.
“Did you need any help tonight?”
For once, you were able to give him a confident no in response. His smile dropped slightly before giving you another small nod. It was unusual for you to show up and not need his assistance on at least one or two things, but for now, you seemed to be grasping every concept in your classes fairly well. You knew that your current academic success had a lot to do with the boy sitting next to you, and you were sure that there was no way you would ever truly be able to repay him, but you thought that letting him get in a full night’s work without any interruptions would be a good place to start.
“I just wanted to hang out here while I work on some things, if that’s okay. You can go about your business like I’m not even here.”
Azul hesitated at your words, but then you were giving him that bright smile that made his heart race before turning to flip open the first notebook in your stack. He didn’t move at first, instead, watching you as your eyes scanned the page of your messy notes, your brow starting to furrow a bit as you concentrated on what you were reading. He was a little ashamed at how let down he was that you didn’t need him tonight, but he did have other matters he could be attending to. He had just been looking forward to spending time with you.
“If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll have Jade or Floyd get you something to drink while you study.” You nodded along with his words, but you didn’t look back up at him, giving him the signal that he was dismissed.
Seeking out Azul’s company while you studied was a habit but it was also something more than that. It was almost as if you were drawn to him in a way that you couldn’t explain. He was your first thought when you woke up for the day, and you spent a lot of time in class looking forward to being able to see him at the end of the day. It was a wonder you were doing well in any of your classes at all due to the amount of daydreaming you did, but all you had to do was remember how proud he would be when you succeeded, and that was enough to help you refocus. Having him across from the room from you allowed your mind to relax and you were able to go about your studying with no issues.
Azul wished he could say the same. Having you across the room from him under these conditions had him a little bit on edge. He was trying to focus on his work, but even just sitting there, you were distracting. He found his eyes wandering over to where you were sitting, little sighs escaping his lips as he tried to channel his attention back to work but to no avail. It wasn’t until there was a knock on the door and one of the Leech twins walked in that he realized he had been zoning out for longer than he had meant to.
“There’s something that you should probably see,” Jade murmured regretfully as his eyes trailed over to the couch where you were seated. Both Jade and Floyd were more than attuned to how Azul felt about you, and while they were normally quite mischievous in the matter, they knew that Azul could fall into a mood if his time with you was disturbed without warning. If one of them was interrupting, then it must be urgent, and Azul exhaled a long, much louder sigh before standing from his chair.
“I’ll be back shortly. If you need anything, just let a member of the staff know,” he called over his shoulder to you, and you just barely glanced up as he made his way out of the room.
Even though you had been deep into your studying, now that Azul’s presence was gone, there was an emptiness to the room that made your chest ache. He wasn’t far away, and yet you couldn’t see him and even that little bit of loss was distracting.
“Pull yourself together,” you mumbled under your breath as you shook your head slightly, trying to clear out the distractions of your now racing thoughts. “You need to study.”
Minutes passed and Azul still hadn’t made his way back to the office. As time ticked by, you could feel your eyelids start to droop as the words on the page in front of you started to blur. You shifted in your seat so that you were laying on your back, head on the plush pillow that Azul had used to decorate with, as you held the notebook over your head in attempts to continue with your studies. However, your arms quickly grew heavy and the notebook was placed on your stomach as you eyelids slowly slid shut.
I’ll just rest my eyes until Azul comes back, you thought to yourself. He should be back soon and then I’ll just ask him to help me study to stay awake.
Only, it was a full forty-five minutes after that before Azul was finally able to make it back to his office. There had been problem after problem throughout the Lounge that he had to see to, and by the time it was all done, he was grumpier than ever. He already had his apologies poised on the tip of his tongue as he re-entered his office but the words quickly died on his lips when he saw your sleeping form cuddled up on his couch.
He paused in the doorway, his eyes taking in the sight before him as he tried to catch his breath. You looked so peaceful and undisturbed and he considered backing out of the room to let you sleep until he remembered that he had been in the middle of something before all of his distractions. Slowly, he closed the door shut behind him, guiding the latch to click as quietly as possible so as to not disturb you, before starting towards his desk once more. He had made it over halfway across the room before he heard it, the sound causing his feet to stall and the blood to drain from his face in surprise.
“‘Zul.”
It was just his name, but the way your voice wrapped around it caused a stirring in his chest that he didn’t quite recognize. It was another new feeling, and his eyes snapped to your sleeping figure to make sure that he hadn’t been mistaken in thinking that you were asleep.
Sure enough, your eyes were still closed, but your brows had started to scrunch together slightly as you whimpered his name again, his tongue darting out to wet his lips as he tried to determine what move he should make next.
On one hand, he could go about ignoring you and continue on with his work. You were clearly dreaming and whatever it was you were dreaming about was none of his business. Even if he was involved in some way, this was a private moment and he felt like he was intruding.
On the other hand, you were saying his name, so would it be so wrong for him to make his way closer to you? Maybe he could stir you awake and ask what he was doing in your dream to make you sound like that. The way your body subtly shifted on the couch, your notebook sliding off onto the floor in the process, peaked his curiosity. He hated that he felt like such a creep about all of this, but you always felt like a magnet to him, and now, your pull had only intensified.
“Azuuuuul.”
You were calling for him, and what kind of man would he be if he didn’t heed your call? That’s what he told himself anyways as he changed his trajectory and made his way towards the couch where you were sleeping. Your lips twitched slightly, and Azul carefully perched himself on the outermost edge of the cushion just as a low hum spread throughout your chest and the corners of your lips turned up slightly.
Seems to be a good dream, at least, Azul thought to himself as a smile of his own started to form. He was just about to reach out to gently nudge you awake when the door of his office swung open and the knob hit the wall behind it with a loud thud.
Your eyes snapped open and you lurched into a seated position, coming centimeters away from head-butting a startled Azul as Floyd stormed into the office, unaware of what he had just interrupted.
“Wha-, ah! Azul, I’m so sorry, I must have-“ You started after realizing how close your friend was and how he had just found you sound asleep in his office, but before you could continue, you realized that his attention wasn’t on you. The surprised look that had formed on his face was extremely short-lived as he had now focused his attention on the intruder of his office, fixing the teal-haired boy with a menacing glare.
“What did I tell you about knocking?” He seethed, his voice low and hard. Whatever Floyd had been in a hurry to say now seemed to escape him as he realized what he had just walked in on.
“Oh, uh, sorry?” He stuttered, though the smirk that had started to form on his lips made his words sound far less genuine.
“Get out,” Azul hissed this time, his eyes burning with frustration as you watched on with a curious expression. You had been asleep, so you figured that Floyd might have been involved in the problem that Jade had come to get his assistance with before, so really, you didn’t think much of Azul’s sour mood, even if it was something you weren’t used to seeing first hand.
Floyd made a quick exit, pulling the door closed behind him, but not before giving Azul a supportive nod and wink before disappearing. Azul released a heavy breath as his shoulders sagged before turning his gaze back to you. The malice that he had directed at Floyd was completely gone now, and the Azul that you knew, and craved the company of, was back.
“I’m so sorry that he woke you up like that,” he apologized, and you quickly waved him off.
“I shouldn’t have fallen asleep in the first place. I’m sorry for intruding on your space and using it as a bedroom.” It was then that you realized that Azul still hadn’t moved from his seat on the edge of the cushion next to you, and you noticed an odd look in his eyes as he regarded you. “Is something wrong?”
You didn’t expect a blush to spread up his neck at the question, and when he quickly looked away, you felt a sinking feeling in your stomach. Had something happened? Was he here to deliver bad news?
“I was just…” he started, though his words were failing him. “I thought that I heard… were you…” None of his words made any sense, and he cursed himself under his breath for being unable to string a full sentence together. You were still watching him, worry now filling your features, as you waited for him to explain what was going on.
“When you have dreams, do you usually remember them?”
Your brow furrowed for a moment as you tried to remember what part of your previous conversation would have brought about this question. You had been asleep, but you didn’t think that either of you had been discussing dreams at any point. So why would he…
Only, just as you were about to ask him what he was talking about, a brief scene flashed through your mind that caused your breath to catch in your throat. It involved Azul, but you were sure that it was something that had never happened in real life before, despite feeling like something that had happened quite recently. You could vividly remembered the way his lips felt pressed against yours, though looking at them now, you were sure you had never physically experienced it.
“What did I do?” You asked hesitantly, almost terrified of his response. You were known to be a sleep-talker, but you were starting to fear that maybe it was progressing further than that. You had never told Azul how you felt, and you hated the idea that you might have said, or done, something that might have made him uncomfortable.
The flush to Azul’s skin caused panic to rise from deep inside you, and suddenly, he couldn’t seem to meet your gaze. The confidence that he normally exuded around others was completely wiped away and now he looked as if he wished the couch would swallow him whole.
“You didn’t do anything,” he murmured, and you felt momentarily relieved before confusion took over once more.
“Did I say something?” You asked, hoping against hope that maybe you had just been making some strange faces in your sleep. Only, when he nodded, dread washed over you. “What did I say?”
Azul sighed, his shoulders sagging more as he looked as if he was carrying an unseen weight that kept pushing him down.
“Just my name. I just… I wasn’t sure…”
Finally, his blue eyes turned back to you, and you felt your own skin start to heat up at the look in his eyes. It was almost hopeful, though you weren’t sure if he was hopeful for a confirmation that you had indeed been dreaming about him or if he hoped that he had been imagining things.
Dreaming about kissing one of your best friend’s wasn’t something you did often, but when the dream involved the boy sitting in front of you, you found that it wasn’t something that you hated either. Your chest ached at the prospect of rejection if you told him how you felt, but even so, the dream had been potent enough to have you curious.
You sat up just enough so that you were now resting on your elbows, drawing you closer to Azul who still didn’t make an attempt to pull away. You took that as a good sign. If he was disgusted at the idea of you dreaming about him, you were sure that he wouldn’t allow you to get so close. He was never one who willingly accepted much physical contact, but with you, he had always been a little more open. Even now when you were beginning to explore uncharted territory in your relationship.
“Have you ever dreamt about me?” You weren’t sure where the question had come from, but now that it was out in the open, you desperately wanted to hear the answer. Azul’s gaze darted away from yours again, and he bit his bottom lip anxiously as a thick blanket of silence settled around the two of you. Maybe you were pushing too hard. Maybe you had jumped the gun of thinking that he would respond well to such a bold inquisition.
You were just about to apologize and retract the question all together when his quiet voice finally filled the air between you.
“All the time.”
You gasped - you couldn’t help it - and when you did, a redness unlike any of his previous blushes colored his skin, and you immediately felt bad. You knew that Azul wasn’t overly affectionate, especially with his words, and so, admitting what he had just admitted was a huge step for him. You could see him starting to withdraw back into his shell almost instantly, and you couldn’t help but reach out for him, one of your hands resting gently on his forearm.
“I’m sorry, Azul, I didn’t mean to sound so startled, I just… what do you dream about? What-“
“It’s nothing, don’t worry about it,” he huffed, his voice taking on an air of fake indifference as he started to stand up from his seat next to you. You were losing him, and you could feel the wall slowly starting to slide up between you. This wasn’t what you wanted. In fact, this was the opposite of what you had wanted. If you had been open with him about what your dream had entailed, would things have gone a different direction? He was still within your grasp, maybe you had time to save the moment.
“Would you want to get dinner together sometime?”
Azul’s brow furrowed as he glanced back over at you. He was doing his best to keep his expression resigned, but the question had clearly caught him off guard in a completely new way.
“If you want food, I can have Floyd or Jade bring you some from the Lounge,” he offered, and you quickly shook your head. A small smile had started to slide across your lips and Azul was more confused than ever.
“No, that’s not what I mean. I meant, would you… Azul, would you like to go out sometime?”
You hadn’t intended on asking him out, but the more you watched his expressions and processed his reaction to the entire interaction you had been having, the more confident you felt in asking. Azul was still mystified, and for a moment, thought that you were messing with him. He had never envisioned that you would someday be the one to ask him out. He had never allowed himself to consider that you might feel that way about him.
“Are you… are you really asking me out on a date?” He asked softly, and your hand gently squeezed his arm as you nodded.
“I’d like to have some more time to discuss these dreams that you and I seem to keep having.”
Azul blushed for what seemed like the hundredth time that evening before he started to smile himself.
“Yeah. Yeah, I think I’d like that.”
Late-night study sessions in Azul’s office had always been your favorite. But maybe now, late-night dates would soon be able to take their place.
