What makes Elly and Aidan so special to me?
I think we can agree that the bond between Elly/Rachel and Aidan is really strong, unusual, original… and I absolutely love it all the points.
Want more details?
Okay.
Professionally trained agents with a focus on espionage. Partners who worked together and protect each other. They literally fell in love on the battlefield.
They probably knew each other for years. And for years after that, Aidan protected her, at least from afar. He thought of her safety and how not to destroy her hidden memories, even if it took five long years without her.
Elly refused relationships and turned down offers of dates. Subconsciously, she felt she couldn't be with anyone else, though she didn't know why.
Elly still had their song in her life. Her feelings for Aidan were still there.
Aidan triggered the return of her memories (associated with hallucinations) immediately upon their reunion.
He knew how to calm her down in a panic. And she trusted him enough to fall off the roof with him.
Their "are you okay?"
Aidan allowed her to kick his ass (with the possibility of killing him) just so he wouldn't have to hurt her. You could literally see how much he didn't want to hit her, and how much it hurt that he had to do it in self-defense at all.
Elly was not mentally balanced (which is more than understandable in this case). Aidan had such strong feelings for her that they were experiencing a folie à deux [a mental disorder occurring simultaneously in two persons who are in close contact. Induced delusional disorder. If one of the partners becomes ill with psychosis, he can influence the other with his delusions or hallucinations, who will start to share them] in the dance fight scene vs. the camera footage that shows their behavior during a fight scene was exemplary professional. (Cool point by @thesnowybiscuit)
Aidan had always loved her and took the last opportunities to tell her so. Even though she had just tried to kill him under psychic control.
She had always loved him and just a few memories of the last few days had helped her disobey the order while under control. If she was really aiming for his head, breaking the music box wouldn't be enought.
Aidan accepted Alfie, even though he didn't like cats and was allergic to them. It may not sound like a big deal, but it is. (And I think he liked him after all.)
Aidan joined her newly built life. And he loved her, even if she wasn't quite the same as before.

Get to know you (tag game)
Tag 9 people you’d like to get to know better. I was tagged by @mega-aulover Thanks dearie!
Last song: Hero by Enrique Iglesias. Gotta love us some awesome guilty pleasure music. 😉
Currently watching: 1899. I know it’s buried in the Netflix graveyard of great cancelled shows but yeah …
Three ships: Haymitch Abernathy x Effie Trinket (too obvious?), Niles Brightmore x C.C Babcock (The Nanny) and Fox Mulder x Dana Scully (The X Files)
Favorite color: Golden and yellow.
Currently consuming: A glass of Troca (Swedish soda)
First ship: Nellie Oleson and Percival Dalton (Little House On The Prairie).
Relationship status: Single and happily married to Hayffie for 12 years. I tell ya, if I invested as much time and effort in a real-life relationship as I do Haymitch and Effie’s I’d be a grandmother by now. 😂
Last movie: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
Currently working on:
A Hayffie AU (not yet published) where Haymitch raises geese for a living and Effie’s an heiress and (to hear her tell it) an up-and-coming fashion icon. Story takes place in a reimagined Panem where the Games never happened. Romcom hurt/comfort.
Taste of Strawberries (obviously! 😂) 40 chapters thus far. My massive Hayffie magnum opus about Haymitch and Effie creating a life together post-mockingjay. It’s a slow burn about love, trauma, addiction and xenophobia.
Thanks for tagging me! I tag (if you haven’t already done it) @ilikeyoubetter-sober @daliceus @greywitchproject @sparklebear11 @dandelion-in-spring @mollywog @violets-and-tea-leaves @tessaservopoulos @jroseley and anyone else who feels the urge to share.

Something I think people really miss with Gender 101 stuff is that no, you really do need to simplify things when you're first introducing a binary cis person to the idea that gender is more than the binary of penis or vagina. They learn better if you frame things with reference to their existing understanding of the world as much as possible and give them the simplest and easiest-digested version and let them internalize that before complicating things.
Like, that meme about discussing gender with other queer folks (pic of the School of Athens) vs discussing gender with cis folks (pic of teacher and kindergartener)? Everyone's gotta pass through the kindergartener stage before they reach the wise philosophers in deep discussion stage! That's how learning works! It isn't "cis people are dumb" it's "cis people are several years behind you in the school of gender and you can't teach PhD courses to kindergarteners."
So like, "born in the wrong body" narratives aren't reflective of the trans experience for a lot of people (including me, in fact), but they're something cis people struggling to grasp the core concept of transness can get a handle on as an avenue to understanding dysphoria. It gets them through that initial hurdle of comprehending that it's possible for a person's physical body and internal identity to be in conflict. Once they've internalized that, you can explain more fully how different people have really different experiences of transness and dysphoria or lack thereof. The lie-to-children (ie, teach simplified principles first so they have a basis to then understand a more complex reality later) is a key tool of teaching for a reason. Or, in physics trope terms, "born in the wrong body" is useful in the role of a perfectly spherical cow in a vacuum. Does that exist? Not in the real world it doesn't (I hope!) but first-year physics students benefit from considering them nonetheless.

11:23 pm
we fell asleep next to each other. he checked to see if i was sleeping before texting another girl. i’m getting used to things being casual -with everyone. i’m getting better at ignoring the bleeding pit in my stomach that spends the hours wondering.
i know it’s pointless to keep hoping i’m wrong about his apathy. i know i shouldn’t let him stay in spite of it. yet here i am, saying ‘i know’ without actually following my own logic -every time i write a fact, some hopeless, lovesick puppy in the back of my brain scratches it’s claws into my reasoning and i sink back into the habit of ignoring my gut. i dig my own grave and bury my standards six feet underground.
once, we were two people having a conversation with steel strings attached. things felt equal. mutual. and i know -i don’t feel lucky. the bare minimum isn’t getting deified. i also know that this is the most i’ll get it- that this is the most he gives to himself. it’s sick and twisted how something about that knowledge softens the lack of invitation into a silky bouquet of petaled flowers, and i pretend the way he treats me is at least halfway romantic.
i look at him while he’s sleeping. something about him is softer -easier to digest- when the morning light is shining and the room is quiet of his endless speaking of only himself. in certain shades of sunlight he nearly looks like a boyfriend. not mine, though. maybe that girl, mckenna he was texting next to me at one in the morning. next to him, if i’m too still, my world starts to feel like it’s getting swallowed up by my heart. i’m afraid, if i move, i will implode into a speck of dust on his bedsheets. and i don’t want to be there while she slides into this side of the bed like i did.
i woke up at 7am, thinking. the sun outside washing the walls with a brightness that peeks through my eyelids and i’m the only one awake to notice how my skin sparkles in that early morning sunshine. i turned to him in the privacy and studied the outline of his nose, the part in his lips. it could have been a mirror, showing me everything i lack, everything i’m not, everything i am. sometimes, when i stare at him too long, it hurts.
— ‘i won’t go down with his burning ship’

Whenever people talk about lack of media literacy they always bring up people who think a character doing bad things=the author endorsing said bad things which are very annoying but I feel like we're ignoring the opposite, equally annoying side of the discourse who think if you criticize the inclusion/depiction of dark/sensitive topics in any way it’s bc you’re a dumb baby who can’t separate fiction from reality. and it's like no I know I’m not supposed to clap and cheer at violence against women I’m criticizing how much of it there is. Idiot
