Classic BL Watch: MasterPost

Namaste besties. @waitmyturtles started a challenge watching Older Thai BLs and it got me thinking as well. I've seen a few, I've DNF-ed a few, but I wanted to see the progression with my own eyes. Thus we be here.

The basic premise is to watch and review Thai BLs from Love Sick 2014 (which I believe is the first Thai BL) to present time.

I'm going to make a few changes to the format and include BLs from other countries as well, including China (if I can find it).

This is a long post so I divided it into chapters: - Some History - The Method to Potential Madness - List - Rating System I've made individual posts about each under #org: subcategory

I've been fascinated with BLs for over two years. To find that there was an entire world of queer content out there which A) existed and B) didn't queerbait or bury the gay, was a revelation. How could this be? I'd watched Yuri!!! on Ice in 2017 and I guess assumed that BLs would be the same (E7 blocked kiss). So while BLs were on my radar for a while before I started I didn't get into them until relatively recently. I got so into them that I started a YouTube Channel about it.

See I'm a writer and watching art transform in front of your eyes is a relatively recent phenomena and it makes my brain go brrr...

Some History:

I'm Indian. I'm queer. We didn't have any rights until 2018 when the ban on homosexuality was lifted. We've had queer movies but they were your traditional Oscar-bait type things until very, very recently. By that I mean until last year where we had Maja Ma, a Madhuri Dixit starrer movie about a mom coming out as a lesbian which shocks the family and makes trouble for the son's marriage. It's a brilliant movie with one of India's best actresses as the lead. But it was a Netflix Original. Before that there was Subh Mangal Zyada Savdhan and Badhaai Do, which are both good queer movies which aired in cinemas from 2020 and 2022 respectively. All to say, queer media is very very very new in India. As such, what was a young queer to do but follow the Indian Dream and go to America. Which I did, in a literary sense. In fact watching Nyssa Al Ghul kiss Sara Lance was my queer awakening. (I love Ava but this ship was really something.) Between the good writing and queer chars being present, I wasn't coming back to India like any typical NRI.

I've mentioned before about how for the story I started writing at 15 there was no other love interest for the female lead except for another girl. It just won't make sense. This was before 2018, mind you, so not a chance in hell this would be published in India. I consoled myself with 'We'll publish in America. It takes place in space anyway, so it's fine.' But then came a story that just won't work in America. Think: what if Succession's terrible people protags were queer and Indian but it's written from a 'truly believes in romance' pov. Confused already right? I'd already given up hope. I love this, but it won't be anything more than a webnovel.

And somehow I found BLs. A world of queer stories the likes of which I'd never seen before, brimming with love and support and honest and real and queer. The Bollywood fan in me lived again after a decade 6 feet under.

I love BLs. There's no two ways about it. I love them for the love they give, the hope they have, the cringe, the drama, the stupidity, the honesty, the realness. It's everything I ever wanted queer media to be. To start it from 0 and learn what made them what they are would be an amazing learning experience and to share that with other people... well how can I not?

The Method to potential Madness:

My tastes are a little peculiar. I have seen media from all over the world, the good and the bad, what it has taught me is nothing is every going to be perfect and I will miss things that are important to other people but what else I've learned is that I don't really care about something being good. If it's broken, a little difficult, a little cheap but made with love. I am all in.

See when I was young during Janmasthami every year these guys from an organization called Yogeshwar would come in white kurtas and perform nataks(plays) in our society. They didn't have sets, 2-3 props, just that white kurta and pants as outfits and yet it was entertaining. It was fun. I loved it. So money and pure intentions have never been barriers for me.

What I do care about is competence. That the writer understands what they are writing about. The best actor can't pull off a bad script but a bad actor can be tolerated in a good script.

To get you an idea of my tastes some of my favorite medias are Legends of Tomorrow, Guardian (Cdrama), Supernatural, Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Chains of Heart, Kinnporsche, LITA, The Eclipse, The Devil Judge, Crash Course in Romance, SRK movies from '00 like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Main Hoon Na, Kabhi Khushsi Kabhi Gham, etc. As you can see, very widely ranging. I love competence and I love heart. Everything else I can live without. To that end some shows I didn't like/DNF-ed: Bed Friend, Step by Step, Big Mouth, Eve, Game of Thrones, most Netflix things, Mr. Robot, Supergirl, The Flash, Elite, Witcher, Coffee Melody, War of Y. If you get too PC without the narrative backup I'll leave; If it's too nihilistic, I'll leave; If it's too monotonous, I'll leave. I have Psychotic Depression, I don't have the time to deal with this shit.

Aight now we’ve got the dive

I’ve seen spoilers for this, of Steve diving into the underwater upside down gate and can u just say I CALLED IT.

Wow, it’s almost like an underwater gate is super cinematic and interesting ✌️🤪

Thots: had some great moments, but also had some of my least favorite moments of the season so far.

The California/Utah gang feels so fucking disconnected from everything else. They tried so so hard to shove Suzie into this season and made it a weird comic relief scene when the pen could’ve just had the coordinates hidden in it and they go right to the Nina project

The storylines are becoming so stretched that’s it’s hard for me to keep track of everything.

The whole satanic panic being spurred on by Jason is the worst thing stranger things has ever done. It feels like some cheap riverdale shit and that show sucks for a reason. I think it could’ve been mentioned like Eddie’s intro scene where he’s reading that article, but it’s taken such a focus that I can’t stand.

Steve Harrington is the light of my life but that’s not New information.

Anyway, this episode really lost me in a lot of ways but that ending with Steve being eaten alive was really tense

Maintained anonymous until final reveal while attacking protagonist. Tremors 2: aftershocks brings shriekers and season 2 brings demodogs. Smaller creatures that have ability to run on land. Smarter but also dumber than the full size. Tremors 3: back to perfection has ass-blasters and season 4 has demobats. This ‘flying’ counterpart utilizes the most disappointing cgi of the 3 and feels a bit forced.

YOI fanfic: Update for "Can You Hear My Heartbeat"

A while ago, I stopped posting this fic because I found it wanting. I started rewriting the eight chapters I posted so far on AO3 and because of this I had to delete almost all of them to keep everything consistent. Anyway, I just added a brand-new chapter about Viktor's arrival in Hasetsu and the reactions of Yuuri and his family. I'm going to repost the rest very soon and then continue posting weekly chapters.

I know this probably has been done a thousand times, but if you're interested in a story which fills the gaps in the anime please give it a try!

Here's a teaser for the new chapter:

He would need to come up with something before he faced Viktor again. Every conversation he had made up in his fantasies seemed hollow and unworthy of the real figure skating legend. He did neither want to come across like a freak nor like a creep.

“Yūri!” his mother’s voice sounded from the other side of the door. “Are you hiding in there again?”

Simone McCray’s Life Has Ended. (100 Baby Challenge, End Of 1st Gen)

Simone McCray, our darling first matriarch of this challenge, has officially passed away. I allowed her a peaceful death to live in heaven with her kids. She started out as an orphan in a bar, severely neglected, to becoming the devoted mother of 43 children. She fulfilled all of her dreams to give kids the happy lives she didn’t get, until she got it herself. We took a photo with the new matriarch, and the protagonist of the 2nd Gen, Petra McCray.

Petra, at random, is a collector, so we can get money from fishing and digging up treasures. She’s a dog lover, romantic, and a glutton. These are RNG traits btw. I like what I got. I like her character. Simone’s more of the mature confident perfectionist type who keeps everything in order and doesn’t care for love other than using people for having kids (She’s not married). Petra’s more sweet and rambunctious, she’s more outdoorsy, she’s more interested in the love aspect of her matriarch role, she has a glutton quirk, which makes her fun in my eyes

AND she has life saving powers.

That’s her story and why she wants to take over the household as the next matriarch. She doesn’t want people to die stupid deaths when she has the power to raise life.

She saved her family from death TWICE.

She saved her mom from dying of laughter, AND she saved her little brother from drowning, just by seducing death. (Now I kinda want to have a kid with death)

(Dion is also in the pool and was supposed to watch over Fred. But he hates children, so he might have tried to kill Fred. Either way I’m kicking him out)

It was the last day of Simone’s life. She spent it with her family and her ghost children (who all died of old age and I collected all their graves so they’re in the backyard). She and Petra made a fish dinner and cookies (Well, Petra just stood there and chatted), and shared it.

And I had her and Petra relax.

WITH the ghost of her first child, Regina, so that was PERFECT.

"'You see this ghost, Petra?"

"This was my first ever daughter, Regina"

"She was my pride and joy, and the start of my dreams"

"I made it a devotion to my life to raise people to the best of themselves.”

“And I'm happy about everything."

"And I know, with no doubt in my mind, that you're the best heir I could have ever asked for."

"When I'm gone, I want you to be able to move on like the brave strong girl you are."

"You will face many many hurtles with your family, but the reward is satisfaction unlike any other"

"Thank you. Both of you. For everything."

And we let them rest. (Petra was crying in her sleep and Simone was trying to calm her 😭)

And when morning came, Simone McCray passed away.

(I wanted her to die in the bedroom at night while they were asleep, but is what it is)

I can imagine her eldest children were there as her guide. They offered her a spot in Heaven.

“SO YOU’RE TELLING ME YOU PERSONALLY MET THE 127 MEMBERS!?”

You groan in annoyance, staring at Yuri in disbelief. “Yes I did. One of their members used to date my sister. How many times do I even have to say this?”.

“Oh my god! You’re so lucky! Why are the new students always the lucky one?” She whinnied, stomping her feet on the ground as if she was a kid who’s having a tantrum. “I’m not lucky, 127 are jerks. All of them are.”

“Well how do you know that?!”

“Nakamoto Yuta cheated on my sister.” You stated, blankly.

Yuri blinked at you, then covered her mouth in pure shock. “Wait really?! Oh my god, that’s a scandal! 127 boys are known to be the perfect seniors!”.

“Yuri, I would love to continue gossiping with you, but I’ve got to go. I got to make an important phone call.” You lied, taking the phone out of your jacket’s pocket before letting out a fake smile and turning your heels. “Wait—Y/n! Let’s talk again later!” The older girl shouts from your behind, waving her hand.

You didn’t even look back, nor did you look forward to even meeting her later.

“Name?”

“Jeon Y/n.”

“Age?”

“17.”

Chunja nods her head while lazily slouching at her seat, “Write your number here, Ms. Jeon.”

You did as she said and passed her back the pen. Chunja signed your id, “Welcome to NCITY University, hope you enjoy your stay here or whatever.”

“This isn’t a hotel.” You narrowed your eyes at her and clicked on your tongue, leaning more at the table before snatching the id out of her hands. You walked away to the other side where your first class is without even thanking her.

“She’s creepy.” Jinyoung peaks his head from the corner. “No. She just knows her stuff,” Chunja scowls at her little brother, grabbing a crumbled paper to throw at him, “And don’t you have class?! Be responsible for once and don’t be late!”.

“Noona, chill! I still have to get my sugarcake to class before I go too. You know, to show how much of a boyfriend material I am?'' Jinyoung smugly says, referring to the new freshmen over a month ago who he has a crush on. “I told you, don’t even bother her—you know what? I’m telling mom.”

“But Noona! I’m a big boy now!”

There’s a huge difference between you and your sister and anyone could see it even without glasses. Your sister’s the bubbly type, talkative and adorable, while you’re the complete opposite: quiet and composed. And honestly speaking, when the news of your sister dating spread, you were happy for her at first. You knew how much she always dreamed of having her own love story.

But when you met Yuta, you instantly saw the red flags. He had tattoos on his arm, ear and belly piercing (don’t ask how you know that), and the way he styled his hair in a comma. He looks like the bad boy that came out of every girl’s dream. You really don’t give a shit or two for bad boys, but there’s something about Yuta that radiates a huge dick energy.

No, you don’t mean it in a sexual way. You mean it in a way that you know he’s the exact meaning of trouble.

So just like any other good sister would do, you warned her about Yuta but she kept defending him at all costs. The more she speaks about him with hearts in her eyes, the more you grow to hate her boyfriend.

“Is that Y/n?” Taeyong lets out a huge shit eating grin seeing you, he puffs his chest and chuckles in surprise. “Oh, Y/n! Long time no see.” Doyoung was no better, his voice sweet enough to fool anybody but his eyes showed something else.

Oh, another thing you hate about Nakamoto Yuta: his fucking friends. Whenever your sister forces you to come with her to every party 127 throws, there will be no day that they’ll let you live your life down. Hell, you didn’t even really want to spend your college life in NCITY University, knowing all the shittiest boys you know are here, but thanks to your mom, here you are anyways.

You didn’t give any of the two the blessing of your attention and walked past him, making sure your shoulders bump theirs for good measure.

“Crazy bitch,” you hear one of them mutter under their breath. You freeze on your tracks, clenching your fists tightly. But instead of punching them in the faces, you continued walking away.

“Y/n, I don’t know you go here,” Jaehyun’s eyes widened seeing you. “That’s probably because it’s my first day.” You reply coldly, pushing past him too.

Jaehyun’s the sweetest out of everyone, at least. If the rest are the worst, he’s just bad.

“Well, well, well, Jeon Y/n.”

Speak of the devil.

“How’s Somi? Is she doing good?” Yuta asks, leaning his whole body on the wall just beside where you stand to cover your way. “Who even gave you the right to speak her name?” You laugh dryly, poking your tongue in the inside of your right cheek. “Ahhh, I see you never changed. Still overprotective over your little sis? Tell me, Jeon, is she still crying over me?”

God knows how much you want to break his jaw right now.

“Get out of my way, Nakamoto and no one gets hurt.” You threatened, stepping a step closer. For a minute, you forgot who you were talking too. But you were reminded that this was Yuta, the cockiest man you ever know, so instead of stepping away, he inched closer.

“No offense, but I feel like getting threatened by a cupcake.”

You just have no time for this.

“Look, just stay away from Somi. Don’t you have a heart? You slept with her own best friend you prick.”

Yuta narrowed his eyes at you, slowly licking his lips, “That’s what she told you? Huh, Somi, you’re more than I expected.”

“I don’t care what you expect from her.” You raised both your hands to the air then shook your head, leaving the Japanese man alone in the hallways. Yuta looked down at the floor and noticed an id that may have slipped out of your hands. He tried to glance around to find you, but seeing that you were gone, he decided to pick it up. “Jeon Y/n, not so smart to drop your id where I am.”

“Where is it? Fuck, where did I put it?” You mumble to yourself, patting all the pockets you have then rummaged inside your backpack. “Hey, it’s past time for freshman’s classes. Are you okay? Do you need help?” A girl who looks older than you asks, kneeling right beside you.

“No, I’m fine—”

“—I’m Nam Hyunjae, by the way! And you are?” Hyunjae introduces herself with a warm smile, helping you even if she really doesn’t know what you need help with. “I don’t need your help.” You decline, being as polite as you can but you were sure that you sounded rude instead. “No biggie, you’re like the new friend I met last month.”

You were half impressed at how she didn’t sound offended even if you tried to push her away. Maybe some people are just too kind for this world.

“I...lost my id.” You admitted, neck and ears flushing out in embarrassment. You couldn’t believe that you just lost the most important thing as a student. Not to mention, but that id also contains your personal information. Whoever took it knows where you live, your number, your name, and your birthdate.

“That’s awful! Come on, I know the perfect person who could help us!” Hyunjae gasps, then stands up, dusting off her jeans before lending out a hand to help you stand up. You stared at her hand then back at her. “I can stand on my own…uh, thanks.” You say, standing up after.

“Oh yeah, I knew that,” Hyunjae flashes an awkward smile then removes her hand, “anyways, come with me. Chunja works part time for the school, so I think she could help you with your id.”

You followed her to where Hyunjae claims that Chunja always stays on; that's basically on the other side of the whole campus, so you were able to tour yourself around. There was two things you noticed: (1) Hyunjae’s just like your sister—talking and bubbly. (2) This university is fucking huge. You didn’t really listen to half of what she’s talking about as you breathed in the fresh air.

“—That’s Chunja! Chunja! Over here!” Hyunjae calls a familiar looking girl who’s busy texting someone on her phone. Chunja looks up then where the both of you stand and that’s when you realized that she’s the one who made your id in the first place.

“Hyunjae? What are you doing with a freshman? Their class started like 15 minutes ago.” Chunja frowns noticing your figure. You sensed that she really didn’t like your company but not to worry, you also weren’t fond of her either. “Ahh, this freshman lost her id and I thought maybe you could help us find it!” Hyunjae answers her old friend.

“An id is one thing students in NCITY University could not replace. This place has a strict policy about that. No id, no entry; which means this freshman could never enter the campus ever again which also means that i’m not helping at all.”

“Oh come on! Chunja!” Hyunjae whinnies, skipping over to the girls side. “Let it slip for once, it’s a common mistake! Anyone could lose their id.”

“It’s fine, I could talk to the dean—“

“Nonsense! Chunja will help us, she’s really a kind hearted woman. Come on Chunnie…please?”

Chunja’s frown deepens after hearing the nickname Hyunjae called her. She sighed and slipped her phone back into her pocket. “Fine. Just…never call me that again.” She then proceeded to look at you. “First things first, do you know who took it?”.

You shook your head.

“Where did you last see it?”

“I was holding it then after talking with Yuta—oh shit. Oh.” So your id is with that fucker. You inhaled sharply as anger started bubbling deep in your chest. “I’m going to kill that son of a bitch.”

“You know Nakamoto Yuta?” Hyunjae asks, eyes widened. You sighed, “Yes but it’s complicated and I—“.

Hyunjae didn’t really let you finish when she started squealing and jumping up and down like her butt was on fire. Chunja winces and shakes her head disappointedly, “Don’t mind her. She’s always like this when it comes to 127 members.”

“I met a girl named Yuri a while ago and she acted the same thing. Is 127 that popular here or whatever?” You scoffed, not actually believing people love those jerks. “Yuri? Oh to hell with that bitch. She’s bad news—every dirty gossip comes out of her mouth. Yuri can’t keep a secret and tells everyone all the dirt she hears.”

“You actually know Nakamoto Yuta personally!? Oh my god! Oh my god! You’re so lucky!”

You slightly cringed at Hyunjae, giving her an annoyed look. “Knowing that prick isn’t lucky, he’s a normal person to begin with.”

“Prick?” Chunja chuckles. “What did Nakamoto do to you?”.

“Nothing. He had done something to my sister but that’s not the point here. What’s important now is that Yuta has my id and I know he’s not going to give it back to me without anything in exchange.”

“Why don’t we ask him nicely? Oh! Oh! This is a good opportunity to approach 127! Especially Doyoung oppa.” Hyunjae sighs dreamily, literal hearts showing in her eyes. “I’m saying no,” Chunja stares at her and blinks. “I’m saying no too,” you agreed.

Just then, your phone dinged.

unknown: i know you want something back, but listen, i want something too. how about we do a friendly exchange and we’ll both get what we want?

“Who is it?”

You grit your teeth. “Nakamoto.”

“He must’ve gotten your phone number in your id, text him back or something.”

you: what do you want from me yuta?

nakamoto yuta: simple. i want you to understand that i did not cheat on your sister. i’m not that kind of man.

you: go to hell.

nakamoto yuta: oh? no id for you then.

you: fucking bastard.

nakamoto yuta: that’s not nice :(

nakamoto yuta: but you can be nice by meeting me later at 6 at the convenience store near campus. who knows? maybe i will give you back your id <3

You left him on read, exchanging unreadable looks with Chunja. Sure, you hate her, but maybe that’s because she just reminds you of someone who’s like you.

It was too easy to say that you skipped the first day of university but so hard to realize that yourself. You can’t believe you're forced to pull yourself out of class just because your sister’s ex-boyfriend stole your id. And you also couldn’t help but feel bad for Chunja and Hyunjae—your two seniors who also skipped their classes of the day—to help you get your id back.

And to be honest, the two girls were fun to be around with. Hyunjae’s all about sunshine and rainbows while Chunja’s all about the dark and stormy seasons. It’s amusing to see them call themselves friends when they are obviously the opposite of one another. It makes you wonder: why can’t you have friends? Why do you love pushing people away before they could even get close?

“You okay, kid?” Chunja asks you, puffing her cheeks. “Yeah, I-I’m fine,” you didn’t mean to stutter, but thank god that she chose to ignore how distressed you sounded. “So we’re meeting Yuta? As in that hottie? In the convenience store? I think I’m gonna faint.” Hyunjae exclaims, fanning herself with both her hands.

“Well don’t. Yuta isn’t the prince charming you're thinking of.” You grumble.

“No, not at all. He’s the villain, that one hot papi villain.”

You had trouble showing how annoyed you are the more you hear Hyunjae gushing about Yuta. Does no one really know the true colors these boys have? Do they all think they’re the perfect kind of boyfriend?

“Hyunjae, shut it.” Chunja shuts her friend, noticing how uncomfortable you looked. Hyunjae kept her arms up, closing an imaginary zipper on her lips. You sighed heavily, bringing both your hands on your hair before pulling on it’s strands, “Nakamoto Yuta is my younger sister’s ex-boyfriend, and he isn’t the most loyal one.”

“Oh…my…god…” Hyunja might’ve forgot that she zipped her lips, because in the next second, her jaw dropped. “Well, that took a turn,” Chunja bit her lip, her heart clenching for you, “If you want, I’ll meet him instead and give him a piece of his mind.”

You chuckle bitterly, shaking your head, “Nah, if someone’s going to beat his ass, that’ll be me.”

What made you trust these girls easily? They just have something in them that makes you comfortable. You felt warm, welcomed—is this what friendship feels?

“Well, it’s almost six. The decent thing to do at least is to drop you off at the convenience store.” Chunja wrapped an arm around you, ruffling your hair. For some reason, you were like the little sister she never knew she needed. Don’t get her wrong though, she loves Jinyoung too. You let yourself be dragged, too coped up yourself.

“Hey, Y/n,” Hyunjae calls, making you humm. She pouts, “I’m sorry for not shutting up about you-know-who, I didn’t know he was a bad person. Your sister didn’t deserve what happened.” You cracked up a smile at this, shrugging, “It wasn’t your fault. Besides, I couldn’t blame you.”

“Are you saying you find you-know-who and his friends attractive too?”

“What? No!”

“Thought you’d never show up,” Yuta says, his eyes scanning the chips area of the convenience store. He didn’t have to look at you to know that you’ve arrived. “My id,” you demanded, making sure he knows you aren’t here to mess around.

“That fast? Don’t you want to catch up?” Yuta imitates a pout, finally facing you. His grin widens seeing how pissed you are, “I missed you, Y/n.”

“Sounds like it’s not my problem.” You hissed, blood boiling once again. You want nothing but to slap the cocky smile out of his face. Yuta sighed, leaning his back on the nearby wall, staring at you with hooded eyes, “What made you think it was me who cheated? Did Somi never tell you about the kiss she shared with the guy she met at the club?”.

“Don’t twist the story, Nakamoto.”

“I’m not the bad guy here, Y/n. I didn’t cheat on her. But if breaking up with the girl who kissed another guy not just once, but twice, is bad, then maybe I may be a bad boy.” Yuta says, reaching for his pocket to reveal your id.

“My id!” You yell, a little relieved to see it. You tried to grab it, but Yuta immediately raised your id on the air, making it difficult for you to reach. “Hey! Hand it over, you asshole!”

“Not until you believe me.”

“Why the hell will I believe you and not my own sister?” You stand by your ground, not afraid to back out. Even if Yuta’s face was close to yours, you still stubbornly stayed in your place. “Because,” he shrugged, his eyes slowly dropping on your lips before looking back in your eyes, “I’m telling the truth. And one of the things I hate the most is when someone turns their backs on me.”

You cursed under your breath. If you’re stubborn, so is Yuta.

“I fucking hate you, Nakamoto. But fine, let’s say I believe you. Now my id?” You grumble, taking a step back to create some space in between the two of you when you accidentally stepped on the wrong side and lost your balance. Yuta immediately wrapped an arm around you, pulling you towards his chest so you wouldn’t fall.

You both gazed at each other’s widened eyes, mouth opened wide in surprise at what happened. But then Yuta grinned afterwards, a teasing glint in his eyes, “I think I’m falling in love with you, Jeon Y/n.”

“W-Wha—”

“Here,” Yuta helps you stand up properly and passes you back your id, “See you at classes tomorrow. I’ll take the word that you believe me.”

And with that, he left you inside the convenience store still flustered over what happened.

2021 Magi Fic Summary

I don’t see why only artists do summaries! I’m gonna do one too! So I’m just going to list a short sample from any fic I posted each month! A year in fic!

2021 sure was A Year, and there’s some variety. The usual dgrp and jshk, but with more p5 this year and even a couple of extra fandoms. I’d say I was pretty accomplished, especially in terms of zineworks, fanweeks, and the longer fics. Here’s to next year!

January - By Chance (NDRV3)

“Hey—can you hear me? Are you alright?”

It should be meaningless. Just a video game character reciting the same lines of text. No variation, no matter how many times the game gets rebooted. Everything—including this person was just lines of code locked in a purgatory of repetition, all at the mercy of mere clicks of the button.

He clicks through, and eventually, Komaeda Nagito reaches out. Offers his hand. It’s not to him, not really. Even in this position, he’s all too aware that he’s just playing another mindless character. One that grips Komaeda Nagito’s hand uncomfortably tight and pulls himself up. One that just—like everyone else in this world—just wants to feel special and important.

February - BREAKTIME (Omori)

“T-Thank you, Omori! That was... That was...” Basil heaves, Basil breathes, Basil musters up a laugh. “T-That was really close, but...you saved me! I just knew you would!”

Well. They were friends, after all.

So, he shrugs. Shakes his head to let Basil know it was nothing.

But, Basil embraces him so tightly that it can’t be called nothing.

March - The Captivating Voice That Is Not Yours (JSHK)

“He’s not what I’d call an angel, but he is a good teacher,” Nene had explained, and whatever bit of irritation flickered through her expression was drowned out by her beaming with pride. “Because of him, I’m good enough to share the stage with you, Aoi!”

“Nothing makes me happier to hear besides your singing,” Aoi murmured in return. That was genuine, even as caution crept back into her tone. “So, that teacher of yours… How did you find him?”

“It’s more that he found me.” For some reason, Nene got flustered. Despite how adorable she looked, a chill settled on Aoi’s shoulders as the songstress went on, “He heard me practicing. He said...that I had a lot of potential.”

Aoi had known that from the start. Yet, she hadn’t been able to help Nene at all.

It’s such a terrible feeling.

April - At The Point You Realize (P5)

“Geeeez, what are ya, my wife?”

“More like your mother,” is Ren’s simple response. “Son.”

Seriously, Ryuji could’ve died from how that made him choke.

“D-Dude?! No! Don’t make that shit so weird?! I don’t mind ya looking after me, but...” Despite himself, he chuckles. “For real, I really, really appreciate it! I like it, even, but you can’t go replacing my mom.”

“It’s a joke,” Ren said flatly.

May - Don't End This Dreaming (P5)

They eventually did go to that lake house. His dad went along, forcing a similar kind of smile. They took him to the lake where they watched keenly as he stepped into the water.

“Do you think about jumping in?” his dad would ask in a low voice, and he could only shrug helplessly. His dad laughed lightly. “Not much of a daredevil, huh? Definitely your mother’s kid.”

It’s not that he sounded resentful, but maybe he had sounded disappointed.

June - It’s Every Girl’s Dream (Beware of the Villainess)

“Nine.” She doesn’t know what face she’s making, but she hopes it’s one entirely unbefitting of a heroine. “I would say that we’re friends.”

Nine’s taken aback, but he’s too kind of a person to argue with something like that.

He’s not a villain. He’s not remotely a bad person. He’s soft-hearted and easily brought to tears. He’ll only bare his fangs at true villains—and at Yuri. Even though she’s supposed to be the heroine.

Truth be told, I like that about him.

July - The Capital Magical Defense Force (NDRV3)

“I’m fine,” Momota slurred. “Totally fine. I’m a goddamn Luminary, Shuuichi...” He says he’s fine while leaning into Saihara. It’s a bright sunny day. People are no doubt stealing glances, and Momota no doubt has to hide his exhausted face in his sidekick’s shoulder. It’s a good thing Harukawa isn’t here.

Ouma scoffed. Saihara shot him another glare.

“If you’re just here to mess with Momota-kun, you can leave.”

Saihara’s hands tighten on Momota. Goodness, it really is like Ouma is the supervillain tormenting the tired hero.

How boring.

August - Dregs Of Regret (DGS/GAA)

“What happened? What changed? Why...?”

The questions swirled round and round, but no answers awaited him. Instead, Asougi said nothing. Ryuunosuke shook his head as if that would alleviate the buzzing in his skull, but when he finally caught a glimpse of Asougi’s expression--

A complete stranger stared back coldly.

September - Back To December (P5)

“I’ll make the most of our time together before then.”

“Our time.” Akechi lets out a laugh, low and ugly and so very lovely for it. It’s nothing like the saccharine giggle of the second detective prince, but it’s so wonderfully Akechi Goro, even if it’s more muted than before.

“Your time,” Akechi then corrected him with a snarl, fitting an impressive amount of disdain into just that word.

October - Please Wait For Me (JSHK)

The grave is so polished that Amane can see his wretched reflection. Nanamine says nothing as he drops to his knees before it. As he prays and prays. She is silent and his reflection only grows more and more twisted.

He clasps his hands together tighter. Nearly pierces into his own knuckles with his nails.

“Amane-kun, have you been getting enough sleep?” Nanamine asks.

He answers her with a cold stare.

“I worry about you,” she goes on. “For that child’s sake.”

November - These Days, With You (DR1/SDR2)

Slowly and tentatively—he wasn’t sure where she was but he refused to think of it as her not being there, he might not be able to properly touch her or feel her heartbeat against his own, but—he brought his arms around her presence best he can all the same. Miserably, he thought about how he couldn’t even hold her close when he so dearly wanted to. But this was enough. It had to be enough. Even though...

“I can’t forget you. And...I can’t give up on them, either.”

“Of course not.” Another sigh against his ear, and this time, it felt chillier than death itself. “That’s just how you are. I’ve always loved that about you...but I resented it, too.” Her icy fingers combed through his hair, with colder lips that press to his temple. “I can only wish you luck.”

December - Matter Of Pride (YGO)

“For the next exam, if you are not the top of the class, you truly will disappoint me,” Kaiba went on. “If I wanted an idiot for a rival, I would pursue that dog of yours.”

“Don’t call him a dog,” he snapped. “And isn’t that unfair? Cards and academics are two different things.”

“A challenge is a challenge,” Kaiba said. “I expect you to meet that challenge, Yugi.”

“I-I’ll do my best,” his partner whimpered. “F-For Jou’s sake.”

Alot of character names may have deeper meaning but some are also refs to stories they liked. The stranger writers twitter posted a list of movies said to inspire s4 (which I’ll be referencing).

Dart- dustin names him this after d'artagenean (a 3 musketeers book character) and one of Dustin's fav candies (3 muskateers). Similarly his pet turtle yurtle is implied to be named after the dr Seuss’ story 'yertle the turtle'.

Brenner- main character from 'the birds', which was on the st s4 list.

Byers- john byers from x files. The duffers mentioned x files was an inspo for the show. Although John byers (from x files) resembles Murray as an unhinged conspiracy theorist. The documentary paradise lost was also cited as inspo for st- john byers and his son, terry, Michael, and Steve were names in said film

Jim Hopper- in Predator (another st inspo) he was a soldier who was flayed to death in the woods. Another character in the film with a similar fate was “Hawkins”.

Detective Wheeler and elle Holloway- from silent Hill franchise. Another ref mentioned by the Duffers. Holloway was the surname of st's Heather. Elle (is el) and Wheeler is Mike's surname. Wheeler was also on the ep of twiglight zone (another cited ref by the duffers) . In the ep 'mute' sheriff wheeler takes in a mute psychic girl as his foster daughter. So some hints at hopper too . Hopper even mentions el-anor (gilipse) in s1. The surname of a main character in the silent hill series.Lt. Colonel Sullivan (s4) could be a eastergg of silent hill 4 which had a Sullivan character.

Henderson- st twitter mentioned how all the bond films were on the s4 inspiration list . So Dustin's surname being the same as one of the bond characters is a nod. Duffers also mentioned ‘freaks & geeks’ as inspo- and 1 character’s surname was also Henderson (another nod).

Mrs Driscoll (from s3) - a nod to invasion of the body snatchers which was mentioned as inspo by the Duffers. And clear inspo for s3.

Powell (cop and partner of hopper ) - diehard films also on s4 list. He's named after the cop powell.

Callahan (cop and partner of Hopper) - father Callahan ref. He shows up in many of Stephen King novels. The Duffers have cited over 10 novels and books from him as inspo for st

Nancy- she's called ‘Nancy drew’ (from the novels). And the duffers have mentioned they are fans of elmstreet - who's main character was Nancy. Nancy also references 'Oliver twist" ,and that book has a character named Nancy in it. Nancy was also a first Lady in the 80s similar to her friend Barbara- who was also a first Lady in the 80s.Nancy's name might also be inspired by "Nancy Wheeler", a secondary character in the 1970 book Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret written by Judy Blume.

Fred (s4)- apparently a high-school journalist who may be friend or foe. This one is a stretch but given nancy maybe being an elmstreet ref- and her enemy being fred-die kreuger. Fred may have animosity to Nancy and that's why his name is Fred. I mean ... they even cast a new s4 character with Freddie kreuger's original actor.so...

Jason (s4) - is in the 1986 Nancy drew novel (when s4 takes place). He is similar to the duffers description. In the novel he's a rich, popular, arrogant jock and blackmailing students at the high-school . S3 even named one of its episodes after a nancy drew novel- so wouldn't surprise me.

Christie carpenter (s4/reffed in s1 by hopper)- christie is the main character in the hellraiser series (which is on the s4 st list). Carpenter is the surname of the director of 'the thing' name dropped in s3. (The flesh monster in s3 also resembles the thing) , and in s1 mr clarke watches it ,and mike has the thing movie poster in his basement.

Argyle (s4) - die hard 1-2 were on the s4 st list. And is a name of a diehard character.

Max- her name is 'mad max' like the 80s film. But since the Duffers like videogames. Her name may be a ref to max caufield from the ‘life is strange’ game as well. She has a 'never Maxine rule' similar to max in st. But the game character is similar to jonathan as she is a teen photographer and says similar words to jonathan in s1 saying she would rather watch people through a camera than interact with them.

Eddie munson (s4)- not going to lie. I have no proof of this but I immediately thought of the TV character Eddie Munster (the friendly monster ).

Possible comic book easteggs

The duffers are no stranger to comic book references. The duffers have already directly reffed xmen, wonderwoman, and green lantern. Kali's place also has a comic book ref to 'the invisibles' on the wall. While the s4 movie list mentions thor ragnock , age of ultron, and 2 batman films. Some of these refs will go over your head if you haven't read my DID theory. But a lot of this analysis will still be enjoyable. :)

Jane st ives (jane ives aka el). marvel. (jane st ives sees her dad k*ll her mom and vows revenge against him.Sort of similar to what brenner did to terry).

Stephanie harrington (Steve harrington)- 80s marvel comic. DP.7. Will DID ref. Antibody, is a medical resident who can project from his body a dark figure of himself (also called an "antibody", a word play on the medical term) that flies, can become intangible, and transfer its memories to another person by physical contact (mindflayer). He later merges with the antibody. like how susie refs ‘wizard of earthsea’ -the novel where the young wizard Ged releases a shadow monster (said to be an ancient evil) but it turns out to be the dark aspects of his personality and the only way for the chaos to stop is to accept his darkness and merge as 1.

Barry bauman (Murray bauman) . marvel comics - Will did easteregg.Bauman lived in never ending darkness. He felt, that there was a realm outside the darkness and started to explore the entire content of his brain thus using now more than the usual 10 % .Also had telekinesis.He turned his attention to the stars in order to exact revenge on the human race which spends billions of dollars to kill each other, but wouldn't spend the mere million or so it would have cost to cure him. For his vengeance he transported the suns near our galaxy into his omnipotent brain. As the people of Earth would learn of the disappearing of the suns they would panic and feel Bauman's loneliness before he would destroy Earth.Despite the death of his physical body, Bauman's consciousness somehow survived and began hopping from body to body throughout the galaxy, his powers growing until the Star Thief was recognized as a major threat to galactic society.

Sinclair- last name of xmen rhaine. Will Did ref. storyline Rahne Sinclair is mentally bonded to Havok against her will(Will/mf).She is subsequently manipulated by the Shadow King. Her bond with Havok causes her to act irrationally, sometimes threatening teammates, sometimes by flirting with them. She undergoes more than one attempt to undo the bonding, with varying results. Her instability also manifests in many odd dreams, in which her identity is merged into pop culture figures. What’s funny is charlie heaton (jonathan byers) was just in an xmen movie with this Rhaine character.

Victor creel (s4)-sounds like mutant victor creed of the xmen comic. x men Mutant with ab*sive dad and poor socioeconomic background. He had a "birthday tradition" of ab*sing his young relatives on their birthdays. Which reminds me of Lonnie making jonathan cry for a week (because he forced him to k*ll a rabbit on his b-day). Not to mention Lonnie is prob coming back for Will’s b day in s4... so... the name is prob a ref to that ‘birthday tradition’. Could also be a stephen king reference -since Duffers love him. The Creel family was in sk’s book “pet cemetary’-which fun fact (the actress who plays El’s aunt is in the recent remake)!

Yuri (s4)-Yuri Topolov (Russian: Юрий Тополов) was a Soviet scientist and the first foe of the Hulk.

Dimitri (s4)-Dmitri Bukharin was born in Kuibyshev, Russia (some sources say Moscow). First appeared in Iron man.

Peter ballard ( s4 character) may just be a hellfire ref . since I guy with last name ballard was a double agent for the hellfire club (name of st s4 ep 1). And ballard means bald which the actor is certainly not lol. I don't think he's literally associated with hellfire but its just a ref. And because its implied in his st character summary despite working for the mental hospital-where brenner is most likely at- he's horrified by the treatment of the psych patients. So that may be where the double agent aspect would come into play.

Ian Hargrove (billy hargrove)- batman comics. had a history of mental health problems dating back to childhood, which his parents were unable to afford treatment for. His brother John hargrove tried to keep him out of trouble but Ian developed an uncanny talent for explosives (will the wise fire powers). He ends up at Archam asylum. Cough billy is Will's alter. Why he has the name billy (a nickname for William) . Jonathan in s2 mentions how he likes the writer vonnegut- who wrote slaughter house 5- the main character was Billy. Already mentioned how it connects to my did theory .

Jason carver (s4)- carver is the last name of the comic hero thunderbolt (in the flash)-the first name of thunderbolt is Will and his brother is named Lonnie. There was also a John carver in the comic.

Holland (barb's last name) last name of Swamp thing. I think its plot has quite a few s4/5 spoilers but Im not diving into it right now.

Names associated with religions or mythology

(if you’ve read my DID theory- some themes will appear relevant in relation WIll’s alters or to WIll’s past/tr*uma).

-‘Kali prasad".Kali is the name of a Hindu goddess . Kali’s iconography and mythology commonly associate her with death, violence, s*xuality, but also paradoxically -motherly love. In myths ‘she only k*lls demons’ and is described as ‘overflowing with incomprehensible love for her children’ - (aka ST’s Kali k*lling people from hawkins lab for hurting kids). Her third eye stands for wisdom (like Will the wise).Kali is called at times ‘ the bright fire of truth’ (will the wise/fire powers).The devotee makes her image in his heart and under her influence burns away all limitations and ignorance in the cremation fires. This inner cremation fire in the heart is the gyanagni (fire of knowledge), which kali bestows (cough Will the wise-fire powers). The goddess also could create a darkcloud of lightning (similar to the mf). The phrase “brilliant as a dark cloud” is a snippet of one such prayer dedicated to Kali.The name Kali is derived from the Hindu word that means “time”. Kali receives her name because she devours ‘kala’ (Time)- like clocks ticking when El sees demogorgan/clock being wonky when Will see mf/clocks in s4 promos.’ After devouring time she resumes her own dark formlessness. “This transformative effect can be metaphorically illustrated in the West as a black hole in space” (cough mf cough hopper blackhole/time refs). Kali’s s2 butterfly-“Kali is the Hindu goddess associated with eternal energy. ... The cocoon, butterfly and the karmic golden wheel reflect Her deep connection with life.”And Prasād (her last name) is a material substance that is a religious offering to gods in Hinduism .

-While, EL is the name of a Cannanite (male) god associated with “salt water “ (pool filled with salt in s1) who “dwelled in a tent” (in s1 Mike’s blanket fort) .And his gray-beard was described as " "full of wisdom.” él’ in Spanish means ‘he’- which could be a nod at her ( androgynous) presentation in s1. El can also be translated to "God" or 'god'. The el character has various mythologies depending on which culture/ religion is using the term 'el'. In the post-biblical period, "el" became a regular element in the names of angels such as "Gabri·el," "Micha·el," and "Azri·el," to denote their status as divine beings.And Jane translates to " Yahweh (god) is gracious/merciful". The cannanite god El was also dubbed “Compassionate God of Mercy.” Earlier, a ninth century B.C.E. inscription identifies Ēl- the name of the Babylonian water god Ea, lord of the watery subterranean abyss (cough watery dark void in st). Terry (el’s mom-aka Teressa) was originally used in the Middle Ages for a “child baptized in holy water” (El in the sensory water tank/Terry used it too,according to Becky in s1). Eleanor (called this in s1)- can mean "sun ray" (possible the opposite of the ‘shadow monster’ or Kali who can represent a “black hole”).

-Will-the s4 st movie lists (‘red dragon’, gods of monsters, & ‘blade runner’ ) mention the artist and writer William Blake (specifically his painting of the angel michael fighting a dragon in revelations - reffed in st s1). He was one of many painters part of the exhibition of “ The World Turned Upside Down: Apocalyptic Imagery.”The World Turned Upside Down explores the myriad ways that artists in England visualized the apocalypse in a period fraught with political, religious, economic, and cultural change.

During this period Blake was commissioned to create over a hundred paintings intended to illustrate books of the Bible along with revelations . He also drew illustrations for the novel Dante’s inferno. Blake’s brutally satirizes oppressive authority in church and state.He said those who proclaim restrictive moral rules and oppressive laws as “goodness” are in themselves evil. Hence to counteract this repression, Blake announces that he is of the “Devil’s Party” (cough hellfire club ref-and dissing the satanic panic of the hellfire club and other marginilised groups) . He also says “men forgot that All deities reside in the human breast.” So Instead of looking for God on remote altars, Blake warns, man should look within.He produced a diverse and symbolically rich œuvre, which embraced the “imagination as “the body of God.” He wrote his own stories based on biblical writings- one includes the fire wielding character of Los (will the wise) who represented jesus. Los (like jesus does in revelations) causes the destruction of the world and the second judgment unfolds. The poem ends with Los’s unfallen state rising up and shepherding in science and removing the dark religions. I also talked about how this story ‘book of los’ hints at the DID theory-but this is getting long-so you can just read the explanation here if interested. Also, hellooo Both names are William B(yers/lake). Billy (a alter of Will-sharing the name William) in s3 he even wore “lady of pillar” medallion- i.e about jesus/mary.

JOHN (supposedly Jesus’ blood relative- who wrote ‘revelations’.) In scripture John was called “the disciple whom Jesus loved as a brother” .Fire is the most typical element associated with the Saint John's Eve celebration (Jonathan did light the demogorgan on fire). Many scholars consider John & Jesus ("apocalyptic prophets"). Jonathan itself translates to " yahweh (god ) has given" in Hebrew.

Michael- Similar to kali, he’s a religious figure known for killing demons. He’s the arch-angel from the book of revelations (Apocalypse). A evil Beast (with seven heads usually translated to ‘satan’ or ‘dragon’) appears .“it was a 7″ causes Will to be attacked by the demogorgan ( which in d&d is a demon with multiple heads). The Archangel MICHAEL fought and defeated this 7 headed beast/satan. Corresponding with Mike at the end of s1 writing a fictional d&d story for Will (based off defeating the demogorgan) which was about helping kill a 7 HEADED MONSTER! Michael is also the archangel who oversees on Earth the natural element of fire (Mike telling Will the wise to use ‘fireball’ to defeat this same 7 headed monster in the game, at the end of s1)! Ironically though Jesus /Christian god is also associated with 7s a lot (he has 7 angels and during the apocalypse causes 7 plagues , he has 7 candles etc .)cause the number seven, represented ‘perfection’ according to ancient numerology . Will’s b day is March 22- (3) +2+2 =7 (“it was a 7”). Will’s bday even falls in what christians call “the holy week”( the week immediately preceding Easter.) At the end of s1 they even defeat this 7 headed monster because Will rolls a 14 (which can be broken down into two 7s). Michael & William also have 7 letters in each of their names respectively- equating to this 14. This dragon biblical story (of Michael) is also William blake’s most popular painting. Also, random fact in revelations god has a rainbow throne (with thunder /lightning -will the wise powers- coming from the throne, and seven lit torches next to it ) . He also wears a rainbow halo. Lol. Michael also roughly translates to ( 'Who like el?' The answer being roughly translated to ' no one like el' ... which i mean literally is saying there is no one similar to her. But I still think its a linguistic pun/ burn that Mike is not actually into El romantically).

Jim (James) hopper- According to the s3 script Hopper’s real name is James. JAMES (JIM) was an apostle to jesus- brother of john. And in the bible was called a ’son of thunder ’. Will’s powers/ hopper being an alter of Will's so technically brother of jonathan and thunder powers. Not to mention David on Instagram saying hopper has " he has risen. like bread" is a Jesus ref to 'he has risen"... even the bread ref could be a catholic ref to the last supper.

Martin Brenner/marsha holland- have their first name reference the roman god Mars who was originally a ‘thunder or storm deity’ (will the wise/mf powers). EL (in cannanite mythology) also allowed Baal the storm god to rule the entire earth.

ROBIN- was the God of Thunder’s- Thor’s- favorite bird. And Dustin also means ‘Thor’s stone.’The red belly robin is also an important bird in Christianity. Legend has it that the robin got its red belly from a fire in which it was trying to protect Jesus. Robin also name drops the greek god prometheus- the god of fire (will the wise) who brought human beings life and knowledge. And Steve looks at Robin and says "let there be light" a biblical passage. The robin represents selflessness for a higher truth.

Barb- Saint BARBara- dad kept her locked away from the outside world (like el/brenner) . He tried to k*ll her when he learned she didn’t believe in his religion- so the dad was punished by “god” who electrocuted him with lightning/lit him on fire. (Will the wise powers).

Nancy- is derived from a medieval diminutive of Annis, an English form of Agnes. There’s the christian saint Agnes- who was beautiful and from a wealthy family. She was the Christian saint of girls and v*rginity . And the duffers subverted this along with the problematic horror movie trope of the ' v*rgin female heroine surviving while her more se*ually liberated female friends are punished by the villain' ( by having her survive specifically because she decided to have s*x).Agnes was also led out and bound to a stake, but (allegedly) the bundle of wood would not burn, or the flames parted away from her (will the wise fire powers). Also people claimed that any man who tried to r*pe her was struck blind.

Hopper's wife’s name -Dianne- is also the roman goddess of ,nature, hunting and wild animals( and greek equivalent to Artemis) .Becky means ‘snare’ -for hunting animals .Teressa (Terry) means ' huntress'. The name was originally used in the Middle Ages for a child baptized in holy water . Name of 2 saints-Teresa of Avila and Therese of Lisieux. Lonnie’s gf (Cynthia) was originally an epithet of the Greek goddess Artemis, as well.

Power couple Angela & jake (s4) - Angela means 'messenger of God". And Jake (also means ”supplanter”) is derived from jacob. Jacob was the son of Isaac and Rebecca in genesis. El’s aunt,Becky (Rebecca) is wife of isaac.Other theories claim that Jacob is in fact derived from a hypothetical name like יַעֲקֹבְאֵל (Ya'aqov'el) meaning "may God protect".The name jacob is also where the names James/jim is derived from.

couple Steve spies on in s3- Anna Jacobi & Mark Lewinsky. Anna ( name of the mother of the Virgin Mary) Jacobi ("he who supplants"-aka same meaning as jim since both names are derived from jacob). Mark (”the god mars”-same meaning as martin brenner) .Lewinsky (lion-same name meaning as Lonnie). Also derived from the Hebrew root לוי‎ (leví, “priest”)

Joyce means "lord". Could also be a ref to the ('unofficial') saint Joyce who gave up wealth to live in poverty.

Ted-is the short form of the names Theodore and Edward. Theodore is a Greek name meaning "gift of God", Edward has an English origin and means "wealthy guard." Eddie (from s4) also means ‘wealthy guard”

Holly (nancy and Mike's sis)- Holly meanings are 'One who is pious' or 'sacred'

Karen- can be short for Katherine-one of the first christian saints.”Saint Katherine of the Wheel “(er). A 4th century martyr who suffered t*rture on a spiked wheel. Wheeler does mean ‘occupational name for a maker of wheels’ after all.

Gospel of LUKE (lucas?) , or simply Luke, tells of the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.

Sinclair- Catholic saint of computers and TV screens (i mean... he is in the av club).

MAXimilian was deemed a saint in the 1980s- saint of journalists and radios. (Both aspects of s3)

Saint stephen/steven ( STEVE)-an early disciple and deacon . Considered one of the first m*rtyrs of the church.Stephen is first mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles as one of seven deacons appointed by the Apostles to distribute food (lol icecream) .According to Orthodox belief, he was the eldest and is therefore called “archdeacon”.

Sara- Her name is a feminine form of sar (Hebrew: שַׂר‎), meaning “chieftain” or “prince." She was the wife and sister of Abraham (ew -given her being an alter of Will though, such a name doesn’t surprise me). Similar to st Barabara’s dad - Abraham tried to k*ll his son isaac in the name of god. Becky (El's aunt) - is derived from Rebecca - wife of Isaac.

Claudia (Dustin's mom)- Christian woman of Rome greeted by Paul in his second letter to Timothy (in the bible).

Sam mayfield (max's dad) - Short for Samuel or Samantha, from the Biblical name Shemu'el, which means "God has heard", from the Hebrew shama, meaning "heard" and el, meaning "God". Samuel is rumored to be argyle first name.

Marsha Kelly (s4)- Kelly means "frequents churches" or " bright headed". Given she's a counselor the bright headed pun makes sense. But maybe she's not to be trusted if she frequents churches during a satanic panic arc which was fueled by Christian religious extremism . Or she's someone who contrasts the rest of the religious people in town since she's not originally from hawkins...who knows. x files’ main character was catholic but in one ep she criticized a small town for the satanic panic occurring-and says how accusing these kids who listen to rock as satanic or being k*llers is ludicrous.

Peter ballard (s4) - Peter was also the name of an apostle.

Tina (side character s2)- like christy (s4) it’s short for Christina which translates to "follower of christ" or 'stream'. Tina was the gal who hosted the t halloween party and also the name of one of Erica’s friends in s3.

Samantha (goth girl jonathan talks to in s2 party) translates to "told by god".

Tommy (s1-2) "God's gift" or "twin".Thomas is the Greek variation of the Aramaic name Ta’oma’. It came about because there were too many apostles named Judas; Jesus renamed one Thomas—meaning "twin"—to distinguish him from Judas Iscariot and the Judas also known as Thaddeus.

carol (tommy’s gf)- Carol is the short form of Caroline and the meaning is derived from the English vocabulary word for “song” or “hymn". A hymn being a religious song or poem.

Benny ( who helped El at his dinner) - originally derived from latin bennedictus which means "blessed"

Harrington- similar to Robin's religious animal iconography. Given the fact s3 alluded to the satanic panic. A Christian movement in the 80s that demonized and said d&d ,rock music, homosexuality, other religions, stephen King,horror films, wearing black,and non conservative ideology were 'satanic.' I wouldn't be surprised by this possible ref. Heck even William Blake criticized similar religious movements in his own time period. Several movies from the s4 list allude to this. The most obvious being the documentary paradise lost (named after the fictional retelling of satan/adam and eve story) - the documentary directly focuses on a witch hunt of rock loving teens (wrongfully accused of m*rders) in a small town during the satanic panic. Not to mention ironically s4 is hinted to be around easter. So Using such symbolism to address religious fundamentalism and the bigotry/hysteria it can cause isn't surprising. No i’m not lumping all religious people into this negative category- obviously.

Erica is a type of "heather" plant. martin/marsha: in the legend of Mars,his mother become pregnant with him using a magic flower- which was given to her by the goddess flora.

Bright (aka intelligent)

Bob- nickname of Robert . Both Bob and Robert mean 'bright, shinning or fame'. Aka smart -he's called ' Bob the brain ' for a reason.

Robin- is also diminutive of Robert . And we all know robin is smart too. Being multilingual/ cracking the code.Robin (like Robert) also means 'bright, shining , or fame.'

Lucas- means "bright" or "shinning" aka he's also a smart cookie. His firework plan saving the day.

Lonnie and Larry (the mayor) can both be nicknames for Lawrence which also means ' bright one' or 'shinning one'. Well... both are cunning I'll give them that. Lonnie is unfortunately ...smart. I think this detail had other foreshadowing. Joyce to Will about Will the wise ' if he's so wise why does he need the fireballs? can't he just outsmart the bad guys? " Will: " yeah. Usually. BUT sometimes the bad guys are smart too." I never understood why on earth Joyce would be with someone as awful as Lonnie in the first place- than be with his literal opposite Bob- but maybe she just found intelligence attractive?

Names associated with thunder/lightning/fire (Like Will/mf/Will the wise)

Byers-reprsents Greek Zeus (god of thunder/lightning). Martin - references the roman god Mars who was originally a ‘thunder or storm deity’ .ROBIN- was the German God of Thunder’s- Thor’s- favorite bird. And Dustin also means ‘Thor’s stone.’Jim- “son of thunder”. Christian god- has throne (surrounded by thunder /lightning). Kali- could summon thunder storms.Nancy/Barb-both saints associated with fire. Kali-is called at times ‘ the bright fire of truth’ /and bestows the fire of knowledge. Robin also name drops the greek god prometheus- the god of fire. Mars -the keeper of Rome's perpetual flame . The Robin bird in a Christian story myth protects Jesus from hell's fire. William Blake- wrote about a fire wielding character of Los who represented jesus. Jesus during end times wields fire. Michael is the archangel who oversees on Earth the natural element of fire. Fire is the most typical element associated with the Saint John's Eve celebration (Saint John- called Jesus’s brother).

Animals (and their symbolism)

Byers- means ‘ cattle shed’.The Greeks considered the bull animal totem to be a symbol of Zeus (god of thunder and lighting - will the wise powers). He is the head of the gods and the almighty ruler of Olympus. I”n hinduism, Shiva is known as Gorakhnath, means the lord of the cows. Tigers: (Sarah’s plushie/ Hawkin’s macott/ Will & Mike have tiger posters in their rooms): The goddess Kali & God Shiva wore a tiger skin (this fact was actually mentioned by Kali in the prequel novel ‘suspicious minds’ ).”In many tribal traditions of India, the tiger (or lion) is worshipped as a god. Buckley- can also translate to " field filled with deer" (like the deer attacked by the demogrogan or the bambi film jon reffed in relation to the hunting story about lonnie).And Karen ( when from it’s Hebrew origins) can mean- antler or horn. Also the caananite God el was usually depicted with animal horns on his head.Diana in Roman art usually is accompanied by a hound (demo dog) or deer. Because of the story of her turning an attempted r*pist-hunter into a deer/ and then causing dogs to attack him. Deer is also one of the symbolic animals accepted since early Christianity as an allegory of Jesus Christ and the Christian Disciple. And when associated with Shiva (kali's husband) in Hindu iconography, the deer omen denotes sovereignty over nature and symbolizes the lord of all animals, humans, and the King of the Forest. Hargrove- meadow filled with rabbits (like the rabbit lonnie made jonathan k*ll.) Hopper sounds like thumper the rabbit- which jonathan mentions in relation to bunnies . And ... idk... Hopper did make that pun in s3 about bunnies to Larry (lawerence) ? We also have rabbit refs elsewhere like with- el in Benny's. They play the song 'white rabbit' a song referencing Alice in wonderland and in el's room at Terry's house is the white rabbit from that story. Also paralleling to jonathan- el was almost made to k*ll a cat by her father (Cheshire cat aka Alice in wonderland ref + cats are associated with magic powers/witch craft).In Celtic folklore, the rabbit is seen as a supernatural being from the Otherworld.The rabbit symbolism in Christianity has found its way through the Germanic deity Eostre from which the name Easter came to be (s4 will most likely have the Easter holliday).One tale describes the rabbit as the pet of Jesus Christ. And rabbits were often inserted into art of jesus' mother .

Creel- basket or container of fish.fish is taken as symbolizing Christ’s faith, charity, and abundance. A biblical story goes how Christ fed his disciples with 2 fishes and called them “fishers of men.” The Christians made an acrostic from the Greek word for fish, “ichthys” as early as the first century and it is, “Iesous Christos Theou Yios Soter”, meaning Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.

Names hinting at character traits (which are very literal)

Mr clarke (science teacher)- clarke means 'scholar'

Dottie (in kali's gang)- she was in an insane asylum . And ‘Dotty’ is a very old British slang term for 'crazy'

War (usually relates to ‘villains’)

Troy- means ' foot soldier'. Martin brenner: Martin means 'war like'. Lonnie is diminutive of Alonzo or Lawrence. Alonzo means 'ready for battle'.

In contrast to Lonnie, Will can mean "desiring peace. " Axel who is part of Kali’s crew (who i think Will created along with others ) even means "father is peace."

Twin

Tom (Heather's dad) and Tommy mean ‘twin’. Robin's crush Tammy ('twin') Thompson ( 'son of tom’).

* Besides similar/identical name meanings.There’s also a lot of other repeated names that go into this whole twin/mirror imagery which i find strange... makes me wonder about @strangertheory ‘s version of the did theory. If not...maybe it’s just a allusion to the whole Will vs Will the wise arc (possibly) coming up?

Jennifer hayes (popular girl) & Jen (Mr clarke’s gf). Tina (highschool gal) & Tina- erica’s friend- Tina & christy are also nicknames of christina (s4 character). Susie (dustin’s gf) & susan (max’s mom). Sam (max’s dad) and Samantha (girl at party)/ samuel (possibly argyle). Billy Hargrove, Bill (dianne’s new huband), and Will-all being nicknames for William. Robin & Bob-nicknames for Robert. Lonnie & Larry-nicknames for Lawerence. Ted & Eddie being nicknames for Edward.James (Will’s bully), Jim Hopper (real name James), jacobi, and jason- all 4 are derived from jacob . Marsha Holland (barb’s mom) and marsha kelly (therapist s4)/martin relate to mars. Tom (reporter), tommy (highschooler), thompson (other highschooler).

it’s definitely peculiar to repeat names like this in a story. Unless it means ...something... I talked about how David was mentioning alot of doppelganger/twin imagery recently-here. So the name mirroring could just be an allusion to the Will/WW arc coming up ...possibly?

~"Y/n! My mom said we can go to the park!" Younger Jungkook shouted. He came running over to while you were looking at this weird teddy bear. "Y/n?" Jungkook said. "Oh, Sorry I was just looking at this weird teddy bear" You answered while pointing at the light pink teddy bear. "Hmm.. It looks like.." Jungkook said. He was still thinking about what the teddy bear reminded him of. " Jungkook-ah! Mom said we need to go." Jin (Jungkook's older brother) shouted. Jungkook stopped looking at the teddy bear and gave you a necklace. " I wanted to give you this to remind you of our friendship!". He explained. Before you could respond Jungkook waved goodbye and went inside his house.~

"Heh..you still didnt come back..." you mumbled. Remebering that memory was painful especially since Jungkook never came back. " Class! We have a new student" Mr.Lee said. "Hi...Im Jungkook and I hope to be friends with you!" He said. You almost chocked on the piece of gum you were chewing. "Jungkook? Here? No way!" You thought."Right.. you can sit next to...Y/n!" Mr lee said while pointing to you. You scoffed in reply. As soon as he sat down next to you he asked " Y/n? Y/n Y/L/N?" You ignored him. You tried your hardest to ignore him but a sound escaped your mouth " Hmp!" You angrily said.

After class finished your best friends Taehyung and Jimin came straight after you asking you questions like " Is that the Jungkook you were talking about? Does he still want to be your friend?" You simply answered with a shrug. You didnt know how to feel about meeting Jungkook , You dont even know if hes your friend. Jungkook went up to you. " Y/nnie~ Why are yo-" "Shut up! Just leave me alone!" I shouted. Then I left to go to my next class. Taehyung ran after me.

I had to go to my next class. " Jungkook~ I'm sure she'll come back to you! Why is she so special anyway?" Jimin asked. "I'll tell you after class" I answered. The teacher was talking really loudly but I couldn't really care I was mostly focusing on Y/n and her beautiful smile, Her soft skin and her Hazel brown eyes.

"Right! Your partners are.....Taehyung and Jimin! Ari and Yuri! Y/n and Jungkook!" Mr.Kim shouted. "But-!"I was going to say something but Mr.kim cut me off. "No buts!" He told me. I looked over at Jungkook as he showed his bunny smile at me. He only smiled at 𝗆𝖾 it was weird but I guess hes desperate to be friends again.

"Y/n we'll do the project at my house!" He exclaimed. I just nodded my head in reply. We started working on our project when my phone rang. "I have to take this call I'll be right back!" I told him. I ran out of his house and sat down on his porch. I answered the call and was about to speak but I was interrupted by Taehyung. "Y/n~ Did you and jungkook get along?" Taehyung annoyingly said. "Tae why did you call me?" I asked ignoring his question. "Um.....Good question, I actually don't know..But me and Jimin were drunk last night!" He exclaimed. "Seriously Tae?....Bye!" I said as I ended the call. I went back inside to see Jungkook had finished half of our project. "I ....I wanted to finish quick so, you can do the other half!" He told me with a bunny smile on his face. I sighed in reply and started finishing the other half of the project.

2 Hours later

I finally finished and it was 9 am already! I looked over at Jungkook who was sleeping and just left without a sign. I ran over to Jimins house and used the spare keys to open the door. Only to find Jimin on the floor sleeping and Taehyung sitting down in a corner. "Right! How drunk did you guys get?" I asked curiously. "Well we nearly drank 3 bottles of bear, before Jimin passed out of course" Taehyung explained. I went over to Jimin and hit him with a pillow. "Ow! What was that for!" He shouted. "I knew you were fake sleeping!" I said.

I woke up from my slumber to find that Y/n was gone without a trace. I picked up my phone and called her but she declined them. I looked at the clock on the wall and it was 9 am! That she stayed overnight...but where did she sleep? Wait am I forgetting something....SCHOOL!

|Y/ns P.O.V|

"C'mon we have to go to school!" I shouted as I pulled Taehyung and Jimin into the bus and sat them down. While the bus was driving us to school I opened my phone and I had 5 missed messages from Joonie and 16 missed calls from Michael Jacksons twin(The nickname for Jungkook).

📱 Joonie: Y/n! Yoongi said you leaked his phone number online!

📱 Y/n: Bruh..He doesn't know how to take a joke smh

The bus doors opened so, I had to go. Me Jimin and Tae came into the entrance of our school and there was Carly, Carly and her crew bullys us alot. "Well well, it seems like Y/n has an eye for the new student!" Carly shouted gaining everyone's attention. "Dont you know that Jungkook is mine? Well even if he wasn't with me he wouldn't like you!" She exclaimed while telling everyone to laugh. I had enough of this so I walked pass her but, she grabbed my hair. "Why are you running away? Are you a pussy? Hmm" She said while pulling my hair harder. I grabbed her leg and punched her face. "Nope it seems like your just a dumbass!" I shouted. Namjoon came from behind her and stopped the fight "Girls you both need to sto-" Namjoon was about to tell us to stop but I kicked Carly in her face and she went flying. "Jungkook is not yours and never will be! So stop pretending!" I screamed at her. Jungkook came in and heard me. " Y/n...Let's go" Taehyung said. Then we left like but I showed Carly my middle finger.

In the Principals office

"Y/n......This is the second time you've been here in my office, Do you have anything to say for yourself?" Mr.Jung asked. I shook my head and looked down at the floor. "If it carries on you'll have to be suspended!" He said. "Now get out of my office please" I walked out of his office and someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me in the janitors room.

"Y/n! it's me Jin remember?" He said. I nodded my head in reply. "Jungkook missed you but, you keep on ignoring him...Why?" Jin asked. "You know why! He broke his promise actually 2 of them!, He said he would protect me but when me and Carly fought he did nothing and he said he would never leave me!" I shouted. Tears formed an ocean under my eyes drowing my face. He wiped my tears as I saw pity in his eyes. "He didn't want to leave you! He was forced to leave!" Jin replied with shocking news. I hugged Jin for comfort and he hugged me back. "I'll try to be friends with him again! I promise you" I exclaimed with a determined expression.

Outside of School

I ran up to Jungkook and walked with him. "Why are you walking with me?" Jungkook asked. "I....I want to be friends again just like when we were little! I understand if you don't wa-" He cut me off by hugging me, I was about to hug him back but he picked me up!

|Jungkook's P.O.V|

I didn't want her to finish her sentence so I hugged her and put her over my shoulder. "Jungkook....DA FUQ ARE YOU DOING!!" She shouted. "Just playing with my short friend" I told her while laughing. Jimin, Taehyung and Hobi were taking pictures of us and posting it on social media, well except from Taehyung he doesn't want to die from Y/n.

I ran all the way to her house and greeted her mom "Hi Auntie!" I said as I ran up to Y/n's room and threw her on her bed. "Are we friends again?" She asked. "Yes" I said. "Even though I wanna be more than friends..." I whispered but somehow she heard me. We both sat up and she kissed me. It was passionate and soft I only dreamed about this moment never thinking it would come true. I kissed her back. It was like we were in an unstoppable dream. We broke the kiss for air. "Maybe we can be more..." She said.

▸ Chenle x reader ▸ 1,123k words ▸ Fluff only, arranged marriage au, inspired by Keshi’s 17 cover, and Marie Antoinette’s arranged marriage hehe (not really but I got the idea there) ▸ Requested and part of B’s giving back event, Ho Ho Ho?! See anon request message at the end of this drabble.

They say that arranged marriage fixes companies but it ruins someone’s dream of finding and experiencing true love. And you being part of a powerful family whose business is on the verge of bankruptcy, needed to sacrifice your dream of having true love.

You have no idea who this Zhong Chenle is aside from knowing that his family name Zhong can save yours. You were told that he is nice, but you won't believe that unless you see it with your own eyes.

Being engaged at the age of seventeen is quite hard because you’re too young to understand the true meaning of marriage. Aside from that, you have to live with the Zhongs and away from your family for a couple of years as part of the agreement.

“Welcome Y/n!” Mrs. Zhong welcomes you warmly in their big and humble home. “I would greet you with my son but he was out to get something, he should be with us shortly,” she says while she motions you to the dining room that you assume will look like a fancy restaurant but you are wrong. The Zhongs prepared lunch outside their garden with a simple table setting but full of meals that Mrs. Zhong prepared personally for you and your family.

It was nothing like how you imagined it at all, it was not fancy and intimidating. In fact, it is welcoming and there’s nothing to worry about. “Oh here’s my son- honey! Chenle is here” Mrs. Zhong exclaimed to her husband to officially introduce you to each other.

Thankfully, Mr. Zhong’s introduction was not overwhelming and he did it quite nicely and considered your young ages. He said, “Y/n, this Chenle my son. I hope you two became good friends over the summer”

The first thing that came to your mind when you met Chenle is that he looked like a prince and a very handsome one. It’s obvious that he’s shy, but that’s fine because you are too. But even though he’s shy, he made sure to make you feel that you’re welcome in their home. He even peeled a tangerine for you and put it on your plate shyly.

“I picked these flowers for you” he handed you the flowers he picked but under the table because he didn’t want his parents to tease him.

“I wish I brought something for you too” and you mean it. You knew that he’s nice and now you believed that but you didn’t expect that he’s a gentleman too.

“That's fine it's my job to treat you right” he flashes a handsome smile at you in which made your heart jump.

Over the years of being away from your family, the Zhongs took care of you and you and Chenle became good friends and took your time to know each other very well before accepting each other’s feelings.

Growing up with Chenle sure did help you developed your feelings for him. Sometimes you wonder if you’re accepting him as your future husband is out of duty for your family or.... you have officially fallen in love with him. Whatever it is, what you’re feeling for him is true.

Time passed by beautifully and you and Chenle are officially together now that you’re both adults. The idea of someday marrying each other did not make you both rush over anything, but still, just like when you were only seventeen, marriage was introduced to the both of you in the nicest way possible.

“Happy birthday princess” he kissed you on your forehead and gave you the same flowers he picked from the first day that he met you. “You look gloomy, what’s wrong?”

“I miss my family. My mom called this morning- and I don’t know Chenle, I just miss them”

“Smile for me please,” he requests oh so sweetly.

“If I smile then it’s forced” you pouted.

“Then I’ll just give you a reason to smile then,” he said with a smirk.

And right before your eyes, you saw your parents came out of nowhere like you were having a dream but you know they’re real because Chenle is wiping your tears. “Who’s the best boyfriend?” he whispered and kissed your forehead again before you go hug your parents.

Year after year, Chenle kept winning your heart fair and square and kept proving that you’re in good hands. Your family’s company is now saved and up for business again because Chenle is smart and good at taking care of their family business just like his parents. You, on the other hand, loved him deeply too and waited patiently for the wedding. On your 10th year anniversary which is Christmas eve too, Chenle brought you overseas so you could celebrate wonderfully. You figured the trip was so extravagant because it’s been ten years since you two said your first ‘i love yous’ little did you know that Chenle has been planning something big tonight.

“I’ll fall! Can you please hold my hand?” you exclaimed as you try to balance so hard. It was freezing and Chenle took you ice skating under the stars. It was very romantic, but you can’t quite enjoy it because he was teasing you.

“You’re just saying that because you want to hold my hand and not because you can’t skate” he teases you further.

“What are we teenagers?” you bite back. And finally, he holds your hand and kept kissing it, guiding you in the middle of the lake away from bumping other people who are trying to balance too.

“I think we waited long enough” he started, and you cant understand what he’s saying. “You know that I love you truly, right?”

“Of course” you answered without hesitation.

“And I want to prove my love with you. Even more. Every day” he kneels and takes out a red velvet box, opens it and you see a ring. A diamond ring. “Will you marry me? And let me take care of you until we grow old?”

The idea of marrying each other someday was not a surprise to you already but tonight, he made you feel that being with him was not an arrangement in the first place. He was your soulmate and the love of your life.

“I- I do. With all my heart” you answered, tears blurring your vision. He put the ring on your finger and kissed your cold hands.

“I love you. Let’s continue the moment inside, you’re freezing” he kept you close to him, giggle and asking you ‘who’s the best fiancé’ until you two return to your hotel room and finish the night with thick blankets and hot cocoa.

And that is how Zhong Chenle gave you a happy ending.

Journal Entry #14

Yuri

Hello, everyone! Greetings from Kiyomatsu!

I know it's been a while since either of us recorded anything in our journal, but it's been a very busy ten days. There's been a lot to do.

I'm not quite sure how we managed it, but we moved out of the old house exactly on the day we'd aimed for. It was before the end of the month, and Mrs. Ito seemed more than a bit surprised when I phoned her and asked her to come over and collect the keys.

We're officially moved into our new house now. We've been here for three days, and we're settling in nicely. It really is my dream home. Before this, it was only in my wildest imaginings that I could've seen myself in a house like this. Sometimes, I catch myself marvelling at the fact we're here.

Victor's mom is still with us, and from start to finish, she's been a true blessing throughout the entire dramatic story of our move. She'll be leaving at the end of the week, but she said she'd like to come back to stay with us again for a while in the winter.

When she first arrived, if anyone had asked me if I'd be okay with that, I would've told them a resounding no, but I've gotten closer to her over the course of her visit. We need to make a bit more progress before we'll be entirely comfortable with each other, but I think we understand one another better than we did when she arrived, and now I'm looking forward to having her come back so we can continue building our friendship.

Oh, I nearly forgot! we promised you the rest of the house tour last time, didn't we? Let's do that first, and then I'll tell you our other news.

Here's one of my favourite features. Our mountain has several natural hot springs, but the one on Uncle Kaz's property may be one of the very few that has a private home built next to it. The other one here in Kiyomatsu, for example, is on the property of a public bath house. It's much bigger than this one, so it makes sense that someone several generations ago had the idea to build a community gathering place next to it.

We really like not having to share ours. Victor and I both love it, and we've been in it for a short time each day. Dr. Nelson isn't such a fan, though. She tried it once, and then declared that it was, "not appropriate to be sitting around half-naked outdoors in the middle of winter." It's still summer, but neither of us bothered to point that out to her. I guess it's easy to forget what season it is when one is surrounded by snow all the time.

In any case, we don't mind if she doesn't want to join us. If she isn't watching us, we're free to cuddle in there if we want to, and maybe a little something else. I really don't like letting Victor kiss me in front of his mother. She tends to look for longer than is polite, in my opinion.

I could go on about the hot spring, but I'd better not. Let me get around to the areas of the house Victor hasn't already told you about. I wanted to get my work space set up before I shared that part of the house with all of you, and there was no bed in my room the last time, so it might've been premature to show it like that.

Here's my room. I'm in love with how big and bright it is. I'm very comfortable in it, and I may not want to sleep in Victor's room as much now that I've got a beautiful space like this. I'd rather see if I can convince him that he needs to be in here more often with me instead.

Another thing that makes me happy about my room is that I don't have to work in it. Separating work life and home life is challenging if you don't know whether you're working in your bedroom or sleeping in your office.

This is my cute little dedicated work corner, so now I can leave work out of my bedroom, as it should be. It's got plenty of natural light, and it's upstairs, so it's out of the way of the higher-activity areas of the house.

i think Victor may have mentioned our formal dining room last time, but I'm not sure if he showed you what it looks like. On our first official day as occupants of the house, we decided to celebrate by having dinner in there, and it was so lovely that I kind of want to eat in the dining room every day now.

Victor made a stew with black beans and tofu and big pieces of different vegetables, and he made some sort of chicken dish for himself and his mother. I baked a vanilla cream cake for dessert.

I put on some music, and we all sat down at our cozy kotatsu —our low, heated dining table — to enjoy the occasion and each other's company. Everything smelled so good. I couldn't even remember the last time I'd been that enticed by the scent of something edible, and I could hardly wait to try the stew.

The only real difficulty of the evening arose when I let Dr. Nelson fill my bowl for me. When I say filled, I mean there were barely two or three centimeters of the inner rim of the bowl visible.

I stared at it for a second or two. I’d never have put that much food in a bowl for myself, and I knew Victor never would, either. He'd never have expected me to be comfortable with that much in front of me.

Victor clearly noticed I was having this small dilemma. Across the table from me, I heard him say softly, "Yuri," and when I looked up at him, he silently formed the words, "You okay?"

Was I? Doing my best to tell myself that a too-full bowl was a silly reason to panic, I nodded. Victor smiled.

Unluckily for me, Dr. Nelson must not have caught this exchange, because the next thing I heard was, "Yuri, sweetie, at least take one bite before you start making that face."

"I'm not making a face," I said.

"It's fine, Mom," Victor said. "He always makes that face."

"It's not very complimentary to your cooking."

"Mom, you don’t—" Victor began, but then seemed to think better of whatever he’d been about to say. He sighed and tried again with, "You know what usually works better than criticism? Encouragement.”

“I wasn’t trying to be critical,” Dr. Nelson said. “It’s just that you put a lot of effort into this, and—“

“Mom. I said it’s fine.”

“I really want to eat it,” I said, embarrassed. “I didn't know I was making a face."

"It's okay," Victor said. "I know you really want to, and I know you can. You've been doing so good with your eating lately. I haven't had to coax you or nag you at all this last couple weeks."

"I don't remember you ever nagging me," I said.

"Well, whatever it is I do when I'm pleading with you not to let yourself slowly starve, then.”

“When you make your mealtime face, you mean?”

“Do I make a particular face?”

“Yes,” I said. “It’s that dramatic sad face. The same one you make when it rains and you can’t go on the trails.”

Abruptly, Victor snorted with laughter. “Yuri Okamoto, you’re making that up! I do not look all dramatic when I can’t snowboard.” Then, pausing with his chopsticks halfway to his mouth, “I don’t, do I?”

At that point, Dr. Nelson was laughing too. “Oh, Victor… I’m afraid you do, sweetie. I should know. I’ve seen that one a lot more than Yuri has.”

And, just like that, the little moment of tension had passed, and the remainder of our official welcome home dinner was wonderful. The stew tasted every bit as delicious as it smelled, and I surprised myself with how much of it disappeared from my bowl.

I have to say, I've been feeling really well lately. I'm not sure what the reason is, but I'm not about to question it. I'm just grateful for the reprieve, because everything in our lives has been so hectic during the past couple of weeks that I couldn't have done even a fraction of the things I needed to do if I'd been fatigued and in pain. I need to be careful not to overextend myself, since I still tire more easily than a normal, healthy person, but it's amazing how much more energetic I am when I'm not in near-constant discomfort.

Victor keeps teasing me about putting on weight. I'm never going to love food, like he does, but recently I've been waking up hungry and wanting to eat something. That hasn't happened for a long time. I think Victor's probably trying to create some momentum for my newfound appetite, because he's been cooking all the things he knows I like, and he's figured out that if he gives me very small portions, I'll succeed in eating everything on my plate. Like he keeps telling me, if it's not enough, I can always ask for seconds.

I can't even begin to tell you how much of a psychological boost it gives me when I actually finish a meal. It helps me feel confident and less anxious about the next one. And who knows? At this rate I may very well put on a kilogram or three. I'm sure my doctor would be pleased if I did.

I wish things could stay like this. It would be amazing if I could get up every day for the rest of my life and enjoy breakfast with my soulmate, and have plenty of energy to do what I want to do. Sadly, though, it won't be this way indefinitely. I'm living with a chronic digestive system condition, an auto-immune disorder that can only be managed, not cured.

The medications I have to take to suppress my mutinous immune response and prevent my body from literally attacking itself unfortunately also make me susceptible to every contagious illness that goes around, so even when my insides are more or less behaving themselves, it's not always smooth sailing. The meds effectively weaken my body's ability to fight, so I never get just a little bit sick with a cold or the flu or a stomach bug. Even the most minor illnesses can end up being a big deal for me.

Last winter's cold, for example, evolved into a respiratory infection that put me in the hospital for eight days. That was... not fun. I seriously thought I was dying, and poor Victor was so exhausted from stress and lack of sleep by the time I was finally able to go home that I had to ask my mother if she'd come over and help us out a bit, just so he could rest. Even after I was technically better and no longer taking a cocktail of antibiotics, the reality was that I spent the rest of the winter recovering.

But, enough of that. It's all behind us for the time being. Right now, I'm feeling strong, and I'm determined to make the most of it while I can.

I have things i want to accomplish here at home, and of course Victor and I are planning our first international voyage together. We're hoping to travel during the Winterfest holiday. We’ll only be able to go for a week or ten days, but I think I'm okay with that. Plus, at that time of year, I know Victor won't want to be away from the mountain for too long. We're tentatively considering Selvadorada, although for my first trip outside my home country, I'm kind of leaning toward someplace a little less... unpredictable. Wherever our destination is, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be feeling as good as I do now and that I'll be prepared to embrace our adventure to the fullest.

In other news, things are going amazingly well for me at work. Do you remember my company's newest client? The one I had to prepare a sales presentation for a few weeks ago? Well, it's the sports equipment company GnomeSports, and among other things, they make skis and snowboards.

My boss, Mr. Tanaka, said I'd get a bonus if we succeeded in getting them to hire us for their marketing and communications. I'll be honest; I was hoping the bonus would be money. It wasn't, but I was far from disappointed when i found out what it was. My bonus turned out to be a credit to purchase something from the company's range of products, and it was a significantly large enough amount that it covered the cost of two pro-class snowboards. One for Victor, and one for me.

I haven't told Victor yet. All he knows so far is that I needed the car today because I had to go into town to pick up something related to my work.

His new board is exactly the one that he's been drooling over for months on the company's website. It's even the colour that he said he wanted. I half thought about putting it away and surprising him with it for his birthday, but I don't think I'd be able to keep it a secret from him until winter. Besides, he'll need time to break it in if he's going to ride it in competition this season.

I can't wait to see the look on his face when he gets home from work and sees it.

Yes, that's our other big news. Victor got a job. He's a personal health and wellness coach, and he's working right here in Kiyomatsu at the fitness center. Today was his first day.

He was so nervous this morning before he left. Ever since he was offered the position, he's been worrying about his language ability and his social etiquette and whether or not he'll fit in with his co-workers and get along with his new clients. I've told him over and over that his manners and his language skills are fine, and Victor is a people-person, so I have absolutely no doubt that everyone will like him.

Doesn't he look adorable in his uniform? He can be my personal wellness coach any time.

Sorry... that's our inside joke. Essentially, Victor is my personal wellness coach, and he's very good at it. The only difference now is that we get to take advantage of a lot of the fitness center's services for free, and so he'll be able to help me change my exercise program and start teaching me how to lift weights safely. I can also get therapeutic massages for a reduced fee, due to the fact that I'm Victor's 'spouse'.

We laughed about that yesterday when he came home from his work orientation and told me that he'd added me as a beneficiary to his new insurance benefits, and had put my name on the center's list of immediate family members of staff.

"I had to tick the box for 'spouse or partner'," he'd said. "It didn't have a box for 'soulmate'. I hope that's okay."

He was so earnest, I just wanted to hug him and ruffle his hair. "Of course it's okay," I'd told him. "We're partners, aren't we?"

"In every way," he'd agreed.

Another perk of the fitness center that we can access for free is the pool, and my personal wellness coach has promised to teach me how to swim. I'm a little scared, but also excited. It's something I've wanted to do for a while, but never had the opportunity and the stamina at the same time. Now, I've got both, and it seems like the perfect moment.

I'm going to end this entry here, because I have to pick Victor up from work soon. I'm sure he'll be bursting to tell you all about his new job next time, and his new snowboard as well. Don't be surprised if he's more excited about his board than his job. Knowing him, he'll want to try it out as soon as the rain stops.

Gabriel

Gabriel is a small elephant with big ears that constantly make him fall over. He has a pink bowtie that says 'I Love You'

Makes Saku feel safe and Gabriel is a reminder to himself that he's loved and appreciated by everyone at Mankai.

George Washington

George Washington is a tiger. He is small, but his arms are like those slap bracelets so you can wear him on your wrist (or let him hang on the side of shelf like I do).

So I got Georgy-Boy for easter 2020. i asked my friends for name ideas. They sent me stuff like 'Stripes'. I went offline for a few minutes and when I came back online I told my friends his name was George Washington.

Daniel is mostly pink but has other pastel colors that look like watercolors. He's a unicorn. And a ketchain. And he's one of those dream lites, so he lights up. (He's supposed too anyway, but he's never lit up since i got him like 7 years ago at a yard sale).

Lucifer

Lucifer is a small panda pillow pet. Very easy to travel with bc he fits in most backpacks.

My mom told me she wanted me to have a stuffed animal with a biblical name, i picked him up, looked her in the eye and said "His name is Lucifer." My mom tried to protest. "You said a biblical name, Mom. Lucifer is in the bible."

Pao(???)

Pao is a panda. They are also a phone holder thingy. Like it'll hold your phone if you're watching movies or whatever.

Like 5-ish years old. Got them from a friend. They have a tag with their name on it, but I read it once and then just called them "the panda" for some reason instead of their actual name and now the tag is too faded to read the name, but i am 38% sure it says Pao or something close to that.

Tsuki

Tsuki is a dinosaur. Tsuki is a sparkly dino. He's green rn, but if you brush your hand over him, the sparkles turn over and he becomes orange. I like green tho bc his tummy and the bottom of his feet are orange and so are his eyes.

Hinata

Hinata is a narwhal. A bright orange narwhal. Infact he is the same color as Tenma's hair.

Named after Hinata Shoyo (Haikyuu) [bc its the same color as his hair. there is a theme with this narwhal and the anime boys i associate with them]

Yuki

Steve

Steve is a regular teddy bear, except he has a shirt that has pikachu on it. (the shirt was originally Tsuki's bc i got tsuki at a friends build a bear bday party, but it fits Steve better)

I just think Yuki would try new designs/color schemes/styles by making clothes for Steve to see how they look.

I got Steve from a claw machine (my bf at time won him for me just before we watched Endgame together.)

Muku

Eeyore

Muku most definitely loves the Winnie the Pooh movies and I will fite for this hc. He gets my Eeyore. You know how Eeyore's tail is always going missing or falling off??? Eeyore's tail comes off (velcro) but its attached to his actual body with a string so it cant be misplaced.

Eeyore has a patch that says "official disney store" but i got him for $3 at a thrift store.

Misumi

Sherlock

Sherlock is a polar bear. Sherlock is very huggable. He makes Misumi feel safe. He has a hat and scarf (that don't come off. they are sewn on him)

the hat has a pom pom on top and the scarf has a pom pom on each end. the hat and scarf and the bottom of his feet have a blue/white plaid pattern.

Kazunari

Victor

Victor is a puppy and the first big stuffed animal of mine on the list! He's all tan and abt maybe 3-4 ft long. Victor lays pretty flat so he's comfy to lay/sit on. I think Kazu would like sitting or laying on him when drawing. Probably has him on his bed so he's like a giant pillow.

Victor is from Toys R Us. I got him last August-ish from my Aunt and Uncle who found him at a thrift store and thought I'd like him.

Kumon

PJ is a small white tiger. He is also a ball. He can fit in one hand. When Kumon is thinking or stressed or bored (etc) he just lays on his back and tosses PJ up into the air.

When Kumon is laying on the floor tossing PJ, Misumi sits on the bed closest to where PJ is and tries to grab him (but only if Kumon is in a good mood and okay with it) It's a fun little game they made up they like to play.

Banri

Sammy

Sammy is another one of my large stuffed animals. He is also a puppy, but unlike Victor he is sitting instead of laying. He's abt 2-3 ft tall. His fur is the same color as Banri's hair. Great to squeeze at anytime, but very therapeutic when you're in a bad mood. Has a heart on his ear.

i got him abt 7 years ago. I had just finished spn season 2 and was upset abt the finale and had no way to start season 3.

Tiggs

Tiggs is a beanie baby tiger. Tiggs is a little larger than PJ (and not a ball). He's a regular orange tiger instead of a white tiger like PJ. He'd buy Kumon PJ so they could have matching stuffed animals. Small and very comforting to just hold/hug.

Omi

Benedict (Ben)

Benedict, also known as Ben, is a small koala. Just a little bigger than Tiggs. He has a heart on one of his feet (i think the right one). very soft. very fluffy.

Taichi

Dean

Dean is my largest stuffed animal. He is a dark brown teddy bear that's abt 4-ish ft tall. He can be put in a corner and used as like a bean bag chair, or he can lay down flat and be a good pillow like Victor can.

It's very fun to just wrap around him and squeeze as tight as you can. Especially in when your in a bad mood. Very comforting to cry into.

I got him a couple years ago at a thrift store.

Sakyo

Lev

Lev is a lion abt the size of a regular teddy bear (maybe slightly larger). I got him a thrift store so he's slightly worn out from age. He's mostly a pastel dark yellow-ish tan and his mane is dark brown. very huggable.

He's the stuffed animal I sleep with. Smells nice all the time, like the fabric softener.

Named after Lev Haiba (Haikyuu)

Sakoda

Emotional Support Iron Man

So Iron Man is small and he sparkles. He will hurt you/someone if thrown hard enough. Sakoda likes heroes bc they remind him of Sakyo they look cool. I'd hc that he got Iron Man from Sakyo when he was younger and its one of his most valued possessions and goes everywhere with him (or stays with Azamo or Sakyo at the dorm. Maybe Izumi or a couple others are on the list of who can watch over Iron Man.) Very protective of it.

Got the emotional support part of his name from a friend.

She saw Eddie Redmayne on a movie cover (think it was The Danish Girl) and started freaking out bc she loved him. I handed her the Iron Man and the next day she thanked me and said he was an Emotional Support Iron Man and the name stayed.

Azami

[Emotional Support] Spooder-Mon

Sakoda knew Azami as a kid. He most definitely got him the Spider-Man so they could have matching plushies.

Spider-Man is square and has little blob hands doing the web thingy. The tag said travel pillow, but he probably just chills by Azami's bed. When needed, Iron Man will be placed next to him if Sakoda can't take Iron Man with him.

I brought him to school one day and we had a bio test and all the people sitting around me passed him around and gave him a pat for good luck. We all got good grades and then he was dubbed as Emotional Support Spooder-Mon, but the Emotional Support title isnt part of his name (unlike the Iron Man).

Phil

Phil is a zebra. He is a pillow pet zebra. Like Lucifer, Phil is also easy travel size. The bottom half of Phil is pink, so I refer to him as my pink zebra.

I just think it'd be cute to have Tsumugi with a pillow pet ok. I also thought he'd probably have has Phil for many years (since he was a kid) and Tasuku most definitely brings up things from when they were kids and shit.

Tasuku

Cap

Cap is a husky. He was won from a claw machine with Steve.

There's just something abt the grey and white that gave me Tasuku vibes. Also, Cap's eyes are abt the same shade of blue as Tsumugi's and Tasuku knows this bc they are in love. Very squishy when hugged and with the way he sits, you could make it look like he's guarding something.

Homare

Ushijima (Ushi)

Ushijima, also called Ushi, is the last of my giant stuffed animals. He is abt 2-3 ft tall (like Sammy) and has a tail abt the same length.

Ushi is a raccoon thats mostly hot pink. Ushi's eyes are also pink and just abt the same shade as Homare's hair, although Ushi's fur is brighter by a few shades.

Ushi hurts when thrown/swung hard enough. Very fun to hug bc he's filled with beans (like beanie babies) so unlike all my other giant animals, he doesn't have to be fixed/adjusted after everytime you squeeze him. The tail has cotton tho and makes a good pillow.

Homare would definitely just see a 3 ft tall hot pink raccoon and claim it with no explanation.

Hisoka

Vladmir Dracula the 3rd (Vlad, Drac)

Vladmir Dracula the 3rd, who has many other names but usually goes by Vlad or Drac, is a vampire (surprise).

Vlad is a squishmallow thingy, and their tags say something abt them being able to be used as pillows, and thats why Hisoka gets Vlad.

Vlad is triangular in shape, with triangle ears, and triangle fangs, so I thought abt Misumi, but i figured Hisoka bc it's a pillow.

He's like the perfect travel size and he has a cape and a bowtie.

Named after Vlad the Impaler, the real life inspiration behind Dracula (my brother thought he was named after Vladmir Putin and I wanted to punch him for that but I was too busy laughing.)

Also named after Dracula, who was a vampire.

Idk where 'the 3rd' came from, but it's part of his name for forever.

Azuma

Sebastian

Sebastian is a dinosaur thats blue with a white tummy.

He's also a squishmallow, but he's bigger than Vlad by abt 2× as wide, so he'd be harder to carry around, which is why Hisoka got Vlad instead. Being a squishmallow means he looks more blob than dinosaur and i love it.

His tag said his name was Dominic or something, but I named him Sebastian before I actually checked the tag, so he's Sebastian.

Guy

Moriarty

Moriarty is my other polar bear. I got him with Sherlock and named him Moriarty bc Moriarty is Sherlock's nemesis.

He's just a plain white bear thats very huggable and adorable. I usually have a bowtie on him bc it makes him look fancy.

Guy would like him bc he's plain white and very fluffy.
