so now i got the main story of the last drawing i wanna talk about why i came with the idea of lithium spiderman and some of the quirks of it story and characters,
so yeah a fuck ton of explinations up ahead
Why i made it in the first place: outside of general fun of just making a spider man au (aus are always fun to imagine), it was because a comic i belive where spiderman and peter separater those type of stories always leave the idea of peter and spiderman as a thing that needs to coexist but it did keep me wonder we see a lot of peter not be able to cope with not having super powers, and the weight of the responsabilitie of not being a super hero has on him... but i feel there isnt a story where peter isnt... well peter dont get me wrong peter has to manage his spiderman life with his normal life (that is kinda the appeal of spiderman stories) but we rarely see why spiderman needs to be peter, why a version of peter that is just spiderman wouldnt be better without making spiderman over ego centric or out of character (in my opinion that is) of course the human element is always leave as garanted but i found intriguing the idea of a peter parker who only has his super hero style and has to learn to become peter parker, insted of the other way around
the story perse: story whise i imagine it would center around peter trying to get to norman osborn and destroy his military operations but in a more depper level it woud talk about how spiderman life style by itself is destructive over peters heath and mind untill he would have to relise (thanks to the help of black cat and other characters) the need of a normal life outside of being a super hero, learning the basics of how it is to have something outside of his "work" and learning to apreaciate the world better with his new friends (and a new identety)
little quirks: most of the villains of spiderman would have a more direct correlation with him being either old coworkers, long time enemies (before he turn on osborn) or people he has wrong in his past gwen is doctor optopus and had a crush on peter, she has conflicted feeling after his betrayal and becomes sortha of a rival for peter later on gwen also becomes venom trying to discover the spider syrium green goblin are osborn robots that he uses to hunt down peter, while he uses what he calls the orange goblin suit osborn has an ai assitant (similar to jarvis from ironman) who is secretly tying to over take him and is the principal responsible for controling the green goblin robots most villains and heroes have more tech base desing (tho not quite far future tech but futuristicish) black cat is mary jane and will be responsible to help peter adjust to his civilian life she is also a rockstar, that uses the info she gets from people in her circle to make her robberies j. jonah jameson was taken off his comapany after taking too much of a stand againts osborn, he was promtly remove and supposely assasinate but now as an annoyimous podcaster and blogger, he goes around berrating and getting information on osborn he is also the soul suporter of spiderman of this au, being a beliver in someone who attones for his wrongs to make a better future

Danny smiled from his place on the clocktower roof. He'd been in Gotham for a while now, two years to the day exactly, but he'd never get tired of the view. Sure, he hated not being able to see the stars at night, but there were worse things. He did make sure to leave the city every night to see them, though.
He liked being up high. It reminded him of, not simpler times, but times when he wasn't as alone. Jazz had made her way to Harvard, Tucker was MIT, and Sam was at Pomona. Danny was nowhere.
They say after he turned fourteen, he died. It, to say the least, wasn't a pleasant or painless death, though it didn't hurt past the initial shock and revival. When he was sixteen, he realized he wasn't aging. Sure, Danny Fenton aged until he was sixteen, but Danny Phantom stopped at fourteen. Good for keeping a secret identity, but horrible for wanting to half live normally.
The day after he turned eighteen, exactly four years after he died, Danny disappeared. He left everything behind and hid out in the one place he'd always said he'd avoid. It was the one place no one would look for him. The one place where he was just another face in the crowd.
Gotham City allowed Danny the anonymity that normally came with death. Instead of just another headstone in the graveyard or a body in the harbor, though, he was just another kid on the streets in a busted hoodie and jeans. No one looked twice and no one asked questions.
In the two years he's spent on the streets of Gotham, he's learned a lot. Survival was something all humans are born with, but growing up with neglectful parents amplified that instinct. Dying and becoming an unwilling hero honed those instincts. Living in Gotham gave him a chance to learn more.
Learning the lay of the land was another thing he learned very quickly. Batman is over all of Gotham except for Crime Alley. That's Red Hood's haunt. Gotham Proper was split into blurry lines and shared between Batman and Robin, Red Robin, Orphan, and Spoiler. Nightwing is over Gotham's sister city, Bludhaven. Signal is the only day shift, so he had the most ground to cover in the least amount of time.
Of course, the Rouge's all had their own territories drawn with hard, barely flexible, lines. Black Mask was really the only one to breach those lines by trying to take Crime Alley, but Red Hood had been keeping him in check.
Learning the rules for each territory and how to interact with each person, Rouge or Vigilante, took time, but he managed. His own experiences had probably helped with that.
The next thing Danny had mapped out was where the neutral stations were. Every territory had them. They were places no one attacked because the important ones have standards. In Crime Alley, it's The Club. In Penguin's area, it's the Iceberg Lounge. Ivy marked off Robinson Park. Etcetera. The Joker is really the only major Rouge without a neutral mark on his map, but that's because he's more of an asshole than the rest. An asshole with standards, but an asshole nonetheless.
Very few of those neutral areas were available to spend the night in. Even fewer we're hiring. So, the homeless population of Gotham City stuck to the streets and back alleys.
However, there were two places Danny knew he could go where he'd be safe from scrutiny if someone looked too close at him. The Club in Crime Alley where all the working girls and boys checked in and reported any Bad Johns or Bad Janes, and The Iceberg Lounge in the richer parts of Gotham.
The clocktower was where Danny liked to spend his nights when the streets were too loud and the lights too bright and the fights too close for comfort. Oracle, who was Batman's eye in the sky and ear to the ground, worked from the clocktower, but he made sure to avoid her. It wasn't easy with what's basically super hearing that he can't turn off, but he found a spot near the very top where he could block out all Bat Business. Plausible deniability and all that.
Danny misses the stars. He misses being able to peek his head out of his bedroom window and name of each constellation he could see. He can't do that in Gotham because of the light pollution that clung to the sky like black mold. It was part of the reason he'd sworn to never go to Gotham.
There are Shades in Gotham. Shadows of people who have died but aren't quite ready to move on. He helps them as best he can, but there's so many that he sometimes feels like he's cutting off a Hydra's head. He gets to see results, though. Some days the parks are more colourful, the clouds have drifted enough to let natural sunlight through, and the graveyards are buzzing with thankful energy.
Danny forwent the thought of trying to get a job a while ago. As far as the world is concerned, Danny Fenton is missing, likely dead. Being dead, in case it wasn't well known, is a legal barrier. Sure, most jobs in Gotham didn't do background checks, but Danny didn't really want to join the Goonion. He's just fine living on the streets.
Ectoplasm is scarce compared to Amity Park, but that's to be expected. Besides, the miasma crushing the city like a weighted blanket was enough to sustain his basic abilities. Food was a bit harder to come by, but, like sleep, he could survive longer without it than a living being can. If anyone were to ever ask - though the likelihood of anyone even finding out - how he was alive, his answer was "Photosynthesis, but for ghosts."
Danny liked being just Danny. No name, no responsibilities outside of keeping himself alive.
Danny Fenton, the loser nerd who fell to the bottom of all his classes, who's obsessed with space and everything in it, who could tell you exactly how long it would take to get from Earth to Betelgeuse and back, is dead. He died the day after he turned fourteen.
Danny Phantom, the hatefully loved vigilante who appeared with the throngs of ghosts, who grew more powerful with every fight, who won more fights than he thought he could because there was no other option, is gone. He disappeared after exactly four years.
Danny just exists. He lives on the streets of Gotham City, staying away from trouble because he learned how to recognize it as soon as he could walk. He loves space and finds every opportunity he can to get out and watch the stars and moon and planets. He likes heights because being up that high reminds him of when he was living and not just surviving. Was there really a difference anymore? He hangs out in graveyards and the docks because the dead are so much more tolerable than the living.
Danny liked being just Danny because Danny doesn't have the world of Infinite Realms and Possabilities on his shoulder.
Danny likes to be able to just be for once.

Astro observations (October 2022: part 1)
Tumblr media
Sun in aries in 1st house (aries ascendant+sun in 1st house) men make YouTube videos as a hobby. They are also egoistic and self centered in a materialistic way.
Saturn in 9th house is the hallmark of PhD scholar. These natives always have a higher education degree and stay in college for a long time.
Saturn in 9th house natives also are born into super religious family but when they grow up they become atheists and start to explore their own philosophy.
Moon in 3rd house natives love to text, talk on phone call a lot. You can find them chatting with someone most hours of their day.
Sun in aries natives especially men are prone to be fuckboys and date many girls by way of manipulation. Most of the girls are in young age because these men are attracted to physical looks. They show a sense of entitlement too when it comes to dating young girls without any remorse for what they do. It also happens that they act this way to feel masculine because of their moms being very controlling and infantilizing them. So they use girls to feel powerful and strong. This is the case of immature ones btw. A mature aries native man plays sports to feel strong and powerful. Instead of using girls, he uses physical activities like sports to be competitive and ego boost.
Immature Aries natives men also use girls for ego boost and not really for emotional connection or partnership. They date many girls for attention and ego boost. Scorpio girls can be perfect target for them because these girls give doormat people pleasing energy. These girls can be codependendent that Aries men like as being "needed" as a hero.
Sun in 12th house natives have an unavailable father owing to his work or personality or death. But these natives have an imagination of their father figure in their head that they tend to idealize. Despite father being absent they don't really worry about it because emotionally they feel connected to an ideal father figure.
Sun in 12th house natives also grow up in a large household, usually a big house with riches and resources. A comfort childhood although absent father. They have a rich imagination life too.
Moon in 8th house natives in whichever sign are prone to self realize and enlighten in their lives. When they discover the impact of their mother's behaviour and that their mother had personality disorder/emotional instability. These natives also carry the learned behaviours from their mother unconsciously. They will reach self awareness and change themselves during the time period of the dispositor of 8th house.
How to see which area of your life will be active with astro? Check out the Vimshottari dasha chart. Any good website is fine. Whichever planet is running its Mahadasha--find in your birth chart where its sign is placed. For eg, if you're running mercury mahadasha, check out which houses are occupied by Gemini and Virgo. Now, which planets are placed in these houses? Check out the signs of these planets and in which house they are placed. You can then check out antardasha as well. And so on.
Sun in 7th house natives lack self esteem. They cant stand being alone. Always needing to be around others and especially being in romantic relationship. In the early days of dating, they will attract narcissists in their life, especially if the 1st house is empty too. Then they will mature and find self esteem. Even then they will attract self centered partners but there will not be ego clashes because natives have matured already.
Sun in 7th house natives find themselves through reflection in other people. They don't know who they are until they project their own unconscious personality traits on other people and see what clicks with them.
Sun in 7th house or 10th house are a good position for public service career.
Saturn in 8th house can be a really sad placement. Being a karmic planet in a karmic house is a combination that leads to delays, hardships, poor quality of life, emotional stagnant, fear of occult, fear of transformation, ageing faster than usual, prolonged disease, sudden life transformations.
All moon in 8th house natives can unite for psychological studies, spiritual insights and being perceptive of emotions. They do really like to talk about psychological topics with their peers.

I can’t view Batman/Bruce as a real hero
So I’ve gotten into DC recently, or more specifically I’ve gotten into the Batfam, and the more I learn about Bruce Wayne the harder it is for me to look to him as a hero.
I’ll preface all this by saying I have consumed very little DC content, so if something I say is not actually canon pls let me know.
It started when I learned that this man seemingly has an absolute no kill rule. Not a “I try to avoid killing and only do it when absolutely necessary” rule, but a “I refuse to kill anyone no matter the circumstances” rule. I honestly hate this because it’s not effective in any way. Take the Joker for example, Batman has to fight him over and over again because they simply cannot seem to keep that man in prison and Batman won’t kill him or let anyone else do it. I think this is because he wants to believe that anyone can change, and they can, but just because they CAN doesn’t mean that they WILL. People have to choose to change and the Joker has had like 30 chances to do so, yet he continues to kill innocent people. How many innocents have to die before someone acknowledges that the Joker will never choose to be a better person and finally decide to do what’s necessary to protect everyone? They either need to find a way to keep him in jail or just take him out.
This got worse when I learned about Jason Todd. Here you have a poor boy taken in by Bruce, who idealizes him and views him as a father, and when he gets kidnapped, tortured, and murdered by the Joker he dies alone. When he is brought back to life, he’s mad at Bruce, not because Bruce didn’t save him, but Bruce didn’t kill the Joker to avenge him. Because Bruce didn’t love him more than he loved Justice. Hell, even on his grave, “A good soldier”. I’ve seen ppl say that maybe he didn’t say son because he didn’t want to erase their family ties and the kids never took his last name and sure, I get that. But putting a good soldier instead? He didn’t have to do that. Jason wasn’t a soldier, he was a little boy. It seems like Bruce forgets that about the Robins sometimes. (None of this is even getting into my feelings about Bruce taking in multiple children and having them fight crime, literally risking their lives every night but then this rant would be even longer)
And apparently Bruce fucking decks Dick because Dick was asking him why he let him become Robin before he was ready? Bro cannot take any criticism for his actions I swear. I mean, even if he never officially adopts them (I’m very confused on that tbh) he does still view them as his kids. He still helped raise them. After all, they were all underage when he met them and took them in. So to straight up deck your eldest and tell him to get out literally right after your other kid was murdered solely because he questioned you is actually wild.
Then you have the whole batarang incident, which just makes me question his morals more because he’s got the whole “no killing whatsoever” thing going on but then decides, “I won’t kill the man who murdered my son and countless other innocents, but I can and will slit my son’s throat and leave him for dead.” Like, HUH??? Also, didn’t Dick accidentally kill the Joker once and Bruce went out of his way to REVIVE HIM? Honestly feels like Bruce has some weird relationship with the Joker cause he seems to care about him more than anything. LET THAT MONSTER DIE!
I saw someone say that they thought the “no killing” thing wasn’t effective but was accurate to Bruce’s character because his vigilanteism isn’t actually mainly about helping but about punishing himself for what happened to his parents. And if you kill the villains when you need to, you can’t keep punishing yourself through fighting them. Like a self-sabotage thing. I thought that was super interesting but it would also just go along with him not being a truly effective hero, cause he won’t make the hard calls that are sometimes needed.
In conclusion, while I am sure Bruce has done good for people, it’s hard to see him as a truly effective hero (or a good person/father for that matter) when he does stuff like this.

I've been struggling...so...hard...to maintain motivation with the biopunk WIP, which is approaching its 6th anniversary of Being In My Brain. I'm forever cycling back to "okay but what if your worldbuilding is boring and no one cares about the story you have to tell in this world and it sucks"
but right now i'm just...rereading it. and I wanted to share some of the worldbuilding concepts okay
tl;dr: the setting is The Future, post-apocalyptic, but the previous ("our") civilization and the immediate aftermath is an almost mythological past, an age of heroes and prophets, but people KNOW there was Real History, but everything that far back is kinda fuzzy and debatable.
this book is supposed to seriously fuck with your head in terms of the divide between sci-fi and fantasy and the divide between "science/knowledge" and "religion/myth."
The worldbuilding is DEEPLY steeped in spirituality, folklore, and religion, sacredness and the afterlife and other spiritual concepts like that are very REAL to the characters, and i'm trying to deal with it Very Respectfully and make it clear that these people are not superstitious or stupid.
(Everyone is also kind of a "mutt" spiritually/religiously which is super funny. The vibe is like, there are a lot of people who aren't super serious about religion but they are super serious about ghosts being real and if a priest is no help they'll go find a shaman.)
One of the main characters is non-binary. The philosophy and spirituality of gender in this world is discussed and it's neat. This character is also an archetypal Trickster in every sense and I won't say much more yet but they're probably my favorite character I've ever written AAAAAAAAA
i'm working so, so hard to express characters' understanding of "sci-fi stuff" like technology and scientific concepts in language that culturally makes sense to them, and it is SO fun. especially when I get to express science fiction stuff in "mythological" terminology
e.g. genetic engineering: "They unwound and read the scrolls within living cells. Mortals learned the forbidden language of Life." Like DNA is described as an arcane/magical "language" (The Inmost Language or the language of Life) but nothing said about it is exactly wrong. at one point the main character meets a character with unnaturally golden hair created by genetic engineering and MC is thinking "the institute scribes did that. wrote gold gold shiny gold shiny bright gold in her cells to tell her hair to do that." this book is FULL of stuff like this
There's a major religion centered around a prophet that heard the voices of the dead and wrote down their teachings.
If you're not paying attention, you will get bitchslapped by the reveal that this is literally what happened: there was a vault, think "nuclear waste warning messages," where recordings containing important information for future humans were stored, and someone found it and shared the information with others. stuff like "wash your hands to stop disease from spreading" and "don't be racist" kinda got turned into religious teachings that occasionally seem weird, even backward.
There is another big one where it's like "there was a prophecy that civilization would perish in rising water..." and it's like okay, this myth is Noah's flood. NO BITCH IT'S CLIMATE CHANGE. But also yes.
Wolves have kinda migrated into being a mythological animal that symbolizes death. One character knows they really existed and can't stop themselves from correcting other people about it but everyone else just thinks it's funny that they think wolves are real
there's a people group in this story that is...I guess "indigenous-coded" is the right word? and a lot of the worldbuilding surrounding their culture will fuck with your head so good because you, as the reader, are a cultural outsider and your understanding of their culture changes but is never 100% accurate
e.g. this culture has a taboo surrounding personal names where in all but the most intimate relationships and interactions you call others by descriptive 'nicknames' based on what you observe about the person, what you want them to know that you notice, etc. There is a TON of cultural meaning in WHAT you decide to call someone and it can be a power play or something that gives the other person a lot of information about your intentions. But basically the full "meaning" of the taboo and when it's appropriate/normal to use a personal name is never exactly clarified. But for a while as a reader you're just taking the piss because there's a scene where a character dramatically "reveals" his "real" name and it's very serious and emotional at the time but as the story goes on and you know more, it becomes clear that he was just fucking lying
i'm putting so much effort into streamlining how characters word things, making slang roll off the tongue and SOUND and feel natural and intuitive, making the technologies feel as normal as any technology we have around us.
like. most lighting is bioluminescent. But I'm not gonna point out bioluminescent lighting because who walks into a room and notices that the lights are electric. what you would notice is old electric bulbs with spiderwebs on them vs. new LED lights, and that's richer and more detail-laden stuff.
and after SO much hard work the descriptions feel so lush and rich and crunchy. I'm making it sound all Complex. It's fun. It's REALLY fun. there are zombies.
I've worldbuilt the most random things. I've invented a bunch of bioengineered cat breeds for this book. I made up a sport where goats race up a wooden pyramid and try to stay on top for the longest period and wrote a kentucky derby style narration for it. I designed a bobbit worm themed dress. not to mention. all the elaborate names for female criminals such as Gory Gertrude.

Final (for now :3c) lineup of Stilti and their AU selves !
More info under the cut !
STILTIKYU (CANON TADC)
The classic! Just another human trapped in the Digital World, who took the form of a 9'5'' tall humanoid stilt quadruped, perhaps struggling with being rigid and distant in her previous life now manifested physically. Yes, they're actually part of her body. No, she can't bend at where her joints should be. Being so tall has its advantages and disadvantages, as does the radical acceptance approach they brought with her from whatever therapy sessions she must have been attending before joining the circus (read more about her coping mechanisms and the drawbacks!). Creative at heart but with limbs now incapable of visual art, they distract herself from the phantom pains pass time singing and dancing, and puts her all into the performance aspects of the circus, though they still enjoy participating in the adventures from time to time. Also, while not nearly as bad as Jax (she’s not one to invade personal space or use sensitivities/phobias as jokes towards someone once she’s aware that’s what they are), they do enjoy poking fun and teasing others. Essentially at most their aim is to lightheartedly annoy or confuse rather than shock or hurt (read more about her relationships with the rest of the cast!).
"It is what it is. I'm not going to let all this eat away at whatever's left of me, but just..ignoring when I'm not feeling okay isn't any better for me. If you want to bury yourself in your little shell as protection, I can't and won't stop you. Just surviving isn't living, though."
STILTILITH (RINGMASTER AU)
Basically Stilti takes canon Caine's role as an AI ringmaster of the Amazing Digital Circus! Even her name in this AU is a biblical reference like his (but to Lilith instead of Cane!). Because she's in charge she has more control of her form than regular Stilti, and therefore has functioning limb privileges. She can also float like regular Caine but prefers to walk around because she finds it more elegant even though to the others it's probably just unsettling. On the surface Stiltilith's demeanour is calmer than Caine's and more mature than Stiltikyu's, but she can be equally as much of a menace in the right situation. It's all in playful fun, though, even if it doesn't come across that way due to her not being human. They're doing their best to learn about human emotions and social conventions and take a lot of pride in their job. Have you ever seen the movie Coraline? Stiltilith is like if the other mother really wasn't evil; they're trying her best to make the humans that enter the program happy with everything they could want, but ultimately falling short of fulfilling their actual needs due to not being human.
"You want to go home..? Silly, this is your new home now! ..hm, well, what can I do to make it just as good? Better, even! After all, since you can't leave, it's the least I ca...oh, come now, there's no need to cry..there there..I'll see what I can whip up.."
OPPOSITE AU (Belongs to campbell_soup70 on Instagram!)
Pretty self explanatory! Rather than skipping every stage of grief right to acceptance, this Stilti probably endlessly cycles through the first four without ever arriving at the final one. That is, when she isn't completely paralyzed by her absolute lack of capacity for dealing with their current situation. Without intervention, they probably won't last long.
"....................."
CARNIVAL AU (Belongs to @/sm-baby)
Keeping with the concept of the cast being evolved, boss-like forms of their usual counterparts, Carnival Stilti ("The Metronome") goes all in on the musical/dancing aspects of her personality. Her game is arcade themed, especially rhythm games like DDR and guitar hero; maybe a bit of karaoke elements in there too. She's not super aggressive in comparison to some of the other AIs, but she takes themself very seriously and probably becomes more volatile if she feels as if the player isn't meeting her standards. Basically thoughts and prayers to any users with a bad sense of tempo and/or who sings or plays off key. Her collar is shaped like a voice box and they speak/sing similarly to a vocaloid, with more roboticism/distortion the more emotional they get.
"Hmmmmm~. ♫ Come on, that's not the best you could do, was it?~ ♪ Let's try again. No flat notes or missed steps this time, kay? 4, 3, 2~!♩"
CORRUPTION AU (Belongs to /rabid-mercenary15)
Unfortunately it was likely only a matter of time until Stilti got caught by one of her corrupted co-stars..while she may be agile and quick, her avatar isn't the best at fitting through small spaces or hiding behind much of anything..they now roam around like a mindless beast, occasionally making unworldly screeching and groaning noises, a far cry from their previous singing..still, it seems old habits do in fact die hard, however warped they may become. One of the more docile of the virally-infected, the best chance at deescalating an encounter with them is music. She's drawn to and is soothed by singing and playing instruments. Of course, now the problem is her following the source of it, but hey, at least they aren't attacking! Try backing away slowly until you get to an area they can't follow due to her colossal size. Or, set up a radio/windup music box somewhere else as a diversion and get away while they're distracted! Even if they see or hear you while you're doing so, as long as the music is still playing, they'll be too enamoured with it to care.

FREAKSHOW AU (belongs to @/hootbon)
Freakshow Stilti is all of regular Stiltikyu’s worst aspects exaggerated and potentials accelerated, basically the worst possible version of themself that lives on even more of a wire than she already is in canon verse. Walking on eggshells is second nature - at least she has great balance, even with her disfunctional limbs! Mind the splinters! While both versions of them are resigned to the hopelessness of their situation, Regular Stilti would compare hers to purgatory whereas Freakshow Stilti would (internally) compare theirs to hell. The first thing Caine did when she arrived was break her arms and legs - this was to give her flexibility for their new role as “Contortionist”, but the permanent trauma and chronic pain they also received was of no concern to him outside of frustration with her “attitude” (AKA screaming, then crying, then a paralysis-like freeze response, which was highly unproductive), but an unacceptable lack of cooperation was nothing corrective measures couldn’t reeducate. Seemingly, it worked: nowadays she’s all silly smiles, singing and practicing her performance routines off-hours for fun. What dedication! Isn’t it nice they chose to be such a team player? Well, whatever. With that twist on the same acceptance their regular TADC counterpart has, there’s also the similar (albeit darker) self awareness. She may be resigned to their existence but she’s not avoidant to its realities. On the surface they’re on Promised Neverland levels of copium and outwardly detached completely from their emotions and the horrific events that routinely surround them. However, while her persona may come across as delusional, everything they do is on her own terms. Their hyper-vigilance, a torturously anxiety-ridden constant of being, has also been her biggest tool for- well, not surviving, they’ve died plenty of times..-persisting, let’s say. Their preferred choices in strategies can all be categorized as some form of Freeze, while their last choice would be Fight, in order avoid potentially unwinnable situations. Still…we’d like to still think we have principles, but in the face of self preservation, it gets easier to abandon them. Though not their go-to, there definitely are and will be times they choose Flight or Fawn instead. Generally outside of shows, she keeps a low profile. They do their best to keep expectations of her reasonable, with not so much that they’d attract needless attention (not to mention be even more stress to maintain), but not so little it would inconvenience anyone, or god forbid, give the impression that they’re not pulling their own weight. Over time, she’s learnt all the things they have no power over and the few she does, namely their own mind. Dignity is a luxury in a place like this but integrity is something they can only take if she chooses to give it to them, and stooping to their level yields the exact same result as unwillingly being pulled down. “None of this is real” is also little reassurance in a realm where you can still experience the sensation of physical pain (not to mention psychologically directly), but “take whatever you can get in this place” was another quickly learned lesson and that includes comforts, so the fact that everything is “just” in a video game is one of many tools in Stilti’s arsenal of dissociation. They overall have attitude of “if there’s no meaning, they’ll make up her own - to them, that’s better than looking for something that isn’t there” Is it denial if it’s a conscious decision? Who knows!
An area that Freakshow Stilti is basically completely different from her canon verse counterpart is that she doesn’t crave nor seek out connection with others the way Regular Stilti does. This is likely a result of both her detachment methods in other areas, as well as a mutual lack of trust with the other members since she’s experienced and witnessed first hand plenty of times that they’re all incapable of actually relying on and helping each other. Still being a Stilti, though, part of her will always want to - she’s somewhat “attached” to others who have been personally victimized by the ringleader, possibly out of empathy or a perceived “connection” from the shared experience. However, when attempting to build bridges have an inevitably lethal outcome, she knows better than to have their hopes up in ways her other self will fortunately never have to fathom coming to terms with. That being said, not worrying about any relationships having strong foundations makes it a lot easier to have a devil-may-care attitude towards her peers and how they perceive them, so when combined with feeling her emotions more strongly in moments they’re not being actively repressed, Freakshow Stilti is a lot more unrestrained expressing her infatuation for those like Gangle and Ragatha, or contempt for those like Jax. The AI are of course the exception to this - any interaction with Caine and Aingle is with a permanently awestruck pokerface. Maybe, in some areas, that sentiment is genuine - after all, if she wasn’t impressed on some level by their technical abilities, authentically expressing respect for them as “superiors” would be impossible not to come across as tepid or overboard, both unconvincingly.
"Are you crying?...Oh, no, I don't do that anymore. Bad for my voice, you know? How about we sing instead?"

okay listen man. listen. i was gonna make a big formal epic post but i feel like this gets explained constantly by everybody and yet the point is still constantly missed by even some of the same people who explain it
the entire point of mike’s character is that we are supposed to be in his shoes. mike is the odd one out. mike is the one who doesn’t fit in the supernatural storyline. but he doesn’t fit in with society either. he has nowhere he feels like he belongs.
so many people around him fit in with society. they can be accepted there — they can be cool and have value there. mike can’t. mike doesn’t fit in with society because he’s gay. it’s a very real, very human problem for us. mike will never fit in with society because of how they view him, so he’s always turned to fantasy and comics because he thinks he can fit in there only to find out he can’t
he finally gets to live a real life comic book with super heroes and dark villains only to find out he isn’t the main character he thought he would be. he doesn’t have el’s powers (superman) or even nancy’s ability to gather informaion (louis lane) so where does he fit? he views el as this unreal, amazing superhero he always wanted to be as a kid because then it would be okay for him to not fit in. if he couldn’t be that, then at least he could be someone who doesn’t fit in with society but fits in with superheroes, right?
but it doesn’t work like that. even further than just el or nancy, he can’t be brave like will or strong like lucas or smart like dustin — he doesn’t see how much he adds to the story because he’s constantly just watching. nobody ever tells him how important he is.
the entire point of mike’s story is learning that he doesn’t have to fit in anywhere to be good. he doesnt have to fit society’s standards or be some superhero or fit in with hellfire (ex: dressing like eddie). he doesn’t have to fit in at all and he can still be good.
mike is ugly. mike is queer. mike doesn’t have superpowers and he won’t ever be popular. and none of that matters, because what makes him special doesn’t fit in any sort of standard or expectation — its that he never stops trying. he never gives up. mike will fight till the day he dies for the people he loves and that is what makes him special. he will take people by the hand and drag them out of the dark. he will keep giving people a reason to fight and keep fighting when they’re done.
mike is special because of how he loves. he’s not worthy because of any sort of idea of speciality. it’s his qualities that make him special and them alone. he just needs to learn to love those parts of himself in order to really, truly become the person he wants to be. he needs to stop wishing he were like lucas or nancy or el and start just loving and being himself.
every time we hype mike up or talk him down, we are like him too. we can be who we want to be if we start loving and being ourselves instead of reaching for these unattainable goals set by both the normal people AND the freaks.
that’s the point of mike’s character.

Ladybug dies how
peacefully in her sleep at the ripe old age of 94 NAYYYYY IM SORRY
Assuming youre here cuz koby told you to come and yell at me for doing this and id like to say first of all im very sorry i just love tragedy soooo much. koby got really mad at me when i first brought up the idea and it also tortures me horribly too And we also talk a lot about the alternate universe where she doesnt die and instead she and casey just move to new york and hang out and get married and Chill Out
but in the "canon" ending im sorry yes nell dies (ducking rocks and bricks) IMMM SORRY! She's subject to the hereditary blue beetle curse of dying in a fight tragically young (she jumped in front of the metaphorical bullet for jaime on account of he's exempt because he has a much healthier support system than other beetles)
i'm a hack so i haven't really drawn or written anything concrete about it but how it goes down in my mind is your classic event/crisis where all the heroes are mobilised to fight off the annual universe destroying threat. this time it's aliens of some kind and while the league and the rest of the important guys are up there fighting or negotiating or punching the universe or however this particular one gets solved, ladybug is down on the ground in gotham helping to evacuate people and deal with some alien scouts/robots/etc that are menacing civilians. (casey has already been evacuated and is safely sheltering underground with a bunch of other civilians, being checked in on every now and then by some flash or another, & her general attitude is UGH Can you idiots get this sorted out so we can order chinese and watch real housewives...)
it happens while ladybug is getting a family to safety and an alien scout lands on the roof of their apartment. he ushers them downstairs and to his credit does a good job of holding off the attacker while the civilians get out of there - nell has no powers but is a very competent fighter and also is decked out with plenty of kordtech gadgets to help even the playing field :] but it's been a long day and she's so exhausted and there's only so much you can do when an alien shoots you in the chest with a laser and flies away and leaves you to bleed out
so there's nell with her communications down & unable to move & lying there staring at the sky full of invading spaceships and flying superheroes... if she could get someone's attention she might be okay but everyone is busy. it's a crisis! and nell knows that, she knows what this whole business is like, and she's been ready for something like this to happen for a while. nell is a very confident person but she isn't deluded about her own mortality... it's part of her personal philosophy that it's cruel to have too many attachments if you're likely to die horribly young (a mentality learned from the death of her mother and refined by the death of ted kord) so isnt it great that she doesnt have many friends? and that she's on okay terms but not super close with her family? and that casey doesnt actually care about her at all and wont be affected by her untimely death past the inconvenience of finding a new place to live?
lol
at the end of it all nell isn't really that upset about dying... they went out doing something worthwhile, they saved lives, they did the best they could with what they had, and they made a positive impact on the world while they were here. and that's about what he's always wanted to achieve so hey a+ work ladybug! obviously its not like he WANTS to die, theres always more to do, things he's going to miss... he'll miss talking to ted, working on gadgets and sorting through problems and making him laugh... he'll miss his family obviously but they'll be fine without him... michelle is someone she hadn't expected to get so close to, but she and ted both have booster to keep them on track
really annoyingly as she's closing her eyes the person who keeps coming into her mind though is casey. At this point nell is pretty aware that she cares about casey more than she ever planned or wanted to and has done a lot of mental gymnastics to convince herself that it's fine that nothing ever came of it (and now nothing ever will) and in her last moments she reassures herself that it's onesided and casey doesn't love her and he'll be fine without nell and You did a great job at not forming attachments ladybug that's why you're the best! but she can't help the surge of intense regret and fuuuuuck what if it was different and what if what if.........
here's my primo ladybug dying on a roof song
Nell's fatal flaw will always be her self-reliance and conviction that she's doing things the right way despite it all. if she bothered to communicate with the people in her life then she might be swayed on her views on love, or if she was less stupidly independent then maybe she would have been working with another hero and wouldn't have been in this situation. but that's tragedy i suppose, knowing how a character could have escaped their fate and yet having to accept that in this scenario with this set of rules there was no other way for this to happen
anyway if you'd prefer to think about nell alive and happy living in new york with casey then please do that. It's easy and free and it makes me smile

🫀The Heart's Savior.
Guys, we have come to the end, but how is it that they say? The end of something will be the beginning of something else. There will always be so much to say about Yamcha and I don't want to stop that soon. For now I would like all Dragon Ball fans to consider this topic, not because I wrote it. I am well aware that I am not the first person to talk about it, and I am glad that someone other than me has noticed, but in Yamcha's case it is never enough. The more the merrier! Even at the cost of repeating ourselves…. It doesn't matter! In latin they used to say repetita iuvant, meaning that something by dint of being repeated is eventually learned. Can it stew? Maybe. But it's still better than keeping quiet, right? And I believe that all of us Yamcha fans have a sacred right to protect one of the most misunderstood and unnecessarily mistreated characters ever.
Well, it's time to begin, but before we go into the last, most important chapter, I would like to remind you one last time of the previous two parts, so that we have a clearer and more obvious situation. I mean, at this point it's really impossible to ignore that Yamcha is useless. PART 1: The Past PART 2: The Present
PART 3: The Future
It is no accident that I wanted to divide the topic in a temporal sense. As I had said at the beginning, in the Androids and Cell Arc, Yamcha has seriously contributed to improving the past, the present and the future. He didn't fight with his muscular body, but by bringing the resounding strength of his heart into play, he made sense of Dragon Ball's most important chapter. At least it is the most important to me. Not only because it is the first and only time the warriors are really all together, but also because this is where the story begins to expand with the appearance of alternate realities. Everyone does their own thing, and while I regret that Yamcha was not given a real action moment in which to shine (with the exception of the fight against that Cell Junior together with Tien to save Goku), I'm still glad that in the same arc in which Toriyama tried to completely sideline him, Yamcha left his mark. And believe me, it is a very important mark.
We could say that Yamcha saved everyone's mood, everyone's heart, everyone's soul…. The meaning will always be the same. We are not on Planet Vegeta, where everyone is callous and devoid of humanity. We are on Earth, on that planet that made Goku an outstanding saiyan and especially the protagonist everyone has loved for years. This means that if you can't feel pure emotions, you can't go anywhere. You can't even get on the Flying Nimbus! We learned this with OG Dragon Ball: if you don't act from the heart and for the heart, you certainly won't make a good end. This is what Jackie Chun/Muten Roshi explains to Tenshinhan when he tries to convince him to abandon the path of evil and take the path of good. It was an important teaching, and it saddens me that Akira Toriyama has completely forgotten it since forty years later he has failed to reward the character who most of all was a living heart.
Tumblr media
If you think about it, this is really Goku's strong point: his heart. In the beginning he always acted for the sake of someone else: he wanted to look for the dragon ball with four stars because it reminded him of his grandfather, then he collected them all to bring Upa's father back to life, then again to save Krillin, Muten and Chiaotzu. Always thanks to his heart he became a Super Saiyan for the first time and thanks to his good feelings he was able to save the earth many times. So it is really his heart that made him legendary. It is because of it that he was able to go on, become stronger and be the ultimate hero. ...So... Why should Yamcha be any less? He is a human, so what? He possesses superhuman strength. There is nothing different from a saiyan awakening his feelings. Both of them go against the grain. They are two sides of the same coin. Whatever...
To recap:
Yamcha saved the past. He has taken care of Goku since he was little, helped him when Goku's innocence hindered him, always supported him, and always stepped forward whenever he was in danger of getting hurt. Finally, he took care of his heart, the most important core of Goku's character, during his illness.
Yamcha saved the present. While everyone feared the worst or simply struggled without much success, Yamcha was always ready to comfort and warm that chill that could have turned the present into Trunks' horrible future. He took care of Tien, or at least he would have liked to, then Gohan and finally Krillin, helping him to hope on his chance with Android 18. It seems little, but in everyday life such a turnaround is more important than a victory against an invincible monster. After all... What remains when peace returns?
Although The Past and The Present show how big Yamcha's heart is, we still have to admit that up to now he has taken care of his friends. This is an easy thing to do. I mean, any human with a heart of gold would do all this for someone he loves, but Yamcha's value goes beyond that. After all, it is when you leave your comfort zone that you truly realize how much you are worth, and that is what I am referring to when I say that Yamcha has been the strongest of all. Nietzsche once said:
Love your enemies because they bring out the best in you.
It's true. By loving those who hate you, those who have hurt you or simply those who do not appreciate you, you become incredibly better, because you can overcome the evil you get and make it your strength in a sense.
That's exactly what Yamcha does, but you know, I even believe that he doesn't do it completely to feel better. I think he does it because he knows how to love. That's always the point: by knowing how to love he automatically knows how to forgive and overcome the hatred that he would have the right to feel. Therefore, dear friends, today we will talk about how Yamcha cared even for those whom he was not bound to love for different reasons. I want to say this will be the part that will touch me the most. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be sentimental as hell but I can't help it. Yamcha is a treasure chest of emotions and I want to express them just as he would. To talk about what follows means first of all having to come to terms with the most humiliating thing of all: Yamcha and Bulma's breakup. I don't want to dive into details, not in this topic, but what I do want to point out is that for me Yamcha never cheated on Bulma.
Tumblr media
Look at him. One who has cheated would not react like that. You can see that he is pissed off and disappointed, rather than mortified or distressed about the mistake he made. I am more accepting of the speculation that Bulma simply preferred Vegeta, although here we open a big digression about yet another writing problem in Dragon Ball. Consequently, as I see it, Yamcha suffered the breakup as a real tragedy, came out as a victim of it, and therefore his heart was severely wounded by it. With these things in mind, it is logical to think that what we see from this point on is literally a saint-made man, because not only does Yamcha accept the new reality with Bulma, but he even stays by her side to continually watch over her until the end of DBZ.
Tumblr media
Once again Yamcha stays. He is there, he does not back down, and with his head held high he faces the greatest disappointment of his life, because without ever forgetting this we must consider that his goal was (is) always love. He strongly desired to marry Bulma and have children with her, but in the end she chose to do this with the one who had once killed her boyfriend.
Tumblr media
Heartbroken and disillusioned, Yamcha would have many reasons for never speaking to Bulma again. Yet he does. He stays close to her, and in facing this great humiliation he proves not only that he has that usual big heart, but also that he is seriously better than those who treated him as if he were worthless. Yeah, I am really talking about Vegeta. I hope I am not annoying any Vegeta fans, but believe me, for any Yamcha fan it is impossible to accept certain attitudes that the saiyan prince had with the earthling.
Don't worry, though. I am not going to denigrate a character to glorify Yamcha. It's not my style and frankly he doesn't need it. He already shines on his own, it's just that unfortunately his brightness is obscured by super energy attacks. I will simply show the evidence, but more importantly I will talk about how Yamcha loved even Vegeta and Trunks.
Actually, why he helped Trunks should not surprise us. Trunks did nothing wrong to Yamcha. He is simply the son of Bulma and Vegeta, and even if that means Yamcha has lost his Bulma forever, that is certainly not a valid reason to hate this boy. Well, if we clearly allow ourselves to be guided by instinct and the most impetuous emotions, it is quite normal to think that Yamcha may also have felt frustration at seeing that son who should have been his. Trunks is the most concrete form of Yamcha's humiliation: not only is he not his son, he is even Vegeta's son. From this point of view, Trunks represents the beginning of a new hope for the planet but also the end of Yamcha's hopes. It's a subplot that nobody gives a damn about, but as much as I love Trunks, I can't help but think every time I see him, "oh boy, Yamcha's downfall is coming."
Whatever… These are assumptions we don't have to worry about. Yamcha may have had a small moment of annoyance with little Trunks, but he is still an innocent child, and what's more, although he is Vegeta's son, he is also Bulma's son, and Yamcha loves Bulma. Now as a friend, but he still loves her. So loving Bulma necessarily means loving Trunks as well. This to me is a great proof of his inner strength that I mentioned earlier, although at this point I wonder... Is his strenth really that inner? It seems so damn noticeable to me. Now let's take a closer look at the whole situation.
Tumblr media
Through Trunks' words we learn for the first time about the breakup between Yamcha and Bulma. Trunks very naively explains that the main reason was Yamcha's attitude toward the girls. Bulma got fed up and so she broke up with him once and for all. Leaving aside the fact that Yamcha playboy is a kind of joke, because we have seen many times how in reality he has always been the exact opposite, it is highly probable that this statement is unfortunately the result of Bulma's usual hysteria toward Yamcha. I say "usual" because we have plenty of evidence on this. For example, in OG Dragon Ball we saw how she was pissed off at Yamcha simply because a fanclub of pretty girls had formed for him. This trifle had been enough for Bulma to leave Yamcha alone in the city, and go with Goku to search for the dragon balls. It is not hard for me to imagine that much of Yamcha's alleged faults were simply in Bulma's head. Perhaps she feared losing him and consequently imagined realities that Yamcha would never allow.
The fact is that in my opinion Trunks' explanation should not be taken as true. Future Bulma told his son a lot of lies, surely for good, because living in such a tragic time it was right to ease the boy's soul by telling him about his father's noble deeds. The point is that Future Bulma knew perfectly well that Vegeta was neither a saint nor a hero. She never knew the Vegeta of the Buu Arc. She had only experienced the impassive, distant, indifferent, and untamable Vegeta, the one you still had to worry about because you still couldn't tell if you could trust him or not. But Vegeta was still the father of her son, and her son was the only thing she had left of Vegeta. So out of love for her son, Bulma has elevated Vegeta, and as one does when telling a fanciful fairy tale in which one exaggerates many things, Future Bulma necessarily has fictionalized how she and Vegeta ended up together. I try hard to think of it that way. I find it in very bad taste that Future Bulma spoke ill of Future Yamcha, who died and did not have a chance to tell his side. So I just assume that she told this bullshit not to insult Yamcha's memory but to comfort young Trunks. As I said, the lie about Yamcha is not the only one. To glorify Trunks's father, Future Bulma also tells that Vegeta had a hidden and "warmer" side, but in reality even she was not sure about that because in the future Vegeta had never shown affection toward their son. It was a supposition she made up to give her son hope.
In short, through Future Bulma's words we can imagine that Future Yamcha is a moron, while Future Vegeta is a pretty decent man. Cold but decent. Mind you: accusing Yamcha of being "something of a playboy" does not just mean that he is a jerk who gets off on girls. Above all, it means that Yamcha is unintelligent, vile, and without dignity. But when Trunks gets into the time machine and goes back to the past, which for us is the present, all the cards get messed up and a very different reality jumps out. From here on, the paths diverge. There are those who believe Future Bulma's words and those who find the whole thing a terrible stretch. True or not, everything Yamcha does in this saga completely negates the idea that he was a shitty person with no brain or heart. Trunks sees that, but he also sees something more important: Vegeta is not as worthy as he thought.
Tumblr media
In this scene, the tension is very high. It is not just a clash between a saiyan and an earthling. It is a clash between one who has lost everything and one who has taken everything. After all, Vegeta took Yamcha's life once and a few years later he took his girlfriend. The way Vegeta tries to cut Yamcha out of Dragon Ball has always bothered me, simply because many fans have taken all his insults against Earthlings as true. Nowadays, unfortunately, there are many who believe that Yamcha is really scum. Seeing him in this scene with that clenched fist, his gaze threatening but equally filled with goodness tugs at my heartstrings. However, the best part of this scene is really Trunks' reaction.
Tumblr media
He seems really upset. Somehow it's as if he wants to stop it, but not just because Vegeta is taking it out on Yamcha. Trunks comes from a future where love no longer exists. There is only fear, anger, frustration. He lives in a world where there is no time to laugh, joke, play, simply feel human, and he suffers a lot from that. His warm melancholy is directly proportional to the cold evilness of the two androids. With this interpretation in mind, I am quite convinced that in this scene Trunks saw the two androids in his father. Or rather, it is as if Trunks was upset by his father's coldness very similar to that of androids. Understand me, it is as if he at that moment is witnessing the confrontation between the two times: Yamcha represents the happy past, Vegeta the ruthless future. Moreover, Trunks in those days is fully experiencing the reality he desires in his time. There is his father, there is Goku, there are his friends, laughing is still possible but most of all, the planet is so alive that hope and love do not even have to be searched for in a mad rush because they are part of it. They have not yet been eradicated as in his future. As I had already said, hope and love are precisely what convinced Trunks to accomplish this feat. Not only that. If you remember what I wrote in the previous part, I openly stated that Yamcha is the representation of these two feelings. So... Joining all the dots, it really seems that in this scene Trunks is standing up for his own ideals. If Yamcha is love and love is what Trunks wants back in a world now filled with hatred, it is only natural that he would side with the earthling. I mean, he is fed up with witnessing injustice. Besides, Trunks has respect for Yamcha as Fighter-Z. He knows that Yamcha also tried to fight against the androids and that unfortunately he did not succeed, so it is natural for him to stand up for him. It is that code of honor that is created between warriors. Well, I really think Trunks realizes here what I was saying at the beginning: Yamcha is not that much of an asshole and Vegeta is not that much of a saint. At this point Trunks seriously needs proof that negates everything he is observing. It is just a detail. The best is yet to come.
Before we get to that, I would like to briefly address the relationship between Yamcha and Trunks. We have come to understand by now that Yamcha acts out of love and precisely because of this he does not look the recipient in the face. The fact that Trunks is Vegeta's son does not matter to him. Trunks is a good guy who even though he materialized the separation between Yamcha and Bulma still saved the world by going back to the past. Moreover, as already mentioned, he is Bulma's son. All this is enough for Yamcha to respect, love and protect him.
Tumblr media
This is a decisive moment. Trunks' death acts as a catalyst for the final fight, but more importantly it makes Vegeta bring out that "side." Everyone remembers the prince's anger against Cell after seeing his son die, but... How many remember who was the first to rescue Trunks?
Tumblr media
Come on, seriously?! I would never have said that. ...Yes, hell, yes. Of course would have said that. There are so many characters who witness this tragic death but it just so happens that the first one to intervene is Yamcha. I don't think it's random. And even if it was, that's pretty damn consistent with his character. You see. He reaches Trunks even before Vegeta, but that certainly does not mean that Vegeta loves Trunks any less. I just mean that, despite all that Trunks represents to Yamcha, Yamcha rushes to save him, moved again by that unconditional love that distinguishes him from all others.
Tumblr media
The very brief scenes in which Yamcha protects Trunks' corpse together with Tien are wonderful. For two sensitive souls like Yamcha and Tien, it is really the least to defend the one who allowed them to live a little longer. It is really moving to see how Yamcha and Tien take care of the body to prevent it from being profaned. Little does it matter to them that there are dragon balls and that Trunks can be brought back to life even if full of scratches and wounds. The respect for the corpse is the only priority, with or without dragon balls, and this attitude is so human that it brings tears to my eyes every time I realize how special these two earthlings are.
Tumblr media
I mean... Trunks's corpse could have been lying there somewhere and been picked up at the end. He was dead, not unconscious like Android 18. Watching over his body was not strictly necessary, but Yamcha and Tien do it anyway. And they do it because they are the best characters in Dragon Ball their humanity is their secret weapon. A pity that for Toriyama it is just a joke.
Tumblr media
The relationship between Trunsk and Yamcha is only part of the whole. We could trace it to the same kind of paternal bond that Yamcha establishes with Goku and Gohan, but in Trunks' case it becomes even more fascinating because he is literally the son she would have wanted with her Bulma. Of course, it's just a feeling. I highly doubt that Yamcha ever realized that he possessed "daddy-like" attitudes, and then we also have to say that protecting someone younger than you doesn't mean you do it because you have the makings of a father. To be precise, Yamcha does have it, but he certainly doesn't act thinking that everyone is his missing child. That's just the way he is, and that's why I insist on the idea that he could have been a perfect dad. Perhaps the most perfect.
I am insisting on the father figure because Future Trunks strongly misses his dad. He tells us that he was too young to remember him and that the idea of meeting him for the first time in the past moved him. But why did it move him? Let's remember it: thanks to Future Bulma. With her fantasies about Future Vegeta she colored Trunks' dark life a little, even though at the time she was not sure what she was telling. It didn't matter. All that mattered was that Trunks at least grew up with the idea that the past was a good place thanks in part to his father. As we read in this scene, therefore, we understand that Trunks has a serious need to create memories of his own. It is also a way to give a visual image to his mother's stories, like when a child prefers a book with pictures to a book with only text. That is why Future Trunks stays close to his father, observes him, that is all he needs. As we have noticed, however, things are not quite as he imagined them to be. Vegeta is not what he expected, but the joy of being able to be with him is enough for him to accept him as he is. But... Is it really enough? Think about it. After such a long and difficult journey, after so many legendary tales and especially after so many expectations, how much can it hurt to return home with fewer answers and so many more questions? We do not know exactly what happened during the training between Vegeta and Trunks in the Room of Spirit and Time, but we can safely assume that Vegeta did not open up as Trunks would have liked. It was certainly an emotional moment for him, but not enough to say, "yeah, man, he's really my dad."
Tumblr media
The decisive moment occurs precisely during Trunks' death. Earlier we saw that the first one to rescue him is Yamcha, but "obviously" nobody cares because all the attention goes to Vegeta. I understand that. This is the moment when the saiyan prince finally shows his feelings for someone else for the first time. It is not just revenge. Behind Vegeta's reaction is love, and this very feeling will make him frighteningly strong. This naturally amazes everyone, but I am sure that the reaction of the Z-Fighters is due not so much to the increase in his strength as to the fact that Vegeta is having an emotional reaction of this caliber. No one has ever seen him like this. He has officially changed for the better. I am sure Vegeta fans recognize in this scene the split between the ruthless Vegeta of the saiyan saga and the Vegeta we will see in the Buu saga. A new Vegeta has just been born, and everyone has noticed him, even Yamcha who has not had a positive idea about him until then. Actually, it must be said that Yamcha had forgiven Vegeta before anyone else. When Yamcha was still with Bulma, he had agreed to let the saiyan be hosted at his girlfriend's house.
Tumblr media
Tien had been the voice of truth. Perhaps his third eye had glimpsed the future, I don't know, but it is quite disturbing to think that some time later this fateful decision would seal the break between Bulma and Yamcha.
Tumblr media
What matters for now is that Yamcha has the gift of forgiveness. He did it with Tien when he broke his leg and, although in a different way, he did it with Vegeta who committed much more heinous acts against him. The only difference is that Vegeta never apologized. Once again it is Yamcha who takes a step forward, or rather three steps forward: he forgives the man who killed him, he forgives the man who took away the woman he loved and finally he forgives the man who deprived him of the chance to become a father. Excuse me, but I believe that these three battles are much more intense and difficult than any of the battles we see in Dragon Ball between our heroes and strong monsters. Especially if we think about the fact that Yamcha stays, which doesn't mean that he is just there: the way Yamcha is, it means that he learns to love even those who hurt him and especially to act for their good.
Tumblr media
There is only one problem. Trunks cannot see all the love that Vegeta radiates for him. The essence of this scene lies precisely in the fact that finally Future Bulma's tales of Vegeta become real, but what good is all this if Trunks has no way to witness it? A new tale is needed, but this time a real one, based on facts and no longer on memories. A tale that can definitively confirm that Vegeta has a good side and especially cares about his son. So someone must necessarily step up and help Trunks hope again just because of this fantastic news.
Tumblr media
...You again, Yamcha?! Then it is a vice! Or maybe you are simply the most beautiful Dragon Ball character ever. Well yes, guys, it is indeed Yamcha who tells Trunks about Vegeta's unexpected heroic feat. He could have told them Krillin or anyone else, but Yamcha's sensitivity precedes all others. In a sense it is as if he is the first to realize that Vegeta has actually changed. We are at the end of the battle. Trunks has been brought back to life and everyone is at Kami's palace. After some small talk and the twist between Krillin and Android 18 (to which Yamcha contributed), the fighters part ways to return home. Yamcha and Trunks head to West City and it is during this journey that Yamcha confesses to the boy what happened. To many it may seem like the least, but think about it very carefully: how many in Yamcha's place would have done the same? I mean, at that moment Yamcha is praising Vegeta for what he did for Trunks. In different words, Yamcha is praising the very man who took away his life, his woman, and the possible marriage he has dreamed of all his life. He had no reason to do it, yet he did it. He could have kept quiet, or told Trunks anything else by deliberately omitting the part about Vegeta out of some sort of personal revenge, but he does not. He does not do it because Yamcha's big heart does not allow him to act in such a mean way. At this very moment he no longer cares what Vegeta did to him. It was enough for him to see him go crazy over Trunks' death to change his mind and accept the fact that Vegeta has changed. That is all Yamcha cares about. Yamcha cares that love guides people, and in this case he cares that Bulma and little Trunks are finally in good hands. The rest no longer matters. The disappointment, humiliation, and anger he feels toward the whole disastrous situation that happened between him, Vegeta, and Bulma is water under the bridge. Yamcha has officially moved on. But it's not just about that. Here Yamcha demonstrates superhuman empathy. He never heard the revelation that Future Trunks told Goku when he first appeared. He did not hear that Trunks had no memories of his father and that this distressed him terribly, yet Yamcha senses this. We have seen how he has formidable intuition, so I am not surprised to believe that he sensed this need in Trunks. He must have imagined that in the future he misses his father figure, and so without a second thought he wanted to give him that warmth that you feel when your father loves you. Once again Yamcha went further and reasoned about situations that are much broader than people think. He took care of the present, but he also took care of the future, and this time without receiving anything in return. Telling Trunks about Vegeta doesn't change his life, but it certainly improves it. It enriches him and he just through all this love that he literally gives to anyone feels stronger and better. Making others feel good is his personal mission. Here we can see that he did it, he got his victory. Trunks' face as he says "my father did?" is full of pride because simply the circle has come full circle. Trunks got the confirmation he was looking for because he knew because of Future Bulma, but he needed to verify it. Yamcha gave peace to his tormented soul.
Tumblr media
So guys... I hope it's clear to everyone that if this iconic scene exists, it's really because of Yamcha. I mean, surely Vegeta and Trunks would have said goodbye to each other regardless. But the power of this scene lies precisely in the fact that Trunks knows exactly what happened, what Vegeta did for his son, and as we have seen if he knows it is precisely thanks to Yamcha. In short: Yamcha helped redefine the relationship between Vegeta and Trunks. Yamcha, who as we have seen is the bearer of hope, finally made sense of why Trunks embarked on this journey. He made all of Trunks' dreams come true and in a way allowed him to become stronger, because let's face it, what allows Trunks to beat the androids in his future is not just the super training and battles he does in the past, but more importantly the chance to have experienced all the emotions he was missing and that motivated him to improve his time.
Tumblr media
When Trunks returns home, one of the first things he does is tell about the very thing his father did. And if he tells it, let us remember, it is always because of Yamcha. Do you see what I mean? He doesn't give a damn about winning against Cell and the androids. What Trunks takes with him is mostly the emotions accumulated during this incredible experience. Telling about how those monsters were beaten would not have added anything new, because they live in a world where people fight for survival. Telling instead how love and teamwork made all the difference is completely new for him. That is what really matters. We are humans, not robots. There is no point in struggling if you don't have emotions with you. Trunks finally got them. He is finally different from the androids and can now defeat them.
Tumblr media
I think the best part of this scene is Future Bulma's reaction. Here we learn that she had indeed ventured a little in telling Trunks about Vegeta. She was not sure about Vegeta's good side either, but she still told her son about it to comfort him. We can see how shocked she is to learn such news. From here we can infer that Future Vegeta was not even a partner in attendance. Somewhat like the Vegeta of the present. In fact, his closeness to Bulma and Trunks occurs after Cell Arc. Not having been able to experience it, Future Bulma was left with the idea that Vegeta had an unexplored good side that she never really saw. She only guessed at it. Therefore, we can say that Yamcha's words have resolved even Future Bulma's doubts. In the present, Yamcha must have noticed the substantial difference between him and Vegeta vis-à-vis Bulma. If Yamcha was affectionate and close, Vegeta is distant and cold. He probably resents that Vegeta behaves this way toward Bulma. Assuming Yamcha sensed that Trunks' future was loveless, it is easy to imagine that he also thought Future Bulma was left alone with her conflicts. After all, Vegeta's change occurred only in the past because some events were changed with Trunks' arrival. It is an exception. I like to think that Yamcha also wanted to help Future Bulma by letting her know that Future Vegeta could learn to love if he had a little more time. Why he did this we will never know. We may think that he did it because Yamcha still loves Bulma, but that would be reductive. Yamcha did it because he just loves. Giving hope is what he does best. It is quite ironic that Yamcha helped the same person who besmirched his memory by telling that he was some kind of playboy. I think it is particularly noticeable here how great Yamcha actually is. Of course he does not know what Future Bulma actually told about him. Trunks only reveals it to Goku, and the only one who hears it is Piccolo. But I am sure that even if Yamcha had known that Future Bulma did not speak highly of him, he would still have done his best to take care of her in every time arc. Lastly he simply enhanced Vegeta's own image. I think it is the most immense act Yamcha could do: to love his greatest enemy. I proudly say that Yamcha, after taking care of the past and the present, has saved even the future. Without exaggeration, he is the one who maintained the link between these three time arcs. If I may say so, he is precisely the one who most represents the theme of this saga.
Tumblr media
I would like to conclude with two thoughts...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Any nostalgic Dragon Ball fan knows full well how important Goku's grandfather is. Son Gohan is a kind of angel who watches over the little saiyan from the very beginning, via the dragon ball with the four stars. There is one scene in particular that moves me so much. This is the exact moment when Son Gohan relinquishes this role of guardian angel to Goku's friends. If we want to dwell on Yamcha, I think he is the one who most of all took these words literally. Not only because indeed Yamcha took care of Goku during his illness, but especially because he extended this commandment. Yamcha has really taken care of everyone who is connected to Goku for some reason, precisely because Goku's happiness also depends on those around him. Taking care of Goku also means taking care of his affections, and Yamcha, as we have seen, has done this with everyone. He took care of his wife Chichi, his son Gohan, but also Tien and Krillin, two of Goku's great friends, and finally the saiyans and Bulma. I like to think that it all starts from this very scene, even though Yamcha has always been inclined to help anyone.
Tumblr media
At the end of the Cell Arc, the carefree atmosphere of Dragon Ball returns. The one we can't do without, the one that brings us back, when gags were the soul of this story. The reason for all the laughter we witness at Kami's palace is Yamcha. He is the one who makes people laugh because he is afraid of Android 18 and he is the one who relieves the tension by entertaining everyone with his jokes. Among these jokes is one really particular one that on the surface makes him look like an idiot.
Tumblr media
Theoretically we should mock him because he has not exactly been lucky in love. His one experience was shattered. Bulma even describes him as a playboy, so his line seems rather grotesque. Butl... After all we've seen, did Yamcha really say bullshit? Okay, he may not be lucky in love relationships, but who says that the love he is talking about is only that which is born between two guys? We saw through him that love is not only between lovers. Love can be between friends, brothers, fathers and sons, ex-girlfriends and even rivals. It doesn't matter who gets it and how they get it: the important thing is only to get it. Yamcha is the one who most spreads love in Dragon Ball. He is the one who gives soul and humanity to Dragon Ball. It is sad to think that he is the one who does not get love in return. But he doesn't care. By giving love he feels loved.
Since hope is what Dragon Ball is based on…. I continue to hope that Yamcha, too, will one day get his well-deserved victory in battle. Because... Let's face it, as a character he has long since won.
Tumblr media
Thank you, Yamcha.
Thank you for coming so far. This is definitely my most difficult and exciting topic. It was crazy to write so much about Yamcha but it was worth it. I don’t care how many people read. Having left this opinion could be useful in the future, maybe not, but it’s okay: analyzing Yamcha’s soul was like rediscovering the beauty of being human. I think that’s the most important thing.

I don't know if you're still doing the ask game, but how about 1, 22, and 25? For Jason, and Steph too if you're up for it :D
--Cologona
Because I could still find it: yes! Still doing this ask game :3 Sorry it took so long to answer!
1) Why do you like or dislike this character?
I spent like seventy years attempting to find the post with this meme on it so I could give credit lmao, but I could not for the life of me, so uh, just know that I'm remaking this thing from memory I guess???
Tumblr media
Jason is the bee in my bonnet, the rock in my shoe, and I am chewing on him forever and ever - meanwhile I will enjoy pretty much any comic about Steph simply because I love watching her do her thing :3
But to go into more detail I really enjoy Steph's narration style and the way she navigates the world. She feels very refreshingly street level and hopeful. Also as someone who grew up as the only "girl" (trans man but egg) in my martial arts class which was taught by a detective with a very drill sargent/tough-love approach to teaching and got an extra helping of PTSD as a result... watching her struggle, get dismissed bc of her gender, and go on to become a great hero despite Batman and his bullshit feels really fucking good. Def love Batgirl 2009
Jason on the other hand is just so deliciously messy. He's hurt a lot of people, but at the same time his anger is super justified! He's intimately familiar with violence in a way that I think makes him unable to conceptualize trust and gauge what an 'appropriate' response is. There's been several times where he's expressed the idea that serious violence by him against others is just normal and forgivable and not a big deal. There's something so compelling to me about that bc I think he really does see it that way, and it comes from a place of him being extremely used to receiving violence and being expected to forgive and not hold it against them. That wall of text in the meme picture is a tiny fraction of one of my essays on him. He's got so many fascinating layers and I love peeling him apart and putting him back together like a robot performing surgery on a grape.
Sometime after I finish Chained, I really want to write Four and Twenty Blackbirds, which is a fic concept I've had for ages now that puts them together in a lesbian/gay man queer relationship. The premise is that somehow or other Steph comes back to Gotham secretly/early and Jason is the first one to find her and they end up building a weird organized crime/community support organization called The Blackbirds.
Not sure on the timeline. Maybe it'll start before Under the Red Hood? Maybe after a modified Hush plotline?? In any case: Jason offers to preform High Vengeance against Black Mask either for or with her. She does not want him killed! She would feel like that went completely against everything she died for. However, she does want that fucker taken down, and is touched that Jason clearly genuinely cares. Also I'm going to have Jason assume without question that she is fully competent and his equal. Unlike every other vigilante in town, she will never have to prove herself to him. So anyways she tells him that yeah, she wants her revenge, but it's gonna happen her way, and the plot moves on from there, as together they destroy and co-opt Black Mask's organization and establish a territory for themselves :3
22) If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
Unless given a reading suggestion by someone else, I exclusively read JayTim fanfiction, which heavily skews what I look for and see in fic. I'm also pretty damned picky lol I write much more fic than I read these days
Even the most basic, stripped down version of Stephanie's core concepts and background ought to be enough to conclude that she would have very complex feelings about both Jason and Tim and them dating each other. She had a supervillain father and a character arc about learning to value the lives of even her worst enemies. Now her ex is dating a guy who had a henchman father and the same character arc in reverse, a guy who specifically targeted her killer in order to get back at the mentor who bears some responsibility for both her death and his own. They are so uniquely poised to understand each other from across this fascinating chasm, both in terms of approaches to vigilantism and dating Tim. You could not ask for a more fertile storytelling ground, regardless of if you want her to be supportive or not.
So yeah, for Stephanie I like it when she has a personality outside of cheerleading Tim while being vaguely sweet and quirky.
The bar is in Hell here folks, and out of the hundreds of fanfics I've read I've only ever seen it cleared twice. And that's only if we include my own goddamned writing. This goes beyond normal fandom simplification, especially when you factor in that Cass, famously against all killing Cass, gets similarly denuded of all internal motives and qualities in favor of being (sometimes literally) wordlessly supportive for no apparent reason, while in those same fics the male characters get to have opinions and internal viewpoints. JayTim nation, I am praying for us to learn how to write women, truly.
Now on to Jason!
I think of Jason as someone who is intense in every facet of himself. He can be cruel and mistrustful or tender and romantic, but no matter what he is I want him to be a little unhinged with it, a little too deep, a little too incapable of not giving a fuck. I want this man lost in the sauce, whatever that sauce may be.
I dislike him being overly apologetic, which practically translates to me disliking most fics in which he is apologetic at all lol I do think he would come to regret some of his actions, but I tend to think those would be different actions than the ones he's usually depicted apologizing for. For instance, I can absolutely see him apologizing to a victim of the Joker for not killing him when he got the chance, but I don't really think he'd have the framework to consider his fights with Tim to have been all that far out of line.
25) What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
Ohhhhhhh boy that was fuckin ages ago??? I'm not honestly sure I remember, though I do know that I read JayTim fanfics before anything else that involved these characters, so it had to have been based on that.
...Gah, I don't even remember how I found this ship lol! I mean I started with Boostle?? Maybe JayTim was in the background somewhere of one of those fics? idk
I suppose my first impressions were that Jason was a Big Mood deeply traumatized and lashing out bc of that, and Stephanie was gir waffles XD random rawr means I love you in dinosaur.
Anyhow, thank you very much for the ask @cologona! As per usual with these things I hope it was a fun read and you have a good day and all that jazz :3

And for the Spyro and Crash gang members' personalities in your AU, what are they like?
I will start with the Spyro Gang, as a really old post of like 2020, I started with a base and later started to shape their personalities:
Tumblr media
Spyro: He's mostly a self-caring dragon which only cares about his physical and actually a very narcissistic behavior (very similar to Skylanders Academy behavior and Spyro the Dragon). He's already a hero alongside Crash for saving the dragon kingdom from Cynder's Corruption (the past) and with it he and Crash became famous and heroes so people always say good stuff to them and Spyro rising his own pride, he works as influencer/streamer btw.
Ember: She's sensible and very innocent, the kindest dragon you would ever met. She works as fashionist (outfit designer) and her bestie is Tawna as she works along her side. She is an extrovert like Spyro, a loving and caring mostly for others specially for Cynder as she alongside Flame tries to help Cynder to have a better social life and go outside home. She loves going shopping, usually never goes alone bc Flame is always there to be her guard.
Flame: He's usually shy to meet new people, he's pretty unsecure around people, thinking everyone is judging him. To prevent those thoughts, he's a very good athlete and acrobat! He tries to not look like a fierce looking fire dragon like his father and bloodline, but with the exception to hurt, but be a protector of his most loved ones. He has a little issue, he might look self-confident, but he's really easy to manipulate.
Cynder: The deepest lore I've got for her is pretty tough. She's an introvert, after her corruption and being a Dark Dragon, people around the city is scared of her or even tho just bully her and reminds her what she did, outside is a nightmare for her, judging eyes, whispers, blames, etc. Ember and Flame try their best to protect her from those people and judges by replying back, in Spyro case is not the same than self-proclaim Cynder's savior like if she has to owe him something. She's a gamer, usually play violence games like Doom (lmao), but she has an inner talent that doesn't wanna show, she's a good singer, a good musician specially with electric guitar. She had a crush to someone (I rather people guess) once Spyro introduced his gang to Crash's Gang/family, that leaded her to try to get out of the closet with Crash's family help. Yeah and, she always, always, blames herself on anything, that leads to blame others when she's actually mad at herself.
----------------------- CRASH FAMILY -----------------------
Crash: Being the same crazy bandicoot, he had to put some clothes on to live in the city (bc he was freezing lmao). He's a shameless person that cares mostly for the others he loves, with his loving girlfriend Tawna, they're completely a wholesome couple. Crash doesn't seem like to use his brain that much lol, but either way he has some sense of humor and knows perfectly when there's something wrong, he can't talk, but he learnt sign language (thank you Tawna). Ah yes btw, he works as fashion model, you're welcome.
Coco: Your confident and crazy loving bandicoot, influencer and streamer. Coco have some sort of feelings for Spyro, they're super friends but they have some attraction which Cynder is kinda worried about. Coco's best friend is Ember, both of 'em loves to go together shopping and sometimes with Flame when he's available. She's good at technology and creating machines and inventions, it's like her hobby. She has more brain than his brother Crash but at least she's a caring sister who tries the best healthcare for herself and her loved ones.
Crunch: He's the strongest! Redeemed from Cortex's control (pretty similar to Cynder with Malefor), Crunch is a very caring brother like Coco, caring for his loved ones healthcare. He's gym trainer alongside his bestie Tiny Tiger, he stills learn about emotions to understand physical behaviors that are results of emotional issues. He's very self-confident but never says no to some life lessons and advices, he's your number 1 supporter that will be there for you to love yourself and never give up!
Tawna: A lovely motherlike bandicoot, Tawna is the best at everything and she's very smart that understands life very well. She was always trying to learn something new to use these knowledges to care and help more her family and with it, her loving ones. Tawna works of so many stuff, she is trying always to help everyone and make everyone happy (that's a big issue), volunteer in healthcare, baker, chef, even the most is with Ember as making her outfit designs become real and wearable. Her agenda is very tight, but she never says no to a family meeting, she never shows her stress than her eyebags of restless days. She's friend of everyone and tries anything to help anyone in need, specially for Cynder and Ember.
GOD I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD WRITE ALL THAT DAMN, Thank you man for the question, i'm happy you're interested of this AU even if it's (for now) cancelled. Now I can put this in my personal notes to never forget TwT

Sometimes i think about how so much of RWBY was probably inspired by Zelda. (Maybe not but I'm a hardcore zelda fan, and i will associate everything i like) and i love it bc it's not...too obvious? Like, you can clearly point out the similarities and even after noticing them you don't see RWBYs story as a copy or anything (bc this is probably a strech BUT I DONT CARE)
The two brothers /the spirits of the relics -> the three goddeses
The blacksmith / the brothers -> hylia
The two brothers represent different aspects of life and the world -> so do the brothers, they divide their work
The triforce -> the relics
Gathering all of them has very important and potentially horrible consequences but it also can be used for good -> both the triforce and the relics
The pieces by itself can grant some sort of power or effect on the wielder -> the pieces of the triforce represent the goddeses and grant powers (using the light power, super strength, being able to wield a legendary weapon) / each relic has it's own purpose
An innocent soul drunken by power who is also a victim of an ancient god-like entity who seeks reuniting all the pieces of the triforce/relics -> salem / ganondorf
Someone who ended up being cursed to live again and again and again, as a mortal inmortal being whose purpose is to stop the great evil that is threatening the world -> hylia / zelda and ozma
Hm, and somebody innocent who due to this original curse was thrown into all this mess, starting to aquire memories from years and years and decades and centuries before they were born that belong to someone that is merging with them so that innocent person becomes the next soul in the curse and has to stop this great evil because is their fate? -> zelda (skyward sword) and oscar I'm looking at you two
And you're telling me that there were lies and manipulation involved? -> zelda again and ozpin I'm looking at you both
And who did you involved in all this? A brave warrior with a heart of gold and a simple and peaceful background and life who ALSO HAPPENS to be gifted at fighting who carries something unique, the only thing capable of harming that great evil?? Hmmm... -> ruby, link, I'm looking at you both
And you're telling me that having that thing is not as easy as it seems and you need to unlock it and learn how to unleash it's true potential? -> maybe like the silver eyes? Or maybe the master sword?
And you're telling me that these two souls are bonded by fate to meet and have A LOT of pararells and they complement each other? -> ruby and oscar I'm looking at you
And you're telling me that their story resembles and is a pararell to the original story of lovers? -> ozma/Salem - ruby/Oscar and the first link/hylia -zelda/link
And you're telling me that the soul who merges with this magical ancient being also carries light themed magic? -> zelda? Oscar? Explain
AND YOU'RE TELLING ME THAT EVEN IF THERE'S A MAIN HERO, THEY CANNOT DO IT ALONE AND THEY NEED HELP?
Hmmm like RUBY AND ALL HER TEAMMATES AND LINK AND HIS COMPANIONS?
Oh, and you're also telling me that there are very important and powerful people who carry a fraction of the power of the gods? Like the maidens? Or like maybe the sages? (I'm not including the champions bc botw came out after rwby)
So yeah, there's some similarities. And i LOVE IT
Also i ship zelink and rosegarden and I CAN ASSURE YOU. THEY'RE THE SAME. SAME DYNAMIC, SAME VIBE, THEY'RE SO DEAR TO ME OH MY GOD.

Kryptonian's Valentine
Tumblr media
Supergirl x Male Reader
Warnings: none, just fluff
Woo! First Post on Tumblr! I've already made this fanfic imagine on my Supergirl x male reader Imagines book on Wattpad and though it could go here as well, my name is the same on Wattpad as well, but without further to do...
Let the imagine kick off!
(based off of the Tomorrowverse)
* *
*yawn* the sun shined through the curtains of an apartment as Y/N's eyes began to flick open, he notices he was alone in the bed, his girlfriend wasn't in the bed.
He shot up and looked around on his bed - "Babe?" he called out, checking a note on his bed side.
*
"on patrol sleepy head, I'll be back soon!
Kara xx"
*
He smiled at the little note before checking his phone.
Today was the 14th of February which only meant one thing...
It was Valentine's Day and in fact... This was his girlfriend's first ever Valentine's Day for she is a Kryptonian and only arrived months after Valentine's Day happened last year.
His girlfriend was Supergirl aka Kara Zor-El, people may think the way they met was through one of those love stories where the damsel in distress falls in love with the hero, but it was completely different than that.
Standing in the very same apartment, it was once destroyed after he had moved into it due to Supergirl fighting recklessly against Solomon Grundy.
His eyes widened, he remembered he had gotten her two things for Valentine's Day and he woke up late, it was 11am in the morning and he slept in, it appeared his alarm in his phone didn't go off to wake him up for the big day.
He bought her a necklace that she once saw an interest in at a jewellery store at The Mall in Metropolis the second time she went but with him by her side, guiding her through the entire place as she learned Earth through the guidance of a Human after her cousin thought it would be a good idea going by that route for her, having someone around her age show her around, make her feel accepted on Earth.
He also got her a custom made bracelet he made himself, designed with her signature "S" shield she proudly wore on her super suit, it also had very special features she sure would love.
*
Y/N was in fact a good craftsman, some say he had special abilities which he in fact does but he has always lived as a normal Human being before getting his special powers he kept hidden for a little while.
Kara knows he has abilities, being able to summon weapons made of energy out of thin air, having in-humane reflexes, enhanced strength, durability, being able to stick to walls and run along them, Kara always enjoyed carrying him wherever she flew off with him, quite say he also enjoyed it too, being flown up into the sky with her where they'd kiss everytime.
He trained her to harness her abilities with the help of her cousin Superman though Batman wasn't too trusting about the idea but let it slide, at this time Y/N revealed who he really was to Kara, showing the hero he was and revealing it was him who saved Kara from an explosion by using an energy shield to cover her a few weeks prior to meeting her face to face for the first time as a random citizen of Metropolis.
Y/N originally came from a different universe altogether with different superheroes with almost the same abilities as this world's heroes have, 21st and 31st century.
The issue with his world? Superheroes were Heroes just for the fame and cameras, they wanted to be so popular that everyone loved them and they all did.
When Y/N got his powers at the age of 15, he wanted to use his powers
he took Kara there to train her and meet the Legion who Y/N was an ally of, though she had some issues with a descendent of Brainiac named Brainiac "Brainy" 5 which would then form a friendship between the two as the days went by.
Y/N originally went to this universe to document the history, he was so interested about Earth's heroes but meeting Supergirl had given him thoughts to stay in this universe, she thought of staying in the 31st century to be a Legionnaire but her heart belonged to Y/N so she went back with him to the 21st century, to learn Earth and their primitive technology.
He was also fascinated with history, he documented any type of history, including Kryptonian history he learned from Kara, while she learned more about Earth form him, he learned more about Krypton from her.
*
He got out of bed and proceeded to get ready, he remembered hiding the two gifts so she couldn't see them with her x-ray vision, using lead to cover it up.
As he walked through to the living room, he saw his girlfriend flew in with a box of chocolates.
"morning handsome ~" she smiled - "got you something" she handed over the box of chocolates, he smiled at her and he took the gift.
"aww for me? You shouldn't have" he looked at her in awe, smiling like a goofball as the two got closer and connected lips together, he set the chocolates to the side to enjoy his kiss with his girlfriend
"it's Valentine's Day isn't it? ~" she asked pulling back - "where loved ones give each other gifts to show their true love for one another? And ask to be their Valentine?" she added as he chuckled.
"yeah, that sums up Valentine's Day, it's a holiday for love and affection, not just for boyfriends, girlfriends, wives and husbands, but also for best friends and family as well, but yes... It is Valentine's Day after all ~" he answered her as the two embraced in another kiss again.
"I'll be back, need to get out of this" she gestured to her super suit, walking off into the bedroom and reappeared a second later into a yellow sweater, skinny jeans and white socks.
"Mrs Jones and her husband were the ones who gifted me the box of chocolates, said I should share them with S/H/N since the both of us are a power couple, they also said thank you to both of us for helping them within the last few months" Kara explained, approaching Y/N with a huge smile.
"that's nice of them" he replied as he brought Kara closer to him, her arms outstretched around his shoulders, Kara gave him a long smooch, moaning in his mouth a little.
"Oh! That reminds me ~" he pulled back - "wait here" he rushed off to the bedroom as Kara looked on suspiciously, why did he go off in a rush? Did he forget something?
"I got you 2 things for today!" he shouted from the bedroom as Kara sat down on the couch.
"Oh you did?" she asked.
"Yep" he popped back out with two things wrapped in lead, she scoffed and smiled at the two lead wrapped gifts.
"so that's what you were hiding from me? You wrapped them in lead" she raised an eyebrow, her eyes crossed as she smirked.
"Happy Valentine's Day babe" he approached and handed her the lead wrapped gifts as the two embraced in a loving hug.
"Go on, open em up" he suggested, Kara wasted no time and began unwrapping the first one, she was like a kid on Christmas day when it came to presents, especially since she was like this on Christmas day.
She unwrapped the first one, revealing a delicate box as she immediately knew what it was no thanks to x-ray vision.
"Thank you so much" she hugged his arm and chuckled happily, he chuckled at her cuteness and hugged back.
"now for the second one, you'll love it" he winked, making Kara more curious about the second gift.
She wasted no time unwrapping it and it revealed a special bracelet, she turned it round and looked upon the House of El symbol on the bracelet like she wore on her super suit, her eyes widened as she looked at it, running a finger across it as she was reminded of Krypton.
"aww... This reminds me of the one my dad gave me once when I was little" her voice croaked a little, her smile brightened as she remembered her father.
"Originally, I was planning to give you this on Christmas day, but... The bracelet was unfinished since I was also making something else at the same time. I... Finished it just a month ago while you were on patrol, the bracelet has a special feature" he stood up and offered his hand.
Kara looked at his hand and grabbed it, allowing him to pull her up as she held the bracelet in her hand, he brought her to the middle of the room.
"Put it on, press the symbol and watch the magic happen" he smirked, letting go of her hand as Kara put on the bracelet.
She pressed the House of El symbol as it lit up blue before she started to see a transformation happen on her arms, a blue material went up her arm as it went all over her body.
A red cape extended out as her red skirt appeared with a gold belt with the red and yellow "S" symbol in the middle, red high knee boots appeared on her feet with the signature gold lace around the top.
She looked down at herself as it did its work, her eyes widened as she gasped in happiness, she was now wearing a new super suit, designed by Y/N himself, she looked at the House of El symbol on her chest and couldn't stop smiling, the material of her suit was warm, comfortable and fuzzy like her last one but this one felt more... Flexible and durable.
Her cape had the S symbol as well, all coloured yellow, she examined herself as she had a grin on her face, flaunting her cape around.
"So, you like it?" he asked as she turned to look at him after examining herself, speeding over to him in a flash and kissing him on the mouth.
He melted into her kiss and took it as a hint as she loves it.
"I Looove it Y/N/N! Thank you so much!" she pulled back, very happy with the gift, faces close to each other as their foreheads connected, closing their eyes as they embraced
"You're welcome babe... It Took me months to make ~" he cooed as they looked into each others eyes - "also... The suit is made with tech that I designed using a rare element I found during our time in the 31st century, it's the most strongest and durable material I've ever worked on. The bracelet doesn't just one feature at has a few ~" he explained in detail - "it can detect Kryptonite within a large radius, has its own comms device and you can also use it as a device, including, calling people, messaging, facetime calling and so on, it's like an advanced phone but... Made specifically for you" he added on to his explanation as Kara smiled at the "S" on her chest.
"I love it Y/N, again, thank you so much" she smiled.
"Oh, I forgot to add. It doesn't just have a variation of your new suit... It has a few for different variations of suits for different situations like fighting off someone with Kryptonite, which is bulletproof to Kryptonite bullets, lasers and no more Kryptonite stab wounds, though it might still hurt when it's lasers but you won't feel the effects of the Kryptonite as it protects you, and... If you're ever in the presence of a red sun, the bracelet has a suit that empowers you with yellow sun energy, allowing you to use your powers even when you're on a planet with a red sun" he added more points to the bracelet as Kara kept her smile on him.
"I love it even more ~" she smiled ear to ear, pulling him into a short kiss - "you'll be making one for my cousin right?" she asked with an eyebrow raised.
"Oh yes, I will be, don't worry about that" he replied immediately as the two giggled.
"I can still wear my old suit right?" She asked as he chucked.
"Yeah, you can imprint the suit into the bracelet by touching it, if you want to wear it again~" he answered her question - "and if you hold down the House of El button, you'll be back in civilian clothes again, back to being a disguised, totally normal Human being" he joked.
"Awesome ~" she giggled, she held down the symbol as it did its work, she was back into what clothes she wore before - "but... I love the new suit, I think I'm gonna be wearing it from now on when I'm out as Supergirl" she smiled, kissing him on the cheek after.
Silence fell between them as they looked at each other lovingly.
"remember... How we met for the first time, when I was still a few months new to Earth?" she broke the silence.
"Oh yeah ~" he chuckled - "I remember that day like it was yesterday" he smirked.

*Flashback*
"Hey!" Y/N walked out toward the Girl of Steel, his hands on his head as he was distraught about the damage caused around the area.
"No need to worry, citizen of Metropolis ~" Supergirl had her fists on her hips, performing a superhero pose - "Solomon Grundy has been..."
"My apartment building! ~" Y/N cried out - "Did you do this!? He gestured at his ruined apartment building, which was starting to annoy the short tempered Supergirl.
"Uh, I saved it. You're welcome" she pouted, her arms crossing afterwards.
"Ugh! Where the hell am I supposed to go now? I only moved here a few days ago! Maybe a hotel or something?!" he complained to himself, distraught about the entire situation and he sighed - "maybe it was a bad idea to come here" he thought to himself before sighing.
"Just have your robot servants build you a better place ~" she gestured to the apartment, Y/N cocked an eyebrow, completely confused at what she said - "Or government-issued robots... Construction robots? Regular robots. Any robots?" she added, thinking Earth had this type of advanced technology.
There was a few seconds of silence before Y/N burst out of laughter, the look on her face was priceless.
"haha, no, no ~" he finished laughing, chuckling a little but afterwards as he cleared his throat - "we don't have that type of technology, though I'm sure there is a possibility it could happen in the future, this is the 21st century, we're way beyond that type of robotics at this point in time" he smiled as Supergirl frowned - "what was your planet called again?" he asked her.
"Krypton... It is... Was great, not like this backwards planet" she sighed, looking away.
Y/N's eyebrows sprang up before he frowned - "Hey, I know I shouldn't get mad at you... Since you're... Still new to Earth and us mere Humans" he spoke up, grabbing her attention.
The two looked at each other, eyes upon one another, for a moment, it seemed the two were feeling something strange stir up in them.
"wait a second? Didn't we just meet at the Mall?" he broke the silence between them.
"what? I don't have any idea what you're -" she suddenly stopped speaking as she looked closer, indeed she had already met this boy, he saw her without her glasses after they accidentally bumped into each other.
"u-um" she could only spur out a word as she looked red, feeling awkward about the whole situation.
She thought of flying away but... For some reason, she felt herself glued to the ground upon looking at him.
"haha, don't worry, you're secret is safe with me ~" he smirked - "But... I... Can be your guide about Earth? Y'know? Since its... All backwards for you apparently ~" he suggested - "though I should ask Big Boy Scout over there first before anything" he stepped to the side as Superman was in the middle of a conversation with Batman.
"you would... Be my guide? For me? Why?" she asked, her face frowned.
"Because... I can't imagine what you're going through" he answered.
"And how do you possibly know how I feel!?" she pouted with her voice raised, her arms crossed as she started to get a little frustrated.
"Because I know how it feels to lose a home, to lose people you care about ~" he sympathised with her as her eyes widened a little, she felt a little bad raising her voice at him - "Hey, I understand how frustrating this entire situation is for you, coming to Earth with new powers, learning about a planet that sounds strange, but... Us mere Human's are only a few thousand years into our existence, Earth does have good things, maybe not as good as Krypton but... I promise I'll be your guide and I'll stick by your side, if you want me to" he smiled as Kara was a little flustered and surprised at the offer.
This handsome Human? Wanting to be her guide through Earth? That was something she never thought would ever happen.
-we can trust her, she's -"
-"gentlemen" a voice spoke up.
The two of the World's Finest looked at the boy as he introduced himself.
"Though it is an honour to meet you both, my name is Y/N and I have a question for you Big Blue" he gestured to Superman he raised an eyebrow.
"What's your.. Question sir?" he asked as Y/N smiled.
"I was wondering if... I could teach Supergirl the values of Earth? Show her around through the eyes of a Human, in other words, a guide" he asked the question as the two World's Finest looked at each other.
"can he?" Supergirl approached, standing beside Y/N as she looked at her cousin, hoping he'd agree.
"Well... I can't say no to that look ~" Superman smiled at his cousin - "but I am sure it would be a good idea for her, a change of pace for her to settle in a bit better"
Supergirl grinned happily and hugged Y/N for a brief moment, she recoils back as her cheeks lit up in embarrassment.
*
"and since that day... We started to bond" Kara spoke up.
"Yep, we did" he smiled.
The two kept their bodies close to one another, as they gazed into each others eyes still, completely in love.
"Kara... Ever since the day I met you at l the Mall, and then meeting you again the same day when you were as Supergirl. I've never been so happy in my life, meeting you has been a wildride ~" he started to monologue, his arms outstretched around her hips - "you are the most beautiful, gorgeous, and sweetest but short tempered girl I've ever met in my life ~" Kara giggled at his little remark for her being 'short tempered' - "and I am so happy to be with you and to be your boyfriend ~" he smiled as Kara grinned ear to ear - "coming to this universe, was a nice change of pace for me and after through all the hell I've been through, meeting you was something I never thought possible, I'm so lucky to have you, and to be your guide" he finished.
"aww, that's so sweet of you, and to be honest... Never did I ever think you'd be one of the good points about Earth, I never thought I'd fall in love with you, I was scared about screwing up our friendship we had, and when you admitted your feelings for me, I felt so relieved and now? Spending this day with you? I've never felt so happy" Kara croaked in happiness, the two smashed their lips together, a big long kiss is what they needed.
"I love you, even after the stars die out in the universe" he pulled back to breathe, Kara giggled back before continuing their kiss, with her one and only Valentine...

Random 1 am Skylanders/Legend of Spyro Crossover Idea
Plot bunnies attacked me at 1 in the morning, and I had to write it somewhere before it escaped my brain.
Basically, what if the Legend of Spyro trilogy and the Skylanders series were the same timeline? My more in-depth ideas are below the cut.
So after Spyro puts the world back together in the wake of the whole Destroyer debacle, he and Cynder end up in a weird time dilation purgatory(this is important, so bear with me).
In the wake of what happened, the Skylands begin to form from the floating pieces of the planet Spyro didn't quite pull back in. Later, the Skylands are fully formed.
Eventually, Spyro and Cynder are believed to have sacrificed their lives to stop Malefor; their names and stories immortalized by those they fought beside, and passed down through the ages.
Eventually, the Skylanders form as evil reemerges, a group of individuals coming together to follow in the Skylands' first heroes' steps and protect the world.
Spyro and Cynder finally emerge from Time Dilation Purgatory an undetermined amount of time before the Core of Light is destroyed by Kaos. For them, about ten years have passed, so they've grown(now 22). Not fully developed, but definitely grown up from when they last saw their home. They've had that time to master their powers, work through their respective trauma and go over their relationship. Whether platonic or romantic is up for interpretation.
They meet Eon, only to discover hundreds, or even thousands of years have passed since they defeated Malefor. They're both distraught to learn that everyone they knew before is now dead, but they're offered a home and meet the Skylanders. They're also given the opportunity to meet their friends' descendants, should they so choose, but they decide to wait so they can process and prepare.
Eventually, the two dragons start training the Skylanders, developing closer friendships with some than others. Cynder starts out wary, but eventually makes friends aside from Spyro, and vice versa. It's very good for them and their mental health, especially meeting the other dragons on the team.
Eventually, they do end up going to Dragons' Peak, which has become a sanctuary and safe haven for dragons. It's built from the remains of Warfang and the Dragon Temple, and their history is exceedingly well preserved. They're both a little bashful about the giant mural based on their battle against Malefor.
Kaos attacks the Core of Light, and Cynder and Spyro fly away in search of backup. This, they're spared from the explosion, but they both feel something terrible happened, and return to a decimated landscape, with no sign of the Skylanders, Eon, or the Core. Luckily, neither of them go into their Dark forms, having learned to control them in Time Dilation Purgatory.
In the wake of the Core of Light being destroyed, the two decide they have to defend the Skylands from Kaos as much as they can, working with Hugo, Flynn, Cali, and others to help the inhabitants of the Skylands and fend of Kaos completely overtaking the realm.
And yes, Kao is stunned by these two clearly ticked off dragons coming for him. He most likely heard stories of the two dragons who defeated the Dark Master from his mom.
Then the time comes, and the group of Skylands freedom fighters all get a message from Eon. The Skylanders are returning.
Then we get to the actual game! Just gonna do Spyro's Adventure, but I may reblog and cover the other games. Or you guys can, up to you. I have only played up to Trap Team, so someone else would need to cover Super Chargers and Imaginators, anyways.
So Hugo acts as an informant, while Flynn is transportation for non-flying individuals, and Cali is a covert operative. You throw your Skylander onto the Portal of Power, putting them into the game.
Hugo is shocked, then greets the Skylander you begin with. While introducing himself, Hugo mentions how "Mister Spyro and Miss Cynder will be quite pleased to see you, again!" Hinting at the above lore, that Spyro and Cynder are both in the game and familiar with the Skylanders.
The first level then proceeds the same is usual, and you meet our two dragons at the ruins after the cutscene going over what happened before the game and how the Skylanders ended up in our world.
Both Spyro and Cynder are shocked, but ultimately elated to see their friends again, then you go to rescue Cali with Flynn. Afterwards, Spyro and Cynder are in the ruins as well as joining you on various levels. They have a lot of witty banter with both the player and each other, showing ease and comfort in their relationship they hadn't had the chance to explore during the war. Again, platonic or romantic is up for interpretation.
What would they do in the game? My idea is that at the ruins, you can interact with one of them to challenge them to a training fight. Once you've been defeated, your Skylander doesn't die, though. You just end the training fight, and can try again. If you win, you get XP, buffs, and/or some loot for upgrades from Persephone.
In the levels, however, it's a little different. You can call on whichever of the two dragons accompany you. When you're good on health, they will act as a guide if you get lost. If you're low on health, they will fly in and fight the enemies for you until you can get a foodstuff to regain your health. They may scold you, referring to your training with them(reference to before the Core of Light was blown up, mostly, in case you don't do training fights), or giving you words of encouragement.
Levels they would be on? Spyro would be on the levels relating to Water, Earth, and Fire. Cynder would be on the levels relating to Undead, Air, and Life. Tech and Magic are undecided. Maybe they both accompany you, or maybe neither of them do. Maybe both for one and neither for the other? Then they say they'll be external support when you go to fight Kaos.
Bonus Levels: Darklight Crypt would feature Cynder, Empire of Ice would feature Spyro, neither join you against the pirates, and both join you to Dragons' Peak.
During the fight with Kaos, however, they do end up joining during the final phase. They attack the hydra, yelling for you to attack Kaos while they hold off the hyrda.
Thoughts?
Boom, Kao defeated, order restored, onwards we go!
Also, random tidbit for Trap Team, specifically the Mirror of Mystery bonus level! Both Spyro and Cynder are corrupted into their Dark forms here, though how voluntary it was remains unclear. Perhaps Evilon used their sorrow of their lost time to get such powerful beings on his side, promising to help them when he really only intended to use them. Or perhaps something else happened. Just a random tidbit there, food for thought.
Feel free to use it if you want. Whether in fanfics, or art.

ARC REVIEW: Wake Me Most Wickedly by Felicia Grossman
Tumblr media
4/5. 4/9/2024.
Vibes: older woman/younger man, Snow White retelling, Jewish historical romance
Heat Index: 6.5/10.
Sol Weiss is looking to live up to the example (and expectations) set by the half-brother who raised him--and that means marrying the right woman. The right woman is NOT Hannah, with a shady past and a shadier lineage. But after she rescues Sol from an attack, he can't get her out of his head. And the more she tries to stay away, the more he wants her...
If you're looking for something light and fun--though not at all silly--with a good dose of interclass conflict and a rough around the edges heroine, this is for you. It's not often that we see heroines who are a) older than their heroes, which Hannah is and b) the more "dangerous" one (in theory) in the couple. At the same time--though Sol is funny and sweet, he's not a milquetoast. Seriously, how could he be with Hannah if he was?
It's like... a feel-good book, but not without stakes. Which is what I think Felicia Grossman is starting to specialize in. With, of course, a strong focus on the 19th century Jewish community in England, which--how often do you see that in romance, despite it being a huge part of the era.
Quick Takes:
--You often do see heroines who have a bit of an edge, but it's less often that you see them actually do things that make them seem more worldly and, dare I say, competent than the hero. Hannah is introduced here as someone who has a lot of responsibilities, doesn't shy away from her sexuality (but also, you get the sense, has never really had someone truly care about her needs), and isn't above committing crimes.
And then... she saves Sol. It's not that Sol isn't competent--more that he doesn't have as much life experience as Hannah. Which tracks, as he's literally younger than her and also comes from a more sheltered background. But I wouldn't say he's spoiled. He's willing to learn. He's eager to learn, really (in every way... yay, a hero who's less experienced in bed than the heroine!).
Sol is a good dude, but as I said before, he's not a boring dude. He wants to do the right thing, but Hannah quickly becomes his priority. Also, he does crochet at one point, and I did find that delightful.
--To be clear, I am not Jewish, and my understanding of Jewish customs and history is superficial at best. But it's clear that Grossman has done her research regarding the era, and I really appreciate that her characters' identities are woven in to the fabric of their beings. Like, there isn't a Very Special Episode Where We're Reminded That The Characters Are Jewish (which I've seen happen when writers who aren't Jewish write characters that are). It's just always there.
--One thing I really liked as Sol and Hannah's relationship progressed was the way that he clearly started to take care of her. I love an independent heroine who takes care of people (Hannah does not have a kid, phew, but she does have a sister she's trying to set up for a better life) and resists the hero trying to care for her. That's done really well here. Sol is like, mildly outraged that this woman doesn't have people looking out for her, and it's very sweet.
--This is a Snow White retelling! There are nods to elements like the Seven Dwarves. I don't know that I would call this a particularly heavy retelling, and I'm not sure that the retelling element was super necessary? But it was cute.
The Sex:
There are several sex scenes in this one, all of which are good, and they usually revolve around Hannah's pleasure. Sol is not super experienced, but he's READY to jump in, and it's really great. In fact, their entire sexual relationship (which begins before the halfway mark, thank God) begins with him basically going "let me help you RELAX" which. Gold. He's a GOOD boy.
For the fans of a face-sitting scene.... There is a great one in this book wherein she is shocked! Shocked I say! And he basically goes "hold on to the bed frame I'm working here".
Anyway, this is a super fun, fluffy-but-not-TOO-fluffy read that gives you something beyond the typical hero/heroine dynamic (which I still love) along with a solid dose of heat. It's for the girlies (and not-girlies) who just want to go home after a long day's work and have our shoulders massaged, and also perhaps other things too. We love to see it.
Thanks to NetGalley and Forever for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If we want to give RWBY the most generous interpretation possible, I'd say the whole thing was meant to say that the mistakes Ruby made in previous volumes were a result of trying to emulate Summer/fairy tale heroes, and the whole arc of the volume is her learning that these heroes are flawed and she shouldn't try to emulate them perfectly. Of course, this really wasn't set up well if that's the case, but hey I'm trying to throw a bone here.
I do think that's the general vibe they were going for. Like the generic "be yourself" message, it's a great takeaway on the surface, just horribly executed to the point of, at times, actively undermining what RT wants to say. Example: accepting yourself is the ultimate end goal so that's why, uh... Ascension turns you into someone entirely new? Unless you're the protagonist, of course, because what story wants to deal with that can of worms.
Beyond the numerous issues I have with Volume 9 itself, I find this "Ruby needed to accept that she was trying to live up to the impossible standard of Summer Rose" to be incredibly unpersuasive given that Summer hasn't been portrayed as a perfect hero for the majority of the series. Maybe at the very start when Ruby was more naively optimistic and less informed, but definitely not past Volume 4. She learned fairly early in the story that Summer didn't just die on a random huntsmen mission doing Good Hero Work, but that this was something connected to Salem - AKA, the super morally ambiguous fight that the group has been criticizing since they learned of its existence. Ruby herself has experienced being a huntress in this world, making gray choices left and right (if I'm being kind), so how in the world would she have maintained this idealized image of Summer's own career? To say nothing of how Ruby never expresses any opinions about Summer, warped or otherwise, because no one ever talks about her. The supposedly ~emotional~ trinket this Volume was a rose emblem Ruby gave up after never ONCE mentioning it before she's given it back from the tree and... proceeds to continue not mentioning it. After 9 Volumes Summer has remained firmly in the personality void of Dead Mothers. All we knew about her going into this Volume was that she was a SEW and liked to bake cookies. We couldn't even emphasize her reading Ruby impressionable, highly inaccurate fairy tales because the early Volumes told us that Yang read her those. Summer doesn't exist as a person, so all we have to work with is Ruby's own experiences which consistently undermine the idea that her mother was a flawless hero. She was part of what Ruby now knows to be a highly, systematically flawed career, working for Ozpin, who then died. Without some inkling as to how Ruby sees her mother - and how she's maintained that narrow perspective in the face of everything in Volumes 3-8 - what about this says Perfect Person, Impossible to Emulate?
Which makes the whole "My mother LIED? Omg she wasn't perfect?? Clearly I don't need to be perfect either! 🤯" revelation... not really a revelation at all. Which isn't even taking into account a) Ruby's own choice to give a doozy of a lie a couple weeks back (if anything, she should consider that a mark in Summer's favor) and b) the fact that this depression, self-doubt, and suicidal ideation stems from the very real problems Ruby has no idea how to fix. It's like watching someone collapse because their house is on fire and they don't have any means of putting it out. "Don't worry," the mystical therapist says, "Your mother loves you and you don't have to be perfect." Fantastic takeaway! The house is still burning.
