Hey, this is probably different than the usual asks you get, but do you have any ideas on how to battle the urge to cut myself? Been struggling and I don't really know what to do😕
{Let’s Talk about Battling the Urge to Self-Harm…}
Hey sweetheart… *sigh* This is a hard topic, and I am very proud of you for bringing it up. You are very brave, sweet anon. I want to preface this by reminding you that I am not a professional. This advice is from my own research, experiences, and experiences to those close to me. Nonetheless, Let’s talk about it. ♥️
TW//CW//: this conversation includes discussion of self harm, specifically cutting, along with suicidal ideations d tendencies.
So, what would I recommend on how to battle the urge to cut yourself?
Most importantly, I would recommend are some articles for you and anyone else to read about self harm and cutting, and topics related to it. It’s good to be informed, to understand what you or someone close to you is going through. Take the time to educate yourself. 🤍🤍
This is a quick read from the Mayo Clinic at what self-injury/cutting entails diagnosis, treatment options, symptoms, and causes— Self-Injury/Cutting.
The following is an article from HelpGuide that talks about what self-harm and cutting are, and what steps you can take to avoid self-harm. I’d highly recommend reading this article, or at least glancing it over— Cutting and Self-Harm.
This next article is from Medical News Today that covers how to stop cutting for yourself and for someone else in your life, maybe you know someone close to you that cuts— How to stop yourself or somewhere else from cutting.
Now, if you do cut/self-harm, while I do not condone such actions, you need to have the resources for limiting the extent of the self-harm. This report/article is from the North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, if you self-harm, I’d highly recommend you give it a read— Self-Harm: Limiting the Damage.

Besides research, being educated and in the know, I firstly and highly recommend that if you are struggling/battling with self-harm and/or cutting for you to confide in someone. A lot of the resources above mention this crucial step in battling and then healing self harm. Those feelings driving you to self-harm need to be processed in a healthy manner. Start with one person, and lay as much on the table as you can. See what they think, ask what their experiences are, etc. If the person is a professional, that’s even better.
Along with confiding in someone, seek professional help and care. There are many Psychotherapy’s that can be helpful and address suicidal tendencies, including self harm. Everyone is different, so what works for you is going to range depending on the person. Check out the first link above from the Mayo Clinic to read about some of the different Psychotherapy treatment options.
Next, I would strongly recommend identifying your self-harm tendencies and replacing them with healthy coping mechanisms. There are many replacement coping mechanisms that you can do when you have the urge to cut, and which ones work for you will depend on the person. But don’t give up if one doesn’t help, keep exploring and find what works for you best. You got this ♥️
