#quoi queerplatonic
aroaceconfessions · 1 year
Note
I'm not exactly sure where to ask this, hoping this is the right place since its attractions related.
Is there a quoi queerplatonic flag? If it's like the other quoi identities but with queerplatonic attraction, I think that's something I identify with, but I haven't found anything for it online. Is that a thing? I'm cool with identifying as aquaspec (queerplatonic spectrum) but I still figured I'd ask.
Any answers or similar identies would be appreciated!

What are your Charlie headcanons? If you don’t mind me asking
ofc i don't mind my dear beloved anon
Tumblr media
canonically genderfluid and pansexual; to me, they're also quioromantic, aceflux, polyamorous and dates exclusively queerplatonically, as well as switching pronouns often. in the polycule au, notable partners of theirs include zari tomaz, frost, nate, sara, ava, amaya, etc etc
obviously her sisters were abusive to her. lachesis was mentally manipulative and atropos was more on the physical side. they were also transphobic toward her, unaccepting of her fluidity and the way she utilized her shapeshifting. part of why charlie broke the loom was so she'd never have to be forced into being only and forever the gender the fates were assigned.
idk what he's got but its not neurotypical
xe considers "clotho" xyr deadname
^on that point, the legends have a running habit of desecrating statues of cl*tho with xyr real name, as well as any textbooks that include it. zari joys in fighting wikipedia articles, citing "dude i'm dating xem trust me" as her source
the reason i headcanon charlie as quoiromantic is because how similar this hairstyle is to the colors of the quoi flag, and i think charlie would get a kick out of quoiromantic's original name being wtfromantic;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
considering charlie chose to stay in the 1970s, nowadays you can see her fighting in various movements of that time; women's rights, queer rights, etc. if there's a riot, protest and/or march in london, charlie's going to have been seen there. no legend is surprised when charlie shows up in photographs of those times, and they regularly reach out to her if there's a mission in her area/time. she's still something of a part-time legend in that aspect
she likes the marvel show cloak and dagger; she likes how whimsy it gets with new orleans mythology
when visiting the present, she's in a band with black siren and the canaries called the big bad aftermath.
charlie and the enchantress have definitely hooked up at least once. in fact, i think the enchantress was one of the first women that truly caught charlie's eye and made him realize he liked girls
john and charlie often talk shit abt the greek deities like gossipy little bitches
that's all i can think of rn comrade 🫡

Thank you for the ask :D
9. What made me realize I'm Aroace?
Well, I realized I'm ace first and it was on a walk outside with my asexual friend. He talked about his experience and I was like "Hold up, people actually feel sexual attraction???!!?? THAT EXISTS??" and then I tried on the label demiace to see if it fits me, but it didn't, since I thought I needed an emotional bond but it didn't change anything about the fact that I never felt sexual attraction lmao. So I had the asexual label for a very long time :D (Btw I also found the label aegosexual which I use alongside of identifying as ace)
Figuring out I'm aromantic took way longer tho
I remember also choosing the demiromantic label and having that one for way longer bc I couldn't grasp the concept of romantic attraction no matter what so I just stuck with "I bet I'll feel it once I have a deep enough connection with someone for sure".
A lot of time passes and after I broke up with my toxic ex, I reflected on my romantic attraction or rather the lack of it.
I looked back only to find that every time I confessed my "feelings" to someone, it was because I felt pressured to do so and going into a romantic relationship with that someone was something I had to do once I felt something (even though I didn't feel romantic attraction). After those confessions and making a relationship official I just felt dreaded and sad, without knowing the cause and being mad at myself because "I'm supposed to be happy rn". Kissing always felt like a robotic action, like my mind was somewhere else and I was overanalyzing my lip movements without actually enjoying the kissing part. Besides, kissing (especially with tongue) is very repulsing for me.
My other friend (who is Aroace and figured out being aro way earlier then me) once told me that "wait, why can't you do all those things in a romantic relationship also in a platonic one? It all sounds like friendship to me."
I should've known earlier when I related very hard to that statement and couldn't answer their question when they asked me what romantic attraction is supposed to feel like.
So I finally came to terms with being Aroace! (Quoi- and belllusromantic as well) and now have two very amazing queerplatonic relationships :)
10. What would I rather do then a romantic relationship?
Being so close to my friends that everyone assumes we are romantic partners even though we know we aren't, cuddles, kisses on the forehead and sharing domestic lives. But also, I want to be pinned down by pretty boys and kissed along my neck (I enjoy kisses on my neck because they actually feel good, unlike kisses to the lips) and have a make out session without the making out...you know? (AGH IT'S SO COMPLICATED)
50. Any arospec headcanons?
Okay, hear me out, but I think Kunikida is aromantic/greyromantic.
Because the way he plans out his "The one" to the point you could consider them fictional because the standards are so high? That man just has internalised aphobia because he wants "To wait for the one and he won't date anyone else until he finds them" sounds very aro in denial to me. Or he is greyromantic and finds a person he does feel romantic attraction to and is like. "What the fuck, this isn't supposed to happen. I thought love is a thing I can choose and control??? The right one ACTUALLY EXISTS????"
so yeah.
Sorry for the rambling I usually don't get to talk a lot about my Aroace identity in real life so thanks for listening :3

What Do I Want?
A Queerplatonic Partner. That’s what I want. And I don’t understand why it’s taken me this long to come to that conclusion. Whenever I try to explain to allos what I want in place of a romantic relationship, I end up just describing a queerplatonic relationship. And I’ve only just realised that.
I don’t want a boyfriend/girlfriend/significant other. I want a partner. No, not the partner you’re thinking of. Not a romantic partner.
I want a best friend. No, not the best friend you’re thinking of.
I want a life partner. Not a life we share. Two individual, separate lives. Two individual separate paths that just so happen to intersect more often than not.
I don’t want someone to come and complete me. I don’t want a better half. I want someone who can validate what I’ve already made of myself.
I don’t want someone who can answer my questions. I want someone asking the same questions as me. I know that person would, at the very least, have an idea of the life I’ve lead and the world I’ve seen. And they’d know what I need because it would remind them of what they need. Besides, questions are lot less fun once they’ve been answered.
I want someone who can fight my personal strain of loneliness. I don’t want anyone trying to treat me for the same loneliness that society assumes everyone has.
I wouldn’t even care if the relationship appeared romantic from the outside. We’d know it belonged to us, not to romantic culture. Only we would understand what it meant and no amount of fairy tales, rom-coms or friendly dating advice would clue anyone else into what we’d have together.
That’s what I want. Yeah.
- Watt
If anyone with a QPP wants to share their experience, please do. I would love to hear it.
Is your QP another arospec person you’ve met? Or did you explain the concept to a friend who you really wanted to be QPs with?

Welcome!
(my ongoing queerplatonic fiction masterpost)
This is a positivity blog for people like me who are idemromantic and/or platoniromantic, and/or relate to similar experiences of having trouble distinguishing between platonic and romantic feelings! There will also be romo aro and aroallo positivity here as that's something I relate to.
Mod info:
Mars/Maria/Mabel/Colt/Duck
a 23 y/o nonbinary genderqueer person
uses ze/zir or they/them pronouns
currently IDs as idemromantic, platoniromantic, and pansexual
has recently fallen head-first into a terrifying and illuminating arospec awakening :]
General info:
Why highlight both idemromantic and platoniromantic?
I don't do this to conflate the two. It also isn't to label an idemromantic person as platoniromantic or vice versa. It's simply because I identify as both and noticed that both of my identities lack solidarity, content, and general chatter :) I want to gather information and positivity here, and maybe create some myself.
I also don't conflate these identities with romo aro, romance favorable, etc.; I just also relate to that so you will see it here too.
Isn't platoniromantic the same thing as quoiromantic?
As far as I know, the original coiner of quoiromantic intended it to mean that romantic attraction is not applicable, nonsensical, etc. The definition that quoiromantic is a difficulty distinguishing between attraction came later. Regardless of how quoi is used now, it doesn't precisely describe my experiences and I don't relate to its focus on confusion/wtf/what. I much more relate to platoniromantic!
So are quoi and platoni the same? Idk, I just know they aren't the same for me!
What goes on this blog?
Positivity! Art, affirmations, discussion, and general community.
I'm questioning, can you help me?
Sorry, but I'm not comfortable labelling or guiding someone. All of my answers would boil down to "identity is complicated and you should use a term if it helps you," and I don't want to even remotely pretend I'm an authority of any kind. Thanks for understanding!
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy your stay! <3

7: Choose five characters: one that you could see as grey-aro, one as demiromantic, one as quoiromantic, one as aegoromantic, and one as lithromantic
I can't say I've ever thought of any aego headcanons :( And I've got a niggling feeling I came across a character a while ago that gave off quoi vibes but my terrible memory has betrayed me :/
(vague awtwb spoilers) So Agatha felt very aro to me upon rereads of Carry On and Wayward Son, but after awtwb if we're keeping canon I think maybe greyro or lithro fits. (Or maybe she was feeling a different type of attraction like alterous or sexual)
I've said it before and I'll say it again: demiromantic Anne Shirley my beloved
Considering I've only given you 2/5 characters, have some bonus arospec headcanons:
Bilbo Baggins aroace icon (I mean is this even a headcanon? It's basically canon right?)
Luna Lovegood gives off very aspec vibes. Maybe aroace lesbian? Something like that
For more recent fandoms uhh Reki from Sk8 The Infinity? I absolutely headcanon him as demiromantic (and demisexual). I hold equal amounts of love for romantic renga and queerplatonic renga fight me
20: Which fandom you’ve been in was the most aro-friendly?
I'm not *in* a whole lot of fandoms in the sense of actively participating. Most of the time I vibe with the content on my own or with my irl friends, or in a one-way direction with fic or fanart. So I don't know if I really have an answer for this?
In terms of text rather than fandom, I want to give a very special shoutout to my favourite lovequeer vibes series/relationship that hit me like a truck and changed my view of love (before I even realised I was aro): The Realm of the Elderlings, specifically the love The Fool/Beloved has for Fitz (and vice versa, once Fitz gets over himself). Just. Hnnnnng lovequeer, lovequeer, queerplatonic, boundless & undefined love sksjakdhfhjddkdk 😩
22: Do you have an opinion on romantically shipping aromantic characters?
Heh. Heh. I have a half-finished meme about this. Yeah so:
Aros go ahead. But alloros on the whole just stay awayyyy from this pls. I just don't trust an alloro to get the nuances of that experience (either a greyro feeling attraction or an aro entering a romantic relationship without attraction) right. I just don't. Like I think I've said this before: you can't just slap an allo relationship on an arospec character. I mean, taking a canon (or heavily implied) relationship and headcanoning a character as arospec is a little different, but yeah definitely not taking an already arospec character and romantically shipping them. This is even more true if that character is very clearly stated to be strictly aromantic and romance repulsed etc etc. It's also hard for me to trust their motives when shipping aro characters.
If an alloro reeeally wants to ship a greyro/romo aro character they should 1) think about why - is it actually just internalised amatonormativity and arophobia? And 2) talk to romo aros and really force yourself to understand that the experience is very different to an alloromantic one.
Whoo okay I'm done. Concise? I don't know her 😅
Thanks for the ask! 💚

I go by Thomas; I used he/they/zi/she pronouns (in order of preference) and I’m genderfluid! I’m bi-oriented aroace, and also a huge nerd, so thats mostly what you’ll see on here, as well as some of my OCs. I do take requests! These can be unrelated, or things like, “can you do the aromantic manta ray pattern with the lesbian flag?”
My Redbubble is open, although not all designs are uploaded yet You can also support me on my Instagram, @weird.queers.shop!

Istos-
An orientation/modifier for when, due to neurodiversity, a person feels platonic attraction felt to an intensity that mainstream society associates with romance, which causes severe confusion. The person may struggle to determine if their attraction is platonic, or if it’s actually romantic. They may feel like their attraction straddles the lines between romantic, queerplatonic, and alterous.
Can be used as a prefix for whichever attraction the person thinks fits best, e.g. istosplatonic, or as a standalone, e.g. “I am istos / I feel istos attraction”.
Istos comes from the Greek ἀγνώριστος (a)gnw/ristos), meaning ‘unascertained’ or ‘unknown’.
Similar to idore. See also quoi-, nebularomantic, idem-.

Is “I’m AFAB but I don’t feel female or like a woman at all, I would much rather claim the labels genderqueer, probably genderqueer guy, and solarian, I might even want a more masc-sounding additional name to go by” really enough to call myself non-binary and by extension identify under the transgender umbrella?
I haven’t felt gender dysphoria since puberty (I think), also I’m so mentally eff’d up I wouldn’t claim myself to be valid about anything… I don’t wanna claim labels I shouldn’t.
I can settle with being proudly queer by the way of my identity as oriented aromantic asexual (experiencing queerplatonic or alterous attraction, I currently would go by quoi-alterous because of that)
I dunno who I could ask for validation because this seems such a nonsensical worry and I have more important things I should care about and I shouldn’t feel entitled to a gender identity at all (if “entitled to a gender” even makes sense when it’s coming from someone who self-invalidates over the most petty things) …
I shouldn’t distract myself from my mental health (or lack thereof) but here I am

Survey Maker’s Notes
I was surprised by quite a few of the results of this survey.
The first thing that really stuck out to me was the popularity of the quoi/WTF label. I’ve seen the flag and term plenty of times on tumblr, but I don’t think I’ve ever followed someone who identifies as quoiromantic or quoisexual, so I assumed it was not as common.
On the flip side, when I started getting involved in a-spec tumblr a few years back I saw the term “fray” very often, and assumed it was a common label. However, no one identified as frayromantic and only 1 person identified as fraysexual.
I was expecting to see a few demiromantic demisexuals, but I believe I only saw 2 people who identified with both labels. There were more people who identified as demiromantic asexual. On that note, more people identified as demiromantic (78) than demisexual (53) by a significant margin.
Nearly 70% of respondents were both aro-spec and ace-spec, and nearly 50% identify with the term aroace. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this majority surprised me.
Although the number is dwarfed by the amount of aroace-specs, I was surprised to see 39 alloaros. I tend to see way more asexual and ace-spec content on this website, so I tend to think of alloaces and aroaces as being much more common than alloaros, but that’s not necessarily true.
I’ve done surveys like this in the past, and I always get people of writing in labels like “gay”, “hetero-demi”, “bi”, “panromantic”, etc. These all should go under “an allo/non-a-spec orientation”. I don’t know if there’s a way to word that option in the future that will make it more clear that that is its purpose. The main issue with this is that it makes it harder to accurately portray results; every time a person writes in their own answer under “other”, it’s usually worded or capitalized slightly differently than other write-ins saying the same thing. “Bisexual”, “bisexual”, “bi”, “Bi”, and “bi i guess” are all shown as different answers, so I have to go through all of the write-ins, tally them up, and add them to the “allo/non-a-spec orientation” number.
The 2 notable exceptions to this are “queer” and “Bambi lesbian”. 2 different people wrote in Bambi lesbian under 2 different questions. These results were counted as their own thing is because Bambi lesbian is a term often used by specifically asexual lesbians (which both of these people are), making it an a-spec identity. Terms like “bi” are not inherently a-spec.
“Queer” was given its own category because it is a purposefully vague word with a very broad definition. For some people being queer is part of their a-spec identity, and for others it is not. Nearly 50% of respondents identified with “queer” as a romantic label and nearly 80% identified with it as a sexuality label. In hindsight, I probably should have had the option for question 3 as well.
I forgot to add cupio as an option in questions 1 and 2. I thought that I had, because that’s a term I also have seen quite a bit.
There was a typo for a day or 2 that listed terms like “aroflux” and “arovague” as options for question 2 instead of “aceflux” and “acevague”. This is because I copy pasted question 1 and just changed some parts to create question 2, and missed a few. This may have effected the results.
I think it’s important to consider that the available options likely influenced the results in some way. For example, for question 3 more people may have chosen “queerplatonic” if it had been an option, and less people may have chosen “alterous” if they had to write it in. I did consider adding queerplatonic as an option, bur I don’t identify with the term so I wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate to call it an a-spec label, or a label at all.
I was glad to see that there were people who did not choose labels that could have technically described them, because people do that all the time. I was worried that someone who is alloromantic and allosexual may click the “alloace” option even if they didn’t actually use that term for themself. This is the reason I did not give definitions for terms: I wanted people to indicate the words that they already use.
There were some specific respondents that I found interesting. The first that comes to mind is a person who said that they are graysexual, but specifically not in an a-spec way. I’ve never heard of the term being used outside of an asexual context, so now I want to look into that identity to learn more about it.
I was surprised to see so many people identify as only queer, without also choosing the allo or a-spec modifier. It was a road bump data collection wise, but a lot of times the way people actually are is hard to put into boxes.
There wasn’t a more appropriate place to put this, but under the blog rec question one person write “i do not know a damn thing my dude” which I thought was very funny.
There were quite a few answered along the lines of  “questioning”, “confused”, “???”, “allo-ish”, “it’s looking less and less allo by the day lmao”. The reason I didn’t include “questioning” as an answer is because the main purpose of me doing this survey was to figure out what flags to use in edits, and although there are questioning flags I don’t see many people actually using them. In hindsight, a should have added that option. I feel like questioning an a-spec identity can tend to take longer than allo identities because you’re trying to figure out if something isn’t there.
I thought it was interesting that there were at least 2 people who prefer the term “ace” and pretty much never use “asexual”. I tend to think of them as exactly the same, but they definitely have slightly different connotations.
If anyone has any questions about the survey and its responses, feel free to reach out to me! I had a lot of fun compiling the data and learning more about this specific circle of the a-spec community. 💚💜
