2024, hand bleached and dyed denim, cotton batting and thread
inspired by blackwater photography of plankton! this was my first time layering bleach painting. All the silhouettes were painted with bleaching gel, loosely tie dyed, and then bleached again to make the highlights. I quilted the piece using my free motion foot to outline each individual animal and tacked down the rest of the quilt with small satin stitches that remind me of marine snow. I dyed bias tape to match. super happy with this one and excited to show it in a gallery setting soon!
i change like the tides and i am beautiful every time.

The “love is what makes us human” logic is so goofy cause first of all, we know other animals love, but also??? Would you use that logic for any other species??? Like “yeah sniffing butts is what makes them dogs.” “Oh my god that golden retriever doesn’t sniff butts??? It’s obviously not a dog then!” Dude. I am a human because both of my biological parents are humans and that’s how genetics works. Leave me alone.
By "vagina owner" and "uterus haver", by "*pregnant person not pregnant woman", by "sex work is work", and by retaining the mentality that what is social is superior to and transcends what is biological, you are reducing biology and especially female biology down to a material, exploitable natural resource.
I’m so excited to share these little guys, especially after teasing at a pair of saltwater fish earrings coming to the shop. I remember seeing these guys in an aquarium for the first time and almost crying my eyes out because of how cool they were lol.
large mantises like the chinese mantis will occasionally (when they are very hungry) prey on hummingbirds, waiting at sugar-water feeders to ambush them
