One thing the guys who criticise Netflix for its racial diversity in The Witcher always seem to forget
Had this discussion with this guy on Reddit again, always the same arguments, of course, the lore allegedly is all Slavic/white European. And then they pretend to care for the identity of other cultures and that they should be preserved and distinguishable and that there's Zerrikania on the continent for black people. Yes, Zerrikania, featuring so prominently in the books, right ...
What they totally seem to overlook, humans came to the continent through the Conjunction of the Spheres about 1,500 years before the events of the novels. They did not evolve on the continent through survival of the fittest. The distribution of skin colour on the continent ought to be mostly random. Yes, people who came from hot places in their original world and have a very dark skin colour as adaptation to the climate in their lost sphere of origin might prefer to settle regions like Zerrikania with a similar climate. But why wouldn't they settle in Toussaint, for example? Fringilla being dark skinned does not have to mean she has ancestors from Zerrikania and does not need to be explained in any way. Same with culture, people from all kinds of different cultures have very likely landed on the continent together and mixed their cultures while they were helping each other to survive in a totally new world. Why should there be distinct cultures related to skin colour and climate after only 1,500 years of populating the continent? A mix makes a lot more sense under these unique circumstances.
There was also a very funny thing one guy asked me when I wrote something like: Oh yes, the Korath desert is very Eastern European.
Did you know there's a desert in Poland? Yes, there actually is. We also have several "deserts" in Germany, but they are all so small, even a toddler would have difficulty getting lost in one of them 😂. Of course Sapkowski was exclusively thinking of this miniature Polish desert when he created the Korath 😂.

"I miss when movies weren't political-"
ALIEN is about a megacorporation coercing some salvagers into transporting a dangerous creature without telling them what it is, all because the creature could be a great bioweapon for them. When a survivor of this failed transport mission wants reparations, they screw her over to avoid a scandal.
ROBOCOP is about another mega-corporation experimenting with a cop's body and declaring him their property, trying to reduce him to an obedient killing machine who can maintain the status quo for them.
JURASSIC PARK is about a rich billionaire going all out to make a dinosaur-themed amusement park, not caring about the real-world implications of resurrecting giant lizards. He also underpays ONE guy to maintain the entire park's security systems so predictably, that one guy betrays him at a crucial moment.
The best movies weave their politics with plot & character, so you can enjoy them as entertainment but can also notice the themes. Movies without themes wind up being all spectacle and no substance, just noise and color like Michael Bay's Transformers franchise. Yeah, they make money, but they'll be forgotten in 2 generations.

Famously heterosexual Alexander the Great is genuinely the funniest (unintentional) meme of the year.

Anyone who doesn’t meet the European beauty standards represented by Sydney Sweeney isn’t “beautiful,” and if YOU identify as a woman but don’t look like this particular thin young blonde white woman, then you are not beautiful. That is the argument of transphobes who happen to be (surprise) disproportionately white and who are, more often than not, conservative + racist + classist + misogynistic.
Leave it to bigoted white conservatives to completely bastardize the original meaning of wokeness into meaning something negative that represents a threat to whiteness. But then again, racism and transphobia tend to hang out at the same parties.
Decades ago, white people hated disco music largely because it was a Black music genre that was welcoming to Black people and the LGBTQ community. Similarly, reduced down to its most basic essence, being “anti-woke” is yet another iteration of transphobia, homophobia and anti-Blackness.

At this point, Pseudo-Scientific American is basically as reliable as The National Enquirer.
This is what ideological takeover looks like.

entertainment business makes bad castings (race swaps) on purpose. this provokes people and the project gets instant attention without putting much effort into marketing. they are able to create entertainment which can't be criticised without you being branded as a bigot for not liking it. the audience has to love it. we have to stand up and clap.
especially black women are often used as objects for virtue signaling and marketing boosters but it's branded as "diversity" and "representation" - but they are also the ones who are put in the spotlight for people to verbally abuse them online. I think all of this is racist itself.

Lol.
And for the record, if you look at the crew/workers. They were all white.
Rush (doomed CEO) just hired younger people because 1) they were cheaper 2) wouldn’t be confident or brave to question his cost-cutting and general indifference to safety than a more experienced person would.

"By understanding the history of wokeness, and anti-wokeness, we can understand why the right wing invests so much into being anti-woke. It’s important for the rest of us to not participate in making 'woke' an insult, as tempting as it may be. Ultimately it only serves to make it seem shameful, or even deranged, to question anti-Blackness." - Tarika Powell, "Wokeness: a brief history"
