Say their name.
CW AND TW: CHILD DEATH
Say.
Tumblr media
Their.
Tumblr media
Name.
Tumblr media
Nex Benedict was a indigenous trans nonbinary teenager. Their head was beaten against the floor in a bathroom stall. Less than 24 hours later, they died, most likely from undiagnosed head trauma. Conservatives say they want to, "protect the children", where was the protection for Nex? That's the thing. There wasn't any. Nex died. And many more trans, queer, and nonbinary minors will if we don't step up and do something. What happened to Nex has and will happen to queer folk around the globe. Say their name.
Edit: I didn't expect this to get much attention, but thank you everyone. What alot of people, "forget" to mention was that Nex was two spirited, which means they were indigenous. The fact that I wouldn't have heard about this if I didn't have Tumblr is absolutely revolting. News needs to be covering this. But what are Republicans doing? Sucking their thumbs and crying about how, "trans people shouldn't be able to piss". What are Democrats doing? Twiddling their thumbs and groveling to an old geezer that somehow falls up the stairs and supports I$r3@l. It's disgusting and America needs to do better.
Edit 2: Any and all hate/saying that Nex Benedict wasn't murdered (they were) will immediately get deleted, just because you don't like trans people doesn't mean you can be an whiny little bitch. A child was murdered. This has nothing to do with politics, a child was murdered.

i met a queer high schooler today, at my job
throughout the interaction i had with them, i watched them become more relaxed and open, simply seeing me as a queer adult doing my job
i sort of feel like i served as an example for that student, of a queer person existing successfully in society.
i could pick up on their habits mannerisms and fashion, and related my own experiences to that. they were visibly disabled, so i wanted to ease their mind about accessibility concerns in the building, so i mentioned my heart condition and trouble with walking up stairs. they were immediately more comfortable. we used the elevator
i complimented their nonbinary pride flag bracelet, and pushed my hair aside so they could see my name badge with my pronouns, and they smiled.
it's so freeing to be seen without the expectation for any explanation, and i know that so i wanted to give them that peace of mind. i wanted to show them that the world outside of high school is survivable. hope is not crushed, i am here, i am visibly queer, and so it is possible for them too.

okay now that the committee hearing about KOSA is started, i need all of you to do something.
i need all of you to call them like you're being put on voicemail and your grandma's dying.
you will make sure these fuckers phones buzz so much they fall off the table. they will get ANNOYED with you. MAKE SURE IT HAPPENS.
the number is 813-492-2379, and you will just give them a piece of your mind. make the ringtone your favorite song to make you feel better. if it makes you feel cooler, imagine you're going off to battle or something.
while calling, you can use a script, or simply say that you are calling about KOSA and the earn it act and restrict act, and say YOU DO NOT SUPPORT THEM!

Queer Joy? No. Time to talk about Queer Fear.
conservatives saying that the queer community is indoctrinating kids are so fucking blind. Back when I was a kid I was worried constantly. Like what if some gunman sees this pride sticker on my water bottle and kills me? What if a terf outs me against my will? What if my transphobic grandma takes me to church and sits me down for a long republican conversation? What if I have an anxiety attack and hurt myself? (I was 12. I was FUCKING TWELVE. This was my childhood.)
I’m done with this fucking shit. Queer people are not groomers, pedophiles, or murderers. I feel safer with a queer person on tumblr than I would with ANY REPUBLICAN.
queers aren’t killing kids, conservatives are.
pls reblog to spread awareness

I am not seeing enough about this on here.
Please call your senators and tell them to vote against the KOSA bill. This will only put more children at risk

"'I grew up a queer teen on the fringes, and didn't feel like the world was made for me,' [New Jersey librarian Jenna] Ingham tells Yahoo Life. 'The goal is to be there for the teens, to make them feel seen, to make them feel valid.' Because, Ingham adds, "When you see yourself reflected back at you in the book, you feel like there is a place for you.'
"...'I had a teen tell me I was the only adult in their life that respects their pronouns,' Ingham shares. 'I recently had a trans teen come out to me. I had only just met them, but after 25 minutes of conversation they felt comfortable. I believe I was the first person they said it out loud to.'"

Call To Action: Letter-writing campaign in support of inclusive education in Canada
Most of my Canadian followers know about the anti-LGBTQIA2S+ "1 Million March 4 Children" events that took place across Canada last Wednesday, and I know a lot of people are feeling a little helpless, especially those of us in towns and cities where the protestors far outweighed the LGBTQIA2S+ and allied counterprotestors.
So, with that in mind, I am challenging every Canadian who supports inclusive education to contact your elected officials at all levels (Member of Parliament, MLA, Municipal Council, School Board...) by:
Sending TEN emails;
Writing/printing out and mailing FIVE physical letters; and finally,
Making ONE phone call
by Oct 1st to let your representatives know that the "March 4 Children" doesn't speak for you, and to call on them to do whatever is in their power to ensure schools are safe and inclusive for LGBTQIA2S+ kids and families.

One party wants to protect queer kids and sexual assault survivors. The other party wants a white nationalist dictator. Both sides are not the same.

This. This is why you need to vote. This is why voting matters. If you aren't familiar with things like the Heritage Foundation and Project 2025, they are a literal organization and the no joke playbook created by said organization that are dedicated to destroying anything they consider queer, pedophilic, trans, foreign, or against their ideals. Which is basically anything even slightly left of christian fascism. When you argue that voting doesn't help, when you tell people it doesn't matter, you're helping these people win. So please, please for the fucking love of everything, vote. Vote. Because these people will vote.

one of the kids at my job calls queer people 'el jibbity' and i think it's adorable
this lil dude is cishet, but he's so respectful and always asking me the meanings of queer flags and what order the colors go in so he can color them for me and his friends
he'll eat homophobes, he loves learning about queer people and their experiences, and is active with his support and vocal in his defense of our community. he'll smile in joy when i tell him about new 'el jibbity lore' or when one of the other kiddos tells him of their queerness. a ten year old. i make sure he knows he's loved and appreciated by us el jibbities.
in the most aggressive voice a ten year old boy can muster, he voices his support for the 'el jibbity' community (not even sure where he heard of the el jibbity meme) and i think all allies should be like that.
i think that's what humanity should be like. a little silly, childlike and wonderful, curious, and supportive.
this new generation of children is something else
