The "male favoritism" in the encanto fandom was insane
People really watched a movie about amazingly well written female characters suffering from generational trauma and decided to make everything about this dude who had 3 minutes of screentime

I hope you feel better soon! For the senoritas perfectas au, maybe some fluff for Camilo and Mirabel? How they interact with Mirabel not having grown up isolated, but “perfect”. Or, maybe something with Antonio and mirabel, anything with those two is always adorable.
Thanks! Today was not as bad, thankfully 😅
Tumblr media
It was a public event, so they had to be on their best behaviour, but Mirabel still leaned in to whisper, "Were we ever that hyper?"
A group of tiny, screaming kids ran past, sparklers in hand. Their shrieks of joy were deafening and they were clearly hyped up on all the sugary sweets available; they had that wild glint in their eyes that only very young children could get on a sugar rush.
Their smiles were a little too manic for comfort.
Camilo liked kids; he thought they were hilarious most of the time. You never knew what kids would do or say next. It made for prime entertainment.
He still had the good sense to duck behind one of Casita's pillars, pulling Mirabel with him as the kids ran past again.
"We were worse," he said with a smirk, still with one eye on the kids. If they got too out of hand, he'd surely be expected to intervene and so would Mirabel.
Mirabel watched the kids with a mix of awe and terror.
"Antonio's looking more like an angel by the second," she said, wincing in sympathy as a trio of kids threw themselves at Luisa, climbing her like a jungle-gym. Luisa looked at them in bafflement, then shrugged and continued talking to Tio Agustín.
"Antonio is an angel," Camilo said. "Remind me to change that."
Mirabel grabbed him by the front of his ruana, a spark of light leaping from her fingertip and held threateningly under his chin like it was a flame.
"Corrupt him and I'll break you," she promised.

Hi! I recently read Disenchanted rewrite and from the snippet I saw, I find it to be better than the movie. I especially love how you gave the two sisters an actual relationship with each other.
Oh my, this is really huge for my rewrite, thank you so much for your simple and really helpful feedback. While we’re at it, how about I break down the first 5 things on my fic to do list to help share why I’m rewriting Disenchanted:
I rewrote Disenchanted because I had to: This is going to be really quick, the reason I’m rewriting this sequel is because I got so pissed off by how out of character Giselle, Robert, and Morgan were depicted in the movie I couldn’t get past the first act satisfied and ended up looking at spoilers on wiki and Moderngurlz’s review. Since Disenchanted got sent to streaming and the sneak peeks ended up killing the hype, this movie never stood a chance with the Rotten Tomatoes critics and the Oscars. Hopefully, once Wish comes out this November it’ll end up avoiding the pitfalls Disenchanted ended up in. Let’s face it, no one on the Disenchanted writing team actually understood the assignment.
2. I rewrote Disenchanted’s prologue because I felt like it: Let’s just say I didn’t like the chipmunks recapping the first movie and speedrunning the whole prologue. That’s why I had Morgan and Sofie recap the first movie to make it more audibly tolerable for the readers.
3. I made Morgan the main protagonist because I felt like it: Let’s be honest, Morgan was done so dirty in the sequel, because the whole movie had Giselle be the main character (*cough* main character syndrome *cough) I really did not like how her portrayal as a stereotypical angsty teenager felt really forced and the excuse got old super fast. It also shows that nobody knew how to write an authentic teenaged character. Mirabel, Camilo, Mei, Miriam, Priya, and Abby worked because they were all given their own unique traits that made them likable to the audience, while Morgan in the first act felt pretty irritating and unoriginal. That’s why I drastically changed her personality in my rewrite.
4. I aged up Morgan’s little sister Sofia to be 6 years old because I felt like it: One of the issues of Disenchanted that ended up being executed poorly, was Giselle having a new kid, Sofia. The downside why it didn’t work out was that in the film Sofia doesn’t really impact the story since she’s just a freaking infant that doesn’t do much. The problem with writing infant characters especially under one is that they don’t really have much agency in the story and end up becoming living props.  Heck, Mayday Parker from Across the Spiderverse was a more compelling character cause she was animated really well in her own movie. Oh yeah, Across the Spiderverse works so well as a sequel because it respects its characters. More infant characters that actually work in a story are Jack Jack (Incredibles), Sunny Baudelaire (A series of unfortunate events) and Grogu (The Mandalorian) In Disenchanted, Infant!Sofie existed as a plot device just to show how tough city life(well not really to me) got for the Philips and why Giselle decided to move her family to Monroeville.  She existed as a plot device just so knockoff Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather could find someone to babysit.  She existed as a plot device just so Edward and Nancy could give her a wand.  She exists as a plot device as a true Andalasian(oh yeah spoilers that doesn’t really touched upon in the movie) to make Morgan feel inferior in her own family. Maybe they should’ve had her be played by a child actor instead of twin infants. Not only would that have given us an interesting dynamic with her older sister Morgan, but it also could have subverted the mean step sister trope, (that whole trope subversion gimmick never happens in the sequel, that’s when you know this was gonna be disappointing.). Or if they wanted the evil stepmother personality shifts to make more sense, they could’ve just had Giselle be pregnant until the end of the movie (no wait, that topic would be too sensitive for Disney to show). Or just not have a new child to keep the focus the conflict between Morgan and Giselle, not much would change. That’s why Sofie is 6 in The Fairytale of my life, and I’m going to show her dynamics with her 3 family members.
5. I gave Morgan and Sofie a really good sibling dynamic because I had to: This answers the topic above. Disenchanted is one of the prime examples that shows why a sibling age gap between a teenager and an infant does not work. One of the positive traits I wanted to give Morgan was being a good role model for her new sister and it’s going to be shown throughout my fic.
Well, I hope this satisfies your ask. I’m going to be very busy finishing Ch 2 and writing the rest of my rewrite

I accept all kinds of Encanto headcanons and au's but I won't read something that is uncomfortable like games of thrones x Encanto, Madrigalcest and so on but yea I accept all kinds just not the bad ones.
What about you.
"I accept all kinds (of headcanon) just not the bad ones" is such a... I'm sorry but that's a weird way of putting it.
I know what you were trying to say and I 100 % agree with you about the Madrigalcest. Don't know if you can even call that a headcanon but it's definitely something that creeps me out and that I keep far far away from me.
But other than that one, are there really headcanons that are 'bad'? You might not like them or agree with them or understand them, but calling them bad misses the mark I think.
Will I ever read an Encanto/Game of Thrones crossover? Probably not, cause I never got into GOT and therefore could probably never get into such a crossover.
If you tell me you want to write that crossover, will I tell you to go for it and hype you up? Yes, definitely! Because we can't have enough stories and just because I'm not vibing with the idea doesn't mean it's bad and shouldn't be written or that I don't 'accept' them. Lots of different headcanons mean lots of different perspectives and stories and fan interactions and new ideas and I, for one, love that snowball effect about this Fandom! (any Fandom really).
So to answer your question anon, headcanons that are not bad but that I'm just not vibing with would be villain Bruno, Bruno as Mirabel's (and/or Camilo's) father (IF he still leaves! If that means he stays and fights for his kids I can see some appeal) and stories that paint Alma as an unredeemable villain.

Grandkid Roundup!
Let’s talk about Nina’s relationships with her nieces and nephews!
Tumblr media
Oldest to youngest
Isabela
Before movie: As Isa was growing up, Nina didn't have as much interaction with her. A couple times when Isa was really little, she got to pet a baby goat Nina would carry to visit with people. But they didn't really get to know each other, especially as Isabela got older and felt more of the weight of Alma's expectations on her. Nina was often doing dirty work, on the other side of the Encanto from Casita, and they had nothing in common to talk about at gatherings. Isa's feelings about Nina used to be similar to those towards Mirabel, but less aggressive. (since they weren't fueled by sibling rivalry, as they barely knew each other) She just had a somewhat detached secretly envious judgement over Nina's outspoken strangeness. After movie: After Casita falls, Isa is trying to learn how to figure out who she is and how to express herself. And Nina is right there with the family, helping them rebuild. Nina is very much Isa's hype-woman. She, Mira, and Bruno would be most likely to notice when Isa starts seeking outward validation through her art. Still unconsciously holding back because she hasn't yet figured out how to just BE. And the three of them, the weirdo outcasts, would be the most well-suited to pushing her into embracing her full chaotic artistic style. Nina also wingwomans for her when Isa starts to date, being the only experienced woman in the family who is any good at flirting with other women. She and Isa end up becoming very close.
Dolores
Before movie: Similarly got to pet baby goats when she was little. Since Dolores was always more shy and quiet, Nina tended to try to encourage her when she saw her at social gatherings, often using a baby goat to do so, or occasionally singing while Dolores awkwardly played the tiple as she was learning. They weren't exactly close, but would sometimes see each other if Nina was running deliveries or ran into her in town. Dolores knew Nina wasn't the most popular of people in the Encanto, and one of the very few that didn't vilify Bruno, so she did like Nina. But like with a lot of people in the Encanto, Dolores was more aware of Nina's life than Nina was of hers. Tends to happen with super hearing. After movie: Nina and Bruno's courtship becomes more official slightly behind Dolores and Mariano's, though the former couple already know each other QUITE well at that point than the latter did. Nina and Dolores both get to tolerate Camilo making gagging noises whenever they talk about romantic stuff. Nina never asks Dolores what she's heard of her romantic past, though she is admittedly VERY curious how much Dolores knows. She instead talks as she would to anyone who ISN'T all up in everyone's business, and Dolores rather appreciates it. She's often a babysitter for Dolores and Mariano as time goes on, thoroughly enjoying her role as childless auntie. Especially after her joints sort of force her to stop most farm work. (Though she says its about the same amount of work, with a wink) She ends up doing a lot of babysitting of  future children of her nieces and nephews, but she learns to get good at it with Dolores' first. Nina can have some trouble regulating her speaking volume at times though, its something she tries to work on with Dolores around more.
Luisa
Before movie: She saw Luisa around quite a bit after the girl got her Gift, since Luisa was all over the place, helping out. Most especially in the farm areas. They enjoyed getting to talk when they could, but unfortunately Luisa rarely got to stay put long enough to have a full conversation before moving to the next task. Nina always tried to make it her goal to get Luisa to laugh and at least enjoy herself a bit while working. After movie: Honestly, neither of them was very good at learning how to take breaks at the start. Both of them had a tendency to throw themselves into their work, burdened with the responsibilities of Older-Sister Syndrome. So they relate to each other quite well in that regard, and end up trying to remind each other to stop moving and chill for a while.
Camilo
Before movie: Nina often laughed at his antics when she saw him at gatherings, and they very much appreciate each other's sense of humor. Again, she didn't see him all the time, and often when she did, he was busy doing something. But always joking as he did it. Nina respected that, and only wished she'd gotten as positive a response to making jokes at his age. After movie: As they get to know each other better, Camilo is delighted to find out Nina loves doing impressions, and is the one most likely to challenge her with them. The challenge goes both ways though. Since she's quite good at observing people, she's one of the best in the whole Encanto when it comes to recognizing Camilo in the form of someone else. They both have strong Theatre Kid energy, some of the adults don't always appreciate her enabling his gremlin side. Bruno thinks its great.
Mirabel
Before movie: Mirabel is the Madrigal grandkid Nina knew the best before Casita's collapse. Not having family duties to keep her busy, Mirabel has been all over the Encanto, helping other people out when she can. There were of course many who didn't want the one Madrigal without a gift to try doing heavier work. Nina was not such a person. She was more than happy to go "Oh, perfect, grab that thing over there." They bonded over being black sheep in the family, and Nina always did her best to encourage young Mirabel to be true to herself, no matter what. After movie: Nina worked alongside Mirabel and Bruno a lot when rebuilding Casita, Mirabel trusting that Bruno would be comfortable enough with Nina when she herself needed to go help with something else. Even as early as that, Mirabel immediate shipped the two of them, seeing how close they were. (She had no idea how close they'd already BEEN) She was the most vocal supporter of their relationship and sometimes pushed a bit much to try to get the two of them going faster. Mirabel made sure that fireflies were always included when embroidering clothes for Nina, or painting Nina's plate when she joined the family. Much later on, the first time Mirabel ever has to be in charge of an Encanto-wide event, Nina is in the audience, embodying the "Hiccup giving double thumbs up" meme. Most members of the family are very protective of Mirabel when she starts getting involved in romance. Nina and Felix are pretty much the only two in their generation who aren't as likely to threaten someone with the "shovel talk". They don't need to. As encouraging as they are of the romance, somehow prospective partners of the Madrigal grandkids still find the two intimidating in a very different way.
Antonio
Before movie: Since Antonio ALWAYS had an obvious affinity for animals, Nina would sometimes playfully joke about him being a kid after her own heart, and about stealing him away. "They've got a lot of kids in that house already, anyway." She loved whenever Mirabel would bring a toddler-sized Antonio around the farm to spend time with Nina and the goats. After movie: Antonio would often up and tell Nina whatever the goats were saying, unprompted. Including times when they were complaining that her choice in songs had gotten stale and she needed to learn something new. She'd "hurumph", but still take it into account. Nina (not so) secretly thinks Antonio's Gift is by far the coolest, and wishes she could understand animals the same way. Instead she's had to learn to understand them via body language and experience. Something Antonio would later (when he was a little older) point out takes considerable effort and skill, along with a willingness to learn. And that he will always admire both her and Bruno for having been able to do that. Nina loves meeting pretty much any of Antonio's animal friends. Bruno is a bit distressed at how comfortable Nina is with treating Parce like a housecat.

what will happen if camilo finds the reader in his ruana? how will he react? requested by @callmelin-07
masterlist !!
Tumblr media
You were just curious that’s all. The two of you had been together for a while now and not once did you see Camilo without his beloved ruana.
You often thought he didn’t wash it and just wore the same one every single day. Though surprisingly he never smelled.
You’ve worn ruanas before but never have you worn Camilo’s.
And that got you thinking. If Camilo wear ruana everyday. Ruana must be comfy. If ruana comfy, ruana good. If ruana good, you’re missing out.
You wanted to experience that ruana. Out of all things. Sure one can argue it was just a ruana but it was your boyfriend’s ruana. It’s one of a kind, it was special.
You didn’t think you had the chance to try it on. Until one particularly hot day in Encanto. Try as the two of you may to get rid of the heat, you two practically felt like melting under the sun.
“Can your mamá make it snow or rain, ‘Milo? The heat.. it’s killing me..”
“You and me both..” He had rolled over, groaning in frustration as he had kicked the covers of his bed aside. Even the blankets were hot!
“I’m gonna go see if Tia Julieta has any ice or something refreshing to eat.” He stood up before he looked down at his ruana and sighed. “Even this is too hot.” He shrugged off his ruana, left only in his white button up long sleeves.
He threw it on the bed before leaving.
Target in sight. 🎯
You immediately took it in your hands, eyes wide as if you had the universe’s secrets in your hand. The ruana was soft and vibrant in color, it didn’t look like he had been wearing it for years like your own theories suggested. It had chameleons all over it as well as dark yellow stripes.
You were in awe.
And a smile appeared on your features.
It’s free real estate.
Was this what it felt to be blessed like the gods? Possibly.
You looked around, glancing at the door for a moment before you slowly put it on, looking at the many mirrors of your lover’s room.
Hey you looked pretty in it. Dare you say, yellow was your color.
Humming to yourself before you raised your arms up. “Seven foot frame..” You lurched over as if there were tiny animals running down your back. “Rats along his back, when he calls your name it all fades to black..” You sang your boyfriend’s lines.
You often heard him practicing these so that he could scare the little children as a prank of sorts.
“Jose..!” You exclaim, doing that little twirl he had whenever Camilo had shifted into someone.
“Really, mi vida?” Came your shapeshifter boyfriend’s snicker as you turn to him, and icy treat called cholao in one hand two slices of tres leches on the other.
He really didn’t expect to return to his significant other basically just copying him. And in his ruana too.
Though now that he looked at you closely in his ruana, the man was down bad
He was all red. The gears in his mind turning.
You + His clothes = adorable.
Camilo couldn’t lie. It did look really good on you. The ruana was a bit too big but that added more to your cuteness. He couldn’t help the smile on his features as he gushed about how adorable you were.
He let out a low whistle, back against the wall and a hand on his chest as if he was struck by cupid the moment he laid eyes on you in his clothing. “Ay mamacita, look at you.”
Man is hyped up. Oh lord you were gorjus. Gorrrrjus.
“Ay bonita, my beautiful, beautiful (Name), no matter what you do, even if it’s just taking a breath of air, I find myself falling for you more and more.”
If this man could have heart eyes, he would've had it already.
Utter simp.
He throws his closet doors open and grabs half of his closet.. which was all the same yellow ruana.
Which you had blinked at. This man had like fifty of the same ruana.
“It suits you. Here, take half. That way when we go out we can match.” He says as he dumps the clothes in your arms.
“I should get you a pair of my own pants, or my slippers too..”
He’s already had plans of coordinating both of your outfits.
“Yeah you aren’t allowed anywhere now without at least one of my clothes on you. That way you can look cute while people know you're already mine, mi vida.” He winks.
He'd insist you wear it for the duration of your stay there.
He'd pull you in his lap and kiss you all over, all the while murmuring and humming softly at how good you had looked.
As soon as you get home though he's throwing himself on his bed, squealing about how cute you looked.
"Oh dios, thank you for blessing me with them."
He tries to shift into you, of course with his clothes rather than your own.
One look in the mirror and he was jumping in glee, punching the air.
He quickly shifted back to himself, screeching as he couldn't take it anymore. He had you. All to himself.
Man, you gave him a chance.
Him! Of all people!
"Camilo, cállate la boca! Some of us are trying to sleep!" Comes Dolores' muffled and tired voice from the other room.
"Ay, Dolores, let me have this!" Camilo would whine.
Cue him hugging the ruana you had worn.
You had him giggling and kicking his legs and everything all night.

Hi! Could I request hcs abt what it's like to be Camilo's best friend? Either gn or m reader would be cool! Thank you in advance!
ʙᴇɪɴɢ ᴄᴀᴍɪʟᴏ'ꜱ ʙᴇꜱᴛ ꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ
Pairing(s): Camilo Madrigal x Male!reader
Warnings: Mentions of anxiety and identity crisis
A/N: okay so as easy as headcanons are, they're not my first nature so this took some work. Hope you like it <3
masterlist
Tumblr media
have you seen that trickster duet that's on most movies or books that's simply iconic, like the Weasley twins in Harry Potter or the Stoll brothers of Percy Jackson
that's what I think it would be like if Camilo had a best friend
and none of that complementary bullshit, having someone more down to earth while he wrecks havoc
no, he needs someone who can keep up the pace, someone who's as chaotic as him
growing up in Encanto, you probably have known each other since forever
the moment that you bonded over was pretty simple: when you hid him from the recipient of one of his pranks
you two asked for a sleepover that same night and since then, you were inseparable
and while you're not a complementary duet, you do have complementary wits
Camilo plans the pranks, all the logistics that implied getting them done was sorted out by him
you are in charge of the run away plan, the alibi
he pulled some true works of art, but you were the reason you never got caught
I mean, everyone did kind of know it was you two behind the pranks, but they didn't have any actual proof to blame you with
the things is, you two didn't have as much time for pranks as you wished, because Camilo was a Madrigal and that meant he had a bunch of other chores on top of school
and the longer those chores went, a more hyperactive Camilo you had to deal with in the afternoons
"did you drink coffee on the way here?"
"I am coffee."
you two were always together, he was practically another family member in your house and so were you in his
there wasn't a day you didn't eat one of the three meals at his house and another at yours
but below the pranks and the trickster duo, there were the days Camilo didn't like to talk about
the days he wasn't himself, because he didn't who he was
it seemed just logical to you, that a person with the ability to become others suffered from identity crisis every once in a while
even worse when his mother had a very bad and very easily inherited anxiety
Camilo seemed tired in those days, he barely had energy to do simple things like eating
you had to help him with those things, shadowing him behind the day and figure out solutions for the things everyone needed of him that imply him having to shift
and at the end of the day, you took him up to the roof of casa Madrigal, and started to go through memories of the past
the insanely big splinters he somehow got into his feet all the time
the way his voice sounded when he was little
the impossible pranks you had dreamed of pulling of one day when you were about five
just every story that you could think were Camilo was more than his gift
and don't worry, your friendship isn't one sided
you have your hard days, your days were everything is impossible to get done
and he takes care of you just like you do for him
he makes sure you eat, doesn't allow anyone to mess with you and hypes you up
"who's the man? you're the man! who's the man? you're the man!"
see, many might think your just strategical tricksters
but you're best friends, even if no one else can understand your bond

Valentine's Special!
Random drabbles with Carlos and Camilo! Enjoy!
"And that's it for now! Everyone please enjoy the rest of your day." The bell rang throughout the school. Students flooded the hallway, forming into groups and mingling with their friends.
You adjusted your uniform and threw your schoolbag over your shoulder. The door creaked as you pushed it open. You huffed at the heavy weight, why were the doors so damn big?
"Y/N!" A pair of soft arms wrapped around your torso. Maria ran to your side and held a bouquet of flowers in her arms, face flushed red. Your eyebrows raised. Oh?
"You'll never believe who gave me this!" She squealed, clasping her hand in yours. You faked a confused face, tapping the side of your cheek as you pondered.
"Oh I wonder who it could be- Who else? It's Joaquin isn't it?" You teased, bumping your hip against hers. Joaquin was that cute guy down the road, he was nice but his little brother had a weird obsession with coffee.
"Yes, it's him." Maria rolled her eyes when you cheered, throwing your arms around her shoulder. You were about to open your mouth and start teasing her but she suddenly dug her foot into the ground and halted to a stop. Maria's jaw went slack and she turned to you, a playful smile dancing on her lips.
"Your novio is here!" She teased, placing emphasis in the word 'novio'. You turned your gaze to see-
•❣️•
...Camilo rushing towards you, bumping into a few students in the process. His hair was dishevelled, curls flying around in every direction. In his hands, he held a large bouquet of sunflowers and a chameleon plushy.
"Have fun!" Maria giggled and scampered away, leaving you alone as you made your way towards Camilo. He finally reached you and skidded to a stop, breathing heavily as sweat dribbled down his chin.
"....H-Happy Valentines!" He stammered, awkwardly fidgeting around. You opened your mouth to greet him but he shoved the bouquet of flowers into your face.
"D-Do you like it?" He questioned, a mix of nervousness and giddiness in his eyes. Your hands gently pet the stuffed chameleon, heart swelling over how sweet the gesture was.
Oh fuck, here come the waterworks. Your eyes burned as tears started to form. Camilo's face immediately dropped and he started to panic. He reached forward and clasped your arms, hands shaky as he started apologizing.
"I-I'm sorry- is it too much? Maybe you don't like chameleons or sunflowers- Mierda. I'm an idiot, I should've asked you first-" You immediately waved your hands around, cutting off his rambling.
"No! No! I love it! It's just - this is so sweet." You spoke, voice wavering as you started sobbing.
Camilo relaxed, internally hyping himself up. He smiled softly and raised his hands up to caress your face; quickly wiping your tears away.
"Anything for you, mi vida." Camilo whispered, leaning forward and pressing a warm kiss on your lips. You hummed and pulled on his collar, drawing him closer.
"I love you." You pulled away, bashfully smiling as you clutched the chameleon plushy.
"I love you too, mi vida."
•❣️•
...Carlos walking towards you, face red as he held a bouquet or roses in his hands. You smiled warmly and quickly ushered Maria away, rolling your eyes at her teasing.
"Enjoy yourself!" She giggled and lightly pushed you forward before walking away.
Carlos quickened his steps as he got closer and closer to you. The teen awkwardly smiled once he was in front of you. His hands were shaky, eyes darting everywhere but you- was he- no way. Was Carlos Madrigal nervous?
You raised your brows in surprise, bringing a hand up to your chest. In all your months of dating him, you've never seen Carlos like this. Sure, he did get flustered here and there but never...this.
"Happy Valentine's Day- I.." Carlos sucked in a breath, suddenly tensing up. "...I love you." He muttered, cracking a hesitant smile as he pushed the flowers into your hands.
He quietly observed your face with baited breath, watching quiety as you took the roses from his hands.
Did you even like roses? Fuck. He should have brought more gifts- He's pretty sure Camilo brought his lover a whole stack. It's fine, he has his wallet with him- he could probably bring you along on a shopping spree.
He was cut out of his thoughts when you suddenly ran into his arms, wrapping your arms around his torso-making sure not to damage the roses. Your tears soaked into his ruana and Carlos started to get worried.
"I-I love you so much. Thank you." You muttured into his ruana, refusing to let go. Carlos's heart warmed and he chuckled, placing this arms around you. He pressed a soft kiss atop your head, fingers threading through your hair.
"Anything for you." He whispered, tightening his grip on your body.
"Only for you."
❣️ extra drabble:
A loud whistle rang throughout the empty house as two teens made their way to the kitchen. You and Carlos had just returned from a date and he wanted both of you to just relax for a bit.
Throwing his arms in front of him, Carlos lay his head down on the counter, mindlessly tapping his fingernails on the wood.
"You coming, muñeca?" The boy lifted his head to turn to you, raising a hand to call you over.
"Mhm, I am." You waddled over, hands reaching out to leave feather light touches on Carlos's back. Still, there was a moment of hesitation.
'No, he's not too big on affection.' Your fingers twitched slightly as you resisted the urge to pull him into a hug. Another sigh, you tucked your hands away, plopping down on the chair next to him.
Two dark eyes observed your slumped form, an amused smirk forming on his lips. Carlos knew you, he knew your habits and he definitely knew what that look on your face meant.
"Ah, that chair you're sitting on is no good." He spoke and reached his hand out to grip your bicep. Carlos tugged you forward, pulling you into his lap while his chin rested on your shoulder. A dumbass excuse to pull you into a hug but it works. He'd never admit it but he loved physical affection just as much-if not more, than you.
"Comfy?"
"I-I-Uhm." You stuttered; A red flush bloomed on your face when he pressed a kiss on your cheek. Your boyfriend pulled you closer, his arms encircling around your torso.
"If you wanted to hold me, you should have said so."
•❣️•
The sun shone brightly in the village square, leaving you feeling a bit flushed. Reaching into your bag, you took out a fan to alleviate your little heat problem.
'At least Pepa is happy.' A passing thought.
Your boyfriend didn't seem to mind the heat and eagerly ran into the fields. A smile spread on your lips as you trailed after Camilo's form. You felt warm and fuzzy as you quietly observed him playing around with the village kids.
"What's this? You wanna hug?" A slight twinge of jealousy suddenly sparked in you as Camilo pulled a kid into his arms, playfully swinging the toddler around.
God, if it were only that easy. You wish you could just walk up to Camilo and ask for his affection like that.
A frustrated squeal left your lips and you hid your face in your hands. Why was it so hard to ask for affection?
"Psst! Camilo!" Cecilia whispered, her small hands tugging on Camilo's wrinkled slacks. The shapeshifter raised a brow, leaning down to her level. "Yes?"
"Y/N looks sad!" A frown formed on her face as she pointed to your form. Camilo's gaze immediately hardened and he turned his head to your direction. A pout replaced your bright smile, shoulders slumped as you leaned against the pillar.
"What's wrong, mi vida?" Camilo rushed over, spreading his arms wide as he pulled you into a warm hug. You jumped and yelped, whipping your body around to face him.
"Ah-I just- I just wanted a hug." You whispered, feeling a tad bit embarrassed. Camilo just grinned and leaned against you.
"Well, you'll gladly get all the hugs you want!"

Read your fanfiction (amazing) and saw your other asks and I'm wondering, could you give us some of your encanto headcanons?
Thank you so much, anon!
Here are some of my headcanons, a couple of which you might recognize:
Alma
-decided that no one should ever say Bruno's name again when the long search party had proven futile after he had disappeared.
-claimed she wanted to distance herself from her son but often broke down crying in her room that looks like the one in her previous village.
-still, she had an image of her missing son hidden underneath her pillow and kissed him goodnight every time before she fell asleep.
-has a love-hate relationship with garlic bread because one time when she made it with her children, a very wholesome experience overall, one of Pepa's winds spread the garlic everywhere. Casita reeked of it for weeks after.
Julieta
-preemptively wraps her feet in bandages to protect them from blisters long days of standing in the kitchen can bring.
-very strong arms. She and Pepa loved arm-wrestling each other to find out who was stronger. Once, it even evolved into a town-wide experience where they put up a stand and invited the villagers to hype them up.
Pepa
-likes to pressure herself into creating bright, sunny mornings for her family to wake up to.
-her day is ruined, however, when she doesn't get her coffee fix on time.
-used to lightning-zap her brother's bullies for fun.
Bruno
-quite religious because the belief in a higher power gives him security. How could everything be his fault when a God exists, right?
-a perfectionist deep-down.
-used to read the best stories to his niblings.
-not a lightweight when drinking but also not immune by a long shot.
Mirabel
-has always let Antonio sleep in her bed when he was scared.
-got her hand stuck in a fence once.
-glad her glasses protect her eyes from almost everything that comes their way.
Luisa
-prefers to tie up her hair because she is insecure about it although it doesn't look very different from the rest of her family.
-often craved a hug from her sisters but never asked.
-has considered yelling at the Donkey Guy.
-feels too big, sometimes, especially when she's next to Bruno.
Isabela
-was very adventurous when she was younger until it was bred out of her.
-destroyed a lot of furniture when she didn't have full control over her plants. Alma just laughed and didn't make a big deal out of it, until Mirabel's Gift Ceremony.
-Félix taught her basic self-defense just because she was interested.
Dolores
-didn't want to have her ears pierced but then agreed because Isabela was flaunting her earrings around.
-she and Isabela used to be partners in crime and got Bruno into all sorts of trouble (he gladly bore the consequences just to make his sobrinas happy).
-there were times she thought she was crazy for thinking her missing uncle was still living inside their home and left the family hints of his existence to cope. "The rats talking in the walls..."
Camilo
-shifts into different people to give them fashion advice
-has babysat almost all children in town and has an ongoing rivalry with Mirabel about it.
-likes to annoy Isabela the most which Mirabel supports (or used to).
-was scared shitless by a story made up by Bruno and connected both ever since.
Antonio
-has a bug collection he tried to hide from Mirabel, afraid she would be disappointed in him.
-kind of a loner except when he's on the dancefloor.
Félix
-can almost do anything he puts his mind to.
-makes little figurines out of wood. He occasionally gives them to the children in town.
-he and Agustín like to go out and get ice cream.
Agustín
-the other side of his family are tailors who had to move out of Bogotá for economic reasons.
-taught Mirabel how to do embroidery.
-no matter what happens to his body during one of his accidents, he tries anything to protect the flower on his vest that Isabela gave him when she was little, although she could always make him a new one.

here's more encanto stuff cuz u guys ate it up
- Abuela slander is stupid as hell. you could say she was abusive in some ways, but she clearly wants to change for her kids and grandkids. she LEARNED. i don't really think they should have forgiven her that quickly either but it was better for them to find closure. it should have been more about "i understand why you did this, and i know you only thought you were doing was best for everyone. i appreciate what you have done for us and i love you despite your shortcomings, but you have to earn complete forgiveness." that being said stop hating on Abuela. it got old very fast
- Camilo is a fantastic character with so much potential and who deserved more screen time. with that being said, Dolores deserves the same if not more hype
- i like to think that after the events of the film, Mirabel (plus maybe Julieta? some of the other kids?) got together to either fix or replace Bruno's ruana since it's pretty old and probably gross. it would be green ofc, but it would probably be more vibrant and have all sorts of fun little designs. maybe an hourglass or sand, a few mice, golden butterflies, caterpillars, flowers, etc. kinda like Mirabel's skirt but much more subtle and unique to Bruno's personality & liking
- call me a fatherless child but i feel like because bruno doesn't want any child to grow up the way he did (ostracized, antagonized, having to suppress themselves for others) he would sort of serve a replacement father figure or just generally a safe, supportive adult for the kids of the encanto so they would always have someone to come to. he'd be pretty nervous and on edge around infants but when it comes to children (5 and older or something like that) he knows exactly what to do. also he'd be a fantastic babysitter
- Isabela paints to express herself, either with just regular paints or she uses the stuff from her plants she can make
- Bruno has nicknames for all of his nieces and nephews. like he might call Camilo "engañador" and Luisa "hércules" or "pequeña dama" ironically (also if the Spanish is incorrect pls tell me i know very very little spanish as i am a native English speaker)
- Bruno is also very good with animals :) of course he has his little rats but i feel like he would have a very strong compassion for animals of all kinds, especially those that are injured, stray/abandoned pets, and lost baby animals
- this is sort of sad and of course you can disagree but i feel like Bruno likes acting because he felt like no one likes who he ACTUALLY was since he got his gift, so to cope he learned how to be like and copy other people and entertain, because that was the only time when people DID like him and accept him (does that make sense?)
- i feel like Camilo would like theatre for similar reasons. he never felt like anybody wanted him just as he was when he was himself, so he learned not only that he loved acting, but it was also something his gift was good for. he probably felt really useless as a kid, cause think about it: shapeshifting into only people doesn't have a lot of practical useless, so he found a way to be useful without having to be himself. hope that makes sense
- i feel like Bruno would connect the most with Camilo, Luisa, Isabela, and Dolores. Of course Mirabel as well, but that goes without saying.
i hope this was good !! i tried to keep these as respectful as i could. keep in mind i am not Latino, so if i said anything inaccurate about the culture or anything, please inform me. im still learning about Latin American cultures and im trying as best i can to keep my little white nose out of places where it does not belong. that being said, i have no ill intent and i hope this made someone happy :)

tickle hcs for Camilo and Luisa pls
You got it anon!! :D
Requests are still open!

༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Camilo
• it was only a matter of time before I did hcs on this little maniac
• tklish? Him??? Never-…👀
• there is no way in Hell’s Kitchen he’s gonna admit to being tklish- NO shot-
• however-
• he is - arguably - the most ticklish Madrigal
• similar to Mirabel, he’s not a super huge fan of being tkled in front of a lot of people because it’s embarrassing for him, and he’s sorta self conscious of his laugh :(
• his laugh doesn’t really match him, that’s certainly true, but it’s lovely nonetheless!!
• very sporadic and varies in pitch - is also prone to hiccups
• kinda like “ehahEHEAHAhah-hic-EHeHA!!”
• worst spots without a doubt: back, ribs, knees, collarbone
• Most of the Madrigals know he’s pretty tklish, but the repeat offenders are Mirabel, Bruno, and -hear me out here- Mariano
• NOW LET ME EXPLAIN LET ME S P E A K
• I mean, the guy is marrying his sister, so of course they’ve gotta interact somehow-
• I love to think that Camilo and Mariano get along well, but Camilo always has an edge to him like “yo this guy is gonna be marrying my sister- lemme make sure he passes the vibe check-“
• Mariano probably senses this and tickles the mess out of him acting all offended that he would dare to even CONSIDER that he’d harm Dolores
• “You wound me, Camilo- I can’t believe you’d ever *poke* even *poke* THINK *squeeze* that I would hurt your sister! Unbelievable!”
• now ler Camilo? 🧍🧍🧍 that’s a different story-
• “My primo Camilo won’t stop until he makes you smile today” … and I live by that.
• SUPER teasy all the time-
• is a huge fan of sneaking up on people, poking them, then shifting into someone else and blending in with the crowd/ literally his favorite game 🤚
• will poke fun at the lee’s laughter/movements, no doubt in my mind
• A HIGE FAN OF CHEER-UP TKLES!!!
• if he so much as SMELLS one of his siblings or cousins in a bad mood, he’s already on his way
• for cheer up tkles, he’s very patient and sweet and polite about it. He waits until he knows for sure the person is okay being touched, and stops as soon as he’s told
•tickle hugs 🧎‍♂️
•he WILL run up behind Luisa and give her the biggest bear hug his scrawny little arms can deliver, and then out of nowhere just start scribbling on her stomach which has her on the ground in no time -
- - -
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Tumblr media
༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺ ༻✧༺ ༻✦༺
Luisa
• I personally like to believe that she didn’t even really know she was tklish until after the events of the movie, bc she never really let herself experience things like that, y’know?
•that being said, she is EXTREMELY tklish- like one of the most tklish Madrigals-
• and she doesn’t mind it at all! She actually thinks it’s fun!!
• the main Madrigals who like to jump her are Isa, Mira, and Camilo, and most often, it’s Mirabel!
• she is fully aware of how large and strong she is, so she tries to keep as still as possible as to not hurt the ler(s)
• THEY FIND IT ADORABLE-
“Awww Luisa you’re not even resisting!! Are you enjoying yourself??”
• oh she can’t stand teasing- not at all- she goes red in the face and covers her face up
• she usually can feel herself about to flush red and covers her face preemptively, but her ears go pink too, which gives her away-
• HER LAUGH-
• she has a very low voice, and a very high laugh/ ironic isn’t it-
• well her belly laugh is pretty low, but her giggles and surprised laughter is high snd breathy, and very squeaky!!
• her laugh goes silent if you hit a death spot like her hips or her neck - other spots include her knees, her back, and her stomach!!
• Ler Luisa <3
• SO gentle and SO patient???
• she again, doesn’t want to accidentally hurt anyone, so her tkles are featherlight- unless she’s directed otherwise-
• very reassuring- she will absolutely hype you up while she’s destroying you
“You’re holding up so well!!”
• she will absolutely do the ruin counting game
• OH OH HERES ONE OF MY FAVORITE HCS
• so I like to think Camilo says he’s getting super strong by like,, working out and exercising and whatever 15 year old boys say when they want to be buff a but ofc he’s a skinny little twig-
I like to think Luisa does like, check ups to “see if he’s gained any muscle”
Like she’ll squeeze and poke at his arms and his torso like “oh! You’ve got a little more muscle here than before l! Good job kid!!” AND HIS STOMACH?? CHECKING FOR NONEXISTENT ABS??
I know that drives him insane-
• my last point for ler Luisa is that she gives big hugs after the fact- such a big gentle teddy bear

SORRY THAT TOOK SO LONG my draft deleted itself and i had to start all over again TIFKENFNSCJ
AAANYWAY ENJOY!!

If you are comfortable writing for Camilo, I have a request
“I can’t stop thinking about you. No matter how hard I try, you’re always on my mind”
sure, love!
Off My Mind
A/N: Just a reminder that Camilo is 15 yrs old and we do not sexualize minors<3 Both camilo and reader are the same age
Requested by: anonymous
Pairing: Camilo Madrigal x reader
Prompt: “I can’t stop thinking about you. No matter how hard I try, you’re always on my mind”
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Camilo just wouldn't stop staring at you. Everyone saw it. Mirabel, Pepa, Antonio, Luisa, and mostly Dolores. She knew how badly her younger brother had fallen for you. You were the younger sibling of Mariano Guzman, and even before Mariano's relationship with Isabela began, Camilo's eyes never failed to find you.
You helped out in the market often, whether it be restocking or helping run the stalls. You never failed to miss a day. And that was something that Camilo depended on. A part of his routine as he came into town with his family.
He would glance over to the vendors and hope to find you quickly amongst the many stalls before he got pulled away to his chores. Sometimes his mind wouldn't wander off from you either.
Whether it be helping some parents get some rest, or becoming taller to reach something, there had been too many close calls when his mind wandered off from you.
The two of you were friends, or maybe acquaintances was a more appropriate word for it. You shared several conversations and you would send him a smile or a wave that would linger in his mind.
At breakfast, he would be eager to get into town. To get to work, of course, that was what he would say. But his parents would give him an odd look to see their eldest son so eager to get into town.
At Dinner, he would think about your smile, your voice if you greeted him that day. In his eyes, it was the highlight of his day.
Dolores on the other hand knew better. As usual.
She would hear her brother talking to himself in his room, trying to build up the confidence to finally ask you out on a date. But every time he tried to, he floundered.
He backed up or short-circuited at your smile. Camilo turned flustered and would lose his train of thought. Each day was the same. He would hype himself up, go into town, and fail.
But this morning as they walked into town, Dolores popped up next to Camilo, "Are you going to ask her out today?" she asked as Camilo jumped, giving his sister a look.
"What?" he asked raising an eyebrow, "Ask who, what?" Of course, he knew exactly what she was talking about, but he wasn't going to admit that.
Dolores gave him a dumb look, "Y/N Guzman. I hear you talking about them all the time. I also hear you trying to ask her on a date. You should ask soon though, there are few others who want to ask her as well," she warned her brother before walking ahead of him.
Camilo thought about Dolores' warning. Of course, there were others who wanted to be your partner! You were perfect in every way and came from the perfect family.
He had to ask you. Today.
And as he neared the vendors he spotted you...talking to someone? Whoever it was, they were flirting with you and he hated it, and you looked just as uncomfortable.
Quickly he made it over towards you, clearing his throat. You turned to him with a smile, and relief coming over your features, "Camilo! Just the person I was hoping to see. Excuse me, Andres, I have to deal with this. But I uh, will give you an answer tomorrow," you said as the guy, a year or two older than yourself left.
Letting out a huff, you looked to Camilo as he gave you a look, "Who was that?" he asked casually, trying to play off his nosey-ness.
"Andres. He has been asking me out on a date, and I've been pushing off giving him an answer. It's not like I'm even interested in him, I just...like someone else.." you said glancing down before looking up to Camilo, "So thanks again for coming over. Can I help you with anything?" you asked, giving him that dazzling smile he just adored.
Camilo could feel both admiration and jealousy boil within him. Do you like someone else? Well maybe now was better than never to confess. He glanced around and saw both Mirabel and Dolores giving him a thumbs up. Of course, Dolores told...
He took a breath and looked at you, getting butterflied in his stomach. "I like you!" he blurted out, "I can’t stop thinking about you. No matter how hard I try, you’re always on my mind” he rambled nervously as his mind just ran with everything he wanted to say to you.
"And I wanted to see if you'd like to go on a date. With me. Tomorrow?" He finished, cheeks flushed and looking to you nervously.
Your grin widened the more he spoke, and flush creeping onto your face. His nervous rambles were adorable. Camilo always seemed so confident and playful. To see him like this was...sweet. How could you say no to a question, and to someone you've been crushing on for almost years now?
"I would love to go on a date with you tomorrow. You have no idea how long I've wanted to hear you say that," you say a bit sheepishly.
And that was all the confidence that Camilo needed as he gave you a charming smirk, "Oh yeah? Well just wait and see what I have planned. I meet you at the fountain, tomorrow!" he said giving you a wink before walking back towards his family, where Dolores and Mirabel shared a high five.

Encanto Headcanons
I got some stuff/ideas I gotta dump out
* I like how some people say how close Mirabel and Camilo are but I like that they aren't all that close. They use to be close when they were kids but after Camilo got his powers, his parents wanted him to control them and spend more time on that than Mirabel. Later on, they grew more distant.
* They now have more of an "who can be more louder or funnier than the other contest" kind of relationship. Camilo usually being the one to either make fun of Mirabel or make up fun with her. It really depends on Camilo's mood, he either wakes up and chooses violent or wakes up and chooses comedian.
* Despite his father never telling him to never be ashamed of being sad or scared or overwhelm (just discouraging toxic masculinity in general), Camilo usually gets embarrassed or even ashamed whenever he feels like crying.
* He prefers to distracts himself than deal with these emotions. So they are kept a secret from other family member.
* Pepa and Bruno both love telenovelas, tell me otherwise.
* Once Bruno stopped living inside the walls, post-movie, he got the nickname of " The Most Huggable Uncle". All the grandkids liked messing around with him and hug him any minute of the day. Mostly Antonio and Mirabel. Julieta and Pepa would hug him as well.
* Whenever Mirabel, Bruno and Antonio were together, Julieta and Pepa joked around saying how "the babies were together", since they are all the youngest in their families. They all get embarrassed.
* Isabella and Dolores tried to rekindled their relationship post-movie. It strained once they both turned 10-12 yrs old. They both enjoy art and gossiping.
* All of the Madrigals are competitive, even Abuela a few times.
Least to most competitive list: Bruno, Antonio, Agustin, Dolores, Abuela Alma, Luisa, Julieta, Mirabel, Camilo and Felix and Pepa (those three are tied), Isabela.
* Antonio, Bruno and Agustin are in the lines of somewhat competitive and I rather just have fun. Isabela is just the most
* Definitely a sore winner.
* Camilo, Felix and Pepa are in the same ranks cause they act the same whenever they are competitive. Trash-talking, bringing themselves up, hyped up and confident. Never pair these three up, or they out rank Isabela.
* Isabela is just now the most chaotic Madrigal, being as chaotic as Camilo and Mirabel. She doesn't care, she's free and happy.
* She loves cooler colors. All of Isabela's life, it's just been pink, red and white. She's bored of it. To the point wear all of her wardrobe and room was just full of blues, yellows, greens and many more crazier plants.

Encanto Review
Okay, so if you’ve been on my blog, you’ve seen me talk a bit about it Encanto. And let me just say: I love that moving so freaking much. From the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” to the little moment at family breakfast when Felix gave Antonio a thumbs up for having his animals warm Abuela’s seaT BYE THAT WAS SO CUTE EIRJDSISBZ-
Things I loved:
I loved seeing each of them express who they were within a matter of worded
There’s a lot I like about this movie. One of them beating how amazing the characters are developed.
For example, Pepa’s little, “oh great, now I’m thundering!” That was so great😭 and it shows that side of flustered she gets
I appreciate the little things about this movie like Felix’s thumbs up. That was cute, and shows a bond between them.
Loved Dolores’s little squeak habit throughout the movie (I’m glad it never got annoying lol)
When Camilo turned into a baby- laughed so hard in the theaters 💀 my three year old brother couldn’t get enough of it either.
I love Luisa’s constant need to be perfect, alike from Isabel’s (I’ll talk about her) you see this big bold lady who’s basically a giant teddy bear and I love that.
I loved how Augustine tried to relate to Mirabel- father goals
Speaking of him- loved (and also hated) that he was the one that spoke up for Mirabel when Alma was trying to find her and all of that after the family dinner. I just didn’t like that he was the ONLY one, and the rest of the family just stood by and kept quiet. He’s an amazing father.
I loved LOVED LOVED Mirabel and Antonio’s little moment at the beginning of the movie- again, it shows a bond between them. I just wished they interacted more throughout the film, but whatever. I got enough.
Julieta is also a good mom, and I don’t blame her for not fully being on Mirabels side when Mirabel claimed to see cracks in the house, which she did. Julieta seems like someone who doesn’t like conflict, so she was trying to consider all sides of the story, offering the fact that maybe Mirabel was stirred up from that night- Antonio’s night.
Bruno baby I want you
He’s my little actor man
I love him so so much
I would watch rat telenovelas with him for hours
But for real though, love him as a character, and I feel bad about the way he was treated by Alma.
Freaking loved the tucan, he’s hilarious. Why arent they marketing him as the sidekick but the capybara? ;-;
I could go on for days about how much I love Encanto. But…
Things I didn’t love:
I probably need to rewatch it all the way through first to confirm, but did Alma ever Apologize? For like, everything??
Speaking of her, why was she forgiven so easily? I guess I wish there was more words traded between her and bruno.
I wish I got to saw each family member interact with each other, like in Raya and The Last Dragon. We saw each character interact with one another in some way. And while yes, because Encanto’s cast is bigger, they can’t do all of that in a movie I guess. Which leads me to believe that this should be a series. I wanna see family bonding.
I wish they didn’t market this film as an adventure film, because I came in super hyped, expectations high- and I wasn’t disappointed…just underwhelmed?
On that note, I wish the stakes were higher. Like, so what if they lose their magic? Oh no they go back to being regular citizens? I mean yes, losing their house was the risk, maybe I’m being petty. But definitely would’ve wanted higher stakes. Because I didn’t really care about weather they lost their powers or not. Sure, they were cool, but so what? You know?
Camilo. Deserved. More. Screen time.
There’s not much I dislike about this movie. It was fun, and colorful, and a great time. Definitely recommend, let me know what you guys think.

“It’s about giving voice to things I wanted to say when I was 16,” says Ed Maverick. “I wanted to express something. Most artists like talking about the moon and the stars and other metaphors, and I wanted to get away from that. I wanted to sing like the way I talk, that’s why I cuss sometimes. I think it’s more sincere that way, like I’m talking to you face to face. I don’t get too caught up in how I want it to sound, I like how it comes out. And it’s gone great.”
To say that it has gone great for Eduardo Hernández Saucedo might be a bit of an understatement. Every note that has come out of his throat and guitar has thousands of people listening and relating to all of the emotions he expresses with them. Since sharing his music in 2018, his videos have accumulated millions of views while his live shows are regularly sold out within minutes. He’s signed to Universal Music and making inroads to the mainstream, as well as embarking on his first tour outside of Mexico, a U.S. trek that includes a set at this year’s Tropicalia festival. Have we mentioned he’s currently 18 years old?
Naturally, many have tried to explain the sudden rise of a teenage singer from Delicias, Chihuahua into the hearts of so many young people. Speaking to Remezcla, Maverick might have given us the answer of his appeal to many a fan. There’s no bullshit to his music, it’s unapologetically romantic without succumbing to lyrical clichés. It has warts and nights spent looking at the ceiling, either drunk with love or unable to sleep thinking about what went wrong. Usually, Maverick is backed with little more than an acoustic guitar, playing a style that spans indie folk and corridos, something familiar to Mexican fans that can correlate their playlist with the music from their family’s functions.
Every artist has a beginning and Ed’s was inspired by another singer from Northern Mexico. “It all started when I heard Juan Cirerol. I didn’t know about Mexican music other than the mainstream stuff until I heard Caloncho and from there I started to dig more on YouTube. From Juan, I learned about Dromedarios Mágicos and that took me to Little Jesus and that to Camilo VII. That blew my mind when I was 16. This was something completely different and I loved it. I loved Juan’s behavior, El Drome’s… like Drome once said in an interview that a venue cut his set short, so he got on top of a table and started playing without mics or amps, not caring about anything. That’s awesome. That’s the seed of my project.” (Diego Puerta, a.k.a. Dromedarios Mágicos is currently part of Maverick’s live band)
Ed’s music is simple, yet holds a lot of yearning feelings within it. Some of it stems from the lyrics about love, but the music itself seems to be painted in sepia tones. Perhaps there’s a fundamental essence that gets stuck from the creative process of the songwriter. “It has a lot to do with my environment. In my mom’s house back in Delicias, there’s a park and some unkempt fields right around the corner. When the sun sets, it looks gorgeous. I would sometimes go outside to have a smoke and looking at the sunset would make me think about a lot. Then I would go inside and write something.”
Having played drums in church and in a corrido group, his new adventure consisted of writing songs every time his school work would let him, starting with “Quiero.” Under the production of Eidan Velázquez, he put out a collection of those recordings under the name Mix Pa Llorar En Tu Cuarto in March 2018. Soon after, everything would change. “There was a contest to open for Caloncho in Chihuahua right around the time we put out the album, so I tried it. That was the first time I played live as Ed Maverick. I came dead last,” he laughs. “But two people — these two complete strangers from another town — showed up and already knew every word of the songs, and the album had just been out for like two weeks. That was trippy.”
Thanks to word spreading via YouTube and Social Media, “Acurrucar” became a hit in no time. Once there was enough hype, Maverick and Velázquez booked 14 tour dates, financed with merchandise the pair would make themselves. “I was still in high school, getting told off by teachers because I was booking shows during classes. They thought I was on social media.” Soon the tours got longer and the operation bigger, culminating with signing a deal with Universal Music in Mexico. Still, there was so much work to be done for Maverick.
To fans and outsiders, things seem to be going just gravy for Maverick, a success story through and through. However, things have been more complicated for him. “There are no musicians in my family and I don’t have industry contacts or anything; I knew nothing about this and I couldn’t turn to anybody for advice. I didn’t know how to deal with people or to talk to the media, and everything went by so fast. There was a time I obsessed over every little detail because I didn’t know how to do it. Then there was another period where I was missing meetings. That’s something I didn’t dig but it was cool as well. A learning experience.”
“For a moment, I felt that my project was getting away from my hands,” Maverick continues about adjusting to a new level of fame and working conditions. “Now I make a point of getting involved in everything that has to do with my career. Until a month ago, I hadn’t written anything for so long. It’s the first time I’m writing and recording by myself so that’s a new challenge. I’m being more responsible.”

Another setback for Ed’s inspiration came from his change in environments. Having moved from the relative peace and quiet of Delicias to the bustle of Mexico City. “The city was bringing me down,” says the singer. “I stopped doing a lot of stuff because of how I was feeling around here. The weather here is very mild, and that doesn’t inspire me; also to live far away from my family is hard. I have adapted a bit now and have been working out these feelings. Nobody tells you how to live by yourself when you’re 18.”
As mentioned, Maverick has started working on some music for what he hopes to be his debut full-length to be released sometime in 2020. Having already established a sound, Ed is now ready to try new things, inspired by recent discoveries like Spinetta, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan. He expresses interest in going “beyond the acoustic guitar stuff, do whatever inspires me. Use whatever I have within my reach —I just got a mandolin, an electric guitar, and a tambourine— to make music. It’s not the same sound, but it has the same vibe.“
As for what the future holds for Maverick he tells us. “I don’t make plans. If everything runs its course in 10 years, I’ll be 28 and still have a ton of time to do something else in my life. I can do so much more. Or not, but at least I have done something already. There’s so much I have already lived that I’ll never forget.”
Still, Eduardo Hernández Saucedo is not ready to leave behind the Ed Maverick mantle. Brighter things might be just over the horizon. ”Things are going to be crazier [in 2020]. I think this U.S. tour is going to change a lot of things for me. It’s very exciting.”
