Everyone in Encanto could be seen, bussing around. And when I say, everyone, I mean it. Even children could be seen, helping adults in preparations.
'A preparations for what?' You may ask. Well, for Dolores and Mariano's wedding, of course! Only last week, during beautiful sunset, did Mariano proposed to Dolores. It only took Dolores a few seconds, to realize what was happening and when she did, a loud 'yes!' could be heard from where they were standing.
Later that night, a young couple announced they're engagement to the rest of the Madrigal's. Of course, everyone were happy for them! Alma, as the oldest and the head of the family, gave them her blessing and immediately went, to announce the great news to the whole Encanto. Above Pepa's head a beautiful rainbow appeared, as she and Felix gave them their blessings and many tight hugs and kisses. Julieta and Augustin, too rushed where the couple were and gave them tight hugs, softly congratulating them. Mirabel, Louisa and Isabela gave each other high fives, with satisfied smirks on their faces. And Camilo and Antonio rushed towards their sister, showering her in affection, because they loved her and were a little sad that she was 'leaving' them to start a new chapter in her life.
The next day, congratulations were thrown at the young couple from every corner. Everyone, and I mean, everyone were happy for them.
The date of the wedding was quickly picked and preparations for this event had officially begun! And oh boy, was there a lot to do.
Decorations, food, guests, wedding dress, suit for Mariano...the list goes on and on. Poor Dolores became a nervous wreck. Even when her family assured her, that they would help her the best they could, her worries and fears took the best of her. All she could see was a vision of her wedding being ruined, just like her mom's. No, she wasn't angry at uncle Bruno, because he couldn't control his visions, but she was worried that something else my ruin her special day. After all, there were so many things that could go wrong! Poor thing, practically switched roles with her mother. Now Pepa was the one who had to constantly calm her daughter down...
While Dolores was too busy worrying about her nearing wedding, in reality everything was going smoothly. Under the watchful eye of Alma, people worked day after day. Pepa helped everyone by just being in a good mood and giving them the sunny weather all week. Julietta, with help, spend hours in the kitchen, preparing dishes. Isabela helped to make a lot of flowers needed for the decorations, Louisa put things into their rightful places and Mirabel locked herself inside her room, sewing her cousin wedding dress. Antonio choose to spend time with his mother and sister and Camilo? Camilo was everywhere, doing everything. Since he can change forms, he could practically everything. From helping with decorations to trying to make his sister laugh.
And Camilo didn't mind. He liked feeling useful and was driven by the fact that it was his older sister wedding. Those two sources of motivation, gave him necessary boosts of energy to help around. Besides, he had another, secret, motivation...
(name) Guzman. She was Mariano's cousin and Camilo and her had met some time ago. He didn't really remember how it had happened, but he and (name) became good friends. And recently something more. Again, Camilo didn't know how it came to be, but he was happy. Really happy and stupidly in love.
But since Camilo and (name) heard about the engagement, they've decided to keep their relationship a secret. They had agreed on that without hesitation. They didn't want to ruin his sister's and her cousin's special time. Their relationship could wait a little longer and they were more than fine with that.
But Bruno shattered their peace by being the usual lovely dork that he was. While you and Camilo were on a date, just a picnick in the middle of the meadow, Bruno decided that he wanted to go on a stroll with his rat friend, Alina. The youngest Madrugal triplet was having nice conversation with Alina, when he noticed his nephew and Mariano's cousin having a picnicking. At first, he thought that it was just two friends who decided to hang out, so he let it slide. And then...
Bruno saw Camilo hugging you tightly and kissing your cheek lovingly.
Bruno gasped once again, and Alina squeaked loudly, but this time louder and unfortunately, he managed to catch attention of his nephew, who in flash turned his head around and his warm brown eyes met his green ones. Camilo eyes widened as his shoulders tensed up, quickly realizing what had just occurred.
His uncle found out that you're dating and tomorrow was a last dinner between Guzman's and Madrigal's before the wedding day.
You were doomed.
The dinner time came much quicker than Camilo would like. After your date, he couldn't stop thinking about his uncle potentially spoiling his sister's day. His brain kept showing him awful visions of potential future, where Bruno accidentally tells both his and your family that you're dating and Dolores would be devastated, because all attention is now on you. And how she would cry, because her special day was ruined because of you.
No, he won't allow it to happened. Camilo will make sure of it. Everything, the dinner and the wedding, will go smoothly.
Oh how wrong he was.
Since it was special day, today's dinner was served outside. The delicious food was laid on the table, Isabela made a two small bouquets that she puts into glass vases and placed them on the table and everyone sat down in their places. Mariano sat with his fiance and you sat next to him. Camilo sat opposite of you, and just besides his dear uncle. Alma with a warm smile, welcomed everyone and the dinner had officially begun.
While everyone were chatting happily, Camilo kept a watchful eye out for his uncle. Every time Bruno opened his mouth, he received a glare from his nephew, making poor man gulp and turn his head to the other side. In some way, Camilo was succeeding in keeping his uncle quiet. So far, everything was going smoothly...
❝ Can someone pass me arepa? ❞ Asked Alma, looking at the plate on the other side of the table.
❝ Here-! ❞
❝ Let me-! ❞
Both Camilo and Bruno reached for the plate and their hands had accidentally touched. Both men were blinded by the green color, as they both witness what was about to come. There was Dolore's wedding and...you. It looked like you had cached the bouquet and Camilo was hugging you, kissing your cheek. Then, he saw everyone standing around them, probably gasping in surprise. Tomorrow, everyone would know...Dolores would be devastated...
❝ Camilo...! ❞
❝ Bruno...! ❞
❝ Wake up! ❞ Both Camilo and Bruno snapped out of the trace after hearing Alma's voice. Like they were burned, both men jumped away from each other, trying to catch their breaths. Only after Camilo looked down at himself, did he realize that he accidentally keep changing into you, Bruno, Dolores and Mariano. Taking a deep breath, Camilo stopped changing, a looked at his uncle with wide eyes, trying to make sense of what he had just seen.
❝ Brunito, what happened?! ❞ Asked worried Alma, quickly running to his son and checking on him.
❝ Was this about my wedding?! ❞ Dolores burst out, worry filling her doe like eyes again.
❝ No, no, no! It was just something about...uh...my room! ❞ Bruno tried to assure his niece, smiling awkwardly at everyone and apologizing every minute for the inconvenience.
❝ Yeah! Bruno has been training his powers and now he gets those small visions here and there. Hehehehe... ❞ Camilo joined his uncle and laughed it off, secretly feeling something dying inside of him.
After a few more minutes, everything went back to normal, and the dinner resumed. Food quickly disappeared and Mariano had to go back with his family. You all said your goodbyes and parted your ways, while Madrigal's keep waving at you. And when you disappeared from their sight, Dolores was quick to grasp his uncle arm and started dragging him towards the kitchen. Ignoring his uncle protests, everyone rushed after the bride and Camilo was ahead of the rest. His heart squeezed painfully, afraid that Bruno would tell her everything.
❝ What did you see?! Tell me! ❞ He heard Dolore's yelling, as he had entered the kitchen.
❝ N-Nothing! ❞
❝ Tell me! ❞ Dolores started to shake the poor man by his shoulders, desperate to know the answer.
❝ Dolores! Stop this at once! ❞ Alma was quick to react, and step in at the right time, freeing Bruno from the poor girl's grasps. Older woman checked on her precocious son, caressing his cheeks and trying to calm him down.
❝ Brunito, go to your room... ❞
Camilo watched everything happening before him, feeling guilty. He tried so hard to stop this disaster from ruining his sister mood and he still failed...
❝ Camilo... ❞ He heard his mother calling him and he turned around to face her. Camilo saw a stormy cloud above her head, and feel even more guilty. Now his sister and mami were in a bad mood...
❝ Please, tell us what you saw... ❞ Begged him Pepa, grasping his hands in her own, looking into his soul. The young boy was forced to make a decision he was not ready for. Gulping, Camilo shook his head softly and whispered:
❝...good ❞ Camilo added in his head, knowing perfectly well, that story about his mother's wedding would be repeating itself tomorrow.

wait for you
Inspired by the Book of Life.
You and Camilo were inseparable for as long as the two of you can remember though a fateful accident and an angry father would tear the two of you apart. Camilo vows wait for you. No matter how long it takes.
masterlist !! part 2
“(Name)! Camilo!” A frustrated and angry scream had echoed on the streets of Encanto.
It was a common occurrence for the people of Encanto to hear one name after the other being yelled out followed by children’s laughter. Everyone had been used to it by now, shaking their heads as two familiar eight year old's had run by, hand in hand with one another.
The perpetrators? The trickster pair of Encanto, the infamous Camilo Madrigal and you, (Name) Castillo, the only daughter of the town’s revered tradesman as well as widower, Ignacio Castillo. The two of you had ruled the streets of Encanto with your pranks and jokes. It was an unlikely duo to be sure. Most thought of you as an angelic little girl who could do no wrong, unbeknownst to the people of Encanto, you were a menace. Maybe even worse than Camilo Madrigal whose infamy preceded his good deeds.
You two were inseparable, often being found side by side with one another. Many knew of the bond the two of you had. There was no Camilo without (Name), and there was no (Name) without Camilo.
“C’mon, (Name)!” Camilo exclaims as he pulls you to the townsquare, intent on losing the angry baker whose face was red with anger and covered with flour, chasing the two of you.
It would have been a normal occurrence had Camilo not been distracted by you. It was no secret that he had admired you, and as an eight year old boy, he thought nothing of it. Just some silly little crush that made butterflies flutter in his tummy. Just some silly crush that would have him awake all night thinking of that smile on your face. Just some silly little crush.. right? His freckled cheeks reddened as he tightened his hand on yours, giving it a squeeze as he looked back at your smiling face.
Your eyes were squeezed shut as you had laughed before your happy face had turned into one of horror and he felt you tug on his hand.
“¡Estar atento! Camilo, look out!” Before he could react he could feel himself crash into someone, ruana snagging onto a particular sharp corner of one of the milk crates in the farmer’s hands, pulling you with him and you had recognized the shouts of alarm from the local dairy farmer. Crates of precious bottled milk came toppling over and the milk had soaked the once dried path.
The aftermath was not a good one. You were both on the ground, reeling from the collision. Camilo groaned in pain, holding his head before a soft wince had caught his attention. He immediately sat up, ignoring his blurred vision, his now ruined ruana, and the pounding of his head.
“¿Estás bien, (Name)?!” The shapeshifter was by your side, helping you sit up. He grimaced at the sight before him but all he could focus on was you who gave him a toothy grin, ignoring your own pain to answer the worried boy.
“I’m alright, Camilo.” You reassure but before you can say anything more, a familiar and stern bark had made you stiffen up, freezing in Camilo’s embrace. “Oh no..” You had pursed your lips, glancing at the milk crates with the familiar brand that was embedded on the wooden grain.
‘Comercio de Castillo’ greeted your eyes and you knew you were doomed. Your father’s trade supplies. The whole lot of it now pooled underneath your sandals.
“(Name) Elena Mendoza Castillo!” You had paled, looking up to see your furious father. If he could have steam coming out of his ears you were sure he would have had it already. You hadn’t seen your father this angry before and you scrambled to stand up, grasping onto your now ruined dress that was stained with mud and milk. Shame filled you as a crowd had started to form, whispers and murmurs of gossipers filled your ears as they tried to see what had gone down.
“Papa..” You start weakly, unable to meet your father’s eyes. “Papá, Lo siento, we were just—“
“No, (Name), ¡He tenido suficiente! I have had enough!” He was red in the face. So red it put Isabela’s roses to shame.
“Señor, (Name) didn’t do anything,” Camilo starts weakly. Although he himself was afraid, he didn’t dare show it, mustering up the courage to stand between you and your father. Ignacio’s eyes softened for a moment but had hardened once more once he saw the bruises that appeared as the result of your painful collision with the crates and he shook his head. For a moment you were sure he’d just sigh again like always and then let you off but today was different. Today, it seemed like he had enough. “I was the one who bumped into the milk crates, please don’t be angry, Señor. I’m sure my abuela can do something about the–”
“No.” Ignacio was stone-faced, his tone firm as if he had settled upon something in his mind. He had ignored Camilo’s attempts of calming him down. “Tienes que parar. This has to stop. For too long I have been patient with you, mija. But no more.”
“Papa? What do you mean?” Clueless and dreading the worst, you ask.
“You are to leave Encanto. No longer am I putting up with this.. This reckless behavior. You are to attend boarding school in the city. I am no longer tolerating this behavior, (Name). Either you learn to become proper or you do not return at all.”
Camilo’s eyes widened. You? Leave? He immediately whipped his head to turn to you, your lower lip quivering as you burst into tears. Though there was little he could do as your father had swiftly picked you up in his arms, giving Camilo a look that the boy was unable to read before he marched to the direction of your home, your fists hitting the older man’s back as you sobbed and tried to reach out for Camilo.
You weren’t seen in town for days after that. Even as he waited upon your front gates with an apology he had practiced for a long while. The accident was relaid to his family and he had an earful of scolding from his mama, cautioning him of playing with you for a while as they heard of Ignacio’s scolding. The whole town had known what had gone down for rumors spread fast in a town as little as Encanto. Though that did not deter him. Everyday he had waited on the gates of your home. And everyday he would be disappointed as there was no sight of you. Today was different though, armed with flowers he had yanked from Isabela’s room, a basket of arepas from his Tia Julieta, and a chameleon stuffed toy he had made with the help of his mother, he had made his way to your home again. Only to find there was a horse-drawn carriage in front of your home.
It was only then he had spotted you, tears still streaming down your face as your father had knelt down, saying something he couldn’t quite hear. He could only make sense of a few words.
‘I’m sorry.. for your own good.. mother.. I don’t want you to end up.. same as her..”
You turn away from an apologetic Ignacio who had only sighed and gently embraced you before you had wriggled out of his grasp, clutching onto your dress as you made your way towards the carriage, not even noticing that Camilo had stood there until he said something.
You turned to look at him.
“Camilo..” Trying to wipe away the onslaught of tears that didn’t seem to stop no matter how much you rubbed, you caught his clueless gaze, smiling weakly as you spoke.
“I have to go.” The whisper made Camilo swallow thickly. “Papá wants me to learn how to be more proper.. how to be more ladylike..” He saw you grimace and stick your tongue out in distaste and if it weren’t for your departure, he would’ve laughed. He heard you sniffle before he felt you gently touching the ruana he wore. It was still ripped from the incident a few days ago.
Although he would want nothing more for you to stay, your father’s words, like his abuela Alma’s, was law. He nodded before gently pulling out the yellow chameleon stuffed toy that he had made. It wasn’t the most proper looking stuffed toy. It had mismatched stitching with different colored threads, buttons for eyes differing in size, but its eye colors had resembled Camilo’s.
You gasped as he gave it to you with a sheepish smile. “I figured, you needed a little part of town to go with you.” You held the stuffed toy close.
“Thank you, Camilo.” You murmur softly before you gently rummaged through the pile of leather chests, pulling out a white box with a yellow ribbon on it and handing it to him.
“This is to make up for ruining your ruana.”
Camilo parted his lips to say something, only to be interrupted by the coachman that took his place in front of the carriage. “Señorita Castillo. It’s time to leave.”
You purse your lips, glancing at Camilo briefly. “I have to go. Don’t forget me, okay?” You rushed past him, entering the carriage as you struggled to keep the tears at bay. Settling yourself on the soft cushions of the carriage seats, you held the stuffed toy close, intent on naming him Amarillo. Yellow as the sun that reminded you of the Madrigal boy.
Said curly haired boy had watched as you disappeared in the carriage, placing the box on the ground and carefully opening it up to reveal a yellow ruana with dark yellow stripes and chameleons embroidered on it. His eyes widened and he smiled, holding the ruana close to his chest, only then noticing the note that accompanied it.
‘If you see someone without a smile on their face, give them one of yours.’ And beside it was your name in delicate cursive swirls. ‘(Name)’
The carriage you sat in had moved, making you jerk forward and hold onto the stuffed toy tighter. Tears threatened to flow down your cheeks as you curled up against the walls of the carriage. You pulled your knees to your chest, trembling.
“(Name)..!” A shout had brought you out of your somber thoughts and you peered out the window to see Camilo running alongside your carriage. “When you come back, I’ll be sure to make you smile everyday!”
A smile graced your lips as you watched him run whilst holding his ruana close until he could run no longer. You sat back on your seat, clutching the stuffed chameleon close, a part of you knowing that you would return to the magical town of Encanto one day. And the thought comforted you. No longer did the tears come as someday you knew you would reunite with Camilo again.
Camilo still ran, his little legs burning as he tried in vain to catch up, only stopping when your carriage had left his sight and had left the town. He had sworn on that very moment that he would wait for you for however long it takes and would do right to ensure his promise to you would be fulfilled.
“I will wait for you.” He says, a look of determination on his features as he slipped the ruana on himself, smiling fondly.
For as long as it takes.

𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙮 : You noticed Camilo, properly
I do not know any Spanish so I did use a lot of google translate, so if there's any mistake I apologize, just let me know ill fix it asap
Camilo Madrigal was a very hard person to miss, whether it be the antics he caused when he'd shapeshift or the way he was when looking after the kids in town, how he would be all confident and borderline cocky until he'd drop or fumble over something, and that's when you fully noticed him.
You were stopping by to give your little sister some food as she played with her friends, with, of course, Camilo watching over them. And it was when he tried to juggle the bread pieces that you caught him slip up and miss them all. He dropped the confident smile and it replaced with nervousness as he looked around to see if anyone noticed, and his eyes caught yours as you were giggling to yourself.
Quickly Camilo rushed over to you a very embarrassed look caught on his face. "You didn't see that? Right?" Camilo asked a small smile stuck on his face.
"Oh no, I totally didn't see you drop the bread. Absolutely not," You teased, a smile matching your tone. Camilo sighed a light pink blush dying the end of his nose. "I'm Y/N, by the way."
Camilo smiled properly and stood up straighter, his confidence restored, "I'm Camilo Madrigal."
"I know," You knew, of course, you knew. Who didn't know the Madrigals? But it was too cute how he introduced himself. "Well, Camilo Madrigal, I'll see you around," You smiled turning on your heel to turn in the direction of your small house. Camilo stood there completely enamored, the sun dancing on your skin, making you shine.
The second time you noticed Camilo he was trailing behind his sister, talking about chores, or something about what his Abuela was making him do. It was obvious he was trying to convince Dolores to do his work, Dolores would decline but Camilo was stubborn. When he passed the small bread shop you were helping, he shifted in Dolores making you laugh lightly. Camilo's head snapped over to you, remembering that laugh, even through the embarrassing moment, he had a day ago. Camilo smiled and waved at you while shifting back to himself, you waved back and quickly motioned him over. Camilo didn't hesitate and immediately rushed to the stall, nearly slipping as he stumbled over a rock making his face heat up in embarrassment, again.
"You're quite clumsy, aren't you?" You said in a laugh once Camilo was close enough. Camilo brushed a hand along his face trying to wipe away the embarrassment. "Here, one for you one for Dolores." You passed Camilo two Churros, watching Camilo's eyes widen in appreciation.
"Ah, gracias," Camilo smiled motioning for the girl to come over, but she stood still with a slight smile, watching her little brother fall head over heels. "I'll bring you something next time," Camilo promised his curls bouncing with as he barely could contain his excitement of free food, from someone so pretty no less.
"No need, they had too much chocolate on them anyway," You explained, they didn't have too much chocolate, but making Camilo smile with that much excitement, was too hard to resist. "Just don't try and juggle them." Camilo laughed shaking his head lightly.
"See you around, Y/N," Camilo said with a grin before he ran back to Dolores, forgetting about bribing Dolores to do his chores, a dazed smile on his face.
The third time you didn't notice him until Camilo noticed you. Camilo had finished his chores and ran off to the market, (in search of you but he wouldn't admit that). He had found you by the edge of the river, tubes of paint at your side as you dragged a brush across the canvas. He could see the light splashed of paint on your arms, some even blotted on your cheek, some part of him wanting to make a comment about how you were already a work of art but thinking it would be too cheesy. Camilo quickly bought a few sweet treats before walking over to you, "Hola Y/N."
You jumped slightly but smiled seeing Camilo standing beside you, the sun illuminating him making him glow, his curls shinning. "Hola Camilo," You said sweetly pushing your paints away making room for Camilo to sit. Camilo smiled wider sitting cross-legged next to you, close enough that the edges of his ruana brushing your shoulder. "Don't think I've seen you around this early."
"I uh, finished my chores early- here," Camilo held out the sweet treat, which you gladly took, your fingertips brushing against his knuckles.
"Gracias Camilo, but I thought I told you not to bring me something," You said slightly guilty but Camilo waved it off.
"It's fine, I didn't want to be the only one eating," Camilo joked, taking a bite of his food.
"Oh, so you planned this?" You teased dropping your paintbrush in the grass, watching a blush crawl up Camilo's neck, his eyes widening slightly. Camilo stuttered on his words, trying to make a coherent excuse, instead, he shifted between the baker, his sister, you and then finally back to himself. You took a bite of your sweet giggling slightly to yourself.
"I uh, didn't plan this, I was um- I saw you and I just wanted to say hi," Camilo mumbled trying to shove more of the sweet in his mouth, trying to save himself from embarrassment.
You laughed again going to speak but your father called to you, asking for your help, Camilo's shoulder dropped slightly, not wanting you to leave so soon. You sighed shoving your paints into the basket you bought. You grabbed the canvas and handed it to Camilo, "You can keep it if you like."
Camilo smiled, nodding enthusiastically gently taking the painting from your hands. Camilo smiled chewing his bottom lip to prevent himself from grinning like a madman, "Yeah, thank you Y/N, I'll take good care of it."
You smiled standing up to leave but stopped. You knelt down quickly, pressing a chaste kiss to his freckled cheek, feeling his face heat beneath your touch, "Adiós, Camilo."
Camilo stilled, stunned, mumbling a goodbye, watching you jog over to your family's stall. He turned his head to gaze into the water, that was it, he was in love.

Headcanon time: Seeing as Camilo spends a lot of time shifted as others, he knows just as much of the gossip and secrets as Dolores does in Encanto. Only difference being, he has absolutely no context to any of it.
He spends most nights lying awake thinking about what the hell is going on because Dolores finds his confusion hilarious and refuses to answer any of his questions.
Also excuse my lazy backgrounds
Bonus under the cut:
Y/N: Do you have a self-care routine?
Camilo: "Keep going bitch" said to myself in different accents.
Imagine: playing with the hair of the Madrigal twins.
🦎☀ • Camilo doesn't really let anyone touch his hair, well besides his mamí. But he doesn't get a choice in that one, mostly because he is a mama's boy and can't deny his mama when she asks to brush his hair for old time's sake.
🦎☀ • When you both started dating he was ready to give you the hairbrush and any hair ties he could find in Casita, Camilo might be a natural flirt but when he falls he falls hard.
🦎☀ • he sits on the floor against his bed as he reads the new comic his Papí gave him for his birthday, leaning back as you run your fingers through his curls. He practically purrs at the feeling. It relaxes him every time.
His hair is actually very smooth and barely has any knots, mostly from the trauma he gained from his mother when he was younger about not keeping his hair well-kept as she yanked the hairbrush (if you know you know)
🦎☀ • Once you finished taking two sides of his hair and pulling each side tightening the hair tie and securing the high bun, his bangs hung around his face like his Mamí. He looked to his side stretching to see himself in his mirror from his sitting position and smiled. He liked it.
His Mamí was complimentary of his new hairstyle and was pleased to match with her son she had a rainbow over her head the rest of the day.
🦎🎤 • yeah. No. He doesn't let anyone touch his hair, and practically runs from his mamá when he sees her rushing toward him with a hairbrush, "Carlos Control that hair, or I'll do it for you!"
"No! Mamá it's my hair!"
🦎🎤 • When you start dating, it'll take some time before you get the privilege of touching his hair. He will try and hint at wanting his hair played with by resting his head in your lap but angles his head so his hair is perfectly in reach and accessible if you still don't get the hint? He huffs before grabbing your hair and placing it on his head.
🦎🎤 • His head rests on your lap as you both talk about your days (well, it's mostly just him braging about all the successful pranks he pulled that day) as you play with his hair. His hair is soft but has tangles for sure, no matter how many times his mamá lectured him about protecting his hair as he slept and detangling it regularly as she ripped a hairbrush through his curls before using a mountain of products to help with the detangling process it just never stuck.
But if you take the time to detangle his hair gently with few tugs as possible, he would appreciate it even if he won't say it out loud.
🦎🎤 • He barely notices his hair is in a high bun until he sits up and his hair doesn't cover one of his eyes like it usually does. He kinda just grumbles but is too lazy to untie the scrunchie knowing he would receive an earful if he just yanked it out not only from you but from his Mamá.
His mamá is very grateful for you and your service, if she had to detangle his hair one more time she was sure to thunder from his constant disregard of her words.

Mirabel: So, are we not going to address the elephant in the room?
Camilo, entering the room: AH! WHY IS THERE AN ACTUAL ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM?!
Antonio, appearing behind Camilo: His name is Alberto.
I've always wanted to see a fanart where Julieta teaches Camilo how to make an arepa, but this'll work! Julieta might have seen a lot of similarities of Camilo to Bruno when it comes to the kitchen!

𖥻 FLOWER BOY ft. camilo madrigal x gn!reader
— tw/cw: none!
— synopsis: just him being a lovesick dork.
Camilo watched as you happily conversed with his mother inside his home, suggesting decoration ideas for Antoñio’s incoming gift ceremony while also trying to calm the woman down at the same time.
You looked effortlessly beautiful. All he wanted to do was call you his. Though that’s to much to ask.
So with a heavy sigh, he left Casita to go out for a breath of fresh air. Walking towards the back yard of his home.
Sitting down ontop the grassy surface, he tucked his knees under his chin as he picked a flower from beside him. “Y/n loves me, they love me not, Y/n loves me...” He continued until no petals remained, “They love me not.” He grumbled, picking up another flower to try again. And again. And again.
“Okay! This is my last chance. I’ve plucked everything near me if this doesn’t work I swear!” With a concentrated look, he tries one last time.
“Y/n loves me, they love me not, they love-“
Camilo froze, craining his head slowly behind him. Ultimately making him face to face with you who had bent down slightly. A small smile curled your lips as you straightened out, but not before ruffling the boys curls. “You’ve been out here for a while, Cariño. Pepa asked me to call you in for dinner.” With that, you left.
Leaving behind an embarrassed, flustered, and suprised Camilo Madrigal.
Could I have some cuddle headcanons with Mirabel and a short gender-neutral reader?

the honeymoon hug.
she likes having her face in your chest and just relaxing after any day.
loves if you play with her hair while you two cuddle.
legs intertwined and arms around each other, nothing could get better than that.
lay atop of him.
your head on his chest and his arms hugging your back, legs intertwined, it’s perfect.
he’ll play with your hair and give your scalp a massage.
it’s heaven honestly.
any way she can have her hands on you and be close to you, she’ll be thriving.
but she does find benefit if she can wrap her legs around you and be unbelievably close.
she just loves being all up in your personal space.
doesn’t mind if he’s the big or little spoon, so long he gets to be with you.
if he’s the big spoon, expect little tickles from him every now and then. just cause he likes to bug ya.
he’ll occasionally give you a squeeze, hands around your waist, just so you know he’s there.
and when he’s the little spoon, he loves when you play with his hair.
he finds it immensely relaxing and will biome putty in your hands immediately.
⊹₊ ⋆ ❝ Camilo being in love with a girl with butterfly wings ❞
✎ ⁞ Camilo Madrigal x Female! Reader with butterfly wings
✎ ⁞ requested by @bxnnygirl
✎ ⁞ date: 26.12.2021
You were a little miracle. Born with two small pair of wings on your small back, softly fluttering when you were moving around.
Your parents, although taken aback, fell in love with the second they saw you. And your wings? In their eyes, it had only made you even more special than you already were.
Since they were living in Encanto since the very begging of it, news quickly spread around the towns people about your special attribute. Naturally, people grew interested in you, especially the members of Madrigal family.
Alma Madrigal visited your parents personally, to see you with her own eyes. Even if she didn't let it show, because of her cold and collected attitude, she was fascinated by the sight of your small wings. Naturally, she did a little investigation about that matter, because she wanted to know how it was possible for someone from outside her family to be given a gift.
In the end, neither she, nor your parents found anything. All they could do was to accept the fact that you were just a special case.
Unlike many may think, you had normal childhood. Your past memories were filled with nothing but happiness. Your parents gave you all their love and so, you grew up to be a sweet girl yourself.
In school, you've made great friends, but your best friend was no one other than Camilo Madrigal himself.
The chameleon of Madrigal family just happened to be the same age as you. That's why you shared classes with him.
It started innocently, with both of you being fascinated with each other because if your powers. But then, after you showed of your gifts to each other, you discovered that it wasn't just a childish fascination, but something deeper. You wanted to get to know each other, to become friends.
And friends did you become. A great ones too. The friendship you had, was precious and one of the kind. Anyone looking at you two could tell.
And everything was fine and dandy, until you've reached your teenager years. That's when everything changed.
Puberty hit both of you hard. And I mean, hard. Camilo became a handsome boy, with soft curls and charming personality. His gift grew with him, allowing him to change into others with more precision and faster.
You too, grew like a true butterfly that you were. From a simple caterpillar, you blossomed into a true beauty, with even more beautiful wings. And even if you didn't notice that, people around surely did.
❝ Isn't (name) truly beautiful? ❞
❝ Yes, she is. And with her wings, she looks like the most beautiful butterfly. ❞
But Camilo was a special case. He not only notice your change in appearance but also discovered that his heart started beating faster at the mere thought of you. Of course, at first, he ignored it, blaming it on something random. But...the problem began when those feelings didn't change. With every day and interaction, his heart started to beat faster around you and his face started to feel really warm around you.
It only striked him one night, when he was laying in his bed. All the stories his parents had told him about how they fell in love and their feelings to each other. Camilo compared the descriptions given to him to his own feelings and the conclusion drew itself.
The boy was in l o v e. With his best friend. Who had butterfly wings. And was the most kindest and fairest person in Encanto.
That night, Camilo didn't sleep a wink. He couldn't. With all this new informations, his thoughts were running miles per minute. But they had one thing in common. You.
As if something had switched inside him, whenever he thought about you, all Camilo saw was your beautiful self. You soft skin, amazing eyes, pretty hair and those beautiful wings.
❝ Mi Mariposa is so pretty... ❞
Camilo thought with lovestruck face, sighing longingly. At this point, he was gone. Poof! Bye cocky Camilo! Welcome soft boy whipped for a girl!
So yeah, since that moment, Camilo turned into a shy boy around you. Whenever you met or hanged out around each other, he turned into a puddle. Blushing, stuttering and nervous fidgeting became a normal basis for him.
Let me tell you, the amount of squealing and lovely dovely muttering Dolores had heard from her little brother, made her realize that she wasn't as romantic person a she thought to be.
Of course, even when nervous, he tries his best to woo you. It could be by helping you around the town, giving you small but meaningful things or sweetly complementing you. This whipped boy did everything for you. Because you were his Mariposa and love of his life.
To be honest, he was ready to skip the whole dating stage and marry you on the spot. Because he saw you as his beautiful and kind wife. There was no one else for him.
But you're probably curious, how Camilo actually confessed to you?
The answer is very simple.
He didn't. It was you, who had actually confessed first. During one of celebrations in Encanto, when the moment was right, you took him aside and let your feelings out.
Camilo was too stunned to speak. Your words barely reached his ears, as his wide eyes were staring at your blushing face and your soft wings fluttering behind you. Only when he had realized, that you were waiting for him to react, did he know that it was not in fact a dream but reality.
So without another word, he took you in his arms and sweetly kissed you, while fireworks blew behind you.
❝ I love you too, Mi Mariposa ❞ Camilo whispered, while pulling away from the kiss, smiling brightly, like a true sunshine that he was.
⊹₊ ⋆ ❝ Bonus ❞
After the confession, you got a matching jewelry. It was Camilo's idea to add a butterfly charm to his jewelery and a chameleon charm to yours.
This boy loved to watch you fly. You were so graceful and beautiful, he could stare at you for hours.
About your wings, only after a few years did you allowed him to touch them. It was because they were very sensitive and soft. So after you explained to him why no one was allowed to touch them, did he understood. And when you actually allowed him to touch them? Camilo felt so honoured, like he was awarded the highest honours and man could get.
While touching your wings, he was very careful. You shivered slightly feeling his touch but allowed him to do it. And let me tell you, Camilo never touched anything softer than your wings.
And that event, my dear readers, fully confirmed that the wedding between you two would become a reality.
Dolores called dibs on being your maid of honor.
(Mirabel was ready to pick a fight with her) (She was still salty after that dinner incident)

Not much was exactly known about you when you first came to the village but in the dead of night, donkey hooves were heard clopping around the paths of Encanto, apart from the soft murmurs of those who had helped you move into your new home. As soon as the sun rose from between the mountains of Encanto, citizens had helped in building a new home for the newcomers that consisted of a mother and a daughter no younger than fifteen.
Rumors had it that the duo had escaped from another nearby town or that the mother and daughter had stowed away on a produce cart bound for said village but no one was sure and no one would ask. The small family, if you can even call them that, kept to themselves, walking the streets without meeting anyone’s eyes. Magdalena, your mother was almost always covered up, her face draped with a silk cloth so only her eyes would be visible. Magdalena and (Name) Basilio were an enigma that the villagers and a certain shapeshifter were itching to uncover.
Looking at them from afar, the two were normal.
Though there was a certain elegance that the two odd newcomers of Encanto had exuded. Proper postures, chins up, and clothes that were a bit more extravagant than a normal person in the village would have. As closed off as you two were, the villagers would often find themselves staring as you walked by.
Of course many rumors arose from the townspeople even as you had already been residing there for months already. Some more far-fetched from the others but some truer than they seem.
Though today was a bit different, only one Basilio was out and about in town today. The lovely (Name). Unlike Magdalena, you were surprisingly amicable, smiling so sweetly that you had managed to charm the people you’ve encountered in the short time you’ve stayed in the town. Though they would often notice that despite the twinkle in your eyes, the smile on your face never quite reached your eyes.
You were looking over the produce, not really knowing how to tell apart the ripe ones from the overripe ones. Pursing your lips as the shopkeeper, who you had known as Paulina, stifles a laugh and shakes her head.
“Your mamá should really teach you the difference, chiquita.” You can only smile. You really had no knowledge of these things that other boys and girls your age were already experts at. Though before you could say anything more, a yell of your name interrupted you.
“(Name)!” Ah. That voice sounds familiar. Turning around you were greeted by the boy you had surprisingly gotten close to. It only took bumping both of your heads into one another while browsing in the local library for a good book for you two to befriend one another.
“Camilo!” You exclaim, stifling a laugh as you as he bumped your shoulder with his. “Oh? Tia Magdalena is not with you today, princesa?” The boy tilted his head as he looked around to get a glimpse of your mother, upon finding none he looked at you with an excited grin. You shook your head, smiling sheepishly with a blush on your cheeks at the nickname. “No, ‘Milo. Mamá isn’t with me today.”
At that, the boy let out a sigh of relief.
“Ah, c’mon, ‘Milo, my mamá isn’t that bad.” You chide with a pout as the Madrigal boy had shrugged his shoulders. “You say that but sometimes I can just see her looking at me like she wants me to go away.” You purse your lips at what he said, knowing well the reason why she was so protective.
“Mamá asked me to do today’s errands for her.” You say, trying to change the subject and recalling your mother’s stern but still soft reminder for you to return home as soon as you were done. “But I’m having a bit of trouble figuring out the difference between a ripe or an overripe mango.” You say with a soft sigh which Camilo chuckles at.
“No te preocupes, (Name). I got this.” You can only smile gratefully as the boy began filling up your basket with mangoes and all the other fruits and vegetables on your list. Even haggling with Paulina for your sake.
“Ay, come on, Paulina! Why not a discount for my girl?”
Paulina playfully sneered at Camilo, the older woman looking at you two with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
“Your girl, huh?” As she repeated these words, Camilo had suddenly stilled, coughing as his form began to change from Abuela, to Mirabel, to his mamá, and finally a disfigured version of himself before he changed back to normal. All the while you stayed quiet by his side, beyond flustered yourself.
Sure Camilo had called you different pet names before but something about him calling you his girl had allowed the butterflies to flutter inside your tummy. Your cheeks felt so warm that it would put Pepa Madrigal’s happy sunny days to shame. Don’t tell her you said that though.
“Huh?! You must have heard wrong, Lina!” He averted his gaze, freckled cheeks burning at the slip-up. “You better get to Tia Julieta and get some of her arepas, your hearing is getting worse, Abuela Lina!” He says, grabbing the now heavy basket in your hands and marching away.
“¡Vamos, princesa! I’ll walk you home!” He says, not even turning back as he starts to walk away. You quickly snap out of your stupor. You were about to pay Paulina but she had stopped you.
“On the house. For Camilo’s girl.” She teased before shooing you away. You can only thank her before following Camilo.
The way home was filled with laughs and giggles, along with actually eating some of the mangoes with Camilo telling you how he had messed with Dolores again by teasing her of Mariano and how he had successfully secured a batch of arepas under his bed. Unbeknownst to him, his Tio Bruno’s rat friends had already gotten to it.
Seeing the familiar steps that led to your home, you had turned to him with a sweet smile on your face. “Thank you for today, Camilo.” Upon hearing your voice, he turned to you, the burning of his cheeks gone but you could still see that the tips of his ears had turned pink. “No hay problema, princesa.” He couldn’t help but admire your face, taking in every inch of your features as if it would be the last time he’d see you. You were always so beautiful, he had thought when he had first caught a glimpse of you, prior to meeting you in the library.
You had accompanied your mamá on your very first trip outside your new house. He remembered it fondly, you were wearing a white top with delicate ruffles, your skirt a yellow that surprisingly had matched the color of his ruana. When you smiled, though not at him or for him, he swore his heart stopped beating before picking up in a much faster pace from before. He was honestly whipped. Of course he wouldn’t tell you that though. At least not yet.
You smile wider, not even paying attention anymore, unaware that Camilo had lifted his hand with the intention to gently pat your head but upon seeing his hand raised, your eyes widened in alarm and you flinched hard, stumbling back with a gasp and landing on the pavement with a loud thud. Your arms instinctively cover your face.
“(Name)! Princesa, ¿Estás bien?!” Camilo was as startled as you were, dropping down to his knees as he looked at you with concern in his eyes. Your heart hammered against your chest, wide eyed as you couldn’t believe how you had just reacted. To Camilo of all people.
But before you could answer him, he was suddenly shoved aside and you were quickly pulled in said someone’s arms. squinting a little as you realized who it was.
“M-Mamá!?” You gape before glancing at Camilo who had swallowed thickly as Magdalena glared at him.
“What do you think you’re doing to my daughter? You stay away from us, Madrigal! If you know what is best for you.” Camilo’s eyes widened and he quickly stood up. “No, no, Señora! You misunderstand I was just trying to-“
“Mamá, please, Camilo was just..!” You tried desperately to explain before your mother had hoisted you up. “I don’t need to hear anything from him.” She says stubbornly, snatching the basket from his hands.
“You men are the same.” The older Basilio had hissed. “I better not see you anywhere near (Name), Madrigal. I don’t want you anywhere near her!” She says as she turns her back on Camilo after making sure you were alright. “And you (Name) stay away from him. You know what would happen with men like him.” She made you look at her, unknowingly dropping the shawl that had covered her face to reveal the ugly scar going across her face. A scar so deep not even Julieta Madrigal’s arepa could heal it. She had quickly covered her face again, looking at you with an unreadable expression.
And you paled, throat tightening as you remember just who had given her that.
“No, mamá, Camilo I.. he isn’t like papá..!” Before you could say anything else you were pulled along inside your home, casting Camilo a desperate and sorrowful expression, mouthing an ‘I’m sorry’ before your mother had shut the door behind you, leaving Camilo in shock and wondering what he had done wrong. Or rather, what was your mamá’s problem with him?
And he knew just the person to ask.
I hope I did this one justice! Any thoughts/ opinions would be appreciated as does any like or reblog! I think I got too carried away though, sorry anon! I hope you don’t mind!

Camilo groaned shifting in his bed. It was well past midnight, he had been asleep for at least four hours, flopping into his bed at nine not even bothering to take his shoes or ruana off. Camilo felt sore, heavy, completely broken. He had been shapeshifting all day, entertaining people, watching over kids, doing chores, catching up on work, doing runs across town, and it was when a bunch of seven-year-olds rushed to him basically begging him to shapeshift for them. And then it felt like Luisa hit him like a tone of bricks, no one wanted to be entertained by Camilo they just wanted his gifts. He didn't even realize he was crying until a sob left his throat making his chest ache. Camilo shoved his face in his pillow trying not to cry, just teetering on a panic attack.
That morning, everyone noticed Camilo was off. Bags dragging his eyes down, a quiet rasped voice, refusing seconds and even taking smaller portions anyway. Pepa and Felix tried questioning him but he softly declined. And the whole house almost yelled when Camilo shifted, letting out a painful groan before pushing himself out of the house, limping out the door.
Camilo walked to the outskirts of town, to the forest the sat on the other side of the river, shifting back to himself noticing you sitting under the tree, waiting for him. Your gaze shifted over to him waving at him with a large smile. Camilo dragged himself to you plopping down in the grass, sighing in content that he didn't have to move anymore. "Hola, Mi Vida," You giggled seeing him sprawled out on the floor. "Camilo are you okay?" You asked running your hands through his curls, noticing he wasn't as happy-go-lucky. Camilo moved to sit on his knees his heartbreaking noticing your face drop. You moved to hold his face running your thumb under his eyes feeling the dark purples circles. "Milo, what happened?" Camilo snapped, falling against your shoulder his body shaking as he sobbed. You wrapped your arms around him, holding him, letting him let go of his emotions. "It's okay Amor, let it out."
Camilo cried, sobbed, for nearly ten minutes, you let him cry, knowing Abuela didn't let Pepa show her emotions, you guessed Camilo bottled it up just the same. "I'm sorry Y/N, I just-"
"Don't apologize Cami," You spoke, stopping him. "You're allowed to cry." Camilo nodded moving to rest more comfortably against you, head on shoulder, hands intertwined as he rested against your chest. "Do you wanna talk?" You asked running your fingers across his knuckles.
Camilo nodded stretching his legs out. "I don't think- I don't think anyone really wants me," Camilo confessed, his voice cracking, lip quivering. "They just want my gift, no one wants me to entertain them, they want just to me shapeshift. And I did it so much yesterday I'm so sore, I could barley walk on the way over here." Now it was your turn for your heart to shatter, hearing Camilo talk so lowly about himself made you ache. The way he said it, so emotionlessly, like it was drilled into him.
You turned Camilo around to face you, slotting him between your legs. You took his face in your palms pulling him close to rest your forehead on his. Camilo moved his arms around and you cringed hearing him wince. "Camilo Madrigal," You said sternly, "your gift is amazing and yes it entertains people, but you are so much more than that. You make people smile no matter how you choose to entertain them. You are talented, funny-no powers needed. My Camilo is adorable, I mean have you seen your cute little face. You're are so sweet to everyone you meet, you treat your family amazingly, especially Pepa. You are a beautiful soul, a stubborn soul who needs to look after himself better, but beautiful no less. Camilo, you are special, a gift to this world, powers or not."
Camilo looked into your eyes, stray tears falling down his cheeks. Camilo smiled knocking his nose against yours, "I don't deserve you."
"You deserve the world," you whispered.

My Knight in Yellow Ruana
Camilo Madrigal x Fem!reader
Summary: You were just doing your chores delivering vegetables to your father's stand when an old "friend" of yours started pestering you.
A/n: Camilo and Y/n is somewhere in their early 20's just for the plot, you'll know why later *wink wink*
It was pretty normal day in the encanto, everyone is working hard to earn a living and the Familia Madrigal is happy to help them.
Y/n, the farmer's daughter is also starting her day after harvesting crops that will be sold to the market on her father's stand.
She was walking with crates full of carrots in her hand while greeting the people she passed with.
"Oh Y/n, is that a fresh batch?" Señora Guzman asked the girl
"Si, but this is for mi papa's store. I'll deliver your orders later when I got back" the girl smiles at the middle aged woman.
"Ay gracias hija, tell your papa that I'll might order more radishes next time" the old lady then bid her goodbye.
Continuing her walk on the way to the market her arms start to get a bit tired with carrying the crates so she puts them down for a second, Luisa is nowhere to be found so she must be rerouting the river again.
Well Y/n can handle carrying the heavy crates for a bit longer, or that is what she wants to believe.
When she was about to pick the crates again a familiar voice was heard.
"Ay Y/n you are getting yourself dirty, it is improper for a lady to carry stuff."
The young lady's mood instantly deteriorate after hearing that sentence
"Hola Joaquin" she tries to move past him but to her dismay the guy just won't let her.
"Hey I told you stop carrying those act like a proper lady for once, let me help you" Joaquin was about to snatch the crates but Y/n easily walked away no scratch that Y/n sprinted away from him.
That man never knew what boundary is, Joaquin is one of Y/n's suitors but even after she rejected him dozen of times, the guy doesn't seem to know how to accept defeat.
And why is Joaquin rejected? Sure he is brave, and masculine, too masculine. Joaquin is the type of guy that says women should be doing house chores and all of those crap. So that's the reason he was rejected.
Each day gets more annoying as the man tries to take another shot of wooing the young lady.
Y/n finally arrived at the market and make her way to her father who is setting up signs for the new batch.
"Well you look rather gloomy, mi vida. Is everything alright?" Señor L/n looks at her daughter
"Of course Papa, just ran into someone but anyway, here are the carrots you asked and also Señora Guzman said she'll order more radishes next time" Y/n said as she placed the crates of carrot on the shelf
"Well that's good news, now why don't you go and take a rest, get ready for lunch, I'll handle things here okay?" He kissed Y/n's forehead
"Okay Papi" and with that the lady left.
As she is going back the same guy appears infront of her.
"Joaquin, will you please move so I can go back to my house" Y/n said a bit annoyed, but the guy just steps closer to her which made her look small against the person infront of her.
"Oh look at you Y/n, you look so tired from carrying those crates, women are weak, you should leave work like this to big strong men like me while you go and cook our dinner and take care of our kids" Joaquin said as he flexes his muscles.
"Our?" Y/n is in disbelief at how thick this guy's skin is.
"Oh come on, don't you picture it hermosa, You and me living in a house with 6 little me running around it" Joaquin is now holding Y/n close to him, his hands were on her waist.
"Uh no, can you please let go of me now" Y/n is now squirming to be freed from Joaquin's grasp but it seems to tighten everytime.
"But were not finished yet, I was just getting to part where I would ask you to be my wife." Y/n is still squirming away from him
"What?! No let me go already" Y/n is struggling but Joaquin seems to not notice or he just doesn't want to stop what he is doing regardless if Y/n is hurting or not.
"But amor–" he was cut off with a hand on his shoulder.
"Hey señor , the lady already said to let go of her." The familiar yellow ruana is seen. Camilo Madrigal—the eldest grandson of the Familia Madrigal, a magical family in charge of the encanto.
"Mind your own business buddy" Joaquin puts you down and faced Camilo
"As someone who's responsibility is protecting and helping everyone in this village, this is my business. Now I'd ask you to politely leave the young lady alone before my Abuela finds out about this" Camilo calmly warns the guy and Joaquin seems to be intimidated.
Who wouldn't be, Camilo is apart of a well-respected family and not only that, they basically rule the encanto plus they have magical powers for god's sake, so if anyone tries to mess with who knew what will happen.
Joaquin without a word left. Camilo then checks up on you to see if you are hurt.
"Hey I'm okay, he didn't do anything" Y/n assures the man infront of her.
"Didn't do anything, that guy is touching you everywhere, and you're saying that you're okay?" Camilo's faced is red from the anger he felt when he saw you in the arms of Joaquin
You, his fiancé, the woman who is already bethroted to him, in the arms of someone who is not him, of course he is mad.
"Stop being jealous Camilo, let's just head back to my house." Y/n kissed his cheeks and his anger seems to fade almost immediately.
"Great idea, and also take a shower, I can smell Joaquin's stench from your clothes" Camilo gagged jokingly and Y/n hit him.
"Also you owe me a cuddle for saving you earlier" Camilo added
"Yes yes, mi amor, you'll get your cuddles when we get home."
And the couple walks back to Y/n's house hand in hand.
Gosh I don't know how to write anymore, anyway hope you enjoy this short story. I'll be making more later, have a great day/night.
