At last, the fourth wdtajn entry for the song theme. Did I go all the way to draw a painfully tiny rat orchestra because Carmina Burana is pretty much the only musical piece I'm playing at my orchestra? Yes.
With that said, I truly enjoyed the wdtajn event, I drew things I never would have drawn otherwise and I'm so glad for the experience and for seeing so much new Encanto content :D

Camilo: I love cheating. If you don't cheat, what the hell is wrong with you?
Dolores: Have you ever been cheated on?
Camilo: ...I forgot some people are in relationships. To clarify, I love to violate integrity on exams.

Madrigal Kids (minus Antonio because I JUST COULDN'T GET HIM TO LOOK RIGHT)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally tried putting them in their film clothes, but eventually decided to screw it and do a modern AU
Annoyed with myself for not being able to find the right body type for Lusia
There was no option for green glasses so I had to give Mirabel gold ones
There were also no options that looked right for Dolores' hair so I put it down
Other than those nitpicks I LOVE THEM

You wear yellow and yoyr mistaken to be a twin
@vaguewaves she started this story and she's amazing for helping me with a few other stories this week
Stop stealing my kid
Pepa was cuddled up with Felix on their sofa in the living room in early December. The fire was simmering, and there was a small drizzle outside as a small amount of melancholy was washing over her, she wasn't fully sure why but it might be due to her newest little miracle she was sheltering in her womb. Felix kissed her bump which was just starting to show this week.
She looked over her shoulder then whispered "I wish my brother was here... he could tell us the gender of our little one, and we could have a party."
Felix sighed and squeezed her hand, rubbing his thumb along hers gently. He knew no advice he could offer would be satisfying for her, as the deep loss his wife felt wasn't something he could heal. All he could do for now was just let her let it out.
After a brief moment of quiet, he spoke up again. "I think it will be another little girl."
"I don't think I would mind this time, but it would be nice for Cami to have a little brother."
The skies went milder as she thought about it.
A ten year old Mirabel poked her head round the corner into the living room, her hair was covered in petals as she had secretly been playing in her sister’s room. Her mum and her sisters were out on the town preparing for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, but Mira stopped wanting to go and help with stuff like that since she barely got to do anything when she did go.
"Tía!" She exclaimed and ran up, almost jumping on her before she remembered the baby and stopped quickly, using her tio’s shoulder for balance. ”Can I sit on your lap?"
Pepa nodded and got comfortable before opening her arms and Mira clambered into them, enjoying the kind and warm presence of her aunt.
"Have you been in your sister’s room again? I hope you didn't make a mess Mira, you know she doesn't like that."
"But my room is boring..." She mumbled and looked down a bit sadly.
Pepa lifted Mira's chin up "I'm sure we can find something to do there. Want me to come up with you?"
The little girl’s eyes lit up at the chance to play games with her Tía, she basically catapulted herself out of Pepa’s lap  and ran so fast to the stairs that she tripped but luckily Casita cushioned her fall. Mira quickly got back up and clambered up the stairs on all fours.
When the pair entered Mirabel's room Pepa saw her sewing machine, but no fabric. lots of failed pieces that mirabel couldn’t manage to salvage that were now subsided to test scraps.
"See Tia there's nothing in here to do! I ran out of materials to sew with and even then I can't make anything, all the dresses I've tried to make I keep messing up. Either the measurements are off or I mess up the stitch and can’t fix it,” Mirabel complained
“I could show you a thing or two, if you want mi sobrina, believe it or not I know how to make clothes, and most of my dresses that I wear like this one,” Pepa said twirling in front the girl, “I made myself,”
“Wow! you made this for real? I could never do something so extraordinary by myself. Can you show me? please please please!” Mirabel asked, jumping up and down tugging a bit at Pepa’s yellow dress.
“That’s a three pesos word mi vida, and I wouldn’t call this extraordinary. I made it when I was around Isabela’s age and it’s far from perfect,” Pepa said lifting up the edge of her skirt to show Mirabel the crooked seams that are around the bottom.
“But you don’t see that though, it’s on the floor next to your feet, i always mess up on the middle, where the top part comes up to connect with the skirt, and the sleeves are always uneven,” Mirabel told, telling her Tia where she messed up the most.
“Well, I can teach you some things, but we need to get some materials to work with, what do you say about a trip to Senora Alejandra’s for some fabric and threads?” Pepa asked,
“Can we?” Mirabel asked, unsure. what she was unsure about she had no idea but that quickly left when her aunt nodded.
“Let me get my espadrilles from my room and we’ll go” Pepa told, Mirabel quickly got down on the floor to find her own espadrilles as Pepa took a short walk to her room to get her own.
Once they both got their shoes on they made their way downstairs to let Felix know they were heading out.
“Do you want me to come with so I can carry things for you?” Felix asked, knowing if Pepa went anywhere with her youngest niece she was going to get spoiled and they would come home with bags and bags full of all kinds of things. Pepa would get some things for the baby, and Mirabel would buy as much fabric as Pepa would allow her to buy, and lord knows if those two went in Osvaldo’s; they would come out with a huge basket of sweets and candies of all kinds.
“That'd be nice, a little shopping before I teach Mirabel how to make all kinds of gorgeous dresses and skirts,” Pepa said, pulling her husband off the sofa.
They grabbed their jackets from the hook at the door and headed out, making the walk first to Senora Alejandra for their fabric needs.
In town square where Julieta was working at her stand, she looked up for a moment to see her sister and Felix taking Mirabel to Alejandra’s shop. Julieta smiled warmly at this. Her baby girl spending time with her aunt before her baby cousin’s born and taking up all of Pepa’s time.
Mirabel was a typically happy kid, but after her gift ceremony she lost a lot of her happiness. Julieta had figured out that Pepa somehow brought out the happy little girl Julieta had known for the first five years of Mirabel’s life. How, she had no idea, but Pepa just had this bright and fun personality that made even the harshest winters feel warm.
After an hour in Alejandra’s they walked into Osvaldo’s. Before Felix ushered them out, Pepa seemingly steaming out the ears with a rumbling thunder cloud hanging over her head  and Mirabel shyly hidden behind the pair. Julieta could only assume Osvaldo had opened his mouth and said too much and pissed Pepa off for taking little jabs at Mirabel whenever he could.
The trio walked toward Julieta’s stand to say hello before heading home, Felix carrying two large rolls of fabric while Mirabel held the bag of threads. Pepa had a small envelope in her hand that contained needles for Mirabel’s sewing machine.
“Mija, it’s good to see you! what are you and Pepa up to today?” Julieta asked leaning down to kiss her youngest’s cheeks all while hearing those shrill little giggles and squeals she loved so much.
“i’m going to teach her how to make dresses and properly take measurements,” Pepa answered as Mirabel stole an arepa from the covered basket.
“That’s good, it’ll give her something to do so she can stay out of this cold weather,” Julieta said, knowing Mirabel was slightly more susceptible to the seasonal cold.
“It surely will mi hermana, come on Mirabel, let’s go,” Pepa called Mirabel to leave before she ate anymore of her mother’s healing food.
“Adios mi bebe, I’ll see you at home,” Julieta called as she watched her sister and daughter practically skip back to casita, full of excitement and joy.
When they returned home Mirabel and Pepa went back to Mirabel’s room with all of their supplies.
“How about we start with something easy, say a new nightgown for you. we can use the light cotton here to make it and I can show you how to do the measurements,” Pepa suggested, pointing out a light yellow cotton material.
“Ok, and once I can do it by myself, then I can make cooler stuff from this fabric, right?” Mirabel asked, pointing to a roll of bright yellow fabric that looked similar to Pepa’s dress.
“Right, but for now let’s take your measurements,” Pepa said, pulling the light blue measuring tape from the cloth bag near Mirabel’s feet.
“To start, we’ll do your height,” Pepa said gently pushing Mirabel against the wall to have her stand straight to accurately measure her. she took a piece of paper from mirabel’s desk and wrote down the measurement.
“next your chest, for girls we do two, it’s called bust and upper bust. For the upper, you want to go right under your collarbone and make sure the measuring tape is under your arms,” Pepa explained, placing the tape around Mirabel. She wrote that measurement down and moved on to the bust measurement.
“This measurement you want to go around the fullest part of your chest. Usually if you lay the tape over your buds, that is usually the fullest part, sometimes it can be higher but mostly it goes right across your buds,” Pepa explained as she aligned the tape.
After about twenty minutes pepa was showing mirabel how to cut the fabric, and then she showed Mirabel how to do the bottom hems and how to flatten the seams so they weren’t irritating. She showed Mirabel how to do the collar and then how to put it all together. giving her little pieces of advice to help her.
When Julieta came home, Mirabel ran downstairs in a little yellow nightgown, and if it weren’t for Mirabel telling her excitedly that she made it, she would’ve assumed it was one of Dolores’s old ones.
“you made this? it looks gorgeous,” Julieta complimented, making Mirabel look even happier than before.
If she was being honest Julieta couldn’t believe Mirabel had made a nightgown on her own.
Mirabel skipped off to go change, even though she didn’t want to as Pepa walked into the kitchen with her hair tied in a bun  and her glasses resting on her forehead.
“All by herself. I cut and made one to show her and then she followed my instructions as she did it on her own,” in a few years she’ll be sewing dresses like crazy,” Pepa said as she sat at the table.
Weeks followed, and Pepa continued to teach Mirabel many sewing techniques. By February Mirabel was walking around town in a yellow dress she made.

By Mirabel’s 11th birthday, she only ever wore the yellow dresses she made, which with Mirabel spending lots of time with her Tia made sense.  But over time people began to call Mirabel Pepa’s daughter, which started to annoy Julieta.
More time passed and as pepa was nearing her due date it seemed that mirabel was being called camilo’s twin. with many of the fall babies being needing a babysitter camilo had recruited mirabel to help since both of them loved all the kids, and mirabel wearing her yellow dresses every day, made it look like the two young madrigals were twins.
by the evening when all the kids were in their rooms julieta was preparing tea while pepa sat at the table.
“... and everyone is calling them the madrigal twins, it’s crazy hermano,” agustin said as he and felix came in after chopping wood for julieta.
“pepa, could you talk to mirabel or something and get her wearing blue again, everyone’s confusing her as being yours since she’s wearing those yellow dresses, plus its a little annoying when people think your child is your sister’s, remember when dolores and isabela wanted to match and people began to think dolores was my daughter,” julieta requested, reminding pepa of the summer isabela and dolores wore matching blue dresses all summer long and everyone was starting to think dolores was actually isabela’s sister.
“of course mi hermana,” pepa said getting up and beginning to walk toward the stairs
“oh and by the way could you stop stealing my kid,” julieta teased
“only if you promise not to try to take mi bebe as your own,” pepa said back walking up the stairs.
“fine,” julieta yelled rolling out the dough for the bunuelos.
Hope you enjoy ❤

Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 8 - Luisa and Camilo
Tumblr media
They didn’t have much screentime together but I know their dynamic: The straight, serious one (Luisa) and the comical, wise guy (Camilo). Don’t get me wrong Camilo will do his chores without fuss but he’ll usually joke around while Luisa will remain ever focused and forward. Despite that, they both get along very well because while they may seem different at first glance Luisa is more mellow when not working and Camilo is surprisingly sensitive and thoughtful when needed. I also personally headcanon that because of the height difference, Camilo had a habit as a child (and still does) of climbing onto Luisa’s shoulders for a ride; she barely minds it. And given Luisa’s protective attitude and Camilo’s young age, I think she sees him as younger brother who she will always protect. For Camilo, he admires Luisa’s dedication and dutifulness and thinks she has the coolest muscles. Needless to say, I think they both have a very funny but wholesome dynamic. And they have one important trait that really makes their bond: Both are middle kids in their respective siblings groups who have identity issues tied to their gifts but are very kind and attentive older siblings to their respective younger siblings (Luisa to Mirabel, Camilo to Antonio). I like to think that because of that similarity, Camilo would go to Luisa for advice on how to be a proper big sibling to Antonio, valuing her opinion. And she would go to him for advice (mainly after the events of the movie) on how to better relax and take things easy.

Isabela : Wait, hold up, why you draw yourself like that?  Luisa: Uh, like what?  Isabela : Like with gorgeous, muscular legs.  Luisa : Uh, this is what I look like.  Isabela : … Luisa: THIS IS WHAT I LOOK LIKE!  Isabela : Okay, then I want big beefy arms. Hot ones.  Dolores : I wanna have a cowboy hat!  Luisa: Okay, arms and hat. * draws them*  Camilo: Ooh, give me a cowboy hat too!  Luisa: You can't just take Dolores’s hat idea, Camilo! They thought it up all by themself like a good person! Come up with your own thing!  Camilo: BUT I WANNA LOOK COOL!  Mirabel : Put Camilo on one of those stupid baby tricycles.  Camilo: NO!!  Luisa: Tricycle, done. * draws it* Antonio , want anything?  Mirabel , making finger guns: Pew pew.  Luisa: A blaster?! No, that's not really our style, Antonio. Antonio , making finger guns: Pew pew.  Luisa: You know what, okay. * draws it* But it's just for holding, not for shooting.

Can we talk about how Dolores heard Bruno between the walls every day and she told everyone and they were like "what? The super hearing child hears something? No, can't be."
