Daminette December 2023:9-Gremlin

"So there is a list for each of them." Marinette explained, "Allergy information, bedtime schedule, food they avoid, and emergency phone numbers."

"We are the emergency phone numbers." Jason interjected.

Marinette glared at him as Damian put down the duffel bag with the kids clothes and a diaper bag.

"Marinette, everything will be fine." Dick spoke calmly, "You both deserve a night out with out your kids."

"Yeah." Tim stated, "How long was your last date night that didn't involve a diaper change intermission or passing out on the couch?"

Marinette frowned, but Damian placed a kiss on top of her head.

"Angel, don't worry so much. Amaya, Jun, and Malik are in capable hands." Damian stated.

"Aw." Dick cooed.

"If anything happens to our children, I'll kill them in their sleep." Damian declared.

Jason sighed, "You both are making such a big deal about this! You are leaving them in Wayne Manor, one of the safest places in Gotham. We take care of a whole city; we can take care of our nieces and nephew. You're only going to be gone three hours max, depending on traffic and resturant service. You're not even leaving Gotham!"

"Jason's right." Tim explained, "Look, there's three of them and three of us. We can conquer and divide this. If you two can do it, us three can, too."

Marinette sighed, "Fine. Have fun."

Once they got into the car, Damian turned to her.

"You think they will call us?" He questioned.

Mari smiled, "No. They would have to put their pride aside for that. I'm sure they will do everything wrong."

Damian chuckled, "Well, Habibiti, let's go and enjoy our dinner."

"Man, it's like she doesn't trust us!" Jason complained.

"To be fair," Tim interjected, "we have never watched them by ourselves. Damian and Marinette are usually in the same room with us when we spend time with them."

Dick looked over Amaya, Jun, and Malik. They looked so different, but appeared so angelic. Suffice to say the Waynes freaked out when Amaya was born was an understatement. Amaya looked just like Talia, but Tom also had brown hair and green eyes, so he took the credit for his granddaughter having his appearance with Damian's skin tone. Jun looked just like Damian and Malik looked just like his mother. Dick's only worry was Malik. Malik was still only a years old. Amaya was six and was already in the first grade and Jun was in preschool, but he was sure that Amaya and Jun could help with tiny things.

"I'll take care of Malik." Dick offered, "Divide and conquer, just like you said."

"Have you read these lists?" Jason laughed, "Don't let Jun eat after 7PM and her bedtime is 7:30PM. Don't get Malik wet; not even a drop. Don't expect him to sleep when the others go to bed. Amaya's says to supervise when she color and her bed time is at 8PM."

"No water?" Dick questioned.

"Not to spill water on him." Tim sighed, "Just be careful when you bottle feed him. At least there's no bath time on there. I'll watch Jun and Jason can watch Amaya. He can read and she can color. Simple."

Damian and Marinette entered Wayne Manor to find the living room in chaos. It was 10PM and all three of their kids were still awake.

"What is going on here?" Marinette shouted.

Everyone froze.

"Maman! Baba!" Amaya and Jun shouted, running up to their parents.

Damian glared at his older brothers, "Why aren't they asleep? Marinette gave you specific instructions."

"Why is Malik wearing different socks and different clothes?" Marinette questioned.

"He spilled a drop, a drop, of water on his sock!" Dick complained, "He freaked out and wouldn't stop crying until I changed him. By that point, he was thirsty and then he spilled on his shirt. I changed him immiediately after that."

"That's why I said not to get water on him." Marinette sighed.

"I can see Amaya wasn't supervised." Damian declared, "I wonder how Father will feel about his new colorful mural at hip height."

"Blame Jason!" Tim cried out, "He was suppose to watch her, but he got too wrapped up in his book."

"Why aren't you asleep, Amaya?" Marinette asked their eldest daughter.

"Not comfy." she pouted.

Jason sighed, "She kept saying how the couch wasn't as comfy as her bed."

"Why didn't you let her sleep in your bed?" Damian growled.

"You want me to leave my neice in my room?" Jason shouted, "You know what I keep in there!"

Damian rubbed his forehead in frustration. He spotted Jun running laps around the living room.

"And Jun?" he questioned.

"Tim helped me with Malik when he was flailing around and I was trying to change him." the eldest Wayne admitted.

"And?" Mari snarled.

"We thought it would be okay to leave them alone for a moment." Tim whispered, "Amaya and Jun were watching a movie."

"What happned?" Damian demanded.

"She snuck into the kitchen and ate four cookies." Tim answered, "She's been burning off the sugar ever since."

"Sorry." the Wayne boys declared.

"Amaya, Jun." Mari called out, "I want all of your things put away in the bag, "Damian make sure everything is in there. I'm going to get Malik in his car seat and meet you outside. Both of you are going to bed when we get home. Jun, no cookies for you for a week."

Jun stomped her foot and began to pick up her toys in a sour mood.

"A week?" Dick whined, "It was a mistake that we made."

"No, Richard." Mari declared, "Jun knew she wasn't suppose to have any cookies before we got here. I spoke to her about it before we left."

Mari walked out the front door with Malik in her arms. Amaya and Jun made quick work of their belongings. Amaya waved to her uncles as she yawned and walked out the door. Damian held his second daughter's hand and the duffel bag. Jun sadly waved and walked out the door, pouting.

"Those three are gremlins." Jason stated.

"Sweet like their mother and a Hellraiser like their father?" Tim answered.

"Nope." Jason replied, "Like actual Gremlins, like the movie. Don't get them wet. Don't feed them after dark."

"It was don't get them wet, avoid bright lights, and don't feed them after midnight." Dick rebutted, "Those three love the park. Damian and Marinette take them all the time with Titus."

"And the other two?" Tim questioned.

"We should have listened to Marinette rules." Dick answered.

The three sighed.

Damian and Marinette smiled as their kids slept in the back of their car.

"You were right, Habibiti." Damian spoke, "They are asleep and likely my brothers' will be trying to get back in our favor. How about we go out for dinner same time next month?"

Marinette giggled, "I'd love too."

Happy Pride Gotham! For Pride this year you might have noticed Bruce's shirts this week or the fact that we managed to paint all our cross walks like a Pride flag. You might have also noticed the Bat's choices in capes, thank you Red Robin for your Bi Flag cape.

I will give it to Bats though, and my brother Jamie's partner Malik. Malik got Batman to help them safely to the top of Wayne Tower so he could propose.

~ The Jester (Jack Napier): When Thomas Wayne Sr.’s illegitimate 10 year-old son Jack Napier witnesses the tragic deaths of the entire Wayne family by the hands of the lone gunman Joe Chill within Gotham City’s notorious “Crime Ally”, he soon went insane while also developing a particularly severe case of Dissociative Identity Disorder (a.k.a. “Split-Personality Disorder”) as he’s soon sent to Arkham Asylum for treatment where he is soon treated by the loving, caring and supportive & somewhat motherly child psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel, as he soon convinces her to become vigilantes together with a rather strange sence of justice, as he won’t rest until he gets his revenge and to save the dark and bloodied streets of Gotham City from itself.

Daminette December 2022: 5-Storybook

NOTE: This is a LONG post and is based off Princess Mononoke by Studio Ghibli. If you have not seen it, the movie will be SPOILED below!!!!

There once was a prince named Ashitaka. His village was attacked by what they believed to be a disgusting demon. The grass around it died. The woods, rotted. No one dared to touch it. The prince fought and used his bows and arrows to defeat the beast, but a part of his arm was touched by the beast. As the prince shot the beast, it was revealed to be a Boar God.

"A boar?" a boy questioned.

Marinette looked at her son, "A giant wild pig who lives in forests."

The boar cursed the humans and the prince, right before he died. Prince Ashitaka was seen by the wise sage. She told him he was cursed, laying a giant ball of metal in front of him. She explained the ball had caused the boar to rampage and curse him. He would have to leave the village and travel a great distance to find the source. She told him, the curse would make him strong, but it could also kill him. The prince named someone else as the village's leader and left.

"Why did he give up being a prince?" Malik asked.

"In case if he didn’t come back." Marinette frowned.

Ashitaka found a monk during his travels. The monk told him he might be able to get help from the Great Forest Spirit.

"What did the forest spirit look like?" the boy asked, rubbing his eyes.

"It looked like a deer, but only during the morning. That was when it was a God" She answered, "At night, it turned into a giant. It's footprints could create new ponds and lakes."

There once was a girl, who lived in the forest. Her name was San. She lived with the wolves. She helped protect the forest and the animals in it.

"Like Daddy?" Malik questioned.

"Almost." Marinette giggled, "While your daddy loves animals, the forest had animals Grandpa wouldn't let Daddy keep."

Malik laughed.

This was the first time Ashitaka met San. He was rescuing people that San was fighting against. They were from a nearby village. Their leader was named Lady Eboshi. She shot the wolf goddess, Moro. It was also the same time he saw a peek at the Great Forest Spirit.

"Why was San fighting other people and why did the mean lady shoot the wolf?" Malik asked.

Marinette smiled, "Remember, San is protecting the forest. As for the lady, we'll find out more about her as the story continues."

"But why was San protecting the forest?" Malik seemed confused.

"The forest had magic." his mother spoke.

"Magic? Grandpa doesn't like magic." the youngest Wayne replied.

"I know, but all magic isn't bad." Mari answered, "This magic protected a secret and she protected it. She kept all people out of the forest."

"But she was in it." he whined.

Ashitaka and the people he saved, went to the nearby village. It was a village full of outcasts and sick people. They were helping Lady Eboshi build weapons; guns. While Ashitaka was there, he learned that those people destroyed forests to find the metal to make the weapons. They were the ones who had hurt the Boar God. Lady Eboshi admitted to shooting the God, turning him into the demon that attacked his village. The former prince asked about the wolf girl. Eboshi called her Princess Mononoke; she was raised by wolves and hated humans.

"Like Tarzan or Mowgli!" he said, excited, "They adopted her, like Grandpa does!

Marinette smiled, understanding the reference from Dick's demand to watch Disney movies. Mari had to stop herself from laughing when Bruce got involved.

"Yes." she answered, "Just like that."

Now, the Wolf Princess got into the village and tried to kill the lady. Ashitaka took it upon himself to stop their fight. During the fight, one of the villagers shot him. Thanks to the curse, he was able to carry San out of the village. When she woke up, she tried to kill the former prince. He said two words to her and she stopped. During the night, he was healed by the Forest Spirit, so she decided to trust him.

"What did he tell her?" Malik questioned.

"You're beautiful." Marinette answered.

"That stopped her?" he asked.

"She had never been called beautiful before." his mother declared, "She didn't know how to react."

The boar clan decided to get revenge for their God and attacked the village. Unfortunately, the boar leading the charge was blind. The villagers were able to kill the rest of the clan and disguised themselves as another boar. The blind boar was really hurt. The villagers tricked him and told him to go to get healed by the Great Forest Spirit. San tried to stop the boar, but he was in a lot of pain and slowly turning into a demon. When they got to the pool, the spirit set Moro and the blind boar free. Night settled and the Forest Spirit began to transform into the giant. Eboshi quickly cut off the spirit's head and the monk stole it. Anything the body the touched, it killed the land.

"Like at the beginning of the story." Malik interrupted.

"Yes." Marinette frowned.

The forest and the magic began to die. The Wolf Goddess' briefly came alive and bit off Eboshi's arm in revenge. Upset, San tried to started to fight with Eboshi again. Ashitake stopped San and helped her grieve. He told her not to give up. Ashitake and San decided it was better to go after the monk and get the Forest Spirit's head back. The monk had wanted it for money. The Forest Spirit, unfortunately, died, but his body also healed the land and lifted Ashitaka's curse. The former prince decided to stay in the village and rebuild it better with Lady Eboshi. He promised San he would visit her in the forest. Soon, the forest began to regrow and the magic returned, slowly.

"Over time, they passed away and were reborn into new people. It was a coincidence that they met at a martial arts tournament. The prince was overconfident in his abilities, as he had trained from a young age. He thought he could easily win." Marinette continued.

"The girl won?" Malik questioned.

"Yep." his mother smiled, "When she put the bo staff to his neck, he looked at his opponent and called her beautiful. Suddenly, they both fainted."

"Were they okay?" he asked.

"Yes. They remembered their past life together. They remembered the forest and the magic." she answered, "When they woke up, their families had surrounded them. They had been so worried when she suddenly collapsed and neither of them had moved. To every ones confusion, the girl got up and kissed the boy she had won against."

"I have lived a thousand lifetimes to find you again." the boy stated.

"And I would live a thousand more to have one more chance." she replied.

"What is going on?" a friend asked.

"We remember our past lives with each other." the boy answered.

"This time," Marinette spoke, "it was the boy who had grown up feral and vowed to protect the woods and animals. He said a part of himself must have remembered her."

Malik smiled, "Did they have any wolves this time?"

"No, but the boy had some dogs." she answered.

"Like Ace and Titus." he smiled.

"Yes." she replied.

"What happened to them?" Malik asked, "The prince and the wolf girl?"

"They lived far apart from each other so they decided to stay in contact." Mari declared, "When they were old enough, they got married."

"Who is getting married?" a voice spoke from the doorway.

"Daddy!" Malik shouted, running up to his father and hugging him.

Damian picked up his son and hugged him, tight. He then walked over to his wife and kissed her.

"Ew." their son voiced, sticking out his tongue.

Damian chuckled, "Who was getting married?"

"Mommy was telling me a story before bedtime." Malik answered, pointing at the book.

Damian looked at what book Marinette had in her hands, if you could call it that. It was hand written notes that had been laminated, so the pages wouldn't fade, and placed in a binder. It was the book they had both created to keep their story alive.

"What is going on?" someone shouted.

"I thought you were in love with Adrien." shouted a girl.

"Little D, who is she?" Dick asked.

"She's my other half." Damian answered.

"Demon Spawn," Jason groaned, "you're not making any sense. You've never even met her before!"

Marinette laughed, "I thought I was the demon between us."

"A lot has changed in a thousand years, My Love." the Wayne heir declared.

"A thousand years?" an elder woman asked.

"Damian," Bruce spoke up, "does this have anything to do with your mother?"

"No, Father." he replied.

"You could call us soulmates." Marinette responded, "Us fighting, him saying those words; we remembered everything since we last met."

He could see the doubt on many peoples' faces.

"When was that?" asked a blonde boy.

"Before technology." Mari answered.

"Firearms were a new invention." he continued.

"Humans still used fire and burned forests to solve their problems." his soulmate growled out.

He could only chuckle, "I became an advocate for the environment. I must have subconsciously remembered how much you love the forest."

Marinette giggled, "What else?"

"Father doesn't let me have exotic animals." he sighed.

"How exotic?" she questioned, leaning in.

"Panthers." he spoke, looking her in the eye.

"How about some wolves?" she teased.

"I have a dog." Damian smirked.

"Close enough." Marinette smiled, before kissing him again.

"Ah, that story." Damian spoke, "It's one of my favorites."

"Really?" Malik asked.

Damian nodded.

"We just finished reading the storybook and now, it's bedtime." Marinette declared.

"Do you think grandpa would let us have a wolf?" Malik questioned, looking hopeful.

Damian chuckled, "I've asked; the answer was no."

Their son pouted.

Marinette smiled, "That doesn't stop you from dreaming of wolves and being friends with them; even running with them."

"Can I meet a real wolf?" he pleaded.

Mrs. Wayne looked up to the ceiling, "If I remember correctly, there is a wolf preserve that allows people to meet wolves. It's in a different state."

"Where?" Damian demanded.

"I'll look it up, but I think the wolves were raised as dogs and when people realized it was a hybrid or a wolf, they were given up to shelters." she answered, "They're all domesticated so they didn't want to damage them any further or risk them getting hurt."

"Can we go see the wolves?" their son asked.

"Yes." Damian immediately answered.

"Can I ride it, like the wolf girl?" he questioned.

"I don't know about that." Mari smiled, "We can visit, but we can't keep it."

Malik pouted.

"I know." Damian spoke, "Your mother is as mean as Grandfather."

Marinette let out an overdramatic gasp, making her husband chuckle and their son laugh. Mari and Damian kissed their son goodnight and closed the door, behind them.

"Did you tell him the whole story?" he questioned.

"No." she replied, "I only told him bits and pieces. The story will get longer as he gets older. When he's old enough, he'll be able to read the whole thing and see out notes to each other."

Damian quickly snatched up his wife, gaining a tiny scream from her mouth. He smirked at her blushing red face. Marinette glared at his smug face.

"I'll cut your throat. That will shut you up!" she growled.

"You're beautiful." Damian replied.

Marinette whimpered and buried her face in the crook of his neck.

"I still don't know how you get me flustered with two words." she mumbled.

Damian smiled as he carried the Princess Mononoke book and his wife to their room.

The End of the World as We Know It: Tales of Stephen King’s The Stand

I am pleased to finally be able to announce THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT: TALES OF STEPHEN KING'S THE STAND, edited by myself and Christopher Golden -- an original short story anthology based on the highly influential and seminal work of apocalyptic fiction and good versus evil; featuring an introduction from Stephen King himself and new fiction from a world ravaged by the virus "Captain Trips" and the minds of Josh Malerman, Paul Tremblay, Richard Chizmar, S. A. Cosby, Tananarive Due, Alma Katsu, Caroline Kepnes, Michael Koryta, Joe R. Lansdale, Maurice Broaddus and Wayne Brady, Bryan Smith, Somer Canon, Hailey Piper, Jonathan Janz, V. Castro, Bev Vincent, David J. Schow, Gabino Iglesias, Meg Gardiner, Usman T. Malik, Cynthia Pelayo, Catriona Ward and many, many, many others. (Chris and I had the idea to make the anthology as big as the novel — I’m not going to list everyone because I want you guys to have more surprises between now and the release).

Thanks to Stephen King for entrusting Chris and I with this task. Honestly, we didn’t think you’d say “Do it!” nor did we think you’d say it so enthusiastically. You rock.

Now, since this announcement there have been many questions. With the understanding that for most of this past year, Chris and I have been working behind the scenes to make this happen, there is still a lot that we can’t say. But I will try to answer some of the more common questions here — from one Constant Reader to the other Constant Readers — and at more length than I have on social media.

Q: Who is the publisher? A: Gallery Books - a division of Simon & Schuster

Q: When will the book be available? A: Too early to give a firm date. My best guess is that it will be up for preorder around this time next year, with an early 2025 release date? But that is only my guess and should not be taken as gospel. Could be earlier. Could be later.

Q: If it won’t be out until then, why announce it now, you jerks? A: Because it’s been a crap year for many, and we thought perhaps horror fans and Stephen King fans could use a little bit of good news to brighten their days. Our apologies for trying to make things better.

Q: Will there be foreign language editions? A: Almost certainly.

Q: Will there be a signed, limited edition? A: It is too early to say. Keep in mind, we have not released the full list of contributors, but this is going to be a BIG book. Signature sheets would be a massive undertaking, as would production and printing costs. There are several small presses who could handle that. But that’s not something that is currently in the works. It has taken us most of the year just to get the line-up and the initial contracts sorted out.

Q: Are you open to submissions? A: We are not. And sadly, for those of you who sent us stuff yesterday when you saw this announcement, those were all deleted unread, for legal reasons. Our sincere apologies.

Q: Will you and Chris have stories in the book? A: No. Like we did with THE DRIVE-IN: MULTIPLEX, Chris and I don’t want to take up slots and space that could go to one of our peers. As we did on that anthology, we will simply serve as editors, and will guide and shape the overall project. Sure, we’d kill to write a story set in the world of THE STAND, but that wouldn’t be the right thing to do.

Q: Wayne Brady the comedian? A: Yes, Wayne Brady the comedian.

I think that takes care of most of the common questions. And now you all know why I’ve been singing “Among the Living” by Anthrax for most of 2023…

What is your favorite type of music? Furthermore, what music would your OCs like?

I personally love music with lots of bass, stutters, and fast paced. Phonk, early 2000's pop rock (like linkin park), screamo, witch trap (I think it's called) and rappers like Lil Darki and OmenXlll, I like that kind of music. On the other hand, I also like music that's calm and angelic such as "Tilekid - you not the same (slowed down verion)" on SoundCloud

I guess I like a wide variety cause its hard for me to choose my favorite. I don't have a specific type that I only listen to.

Comics this week?

Action Comics #1051 - Fantastic kick off to the Dawn of DC era for Superman. All of the Superfamily had a nice little character moment here, Kara welcoming the twins to the El family, Kon and Kenan have the makings of a great friendship/rivalry, Jon realizing his parents still have sex and feeling conflicted over the twins, the Irons' stepping up to change Metropolis with their genius, and unveilling a new tower bigger than Lexcorp's. Lois gets the article which sets the stage, and Clark of course remains the main character. His speech to the Superfamily in his apartment where he outlines his aim in bringing them together is classic Superman, and I'm usually not one for Superman giving speeches, but I loved that because it's him hyping his team to go out and kick some ass. Sandoval draws it all beautifully, the action scenes, the quiet moments, Lord let him stick around for a while and not get poached like Sampere and Federeci did. Nothing major with Metallo just yet, but his complaining about his skin grafts leaves me optimistic he won't be looking human for long.

Justice Society of America #2 - I'm becoming bored with this title quickly. Johns is seemingly only interested in Helena Wayne rather than the titular team itself, they mostly stand around getting killed off or gaping in astonishment as Helena infodumps. Giving it one more issue but then I'm out. Oh and "Justice Society Dark" is a stupid name, why not use the Sentinels of Magic Johns? You created that name!

Detective Comics #1068 - Ok Ram V you've finally hooked me. I love seeing Two-Face's inner war with himself, and I'm excited what comes next now that Two-Face knows Bruce is Batman.

One Bad Day: Catwoman - As a Catwoman story this was solid, but it failed to live up to brand name. If you're aiming to do a "Killing Joke" story for Selina, she should have been completely evil. For all it's failings, King's Riddler story understood the intent behind this brand, The Killing Joke completely redefined the relationship between Joker and Batman, while simultaneously pushing Joker beyond the pale in terms of what he was willing to do, and what his goals were. King's Riddler likewise showed Riddler tossing his old approach to being a villain, and doing so threw Batman off his game for once. This is just a bog standard Catwoman story. She wants to steal something, turns out she has a sympathetic motive for doing so, Batman says "don't", they flirt and kiss, and at the end Selina is... basically the same as ever. To really do a "Killing Joke" for her, this would need to be a story where Selina embraces being a villain, ruthlessly steals for selfish reasons, and steals in ways that are going to hurt innocents. Ending would be the BatCat romance dissolving for good, and Batman despairing that Gotham managed to finally drag her into the pit.

Human Target #11 - Turns out the femme fatale was the killer all along, who could have seen that coming. Great issue all the same, now we see if Chance actually dies next issue or if there's one last twist to come. He's the man who dies for other people as a living, can't decide whether it's more fitting for him to actually die or to pull one last con on death.

Lazarus Planet: We Once Were Gods -

Aquaman: Beautiful Manupal art, solid story. Could we maybe see Manupal write the next Aquaman ongoing?

Martian Manhunter: Odd plot but I enjoyed Watters voice for J'onn and I want to see a proper Martian Manhunter book from him.

Wonder Woman: Shocker I'm sure, but I liked the PKJ story. Didn't expect him to reference the clay origin, feels like some of the writers are trying to sneak it back into canon. If Gadot is finished as Wonder Woman perhaps DC might be considering restoring the old origin, since synergy wouldn't be holding them back anymore.

Shazam: Campbell did a good job as expected. What surprised me was that her Malik had a similar voice as Priest's, but minus some of the cringe that Priest gave him. Malik came across as a dweeb without being a cartoon, which makes him much more tolerable.

Blue Beetle: Graduation Day #3 - Not the Reach but an offshoot of the Reach called the Horizon are the ones planning to invade Earth? Or they've caught wind of the Reach planning another invasion attempt, and sent their own Beetles in an attempt to thwart them? Must admit to being confused on that point.

Sins of Sinister #1 - Good issue. Brings the focus back on Hickman's plots which has been missing for a while. The Moiras are in the hands of someone else, likely suspects are Destiny/Mystique, one of the other Sinisters, or the Sinisterized Quiet Council. But I'm leaning towards it being Moira XI, who is not shown to die alongside Nimrod. Moira XI using her clones to send knowledge of the future back to her past self - who then exposes the Sinisterized QC in the past and also uses the SoS timeline to get humanity afraid of mutants again - would be a way to make this timeline "matter" in terms of it having an impact on the "present".

Sabretooth & The Exiles #3 - Merely solid rather than transcendent the way the first two issues were. I am intrigued to see the payoff for that cliffhanger since I don't have a clue how that could happen.
