Queer artists like JoJo Siwa really do themselves and everyone else a disservice by acting like they are the first ones to make things about queerness. I’ll admit that explicitly queer music and media were not things that were readily accessible to me as a teenager but that doesn’t mean they didn’t exist. I think there’s something much more powerful in saying “I am apart of a legacy of creators in this community, I have opportunities they dreamed of because they fought for us to be able to have them, and I want to honor that by being open and proud in ways they weren’t able to” than to pretend like your work exists in a vacuum and that you have the groundbreaking idea to make queer media.

SOUTHERN COMFORT (2001)
dir. Kate Davis
The final year in the life of Robert Eads, a transgender man from the back hills of Georgia. "A hillbilly and proud of it," he cuts a striking figure: sharp-tongued, bearded, tobacco pipe in hand. Though his home is nestled among tranquil hills dotted with hay bales, Robert confronts a world hostile to him. He was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, then turned away by more than two dozen doctors who feared that taking on a trans patient might harm their practice. Beginning in spring, he falls deeply in love with Lola, a trans woman. That summer, his mother and father drive ten hours to visit their "lost daughter," a trip they know may be their last. His final dream is to make it to the Southern Comfort Conference in Atlanta, the nation's preeminent transgender gathering. Beating the odds, he addresses a crowd of 500 and takes Lola to "The prom that never was".

i really can't wait for my best boy's storyline in the next season but pls don't hurt him too much
like... it will be such a win for aroace people to finally have good representation in media and thanks to the notoriety of the show more people will learn about asexuality and aromanticism since many don't even know they exist and that ace and aro people are just as valid as anyone and they're part of the lgbt community too
