There's Such a Sad Love (Deep in Your Eyes) - Prologue
it's finally time, friends!! here is the first part to my ghost!eddie fic! I am planning on getting the first real chapter up tomorrow, and the rest as they are done! I'd like to have this done by halloween but we'll see if i continue to have the spoons for this story thanks for reading! 🙌🥰👻
pairing: steddie | rated: M | on AO3
CWs for this chapter include: mentions of suicide/ideations as part of chrissy's backstory, and depictions of violence but nothing graphic!
Tumblr media
He’s spoken with her a lot since he died, the Moon.
She’s lovely, beautiful, bright, and loves her monsters (Eddie still doesn’t quite know what that means, are monsters real? …Well…he is a ghost now…).
She was the first one he cried to when he realized what had happened to him, why it did.
Chrissy was his better half, his soulmate, his sister, his best friend.
He’d found her afterwards, his first thought being how could he have not known? He could understand anyone else not knowing, not knowing her like he did, but even he didn’t know.
He’d found her letter just as her boyfriend found him.
Eddie replays his last few minutes on the mortal plane over and over again in his head in the years afterwards, starting with the front door to his trailer being blown open in the wake of Jason Carver’s entrance…
“Carver! Jason, I–I’m so sorry…”
“What’d you do to her, freak?”
“What? Nothing! I’d never—I just found her letter—”
He can remember that he was hit in that moment, struck across the face lightning fast, but he can no longer remember the pain.
Probably a good thing too, for what was to come.
“Oh yeah, sure, like anyone’s going to believe that.”
Another hit.
Another.
Another.
Over and over again until eventually, Eddie’s memory goes sideways; his sight is blurry, but clear enough to tell he was now on the floor.
He’s faced towards Jason’s legs, watches as they shuffle and bend to pick up something.
Wait, Eddie was holding something earlier wasn’t he? Something important?
His vision starts fading out, still watching as Jason’s legs back away from him, then turn sharply to run out the open door.
Tired, Eddie succumbs to the darkness; his last thought being that Wayne was going to be the one to find them both.
“A tale as old as time, I suppose.” he had told the moon one night of the thousands he must’ve been through at this point, “Blame the Freak, right?”
Her words of love and encouragement normally helped soothe his soul, but there were some nights where he just couldn’t let the injustice go, it wasn’t fucking fair!
In the end, Jason got second degree murder. Eddie got a plain wooden box.
His uncle was left alone and heartbroken.
Jason only served a fraction of the time he was supposed to.
Eddie never graduated high school, never got out of this shitty town, never got the chance to make something of himself.
He had never fallen in love.
Now, he was stuck in limbo. Stuck haunting the empty trailer (he doesn’t blame Wayne for leaving), then the empty plot where it’d had once been, and now he’s the new Forest Hills Estate’s resident poltergeist.
Admittedly, kinda metal. When he was alive, he might’ve thought it’d be badass to one of the tortured souls he used to enjoy reading about.
Now it’s just torturous.
It’s been 38 years of hell.
Three of people breaking in and stealing mementos of the trailer ‘that poor girl’ died in.
They didn’t even say her name.
Ten of watching his home crumble around him before eventually getting torn down on purpose, to try and rid Hawkins of ‘that boy what did her in’.
They don’t dare say his name.
15 of watching the whole trailer park fall to disrepair; everyone else leaves, saying they hear sobs carried on the wind at night.
In 2001, the land the Forest Hills trailer park was on is sold off and construction starts.
Eddie laughs with the Moon when he sees walls start to go up around him, a moment of sardonic reprieve.
“Is the town’s memory that short? Don’t they know this is where it all happened?” he asks her, but she was just glad he’d have a roof over his head again.
Joke’s on him, though, it wasn’t the town that built there, it was some private company that didn’t know the history. The town knew. They remembered. And no one bought the place (even with as large and lovely as the home was).
In the 23 years it was left standing empty, he’d had loads of fun messing with the teens who’d come around every fall. Daring each other to just go up to the door, to ring the bell, even to just step up the first step.
Sometimes they managed to get in, and those were the best times, especially on Halloween.
Eddie found himself corporeal every October 31st. Some years he’d just answer the door nonchalantly when someone knocked, knowing full well his bruised and bloody appearance really added to the effect.
Some years they’d come the day before, and those were the best. He wasn’t fully “a person” again yet, just a solid black shadow.
His power grows in the months leading up to the 31st, and he uses the extra juice to scream and wail, to throw shit around…it adds to the story a bit, though he’s realized in the last few years that the kids who come around looking for thrills don’t even know what he and Chrissy went through.
The first time he’d heard that, he’d nearly thrown a couple kids out a second story window in his rage.
Finally, one day in late winter while wandering the grounds, testing the limits of his haunting range as if they’d suddenly expanded out any farther overnight, he sees the bright red SOLD sign at the end of the driveway.

Im sorry, but what is this obsession with turning robin Dick into a angry monster? He wanted to kill the guy who killed his parents and that makes him bad? Because I’ve wanted to kill people for a lot less so *wipes sweat from brow* oh no.
Was Robin Dick deranged? Yes. Psychotic, bonkers, had a couple dozen loose screws? ABSOLUTELY YES!
But was he also sweet, awe-inspiring, caring, and happy? Duh!! He was the first child hero bro! Ofcourse he was. He had to be because he was a child hero born in the 40s and they might’ve been depressed as hell but they sure ain’t gonna show that on the outside!
Late teens Dick was a dangerous, flaming hot, fashion designer bag of rage and stress and he’s fucking valid for that because Bruce kicked him out because he was worried and jealous. I wouldn’t know where to throw that all rage either if that was me. Certainly not running a team of the best child heroes, unlike him- the crazy asshole.
And why. Why. WHYWHYWHWYHWYWHYYYYY ARE PEOPLE ALWAYS COMPARING JASON AND DICK?! If one exists the other cannot. Bro, they’re not a fucking coin. So WHY?!
Ok. Okay. Lets say that Dick had anger issues because he wanted to kill his parents’ killer. Then did Jason not have anger issues because he threw a drug dealer that had nothing to do with him off a roof to the man’s death thus leading to a fraught relationship between him and Batman until he died? No? Then fuck off!
Why does one have to be boxed into a category so the other can look better. Dick and Jason both developed anger issues but at two different times. Dick’s started when he and Bruce began feuding at 17. Jason started when he came back with a vengeance at 19. Oh. Would you look at that. They both got angry because of Batman at around the same age! What a coincidence. Perhaps writers did that because they needed them to move into a new story arc in their lives like what actual people do at 18.
And here’s the main thing. If Jason was a cute, innocent angel that became angry and temperamental after coming back from the dead, then why can’t you grant the same olive branch to Dick? How can you say that Jason had the capability of changing from robin to Redhood while Dick could not do the same for his Robin to Nightwing? Looking at the comics, Dick was super sweet (“Holy Batman!”) so why is it so hard to believe he changed too when Bruce ripped his family colors from him and threw him out on the streets because of his own jealousy and love.
So can we please, please change the fucking narrative here? The Golden Boy grew into a multifaceted single parent who has too many kids and is in charge of the whole world and The Cool Kid became an incredible crime fighting warlord who fights for Justice even in outer space. They’re both equally cool, right?
Now back to what I was saying -THEY ARE NOT WHO YOU THINK. The real angry kid here is Damian so why are you pushing that brand onto both of these two when they were nothing like that?!
That label-making factory should be shut down and sued for fraud because here’s how it is:
Dick - deranged, happy robin. The one you whip your head over your shoulder at to make sure you heard him correctly because he says the craziest shit in the most chirpiest of tones. He’ll set fire to a bad guy’s pants and walk back whistling to a secretly approving Batman (canon btw).
Jason - rational, boastful kid. The one you smirk at because the both of you saw someone egg a house who you know is owned by an asshole. He goes into battle fists first or he’ll hold back Batman when he’s gone too far (canon btw).
Tim - bruh no labels because what the fuck is he even. He’s a combo of Jason and Dick. He’ll say something that’s crazy but in a completely calm voice so you dismiss it or think he’s joking (canon btw).
Damian - rational, angry kid. The one where he’s angry but he’s cute and he means the best so you wanna wrap him in a blanket and throw him up in the air and laugh as he shrieks angrily on his way down. He’ll steal the bat sign and run around with it until Batman makes him put it back (canon btw).
So, in conclusion, because my English teachers taught me to end any essay with a concluding paragraph even though this sounds less like an essay and more like a stream of words from my consciousness - Jason and Dick were happy kids. Yes, Dick grew angry at 17 because Bruce wouldn’t let him stay with the titans and he fired him over a bullet wound but no, you cannot use Tony Zucco as his defining point.
Because, to be fair, you are not your past. Your past can shape you but it does not define you. Where you come from does not dictate who you will be. That depends on you and what you believe is right. And neither Dick nor Jason let their pasts define them. So don’t call either of them angry robins when they were both happy as possible.
Please give this some thought because having either one of them angry so young isn’t fun for anyone. Love to see them raging though. Give me wild, powerful Dick Grayson effortlessly whirling down dozens of enemies in a storm of electrical fury. Give me crazy, badass Jason Todd taking down men in a fiery blaze of a tornado given form. Give me that anger. Just not at fucking 8.

Prompt Idea:
Original post here cause I don’t know how to imbed links properly.
So I read this post basically about Danny Phantom being unable to get drunk. His core recognized alcohol as a dangerous substance, so the chemicals just don’t make it to his system. His core gets rid of it before it can do anything.
And I raise you, this: What if Danny wasn’t affected by anything that was made with potentially dangerous poisons or chemicals?
Danny is no longer affected by coffee, as much as it pains him. He can’t enjoy anything remotely spicy, as his core blocks out the capsaicin. Maybe he can’t have anything mint, either? Menthol is deadly in high doses, but Danny already died once. His core is not taking any second chances.
(On the plus side, Danny became the king of tide pods when that particular internet trend came about. He also drank bleach once on a dare from Red Huntress.)
Extra:
To combat the overwhelming lack of spice in his life, Danny goes out in search of new foods that he can actually eat. With guidance from Frostbite, he discovers the wondrous joys of ghost cuisine.
Ambient ectoplasm is all around Amity, so Danny has no issue “feeding” his ghost side. But as it turns out, the more solid type of ectoplasm-the goo stuff-can be used to substitute spices in various dishes. Each region of the GZ gives the ectoplasm its own unique taste, allowing Danny to experiment with this new form of cooking. And if you do it right, the food won’t even fight back!
After he learns to cook, Danny goes on a month-long trip every year. He visits most parts of the Ghost Zone and some parts of the mortal realm, just to refill his “Ghost Spices” so he doesn’t have to eat oatmeal for the rest of his afterlife.
Extra(x2):
The Lazarus Pit is like chocolate to ghosts.
The only reason is Jason feels like shit all the time is because he’s essentially been living off a five-year-old’s dream feast since he was revived. He’s been experiencing the ghostly version of a sugar crash for years now. Yeah, it might’ve been fine at first, but the angry crime lord with murder tendencies needs to eat his ghostly vegetables:(
Danny turns up, and forces the entire Batfam into a “healthier” eating style. Which kinda just means their food glows, now.

"It's in the past, it's all over."
Pairing: Jason Todd (Red Hood) x GN!Reader
Tumblr media
Type: Fluff
Warnings: swearing, death, torture, trauma
Summary: You try to comfort Jason as he is having nightmares of his past trauma. Jason, as stubborn as ever, won't open up to anyone, not even you, his lover. This same cycle has been repeating since he came back to life. You tried everything, even therapy, and on this one night, you decide enough is enough: he needs to let his anger and sadness out and talk about it.
______________________________________________________________
It's 2 AM, you can't sleep because you hear screaming from the other room: It's Jason. He's having nightmares again. "...Bruce!... I'm here!... Please save me... Please... someone!"
"No... get away from me you son of a bitch!... Bruce is gonna get here... I know it!... No please... Get the fuck away!..."
The same cycle has been repeating every night ever since you moved out with him. You know of his past as Robin, his death and of the time he adopted the Red Hood persona, so you don't blame him. You tried the whole therapy process to make him talk about it; it ended up being a waste of money. Jason has always been the type of person to keep everything to himself, even his feelings. He won't even share his feelings to you: his lover. It took him forever for him to say "I love you" back. Even if you knew he did love you deep down, you always wanted to hear him say it out loud.
Even though it's two in the morning and you have work in a few hours, you decide to go comfort him. A cup of coffee will solve everything; what's more important to you is comforting Jason.
"Hey, Jason? It's me." you say as you knock the door to his room. No response. You decide to open up the door and see Jason cuddled up in his bed, whispering for help. As much as you think this is a bad idea, you decide to wake him up. While you run your hand through his curly hair carefully, he suddenly wakes up and grabs your arm very tightly, fury in his eyes. You try to break free, but he's got your arm firmly with a dead pan expression on his face.
"Oh, it's just you." he sighs, realizing who he was holding. He lets go of your arm, gently touching it, fearful that he might’ve hurt you.
As he stands up from his bed, you sit next to him while caressing his back, concerned. You look at him, almost accusing him as he stares the floor.
"What is it? Talk to me." you sigh.
"I told you, it's nothing. Nothing of importance." he replies.
"And I told you that it is something if you scream your lungs out every night." you say while holding his hand. "When will you talk about it?" He doesn't respond. You decide to lean your head on his shoulder.
"I know it's about your death." you sigh as he immediately moves away from you. You continue: "I hear you begging for your life and hoping Bruce will come to save you. Every. Night. You have to talk about it. It'll get better, I promise. The Joker can't hurt you now, he's dead. It's all in the past, you know that, right?" He looks at you with teary eyes, on the verge of bursting into tears. You wipe them away and hug him.
"Talk to me, Jay. You helped me go through some tough shit while you were Robin, I want to return the favor while you're Red Hood."
He sighs and starts explaining: "I just... can't get it out of my head... him laughing while beating the living shit out of me... me hoping Bruce would come and save me... and Crane- all his manipulations killed my soul- and Hank- it was my fault! It's my fault he's dead! I-" You notice as his voice starts breaking and he starts freaking out. You interrupt him by grabbing his face softly.
"Jason, it's just me. You're okay. The Joker's dead, Crane is in prison. It's just me and you. Nobody else."
He continues with his explanation, calmed down: "The Titans will never forgive me for killing Hank, will they? I mean, why would they? They didn't even care when I died so why would they forgive me for killing one of their loved ones? They all hated me." he goes on, staring at the ceiling.
"You don't need their forgiveness. What did I tell you? It's just me and you." you answer while caressing his shoulder.
Felling somewhat better, he looks back at you with a smirk: "And you're all I need." he says in a seductive tone before reaching for a kiss. You engage back and both of you go on for a few seconds.
"I love you, Y/N. Thank you... so much." he says softly.
"You're welcome, Jay. Love you too." you add as you stand up.
"Alright, since the idea of sleeping is out of the question for the both of us, what if I went to go get some pizza and we watched movies until morning?" you ask with a smirk. He nods at you while changing his stance to a very attractive one while smiling. You kiss his forehead and leave the room.
______________________________________________________________
The two of you, as lovey-dovey as ever, watch a bunch of his favorite movies all night like you proposed. You eventually fall asleep on his shoulder while he continues watching the movie, holding your hand. He later tells you that this was the best night he's ever had in a while. You realize he has really started to warm up to you now and even started talking to you about his problems.
"Thank you, Y/N. For everything."

How Long Tim Drake First Lived at Wayne Manor (+ Drake Manor)
A reference guide and timeline, because I am an incurable nerd.
Tumblr media
Gotham Knights #45 [description in alt text]
From what I can figure from Tim’s pre-Flashpoint comics, Tim originally lived at Wayne Manor (after his mom’s death and his dad’s hospitalization) for about 7-9 months until his dad left the hospital. Then the Drakes bought the mansion next-door to Wayne Manor at Alfred’s suggestion, and they lived next-door for less than two years, then had to move downtown after losing money, where they then lived until Jack’s death.
Disclaimer: Due to the annoying nature of comics timelines, this summary will not account for how much time various major Batman storylines take. DC comics tend to take up a lot of time in an apparently small amount of time, which means this technically correct timeline might also make Knightfall, Contagion, and Cataclysm look like they all occured within like, a few months. This is DC’s fault and for the sake of this post I will not bother trying to make that make sense. You can decide how things fit together based on the information here.
Timeline details and references:
When Tim, age 13, first begins training to become Robin (after Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying, which is implied to occur during late summer/early fall), he’s mostly living at his boarding school just outside Gotham City while his parents are nearly always away traveling for business (Batman #441, #444-445). At some point, Tim begins staying at the Manor overnight sometimes when he’s not at school, probably over breaks or weekends (Detective Comics #615-616).
In (presumably) December, Tim (age 13) is already staying at Wayne Manor for vacation when his parents are kidnapped. Janet Drake dies, and Jack Drake is hospitalized in a coma (Detective Comics #618-621). Tim continues staying at Wayne Manor after their kidnapping. The kidnapping storyline doesn’t mention what vacation it is, but Janet’s funeral and him becoming Robin occur on Dec 24th, so it’s likely winter break (Batman #455-457).
Soon after his mom’s death, Tim goes abroad for additional training. He’s abroad for at least “a few weeks” (Robin Vol. 1 #1), and at the end of this trip is when Tim first encounters King Snake (Robin Vol. 1 #1-5).
In Batman #469, during which Tim is still living at Wayne Manor while his father is in a coma, Bruce runs into King Snake, who says it has been 6 months since his encounter with Tim in Robin Vol. 1. This means in-text statements now give us at least 6-7 months having passed since Janet died and Jack was hospitalized.
(Note: It’s possible for a while Tim also stayed at his boarding school for the rest of middle school, since he’d been staying there before. We never see him there after Janet died, though, and he was then shown studying in the Manor, so he might’ve stopped boarding early and just stayed at the Manor full time. This part is unclear, and it’s not specified if Tim has started high school in Batman #469. Either way, he was under Bruce and Alfred’s care, and spent a fair amount of time sleeping at the manor.)
Tim turns 14 and starts public high school at Gotham Heights while still living at Wayne Manor (Robin II: Joker’s Wild #1). Tim’s birthday is in July, and in the US, high schools usually start mid Aug/early Sep, so I’d wager that’s at least Dec-mid Aug of living in Wayne Manor (though he was abroad for a few unspecified weeks of that). If we take those date references, that’s at least 7-8 months. Tim’s also probably known the Waynes for around a year now, by my estimate (based on Jason death dates & time mentions in A Lonely Place of Dying).
Relatively soon after Robin II: Joker’s Wild, Jack Drake is released from the hospital and at Alfred’s suggestion they buy the house next door to Wayne Manor (Batman #480-482). Tim is 14 when they move into the new Drake Manor. They eventually hire a live-in maid, Mrs. Mac, to help in the house (Robin III #3). Tim still occasionally stays at Wayne Manor or other family properties (Robin Annual 2 + Robin v2 #3), but for the most part lives at Drake Manor.
While they live at Drake Manor, Tim temporarily runs away from home multiple times (to do Robin stuff, mostly). During the Cataclysm, Aftershocks, and No Man’s Land storylines, where an earthquake turns Gotham into a disaster zone, the Drakes almost sell Drake Manor and they move to Keystone City for a short time (Robin Vol. 2 #62). But after Tim runs away back to Gotham, they end up moving right back into Drake Manor again not long after they left (Robin Vol. 2 #66). The original Wayne Manor also gets destroyed and they rebuild it differently. Tim turns 15 during this time.
Jack Drake sends Tim (age still 15) to boarding school because of all the running away. Tim lives at Brentwood Academy with Alfred for less than a full semester (Robin Vol. 2 #75-100). During this time, Jack marries Dana Winters (Robin 80-Page Giant).
Drake Industries loses money so the Drakes have to sell their mansion, and Tim (15 almost 16) has to leave Brentwood early. They move into their condo in downtown Gotham, near Barbara’s clocktower (Robin Vol. 2 #100). Sometime after they move downtown, Tim turns 16 on July 19th (Robin Vol. 2 #116).
At one point while he lives downtown with his dad & Dana, Tim is interviewed by a social worker investigating Bruce’s parenting. The social worker says, “Tim, you stayed here with Mister Wayne several times for extended periods, correct?” to which Tim responds, “A couple times, yeah. Mostly for a short while after my mom died and my dad was in a coma from his injuries. Bruce and Alfred looked after me until dad got better.” (Gotham Knights #45) “A short while” is vague and subjective so it doesn’t tell us much about whether my timeline is accurate, but this scene does confirm that Tim staying with the Waynes is information that a social worker could find out (though I doubt most of the public knew much about it).
So Tim was 14 already when they moved next door to the Waynes, and 15 almost 16 when they moved out. So it’s less than two years. Tim lived next door to the Waynes barely twice as long as he lived with the Waynes before that. Idk I just find that kind of funny.
Bonus Notes: When Tim was young, the Drakes only stayed at the downtown condo (the one they moved into long-term when Tim was 15) to attend downtown events like the opera or galleries (Robin #100). The Drakes also allegedly owned at least two penthouses (unless the two different names refer to the same one...I'm assuming not). Robinson Park Penthouse is where Jack wanted to move in before Tim convinced him to buy the mansion next door to the Waynes (Batman #480). The Mooney Towers Penthouse “on Diamond Street in Neville,” near Wayne Tower, is where Tim snuck off to stay at a few times during school vacations while Bruce and his dad were gone (Robin Annual 2 & Robin #3).
Additional Note: I’m not sure where Tim regularly lived when he wasn’t at boarding school before his mom died. We see brief glimpses of what is presumably his childhood home(s) in flashbacks but I don’t remember it ever being mentioned in depth. Tim implies that the Drakes didn’t live in one place in Gotham for more than 6 months until he was 14 (Robin v2 #66). They probably didn’t have one permanent residence.
If they did have one, though, presumably it wasn’t in downtown Gotham, since they considered the condo closer to downtown events than their regular home (Robin v2 #100), and it wasn’t in the more country area of Bristol where Wayne Manor is (Crest Hill), because Jack Drake was disturbed by the bats and new to the “countryside” air when they moved there (Batman #480).

2 & 3 for any character of your choice
I’ll answer this with Damian!
2. favorite canon thing about this character?
Damian canonically reads manga. Specifically, shoujo, from the Robin 2021 series. Look, it’s not my fav solo of Damian, but just this little tidbit of reading shoujo and relating to the emotional toil of the characters is such a great addition to canon. For some Damian fans, I’m sure it might’ve been a weird inclusion, but personally bc I also grew up reading all kinds of manga and have related to them during struggle, it hits hard. It’s the process of seeing yourself and connecting to characters in black-&-white, who have exaggerated emotions and cathartic reactions to major events. Eventually I need to write a one-shot, or scene or something of Damian reading Chainsaw Man or Welcome to the Ballroom and getting introspective about it.
3. Least favorite canon thing about this character.
He canonically went to hell. :/ Yeah, ok DC. Maybe there’s some merit there to exploring his trauma about going to hell and then getting out- but it never sat right with me. That the explicitly brown Robin was damned by the writers bc he’s the “mean one”. Objectively, he has killed people. Doesn’t make it right to write a child being tortured after an already gruesome death. It especially comes off weird if you know that Jason went to heaven when he died. I don’t know. Maybe there’s something to be said about a boy who went to heaven and actively chooses to damn himself vs a boy who went to hell and actively chooses to be good - but I’m not particularly religious and it’s just….eh.

Huh. It occurs to me that most of the avatars in my TMA/Batfam crossover get to feed just by doing their vigilante work.
Steph & Dick are of the Hunt, that’s self-explanatory.
Tim’s Eye aspect is about evidence of life-ruining secrets, so one good stake-out can refuel him pretty easily.
Batman is so well-informed, has such good timing, and so many people eager to help him, it’s not hard to become paranoid he’s baiting you into a trap. Which is not Bruce’s specific aspect of the Web, but still feeds him just fine.
Jason’s thorough enough in destroying his villains’ lives, but like I’ve said before, he is partially starving himself by not following through on also killing the people they care about if those people are innocent; it’s not complete Desolation he’s bringing them.
Babs is fused with her own information network, so she never needs to worry about starving as long as there’s power. (No Man’s Land might be a problem for her.)
Cass being a creature entirely of the Stranger means she can just walk around a crowded place and feed off the ambient discomfort she causes, but she leans even harder into that with her suit design.
And then there’s Damian. Who’s a Corruption avatar. His swarm is fairly understated, not being inherently aggressive creatures, and his aspect of the Corruption isn’t toxic possessiveness (like Prentiss) or overwhelming paranoia about potentially deadly ickiness hiding just beneath the surface (like Amherst.) It’s… well, I guess the simplest way to phrase it would be that it’s the social cuckoo style of bullying. I’m talking about the kind of social toxicity that whispers behind your back, that reframes your words & actions to make people like the bully more than you, that baits you in ways most people don’t notice so that you say & act in ways that confirm the lies being told, that turns your allies against you, that slowly pushes you out of your own social circles until you’re completely alone. Still a sort of possessiveness, I suppose, but more focused on excising the competition than on controlling a victim.
(In the League of Assassins, it was a skill that Damian honed to a fine edge—finding true allies of his own might’ve been near-impossible, but he could ensure his opponents & rivals had none at all. In the family… look, Damian kinda panicked after Bruce “died,” and definitely made the friction between Dick & Tim about ten times worse with just the right amount of subtle (and unsubtle) needling in just the right moments. He regrets it for years, openly apologizes, and does his very best to make up for it after, for the record.)
But that’s not an aspect that can really be fed just out on patrol. And he can’t feed more directly by just letting his swarm consume people, that’s murder.  …Do you think Damian’s primary source of feeding is actually ripping down bullies & corrupt assholes in his civilian life? The popular bully finds less & less support, more & more people whispering and avoiding them, and only makes the situation worse in their attempts to reassert the status quo. Bruce Wayne’s youngest son “slips up” mentioning who is on the outs with his father & why, or shows a glimpse of fear that seems a little too real, or says something that raises all the red flags about another party guest, and over the course of the evening that person finds themselves increasingly the center of attention in the worst way. Their share prices drop significantly by the time they get home. People stop shopping at their businesses. When Batman reveals all the shady shit that person was mixed up in, everyone shakes their heads but no one’s really surprised anymore—everyone knew they were a bad egg, aren’t we all glad we pulled out of those business dealings months ago?

Making my way through Preboot era Tim comics in a non-linear fashion makes Tim & Bruce’s relationship hurt in a different way than fanfic made me expect.
Tim definitely doesn’t have the same relationship with Bruce that Dick & Jason did, that’s true, but it’s not, hm... the problems are neglect, secrecy, manipulation, communication issues, and high-handedness. Aside from neglect, which mostly pertains because Tim is a kid, these are the same issues plaguing all of Bruce’s other relationships. And the manipulation starts out relatively low.
Bruce isn’t being an overly-critical, violent taskmaster in some attempt to chase Tim off. He’s harsh during their introduction, but once that’s done he settles into acceptance and mentorship, and they hash out the terms of their vigilante partnership early.
Tim was introduced to the comics as part of a deliberate attempt to back away from grimdark edginess, and for awhile, it worked. But over the years, that all crept back in. Bruce got more manipulative, judgmental, neglectful, and callously cruel.
I mean for fuck’s sake after Jack dies Tim spends over a year with no legal guardian despite Bruce knowing his uncle was fake. Whereas when both Jack & Janet were alive Bruce was concerned by how often they were gone and how hard it was for Tim to get in touch with them, and when Janet was dead and Jack in the hospital, Bruce fostered Tim, acting as a parent.
They didn’t have a rough start, with Bruce realizing over time that he saw Tim as family but failed to tell him so. No, they had a relatively decent start for the genre, and their relationship went downhill over time.
I can’t imagine nineties Tim pulling what he did with Captain Boomerang. But I also can’t imagine Bruce reacting the way he did in Red Robin. Nineties Bruce would have been concerned, and maybe expressed it badly, but he’d have tried. He’d have asked Tim why he did it, what his thought process was. Bruce would have been worried for Tim.
Their conversation might’ve been clunky and painful as they both struggled to find the right words, but it wouldn’t have ended where it did.

no you’re right, that’s how i saw it that scene too. joseph has said that eddie was haunted by chrissy’s death and not being able to do anything about it. it was his drive through the season. she was the almost that got away. so he’s telling steve not to let nancy go. i think a lot of people fail literacy skills. because chrissy and eddie’s characters are very interlinked. you couldn’t have one be part of the story without the other. chrissy is important to the story and to eddie’s character, no matter what those people say.
i fully believe that joseph, grace and mason all discussed the love triangle during one of their hangouts and came up with ideas together for their characters relationship to each other. joseph talked about eddie’s crush on chrissy being important in driving jason’s jealousy. i mean mason even made an instagram post where he said jason and eddie were childhood friends and jason was hurt when eddie started playing dnd over hanging out with jason and that mason ships jeddie? munver? surely that would have been something joseph and mason would have talked about. their characters histories together? i bet all of the actors have headcanons for their characters and dicuss those headcanons together like we do.
and the “make him pay” scene was for eddie himself and chrissy. it wasn’t eddie holding back a secret confession to steve.
Yes, Anon, yes to all. It kinda irks me how some fans tend to erase Chrissy’s importance in the story only to validate their ship. Since like she might’ve died in ep 1, but she was also the only reason why Eddie was thrown into the narrative and for me, the reason why he chose to sacrifice himself there at the end.
And I agree about the Eddie-Chrissy-Jason thing too because there was something there and since it’s the actors themselves that talk about it then it’s kinda canon because it was their thought process behind the acting choices, etc.
Which then if Joe didn’t see the last exchange with Steve as anything more than avenging Chrissy, then I think it’s a stretch to think otherwise and somehow use it to validate a ship 💁🏻‍♀️
I mean ship and let ship, but also please don’t harass hellcheer squad since we very much have rights™️

The Brother's Keeper
A Dick Grayson and Batsis One-Shot
Word Count: 2.7K Warnings: Explicit Language, Angst, References to Past Abuse
Author's Note: Another story edited and re-posted! Enjoy! -Thorne
Despite having not lived at the manor for almost a decade, she still knew every hallway and room like the back of her hand, every sound was a familiar net of reassurance she could count on. The hum of the hidden wall closing behind her, the creaking of the third step from the top that they always avoided, the clicking the bats above made. She descended the steps into the cave, balancing the heavy manila files in one hand, the other holding two protein shakes, knowing her father probably hadn’t consumed nutrition in at least a few hours since he called her.
Her eyes fell on him where he sat at the Batcomputer; he’d changed out of his suit and was in a pair of joggers and a long sleeve shirt. She walked over, setting the files down beside the keyboard. “Here’s the files you asked about, dad. I alphabetized them too…and color tabbed ‘em but that’s not important.”
He glanced at her with a warm smile before nodding and turning back to the screen. “Thank you, sweetheart. I appreciate you doing so.”
She leaned an arm on the back of the chair, propping her chin on his shoulder as she stared at the screen. “New antidote for Scarecrow’s toxin?”
“He’s synthesized a new formula, so I need to make a new antidote in case anyone gets gassed,” he replied, tapping at the screen until the numbers were apparently in approval with whatever he was thinking about—who knew.
She hummed, taking note of the lack of noise. “Where’re the chuckle-heads?”
He chuckled and tipped his head towards the locker room. “They put their suits away and went to change.” She nodded again and patted his shoulder before walking off in the direction of the room.
When she got there, she didn’t see them, but she could hear them harking on one another in the locker room, and she moved in that direction. She stepped into the room and took in the image of the four of her brothers standing in front of the mirrors in their underwear, pointing at each other like they were shocked to see the other.
“Do I even want to know?” she asked, unblinkingly.
Their heads shot up and they saw her; Dick greeted, “(Y/N)! What are you doing here? You usually don’t come to the manor.”
(Y/N) shrugged and stepped inside, taking a seat on one of the cool metal benches. “Dad needed some files over a few previous encounters I’ve had with galactic enemies. And me being here brings me back to my original question.” She gestured to them with a wave of a hand, brows furrowed in confusion. “Why are you guys in your tighty-whities?”
They snorted, and Jason turned around. “We’re comparing scars.”
(Y/N) let out a ‘pfft’. “Of course, you are.” She paused for a second and observed them. “Who’s got the gnarliest one?” Immediately, they pointed at Damian who simply motioned to his chest, and she looked at the faded scar that rested over his heart.
A frown instantly drew her lips, and Damian, being ever so vigilant, caught it and shook his head. “It wasn’t your fault, sister. You tried to save me.”
She met his eyes and murmured, “I didn’t try hard enough.” She glanced at Jason, seeing the scars line his chest, her voice just as soft. “For either of you.”
Jason’s lips pulled downwards, and he walked over, sitting on the bench beside her. “The fact that you tried is good enough for us, Queenie.” He reached out, patting her head.
She sighed and shook it off, giving them a smile before she turned to Tim. “Any on you Nerd-bird?”
He grinned and turned around, running his hand along a scar that rested along the left side of his ribs. “When I fought Ra’s, he got me right here.”
(Y/N) looked at it, then leaned back, a curious look in her eye. “Other than dad, aren’t you the only person he’s called ‘detective’?” Tim gave her a firm nod and she pulled a grin, nodding at him. “Look at the Nerd-bird kicking all our asses in the game. I’m proud of you.” He gave her a sheepish smile and she turned to Dick. “We’ve all had brushes with death, but I don’t think you have a lot of noticeable ones. Which is surprising because out of all of us, you’re the most reckless.”
The others laughed while Dick glared at her, then he shrugged and showed his back, and they saw faint white lines that resembled lightning strikes. “When Wally came back out of the speed force, he accidentally shocked me. Of course, it wasn’t enough to damage me severely, but it’s here.”
They looked at him once more, then Tim tipped his head to the side. “What about you, sis? You’ve been doing this longer than we have. Do you have any good ones?” (Y/N) looked at him before pulling off her jacket and pulling off the tank top she had on. She stood up, walking to the mirror and staring into it.
She pointed to one that lined across her left breast. “Even covered by my bra, you can see how badly this one was.” She paused running a hand down it, gaze far. “When Jason died, I got into it with Joker some time after.” (Y/N)’s eyes drifted to Jason’s, who’s were wide with shock. “I beat him worse than dad did, but he left me with this one before I did.”
“I…didn’t know you did that, Queenie.”
“Of course not Jason. I didn’t tell you.” (Y/N) pointed to a patch that rested on her right hip. “Took a bullet for Tim a few years ago.”
“That was when Deadshot was running around, right?”
She nodded, answering his question. “Mhm. They say he never misses. But that day, he did.” Her hand moved and she touched a curved scar that ran down her neck. “After you died, Damian, I found Talia and we had it out.”
“What happened?” he questioned curiously.
(Y/N) met his eyes in the mirror and frowned. “She and I gave each other a fair share of wounds…but I think the ones I gave her hurt more than the ones she gave me.”
“And those were?”
(Y/N) looked back at her reflection and stared at herself. “The infuriated words of a grieving sister.”
Silence enveloped the room and after a few moments, Dick pointed to a particular scar on her back that ran down the length of it. “How in the world did you get that one?”
She looked over her shoulder and reached behind her, fingers brushing over the raised, jagged skin that had sealed unevenly. “On my back?”
Dick snorted and nodded. “The only one on your back sis.”
She went silent for a moment then she admitted, “…Tarantula gave it to me a few years ago.”
No one noticed the way Dick froze for a split second at her admittance, and Jason asked, “Why did you and Tarantula get into it?”
Her eyes met Dick’s for a flash before she looked at Jason. “She killed an informant of mine and I got even with her.”
“Looks like she rocked your shit, Queenie.”
The others laughed, save for her and Dick, then (Y/N) muttered darkly, “I beat Catalina Flores within an inch of her life that night.” Her statement brought their laughter to a grinding halt, and she continued. “Hell, I almost killed her. But I didn’t.”
Damian crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. “And why not? It would not be the first time you’ve killed someone.”
(Y/N) rolled her shoulders and moved back to her clothes, pulling on the tank top and jacket before turning to him. “Because then she would’ve gotten of scot free, and she wouldn’t have to live knowing what she’s done.”
Jason’s eyebrows furrowed and he followed Damian, crossing his arms and leaning against the lockers. “Not to be nosey, but the way you’re talking about her almost seems like you’ve got a vendetta against her. And I mean like, me to Bruce vendetta.”
(Y/N) met his gaze before reaching down and tossing his muscle tank to him, then passing the others their shirts. “The informant she killed was a good friend of mine. There was…a lot of fury.” She paused, meeting Dick’s gaze once more. “There still is.”
The others simply stared at her before pulling on their shirts, and she looked at them. “I’m gonna get dad to go out and eat somewhere with me. You guys go on out and start working on him, would you?” The three nodded and started towards the door, (Y/N) following.
She was almost out of the door when Dick’s voice reached her quietly. “…(Y/N)?” She paused, turning around, and looking at Dick, who wore an unreadable expression; he glanced up at her, his eyes searching as he inquired, “Was there another reason that you two fought?”
“Me and Catalina?” He nodded and she shrugged. “There might’ve been. But the immediate fight was about my informant.”
Dick stared at her for a few moments before whispering, “…You didn’t start your informant network until I donned Batman.”
(Y/N) tipped her head back and leaned against the door frame, eyes narrowed as she mentally picked his words apart as only an older sister could. “What are you getting at, kid brother?”
He fell silent all at once, but when he finally found it in himself to bring his eyes to hers, she saw such pain in them. “Did you fight her…because of me?”
“No,” she immediately replied, firmly and confidently.
Dick’s eyes widened momentarily, but he looked down and nodded. “I see.”
She kept staring at him, then cleared her throat and turned, grabbing the doorknob. She pulled the door open and stopped, murmuring, “Dick.” He glanced up at her, but she faced forward and said, “I don’t know what happened to you in Blüdhaven all those years ago, and frankly, it’s none of my business.”
Dick’s heart sunk at her words, but then she looked over her shoulder, a solemn tone matching her stance and gaze as she affirmed, “But I am your sister…and I run the best damn informant network this side of the galaxy.” She paused, her words taking on an underlying tone. “There isn’t anything that happens in Gotham and our sister city that I don’t know about.”
Something passed between their eyes and she declared, “I am the family keeper. And I will always be the safety net that catches everyone when they’re in their darkest hours. When there’s something you can’t handle, I will for you.”
Her words made his eyes shine with unshed tears and she gave him a faint smile and a wink before she stepped out of the locker room, leaving him sitting alone, his thoughts drifting back to the rooftop in Blüdhaven.
***
She walked across the floor of the cave to see her father standing there, Jason and Tim hanging off his arms and Damian around his neck; he wore the expression of a tired dad and she couldn’t help but laugh at him. “Having fun, dad?”
He shifted slowly as to not knock one of her brothers off and glared at her. “This is your fault.”
“Guilty as charged father dearest! But it’s food time! Let’s get street tacos.”
Jason grunted at her and shook his head. “No, let’s get gyros!”
“Gyros are disgusting, Jason.”
His features contorted in something only described as an insulted disbelief and he declared, “Just because you don’t like limes and lemons, does not mean gyros are gross, (Y/N).”
“We’re not getting gyros, Jason,” she shot back.
“What about Chinese food?”
(Y/N) looked at Damian and nodded. “I’m down for tacos or Chinese.”
“Can we stop and get some shawarma?”
“Tim, which part of tacos or Chinese sounded like shawarma to you? It’s one or the other. Take your pick.”
“But last night was pizza night! And if I eat Chinese or tacos, I’m going to eat more carbs than I need!”
“You do need more carbs, twig-boy.”
“That was mean, sis.”
“Truthful. I mean how have you not been snapped in half yet? You look like a toothpick.”
The others laughed at her comments, and Bruce looked at her. “Where’s Dick?”
(Y/N) tipped her head back to the lockers. “Still changing.” She motioned to the stairs. “You guys go ahead. I’ll wait on Dickie.” They nodded, and she watched her father trudge past with her three brothers hanging off him.
A smile crossed her lips and a few minutes later, she heard footsteps behind her. “Where’d everybody go?”
She turned around and nodded to the stairs. “Told them to go ahead and get ready.” (Y/N) had barely made it up the first ten steps when she felt Dick stop beside her, and she glanced back at him. “Dick? You good?”
He gazed up at her. “Thank you, (Y/N).”
She gave him a knowing look and said, “I didn’t do anything, Dick.”
“You did.”
“Agree to disagree.” They stared at each other for a second then she tipped her head to the stairs. “Let’s go get some food, kid brother.”
He nodded and started climbing the steps beside her. “I don’t tell you enough, sis…but I love you.”
(Y/N) rolled her eyes and mumbled, “God, you are so sentimental.”
“It’s one of my perks.”
“More like a curse…but yeah…it is.” She paused and he stopped beside her, and she reached over, wrapping her arms around his waist. “I love you too, little brother.” His arms wound around her, and they shared a moment before she patted his back. “Alright. Let go. I’m done being overly affectionate.”
He laughed, letting her go and she walked up ahead of him. He kept his eyes trained to her back, and he remembered something she once told him.
The two of them walked silently down the twisting and turning garden path, following the little white concrete plates that made the trail. Dick looked up from his hands, calling out to the older girl in front of him. “(Y/N)?”
She hummed in response but didn’t look at him. “What is it, Dickie?”
“Why won’t you let me walk beside you?”
(Y/N) glanced over her shoulder. “Because I’m protecting you.”
His head tipped to the side and he stopped walking. “But were at the manor?”
“And something could always happen. I’m in the front, so that if something comes, I can protect you while you run.” She turned around and looked at him. “One day you’ll be old enough to walk beside me instead of behind me.”
Dick’s eyes widened and he jumped excitedly. “When! When do I get to walk beside you instead of behind!”
(Y/N) giggled at her little brother and reached out, holding his shoulders to stop him from jumping up and down. “When you don’t need me to protect you anymore…you can walk beside me.”
“When will that be?”
(Y/N) pulled her hands away and spun back around, continuing her walk. “When it happens…you’ll know.” It was all the answer she gave the young boy, but he continued following her, still behind.
Dick blinked, the memory flashing away as fast as it had come, and he saw her back once more; he called out to her. “When do I get to walk beside you instead of behind?”
(Y/N) halted, mid-step and she glanced over her shoulder, a faint smile playing her lips as she replied, “When you don’t need me to protect you anymore, you can walk beside me.”
“And when will that be?”
She huffed a laugh chuckled at him before she turned back around, though she paused just as she was about to cross the threshold and peered back at him. “Don’t you already know the answer to that?”
“I’m not sure I’ll ever know the answer to that one, sis.”
(Y/N) shrugged and turned back around, declaring, “Then I guess you still need me to protect you.”
Dick watched her disappear into the manor, listening as she got into the argument that her brothers were bickering about with each other, and he smiled faintly. “Yeah…I guess I still do.”

Do you ever think about what would’ve happened if Percy had died when he was kidnapped, maybe a monster came across him while he was sleeping and got a lucky hit in at his weak spot? Nico might’ve felt Percy die and told Annabeth, and the rest of the demigods by extent, but who was planning on telling Poseidon “you’re favorite child went missing and was killed, but nobody knows how”? I really wanna know what the worse-case plan was for those days they didn’t know Hera was behind the swap (and that it was a swap).
Okay so this would actually work because Hera got captured, and used the last of her power in order to get Jason with his gang and Percy had been missing for a few days before that.
So if she got captured a day or two before she dropped Jason off, then it would mean Percy was effectively without watch during that time. And the protection he had may have been compromised by Hera using her power to move Jason. In that case it would be very easy for a monster to come across him, and they’d have free reign to poke and prod and search for the weak point and uh oh no more Percy.
In such a case... well Annabeth would be furious, grieving, she might not even have the motivation to go to pick up Jason because Percy is dead so what’s the point? The camp would be extra sus of Jason though, if Hera guided Annabeth to him regardless and she did go but Percy is dead and Hera declared Jason would be the path to knowing what happened to Percy-- well Jason would be sus as fuck.
The quest wouldn’t help, like oh boy Hera is supposedly captured, uhuh uhuh... and you all desperately want to go get her... okay... you do that... sus...
Afterwards Jason might be going on about how Percy is probably at CJ and it would just be them all staring because Nico said Percy is dead, Grover felt the empathy link cut, felt Percy’s death, and was in a coma for a week or two cause of it and is awake and confirming that Percy is dead and-- they’re grieving and hurt and Percy’s dead.
Hera would be public enemy #1 and the Camp would absolutely not be on board with looking for this other camp I’d think. How do they know this other camp didn’t kill Percy? If Jason was put here and Percy there? In such a case they might even go to actively start a war.

Not a good idea, maybe, but still... NV Followers' reaction to how the Courier tells the follower that sometimes all their adventures seem like a kind of deathbed dream to them (a bullet in the head after all...)
Just know, anon, that I am strongly resisting the urge to go full Shane Madej and Ryan Bergara with every single one of these reactions.
"Maybe this is all just... me." The courier waved their hand through the scorching air, tracing the shimmering line of the horizon that sang false promises of water. "A mirage. An oasis in the desert that I can't quite reach, but my eyes keep telling me is there if I just walk far enough."
Their hand went to the scar on their forehead. "I don't know. The things I've seen, since Goodsprings... if I told them to half the people in the Mojave, they'd toss me in the same shack as No-bark. HELIOS One? The Burned Man, in the crispy flesh? Jason Bright and his followers? Hell, the Sierra Madre? How do I know I didn't actually bite the dust in that graveyard, and all of this is the work of the bullet Benny put in my noggin?"
Arcade Gannon: "I guess there isn't a very convincing way I can answer that question," Arcade admitted. "But the fact that I know exactly how close you came to dying could be some evidence to the contrary. I doubt you were walking around with much medical knowledge about cranial vulnus sclopetarium prior to encountering it firsthand."
The courier looked somewhat interested, so the researcher continued hesitantly. "Did that doctor who checked you out not explain what happened to your brain? It's honestly a miracle that you're still walking around."
"I might've been a little preoccupied with the shock of being awake," the courier admitted. "Here, show me."
They guided Arcade's hand to the wound site, which he felt gingerly, trying not to awaken any pain. "Okay, close, very close range, left side... trajectory was too high, so it missed the speech center... probably sustained the most damage in the frontal and parietal lobes... well that tracks, that would affect problem-solving skills and spatial relationships..."
"Arcade?"
"Mm-hm?"
The courier grinned. "Just keep talking to me in Latin and I'll stop caring whether I'm dead or not. It sounds nice."
Arcade blushed.
Craig Boone: "Mmm." Boone pondered the thought, but immediately felt the shadow of guilt fall over his shoulders. Had any of his targets felt that way as they lay dying? Had Carla? He tried to shake the feeling off before it reached his face.
The courier, for their part, didn't notice, or at least knew enough to pretend not to notice. "That snake Benny was using a handgun, too, and who knows what caliber," they said, looking off into the distance.
"Low," Boone offered.
"Come again?"
"The bullet," Boone clarified. "It's still in your head. Slow and small caliber, if you're not already dead from it."
"But I could already be dead from it."
"Nah."
The courier looked as though they wanted to probe further, but Boone straightened his sunglasses and walked past them, signaling that the conversation was over. Headshot wounds, hypotheticals, they weren't his strong suit, but he did know one thing: The orders he had followed and the lives he had ended were far too real to be the figment of some Mojave wastelander's imagination.
Lily Bowen: "Come now, dearie, you're giving your imagination too much credit." Lily patted the courier lightly on the shoulder. Well, as lightly as a nightkin could. "Grandma's seen many strange things too, ever since she left the vault behind."
The courier smiled. "Stranger than the ones I've seen? Like what?"
Lily made an ugly face. "I saw many things when working for the Master. Golden geckos in Klamath. Ghosts in Baja. The Master himself, with his brain in the computers and the computers in his brain."
"Eugh." The courier mimicked the face Lily was making. "One of those, huh? Always seemed unsanitary to me."
"Good things too," Lily went on wistfully. "I saw Marcus' first city, when it was big and full of people. Humans, but also super mutants, ghouls. How I would have liked to take Becky and Jimmy there."
Her voice faltered a little, remembering the grandchildren that had been lost, left behind long ago. The courier reached out and took her hand. "I'm here, Lily."
After the memory passed, Lily returned to her smiling self. "You are, pumpkin. We're here together."
Raul Alfonso Tejada: "I know how you feel, boss." Raul sighed. "There are plenty of things in my past that I can't help but question the authenticity of. All I can say is that after a while, you stop asking and just go along for the ride."
"Right." The courier crossed their arms. "I suppose it's not that different a mindset from becoming a ghoul. Time stretching on in front of you, no clear end in sight, no expectation there will ever be one."
"Eh." Raul shrugged. "That might just be a mindset of mine. I stopped worrying about dying a long time ago. Or maybe I was looking for it, but never managed to find it. Either way, time doesn't bother me the way it used to."
"But it still does?"
"Sí. Now I worry more that I'll forget the crazy things I've seen altogether, or that they don't mean anything."
The young courier looked like they weren't quite ready to ponder that possibility. They stood together in silence for a while, watching the horizon's haze.
"Should we keep going?" the courier finally asked, shouldering their pack.
"Desde luego."
Rose of Sharon Cassidy: "Sometimes I wonder the same thing," Cass replied with a nod. "Well, not the exact same thing, but somethin' similar. Plenty of times in my life, I've woken up in someone else's bed or on the floor of a bar and wondered if I actually survived the fight I was in the night before, or if I finally drank enough to make my heart stop. It's a strange feeling, but then someone douses me in water or slaps me too hard on the ass and the pain of the wakin' world creeps back in, little by little."
"Do you slap them back?" the courier joked, chuckling.
"Them and the world," Cass confirmed. "I always figured if I'd actually died in my sleep, why bother makin' up some desert full of sadness and sunburns to fill my time? Had enough of that in life, so I can't see my mind keepin' it around. Much rather conjure up a house by the beach somewhere, with a basement full of caps and enough booze to last me 'til the bombs fall again."
The courier eyed her mischievously. "Maybe you're in hell."
Cass held her canteen up. "Well then. To bein' stuck in hell with a true friend."
She drank, long and deep, and the courier retrieved their canteen to do the same.
Veronica Santangelo: "Oh, Six." Veronica's face filled with sympathy. "Is that really what you think about, when you're trying to sleep at night in the casino and Cass is snoring in the bed next to you?"
The courier blinked. "Cass snores?"
"How have you not noticed?" Veronica pulled her power fist off and flexed her fingers, re-stimulating her circulation as best she could. "Arcade said he wanted to trade with me, after Boone had his second night terror incident, but he changed his mind again after one night of her racket. At this point, I'm used to it. When she's not around, I have trouble sleeping, can you believe that? Brotherhood bunks really prepared me for the Lucky 38."
"No, I hadn't noticed." The courier sat down on a nearby rock and stretched their legs out. "I guess I haven't been there much, lately."
Veronica sat down next to them. "You know, the more often you're gone having adventures around the desert, the more crazy things you're going to see. People who rest on their laurels and stick to the Strip don't lie awake wondering if they actually died back when they choked on those buffalo gourd seeds at The Gourmand."
"Touché."
ED-E: The eyebot let out a few beeps of disagreement and rolled from side to side in mid-air, indicating as best it could that in its experience, being shot in the dome was a good method for scrambling circuitry but was actually terrible for fusing new connections. The courier laughed and reached out to rub the robot's side. "Thanks, buddy. Maybe I'm right, or maybe reality is just a weird place."
ED-E beeped its satisfaction and bounced forward as if chasing the mirage. The courier trailed after the eyebot, their giggles blowing out with the wind into the desert for all to hear.
Rex: The old cyberdog whined and licked its companion's hand, uncertain what they were asking. Any dreams the canine had were good ones, long runs over grassy plains and prey that was always a hair too slow. Life with the courier was good too, but full of many more dangers than a savannah dotted with rabbits and deer. The courier scratched the dog on his ruff affectionately, before continuing over the hot sand toward their destination. Rex followed behind, happy and panting.

reasons why piper gets hated on :
(warning all of these are incredibly stupid)
“for being too feminine” : first of all for a daughter of aphrodite she’s definitely considered not too feminine. second, she’s a girl, a regular teenage girl, what do you expect. third, i seriously do not remember her being feminine at all, she legit doesn’t like dressing up and can protect herself.
“for giving off ‘i’m not like other girls’ vibe” : so...? she changed as well in the end. her ‘i’m not like other girls’ phase was only in the first book as well.
“for talking too much about jason” : is there a problem with it? annabeth talks a lot about percy, percy talks a lot about annabeth as well, and i don’t see anyone complaining about them. he’s her boyfriend so of course she talks about him a lot. jason also had the most injuries/ most often got injured out of all of them which was why she was worried. piper’s povs are one of my favourites and i seriously don’t remember her talking that much about jason anyways.
“for thinking that jason is better than percy” : for the last time, they’re equal. i like to see the both of them as complete opposites of each other instead, like jason’s a son of zeus with a golden retriever’s personality while percy’s a son of poseidon with a doberman’s personality. like jason’s the chill dude who was raised by wolves and was forced into leadership ever since he was really young meaning he definitely has more experience with leadership, sword training, and regular missions in general. while percy on the other hand is definitely less experienced and has had less training, despite that he has more bizarre experiences and is still equally skilled in sword fighting as well. LIKE THEY LEGIT HAD A FIGHT, ONE ON ONE, AND IF PIPER DIDN’T STOP THEM THEN THEY WOULD’VE BOTH DIED BECAUSE THEY ARE ON THE SAME LEVEL. i feel like the difference between the two of them is just that jason’s fighting style is extremely predictable since he’s taught the same way to fight as like hundreds of other roman demigods while percy’s fighting style each time is different depending on his opponent and insane plan.
“she moved on too fast” : well to be fair, their relationship was already on the verge of falling apart before she called it quits. their relationship was literally set up by aphrodite and hera which made her uncomfortable, and i think it’s understandable. like the two goddesses really just put two hot people together, made one of them fall in love first until the other eventually fell in love as well. their relationship was literally built based off their looks, at least for jason since to him it was just love at first sight. meanwhile piper fell in love with an ‘idea or imagination’ of him. anyways the point is that in my opinion, she did not. she just wanted to leave that relationship as soon as possible and just luckily managed to find someone. to be fair, piper is described as super hot tho so i feel like it’s impossible for her to remain single for a long time lol.
“she’s useless” : without her jason would’ve been dead by book one, percy (and jason, again) would’ve died by drowning in poison, leo ( and percy and jason) would also still be possessed by some ghost (idk what their called, i forgot), annabeth might’ve died as well being crushed underground, and she’s literally everyone’s therapist in the ship. she’s the peacemaker, the one who ends conflicts between the 7 of them. she can also save herself and can manipulate anyone by just sweet talking.

Teen Titans #29
So, one of my favorite types of fics to read is Different First Meeting fics between Jason and Tim. I looooove reading Enemies To Caretaker, of which I fed handsomely on fairly recently. Big Brother Jason fics give me warm fuzzies, and Tim Drake needs a hug, and I feel like if these two actually got to know each other and worked past their preconceptions, they’d get along surprisingly well. And Still A Jason!Robin Fanboy Tim Drake is just a fun concept.
Also, it just FEELS right for the middle siblings to band together after Damian comes along, lets get those abandonment issues in the party.
So, for mysterious and very secret TimKon Week 2021 reasons, I was rereading some Teen Titans, and I stumbled over the Original Tim+Jason First Meeting, and I just sort of wanted to talk about some interesting things I found in there rereading it after several years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
First thing right off the bat, when reading fics, normally it’s either the Core Four at the tower that Jason puts to sleep, or it’s Tim alone for the night. In the comic, none of Tim’s close friends are even at the tower, Jason waits for Bart and Cassie to leave, and Conner actually hasn’t come around for an in-universe month, because this is after the Superboy’s Birthright arc where Lex mind controls Conner.
The people Jason knocks out were his own teammates when he was a Titan. He specifically says he never got to work with Beast Boy or Cyborg directly, so he doesn’t feel bad electrocuting them, but he feels bad putting Raven under much more gently because she used to worry for him.
Tumblr media
Tim has just gotten off the phone with Bruce when Jason shows up. It seems like Bruce might’ve been picking Tim up, but something’s come up with Martian Manhunter going missing, so Tim tells him he’ll catch a ride with Cyborg.
This is actually really interesting to me, because it’s a small moment of Bruce letting Tim down. It’s a conversation he’s probably had with his biological father many times when Jack’s canceled on him.
Tumblr media
Gonna acknowledge this abomination real quick. This is So Stupid, and I’m glad as a fandom we just all agreed Jason didn’t do this. It makes me ask so many questions. Where did he get that oversized Robin costume? Why’d he tear off his perfectly good clothes? Why did he do this? Why the yellow tights? WHY?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A lot of things are actually happening here that are actually Really Interesting if you just look past the stupid fucking outfit. Because this comic actually flew really close to greatness, they just ended up dropping the ball by not continuing to do more with it.
First off, Jason doesn’t beat around the bush. He’s immediately like “yeah, yeah, yeah, Red Hood, whatever, I’m Jason Todd, bitch! Fight me.”
Secondly, Jason’s done his homework. He knows A LOT about Tim. He knows his name, he knows he has a dad, he knows he went to prep school, and he knows the story of how Tim became Robin. How he GOT that last bit of information, I’d honestly like to know. But even HAVING the information isn’t enough; he’s still letting his preconceived ideas get in the way. The surface level information about Tim’s life only served to fuel his jealousy and anger (thanks, Lazerus Pitt!). He’s so focused on Tim’s privilege that he’s looked past evidence of hardship; if he’s done this much research on Tim, he’s no doubt seen records of multiple boarding schools, lengthy travel records, news reports, a death certificate.... He can’t even bring himself to BELIEVE parts of Tim’s story that aren’t lining up with his world view, like HOW he became Robin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jason has convinced himself that what he’s discovered about Tim and the period of time when Jason was dead - the fact that Bruce was spiraling after his death, that his family mourned him, that Tim had to step up to the plate at a weird suicide prevention buddy system - is all a lie. Despite the fact that he’s beating Tim’s ass, he speaks to him with the assumption that Tim’s a child who’s been manipulated and lied to.
Meanwhile, it must be SO PAINFUL for Tim to hear Jason say these things: I bet he said the same thing to you he said to me, didn’t he? That you have the talent to make a difference in Gotham. That he needed someone he could trust in his war on crime. That you were one of a kind. The light in his darkness.
Bruce never said any of that to Tim. Bruce rejected Tim, he didn’t want Tim, and begrudgingly accepted Tim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Going back to Jason waiting for Tim’s other young teen friends to leave the tower before going in, only drugging his own former teammates, is much of his anger seems directed at THEM, not just Bruce. To Jason, it looks like they didn’t mourn him either, he has no statue. I find it interesting that he smashes Donna Troy’s statue, who died after him, and I believe she came back before he did.
Unless he was keeping track of the news from the League of Assassins, to Jason, Donna never died.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And most importantly? Tim shuts Jason down. Tim “Bitch, Please” Drake out here like: you’re a fucking idiot, he loved you to death, he barely let me audition for the role.
Tim shows some deep resentment towards Jason in this scene. I mean... earned, Jason literally came into his house and starting hitting him, but Tim’s relationship towards the Idea Of Jason has gone through a few changes. At first Jason was ROBIN! THE BOY WONDER! And if maybe Tim thought Bruce wasn’t AS happy with Jason as he was with Dick, there was still SOME hero worship early on. But it only takes Bruce and Alfred and Dick using Jason’s death as a cautionary tale a few times to get Tim to see Jason AS a cautionary tale - the kind of Robin NOT to be. But the more Tim craved Bruce’s paternal attention and approval, and the more Bruce withheld it or made Tim work for it, knowing that Bruce did that, in part, because of his love and grief for his dead son (Tim having an actual living breathing father plays a part, too), and those feelings towards Jason have started to fester.
Tumblr media
Jason can’t let it go, though, he thinks the concept of Robin was a mistake and had always been a mistake, and if he can hurt Tim, so can Scarecrow, Penguin, The Joker.
This is a good time to bring up that one thing I think Jason probably doesn’t know is Tim is injured. It is a little over a month since since Conner shattered Tim’s right arm. Tim is still healing from a comminuted fracture in his forearm. And looking at this picture that is - ah, yes, that is the injured arm Jason is swinging Tim by. Tim is probably healed by now, the cast IS off and he’s a child, but bones don’t fully return to full strength for 3-6 months.
Tumblr media
Jason is conflicted. This is clearly, in part, a fucked up way of “protecting” what he sees as a manipulated child, to convince him to leave Bruce. But there’s also clearly some deep, deep jealousy thrown into the mix to complicate matters and cloud his judgement. Ultimately, Jason isn’t there to kill Tim. Tim would be dead if he was. He’s there to “beat some sense into him,” and he ultimately fails, and fails badly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim is found by the older Titans, awake by now, though it seems Jason knocked him out to, uh, fuck with the memorial chamber, and Tim... does not beat around the bush. No secret identities here just “yeah, Jason Todd beat the shit out of me.”
And their reactions are HILARIOUS.
Tumblr media
One more little sidebar, in the comic, Jason gets in with a D.N.A. check that never removed him from its permissions. Usually in fic this is a unique pass code. I’m not sure which version I like better, honestly. There’s something about Jason physically inputting a code that accepts him even though he’s supposedly dead that I really like, and just feels better than a dna scan. A dna scan sounds SAFER, sure, but there’s something about the Titans leaving in an honest SECURITY RISK out of sentiment that I like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, I really like how it ends. Jason honestly thinks Tim IS a good Robin, and it seems like Jason’s done some research on the core four, mentioning Tim’s “real friends” again while the “camera” is on Conner and Cassie, suggesting that Jason KNOWS about them and possibly that targeting the tower while they were gone maybe wasn’t an accident or out of convenience, but fully intentional. And again, Jason’s real problem is highlighted: he feels alone, forgotten, unmemorable, no family, no friends.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.

Protect
For Maribat March day 18 theme protect
Master List
“DEAREST BIG BROTHER! I’M HOME!” A female shout came from the foyer of the manor.
Dick, Jason, Tim, Babs, Steph, and Cass were hanging out in one of the many rooms the manor held. Alfred had just walked in with a tray of drinks but froze at the sound of the voice.
THE HECK!” Was shouted by the same voice followed by Damian’s voice shouting,
“WHO ARE YOU!?!?! HOW DID YOU GET IN!?!?!”
Alfred was out of the room in an instant. He was not sprinting but he might as well be with how fast he was walking. The batkids immediately followed after him.
They walked in on a sight none of them will ever forget. Literally, Jason had taken a picture. A strange woman who looked like a female, miniature version of Bruce had Damian’s precious katana and seemed to be taunting him with it.
“Miss Marinette!” Alfred called and got both the woman’s and Damian’s attention.
“Alfred!” The woman replied, running over and giving him a hug, katana still in her hand.
“Wait, Aunt Nettie?” Dick spoke up, walking over to the pair.
“Little Wing! Wow, you got so much bigger since the last time I saw you.” She responded, giving him a hug.
“Wait, wait, your Aunt Nettie?” Jason asked, crossing his arms.
“Aww, Little Blue Jay, you don’t remember me?” She shot back, crossing her arms as well.
“Blue Jay, why is that familiar?” Jason muttered to himself, not quietly enough since everyone heard him.
“Aunt Nettie, you only visited once when he was here.” Dick reminded her.
“Oh, well that will explain that. Also how many more kids did Bruce adopt? I thought it was only the 2 of you, the Drake kid, and his bio kid.” She questioned, motioning to each child she remembered.
“The only other kid he adopted is Cass, Steph and Babs are family friends.” Dick clarified.
“Babs, the first Batgirl correct?” She asked, turning to the girl in question. Everyone froze at that, this girl who was apparently Bruce’s sister knew who they were.
“It’s fine guys, she’s known since the beginning of his time as Batman.” Dick assured.
“Yep, speaking of my big brother, where is he?”
“Master Bruce is currently at a WE meeting, but he will be back in time for dinner.” Alfred answered for her.
“How come father never told us about you?” Damian voiced, glaring at her and looking like he wanted to attack her again. Probably because she still had his katana.
“I rarely visit nowadays and he’s probably still upset after last time.” Marinette smirked, like she had won some sort of battle. Noticing she still had his katana, she handed the blade back to Damian.
“Last time?” Tim hesitantly echoed.
“How about Miss Marinette shares the story in the living room? I can bring snacks.” Alfred offered, Marinette looked like she was about to say something but Alfred beat her to it, “You bond with your nieces and nephews, I will be fine.”
“Come on Marinette! You can tell them about how you helped train Bruce! Oh did you bring any kwamis with you?” Dick rambled, pulling Marinette with him into the room they were hanging out in before her appearance.
Once they were all seated Tim started the conversation, “So I’m not hallucinating, you are actually Bruce’s sister.”
“Yes, Bruce is 3 years older than me. I know that he is Batman and you guys are the bats and the birds.” She calmly responded.
“What did Dick mean by you helped train Bruce? And what is a Kwami?” Babs continued.
“Kwami are basically magical beings, kinda like gods, that are bound to jewels called miraculous. Since I’m the guardian I protect these jewels. I trained Bruce by helping my old mentor from Tibet train him.” Marinette explained.
“What happened last time? And why don’t you visit often?” Damian asked, carefully hidden curiosity in his eyes.
“Back in my first year of highschool, Bruce was very protective of me. Like very protective. No boy he didn’t approve of, which meant I could never talk to a single boy, could get within 10 feet of me without him present. Asking me out, out of the question. Pretty sure this one guy, Adam, wanted to ask me out but Bruce interrupted before he could. I never talked to him again after that. I got pretty tired of it so I signed up for the foreign exchange program and went to school in Paris.”
“Wait,” Steph interrupted, “Bruce was an overprotective brother?”
“One of the worst kinds. I’m sure if our parents were still alive he might’ve been worse than my dad.”
“What importance does this have to the questions?” Damian sneered, annoyed that he wasn’t getting any answers.
“Hold on I’m getting there. So anyways it was in my sophomore year of highschool at Paris that a supervillain attacked. He called himself Hawkmoth, he used the butterfly miraculous to transform people into his puppets by using their emotions against them. I didn’t think much of it since it didn’t concern me, my host family agreed thinking it wouldn’t last long. But when I got to my room there was a little box sitting on my desk and that’s where I found the ladybug miraculous. The most powerful miraculous besides the cat miraculous. I told Bruce, he wasn’t too happy about it, but there wasn’t much he could do. So much happened in that amount of time that I don’t think I could summarize it all before Bruce gets back but just know that in that span of time I met the current guardian. Hawkmoth gained an ally who used the peacock miraculous, Mayura. Also a miraculous that could manipulate emotions.
After I and my partner had defeated Hawkmoth and Mayura, sometime during my senior year, we revealed our identities, dated for a few months before I ended things. Then I went back home and Bruce was getting ready to go on his soul-searching journey to be trained by masters or whatever and I suggested he be trained by my mentor who was in Tibet. I went with him, we trained for a couple of months before he left. I decided to stay in Tibet to train to become the next guardian. Eventually my mentor died and gave me guardianship.
Then I returned to Gotham and Bruce had adopted Little Wing over there. So I stayed here for a while before I decided to go around the world doing guardian things. Bruce didn’t like the idea but there wasn’t much he could do. I ended up catching up with an old friend of mine on one of my travels and we started dating before I came back here. That’s when I met Little Blue Jay for the first and last time.
Before you guys had gone on patrol I tried to ask Bruce to give my boyfriend a chance but he didn’t agree. I’ve always been his little sister in his eyes, I think he couldn’t handle the fact I had grown up. Nasty words were exchanged between us and I haven’t returned since. In the end me and him didn’t work out but I couldn’t bring myself to return, until now at least.”
“Why now?” Damian immediately pressed once she finished her explanation.
“Dusuu was missing Alfred. It has been like a decade or something.” She remarked, pulling out a peacock shaped brooch.
“Didn’t you say that the peacock miraculous was evil?” Cass signed, raising an eyebrow at the brooch.
“No, I said it was used for evil. The miraculous are technically neutral, can be used for good or evil. Depends on who is wielding them.” Marinette bit back, as a flash of light emitted from the brooch. Suddenly a small floating peacock creature stood in front of Marinette.
“Is that a kwami?” Steph asked.
“Yes, this is Dusuu, the peacock kwami of emotions.”
“Hello! It’s so nice to meet you!” Dusuu chirped, “Where’s Alfred?”
“I am right here Dusuu. It is lovely to see you again.” Alfred spoke from the doorway, holding a tray of snacks and drinks.
“Alfred!” Dusuu cheered before flying over and hugging the older man.
“In all honesty Bruce doesn’t sound like the best brother.” Jason pointed out.
“I know it may seem like he’s a shitty brother, and at the time I totally thought he was and still is, but I know where he’s coming from. Bruce was always the more reserved and protective out of the 2 of us even before what happened to our parents. I think our parents' death solidified his need to protect me from anything and anyone. And we all know how horrible Bruce is at showing his emotions so I know his heart was in the right place. Plus, we’ve had years to cool off, I’m sure we can have a mature conversation now.” Marinette explained, a fond smile gracing her lips.
Faintly in the distance they heard Alfred say, “Welcome home, Master Bruce.”
“That’s my cue!” Marinette said before bolting off in the direction of the foyer.
“Alfred something’s off, what are you not telling me?” The second those words left his mouth a weight connected with his back, arms wrapped around his neck and a familiar,
“HEY BIG BRO!” Was registered by his ears.
The weight slipped off his back and as he turned around he was met with the familiar sight of his little sister. “Marinette.”
“Bruce.”
“You’re here.”
“I am.”
“I thought-”
“That I was mad at you.”
“You didn’t visit for 10 years.”
“Life got busy.”
They stood in silence for a minute.
“I missed you.” Marinette whispered, so much different from the girl that was telling them a brief summary of her life. She seemed so much more vulnerable uttering those words than when she had revealed why she hadn’t come back in the first place.
Turns out that was the straw that broke the camel’s back as Bruce wrapped Marinette in a hug as tears slipped from his eyes. They could hear him whispering over and over again, “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for what I did all those years ago.”
It was weird for them all to see, including Dick who knew how much Marinette meant to Bruce. Bruce kept his emotions so closed up, master of the stoic face, but here he was breaking down in front of the all. Here he was crying and apologizing.
“I believe we should leave them alone for now.” Alfred spoke up heading for the dining room. They followed. Later Bruce and Marinette would join them, a little red-eyed with their cheeks tear-stained, but small smiles on their faces.
It was then that all the batkids knew that they would be seeing this ‘Aunt Nettie’ much more often.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Look at that, I’m super late again! Nothing new, I think day 14 was a one time thing unfortunately.
I’ve seen a ton of fics where Marinette was Bruce’s older sister but what about where she’s his younger sister? Bruce would so be an overprotective older brother.
I hoped you enjoyed this! I’m planning on making a part 2 of this for ‘contest’. So stay tuned!
