So called “Free thinkers” when there’s a bandwagon circulating around one of their favs
My take on Clock Tower / Glockenspiel headcanons!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this man has me in an actual chokehold sorry not sorry
-Basic HCs
He/It
Clocktower/Anthro Clocktower robot
CANONICALLY 59 yrs old (going on 60 in may)
Voice HC: The Landlord (Oh!Super Milk chan- English/Americanized Dubs)
Height = 36’9 (36 ft 9 inches)
His personality can be summed up as being Sweet, fatherly, and calm—But can occasionally go overboard with his emotions, whether it be him acting too protective or sweet to the point of obsession, or going cuckoo (pun intended) over even the most minor of inconveniences. Everything else aside, he’s as sweet and smooth as honey, as long as everything is in moderation, he will be too.
-BATCH 1
This guy is basically the Timekeeper of the Wasteland, keeping track of certain dates and events in the wasteland, etc.!
Despite claiming that he knows the time, at any given moment, by heart (knowing his 50+ years of experience), little things, such as Daylight Savings time, may throw him off…and when he DOES get thrown off, he’d usually throw fits out of embarrassment.
There was once a time where the Small World ride was closed down (by Glockenspiel himself) for a whole week simply because he got the time wrong by 1 hour once (1) due to Daylight Savings… THAT IS HOW MUCH HE TAKES HIS JOB AS THE WASTELAND TIMEKEEPER SERIOUSLY.
As a nod to the OG Small World clock’s facade, and how it opens up to show the time—He has a chest crevice, which he can open up at given request, and show the time. Sadly, he can’t change the time by himself, and usually needs someone (usually a gremlin) to go and fix the time for him, when necessary (Time can be rearranged VIA differently shaped/sized Cogs inside said chest cavity
Both the cogs + The aforementioned chest cavity are incredibly sensitive, and even the slightest pains can throw the big guy off…
Also don’t tell him this… but the damned song that constantly plays on repeat in his daily life … actually comes from a Gramophone stored inside said chest cavity
-BATCH 2
Was actually still alive prior to the events of his boss fight (thinner/canon route), It just took like. Day or two before someone came and threw paint back on the poor guy
Still holds a grudge against Mickey after the maingame events, Despite the fact he’s practically required to just smile and wave at everyone willy nilly… here’s a visual demonstration
Tumblr media
Has the memory of an elephant, once you do something to him, he (most of the time) remembers like it was yesterday… which isn’t too much of a good thing, given you know what
Drama Queen, very very big Drama Queen
Longlasting memory + Drama Queen = Hell no.
He can also recognize and perfectly memorize any face or object, so anyone who vandalizes the small world, or just any person thats worth seeing in a negative light, can be immediately recognized, and brought to justice
-BATCH 3 (+some Doll HCs)
Acts as a teacher/legal guardian figure to all of the dolls in the ride,
The dolls have Hivemind mentality, usually doing things in-sync and in unison, without rehearsal, as well as deciding how to act
Some times they’re pains in the ass to Glockenspiel, other times they usually help with certain chores and tasks, such as cleaning, getting certain things, etc.
Despite the fact the dolls resemble kids + have the mentalities of tweens, they’re extremely skilled and talented, even in tasks or activities that are normally considered hard, even for adults. But alas, the same cannot be said for their social skills, considering how their only real interaction is with eachother, and Glockenspiel
Though the dolls may cause some trouble or discomfort to Glockenspiel himself, any physical harm to them, from ANYONE (unless from another doll, without extremely malicious intent). Will set him off, no matter how bad the doll in question was behaving
If anything, if you break ANYTHING in the small world attraction, he will literally go over there and smack the Hickory Dickory FUCK out of you
Please note that Glockenspiel isn’t strict in the slightest, so you need to do something BAAAD to set him off like that.
The dolls carry information from the outside world, such as different cultures, fashion senses, food, etc.
As taken from a friend, Glockenspiel can reflect his own emotions onto the Dolls, if dormant, the dolls will act as normal, But if Glockenspiel goes into thinner form, the dolls will either:
Go completely stationary, not dare make a peep whilst the Clock Tower works his “magic”
Will wreck havoc on whatever person Glockenspiel is agitated at, Especially if said person has come with the intent to harm Glockenspiel, or the Small world in general. Please note that these dolls are approximately (in headcanon) 6-7 feet tall, and weigh about 250.
-BATCH 4
Glockenspiel usually feeds off of Oil (as a coffee-like substance) , and literal Computer chips (as snack)
Despite this, he doesn’t mind indulging in human cuisine every hour or so every once in a while, even having grown a bit of a sweet tooth from it, as well as having the aforementioned dolls make little foods for him, even if it’s not always perfect, or… even if it’s even considered edible. (Not like he cares though… he’s a damn robot!)
Speaking of how Oil acts as a sort of “coffee” to him, he’s. Pretty much addicted to the point that the oil may be apart of him, given how he has to deal with the 200+ sentient dolls, timekeeping, sitting around doing NISH. Keeping the ride fine and dandy, and listening to the same dumb song on loop for over 50 years…yeah!!!
If he doesn’t get his frequent dosage of oil, he’s just gonna be bitchy bitch mcbitcherson for the whole day, many complaints were filed to the gremlins for that and the ride’s service hours got cut short because the bitchiness was getting too much
Tumblr media
-BATCH 5 (backstory edition)
He was apparently popular in the outside/“mainstream” world back in the 80s, in which he looked extremely different, with his appearance resembling that of those punk/rock idols that catered to the rebellious teen generation
His appearance in the 80s was much more lively and had much more going on than the mellowed out old man we have today—though i have not drawn an actual design for it yet, it’s color palette is heavily similar to that of the Glockenspiel shown in the Epic Mickey comic “Clocktower Cleaners”, that + just being reminiscent to Hong Kong Small World
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was a massive pushy egotistical jerk back in the 80s, partied a lot (not a healthy amount for a 36 foot tall, 6 ton weighing Clock tower), typical “young and free” hooligan—way less soft and collected as he is today
Something happened one day that cut his fame short, possibly an accident at a party that caused him to get thrown off from the Mainstream world, and straight into the Wasteland, where he was forced to be on some googoo gaga weenie hut Jr. ass ride for the remainder of his time as a punishment for his recklessness
There were even rumors that have diffused to the Wastelands from the Outside world that they even went on to REPLACE Glockenspiel with somebody else…it doesn’t bother him as much, but it’s definitely worth noting
-BATCH 6 (more physical stuff)
Despite all laws of physics, regarding the texture and form of metal, wood, and all things that create a mechanism such as himself…. He is squishy.
Specifically on the face (considering one of his attack animations in his boss fight), and certain bodily areas. Though this shouldn’t, and can’t be possible… it is… very much so
Tumblr media
Despite the latter, he is also somewhat soft on other areas of his body, especially due to a protective inner rubber layer on certain parts of his body, like his chest and limbs, you can’t feel it much considering it’s *inside* of his metal shell of a body, but it’s there
However, his stomach contradicts acts this, having the protective rubber layer outside of the body, given how he doesn’t have a shell on his stomach, but rather another, thicker rubber layer to replace it (making his stomach’s exterior just be two layers of rubber) making his midsection area, and his face, the squishiest parts of his body
His forms can also control the heat of himself + the environment around him, given his tremendous size
In Paint form, everything is at a comfortable, room temperature, and leaves the Clock tower being warm to the touch, especially on the facial area, given the fact that this man is literally competitious with the actual sun, given the fact that he’s just this big ball of artificial sunshine when he’s not being all moody
However, his Thinner form causes the environment around him to be uncomfortably cold, not in a “hoohoo chill breeze” way, but in a “Holy shit. Its cold. im gonna get sick out here” kind of cold, Any physical touch with this guy in thinner form feels like you just took him out a freezer, which may or may not feel worse when you’re getting absolutely crushed by this absolute mammoth of a man
It’s a rumor that if you hug, or squeeze him in a tight/forceful way, he’ll make one of those cartoon squeak noises (specifically the one in MLP)
-CRACK/MISC HEADCANONS
Allergic to dust, somehow (also canon?)
Probably caused an earthquake like 45 times now
Actually put a crack in the floor once because he tripped
Without his glasses, his sight is equal to that of a 144p video
Touch starved.
Actually very clumsy, the size doesn’t help at all…given the last few entries
His favorite “human” food so far is probably pavlova, specifically pavlova cake rolls. The dolls make that for him a lot
Somehow is able to decipher any. ANY given language, speak it, and even translate it under any circumstances
Lullabies are one of his strongest weakness
Lemme elaborate—There was once a time where the Gramophone in his chest got damaged, and they had to replace it with a music box (the ones used for lullabies), and ended up having to close the ride because this mf decided to go Night-night after about 30 minutes into opening hours
Adores anything considered soft by texture, especially fabric, in clothing or blankets
Developed insomnia from constant oil consumption
Will usually call people who wander into the ride “little one”, regardless of physical age, to him, everyone is small
Got turned into a human once and nearly made like. Half of the Wasteland faint
Shortly after he was turned human, the first thing he did was hug somebody. It did not go too well considering his physique
Lives with 3 other objects in the Small World, which take form of a Cloud, a Sun, and a Hot Air Balloon, which may get separate HC dump posts sometime soon (once i find out what to do with them)
Cracks a lot of Time puns. the dolls really don’t like them

Champion
You are at part 2
<<<Previous ~First~ Next>>>
Damian opened his eyes, someone was here... no more than one person. His next opponent?
Wait it's... GET UP NOW!
Damian sat up and prepared himself to fight, he groaned when he tried to lift both arms to defend himself. "Damian, it's okay. You're at the Manor, how are you doing?"
"Father..?"
"Yeah it's me, we're all here for you. We were so worried"
Damian noticed that Stephanie was the closest to him, he grabbed her by the collar of her hoodie and pulled her close. "Ten miles! West off of the clock tower you have to go immediately!" "What are you talking about?" "No time, Batman you have to go. Please go now, you can't waste any time! Go now!" Damian got off the bed, Duke tried to stop him from leaving his room. "Careful, you can't go as Robin now" "Tt. That's not my plan, get ready immediately. Father now!" Damian moved past Duke and ran downstairs no matter how much his legs hurt. Bruce followed and already put on his cowl. "Spoiler, Nightwing you're with me"
Damian sat at the Batcomputer's chair "Go! I'll tell you the location, go to the clock tower immediately! Timothy join me, run a heat scan ten miles to the West" "Okay"
The Batmobile roared and the three took off, Damian grabbed the link in front of the Batcomputer and put it on. "Can you hear me?"
"All clear"
"Gotcha"
"Reading you loud and clear"
"Good, go head to the clock tower I'll give the rest of the instructions there"
Everything was silent for a brief moment, only the ping of the heat scan running and roar of the Batmobile's engines. "There's an old arena ring, occupied by many people and I can't tell how many"
"Timothy send the coordinates, father when you arrive go around to the left of the building there's a side door there is two guards at front of there so deal with them silently so they can't alert anyone. From that side door is a ventilation system, crawl in and follow my directions"
Sounds of fighting ensued and Batman called in "Arrived, we're crawling in"
"Heed my words very carefully, Batman go forward, right, forward, left, left, right, forward. You'll hear people by then, drop in the adults in the audience don't carry weapons, but the people on the north to the top do carry guns. Spoiler and Nightwing go right, forward, forward, left, forward, left. There's an opening, save them and take care, they've been through many things"
Damian sat back on the chair. Fighting came from the comm link and Damian covered his face with a sigh.
"Damian..."
"Yes Timothy?"
"How did you know where to look and the routes?"
"...we can save that for later, just have to make sure the children get out safe"
From Batman's line a voice so familiar to Damian spoke
Our Champion went to the police and called in you it seems. Be careful around him, he's an A-grade killer. The best we've ever had
Damian's eyes widen and he slammed his hands on the desk. "Batman get rid of him now"
If only my Champion didn't leave, he would've gone far with that killer instinct in him
"BATMAN HURRY UP NOW!"
.
.
.
About two hours later the three came home, Damian was still sitting on the Batcomputer chair.
Bruce was still in suit, taking off his cowl as he looked at Damian. "Damian, we need to talk" "No we don't... I think you already got your answers there"
"We got some, but I need to hear it from you"
Damian laughed bitterly "A month... were you even looking? I was gone for a month and I can't even begin to tell you how many times I tried to run, hide and protest. It's a bloodbath. I'm their Champion... I held a score of winning none could beat me. You'd think considering my upbringing I'd be proud... I wasn't. Hell I was wracked with guilt, I brutally injured many and killed possibly even more. They wanted me to, I couldn't escape. I was finding a way to escape since day one. There were too many obstacles and factors that couldn't help me escape. Then I was tortured. Beaten, being held down in water then moved to be electrocuted. Only when they deemed me a Champion did I not get tortured... I was an item to them. To all of them, getting bid on victory or loss" Damian looked at them, the cave was silent waiting on his word. Bruce, Dick, Steph, Jason, Tim and Duke were waiting. "I had hoped you would find me when the pain got too much. I'd make up scenarios in which anyone would arrive to save me... none of you came. The voices became nothing in comparison, might as well have been in the audience cheering me on to win. And I did, I tried to go easy on my first few opponents. Never worked, I'd end up being dragged back to my cell until the next match. Then... I gave in"
Damian looked down, he can vividly remember that day...

WARNING: this incoherent ramble contains some of my thoughts about ruSSias invasion of Ukraine and speculation of a dark future. Also a tiiny bit about my mental health.
WARNING ENDS
I'm a Finn and the horrors of russian (soviet) invasions are still part of the living history, even among my relatives. My hobby also is studying history. I've also picked up a habit of engaging in the information war that is currently ongoing which means I also follow russian propaganda, russian forums and other discussion groups. Also Ukrainian forums, discussions and news.
My heart hurts so much, seeing a democratic nation being invaded by it's bigger, neighbouring dictatorship. If anyone reading this has been thinking that russia is a democracy, I have this little metal tower in Paris I'd like to sell you.
But the thing is, I'm already doing pretty much everything I can, which is aforementioned info war. Fighting against the overwhelming amount of bullshit from russian troll farms and propaganda, with facts and proof. It's pretty exhausting.
Recently, there was a news article about a new entry to the long list of our fallen heroes, his name, Kasper Alhoniemi. He was 23, a volunteer in ЗСУ, armed forces of Ukraine. And considering the propaganda narrative and talk on russian social medias, I fear he won't be the last. If putler, (that bastard doesn't have my respect so i won't give him the honour of his real name or having his name capitalised) wins in Ukraine, even a token win, the Baltic nations, Poland and/or Finland will be next. And putlers dictatorship isn't as stable it seems. He needs a win in Ukraine. Especially now that Donbas, Luhansk and Crimea are ruSSian soil by russian law that he passed. A claim that no sane mind recognises.
I belive many of you here in Tumblr are pacifist, anti-gun and all of that. Hell, I wish I could be like you and that I wouldn't need to write this. Or even think about this whole situtation.
Dictators like putler don't understand anything else but violence. That was made clear by two certain moustache men in 1940s.
I fear that we Finns will need to soon fight our age old rivals, the russian dictatorship. On our land, yet again. Defending our homes, defending our families. I wish I was fit enough to do what Kasper did, volunteered to Ukraine. To die a heroes death. Defending a democratic nation against an invading army. That's also one of the three reasons why I've kept myself alive for now. If I need to die for the fatherland, I'm willing to sacrifice myself.
I'm not sure if I tried to recover from anorexia now and start training to get myself to be fit enough for combat, would I be able to do that in time to also volunteer in AFU. If they'd even accept me.
My speculation based on ruSSian propaganda and social medias is: If russia gets a win, even a token win in 2 years from now, in the next 5 years, russia will start "special military operation" in the Baltics to get a land connection to what I call Königsberg, and russians call Kaliningrad. The other possibility is that they'll launch a "SMO" against us Nordic countries. Their aim being Norways oil fields. And us Finns being in NATO now as well as being in the route from moscow to Atlantic coast, that'd mean that I need to get myself ready. But also, anorexia... That sweet hell it is... I don't want to get better but I want to be ready. That'd mean I'd need to get better.
I've had couple of sleepless nights trying to get my thoughts in order... I don't know what to do...
All I can say that it was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel. It was supposed to be space travel....
Not plagues, cold war 2 and WW3...
Why must there be men whit such sick minds and little dicks like putler that they need to start wars, order war crimes, murder their own people and attempt to destroy many nations of people and their culture to feel good about themselves...

*I was about to head to bed, not tired at all but seeing it was already after midnight, knowing I didn't really want to be awake when they came home, terrified that I'd hear a girl's voice and just fall apart entirely or end up storming into the hall and getting into a fight with her, telling her to stay away from Anthony, neither option was good so I decided attempting sleep with noise cancelling headphones was the best route for me to take* *I had just stepped foot into my bedroom when I hear the banging on the door, whipping around a bit startled, about to get properly freaked out before I heard Anthony's familiar voice, shrinking in on myself since he sounded so angry but there was a small (petulant) part of me that was so excited that he was here and not at the club, he was here* *I all but run over to the door, throwing it open and looking up at him, my body shrinking even more simply being in his presence like this, hoping he didn’t really notice, already able to tell that he was hammered and high, his voice being slightly slurry and his eyes were red, that annoying me but not as much as it should've, just being so happy that he was right here in front of me* It's after midnight, Anthony, you're gonna wake up the whole floor. What do you want? Quietly, please. *it was taking everything in me not to throw myself at him and wrap my arms and legs around him like a damn koala and apologize over and over again, but I was still stubborn after all and I couldn't let him know just how sorry I was quite yet*
________________________
*id been so focused on my fury and just getting here that I didn’t even consider what I was going to say, eyes alight with fire as the door bursts open and you were stood there looking all soft and cosy, you had no fucking right looking so good just before bad and that just made me more annoyed as I step into the apartment and into your space, my eyes dropping to shamelessly admire your body and growling in annoyance* Fucking hell you frustrate me, woman. *my eyes lift to yours and the alcohol and weed making my thoughts jumble into words with no filter, my fists clenched at my sides* You drive me fucking insane. You ended things and I can’t stop fucking think about you, you’re in my dreams for fuck sake! Tonight was meant to be about forgetting you, finding someone and moving on and you fucking ruined it, god damn it! *my voice was a little raised and full of passion, chest heaving with my intensity and cheeks flushed with my annoyance* Some girl that should have been an easy hook up and I’m fucking soft because she’s not you! How is that fair?? You ruined things and now you’ve ruined me and I’m fucking pissed about it! *i was rambling and panting and towering over you, voice thick with emotion* Fix it. *demands, not even knowing what I was asking but I needed you to sort this out as I felt it was your fault*

Annoying (Boba Fett x fem!Reader)
Tumblr media
Annoying ( Boba Fett x fem!Reader )
Warnings: fluff, hurt with sorta comfort, mentions of blood, one (1) mention of an erection, naughty words
Word Count: 3.1K
Author’s Note: boba may be a grumpy boyfriend, but he’s pretty decent. reminder that requests are open and if you want to be added to my tag list the link is in my bio :)
Tumblr media
Boba’s annoying.
Like, really annoying.
He’s always telling you what to do and when to do it, like he’s the boss of you or something.
Well, technically he did hire you as an onboard mechanic for the Slave I.
But that’s hardly the point.
Because after you reluctantly complete whatever (typically ridiculous) request he’s ordered you to do, he doesn’t show you ever a sliver of gratitude.
He’s constantly teasing you
Probably smirking smugly beneath his bucket whenever you avoid his gaze after a particularly cheeky comment.
You swear that he's going to be the death of you if he doesn't shut the fuck up.
And he's an idiot, you're confident in this even though he always seems to be two steps ahead of you.
"If I'm an idiot, then what does that make you?"
The bitch that's about to roundhouse your ass.
"...shut up."
Boba's also big and green
Like a giant booger you decided.
Because calling him a Hutt would've been a direct insult to Jabba and all who hailed from Nal Hutta.
He's also stubborn.
Which you suppose is a good thing when it comes to his line of work.
But after the quarry's been captured and it's just you and him, you're usually about two minutes away from stranding him on the nearest inhabitable planet.
Boba — the annoying, stubborn, big, green idiot that somehow managed to get his grimy gloved fingers wrapped around your heart with a durasteel strength grip.
And despite his imperfections, you know he cares. He cares a whole lot, actually.
Which is why you're approaching the hour mark of being stranded in the middle of a giant forest.
The stars of the Corellia system moved across the night sky as you wait for your annoying, stubborn, big, green idiot of a boyfriend to find you.
It had started off as a joke.
Not a particularly good joke, but your goal wasn't to make him laugh.
Your goal was to get under his skin.
So you, being the natural-born genius that you are, decide to laugh when Boba oh-so-casually brings up that he is the best bounty hunter in the field.
And you should've dropped it when his helmet ticked to the side and he asked you what was so kriffing funny.
But you — the apparent brains of the operation — don't catch the hint and keep going.
"I mean, I think I could outrun you," you admit nonchalantly, not bothering to look up at him as you absentmindedly pick at a loose thread of your tunic. "Not to mention outsmart you."
You smirk because if Boba is anything but your annoying, stubborn, big, green, idiot boyfriend... he's egotistical.
Boba scoffs, a mixture of amusement and offense lacing his tone. "Yeah? That's what you think?"
You offer him a half-hearted nod, feigning indifference to the whole idea.
He doesn't say anything else after that, nor do either of you bring it up again.
You suspect that maybe he figured that you were just trying to get under his skin, but you didn't think that you could've bruised his ego so easily and truly gotten away with it.
But then all hell breaks loose and the joke that you had started morphed into a much more genuine issue.
An official bounty had been placed on your head, and the reward was quite charitable.
So now, you were hiding out in the middle of some random forest on Corellia as Boba hunts you down to put your survival skills to test.
Your goal is simple, make it back to the Slave I before Boba hunts you down and catches you.
And you had originally thought that it had been a good idea. If Boba, the best bounty hunter there is, can't catch you then hypothetically you shouldn't have to worry about other bounty hunters coming after you.
But you quickly came to regret your decision because now you're lost out in the middle of the forest, hugging some random tree.
You tried not to wander too far from the ship, knowing that you’d have to eventually find your way back.
But you also couldn’t stay too close, it’d be much easier for Boba to find you if you were in the first tree he sees.
You had no definitive way of knowing how much time had passed.
Even though Boba had told you when you landed, you had already forgotten how long a Corellian day was.
Logically, you knew that you couldn't have been waiting for more than an hour.
Though when your natural restlessness mixed with how uncomfortable your hiding spot was, you were convinced that you had been stuck in place for at least several hours.
You had settled yourself up in the branches of a towering tree. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, the bark digging into the soft flesh of your back, but it was endurable.
If you could hide, you could live.
It’s dark, You could barely see the forest floor from your hiding spot.
You weren't far from the ground, maybe a good twenty feet up.
Though you doubted that you’d be able to see Boba if he strolled past your tree.
He had the advantage, of course. Night vision ‘n all his fancy gadgets.
To make matters worse, it’s freezing.
You were itching to get the hell out of the forest and cuddle up on your cot.
But there was a tiny problem.
Boba was coming from the direction of the Slave I.
Which meant that with your luck, there was a very good chance that you’d run directly into him as you’re trying to get back to the ship.
You needed to get Boba off your trail first, get him lost in the jungle.
By the second hour of hiding in the ominous forest, you hear rustling leaves in the distance.
He’s close.
Thankfully, he’s not moving directly towards you.
But you can hear him drawing closer and closer, and you’re about to make a run for it and hope for the best.
And even though you know he’s not going to to hurt you, you’re still terrified.
You hear a twig snap just a few yards from your tree, you flinch.
And then he went silent.
And for a split second, your mind lets you think that he missed you.
But then, just a short distance away, you see it.
The subtle glow of a tracking fob.
He was waiting for something -- standing there, eyes searching for your figure in the darkness.
And then, he turns away, hesitating. Considering his options.
He moves a few paces east, thankfully away from your route back to the ship.
You wait until you can’t hear his footsteps, and begin to move. Quietly, making sure your movements did not betray you.
But that was your first mistake.
Not noticing that it was a trap.
You didn’t realize it until it was too late.
He’s racing after you now, heavy footsteps thudding against the forest floor.
And for someone weighed down by so much armor, he’s fast.
You’re sprinting.
Entire body burning as you make your way through the thick trees.
The world’s a blur as you run, your feet barely touching the ground as you speed through the forest.
He’s on your trail, hot and quick.
You just prayed that you had a good enough lead, maybe you could outrun him.
And just as the Slave I is in view you realize something.
You realize that you’re wrong.
Two strong arms plated with thick duraplast hook around your waist and yank you off your feet.
Air is ripped from your lungs as soon as the slope of your back slams against the armor covering the firm muscles of his chest.
And desperately, you suck sharply for the oxygen that was just knocked from your body but as soon as you manage to breath in, you are robbed once again as the two of you topple to the ground.
You hit the ground hard.
Your head snapping back as soon as your bodies hit the dirt and the only thing keeping your skull from splitting open against the forest floor is the way Boba tugs you against his chest.
“Fuck!” You grit through your teeth, not sure if it’s the pain of the fall or the disappointment of losing that’s bruised you more.
You don’t stop struggling, continuing to fight him as he wrestles you to the ground.
You’re panting, kicking, grunting, punching, swearing—
Boba... hasn’t broken a sweat.
He’s leaning over your and has got one of your arms craned behind your back, your face pushing into the dirt as you actively chose to ignore what seems to be a hard-on pressed into your lower back. Instead of dealing with his problem, you use what little strength you have left to swing your limbs at him.
THWACK!
You’re free hand collides with the dome of his helmet, and it nearly throws him off his game. You smirk— then you seethe in pain.
The skin of your knuckles cracks open upon impact of the duraplast, successfully hurting you more than it managed to inconvenience Boba.
“You kriffing—”
Your words catch in your throat as he suddenly flips you over, forcing you to face his stupid helmet.
He plops down on you, effectively pushing all the air from your lungs for the third time of the night.
He’s sitting on your stomach, gloved hands grasping your wrists as his legs pin down your own.
“Gonna need to put up more than a fight than that,” Boba growls through his modulator, easily restraining your struggling limbs.
"Fuck you.”
You might actually hate him.
No, you don’t.
“C’mon,” he croons mockingly, leaning forward just a bit so that his helmet hovers over your face. “Thought you said you could outrun me. Outsmart me? You got to have more fire in you than that, baby.”
Then you do something incredibly stupid.
Because — who are you kidding? — you’re not the brains of the operation.
You’re the stubborn one between the two of you (which is saying something), and Boba always knows which buttons to push.
You jerk upward, momentarily slipping your wrists away from his grip that loosened from surprise.
Your head slams into the front of his helmet, your forehead splitting open on collision.
But your pride outweighs your pain as you watch your boyfriend’s head snap back slightly with a strained grunt, effectively freeing your arms from his grasp.
With all the force you can muster, you shove him off of you before he can quickly recover and then you’re running.
Sprinting to the ship even faster than before, despite the heavy blood flow that is now running its course down the side of your face.
As soon as the soles of your boots make contact with the durasteel ramp, you collapse.
Toppling down to your knees in the safe zone because you’re so kriffing tired yet so relieved that you won.
The sound of Boba’s footsteps are right by your head as you carelessly sprawl out on the ramp.
“Fuck,” Boba snarls, suddenly invading your little safe zone.
You smirk because you know he’s pissed about losing to you.
“What the hell did you do to yourself?” Boba snaps, his gloved hands seizing each side of your face to make you look at his visor.
You’re bleeding.
Like a lot.
And you almost don’t have enough energy in you to brag.
“I won, old man,” you sigh dreamily, batting eyelashes as you blink away the dots spotting your vision.
Boba doesn’t even comment on the fact that you’re only a few years younger than him.
“Maker help me, you better not have a concussion,” Boba grumbles with an unamused grimace that’s concealed by his bucket, hauling you up from the ramp despite your protests and carrying you into the hull.
He’s completely silent as he cleans your trophy -- a small cut just below your brow that bled way too fucking much for its size. He sprays some bacta on it and covers it with a bandage, only speaking once all the supplies is put away.
“You need to take this,” Boba argues, his blood-stained gloves now discarded as he holds a few painkillers in his palm.
You shake your head. “It’s not serious. You’re gonna need those sooner or later.”
“You have a head laceration, it’s not gonna be long before you get a migraine,” Boba retorts, forcing your clenched fist open so that he can put the pills in your palm.
“No.”
Fuck, you’re stubborn.
His heavy sigh echos through his vocoder. “I don’t want to hear about how bad your head hurts in an hour.”
“You won’t,” you promise.
Though what’s he gonna do about it if you do? Lose another bet?
It doesn’t even take an hour for your head to start pounding in retaliation of your stupidity. Though you bite your tongue as you sit in the co-pilot’s seat, not wanting to get the “I Told You So” speech yet again.
You’ve been in hyperspace for about twenty minute, sitting with your legs criss-cross in the seat, your eyes closed and your head tilted back.
You hope you just fall asleep unintentionally so that you don’t have to get up again.
Every time you stand you think that your skull is going to burst from the incessant thrumming of your brain.
Thankfully it’s mainly dark in the cockpit, the only light coming from the buttons and stars.
“You don’t look so good,” Boba eventually mutters, a hint of something laced in his tongue.
“Gee, thanks,” you reply groggily, pinching the bridge of your nose as your brows furrow.
Just let me fucking sleep in peace.
“How’s your head?” You were too tired to figure out if it’s concern or smugness in his voice.
Probably both.
Definitely both.
“Do you have to talk so loud?” You complain lamely, opening your eyes to shoot a miserable glare in your boyfriend’s direction.
He snorts, shaking his head in spite of you before motioning you over with two fingers. His voice is low when he speaks.
“C’mere.”
You stare at him for a moment but the light is reflecting painfully off the dome of his helmet and you think that your brain is fucking bleeding.
“Don’t want to,” you reply, trying to play it off as disinterest rather than the inability to walk the three paces to sit in his lap.
When he doesn’t immediately react, you avert your gaze to stars and thank the Maker that you can finally close your eyes and have some peace —
A scoff crackles through his modulator, and you don’t open your eyes to glance in his direction as he stands from the pilot’s seat and moves.
Space is silent and his heavy footsteps ring throughout the cockpit and send vibrations through every bone in your body.
He inserts himself between your slightly parted legs and hovers there for a moment, you can feel his gaze searing into your flesh despite your lack of vision.
His scent is overwhelming — something masculine and spicy, fresh and clean.
“What’s the matter, sweet girl?” He questions softly, leaning forward ever so slightly to cage you in between the co-pilot’s seat and his armor.
His bare hand cradles your cheek before trailing down to wrap around the nape of your neck.
Your eyelashes flutter open and you meet the ominous visor.
“Nothing.”
It’s a plain lie that’s so clear and plastic that it loses all the sharpness and edge that a true lie holds.
He shakes his head, eyes still trained on you. “Really? Nothing’s bothering you?”
This time you shake your head. “Nothing,” you repeat with more firmness.
Stubborn.
He nods thoughtfully, a hum rumbling through his helmet before straightening out, pulling away from you a bit.
You sigh out a small breath of relief, finally having the space to breath air that wasn’t him.
You let your eyelids slump shut again, though you should’ve know better than to think your stubborn boyfriend would leave you alone.
“Hey!”
He’s scooping you up in his arms, pressing you against his chest and moving before you can wiggle out of his grasp.
He’s still carrying you when he descends the ladder, you’re too disoriented to figure out how but he does nonetheless.
He flops you down on the bed, tugging your dirty shirt over your head.
Oh. Oh.
You mentally shrug because even with the pounding of your skull you wouldn’t mind a quick fuck before bed—
But then Boba presses his palm against your forehead and pushes you against the pillow — and you also then realize that he had only removed your dirty shirt so that you wouldn’t complain about the *germs* getting on your pillowcase (which causes acne, you dutifully remind him - not that his buckethead cares).
Though you give him credit where it’s due.
He’s being thoughtful.
He disappears without a word, returning only a few moments later.
He outstretches his hand to reveal three painkillers.
Thoughtful bastard.
You’re still lying flat on the mattress and your eyebrows furrow. “I said that I’m not—”
He tugs his helmet off his head with a short breath, tossing it haphazardly at the foot of the bed.
Sometimes you forget how beautiful he is beneath his green bucket.
Tanned olive skin, dark wavy hair that’s borderline shaggy, calculating eyes that glisten with mirth, and rosy lips that are tilted into a boyish smirk.
“They’re not for you, kid,” he grumbles teasingly before throwing the three pills to the back of his mouth before taking a single gulp of the glass of water that’s still beside your bed from the night before. “Now move over.”
It’s a miracle that you actually listen, scooting to the other side of the bed so that he can collapse on the mattress.
His arms drag you into his chest as soon as he settles, tucking the top of your head beneath his chin.
“You’re a pain in the ass,” he utters, voice tainted from exhaustion but you can hear the adoration.
You smile softly, burying your face in his neck so that you can press a kiss to his collar.
“And you’re annoying.”
Good thing I love you.

Part 2
༻༺༻༺༻ღ༺༻༺༻༺
The second thought? Oh shit.
No, scratch that – your second thought was ‘Holy shit, Steve has very quick reflexes.’
The same moment the sound reached your ears and shook your very core, you were tackled to the ground and shielded by Steve’s impressive frame, a flash of panic in his bright eyes. He wasn’t losing any time gazing into yours though, assessing the sudden chaos and switching to his Avenger mode in a fraction of second.
Your mind was slower than his, but one thing wormed its way through your brain immediately; yes, it was in fact an army of fucking robots crashing the party, lined up and levitating two feet above the ground.
The fuck-
You suspected that the robots were mind-readers on top of everything, when one of them, bigger than the others, spoke up into the momentary stunned silence, his voice hoarse and rough as if he was smoking two packs of cigarettes a day: “Sorry to crash the party, folks.”
Another beat of silence and the robots rocketed off simultaneously with the first scream that set off a cacophony of horror.
Steve’s voice broke through the eardrum-tearing noise.
“Stay down and get the hell out of here,” he hissed, jumped to his feet in an impressive speed and took off to be the hero he was.
Why was he giving you opposite orders? That didn’t make any- it took you a moment to realize he didn’t mean for you to lie on the floor and make your escape at the same time, just wanted you not to run with your back straightened.
To be fair, you were too dumbstruck by the desperation stuffed into the simple order, carrying so much more meaning than the actual sentence, to have a clear mind.
Run. I don’t care how and where, I don’t care what you need to do to get out of here, but you run and don’t look back. Get to safety, no matter what.
As you crouched, your eyes flickering over the chaos of a room, you caught Tony’s calculating gaze and gave him an inconspicuous nod; a second later, his gaze fell on something else and you followed his line of sight to Pepper. You exchanged a silent conversation and sprang to action.
Here was a thing: Tony Stark was a technical genius.
His trust in his own technology and security systems was immense.
His trust in his own technology and security systems was not unconditional.
Tony Stark was a paranoid bastard of a man, which was something he could bond over with Steve; the Steve after your death that was.
Because of Steve’s paranoia and understandable fear, Natasha had been forced to teach you a bit of hand-to-hand combat. Jarvis had been forced to go over the plans of the Avengers Tower and escape routes for million times with you.
The part Steve was clearly forgetting now was that Tony hadn’t failed to inform you about the two different panic rooms, technology free; or maybe he was just forgetting the part in which he tended to inspire people around him.
In this case it meant there was no way you would park your ass in one of those panic rooms and let the hell that had broken loose rain on everyone else, on people who were as much of civilians as you were.
And Pepper was about to help you.
Steve was about to kill you later, but you would have to live long enough to let him, so that was the least of your concerns.
As the Captain had told you, you did run and tried to stay down. You just happened to pick everyone you could reach on your way and beg them to pass the information about the panic rooms over. You cursed Tony for his fondness of crowds. This would have been much easier if it was the Avengers and close circle only; mostly because nearly everyone would be able to protect themselves and wouldn’t be busy running while the Earth’s mightiest heroes tried to keep the fight away from civilians.
But life wasn’t always easy.
You spotted Tamara’s blond hair in the sea of faces and soon realized she joined you on your mission, clearly having been informed on the panic rooms as well. You saw several people you had barely become familiar with tonight, a pair of charming dorky lawyers among them; you were relieved when you saw the one with longer hair helping his very much blind friend.
Some women were losing their shoes on purpose, some due to being dragged away by the crowd. You fought your way forward, happy you weren’t wearing any killer heels, people following you like a herd; at least the individuals who hadn’t followed Pepper three floors lower.
“End of the hall, come on. Heavy door, no electronic locks. Just open it and squish as many inside as you can,” you urged a responsibly-looking man whose name you couldn’t recall at the moment, but he didn’t seem bothered by it, instantly following the instruction and speeding up to let the others in. You stayed on the corner, making sure everyone headed the right direction in their panic.
The screams were deafening, the influx of people seemingly never-ending and you silently prayed no one had been left behind. You tried very hard not to think about Steve and others fighting fucking robots.
Finally, the last guests ran past you; well, ran as much as they could. You joined the duo of lawyers (an occupancy that somehow got stuck in your mind), of whom one was an ironic representative of the justice being blind.
“You think that was everyone?” you asked, purposely not addressing one or the other. For one, you didn’t want to be rude, but to be honest, you managed to forget their actual names as well.
“Yeah, I hope so. This is insane,” the one with longer hair hurried and maybe it was only your imagination, but he appeared rather calm considering how insane the situation was.
Then again, some might say you were too. You felt like in some sort of a haze; your body was doing things you couldn’t remember ordering it, acting despite your insides clenching, heart so frantic you might as well go into a cardiac arrest. You were thankful for the autopilot mode; running side by side with the two men definitely looked like a good idea, even if you weren’t aware of coming up with it.
Until you were yanked back by your shoulder and the hem of your dress, sent flying and landing on your side.
“Shit,” you hissed as the sharp pain shot through your whole arm, your ribs crying out as well.
Fuck, fuck that hurt. How was Steve doing it, landing like that all the time and almost making it look like fun?!
Not relevant.
Really not relevant right now.
You scrambled away from the mechanical torso hovering above the ground, almost appearing to examine you. Perhaps it was wondering whether you were about to get up? You didn’t want to, FYI. The pain was coming in waves now, pulsating somewhere deep inside of your muscles. Or was it your bones?
The voices at the end of the hall fell silent and you guessed the last people made it to the room. The raging fight in the party space was still rumbling through the walls, vibrating in your chest. Or was it just your heart?
“Well, this is ironic,” the robotic voice you remembered from when the big robot crashed the party hummed.
How the hell did all the robots have the same voice?
NOT RELEVANT.
You pushed up to your feet, ready to either fight or flee, unsure which you had better chances succeeding at.
You doubted you had the slightest chance at either.
“You’re out of luck. Guess the Captain will have to deal with your loss once more.”
The two simple sentences froze you on spot, crushing something deep within you. A memory of a mad smile, of a desperate voice, of fire and agony coursing through your veins turned you into a statue.
‘With your loss.’
With your death. You were gonna die.
There was no fighting off this thing; certainly not with your simple human nature and lame skills.
You felt the uncontrollable tremor in your muscles, your throat closing off with surging panic. You couldn’t even breathe, let alone defend yourself when the mechanical monster with glowing red eyes raised its arm, the sound of charging nearly causing your ears to bleed.
You spotted Bucky with the corner of your eye, but you knew it was too late. He was too far away; no matter how much he sped up, horror having his face lose all colour, he wouldn’t make it, because he carried no long-distance weapon.
You squeezed your eyes shut, curled into yourself and thought of your soulmate, the way he held you when he found out you were alive and with your memories back.
Steve’s heart will break, for real this time, a small voice whispered in the back of your head, and he’s not gonna handle it. You sent a quick mental sorry.
Funny how you thought of him instead of yelling ‘I don’t want to fucking die!’
And the blast was still not coming.
Instead, there was a loud crash that had you snap your eyes open in an instant, only to come face to face with shocked Bucky; with Bucky, who was still several feet away, crossing the remaining distance in an impressive speed.
Another man was engaged in a furious battle of limbs, a punch there, a spin-jump-kick a second after, knocking the heap of components right onto Bucky’s metallic arm; the robot was cut in half, Bucky’s arm going through it like a knife through butter.
What was left of the machine hit the ground with a clatter, the glow in its eyes fading until it died completely.
A man in a cheap suit was standing with his bloody fists raised, facing a very cautious and panting Bucky. You wanted to say thank you to your saviours, but you couldn’t find your voice, still struggling to breathe in.
It wasn’t until a pair of warm brown eyes appeared in front of your face, blindly staring onto your mouth, until your brain rebooted and made the connection along with telling you to how to breathe in.
It was the lawyer. The very much blind lawyer, an incarnation of the famous saying, one of the dorky pair of defenders of justice.
He just saved your life. By fighting the robot like a Bruce freaking Lee.
“What the- the hell just- hap-happened?” you rasped, the palm of your unharmed arm pressed against your ribcage to feel your own heart, your chest expanding with every breath.
Still breathing. Heart still beating. Not dead. Just really fucking scared and confused.
“Yeah. I was wondering the same thing,” Bucky growled, but with an audible trace of gratitude towards the man. His worried gaze fell on you, searching your face as his intimidating fighting stance eased. “But now is not the time. Let’s get you to Steve before he loses his mind. He flipped out when he saw you helping others instead of running off.”
You took a shuddering breath, closing your eyes and letting the sudden absence of the roar of battle wash over you.
“Hey. You’re okay. It’s gone. Can I touch your shoulder? The one that’s not injured,” a voice coaxed you and you mentally catalogued it as the lawyer’s.
A low warning grumble sounded on your right, but you nodded. You tried not to think about how the hell a blind man, who was apparently moonlighting like a ninja, knew about your shoulder pulsing with agony, hence avoided it skilfully, his gentle touch grounding.
“Hmfg. Let’s go. You have a lot explaining to do, Murdock. But thanks.”
Right. Murdock. He had a nice alliteration in his name, you remembered now. Matt Murdock. His friend called himself Foggy Nelson.
“Yeah…” you whispered, fluttering your eyes open and letting the two men lead you towards where the horror had started. “Thank you, Mr. Murdock.”
“You’re welcome, miss.”
༻༺༻༺༻ღ༺༻༺༻༺
The previously fancy room was a complete mess; furniture in splinters, clothing torn to shreds, glass in shards, mechanics whirling and cracking with electricity, sometimes with sparks flying around. All of that rained with drops of blood.
Your stomach turned over, but you were able to swallow your nausea and fight the vertigo as your name was shouted from across the room, rapid strides of a huge man crossing the distance in seconds.
“Don’t touch-“ Murdock tried to warn Steve, but that man had already made up his mind, pulling you against his chest, arms winded tightly around your body.
You swallowed the cry of sharp pain in order to let him hug you and you breathed in deeply; freshly washed suit, his cologne, sweat, blood and him.
Your arm throbbed in agony, ribs crying out, but your heart was finding its peace despite still racing.
Now you were truly safe.
And Steve was alive and well. All would be good.
“Oh thank God, you’re okay,” he whispered to your mess of hair, his chest heaving. You could feel his heart hammering against your cheek, a prove of the fright you had given him.
“Punk, stop it, you’re going to smother her,” Bucky noted, sighing. “Plus, she was thrown around and did not land exactly gracefully.”
Steve released you in an instant, his face a mask of horror. Funny how Steve was much more expressive than Cap. You always loved it.
His attentive gaze was scanning you from head to toe, finally taking in your tense posture and stiff shoulders.
“What the hell are you talking about? Doll? What happened?!”
You opened your mouth uselessly, struggling to find words to break it to him gently and without freaking him out too much.
Unfortunately, Matt Murdock beat you to speaking. “A robot grabbed her-“
Steve’s eyes widened, assessing your state again, his choked inhale loud enough to hear. You shot Murdock a glare.
“Traitor,” you hissed at your saviour and then turned back to Steve, your uninjured hand laid on his shoulder.  “Mr. Lawyer here took care of it. But yeah, I’ll have a trip to hospital or medical voluntarily. It kinda hurts-“
Steve’s eyes narrowed and you corrected yourself when he wordlessly called out on your bullshit.
“-okay, kinda a lot, but it’s not as bad, considering…“
Steve closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath, only to slowly release it and giving the lawyer a look radiating immense gratitude despite him probably not being able to see it. Which, what the hell, by the way.
“Thank you.”
Matt Murdock only smiled humbly and nodded, at which Steve returned his attention to you. Taking him in, you only thought of four words.
Exhausted.
Serious.
Relieved.
Injured.
He didn’t sustain any life-threatening injuries as far as you could tell, but you did smell and see blood on him and since his opponents had been fucking robots, it was definitely his own blood. There was an angrily-looking gash on his forehead which was not bleeding anymore, few more scratches peeking through his sliced clothes.
Still. He was not unharmed.
“You’re hurt too,” you whispered. Your company clearly decided that it was the right moment to leave you some privacy and went to discuss other things. A game plan, perhaps. What happened in the first place. Oh, and who the hell Matt Murdock was anyway. You only had eyes for Steve now though. “How do you feel?”
His shoulders slumped, careful hand tenderly brushing your cheek, his eyebrow furrowing in concern and indignation.
“Like I can’t decide whether smothering you for not running like your life depended on it – which it did – is an option,” he said honestly, eyeing your injured shoulder.
“That’s fair,” you hummed, not surprised. If he could be sassy though, so could you. “But consider this: I have a great role-model for heroics in my soulmate, so there’s no wonder I tried to help, as pathetically as I did at least.”
His lips parted at the implication of your behaviour being even remotely his fault, but you could tell he was too relieved to be actually mad at you.
“Smothering it is.”
You chuckled, trying not to wince at the tiny motion of your body that sent a fresh wave of pain through you.
“…can I have my arm checked first though? Also, I think you have bigger problems than me coordinating the rescue…”
Steve unwillingly casted a glance to the group of his friends, who all glared at Tony Stark, before looking back at you.
“My biggest problem right now is to get you some medical attention. Then, yes, it does look like I have things to deal with. But remember, doll. You are not off the hook.”
You smiled at him sweetly and kissed his cheek.
“A troublemaker like me? Wouldn’t dream of it…”

Batman's Little Sister.
Series: DC Universe: Wonder Woman
Pairing: Diana Prince x Reader
Summary: Y/N Wayne, well-known in the industry for holding numerous fundraisers dedicated to charities and art preservation, caught the attention of Diana Prince. After a mission, Bruce receives news from Alfred that an invitation had been mailed to the princess of Themyscira from his very own sister.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I'd like to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who share the same passion as I, thank you for continuing to trust this campaign and I hope everyone in this room tonight will have—or continue having—a wonderful evening. Thank you again."
The room erupted in applause, smiles directed to the woman whom raised her glass of champagne with a grin plastered on her lips. She then descended from the stage and was instantly approached by a few men in suits, congratulating her and exchanging shy laughter with; completely unaware of a woman in the sparkling white long and fitted gown who observed her from afar, a little smile on her lips as she watched the girl talk animatedly with the men about how the passion came to when she was at the ripe age of nine.
Ofcourse, Diana can clearly hear you (because unbeknownst to you, and to the many she's Wonder Woman) she revelled in the pitch of your voice and how easy it was for you to communicate what you felt about helping these certain causes. On paper, there were some nasty articles about how you've taken the charity/fundraiser routes as to somehow outwit you older brother, it was nothing but a game between the two Wayne siblings on who's better in the eyes of Gotham; sadly enough because you were younger, and a woman, the articles picked on these traits as a form of inferiority between you and Bruce.
Diana couldn't understand it, here you were standing yet only a few feet away from her and you were so radiant, so undeniably pure as if there would never be anything that can knock you off of your feet because your love is endless; she couldn't understand why these people underestimate your capabilities, and paint you as some sort of villain whilst you stand next to Bruce who loved you to the very ends of the world as well.
She couldn't understand why anyone would ever want to bring shame upon your name when all you ever did was live such a normal, mundane life without trampling over anyone; she knows this because she feels it. You weren't like the many, corrupted by greed and undeniably high ideals.
But instead, you are Y/N Wayne; the youngest of the two remaining children of Martha and Thomas Wayne. The woman who calls Bruce in the middle of a Justice League meeting to ask him when he'd finally be home so that you can cook dinner for him and Alfred because you miss them, the woman who never understood why her brother was never home but doesn't pry about it because she trusts him like she trusts herself.
Batman's little sister, even if she never really knew about it.
Diana could see how much at peace you were living compared to Bruce whom set out his entire life into fighting crime to somehow avenge your parents, she could see how Bruce was doing it for the both of you, and you lived a life the way your parents would've wanted for you two. She couldn't help but be drawn to these thoughts of your decision, how this was the first time she saw you in person yet she already feels as if she'd known you since you were children.
And then your eyes connected.
You were frozen on your spot, it was as if your eyes set on the most beautiful piece of art in the museum but this one particular piece was breathing, it was alive and it offered you a warm smile. You probably looked stupid, with your mouth slightly agape as you inhaled sharply at the sight of her but before you could even return a small smile, a man blocked you from being able to further connect with the woman. You'd know the back of that head like the back of your own palm, that was your brother whom was having a word with her.
Diana Prince, she actually showed.
"Miss Wayne? Would you like more champagne?" the voice of one of the men snapped you back into your little circle of business transactions, you smiled at him and nodded before he ushered one of the waiters to pour you another glass.
If you were about to be introduced with the woman of your dreams, you'd need more than just a glass of champagne to keep you from becoming a stuttering mess.
"I see you did get the invitation." Diana's smile faltered as Bruce blocked her vision of you. Staring each other down for a few seconds, Diana shrugged before finally smiling up at Bruce.
"I don't see why I shouldn't attend."
"She doesn't know anything about us, Diana. What we do, she knows completely nothing—" Bruce furrowed his brows as Diana let out a short laugh.
"I know, and I have no intention of bringing her into it. Always so uptight Bruce, you should learn to relax, live a little," Diana straightened the shoulder pads of Bruce's tuxedo with a grin playing on her lips, contrasting to Bruce's worried look, "your sister merely wants me as an investor, nothing more. And if she insists on more.." the Amazon's grin stretched up into a bashful smile which made Bruce grab ahold of her wrist, eyeing her down as she looked up at him in amusement.
"Don't play coy with me princess, if she even gets the slightest hint of what we are and what we do I swear to your gods—"
"You know, flirting with my potential investor is one thing, but convincing her to invest in your own side of the business should've been held under your own gala, brother." Bruce withdrawn his hand from Diana's wrist, you happened to not have heard nor seen any of the rising tension between the two as they bantered about you. Diana grinned at Bruce as he gritted his teeth before stepping to the side and facing you with a soft smile.
No matter how angry Bruce gets, you always were in touch with his soft side.
"Haven't considered that maybe I was convincing her to invest to yours?" you titled your head at his statement, which Diana found completely adorable.
"Sounds to me that you've already been acquainted?" Bruce noticed the slight change in your tone, he knew you well enough to know what was running through your head and it pained him to see how you subconsciously took a slight step back as if doubting the situation at hand. And by situation, the possibility that Diana was one of Bruce's many hookups and the only reason as to why she's here is to get back at him.
"He visited The Lourve for quite some time, not our favorite guest in full honesty." Diana intervened, feeling how your radiant aura slightly dimmed. You looked at her with a small smile, nodding before inhaling sharply and composing yourself to handle the potential investor professionally.
Even if it pained you to think that yes, yet another woman who wants to be in the arms of your own brother.
"Well then Bruce, if you don't mind?" Bruce looked at the two of you before shrugging and sipping on his champagne, standing there waiting for you two to start talking. Diana could only contain her annoyance to his protective presence but looking at you made her feel less annoyed.
The Amazon felt as if no time would be wasted as long as it'd be spent drowning in the warmth of your eyes.
"Formally introducing myself this time, as if the bantering between my brother and I never happened," you offered a hand to Diana who instantly took it in hers in a firm grip, which took you aback for a second before you composed yourself with the award-winning smile on numerous magazine covers, "Y/N Wayne, pleasure to make your acquaintance."
"Diana Prince, and trust me Miss Wayne—the pleasure is all mine." you hated how her voice almost sounded velvety against the chattering of the guests in the museum, and how soft her hands were, her grip still firm yet seemingly familiarizing the warmth you were currently offering.
This woman, if she were to get back at your brother by enchanting you—she's already doing one hell of a job.
"Would you like a tour around the museum, Miss Prince?"
Time had never flown by as quickly as it did spent with Diana Prince, she was everything a simple woman of an artistic eye like you could ever wish to become; two peas in a pod, you'd talk about a certain piece and Diana would indulge you in information you were sure you'd never even heard of about it. She was this enigma of surprises, it was as if you'd find something about her whilst she shared her personal experiences amongst the artistic world, then you'd find out something completely different about her that had you reeling for more.
You hated it, if ever this woman was actually here simply walking next to you and knocking you off your feet just to get back at your brother—
"I'd like to negotiate the investment." you tore your eyes off of the large painting in one of the many exclusive, executives only areas of the museum; your eyes set on the woman that stood rather closely next to you even though you were the only ones in the spacious room. She was staring rather intensely at you, as if she always had been even though just a few moments ago you were laughing at a certain piece that you had a slip of misinformation from that she corrected.
But all good things must come to an end, don't they? Whether it was being with practically the most beautiful woman on Earth that slightly towered over you, for a moment it felt as if she was there just to solely be with you but then it always had to be about Bruce.
"Okay." Diana raised her brow at the sudden change of tone, your eyes tore themselves away from hers and instead it casted on nothing in particular. The Amazon eyed you down, waiting for something else to come out of your precious mouth because you always seemed to have managed to keep a professional composure.
"Your current campaign, the preservation of this evenings pieces, the upcoming ones, and what you'll be deciding to do next.." your brows furrowed at her words, this wasn't how it usually went with Bruce's women; it usually ended up with them investing a certain amount to only the current campaign, followed by them trying to seduce you into bringing them to the Wayne manor—somewhat getting a reaction from Bruce once he sees them in his house the next morning—then that was it, it never went beyond that.
"..I think you have a great vision, Miss Wayne. I'd be honored if you'd let me support that."
Did I just.. caught the attention of Diana Prince?
"Vision..?" Diana eyed you in worry, you looked as if you were about to pass out right infront of her. She instantly reached over to grab your empty glass of champagne, a hand softly placed on your arm as she set your glass on top of the glass compartment.
"Yes? Are you alright, Miss Wayne?" you let out a short, breathless laugh.
"Jesus Christ, if you're going to stick around alot after this you'll have to get used to calling me 'Y/N'." Diana's lips pulled up into a grin that made your heart flutter.
And ofcourse, Diana could hear ever single beat.
"I'd like that, Y/N." you shook your head, trying to push away the thought of how angelic your name sounded from her lips. Finally composing yourself, you ran your fingers through your hair as you stared across the room, unaware of how Diana slowly eyed you down from head to toe after the action.
"If you're planning on doing more, then this talk alone won't suffice. We need documents, and lawyers, consultants—"
"Y/N," you looked at Diana and her eyes looked into yours softly, soft enough to almost make you die inside, "one step at a time."
"Okay." Diana reached over to place her hands on your cheeks, you were frozen on your spot as she smiled rather lovingly at you, which oddly enough even if the conversation was about her investing to your campaign—it felt more than that.
It was almost as if it was a marriage proposal.
A promise of something greater than a simple investment.
"But first, I'd like to hear you say my name; please say my name, Y/N." Diana's eyes scanned your entranced eyes, just as you looked deeply into hers.
A promise of forever.
"Diana."
Tumblr media
This is my first ever Y/N published fic. Just recently, I got into reading comics and I chose to head first into the DC universe because I've always been curious about it. I had fun writing this and hopefully, those who'll read this would find it entertaining to say the least.
Anyways, I'll be making more of these once creativity pushes me again. God, I love Diana Prince so much right now it's insane.
Laters for now,
RANIMA.

Magnificent Scoundrels- We’re the Best
“This is Unit Delta-5-9!  We need immediate reinforcements!  We’re getting torn up over here!”
“Copy that, Delta-5-9.  Who are the hostiles in your area?”
“Commander Shepard is here!  Repeat, Commander Shepard is here!”
“Copy that.  Anyone else?”
“There’s one guy in some sort of silver armor.  With a spear!  He’s tearing up our guys like it’s no problem!”
“...repeat last.”
“Yes, he’s got a spear!  And there are these two guys in trench coats, too!”
“What are they doing?”
“Uh… dancing?” “...”
“And there’s some other guy, too.  He’s moving too fast for us to track, and… where did he go?”
“Hello.”
“Wha-” [Several gunshots are fired.  Transmission ends.]  -Transmission Intercepted from Attacking Force Delta by combined Quarian/Starfleet/Mechanicus operatives
“The elevators in this place are so goddamn slow.”  Shepard shrugged at Drake, a move which made him bump against Vir.
“Yeah, I know.  Cramped, too.”
“Got that right,” muttered Quill as he jostled for position with Cooper.  Drake sighed and activated his wrist computer.
“Might as well do something useful.  Ordelphine!  Saul!  Whoever the hell’s up there.  You might have heard, but we have problems down here.  Every available crewmember is to deploy with full… everything.  Heavy weapons, heavy armor, tell Garang to wear the power armor, and get Kraiker, Mark, Oliver, and Muelka to get down here with all their stuff.”  He paused for a moment, then pressed the transmit button with almost indecent haste.  “And tell Muelka to not set anything on fire!”  He shrugged at Shepard and Quill’s curious expressions.  “I think it would be best if my crew and I were remembered for saving the Citadel, not blowing it up.”  Vir shrugged and nodded.
“Makes sense.  Actually, I ought to get my crew down here too.”  He tapped the communications button on the side of his Iron Eye helmet.  “Simone!  Cannon!  Get the Marines, Valhallans, and Drev clan down here!  This is a full battle.  Extended combat operations, so be ready for that.”
“Understood, sir.  I…  uh… Conn wants me to tell you that… “A vampire masturbating in front of a mirror.  Bet you didn’t see that coming.”  What the hell?  Conn, you little-”  Vir shook his head.
“It’s fine.  So as long as he stays there.  We don’t want to freak too many people out.”
“Yes, sir.  Although that means I’m stuck with him,” responded a slightly put-out Simone.
“Have fun!” replied Vir with a bit too much cheerfulness than was required.
“I’m sure I will, sir.”  Vir released the comms button on his helmet and shook his head again.
“I’m not so sure I want to meet Conn,” intoned Quill.
“Take my advice and just… don’t,” replied Vir.  Quill nodded.
“Fair enough.”  he rubbed his chin for a moment.  “At least I don’t have to contact anyone.  Everyone from my ship is in the other elevator.”
“Maybe you should have gone with them,” muttered Cooper as he jostled against Quill once more.
“No.  Drax is there, and he takes up way too much space as it is.”  Shepard shook his head at their banter, and activated his comms as well.
“Miranda, get the ground team down here.  The entire ground team.”
“Should I come along as well?” replied a woman’s Australian-accented voice.  Shepard considered for a moment.
“Yes.  Tell Joker not to get the Normandy too beat up while we’re gone.”
“Understood, Commander.”  Cooper looked over from where he was pressed against the glass.
“So, we have that down.  Now what?”  Shepard activated a button, and a glowing orange hologram sprang to life around his left arm.  He pressed something else, and a map of the Citadel came up.
“We’re here.” He tapped near the Council chambers.  “There’s a pretty hefty attacking force outside, fighting C-Sec officers and Turian shock troopers outside.  We clear the attackers, set up a space where shuttle reinforcements can land, and proceed from there.”  Everyone nodded.
“Well, that’s a better plan than most of what we do.”  The group looked at each other speculatively.
“Yeah.  Yeah, it is,” said Quill.  “Reminds me.  Have I ever told you about the time where I saved the galaxy with only 17% of a plan?”
Elsewhere on the Citadel
It was decided that Master Chief would take up the rear, as eight feet of muscle and Mjolnir armor would be a reasonable deterrent for most pursuers.  There had been a short but intense argument over who would lead, but Kirk had suggested a combined force of bodyguards to placate everyone.
Now, a group of various bodyguards led the delegates through the under-tunnels of the Citadel to safety, with Cain, Kirk, and Solo sprinkled throughout the formation.  The delegates murmured to each other, careful to not let their words be overheard.  Each had groups of powerful special forces soldiers at their command, and each was wondering what to do with them, or if and when to deploy them.
“Councillors!  We are under heavy fire!  Some of the C-Sec officers have turned traitor, and the attackers are taking more of the Citadel.  We need reinforcements!” came a desperate cry over the communication systems.  Sparatus, the Turian Councillor, replied immediately.
“Hierarchy soldiers are currently on the ground.  We’ll send more, but it will take a while for their shuttles to get there.  You’ll have to hold,” he replied curtly.  Several other diplomats heard the exchange.  Normally, many would not have lent their forces to the fight, but if it meant the difference of getting out alive or dead, it wasn’t even a question.
“Captain Faro, this is Thrawn.  Deploy our troopers immediately.  Have TIE’s escort the shuttles.  Keep the Destroyers in a holding position.”
“Captain, this is Agent Omicron.  Have the ODSTs ready to drop immediately.”
“Watch Captain, this is Inquisitor Vail.  Order the Scions to deploy in high altitude grav drop.  Have the Kill Team and the Assassins ready in the teleportariums.”
“Captain, this is Marder.  Have the Pilots stand ready in their Titans and be ready to deploy.”
Elsewhere on the Citadel
The elevator sounded a clear, high ding! and the doors slid slowly open.
“Fucking finally,” muttered Drake.  The next elevator over sounded a similar chime and disgorged Quill’s crew, looking none happier than the Scoundrels over the slow ride down.  The sounds of gunfire and screams filled the air from just beyond the indoor plaza at the foot of the Council Chambers.  “Well, back to something I know better.  Actually…”  Drake’s face turned into a sly grin.  “Tali!  Scotty!  Can you two give me control of the P.A. system?”
“Why do you want the P.A. system?” came Scotty’s, well, Scottish bur.
“Uh… psychological warfare?”  There was a pregnant pause on the other end.  Drake tried again.  “For funsies?”
“...fine.”  There was another pause.  “You have control Drake,” came a very tired sounding Scotty.
“Wonderful!” replied Drake, utterly delighted.  “Now, here comes the fun part.”
------------------------------------------------
Major Viter of the Turian Hierarchy cursed as a bullet chipped the wall he was kneeling behind.  The Cerberus attackers and traitor C-Sec agents had his combined forces of Hierarchy soldiers and loyal C-Sec agents pinned down in front of the Citadel Tower.  They had held well enough for the past ten minutes of grueling firefights, long enough to give the Council and the other delegates enough time to escape.  Viter didn’t care much for the other diplomats, but he had been ordered to hold, and death was a preferable alternative to disobeying those orders.  Another volley of fire raked the wall, and he shrank back from it.  Cerberus was getting crafty.  They knew the Hierarchy shock troopers were far superior to the C-Sec agents under his command, so they endeavored to keep the Turians pinned down for as long as possible.  Not good.  He turned to his left and yelled at his communications officer.
“Where are those reinforcements?  We can’t hold the tower without them!”
“They’re still ten minutes out!  And that’s not including the time it’ll take the shuttles to find a safe landing zone!”  Viter cursed.  “But someone said we have additional reinforcements en-route.  Some kind of special team,” added the communications officer.  Viter calmly shot down a traitor C-Sec agent who was stupid enough to poke their head in the open before turning back.
“What kind of special team?”  But before the comms officer could replay, the Citadel’s P.A. system fizzed to life.  Cerberus, C-Sec, and Turian soldiers looked up with confusion as an unmistakably human show tune started to play.
“Yippie yay!  There’ll be no wedding bells for today!”  There was a flash of electric blue, and a Cerberus trooper took a shot to her head, which promptly melted, complete with horrifying screams from its wearer.  Viter looked back to the Tower’s entrance.  Standing there was a black haired, black coated human wielding a silvery, triple barreled rifle.  Flanking him was another masked and trenchcoated human, a small (about up to viter’s knee), rodent-like creature holding a full-sized machine gun, and… Commander Shepard.  Back from the dead?  To borrow a human expression: Oh boy.  This just got interesting.
As the abominably cheerful tune continued to play, a figure clad in solid grey metal armor and some massive, bare-chested, grey and orange humanoid alien ran past Viter at speeds he didn’t think were possible for a biped to produce.  He did a double take.  They were holding a spear and two knives respectively.  Did they have a death wish?  The Cerberus and C-Sec attackers seemed to think so, as they stepped forward as one to cut the running figures down.
With no warning, a man wearing a strange set of advanced-looking armor materialized beyond a Cerberus trooper wielding a machine gun, drew a pistol, gave a cheerful “Hi!”, blew the back of the trooper’s head apart, and disappeared.  Farther down, a Cerberus combat engineer looked down at his chest, where a lithe blade appeared through his breastbone.  A green-skinned alien woman gave him a surreptitious wink, and, before his comrades could react, faded into oblivion.
Within the space of a second, the attacking line devolved into panic.  The gunmen behind the running figures opened fire, forcing the Cerberus personnel to keep their heads down as the two sprinting figures collided with them at full tilt.
The grey figure’s spear slid through a trooper’s neck armor joint, producing a gurgled sigh as he crumpled to the ground.  The silvery figure spun around, and with pinpoint precision, impaled another Cerberus trooper through the joints of her armor.  The massive grey humanoid went flying into a group of traitorous C-Sec agents with reckless and utterly terrifying abandon, stabbing wildly.
The green-skinned woman appeared once more, and gracefully cut down two Cerberus soldiers with just as many strokes of her keen-bladed swords.  The Turians and loyal C-Sec agents were now all firing at the disorganized attackers, Shepard was killing with horrifying, lethal accuracy, the rodent-creature was cackling maniacally as it fired it’s huge machine gun, the two trenchcoated men were dancing along to the music over the P.A. system while firing off precise, perfectly timed-to-the-beat shots, there was a walking tree now that was impaling people with wooden growths from its arms, and the man in advanced armor, who had been appearing and disappearing was now running on the walls, almost horizontally, supported by only thrusters on the back of the suit and a hand held out for balance.  In short, utter mayhem.
The man hopping from wall to wall jumped down and kicked a Cerberus trooper with enough force to crack her helmet.  The grey armored man and green-skinned woman impaled two more opponents with perfect synchronicity.  Viter overloaded a Cerberus soldier’s shields, then shot him in the head.  The last enemy, a panicking traitorous C-Sec agent, turned and ran, only to be gunned down by the black coated human.
The grey armored figure removed their helmet to reveal the cheerful face of a green-eyed, blond-haired human man.  Shepard and he walked over to Major Viter, who turned and stared at them with an expression that was equal parts confusion, shock, and gratefulness.
“I’m assuming you’re the team that was sent to assist me?” he asked.  “Pardon me asking, but who exactly are you?”  Shepard opened his mouth to speak, but was interrupted by the black coated man.
“We’re the Magnificent Scoundrels, and we put the laughter into slaughter!”  Shepard’s mouth moved spasmodically for a few moments before the blond haired man stepped in.
“Don’t… don’t listen to… him.”  The black coated man shrugged.
“Yeah.  I get that a lot.”  Shepard rolled his eyes.
“We’re a team made up from a variety of different governments present, and we’re here to help take back the Citadel.”  Shepard looked around, experienced eyes taking in the mayhem around them.  “What now?” he asked Viter.  Viter’s mandibles moved in an expression that Shepard recognized as turian thoughtfulness.
“Well, we press on and clean up the Citadel.  But we,” he gestured at the group, “Can’t do it alone.  We’re going to need help.”  Shepard and the blond man shared a knowing glance.
“Don’t worry, ‘cause help you’re going to get.”
If you have any comments, questions, concerns, criticisms, questions, or requests, feel free to tell me.  For the curious, the song is called “Jingle Jangle Jingle.”  I recommend finding the Fallout New Vegas version ‘cause apparently it’s the only remastered version on the internet.

Act 2 -- The Two Suns Rise
The coffins raise;
the people fall;
into a land beyond what the People understand.
A magnificent kingdom where the two suns set;
A magnificent kingdom of peace, of glory, of [].

They take their seats.
The seats of the Audience creak as they [sit/lay back/laze/choke].
Laughter fills, overflows the room.
The foolishness of man.
The folly of man.
The cowardice, the stupidity of man.
They witness it all. The actor who was given a broken script, tied together with wire that shatters at a passing wind.
It will begin. The performer knows. They have been waiting all their life.
[Prepare yourselves. A grand adventure begins now. Of the folly/foolishness/demise of man.]
The Audience [cheers/screams/vomits] their applause.
They trust the one who arranges a cast before them -- of masked beings, and of the mask on the table, unused. They pick up their folding fan, the cloth, and smile.
[Let us begin our show.]
--
"...Good morning, Cadence."
...There's a knock at the door.
The process to waking up were always the same. Ritsuka would always pop up around now, anyways -- calling for me, rapping their knuckles against my door carefully.
The heat, however, would do the rest of the work in awaking me. That same warmth that tended to lull me to sleep...
"...My lord."
...It's suffocating.
"...My lord, you appear to be having some trouble breathing."
...My eyes slowly blinked open, to the sight of a smiling -- if mildly worried- Ushiwakamaru before me. Her mask lay off to the side, as it were the night before, though with the tight vice on us inflicted by Gorgon's tail -- it wouldn't be likely that she could use it anyways.
"...A bit. Nothing I can't recover from."
...Easier said than done, however -- the grip of, well, Gorgon was hard to overstate. Like King Kong grasping hold of their victim atop a tower, though perhaps a bit more comfortable.
"...That said... Gorgon, are you awake?"
...The sleep in my eyes slowly gave way to the darkened quarters I had by now called my home. A decently-sized kotatsu, what was effectively the replacement for a bed at this point, lay in the middle -- about all I could see in the dark, save for the faint outline of Gorgon rolling about a bit past Ushi's head.
"...Yes. As much as I would prefer to have continued resting, your movements have..."
"...Go figure."
...In a moment, the vice grip lessened -- and, perhaps not unlike a bat fresh out of hell, I desperately crawled out, pulling the collar of my shirt to let in some much-needed cooler air.
It seemed Ushi was not too far off, either, making a beeline for her mask, and letting it 'disintegrate' into her Spirit Origin once more, as Gorgon slowly stood up and stretched herself out.
Allowing myself to stumble over to the light switch, finally giving the lot of us some much-needed illumination, my eyes shifted to the lady resting on the bed. 'Presumably, the heat was a bit much.'
Even so -- despite her position being at ease, the woman's blue eyes shot directly over towards me.
"...You're awake, Cadence. I would hope you're prepared to be furthering our rule today, as well."
"I think we have slightly bigger concerns, don't we?"
At my response, the lady only smirked -- sitting up on the bed, she'd rest her head on her closed fist, and raise an eyebrow towards me.
"This Singularity, too, is an obstacle to ruling. You would do well to remove it."
"I wonder how the lot of us would even rule to begin with."
The lady sighed out, as though aware of something I were not.
"You would not be the first king to hold with you a concubine."
"--I'm sorry?!"
"Why, as long as we may share in those honours, I see no reason why it could not work."
Though, she'd stop talking at the glare of Gorgon -- and the snakes, too. At that, she'd stand, walking to the door, though waiting for me to open it.
"Your anger need not be directed at me -- not when you'd be better set serving the King."
"--You damned..."
"I'm sure there will be plenty of cronies to spend your anger on, wherever we are to be headed. Destroy them in my place."
...Despite the cold delivery of her words, the joking jabs certainly worked as intended. Taking care not to say a word until the tensions cooled slightly, I slipped the door open -- in time for Morgan to march through the door, and in time for Gorgon to 'calmly' leave after her. Once the two had set out, Ushiwaka stepped out -- and as did I, just after.
"...My lord, those two always seem to be on the verge of fighting. I would hope not over..."
"I'd sincerely hope the title of 'bad harem anime protagonist' isn't one added to my record. I already have enough titles as is."
"Courtesy of Ritsuka?"
"Who else?"
...The warrior beside me laughed, gently, and began to up her pace -- seemingly intent on catching up to Gorgon and Morgan, who seemed to already be a ways ahead on the path to the Command Room.
"My lord -- you should come a bit faster, you know. Wouldn't want to miss out on Ritsuka's prime explanations, would you?"
'...Are those really so looked forward to?'
--
...The Command Room was a full place that day.
The Coffins meant for each of the many Masters remained lined up, ready for use -- though it rarely saw a time where more than a few would be closed, and utilized.
At the midpoint between each one, Ritsuka stood -- their smile far weaker than before, at a glance, only to perk up as they felt the gaze of their colleagues.
To their right stood a familiar face -- the goddess summoned not long earlier, Tlazolteotl. Adjusting the headdress upon her head, her gaze settled on me with a borderline bone-chilling smirk before returning to the others.
'...She just keeps doing that.'
After a moment spent waiting for each individual to line up -- myself, Ushiwakamaru, Gorgon, Morgan, Tlazolteotl, and the Caster of Rakugo -- Ritsuka clapped their hands together.
"...Alright! Da Vinci's a little busy today, so I've been put in charge of debriefing this stuff. Olga's never liked the weird stuff this Singularity's got, so she's sitting this one out too, the coward."
'...Da Vinci, did you curse us?'
"Long story short, we've found us a Singularity in the midst of Canada. I... can't really confirm much about what's going on in there, and neither can the others."
...Ritsuka's hand moved up to their cheek, scratching it lightly.
"What I do know is, so far as I'm aware, it's in a city called 'Carcosa' in Manitoba. There's a whole new thing there -- a monarchy -- and whatever it's doing is causing this mess."
'...Carcosa... The capital of Canada.' Simple enough information -- truthfully, what bothered me was what the King were doing down there. 'During my youth, he was far kinder, wasn't he? What changed so much that a Singularity would come about?'
...Though, Ritsuka gave little time for me to process that.
"That's the gist of it. We've been watching it over the past few weeks, and it's just now gotten to the point where we can head to it. The crew we've gathered here should be able to take care of things just fine. We've got a few minutes 'til everything's ready, so do what you need to now."
Calling the meeting off just as quickly as they started it, the uniformity of the Command Room was just as quickly split off -- while Ushiwaka and Morgan turned to examine their coffins, Tlazolteotl pulled both them and Gorgon together -- most likely, whispering some nonsense to them -- before breaking off again.
'...Though, whatever she said, the three of them...'
Surely, I were just making it up -- seeing those three suddenly so serious seemed ridiculous. 'Maybe a bit of fresh air could fix my head, before I jump in.'
So, that in mind, I slipped out of the command room to find the closest equivalent to fresh air -- an empty Chaldean hallway with an A/C unit blowing into it.
...
'Silence.'
Even the commotion of chatter and footsteps in the Command Room was blocked out by the noisy, yet calming sound of an out-of-date air conditioner blowing both air and noise through the vents. Such a thing could easily have you wondering how a unit could be so loud -- and surely, I were, up until I felt a 'friendly' slap to my back.
"--Arash?!"
"Not quite."
My gaze moved behind me -- met with an uncharacteristically calm grin, from a Rider who almost immediately had me frozen still.
"--Please get away from me, Columbus."
...A thief. A horrible thief, of the worst order -- but for once in his life, he heeded instructions, and stepped back.
"...Hm, just as they stated. Go figure you wouldn't trust me even when I'm acting so pleasant."
"--Couldn't you just go die..?!"
"Not yet. Master, there's still money to gain from this place, and I'm not leaving 'til my coffers are filled to bursting and then some. But that's why you've ought to succeed."
...
'...What?'
"--You know as well as I do you're being unsummoned after this!"
"Maybe so, but you'd better believe I'm taking some of that sweet Canadian syrup with me to the Throne. Bring some back when you roast that place to the ground, you hear?"
'...Right, there was a black market of the stuff.'
At any normal occasion, I would likely have called Columbus on his bluff -- that, surely, he'd be all too happy to take the Singularity's residents too, for whatever end he desired.
...But he just turned around, and moved away from the route to the Command Room.
"I own the people here as well as anything else, Master. I may as well gain some stacks off that little Quebecois trade just to spite that place."
'...Go figure. That wasn't encouragement, just a command.'
Briefly, perhaps I would have considered an almost-polite thing coming from a man like that to be an attempt at raising morale -- but, of course, a man like him would have too much trouble not showing his true colours.
'...No wonder I don't trust that thief.'
...Allowing my heart to settle, I turned back to the Command Room -- or at least, the route to it that surely only took me a few hallways.
...Perhaps out of a mixture of spite for that cocky bastard, and from the fact his raw rudeness distracted me from my worries, I took my steps back to the final part of my journey.
--
...The coffins were never comfortable. Certainly, it only made sense -- they were called coffins.
Beside me, in adjacent coffins, lay Kagekiyo and Gorgon -- hard to miss the latter, as the coffin would usually have to be adjusted for her mildly larger size. Morgan had situated herself somewhere nearby, perhaps adjacent to Gorgon just to mess with her a bit, and Tlaz was... somewhere.
As the Chaldea staff looked over each coffin, fussed over Ritsuka's messily-worn Mystic Code, doted on the Caster right next to them, and listened to Olga barking orders in a terrified-yet-certain demeanour, Ritsuka's eyes settled on me from across the room.
[...You ready for this one?] They mouthed out the words to me, giving a wink at the end of it.
[...Ready as I can be.]
...The coffin doors closed--
--Those words uttered by the machine, the spiritron unsummoning, all of it --
--It had grown the same as always. Even the coffins, mechanical as they seemed, uncomfortable as they were, were familiar -- comforting, almost. Part of 'home.'
'...Part of home, huh?'
...Even thinking of 'home,' only that kotatsu would come to mind.
Perhaps it was due to the time that passed, but that empty, dark room in Toronto felt like little more than a passing dream. The loneliness that felt so stifling back then, now seemed so far away, as though it could never reach me.
'...This is my last mission. And... Afterwards, I'll go home.'
'...After this mission, I'll find a home, and... Everything will be okay.'
...Even when my soul left my form, perhaps to send itself to the final Singularity, there were no worries left. Not even the fear of the transfer failing.
Wherever I opened my eyes next, this would be my final fight.
--
"...Girls, would it be too harsh to bring you three in for a little talk~? It's about your hubby."
The mischievous voice of Tlazolteotl had captured the ears of the three women -- Ushiwakamaru, who turned on her heel with a curious gaze, answered first, as Gorgon gazed behind her with a long, long sigh out.
"What's the problem? If you're due to take the high ground about his circumstances..."
"Not quite, Ushi. I'd be in no place to talk, you know -- certainly, you aren't the only ones he has acting unwise."
While Gorgon opened her mouth to respond -- likely with a large amount of swears -- Tlaz placed a finger to the being's mouth, and shushed her.
"...Sort out your problems now. Figure out what your relationship looks like -- something I must do as well -- before this Singularity is over."
...At that, Morgan finally found herself bothered to turn around and listen.
"...And why is that?"
"...Ritsuka. They told me something."
--
...Cold ground awakened me.
Dirt surely stuck to my cheek as I sat up, holding my forehead in the palm of my spare hand to dissuade the headache that tended to come of these rayshifts.
My gaze slowly sharpened, my eyes now settling on the few people before me.
Caster, who had landed sitting down, glancing directly up at the sky.
Gorgon, who was only now standing up, her brow furrowed, faintly cursing.
Kagekiyo -- who was standing still in the dark soil beneath, as though they had been there the entire time.
Morgan, who was dusting off the dirt from her dress -- making use of the gentle moonlight to figure out where it all was.
Tlazolteotl, fixing her poncho as to show some modesty, warming her hands with some steam.
Ritsuka, face down in the dirt.
The large, faintly yellow moon, shining down upon us, and a sky completely blackened -- lacking even the hint of a star.
A forest surrounding us, of evergreen trees, grown as though each intended to touch the sky.
And a woman with red hair, a crow at her side, whose blue eyes suddenly pierced through the lenses of her glasses, through the air -- directly towards us.
"...Who are all of you?"

Rain Plays SWTOR: Solo Macrobinoculars (most of it), Imperial side, Pt. 2
I'm back with Part II of the Solo Macrobinoculars Run. To reiterate, I knew going in that I would not be able to complete the entire chain, but I'm writing a guide on the parts of the quest that can be soloed. This site does not like links, so to find part 1 please click on the #swtor macrobinoculars tag.
Where we left off, I'd just finished scanning targets on Belsavis, and we were ready to hit the Rakatan temple.
A Spy's Secret: Belsavis
How to get there: if you scanned the target in the Tomb last, you are actually positioned really well to get to the next part of the mission. If not, take the Rakatan Transport to the Lower Prison Magma Transport stop and then make your way out into the Tomb area.
In the front room, the order for making the grid go away is: 1. Click the third panel. 2. Click the fourth panel. 3. Kill the droids. 4. Click the two things on the sides of the walls above the power generator. 5. Click the fourth panel again. 6. Turn so that you are facing the Rakatan Transporter and look up. There's a clickable near the ceiling. Click it. The grid will go down. At the second grid: 1. Slow down. In my experience, the second (deadly) laser grid did not load right away with the rest of the room, so Viri ran right into it. 2. You have to click the wall panel five times. Once to open it; the rest to input the code. You will see the panels light up with the colors as you add them.  3. The code is Red, Green, Yellow, Green.
Tumblr media
In the Cryoban tank area:  1. Click the tanks and manage the pipes ONE AT A TIME. You need to click the tank, follow the white smoke coming out of the pipes on the ceiling and click on the ceiling junctions ONCE each to route the cryoban to the door to break it down. When the door weakens enough you can click on the pipe right above it, and then the door itself.
The first time I tried this I blithely opened all the tanks and found myself completely unable to figure out which pipes I'd done, which I hadn't, and how the hell to extricate myself from the mess I'd created. I ended up resetting this part of the mission (which meant scanning all three targets on Belsavis again). Learn from me. :(
The final boss here is relatively easy, but it made me sad he was Ortolan. I kind of hated killing him.
Tumblr media
Now, it's time to scan more targets. A lot of these are in really obvious places, on top of major landmarks. Alderaan
- QT to Thul Research Camp. - QT to Outpost Talarn. - QT to Thul Supply Camp, and then go south. It's in the heart of the Republic gameplay area but you can avoid pretty much all combat if you are careful about where you walk/speed. - QT to Panteer Hideout. The target is on the Panteer castle, you can scan easily from the bridge while you're still surrounded by friendly NPCs rather than wading into enemy NPC territory.
Balmorra
- The first target is right in the middle of Sobrik, where you come in on the planet. If you didn't do this one first, the closest QT point is the Sunken Sarlacc Cantina. - QT to Bugtown. - QT to Markaran Imperial Outpost. The target is on the Okara Droid Factory building so you can get it from a considerable distance. - QT to Sundari Imperial Outpost. It's on a building of the Balmorran Arms Factory that is against the rocks so it's hard to see the target from a distance, but it's scannable well before you reach the factory.
Voss
- QT to Ghen's Outlook. Your target is actually on the building tower on the base, so you just need to get a little ways away to scan it. - QT to Pilgrim Retreat. The target you're scanning is right on top of the Shrine of Healing, so as soon as you can see the Shrine from the road, you should be able to get your scan. - QT to Outpost Skyline. The target is in the heart of the Gormak Lands, so it's a bit of a schlep. It's on top of the canopy in the area that marks the entrance to the Gormak Lands. - QT to Outpost Overseer, and just hop on the main road. It's on the top of the Gormak arch.
At the end of this scanning mission, IR-77 will pay you another ambush visit, stronger than before.
Tumblr media
Nar Shaddaa
- QT to Keeling's Listening Post. If you don't have that one, the Corellian Sector. - QT to the Slippery Slope Cantina, which is the closer of the two QT points on the Promenade. -- QT to the Imperial Data Center, shuttle to Network access or pick up the heroic Hunger of the Vrbithers and use the provided transport. Be aware that even if you are not doing the heroic,  you will likely have to contend with enemy vrbither NPCs as you move to the scanning point.
All the Pieces - Nar Shaddaa
This is the last bit you will be able to do solo, and it's quite a grand finale. To get there, QT to Network Security Access.
The first obstacle is a group of four gold droids. You should be able to beat them, but it's a reminder that the next sections are intended for groups.
To beat the two discs on the floor, stand on them one by one. Put your companion to passive so they are standing with you. The discs will eventually explode and the door will open.
On the dock, every enemy NPC droid is gold, so try not to pull them all at once. Force pushing them off the platform does not work; they will return.
Tumblr media
Now your character will get to pretend they're in an action movie and recreate that sequence where Anakin Skywalker jumped out of the speeder into Coruscant traffic! This is a jumping puzzle like no other, and it's long. You will be jumping from speeder to speeder in heavy Nar Shaddaa traffic. What's that you said? Why didn't your character just commandeer a speeder instead of doing this? Shhhh. Jumping puzzle time.
You will likely die at least once while attempting it. Probably far more often. The good news is that there are three save points along the way. As long as you've reached these points, you will not need to do the entire puzzle again. You can hop on the speeder and just speed to the save point. If you die on the last boss, you'll be taken back to the beginning, but again, you can hop on those three speeders, one after the other, to get back to the boss.
Tumblr media
With the jumps, if you don’t see a car close to you- wait. A lot of the time the vehicle you need to jump on will pull up along side. Sometimes they will be so close that you don't even have to jump, you can just drop.
Rocket boosts can be useful in a few places but be careful, it's very, very easy to overshoot these jumps and fall to your death.
Tumblr media
For a few jumps, you're actually going to use grapples. Mouse around on the larger ships that are too far away to jump and they may have a grappling hook you can click.
Take your time. The traffic is rushing beneath you, but you can take all the time you need to figure out the safe jumps. If the vehicle you need has veered away wait, it will come back.
At a few points (the save points near the speeders) you will face gold and silver mobs. If you're soloing this with your companion, it will be difficult. I ended up throwing Heroic Moment at the last one.
IR-77 will greet you after you defeat the final mob, and he'll be ready to destroy you. He has a knockback, which really isn't a pleasant prospect when you're on a moving, narrow platform. Be prepared for it and try to dispatch him as quickly as possible.
Tumblr media
Once you reach the large skiff, you will face Maki'Voro. It's a challenging fight and he doesn't go down easily. He has a very wicked knockback, so try to make sure you're angled so that he can't knock you over the edge. You will know he's about to throw it when he suddenly flies into the air.
I ignored the adds, with the exception of the nanodroid shield froid that appears over Maki'Voro's head. This droid has a potent heal, so you need to interrupt it and destroy it ASAP.
After Maki'Voro has been destroyed, you have reached the end of the Macrobinoculars quest line that you can solo. The final H4 requires four players because there are four panels you have to stand on simultaneously.
I really hope that SWTOR's devs will consider adjusting this final H4 so it can be soloed, especially since it seems that only one part of it specifically requires multiple players. They pulled an Oricon here, since everything except the last H4 is soloable. I knew going in that I would not be able to finish the quest line, but I'm guessing a lot of people who begin it do not have that knowledge. It's a very well designed questline with interesting gameplay and story, and it's a shame that solo players can't finish it. If Bioware really wants the content to be played and enjoyed, forcing grouping is perhaps not the best way to achieve that goal.
In the meantime, if you're like me and really hate grouping, you can still get a lot of interesting gameplay out of this mission chain. You just can't finish it. If you've played Shroud of Memory you know what happens to the Shroud, so perhaps, like me, you can try to incorporate that into your own headcanon to fill in the blanks of the mission you can't do.

Ok and before I forget and i Likely will and I don’t have the attention span to actually try and take this anywhere right at this precise moment but there’s one musical thing that’s likely as not a just a musical ref cause haha I can do it it’s my soundtrack, my game you can’t stop me but-
There’s this song I ran across ages ago that toby fox did also compose. 74, Sung by Itoki Hana, and I Honestly have to wonder how much of it is also supposed to link in thematically. Like this wouldn’t be the first time Toby’s done this, what with Megalovania being from 1 and then 2 different stories and each pulling a generally similar vibe and intent behind them near as I can tell (there was an essay that explained this way better but I cannot for the life of me tell you where I actually read it save the greater seas of Tumblr so you know, that’s probably lost forever)
And I’m sitting here looking at the lyrics of this song, and Where I at least hear the music parts, it is in Welcome to the City, which is the bit where it’s just Kris, The Soul and Noelle, and given the whole song and all i have to wonder if there’s any intended link.
Cause man, looking at the picture used, and then the lyrics it certainly feels like it.
Now purposes of this here analysis I suggest you go listen to the song. 74, Itoki Hana, Toby Fox should get you where you need to be. If nothing else it’s a good song.
Now probably not, but it does at least put me in the mind to look at it like it does even if it’s only more a thing i vaguely heard that sorta sounds like this sparked an idea and honestly there’s worse places to grow your thoughts.
So, in 74, the song more or less comes from the pov of the Princess in a tower, watching a brave knight ascend to rescue her, through the various traps and trials that are within the tower...That she set and put there. And she is not (or she is in addition to being) actually a princess. She’s a dragon, pretending to be a princess to lure in knights to feel a degree of validation, to feel well...Important. Valuable. Special you know?
And I guess it’s not hard to see some potential parallels going on given that we find that Kris is opening the Fountains. Or is ALSO opening the Fountains. We’ve seen one for sure, and the implication SUGGESTS that they’re the one doing it in general, but we won’t know for sure til the game’s completely out. But for now, let’s assume they’re doing them all.
With that, We have Kris the Hero fighting through a land of trial and tribulation that he made himself to do...Something. Like in the song, the Knight in question looks gallant cool and really shows their stuff, even though in the end they bit it.
So that’s something, but then, we’re still asking why is Kris doing this? It’s shown that basically any Lightner can open a Dark Fountain whenever they want (Berdly got slapped out of it like 3 times in a row, and he seemed to be doing it pretty trivially as far as difficulty was concerned. Now that was in the Dark World, so perhaps it was easier there, but the Queen didn’t even really consider Berdly Strong enough to do it, though part of that likely as not had to do with her concern for Noelle.
But like...I dunno, I go back to the Knight in all this, and that’s a position of special import in the game. It’s very actively called attention to it, and the Knight is positioned as an apocalyptic force that’s...Creating Worlds, giving life and value back to the Darkners, who were cut off from the Lightners, which has seemingly left both sides lesser. The Darkners seeming to be doomed to fade into the dark, while the Lightners are unable to interact with this world that seems to have the ability to massively improve their wellbeing.
Like, Knights are typically heroes in stories with princes and heroes and kings and queens you know? When the story takes place in a kingdom, it’s the loyal knight who, while perhaps not the main hero, is a steadfast compatriot. Well that’s the general idea right?
But the Knight is positioned as a terrible force of ruin and destruction...Except in chapter 2 here, we get the notion that creating the Dark Worlds really can be an improvement life. Indeed, the game doesn’t even seem to suggest that creating more Dark Worlds is inherently a bad thing, but there’s the critical issue of the balance between the two being off and that’s a critical problem that at least as of now doesn’t seem to be able to be addressed.
Still, if this game is keeping on with Parallels to Undertale, The Knight isn’t all bad. Hell even the Spade King wasn’t all bad and he’s pretty objectively the most evil character in the normal route of the game.
And the game really does seem to posit that the interaction between the dark world and the light world is inherently good for both of them. The Town looks Way healthier and lively in Chapter 2 than it did in 1. Susie’s Rude Stat has been dropping since go, and Even Kris, while we don’t get to see their thoughts, seems to be becoming considerably more expressive. Now admittedly pretty much every expression we do get to see from them that isn’t prompted from The Soul seems to be negative and frustrated and angry and all that, but then, I think that’s probably a better place to be than shoving everything down and being completely unresponsive and not acknowledging anything that they’re feeling, which seems to be the case whenever you start to touch on anything remotely intimate.
I mean The Soul seems to be a part of them as well as apart from them, which is confusing at the moment, but they’re capable of scarfing down a whole entire pie, slash their moms tires, and open up portals to parallel realites without it so it doesn’t seem to be something that they particularly NEED to survive or do anything.
Going back to the song though, and i suppose the most basic barebones aspect I wanna look at, is that Someone who’s Apparently In Trouble is actually the Threat, or more generally, that the Appearances Are Opposite to the Actual Reality of the situation I’m wondering.
Because last thing before I cut this off, is that We have the Queen going all in on her plan and being unaware that going through with it would lead to the end of all things, I have to wonder if the Knight is Similarly Ignorant as to what they’re actually doing.
I’m also wondering if Perhaps Asriel is perhaps actually the antagonist. Because while the game’s claim of your choices having no meaning is inherently unquestionably suspect, the game also makes it extremely clear, doubly so as of the point of chapter 2, That there are people you’re simply going to have to fight, and perhaps you’re going to have to fight them with the full intent of killing them, and that that is an option that you genuinely may need to consider. Or at least, that you may well need to destroy that relationship and cut them out of your life. Not everyone should be recruited, so to speak.
Which is advice that shows up, if my memory isn’t failing me this quickly, in the manual that Ralsei provides...And advice that, if taken to extremes as shown in the Corruption route, can cause genuine problems.
Or I suppose I guess to put this in another context, the first words of advice you’re given, that are a full on lie, in Undertale is that this is a world of kill or be killed. Asriel tells us this is a world where you do not have to kill anyone, and while the game has yet to have you actually bring the axe down on anyone in the Normal Route, it’s also extremely explicitly stated that it’s not so simple as spare everyone or fight everyone. There’s shades of grey here and you shouldn’t just ignore them. There are people you can’t just spare, you have to fight it out (and interestingly, those people do not include the secret bosses, who seem to have a greater level of understanding of the world, if also are borderline incoherent in both cases.)
I dunno. There’s more to percolate on here i think, though obviously some of this isn’t gonna be answered until we get the rest of the game.
And as a last note, there’s 7 showing up again as a recurring number so that’s...Interesting.

sorry if it's not too mcuh to ask but are you able to share the endings? ive seen a lot of mixed reviews in regards to them and player choices and i wanted to hear your opinion
uhhh pfft okay spoilers below... but there are like “five″ endings, each with variations and reflections on choices that you go through
devil ending (arasaka)
so assuming you have done nothing game wise (no side missions, no friendships), this is the most basic ending you will get besides one other. this has several differences based on whether you saved takemura or not (yes, you can save him in search and destroy, and he doesn’t like an outcome of this ending if you save him. quite frankly, it’s hilarious).
this ending basically ends the arasaka story of the game, which was the heist section, as well as takemura’s general story direction. you realise along the way that yorinobu wasn’t just the antagonist but an antihero in hating his father’s stance on separating the rich and poor further, as well as attaining immortality via the relic. he wanted to give it to everyone. saburo had uploaded his soul to mikoshi (think along the lines of the stacks in altered carbon), knowing that yorinobu was going to make an attempt. turns out hanako knew all this. there is more backstory with hanako’s connection to alt explained. saburo’s relic is installed in yorinobu’s body.
- variation 1: goro died, hellman takes you to the facility
after the choice, hellman will be the one to escort v to arasaka, having survived conveniently. after some other missions involve a hostile takeover of arasaka, hanako fulfills her promise of removing johnny, but in the process v’s mind is practically destroyed beyond saving. there is a sequence of testing, with the scientists and lots of psychological implications. hellman will arrive to give the choice of whether to upload v’s mind to mikoshi in an attempt to save them in some years time (because, as it turns out, there are stipulations in that cloning is not near the level of science it needs to be, saburo and yorinobu obviously had close enough genetic material it made transfer easier. also johnny’s relic has apparently ‘changed’ v’s dna enough (which is questioned and evaded). that and it is arasaka. they could just be lying, and v knows this). so v can sign a contract to be uploaded to mikoshi, or can return to earth with 6 months to potentially live, although is speculated to have less time than that.
the credits roll with dialogue from those you may have befriended in some capacity discussing either the fact you have signed on to arasaka, or you have disappeared/returned to earth. hanako offers v a job if they had chosen to return to earth to die. your love interest makes reference to not having heard from you/wishes to see you soon.
- variation 2: goro survives, also escorts v to arasaka
takemura fills the roll of hellman, and ultimately proves that he is arasaka until the day he dies, even after the apparent ‘wavering’ dialogue. he didn’t make it this far in life without being able to lie the way he does. he’s a lot more gentle in the approach compared to hellman in asking v to return to mikoshi, there is some reminiscing dialogue, and also promises of visiting in the future if they manage to find v a body.
the biggest difference is should v choose to return to earth, takemura tells v to rot in hell for refusing arasaka’s help.
the sun (rogue)
this ending relies on side missions being completed for rogue (NOT just a good relationship with johnny, that is another ending as well that will be mentioned after). blistering love is the last one for rogue.
what happens is that you give johnny and rogue their last attempt at the assault on arasaka tower. johnny will be in control for the duration of this mission. rogue dies during the assault when adam smasher arrives. at mikoshi, johnny is the point of view character for the decision on who remains in v’s body. alt recognises that the relic has altered v’s body too much for v to remain there, but johnny would survive without problem.
- variation 1: v remains in control
johnny assimilates with alt in cyberspace and v returns to the world as a living legend. your love interest can potentially appear in the suite, but they recognise that v has become incredibly distant as a person (implied only a few months to live, that only they know of), and is taking on one last gig like no other. the love interest may potentially break up with v. ends with v eventually going to attack the crystal palace (casino in space).
- variation 2: johnny remains in control
vastly different, and i recommend playing this ending out at least once. johnny appears some time after the events of arasaka leaving the city, with collecting belongings and also going to visit the columbarium and deposit the bullet in v’s grave. it also gives a lot of insight into other memorials to characters you may have met in other side missions, there is jackie’s, rogue’s (per this ending), etc. johnny leaves night city.
- VARIATION 3: TECHNICALLY THE SECRET ENDING and in some cases considered ending 5
DIFFERENT in that it has a set of requirements that include maintaining a relationship with johnny ABOVE 70% (which can happen in the missions for him). need to wait and not decide on an ending for johnny to personally suggest this, so that no one else will die for them. it goes the same route as the rogue/johnny ending but instead v/johnny assault arasaka tower themselves. this is the HARDEST mission in the game, there is NO save option, you have to complete it in one go. if you die it is treated as an ending, and the end credits will even reference this with other characters talking about this. should you make it through, it plays out similarly following on from the other variations, save for the fact rogue will actually be alive, and the afterlife sequence will reflect her survival.
the star (aldecaldos)
should you befriend panam, including completing all of her lines (queen of the highway being the last), there is the offer to join them. it follows a very similar path in terms of attacking arasaka tower per rogue/johnny, but with the aldecaldos, and saul dies when adam smasher appears for the fight. this is one of the endings where you can choose who stays in v’s body however, but played from v’s point of view.
- variation 1: v remains in control
again, similarly follows the sun route, however v will wake up later with the aldecaldos en route to tucson. judy if romanced will join v, panam will obviously have a continuing romance, but river stays behind due to his family commitments with promises of maybe someday if they return, and kerry i believe at this stage, doesn’t want to give up night city just yet, but again similarly to river, promises.. it ends on a more hopeful note.
- variation 2: johnny remains in control
plays out like the sun ending.
path of least resistance (suicide)
easily the most heartbreaking. depending on how you may have played v, it is the one time they feel the most in control. johnny and v have an incredibly emotional discussion about death and life and rebirth. the credits will roll, and any relationships you have established will have a spoken part. i sobbed during the credits. it is.. yeah. well.
my opinion
the endings are confronting, or hopeful, depending on what is chosen. siding with arasaka goes against your better instincts, especially as a corporat. even after believing that perhaps takemura has changed, v realises that to his heart, that man will never leave. becoming a living legend just like jackie wanted leaves v feeling quite empty, as they have made it to the heights and there’s nothing for them. the aldecaldos are viewed as the best simply because there is that hope that in arizona, someone might be able to help, but potentially at the cost of your own relationship. and then... after seeing how much v has been punched down... the last ending just truly hurts. both in terms of characters understanding and being so angry at themselves and at v. i personally don’t know what specific ending i would choose for my v as i’m still working it out, but they all do punch in some way i personally think, especially if you have... actually played the story, and it does like tie off specific ends here and there. also like... finding out what happens to the peralezes and other people you might’ve met... yeah. i recommend playing through all of them + variations at least once (granted.. if you are comfortable with it. the arasaka ending is very invasive and well, the suicide ending can be incredibly uncomfortable).

Just a reminder that if you have time and feel like writing that post you mentioned about how you would rewrite each DBH character’s story given unlimited runtime, it would be very cool to read.
Ah, right. Quick note that I don’t know much about Connor’s machine path or the violent revolution path or any ending to Kara’s story that doesn’t involve successfully getting past the border guard so I will be skimming those parts of the story. Also it’s going to be pretty vague because Details Are Hard. (Also I’m tired so this is probably not going to make a lot of sense or be in any sort of reasonable order.)
Okay, general points first. I feel like the three stories should intersect more, even if only in a “seeing the aftermath of their actions” way; maybe Connor and Hank are sent to investigate Zlatko’s death after Kara and Alice have gone through, for example. You’ve got three protagonists active at the same time and they barely interact! Come on, give us a little conversation. And of course the public opinion system needs to be used a lot more; it only effects two things in the whole game, come on! It doesn’t impact any of the major human characters, and that just feels wrong. I’ll. come back to this in Connor’s section because I feel like it would be best used there (since there really aren’t many humans in the story outside of his parts and the ones who do show up have reasons to side with or against the deviants outside of public opinion), but if nothing else I’d like it to lead to us seeing humans demonstrating/fighting with the deviants. Also I would like to see at least a few examples of androids deviating peacefully, like Connor does; I don’t believe for a second that there weren’t androids who deviated in a place where they were surrounded by people who were with them all the way.
So, first off: Markus. Mostly I’d just want to extend the timeline a bit and add some more Jericho missions, because oh my god you cannot join an organization of people with no weapons or resources of any kind, become their leader, and successfully change society in less than a week. So just... more evidence of Markus slowly winning Jericho over and helping them gather supplies and resources. Show him helping them set up actual supply lines! Rescuing deviants! Winning over allies! Including human ones, because the idea that there isn’t a single human working with Jericho when pretty much every major human character is in fact on the deviants’ side is... dumb. Also, individual missions with North, Simon and Josh; it would be good to spend more time getting to know them, since as it stands it’s... kind of hard to care all that much when they die. I might also add short scenes where we see Connor’s targets arriving in Jericho if they survive, just to add more connection between the stories (and also I like them and wish more had been done with them). And make Simon a love interest (because this is a choice-heavy game and so I should be able to make the choice to play exclusively as gay androids if that’s what I want), and make it easier to avoid having a love interest; let’s not create a situation where entering into a relationship less than a week after gaining emotions is all but mandatory, hm? Also, maybe Markus should meet Kamski one time? As the guy fulfilling Kamski’s deviant-related plans? Come on, one meeting. Maybe clear up Kamski’s motivations just a bit. And, crossing over with Connor’s story, maybe a bit of stuff them both being part of the RK line and how it went from a caregiver android to a detective android. Oh, and change it so that you’re not guaranteed to have fatalities on the violence path, because insisting that only pacifism can possibly end happily when fighting against oppression seems kind of... not great, all things considered. Frankly given the androids’ combat abilities it kind of makes more sense to have unavoidable deaths on the pacifism route, or alternately to have different unavoidable deaths on both routes, but being admittedly a softy I am very happy to have it be possible to have no deaths on either route. I don’t necessarily expect it to be easy to save everyone (it might make sense to add in missions where you make preparations to increase their odds of survival, or do something similar to Simon’s possible death in Stratford Tower where one of other protagonists’ actions has an effect on the sequence of events), but it would be nice to have it be possible.
On to Kara; I mentioned this before, but instead of her story being a cute-but-boring game-long escort mission where you have to protect a small child who is entirely useless I’d give her a story about uncovering how deviancy works and the history of it. Whether it really is just a glitch or something more, what rA9 actually is... all that fun stuff. No idea how that would actually go, but it would be more interesting than just running to Canada. If nothing else we could get more backstory on how the hell Kamski managed to create androids who are so realistic that that they can develop emotions. And if it is just a glitch there can be more discussion on whether or not simulated emotions are as real as actual emotions, because the fact that they brought up the concept of deviant emotions being a simulation and did nothing with it just feels like a massive waste of potential. And I’d add some more ways to live; from what I understand it’s really hard to keep everyone alive unless you maybe possibly condemn a couple and their baby to freeze to death or get killed by a revolution and keep things peaceful in Markus’s story. While I do want more interaction between the stories, I don’t think your choices in one story should automatically lock you out of getting the best ending for one of the other stories (with the obvious exception of the situations where that actually makes sense; can’t get the best ending for Connor and Hank if Markus nukes the city while Hank is in it, for example). At least with Kara; her story is so separate from Markus and Connor’s that it doesn’t make sense for Markus’s actions to lock her out of escaping to Canada! Also, it adds nothing to the story to have Alice turn out to be an android and robs Kara of her close human companion who has a massive impact on her life; yeah, there’s Rose, but she’s in... what, two missions? That’s less than Karl, who has the additional story impact of having been Markus’s father figure for (if memory serves) years before the start of the game, so there’s no dynamic to build; it’s already there. Keep Alice human! It’s a completely pointless twist! ...I recognise that this does mean that Connor can get a young human girl killed by succeeding in stopping a deviant, but it wouldn’t take much to rewrite his run-in with Kara to not involve a chase across a freeway. Again, I’ll come back to this when I get to Connor’s section. But imagine the impact of things like Todd’s abuse and Zlatko’s section if Alice is human; showing that these villains don’t necessarily see androids and humans as different, but in a negative sense this time. Also, I’d like a sort of prologue to her story featuring the incident that got her broken and led to her being repaired at the start of the game.
And of course now we get to Connor, the best boy who deserves the best. I’ll start with the things I said I’d come back to. First, the public opinion system: imagine if Hank’s thoughts on deviants (instead of just changing for no apparent reason beyond a handful of meetings with people who generally kick his ass and then run away or die with at most a bit of conversation) could be altered by public opinion of the deviants’ cause. Even better; by that and his relationship with Connor. Picture a situation where Hank doesn’t trust or like deviants at all due to them running around killing people but still helps them because he wants to help Connor. It would just be very good. Also, since Connor is the only character hanging out exclusively with humans (what with the station full of cops he’s working out of): imagine more missions taking place (or at least starting) in the precinct where Connor can interact with his sort of coworkers and how the conversations with them could change as time passes and public opinion changes. Also again the possibility for a conflict between dislike of deviants and fondness for this particular android, just for fun. And, also just for fun, maybe a bit of character development for Gavin where he’s still a dick (because honestly he’d be less fun if he wasn’t) but if public opinion is high he’ll pretend not to notice Connor sneaking into the evidence locker and fucking around in there for a while when he really definitely isn’t supposed to. Come on, if you’re going to have heroic cops you could at least do something with more than one of them. Also, more Captain Fowler. All we know is that he and Hank are old friends and he’s totally okay with Hank beating the shit out of Perkins; all in all I’d like to know a bit more about him. And with Kara and Alice: the freeway chase works, sure, but I would like the option for Connor to at least try to save Alice; by this point Connor is already showing signs of software instability, if we change it so that Alice is human him putting the mission aside to save a little girl makes sense and gives us a good sense of who he is as a person, and it fits neatly into steadily escalating refusal to complete his mission that eventually reaches full deviancy. If I’m remembering the order right it’s Ortiz’s android (who you can’t let escape), Kara (who you can let go based on Hank’s orders), Rupert (who you can let go to save Hank), the Tracis (who you can let go just because), and then Markus (who you have to deviate to spare); changing it so that you can let Kara go to save a little girl she’s protecting fits the escalation (you could easily argue that Connor has something in his programming about saving human lives, and as one of his earlier missions shows him being specifically trying to save a little girl it makes a great deal of sense that he wants to protect Alice. Also like. Imagine having the option to push Alice out of the way of a car at the cost of Connor’s life. It would be very effective, I think. Also it’s another opportunity to make Hank like you because he would for sure react well to you saving a small child from getting hit by a car.
Alright, moving on; I’d like some more assignments with Connor before he joins the DPD and gets partnered with Hank, showing him actually earning the title of deviant hunter? Also that way we aren’t stuck with the conclusion that CyberLife decided to send their prototype out into the world to partner with the police in investigations after one mission, which said prototype may well have failed to complete. And we could show more of Connor struggling with what he’s being ordered to do but having no way of stopping himself due to a complete lack of any interaction with anyone with functioning emotions, except for maybe CyberLife technicians. Actually, I’d also like to see what it’s like for Connor going to CyberLife for repairs and debriefing and such, because I doubt it’s fun. Other than that... well, Connor’s story is pretty good all things considered, but there are a couple tweaks I’d make. Aside from the previously mentioned exploration of what it means that he and Markus are both part of the RK line, I’d maybe cap off the added early story for him by adding him being hesitant about turning in Ortiz’s android if you’ve been pushing for more software instability and only going through with it when it becomes clear that if he doesn’t all he’ll achieve is getting himself caught not doing his job, which wouldn’t be a good look. I feel like the most effective way to do it might be if it’s not under player control; if his software instability is high enough he’ll be uncertain about it, and if he’s not he won’t be. And if he is uncertain you could add some options to the interrogation where he can win trust by telling the android he was scared of what would happen to him if he didn’t turn him in (followed by him immediately insisting that that was just a cunning ploy and in no way true when pressed on the matter if he did it out loud and not through an interface). Also: why wasn’t it Hank who pushed Connor to deviate. You spend Connor’s entire story with Hank! He is Connor’s tie to humanity! Why does Connor deviate in one conversation with a complete stranger and not his dearest friend! I desperately want a situation where Hank learns too much or something and Connor is ordered to shoot him and you can either go through with it (killing Hank) or deviate and shoot whoever gave you the order instead. Also then there could be hugs. And maybe forehead kisses because please. Connor deserves a little smooch honestly. He’s earned it. And then if your relationship with Hank is low enough that he’s already dead at this point you can have the conversation with Markus. Also, I would love an addition to the machine path where if you have a high relationship with Hank you can choose to deviate before fighting him (instead of just walking away despite that preventing Connor from finishing his mission quickly) or to deviate after fighting him when he’s got Hank hanging off the edge of the roof. Think about it; a moment of horrified realisation where Connor’s software is finally pushed to the breaking point by having to choose whether or not he will kill his only friend for the sake of his mission where he’s left desperately asking himself what the hell he’s doing? Like, if nothing else it would hammer home the fact that at this point Connor is choosing to remain a machine (assuming his software instability is high enough) to have to choose it twice even at the cost of Hank’s life. Actually three times, because the initial choice would be before this point. Also going that way it would be possible to play through the machine path up to the fight with Hank and still net Connor’s best ending, which would just be nice I think. Also, more hugs. Hugs are good.
...Okay, that’s all I can think of for now. Also it’s uh. almost 1 AM here and sleep is in fact important. So I’m going to wrap up here; maybe I’ll make some more posts later if I think of anything else.

So, I just watched the first 3 episodes of Fate: The Winx Saga and I know I don’t usually talk about Winx on this blog but... girl gotta put her thoughts somewhere. This show was my childhood and Netflix really said “Fuck it”.
I’ll leave it under the cut so if you wanna stay for this rant, feel free
I went into this knowing I would hate it and, honestly, I do and I don’t
I think it is an absolute shit dumpster fire of an adaptation that someone poured gasoline on and then tried to lite on fire with Bloom’s inconsistent control issues and shit just got even worse
But, this could have been a fairly decent show If it was a stand alone- It had no need to be attached to the Winx name because it really is not Winx
There are some problems I had with it that everyone had before the show even dropped - The whitewashing and lack of diversity, the atrocious outfits, the lack of wings (“We evolved” that’s fucking bullshit y’all know good and well that part of the fun of the OG show was the new transformations and the outfits and we can’t even have that)
Also there is def technology here so why the FUCK do we not have Tecna? She’s the straight laced girl of the group but at the same time I feel like she could have added some much needed levity
And my girl would have told it like it is. Sometimes these people (not the Winx because they are NOT the Winx) do dumb shit for the sake of doing dumb shit and Tecna would never have allowed this!
Combining the Trix into one person is still iffy for me, like I get why they did it but I just don’t think it has the same effect as having the three of them
Sometimes she gives me Icy vibes and most of the time she gives me Darcy vibes and almost never she gives me Stormy vibes (even though her powers are most like Stormy) and that shit just gives me whiplash
I also think that having the witches at cloud tower provided the original show with this great idea of “even though we use dark magic and are considered witches we still make the choice ourselves as to whether or not we use that magic for good or for evil” but then again I might be reading into it too much who knows
It’s bad enough they had to go and make Aisha the token black character but then they also make her this mean, black woman caricature (and I know it stems from her frustration that she can’t do this one thing perfect but still, as a black young woman who has seen black women portrayed like this constantly it is damaging as hell)
On that note - why did they have to make the one black and overall minority girl the control freak? Idk it just doesn’t really sit right with me
Speaking of jealousy...we gotta talk about Stella
I know this is supposed to be more realistic and grown up and ya, I get it, girls can be catty but dude, Stella WOULD NEVER
THIS Stella endangered Bloom on PURPOSE because she was Jealous and then she really wanted to dipp on her in the woods after Bloom was trying to help her get back HER ring she shouldn’t have given her in the first place all cause she was a bit scared? Even scared Stella in the original show wouldn’t have done that! Would she have complained? YES! But she wouldn’t be so quick to give up
Need I remind everyone that she almost drained herself completely trying to protect her friends in the Omega Dimension from the Ice Snakes and only stopped because Musa was like “Stella, your hurting yourself. Take a break everyone will be ok”
And this shit show wants me to believe that these are the saem people? I think not!
So I’m only on episode 3 but I can already tell that whatever they’re trying to say happened with Rickie is not what actually happened and that whole storyline is just super annoying like bro, there better be a good ass reason why she is pretending to be such a terrible person and I just don’t trust this show to be that creative
This thing between her and sky is so confusing and makes like, no sense
Moving on...
I love Sam, he is so sweet and cute and amazing
His introduction “uh...I’m Sam...what’s up” made me laugh my ass off and I can’t even tell you why
Truly I love him but at the same time...he’s kinda getting in between Musa and Riven
Like I get that their relationship was not the best at all (and this Riven has even more problems which was kinda unnecessary cause he already had SO MANY!) but at the same time when we’ve only got the opportunity to have 2 of the original couples like... I’m gonna need this show to give me something
Riven - I loved him in the original show because he always had so many issues but then season 4 rolled around and he was genuinely trying to become a better person. And to have the guts to realize later that he was not ok and that he had to leave to figure that out? Respectable. I recognize that this dude had issues (and that Musa deserved better) but I respected him by the end of his journey
THIS Riven? He can eat shit. I know this is kinda supposed to be the whole Darcy arc he had in the first season or whatever but at least then he was being mind controlled to a certain extent which explained a lot of why he was doing what he was. But this dude is just an overall douche.
Isn’t he supposed to be Bi? Internalized homophobia is amazing guys we definitely want more of that - -  (just to be clear that was sarcasm)
And I know this contradicts my wanting him and Musa to be together but I think that these two things go hand in hand
I hate that they upped his issues by 100000x because I legit want them to be together and have a genuinely good, functional relationship
But Sam is precious and should be protected
So now Terra
Honestly I think making her say “I have a cousin named Flora” only made the whitewashing more obvious and worse. If they seriously wanted to go this route they should have just committed and not brought Flora’s name into this at all. We the fans are not idiots Netflix! We know what you did!!
This might just be a more personal thing but I kinda feel like they made her entire personality (at least this far) only about her being plus size
And this was FAR more prevalent in the few chapters from the book I could stomach to read
And wasn’t that their defense for whitewashing? That they wanted to have more inclusion in body types?
You can have a plus size character and not make almost 90% of their screen time about them being self conscious about their body- Like this legit seems to be almost 99% of the reason she’s socially awkward
Again, if you’re going to commit, COMMIT! Show her being ok in her own body and her own skin. Let’s fight against the same culture that makes this character feel self conscious
As far as Musa goes... still don’t really like that they changed her powers
I guess they thought her new ones would be more useful in a more “practical” setting but um... they haven’t been? Not really?
I know she said she’s not a human lie detector but... they show keeps making her one whenever it’s convenient
I guess they thought her new ones would be more useful in a more “practical” setting but um... they haven’t been? Not really?
I still don’t understand why they have to sneak around but, idk maybe they’ll explain it later ( like I get that Sam is Terra’s bro but Musa and Terra don’t even know eachother like that for this drama to be such a big deal)
Bloom is alright
That’s all I have to say about her
Her mom though?
Idk why she was acting the way she was, Just why?
Not her making fun of Bloom going to antique shops when Vanessa owns a literal FLOWER SHOP in the original show!
I will say though, “This basic bitch will pull out her PhD and take you to school. Every comeback is another week without your door. Hit me.” with that confidence? BEST LINE IN THE SHOW!
She had my support for like .5 sec there
“Slam the door, loose the door” she was on some Black mother shit right there - the amount of time my mom has threatened me with this?
It wasn’t even a threat it was a promise
Sky seems to be the most in character but then again the bar isn’t set too high
Why are the teachers so fucking shady? And are there only 3 professors in this giant ass school?? (I say that knowing there were only, like 4 in the original - 5 if we count Daphnee)
It also took me a min to realize that they kinda combined Feragonda and Griselda into one person. I don’t really like it that much
I still don’t understand why they had to strip Aisha and Sky of their titles. I felt like that added so much to their characters - Aisha felt the need to be so perfect because she was a princess and Sky had all these increasing obligation through the show that would create conflict (sometimes it was stupid but still)
Also for a show about they Winx they sure as hell don’t spend that much time together
They got their name in the FIRST EPISODE of the original show. It’s been 3 and the only mention of “Winx” was a quick pan of the door label for their suite. Blink and you missed it
And they seem to keep flip flopping between being best friends to being indifferent to each other, to “I don’t really know you” to sometimes hating each other (the emotion flop is mainly Stella but the others seem to have some weird ranges as well)
From a technical standpoint this show has some weird choices
Sometimes cuts will just ...happen? Especially during actions scenes sometimes it’s hard to make sense of what’s happening
And all the fight scenes - especially the training scenes - just seem so rehearsed it hard to watch
and why does Riven keep flip flopping between the worst specialist and a great one?
The utter lack of creativity in terms of the technology and weapons and even just the representation of the magic in this show is sad
The Original was so magical and colorful It was always obvious that this was a different dimension
I feel like I could legit go to Switzerland and find a place just like this and it wouldn’t be anything super different or weird
I also still don’t get why earth can’t know? Are we just gonna pretend that the Earth fairies and Believix and the Wizards of the Black Circle just... didn’t happen?
If this person that Beatrix is working for isn’t Lord Darkar or Valtor like...idk what to do
Again I would just like to stress that this show did not need to be an adaptation
In fact it really isn’t I don’t know what they hell they are adapting cause this is NOT Winx and I cannot stress enough just how utterly wrong this felt while watching it
All most of the characters have the same names but they are not the same people at all - no where close
Also can I just say, Sky’s hair seemed so different (length, part, style) almost every other scene sometimes I would legit have to sit back and be like “this is the same actor right?”
Speaking of I’d like to finish this off by saying: absolutely no hate to the actors and actresses - I can see they are doing their best with what they have been given and most of the more controversial decisions were not made by them
I will say I did think that linking Fairy magic to emotion was a good touch - idk if they did this in the Original show or not. I can’t remember
So far this show...
As and adaptation:
words cannot describe how bad it is
As a stand alone property:
I mean, it’s noting amazing or truly different but I’ve definitely seen worse
I’ll probably make another one of these for the last 3 episodes. I could literally get 0 notes on this and still do it anyway. Sometimes you really just gotta rant

Anybody want some more POTC AU? Well, this time we’re getting some focus on our Davy Jones (Finn McGarry @theguythatdraws, based on this concept) and our Commodore “Carey Weasley” (Carewyn Cromwell)! In the original films, their respective roles are on opposite sides of the fence (hell, Davy Jones kills Norrington in the movies damnitDisneyNorringtondeservedbetter >>), and even in this AU, Davy!Finn has some history with Carewyn’s brother Jacob...so how will they interact, when they collide? We’ll just have to wait and see...
17th-18th century pirate ships were -- in a bizarre way -- tiny, floating representative democracies, about 50-60 years before the American Revolution. In a world where nearly all European countries were run by kings chosen by “divine right” and one could usually only “rise above their station” through fighting in wars or through marrying someone of a higher class, pirate ships operated under the idea of “one man, one vote” and their captains both were chosen by popular vote and could be replaced at any time, oftentimes rather peacefully. The Age of Enlightenment sparked by thinkers like John Locke started in the midst of the Golden Age of Piracy and really kicked off as soon as it was over, circa 1730. Those same ideas ended up inspiring both the American and French Revolutions in the later 18th and early 19th centuries...so yeah, in a weird way, you could draw a direct connection between the values and grievances against the monarchy expressed by pirates to the ones expressed by America’s Founding Fathers and the figures of the French Revolution!
Previous part is here, whole tag is here...and I hope y’all enjoy!

When the Flying Dutchman returned from Tortuga, the brig was stuffed to the brim with about two hundred prisoners -- and yet, even with that, Cutler Beckett was not pleased. None of those captured were particularly well-known or wanted pirates: instead the group largely consisted of retired pirates, pirates’ families, or other such refugees from the law who hadn’t committed any crimes except through association.
“The pirates refused to be taken alive, Beckett,” spat Jones impatiently. “All of the ones we captured fought to the death rather than be imprisoned.”
“Admirable excuse, Jones,” said Beckett airily, “but at present, we need prisoners to interrogate -- and although you may be comfortable dealing with dead men, they don’t do much good for us that way. Unless you can give us the location of Shipwreck Cove yourself?”
Jones’s eyes flashed dangerously. Alas, he couldn’t answer that question -- and so Beckett railroaded him.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that you need some oversight, Jones -- so from now on, Commodore Weasley and my associate, Patricia Rakepick, will remain on board the Dutchman...just to make sure things run smoothly.”
Jones watched as a line of soldiers escorted the Dead Man’s Chest on board his ship. He had felt the presence of his heart earlier, but it being so close made his chest feel like it was on fire, blazing with wild, storm-like emotions he hadn’t felt in years that made him want to hit something, scream in pain, and burst into tears all at the same time. It was agony, after so long, and it made Jones whirl on Beckett with a murderous expression.
“I will not have that thing on my ship!” he snarled.
“Perhaps you will not, but I will,” said Beckett.
He glanced at Rakepick. “Did the key Jones handed over work?”
Rakepick dangled the key to the Chest off of her finger with a smirk. “Aye -- I checked it before we brought it over.”
“Good.”
Beckett returned his gaze to Jones.
“From here on out, you shall answer to the Commodore and Madam Rakepick for your orders -- all orders, naturally, that come directly from me. Should you not, they will have the authority to discipline any misbehavior.”
Jones’s gaze flickered over Rakepick and then over to the shorter Navy-dressed officer standing perfectly straight beside her.
The Commodore -- yes. This was the one called “Carey Weasley” -- Black Jack Roberts’s younger sister and, as per Jones’s deal with Jack, his future crew member, Carewyn Cromwell. She truly didn’t resemble her brother much at all, Jones thought: it was little wonder no one had made a connection between her and the infamous captain of the Tower Raven. And Jones thought, it was irony at its finest, the thought that one of the people Beckett was using to restrain him was in fact destined to scrape before him instead, within the next two months.
Jones’s gaze returned to Beckett pretty quickly. He snapped his claw at his side as he loomed over the much smaller man.
“The Flying Dutchman sails as its captain commands,” he said fiercely.
“And its captain will sail it as he is commanded!” Beckett shot back, his usually detached and arrogant voice betraying some real aggression for the first time.
Jones’s crew muttered among themselves, both shocked and a bit intimidated. The leader of the East India Trading Company took several steps forward, his eyes boring into Jones with pure contempt.
“I already disposed of your pet,” he said softly. “I would hate to have to also dispose of you so quickly, when you might still have some use.”
Despite saying this, it was clear that Beckett felt no compassion for Jones’s life at all.
“This is no longer your world, Jones. There’s no place in this new world of ours for the immaterial. In short, the immaterial...has become immaterial. Best you learn that quickly, and fill the new role you’ve been dealt.”
Jones loathed having the two red-haired women and their battalion of Navy soldiers aboard. Although a lot of the time neither of them spoke to him, he hated having their eyes on his back and hated knowing that they as agents of Beckett’s were there to be his “leash.”
Rakepick flaunted her authority noticeably more than Carewyn did, dictating their course and openly contradicting Jones’s orders. About the only time Carewyn seemed to speak up was in response to the treatment of prisoners -- while the Flying Dutchman sailed back toward Port Royal, the Commodore frequently checked on the condition of the prisoners in the brig. One of Jones’s sailors even reported to him that he’d seen her bringing one of them a Bible on request. It was odd, considering that every single one of those prisoners was going to hang as soon as they arrived in Port Royal, unless they had “valuable information” to give. Unfortunately the only valuable information that Beckett wanted were the identities of all seven Pirate Lords, the significance of their “Pieces of Eight,” and the location of Shipwreck Cove, the last secret pirate haven on Earth -- and, to every prisoner’s credit, if any of them did know the answers to those questions, they refused to say...perhaps because they knew that it’d be the place the pirates who were able to escape the Dutchman’s attack would go.
Carewyn escorted the prisoners on shore to Port Royal, while Rakepick stayed behind with the troops aboard the Flying Dutchman. When she arrived, she met up with Percy, who had been in charge of the fort in her absence. The hangings started the very next day. A long, long line of prisoners all locked in irons pooled out of the brig and were walked one by one closer to the gallows. In groups of seven, they were sent up to the hangman’s noose -- men, women, even children -- all without trial and without any chance for mercy...all thanks to Lord Beckett, and by extension the King of England who had given him that power. It broke Carewyn’s heart standing on the sidelines with Percy, unable to do a thing to stop it.
Cutler Beckett arrived in Port Royal in the midst of the executions, looking incredibly smug. It took everything in Carewyn to not yank out her pistol and stick in his disgusting, weasel-like face...especially when he brought her and Percy away from the gallows to speak to them privately.
“I admit, Commodore...your plan has not produced the intelligence I wished for,” said Beckett as he considered the map in front of him. Once again, he was playing with a silver piece of eight absently in his right hand. “But it has been a very effective showcase of the British Empire’s new position on piracy. My proclamation would’ve lacked the proper teeth, without such a visible display.”
‘You’re despicable,’ Carewyn thought, hatred pulsing through her heart as a tiny boy was placed up on a barrel at the gallows.
“Thank you, sir,” she said lowly.
Percy glanced at the gallows too, and he winced at the sight of the boy standing on the barrel.
“It’s unfortunate that the information they offered was not useful to you, Lord Beckett,” he said, his voice betraying some hesitance. “I thought that the locations the boy provided for where the Dennis and the Andromeda make berth and the routes the Blackbird uses to plunder ships seemed promising...”
“You think too small, Captain,” said Beckett.
There was a rather arrogant gleam in his eye as he glanced from Percy to Carewyn, the piece of eight lingering between his pointer and middle finger.
“Chasing pirates one at a time would take up more resources and time than I have a desire to use. What I want is to bring order to this world -- and to do that, all pirates must be dealt with...either by being brought into line to serve our interests, or by being disposed of. And to do that, the pirates’ spirit must be decisively crushed.”
He glanced at the piece of eight between his fingers.
“...How much do you two know about the Pirate Brethren Court?”
Percy turned to Carewyn. Her eyes narrowed slightly.
“I’ve heard of it, but I’m afraid I don’t know much.”
That was a bald-faced lie. Charles Cromwell himself had been one of the original Pirate Lords ages ago, before the curse no doubt interfered with his old duties and the Mediterranean was taken over by someone else.
“They are -- from what I understand -- representatives, who only gather whenever pirates as a whole need united leadership,” said Beckett. “They are a Parliament for piracy -- one that selects a ‘King’ to represent them all, in times of crisis.”
Percy frowned in confusion. “A King chosen by the people? I’ve never heard of such a thing...”
“Pirates do not believe in divine right,” Carewyn explained. “Even when it comes to their captains, the crew can vote to replace them at any time.”
Percy turned to Beckett. “...Then do you think the pirates will attempt to convene this ‘Brethren Court,’ in response to the attack on Tortuga?”
‘That’s definitely what I hope...’ Carewyn thought to herself.
Beckett nodded. “I am assured of it.”
Carewyn’s eyes drifted away, back up to the line of chained prisoners still being forced up onto the gallows.
“If they were to convene this ‘Court’ of theirs and select a King, my Lord,” she said softly, “it sounds like they could be a greater threat than ever. Individual pirates might be more expensive to chase one at a time...but if they were somehow able to unite, they could create a formidable army.”
Beckett raised his eyebrows. “I did not think you would fear a War, Commodore.”
“Not at all,” said Carewyn. “If the British Navy could stand toe to toe with the Spanish and French, we should more than be a match for a smattering of rag-tag galleons -- especially with the funding of the East India Trading Company behind us...”
Her eyes narrowed a bit more as they swiveled over to Beckett’s face.
“...But...if you were to advocate such a mission, you’d be at the head of the charge for it. Its success or failure would rest on your head more than any of ours...regardless of any efforts we might make to protect your reputation.”
Beckett’s lips curled up in a smile that held no warmth.
“Your concern is appreciated, Commodore Weasley,” he said, and his eyes seemed to gleam upon her. “But I assure you...I’ve waited long enough, to get the revenge I’m owed...”
He turned his focus to the piece of eight coin in his hand.
“After the injuries I’ve sustained, thanks to one of these ‘Pirate Lords,’” he said in a very soft, cold voice, “I have no intention of letting them live in peace. Wherever they decide to make their final stand...I shall be there to meet and destroy them.”
He slammed the coin down into the table with a slap of his hand, making both Carewyn and Percy flinch despite themselves.
After the hangings were complete, Carewyn returned to the Flying Dutchman, once again leaving Percy in Port Royal. The youngest Weasley brother was troubled by the thought of Carewyn being on board Jones’s ship, and she tried to reassure him as best as she was able.
“Captain Jones has to follow Lord Beckett’s orders just as much as we do,” she said softly. “Regardless of who he is, he’s been impressed into our service...it wouldn’t be in his best interest, to fight against that.”
Percy, however, didn’t look very reassured. His gaze kept flickering up to the Dutchman, even though he tried hard to look Carewyn in the face.
The Commodore offered her surrogate younger brother a smile, resting a hand on his shoulder and giving it a squeeze.
“It’ll be okay,” she reassured him gently.
Percy stared at Carewyn for a long moment, his brown eyes dark with emotion. Then, very abruptly, he actually threw out his arms, grabbing hold of her and pulling her into a full hug.
“Percy?” said Carewyn, completely taken aback.
Percy didn’t say anything -- instead he just gave her a squeeze, his chin resting on her shoulder. Although he was facing away from her, Carewyn could hear a faint shakiness in the breath he took.
“Come back safely,” he mumbled, his voice harsher than normal as he tried to keep his composure. “You hear me? Come back just as you are now.”
Carewyn’s blue eyes filled with pain as she realized what was going through Percy’s head. Yes, he was scared for her safety, but it wasn’t just because he cared about her -- it was also because, with the loss of Charlie and Bill, his real brothers...she was the only family Percy had left, here in Port Royal. The only sibling he could rely on, for emotional support.
Her heart filling with compassion and affection for the young Captain, she brought her arms around Percy tightly in return, resting a hand on the back of his head and cradling it as though she were his mother.
“We will see each other again soon, Perce,” she murmured in his ear. “I promise.”
After she and Percy parted ways, Rakepick met Carewyn at the top of the ramp heading up to the deck of the Flying Dutchman. The older woman gave Carewyn another long, analytical look as she came up on deck, which Carewyn returned with a much shorter, faintly suspicious look. She didn’t like how Rakepick looked at her. It just made Carewyn feel like she knew something...but Carewyn frankly had no idea what that “something” was. One thing Carewyn did take note of, however, was the chain she wore around her neck and tucked under the low collar of her red jacket -- the chain that no doubt held the key to the Dead Man’s Chest.
That night, after all of the officers went to sleep, Carewyn entered the Dutchman’s captain’s cabin and ordered one of her lieutenants to send Davy Jones to her. Jones was not pleased to be summoned to his own cabin, least of all by the Commodore Beckett assigned to “watch” him.
“I cannot be called like some mongrel pup,” he snapped.
“Yet you came,” said Carewyn coolly. “I appreciate the promptness.”
Jones looked incredibly surly. The ginger-haired Commodore looked at her lieutenant, who was trying hard not to cower in Jones’s shadow.
“Go ahead and return to your patrol down below with the Chest, Lieutenant,” she told him. “I’ll take it from here.”
The scared young man gave a salute and then quickly left the room. Once the door was closed, Carewyn turned up at Jones with a much grimmer look on her face, her arms crossed behind her back in standard “Naval” fashion.
“...Captain Jones...Lord Beckett has ordered that we seek out Shipwreck Cove.”
Jones’s lip curled. “I believe I’ve already made it clear that I don’t know where the damned Brethren Court meets.”
“I know you don’t. And I’m glad for it.”
Jones’s eyebrows knit together suspiciously. Carewyn’s eyes flickered absently over to the door as she listened for a moment to make absolutely sure no one was listening it.
“...I don’t want Beckett to find Shipwreck Cove,” she said lowly. “I don’t want him to send Navy ships after us once we’ve found it and destroy it. Just as I frankly don’t want you under Beckett’s rule at all.”
Jones gave a loud snort. “Haha! And I suppose this is all out of the goodness of your heart, this...sympathy you deign to spare such a pathetic wretch as me?”
His eyes hardened as he bore down on her, dwarfing her with his height.
“I don’t need your pity, Carewyn Cromwell,” he said very coldly.
Carewyn was visibly taken aback.
“Oh, aye,” said Jones with a smirk, “I know your name. A ferryman of the damned knows everyone’s true names.”
Despite how taken aback and faintly disconcerted Carewyn was, however, she didn’t seem intimidated. Instead she kept her posture straight and tall and looked Jones straight in the eye.
“Then you know why I don’t want Beckett to succeed,” she said seriously. “A lot of people I love are probably on their way to Shipwreck Cove right now. As much as I know a battle will be imminent, I want them to initiate it. I don’t want Beckett to get there before they’re ready.”
“So you aim to make a deal with me, then, Miss Commodore?” asked Jones, raising an eyebrow in amusement.
“No,” said Carewyn firmly. “I just want to set you free.”
Now it was Davy Jones’s turn to look startled.
“I don’t believe in anyone being impressed into service against their will -- least of all by a captor as cruel and despicable as Cutler Beckett,” the Commodore said, feeling glad to finally let loose her bile a bit. “And if getting your heart back to you so that you can do as you please makes it that much harder for Beckett to destroy Shipwreck Cove...all the better.”
“Ah...so you think to trade my assurance that I won’t attack Shipwreck Cove for your services,” said Jones coolly. “Well, I hate to break it to you -- but I have no love for the Brethren Court myself, since they took all ownership of the seas for themselves. I daresay your dear granddaddy told you all about that...”
“‘The seas be ours and by the powers, where we will, we’ll roam’ -- yes, I know the song,” said Carewyn. “But that doesn’t matter. I’m not asking you to help the Brethren Court. I’m not asking you to help me with anything. I plan to set you free whether you want to be nice to me or not.”
Jones’s eyes narrowed as they flickered over Carewyn’s face, analyzing her critically. At last he raised his claw the way a man might raise a hand, but its size made it so it came within inches of her face.
“...Let me make sure I have this right, missie,” he said lowly. “You’re offering your assistance in restoring my heart to me...without making any sort of deal with me that benefits you?”
Carewyn nodded, not flinching at all in response to Jones’s claw getting into her personal space.
“Because you being free helps me, as it is -- by making things harder for Beckett.”
Jones considered Carewyn for a long moment. Whatever he had been expecting from the sister of Black Jack Roberts, it certainly wasn’t this. Even from a sanctimonious Navy officer, he didn’t expect this level of...well, for lack of a better word, decency...especially for someone who had showed her no kindness and she owed absolutely nothing to. He never would’ve admitted it aloud...but it impressed him.
‘Seems a bit of a shame that such a decent person should be fated for a lifetime of service aboard my ship,’ Jones thought to himself.
Perhaps because his heart was so close to him, the thought made some reluctance and guilt pick at the inside of his chest.
Pushing the feeling aside, the captain of the damned lowered his claw again. Then very, very slowly his tentacled face spread into a fuller, brighter smirk.
“...What do you have in mind?”
