gasping for breath always hits different. chest heaving from panic or strain, coughing and struggling to draw in the air they so desperately need, swallowing and forcing words between wheezes that leave them dizzy and swaying but they can't afford to pass out yet? it could be from pain, fever, sweating, exhaustion, broken ribs, near drowning? it's a whole ass delicacy

Anon Asked: Any prompts for a character who suffers from TB (tuberculosis) and as a result, has a tendency to cough up blood?

Sure:

(Also please don’t quote me on my medical knowledge, I’m using multiple sources for this - listed at the end)

The coughing starts gradually, passed off as allergies/a cold.

As always, it gets worse, and harsher. They start coughing up phlegm.

Their chest hurts, as it would. They can hardly sleep and their fever starts affecting everyday life. Their throat always hurts so they hardly eat.

The weight loss and tiredness is when people start to notice.

Maybe they become more agitated - maybe they make mistakes at work.

Then the blood starts. Just a little in their phlegm at first, but it gradually becomes more than they can just wipe away with a tissue. The metallic taste makes them gag.

At this point, the blood vessels in their lungs have become eroded, and have begun to bleed.

Or they’ve aggravated their throat so much, they’ve caused minor damage.

Either way, its going into their lungs and causing breathing difficulty.

And permanent lung damage is no good for anyone, especially with residual scarring - perhaps leading to ‘pulmonary fibrosis’ which leads to many complications.

But then theres the breathlessness/passing out/gagging on blood/chest pain etc

Chapter 13

Prompt 14 - Water Inhalation | “Just hold on.”

Ezra felt himself being pulled through the water. He gasped for breath as he breached the surface, but dissolved into a coughing fit as he inhaled some of the residual water left in his mouth.

He settled onto dry ground and instantly tried to get up. Thrawn was here, and the death troopers, and–

“Just hold on, you need to rest,” a voice said. A female voice. What?

Ezra opened his eyes and immediately closed them again. There was more light in the cavern now and the sudden brightness hurt after so long in the darkened vases. Now that he was prepared for it, he opened his eyes again to see what in the galaxy was going on.

A middle-aged woman knelt over him, a gentle hand resting on his shoulders. There was a kindly smile on her face and Ezra felt peace emanating from her. And she looked…

“I saw you!” he realized. “In that white space. You were there! Are you a Jedi, too?”

She nodded. “I am. My name is Lorana Jinzler, and I’ve been waiting a long time for you.”

Too many questions swirled in Ezra’s brain, so he settled for something simple.

“Where am I? And where are the others?”

The woman frowned. “Others?”

“Yeah, the ones who were chasing me.”

She grimaced. “I’m afraid my friend and I must have scared you. We’ve seen no others.”

“Your friend?” Ezra looked around the cave and saw no one else. Then, from the entrance, a figure appeared, the light from the woman’s lantern revealing a man with blue skin and the same glowing red eyes he’d seen before.

Just replayed The Dragon’s Tears Quest.

It’s the way Link looks around, confused and surprised, when he finds himself surrounded by Silent Princesses. It’s the way he looks up and watches the Light Dragon, the Master Sword shining. How he gets so determined as he clutches to the sword, unwilling to let it go. How he takes a moment to cherish it, how he gasps when the scales flake off, revealing a healed Master Sword, how he doesn’t swing the sword once it is his, but rather calmly ducks his head down, eyes closed, and sheaths it. Or how he gets off in the exact location Zelda last stood in the past. How he stares at the Light Dragon as it continues its flight, despite being grounded.

What a damn heartbreaking and breathtaking moment.
